Warning, spoilers for Young Justice season 3

It’s cold. Your legs feel bare, and your back is pressed against frigid metal. Your eyes start to flutter open, but your eyelids are so heavy and the light hurts, you snap them shut again and wince before trying again. Opening your eyes makes you feel like someones driving ice picks through your retina into your brain, you’ve never had a headache like this. Your mouth is dry and cottony, you’re so desperately thirsty. You can hear murmuring, but can’t quite make out what’s being said.

You squint and force your eyes open, it hurts, but you’ve gotta get up and get some water. You look down at yourself, you’re covered by a blue sheet. You blink and some things start sliding into perspective. That isn’t a sheet, it’s a hospital gown, but you aren’t lying on a hospital cot, your slumped over in a metal tube with a glass front.

Still squinting against the light you look up and around. The room has that white hospital feel to it, with the fluorescent lights and the clean tile, but something ain’t right. There’s doctors, or at least they look like doctors, walking around with in lab coats carrying clip boards but there aren’t any hospital beds. No, instead of beds there’s other tubes like the one you are in. Some are empty, and some are filled with a black liquid.

Motion out of the corner of your eye catches your attention and you look over to your right. You see another tube, but this one isn’t empty or full of black liquid. At least, it isn’t full of black liquid yet. There’s a little girl in a hospital gown that matches your own who is maybe nine or ten years old inside the tube. She’s standing up and pounding on the glass, her eyes are wide, and you can see tears running down her cheeks as she slaps her palms against the glass and begs to be let out. The black liquid is rising to fill her pod, when you first looked over it was at her calves, now it’s rising up to mid thigh, and the higher it goes the more desperate she becomes.

Standing in front of the pod is a man in a lab coat. Middle aged, Caucasian, light brown hair, bit of a paunch. He’s perfectly calm, bored even, as he watches the little girl be engulfed by the black substance being pumped into her pod and checks boxes on his clipboard.

You struggle to your feet and try to listen, focusing on the indistinct murmuring you’d been ignoring until it turns into words. The liquid is up to the girls neck, and she’s tilting her head back to try and keep it above water.

“Subject thirteen is exhibiting signs of cardiac distress.” The man in the lab coat sighs. “For the record I would like to repeat my recommendation that subjects be insensate while undergoing Tar Protocol.”

He bobs his head as if listening to someone on the blue tooth device he has in his ear, and then says “Understood Sir.”

As he speaks the girl lets out her last cry, and then is completely submerged underneath the black substance, Tar you heard him call it.

The scientist looks at something on a screen attached to the pod and starts making more notes on his pad. “Meta-gene activated, subject thirteen is undergoing rapid physiological changes. Subject’s mass has increased by a factor of 25 percent and continues to rise.”

You can’t make out anything distinct, but you can see the tar being stirred up by something thrashing within the pod.

“Subjects cardiopulmonary system appears to be struggling to keep up with the physiological changes.” The man says as he makes another note on his clipboard. “Cardiac arrest imminent.”

The thrashing stops and the black liquid settles as the man with the clipboard sighs and jots something down.

“Subject 13 expired due to inability to adapt to their awakened meta gene. Beginning tests on subject 14. “He says as he steps in front of your pod. You're standing now and you look him in the eye as he presses a button and says “initiating Tar Protocol.”

You feel something seeping up underneath your feet and look down. A viscous black liquid, Tar, is rising from the bottom of your pod. It’s only been a few seconds but it’ already starting to cover your feet.

No no no, you aren’t going out like that little girl. NO. You throw yourself at the glass platting in front of you and slam your shoulder against it, but there’s no budge at all.

As the viscous black tar rises up your legs your skin burns. The man’s saying something, taking more notes on his clipboard as he describes how “Subject 14” is reacting to the procedure. You scream and pound on the glass.

You aren’t a test subject! You aren’t some lab rat! You’re a human being! You’re-

Do we have to have watched Young Justice season 3 to participate I don't care about spoilers
>>
>>3514961

While I love the enthusiasm, we aren't quite that far gone yet.

>>3514963

No, it's not necessary to have watched season three, or even seasons 1 and 2 in order to participate.
>>
>>3514964
A boy, in that case...
>>
>>3514967

I'm sorry if this dims your enthusiasm. There's certainly the possibility to end up as some manner of creature if that's what you want, but you'll have to lobby for it and convince the others in the quest to back you on it.

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, currently we are in character creation. After we determine our gender, we will decide on our pre-abduction history. The next step will be to decide on our meta-human powers.

If you wished to play as a monster of science, then it would be at the point when we vote for how our meta-human powers manifested that you would be able to cause that to happen, assuming the vote went your way.

You aren’t a test subject! You aren’t some lab rat! You’re a human being! They can’t do this to you!

The Tar is up to your waist now, the burning sensation of it against your skin makes you scream. You can’t feel your feet or lower legs anymore, they’ve gone numb.

You pound against the glass, you’re just a teenager, you don’t want to die. You still have so much to do.

The viscous black liquid is up to mid chest now, it’s hard to move with it pressing in on you. As it reaches your throat you realize there isn’t anything you can do. The glass isn’t budging, the scientist doesn’t care. You aren’t getting out of this.

“This is as far as I go I guess” You think to yourself as you contemplate your life as a-

What? Who are you? It's time to decide. For the purposes of this quest we will be using the mechanics based on the Risus RPG system. Risus is completely free, and all of four pages. Feel free to go get it if you wish to do so. If you don't, don't worry, you don't need to. I'll explain everything as we go, and it's really simple.

Your character will be defined by a number of Cliches, simple phrases that describe what and who they are. For instance if I say "Jock" you likely have something that comes to mind, this is a cliche which describes a person.

You have ten dice to spread between as many cliches as you wish that describe who your character is. At character creation no cliche may have more than 4 dice assigned to it. The more dice you have in something the better you are at it. Your first cliche is your primary cliche, this cliche describes how your character thinks of them-self.

Bellow are Four examples of different characters as described by their cliches, which you may choose if you so wish, or if none of them strike your fancy, feel free to write with something you would prefer. I strongly encourage write ins, these examples are meant to be just that, examples, not your definitive options though you may choose one of them if it speaks to you.

Alright, I'm going to give this another hour and a half, just to make sure there's plenty of time for everyone to vote and come to a decision , and then I'll come back with the next write up, which will be determining how the Tar effected us.

If you have proposed a build, feel free to include a blurb of how you envision that character. A short paragraph description of who you see them as being.

Love all the proposals so far, I can see some very interesting characters coming out from them.

>>3515054

I'm sorry for disappointing you. If it isn't your cup of tea no one is forcing you to participate or be here.

Now if you have creative criticism, such as how you would do a narrative or interactive character creation, or if you can point to an example of it, I would love to hear it. I'm always happy to learn how I can improve. If you do wish to provide criticism and feedback, I request that you do so in the QST thread, so as to avoid cluttering this one.

Checking to see if ID changed now that I am at home... at any rate, the character idea was:
>loved magic and monsters and all that good shit since early childhood. ALWAYS cheered for the monster when told a scary story, went as a Wizard every Halloween
>parents with high expectations let it happen, but start getting more overbearing as time goes on
>Gotta be academically successful, gotta be involved, gotta be physically fit
>repeatedly told to grow up and be more concerned with the real more than the fantasy
>never stops loving the idea of the supernatural, but doesn’t want to disappoint parents.
>finds a balance... sort of. As long as he keeps his grades stellar, keeps his place in the Debate Team, keeps his books on folklore and cryptids and runic symbols hidden, doesn’t talk about it at school (when kids talk, it gets around. Not even Honors classes keep you from getting labeled the Weird Goth Kid to everyone.), and keeps his wardrobe at least MOSTLY not blacks and dark colors, then it’s fine.

Wallflower (4)
Nerd (4)
Hacker (2)

Ten minutes to vote or clarify your vote, and then the vote will be called.
>>
>>3515117
wallflower is not having a niche in the school
>>
>>3515121

Yes, basically the term refers to being average, unnoticeable, and often it has connotations of being shy as well. Wallflowers don't stand out, they're kinda just part of the crowd as it were.

It's something that can certainly be used potentially, as an anon suggested it might work as bastardized stealth in the right situations, but you'll all need to be creative about it.

Three minutes.
>>
Voting Closed.

We're locked in for

Wallflower (4)
Nerd (4)
Hacker (2)

Please note that as the quest continues it will be possible to get more cliches as your character evolves and it becomes necessary to describe who they have become, and that your cliche can likewise improve.

That's for latter though. For now, writing, and power selection.

If you have an idea that you want for a write in power, start thinking about it and get ready to convince the other anons to back you.

Write up incoming.
>>
>>3515117
I'm fine with that
>>
“This is as far as I go I guess” You think to yourself as you contemplate your life as a...well a Wallflower if you’re brutally honest with yourself. You didn't really have to many friends. You weren’t bullied or anything like that, you were just kinda there. Chugging away and getting good grades, contemplating a life as a programmer and shit posting online. Then on a whim and a flight of depressed fancy you responded to some bullshit online about “reaching your true potential” and “being the best you you could be.”

“Fuck that was stupid.” You think as the goo climbs up over your mouth. If you were going to do something impulsive or try to “live your life”, why hadn’t you just asked out Ashley? She might have gone for it, and even if you got laughed at there’s no way asking a girl out ends with you in a fucking pod of black goo about to suffocate.

The goo crawls up over your nose, and then your eyes. You hold your breath for as long as you can and then gasp out and suck down the liquid before blacking out.
You’re floating, suspended by some liquid. It’s dark and quiet. It’s peaceful. If this is the afterlife it ain’t so bad. And then suddenly there’s sound, moving hydraulics and the splash of liquid against concrete as the door to your pod swings open.

You fall forward in a rush of black goo and fall to all fours before you start coughing the Tar out of your lungs. You’re alive, holy shit you’re alive. You retch and rub at your eyes trying to clean off the gunk before trying to get your feet under you and stand up. You can barely see, but you open your eyes and look around blearily at your surroundings

You’re in a pit made out of concrete. The ground below you is packed dirt, and the ceiling is concrete and steel girders. Your either in a large building or underground.

You shake your head and toss some more of the gunk out of your hair and then look around. The walls are more than twenty feet high you think, its a big open space with a high ceiling that’s for sure. At intervals around the top of the pit far from the ground are whirring cameras and a few speakers. There’s a large steel door embedded in the wall directly across from you.

“Beginning testing of Meta-gene active subject.” The voice of the scientist drones out from one of the speakers and the massive steel door begins to slide open.

From out of the shadows emerges a massive creature. It’s vaguely humanoid, but it’s proportions are grossly exaggerated like some sort of caricature. It’s upper body bulges grotesquely with muscle. It’s skin is torn, and gaping wounds show the tissue underneath. It looks like it literally tore it’s own skin flexing.

The thing’s hide is Grey and leathery, and looking at it’s wounds you can see it’s skin is as thick as one of your fingers.

It stares at you with beady eyes from under a thick brow as the voice over the speakers says “Now mammoth remember we need the subject alive, and sufficiently intact to be repairable by our partner's technology. No dismemberment, and leave the skull intact. Other than that, have fun with your new toy.”

The thing, Mammoth it’s name is Mammoth, grins at you and start rolling it’s shoulders, limbering up.

“Subject Fourteen” The Scientist says over the speakers addressing you. “Congratulations, your Meta-gene has been activated. Unfortunately in some cases it can be very difficult to determine how exactly it manifests. We’ve found that the best way to determine how a subject’s meta-gene has manifested is to force them to use it by putting them in highly stressful and threatening situations and seeing how they respond instinctively to save themselves. I look forward to seeing what you can do Subject fourteen. Best of luck.”

Some potential powers:

Then the speakers crackle and shut off and Mammoth starts to lumber towards you.

“Fuck, fuck, just..fuck.” you say as you back up away from the lumbering monstrosity, as far as you can go until your foot hits the edge of the now open glass door to your pod.

There’s no way. You’re going to die, you can’t fight that thing, you aren’t some fucking super hero!

Your palms sweat. You can feel your heart pounding. You’re getting real fucking sick of being in life threatening situations.

And then, it happens.

You can FEEL mammoths blood lust, and taste the contours of his mind, and it scares you. (Primary psychic power, secondary physical adaptation, exact nature unknown)

>You feel heavy and your skin feels tight, like it’s being stretched. It feels as if you’ve been hollowed out and replaced by something else, like if you just reach down and pull your skin will tear away like you’re peeling an onion and revealing another layer. (physiological mutation, transformative aspects, exact nature unknown.)

These are absolutely potential power sets you could have, any one of these could work. Just keep in mind that early on you won't be at your full potential, so if you pick say the shape shifting, then you're going to start with a few forms or with a long cool down period, and get progressively better and faster etc as you go.

Voting is now open. Write in's are encouraged. I'm gonna be gone for a bit, so there will be several hours for you all to come to a decision, and we will pick back up this afternoon.

Thank you all for your participation thus far.

What is Pillar Man? I prefer not to have turning into an animal as a power, but other kinds of shapeshifting is fine.
>>
>>3515137
>I feel like I don't see that many cape-quests with visibly mutant MCs
Surprisingly, the more popular cape-quests had MCs with physical mutations- the most noticeable would be the Homeless Mutant Quest.

Actually I'll switch to

Biokinesis/Shapeshifting, basically Beast Boy meets Pillar Man.

Since I didn't realise write ins were acceptable. I'm fine with light manipulation if that ends up winning.

It feels as if you’ve been hollowed out and replaced by something else, like if you just reach down and pull your skin will tear away like you’re peeling an onion and revealing another layer. >>
>>3515163
I still kinda prefer the peeling off our skin style transformation of the third option then, or even the light manipulation ability, but I'll stick around to see what your power does if it wins. I'm just having a hard time visualizing it at the moment, so the power feels uninteresting.
>>
>>3515179
Its kind of fun its like a scooby doo villain but under the mask is another villain and i hope we can still be big mutant with this i kind of imagine us being part plant with this power
>>
>>3515179
From the way google tells it, it's less whole animal shapeshifting, though he could probably do that if he really wanted, but rather specialized and localized animal shapeshifting. Need to see very far away -> shift your eyes to eagle eyes. Want to kick real hard -> shift your leg to a horse's leg, or even maybe a ram's head or something. Subdue this guy in front of you -> your arms are now actual pythons.
>>
>>3515188
That's still a Pillarman, but that's a Pillarman after becoming even stronger.
They can do shit like use their veins as prehensile needles.

I'm voting this, light manipulation is just too good. We can effectively just blind people for as long as we're able to keep manipulating it.
>>
>>3515182
Personally I imagined the skin peeling shapeshifting to be something like this. Remove human skin to reveal vicious scary monster form, then molt that off yo return to normal, with our monster form maybe changing depending on the situation. (Like we can specialize a brute type, or aquatic type, or whatever, at the time of the transformation)

A drawback being it takes longer to molt back to human form than to turn into a monster, so we can't rapidly change type or even quickly disguise ourselves, but at least can quickly enter a battle mode

On the topic of disguise and stealth, this type of transformation seems unfit for it because you'd be leaving skin "suits" behind every time you molted.

With Biokinesis/Shapeshift at a high level?
>high speed regeneration
>turning bodyparts into weapons/animals
>flight via manifesting wings
>shapeshifting into other people or animals
>killing others by messing with their biology
>enhancing size/musclemass at will
>absorb people for biomass
Many other potential applications.
>>
>>3515588
From what I can gather the Pillar Man is a reference to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and the power is some kind of intricate cellular control that allows them to do things like mutate limbs or muscles, and they can even digest organic material via physical contact by having their skin cells break down the material. With proper training and full control the person can even adapt the properties of other living beings like plants and animals, but even without it they could twist bones, muscle, blood, or other parts of their body into basically any other organic material. Turn blood into a bone weapon jutting out of their arm, or a tool to pick a lock, or whatever. Definitely very versatile. Biggest drawback being our character currently has very little control/awareness of his power, so it'll be a while before he's able to do awesome stuff like that. In fact, I kinda worry with that much power but that little control we'll be in danger of accidentally killing ourselves, but that can be handwaved by saying we have a subconscious limiter that won't let us really change anything vital away until we gain enough understanding to overcome it.

Personally I like my idea of peeling/molting physical form into some mutant battle mode/back to human form interpretation of the skin peeling ability. Though admittedly I don't know what the power is actually alluding to and my guess could be completely wrong. It still strikes me as an interesting power that would have a creepy enough activation tp lean somewhat into the physical mutation aspect some people liked about the psychic power, but without it necessarily being permanent, or blue (I just don't want to look like Xman's Beast).

Light manipulation sounds cool too, and less dangerous for someone with little understanding or control, but also strikes me as something that could be really powerful as we understand other features of it, but again, my personal interest in the skin peeling power wins out.
>>
>>3515609

Have you ever read any of the animal man comics?

That's kind of what I'm thinking right now basee on what people have been saying. There was a period where he could maintain multiple partial tranaformations, so the dude would grow a massive pair of wings, claws and fangs, etc. Very versatile at high levels.

I'm only somewhat familiar with the pillar men. I've never read jojo, but I've got a buddy who is really into it. From my understanding they basically have flesh sculpting magic, a kind of biomancy. Thst so of skill set would lend itself to unnaturally dense muscles or other mutations I think.

I don't know, I'm spit balling. It certainly won't start out that strong, in the beginning if you picked that you'll have some limited shifting and regeneration I think. Still need to think of good words to describe it as an innitial bodily sensation, like I said I'm kind of out of it, but I'll figure something out.

If you are one of the anons voting for it, and you feel like I've missunderstood, please tell me how you imagine it.
>>
>>3515615

Since some people aren't too clear on what the skin peeling would do, and I realize in hindsight I left that too vague, gonna confirm that this anon basically has the right idea.

What i pictured was you tear off your skin there's a mutant form underneath, tear that off and you can go back to human or to a different mutant form. Multiple forms can be used, it's kind of adaptive.

Basically think Husk from x-men, but with a bit of monster of the week mixed in.

I'm sorry for not doing a better job with my descriptions.

>high speed regeneration. Do we get energy from nothing?
>turning bodyparts into weapons/animals. I can see that so are the weapons going to be stronger then normal bones and keep a better edge
>flight via manifesting wings. So all of our mass in the wings and even then not sure if we can fly or are you just going to slap on wings to a human?
>shapeshifting into other people or animals do we need to keep our brain when we shift to animal and
>killing others by messing with their biology. So we can also control flesh that is not ours and ranged?
>enhancing size/musclemass at will. Where do we store the extra mass and energy or are we the living bag of holding?

Also bonus question do we need to grow the flesh ourself or do we just suck it up

Alright so looks like our winner is biomancy/shapeshifting.

Give me a bit to finish my protein shake, and I'll figure out what I'm going to do with what you've all given me.

Completely unrelated to this particular quest but still throwing it out there: one where you play as bizarro (or bizarro superboy) would be pretty cool. You focus, desperately trying to figure out what your new power is, and then your realize, you can Feel your muscles. It’s not just that you can feel the muscle groups tensing, you can Feel the fibers, the ligaments, you can feel where they connect to your bones.

Your bones, holy shit you can Feel your bones, all the way to the marrow and the blood cell production.

You can feel your blood moving through your veins, hell, you can feel your veins.

So much, you feel so much, and yet it isn't overwhelming you. Your brain is quietly processing the information without the sensory overload you're sure should be occurring.

You can't feel your brain activity quite like you can feel the rest of your body, but you can tell there's a lot more going on under the hood than there had been. You heard once humans only use like ten percent of their brain, you wonder how much you're using now.

Something, some instinct screams at you that you can change yourself, order your flesh to obey your whim.

1/2
>>
>>3516019

You decide to focus on a finger nail. If you fuck up, it probably won't kill you. You focus on your left pointer finger and picture the nail growing longer and thicker, imagining a claw at the end of your finger tip.

Before your eyes your nail shifts and changes, until you are looking at a viciously hooked inch long claw.

Ok, you can order your flesh and it obeys, damn that's awesome! Maybe you can just make yourself as huge, no bigger, than this Mammoth and smash him!

You focus on your pecs first. You might as well start somewhere and you always wanted nice pecs. Focusing on the muscle fibers you order them to grow, imagining rippling muscle.

There's pain as the muscles start to tear and then repair themselves, but they don't grow very much before they stop. Your new senses can feel that you don't have enough material to build them up like you want to. You need fuel.

A loud thumping jerks you out of your head, and you realize that while you've been navel gazing Mammoth has walked right up in front of you.

He leers at you and raises a massive fist.

What do you do?

>you remember hearing once that it doesn't take much to rattle the brain, you may not have had much of a punch before, but you're pretty sure you can forcibly contract your muscles and put a little extra oomph into a shot at his chin by ignoring your bodies limits (power dice pump)

>you remember from your biology class that performance can be enhanced by hormones and adrenaline, your pretty sure you can force your glands to flood your system with every natural performance enhancer the body can make and then run for your fucking life (nerd dice and power dice)

>you're never going to complain about memorizing muscles and ligaments in school again, you know where his are. You bet you can grow some claws and cripple him. He seems pretty fixated on his upper body, you can probably get some swipes in at his legs while he's unsuspecting (nerd dice and power dice)

>Write in

Alright first things first, your power. Congratulations, you have complete control over your body and it’s systems. Your flesh is yours to command and sculpt, limited only by your imagination, knowledge, practice, and fuel.

Quite frankly you are going to be broken once you get rolling. After much deliberation I have decided that I am fine with this, as it means I get to toss equally broken shit at you when the time comes, and that sounds like a good time.

Your power is represented mechanically as your Power dice. You are going to start with 3 power dice, though as you grow in your mastery over your power this pool will grow. Power dice will be what allows you to break human limits.

Now, Skill checks , pumps, and combat.

Outside of combat when you roll to see if you are successful in doing something I feel you can’t just get away with automatically, you will roll against a set dc using an appropriate cliche’s dice pool and your power dice if applicable. Dc’s typically range from 5 at the low end to 30 at the high end. 5 is something any schmuck can do. 10 is something that would be appropriate for a professional in a given field. 15 is for really difficult things, stuff that even pro’s have troubles with. 20’s are things that even masters struggle to do. If you hit 30, you are at literally superhuman feats.

Pumps are when you push yourself past your limit, basically going beyond your limitations knowing that you’re probably going to hurt yourself doing it. You can increase a dice pool for a given cliché, or your power dice pool, for a single roll. After that round ends that pool takes damage equal to the amount you pumped it by. Basically, you get a big shot, and then you suffer for it.

Combat. Combat is handled by opposing rolls. You roll your dice, the opponent rolls their dice. Whoever gets the higher number when you add up all your dice wins. The winner is unharmed, the looser takes damage to the dice pool they were using. For example, if we rolled with nerd and power dice, and then loose, we would take one dice worth of damage to either nerd or power, and on subsequent rolls would have a smaller pool to use. Combat is not limited purely to two people trying to hurt or kill each other. Combat mechanics can come into play during most clashes between two individuals. An important argument can invoke combat mechanics for example, as both sides try to beat the others argument and wear each other down.

We are currently in combat with Mammoth. You will be rolling your pool vs his. I will be taking best out of the first three rolls. Dice are not to be rolled until after the vote is called and an option is chosen. This is to make sure that anons vote based on what they think is the best result, not because someone rolled high.

Again, hold off on the dice rolls until after votes are tallied and our course of action is chosen. Once the decision has been made I will ask for dice rolls and roll your opponents dice.
>>
>>3516033

For the record all of your dice are d6, unless specified otherwise. Forgot to put that in there. In the future you may potentially increase your power dice from d6 to d8 or even d10's but that's further down the line.

You remember from your biology class that performance can be enhanced by hormones and adrenaline, you’re pretty sure you can force your glands to flood your system with every natural performance enhancer the body can make and then run for your fucking life. There is no way in hell you are trying to stand up to this thing. You ain’t no superman. Even if you have some pretty awesome new Meta-powers.

As his fist descends you stimulate your adrenal gland, thank fucking goodness you remembered it was the one on top of your kidneys. Sadly your new awareness of your body does not come with an instruction manual and a convenient map pointing out what’s what. Fortunately, you always did do pretty damn well in your biology courses.

In accordance with your will your blood is flooded with adrenaline and nor-epinephrine and you dive under his arm. It isn’t exactly dignified, you nearly fall on your face and end up scrambling on all fours for a few awkward seconds before you get your feet back under you, but you didn’t get hit and you’re past him and running faster than you ever have in your life away from big mean and ugly.

‘All I gotta do is keep running’ you think to yourself as you look back over your shoulder at where Mammoth is standing. ‘He’s so huge he has to be slow, there’s no way he can move quickly with that much mass considering his proportions, the bones and joints of his comparatively undersized legs couldn’t support it. Square cube law bitch!’

It was at this moment you learned something very important. A revelation of such import it would completely redefine your understanding of the universe.

Meta-Humans are bullshit.

The massive man crouches down and the muscles in his thighs and calves bunch, and then he springs at you. This was not the spring of a tiger, this was more comparable to a man being launched out of a cannon then to anything you’d see on animal planet.

His movement is explosive, he goes for zero to sixty in about half a second, and you barely realize what’s happening before he slams into you.

Fortunately not even Meta-human bullshit can let him change direction mid air, or at least, not his brand of Meta-human bullshit.

Thanks to your accelerated thought process and reactions, totally worth the shaking hands caused by the massive load of hormones in your blood, you manage to duck under the Meta-human projectile intent on slamming into you like the fist of a pagan god, and throw yourself to the ground.

You hear a crash as Mammoth soars over your head and then slams into the wall of the pit. Rolling to your feet you look back as where he crashed into the wall. Literally into, the guy cracked the concrete and embedded himself in it.

With a roar he rips himself free and whips around to look at you. He screeches at you and you see his muscles bunch in preparation for his next charge.

What do?

so we have the legs of rick taylor now?
>>
>>3516253

That was too close, you need to be faster or you’re going to get squished. You need stronger legs, you need to build up the muscles there, but to do that you need fuel.

There’s no time to hesitate, Mammoths already leaping at you again. You dive to the side and manage to avoid him by the skin of your teeth as you start thinking about what you can cannibalize to fuel some muscle growth in your legs.

Kidneys, you only need one, at your mental command one starts to break down, fuel for the fire. You leave a bit of it, hopefully you can grow it back later. After all meta-humans are bullshit, and you’re a meta-human now, so maybe it’ll work.

Appendix, that shit’s useless, your body breaks it down into components and protein.

Liver, one of the largest organs in the human body. You don’t need the whole thing, you know that there’s a procedure for donor’s to give part of their liver. You start consuming one of your livers lobes.

The organs you’ve targeted melt away in a second, maybe two as you run away from Mammoths latest leap and try to get a bit of space. You can literally feel the muscles in your thighs and calves tearing and rebuilding themselves larger and stronger than they were in real time as you run.

Your fat stores melt as they fuel the reaction and every useful bit of the cells is pillaged. You’d never been fat but you’d had a bit of a paunch. Too much time in front of a computer, too many sugary snacks.

You don’t have a paunch any more.

You briefly consider targeting your upper body, but can that thought immediately. You remember your gym coach bitching at you about proper running form, you need your arms to counter balance your legs to get the best results while sprinting. You can’t afford to take from your upper body, you might throw yourself off.

1/2
>>
>>3516447

You bend your knees and tense your new muscles as you watch Mammoth and wait for his next explosive leap.

You remember learning in biology that the human liver is a few pounds, you think it was about three. If that’s the case, comparing the amount of liver your burned to what you got from your other organs, you think you’ve converted a little more than two pounds of organ meat into muscle altogether.

You’d contemplated getting fit once, figured it might improve your luck with the ladies. You remember that for a male the maximum muscle gain in a month was about one to two pounds of muscle. That means if your rough estimates are right you’ve just gained one to two month worth of muscle growth in about three, maybe four seconds. And that’s not even considering whatever you got from burning off all of your fat stores.

And to think, all it cost you was three internal organs!

Fuck.

You dodge again, springing out of Mammoth’s way, and while it’s not a huge difference you do move a bit faster and get a bit farther out of the way of his charge. You get maybe a foot of clearance as compared to the inches you got on your first two narrow escapes.

Mammoth slams into the wall again as you sprint to the other side of the pit. He pries himself out of the wall, and then snorts and shakes his head before staring at you a moment.

Then, rather than leaping at you, he starts to lope towards you. It’s fast, but controlled. He stares at you as he slowly closes the gap, stalking after you like a massive predator.

You run, but even with your new and improved legs he starts to catch up, gaining on you slowly but surely as you try and keep the gap. You’re faster now but he’s still faster than you and he’s starting to play it smart. Damn it, if only you had more fuel you could really restructure your legs and then there’s no way he’d catch you, but your tanks are running dry, and Mammoth is running you down.

What do?

>Keep the adrenaline going and keep running, try and figure something out. (Power dice)

>Run towards your pod, maybe you can find something you could break off and use as a weapon or something. (Nerd dice)

And I'm back. Lets see what's going on.

Alright so dropping on our back and kicking at him is definitely winning, there are some votes for cannibalizing various bits to augment the kick, but none have a lot of traction right now.

As it stands drop and kick is winning, that would be a regular power dice roll unless you want to try pumping it and manually forcing your muscles to contract more forcefully than is strictly speaking healthy.

So flash vote, ten minutes to decide do you want to pump the kick or not? If you do want to pump the kick, by how many dice?

Also last chance for any advocates of further desperate bio shaping to try and change things, then I'm calling it and writing.

>>3516756

You are absolutely right, but it is a very common misconception, and while our mc may be a nerd he doesn't know everything and will fall prey to bad info on occasion.
>>
>>3517192
We have three power dice right? I feel like our chances of succeeding with that are... low. Would cannibalizing boost it?

Okay, you can’t outrun him forever, he’s going to catch you. Can’t really fight him head on either, that hasn’t changed. Trying to square up would be stupid. Maybe a cheap shot? After all he’s a Meta, but he’s still a human male, his balls are probably still fairly vulnerable.

You’ll wait until he’s just about to catch you, then you’ll fall forward and roll onto your back and kick him in the nuts. Fuck the guy code, fuck fair fighting, you don’t want to die!

You consider trying to restructure your feet to make it more effective, maybe try and make some hooves to concentrate the force into a smaller area and put a hard edge to the kick. It would multiply the force a considerable bit after all…

But you don’t. You don’t understand how hoofs function, at least not well enough to gamble on replacing your feet with them. If you fuck it up you’re going to cripple yourself. It can’t be as simple as just replacing the foot and making a hoof come out of your ankle. Well, it might be, but what if the hoof doesn’t work right with the way a human ankle flexes and moves? And you’d be loosing surface area, balancing on a hoof probably takes a lot of practice.

In the short term that wouldn’t matter so much, just fuse everything into your shins and make battering rams at the bottom of your legs to smash Mammoths testicles into paste and call it a day, but what if you can’t fix it after? What if you can’t rebuild yourself functioning feet? You’re too scared to take the risk.

You may have eaten a few of your own organs, but they were things that even if you never get them back you can have a good quality of life without, loosing your feet would fuck you up for a long time.

So you leave things the way they are and when Mammoth is right on top of you, with maybe three feet between you and his left hand reaching out to grab at you, you throw yourself forward out of his reach and onto your back.

As your back hits the packed earth floor of the pit you draw your legs in and then with a shout you kick right at mammoths balls with everything you have.
>>
>>3517268

Your feet never make it to their target. Mammoth’s right hand flashes out and intercepts your legs, knocking them to the side and then taking hold of your left leg.

His meaty fingers wrap around your calves like a vice, and then with contemptuous ease he picks you up by one leg and flings you into the wall of the pit.

You slam into the concrete, the impact knocks the breath out of you, but you keep your head tucked and it doesn’t rattle your skull.

You fall down to the ground with a groan, gasping and trying to get air into your lungs. Your new awareness of your body tells you nothing is broken, Mammoth didn’t throw you very hard, but being picked up like that by one leg fucked it up. There’s a lot of torn muscle and strained tendons and ligaments where your left leg attaches to the hip, and the ball is out of the socket.

Groaning and gasping you crawl to all fours and order your muscles to start stitching back together, you inhibit swelling, you remember that’s what Ice packs are for. Can’t remember why you’re supposed to do that, but it’s important. Then you just speed up what the bodies already doing. You don’t know enough to micromanage how your body heals from injury, yet, but you figure it probably knows what it’s doing and just turbo charge it. It seems to work alright.

Once the muscular situation is looking better you order them to contract and flex to try and force your joint back into place. It takes a few tries, and you whimper at the pain, but eventually you get it back in place.

Your breathing has evened out by the time you’ve got your leg sorted out well enough you feel like you could put weight on it.This wasn’t a quick process, it took a minute or so, and you feel exhausted, both by the mental effort and what your body has consumed to make it happen. You’re pretty sure you’re at like less than 1 percent body fat at this point.

You have taken one dice of damage to your Power dice pool

Looking up you see that Mammoth is just standing there, looming over you, staring at you with those beady eyes. He watches you for a moment more, and then snorts and gestures at you with his hand flapping his fingers at you signaling you to get up. A kind of “come over here” gesture.

Well, at least he didn't kick you while you were down, though if you don’t get up you can’t guarantee he won’t start.

What do you do?

>Try to run, use your powers to keep your legs together and just run for it. (Power dice)

Slowly you get your feet under you and get ready. The behemoth that’s been chasing you seems content to give you a second, and you fully plan to make use of it. You glance around as you consider your options. Running away has proven to be futile. Attacking the brute that’s chasing you just got you tossed around like a rag doll. You can’t run away, and you can’t stand your ground and fight.

Well, you can’t run away but maybe you could still escape. You eye the wall next to you. Trying to run on foot didn’t work, but maybe if you go up ….

Well it’s worth a try at least, but the walls are sheer and smooth. There’s no handholds, so how could you do it? You’d need to stick to the wall somehow? Try and copy spider man from the comic books and make little hooks? No, that’s bullshit and you know it. Suction? Yeah, suction might work.

You had thought octopus were pretty awesome, so last year when you needed to do a report on an animal’s biology for the marine biology portion of your AP bio class you had chosen to do it on the mighty octopus.

The suckers in particular had been interesting, and you spent a good portion of the report on the function of that particular bit of anatomy. You bet you could recreate them, though they might not work as well out of water since it’s harder to make an airtight seal rather than a watertight one, it’s still worth a shot.

As Mammoth takes a step towards you, you enact your new plan. You leap at the wall, jumping as hard as you can. You get a pretty good vertical clearance, obviously you can’t measure it, but you peak over your shoulder when you impact the wall, you’re looking him square in the eye now rather than looking up to him.

As you jumped you started restructuring the surface of your hands, re-purposing some of the muscle from your legs to form muscular cups on your hands. One on each finger tip and five on the palm of each hand.

The suction cup of an octopus is made up of two parts. A flexible outer cup, and an inner chamber of muscle. The flexible outer layer conforms to the area of the surface and creates a water tight, or in this case hopefully air tight, seal. The muscle of the inner chamber then contracts, causing the inner chamber to get bigger. The water tight seal prevents more water from getting in to fill the now larger chamber, causing a change in pressure. And hey presto, suction.

You manage to finish forming the suckers right before you impact the wall, and as your hands touch the smooth surface of the concrete you push them flush and then start the suction.

To your amazement, it works. You aren’t an octopus, you don’t have the instincts for using suction cups, and you’ve certainly never practiced this. It was a long shot, and yet it works. Your body responds to your will and imagination, newly grown muscles fulfilling their function even if logically you know you shouldn’t be able to do it.

No time to think about that though, can’t contemplate how the fuck you’re doing this, you have more pressing matters to consider, like the giant gray fist coming towards your head right now.

You yank yourself out of the way with your shoulders and arms and push against the wall with your legs, throwing your body up and to the side like a rock climber launching themselves at a distant handhold.

Mammoths fist slams into the concrete where your body had just been with a loud crack, and you can see the concrete fracture, cracks radiating like a spider web from where his knuckles impacted the wall.

Small chunks of concrete fall and clatter to the ground as you pull yourself higher, scuttling out of Mammoths reach all the way up the wall until you’re nearly to the sealing. He watches you, shaking out the hand that he used to punch the wall.

He contemplates you for a moment, and you stare back waiting for him to once again give physics the finger and leap an improbable height up after you,

He starts to crouch in preparation to make what should be an impossible jump, when the speakers crackle on and the voice of the scientist is broadcast into the pit.

“That’s enough Mammoth” it says “We’ve gotten all of the data we need at this time. Fascinating, absolutely fascinating. Perhaps not the most impressive manifestation of the Meta-gene we’ve seen, but certainly useful. I wonder if they’d let me keep him for further study...”

A tinny sight escapes the speakers “Probably not. Ah well, there’s always the next series of test subjects I suppose. Keep an eye on him Mammoth, retrieval will be there shortly.”

You really don’t like the sound of ‘retrieval’, you eye the steel doorway Mammoth had come in through, which as far as you can tell is the only way in or out of the pit, but Mammoth positions himself between you and the door before you could try anything.

After a moment it slides open again and a short man in a hood steps in. He looks up at you and throws back his hood.

...Is that his fucking brain? That glass globe of a head has to be one of the most disturbing things you’ve ever seen. Seriously, that’s hideous.

“Well that isn’t a very kind thought at all” The pale man chuckles with a smirk, then he raises one hand to his temple and looks square at you before saying“ Psimon says, let go and fall [i/]”

You watch helpless as your suction cups relinquish their hold on the wall. You can feel your body doing it, but can’t do anything to counteract the sensation, and then you’re falling through the air. You plummet towards the earth, and squeeze your eyes shut and try to brace for impact, but rather than slamming into the ground, something catches you in mid air.

You open your eyes and see that Mammoth jumped up and caught you.

“Good, good” The pale man says, then his hand goes up to his temple again and he says “Now then, Psimon says sleep .”

You’re eyes flutter, and darkness overtakes you. The last thing you see is Psimon’s lips twist up in a smirk.
Your neck hurts. Or more accurately, the back of your neck hurts. You can feel something digging into the skin, and there’s a bone deep ache right under it. As you open your eyes and take you reach up to try and feel the back of your neck, there’s a round metal disk embedded in your neck positioned right over your spine.

You’re in a warehouse, or at least it looks like a warehouse. There’s a bunch of metal crates, and some guys with guns. At least you don’t see Psimon or Mammoth. You’re lying down on a gurney, which was presumably used to bring you here. You aren’t in a medical gown anymore at least, they’ve put you in some kind of baggy smock and pants. You aren't sure if you should be grateful to be in actual clothes, or disturbed that someone dressed you while you were unconscious.

One of the goons in front of you see you moving and pulls a pistol out and aims it at your head and then calls over his shoulder “Boss, it’s awake.”

In response to his voice one of the other men turns and looks at you. He steps forward and then pulls a small box out of his Jacket.

“Alright freak” He says as he brandishes the box at you “You get your ass up and get in one of those crates. Don’t give me any shit, or you’re gonna find out first hand just how much it hurts for Father box here to turn on your control implants punishment functions.”

Looking across the room you see that there are four open crates. Open, but not empty. Huddling in each crate is a teenager. One has a guy with a few piercings who looks out sullenly at the men with the guns and rubs his knuckles. The next one over has a red headed kid whose just staring at the side of his crate. He doesn’t react to the men moving around at all, he just keeps staring at the side of the crate.

The third one, well you can’t really tell too much, they’ve got their back turned to you and the baggy smock thing doesn’t really let you see the outline of their body too well. They’ve got kind of a punk hair cut and that hangs down on one side and reaches past their jaw line and is dyed blue...and it looks like their skin might be blue to actually, so maybe the hair isn’t a dye job. The fourth crate has a blonde girl with long hair who is cradling their face in their hands and sobbing.

The man with the box grunts and then gestures with the device before saying “Get a move on freak.”

What do you do?

Alright I'm gonna be gone for a bit. Things to do today and all of that, probably won't be back for at least two or three hours, possibly longer, though if that is the case I'll drop a line from my phone to let you all know.

Hope everyone's enjoying things so far. See you all when I get back.

ask for something to eat while doing this feel around the implant where it connects and stuff seems and other things.

We have points in hacking so we could try and work out what exactly the implant does. I wouldn't suggest trying to disable it just yet.

We need to test the implant.

Any reason we can't do that in a shared crate?
Maybe ask our fellow slave for information?
Also an opportunity to see if our power can effect others yet.

The crate is controlled by them, and they threatened to use it or activate us if we don't comply? Backtalk and demands like this>>3517749

>while others are more thinking in a kind creepy pervert way or in the still creepy waifu way

It's the curse of the first girl. People think she has the deepest personality or that we have a connection of some kind but it's simply that we know them the longest,

Anons, please don't flirt and waifu while we're being kidnapped and sold as supersoldiers.

Additionally, do you suppose we should gain weight? Since we're limited to our total body mass wouldn't it be efficient of us to gain fat which can then be changed without as many side effects as altering our organs?
>>
>>3518089
Yes, definitely. Being able to freely control the composition of the body means that having as much raw material as possible is a good thing. We must also remember to have as many minerals and nutrients as necessary on hand as well. I wonder, is this power constrained by the actual realities of biology?
>>
>>3518139
>constrained by the actual realities of biology?
It's unlikely that the QM is following the typical rules of biology since, you know, the entire power exists. Plus the pace at which we devoured our own organs and created octopi cups seems rather far fatched.
QM will probably be flexible at their own discretion, or follow basic constraints. For example since the human body is made up of 20% carbon (18 Kg on average) we can only create carbon weapons measuring up to that amount - rather then preventing this due to the organs and blood cells requiring the element to function.
>>
>>3518089

>Is this power constrained by the actual realities of biology?

Hell no, for a couple of reasons.

1. I am not a biologist. I haven't done shit with biology since I took AP bio in high school, and that ways years and years ago. I don't know enough to do any do realism justice.

2. This is comic book land, there's shit that breaks reality way harder. Pic related. Remember, Meta-humans are bullshit.

3. This is comic book land, it's not meant to be realistic it's meant to be awesome and thematic and tell a story.

4. You're the mc, you get cool shit. Ain't gonna just roll over and declare you unstoppable, it ain't fun that way, but you're not gonna end up some d-lister cause "biology doesn't work that way"

Alright and with that I'm calling it. Voting's closed lets see the results.
>>
>>3518257

....man I really need to stop and proof read shit before I post, there are way to many embarrassing typos in that post.
>>

i have been in quests like this before even if gaining weight is a advantage they dont want to do it there was even one where you had a certain amount of biomass you had and another quest that had a training/weight lose system and they where starving themself to be thinner rather then using it for muscle mass or as energy when running or surviving in the wilderness
>>
>>3518261
Meh, it reads just fine
>>
>>3518241
>>3518250
A seasnail? That isn't really my area of expertise but the shells are rather dense, what could we exchange to create our own?

We could always use lightening holes within our bones if we ever need calcium.

Would it be plausible to surround our d.phalanx with a strengthened muscle and constrain it until the bone shoots out like a bullet? Could an amplified muscle produce such a burst?
>>
>>3518195
This seems like a good way to go with: give tangible rules to the powers without going full realism with mass and shit.
I prefer for the MC of something to actually look cool, especially in capeshit, I'm not keen on looking like someone that should be demanding someone bring him Solo and the Wookie.
Plus, anons are aping the shit out of Prototype and Alex Mercer and I'm okay with that as an expy, hell it even works with the Nerd cliché since Mercer was a scienceboi.
>>
>>3518257

>>3518266
>starving themself to be thinner

>>
>>3518271
This sea snail is quite unique, as it has a very well-designed multi-layered shell which protects it from immense forces and is the only creature alive which integrates a form of iron into the shell.

Speaking of which, copying the skull designs of goats and/or woodpeckers would be quite prudent...
>>
>>3518282

You look at the guy, and briefly consider mouthing off to him and asking for your own crate while using your new senses to probe at your neck to try and figure out what’s up with the “control device”

It takes you a second to figure it out, at first it feels like there’s not really anything there. Yeah it’s drilled into your vertebrae, and that’s bad, but it’s just kinda sitting there. There’s just the device, and a whole bunch of nerves. Since it’s your spinal column, you were kind of expecting a whole bunch of nerves.

Then you realize that the nerve bundle in that particular vertebrae seems thicker than it is elsewhere, which leads you realize that there’s synthetic nerve fibers coming out of the device that have integrated themselves into your spinal column.

The fucking thing has literally made itself part of your nervous system, and seems poised to intercept the commands from your brain to your body, or to send your body false signals about what’s happening bellow your neck.

Depending on how good the tech in that father box is, and if they can make an artificial nerve system and integrate it into your own as seamlessly as your new senses indicate, they could literally puppet your body. Or convince your brain you were being dipped into boiling oil or flayed alive.

Suddenly, testing them and seeing how bad the “punishment” is doesn’t seem like the best idea.

You sit up and try to get off the gurney to make your way towards the crates, but you stumble when you try to stand and nearly fall.

Your stomach is an empty pit, your muscles are aching, and you feel so hungry and weak you just might collapse. Now that the adrenaline has worn off and your body has had a bit of time to process everything is screaming at you that you need FUEL now, or things are going to get bad.
“Get up” The man with the box says “Come on move it we don’t have all day”

You struggle to your feet and stumble towards the boxes. Everything hurts, but your legs definitely hurt the most.

“I’m starving” You say to the man “Literally, I need food or I think I might collapse.”

“Do I look like the lunch lady?” The man asks you as he gestures around at the warehouse “Does this look like a cafeteria to you? Just shut up and get in the box.”

You quiet down and keep going, but your legs give out and you fall to the floor and your stomach rumbles audibly.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me” The man says, then he turns to the side and addresses one of the other goons “Antonio get the Meta on his feet and give him a ration pack, we need to get moving if we’re going to be on schedule and the boss ain’t gonna be happy if he’s not conscious when they get the delivery. “

One of the men, Antonio you suppose, jerks you to your feet and reaches into one of the pouches on his vest before pulling out a brown packet that says “MEAL, ready to eat” he shoves it into your hands and then manhandles you into the nearest crate, the one with the sobbing blonde.

As you get shoved into the crate she raises her head from between her hands and looks to see what’s going on, and you are momentarily stunned. Not because she’s pretty or some stupid shit like that, frankly she looks kinda hideous with her eyes all red and splotchy from the crying she’s been doing, but because you recognize her. It’s kinda hard not to when she’s been on the news headlines for the last few days.

Now there’s been a lot of crazy stuff on the news lately. Aliens coming to visit, nearly blowing up the planet, being stopped by the Justice League. Honestly the Reach was all the news could talk about for a while, but lately there’s been a new story that’s been taking the prime time spot. After all, the kidnapping of a princess of the blood of one of the few nations that is still actively ruled by a monarchy is a pretty big deal.

Sitting across from you is Tara Markov, only daughter of the King and Queen of the sovereign nation of Markovia, who has been missing for 4 days.

The door to the crate slams shut and you hear a lock slide into place.

What will you do?

>Ignore her and eat

>Try to strike up a conversation (if you choose this option provide suggestions for dialogue)

>There’s a good sized slit in the door way that lets in air and light, you could probably see through it. Look through the slit and see what’s going on.

>Write in.

>Check under the gap to see if anyone is guarding.

>Once a short time has passed, introduce yourself, wait for her reply or ask if she understands English if she doesn't respond.

>Turn away from the girl and see if you have enough energy to move an eye to the end of your index finger. See if you can flatten it under the gap and spy for a bit.

>If you still have energy see if you can continue stretching your finger and explore the area. (Keep the finger skin close to corners and in the shadows!)

I mean if it really is that easy then there's no need for this extreme "goop" shit, just move the flesh around enough to expose the device lodged in our spine and ask our "roomie" to pull it out, the problem is if doing so might cause some kind of kill-switch function to activate and kill us or at least fuck us up very badly.

You’ll consider the fact that you’re locked in a crate with royalty later, there are more important things right now. You need to eat.

You tear open the outer packaging of the MRE you were given. Inside are a number of smaller pouches. You hold them up to the light so that you can make out what they say. The first pouch you hold up says ‘crackers’ you tear it open and shove one into your mouth to munch on while you look at the other packages.

After a few moments raising up packages to the light and squinting while munching on your crackers you determine that you have pouches that read “beef stroganoff”, “corn”, “peanut butter spread”, “dark chocolate granola bar”, a bag of skittles, and “gatorade mix”. You also have matches, toilet paper, and a chemical heating pouch along with other odds and ends, but you don’t need toilet paper and you aren’t going to bother to wait to heat things up.

After you’ve finished the crackers you tear open a corner of the beef stroganoff packet and tilt your head back, squeezing it straight into your gullet.

Being intimately aware of your digestive system is probably going to be an awkward experience you think, but frankly you could care less at this point. As the food hits your stomach it’s rapidly broken down for nutrients, which catches your attention. You know digestion doesn’t occur that quickly. It takes time.

Focusing on your stomach for a bit, you quickly come to the conclusion that when your Meta-gene was activated your brain wasn’t the only thing to change. What your feeling in your gut doesn’t correspond to the organ you remember learning about in anatomy classes. The shape is wrong for one thing, and you’re pretty sure a stomach isn’t supposed to be compartmentalized, or have a multitude of tentacles that end it little mouths that shred whatever drops in and sucks it up to run to the through the next step in the process.

There is weird shit going on in your gut, you frankly have no idea how it works or how to describe it without a more in depth study, but what you do know is that it’s breaking down the food you are shoving in your face almost as fast and you can choke it down. It's kinda freaky, but you aren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

As you squeeze out the last of the beef stroganoff and lick at the edge of the packet trying to get every last drop, you’re feeling a lot better. You’re still hungry, your body still demands fuel, but that helped to take the edge off and you feel much less faint.

As you contemplate which package to eat next you realize that the sobbing has stopped. You look up at the other occupant of your crate. In the dim light you can just make out that she’s biting at her lower lip and eyeing your remaining packages.

She hasn’t moved out of her corner though, and when she realizes you’re looking at her she quickly looks away, but she was definitely staring at your food.
>>
>>3519806

A part of you wants to just ignore her and finish eating, your instincts and your stomach scream at you not to relinquish a single bit, but it’d be pretty shitty of you to just eat it all in front of her alone if she’s hungry. After a moments contemplation, you pick up the packet with the granola bar and hold it out to her.

“Here” You say as you wiggle the bar in front of her “take it.”

She stares at it for a moment, and then she scuttles forward and snatches it out of your hand before retreating back to her corner of the crate. She watches you for a moment and then tears open the package and bites into the granola bar.

“Soo” You say as she munches on the bar and you reach for the package marked ‘corn’ “What’s your name?”

Perhaps not the best icebreaker, but you figure it’s better than asking ‘hey, are you that kidnapped princess I saw on the news?’

She stares at you and stops chewing for a moment, and then takes another bite from the granola bar.

Then the crate shakes, and you feel it moving. You sit up and look out of the slit to see what’s going on. Best you can determine the crate is being lifted with a winch onto the back of a flatbed attached to a semi. You can see the other crates already stacked and your crate approaching the open slot.

Your crate is set down with a thump, and you tear open the corn packet and swallow a mouthful.

“Guess you don’t speak English then” You say after you’ve swallowed the corn. “And I don’t speak Markovian, so I guess communication is off the table.”

She flinches when you mention her language, and then she says quietly in lightly accented English “How, how did you know I was Markovian?”

“Ah” you sigh as you scratch at the back of your head. Right, royalty. Probably had English tutors. “Recognized your face from the news, your parents launched an international manhunt when you went missing.”

You turn away from her and look back out of the crate while you finish the corn. Good news, signs are in English so you probably aren’t in eastern Europe, bad news, you don’t recognize any of the names.

Idly you consider trying to remove your control implant and escaping. You might be able to manipulate your nerves and untangle it. You prod mentally at one of your nerve fibers that is tangled up with the synthetic nerves and order it to pull loose.

Your reward for your efforts is a horrible pain as you experience what you could best describe as how you imagine it would feel to have a large group of people attempt to beat you to death with cheese graters.

You scream and fall to the floor, curling up protectively until the sensation dies down. You feel the artificial nerve reach out and reconnect itself. Okay, so they’re tamper proof, good to know. If you’re going to get that thing out you are going to need more information and some tools, or greater control of your power so that you can excise it all at once. Probably wouldn’t hurt to know what your spine was supposed to be like before you go at it too just in case you damage things getting it out.

Objective, remove the control device set. Dc 30. Nerd and Power dice if attempted with powers. Hacker if attempted otherwise. Please note that failure in future attempts will result in serious consequences.

“What happened” Tara asks you “What is wrong”

How do you respond?

I have a pretty efficient way to deal with psimon and the implant:
First: wait until we are sent on a mission (refine and practice with your power meanwhile), then harvest as much biomass as possible.
Second: Cover the implant nerves with scar tissue and bone, isolate it from your nervous system and rip it off.
Third: Enhance your vision and snipe psimon (when he is alone) with a bone spike, a fang or a dart with a neurotoxin
Fourth: Eat him and get the schematics for his brain, then get rid of mammoth (by psionic attack or bone spike through the head) and discover how his body works (how he is so strong, resilient and fast, even for someone of his size), and then everyone that tries to stop you. Try a nonlethal take down for those controlled by implants.

“What happened?” Tara asks you “What is wrong?”

“Other than the whole kidnapped and experimented on thing? Nothing.” You say as you struggle to sit back up. “I’m fine.”

You can’t see her too well in the dim light, but you’re pretty sure she’s looking at you like you are crazy. Before she can doubt your sanity any further you raise a finger to your lips and mime “shush”. You really hope she understands that. Do they use the same shush sign in Markovia? Is that universal or just an English thing? You heard once that different cultures have different hand signs. You’re just going to have to hope she gets it.

You repeat the shush gesture, and then reach for the packaging. You hold the bag of skittles up to the light and point at the I, and then point at yourself, and then point at the I again. She cocks her head, and then nods slowly, so you think she gets what you’re trying to do.

You point at the ‘I’ again, and then grab the peanut butter and point at the “T” then the “E”, followed by the “S” on the skittles and back to the peanut butter for “T” again. Then you turn and bring your fingers up to the device on your neck.

Her own hand reaches up and touches the back of her neck, then she looks down at the packages. Tentatively she reaches for the packaging, but she stops her hand a few inches away and then looks at you as if asking permission before she touches them.

You nod, and then she picks up the packages and looks at them for a minute, then she lays them in the light and starts pointing. “N” from the corn, “O” from the corn, “T” from peanut, “S” from skittles, “A” from peanut, “F” from stroganoff, “E” from peanut. She pauses for a moment and then continues. “S” from skittles, “E” from peanut, she lifts her finger and then points at “E” from peanut again. “K” from skittles, “I” from skittles”, “L” from skittles once, and then a second time.

She looks at you, points at her eyes and then away from herself, before bringing both of her hands up to her throat and rolling her eyes up into her skull. Then he shakers her head side to side once, up and down once, and then looks at you again.

What do you do?

>That last little bit of miming was asking if you understood. You think. Maybe. Nod just to be safe and then keep using the packaging to communicate. Ask her what she knows and what her powers are.

>Yeah no, the charades ain’t cutting it, let’s just wait until we can talk freely and stop the conversation there. We still got stuff to eat, and we can’t do that if we’re busy using it to

>Rather than try to explain using letters on the packages show her your powers, just change a finger or something, and then see if she will show you hers

We should combine the best of every method:
We become bigger (not monstruous, but 7 feet tall at least) and swoler, increasing our biomass storage and also becoming an intimidating fucker. We seek ways to compact as much biomass as we can (a few hundred pounds at first. Increased density will benefit us in many ways: strenght, endurance and, if we create dense fibers and structures instead of just mashing a lot of mass together, increased agility and speed). As a way to make our "I can store docens of tones of flesh without breaking the the ground and falling to the sewers" or "making myself so solid I can't even pump fluids" more rational, we should seek a pocket dimension (small at first, bigger with investment) and go full Zion from Worm.
>>
>>3520627
>>3520639
one of the virus infect ate the whole city compacted it all into there body and still had the weight of a normal human his size

mercer eats a giant monster a few hundred times his size or a 100+ humans and he can walk without cracking or sinking in the ground even if he has all that compacted into his body.

he can fuck around controlling his own weight
>>
>>3520644
Most of these are solutions we could only fix in the far future, it's unlikely we'll find a pocket dimension any time soon, plus I doubt we can control parts of our body that have been severed from the main portion of ourselves.

>if we create dense fibers and structures
So we create a 3d lattice structure with our bones, and use the remaining calcium for upgrades?
>>

Seeing as time is limited I probably won't respond to much right now, but I'm here and will get something up before I have to skedaddle again.
>>
>>3520644
Also, try to study a lot of anatomy, biology and physics from now on. Study not only the human body, but also animals, plants, fungus... every creature we find really. Physics is for finding ways of making our organism as dense as possible without making it collapse. Make this a priority, but we should learn as much as we can from everything else (we need a bigger better brain).

Also, how's the food?
>>
I thought of a way we could potentially rid ourselves of the control chip (- problem is, this method is quite likely not feasible in our current situation.)
So, the chip is connected to a small section of our spinal cord and a vertebrae, yes? Then in theory we can "snip off" said section of our spinal cord without touching the synthethic nerve fibers on the chip.

The problem with this method is that we may not have the knowledge necessary to regrow a missing portion of the spinal cord, making it VERY risky to attempt removing the chip like this.
>>
>>3520663

Next one after this would be in about 5 hours once I get off of work yeah, maybe a bit longer depending on traffic and how long it takes me to get home.

Foods good. Grilled veggies and chicken leftover from yesterday. I fucking love peppers.

Calling the vote and writing.
>>
>>3520658
I mean, maybe we can cannibalize and/expel it for boosts? That seems like a good way to always keep weight and mass balanced.
Say we jump really high but want to do the "impossible" move of changing direction mid jump? Airdash by shotgunning biomass in the opposite direction we want to go.
Say we want to fly for a limited time? Propel ourselves by expelling biomass at a constant rate.
Also, if we manage to be able to create extra brains, organs and such, we can create flesh constructs.
I'm also pretty sure we can't naturally regenerate beyond human limit, we don't have an "healing factor" as much as we're plugging holes and replacing what is lost through biomass manipulation, that has comes at some cost.
By the by, considering anons' propensity for moral-fagging and diplomacy, especially in capeshit, I'm expecting us to not be consuming the corpses of our enemies left and right, and unless we're rich or don't care for the law, we won't be consuming entire cattle either.

You nod to her. You’re pretty sure that last little bit of miming was her asking if you understood, and if that’s the case you got the message loud and clear. The control chips can be lethal. You really need to get that thing out of you.

You decide to ask her how she got here and what her powers are, but after looking at the packaging for a moment can’t find a large W. There are smaller ones, but they’re hard to make out and would be hard to point to, she might confuse it for one of the letters around it.

After a moments contemplation you come to a conclusion. Rather than point to the letters on the packaging you should be able to draw them on her palm. You move to reach out, but stop when you see your hand.

Your left hand still has the single claw you had grown earlier. You stare at it for a second, and determine that it would probably be best not to accidentally cut her, so you’re going to need to do something about it.

Well, you had been wondering if you could use your powers without the implant acting up, this seems like a good opportunity to test it. You focus on the nail, and imagine it being broken down and smoothing back out, picturing a normal finger nail. There’s a sensation of pressure and then you see it shrinking back down until it’s once again blunt and thin like the rest, and there’s no pain from the implant.

Apparently you can use your powers, at least on a small scale, without repercussions. you just shouldn’t mess with the implant directly.

With your hands safe again, you slowly reach out towards her hand. You stop a few inches away from her hand, the same way she had hesitated before taking the packets, and then look at her and smile. She stares at you for a moment, and then nods her head.

You take one of her hands between yours and then flip it palm up and trace the words “I understand” across her palm.

She nods and then she pulls gently at your right hand until your palm is facing up and traces on your palm “Do you know where we are going?”

“No” You trace back “I don’t. How did you get here?”

“My Un-” She starts to trace and then stops and starts again “A man took me from my home. He took me somewhere, and then there was a loud noise and a bright light and I was somewhere else.”

You think about that for a moment, that sounds uncomfortably like some sort of teleportation. If they have access to something like that, you could end up anywhere, and it would make it much harder for cops or the Justice League to track them.
>>
>>3520713

You think for a moment more and start writing on her palm again. “They experimented on me, gave me powers. Did they do the same to you?”

You have to know if she’s being kept for Meta-powers, or if she’s been kidnapped for more conventional reasons like ransom.

She shudders and breathes deeply for a moment before hesitantly writing across your palm “Yes. There was a black water, it covered my mouth. I thought I would die, but instead it changed me.”

“What are your powers?” You ask

“I” she signs and then hesitates, she looks at you, then at the empty wrapper of the granola bar, and then she starts writing again. “In my country there is a legend, that long ago the royal family was blessed by God with control of the mountains and the earth to keep Markovia safe. Now I wonder if they were true. I control dirt and rock.”

Geokinetic huh, that’s pretty amazing. You wonder what her upper limit is, how many tons she could move.

When you go to flip her hand palm up so you can write she resists and shakes her head, then starts writing on your palm again.

“Who are you? How did you get here?” She asks.
How do you respond?

Now on the subject of mass and fat, before I go.

Fat can be used, but you'll get a lot more bang for your buck from muscle. Muscle is denser and takes up less volume than fat. It's also more useful in its default state, and a lot of what you make is going to be making muscle.

So while having some fat would be nice for energy stores, if we're talking max mass and max utility, getting buff is the way to go.

Being a lardass would be funny though, and possibly a good cover.

Truth be told, this is much better and I prefer it. Learning about character thru story rather than info dump in chargen is preferable

So, do we attempt to take Terra with us in our inevitable escape attempt?
We can probably do some hyperadvanced surgery with our powerset when we get better with it to remove both our circuits.

Also I just realised but Terra and the Traffickers will basically be the only people who've ever seen our original face and know our true identity if we change our face permanently.
And I don't intend to let these traffickers get away with this.

I don't want to kill them but can somebody say Lobotomy?

>Also I just realised but Terra and the Traffickers will basically be the only people who've ever seen our original face and know our true identity if we change our face permanently.
True, it may be for the best if we disguise ourselves for the short while after we escape. Maybe change our height and ethnicity.

>I don't want to kill them but can somebody say Lobotomy?
We could create crab claws or sharpen our fingers to a needle's width, stick it in their jackseye and make the needle spiky.

I think ouroboros works as a villain name, but for a hero name, maybe something like 'the bird of hermes', or hermes/bird for short? Also related to autocannibalism, has a relation to vampires like the pillar men and with changing form as a trade, and works as a vague enough name we don't give hints?
>>
Alright, I'm home. Calling the vote.

Give me a bit to read everything and figure out how I want to handle what comes next, and we'll get the write up going. Also dinner, dinner would be good.
>>
>>3521203
I still like Synthesis the most.
Hermes also exists already as the actual god iirc.
>>
>>3521203
I still don't get why Ouroboros is a villian name, is it for Wesker?, because is a serpent/dragon eating itself? (Because is the simbol of clan tzimisce, whose members are fleshcrafting vampire pychos?), seriously, both the historical meaning and the alchemical one are kind of positive, the only edge I see there is the simbol itself, not the meaning.
>>
>>3521157
If we really wanna get rid of it. Disconnect the surrounding tissue around the implant and eject it. We'll lose some tissue in the process but there isn't anything they can do about it given our powers. After that, all we gotta do is regenerate what we lost.

To guard against brainwashing all we have to do is create another hidden brain that will cannibalize the brain that got brainwashed. Same is true for defending against mind fuckery. How many brains can you hack vs how many brains we can create/devour?

One thing I wanna point out with our powers we can literally create a mutagen virus that can share some of our abilities and influence its hosts for us. Use this to create spies, enhance friendly supers, and upgrade minions.

We can also create fleshy abominations that are in truth disguised clones of ourselves. We just disguise said clones as horrific abominations so its impossible to tell. Good luck trying to kill us when we can swap at will.

Honestly, with our powers, we seem to lean more towards going full supervillain and hellish living nightmare. Another thing I wanna point out is that we don't have to store biomass within ourselves. If we create our own pets or establish lairs we can store easy to assimilate biomass within them to devour as needed...

I find its best to think ourselves as a living sentient mutagenic virus who just happens to take the form of a human in terms of coming up with what we can do.
>>
>>3521229
Good point about the other meanings, hadn't thought of that. I think it might just be the sound of the name, or the general depiction of snakes and serpents in media. Idk, it just sounds foreboding to me.
Maybe we could have him use multiple names later on? Goes by one name to other capes, another one for civilians, and another for villains and criminals?
>>
>>3521237
Why not just have a different name every time we change appearance?
>>
>>3521233
I wouldn't say we lean more towards going supervillain, there's plenty of good that can be done with the manipulation of the body. Those viruses you talk about can be used to actively fix people's bodies rather than anything malicious. Enhance friendly superHEROES. Fuck cancer right up the ass. We can make some refined looking creatures rather than fleshy abominations to act as watchdogs for crime. Depending on how bullshit this comic book science gets, maybe we can create lifeforms that feed on garbarge and just solve a fuckton of humanity's problems.

All for that one moment in which we reveal ourselves to be a supervillain and have full access to every living being with our cells inside them, of course. Man, it's nice to have good publicity.

“My name is Joseph Mercer” You trace across her palm “But please, call me James.”

“I...” You pause for a moment before continuing. Hopefully she can’t see you flushing with embarrassment. “I answered a self help advertisement online. They grabbed me when I went to the address on their website.”

So stupid. Seriously, not trusting people online and never going to strange addresses is the first rule of online safety, but it had seemed legit. It wasn’t like you were talking to somebody in a chat room who wanted to meet up.

Best not to dwell on that. Moving on. She trusted you with what her powers are, only right you tell her what yours are. You don’t even really consider omitting information or lying. After thinking about it for a moment you decide on how you want to explain it.

“You control the earth” You trace across her palm “I control my flesh. After I came out of the Tar they put me in a pit with a giant who tried to hurt me. I converted other parts of my body to make my legs stronger so I could run.”

As you finish tracing your message across her palm she starts to shake, and you hear her sniffle. You can’t tell for sure, but you think she might be crying again. She pulls at your hand signaling you to give her your palm so she can trace letters, and you do so.

“That is horrible” She traces across your palm with a shaking finger “Is that what is going to happen to us? Fighting for our lives in pits?”

Her finger stops moving, it just sits there for a second then she draws in a rattling breath and pulls her finger off of your palm.

“Why, why are they doing this?” She sobs aloud.

You’re contemplating how to respond, or if you should respond, when you realize you are no longer moving and you can hear men talking outside of the crates. You were so focused on your conversation and figuring out what she was spelling you hadn’t really been paying to much attention to what was going on outside, but now you listen intently.
>>
>>3521494

“Made it in time” says one of the men “A few minutes to spare even.”

“Just call up the boom tube and send them along” Says another voice “I don’t wanna be here any longer that we have to.”

“Right right” Says the first voice “One second.”

There’s a chime, and then a boom and a bright golden light. The crate shakes, and then it feels as if you are sinking. The sinking sensation lasts a few seconds, and then you stop moving and the light disappears. There’s a moment of silence, and then there’s an electronic ding, and the door to your crate falls open.

“Everyone out of the crates” A man shouts, voice amplified by a megaphone. “Now!”

You hesitate a moment, and then step out of the crate before reaching back a hand to help Tara climb out. Once both of you are out of the crate you look around.

You’re standing on a rocky beach. It’s cold, frigid even. You can see trees further inland, but only one building. A large squat mass of concrete. A charitable person might compare it to a low income apartment building. In your opinion, it looks like a fucking prison.

Standing in front of you is a group of Five. In the center is a middle aged woman with her auburn hair up in a tight bun wearing a pantsuit. On her right hand side is an older man with streaks of gray in his hair holding a clipboard and a Father Box. On her left is a younger man with a buzz cut holding a megaphone. They are flanked by two men holding large guns. You’d say riffles, but these don’t look like any guns you are familiar with. They look more like ray guns from a Scifi movie than anything, but something about the boxy profile of the weapons they are holding is menacing.

Looking to either side there are a little more then a dozen crates like the one you just came out of on the beach, and there’s about eighteen teenagers that have piled out of them onto the beach. You recognize the three from the crates next to you. The sullen kid and the catatonic kid are here, as is the blue kid. Who was apparently a girl. Good to know.

Looking around you see that.

>You and Tara are two of the youngest teenagers here. Most of the others are older than you. (age set at 14)

I only say that because honestly, our powers are pure nightmare fuel and thankfully very hard to identify. We can easily masquerade as a shifter until its too late. Trying to go hero would be most difficult considering just how horrible our powers really are. Now antihero might be possible...even if the other heroes would honestly be more scared of us then the villains.

Woah wait does our age determine what we know about the human body and animals? I mean typically you'd know more about biology as you go through school. Considering how much we've already shown we know, we gotta be pretty dang smart if we're young.

>>
>>3521674

Nerd (4) in this case is. Damn, you are smart.

No dice pool can go beyond 6 dice. That is the hard cap. We have 4/6 possible in Nerd. We are damn smart. Honestly it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume we skipped grades or took advance placement, so having done an AP bio by 14 wouldn't be impossible. If we pick an older age we might have audited some college courses even.

Ultimately it can be whatever you all want, and we will make the story fit it from there. Considering dc comics has Tim drake, who figured out batman's identity based on a vague memory from when he was a small child and then self taught himself to be Robin before he was thirteen and could do all kinds of advanced hacking and shit (I know I'm misrepresenting it slightly, but that's pretty damn close to what happens) I don't think it would be unreasonable to have us be really really good at science or some shit like that even if we were younger.

Older or younger it is entirely up to all of you, and I will work with whatever you give me to make the best story and experience I can.
>>
Real quick before I go to bed, Just wanted to say I love all of the cape names. Much better than anything I would have come up with if put on the spot. They're all great. >>
>>3521801
Fat Joe came from the discussion we had about how best we could gain additional mass. QM has stated that building muscle will be more efficient than building fat, at least in terms of mass gain and potential shifts we could accomplish. So if we really do create fat Joe then it'll be a facade at best.

Also yes, a full thot body is possible.
>>
>>3521820
>Let's hope we can shift into some kind of fish to escape. We could inflate into some kind of boat if we want to rescue Tara as well.
We could also transform into a whale or something if we get enough biomass, and when we escape we carry Tara and whoever else we might choose to take inside us.
>>
>>3521834
Abandoning Tara once we realise it's easier to escape without her could be an interesting plot point for later use...

In any case we want to be rid of the implant. Eig set the DC at 30. We have 4 nerd dice and the base rate is 3. If we use our powers we roll both our power and nerd dice, meaning we roll 10d6? QM?
>>3521736

Actually abandoning Tara would bite us on the ass in the long term for our escape. Since they know who we really are. Therefore we cannot go back home or reclaim our original identity. Tara is a Princess of an entire country who would be oh so very grateful to have her back. So it would be the best possible place to go in terms of safety during our escape. If we return their princess they grant us refuge and a new identity. Tara is actually someone we need for our escape. So we are stuck with her, if only for her connections.

>>3521824
Fat Joe is still a great disguise. Just throw fat on top of the muscle and use fat as a cushion for our organs. Still, look like a fat ass but is secretly a very strong one with superpowers.

I can understand why you would want that plot but as a player, I do not want the MC to make that mistake.

As for our immediate family, they probably think we ran away or got kidnapped. They will be fine until our escape. since the people who took us, have no reason to target them until then. Keeping them in the dark is a must after we escape they will be watched closely since they'll be expecting us to make contact with them or attempting to use them as bait.

As for our education, our power is reliant on us being smart. Meaning they will be forced to teach the MC in particular. Since they obviously aren't going to waste our superpower and relies upon our own knowledge. In fact, they will even force us to serve in medical once they realize we can upgrade our own body so a better understanding is a must.

The other kids will probably be very jealous of our 'easy' treatment but you don't fuck with the medic and we can't skip combat training.

Besides, if we escape we can get the Justice League to help us.

Also it's DC ffs, I don't quite feel like being stomped by the heroes on a villain/antihero route.

Anon, I ain't complaining about moralfaggotory. I just like MCs to have fears and concerns which ultimately lead to poor decisions- who leaves because he can't figure out how to save anyone and fears his chance to escape is closing, rather than a cold and strategic mc who immediately abandons the group for his own survival.

One pro I can think of is that lying low would be relatively easy.

Oh, my own two cents on leaving people behind?
We absolutely have to. At most I can see us escaping with one, maybe two people tops. We should be able to render our own control chip a non-issue, but what about the chips in others?

Unless we figure out how to use our fleshsculpting on other people, become able to perform neurosurgery or succeed in hacking the chips it's just not happening.

Hmm. I wonder what the range on that Father Box is. can it track the control chips?
So many questions...

I'm only interested in rescuing the kids who would be of use. Mostly due to the difficulty in escaping with them in tow and how useful they are as in worth the trouble involved. Tara happens to be oh so very useful to the point we have to take her with. She is vital in fact.

As for moralfagging...I took one look at our power and went 'there is not a chance in hell we are going to be a hero'. That shit is pure nightmare fuel. Villain, antihero, mercenary, I don't really know or care. I just think in terms of the MC that with his superpower of pure nightmares incarnate he REALLY ain't gonna turn out to be a hero. I just don't see it happening. I'm sorry. Will he actually be a monster? I hope not. Him having the appearance of a monster but having a caring heart even if he is one twisted motherfucker sounds far more interesting.

It's not his fault he became a monster but the fact of the matter is...he is one. His powers are nightmarish and if anyone knew the truth they would consider him far too dangerous, but that doesn't make him a vile character or pure evil. He's just one unlucky son of a bitch is all. So in terms of morality, his superpower ensures he is never going to be a good guy or much less a hero. It just ain't happening with that kinda nightmare fuel of power. I'm not interested in handicapping him like that or revealing his secrets because of the heroes if they knew the truth would absolutely be his #1 greatest enemy.

>>3522033
Our superpower can affect others too we just don't know how to do it yet.
>>
>>3522033
We should at least try to escape with Tara
>>
>>3522037
Nice attempt to go down the villain route but nah, fuck you.
Our powers are incredibly versatile and don't require us going full nightmare mode.
I don't get your reasoning.
We don't need to take the appearance of a monster and can in fact shift our appearance to anybody we want.
Hell, just our shapeshifting makes us a useful hero.
And if we can use our powers on other people that makes us an excellent healer.
>>
>>3522037
>if anyone knew the truth they would consider him far too dangerous
This is bullshit.
Pretty much anyone with a top tier superpower is dangerous. Doesn't mean Superman has to wear a kryptonite bomb collar.
>>
>>3522046
We'd be a hoot as a magician's 'sexy' assistant. Especially if we can shift our skin to appear as clothing!

As for cape name, I vote for Cyto, short for cytoplasm, which is too long and clunky. It's biology related and emphasizes the malleability of our form. Also sounds cool.

Remember that we don't HAVE to use an already established ability. It is true that copying nature would be easier though.
>>
>>3522037
>>3522048
It's less about the power aspect, and more about the icky factor, which is exacerbated by the power. I don't think we could ever be a mainstream, parent-approved, Justice League superhero, but we could still be an underground hero/vigilante. That'd be cooler too.
>>
>>3522070
Yeah but copying nature gives a good base.
Also they are examples of what's actually possible.
>>
>>3522071
Justice League Dark exists.
We also don't have to use our power in the most nightmarish ways possible.
It's a highly versatile power in what it can do.
Icky factor be damned if we can perform hyperadvanced lifesaving surgery on people in the field.

What I like about a lot of those natural abilities is that they don't require too much mass (which I think will be a limiting factor when it comes to sheer power for us). Especially imitating the wall-crawling of the gecko (DARPA has a prototype using the same mechanism so yes, Van de Waals force scale up to human size) or imitation of the lyrebird.

>Poison Skin (Poison Dart Frog)
We can do better than that ... http://theconversation.com/the-worst-kind-of-pain-you-can-imagine-what-its-like-to-be-stung-by-a-stinging-tree-103220
Cover our skin with a furry coat of microscopic glass needles and use that to deliver a mix of agony juice and heart-stopping frog venom.
Hell, with a bit of bit of creativity we might even be able to cough balls of the needle/poison mixture at people.

We've got a shifter power and a history of being a Wallflower, so it's perfect. Although really, until power level increases, underground shit is the only stuff we can do anyway. Even after we're stronger, having the attention of the Justice League or Legion Of Doom or any top-tier group is gonna be a pain in the ass.

Oh, nice timing. I was just about to start tallying the votes to help speed things up.

>>3522055
I was thinking about insectoid compund eyes for a massive view angle, but apparently they have crap image resolution so it might not be worth it.

Another idea I had was that when we eventually start making our combat body, what's to stop us from stepping out of said combat body with our normal, human appearance? We'd effectively 'shed' off the combat body and leave it 'parked'
Think of it like a fleshy Mech suit.

Oh well, my main reason was just for extra experience and knowledge in bio and OP shut that shit down anyway. Perks of being a huge nerd I guess
>>
>>3521844

To answer your question you currently have a pool of 4 nerd dice, and a pool of 3 power dice, so if you make a combined Nerd + Power roll you roll 7d6. Now, that could hit 30, but it's rather unlikely, and if you fail there will be consequences. If you wanted to safely make the roll, statistically you'd need 9d6, as the average roll of 9d6 is around thirty one or thirty two.

In the event you didn't wish to wait for however long it would take you to gain two dice in either Nerd or Power or some combination thereof, you could choose to do a pump. Pumping a dice roll does allow you to exceed your normal limits, however a pump represents surpassing your limitations knowing you will likely hurt yourself doing it, and carries mechanical consequences. Were you to pump the roll by 2 dice in order to have the target pool of 9d6, then following the roll you would take two dice of damage to the pool you had pumped, which would be your power pool.

Now unlike a mid combat pump where you strain or tear some muscles that can be fixed up after the fighting is done, this would represent damage done to your spine. This damage to your power pool would eventually be reparable, but it would take time and effort to recover.

So you could choose to try and remove the implant right this second if you wished. Just brute force it, excise part of your spine and hope you can patch up whats left, but it would mess you up. If you wait then you can do it more safely, but there's the chance that while you wait other factors could come into play which would make your escape more difficult.

As always I respect your agency as players to do what you feel is best, and what you feel the character would do, but there will always be consequences for your actions no matter what way you jump.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to influence the vote. I don't want to influence things unduly, and if I did so in this instance I apologize.

I just wanted anons to understand that mechanically your knowledge and ability would be the same either way, the difference would have been in the character and the story, not in your ability to use your powers.

Looking around you see that you and Tara are two of the youngest teenagers here. Most of the others look older than you. It’s an eclectic bunch. Redheads with pasty freckled complexions, tattooed pacific Islanders, Blondes both natural and bleached, Blacks, Latinos, Asians. Little bit of everything in this grab bag really.

You’re attention is pulled away from observing the other teenagers by the amplified sound of a woman clearing her throat. You look over and see that the woman in the pantsuit is now holding the megaphone. She smiles and then begins to speak.

“Hello children.” She says in to the megaphone. “Welcome to the Higher Institute for Vocational Education. My name is Adeline Wilson nee Kayne. I am the headmistress of this fine institution of learning.”

Her voice is chipper. Honestly she sounds like the motivational speaker at a pep rally. The contrast between how happy she seems and the dour surroundings, and y’know the armed guards with guns, is rather jarring.

“First of all I’d like to congratulate you all on your admittance into our program.” She continues. “You are the Elite of your generation, the hope for the future of the human race, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with you.”

“What the fuck are you on about you crazy bi-” One of the teenagers on your left shouts before collapsing to the ground and writhing in pain while screaming. You can see the man with the clipboard holding up the Father Box.

The woman pauses until the kid stops screaming and then starts speaking again. “Please do not interrupt. It’s rude. If you have any questions please hold them until the end of orientation. Now, where was I?”
>>
>>3522279

“Ah yes, class schedules.” She says, and then gestures at one of the gunman. He lets his riffle hang from a strap around his neck and takes the clipboard from the man with the father box, and then slowly approaches the group of teenagers.

“Please wait in an orderly fashion to receive your individual schedule” The ‘headmistress’ says. “Each of you has been assigned classes specifically tailored to your needs based on your performance during your entrance examination.”

“Here at the Higher Institute for Vocational Education it is our aim to help you become the best you can be, and help you prepare to join the workforce as productive members of society.” The woman continues as the man passes out papers to the teenagers slowly working his way towards you. A few eye the man and his riffle with considering eyes, but the prominent display of the Father Box seems to stifle any thoughts of making a move.

“Our curriculum is high paced and intensely focused on necessary skills only, allowing us to complete your education within eight months rather than wasting your time with unnecessary filler classes like some institutions.” The woman says with a smile. “And, we guarantee employment upon graduation. Isn’t that wonderful?”

It is at about this time that you get handed a piece of paper by the man going around with the clipboard. It has your name and a mug shot picture of you unconscious in the left hand corner. At the top it proudly proclaims “Schedule”

Looking at it you see there are three different class slots that alternate days, that Sundays are labeled “test day”, and that your evenings are listed as “free time”. The first class is designated as “Power management.”

The other two classes are listed as...

Cut burglar should work nicely with wallflower.

>>
>>3522280
>Acquisitions
>Interpersonal relations
Agility and stealth + actually knowing how to fight. Both of these have great synergy with our power for either lethal and unlethal sneaky sneak or fighting.
The way I see it, things like hacking and detective work can be left to goobers and handlers. We are nature/science nerds not computer geeks anyway.
>>
>>3522298

Generally it's going to be one cliche and power dice, or just one cliche.

The only thing that can stack onto a cliche is your power dice, cliche's can not stack with other cliches.
>>
>>3522298

You are right though that cat burglar and wall flower have some really nice potential synergy from a potential mechanical standpoint.

While you can't use them at the same time, you could potentially use both in the course of an infiltration by switching off between going unnoticed and picking locks and crawling through ventilation shafts.

>Is ending up in HIVE worse than being snatched by the League of Shadows?
On one hand, it's high school for villains.
On the other, it's a place where we can network, and you get apprenticed to a villain after you graduate.
On the extra hand, it's high school. For villains.

FUCK HIVE
>>
>>3522374
Well, to simplify things, the League of Shadows is just a group of a skilled assassins. HIVE also has assassins but they also have full blown supervillains. Here they also have the Fatherbox as well, which means access to just about anywhere they damn well please. I'm not too sure about the League but HIVE is definitely capable of brainwashing, or at least mind controlling, so we are fucked extra hard if we stay too long. I think it would be easier (but still difficult) to escape from the League than HIVE.
>>
Also, I want to touch on the choices of subjects.
>Advanced Negotiation
Not very useful, as our power doesn't lend itself to con jobs yet. Low priority.
>Advanced Troubleshooting
This also doesn't mean with our power, since we'll probably tend to use brute force and maneuverability until we gain enough control and knowledge of biology to do fun things.
>Electronic Warfare
Now this is fun. It covers the base our power can't and we already have an affinity for it. This is a definite pick.
>Acquisitions
It could work well with our power in the future. Possible pick.
>Practical Analytics
Not our MO, yawn.
>Interpersonal Relations
Now this is the gold. Knowing how to fight would be a godsend if we mixed it with our power. Definite pick.
>>
>>3522280
>>Advanced troubleshooting (potential to gain cliché “Hit Man”)
>Interpersonal relations (potential to gain cliché “Martial Artist”)
Perhaps we could eventually get to Kimimaro tier body manipulation combat.
>>
>>3522393
>Now this is the gold. Knowing how to fight would be a godsend if we mixed it with our power. Definite pick.
I get your point on how Martial Arts would benefit us, though I feel we should learn Acquisitions since this is a school for villainy so the teachers should be some of the most prolific or proficient in their trade. I don't want to be a hardhead but the number of heroes and villains who known Martial Arts far outnumber those who are experts at stealing, seducing, pickpocketing and lockpicking. We can learn martial arts in the future while this, this is a rare opportunity.
>>
>>3522394
Oh, I remember that guy. And I think this level of body manipulation is... probably mid-tier considering how wide our powerset is compared to just bone control.
>>
>>3522405
True, but one should also consider what fits Jim -- at the moment he's a bruiser and not much else. What he'll be doing for now (until we can start scanning brains) is punch, stab and possibly shoot things.

However, that's just my two cents, and I'll concede that he does have affinity for Acquisitions.
>>
>>3522394
Why stop there? We can go even further with shrapnel, poisoned points and edges, infectious marrow... the possibilities are endless once we reach that point.

Anons, I think there may be a misconception here. When I drop these last calls, I'm not sitting here watching the thread waiting for the timer to run out. I'm usually going about my business. I drop in for a few seconds to give everyone an idea of when I'll be done with what I'm doing and will take a moment for the quest. I do this as a courtesy so anons know what to expect and when to expect me to be around.

I'm sorry to say that with my schedule a few updates a day with several hours between updates is the only schedule I can reasonably fallow for the Quest. I apologize if you find this unsatisfactory. I understand that waiting can be frustrating, but I'm afraid that I can not reasonably do twenty to thirty minute timers, or even one or two hour timers. I mean I could, but that wouldn't speed up the updates any because I'd still have to wait until I would be able to take a minute to write, so I leave the voting open until I'm here and ready to write.

Regretfully this is unlikely to change anytime soon. I may update more frequently on weekends, or on days when I have more free time, but I can't guarantee that. I'm afraid I have to ask you to understand that. I appreciate your participation in the quest, and I appreciate your advice. If I were in a position to do so, I'd happily follow it, but I'm afraid I can't.
Anywho, I need to get caught up and tally votes. I hope for your continued participation.
