Hello and welcome back to Synthetic Gods Quest.Twitter: https://twitter.com/Hivemind_ChanArchives: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Synthetic%20Gods%20QuestCurrent inventory: https://pastebin.com/gyZLMiNGPreviously mentioned individuals: https://pastebin.com/LUJ5fyqAPlayer suggested project tracker: https://pastebin.com/BzmXGRhq_________________________________________________________ In the last session we talked with Nike’ about Verdandi’s precognition and our village’s peculiar geopolitical position. Luckily, we weren’t discovered just yet and there might be a few promising developments in regards for our independence and future relations with other pantheons. However, that is probably far in the future and Nika decided to join your New Year celebration after a small confusion with a psi-charged ring. We gave out our presents and talked Haven into joining us in our adventures on a more permanent basis.
>>3266639You are a little bit torn in how you should feel about this New Year celebration. It was nice, a lot of people had fun, you gave out the presents, did some performances and you were the heart of the party. Even Nike’, who decided to unwind a little, looked like she was having a good time. However, you feel a bit strange. You weren’t that outgoing before. In fact, you were probably the most introverted person in your entire university course. You trained yourself to talk to people normally so you didn’t stutter or freeze up but after you were done with a chat you felt drained and it was increasingly uncomfortable to talk to people for more than a couple hours. You don’t think that the pod made you into an extravert. You didn’t enjoy the party more than you would normally do even though the uncomfortable sensations were gone. You would still prefer a lot less people to hang out with. Maybe you should look a little bit more into how exactly you behave after the pod. There might be other things that changed but you never noticed. In any case, you think that the day went unexpectedly well even if we don’t account for the party. The information that Nike’ gave you is invaluable for your future plans. While you think that it might be a good idea to ally yourself with Cenophilan pantheon, you would prefer to have your life in your own hands. Nika probably has a lot of responsibilities as a war goddess. She has to maintain an image and she is expected to train Cup Bearers, deal with dangerous monsters, explore the unknown territories and negotiate with other deities among other things. Not that you wouldn’t need to do those things if you were independent but you would prefer to have more control of your priorities and goals. You think that if you play your cards right you might be able to stay independent and ally yourself to some if not all of the pantheons. You are in a position where no one would try to force you to pick a side so potentially you can position yourself as a fully independent entity. In addition, the unclaimed lands in the area could be claimed by you and turned into your own miniature state of sorts if you wish to pursue this route. Of course, you could just move to Elspen and join the gang or any other pantheon in the area. Holy Nation rubs you a bit wrong with their policies on religion but if you decide to join them you would have more power proportionally compared to the other three and you could maybe force them to change that. You don’t like Valistrat “school gang” approach to their pantheon structure but you have no idea on what people are they. Etheans might be nicer since they made a nation of trade and that implies relatively high freedoms but you know next to nothing about them. You really need to brush up your knowledge on the other countries before you are found. Maybe you could chat up that orc fellow?
>>3266643The last thing you did on that day was catching Nika before she left. You just finished her present as she was preparing to leave and she was impressed by how quickly you managed to make something that complicated. She promised to place it in her personal oracle shrine as it has a domed ceiling that would fit the projector perfectly. You also asked her if she could get a healer to repair the numerous cut tendons of the freed slaves. You could perform a surgery to fix a dozen tops but there would be an almost one in ten chance of a failure so you prefer not to risk it. She says that she can ask a Mortati’s Asklepian to come over and heal all of those people since they do show up for disasters and heal the wounded. However, you might want to look into finishing the walls and getting dwarves settled first. Nika thinks that “dwarves did it” would be enough to convince the Cup Bearer that a new deity or something like that was not involved and that would also explain Vera’s prediction on the rapid growth of the settlement. Farsalos would be straight on a trade path between Cenophila proper and the only dwarven settlement with an access to the surface in the entire region. She asks you if you are willing to wait until then or if you don’t really care.>You want to get done with the walls and dorfs first, good idea>You’ll deal with the dwarves first and then you will mask rapid construction with their involvement. Wall can wait for now>You’ll set off to get the dwarves immediately and Nike’ can ask for the healer in the meantime. If there are delays you can just bullshit that away, right?>Healing is more important. You will either lie that dwarves are already set up or just eat up the risk of getting revealed
>>3266651>>You want to get done with the walls and dorfs first, good ideathey are safe for now, so they can wait a couple weeks or a month, this will be important for the long term, meanwhile they can get properly settled and get along with the other villagerslet's make Farsalos great again and build that wall
>>3266651>You want to get done with the walls and dorfs first, good idea
>>3266669This. With the wall compleate we can get our friends and explore those water tunnels in search of dorfs.
>>3266651>>You want to get done with the walls and dorfs first, good idea
>>3266730Nike’ nods and says that she will check up on you in a couple months. She says that judging by your description it would take dwarves from four to six months to get their city running self- sufficiently if they somehow agree to start rebuilding immediately. She wishes you all the luck with negotiations, excuses herself and teleports out. You wonder how she does it. If she was using subspace or some creative spacetime engineering you should see the after effects due to your powers but you can’t. She is just there and then she is not as if she was edited out between frames in a movie. With the party recently held most villagers decided to plan out and prepare the construction of the village wall. The underground foundation and the towers were already assembled and they are reinforced sufficiently to potentially carry counter siege machines like ballistae, trebuchets and even bombard batteries. The upper level of the tower has machicolations and battlements but the walls are essentially only waist high and you haven’t planned what you want to put on top. Maybe even just a roof to protect against arrows and elements or maybe both a roof and a siege engine? You’ll need to decide some time later but for now you wrote down your thoughts into the project list. The bricks you planned to use for the wall were somewhat depleted due to all of the construction you had to do to alleviate the recent crisis. You’ve assembled a large array of kilns on the outskirts of the village and filled them up with fuel and clay bricks to roast but that would still take a long time. Almost half a day for the bricks to finish cooking. Essentially you will have to switch between making more bricks and building the wall for the entire time of the project. You estimate that you need around three to four weeks now to finish the walls entirely. Maybe it would be a good idea to prepare for the dwarf visit instead?>Dwarves can start their thing while you build the wall so it might end up a bit faster so let's visit them first>Wall is more important because else the villagers have only a single layer of palisade between them and the monster infested forest while you are away>Let’s hire villagers to build the wall slowly while you are away. You don’t expect them to get much done but it would kickstart some economy>You can make a few siege engines and equip militia before you leave so that the village would not be as poorly defended>Other? Maybe this can all wait and you would like to knock something off the project list first?
>>3266828Aaaand I am a derp. Most villagers are hangover so you started planning. I somehow missed that
>>3266828>You can make a few siege engines and equip militia before you leave so that the village would not be as poorly defendedPrepera a couple of siege things and then go for the dwarves, they start to set up at the ruins as we build the walls at the same time, maybe even get their help to do it, even if they don't help actually building it they have a vast knowledge in fortifications and can give us some new ideas for the wall.
>>3266828>>3266835good thinking, but inform the village chief so that they can put up a team to man them and guard the village while we are away
>>3266828>Dwarves can start their thing while you build the wall so it might end up a bit faster so let's visit them firstWe already left them for short periods of time and they have a militia now, there's no big threats around so I think they can manage.Let's grab or adventure equipment, invite our friends and see if we can find the dwarves, the Signy can come along too if she wants, a healer is always welcome.
>>3266841>>3266835I agree with preparing 1 or 2 quick siege engines before going.
>>3266847The military is currently equiped with like bronze spears left over from when you were fighting bandits, random pieces of personal equipment and leftover bandit stuff and a single small field ballista of ancient roman design you've made. You are not sure if you were lucky or if it is enough because village was straight up never attacked since the bandits. That gear up option will leave you with a list of stuff you can make to bolster the military from armor to weapons to field and counter siege weapons.
>>3266853I would like to just make more siege engines and maybe put an order to pelagia and her father to start pumping some weapons so they can get some money from us and get their experience using her new dwarven tools. The thibg is I want to get the gang and move out as soon as we can
>>3266828Oh crap, I forgot that I have a doctor today. I will have to leave for a couple hours now. Really sorry about that. Please feel free to pick and discuss the gear and machines you want to leave here. I’ll try to post choice categories from my phone on the way.
>>3266860Maybe scorpios or balistas, anti personal machines since I think catapults and trebuchets won't be very useful against monsters.Good luck at the doc qm.
>>3266860Alright, here are the options for militia gear. Pick what you want as it mostly costs your time.Armor:>Priority armor: an approach used in your time. Armor consists out of a helmet, knee and elbow protection and a single plate around the ribcage. Protects only vitals comparable to medium armor but that’s about it. High chance of non- lethal wounds. Best used with healers and antibiotics>Light armor: made out of layered cloth that provides padding while minimizing weight, encumbrance and cost. Surprisingly great at dealing with arrows and blunt trauma>Lamellar armor: an arrangement of interlocking metal scales and small plates. Offers more protection especially against cuts but requires more effort to manufacture>Laminar armor: armor assembled out of interconnected metal bands similar to ancient legionnaire equipment. Offers more protection but less flexibility and thus is mostly used for vital areas while the rest is made out of lamellar armor. Similar to what you use>Plate armor: heavy armor that utilizes a monolithic cuirass, helmet and limb protection. Provides amazing defense at the cost of being heavier and more expensive than all other optionsGear:>Armory: various battlefield grade and secondary melee weapon stockpile for Farsalos militia. Enough to arm every man and woman in case of emergency>Shields: large amount of kite shields to protect the soldiers. Best compromise between personal protection, weight and ability to be used in formations>Bows: large amount of longbows and arrows. Inaccurate in the hands of untrained civilians but produce high volume of fire>Crossbows: accurate and powerful but complicated to produce and slow to reload. Lack of steel manufacturing limits their power>Scorpios: small ballista operated by two people. We have one, let’s make a dozen for the future>Ballista: large projectile weapon designed to fling stones the size of a bowling ball or giant spears at the enemy hundreds of meters away. Operated by a crew of five and fixed on the wheelsCounter siege weapons: heavy indirect fire machines of war mounted on castle towers and designed to fire on enemy siege weapons. Superior in range and power but stationary and difficult to aim and reload. Due to the lack of walls and trained crew I think that it won’t be smart to choose these just yet. They include trebuchets, huge ballistas, stone throwers and indirect fire cannons
>>3266994>>Scorpios: small ballista operated by two people. We have one, let’s make a dozen for the future>Light armor: made out of layered cloth that provides padding while minimizing weight, encumbrance and cost. Surprisingly great at dealing with arrows and blunt trauma
>>3266994>>Scorpios: small ballista operated by two people. We have one, let’s make a dozen for the futurejust some of these, and place an order to palagia to start making armors with her dwarven tools, let's get on the road, the more we delay the more time the people will be with their tendons fucked
Rolled 1 (1d2)>>32670021Or>>32670032Rolling
>>3267003Pelagia and her father have essentially zero experience in armorsmithing and they are already busy fulfilling civilian equipment demand. Are you sure you want to redirect them to a task that they are likely to fail in?
>>3267022No then.Lets go with this>>3267002
>>3266994Alright, I'm back and writing. Sorry about that but I needed some paperwork for hospitalization and totally forgot that it was today.
>>3267098The village defenses are pretty limited without you. There is a single scorpio ballista, a couple hunting bows, a bunch of bronze spears and a set of low quality weapons left over from the bandits. You don’t feel that it is safe to leave these people and you were probably lucky that there even was a village to return to. Nothing really attacked them in the last four months even thought they live close to a tribe of slaver savages and giant wolves. However, you don’t have a lot of time to spare. You need to set up the dwarves first and then look into things like counter siege weapons and walls. The more you stall the longer former slaves would have to deal with cut tendons.Taking all of this into account you decided to start with some armor. You can’t afford to spend time forging anything complicated so you took a trip to Mirangi and got yourself a bunch of low-quality linen. This would do nicely to create a bunch of gambesons. Padded armor is surprisingly great against most of what medieval world could throw at its user. It requires razor sharp blades to get cut through in a single blow which is not feasible in most battles, they can block spears, resist arrows and they are amazing at protecting against blunt weapons like clubs. Definitely better than just having a shirt. You will make a gambeson and a padded helmet for every member of the village militia. Then you decided to assemble a dozen more scorpios. Now that the village militia consists out of more than five people you decided that they’ll need something capable of piercing the bigger monsters. Scorpios are comparable to your bow at close range and they should kill giant Wolves with one or two shots. In addition, the tower battlements are set up in a way that would allow crossbows and scorpios to fire from them. The towers can be individually sealed from the wall and the ground level making them into miniature fortresses. You hope that a combination of that and shelters should be enough if anything bad happens. In any case, the faster you return the faster you can start building the wall and the less chance for the village to get attacked by something. You decided that you will take the waterway to get from the destroyed dwarven city to their nearest settlement. You think that you saw a small ship that somehow survived the fire that engulfed the settlement when the forgotten beast attacked. You need to decide whom you want to take along with you.
>>3267255>Red shirts: a couple adventurous militia members offered to accompany you in this quest. They are armed with hunting bows, spears, shortswords, gambesons and basic bootamp worth of training.>Haven: she accompanied you last time so it is only appropriate. Her artifact crossbow might prove useful against anything stupid enough to attack you>Sigrid: Viking girl is itching to try out her new gear. She is a strong and skilled melee warrior with good protection thanks to her new armor and shield. Only you are a heavier “tank” than her>Signy: snow elf girl agreed that she can join you on this adventure. She is pretty useless in a fight but she can heal wounds with her powers>Other? >>3267299Just FYI, the red shirt is a joke because they are normal mortals, they don't have monster hunter skills or powers or anything really, just people. I don't intend to sacrifie them for cheap shock content.

>>3267363>>3267323>>3267299>>3267276Haven and Sig it is, writing
>>3267396If Signy is not coming at least stop by Claudina's shop and bring plenty of healing supplies just in case.
>>3267411Claudina does not sell any supplies that have medical properties useful for patching up people more rapidly than bandages. You do have some first aid in your backpack at all times for the sake of convenience.
>>3267396You decide to extend the invitation to Haven and Sigrid and both of them agree to accompany you in your quest. After refilling your supplies, the three of you started moving towards the dwarven city. The path is not that long or difficult as the savages seem to be too scared to pick a fight with you and the monsters you found in the Labyrinth are apparently absolutely useless against groups of people. These charcoal black psi- charged creatures have even less constitution than humans and it seems that if there are enough people to feel marginally safe their psi attack does little more than unnerve your companions. Sigrid and Haven just found themselves some target practice. However, you encountered these creatures for the third time. Maybe there are more common and there could be a hive somewhere. If you find it and clear it out it should be easier to reinforce this area for a trading path to the dwarves. The only remaining ship in the dwarven fortress is some kind of small rowing craft designed to be operated by a crew of five with four rowers and one person behind the rudder at the back. It looks like it was used mainly for small cargo. Sigrid and you are strong enough to row the boat by yourselves especially when it is empty so the three of you decide to use it.Clearing the blocked floodgates was a bit of a pain. It seems that lack of maintenance damaged the mechanism that used to move the huge doors and eventually you couldn’t easily repair it. You didn’t have enough time and materials to craft the steel gears and thus you disassembled the mechanism and pushed the lock doors to the sides with your power. Dwarves seem to understand gear transmission and some hydrodynamic engineering as the floodgate is of a distinct V shape when closed and they used several gears of different sizes to amplify the force in the mechanism. These were used throughout ancient world and the middle ages to be fair but you wonder if it was given to them, kept through the dark ages or reinvented by dwarven craftsmen.
>>3267607With the water now rushing in again you had to repeat the process on the other end so that the area won’t get flooded on accident and you are finally ready to go. The maps you saw show that you need to move upstream which is to the north-north-west from your location to the area roughly half way between Farsalos and Pronga which is a city in the Holy Nation territory. Dwarves use a network of several rivers that stretch from half way through Holy Nation to the polis of Temenia in Cenophilan territories. The river further upstream forks and leads through just below Farsalos and curves hard east past the polis of Semeriza and between Teryia(elven capital) and the eastern coast stopping about half way towards Mesi. There are only four or so points where dwarves managed to set up the surface access to their settlements in this country and three of them are situated around Teryia and Semeriza. The reason for this is probably ancient Teryian elves trading with the dwarves like they do now. That also means that this fortress lies in a vital path that essentially split the dwarven nation in two. While the water can still pass through sedimentary layers below and to the sides of the cave where the destroyed settlement lies it became impossible to ship materials through the area. The only way past is through the land path that has to be braved by armed caravans due to the attacks of local monsters and those big eared short savages that you call “goblins”. Fun note, “elves”, “nords” and “dwarves” also don’t call themselves like that. You are just playing association games to remember them because their self- names just don’t seem to catch up in your head. You do remember them but you can’t easily plug associations into them. For example, Teryian elves call themselves Eryar which sounds less like an elf and more like a name from Silmarillion which is not great since those sound indistinguishable from antidepressant medication brands. Now that you are loaded and ready, let’s start rowing. The current is not too high for it to get annoying so you should get there with little trouble…>Roll 1d20 for events. It is finally time!

Rolled 15 (1d20)>>3267616What can go wrong .... ?
>>3267759Well, no 1, so that's a relief
>>3267775The underground river is a fascinating formation. It flows through what seems to be a massive lava tube. The part you saw going past the fortress is minuscule, the river itself is just huge. The lava tube is six kilometers wide and the river is about twenty-six meters deep. It is not too amazing for rivers, Volga is 40 kilometers wide at the thickest point, but it is unheard of underground on that scale. The tube has cracks, cave-ins and sometimes branching lava tube paths into the labyrinth so that is probably where the danger comes from.Nothing really happens for most of the trip and after some time you get tired of just rowing with your hands so you help the boat out with some telekinesis. However, it seems that your friends are not handling the trip very well. The issue is that Labyrinth is dark. Incredibly dark. There are few things that produce light. You don’t really care since you can see far in almost no light conditions and you have things like radar and thermal vision but your friends only see a choking and all- encompassing darkness that engulfs the boat with the tiny exception of a flickering torch and Haven’s trinket in combination with almost no noise from the outside. It feels like there is nothing but you, the boat, the water and the deaf and empty void beyond.Once you were moving past one of the small pipes a dark and almost completely silent object jumped out of it and rapidly flew in the direction of the boat. You barely noticed it at the last second and whacked it out of the way as it almost impacted into Haven’s face startling her. The creature is… you are not sure how to describe it… it is like a crab of sorts minus the pincers and with six thick and strong legs. It has a strong carapace and a small cluster of fangs on the bottom of its body. It almost seems as if it was designed to hunt like a projectile leaping and latching on to its prey and attaching to it with its maw to feed itself. Its size and speed would allow it to drive the spike half way through a human skull instantly killing them which was very dangerous. And it is too dark to see anything. Your radar detects hundreds of holes of similar size on all sides all the time so you don’t know what to expect…And this is when the boat rocks. It was hit by something large and it felt too soft to be a rock. The impact knocked the torch off the nose of the boat and into the water leaving Haven’s amulet as the only source of light. The boat was also splashed so you can’t just grab a replacement as it won’t light up easily. As most of the light disappeared you started detecting movement around one of the walls and some parts of the ceiling. A lot of movement. Fuck…>Roll 1d20 and give your ideas. You now the drill
Rolled 18 (1d20)>>3267871Form arounh haven for light, do that rock reacts to psi energi? Can we make it brighter? For in a circle while Sigrid and us protect Haven in the middle who will be using ranged weapons, and we keep anything we can away.Use that projectile defense bubble we researched to defend the group against the jumping things.Do we have any way to produce more light?
>>3267881We don't yet have a concept of psychic energy, we mostly use telekinesis so we don't know how to make it glow brighter. It seems to glow more when Haven is "praying" with the glowing quartz in her hands. All of our torches are fucked so we can't actually get more light immediately until we dry them out. The lack of light prevents Haven from firing at these creatures and Sig would have to mostly operate a shield and maybe whack stuff that gets into the boat with an axe. Using projectile defense is possible and it should be enought to protect the boat from these crabs. Please note that we bumped something...
Rolled 15 (1d20)>>3267871Describe for the girls where they are coming from and stick close, use our powers if things get rough and protect both if something bad happens (like we rolling a 1)Can we generate heat with the TK? Maybe light one of the smaller monsters on fire to help with the vision problem>>3267904Hmmm, the bump is it under or in front of the ship?Start firing our bow at the thing we bumped if its in front, move the ship away from in with our powers so it doesn't destroy the ship, whatever it may be.
>>3267925The bump was actually to the front- right side. It was probably moving at the boat as you were swimming forward
>>3267881>>3267925Writing and that would be the last post for the day. It is officially midnight here
>>3267960Thanks for running hive.
>>3267967The situation could be better, but you are not the one to give up easily. As the creatures start raining from the ceiling you use your point defense protection to throw them off course and into the water. They seem to not know how to swim for some reason and they just sink to the bottom and walk on the river floor so you don’t even have to crash them completely. The main issue with them is that how many of them are there. You have to deflect the numbers of watermelon- sized headcrabs in the low hundreds and it is quite attention draining. You feel like there is a joke you can make but you think it is a bad taste to talk about HL3 being over two thousand years in the making. The creature you bumped into turned out to be a huge water serpent almost 150 meters long. It has multiple scars that correspond with the size of crab fangs so you think that they like to prey on it. The creature was still thinner than the snake you fought a while ago and as it tried to wrap around the boat Sigrid chopped its tail off. This caused the creature to rapidly retreat into the water coloring the area around the boat in crimson red as it bled out. Snakes have actual organs in their bodies and your Viking friend chopped a bit too high up so the animal will probably die within an hour at most.As Haven could not see the enemies, she tried to do the only real thing she could- she started praying. The light of her amulet was sufficient to halt the downpour of the tiny monsters so you could recoup and light all the torches you had. They were wet but they still managed to light up after a lot of attempts. These crab creatures seem to fear the light so as you lit up more and more of the torches, they stopped trying to eat your brains which is nice.
>>3268123It was a strange encounter, from one hand you played an important role but you weren’t the one who killed stuff and the two of your teammates actually did something. With the bandits, giants, monsters, insane goddesses and forgotten beasts you had to do the job yourself. Your companions were either unconscious, scared out of their minds or incapable of actually damaging the enemy. This is the first time you can legit tell your friends a “thank you” for their assistance. So, this is what teamwork feels like, it was kind of nice. As you finished with the monsters and continued on your way you finally saw the light at the end of the river. You have finally arrived somewhere. You can’t wait to get out of this horrible pit and into the light. Full steam ahead!_________________________And that’s it for today’s thread. Thank you for participating and I’ll hopefully see you next week. Feel free to ask questions, propose projects or discuss the quest. Here is something I want to hear your opinions on: what symbols would you like to represent Agatha, her people and/or the village of Farsalos. She has a shield but she has nothing on it, just a polished surface and there has to be something to put on gambesons of village military. Think colors, concepts and heraldry.
>>3268130have a nice week and see you next saturday
>>3268130That was awesome, love to see the girls doing stuff and helping us out. Thanks again for running and I'll think of something to put as symbol during the week.>hl3 still not outLol
>>3268198Tbf they were just about to announce the Start of development when society collapsed
>>3268130Thanks for running, sorry for any stupid shit I may have said kek, have a nice week and see you next one
ok, I've got some symbols and I'll post it here, don't know if you guys will like it but let's seethe first one is simpler, it resembles a shield, we are usually seen protecting people and saving them from danger, as well as adventuring around and giving shelter to all those who need so I though it fits
the next one keeps the shield theme but it's a little more elaborated, there's also the sword and a bloody hand, representing our battles and our drive for adventure and exploration
the last one is a bit different, it's a tree with it's roots, we are building something here, making these people grow and prosper while also sheltering them from danger like a tree casting shade for those who seek it.well, those are just some ideas I came up with while searching for things on google, if you guys have other ideas please post them since I'm not even sure about mine
>>3282699Nice. I will let you guys choose and vote for what you’d like since all my propositions are a bit boring. Like a gear or an atom(because science and engineering) or a hammer(because we work hard) or something completely uninspired like a letter A or an owl. Latter would cause issues because Elspeth claimed that one for obvious reasons.
ok, I've found some banners, take a look.continuing on the tree theme I have these other options
then, there is this one that represents our persuit for knowledge, but I think that there are other gods that overlap on that
and finally, one more just because I love ravens
>>3283777now I'll samelessly try to fabricate an argument for the adoption of the raven lolit is a pack animal but at the same time individualistic and one that persues its own objectivesit's smart and inventive, coming up with different solutions for its problemsit's a curious bird that can be seen as a tester, adventurer or inventorlol I got nothing else
