In the Elklands, they have a saying. From savage Urik, to dignified Rarega, this phrase is shared. In Newborn Tolia and aged Karskia these words hold the same value and meaning. Words of warning and caution, a reminder of the horrors that cast their great shadows across the skies. Often repeated to tell another "this is a bad deal" "Don't trust him" and similar warnings.

"A dragon cannot be born without death!"

Old words, wise words. they come from an old weaver's tale, that dragons cannot come into the world without sorrow and pain to proceed them. That to be born, another being must die. And, though many legends are just that. this one rings with a tune of truth.

For long before the beast known as man forged the first kingdom, Rarega with shed blood, the Dragons sought to overthrow the gods of the world and were for dreadfully cursed for their pride and hubris to never again be gifted a soul by Life-weaver (Nor her successor, Soul-spinner) to be, as a race, dammed to the harvests of Death-writer (And later the hunt of his twin Successors, Last-friend and Final-Hunter) alone. But, such was there ageless pride, that instead of taking the lesson the gods had meant to them and retreating to quiet lives of introspection or selflessness, they broke a great taboo. And so they still live today, born as dragons, the great tyrants of the skies and all that toil beneath them. instead of the formless, soulless things the gods had saw fit to give them as children before they found the cracks in their curse.

And no man knows this truth, but all know the words that tell it.

"A dragon cannot be born without death"

For how else would souless things gain a soul? For the souls of the dead are all gathered up by the twin gods of death to be led to their twin cousins of life to pamper and weave new forms for. Souls cannot be created from nothing, lest for the handiwork of the gods. So what other way to find a soul for your child, but taking it from the children of men? stealing the very gift of the gods themselves out of pure envy, pride and greed.

For a dragon to be born, their mother must take them from their old life and body, to be born again as a greater being. and this, is where the story starts, with the thunder crack of wings
-

Shining like the brightest of gems and wildest of dreams, an expecting yet panicked mother soars through the kingdom of the goddess Wind-keeper. Far above ground and in the clouded fields of blue she searches and seeks.

"Did I not advise finding a suitable candidate BEFORE, Mating season?!" Her mortal servant whispered in her ear, clinging on mane and horn as his mistress flew through the sky as swiftly as a bolt of light, the wind cutting and howling at this intruder to its master's domain, trying to rip him from his own lord "excuse me for my impudence, but we are treading the path of"

"SILENCE! I AM WELL AWARE" the Dragoness roared with a voice like a storm given life "DO NOT REMIND ME OF MY MINDLESS, FOOLISH INDULGING. I KNOW OF MY MISTAKE! AND NAGGING AFTER ALL, is not one of your duties beneath me, so be quiet, and let me find my child before...before"

The mortal man remained silent, whimpering before he cried out, desperate to be heard over the raging winds around him "Yes of course my lady, I am just worried about you and your child, I meant no offense but...where will we be going this season?"

The dragoness paid no attention to the tiny and aging life cling near her neck as she flew through the sky as quick as a bolt of light. she'd need to rest soon, roost. it was bad enough she had not chosen a permanent territory yet, but it was worse that she had been so...careless these last years in her indulgences. She could hear her peers whispering about her foolishness already, she could not risk making a reputation for such things. And though she would never admit it, deep within her long blackened heart, a mother wailed and cried, pleading an uncaring world to save her unborn child. The wailing tore at the dragons core, and she made her choice in the maelstrom of her mind as her wings cracked like thunder, making every form & manner of wealth she held in her claws shift and clink against itself.

Where, where to roost? where...where am I going to find my baby? Where...where>

(Choose your ethnicity/ nationality when you were human, changing your choice in who you'll be playing and where you'll spend your second childhood)
Where will she rest and live for a spell?
[] Emberlayn, yes yes. Perfect, the kingdom of knights and dragon worshipers will allow her quite a bit of comfort, and there must be a soul that can make her a worthy child...or an obedient one at least
[] Rarega, An old and cultured land, she could indulge in many things here...and the "nobles" of this land are too busy bickering to notice a dragon to hunt. besides, such a glittering land must have a soul as brilliant as her own hiding with in
[] Urik. A hard land, a cold land. Filled with beasts who'd be so foolish as to challenge dragons. Savage...but perhaps a warrior born here will be her child?
[] Karskia. Swampy and musty, filled with musty scholar filled towers. At the very least she can steal away a replacement for her aging retainer if not find a soul to be her heir
[] Tolia...what is she thinking! this land is younger than her servant! her peers will look down on her child but...the first to be born from a soul here may find great renown. and more importantly she'll be away from the prying, insulting eyes of her peers for awhile.
[] an island in the elkth sea. Hide away in her shame, take awhile and disappear but...perhaps luck favors those off the beaten path (Play as one who comes from outside of the elklands)

it felt like a growing pressure, a screaming madness of instinct and primal fears she shouldn't have known as such a regal and high existence as herself. She was supposed to be a dragon after all, a thing of fire and death! and yet, she felt panicked, even afraid but not just for herself though that would be shameful on its own. She was afraid for her unborn, souless child, a being that had no existence until she found one to give to it by right of conquest and power. and she feared for it, it drove her noble mind near to madness in desperation. this once unknown emotion quickened the dragoness' flight, her blood flowing as quick as wild fires. This wasn't supposed to happen, it wasn't. and now...now nothing made sense, all became confusion. With a defiant roar, a gout of flame burned the sky and clouds, and it was followed by more.

twisting down the dragoness flew, cracking air with fire and with the clap of her wings, her mind clearning as her forbidden emotions turned to rage and the mother in her heart sung with the drunk that stood beside her. She needed...to calm down, to rest. she deserved it. Out of every creature in the world, she deserved some relaxation some comfort.

Sure it'd be easier to find a mortal who'd easily come along to their new life in say, that nation of servants and worshipers, but that would not be fitting for her child. She was the Sun chaser, the glowing terror of day, the Amethyst blaze, the wandering lady! THE QUEEN OF BRIEF PASSIONS! of course she wouldn't take the scraps, those who bowed their heads to her peers! A SERVANT WOULD NOT BE HER CHILD!

But....what was left then? the only other nobles in these lands had...poor breeding in her own regard. That new nation, worthless, those savages pah beneath even dirt, those scholars? NO! she would not dwell in a swamp!! so, in her tired flight, that left on option, her once home and usual haunt.

"Rarega" She sighed with all the force of a dying wind, her retainer pulling weakly at her glorious mane "At least there, I'll have comforts worthy of my name"

"R...rarega, are you certain? the...the others will surely know if" the fading light on her mane tried to protest, so she responded by twisting her body and twirling in flight to silence him with fear, a fang filled smirk passing on her lips as she past over the tail of a mountain.

In the distance, cities of white stone, black marble and shining silver and gold glinted like earth bound stars, fields of farmland, old forests and great forgotten battle grounds. Already the smell of spices clouded her senses and the noise of music her heart.

She couldn't come too close to one of the great cities, lest its master call its men to arms against her, even one of the smaller ones could become a threat if they wed themselves to a great bloodline. So... leisure would have to wait, shamefully.

And, though her pride would never admit it, her unborn was weakening her, draining her blood and power, demanding she find a den to settle in. And what better den for a wandering blaze as herself, then a place of history. Rarega was filled with such places, but she knew of an old fort, devoured by the Wild-heirs forests ages past, by a great clear and cold lake, near enough to a city to lord over or plunder, far enough from any steel to cut her, fat with farmers and their beasts. Yes, she was settling, but at least it'd be a place to rest....to rest...

"MY LADY!" A voice called, as the dragoness fell asleep mid-flight, and plummeted to her "bed"

It was a little...strange you had to admit. An entire life of training, drilling and diligent work to step outside of the shadows of your siblings born before you, your elders blessed with promises of inheritance, wealth and an easy life. It was strange, staring up at that lonely grey sky, you thought, that the youngest had to toil to get anything besides a roof over their head and food and wine in their belly. Was it fair for your name to be forgotten as just an extra vein in the family bloodline, unwanted and unneeded? To have a life, you had to fight? it didn't make sense. it was just so strange. Your mind began to uncloud now, as the cold water swept over you, dying itself with the blood that could've been noble, all your aspirations, dreams and joys being carried with it as tears began to fall on your pale cheeks. Or was it rain? Nothing seemed certain, besides the gaping hole in your side and the spear head that had made it, or the weight of your breastplate, slowly crushing your life
beneath it. Why were you here? you've could've been warm at home, instead of cold and fading. Shuddering you tried to drag yourself out of the mud, but your stomach cried out in pain, and your hands wouldn't even ball up into fists from the haze of weariness that had swallowed up your body.

Death, so this is what it felt like? cold, painful, dull and a crushing sense of confusion and loneliness. Death....before life? struggle, for nothing. Could've been a poem, you thought. but, none would hear it.

A cry echoed in the night, Last-hunter must've found the scent of this battle, and now that mistress of violent ends was coming for her prey....it wasn't supposed to be like this, your eyes fall on the stream stained and mixed with your blood and that of your foes. You were supposed to have an easy life after this, rest, something to show for it all but...but instead

"I've died for wine" You couldn't help but laugh as you laid your head back on the cold ground, pretending it to be a warm bed "and I didn't even get to see the vineyard we fought for, hah, this...is so strange"

I'm thinking in a good hearted fellow that did what he could to secure a good life, nothing too ambitious as he said, died for wine.
Trained hard, drilled all he could and expected to earn enough to go back home, died while pushing his friend aside, in his head acts of heroism did not end the way this one did.

"Why would they put such a force behind a simple stream?" You ask the already souless corpse next to yourself, patting your dusky hand on the poor fellows chest as you try and figure out which decision ended up with you dying on your back, half sunk into a stream not even important enough for a name or to be mentioned on local maps "its doesn't make any sense, they were under a hill down here, and yet there were scores of them. it'd be logical if they were retreating but....but why?"

Groaning, the broken spear head digging deeper into your split open guts as what strength is left in your quickly fading life is used to sit yourself up and look upon the carnage you led the men you were trusted with into. A trust you had not deserved, they thought because you were a bastard. "Why" You ask again, leaning on you hand that isn't caught in mud, pushing your dead comrade deeper in the greyish red mud beneath you.

"Why were they here? we should've been able to escape the noose to harrass their flank, opening a path but....why were so many so far from the main engagement? they couldn't have been here to attack our open flanks as we had none, being so surrounded and packed together so" You question, struggling to stare at your opposite across the stream, you blue cloak clinging to your dull grey armor "for what tactical purpose would you lead scores of men through a stream to a location you would die crossing if, we were outnumbered and this position you chose simply led to mutual destruction"

You couldn't help but laugh sadly, such a waste of life, and your talents, but at least you managed to snuff out a general who had no place leading.

"Oh why am i asking, I know your breeding got you that coat" You snort, turning your nose up as you try and remove your shattered helmet to feel the mornings fresh and cold air on your face one last time before you pass into the night. and fall back into your mud for your efforts, wheezing and coughing as your movements have sent the spear head deep into your belly, no doubt rending your intestines in a way no healer or medicine peddler would ever be able to mend.

"Such a pointless waste of life" You manage to speak, a whimper of pain and sorrow as you stare at the bodies of the others around you, the pale winemaker, the golden haired boy built like an ox, the short legionnaire with their red hair "All because of an argument between brothers, such a waste of my talent and wit, and their gifts, all pissed away into a stream....no I shouldn't forget the blame is on myself for not foreseeing any of this. But...it still is so strange? a brilliant man such as myself, wasted on such a pointless fight. all of this is so strange? why waste life on wine? why was I allowed to live past the men I doomed in my haste, if but to suffer for it...haaaa...so strange. if only I had a page to write down this sensation of death...if only"

A heavy sigh escapes your lips as you slide deeper into the mud and can't help but whimper from the pain, both physical and emotional. What a waste....what a waste.

And then there's a splash, making you turn your heavy eyes up at the source of the sound, struggling to open them as it seems the weight of a mountain has fallen upon them.

Theres...there's a man wearing neither of the noble's colors walking across the stream, now that is strange, what in the titan's hell is he doing here in this place of death? it doesn't matter surely but, its strange as he is clearly not one of the gods of death so that means life is still clinging to this heart. So why is he here? And what is he wearing? a traveling robe? but its a dark purple color, a very expansive shade to be worn for such a thing. You can see his bear and thin white hair blowing in the wind as he walks, with a silver scepter in one hand with an odd topper, poking and prodding the bodies of your fellow legionaries! what disrespect and...is he wearing a mask? You can't quite make it out as there's a morning fog rolling in and you're vision is fading

But besides that, this man's sheer callous disregard for the honored dead has managed to spark a new life in you, the building rage at this indignity brought down upon your honored comrades and last foes is inexcusable, especially by what must be a man of wealth on a morning walk judging from his choice of dress. Its insulting! it is wrong! it is henious in your eyes especially! this was a wasteful, useless clash in a similarly pointless conflict and now he thinks he has the right to poke and prod the dead like some concubine or a odd piece of fruit on a dinner plate. Why its enraging! its infuriating and so many other words that just can't describe the rage you're feeling now. these men deserve respect! and even of you're dying you have decided you have a duty to protect their honor and ensure they get a proper burial at least if you survive to see the corpse carts, and yet he has come to play with their bodies and insult their memory! their death!

"You" You manage to call out, finding your breath as you try to push yourself up one last time, the old man jumping out of the stream in shock at seeing another living soul among so many of the dead "What right do you have to disrespect the dead so...so casually? Who are you to annoy and pester the dying like they're flowers in your garden, what sick pride drives you to this cruelty!"

You realize the man had fallen on the stream in shock the second you finish your condemning speech at him, and had been half shouting at an old man now is soaked robes. Which makes you feel a little embarrassed when looking at it from that particular angle. He pauses as you realize he is wearing a mask, perhaps a wolf or something reptilian, and you stare at each other for a moment as you try and glare at him through the pain.

"the general still lives? like a story's end, the folly of man" he says in a flippantly sing song manner, leaning on his silver scepter to stand "And has enough life to insult and belittle his better in doing his divine duty for his mistress, though I mean no rudeness, I must say I am shocked and appalled at your state! in fact I must say I am....impressed in some regard, please, keep speaking I need to find one who is worthy yes...yes"

HOWEVER! Madness doesn't not give an excuse to such a callous nature! in fact if anything all it does is worsen the wounds such a demeanor causes as easily as other men would breath. Gritting your teeth as tasting mud as you will yourself to hang onto life if but for a few more seconds to tell this despicable old man his wrongs and have at least some satisfaction to carry you into death's embracing jaws. Pressing against your seeping wound, feeling the grit of gravel inside it, you try to stand and settle for merely leaning forward as the cold lump of metal sinking into your guts stabs into some deep part of yourself, making your snarl of distaste turn into an inhuman growl of pain.

"Willful, wrathful, well spoken for a common man of war, truly a peculiar and rare find among the rabble" the man says, pointing his scepter towards you "please, awash me with your fury and spite, bleed your emotions toward my open ears, I am used to such abuses. So please, show me the worth within your heart"

"I HAVE NO PURPOSE IN SPEAKING TO YOU, MOON BORN!" You bark at him, trying to find the confidence you used to command the men around you to death "You ramble about worthiness? Worthy of what! Can't you see beyond that mask"

for emphasis and against you better judgment, you dig your hand, and the soiled glove covering it into your wound, flashes of stabbing and burning pain filling your mind as the hooded, masked man simply tilts his head, framed by the grey sky as the wind runs her hand through his hair and beard

"I am dead! can't you see!" You roar with a dry, harsh voice, losing your breath and falling forward as pain brings you low again, your fury turning to sorrow as you wail the rest of your words as they flow to your mind, looking up at the source of your dying rage and final annoyance "This cut in my gut will not let me see the sunset, and feel its keepers kind hand upon my face one more time! SO WHY DON'T YOU MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL AND INSTEAD OF PRODDING AND DISRESPECTING THE DEAD FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN STILL BE HELPED AND WARDED AGAINST FINAL-HUNTERS JAWS!"

He simply stands there, raising a white gloved hand....made of a snakeskin, to brush his hair out of his' masks eyes and then you can see his own eyes, a venomous green that stand out against the colors of the world fading around you.

"Oh" He says, prodding the ground in front of you with the gemmed end of his scepter....cat's eyes, you think. usually used for divination if you remember right "So you would refuse and offer to live, so another may? but there is pride in that selflessness, to order a living man as you lie dying"

He brings the end of his scepter to your chin, mud dripping upon the sash tied under your broken helmet, as you become aware of the metal from it biting into your cheeks.

"The.Height. of. Hubris" he says slowly, tauntingly as you only glare up at him, before he slowly turns from you and sighs "Oh it would seem you are what I am searching for, but"

"Oh will you make it to the ceremony" He worries, fidgeting his palm over the scepter's top, crouching towards you "You've mixed the twin gods of death's name, reason leaves you and yet you still strive to pay the debt you've seen yourself make, to give another a chance despite the brilliance I see in your eyes, and the general's coat upon your back. You rage against ME! the one other thing you can tell is alive in front of you, and seek to command ME! to save others, which I think is commendable in such a prideful way. Wrath, pride. horrible sins yet you muddle them with such selfless kindness and worry"

"Have you no humanity? HELP THEM" You command "See reality and"

"Oh yes, yes you're worthy" he says ignoring you completely "but...do you the resolve to handle it...hm...hm. the ceremony does at times require a last request and you have given yours so!"

He brings his scepter to his chest like a dueling sword and points it toward your heart

"Choose, the one who shall gain the same blessing, the same privilege. And doom the rest to die" he says pressing the top against you "And I shall do more than save them"

What is he even saying? confused you move to brush his scepter off of you and...and you don't know what you'll do next, for once in your life. You have no idea of your next action

You grab at his scepter, and he lets go of it like the man who gave you your first short blade in training, trying to add pomp and circumstance to seemingly devoting your final moments to annoyance and confused ramblings. And the moment he relinquishes the small silver scepter into your hand, you swing it around. And surprisingly he does not jolt or even move when it comes close to his head, he simply shifts it to the other side as his curious eyes watch you with near reverent fascination. Craning his head up, he chuckles as he sees your act of defiance and the insult towards him, having use the arc of your swing to motion to the rest of the battlefield that was made over a fight of a few bottles of wine and the soil that grew them.

"Oh...oh" he chuckles, shaking his head slightly "such defiance, such stubbornness. I must say I will be quite happy serving you, and I also must thank you, for giving me an excuse to...for once, show kindness and mercy to my fellow man, no please, understand, that the pain you will feel is temporary"

"I am already in.." You begin to say as he suddenly presses his hand to your throat, three fingers stealing your breath as he nods

"Sleep, and awaken to your reward" He says lovingly as he cradles your falling face with his suddenly bare hand, somehow having managed to pull his glove off in between his quick, jittery motions "And if we are lucky, perhaps siblings, a rarity among..."
and the world becomes a mash of colors and stabbing pains of all kinds

You'd think you'd have died, though you realize there are many stories of men dreaming of the day to come to avoid some great tragedy or to cause it in trying to avoid the webs and veins of fate. But you don't believe such a thing is possible, dreams are never realistic or logical enough to see a pattern in anyways. So of course that had to be reality, only reality could be so cruel to so many after all. The fact that I am able to think so clearly shows that I've awakened alive rather than dead, in fact that I am shows that, you think as you try to sit up and find that your body remains still. You know you have many regrets, but not enough to be buried in your own flesh, so you try again, to force your body to move in any direction. And despite the Urikish like effort and struggle you're forcing upon yourself, feeling the fight against the cage of your body has become. And the darkness fills with dim light, as you will one of your eyes open enough to be able to look at the state of yourself, and with it, returns your extremely dulled senses. as Calm as you always are when curious, you do not panic when you find yourself laid out upon a table of stone like a roast pig. Nor do you feel shame at seeing your own nude body, covered in odd salves and cuts, runes you think. the kind used to lure magic from the veins, but you can't be sure as you did not study such things in any detail. Tactics and war had your interest much more after all. After seeing your bare, ruined body covered in oddly colored medicines or whatever the salve is, you realize you're laying in a small bool of liquid silver...mercury you think its called. it stings your wounds even through the haze your mind is in...drugged you assume, considering the odd taste on your tongue and the thick liquid dribbling down your lips to your chin. You're vaguely aware of some kind of heat hanging in the air, making it humid despite the winter the land is currently locked in. As you wake up more, you see there are sticks of crushed herbs burning in bowls set to each on of your major organs, set along the edge of the massive stone table you've been set upon. You don't know why they're there? you certainly had not been upon the corpse field long enough to inhale rotten air, so they can't be to treat that. A blazing light passes you, the hooded figure of the old man walking past you with a glinting something in your hand. He gazes at you and nods, setting a bundle of your cape and broken helmet by your feet as he lights them with the small metal poker in his hand, glowing red with heat. The burning spreads from your feet to your legs as the small fire consumes your ruined belongings greedily. Then he moves to your side.

"of the living, and the....chosen dead, you are the most wounded" the man says as he grabs your face gently and turns it to himself "only kept alive by grief and indignation. I'll have to work fast to prepare you flight from this vessel into the proper one"

Why does he sound so joyous all of a sudden.

"Yes yes, it seems my...your mother has seen fit to accept my choice in you, though I had to convince her through argument and....sacrifice" He says, to himself you imagine. As you mother was a scullery maid from Karskia you believe, and have many doubts that he'd even know her. So you let him ramble, as you can't really interrupt the mad man in your current state "But that matters not! for now I shall spend my waning years serving not one master, not even two! but a clutch!"

You manage to move your lips as one thought runs through you drugged mind. What in the titan's hell are you babbling about now

"Oh, awake are we?" he asks nodding happily as he begins to hum to himself, raising the glinting thing up to the air "Impressive, and unfortunate, as you'll be aware enough to feel the...prepping of your soul. If you can, do try not to trash about, now where was I, ah yes, I need to muddle the uh...life leeching salves with the angels blood, your blood, the soon to be mothers blood and...hmm"

You aren't exactly sure, but you're confident that even if these injuries and whatever he's going to do with that barbed knife of his, that mixing mecury into your blood with strange salves would kill you

"Sorry, I have never preformed the rite of soul transferal before' He says giddly as he steadies his hand, the burning of your belongings and herbs casting a dim light over his masked face "So please, hold still, so I can properly carve the runes and preserve that mind and spirit of yours for new birth. it shall take awhile, but be thankful oh dark one, you are the first to be given the honor and it will be but brief torment compared to my slaving work through the night"

"Nnnnrr" you manage to groan as the cold steel of the knife parts and begins to scrape away your flesh

"this is the easiest method, trust me, the pain is nothing compared to the alternatives you could face, being mauled and torn to shreds, swallowed alive, burnt on a pyre, melted in an alchemical elixr" He says, repeating horror after horror as your mind is thankfully too focused on the blinding pain to imagine them as he describes them "For examples or say, being slowly tortured to destroy your sense of self before any of those terrible ends, or my most feared method, being used to cultivate a fruit holding your own soul, Yes"

He flicks the blade and sets aside the piece of flesh he's carved from your bare chest to the side slowly as he dips the edge back between skin and fat.

"Yes, you should be thankful this is all the pain you must go through" He sighed slowly as he knicked a bone, and pain shot through your spine "my apologizes, young master"

If I could move, I'd bite out your through like an urikish screamer you utter cad! Your mind screams as tears flow down your cheek as he begins to flay another rune down your legs stomach, dipping his blade slowly and raising it to cut a strange symbol.

"yes, hopefully the others will be able to survive this small torment, as I am sure you will be able to considering your strong will" he says softly, patting your cheek reassuringly, his beard passing through the smoke as he moves back to his work, with a movement like a puppet being suddenly pulled on his strings "but the others, I am not sure. Surviving is after all just as attributed to the wounds given, the age and health of ones body as it is to the strength of ones spirit"

You think you can speak again, and have noticed that one rune ones from your through down to your back

Well how many people have the luxury of an unwilling audience? Might as well try out all the bad jokes
>>
"A...are any others alive still" You manage to groan a dry question through your teeth as he digs deep into your stomach as the mercury beneath you seems to take on a glow of its own

"I am surprised you can still speak as your soul is being dragged from its home" He says calmly, not even looking up from his work as his hands begin to explore and prod through your innards, either searching for something or more likely some demented curiosity "But the answer is for now, they are all wounded and weak, and some will not live through my tender care or be too willful to take to it. Or maybe not, maybe all will find the path to the end my mistress seeks, I do not know. I am merely a servant and"

He holds a clump of wet flesh in front of your face as he turns for something, and then drops it with a jolt and nervous laugh, "Sorry, forgot I was holding onto that, but as I said, yes. some did survive due to being brought proper care and being carried to these warm ruins...of course I shall only speak of the ones here, a merest handful, but many for what I am doing now"

"Sh...shut up please" You moan as he moves his knife slowly to your throat and dips the barb into you neck "please, I've always hated healers who talk to much, a simple yes would've been enough"

"Well I am no healer, I am a mere servant and before that a scholar of sorts, so I do not feel the need to listen to that and as my mistress is asleep I've gotten no one to talk at" he says in a rapid manner as he takes your ability to speak with a flick of his wrist. You feel your hot blood flow over your neck as he quickly begins to carve a path from the cut her made, connecting it along to all the other runes he's made deep into your flesh.

Now, you're dying. you hope at least, as any more of this will be pure torture and simple pain. But judging from the fading pains and the growing cold, you're right now, that your end is met in some strange mad man's ritual. but you don't pass, merely feel yourself drawn from your body as the disfigurement of your body continues, until you feel none of it and are simply watching him pull parts of you out and into the mercury pool you've been lain in.

"Don't worry, what you're feeling is death denied, I am told" he continues rambling as he begins tracing mercury over your ruined body, using the red hot poker as a brush "your body cannot continue to live, but your soul has been kept intact in the living, liquid metal. Which my master shall drink and place within the chosen egg, a process that shall be repeated with the others, if she so chooses to honor them. But she has give her word, so I must hope she'll keep her promise....Now, I would suggest you sleep, oh trapped soul, oh selfless general. for you shall awake into a dream that shall last seasons, before your new beginning"

And with that, whatever kept you aware and awake for so long, through such torments and pain and annoyance snaps like a long frayed rope. And you pass into dreams, feeling trapped yet free, dead yet newly alive

Glad to be back HM! I love the idea for this quest! As for dragon ideas, I prefer the typical European depiction (Two arms and two legs with a quadrupedal posture, two massive wings, a spear shaped tail tip, and a majestic crown of horns), and preferably with red scales (to represent blood, or wine as it were) edged in silver (to represent steel and war). I thought that might represent his life and his death well enough, something of the mortal life to carry past his ascension

Chapter 1 begin: Childhood's dawn
-
Strange, how strange it is to wear armor, you think, when it only prolongs a suffering day. Its strange, you figure to bind yourself so willingly to the earth when one can soar through the sky and view all the red blooming fields beneath you, men willingly cutting open their wrists to feed the bubbling streams of tears that flow oh so freely through the fields and hillocks to empty out into great barrels of drink for the greedy eyed pigs dressed like men to quaff and guzzle like a common man drinks watered down wine. The sky, the sky. yes you can see it clearly now like a great dusk colored gem tilted in the hands of observing, formless gossiping gods. Your flight through the currents of wind fall as the streams suddenly harden into stone and the blossoming world becomes a simply drawn map carved unto a red stone face, all men turned to mere chess pieces as hands of gold and silver move their bronze soldiers along red worn paths. Your voice falls as silent as you plummeting fall, as you become a chess piece again, moving on strings drawn from your own veins to some unseen puppet master. the way they lead you is away from the proper path, towards a great cackling wolf with many such puppets as your self hanging lifeless from her mighty, red paint slathered jaws. Last-Hunter laughs at the feast being led to her, a play for noble borns to pet upon, the toy soldiers moved in nonsense ways before they clash and fall to pieces...pieces, how strange! you remember having more of yourself this morning and yet you're missing parts of the puzzle? the pieces you have don't quite fit your body, and you've been left incomplete. Incomplete, is that what your life is? a puzzle left unfinished by uncaring parents, teachers, generals and lords? or did they take parts of you to impart and forge your own knowledge? The wolf has left you, the battlefield has vanished but not the puppets, you see them now, as flesh sewn to metal and wood, all shattered and splintered, fallen like a pile of harvest season's leaves, the sky is no longer a gem, but a bottomless cup of overfilled wine rippling as is filled from the accusing and staring corpses laid all around in front of you like so many flowers, picked and torn then tossed aside by a maiden's gentle hand. But as you think to beg for forgiveness and draw up a plan to find forgivness, you realize they have passed and melted to a great bottomless sea of blackening blood, an unmoving stagnant and dead thing that begins to pulse and move unwholesomely. A formless mouth forms in front of you and begins to drink in itself and on the currents it makes draw you closer to it as it begins to shape itself and then redraw its design, there is no reason to try and swim away, how could you when you've melted into this wasteful slurry. staring at the yawning abyss of life that lays beyond its throat, you realize the light has color.

Iron, cold iron, is the master of them all.
>>
>>3246159
it is silver, tinged blue and red and so many other nameless colors. Like fracturing glass the color spreads and seeps throughout the void of wasted blood, unborn dreams and crying grief. The glowing roots spread deep into the sea, turning it once more to fertile earth with endless possibilities and opportunities within, great cliffs and hills forming, creating choke points and defendable locations as nature born fortress begin to construct themselves and soldiers dressed in armors of grass and bark rise up before you and....and.
-
tired, worn, exhausted. A feeling of having slept for hours when you meant to simply rest your eyes. the kind of weariness a working man knows as well as the back of his own work scarred hands, a strength and mind numbing weakness. Asleep? have you been asleep? Surely you must've been, as....no, you should in fact be in your grave, but the pain and cold have fled your body. and it could not have been a dream, but yet, here you are waking once more. Confused panic courses through your mind as you struggle to figure out what's happened to you, the world has turned black and your body refuses to move and yet you can feel your blood pumping and flowing with a renewed fire which quickly turns to an unbearable burning sensation. You find your limbs again, and feel a unknown part of yourself strike out in blind panic.

Then, there's a tapping, a cracking noise like fine pottery dropping to the floor. And the lulling warmth had until now not noticed begins to fade away as rushing cold bites and digs into your flesh.

A hazy picture forms as a tide carries you to a brutally hard surface, sheering winds whipping around you.

Your body still refuses to obey your commands, but you can feel other presences next to you, and hearing the shifting of metal, a flash of fear grabs your mind as you remember the work of the healers given to work upon ruined men like butchers, or worse those corpse stealers seeking foul reagents from the dead. Alive, they must not realize you're alive. just a twitch, a sole movement to draw their eyes and they'll keep their blades away if only for a moment longer. and with a great force of will, you manage to find one of your hands and clench it. It feels heavier than it should and as it balls up to a fist your body raises up slightly, damp blankets covering you like a burial veil and...and.

How...how strange? you can see stone, and not the open field where you would be treated next to the battle. Carved stone, old stone. fort stone set with liquid marble between its blocks and....what manner of fort would use bricks this large? its an odd size, not at all normal for building purposes, too much work to move, yet still small enough to require effort to sheer down.

A mix of these.

First we calm ourselves and think, then we evaluate the situation of the others.

We need to be calm if we are going to get anything done.
>>
No, don't panic. if you panic then it will only get worse. the first coherent thought since your odd awakening rings through your mind as you lay still for a moment as the sound of metal hitting metal rings in your ears before fading away. The air is, cold at first but as you take another breath you realize its actually quite warm, almost hot and humid even. Which would make sense if they've lit a fire or lit enough incense in an enclosed space like a room filled with the wounded and or dying, you think. it makes more sense than the vague memory you have of before you fell asleep at the very least. Yes, first thing you need to do, you're safe it seems so now you must learn how badly wounded you still are, and the state of the others in the room with you. Once the order of the injured and crippled is known, then you can seek help for yourself or lend what aid you can to the others if that killing wound has some how been miraculously healed along with your guts. Wait, where's the pain? that can't have passed without leaving a mark, in fact it shouldn't have passed at all.

You can't reach your stomach with how you're laying right now with arms splayed out in front of you, you'll need to sit up. Pressing your other arm down, you manage to force your eyes open enough to see the vague outline of your own arms, and try to bend your knees to sit up without moving you midsection too much less you reopen your wound.

Then your limbs give out, and you fall on your back, the wind leaving your lungs in an instant as a bright light fills the room., But no pain? perhaps the unknown caretaker whos brought you here has drugged you to ease your passing? no, you'd still feel a wound that terrible, so why is it all that you feel is the warmth in the air and the chill of the stones beneath you?

Well, standing would be the first order of business, and with this extra light you should be able to see the room better, and its other inhabitants. At the moment at least, you seem to be in no danger of bleeding out from that spear wound, so the next course of action would be seeing the state of the others...or simply finding them. Tossing yourself on the side, the wet blankets still sticking to your back, you find it easier to drag yourself along to the vague blob of shadow in front of you, which becomes clearer as you approach it.

Poor soul seems worse off than you, seeing as even with your somewhat muddled vision the shape is shuddering and twitching as if in great pain, with weak moans of pain escaping the wretch's lips....pain you no doubt led them to.
You can't quite tell, but they too seem to be covered in a heavy blanket and strewn out on the floor like some common dog....did they even see fit to give you a bed to rest in?

There are more shapes further along, but you'll see to them once you find if your nearest neighbor requires any aid. the moans of pain...you realize now that you've crawled up to it to get a better look aren't human sounding
cont

And, as the clouds in your eyes clear, you see that what you thought was a wounded soldier is rather some great beast, cloaked in a wet covering of tissue bursting from its back, moist looking scales with strange extensions along its side and a tail larger than your own legs...or an ox by your own estimate. Body built like a wolf-cat...snake like covering, paws larger than your head. thankfully you cannot see its no doubt terrible head.

But the thing seems to be aware of you now, shuddering as it lets out a baleful wail.

Well, how much you can trust a priest depends on the god they follow, doesn't it? but that's just common sense!
>>
>>3246259
Try this.
>>
Now a normal man, a man who has not heard the dread singing of Red-Hands in the din of battle, who has not led a charge or followed suicidal orders to make a higher officer look better would perhaps, flee and screaming, banging on the door and pleading any god who'd listen for salvation. You are however, A legionnaire, why you're a centurion of a...minor noble sure, but part of a noble army none the less! A mere beast will not drive you to cry out and flee like an milk fed child, no! and sure such a sight would drive even hardened men to flee, but not you! your mind is cursed, after all, to always have some bastion of calm, clear thinking to allow you to view all the horrors of the world but also think as you would during a midnight stroll with a glass of warmed wine in hand, planning. Yes, this mind of yours was made to plan and think even with such stresses piled upon it. And yes, beasts such as this are...well you've never fought them! but you have heard and read accounts of such dread things being calmed and soothed as a newborn when sung or hummed to!
and though no membership to a chorus you claim, you can still belt out a somewhat even tune when dragged into a marching or drinking song. And that will have to do, otherwise your death is surely to follow soon after! Why must Coin-snatcher deal you only bad luck of late, it simply is not fair!

Opening your mouth, you find moving your jaws to be quite tiresome, as if someone had tied a chain though your teeth, and to make matters worse you tongue lolls out like some kind of drunk. But despite this, you begin to sing a soft lullaby your nursemaid used to sing to you and nearly jump out of your own skin as a most horrible growling noise rises into the air. Before you realize it was your own voice, you've gasped...or rather screamed in shock, the creature in front of you shrieking much the same as you on instinct more than any carefully planned move, back up with more haste than your tired body should be able to move. Mostly as your well oiled mind has gone blank with a unusual panic, a panic of realization as it slowly begins to piece together whats happening.

or rather would, if you had not stumbled on something laying still on the ground, distracted by the beasts scared thrashing and crying as you fall to the ground, flat.

And, your eyes have cleared now, and you can clearly see your hands, as they have cushioned your fall.

They are not human hands, and as you have gathered by what has replaced your commanding voice, neither is the rest of you.
claws have taken the place of fingers, and scales have replaced your dark, dusky skin. as the light rapidly approaches, you can see the color much clearer

What color are your scales? (primary at least)

A color akin to blessed god's steel, a whitish sheen beyond silver , this color would be attributed to a vein bled from either of the twin death gods or moon-eyes. Whitish steel scales, no normal beast would have such a hide and despite the confusion you are quickly coming to realize what exactly has happened to you at least in part. Stretching your claws, you think them to be iron made living, as that is the color they hold and a quick turn of your overly heavy head, you can see the mass you had imagined as a blanket is in fact a pair of wet, drooping wings like those of a bat, unable to rise up or do anything besides drag along the ground, leaving a trail of...some unwholesome liquid to be sure. they are, however the color of bloodstained bronze, perhaps metal blessed by the father of war himself? Reddish bronze wings....scales of dull iron and scales of a briliantly polished white hued steel. it reminds you of your armor, your weapons and your officers uniform you wore, and as you stretch out and dig your claw into the stone, scratching it. it finally sinks into your mind.

You aren't human any more, your body has been weak as you have been born anew as an infantile beast....a dragon as nothing else you know holds any number of these characteristics you now possess, and the fading recollection of what that moon maddened old man had said makes a little more sense now.

He has somehow turned you, and other poor souls into dragon whelps. If only you had been part of force sent to Emberlayn. Still, at least you still retain your sharpened mind. You cannot assume the same as that....wait? if you were just now born? and that poor thing was in such a state then doesn't that mean they're your sibling by blood now?

Hmm, there is a mirror laid in front of you, resting upon a pile of fine rugs...look Karskian from your lacking knowledge on such things.

What do you do?
[] gaze upon your new self, no sense in denying reality
[] Calm your apparent sibling, the best you can
[] try and plan escape from this nest in what seems to be a storage room
[] Realize all of your problems have changed and take a bit to build a list of your current problems and possible solutions

of course you only noticed that as you're trying to avoid the fact that you've somehow turned into a dragon. A rather shocking fact, but as strange as it is, you can't really deny it or ignore it. Something would be very wrong if you could, in fact. So its better to just face your new self, get an image of what you are and see if that helps at all to make this a little less...shocking. The light grows in intensity as you hear boot muffled foot falls approaching you, and after a brief glare from the mirror blinding your new, untested eyes, you manage to get a look at yourself. And what a pitiful sight it is. Barely open eyes, heavy lidded and drooping set in the middle of a head that can barely raise itself from the ground, pathetic wings pulsing with veins shuddering at the merest touch of the wind. Scales, covered in some thick liquid that has collected dust and other foulness. You almost can't bear the sight of yourself, and stop yourself from looking away, managing to raise your head proudly and jut out your chest for a second glance.

You must focus, clear your minds of the worries of that battle, your training, and various morning duties and oblications, you have a new set of issues to deal with, and the first is learning to move so you may deal with the others. And a very good way to do that, is to get a look at your body, and envision how its muscles would pull and contract, comparing it to something from nature.

yes, holding your head up high! you can tell you have four limbs, not including wing and tail and that your scale covered body is...well it sort of looks like a..

LION SHAPED. 2 con, 2 str, 1 dexterity

A lion. You've seen them before of course, even seen a man devoured by a starved one at a mock execution held at your true born brother's last birthday. Majestic creatures, mighty creatures. Always wanted to go on a hunt for one, if not for the fact that was a privilege above you station. Still, you have much to admire in the beasts, they were in a way, like you. An air of pride and fine breeding, but a pack creature, one that had to work with its fellows to accomplish anything. Deadly and regal. And now you see why you've had such trouble "Standing" before, besides your new quadrupedal nature. You've been trying to stand flat on your "hands" and "feet" as it were. great paw like hands capped with claws, yes, you've seen how lions moved and with some thought it should be easy to learn how to walk once gets into proper working order. Hopefully you don't share as much with felines besides your body and claws, otherwise you'll be as defenseless as a kitten. But that shouldn't be a worry, already your wings are starting to...somewhat listen? You've got them to shift a little since you've been observing your new vessel, and can lift your neck and head, getting a long look at it to see its a mixture of a lion's visage and that of reptile or snake in someway. But it leans more towards the former, a very, feline....regal look. Actually its quite lovely, handsome even. if it weren't for you're careful grooming of your hair and beard you'd be almost grateful, but now it just makes you feel as if you've wasted time with all that.

Hmm, yes indeed. this isn't too unpalatable, in fact it isn't disagreeable, it is actually almost welcomed. Yes, your soul must've shined through, for this face of yours, this body in fact truly shows not only your breeding but your own dignified graces, your cat like calm....though it seems your eyes have taken on that same reddish bronze hue as your wings. A shame really, you used to have such lovely sapphire colored eyes.

The footsteps get closer as you lift and turn your head again, sitting more comfortably in a manner you've seen cats do before, to more easily admire and inspect your new self. And....the grating shrieking of terror your new sibling is making tugs at your heart's own blood. it sounds like man dying. horrid. simply horrid

what do you do?
[] keep inspecting (choose a few secondary traits)
[] turn to face the footsteps
[] hide from the approaching man
[]Help your sibling come to grips, honestly its a little embarrassing to hold panic for so long
[] preen and try to clean yourself
[] Pretend to be asleep in front of the mirror, assess the situation and potential danger, then act. being too hasty led you to this mess, can't make the same mistake now
[] figure out how to speak, just in case you must lecture some one or play the diplomat today

Hey, sis, calm down
>>
Well, while proper appearances and a groomed look are important for a legionnaire and especially a general or officer of the army, you have all the time in the world to figure out the horn and tail and wing and...other odd parts situation later. However, your heart and soul simply cannot stand that dreadful noise, that noise of fear, pain, and instinctual confusion. That crying sibling of yours may not remember who they were as you do, or perhaps simply never were a mortal man, but you still cannot stand hearing another suffering so shortly after the tragedy you led your men into, that you suffered. And beast or man be their mind, they are your blood now, no longer are you tied to your family by blood, but you are bound to them and the others of this brood you've been born into. For no matter the form, blood is the most holy of substances. So, as the first hatched...you think? it falls upon you to watch over, guard, and bring your sibling to their senses.

Besides, its a bit embarrising to hold onto panic for so long! why you have already figured out the basis of walking and opened your eyes, while they lie squalling on the floor like an infant. have they no shame.

Huffing, raising your head as you try to stride and end up stumbling and swaying with every step, you retrace your steps to the pile of crackling, ember filled logs where what you assume to be your and your siblings eggs had lain. Sitting back down on your haunches, you look over them like a curious cat, taking in their looks. It'd appear they're different then you, holding a more ruddy red appearance, with smoother, red scales that shine like rubies, with a few dips of gold both brilliant and dull speckled on their sides and under belly. Their body is also long, stretched out, serpentine with four long limbs, somewhat spindly with longer claws than your own. And...fins? their wings are fin like, and they also have fins along their sides and limbs and between their claws. More adapted to an aquatic existence you think. And while you didn't get a good look at your own horns, being distracted by your scales and face, theirs are spear like things, curling over their spiked brows as pure white as pearls, long as well....they also have an odd sort of loose, hanging frill that would be mistaken for hair at a glance, as you had done. Overall, they are slighter than you, with thinner claws and needle like fangs. More reptilian, judging from their thin snout.

also very flexible as they're tangled in themselves. almost impressive that.

Clearing your throat, you hack up a ball of slime, drooling it on them as they look up at you, pale blue eyes wide with fright as they see your throat ripping fangs and hanging tongue as you try not to choke on whatever had filled your throat. Closing your lips, you raise your head, trying to retain your dignity as you place a hand? upon their....where their shoulder should be at least.

"straaahhhh'apa" You manage to gurgle and growl, trying to say stop with an entirely unfamiliar mouth, your leg muscles flexing as you hold them still. Breathing deep, your chest rises as you bow your head

"Hrreeeuuuuuumaaaaa" You say slowly trying to figure out how to say human with a mouth more fit to be an armory than the instrument for one as enlightened and verbose as yourself. You are not sure if this is working, as this one's emotions are hard to read...terror and panic is clear, but only in their eyes.

What do you do?
[] Simply stay near them, and look yourself over a while more
[] drag them to the mirror,
[] Sigh and try to tell them exactly what's going on

Well, this shall be quite an obstacle won't it? this mouth is simply not used to speaking, its already such a pain part of you almost wants to give up and move onto other chores you've set for yourself, like figuring out where you are and how to walk properly. But, well. What sort of ma...dragon would you be to abandon one of your fellows, and not just that but a sibling to their lonely terror? probably a proper one, to be honest, but well, you still believe that all creatures should respect their ties of blood. It wouldn't be right to just ignore such connections! and it'd feel wrong to leave such a pitiful creature by themselves. So you clear your throat, and let out a crackling, almost shrill sigh as your roll your neck and nearly fall over as its weight tries to pull you down to the ground again.

"Nnnnn ought....aaaaaaah...thhhrrrrraaaahTY" You hiss out, slowly getting used to your new tongue and how your fangs make yours words sound, placing the claw on their shoulder to your heart...where it used to be at least "BRaaaaathoooour, freeeee ahnd"

You tap your claw on your lighter hued underbelly, your sickle like claws making a light din as you look down at them and tilt your head, waiting for a response. they struggle for a second, realizing you haven't tried to eat them yet, and that a human body could never bend in that many ways (hopefully they do at least). but they still seem to be still caught in a panic. Of course, not everyone is blessed with such a cool mind as yours, and as you have your wits still, it falls to you to lead them to a clear mind, so you may discuss your situation and figure out the next course of action. Two minds, even with a vast difference between them, is far better than one. foolish ideas are better than biased ideas after all

"Wraaag-it, Eeeerrrrr" You growl, licking your fangs, it takes much more breath to speak than it used to, but you will adjust. if they cannot understand your words as more than growls and hissing, then a kind gesture will show that they are not alone and you are no danger to them. A simple, caring gesture will do....oh that would do! they are soaked wet still, as they have not had the time to collect ash and dust as you have! that will show where you stand to them! AND karskian rugs are made to absorb moisture like a sponge! perfect, just grab one of the shabbier ones to not annoying their owner, who is most likely your mother and bring it back! and then you can begin actual communication! find out if they were one of your men. Yes that will be the plan. You try make a few noises, slowly finding how to pitch your new voice and control the noises your tongues makes with many squeals, croaks, hisses, grows and near roars slowly making them selves into your name, Baslin, Baslin. its a start and

"AH! the Centurion! I recognize that wisdom in your eyes" that joyously mad voice from before you slept rings in your ears, as you glance to your side as you stumble and fall to your side, and see a rosy cheeked, white haired looking hermit in a bright, fluffy pinkish purple robe....holding what appears to be a roast rabbit on a skewer, with a carving knife in the other hand....he is also wearing women's slippers

"of course you'd be so dignified and quick witted to adjust so easily! thought you might have fled for a moment when you were not by thine holy vessel"

You stare at the mad man for a moment as he frowns.

"Your egg" He sighs, losing his jovial tone "Most....newborns panic you see, so I worried the worse, please forgive me for thinking you so...instinctual. But, I've brought a meal for you and your uh...peers? no, siblings. as it'd be easier to explain and teach them when their bellies are filled and...where you going"

"Arther theeengs taaaagh doooooe" You hiss as you grab one of the rugs in your claws, cutting into it as the man hops behind you and catches it

"Ah, making a nest?" he asks cheerfully, looking down at you with sparkling, youth filled eyes despite being as wrinkled as a pickled plum "Oh of course, you must rest! its must be exhausting and....oh such lovely scales and wings I must say my lord! and your hor.."

Fine, teeth will work better until you get your strength in your "hands" and arms again. biting into the rug, you drag it and quickly find it to weigh more than expected, but thankfully you can drag it like a lion drags its kill, having watched them preform the action, you figure your neck strong enough to replicate the feat considering the resemblance.

Ignore him Baslin, you tell yourself as you slowly drag the dusty marsh green and dull orange rug over to your slightly less squirmy sibling, taking a few uneven steps towards them as the retainer that must serve your new mother continues to shower praises upon your still weak, and unsteady body. Just pay him no Heed baslin, fools have naught to say be idiocy don't let it take root in your mind. Huffing, you drop the now slightly drool covered rug in front of the tangled bramble of scales and fins that is your less stalwart sibiling, and begin to try and pick it up in a way that won't dig your dagger like fangs into their still soft flesh, or coat them in a new layer of drool.

"Oh....oh I see, still so concerned about the men beneath thee, I must say, that is not very draconian...but how many of your elders have been slain by traitorous vassals, I wonder?" He says, reaching for you before you shoot him a hateful glare, and he moves his hand away from you as quick as he was to shower you in praises "Forgive my impudence, my young lord. I shall leave you to your duty, the others will no doubt be hungry"

And with that, the fool and his praises leave you, and give you a moments silence. Closing your eyes to savior it, a sigh slips from your mouth as you try to gently pat your sibling down, opening your eyes to see their eyes have calmed somewhat, as has their breathing. It seems, they've come to realize you mean them no ill and can be trusted as a brother would trust a brother, because that is what you are now and you can see the gratitude growing in their eyes. it makes your heart warm, especially after your most shameful mistake and

"Faaan kaaa oooooh" they try to speak in thanks in a more wispy, soft and feminine face, more like a cat's purr mixed with a vipers hiss than your roaring growl. A grumble rise from your throat, as you're unable to speak, and simply guide the rug with the help of your heavy, weary hand. Using the other to keep balanced.

This shall be quite a trial already, you've come to realize. especially with that moon "blessed" fool hounding your every mood with needless praising.

>>3247184
Might be a useful art, though. I'd assume a rare few would be willing to deal with us in our present form, but we can amass wealth and power by creating masterpieces or create our own gear and armaments without much burn on funds.

Dragon artist success based solely on the implication that he'll burn your town/castle to the ground if you refuse to buy his art.

I disagree. We aren't a standard bearer or a sergeant, we are a force of our own.
The ability to control metals would be more fitting for our regal self.

Well, yes. While metal is something to be reckoned with, I feel it is more appropriate for Baslin to possess buffing magic. Baslin is to be an entity that turns the tides of war and controls the flow of battle.

It has been some time, since you've awoke to your new body. Not long, you imagine, at most a handful of hours and even that is treading the line of sheer implausibility. Your scared sibling has calmed greatly with your tender care, brushing of and cleaning down their scales to try and sooth them and have a reason to avoid that madman who seems to now be your caretaker for the time being. This lull in activity has allowed you to reflect on your current situation, and how it is....an improvement from simply dying slowly in the muck somewhere, at the very least. time will tell, you suppose if it is better than your previous life or not. for now, you must simply gather as much knowledge as you can so you are not caught off guard again. Dropping the completely ruined Karskian rug, you turn your head up, looking at your sibling expectingly as they struggle to untangle themselves from their own body, trying to speak but still struggling while you have...managed to grasp the basics of speech again at the very least to the point of being understood. And judging from the baleful cries and horrid wailing filling this wealth filled nursery down in the bowels of some forgotten keep, you are the only among the clutch to. Your body hungers, but you are nothing if not disciplined, and can go for awhile longer before needing to face the fool of the moon again. Which leaves you in an odd situation, you have leisure time, for the moment at least. scanning the room, you can see it has been lit up with odd purple flames, filled with a thick low hanging smoke that should choke even the hardiest man, and....wealth, fine tapestries and rugs, expensive barrels of wine, shining metals and coins, masterwork and ceremonial weaponry, aged armor from dynasties before/. its like walking into a great families personal treasury, maybe even the emperors own. it is quite impressive, despite the soot covering most of it and the somewhat damp conditions its all been left in.

"HAaaaaaalph" your sibling cries, some how getting their head stuck neath their leg. You sigh, glad to have been the younger, bastard son for the first time in your life

But, this is the duty of the eldest son you suppose, to guide and protect those born after himself. A duty which you must now preform, by untangling your somewhat dimwitted sibling. Honestly, how did they manage to ensnare themselves with their own bodies? it seems like a happening from a fool's opera, to you. but you suppose, it does make sense considering the body they were born with. Luckily, you know how to untie even the most devious knots. Just follow the loops and. You frown as you place your hands upon the largest twist they've made themselves into, feeling your claws slip as you try to push them apart. No, that won't do, you'll just hurt them. But the feeling of them has made them squirm, and now you'll have to fight against them! fantastic!

"Staph, meeerving baaadiiii, Mraooovroah Yargh Neeck" You say as you push both of your forelimbs down on their back, claws spread "Crawlmmmrr, yargh Brahfff, Ber aaat peassss, Slrrroooghly mrrrooov lag. Grrooooood"

they slowly follow your coaching and advice, as you move your hands to hold their wriggling form down to keep them from slipping along the form like some kind of beached eel. Also it helps you practice speaking, so...two birds one stone.

Eventually, with the help of a raised claw to lift one of their coiling "Backs" they manage to slip under themselves, and finally be free of their literally self made prison. And for some reason, all of this has left you more emotionally exhausted then your officer training.

Raising your head to the ceiling to try and take a smoke free breath, your younger sibling hops, chirping and making shrill noises as they move like a summer festivals flag being whipped through the air in a dance and then

"Thhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaainkaaaaa Yeeeeoooo, Srooooooaaah MArch" They cry out in a way that made the beast buried deep in you shudder in panic, reminding you of beast of the arena, or shrieking arrows as a mouthfull of needles flies towards you? An attack!? your mind asks, but the general sitting within laughs at the beast. Its a hug! but a very surprising and frightening one considering the field of razor sharp teeth flying at your face.

Its going to hurt, and it isn't a good idea with how unsteady and weak you feel your new, infantile body to be. But, it'd be cruel and just plain impolite to run from a grateful siblings, let alone their affections. Besides, it would be on of the first time a sibling of yours has shown you something besides scorn so...why not bask in it? Enjoy the fruit of a new life? It'll heal your aching soul, and a healthy soul leads to a joyous life after all, no matter what happens. Besides, why scorn them if you had just helped them and so kindly treated them? its only polite to return their affections, or at least accept them until you can figure out your claws. So puffing your chest out, you try and move in a way that won't get your wings tangled or torn, keeping your neck down just in case they start biting.

They slam against you at two points, having stumbled and shifted with every running step they took, their body waving as it meets yours. Thankfully their scales are softer than yours, and their fins light, and they had enough sense of mind to keep their head up so they didn't gore you upon their horns. At first they try to hug you as a man would a friend, but quickly realize it isn't working as you shift a step back to better hold their weight upon your unworked back. For a moment they still and slide down you, opening their mouth to bite before you give them a discouraging glare, their sparkling eyes looking away with a huff before they simply try and coil around you enough for whatever their slipping and sliding is to be considered a hug. they...they don't let go quickly, and you worry for a second they may be stuck on you and shift to be sure you aren't tied up in your own sibling. they move as you raise your hand, and begin to shift around you like a constricting snake, fins passing over yours scales as they chirp and squeal and.

And fall headfirst onto a pile of fine, red silk pillows, next to a rather delicate butterfly styled hand mirror. With a squeaking moan, their body loosens and drops, and you turn to make sure they aren't injured and see them staring at their own reflection in wonder.

You snort, of course they'd be fine, even as children dragons must be strong and they did fall on something....soft.

You pause, seeing a mirror set in front of you inside of a crawling ivy patterned coach pillows, and see yourself again in much brighter light. And your siblings waving tail as they try and find out how to stand

In the Elklands, they are mostly concentrated in Emberlayn and Rarega's borders. as it stands, compared to humans and other beasts, they are uncommon and rightfully so. Quality is rare after all. But they aren't in danger of being wiped out or fading, and hold their own hidden culture and "civilization"

Magic is spread throughout the elk lands, but not commonly known as each country has its own manner of harnessing the power within their blood. but if a man knows the right runes he can carve a spell into himself and probably die casting a spell from it. the safe way involves tattoos, scarring or carrying items with the magic symbols etched in.

But these aren't considered magic users, magic users are the rare few who can remember runes, circles and sequence beyond the simplest showing of magic, and call upon them without taking and digging a knife into their flesh.

Depends on the dragon, but they did try to overthrow the gods in the infancy of the world. Generally a grown dragon would need an army, a well trained force equipped to deal with them (maybe even magically or godblessed to do so) or a mighty beast or one of their kin to be in true danger of dying. For a hatchling like yourself, you present the same danger as a wolf or lynx. if they were covered in armor and had swords on their hands. think alligator fighting a man at arms here

Hmm, you thought your wings were simply drooping due to only recently being hatched, and still soaked in the foul fluid you had been bathed in. but now that you've gotten a clean look at the, you realize they are large, oversized even and the membranes that make up the wing hangs and droops slightly on its own, making the entire thing appear like a cloak or cape when they're not held aloft, and even now as you manage to raise them up an inch or two, they droop and hang casting your entire body in dark shade. Strange? but it could be useful if they don't get in the way. You drop them and lift your tail for the first time, properly seeing it in its somewhat feline mixed serpent shape and snort in surprise as you see the end of the tail has a brilliant gladius fused to it! no wonder your sibling was so frightened of you! you had been dragging a blade across the ground, a sharpened one as well! On closer inspection you see its made of your scales but...still, a natural weapon, perfect.

And as you tilt it in the light, trying to ignore your sibling thrashing and tossing pillows in the air behind you, crying "HAaaaalph!" in [a panic again, you finally see your horns outside of their vague shape.

They are the same color as your scales, but more polished and speckled with small flakes of red bronze, more so near their base behind your brow.
Running along the back of your head, the curve down before reaching and twisting back up and ending in a near curled point. They are magnificent! they almost look like a crown or work of art.

"Oh, so that's why that fool was so focused on my horns, can't blame him for admiring them. they're beautiful" You think outloud, which ends up sounding like a growling hiss.

Well, no point in admiring yourself so...egotistically for too long, you need to keep your sibling from getting tangled again after all

Elemental breath (Seems obvious)
General's voice (Your voice can carry vast distances, and can make the weak willed obey commands without thought, and allow your orders to breech even the most panicked or muddled mind, or cow them into terror or shatter glass)
Lord's Aura (People and lesser things naturally see you as superior, noble and a regal existence, and with focus can be forced to bow or to treat you with respect. similar to general's voice, but its a mental presence that makes them think they should serve you, rather than obeying a shouted order)

And then as you turn to help them find their feet and learn how to stand properly in their new form. You notice something odd, as you drag your claws over the small hand-mirror's handler to avoid stepping on it, a strange rust colored glow burns in the veins hidden under neath scale and flesh, traveling and spreading in your claws. it almost looks like fog as the light grows hazy and yet brighter somehow. And to your shock, the polished metal begins to tarnish slowly, growing specks of it at first before it begins to lose all luster, slowly ruining and turning into little more than a corroded mess in the vague shape of a mirror, the glass itself losing its reflection as the silver back is eaten away by the spreading corruption.

"COME! COME! food awaits!" You hear in another corner of the room, the mad man still here "I'll explain all to you! worry not! this is merely a passing confusion! do not fear or flee, I am your humble servants, my lords"

"Reht?" Your sibling asks, lifting their neck up as you shake yours and try to ignore the shouting

"Buht aaah froooul" You snort, flicking your tongue to try and control it better, and after a moments pause manage to bark "An idiot" clearly enough that it doesn't sound like your entire mouth is numb and tangled. Your sibling laughs a chattering laugh that cause their entire snake like body to convulse and pulse as they twist and turn around like a rope caught in a current again. obviously they thought what you just said was one of the funniest things they've ever heard judging from their reaction. And now that you think of it, you do not actually, know who this is? or their name! or anything at all besides the fact they are your sibling and seem to retain their personality as much as you have. Unless this is just what dragon hatchlings act like, which could explain why they're always hidden away from prying eyes like the most valuable gem. Of course, since they can speak...to a degree, that is unlikely to say the least. So...obviously this must be on of the soldiers from the battle that had nearly gotten you into Last-Hunter's jaws, perhaps even one of the number you led and it just feels...shameful to not know who they are, or at least their name. And besides, with how....complicated their body makes moving, it'd be a trial just to get them over to that fools lecture or whatever he has in mind. giving you, a time free of possible annoyance to discuss all manner of things with them, get to know them and deepen your camaraderie with them, as after you have no idea how pleasant the others will be and...this one at least seems quite friendly and warm in personality, a good friend to have among serpents you'd think.

"N...n..aah...Name" You manage, not wanting to make such horrid noises in place of words anymore "W..wah..what ee...is y..urrrogh..your name? A..I ahhm BAA...Bas..lee..Baslin"

They pause for a moment, halfway burried under a mound of silk pillows as their eyes widen with recognition of your name! which means that they're one of yours! yes! One of them survived! You are not dammed for your mistake after all! oh what a glorious revelation! if you were not still adjusting and exhausted you might have sung in joy just then.

"Greee....ger...gah....geh? Hrrrr...geh, nnni...rrrrr aaaa leee?" the says, AH yes general...you think? not their name but acknowledgement of you are. So with all your dignity you nod, smiling and curious as to who this Legionaire is

"U...ah..and you?" You ask, stepping closer as they lower themselves into the mound of pillows, eyes narrowing and trying to avoid your gaze. You stop and turn to meet them again, repeating your question "And you?"

"D...d..drrrriii...doh...ni..t" they mumur "giii...git...mah..di?"

Don't get mad?

"Wa..why?" You ask, lowering yourself to their level "Why wrrr...would Aiii grraagt mad?"

"Liiiidah?" they whisper, closing their eyes and burying their face into the nearest pillow to their face

"LAaaghd?" you ask, lied about what!?"

"Ah...ahm...Ju...ji...juliana" She says meekly as she burrows deeper and you snort, chuckling in relief. Oh dear, thought that might've been some foul secret

>[x] softly tell her she fought well, better than some of the men
>>
But, there is the fact she fought as valiantly as any man who fell by your side, and better than a few in fact. And does it really matter? besides the utter tragedy it was of course, why would it be deepened by her being a woman? She still fell under your command, and followed you to death's waiting jaws. sure this changes a...few things, but does that truly matter now if it was in the past. Chuckling softly, you flap your wings and tap your claw on a nearby pillow

"Yrrroo, you f..arght...fought well" You say softly, reassuringly as she looks up at you, confused and stunned for a moment before her eyes begin to sparkle once more "Braa...better than some of them men?"

"Rriiiiii?" She chirps excitedly, lunging towards you as you lift your wings a high as you can, casting both of you in darkness "Rrriiiilly? real.."

"Yrress" You say with a grin, fang filled surely but its still a smile is it not? "And I didn't notice until now! .you must be a Geeeag...genius unknown! or I am a idiot"

"Hiiii" She chuckles before her eyes narrow, as she rises out from the hill of pillows "Yooo rrrrragh nnnniiahgt sssscary"

"Orgh? you thought me frightening?" You ask as she chitters, laughing as she jumps and bounds off, dancing around like she had before once more....perhaps this is her trying to find out how to walk with her strange new form? well, no matter the reason, it is quite amusing.

"Wiiird wiiird" she chirps "eeei? yooo say suuumthiiiin?"

You nod "You said you thought I was scary before" you say at a winter's pace to make sure you are heard clearly and actually say words instead of growling

She pauses for a moment, confused before laughing again

"Ah ah....yeeer aaaiis" She says, looking at your eyes "yerrr....eiies...eyes, Brah, tang wiirrd, hiiaight thfffis, hiiow argh yooo talkiiin nooormaaahl?"

"Practice, and my eyes were scary?" You ask, feeling oddly hurt

"Bah, prrraaactiiisss" She hisses, shaking her head and then the rest of her body "boring...and yeess, thhhaaay wirrr hrrrrard uundah cii..ci..cold"

"See, practice works, and they were?" You slowly, pausing for breath halfway through your response to your sister

She nods "serious eyes, they were, not now?" She says with a sigh "whhhhii aarr wii talhkin bouht thaaght? Wii drrrraaigons!"

and then she bounds off, trying to say something before you hear several crashes and anohter

"Haaalph" Echoing through the room as the mad man's constant droning ceases for a moment

The "Haaalph" is indeed cute.
>>
"Yrrres" You say loudly, hoping your voice will reach her wherever she's gone and tripped "We arrrgh in fact drraagons, how perceptive of you"

there's a brief silence for a few seconds as you stand up and follow the steps your sister, Juliana, took during her stumbling unsteady sprint as quickly as you can with your still unsteady feet. It isn't really hard to find where she went after rounding the corner, considering the small, misplaced object along the path cut through the piles of wealth upon wealth. She couldn't have gotten too far and infact you see her finned tail waving around in the air but a few steps ahead now, under a few dishes made of polished gems, thankfully not shattered.

"Bas? Haaalph?" Juliana asks hopefully as her tail relaxes, as she probably hears you pushing the various plates out of your way to get to her

"I don't think I can?" you say, trying not to laugh as you notice she isn't in much trouble, besides becoming a bit tangled in what looks like a drape of silk, and not even in a way that would bind her. You assume she felt something wrapped along her length and assumed she had gotten tangled again. She notices your restrained chuckle and looks up with an offended look in her eyes, hissing with a hint of anger as her frills begins to rise and then she notices the silk wrapped around her like a kind of dress

"Oh....Hii" She says as she starts to cackle and you begin to laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation, which just makes her laugh harder as she rolls and twists back onto her feet.

"Oh?" A voice like a thunder's crack echos above you as the room turns as dark as night, the ground shaking as a coins and bright gems fall around you, clinking almost like rain off the ground as the landscape around you shifts "And here I thought my aged companion could still keep numbers straight. and yet what do I see beside my resting body, if not two of my children, newly born and left alone, ungathered and unwatched by their guardian...left to wander and frolic"

A great heat washes over you as Juliana's laughter slowly dies, as the shadow deepens, as a mass of fine silks unravel and roll past you as a great claw the size of a tree lifts up from under them.

"But...not at all panicked...playing? Perhaps?" the storm's voice says, sweetening as the shadow grows ever darker "Adjusted to their new bodies, showing no fear, not even of the unknown surrounding them nor their predicaments. How strange to see from former mortals and....so trusting as well? hmmm. Well you are young after all, there is much you can learn before..."
cont
>>
>>3251035

Despite every fiber of your mind and being tell you not to look to the source of the blasting, burning winds that are flowing around you...you turn and see a great mass of hair hanging over dark purple scales with mismatched fangs and burning red eyes hidden in the shadows they cast, peering up from a mass of tapestries depicting a purple dragon in flight or fight depending on the piece. An absolutely massive snout of a beast far larger than any you've ever known.

"I leave you to spread your wings, or abandon you as pretenders to the claim of being my young" the dragon, who must be your mother says scathingly before stopping, and flashing a wicked smile "Ooooh you are both so adorable though"

the laugh sends you to the ground and stops with a panicked hiss

"Wait, wait, are you both alright?!" You mother says, fretting as she pushes her claw around both of you to draw a circle in her horde and the stone beneath "I forgot my size for a moment, haha...I am going to have to take a pound of flesh for that fool forgetting two absolutely adorable little tyrants like you, and leaving you cold and alone. My my, you have at least inherited my beauty and"

the blazes of hell made eyes fall on you and narrow as ground shaking purr echos in your school as you try to decide how you should feel about this as the claw far larger than your body floats above your horns

"MAJESTY" she growls in delight as she crawls closer "Oh if you are both like this! I have high hopes for the others! such delightful little babies....oooh I am so delighted I listened to my loyal retainer, just a pound of flesh will due to punish him for abandoning you two, ooooh, my children, my children, my beautiful untarnished babies...."

"Hiiiiiiiii" Juliana finally breaths out as the only light becomes your new mother's eyes as she wraps her wings closely around you, so the size of a cottage and peeks down, the orbs appearing as twin suns.

"I ever so hope you do not disappoint me....so never play like that in front of prying eyes, you are MINE! and must act appropriately when watched. I will not be the mother of two fools" She says, her voice deepening and rumbling to quake the ground as she scrapes a claw across the ground to make a horrid noise "So heed my warning now, so I must not take a POUND of flesh from either of you"

Julian bumps into you trying to hide beneath your wings as a long, empty period of silence passes before your mother makes a purring noise and....squeaks as the sound of cracking stone tells you she just smacked some part of herself on the ground

"Awww I didn't mean to so terrify you, my sweetlings, I was just making sure you know what I told the imbecile to inform you of! I will make you DRAGONS! or be rid of you" She says as kindly as an old grandmother with massive spears for teeth

He gave me at least two absolutely daaarling children, mayhaps I should teach you our ways myself?"

"Tieeeth" Juilana manages to say as the massive bulk of your mother surrounds you both as she playfully pushes toward you with her claw

"Oh, my aren't you resourceful, able to speak again already" She says rocking her massive head back and forth with a wide....smile? on her lips "Just hatched and already adjusted...don't worry, Mother is here, you don't need to be so tensly on edge, rest if you wish, I will be more than happy to merely have you by me, watching you sleep a dreamless sleep before I feed you the innards of the fool who left you to wander away from pyre nests into the cold unattended!"

>introduce yourself and your sister. Clearly this is our mother we have nothing to fear as long as we follow her words.
>>
"Ssssshhhh" I you say softly as you push your wing over your sister with your hand to try and comfort her in the face of something that, by all means appears to be kin of titan and spawn of Heart-Eater herself "do not fear, for I am by your side, just...close your eyes for a spell"

"Oh and you're even better at it" Your mother says sweetly as she can, laughing as she lays herself down and keeps her blazing eyes locked on you "So he did not lie about your composure, still....a pound of flesh for leaving you and your sister alone"

You allow yourself to be Juliana's shield against your mothers terrifying presence as she tilts her head to the side and smiles again, scooting herself closer to you still.

"Do not protect the fearful, she must learn fear is a distant, mortal thing, a thing to make, not feel" Your mother says softly "or she Shall learn it by fire and example, my little one"

"I...I will not leave my sister, my duty is too the blood that flows through my veins from yours" You say slowly as the enormous face of your mother slowly creeps closer, obviously trying not to startle you while getting closer to fawn over you, but you can't help but feel you've been give the role of the mouse to play in front of a titanic snake. You bow your head, and take a breath as the air turns scalding, yet comfortable somehow "If that...embarresses you, I am sorry mother, it is my way"

"Tch, the teachings of gods should be forgotten" She says, with a drawn out sigh of dark smoke "but...it is adorable, seeing you play the part of a knight, ironic even, but you will need to forget such things...though, I am glad you know your place, and respect your mother already my darling. Do not worry, your sister will learn or will not, guard her if you wish, she will grow strong or she will not be a proper dragon. But seeing her cling to fear, is endearing in its own way, may you move your wing so I may comfort her myself"

"I cannot, as she has lain upon it" You say bluntly as your mother makes a purring noise in delight, like a mother would seeing one child pull on another's clothes "And...may I be so bold as to, ask you your name, so I may adress you properly and with all respect, and so my sister may do the same. For I, you son Baslin will do his best to please you in exchange for his ne..."

"No" She says dully as she gently nudges you with her claw, trying to find your sister "Do not use that name, it is dead..also do try to speak clearly, I know I am frightening to you still...you will learn. not to be..of course until you must be"

"b...but its my" You say slowly

"Was" She says as you whisper the same "See? you learn fast"

"then what is my...what do I call you?" You ask slowly "And what I am called"
cont
>>
>>3251168

"Hmm, I will bless you both with a name when I am sure you are mine" She says warmly, cooing as she brushes your shivering sister "So worry not, and you may call me Mama, of course! awww, so small and fragile, such a strange feeling, the urge to protect instead of destroy, yet it is so lovely and fulfilling"

You stare up at her eyes for a moment before they trail from the fear stricken Juliana to you again as she smiles.

"but I have many names and titles that mean nothing to you, you will learn all of them of course, but for now, the name gifted to me as I shall name you some day....is Malix'althari'del, a name unspoken by gods" She says softly "And huddle to thine kin, your sister is suffering from the chills, so now it shall be two pounds of flesh from him"

You do not say that it is not at all a "Chill" that has shaken and afflicted your sister, but crawl over to her again, placing your wing back over her as she grabs onto it to feel safe.

The eyes still watch you, and you can hear your mother mumbling about wanting to see you fall asleep.

"M...my liege?" You hear from somewhere outside of the darkness created from her wings

"Bring the others to me, after my babies have drifted to sleep, then we shall have a talk, Vilith...and bring them food! do you intend to starve them!"

And, you fear for the mad man's life at this point, and fear your mother's desired sleep will escape you for sometime with her so close

and we'll stop here for now
if I feel able, I'll run more tonight or tomorrow morning, or Wednesday (or some combination, though later tonight is doubtful) and if we need a new thread, I might start it one Saturday.

And end of session discussion!

Do you fear her? what do you think of your two family members so far
>>
>>3251208
I fear her the same way I fear a crazy cat lady. As in I'm fully expecting her to go batshit insane at the drop of a hat that'll make even the crazy old man seem like a beacon of proper logic.
>>
>>3251208
I fear for our adoravle sister, mother seems intent on destroying every ounce of empathy we may have and may even try to make us turn on one another, I just hope we can please her while secretly keeping our good side from her, and help our sister to survive this.
>>
>>3251208
I like the sister and i want to subbornly hold on to our humanity and past name. We can go along with what she wants for now but once we are free let us live to lead and create not destroy.

We will have to do our best to please our mother and lead our troops through this adversity.
>>
>>3251208
I got the feeling mom was kind of a bitch from the start with all that indulging and fucking around and then panicking when she got with child and wasn't prepared, maybe she is relatively young herself.

Now I'm worried that her bitchy side may spell trouble for our brothera and sisters, that she may discard some of them, that would make me hate her.
>>
I think we do not fear Mother, but we obviously can't speak for the others, I mean after all she does seem quite terrifying for something once human.

Probably the best course of action is to just stick close to her so we can become used to her presence through over-exposure, im sure us being so willing to be by her side might win us some favor

Also I think it might be best to help train both ourselves Juliana to hold onto her empathy and humanity in secret, if only to ensure we don't get tossed out to fend for ourselves
>>
>>3251208
Sister and mother are adorable in different ways, and I look forward to meeting the rest of the clutch, and one day leading them into battle
>>
>>3251224
That. Our name isn't dead and shall never die, we will accept the new one she will give us but we are and will always remain human.

She’s dangerously unstable. We should play along to the best of our ability while preparing avenues of escape if we outstay her maternal mood.

Of course I fear her, only a crazy idiot wouldn't. It would be just as insane to not play along to the fickle, crazy dragon though. As for our new sister, she's alright, and she was one of our soldiers, of course we'll do our best to keep her and the rest of our revived men safe

Awe man. Guess I was too late to vote for General's voice. It would have been nice to subjugate a group of people to our will.
Can we reverse the effects of our rusting powers? In the future could our aura selectively choose what we want to rust?
Shit I feel bad for Vilith. He's a crazy dude, but in a way he did uphold his end of the bargain and saved us and one of our own. Anyway we can convince dragon mom not to needlessly punish him? It's not that we feel bad about it per say, but more it was our choice for telling him to give us some space to ourself? As in our choice?

>Do you fear her? what do you think of your two family members so far
It's most likely some part fear and some part trying to lean to love her as any son would love their mother?
Juliana is both a sibling and comrade. She'll be interesting to talk to.
Vilith is like a godfather / weird uncle / servant. I guess we would still harbor some amount of resentment, but that should fade in time.
our mom is technically a giant milf. just thought everyone should know that.

>>3251223
I like to think of it more along the lines of our mother, in her eyes, is trying to harden our hearts before we do something foolish and hurt ourselves. She's a giant, monstrous, prideful dragon, but there's still an ounce of motherly compassion in there somewhere.
>>
>>3251373
HM at work here
you can gain the generals voice later on.
and that would be a dragons blessing to undo the plague of rust,
and yes as you learn to use it

And yes Malix’althari’del (lets use malix for short) would potentially spare him if you explained you just avoided him, as she assumed incompetence.

Too soon for any of that I think, I rather not set a goal for ourselves before we get to know more about the world and being a dragon, see what opportunities present itself and if none appear what we can create.
If we set a goal now so soon we may ignore other fun and interesting ideas that may come along the way.

Alright, lets go! Going to put the gods that have been mentioned in dialogue, or baslin/your thoughts.

Death writer, former god of death reincarnation and knowledge, split himself into two separate gods, effectively ending his existence while having children.

Who are

Last-Hunter, a goddess who appears as a giant, sometimes skeletal and bloodied wolf, some merging of that and human (degree depends on what she feels like) or a savage girl dressed in a bloodied wolf hide.

Her domains are violent deaths (who she hunts), Violence, Hunting (both the same thing in their eyes) and inevitability (her hunt will always find its prey). She often appears to the dying and doomed, to "play" with them. And has been known to appear to hunters to give them a challenge. One of the four youngest of the gods

Final-friend, the polar opposite of his sister/ other half. he lords over peaceful deaths, controls fate and keeps records, and also tends to memories. He appears as a lonesome, aged ram if he wishes, but more commonly as a young man dressed in a simple wool tunic with sunbleached horns growing from his head, sometimes with a sheep's eyes or ears.

While his sister is somewhat cruel, he is extremely kind and will often follow wandering spirits to aid them in letting go to be reborn. It is said the current emperor of Rarega of grandfather had been visited by both and received council on his potential fates when Tolia declared its freedom from rarega (a play often told painting hunter as a vile trickster and friend as a tottering fool, the emperor died horribly in the following war, and as did his son....).

Both of them lead souls back to be born anew in different ways, and if a kind soul dies violently they are subject to the uncaring hunt just as a foul soul would be promised a visit by final friend. though stories are told of hunter giving mercy to those who face her without fear, and friend rending souls as his sister is known to. All in all, think of them as both two sides of a theater mask as they are often shown in plays, or as two close siblings but polar opposites

Red-hands. the first killer and only god raised from a mortal soul. Before him, none had killed their kin. He changed that and reality couldn't accept what happened, and so he became a god of sorts. The father of war, murder, strength, art and passion, he names himself as humanities patron and true lord and as an unofficial third god of death (as he watched last hunter when she was born, when most others just assumed death writer changed coats to become final friend, and so the two get along...well for the most part). He appears as a finely dressed man or woman with blood red hair, either draped in gore soaked finery or fine armor damaged and covered in ornate art. He plays a song for every battle, and watches over them with a gleeful smile.

cont
>>
>>3254114
truly loves humanity, and often chooses favorites which leads to strife with his sole friend among gods (hunter), which is why necromancy and wandering souls sometimes happen.

The only god to appear fully human in appearance, and the fifth youngest after the four split gods

Heart-Eater, Goddess of fear, humor, betrayal and corruption. Born more of titan's blood than elk blood (the two primordial forces that created life in the world) she is a twisted thing that appears cloaked or made of shadows, often shown with traits of a rat, but truly none know for sure. She finds fear humorous and dwells in the corner of they eye and dark places, leading and nurturing abandoned monstrosities born of nightmares and of course scaring people lifeless to devour their broken hearts (one of her only reoccurring features is a bloodsoaked face). Also tells great jokes and has snuck her way into comedies only to turn on the ground as she used her divine right to turn it into story of horror, with audience participation!. She can be warded off by making it seem you've carved your heart out, or appearing humorless to her joking. rides in last hunter's shadow on occasion

Coin snatcher, Goddess of wealth, good fortune and thieving. Baslin actually does not know of her well enough, and due to his non religiously raised/taught background, he mistook her for having domain over bad luck as well. When that is actually the work of Follows-behind the god? Goddess? of Bad luck, Tracking, Charity and Paranoia

Moon-eyes. The god of Outlands, isolation, night and medicine. Appears as a great owl, or a man dressed in worn owl like robes, wearing a mask that appears as their face, or somewhere in between. Rarely seen except by hermits or others who move away from civilization, he is said to have come from the moon, or was born when it was first seen in the night sky. He has said both, and is somewhat mad, which is why Vilith has been referred to as a moon man or moon born a few times. he grants those who wish it, isolation, but will also teach the secrets of medicine, alchemy or herbalism to those who seek him out and manage to answer his questions to his liking. Sometimes appears with final friend, Rarega plays show him as a bumbling, completely nonsensical madman, because he never steps in civilization and so MUST be a savage.

Which leads us to wild heir
and why the fort you're currently in was described as "devoured" by the forest around it.

Wild heir was born of the elk of beginning's blood as one of the first born gods, Along with Maiden-sea, Cave-carver, Lord-current, Wind-keeper, Time-holder, Life-weaver and death-writer (rip in pepperoni these two)
>>
>>3254141
(Also, forgot to mention this! but madness is the domain of the goddess of dreams, madness, strife and over indulgence, Titan-singer. Moon-eyes is just not well like among raregarians, so...)
He is the god of beasts, wild places and nobility, and rarega fucking hates him despite his domain over something they obsess with/ surround themselves with. Because he sided with Tolia and started the war, giving a simple woodsmen a vision of conquest, and calling beast and trees to his side. He appears as a elk horned man dressed as a king in leaves/flowers or beast hide made regalia , or in rarega, a scrap covered monster twisted between beastly shapes. Which is a reason why he's kind of filled their land with a lot of THICK and not quite right forests a generation or two back. as he was really pissed they had insulted him after he had watched over them when they made fire, he gave every beast upon the earth their forms! and they treat him as a traitor. Well liked in Tolia.

Wind-Keeper, goddess of the skies, air , all things that fly, Companionship, as well purity. Appears a a beautiful young maiden with white bird wings and flowing blue/gold hair. Her tears birthed her hand maidens and birds and all things that fly to get company while she cried out of loneliness at her "birth". Does not like things barging into her domain without invitation, despite being a very gentle mannered god, especially compared to her brother Wild-heir, or her niece and nephew Hunter and friend. Some Say heart-eater is in fact her sister who left her to fly alone to terrorize and have fun among mortals.

And for the last bit, the two life gods (there are several more, that baslin/ you simply do not know much of, or about, but they'll come up and I'll list a few if asked, Like Mother-beast, goddess of Mutation, monsters, family and GUARDIAN OF THE YOUNG)

Life-Weaver, was goddess of life, birth and nature. this act, along with death writer doing the same was known as the god split, and is how people track years currently in the elklands, because both of them grew tired and realized that their duties carried a wide range of meanings , and had grown lonely some say. So they kind of "Killed" themselves and split their souls into two new beings! it was a horrible time for the world! as life and death went all funky until the two....less pleasing halves were accepted as their blood and also their heirs (Last hunter and lovers-hart (yes, Hart, not heart)

Lovers-Hart, is the god of Fertility, Lust, adaptation and trickery, always appearing as a Deer centaur, a very handsome and drunken deer-centaur, covered in garlands and broken hearts. Not well liked in Rarega, as he is....wild but many nobles hold an image of him upon their rings, or pay actors to dress as him during their parties. Sometimes he appears, sometimes he fucks their daughter or son and makes them heavy with young, laughing at their foolishness,
>>
>>3254167
Sometimes he just gets drunk.

sometimes its wild heir in disguise and the beast slaying noble is turned into one for offending the Heir. You know, these things happen. He is, sometimes chased by last hunter, and she is inevitably tricked into chasing new quarries....at least in some more raunchy plays, who's writers always seem to meet nasty ends...

Soul spinner, goddess of imagination, creation, motherhood and healing. One of the kindliest gods, and dear friends with final friend and oddly enough not hateful of red hands. She appears as demure woman with flowing white hair that covers her like web, spreading into the river of souls as she draws her hands through it, spinning new souls and snatching the resting old ones. She also appears as a great spider, the greatest in fact, a pale white one. or a merging of the two like her....erstwhile brother. She is dressed in simple robes, like a priestess, sometimes made of her own hair. She appears to artists (when red hand hasn't already) and inventors at time, and rarely craftsmen. Other times she spins a web around final friend to instead bless the dying with new life, or snatches them from the jaws of last hunter to do the same. if pleased or granted a gift, it is said she will save even the most ill or grievously wounded wretch out of compassion and true gratitude. One of the more....social gods among mortals.

Guess what last Hunter, final friend, soul spinner and red hands think of dragons!

Anyways, I will list the other gods Baslin/ you could...name? but their are lesser/ more obscure gods, who are sometimes mere servants, companions or children of the more...prevalent gods
>>
>>3254174
the gods of life and death, and the humanity one probably hate dragons guts am I right?

now I want to fly with Wind-Keeper so she doesn't feel that alone, flying sounds nice.

are all the gods still mad at us because of that.....misunderstanding (war)..... our ancestors had that resulted on dragons not getting new souls?
>>
>>3254174
>Guess what last Hunter, final friend, soul spinner and red hands think of dragons!
My bets are
Last Hunter, probably doesn't care either way since we're all the same thing in her eyes.
Red Hands, is more or less a coin flip since it'll lie in the murderer's intent more than anything else.
Final-Friend, probably doesn't like dragons for the aforementioned attempts at trying to become more than what they should be.
Soul Spinner, probably still has a ounce of love left although that ounce has more than likely turned into hardened stone since the Dragons have highly likely forced her hand in cursing them with what they have now. I wouldn't be surprised if she actually left that loophole in the curse on purpose because of that ounce of love

Or it could just all be that they hate dragons with a passion lol.
Also Wind-Keeper is best waifu and should be treasured.
>>
>>3254190
I think Red hand is one that hates us the most probably, dragons are essentially robbing some of the greatest human souls to create more of them, and he is a unnoficial god of death, which what the dragons do is essentially rob souls from them before they can collect them.
>>
>>3254194
It's why I said it was a coin flip. Since the intent of the dragons is completely selfish in nature.

And it depends, on the god really. Some absolutely hate them, some pity them and their foolishness, some are just annoyed they're still around,. Other....just don't care.

Like Lovers Hart! He "loves" everyone and everything equally! any hole is a goal!

this theory of yours
>>
>>3254174
>Guess what last Hunter, final friend, soul spinner and red hands think of dragons!
I'm going to guess

Hunter hates dragon because they steal her prey for souls

Friend hates dragons because they steal those he would help get to the other side for souls

Red hates dragons because they are taking away his humans for souls

Spinner hates dragons because they're basically stealing her souls

And also because the very practice is insulting to the gods since the whole point of not having souls of their own was meant to punish the dragons and have them finally admit their hubris.

And yeah it is an insult to To the gods. the soul stealing is basically Just abig middle finger to the gods. Which is why malix’s name and all other dragons name are “not spoken by gods”

I'd think it would be in our best interest to do it the night before our first flight or whenever we get a chance to be by ourselves for a quick prayer.
And then once we're out of our crazy cat lady dragon mom's clutches We'll do a proper prayer and give thanks.

How much time did you spend on world building op, and is this quest the only project if yours to be set in this setting? Or are you making this all up on the fly?
>>
>>3254357
I ran a game in it for friends and have been building up on it, expanding on it and generally tweaking and just thinking about it between the months between then and now.

First quest I’ve set in it, been meaning to write some stuff set in it but I’ve just now broke out of a nasty writer’s block so. Yeah
>>
Hey OP have you thought about writing these ideas down into a book/ book series of some kind? It is a very interesting take on fantastical world building!

Oh certainly, in the process of telling myself stories of the world and the people within it I have thought about trying. Problem is, I have trouble choosing what to write !

Also I’ll continue this on wedsnday, in a new thread it i must, but here if I’m still able
>>
>>3254251
On one hand, I don't want mom to beat our ass if she catches us doing that kind of shit in her house, and if the sky god notices us then she's just as likely to try to hit us up with a curse or make our time in the sky awful. No idea if mom would actually notice if we someone got a boon or approval from the sky god, but what with her being an old dragon I'm leaning towards yes for her knowing.
On the other hand, I still don't mom to beat our ass black, silver and blue. Who knows how good her hearing is.

>Coin snatcher, Goddess of wealth, good fortune and thieving. Baslin actually does not know of her well enough, and due to his non religiously raised/taught background, he mistook her for having domain over bad luck as well.
On another note Baslin didn't worship the gods before so I don't see why he would now? Especially with a mother who doesn't like the gods.

>>3254268
Give thanks for what precisely?

>>3256414
We still gonna tell mom dragon that we were the one to send the wizard away because we wanted time alone?
>>
>>3256431
Of course, if you still wish to. How you word it is the most important part of it. As there is a difference to sounding pragmatic and sounding pitying or grief stricken

And dragons in general “dislike” gods. Which is why none have roosted in Tolia yet.
>>
>>3256445
EZPZ? We were tired of his tirade of praising and wanted time to examine our new body and learn the basics. Not sure if mom would literally take a pound of flesh from the guy, but if she did that would be rather impractical.
>>
>>3256431
>Give thanks for what precisely?
I was just tossing out ideas for Anon to work with. Nothing more.
>>
>>3256431
Not exacly give thanks, but the qm stated that she doesn't like intruders in the sky, it's more a knocking before opening the door, she must alredy be a bit mad that we are dragons, don't need to make it worse and have wind currents making our flight difficult wherever we go.
>>
>>3256445
Roosting in Tolia once we are of age seems like a good idea, not much competition and an entire country ready to influence, of course, there's a god around but hey, there are several others elsewhere too.

Sleep, sleep escapes you despite the weariness that has come with your new life, and seeped into every bone and vein you have. Or at least you wish it had, as you had began to drift and float back into the land of the dreams despite your efforts to stay in the waking world, to guard your sister and learn about your new mother, outside of her smothering first impressions. Should have expected it really, considering men can find sleep even the day before they head out to their deaths or in battle itself, surrounded by red-hand's chorus and last-hunter's howl. Yes, you've slept dreamlessly for....how long? You cannot possibly tell, the only differences you've noticed is your new sister slowly curling around you for extra warmth or by simply turning in her own sleep, that she has thankfully found her own rest. Once more, an uneasy, uncertain feeling washes through the air along with the crackling heat that seems to flow from your mother's own body. "Malix'althari'del, she's going to make me refer to that mouthful or as mama isn't she? Not as hard to recall as some lords lists of titles" you realize as you raise your head into the faded darkness around you, half expecting to see her blazing eyes still watching you as a maiden watches new born kittens, but instead, what lies in front of your eyes is a different sight. Namely, sometime while sleeping, you've been moved to a different part of the armory turned treasury, and there are a few other "nests" laid about between Mother's tail and forelimbs, at least two more by what you can see in the gloom. And more importantly, that mad man, who is apparently called Vilith, dressed in the same attire he greeted you when you were still dying, kneeling as if in prayer upon a path leading out of the mass of wealth you've been resting within. And mother, with the brighter lighting, you can see her snake and almost vulpine face in better light, it has somewhat lighter purple scales than the rest of her, with a row of spiked protrusions along her brow, horns that curl like a rams, and hanging dark hair like that of one of the mourning willows...which is, something you have not seen in any renditions of dragons upon artwork or heraldry. Odd isn't it?

"I...I offer my most sincere remorse and despair for my failings, my amethyst lady" tyhe old fool says in reverence, raising both hands up towards your mother's face, as you remember vaguely the words she spoke to you before exhaustion took you and your heart stops for a few moments, expecting to see the old moon fellow to be suddenly missing both limbs.

"And? how does that repay the cold my poor children felt? the hunger they are still no doubt suffering. Words carry only so much worth, my dear servant" Mother says in a low growl, casting the old man in shadow as she leans towards him "A mistake, is a mistake even if its is an accident, and so is a wrong done to me and my blood. You have only offered excuses, not reasons"

The man may be mad, and a generally disrespectful annoyance with no respect for the honored dead, but do the mad really deserve such suffering? Does he deserve the horrors she no doubts is planning for him as you watch on? He treated you kindly did he not? surely thou he is smothering and flippant, but that does not mean he needs to be tortured. What kind of person would you be if you stood idly by and repaid is care and warmth with a cold, detached cruelty? You must do something. But mother seems to look down on compassion, and thankless kindness, so you must...word this properly to avoid being scolded or perhaps worse. Though you doubt she'd go as far as to hurt her "beloved children".

Taking a deep, smoke flavored breath, you stand and manage to lift your wings a bit higher, and untangle your tongue as instinctive dread tries to steal your voice from you and twist your words.

"Drr...Dearg.Dearest and Most Rrrrespected!" You manage to speak loudly and clearly with barely any growling "Mrah, MOTHER. I AaVOIDED HIM TO LEARRGHN ON MY OWN"

With all the force and and suddenness of a summer storm, mother turns to face you, eyes wide in surprise or perhaps annoyance, hard to tell with their burning appearance. Vilith also turns his head to look at you, with a knife already upon his own wrist

"Sweetling" Your mother coos happily "Why? would you toil when one would so freely serve you?"

You snort, putting all the airs of an officer and noble, bastard born you may be. turning your nose to them you pretend to preen yourself as if you aren't faced with a terror from before the slaying of the elk who is also your mother, which is something you must become accustomed and used to.

"His smothering was tiresome you see" You sigh haughtily, turning an eye to look at mother and her madman as you bury your snout in your wing "And words are praises are...worth only so much"

A smile spreads upon her serpentine lips, revealing a dreadful forest of serrated fangs, all perfectly aligned with the others unlike Juliana's. Blazing eyes narrow as she shifts her body, allowing more light upon you. Before She laughs, a strangly sweet laugh for someone who had just so freely and happily spoke of maiming a loyal retainer. A laugh, you recall your own father laughing when around your trueborn siblings but never for you. A loving, warm and content laugh of a mother, in this case.

"That is true, even praises get tiresome after a spell" She says turning away from you, watching you all the while "And I did say just that not long before, so what impression would I make to so quickly ignore such words. Very well, it seems My child is feeling merciful towards you today, Vilith, Now go, and find them some other food, besides RABBITS"

"At once my lady" Vilith says, bowing with a flourish as he turns to you, his masked face betraying none of his emotions

"Your wisdom, grace and kindness are unparalleled upon this world, I shall endeavor to bring them only they finest meat and sweet fruits"

Mother chuckles, laying back down as vilith marches away out of view.

Question: how does the karma system work?
>>
>>3258967
Well, besides being able to burn points to avoid nastiness or gain benefits, or spend it in similar ways (and modifying some rolls) , it also effects your general outlook on the world and going high enough into the positives or negatives unlocks magic, abilities or traits you couldn't get otherwise

anyways, writing
>>

I imagine, based on mother's behavior, that high karma dragons are the rarest thing around.
>>
"Do no frrrret, I will Nnnot force your hand" You says sweetly as your mother's eyes slowly drift towards you as she lays her head to the ground "I am Srra...sure I can tolerate Vilith"

She looks a little disappointed but nods in acknowledgement.

"The fool will do well to teach all of you the basics" She says dully as she slowly closes her eyes "if he grows too troublesome, I will simply begin teaching you myself earlier...though I am still exhausted, it'd be a small sacrifice I'd except to see repaid someday"
She snorts and chuckles, so that must've been a joke for a dragon, you don't find the humor in it but you think you can see it in her eyes. Hopefully that wasn't a serious statement, judging from how she's acted so far, it could be either honestly. But you can worry about that at a later date, you're awake and can't make your own food as no doubt mother would enter a rage if you left the safety of the den in your current state. However, besides your sister curled at your side, half hidden beneath your wings, you have yet to meet your other siblings! and that simply cannot do, not only is it rude, but its also bothersome to leave such gnawing curiosity unfulfilled, at least for yourself.

Standing up, careful not to rouse Juliana as she has a rather fitful dream judging from her sudden twitchy movements, you, with much steadier legs than before, begin to march up to the closest figure in the gloom. And can't help but to notice the feeling of being watched, no doubt mother keeping an eye on you in case you wander to far or manage to hurt yourself somehow. Still Overwrought over you and your siblings, it seems. Well, it is oddly comforting , as it is disturbing if only because of that primal instinct of fear you're trying your best to ignore.

One of the shadows in the gloom lifts up their head to observe you, another appears to simply be sleeping nearby in a pile of shredded finery, and another is drawing their tail carefully across a few burning embers. The first, appears somewhat like a thin dog, the second...looks as stocky as a bull, and the third smaller than the other two, and seems to share your own feline grace...but not a lions, more shaped like a housecat, sleeker in a way.

Clearing your soot covered throat, trying to ignore the growing pangs of hunger you feel as you try to your best to march with dignity with your drooping wings, trying to wear them like the cloak you used to wear proudly as you make up your mind to approach and try to introduce yourself to one of your siblings, hoping that they, like Juliana were one of your legionnaires who were spared Last-hunters gripping and tearing jaws. And even if they aren't it would still be rude to not get to know them, you share blood now after all, its only proper to know them by name if not by heart. One has already looked your way, so it'd be most impolite to ignore them for one of the others, and most rude indeed to wake the sleeper. So they'll be the first. Oh how exciting! will they be energetic and carefree as your sister seems to be? more like you? or entirely different? Its a strange kind of joy, wondering what you're fellow will be like, like seeing a newborn brother and wondering what sort of man he'll be. So, with a grin upon your lips, letting your wings hang like your cloak, you march up to the wolf like one, who has your mother's ram like horns it seems. They keep watching you, keeping their head down upon their choice of bedding, in this case a mass of silken pillows and a odd bottle of what looks like, Hearthheart made wine? Oh my! now that is a delicacy. An...odd one, tastes of sweetened blood, like all hearthearts do taste, but still not an unpleasant taste. Your ram horned sibling looks up at you, with an oddly spined tail and soot upon his blackened scales, his eyes are golden, and have an odd shine to them.

"Greetings, and good morn, I am Baslin, your new brother and" You say keeping your head up as the ram horned whelpling laughs and cold laugh

"Oh, you" He says with the haughtiness of a noble "should've known from the way you walked, oh general. it is...a surprise to see you, have you lost weight"

"Ah, the southsend" You say, wondering how he learned to speak as well as you did "You've found your tongue well, wineson"

"Tch, it wouldn't do to deprive this world of my voice for so long" he says as smugly as he can "And it seems being given a new lease on life hasn't removed the rod from your back"

"Death does not change much, it'd seem" You say, slowly as he does as each of you take time to make sure every word is spoken correctly, and not as a hiss or growl, the entire conversation taking minutes when it would take seconds "Surprised you survived to join me, you took a nasty strike to the head"

"Death wouldn't claim one as charming as myself, she'd become drunk of all the wine I've soaked up....but, you're a lot more...happy sounding now, like a child" He says with a chuckle "Maybe I was wrong, and you've decided to be a boy again"

"A new life, why not try to enjoy it as such?" You ask with a snort, as he rolls onto his back out of boredom from you pausing to readjust your tongue and make sure your throat is clear

"Gods have no business among dragons, brother" You say, remembering the choice of words mother used and drawing to this somewhat saddening conclusion

"Hmm, they never had business with me anyways" He says bluntly, swinging his spiked covered tail, almost like a cat would flick it "They're such tiresome things anyways, it was just a matter of speech"

"Hm, I am not of the religious sort either" You say taking a breath in and pausing to adjust to speak clearly "though, perhaps you shouldn't worry about such things as I must"

"What argh yeerruuu blabbering aboought?" he says quickly, mangling his words in annoyance, with a slight smirk upon his lips

"Why, dear brother, who's name escapes me, you resemble a cat more than a proper dragon" You chuckle as you lean closer, grinning as you adjust your wings and carefully swing your bladed tail "Lazing as you are"

there's a brief, tense pause before he throws his head back and barks with laughter, pride forgotten

"Well, as much as i'd like to argue that, it is so very true" he giggles, smacking his tail up and down upon some very unfortunate pillows "perhaps we'll get along as well in this life as good wine and beautiful women go together"

"Perhaps, siblings should strive for such things" You say, holding your head hey to try and hide your happiness of having a brother as well as sister who treat you without barely hidden disdain "I am glad you've adjusted as easily as myself, we'll have to talk more about the past later"

"Please don't, it is called that for a reason" He yawns, as you leave him "now, I shall dream unless you require my presence or wish to enjoy it more"

And so you leave him to that, and approach the cat like sibling who is sitting away from the others, distantly. They suddenly turn to face you, eyes narrowed and suspicious as they tap claws upon the coins in front of them, rattling them as they lower themselves further. Now they are simply two red eyes buried beneath gold.

man, poor Baslin is having a blast, always shunned by his brothers and sisters and now he has 4! 4! new siblings that he can call his own and that he can share love and talk.

If they are afraid of belonging to our former enemy, they should worry not about that, that damn useless conflict about a wineyard we never set our eyes upon meant little then and means even less now that we are reborn as siblings, all it accomplished was extinguish many young and promising flames and and give us a new chance at life.

Well, that is not an unexpected response, considering your somewhat intimidating visage. However, while Juliana was harmless in her fear, as tangled and panicking as she was, this is more the fear of cornered beast or warrior back themselves up towards a corner to keep their back covered rather than through lack of avenues of escape. You've seen this same behavior both in man and nature, its a dangerous reaction, and in your current state, you shouldn't so boldly approach, this one will require a gentler, more cautious approach.

So lowering your head, you try to copy or at least imitate mother's purring noise to show you're not a threat, moving your wings to let them droop in a more welcoming, disarming way, letting your tail slack so its blade isn't in the air and swishing around like a rogue's knife.

The eyes just widen in confusion, the tapping slows as your hesitant sibling watches you like you're the strangest thing you've ever seen, which you'd argue would be your sister but maybe she hasn't seen that dancing flag with legs you've been blessed to watch over.

"Should a kindly brother be so feared?" You ask softly, slowly as you take a testing step towards this sibling , who raises up their speckled bone white and green hide, two small black horns sitting upon their brow with smaller ones running down to her neck and besides their cheeks, which is in fact cat like in shape, akin to yours. Though their eyes are drooping and tired looking, and their fangs are viper like, and their wings are....small, very much unlike yours or even those of your sister and brother. In fact, the largest part of them are their claws, wicked curved things.

"Waught?" they say, struggling to speak, guess they haven't figured out how to fold their tongues and cheeks yet

"I mean no harm, all I want is to know you" You say as you tilt your head to hear their cold, cracking voice again, sounds soft...another sister? were you so blind? no couldn't be. this one also shows no recognition of you? a former enemy, perhaps?

They let out a low whining growl, obviously more confused than the wineson, or yourself.

How to approach this
[] reassure them any past enmities have faded with our old lives
[]You....are not a legionnaire are you?
[] Explain your view on the current affair of things, namely the whole matter of having siblings
[] leave them be for now
[] simply sit close by an offer conversation and or advice to see if you can earn this ones trust, if only slightly
[] rust the coins around them to deprive them of their hiding place, on accident of course
[] write in

Offer to answer whatever questions she may have, she is probably confused.

>>3259221
Maybe she is a victim of some of the less virtuous legionnaires, it's not uncommon to hear stories about fighting men taking advantage upon the population.
>>
>>3259210
Sit by and give the sibling chance to formulate their thoughts.
Study their visage for hints regarding their origin.

No, legionnaires have a certain holding to them, a certain pride and air that hangs around their every action like a perfume or smoke at a festive night. This, girl? you must assume she is one, doesn't have that....feeling, proper men of blade and armor wear as easily and constantly as their arms and uniforms. Even Juliana had a bit of it, hidden beneath her fount and flow of energy and excitment. This one simply has none of that...feeling as it were. its odd to think about, strange to imagine but...its something that men like you must notice, to figure out who can be trusted to lead charges, hold lines and other such key duties. You think if this one ever held a shield wall, they'd break as easily as dry tinder. That's the feeling you get when you meet their eyes for a spell, and observe, its the air they put off. an uncertain one, a nervous one.

So you sit down and sigh, raising your head and apparently dashing horns into the air with a soft frown.

"Yoarg...y..you" You say, trying to speak clearly despite the shock you've received just now "you are not a legionnaire are you?"

they try to speak for a moment, fumbling with their tongue more than Juliana was, really you feel sorry for this poor thing. warriors and fighting men are used to surprises and fears, but the common folk? not nearly as much. its a curiosity that Vilith picked this poor girl up with the rest of you, assuming the sleeping bull is who you think it is. After struggling for awhile, they just shake their head no and your heart aches for the men you led to death and another sibling who will not take to their new life well, you imagine. In fact Juliana may have an easier time than this one.

"Well then....if you wish to speak easier, talk slow at first, focus on your tongue and cheeks" You say softly as you sit in front of their small "lair" waiting for them to respond as they keep watching you, thin tail flicking in the air "....who were you....before I mean?"

No response besides a low grumbling growl

"L...look I don't know...what happened to ma..to make you so" You say trying to step around your urge to speak to them like you would a fleeing soldier, reminding yourself they are no warrior and thus have an untrained, weak heart, especially when talking to what must seem like a terror straight from nightmares :"It isn't...the..the benefits out...if you think about...Haaaarggaah!, look, I do not know what led you here, but I assure you I am no beast, I simply wish to"

they slowly peek out of their hiding hole, eyes slightly wider as they watch you carefully, cautiously as you try to think on what to say to them to calm them down or at least get your point across to them.

"Know my siblings, and have them know me as dear friend and trusted brother" You say, lowering yourself closer to them as they crawl a bit closer to you "I know this is all new and terrifying, despite how I hold myself, I feel that way as well, but whatever we were before, whoever we were, we are of the same blood now. Family. And though it may be unusual among our new kin"

"Mmrrrrhrrrm?" they say almost purring as you smile wider

"I simply want to help you, I promise and swear upon it in fact" You say quietly, in case mother hears you "For that is my nature, and that will not change because I have"

"....Yeeer, face dougsn't match...yeeer voice" They says softly "....thank...yough, the other didn't...try to heeelp"

"So, if you were not of the legions" You say, managing to finish the sentence to the point you merely sounded tired rather than struggling to remember how to speak "Who...were you?"

they frown, flicking their tongue in and out of their mouths trying to control it properly, you suspect. You wait patiently, thinking that maybe you should ask this question later when she's more adjusted and has calmed a bit. Like with Juliana, who you'll need to get back to before she wakes up, considering the terror that had stricken her before.

Finally, after a long pause and series of hisses and gurgled growls, she manages to answer you with a simple reply "J..just ah, wandering...priestess, nothing more"
Smiling now, you think about asking her name and open your mouth but she flinches away as you do so.

"Ah, well that can wait I suppose, names mean little now it seems" You say bitterly as you stand "I'll leave you alone, for now, to come to terms with this in your own time"

"Now, all that's left is to talk to the sleeper, wake him if he doesn't on his own accord and then I'll be able to think about breakfast....breakfast with family, what an odd thing to look forward to. How strangely delightful and" You think before you hear the loud thud of a door opening and something meaty hitting the cold stone ground.

This, leads to a chain of various reactions. Namely, your second sister scurrying back under her coins, the southsend shrieking in annoyance at the noise the former made, which in turn wakes up the golden scaled stocky brother in front of you, who might have slept through his birth judging from his reaction which is to let out a great and mighty roar which....unfortunately wakes up Juliana.

"HAAAAAAAAAALPH!" She cries out as your mother groans and tries to cover here ears "BAZ!"

"Ah, my young lords are all awake! I found more worthy meat for you all! please take your time" Vilith says happily "For tommorrow, you shall have your first lesson and lecture as...dictated to me by your mother"

And then all is drowned out with a foundation shaking roar, from, your no doubt exhausted mother.

And then a quiet "Halph" from somewhere in the now dust and smoke filled haze that fills the room, as you see Juliana's shadow bounding around in search of you.

and we'll end here for now, next session will be in a new thread I imagine. Sorry for the shorter session today, but I feel this is a good place to top off the thread with

Thanks for Running HM
Juliana and her "Haaaalp" is just great
I feel like the gold bull is going to be in trouble for yelling loud enough to wake up mother dearest
>>
>>3259391
I'm enjoying the small moments with the siblings. It really does add a sense of warmth to this quest.
I am curious as to what beginner lessons our Krazy-Cat-Lady-Dragon-Mom has in store for us.
>>
Too soon to have a favourite and haven’t come to interact with the soldier boi yet. But I’m already fond of all of them.

We need to coach Juliana to be more self reliant and ask for Haaalph less often, and warn the priestess to keep her faith to herself around momma. I kinda see Baslin (how do dragons get new names? From their mothers or they come up with them for themselves?) taking it upon himself to organize his siblings to spare them of mothers mood swings
>>
>>3259427
They get their names when their mothers think they deserve them.
>>
>>3259442
Does this mean that there's a Dragon out there who's name in the ancient tongue of the Dragons is "Dammit"?

>>3259445

>>
>>3259391
Love Juliana until now, but I liked the other two too, I think we will try our best to make them safe from mother at the same time we help them grow.
This is the chance for our MC to have an actual family and I see him very happy in interacting and caring for his siblings, taking the older brother role to the fullest

I’ll post it tommorrow when I see what days I have off, on my Twitter and In this thread if it’s still up. Of course I could just run before I go to work. In which case it’s a toss up between Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
