The year is 1990 and the monolithic Umbrella Corporation has unveiled a new initiative to the public, a pet project of its board of directors. Called the Darwin Initiative, Umbrella plans to open a series of new laboratories and research facilities throughout the globe, each with only a limited amount of funding and oversight, and a goal of competing with each other to research and develop the scientific and military advances of the future. Competition breeds success after all. Each laboratory will be outfitted with a primarily new staff and director, and are given only enough funding to keep operational at the discretion of Umbrella, but with a significant portion of the profits from their creations and inventions funneled directly into their budget. Umbrella hopes that this kind of direct, competitive environment will prove the greatest results both for their company and for their plans as a whole.

You are a the director of one of these brand new Darwin Initiative Laboratories, established to experiment and develop BOW’s and other civilian or military products in a competitive environment with cursory oversight. You are given a significant amount of freedom, but also only a bare minimum of guaranteed corporate support. It will be up to you to develop products to supplement your funding, secure your facilities, protect against corporate espionage, and eventually fully establish your new laboratory at the forefront of Umbrella’s research divisions. But first, what kind of laboratory do you want to be?
>>
>>3017028
>[]Pharmaceutical and Medical
Easiest to market results: Pills and medical equipment looks pretty benign.
Higher starting CHEM and BIO, lower starting PHYS and MECH.
Generates goodwill easier with consistently working inventions, especially from civilians.
Bonus to experimentation with Virus-type Agents.
Not as immediately profitable, due to regulations on sales.

>[]Civic Works
Highest paying projects, funding is massive.
Higher starting ENG and MECH, lower starting BIO and PHYS.
Generates goodwill easier upon completion of projects, but not during.
Bonus to construction and securing Agents and Experiments.
Lots of direct interaction with non-Umbrella people, makes it difficult to hide things

>[]Weapons Development
Niche market, but high paying clients.
Higher starting MECH and PHYS, lower starting CHEM and ENG.
Generates less goodwill from civilians, but more from non-civilians.
Bonuses to Augmenting Agents/Organisms.
Higher risk of espionage and sabotage, both from rival companies and nations.

>[]Biological Engineering
More difficult to market products, but still very profitable.
Higher starting BIO and PHYS, lower MECH and ENG.
Slower generation of goodwill, but will generate lots from high-profile clients.
Bonuses to experimentation with Parasite-type Agents.
Umbrella higher ups love it, generating more Umbrella Approval.

>[]Energies Research
Very difficult to market, but worth much scientifically.
Higher starting PHYS and CHEM, lower starting MECH and BIO.
Civilians have very little effect on goodwill since they don’t really understand what you’re doing. Non-civilians generate at a regular rate.
Bonuses to experimentation with Nonstandard-type Agents.
Requires much less space for regular experimentation.

As a note to the mechanics, here's your general stats. You'll be starting with 25 in each primary stat as a base. Dice rolls are d100s, trying to roll under the target number.

Primary Stats:
>CHEM:
Your lab’s aptitude at chemistry.Used for any chemical or pharmaceutical creations and interactions, such as vaccines, serums, synthetic materials, and medicine.
>ENG:
Your lab’s aptitude at engineering.Used for any non-mechanics-based engineering creations and interactions, such as infrastructure, construction,
>BIO:
Your lab’s aptitude at biology. Used for biologic creations and interactions, such as synthetic organs, engineered species, bioengineering, and surgery.
>MECH:
Your lab’s aptitude at mechanical engineering. Used for robotics and weaponry creations and interactions, such as turrets, firearms, automated facilities, and cybernetics.
>PHYS:
Your labs aptitude at physical sciences. Used for nonstandard experimentation and interactions, such as particle and waveform research, energy manipulation, and understanding exactly how things work.

Secondary Stats:
>Staff:
Split into several substats (Scientists, Security Members, etc) this represents how much manpower you have to devote to a project. The more you put in, the faster or easier projects get done.
>Funding:
How much dosh you have. Funding is the pool of points required to keep things operating, and each piece of infrastructure you have takes up part of your funding cap. You also spend funding on actions like researching, acquiring new specimens, espionage and counter-espionage, and bribery.
>Goodwill:
How much favor you’ve generated in the community and at large with the rest of the world for your actions. The more of this you have, the more it works towards raising your profits, helping people accept your new creations, and lowering Suspicion.
>Suspicion:
How much people suspect there’s something weird happening at your facility. Goes up whenever something causes the details of your experiments or creations to reach the public. The more suspicion, the more you’ll have to deal with civilians trying to figure out what’s going on.
>Umbrella Approval:
How much Umbrella supports your work and believes in what you’re doing. The more of this there is, the more resources you can call on Umbrella for and the more de-facto funding and support you have from your parent company.

Biological Engineering it is! Your newfound laboratory has chosen a specialty, granting a +15 to BIO and PHYS, but a -10 to MECH and ENG. As a note, this doesn't actually preclude you from doing civics works projects, it just means that's not your main focus and its not the kind of thing that you might get hired for on a regular basis. You'll start with 10 Scientists, 3 Security, and 3 Interns. Interns don't add much on their own to things they work on, but after a few turns can specialize into any other type of staff member.

However, your specialty is only part of your new laboratory. What is equally as important is your location! Where do you want Umbrella to set you up?

>[]USA (The Arklay Mountains)
>Pros
Mountainous: Easier to build underground facilities.
Established: Near enough to major population center Racoon City and the Umbrella Pharmaceuticals branch there that if you need help or people, it's easy to find.
Unlocks access to: T-Virus Samples.
>Cons
Greater Oversight: Being so close to a main Umbrella location means that even if they're nominally not supposed to, they'll be keeping an eye on you for anything amiss.
Mountainous: Difficult to transport things in and out of the mountains, few roads.

>[]USA (Dulvey County)
>Pros:
Backwater: Civilians impact goodwill less negatively, as they're few and far between.
Abundant: The surrounding bayou and coast are filled with wildlife, making finding experimental subjects much easier.
Unlocks access to: Mutamycete Samples
>Cons
Leery: The locals are naturally highly suspicious.
Remote: A smaller capacity for staff, due to a lack of nearby housing.

>[]Europe (Rural Spain)
>Pros:
Self-Contained: Civilians keep to themselves, raising suspicion much less.
Empty Woods: You have lots of space to expand and build without contest.
Unlocks Access to: Las Plagas Fossil
>Cons
Rural: More difficult to get Scientists and educated workers.
Illuminated Stirrings: Attracted the attention of a local religious group, watching your actions curiously.

>Continued in next post.
>>
>[]Africa (Kijuju)
>Pros:
Easy Access: Between shipping and nearby cities, you have access to a higher number of staff and options for obtaining resources.
Grey Markets: There are a lot of nearby countries, armies, and groups that will buy things no questions asked.
Unlocks Access to: Uroboros Sample
>Cons
Unstable: Nearby hostilities between warlike nations could spill over onto you.
Regime Change: Politics are capricious at best, meaning that the people you've bribed or made a rapport with could be overthrown any day.

>[]China (Lianshiang)
>Pros
Cosmopolitan: Near a huge population center and with lots of options for hiring all manner of qualified staff.
Astride the River: Easily able to acquire resources and items thanks to the city's shipping industry.
Unlocks Access to: Chrysalis Fragment
>Cons:
Crowded: Very little room to expand facilities with ease, and lots of potential casualties in the event of a problem.
Image and Marketing: Faster Growth/Decay of goodwill and suspicion, due to the population.

>[]Pacific Ocean (Kermadec Trench)
>Pros
Private Island: Lots of space to build as you wish, both for housing and facilities.
Everyone Knows Everyone: Much harder for espionage and sabotage actions to work against you, due to remoteness.
Unlocks Access to: Abyss-infected Fish
>Cons
Isolated: Much harder to get new staff, due to remoteness.
Storm Warning: Tropical storms and other weather can interfere with experiments and damage facilities.

I'm in favor of Africa to be honest. If we keep a tight hold and consolidate power we will be able to form a strongpoint that will hopefully alleviate our cons.
>>

it'll be interesting at least, and as long as we make our laboratory-fortress formidable we might be able to become a major local power to boot with the stability we can offer.

Well then, It looks like you've been set up in the Kijuju Autonomous Zone, a West African country. The native language is Swahili, the people are surrounded by all manner of civil conflicts, and your team of sixteen has been dropped right into the mess. You'd call it a joke, if you couldn't see the raw opportunity ahead of you in this war-torn place.

Speaking of which however, who are you?

>Pick a name, age, and gender, as well as physical appearance.
Keep in mind that you're established enough in Umbrella to be getting your own new experimental laboratory, so you're probably on the older end, barring strange circumstances. However deep you want to get into this is your choice.

>Choose a specialty.
Pick a primary stat for you to specialize in. Actions which you work on directly will get an additional +20, so long as they correspond with that stat.

>Choose a goal
Choose an underlying focus of your character. What drives them? What has set them on this path?

>The Visionary
You have a dream. A quest. Something within you calls out to show the world your brilliance, to create something that proclaims to the universe that you have made it, and that you are unlike all the rest of the squabbling masses because of it. You will not rest until the world itself sees your brilliance, and bows before the force of your ideal.

>The Humanitarian
You want to make the world better. You’ve seen the horrors that humanity enacts, that nature causes, and that the world seems to let by and you’ve had enough of it. If nature won’t give you a solution, you’ll make one, and you’ll make the world a better place even if you have to drag it there kicking and screaming.

>The Conqueror
More than anything in this world, you desire. You desire what others have, you covet what lies outside your grasp, your endless hunger simmering beneath the surface. On your own, you don’t have the strength to take what you so desire but you aren’t alone and you have the power to extend your grasp. With your work, you won’t stop until it all lies beneath your reach.

>The Perfectionist
You want to be better. As you are, you are weak. Falliable. Mortal. Trapped in a decaying prison only to last a meager handful of years, unable to realize the endless dreams you carry. If there is but one goal in your life, it is to make it so that you no longer have to worry about a limit to any of your goals at all.

>The Experimentalist
The world is a magical place, filled with so many strange and marvelous things, and you want to see them all. You don’t care about the purpose, the reasoning, the why, so much as you do the sheer visceral joy in finding or creating a new experience, a new existence, a new being. The world is nothing but an endless procession of dominoes, and you are eager to see what results you can cause next.

Dr. Vlad Haddox- the 3rd son of a slavic immigrant family in the U.S. He pursued theology and became a priest of the Eastern Orthodox Church, until he experienced a loss of faith after being told to be quiet with some church dirty business. >The Humanitarian Conqueror
We were an idealistic scientist, once. College made us weak, overly-focused on academic achievements and blind to the true powers that powered scientific progress.
All that changed when we were assigned to a post in Mbuji-Mayi, even then a major civilian centre in the mess that was Congo.

The civil conflicts over the rare resources that the accursed heatlands of the failed state did not leave you without scars, but it made you stronger. You now know that some people will not be open to benign, civilised intervention - you need force to back up your goodwill, force that is not available to a simple scientist working in a staff of similarly soft-hearted babies. You will make these denizens of the Dark Continent become human, whether they like it or not.

It's more that you're technically an umbrella subsidiary, and as such can have your own entire name and corporate identity. Vlad could be....idk the 'face' of the business while also part of the sciency stuff. He could be the go between person for Umbrella main branch and this lab since he's worked there a while? Or the person who deals with clients (who may be a bit leery of leaving 'delicate' business like this in the hands of a relatively young woman.)
>>
>>3017249
I won't guarantee anything, but the rest of the characters are definitely going to be available options for Specialists, once you make the effort to recruit them. Specialist units are ones who, like you, give bonuses towards research and projects that tie in with their respective specialties.

>May 11th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa.
The car had picked you up from the KAZ airport in Mawingu while it was still dark, a sleek thing out of place on the dusty and often dangerous roads of the Kijuju Autonomous Zone. You suppose it was Umbrella's way of showing their power, but you couldn't care less. Your focus instead was on the file in your bag, the piece of paper proclaiming you the new director of the first of the Darwin Initiative laboratories. Your ambition hadn't gone unnoticed, and now it seems that Umbrella wants to put it and you to the test. Flicking through the pages, you go over the intentionally bare-bones facility you've been given. It's a reclaimed prison facility, a small one originally used by an older and now defunct Kijuju regime to house political prisoners. As it stands, it's squat, defensible, and filled with ample space for you to retrofit it into whatever you need. The current beleaguered government wasn't using it anyway.

You've been given a team of sixteen to start your new laboratory, and you familiarize yourselves with their dossiers while mulling over possible names for your new facility. You have ten scientists, all qualified though not outstanding, and three eager young interns. Additionally, you have three members of security staff, something you think you might have increase in the future given the ever-encroaching crawl of the Royal Imperial Kijuju Army, a political insurrectionist group supporting the currently ousted former dictator. For any construction, you'll have to settle for hiring locals on a temporary basis until you can muster the funds to get permanent contractors who you can trust to keep secrets.

As the car pulls up in front of your new facility, your eyes flick down to your bag, noting the other, far more dangerous cargo you carry. When you touched down at the airport, you had been met by a man from umbrella with blonde hair and black sunglasses, who had congratulated you on the chance of a lifetime you'd been given. He had handed you a small vial, hermetically sealed with a coiled, black mass inside "To keep things interesting." he had said. Pah, as if you needed help.

The car pulls up to the new facility, and you go to greet your new employees and get to work.

>Actions
Actions are divided by weeks. Unless stated otherwise, each turn is about a week of work.

>You have yourself, 10 Scientists, 3 Security, and 3 Interns.
Choose actions. Each scientist/security guard you add to a project adds a +5 to the roll for progressing in that project. Interns add +3. More complicated projects will require more successful weeks of work, and may consume materials and resources.

>Unlocked Projects (can be done by any staff)
Contact Kijuju (Familiarize yourself with the local government and see what they might want)
Survey the Surroundings (Get a feel for the local area. May unlock new projects and research)
Ferment Inspiration (Spend 1 funds and roll to have one or more of your scientists spontaneously create or unlock a new piece of research.)

>Unlocked Research (can only be done by scientists, interns, or applicable specialists.)
Research the Uroboros Sample (Figure out what the strange man gave you.)
Survey the Fauna (Search the surrounding countryside for wildlife that might make good test subjects)
Survey the Flora (Search the surrounding countryside for plants that might make good test subjects)
Improve the Facility(Figure out what you need to make things better)

I'll be heading to sleep after posting this, will continue after I wake up. It'll be dice rolling to start it off.

I feel the same, to be honest. I saw the voting earlier but couldn't post because I was somewhat busy. Viktoria's backstory is basic bitch tier, to the point you could call it clichéd. The others are much more interesting. The premise is still interesting though, and it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a good story develop despite a lackluster lead character.

I'll be endeavoring to make Viktoria's backstory and character a little more nuanced than what she has to start. There's definitely stuff to work with there, it'll just take some effort to show. Heinrich is definitely going to show up as well, though if not as a recruitable Specialist, then as the head of a different branch of the Darwin Initiative, and therefore one of your direct competitors. Heinrich is definitely not going to be simply vanishing.

>>
>>3018225
Definitely! That's actually the kind of thing you'll be spending Umbrella Approval on. Approval is both what you'll roll against to requisition resources, new staff, and other such considerations for hire from Umbrella, but you can also spend it to purchase things directly.

>>3018237
We have not, though I have some ideas. Feel free to suggest some!

One last bit of bookkeeping before we get set up that I forgot to do last night.

>Survey the Surroundings (1 Scientist, 3 Security, 1 Intern)
Someone roll 1d100 for this. Each staff member adds a +5 (or +3 in the case of the intern), but to a specific event that would apply to their staff. Effectively this will end up being three rolls, one for Scientists, one for Security, and one for the Intern.

>Improve Facility (You, the remaining 9 scientists, locals)
Hiring the locals for this will cost you one Funding, but will guarantee completion within the turn. Otherwise it would be an ENG roll.
>>
Rolled 21, 49, 46 = 116 (3d100)

>>3018339
In order, scientist, security, staff. Unless you want seperate d100s with modifier for some reason.

>>
>>3018250
Possible disorders, CF, haemophilia, down's syndrome, or we can make up something original
>>
>>3018374
I had mentioned them up when explaining stats, but here's a more in depth look.

>DICE RULES
Dice are d100 rolls, with the goal being to roll under your stat. Assigning staff to a roll adds a bonus to it, raising the target number to roll under. Rolls will either have a stat assigned to roll under, or if they wouldn't apply to a stat at all like the non-directed Survey rolls, apply for each type of staff assigned.
Failure works on a scale based on how far it was from the target number. Within 20 from your target number and the failure is more of a complication. More than 20 from the target number and your failure is more severe.

Also just making sure, you're spending that funding on hiring civilian construction workers to finish this turn, right?
>>
>>3018389
>Also just making sure, you're spending that funding on hiring civilian construction workers to finish this turn, right?
Yes
Are you taking the 3d100 or the 3 1d100
>>
>>3018442
If I misunderstood the dice rolling, that's on me. He should take the separate rolls since they followed the rules proper.
>>
>>3018446
I decided just to use the first roll from that 3d100, which ended up being nice considering it was the best of the bunch.

>Turn 1 Results

>May 18th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa.
Your first week at your newly christened Maisha Foundation laboratory was both paradoxically busy and without progress. You spent your week setting up your new facility to your specifications, hiring teams of local contractors from Kijuju proper to help you retrofit the new building, install the generators and electricity, and set up your facilities. While you acknowledged the danger and potential security issues of letting in civilians into your new facility, the fact that your facility is currently empty of any actual research mollifies your concern. Directing your scientists and interns, you assemble your laboratories in record time. You should be ready and able to start working this coming week.
>Hiring the contractors cost 1 funding, but finished everything in record time.
>You have unlocked a total of 4 slots for research or projects. This is the space you have available in the facility as it currently is for specific projects and research opportunities.

However, your decision to send out your security staff alongside a scientist an an intern has paid great dividends. While heading out to survey the local area, your survey group ran across a militant gang heading out from Kijuju. After a tense first meeting, they identified themselves as a militia aimed with going out to strike against the RIKA forces further out in the KAZ, in retribution for attacks further out from Kijuju proper. While you parted on a relatively tense note, they would be potential buyers for some of your more combat or medical-based creations to help in their fight against the RIKA.
Additionally, your scientist found a local species of large-jawed bat living nearby that might make a good test subject, being large, hearty, and numerous. Your intern on the other hand found a strange looking flower that you think might have some kind of interesting stimulant properties, his conversation with the locals pointing to stories about how it was used in folklore to grant worthy warriors strength.
>Obtained contacts with the "Mkono wa Haki", an anti RIKA militia.

Survey the Flora target number is, for the same reasons above, 68.

Research the Red Flower is BIO + your own 20, giving a target number of 60.

>May 25th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
Sitting at your desk looking over your reports from your employees, you have to remark that while this week hasn't benefited your funds any, it has given you a lot more material to work with. Your team surveying the local fauna has managed to find two local plants with some significant traits that might be worth looking at, while your the team surveying fauna has come back with one. The group seemed excited about it though, so you figure it might be worth a look.
>Unlocked access to the Yatevo Tree, a local, vine-like tree that is purportedly carnivorous. Your survey team found several corpses near it, though actual evidence of its abilities is missing.
>Unlocked access to the Kijuju Protea, a beautiful blooming flower initial tests show to have strong analgesic and antiseptic qualities.
>Unlocked access to the Ngome Crocodile, a massive species dwelling in the swamps to the south of your base. Ngome Crocodiles huge, aggressive, and have a uniquely adapted thick, partially layered hide that acts as shockingly protective armor.
However, your week has been focused on a much more tantalizing and interesting subject: The red flower your intern brought back. Looking over the stories they gathered from the populace, you took to researching it yourself and found wonders. The flower naturally houses a form of non-carcinogenic mutagen virus, one that seems similar to some of the Tyrant Virus samples you've worked on at Umbrella. However, this virus seems more...mutable. Unfinished almost. If you could find more of these flowers, you might be able to push its mutations towards a specific goal. Maybe even...
Luka, your son, your only son, lying in that bed, color draining from him as blood filled his lungs, his eyes glazed over in pain, silently mouthing 'mama, mama'. He had cried so much. You could only sit there and do nothing as the cuts failed to heal and your own cursed blood caused him to lose his.
...well, maybe a lot of things.

How do you want to spend your next week?

At the moment, we have 4 Funds, with 0 allocated. Allocating funds simply takes up those funds to keep the research or project running, and is considered effectively "Cancelling out" whatever profit you might generate via costs. Spending Funds is more of a large, lump-sum cost like hiring the construction crew during week one.
>>
>>3018978
can we always research 4 things or could we also focus all research on 1 or 2 things ?
how many actions can we do with security and interns every week ?
>>
>>3018984
You can do as many actions as you wish with any staff members, but at the moment you only have enough space for four Research actions, some Project actions, or Testing actions (of which we have none yet) at a time. Expanding your facilities will give you more slots, though at the moment that is locked due to a lack of any actual income, as is hiring new staff.

You can focus research on as many things as you want, just keep in mind that it's a matter of more guaranteed success due to more staff working on it or a less guarantee on a much faster timeframe. Your security, while unable to help on research, will be able to help on more types of actions and projects later.

Regretfully, you had to put your research into the strange red flower on hold for the week, simply due to monentary concerns. For as much as you want to get back to it, making sure your laboratory is well funded and functional takes precedence. As such, you sent out some of your staff members to search for potential clients for commission-based work. After all, it's easier to work towards a solution than it is to grope blindly in the dark for progress. They were more than a bit successful, and managed to return with requests from three different groups to prove you have the capability before they think of opening up more lucrative relationships with you.
>Unlocked Client: Kijuju Autonomous Zone Democratically Elected Council, or KAZDEC, is the current governing body of the KAZ, after having overthrown the previous dictatorial government. Going off of their knowledge of you as an Umbrella subsidiary, they would like you to produce something to help with the significant amount of injured soldiers and civilians from RIKA attacks within their borders. They are willing to pay 2 Funds, with a 4 turn deadline.
>Unlocked Client: Mkono no Haki, the people's extralegal militia taking the fight to the RIKA, have asked for you to develop something to help their millitiamen against the better-trained and equipped RIKA soldiers. They are desperate enough that they will accept any kind of creation, so long as it aids them effectively. They are willing to pay 1 funds, with a 6 turn deadline.
>Unlocked Client: Royal Imperial Kijuju Army, the forces of the former dictator-in-exile, have asked you to create a pet for His Highness, as a gesture of your ability and fealty. Said pet must be lethal, well-trained, visually impressive, and able to fight on his behalf. They are willing to pay 5 funds, with a 10 turn deadline, but have hinted towards danger if you fail.
However, while your team was meeting with the locals, you and your scientists managed to find something far more interesting. The Kijuju Protea's analgesic properties are beyond what you imagined. While not able to heal wounds like the Arklay Mountain Herbs, the Protea instead allows for temporary disassociation of pain from impeding with mental action when imbibed, and its antiseptic qualities prevent infection in applied areas as well. It is a fantastic substance, and already you can see possible uses for it in your work and in the surrounding market. One of your interns even brought up the idea of potentially marketing it as a combat stimulant, considering the climate around here, and you can't say it didn't come to mind for you too.
>Unlocked Project: Protean Painkillers (CHEM based, creates a pill-based painkiller that doesn't interfere with mental faculties)

using domestical animals/plants from near villages in research is a problem/possible ?

if we can it would be really cheap and we can start using the Uroboros sample already, or just start experimenting with other things.
since we have take some contractors and other people, they count as auxiliaries right ?
how much it would cost to have more people ?
(prices for interns, scientists and guards)

for expanding the base/ the actual buildings/ or create new structures ?

is possible to have vehicles ? (civilian and military ones)

sending results and detailed reports back to Umbrella can give us founds, more people, equipment , vehicles ecc.... ?
>>
>>3019116
the painkillers are good for the KAZDEC request, we should make a base one to sell officially and send to Umbrella as well while holding back the potential for now.
As for Rika we could augment some dogs to be safe, as a show of goodwill on our side to have interest in working with them.
in general we shouldn't make BOWs without some sort of failsafe like at least a depandancy on something only we can synthesize

If I remember my RE lore right, from what we've found out during our basic research of it, there's a damn good chance that the Red Flower is the Progenitor Flower. We should probably top of research of that as soon as we can, since it's the basis of all the silly Umbrella viruses.

I also want to point out, that any BOW we create and give to the Mkono or RIKA, needs to have a failsafe in it that either lets us turn it off, or lets us control it.
I'm thinking Uroboros/Progenitor Hybrid Crocodile.

>Nothing saying we can't play all sides at once
It would require more research, but it'd be fun to combine the Protean Serum with a severely weakened strain of Uroboros that gives slightly enhanced stamina and strength for a short time.
Rig it up, so the more you use it, the more you become susceptible to a secondary control failsafe that would let us control the soldiers like we would with our BOWs.

Probably have to wait until we have a couple cleaner crews though, so we can discreetly dispose of anyone that overdoses and becomes an angry uncontrollable tentacle monster.
>>
>>3019475
Or we could tell the leadership about the side affects if they overdose

That would probably lead to them either not using the serum, or deliberately attempting to overdose their troops causing us to be flooded in angry uncontrollable tentacle monsters.

after that test on humans.

plus we can improve it. and our clients can accept the suggestion to let just a squad of soldiers use it for sometime.
--------

in the mean time the base need to be expanded (greater laboratorys, hospital, canteen,
homes for employees, orphanage, some big warehouses, dozens of towers on the perimeter, better roads, perhaps a small airport, more guards and contractors, more interns, numerous vehicles {such as helicopters, jeeps, camions, armored support, battle tanks, artillery .... and the list goes on just for don t appear weak}, minefields,
detection sensors and safety cameras, military radars, a fortified control room, a communication room, anti-air turrets ecc....
***then for outside we can offer to build a good road network near our base, perhaps
wells for neighboring villages.
even schools and better agricultural fields.
***here we can make us famous in all the world for being a really good company, if we create a video with some journalists on our base and the near villages.

it could backfire but i doubt we can shoot ourself on the foot if we do thinghs right from the start.

any ideas on how to do money alone ?

without clients or founds from umbrella.

perhaps offering basic medic treatment ? training recruits for some of the factions ? some drug plant/normal plants cultivation (cocaine ecc ?) ?
>>
>>3019514
Okay, so. Expanding the base is a good idea and all, however we run into one major problem: All that shit requires money.
To get money, we need product, to get product we need to research crazy ass serums and viruses.

We have access to an Uroboros Sample, a Progenitor Sample, A painkiller flower. a bat, a croc, and a carnivorous tree. Not to mention that, again, we are in africa where domestic animals and wild animals are far more expensive then human life. We can literally vanish a village for test subjects and nobody will care here.
Also, we're an Umbrella Researcher, if you want to do things ethical and polite join a different company.
>>
>>3019557
We do things unethically but its important that we appear ethical to everyone on the outside. Gotta keep that image.

Yeah, but there's no reason to start with livestock and wild animal testing when human lives are worth less then dirt.

Luckily we're in africa, our biggest ethical problems come from NGOs and shit.
>>
>>3019572
Well let's kidnap villages that are far enough away it doesn't look like us at least.

So at the very least someone wont think. Huh alot of villages around that new umbrella base are just disappearing. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.
>>
>>3019576
Oh yeah, totally.
>>
>>3019557
>Also, we're an Umbrella Researcher, if you want to do things ethical and polite join a different company.
There's a difference between wanting to do things ethical and polite, and shitting where we eat.
Ontop of things looking weird like people near the Umbrella lab disappearing, there's also the factor that we have no backup plans in place if shit goes wrong.
>>
>>3019592
Nobody said to shit where we eat though and we have no backup plans for anything we do. At this point, whatever we do will end up with us holding our dicks.

(For other idea for have founds a nuclear reactor, solar panels or wind turbines. That will give us even eletric autonomy. Maybe even set up Mines for good minerals ? Should we build underground at a certain point [for containement rooms ecc. ..] ?)
Now i think that for taking the human tests, there are five ways :

1
Offering to a faction the possibility to give a "new type" of punishment to political prisoners or criminals.

2
Requesting from a faction civilians for tests, and tell them to avoid to be suspected

3
Go ourself in taking them.

4
False flagging an infection in villages and take them.

5
Buy them from not the major factions : essentially from modern slaves merchants.

The solar panels will be a good idea since it's usually sunny in Africa about 90% of the time.
The mines might be a bit tricky to set up but it will be a good source of currency to have.

you know Africa is an entire continent with rainforests too, right?

Either way, stable electricity is not a given when in africa, which is a huge problem for their medicare.
We need to be energy autarkic and offer any abundance to the nearby populace, or at least the public infrastructure like the hospitals
while, yes, we can just turn generators off when we don't need more electricity it would not be efficient.

source: I'm an engineer
>>
>>3019687
Yes I am aware that Africa has rainforests as well. I'm just pointing that Solar Panels can be a good thing to use due to how sunny it can be in the Desert/Savannah of Africa.
Quick question: would Geothermal Power Plants be of any use in Africa? I know next to nothing about it other than the fact that it's a thing that requires heat and it was brought up in the Jurassic Park books.

I was meaning to offer the energy pro bono, but if we go into the energy and water business then it's certainly only for additional funds.
We certainly have the method for it, but water for an entire area is a different dimension of volume.

but...

BUT!

It gives us the opportunity to easily poison the water supply to create an illness we can easily fix.
And/or a means to blackmail anyone, like if we have a direct line to any faction
>>
>>3019699
Purifying water would be a good start, albeit we might need a Purification plant, and that's gonna cost some funding. But it might be of use to us since we won't have to drink the water straight from the rivers.
Now that I think about it, due to how HIV and Ebola are a thing, I wonder if we can make a minor (disease) cure on the side that can take care of the effects of either. The side effects being you turn into a giant monster, but at least you won't have AIDS or Ebola

Yeah I think that would be a good idea we can spin it as a humanitarian effort too for them so they get community service credits. We can have them work on the good thing we do like power water purification, painkillers/regenerative drug. Not everything we do it evil. Just the fun stuff.
>>
Woah, sorry this took so long. Today really ran away from me. Post with required rolls will be incoming soon.

>>3019131
Not at the moment, though it's something you can do in the future. At the moment shoving more money at a project isn't actually enough, because you don't have the facilities to really use that much money.

>>3019144
Contractors from the people are paid on a by-project basis, but hiring new people is something that is basically locked by total funding. Once you have more than a certain amount and the place to house them, you can get more staff.
Vehicles are also totally possible, and requisitions are doable, but spend Umbrella Approval, a resource that you will also have to roll against sometimes in regards to events directly with mainline Umbrella.

>>3019402
You can accept any number of requests, just make sure to keep track of their deadlines.

>>3019547
Really once you start making products and selling them, you'll be able to pull in money, and things like offering services and making your own labs more self-sustaining will gain you more funds by the virtue of reducing costs, but your biggest moneymaker will always just be actual products out in the world.

>>3019691
As a note, the area of the KAZ you're in is mostly scrubland, but you're very close to the nearby Ndipaya wetlands, a large area of open swamp. Kijuju itself is also relatively close to the coastal city of Bahari, so you can go out there with relatively little effort. The jungles to the south are more difficult to get to still, but also present.

All these humanitarian effort ideas are fantastic by the way, definitely remember them for when we have the funds and time to set them up. There's no better way to entrench yourselves then to help the community.

>April 8th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
Your fourth week was an absolute, unmitigated disaster, with only the lucky work of one of your research teams salvaging anything productive out of it. The first problem was during your research into the Protea, what should have been a simple and painless (hah, the irony) endeavor. Instead, one of the centrifuges you were using broke and when you were trying to fix it, it activated violently and dramatically. The resulting explosion of glass and Protea-solution took the lab off limits and embedded glass shards all across your body. While the scars are minor, you found a much less enjoyable side effect of the prototype serum: You can't feel pain. At all. While most would see this as a boon, you know all too well that without pain to alert the brain of danger, you have a significantly higher chance of seriously hurting yourself without realizing. On the positive side, your debilitating and possibly permanent condition has spread some stories among the staff, after your interns saw you stand up and brush yourself off like nothing happened, shards of glass sticking out of your skin and calmly fetch a dustpan. A small, desperate part of you revels in it. You are something more than human now, even in a minute way. Now you just need to refine it. Hone it. *Perfect* it.
>You are now unable to feel pain. This has made you more impressive and foreboding to your workers, but is dangerous.
In other, terrible news, your team researching the local Ngome Crocodile was met with similar, if less life-changing results. The Crocodiles were aggressive, difficult, and injured one of your scientists and the security officer who rescued him from the beast's maw. They'll be out of commission for the next two weeks.
>1 Scientist and 1 Security locked for two weeks, due to mauling.
Your Protean Serum research team on the other hand pulled out a fantastic success, saving this week from being a *complete* mess. They managed to formulate an inject-able serum that completely disassociates the pain centers of the brain. The subject still "feels" the pain, but only as an acknowledgement that it exists, bypassing any panicked responses. Your first real creation!

do you have a preference on how we should suggest what research to do, because I'm still somewhat unsure, and/or we can streamline the process

We have 4 slots, but are they passive research or do we have to allocate the projects into them (we currently have 4 available projects, but one slot is already taken)
Or are those 4 slots for projects and research?

Personally I think that the slots should be areas of our facility to be specialized for one current project.

I know what I want to suggest in terms of research, but I'd like to know the full extent of your rules, possibly in a gdocs in next op so it can be looked up whenever needed and us commenting on it for questions.

>>3021370
When it comes to slots, they're parts of the facility that you're doing a piece of ongoing research in. I'll be actually updating the research and projects to show turn/amount-of-success timers, that way you can better gauge how long slots might be held up for. HOWEVER, when it comes to projects, all you need to do is just assign an applicable staff member to it (in the case of the Protean Serum, any scientist) and let it sit. More staff on it will speed up its rate of production to a certain point, but you don't need to actually roll for anything. They'll just keep working on it.

>>3021389
That best roll thing was for the Survey the Surroundings roll that you did with a combination of Scientists, Security, and Interns. Because it has different effects based on what type of unit is doing it, I had that be one roll with different target numbers for each unit type.

Naming conventions are up to you all, though if you want to use a theme for it like how RE:Rev named its bioweapons after things from Dante's Inferno, I'd be glad to research and offer suggestions.

>June 15th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
Last week was a disaster only barely saved from complete failure, but this week has more than made up for it. Your first real product, the X-142 Analgesic Serum, or "Achelin", is a masterwork worthy to announce your presence. Distributed in the form of stainless steel injectors, a shot of Achelin completely detaches the autonomic responses of the body from pain for the next 3-6 hours. While overdose and other side effects are definite possibilities, you've made something that you know will sell well on the market, in both the medical and military sectors. And not only that, but you've developed a more civilian version as well, in a stroke of absolute genius. While working on synthesizing a more mundane painkiller from it, you managed to isolate a separate compound within its structure by sheer chance! This separate compound is responsible for the "detachment" effect within it, and while useless on its own, could be retrofitted to affect different senses and things beyond just pain! The possibilities are tantalizing.
>Unlocked product: Protean Painkiller (A civilian variation of the Achelin serum. Generates 1 Funds/3 turns)
>What will you name it?
>Unlocked research: Detachment Compound Specialization (A strange compound that detaches sensory information. When you take this research, specify a sense to attempt to research and detach.)
To cap off your week in excellent form, your second research team took it right back to those damned crocodiles! The few pictures you got of interns wrestling shut and binding their mouths gave you a smile, but more important was the research they conducted. The Ngome Crocodile's natural armor is an ecological marvel, created by its own body metabolizing heavy metals in its diet from eating various fish in the mineral-rich Ndipaya Wetlands and then storing them in its shell as it grows, its own musculature building from the slowly increasing weight over the course of its life. With enough manipulation, you could possibly even have them create proper armor, or metabolize precious metals from waterborn trace elements into cohesive metal deposits. If you can make it work, these will be well worth the hassle.
>Unlocked Experiment: Armored Ngome (Can you selectively modify them into having actual armor? 0/1 Successes)
>Unlocked Experiment: Treasure Ngome (Can you selectively modify them into gathering and refining specific minerals? 0/2 Successes)
All in all, a good week.

>AN: A note on Experiments. Experiments always take up one slot to perform, and are based on a number of successes to attempt a result, with multiple successes taking multiple turns. As a note, there will always be some kind of result from an experiment, but based on the number of successes and failures, it maybe very different than the intended one. You will unlock more Experiment options as you unlock more research and products, ESPECIALLY mutagenic Agents.

>June 22th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
Finally, liquidity! Your production has started in earnest and already you're reaping in the goodwill of the populace and funding. Your superiors at Umbrella are impressed, the reports of Protean Painkiller (Which still probably needs a name, maybe Achelite?) and Achelin flying off the shelves in the civilian sector and military sector respectively.
>Products in total generate 2 funds and 12 Goodwill.
>Gained 8 Umbrella Approval.
However, not one to rest on your laurels, you've put your entire team into researching the strange tree your staff had found that, according to the locals, drank blood. Surprisingly, they're not far off from the truth. The tree, though technically a massive, distant relative of the Sundew, is not properly carnivorous but instead creates highly poisonous but very fragrant seeds, which attract animals who eat them and then die. Their decomposing bodies and blood leech into the soil, encouraged by the anticoagulant properties of the poison, and nourish the plant. The fact that the animals bleed out much more than they would otherwise is what has led to the rumors of a blood-drinking, man-eating tree. You've also noted that it can push water throughout its tendrils to cause them to move slightly. You think you can do something with that, oh yes.
>Unlocked Research: Yatevo Anticoagulant (There's definitely some kind of medical use for such a potent anticoagulant, and even more use as a poison.)
>Unlocked Research: Yatevo Locomotion (It can move, yes. How do we make it ambulatory?)
>Unlocked Resource: Yatevo Seeds (Poisonous, fragrant, and resemble starfruit. They're on hand in case you need them)
Your interns as well are now finally experienced enough to think about choosing a particular career path as well. Reportedly, they've enjoyed their time working with you and with staring the Maisha Foundation. Oh, and your two staff members injured in the accident with the crocodiles are finally off of medical leave.

Can we request better security equipment from Umbrella or buy some weapons off the black market for our security teams?
As for the interns, I would like to allocate 2 to Security and 1 to Scientist.

Other than that, I would like to allocate at least 1 security and ourselves to letting KAZDEC know that we are currently in production of painkillers for their civilians and soldiers but we need more time to finish it.
3 Scientists each towards production of both Painkillers and Achelin.
The rest of the science team is applied to research on the Red Flower, with the needed funds.
2 Security is to guard the science team researching the Red Flower
The last 2 Security being split to guarding the production of both the Painkillers and Achelin.

>>
>>3023922
You can! If you want to requisition it from Umbrella, you can roll against your Umbrella Approval. Failure will cost 5 Approval but get you the gear regardless. Alternatively, you may simply purchase a full contingent of gear for security for 1 funds. This full gear setup will double the effectiveness of a security member on a roll to protect (Their current setup is 1= A 1/6 chance to dodge lasting consequences, 2=A 2/6 larger chance, and 3=a much larger 3/6chance. This would double the effectiveness, meaning that they would instead confer 2/6 per guard. This does not however stop severe failures or critical failures.)
>>
>>3023940
Sounds like something to do when we complete the KAZDEC job. That way we can apply more towards development of the base.
Also, would it be possible to hire engineers? Because we might need people to keep the base maintained and able to be kept under control from a mechanical perspective.
>>
>>3023925
The roles available to hire are:
>Construction:
Can build things without requisitioning help from civilians, and can build things secretly
>Specialist
Like a scientist, but they are a named character with specific trained skill, conferring a +15 bonus to things within their skill training. However, as named, they do have their own agendas and goals.
>Agent
Unlocks espionage, letting you get an eye on local issues and international ones, as well as look into your fellow competitors in the Darwin Initiative, and potentially steal/sabotage their work.
>Acquisitions
Agents who go out into the world with funds and return with new life forms, research materials, and possible experiments.
>>
>>3023957
Then we shall be looking for construction staff and possibly more interns
>>
>>3023957

>Intern Upgrade
+2 security, +1 scientists, -3 interns.

>Research (Allocates 1 funding)

>June 29th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
A slow week, all things considered, but a focused one. You delivered a shipment of your newly named Abracine to the KAZDEC and Akida was overjoyed. A tired smile on his face, he thanked you profusely, and set out to distributing the painkillers to clinics and hospitals across Kijuju.
>Gained 10 Goodwill!
>KAZDEC status upgraded to: Liked.
You've also decided to use your newfound resources to actually hire some more staff. As you grow, you'll need to start looking out beyond Kijuju and start planning for greater things. After all, you won't settle for anything less than apotheosis when it comes to Maisha. You'll make you way to the top of the world or die trying. In this vein, you've hired an espionage agent, an engineer, and an acquisitions agent. With any luck, they'll start helping expediently.
>Gained staff type: Agent. Agents can spy on other laboratories, gather information on local and international trends and threats, and even infiltrate and steal from organizations.
>Gained staff type: Engineer. Engineers can expand the number of active slots you have while keeping the contents of your labs secret from civilians. Additionally, they give a +10 to ENG rolls so long as they involve construction of some kind, and can create specific buildings when given the prompt to.
>Gained staff type: Acquisitions. Acquisitions Agents travel around the world (or at least around the state) seeking out things that might interest you and purchasing them to bring back for study. They can get their hands on things you otherwise wouldn't be able to.
Lastly of course was your continued research on the Red Flower, you and your whole team working into the night. You found that the virus within the flower is highly specific in its environment, this batch only alive due to what you can tell must have been a point mutation that helped adapt it to survive the environmental changes involved and grow outside. The virus is potent, able to infect as far as you can tell practically anything, though its actual effects vary and you don't quite have a handle on what triggers them. There's something with its association with the flower too, something beyond just simple mutualism or symbiosis. There's a connection, one that you can't quite grasp, and it drives you mad. You WILL make it reveal its secrets. You swear it. Something pushing it towards perfection
>Research the Red Flower 2/3. You MUST select it again next turn, due to PERFECTIONIST.

We already have two different Pain detachment ones, so officially name them SD-OS-01-Achelin and SD-OS-01a-Abracine (Sense Detach - Organ specific)
After sight we may want to look into other organ specific senses like Proprioception in the parietal cortex, or hunger when dealing with BOWs
Disabeling the Sense of Agency would be nice, but it's not organ specific, so we might want to keep that on the back burner

Os for delivery method against unwilling subjects we should research Implants in BOWs we can remotely activate, as well as dart-gun-like applicator of different doses (vs BOWs and vs Humans)

counter espionage and data security
use a double door systems with a two step verification (which might be in place because it's a prison)
looking more at the concept of how to eventually do it.

We should start with securing against outside threats like spies who want to steal our research
But in the future we will need to secure against those outside who simply want to destroy our stuff (because we failed contracts or had abysmal goodwill)
And once we really get BOWs going, we need to protect against inside threats as well

Technically T-Virus can do that, to a point. There have been Plant Zombies which are corpses taken over and controlled by T-Virus infected plants and a couple plant based BOW like the Ivy, Poison Ivy and Ivy-XY.

Sorry this took so long everyone! What I thought would be a nice chill sunday at work where I could get in some running of the quest ended up being a complete and total clusterfuck.

>July 6th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
>Two scientists talking to each other, while taking a break from synthesizing Abracine and Achelin.
"Busy week, huh?"
"Yeah, definitely. I've heard there's been a lot of work coming in with the new hires. That team researching the detachment compound managed to pull together some crazy stuff."
"I heard, yeah. A formula that causes the brain to dissassociate its own sense of sight? Scary shit. I saw the brainstorming whiteboard they had for delivery methods and someone was talking about grenades of the stuff. Nothing like a silent flashbang, right?"
"Once they figure out how to put hearing into it, definitely."
>Unlocked product: Blinding Grenade (You'd need to find a buyer to sell it, but generates 2 funds/6 turns, and is also available to your own security staff. Applicable for the Mkono no Haki request.)
"Screw that, did you see what the new Acquisitions guy came back with? I thought he'd just be a waste of resources, but he came back with some kind of subdermal induction port research that has the rest of the research team in a tizzy. Something about modular parts."
>Unlocked research: Modular Augments (Your acquisitioner returned with prototype plans for a series of subdermal electronic ports. While clunky and rudimentary, this could be the basis for everything from modular prosthetics to wearable exoskeletons, let alone what happens when you start combining it with your biotech.)
"The other new bunch has been doing good work too. The new interns got in late last night, and that engineer hire's been working around the clock with getting an actual keycard system set up, along with some kind of security. It'll be nice not to worry about anyone getting into the labs."
"I saw him setting up bio-scanners too, it was nuts."
>Keycard and double-door security system installed, along with biometric scans. Raises SEC.
>Gained staff: 4 new interns.
"Yeah, and with that spooky looking dude checking out the place, I doubt they'll want to try!"
"Man, don't be mean, I'm sure he didn't ask to look like every picture of the Men In Black ever made."
"Yeah well he gives me the creeps."
>Situation Ascertained: As far as you can tell, you're relatively secure in terms of current spies, but that won't last long at all. Your ascent has been notable, and dramatic, though your Agent isn't sure from which angle they'll attack first.
"Hey, have you seen the boss this week?"
"The 'Iron Maiden'? Nah. Last I saw her and and the rest of the team were working on that flower. I don't think she's left the lab at all."
"Yeesh, really? And I thought I was a workaholic."

Somewhere in the laboratory, the red flower blooms.

Your week has been focused.. Focused on one thing and one thing alone: That damned flower. You haven't left the lab, sending out staff members to bring you meals and sleeping on a cot. You know that this is unprofessional, that it's probably impacted exactly how your staff sees you, but you don't care. Those concerns are petty and mundane. You have discovered something far more important. You have discovered something new.
While you experimented, your team pulled as much research from their memories of working at Umbrella and on the T-Virus as they possibly could, and they found mentions of a Progenitor virus, and a few scant pieces of data on it. And while you can say that what you've found is similar, it is something wholly unique. A series of point mutations not only allowed this new strand of Progenitor to survive outside of its natural habitat, but has made it react very differently than the original virus. Where the Progenitor would wildly, this new creation adapts, taking in environmental stresses to change the infected to better suit them. Evolution in hours instead of in millennia. It's almost fitting.
The virus changed the flower too you realize It took an organism that could only grow and thrive in a specific environment, itself included, and changed them to suit any environment it could come across. And it's still doing it! You've caught it adapting to better take in nutrients from the sun lamps in the laboratory, or finer roots to absorb more nutrients from the soil in its research tank.
The possibilities of this are endless, you realize with a giddy, manic laugh. You could, with enough work, make it adapt anything. You could make surgical rejection a thing of the past. You could have organisms that would flourish in any environment, any place. You could have vaccines that adapt to their diseases, antibiotics that actively change to stop point mutations, humans who could evolve around their own congenital illnesses-sons who wouldn't die from hemophilia, who's wounds would close, who would get BETTER- all you have to do is-
You stop yourself, moments before you reach into the enclosure to grab the flower. It's too soon. Not controlled enough. You need to test it, need to make sure that it will follow your design.
But never the less, it is so very, very tempting.
>Unlocked Agent: Divergent Progenitor Virus (Mutates in accordance with environmental pressures, loosely mimicking evolution.)
>What do you name it?
>Unlocked research: Refine Divergent Progenitor (It works. Now, how do you make it work for you?)

i think we should stay smaller for now and wait a little with the red flower
>>
I’m writing this because we face a series of dangers, which must be rectified if we are to be successful in our endeavors here on the continent and writing it out will hopefully give us a plan of actions.

Problems
1. Funding- While we have a current market to sell our products, it is limited in how much we produce and the limited scope of our products.

Solution- We expand the laboratory and/or build a dedicated production facility for the current and future drugs to increase the amount of them created so we can sell more.

Solution- We invest our resources into the more medical side of the business and look for more flora samples to expand the list of our products.

2. Security- We are in a war torn portion of Africa and while our facility is small enough to be beneath the notice of any more petty warlords and bandit chiefs we must be prepared for the day when we grow large enough to be a potential target.

Solution- We construct additional lines of defense around our compound, such as a large and sturdy chain link fence topped with razor wire surrounding our facility, guard posts and guard towers positioned at strategic areas of the fence line, a inner wall of fences and a outer wall of fences in which we place landmines (This is Africa, they should be readily available) between the perimeters.

Solution- Additional security staff to maintain a defence perimeter, and to ensure the security of our scientists.

Solution- Better equipment, in the form of better body armor and weapons standard to Umbrella, or our own devised modifications.

3. Politics- This being Africa, where warlords are a dime a dozen and Democratic nations can form then die in a single day, we need to ensure the good will of whichever nation state is nearby and ensure their cooperation.

Solution- We should make an effort to get on the side of RIKA and to help them win in this coming conflict Mkono no Haki, to secure good will with them and to allow them to control this region. The dictator is much more likely to let us get away with some of our darker experiments than any Democratic nation.
>>

Is there a limit on how many staff we can hire? I want to hire more folks so we can research more things at once.
>>
>>3028035
I support this, maybe see if we can get another request from RIKA, something easier and more military/medical based, instead of creating a pet, I dont think we can create an obedient pet just yet.
>>
>>3028035
*accept the Mkono no Haki request
>>
>>3028054
Every time you get more funding past your previous highest, you unlock the ability to hire more staff. At the moment, our staff capacity is 25, meaning you have two staff slots open.

It's a red flower. Lets call this new Progenitor
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubedo R-virus or the Rubedo virus.

'Rubedo is a Latin word meaning "redness" that was adopted by alchemists to define the fourth and final major stage in their magnum opus. Both gold and the philosopher's stone were associated with the color red, as rubedo signalled alchemical success, and the end of the great work.[1] Rubedo is also known by the Greek word, Iosis.'

We could also call a later phase of that.

[ ] Engineer builds Crimson Garden
[ ] 3 scientists research the Urobrous sample
[ ] 1 scientist and 4 interns reserach modular augments
[ ] Agent ascertain local situation
[ ]3 scientists use Ngome Crocodile with th eDivergent Progenitor

Counting up the votes, it looks like the name of our newest straight of the Progenitor Virus is "Sandalphon", or the S-Virus for short. That said, I also really like the R-Virus and the Rubedo idea, so I'm going to put that as "save for later, probably when you get a new Agent". Either that, or you could save Sandalphon for a new agent and associate the Rubedo/R-Virus with the red flower, due to the whole color association. Your choice.

>July 13th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
It seems that your last week had the opposite effect on your staff members than you thought. You had expected they would lose faith or respect for you, considering you spent the last week sleeping on a couch in the lab, but it seems that your constant, unceasing and far too long. Without the ability to feel discomfort, you worked for close to 60 hour stretches. effort has inspired them with awe. You smile. Good.
The awe has definitely translated over towards productivity however. Your team researching the Shovel-Jawed Bat found that their suspicions on its suitability for genetic manipulation were correct, but also that the bat's namesake large jaw has a surprising amount of bite strength, enough to crack through the nuts it supplements its diet with. Additionally, its hide is shockingly tough, requiring large blades and concerted effort to get through. It might even shrug off gunfire if you could size it up.
>Unlocked research: Shovel-Jaw Hide (It's incredibly tough. Can you utilize its structure on other things?)
>Shovel-Jawed Bat research complete: Is applicable as a Subject for experiments.
Your own research on the strange vial that was given to you upon your arrival in the country is an interesting one. The coiled black tentacle that was inside is apparently the result of a mutagenic virus, in the same family as your newly-discovered Sandalphon, but of a much more refined and engineered variety. It is absolutely ravenous as well, the tentacle the result of a genetic selection that does not meet up to its standards, which it promptly cannibalizes in an explosion of oily, cancerous growths. For those that it would select for, you've found components that could cause all manner of strange abilities and mutations. However, it's selection window is impossibly narrow. You'd estimate it would kill or over-mutate anyone it came in contact with. Perhaps there's a way to widen it, or erase it all together.
>Unlocked action: Call the phone number (May be undertaken at any time, but you have a feeling it will be important, and should be ready for what it might bring.)
>Unlocked research: Uroboros Selection (How does it select its applicable hosts, and can we change it?)
>Unlocked Agent: Uroboros-Strain 1 and Resource: Uroboros Tendril.
>Unlocked project: Cultivate Uroboros (Infect a deliberately unsuitable subject to harvest more tendrils)
In addition, you accepted the request from the local militia, the Mkono no Haki. The leader, a battle-scared woman named Nalah Uasi, was dismissive and demanding in her introductions, but you can see the desperation in her and her men. They badly need whatever you can give them.
Sadly, not all of your efforts this week were perfectly productive. Your holding facilities will be built, but are running behind schedule due to a supply line issue. It should be done next week.

>Local Situation Dossier, July, 1990.
The Kijuju Autonomous Zone is a barely-stable mess, to be frank. Split between an overwrought government, a predatory dictator-in-exile on the borders, a dangerous militia growing in size daily in response, and an entire slowly-dying tribal nation out in the swamplands, the KAZ was already a house of cards. Throw in the presence of resource and science megacorporation TRICELL and their massive oil field, and the rumored presence of a roving band of murderers under a figure known as the "Mafalme wa Damu", your presence is actually a relatively stabilizing one.

>Kijuju Autonomous Zone Democratically Elected Council, or KAZDEC
Current government of Kijuju, after ousting dictator Reth Dahabu eight years ago. Haggard and overwrought by the constant influx of refugees following Dahabu's attacks and the rumored predations of the Mafalme wa Damu, and the continual domineering presence of TRICELL, and you can see why they were so willing to let you set up shop here. While relatively weak militarily, and hamstrung by social and poltical pressures, they still hold the faith and popular consensus of the overall Kijuju population.

>Royal Imperial Kijuju Army, or RIKA
The armed forces and exiled royalists of former dictator Emperor Reth Dahabu I, the majority of his cabinet fled south to the jungles after his exile. From there, the RIKA has been staging raids against the current Kijuju populace for supplies, conscripts, and any damage they can do to the KAZDEC in the process. Dahabu is an egomaniac, but a surprisingly charismatic one, and has significant resources.

>Mkono no Haki
A growing civilian militia officially not endorsed by KAZDEC, the Mkono no Haki is the brainchild of Nalah Uasi, a former doctor who banded together civilians to fight the depredations of the RIKA. Charismatic and forceful, Uasi has led the Mkono no Haki on increasingly more damaging raids and ambushes against the RIKA, but her use of brutal, take-no-prisoners tactics and general demeanor have had others fearing that the Haki will grow into yet another warband with a burgeoning dictator at the helm. They hold a significant sway with the population, and are searching for allies.

>Dossier Cont.
>>
>>3029796
>Ndipaya Kingdom
Dwindling, destitute, and slowly dying, the Ndipaya Kingdom is one of the few remaining traditional tribal groups still within the area. A seemingly meritocratic monarchy, the Ndipaya live out in the wetlands, fishing and hunting to supplement their farming. While seemingly inconsequential, there have been sightings going back as far as 30 years ago of westerners arriving and building somewhere in their lands. More recently, there was even talk of one of the higher ups in TRICELL arriving by helicopter, somewhere in the swampland. Perhaps worth looking into. Either way, they're an easy source of manpower or experimental subjects if need be.

>TRICELL
A massive, storied, and well established corporation since it's start as the Travis Shipping Company, TRICELL has both of its Pharmaceutical and Natural Resources divisions based here in West Africa, though the KAZ itself is remote comparably. The main source of TRICELL power here is their coastal oil refinery, built near the Ndipaya wetlands and the reason behind many of TRICELL's operations here. They have significant capitol and political clout, but are primarily unconcerned with the KAZ unless it becomes notable.

>Mafalme wa Damu
The enigmatic and mysterious figure of the Mafalme wa Damu, or "Bloody King", is a local folk legend that has taken a sudden realistic turn. A mythical figure from Ndipaya history, the Mafalme wa Damu was said to be an ancient, disgraced king of their culture, who became a monster upon his ritual ascent to kingship and terrorized the countryside, slaughtering entire villages. While normally superstition, recently entire villages have been found in the outskirts of the KAZ filled with brutally slaughtered dead, and people have reported a strange, giant figure stalking the edges of the marshes and scrubland at sunset. It might be worth looking into.

-Ngome Armor
Then let’s expand the facilities by
-Setting up a perimeter fence and a gate post, along with various defensive positions.
Finally let’s
-Survey the flora, so we can find more samples to research.

a airport will be necessary but not now .

well and a lot of other things since we are russians some aircraft like jet fighters
mig 29 or some Mil Mi-24 (helicopters gunships) and maybe some american F-15. they should be available in this years.
then for land vehicles we should check the 80s / 90s period for american and russian vehicles, especially for light armored vehicles or support ones. or even from other nations. (for battle tanks russians probaly sell older T-62 and T-69 in this period, but in the 90s the more modern T-80 and T-72 are produced)

does Umbrella produce already modern weapons ? we could check even the arsenal of the company, if they give us a pass (but it will probably cost too much and buyed costantly by the us military).
>>
>>3030093
We need our umbrella brand anti bio equipment. Dosnt Africa have a ton of raw materials. Could we make our own tanks with enough infrastructure?
>>
>>3030096
yes definetly but enough infrastructure here means a lot of it and more staff (not a dozen people).

but for the near future buying old USSR weapons could do the job for sometime (we need 4-5 years for enough development unless we start making a lot of income). So in that year 1994-5 we can buy the even cheaper russian stuff that would be still good for a war theater like west africa {they are still used] and increase our guards /mercs even more at that point it would be literally a small army.

and use it from 1995 to 2005 . in the 1997/2000 we can start our own production of vehicles of all types, but now it could be difficult.

----

maybe we should even start new bases at a certain point. (i m thinking of buying some docks at the nearest port city, or maybe a small port in the swamp for a special facility there)

searching for some minerals and oil natural deposits, could be necessary (especially because the TRICELL already does both. [mining and research} they need to be stopped, for our profits to increase even more)

the AK-47 should have hit the top popularity in this years, so they will just produce it like hell for countries of the "third world".

>>3030157
i mean now "warlord" it s a bad term when you think of the Maisha Foundation .... well it s for the defense of our investments and for our researchs.... plus we are going to build roads, bridges, schools, intoduce western agriculture type ecc... so if we then buy more lands around us with towns of civilians creating the Maisha Protectorate
, no one could say we arrive there and "conquer" them ..... and if the population of the remaining KAZ provinces start prefering to be ruled by the Maisha Protectorate why we shouldn t accept their

>>3029800
can you write next to research projects and experiments what stat they use?

>>3029823
As for probability and stuff we should do more than two things

our stats are:
CHEM: 25
ENG: 15
BIO: 40
MECH: 15
PHYS: 40

HR:
scientists: +5
interns: +3
engineer: +10 on ENG tasks
security: less bad if failed

As your suggestion goes:
Ngome Armor: Us, 3 scientists, 2 interns, 2 security
40+20+15+6= TN 81
Yatevo Anticoagulant: 6 scientists, 2 interns, 1 security
25/40+30+6=TN61/76 (depending if it's CHEM or BIO)

but we could easily pull off some scientists off the Ngome Armor for more of the Detachment Compound (Proprioception) which is BIO
as our base is 40 we only need 2 scientists to get a 50% chance of success.
And three rolls on 71, 61/76 and 50 sound like better advancement possibilities than 81 and 61/76 alone
and why stop on 3, split it to 4?

to reiterate:
>>3029993
>what is RIKAs source of income?
>>
Will have rolls up shortly.

>>3030618
>>3029993
RIKA's income is primarily from three sources. The first is their established wealth, stolen away by the royalists during the revolution that ousted them. The second is whatever they can get from their raids. The third is financial backing from outsider interests, namely ones that would benefit from the imperial government's return to power. Who those are, you aren't entirely sure, and honestly you're not really sure if RIKA knows either. Yaaay, neo-colonialism!

>>3030075
Resident Evil in our universe will probably be supplanted by another survival horror series. Either that, or it's just the Paul W.S. Anderson movies in game form, made by bored Umbrella staff with the names changed. Watch as Alice fights the evil monsters of the diabolic Parasol Zaibatsu and their dastardly D-Virus!

>>3030156
>>3030182
Getting your hands on weapons won't be too difficult, via the Grey Markets perk. You'll just either need to spend 1 funds, or locate and secure a buyer for yourself which would allow you to purchase at a discounted rate or roll against your current Funds to just already have it.

As for actions, the first one currently has the most votes, but I'll try to incorporate suggestions from the second.
>>
>>3030143
>>3030093
Jet fighters are pretty much out of the question due to the price tag and the massive operational cost not even considering how we're supposed to get our hands on trained pilots.
The only thing we could really do if we wanted aerial assets would be either transport planes and Helicopters. If we still need our own airforce for some reason, we should just either an armed Ah 6 little bird and if we really have to, put some cash down for the mi 24.
Armoured vehicles are a different thing however.
Main Battle Tanks are a little overkill but one or two APC's or IFV's are not out of question.
The most practical vehicle for now should be a simple humvee with a 50 cal. It's more affordable than a lot of other options but still not as "unprofessional" as a Toyota technical.

Considering its the early 90s, we'll probably get a good price from some rogue soviet officers.
And to start off I propose that we first get a team of special ops for industrial sabotage. Maybe we can even enhance them through some virus fuckery.
>>
>>3030190
Also yeah, I'll include what stat in the future.

>>3029823

but before the special ops , it would be better to have more guards here.
i was just making a list there of possible things (and after some time 4-5 years for have a strong economic/development base not now; and we should still think about it even when we reach that point. But in this region we can for the most do what we want so having aircraft doesn t sound so crazy. Those are (maybe) for the future so it s not a priority now. >July 20th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
Another week of progress, but one with a strange air about it. It started with you fulfilling the Mkono no Haki request and granting them a large stock of Achelin, something which they desperately needed. Even the standoffish Nalah Uasi looked grateful, and it kind of unnerved you given her demeanor the prior meeting.
>+1 Funds
>Mkono no Haki status set to: Liked
Regardless, you and your teams have been productive this week. Your work on the Ngome Crocodile's mineral-condensing properties has come out with interesting results. It seems that with a metal-supplemented diet, the Ngome's scales can assemble sizeable enough metal deposits to shrug off light arms, and some of the more exotic metals group tests are showing a promising capacity to create what are effectively alloyed deposits. You've effectively created a subspecies, though what you'll do with them, you're not sure. At the very least, you can harvest their hide for snazzy crocodile-skin body armor.
>Unlocked subject: Ngome Ironhide (A Ngome crocodile with heavy metal deposits in its hide, mostly iron.)
>Unlocked experiment: Exotic Ngome Metals (Try out what might happen if you introduce stranger or more rare minerals and metals to its diet)
>Unlocked product: Ngome-Hide Armor (Snazzy, protective, and probably illegal anywhere else. Requires 1 staff of any kind, generates 2 funds/5 turns, but only where there aren't animal endangerment laws)
Your work on the Yatevo's anticoagulant seeds was similarly interesting, finding that the compound could be potent for treating blood clots, but also is a potent poison, dissolving platelets and preventing coagulation. You absolutely hate it. Get it out of your sight.
>Unlocked product: Yatevo Anticoagulant (A potent medical tool, will generate quite a bit of notice. Requires 1 scientist, generates 1 funds/2 turns.)
>Unlocked product: Yatevo Venom (A dangerous and potent poison. Generates 3 funds/8 turns. Does not require a scientist on every turn, due to slow selling process, just on the turn to start it.)
During this, your acquisitions agent came back with yet another interesting find: An experimental military synthetic adrenaline compound, called "Ares". While effective, it causes significant pain in the user, making it mostly useless for its original purpose. Or it was, until you discovered a compound that could suspend pain.
>Unlocked research: Ares/Achelin Synthesis (Offset Ares' pain issues and develop a genuine "super soldier drug".)
You also hired two new people, who are getting settled now, and accepted the RIKA request, the delegate from His Highness being very snarky about the whole thing. You can't wait to wipe that smug grin off his face.

>Accepted RIKA commission.

However, the strangeness of your week occurred when this morning you came to work to find a delegation of Ndipaya warriors leading an elderly man waiting outside of your building, unnerving the guards. In rough but passable Swahili, the old man introduced himself as "Steward Unasubiri" and has come to you with a proposition. Apparently his people noticed your initial searches for viable flora and fauna by the edge of the swamplands and your subsequent trips to restock, and has decided to speak with you, reaching out to his contacts in Kijuju. He's found that you are a bioengineering company, and in a time of desperation for his people has come with a strange request.
Unasubiri has detailed that in times of old, his people would select their king by a sacred ritual, the king eating from a flower that would judge his worth. If it found him wanting, he would die, flesh warped to show his shame. If he lived, he would become beyond other men, and worthy of kingship. It would almost be laughable, until you remember the R-Virus flower in your laboratory,
However, Unasubiri explains, his people no longer have access to their sacred flower. Nearly thirty years ago, a group of westerners came and made deals with the chieftains at that time, before taking control of their ancestral homeland and in doing so, sealing away their access to the the flower and their means of establishing a leader. Now, in the face of outside pressures and the ongoing encroachment of TRICELL, they come to you, a woman of science, to see if you can find why their flowers did what they did, and with the hopes of using your expertise to aid them in establishing a Ndipayan King once more. Should you accept and succeed, their territory and their people will be your allies, and whatever resources they can muster shall be yours.
What is your answer?

It's mostly assumed that as you gain more funds, you gain more space to hire people, but if you'd like to set up on-site housing and other quality of life things for your staff, you can. They would give bonuses, dependent on what they are.

As a note, you gain 2 slots for staff every time your Funds increases more than your previous highest value.

So what are you guys thinking for when we inevitably drink a cocktail of genetic stuff to perfect ourself?

I was thinking a cocktail of Samdalphon/Ares/Achelin and Uboros to make us superhuman in every sense. Toughen our skin to shovel jaw levels while retaining smoothness, creating subdermal armor and reinforced bones with the same stuff the Ngome crocs use. If we could find pheromone Control, something that lets us generate and govern what our body’s chemical output is, and maybe make it breed true(cause we want kids) we’d be set.

we could start our own spartan project, and make/train some supersoldiers. ..... project hercules ?

(plus our agent has found some detailed sketchs for exoskeletons so, its possible to give them a mountain of croc armor for protect our future super soldiers. Add a ton of training and biological advancements for their bodys and we have them. )
should we send our report to Umbrella ? this stuff is hot. so i consider to think about it (we could contact some militarys and offer the project for a lot of founds, soldiers to train and secrecy). Or at least ask for 10 founds and more staff.

yes we need definetly some trainers, if we manage to start this new project (+ create this cocktail) and the first tests (both on adults and childs) are successful enough.
but should we keep a secret this idea (and develop it on our own) ? or say it to Umbrella ? or get in touch with some militarys ? i mean the potential is great, too great.

me too for now we have the Ares and the Achelin to combine and we could use them in this project, and remember that the sketchs of the exoskeletons combined with the croc armor means that we can give them an actual heavy armor.

then the Yatevo Anticoagulant will be fundamental, plus we need for sure to install some tech in the heavy armor (communications system, the exoskeleton, thermal/night vision ecc ...).

anyway I propose this project to be called "hercules" (first top secret), and to start it 2 years from now.

then again an orphanage could be a small-medium size structure so 5 months or 3 from now we can start some tests and experiment.

(we get some basic defenses like a perimeter fence around the lab complex complete with watch towers and electric wires and add mines&bear traps, other basic buildings {canteen, clinic, workshop, barracks, armory, expand the laboratory, a control room, a communications room, training ground, bar, warehouse, better roads near us, a small airport, actual housing for our staff ecc...}, more staff and 1/2 specialize people. if we can some security cameras&movement sensors inside our base and outside, maybe a radar for check the sky).

plus we will start this project only when feeling safe to do so, it would be foolish to do this now.

>July 27th, 1990, Kijuju, KAZ, Western Africa
You week began with frustration, and continued as such. You had attempted to see if you could get the Ngome to generate deposits of Tungsten, but couldn't quite manage it. Instead, the Ngome that ate a primarily tungsten diet seemed to not metabolize quite enough of it, resulting in only slightly heat-retardant crocodiles. Still, you have hope that you could repeat the experiment in the future.
>Exotic Ngome Metals gets +15 next time it's selected.
However, while your testing was merely disappointing, your construction efforts were even worse. Your engineers will be done, but the expansion to the labs was hampered by shoddy workmanship on the electrical and water systems present in the building before you arrived. It'll take the extra week to retrofit them to the proper level and connect up the new labs.
>New research slots in 1 week.
In better news however, your acquisitions agent has called saying he'll return next week with something particularly interesting he found, which may help with your experiments on the Ngome.
Your survey team meanwhile found a bevy of new life out in the swamplands, quite a few possibly applicable to your work. The standouts include an entire herd of pygmy hippopotamus, a strangely patterned large-winged moth who you swear was glowing in the shade.
>Unlocked research: Pygmy Hippopotamus (Despite their relative size to other species, they're still dangerous, massive, and very hardy)
>Unlocked research: In'aa Moth (A large moth, who glows slightly in the light.)

>Yes to the Ndipaya
You give Unasubiri your answer and he smiles, thankfulness and happiness stretching across his weathered face. His warriors behind him relax as well, now that they're more sure of your position and less worried about having to protect Unasubiri. The steward in question reaches into the folds of his Grand boubou robe and retrieves a folded piece of cloth, which he unfolds on your desk. On it, penned in painstaking, agonizing detail in what looks like pigment paint and charcoal, is a sketch of the Red Flower.
This flower, he explains, is the sacred gift of his people. The "Stairway of the Sun". Each kingship ceremony requires its candidate to consume a flower at the climax, whereupon a strange change will happen within him: Either he will become beyond mankind, or he will warp and twist as his sins are made manifest from the flower's touch. He can get you, though at not inconsiderable risk considering the Ndipaya have been blocked off from the location these flowers grow, several of these flowers. If you can figure out exactly what causes their gift to manifest, he hopes that it can be replicated, that his people can find a way to reunite without a reliance on their growing location, the only place that they naturally occur.
To this aim, he has given you all the resources of the Ndipaya at your disposal, so long as you can help him with his predicament.

For available specialists, these are your current options.

>Professor Charles Baker
The Regretful
Specialty: CHEM
Age: 44
An american expatriate, Charles Baker has been working at the University of Ghana teaching chemistry for the past ten years. He holds a doctorate in chemistry and a secondary masters in chemical engineering. Due to disagreements with this place of employment over tenure and other issues he's reluctant to speak of, he's seeking a new place of employment where he can be free to pursue some of his own theories. He speaks with a relatively noticeable southern accent, and has a frankly impressive beard and mustache.

>Doctor Dario Gionne
The Runaway
Specialty: MECH
Age: 35
A studied doctor and prosthetist, Dario Gionne has been traveling the world working in warzones and areas of crisis for the past fifteen years and after a brief brush with capture from a warlord six months back is looking for other avenues to practice his skills and aid others. Seemingly, you can find no direct mention of his family history. He is handsome, charismatic, and always with a perpetual smirk and an unbuttoned collar.

>Carietta Blanc
The Revenant
Specialty: ENG
Age: 24
Though young and relatively untested, Carietta Blanc comes highly recommended as a fresh graduate from Stanford University, where she graduated egregia cum laude with a double masters in Architecture and Engineering. A relatively withdrawn figure, Carietta is seeking employment far from home with a goal to build and create, and in doing so make her mark on the world. She is slim and frail looking, with long hair covering a series of scars your cursory research connects to a fire that happened in her youth.

I'd be interested to start looking into creating the pet BOW for his highness.
It'd be valuable to know if he values strength or beauty more.
For strength we can pretty much do whatever maybe do something with a Ngome or create something out of the Pygmy Hippopotamus.
Our best bet for something beautiful would probably be something like viraly induced gigantism for the moth. But I'm not sure if either of them can be trained or even controlled in any way.

I'm voting for Carietta Blanc. My two reasons for wanting her is her ENG experience and the fact that she seems very straightforwards about what she wants in comparison to the other two.

I don't trust Gionne as far as I can throw him. He comes off way too unsubtle for my tastes. And the fact that he has no family history implies it's a forgery.
While Baker would be a good person to get our hands on, the only real problem I have is that if someone his age was quitting his job over hush hush shit, it means that he found something immoral to disagree with, which means that he thinks with his heart, and that type of person usually fucks people over at the worst possible scenario.

>August 3rd, 1990, KAZ, Western Africa
You arrived from the airport early in the morning, suitcase trailing behind you and your jacket clutched protectively around you. You had wanted to go somewhere far, far away from Maine, but was Kijuju really the best option? You shivered in the car despite the heat, staring out the window at the scrubby landscape as you approached the remote Maisha Laboratories building. Honestly, if you didn't know any better, you'd say the place was a prison.
When you entered, the first thing you noticed were the security doors, your drivers showing you through a complicated double lockout system and mentioning that you'd be getting your own keycard to let you in soon. Still, this was a science lab, what did they need such a heavy security system for? As you passed through the halls, you saw a man in a laboratory cracking open seeds and placing them into a centrifuge, thick purple fluid extracting into vials. You saw a group of scientists and security guards unloading a tranquilized... hippopotamus(?) into an enclosure, which really baffled you. What were they going to do with that?!
>Unlocked research: Hippopotamus Muscle (Despite their relative size, these creatures are incredibly strong. Could you replicate it?)
>Unlocked Specimen: Pygmy Hippopotamus
Your escorts led you into a laboratory where a group of scientists were sitting around an enclosure containing a massive crocodile, its hide gleaming silvery with square, metallic growths, discussing fervently.
>Unlocked Specimen: Tungsten-Hide Ngome (Able to refine Tungsten and theoretically other trace elements of metals into actual crystals, these creatures are living treasure troves of metal. If only they didn't also grow in size to support their metal-laden hides, now reaching frankly terrifying sizes.)
When you entered, one of them turned and stood, rising nearly a head above you as she walked up to you. She was statuesque to say the least, like she had been carved from the coldest marble and free of imperfection, save for the faint scars that dotted across her face and down her neck and oh my God you should stop staring! She introduced herself as Viktoria Petrovna and as she held out her hand in perfunctory greeting, you realized this woman was your new boss.
>Carrietta Blanc hired.

>August 4th, 1990, KAZ, Western Africa.
You met the new girl today, the fresh graduate from Stanford, and honestly, you weren't too impressed. She's shy, to a painful degree, hunched in on her already small frame. Her blonde hair hangs across her face, brushed out of the way by her own nervous fingers. And the scars, oh the scars. She takes care to cover them up, but you can see them at the edges of her clothing, peeking out like some kind of creeping stain. Honestly, they unsettle you.
Still, if she does her job well you can put up with a little unsettling once in a while.
In more mundane news, you've reached a milestone in terms of financing, which pleases your Umbrella backers, and your new Anticoagulant formula which has produced significant goodwill.

Additionally, your Acquisitions agent has finally returned, bringing with him a remarkable specimen: A species of sea-crab that has similar properties, taken to a much stranger scale. Possessing a heavily omnivorous diet, it somehow manages to increase the process of bio-magnification within itself into solidified objects, leaving behind small "false eggs" filled with toxins, mercury, and other such pollutants. If you could combine it's ability with the Ngome's already existing ones, you could theoretically create a creature that could cleanse pollutants from an area, or one that could filter out metals from any substance and coalesce them. Hell, you could probably even increase the Ngome's already existing armor production until it was legitimately bulletproof!
>Unlocked Subject: Silver Bubble Crab
>Unlocked research: Genetic Splicing (You've already thought about it. Now, to make combining organisms a reality, mutagens aside)
>Unlocked specialty building: Splicing Laboratory (Enough working in simple labs, you need somewhere specialized for this kind of work.)

As a note to these posts, I couldn't find suitable art for Carrietta, so if anyone can find anything that they think might work, feel free to post it!
Otherwise, your Agent is alive...barely. Frankly, he got incredibly lucky on his roll, and the security guard got even luckier on his to stay alive. You'll catch up with him next week assuming a success on this roll, but suffice it to say, things got rough, specifically when he was looking into Lianshiang.

Additionally assuming that success, this next one might be very long post: the Darwin Dossier is a big one.

We need to be able to hermetically seal off sections of our facility too, otherwise we can't work with dangerous viruses

But Carrietta (plus our two Engineers and one Security) to the task, give her all the blueprints we have on the facility, also explain to her that (her hunch was right and) it is a repurposed prison facility, but we had to work with what we got. Now we have some more funds and we can actually get into better stuff.
Apologize that it's probably a mundane task for her, but it's something that is very important and we will certainly have more exciting things for her to do in the future.

Support.

The overhaul is too important.

The starway is ok even if it s not a priority.
But we just need to remember to make the Rika request because that s a lot of founds...... and a basic defense system around our base :
>a perimeter fence around the lab complex complete with watch towers and electric wires and add mines&bear traps just for fun.
And in the near future we could add some cameras and movement sensors, inside and outside the base maybe even in strategic locations for see the land or in important roads points. (so we know what happens around us; the cameras in strategic/ important positions should be put in secret and be difficult to find.... we don t want others to know).
>>
>>3038390
I figure the stairway is a big ticket item. After overhaul I would start working on gene splicing.

Add hippo muscle to a ironhide or tungsten and then get an agent to train it. Maybe add in the crab’s purification to make super croc.

Or add in all of those traits plus Acelin/Ares mixture on a RIKA volunteer for BOW basic super soldier.
>>
>>3038142
+1
>>
>>3038395
No let s have some basic defense first .
There is a civil war going on outside, and we are in africa so here is far more easy to send groups of armed grunts to our enemys.
With a bit more security, we can start building other structures (and not just special ones, even civil and military ones are welcome).
>>
>>3038395
>Add hippo muscle to a ironhide or tungsten and then get an agent to train it. Maybe add in the crab’s purification to make super croc.

>Or add in all of those traits plus Acelin/Ares mixture on a RIKA volunteer for BOW basic super soldier.
Yes with this (and the Yatevo Anticoagulant ) we have the base for super soldiers. We can improve their bodys drastically and give them an incredible armor, add a training of special forces (+ some safety things like cranial bombs) and the product is made :
Soldiers for the future.

we don t need to run for have them. There are still more things to research and some preparation to make for just start a project like this with the safety and secrecy that it probably requires.
Plus you don t think of any other nations that could ask for supersoldiers ? I mean the RIKA is rich but their stability could fall at any moment if someone kills the emperor.
But perhaps we don t even need to sell them. We could just use them for ourself.
>>
>>3038465
We need to sell them at least one BoW to keep them off us until we can get bigger. Hell capture a lion, add in pymgy hippo muscles, iron jaw hide and make's bones with the same shit as the iron hide or tungsten hide?

Good BoW that we can milk money out of RIKA with.
>>
>>3038485
requirement: "well trained"
that's the biggest issue
>>
>>3038490
We'll need our agent and possiblysecuirity to train them.

Maybe just go for Lion with pygmy muscles and iron jaw hide. Easier to make surely.

We just need to remember the time left for the request and the animal chosen will not kill the emperor

Especially because is a mammalian, so it s a bit more easy to train.
We could sell them to other countrys like a war animal. You leave them in packs against light infantry formations and let them hunt (they should be a bit bulletproof), then you recall them. (For avoid that they eat your military forces a scent need to be apply on all your squads on the battlefield. We need to find something for make the scent)

Or use their same scent. No more needs to make the scent.

it s still better to have training, just to be sure.

since the first one is going to our important customer.

and later when we sell them to various militarys, they will just obey orders definetly.
the drug injector can be a safety measure like the cranial bombs.

As a clarification on the flowers, the Red Flower and Stairway of the Sun are technically different, due to the R-Virus' effects.
