When you charge wakes up, you’re already waiting for him, having taken a quick nod off yourself. There’s not much in the way of necessary preparations- but that barely seems to register with him as his eyes meet yours and he yelp, nearly jumping a foot off the bed. “WHOA, hey! Who’re...wait…”As he settles down, you find yourself wondering just what you’ve signed on for. This kid…“So it WASN’T a dream...wow…” And then he snaps to attention. “Oh geez, what time is it?” “Six forty-five in the morning,” you answer quickly. You’d been eyeing the clock for a while now…“Crud! Okay, okay, we’re not late, but we gotta be fast- hold on!” And he races into the bathroom. You’re just glad you’d already availed yourself of the facilities before he woke.----------------------Hello, noble summons, and welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest!Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Magical%20Girl%20For%20Hire%20QuestGeneral Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/u/MGFHQHandlerCharacter Details: http://pastebin.com/9J70gqM2 FAQ: http://pastebin.com/8unLWUjF Twitter: https://twitter.com/MGFHandlerPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/MGHandler
>>2906402After several minutes of waiting, the two of you are finally prepared to head out, him in his wardrobe from yesterday- although you can tell it’s another set of the same clothes. Before you step out the door, though, he turns to you, and tries his best to put on what you might charitably call an intense look. “Right! So, uh...you’re a summons! And I paid for you. Aaand...that means you haveta do what I say, right?”“Mhm.” You nod. Whatever he wants to say, he really needs to hurry it up. “Right! So, uh...yeah! Before the test they’re gonna wanna inspect us to make sure I actually summoned you and we’re linked, and I’m not borrowing someone else’s summon, but that’s fine! Since I DID summon you! I mean, I don’t have the summoning orb anymore...but it happens!” You just raise an eyebrow, and he flinches a bit. “Sometimes! Rarely...anyway! I’ve heard of people that have summoned without orbs, it’s just a ton harder! But some students have done it! So it can happen, but you GOTTA do what I order when I order it, otherwise I’ll look bad. A summon that doesn’t listen to the summoner is the sign of a bad summoner...or a really REALLY strong summon, y’know? That’s w-why, y’know, the breaking thing happens and there’s no link. Okay? Uh, I mean- not that you’re not strong! I just need to look strong too, right?” Funny; he seems a lot more nervous than he did last night. Wonder if something got to him, or he’s just now realizing how deep in he is.>(Intimidate) “Be quiet, then, and don’t sweat so much, child.”>Say nothing, let him get it out of his system.>Of course. I’ll do just as you ask.>Is there any particular way to fake a link, then?>Other

>>2906412We have wings though....but i don't know if we can actually use then.
>>2906422we can't, since they become our 'skin' when we come here
>>2906403>Is there any particular way to fake a link, then?>If you are requesting my assistance in teaching you swordmanship or hand-to-hand combat, that would fall under doing what you say. Be warned, I'll only be able to impart the basics to you on our current time frame. Unless you wish to renegotiate? (tilt head, small, evil grin)
>>2906428what is the purpose of that second suggestion?
>>2906425But i remember we removed our clothes in the mafia world. Handler even said that we wouldn't look different but people may notice something is different about us.
>>2906431i think he is trying to tease the boy.
>>2906434To be fair, on that mission we tried to look as normal as possible, but in here we look like a fairy with an eye on our chest. i don't think that we could remove anything that would make us look less scary unless we decide to buy a disguise.>>2906436ok, that makes sense...maybe.
>>2906446i guess...that is a valid point. But a disguise would be useless for something like this in which people will be inspecting us.
>>2906446Oh wait i remember. Saber did the same thing with Shiro because the white knight refused to ne protected by saber and asked her to train him in swordmanship.
>>2906403>>2906412>>2906413>>2906414>>2906422>>2906428“So is there any particular way to fake a link, then?” you ask. Really, if there’s anything that could at least give off the impression, then…He grimaces, but it doesn’t last long. “Well...I mean, I’ve kinda HEARD of it, but not really…” and then his eyes light up. “Wait, though...I wonder…” And with that he dives back to his bed, rummaging under it- and you hear some tinkling of glass as he comes back out, holding what looks like a transparent, slightly frosted glass orb, with a clear hole in it. “So, uh...here’s the orb. It’s kinda SUPPOSED to hold your essence and mine together so that we’re linked for as long as the mana holds out, and I was always told that the orb’s shape is to contain it, but the orb itself is what holds the mana- that’s why there’s all those specks on it, see? Since it’s broken like this, it’d lose mana pretty fast, but...maybe we can fake it for long enough for the inspection to finish? It’s not long at all, and even if the link is weak, we COULD use it- as long as we keep it hidden.” He frowns in thought. “But if they find it...I’m in a lot of trouble. And even if we passed, that’d still be a lot of mana from me to just let drain out...”> Take the orb with you to try and use.> Leave it here and go with Lysan’s story about you.> Other

If the orb needs mana, what about using one of our mana crystals to fake the mana being in there?
>>2906463>> Leave it here and go with Lysan’s story about you.Honestly, if faking it is this hard and the consequences could fail him and thus the mission, I'd rather just go with the story of how his summoning was the exception kind. At least those already have precedents, if albeit rare.
>>2906463> Take the orb with you to try and use. Also, free loot possibly.>>2906458>>2906446Pretty much this, as well as try to bilk a bit more cash out of him.

So can I ask about our narrative now?Do we go with> Super powerful> Powerful> StrongDo we> Win tournament of brawns> barely lose> fail at itThough that one might be dependant on if this guy succeeds at the other trials...And, lastly> try to hint at being abit more powerful than what he can handle> follow his every command> Ignore certain commands that might be unhelpful or badLastly, what attitude?
>>2906463>>2906496>>2906504>>2906511>>2906521You consider a number of options before you- flashing through your mind rapidly considering that you don’t have a lot of time. Shame you can’t just figure out a way to stick this thing back togeth- “Wait.” And then it hits you. “I think I might have a temporary fix to this.” Your magic wouldn’t last forever, but it should last long enough…and so one of your hands glows with gently sparkling magic. “If you don’t mind being a touch late…”There’s a lot of smaller pieces that are virtually un-glueable, but the bigger ones are what you mostly need, considering how your sticky mana seems to work. It should congeal enough that it slides over the large holes for now, and although it’ll dissipate over time, you should be good for at least allowing it to serve its function subtly if he’s careful. After about ten minutes (it IS a rush job), you hand the orb back over to him, the hole in it now ‘matted’ over with a soft green paste-like mana substance. Lysan, for his part, is looking at you with wide, nearly glossy eyes. “This isn’t permanent, but it should hold enough to fake it. Just be VERY careful.”“R-right! Thanks so much!” He looks like he wants to hug you, or it, but either way he quickly finds a towel to wrap it in for safety, leaving only the top half exposed; it’s even glowing slightly from your expenditure. Still hard for you to do...but you think you’ve gotten a bit better idea of how to utilize it. “Now let’s go!”And with that, the two of you head out together at a jog, with him in noticeably much higher spirits.>Current Mana: 10,750/11,000The compound seems to be on the edge of a campus, sensibly enough. You can see several buildings that are certainly for educational purposes- all this for summoning, huh? Wonder what different types there are here…A number of kids and teenagers are talking amongst themselves, most with some level of trepidation. You also can’t help but notice that hovering around a large number of the older kids are a variety of interesting-looking beings...some animalistic, some more human like yourself, some with wings, some not, but all shapes and sizes, in all colors of the rainbow. And as you slow down to walking pace, you notice all of them seem to be giving you a wide berth. As you walk along the pathway, you’re quick to notice that many of the creatures lounging about their masters are quick to glance at you...and that gets the attention of whomever’s near them as they turn their stares on you. While Lysan seems to be almost oblivious of them as he marches on, you can see the worry in their eyes as many take a step back if they’re within a couple of feet of you or him.“Hey, this is great!” He says, turning his head back to you, huffing and puffing a bit. “We just might make it on time!”cont.
>>2906624You’re tempted to point out the sudden silence, before noise breaks through your concentration- the sounds of a fight obvious to your ears. There’s a small ringing noise, and then a few whumps, and as you round the corner to what appears to be a quad area, in the center of it being two summons clashing- or rather, after the fact, as one of them, a pink figure, is face down, being tended to by their summoner, a young boy. Standing tall is a lanky looking thing that reminds you more of a blue praying mantis than anything else, with large, segregated eyes and pincer claws. It also has a scarf for some reason. Right behind it is a heavyset kid, arms folded proudly. “-up, cause if ya can’t even stand up to that, ya might as well quit!” you hear as you approach.A growl comes from nearby, and you’re quick to realize it’s Lysan. “Markus...what a piece. Always obsessed with fighting. Well, he’ll get his soon enough...”However, Markus turns his head, as though he heard him- and maybe he did. “Huh? Eeey, Little Ly-man! How’s our big screw…” And his voice dies out as he sees you. “...up…what the...”This, at least, brings a grin to Lysan’s face as he steps aside to let him see you entirely. “Like her? This is Kyria! Summoned her last night! She’s super powerful, nearly broke the orb coming out!”“No way…” Markus grits his teeth. “Not a no-talent like you! Why, I oughta...” He stops talking when you put a hand on Lysan’s shoulder and speak up.>(Intimidate) “I’d suggest you stop the insults before you see firsthand what I am capable of.”>Let’s just go, Mister Lysan. We’re almost late, aren’t we? Ignore him.

>>2906631>>2906629I say we ignore him because if we show a agressive personality People might try to wonder how Lysan's got us working for him.
>>2906627>Mister Markus. Are you insinuating that I would answer the call of an individual possessing of 'no talent'?>Mister Lysan. We’re almost late, aren’t we? Let this one waste his time with play-fights, I suggest that we be on our way.
Intimidation is best utilized by presence.Especially if servant. More bodyguard style, and less agressor. Though that's just my opinion.
>>2906642Still i don't want to be late. Although checking the fighting system of this world might be usefull. Even if Lysan said that the combat trial is worth just one point.

The next time we take a job with a Narrative Rider, we should confirm the Narrative before we jump in.Apparently Sal does have all this information, we just never ask.

>>2906665The kid was also extremely nervous about the entire thing so it kinda makes sense he didn't had the most clear head at the moment he made the contract. Also does Lysan makes anyone else think on the sheep and lamia girl?
>>2906665A guy who got no idea?Yeah.
>>2906668Pretty much. He is also very prompt to get very nervous and speak his mind when dealling with a situation and trying to get some kind of reconitiong
Actually, taking a breather to get food. Back in an hour or so.
>>2906667Not very, but you do bring up a good question...Handler, how old are these kids? I’m assuming they’re about 15-16 years old, but some clarification would be nice.
>>2906727They're living on their own in dorms. Late teens to early 20's is my guess.
Well in no one else will imma throw my hat in the ring.We should come off as really powerful, though not OP.That would just cause him to be overconfident or do other stupid shit. This culminates in us appearing abit above his level, not ignoring commands, but taking some time evaluating.Preferably not winning the fight, again, overconfidence in having munz to buy a merc.
>>2906623>Super powerful>Win tournament of brawns>follow his every commandAct as if we truly respect him.
>>2906749i still think that going the saber route by pretending that his mana isn't enough to sustaing us so we will slowly fade away because we can't keep our manas in harmony.Or he could just say that the orb broke and we got pulled out of the world after that
>>2906779I support this anon. Lets play it straight.
>>2906836No thanks. That’ll just give him a big head. He’ll be totally unprepared for when we have to leave.Better for him to gain some respect, but not enough for people to expect a lot more out of him after this tournament is over.
>>2906912Not exactly our problem we are only forced to stay until we complete the contract.Saying that i wouldn't mind in most spoilling this kid even more.
>>2906912>He’ll be totally unprepared for when we have to leaveThat's literally not our problem. Either he'll make it or he will crash down.
>>2906912That's the fun part though. After the job is over it's not our problem, he shouldn't cheat. It's a life lesson
Or, he’ll be forced to mortgage his family’s holdings in order to pay for another contractor from the Intersection. The Dealmakers won’t mind because it means repeat business.
>>2906931>>2906937So we just leave him in a lurch, then?Alright, I guess. Maybe we push him far enough that he’ll try to renege on the contract? Then we can go looting for an evening.
>>2906954Or since he's such a nervous wreck and knows that he fucked up by cheating he'll tone it down or come clea- hahah yeah I suppose not. But with a little luck he'll realize what an awful situation he put himself in when he sees what a monster he summoned
>>2906954>So we just leave him in a lurch, then? Not really. Its just the nature of our job and that we act like genies at times. We tend to grant them what they want, but if they are dumb, they won't be able to keep what they got with our help. >Maybe we push him far enough that he’ll try to renege on the contract? If he is stupid enough, he might try to keep us as a forceful summon. That would be fun.
>>2906960>sees what a monster he summonedAre we going Full-Lethal for these duels? Or just till knockout? Because I want to see the fear in people’s eyes when they see us kill with just our hands.
>>2906964We should ask, and really play up the intimidation when we do. We picked the best job, this is going to be fun
>>2906964Knock-out. This is a whimsical 'happy' world. we don't need to bring uneeded attention. Also that would definitely break the narrative rider.
>>2906969It is but our client never specified what kind of summon we should play as.
You know what i think it will happen? This will be a classic case of the meek secondary charavter that gets corrupted by power until he realizes what he has summoned to this world and we will obviously fight the main characters. Probably his friend the girl he mentioned whatever her name was.
>>2906975we have common sense and have previous knowledge though. Killing summons makes it harder to keep the narrative stable and makes it harder for us to get paid.
>>2906978We'll find a good opportunity to ask, preferably where the opponent and onlookers can hear.
Can we pick an evil villain wanting to take over the world for the next job? And once he realizes that all that will be left of the world is nothing but ash and dust (because he worded the contract as “annihilating his enemies, the Warriors of Light and the kingdoms that oppose him), and he doesn’t have the cash to pay for the Minimal Collateral Damage Rider (because we want to be paid in cold, hard cash, not the souls of sacrificed innocents or the blood of virgins), he tries to get the Heroes to kill us, thereby voiding the contract (then we tell him he could have cancelled it at any time with no penalty) so we go on a killing/looting spree that leaves civilization in ruins for the next thousand years.
>>2906978>>2907008Of course the point is to intimidate by causally asking like it doesn't matter to us at all what the rules are.
>>2907011Yes. Yes we can. I've been wanting to do that for a long time too, it'll be great fun
>>2907011Personally, I’d like to just stick to looting the guy who hired us, but that’s just me.
>>2907011>not the souls of sacrificed innocents or the blood of virginsConversion to Motes is based on perceived value, not absolute numbers. It's the reason medieval kings and international corporations can pay us enough to sting without bankrupting themselves. Remember when we shook down the flower MGs their momentos were worth Motes?
>>2906978i mean as far as we know when a summon is defeated he just retreat to the orb to re-charge. But i won't mind playing the intimidating evil summon.Uh just realized we are rider and this boy is Shinji Matou.
>>2907041Sal said he doesn't deal with souls. Only money.
>>2907045Miranda is the one that doesn't deal in souls, not Sal.
>>2906627“Let’s go, Mister Lysan,” you say pointedly as you affix the belligerent young man with a steady gaze. “We’re almost late, aren’t we?” As if to answer your question, a gentle, yet clear chime rings throughout the quad- likely signaling class start. As expected, Markus recoils slightly at your gaze, and you see his big bug friend start to move in front of him. However, you make no move to antagonize them any further. “Let’s leave him be, and be on our way.” Lysan hesitates for just a moment, before nodding, turning away and heading into the nearest building, with you following. You’re almost sure he didn’t notice the pin-drop silence during that brief interaction.More speed walking down halls, and you’re eventually brought to a large, indoor auditorium area where a number of kids- some with summons- others seemingly not- are having casual conversation. As you approach, however, a hush falls over the crowd as person and summon alike take a look at you. It’s only then you realize something. The eyes. Everyone other summon has bright eyes- either humanlike with pupils, or ranging from a solid white to a gentle blue. You checked in the mirror this morning, and yours are...darker. A deep blue, nearing black, actually.Damnit, you really should’ve asked for more details on this crap. Nonetheless, no one seems to faint in your presence (although two twin girls and a reedy guy seem about ready to), so…cont.
>>2907026We could just arm force him saying that if he wabt to change something he will need to pay extra. Like changing that we should make him win at any cost or something like that.
>>2907041Yeah, but souls are an absolute moral line that Miranda won’t cross, per MGHandler’s own words. As for blood, that would depend on whether that actually has enough worth to that world. Though remember that the Analis Relay, the ancient artifact that was an empire’s superweapon powering their unstoppable conquest of the world, came out to about 7 Motes, not enough to cover the cost of shipping it to the Intersection/conversion.
>>2907043Wow way to fucking ruin it. Couldn't you have said Yuuji and Shana or something?
>>2907050Oh god we are a evil/demonic summon. lol
>>2907057Sorry i only watched the first fate...my knowledge of it is lacking.
>>2907060The kid is too dumb/behind on his studies to realize it, but the professor is probably going to freak out. And we’ll need to placate him, probably with some even more evil-sounding excuse like “You have nothing to fear. The agencies to which I am bonded have seen to it that I am a summon of Mr. Lysan; their bond is beyond reproach, our contract sealed by the void and guaranteed by their word.”
>>2907064I guess the question if we are a powerfull summon just got anwsered...
>>2907050This is going to be fun.
>>2907066Nah those names aren't from fate, but shakugan no Shana. First that came to mind with similar setting and dynamic. I wouldn't call my worst enemy Shinji
>>2907050>Mister Lysan>not Master Lysanaw....But overall this seems to be going in a hilarious direction, Haha!
>>2907050“L...Lysan?” a girl off to the right asks carefully. “W-what level of summon is THAT?”One particular girl- this one dark-haired, with a ponytail and a shining silver necklace- just facepalms. “Can’t believe he did it…”Before any more can come of this, however, someone steps in, and all (human) eyes immediately move to her, everyone quickly assembling in a single file line, summons behind them. You take to a similar place as well behind Lysan.“Attention, class,” she says somewhat unnecessarily. She’s a tall, wized lady, grey haired and with a notable scar on her left eye, shaped like a thunderbolt. She is in a red and silver version of the uniform and tabard, and stuck to the left of her torso is a pin, or perhaps a badge, of what looks like a snake surrounded by wisps of smoke...hard to tell at this distance. “I am glad to see all you young Potentiates here this morning. I trust you have all had a good night’s- sleep.” that singular hitch you barely catch as her eyes lock with you for all of a brief second. However, she’s just as quick to tear her gaze away, sparing a quick glance at Lysan before continuing on. “As you know, the Summoner Exams begin today. You will all undergo the tests necessary to prove if you understand exactly what being a summoner is, and the rights and responsibilities thereof. As of now, we will be watching closely every aspect of your relationship with your summoned, and judge your bond in matters both mundane and martial. I will not be proctoring the tests, but I WILL be conducting investigations as to the veracity of said bonds. I can see a few individuals with new faces behind them…” Again, a glance at you. “And so in the interest of fairness, and understanding of severity of falsehood, all will be tested here and now. We start with...Lysan. And...his summon. Tell me its name, would you?”As expected, he goes a shade white, but swallows and nods. “Y-yes Miss Tandal, uh, she’s...she’s K-Kyria.”“Kyria, then. Step forth.” The two of you do so, and she makes a motion with her hand. “Your summoning orb, please.”“Okay…” Taking it out, still in its bundle, he presents it to the old lady, who looks over it with a wide, searching eye. Gently laying a finger on it, she hmms to herself. “Curious. It feels...congested.”cont.
>>2907073What if, just, what if we try to not intentionally sound evil as fuck? I want that pay goddammit, and last this happened, we almost failed the job. We only continued because some anon
>>2907094Well, we’ve got an A- on intimation, so it’s going to be very hard...
>>2907094Oh man, I wasn't there for it, but when I read that part of the quest I was happily expecting some fun teasing kids from the start. Yet at the end I was simply glad the mission was completed at all. Regardless of the reason why the tactics were chosen, the psychological trauma inflicted was not fun at all to read. I mean looking scary is fun, but being scary vs people that doesn't deserve is not so fun.
>>2907090>We literaly filled the orb with just our mana.Okay if this was a anime and i saw this this would raise mutiples alarm bells in my head.
>>2907106Basically means we can say "don't worry" and they'll eat it up. What are they going to do, challenge us on it?But let's see how this goes first
>>2907090“C-congested?” Lysan blurts out. “Yes...surprisingly. I had expected it to feel weak, or perhaps nonexistent.” She glares at him. “I do STRONGLY wonder how you managed such a feat of summoning considering your prior performance…”“I-I just tried my hardest…” He shrugs. "Y-you know how much I want to pass."There a tense, pregnant silence...before she speaks. “I trust you will show the expected and required control over such an individual, yes? That I, nor the principal, nor the board will not have to get involved?”“A-Absolutely not, ma’am!” He salutes. And then she turns to you. "I know not your sins nor your glories. But know this. Should any severe harm come to my charges or anyone else due to your actions, I and Nyx will rend your spirit asunder and personally cast your remaining essence into the Stream. Am I clear?" Her face is stone, and you can tell she means every word. She doesn't even wait for a response. "I and Proctor Lucia will be keeping a close eye on you both. Pass. For now." She then calls up the next in line, finally allowing him and you to walk (him rather briskly) to the line. “Yessss…” he whispers to himself as he finally lets go a breath he'd been holding. The darker the eyes the stronger, y’know? You’re probably like, level four out of five when most summons are zero to two...” He looks side to side, but doesn’t say anything further as another kid walks up to get tested. So… the eyes tell the tale, huh? Yeah, that’d explain it. He doesn’t elaborate further, sadly, and you know you can’t get his attention without getting someone else’s in the meantime. Eventually, all of the kids, 26 in all, are tested, and all are found clear. “No cheaters in this bunch, it seems,” Miss Tandal says primly. “Excellent. In that case, you have approximately...a half hour before the first exam begins. That exam, I am allowed to tell you, will be the Test of Clarity. Perhaps take this time to prepare yourselves. Proctor Lucia will be awaiting you all at the Yellow Grove. Dismissed!”With that, she walks out, and everyone immediately sighs in relief, turning to their own cliques yet again- many of them, you can gather through snippets, talking about-“You!” Suddenly, that same ponytailed girl marches over and gives Lysan a sharp rap on the head. “You idiot, what do you think you’re doing?! I can’t believe you actually did...that! Do you know just what you risked for a summon like that?! Your life! Not to mention the entire freakin’ school has probably got something to say! I swear, I can’t believe you sometimes!” Hm. Judging by the way he’s cowing, mayhaps you should interfere...or eh, maybe not. >>2907278>(Humor?) “Perhaps I and your summon should permit you two privacy?”
Aaand locked. We're at least saying something.Narrative Rider can be interpreted a number of ways depending on the client's specifications. All he specified was 'you have to do what I say'. Didn't say anything about attitude.
>>2907330Wait. We only have to do as he says? We don’t have to maintain an act or anything beyond that he has a complete control over us?Shit, we need to reread the contract and its riders; that should be on our FutureSight, right?
>>2907336He didn't specify a specific act, you don't need to put on a specific act. I do apologize, I thought that was clear enough at the beginning. My fault. But point is, you can act however you like within reason. It's like how you decided for subtle imperiousness with the training mission- I didn't enforce that, y'all came up with it and stuck to it.
>>2907336Apparently yeah. He at least made sure of that part.
I just realized that we can easily bankrupt thia world if everyone finds out about being able to summon well summons like us.
>>2907343By put on an act, I meant act like a local summon, use their vernacular, and act in a way that seems local. As he said, the summoning test regulations don’t prohibit him getting us the way he did, so us trying to act like a local isn’t stipulated by the Narrative Rider. We might have to do it for other reasons, but not because of the Narrative.
>>2907347I dunno about that. It seems like is way cheaper to summon a normal one than one of us. Everyone with two brain cells will get that immediately and only contact us in dire situations
i still want to try and find our if we can use our wings to fly.
>>2907278>>2907289>>2907297>>2907311>>2907317>>2907318All things considered, this is probably the most entertain thing that’s happened in the past couple of days, as she pinches his ears. “You brainless little- stop squirming, this is the LEAST I can do to you!”You can’t resist. “Perhaps I and your summon should allow you two privacy?” you say in the flattest tone possible. She immediately turns to you in surprise, as Lysan moans. “Aw no…”“Would that be a good idea, I wonder?” The butterfly thing (actually no, that’s more of a moth, really because of the furred antennae) speaks in a giggling whisper. “I fear your charge may be at my own’s mercy if we were to…abscond.”“No, no no no, it’s fine...maybe should’ve expected a sense of wit from you…” she mutters, before speaking up louder. “Hey, so, like...you’re not gonna break loose and eat his heart our or anything, right? He kinda needs that.”“Owowowow, it’s fine, Iris! I’m not hurt or anything and she listens to me just fine!” Lysan wails.“That doesn’t mean it wasn’t DANGEROUS! Besides...you just got her last night, right?” She finally lets go of his ear and looks at him carefully. “You might have a Link, sure, but have you two even sparred? You’re gonna get MULCHED in the Might Tournament!”“Augh…owww...” he’s still rubbing his ear, that was such a pinch. “I don’t HAVE to win that, y’know. Teach said I got potential, I’m just...unskilled. So I figure if I can make it through the first three, we can just kinda...forfeit the last one if we need to.”“What?” And her AND the butterfly thing (actually no, that’s more of a moth, really...furred antennae) both seem to blink at him. “Why would you...you dunce, that’s like the most important one!”“Wha?” Kinda what you were thinking, too. “What do you mean? They’ve always said that the Test of Might is just like the others…”She scoffs. “To the school, maybe, but not to like, EVERYONE ELSE who comes to these- or did you think that all those super strong guides and bodyguards and soldiers just got picked up off the street?” “...Nnnnkinda?” he shrugs- and even you can see the dope slap coming this time.“No! Everyone comes to those because they want to see how strong a summoner and their preferred Linked summon is. There’s ALWAYS recruits for businesses and the military and everything that shows up to those, even if they don’t advertise it!” Makes sense enough. “There’s even been times where someone’s failed the exams but got picked up by a business because they won the tournament, at least!”cont.
>>2907373>MothMILF summon...I wonder if we could summon from inside the Intersection...
>>2907373Lucky for him, we're pretty good in a scrape. We shouldn't have an issue in the tourney.>>2907349>As he said, the summoning test regulations don’t prohibit him getting us the way he did,I missed that bit. Why did he want the narrative rider if it's legal to hire a summon?
>>2907349>the summoning test regulations don’t prohibit him getting us the way he didExcept we haven't got a link to him.
I think it would be a bad idea in the long term if we actually won the tournament. I mean, it would give everyone an unrealistic expectation of the competency of Lysan, possibly putting him in a dangerous position later. Of course, it wouldn’t be our problem at that point so....
>>2907383Nee to scan those orbs first bro.
>>2907395I'll settle for him beating Markus. That should be enough for him without having too much attention brought to us.
>>2907395I mean he said he wanted a summon and he wanted us to make him pass the test. If he wants to drop it he might need to change the contract...
>>2907395Winning the tournament is the one thing we should do, if nothing else. He's already set expectations high by "summoning" us, and he might not even need to pass anything else if he wins.
>>2907385What he did is a valid summon, but not legal.
>>2907373And it’s only just now that the weight of it all seems to sink in. “...oh. Ohhhhh man…”Iris sighs. “You’re hopeless. Well, look, you got what looks like a level four or so out of your suicide stunt, so hey, who knows. Now come on!” And before he can argue, she’s grabbed him by the arm and is leading him out of the auditorium. You follow at a casual pace. He doesn’t seem in any harm.“W-wait, where are we going?!” he yells frantically. She huffs. “You’re at least going to get some practice in. Now stop struggling!”Oh. Huh. Well, about time.A couple minutes later, you’re at what looks to be a training area, with weights, dummies, a tightrope over a mud pit, the works. Once you arrive, that’s when she finally lets go of Lysen’s hand. “So, what does she do?”“Uhh…” He looks away, but it seems like Iris doesn’t notice.“C’mon, no reason to be shy. At least give me something basic like ‘Freakishly Strong, or ‘Can use the wind,’ or something,” she prompts. He goes cherry red as he realizes his folly. “I, uh…yeahhh…uh…”The look of disapproval she gives him is severe enough to almost make you feel sorry for him. However, she just closes her eyes and shakes her head. “You’ve had practice, so you should be able to at least tell enough by your Link with her. Just focus.”“Right…” Ah. So that’s partially what that does. Well, considering he doesn’t have one…>Honestly, there should still be some mana left. He didn't know what it was and once he read it he must have though that we would be forced by the contract to act the way he wanted. >>2907506Agreed to not call her bad at it, iirc she's pretty good at mostly any weapon. But I do think she should focus of fisticuffs
>>2907513>>2907519I just don't get why people would want to just rely on fisticuffs. It gets boring for me to just have Miranda either use spells or hand-to-hand all the time. >>2907519You know, something I've always wondered yet also always forgotten, is if Miranda prefers using her fist, then why doesn't she have a gauntlet to use? I mean we all know she's tough and strong to begin with, but surely something that augments her punches further directly and protecting her hands from things that are harder than her hands would be fitting right?
>>2907543This is about pretending too be a local summons.
>>2907562well, that's the idea behind the magic knuckles.
>>2907568I was referring to when we're generally on missions.>I'll stop here, don't want to get into another axe argument....Darn it...
>>2907562It's because she does't need one. Gauntlets and such protect the wearer, allowing them to be more aggressive, they don't add much actual attack power.
Gonna be honest, I kinda fell asleep, so I'm gonna put this on hold until tomorrow. Niiight.
>>2907688Night, boss. Hope you'll be alright tomorrow.
>>2907591Actually, shield gauntlets might be really useful. Not on jobs where we’re a walking WMD, but ones where the enemy has machine guns and magitech SMG’s. Remember that we’ve essentially been taking scrub jobs compared to the high tech/high magic worlds that Miranda has been to, where we’re just another spec op agent and only hired because we’re the most deniable of assets.
>>2907760An actual shield or body armor would be better in those cases. A solid shield would be much better at actual protection, and would be a reasonable melee weapon. Body armor might be a bit bulky, but it would protect much more than gauntlets.
>>2907789I think a projected energy shield, whether from the gauntlets or something else, would be more versatile. One that can work against energy weapons, physical weapons, and magic. Even better if it can operate independently of our arms.
>>2907789hmmm, didn't we ask owlia for something like that several missions ago? she also was making something for lorelei for that matter.
>>2907853That would be great, but we can already do that for a considerable mana investment. An item with similar functionality wouldn't be cheap. Something with more limited functionality might be a more reasonable price.>>2907866We've talked about dozens of things we could (or have) asked her for, but she's only one person, whose also running Courier jobs in addition to any lab work. After all the time we've had her, she's given us only a couple of things.
>>2907883it doesn't hurt to ask her, because time runs very different on the intersection and Owlia is the kind of people that will work three days nonstop, crash for one full day and forget about her finished work. She might be sitting on the items and just forgot to tell us about them
>>2907883>An item with similar functionality wouldn't be cheapI was actually thinking of mana amplifiers; crystal-tech or otherwise that can amplify a small amount (relatively) of mana to project a shield. Or general-purpose amplifiers, that can let us cast a known spell for a fraction of the cost.
>>2907883>>2907894Owlia and Cylica also need that lab upgrade we couldn't get them. And since we're only making 12 Motes on this job, it's going to take more time before we can get them that upgrade.
>>2907981I don't get your point, because everyone chips in for the upgrades. Also the upgrades are for more specific stuff the duo wants to make, not to the things we asked them to do before.
>>2907997Everyone chips in, so we should have sent Mono, Lorelei, and Izumi on their missions, since we're a manager now. And the more Motes we have, the more we could contribute. The less a job pays out, the longer it will take for us to be able to contribute meaningfully to an upgrade, especially as not everyone has to contribute. Finally we didn't ask them what they needed to make what we asked them for, or if the upgrade would make it easier/faster for them to make what we want them to make.
>>2908009>Everyone chips in, so we should have sent Mono, Lorelei, and Izumi on their missions, since we're a manager now.Which are things they do in automatic in the background, since they are responsible adults that also have dues to pay (and Handler gave us a rough estimate of how much they do per thread or -in Cylica's case- per given amount of posts). We don't need to manage that.>And the more Motes we have, the more we could contribute. The less a job pays out, the longer it will take for us to be able to contribute meaningfully to an upgrade, especially as not everyone has to contribute. How insightful. I thought we took this job just because we could and not because it was the more appropriate one when you consider the reward and the amount of work we have to do. How silly of me.>Finally we didn't ask them what they needed to make what we asked them for, or if the upgrade would make it easier/faster for them to make what we want them to make.If Owlia couldn't do it, then she should have told us so. Either way, there are other things that are higher or have the same level of priority as the Lab upgrade.
What the last thread archived? I don't see it on http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Magical%20Girl%20For%20Hire%20Quest
For the Trial of Might we don't necessarily need to fight do we? If we could scare the piss out of the opponents summons and force concession it might work out better. Interested to see if we can end a job without punching something for once.

I think the only reason Miranda doesn't have combat enhancing gloves is because we didnt invest in it, though the case have been brought up before it just didnt amount to anythingAnd im not saying only ude fists, it's fine to train other things too. But in life or death situations? Use your best imo
>>2908655I think that she's had the enhanced strength for so long that she has never had a reason to require gauntlets for power or defense. When you can explode buildings with your fists you don't really have to worry about scrubbing your knuckles. And you use what's best in the situation, Miranda can probably hold her own with any weapon if it isn't too exotic. Partly because superhuman strength and speed makes up for the skill difference quite well
I do wonder how things will pander out.I hope there will be an alternative to the tournament, like a BBEG that shows up so we can prove our worth in no way measureable or something.Wonder if he will ask us if we should help him acctually learn to summon. As compared to cheat. Would definitly make him a smarter boi than other evil doers which failed to specify dealing with the heroes once we did our mission.
>>2908685Well, it’s a tournament in a setting that resembles an anime academy for youths with unique powers, so there’s a moderate chance that there’ll be some sort of terrorist attack by the BBEG. Just have to wait and see.
We should pick up some of those summoning orbs things. Maybe something to make this an ACCTUAL worth while trip.Motes are one thing, but we all know getting sum gud shit is what we acctually came here for.
>>2908722It might break the Riders, and we've never been allowed to stay longer than the end of a contract.
>>2908756We were able to hold the debrief off for a night out on the town for the Artificer crossover, so it might not be impossible generally, but the whole “Follow Orders” thing is a problem. >>2908756Well until we are explicitly told to NOT do it it might be within our permission. As in the same fashion we could either tell off the little angry boi, or could have just ignored him. After all, we are dealing with a person that might very well be fucked over if they made a deal with a demon. Not saying we are, just pointing out the facts.
>>2908722Summoning is likely world-specific, as you'd need a connection to where you're summoning from. Unless we've been seeing the same types of summons across multiple jobs, I doubt any summoning items would work off-world.
>>2908797We won’t know for sure until we research the stuff with the Future Sight.
Why is everyone trying to get a summon ball? It looks like its universe specific, it also looks like you need to train several years to be competent at it, and we are already almost as powerful as the strongest summons here. In my opinion its not really worth it.
>>2908809Why does everyone keep trying to ask the FutureSight for specific details like that? That's not what it;'s for.
>>2908818Because sometimes it knows that kind of stuff and it doesn't hurt to ask.
>>2908818We used it on the mission for the Anais Relay. It told us about it’s capabilities and mote worth. I don’t see how this is any different.
>>2908812We must have The Shiny, and until something bigger and shinier presents itself, this is It.
>>2908823The relay was an ancient mythical artifact, capable of something unheard of in-world. The summoning balls are a non-unique means of performing a standard magic. Not even slightly the same. The FutureSight might have some broad strokes on the general workings of summoning here, not the detailed underpinnings.
>>2908929We could at least pick up some summoning balls. Just cause.
>>2908929I would assume that a common use item in a particular world that holds some sort of value there would be easier to get information for then some sort of legendary relic that had been lost to the ages and only recently recovered (and still had a low mote value), but whatever. In any case, the absolute worst thing that’ll happen is that the Future Sight won’t know or give it a low mote value, and it’ll be solved in a short paragraph by MGHandler. Which is fine. So let people who are interested in figuring out what’s valuable here get a chance to do so.

Who knows?...After about 2 minutes of him looking less like he’s trying to cast something and more like he’s trying to pass something, you decide you should speak up. “It may be more prudent to show my skills in a more direct fashion.”She scratches the back of her head in consideration. “Yeeeah...might just not be able to figure you out because you’re so strong. At least, that’s my guess.” As Lysan stops trying, going into a pant, you can hear the girl mutter under her breath ‘I knew this would be trouble…’But she straightens up again, looking at you. “Okay, so! We need to get you some practice in ASAP. Won’t be long, but me and Bellbelle can at least give you some suggestions- plus her powers are pretty hand for this sort of thing anyway.”Bellbelle, the moth, flutters its wings in understanding- and perhaps no little apprehension. “D-do you think so, Miss? Then I’ll perform to the best of my ability!” The duo then move to a more open area nearby, and you and Lysan follow. “Alright, let’s just keep this as a warm-up since we got, like fifteen minutes. Worth getting loose for the exam anyway. Bellbelle, ready?”“Yes, ma’am!” she responds. “Our Link is strong!” Bellbelle stretches her wings- and then takes flight, flittering up and over her summoner- and revealing her legs. Long, sharp, and pointed, ready to do battle. Further up her body, there’s also a pair of what looks like thin, yet likely sturdy jointed arms, although the tips coming out of them that should be the hands seem round, making the extremities bulbous in nature.“Any time you’re ready, Ly!” Iris says as she assumes a battle stance. Alright...this is at least a bit more familiar. “We’ll let you make the first move!”It seems like Lysan has recovered a bit, too, even as he fixes you, then them with a nervous “O-okay...Kyria, let’s go!”>Action!>Lead off with low powered magi-blasts. Like it suddenly gained the consistency of rubber or putty.“H-h-how fast...how strong…” you hear Bellbelle groan as she tries to right herself, her wings flapping erratically.“I can’t...what happened?” Iris asks as she gently tries to pry Bellbelle out. “Did she just get past your field?” Field? She must mean that tingling feeling…“N-no...she was affected…but…” She looks over at you again, seemingly heedless of your own attentions.“Even softened, she’s that fast and strong…geez, Ly, what did you bring here?!” Iris asks heatedly even as Bellbelle recovers. Although, ‘softening’? Is that what that tingling was?“Uh- I- well...she’s okay, right?” Ly asks, seemingly unsure whether to gawk at you or look chagrined at them. “She won’t hit so hard again, I promise!”To your surprise, Bellbelle shakes her head. “N-no...I’m okay. I just...I-I wasn’t expecting that level of power...please, we can try again. There...” there’s a pause, and you have to guess that she would’ve swallowed nervously if she could. “We can continue. I’ll be fine.”Yeah, stubborn. “As you say, then.” With that, you ready your rapier, and wait for her to return to her position, which she does with only slightly uneven fluttering.Iris seems a lot more nervous now, although you guess you can’t blame her. “I’ll be ready this time. I’ll back you up,” she says resolutely. Bellbelle just nods.“A-alright, if you guys are sure…” Lysan says. “One more time, then! You guys first!” Hm. Not a fan of that, but...fair’s fair, you suppose. They nod, and this time Bellbelle seems to light up with energy, before flying forward. It’s nowhere near as fast as your own movement, and as she thrusts her bulb-fist forward, you’re quick to meet it with the flat of your blade, and the dance begins properly. This time, Bellbelle’s occasionally impacted by your blade, only for you to see a flash of pink, and for Bellbelle to fight on without any scrapes or injuries. Force pushes her, to be sure, but there’s no visible lasting damage. A quick glance behind her shows Iris’s hand outstretched, glowing faintly with mana. More of that symbiotic relationship, then…A change in position lets you see that Lysan is doing it as well- although you don’t doubt his output is strictly for show. Before long, there’s that tingling again, though, and though you fight through it, it’s causing some concern as you cede some ground. “It’s hard to believe…” Bellbelle whispers as she parries a strike from your blade. “...you should be feeling a bit sluggish right now, perhaps exhaustion, imbalance, but…” a dodge, and a ripost that you get well out of the way of. “You’re fighting like it’s nothing!” It’s not nothing, you can say that honestly. You’ve just got a good poker face. However, before you can say so out loud, you’re both caught off guard by a sudden yell from a female student. “HEY! Iris! You’re gonna be laaaate!”Almost immediately, the two of you stop your sparring and look over at a number of students heading off in a specific direction. Had it really been that long already? “Dangit! We hardly got anywhere!” Iris complains. “Although...considering what a brute you are- especially for your size…”‘H-hey, don’t worry about it!” Lysan interjects. “C’mon, let’s just get to the fields. Follow me, Kyria!” Like you could do much else.cont.
>>2911082“WEEEELLLL, HELLO THERE!” Comes the voice of a lady with a bit too wide of a grin on her face as the students come together. THANK THE NEW POLICIES IMPLEMENTED LAST SEMESTER!”A number of murmurs go up at this news. Seems like it wasn’t expected…“WELL? YOU’RE NOT GONNA FIND ANY STANDING AROUND HERE!” And like swept rats the crowd scatters off in a number of different directions...Iris included.“Aw, crud!” Lysan swears as he looks around, unsure of where to start. “Okay, okay, gem apples, gem apples, where could they be...Cafeteria? Why not start in the doctor’s office?”He gasps in realization, and without a word takes off like a shot, yourself close behind him. He has to race down a few halls, dodging a number of lower-year students, before he darts into a pair of doors. Over them, as you expect, is ‘Medical Ward’.A quick look at the nearby reception desk shows no apple to speak of. Lysan snaps his fingers in frustration. “Rats. Well, she said it was in someone’s possession, so maybe…”“Hello there, do you have an appointme- gracious!” Almost immediately a lady you can only guess is the local nurse or doctor rounds the corner, locking eyes with you for maybe a second, and then flipping back around the corner. At the very least, Lysan’s quick to realize. “Oh, wait, no, Miss Maple! It’s me, Lysan! This is my summon!”“Y-what? Your summon?” She peeks her head out- long hair, with bifocals, and you give a little bow in return. “Oh...my.” Stepping out fully, she clears her throat, trying to gain some control of the conversation. “Ah...right then. So, er...what might you need me for?”“Well, it’s exam time, and we were wondering if maybe you had one of the Gem Apples…” he explains. “I mean, if you don’t, it’s okay, just.”“Ahhhh, that whole thing.” And NOW her look turns a bit impish. “I have to say that in fact I do.”At that, his eyes light up. “You do!? Awesome! Can- uh, may we have it? Please?”“Hmm...perhaps.” Smirking, she gives a single, trilling whistle. Suddenly, there’s a thin, purple haze that seems to seep into the room as something rounds the corner. It takes some moments before you realize that the haze has eyes, and it’s a bit more dense than it looks, coalescing into something that vaguely resembles some sort of skunk. “Misteria, it seems we have our assistants for the next hour or two.”cont.

We’re so swamped, you really think we can just give these over for free?” she chuckles. “Don’t worry. So long as you’ve kept up on your studies, this won’t be a problem at all. I have to agree- whether he did it or not, if she's as strong as you impress, I have no doubt that she could run rampant if she so chose. >>2912237All the more reason to avoid making a scene.I wonder if, as a perceived level four, we're considered high level, or only mid for proper summoners. If things go tits up, it'd be a rather unpleasant shock to think we can fight our way out and to be mobbed by level tens or something.Though I wonder if our "level" is reflective of our actual power-level.
>>2912305Well, Lysan did say that the summons are usually level 1 or 2. Don't know if that is applied just for students though.
>>2912305>it'd be a rather unpleasant shock to think we can fight our way out and to be mobbed by level tens or something. That situation was actually one of Miranda’s early spectacular job failures. She went into a job thinking she was hot shit because she’s from the Intersection, then got curbstomped by the locals and was a millisecond from dying when Sal pulled her out.
>>2912319Didn’t he say that students are normally level 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 is the regular working summoners?
>>2912340If I'm interpreting >>2907278>level four out of five right, the highest level generally known about is 5, but I woudn't be suprised if a level 5 summon is equivalent to an A rank outgoer
>>2912319>>2912340>The darker the eyes the stronger, y’know? You’re probably like, level four out of five when most summons are zero to two...Checking, it’s vague, but it does seem that the most powerful summon is a Level 5, and we’re a 3 to 4. So we can smash our way through a majority of mooks but there’s going to be someone stronger than us here.
>>2912305Might be more suspicious if we didn't at least test the leash a little, though this is all just metagaming now.
>>2912366Could just show we are the more agressive type or we just like to bully our summoner.
>>2912366I'm sure we'll end up in that kind of situation even if we don't try to "test the leash". It's the natural outcome for letting us vote on what to do. Somebody will do a seemingly good and innocent write-in which gets a lot of support and then it turns out it was the worst thing we could possibly do.
>>2912366Yea, these glimpses are fun, but they are abusable.
>>2912490Maybe, but in this case I doubt it will make a difference.>>2912366It will most likely have eventually come to that just because our employer seems to be green as grass and he might give us a terrible order that we'll decide is absolutely retarded and do our own thing instead which from my limited understanding is not really a thing with the summoning system here.
>>2912160I don't think you add to the threads quality. You wanted recognition, you got it. 50 plus threads without people putting on names, but you come in wanting to be special.I find it distasteful at best and mildly disruptive. >>2912305>>2907278> You’re probably like, level four *out of five* when most summons are zero to two
>>2912305Alternatively- have we considered extortion? Simply revealing ourselves to be unique in our money grubbing nature as a summons, and get the officials to pay the minimum damage rider?
>>2912774Pretty sure that would break the Narrative Rider we've been placed under.
>>2912774why do you want to make this harder than what it already is?
>>2912802Not in this particular case actually, we just have to follow his orders.>>2912774Let's not.Anyone else's captcha getting weird lately?
>>2912855It was giving me trouble a couple of days ago, but a refresh fixed it.
>>2912855I haven't had to enter captcha for several weeks but since like last week I've had to solve them a few times a day
>>2912774I've got an idea for how to keep the schools administration from trying to kill us.If/When pressed on who we are, how we're so powerful, and/or what our intentions are, we can simply state that, yes, we are a rather powerful being but we became so powerful by following the orders/commands of our patron(s) and as such we will follow Lysan's orders.Best part about it is that this would be entirely true to any Zone of Truth-type magical effects and it firmly establishes Lysan's role as 'being in control' despite how things actually are.
>>2912891Or we keep it way more simple and say that we found it amusing to be the summon of a kid that has no right or might to control us. Because its true.
>>2912904Keep in mind that we're trying to get our dude to pass his exams, not to be expelled for summoning demons or something.
>>2912917So? Getting stronger by following orders sounds way more implausible than just following the kid just because we want.
>>2912891"It's amusing"Solved it.I don't think they'll confront us about it anyway, unless we do something incredibly stupid. If they are worried about our power then they don't want to provoke in case their fears are realised
>>2912927I mostly have an issue with implying that the only reason we're doing what the guy is saying is because we find it entertaining and not because he is in actual control.
>>2912929>"I also find quite cute the way he squirms and coils like a cute little puppy..."
>>2913013But if he entertains us wouldn't that mean he is the only that can keep us under control?
>>2913031Ok cool and then he stops being entertaining. What then? Do we just poof out of reality, find someone that is entertaining or do we go on some sort of rampage? That's the kind of question they'll be asking themselves unless they believe our dude's magical kill switch / command orb actually works. So I'd like to keep it cool with the unnecessary implications.
>>2913064You're reading so much to into this. No one is keeping a finger on the nuclear button
>>2913064We can just say: "Dunno so far he has being quite fun. Hopefully he won't stop so soon."Also apparently summoner can have mutiple links since Iris said this is for summoner with their FAVORITE links.
>>2913064If anything this could be the excuse for us dissapearing. He found we were unable to control so he broke the orb and so breaking the link with us.
>>2913064>Do we just poof out of reality, find someone that is entertaining...yes.
>>2913073I'm not saying that, I'm saying that we should be careful to not get disqualified from the exams because of safety concerns or something.>>2913079I am aware, but I'm not so sure about the staff. And yes I know we're not gonna get screwed over for not shadowruning hard enough, but I really would like it if we don't mention that our dude is not in control.
>>2913064We could say we were interested in plying our strength against some of the other summons in the fighting tournament. It's easy enough for the professors to believe, and I know I am.
>>2913106It would be worst for then to cancel because if they do we will DEFINETLY go into a rampage because they are expolling our fun.I doubt the staff is willing to risk angering us, all the important people comming to watch the tournament. They would most likely increase/up the security but they wouldn't stop it.
>>2913107That sounds like bullshit, specially since we are obviously way more powerful than most summons here.
>>2913124The keyword being MOST summons. Just because we're the strongest doesn't mean there won't be any challengers. Probably one or two students have third level summons, and clever tactics can outwit a stronger opponent.
>>2913124If we go that route, we don't have to know that most are weaker. We just knew it was a tournament and decided to get a foot in
>>2913141If anything we will easily curl the herd and only the strong ones/smart ones will be able to get a job after our showmanship.
>>2913123Look.This is why I said extort them.Make a ridiculous demand for something of high value but weird. Let them think that it gives them a handle on us.Like gemstones that have buddies blood on them or something. That way they'll be reassured that there is at least one way to "control" us, and that they aren't in danger of us whimsically deciding to destroy them.
>>2913199...no. that's a dead giveaway for them to try blast us into pieces.
>>2913199Nah just say we are doing for fun. If they ask what we will do if the fun is over just imply that we haven't though of that since we have being had our fun.Maybe even ask then what we should do? Fight someone in the school? Kill someone? Just run away? Or even just leave a vague threat, then back away at it saying that it would spoil our fun. So long we are distracted and having fun and no one make us focus in something else we won't cause any damage. So basicaly behave like a prankester fae.
>>2913207Why? Greed is controllable.
>>2913238Prankster Fae are the worst kind of Fae though, because murder is hilarious sometimes.
>>2913240But extorsion is never good. It also runs the risk of making the kid flunk the tests. its easier to say we find it amusing to be a summon of the kid, or if you really want any other reason, say that the kid is special and that's why you are his summon.
>>2913249I know they are. But so long they see that we like the boy or find him fun to play. Like once we say all the things we can do we make a small pause as if thinking and then we speak."Ah but the boy is so entertaining he would probably dislike that...after all a summon must always hear his summoner, right?tehee~"
>>2913276That is unnerving as fuck.
How about saying something along the lines of us getting summoned instead of what the boy was actually supposed to get because the summoning ball malfunctioned at a critical moment. And somehow that resulted in him having a surprisingly large amount of control over us.
>>2913293This is way too simple, easy, and sensible.I love it.
Or we wait until the moment happens, if it ever happens at all.
>>2913292Unnerving yes, but doesn't show that Lysan has some kind of control on us. Unnerving and dislike aren't a good evidence to stop the kid from continuing if we say we will obey him (which we will) but we do have to play the part of a entertained/powerfull summon right?
>>2913293>>2913301Eh we could do the unfun way too i guess.
>>2913308yes, but don't give then reasons to distrust Lysan or us as a summon. Its almost like if you don't want to get paid or something.
You guys are blowing this way out of proportion and making it much harder than it needs to be. It was just a little POV switch snippet not an invitation to shadowrun. It's a fucking Pokémon world.>>2913293Normal, sane, sensible.>>2913199Fucking stupid. Why do you want to make it all worse than it is?
>>2913316Why would they distrust Lysan? The boy would never hurt someone.
We've got some real paranoids in this thread. This isn't going to turn into a dark gritty quest randomly, quit freaking out over minor details.
>>2913314I don't really look forward to cringey lolxrandumb posts like >>2913276I prefer melodramatic cringe instead, constantly cheerfully threatening what we would do if we weren't bound.Ideally let's not tell Lysan we're just messing with people.

>>2914061Hmm, i was thinking that a while ago. It will be really fun if he turns out he didn't and either grab everything we can find or force him to pay us in parts.

>>2915410We lost one of the people we had been contracted to protect during a mission where it was Sal’s personal reputation, not just his profit margins, that were on the line. Miranda, and the players, screwed up.
>>2915440I dont agree on the screw up part, imo we hardly had any influence on that murder, and he took his frustration out on us. It's his job to pick someone suited for the job, and I think Miranda's almost pure combat spec was a horrible choice for what turned out to be mostly investigation.

You walk through another office door, before you see a small room with a big number of what looks like pill bottles sitting on the table, along with a MASSIVE pile of papers. Actually, though, taking a closer look...those pill bottles seem to be made of something else…“We would just loooove some help sorting all these out,” the smoky summon says impishly. “You remember the lessons on determining mana purity and strength, right?”“Y-yeah…” Lysan admits with a grimace. “You’re telling me we gotta sort through all this?”“Yup!” the thing’s practically laughing. “Forty bottles, Fortystudent files. Most of the hard work is done already; we just want you to match the files with the proper types. We’ll double check them later, but we’ve got some errands to run across campus that’ll take some time- don’t you think it’d be sooo much easier for us if we had a headstart once we got back?”“Uh, well, I mean-” Lysan starts to complain, but Misteria simply wraps around him, passing you by quickly- huh. She smells sweet.“Don’t worry,” she whispers. “We’ll do something to make up for your lost time, I promise!” A tendril of smoke strokes against his cheek, causing him to blush ferociously. “It’ll be soooo worth it!”“I, uh...okay?” Great.Paperwork.“Oh, you’re just fantastic! See you later!” And almost in a snap, she’s out the door. “You guys are great!” you hear down the hall. “We’ll be back!” A door shuts, and then...silence.Lysan sighs. “Great...well. This better be worth it. C’mon, Kyria, I’ll show you real quick how to tell what’s what- I don’t think most summons need to bother with this stuff…”Maybe you should’ve just forced the stupid apple from her…>Roll 1d20, best of 3.

Gone is the slightly fast speech peppered with occasional stutter and unsureness; in its place is the voice of someone that delivers every word with the manner of a scholar who KNOWS what he’s talking about. His instruction and direction is thorough and yet succient- while you occasionally have to confirm a few things with him, by all means the two of you handle the workload with aplomb, and it’s hardly 30 minutes before you’re finished.“Huh,” he says after you’ve attached the last folder to the mana bottle (which he explained was used for taking samples for health purposes and to provide a baseline source for patients in the event of some mana-related sickness.) “that actually went by quicker than I thought it would. Again, nothing coming your way- although you hear a subtle humming coming from down the hall before you can leave the room. From the doorway, you see what looks like a small, ethereal ghost, a light blue and vaguely bird shaped. It leaves small vapor trails as it floats about, seemingly uncaring about actually investigating anything in particular, content to simply bob to it’s own little beat as it flies. You’re not sure whether to ask after its help or not as it rounds the corner, but before you can voice the question, Lysan speaks up. “Hm...dang. Can you check the room down the hall? I’m gonna check the next room over.” Guess not. What catches your eye, however… this room seems like it’s more for figure drawing- the easels are set up in a circle, surrounding a table with a bowl of assorted fruits on it. >>2916849>>2916860>>2916864>>2916870>>2916873>>2916876Although you’re on guard mentally, you’re not going to show it- not right now. Instead, you give a slight sigh, as though relieved. “Ah. Finally.” Instead, you casually pull your arm back as you allow yourself a small smirk as you speak loud enough to be heard throughout the room. "I've been hoping for a proper workout. Please, DO try me.”Perceptibly, the rattling of most of the canvases diminish, slowly reducing in ferocity- but one, suddenly, flops up, and you can see something inky and black fly from it- it’s little more than a knife, and you’re quick to dodge it, the paint trail it leaves splattering across the table.“You...what are you doing here?” Comes a whisper of a voice, clear yet clearly not loud. You turn around, but...nothing obvious, at least. There’s a desk, some model mannequins in a number of poses, a corkboard with various pictures, a map… “Leave now before I call the authorities!”“I will, as soon as I get this for my summoner…” you say, calmly reaching back for your prize. This time, although the canvases shudder a bit, they don’t do anything more as you reach in and take your prize.“Excellent.” And none too soon, as you hear footsteps. “Mister Lysan!” you yell out. “I’ve got one!”“Awesome!” you hear his voice return, and indeed, he’s there, happy as a clam as you hand over the apple and he puts it in his satchel. “Alright, that’s one green one! Uh…” he looks behind you to notice the paint splatter. “Did something happen in here?”“Nothing worrying,” you assure. No voices dispute your claim, either.“Hm. Well, be careful. Now come on! We need to get to the next one!” And he’s off. As for you...you give one last glance back into the room, allowing a slight nod before following.“Okay, so for our next stop, I’m thinking...hmm…” He takes some time to scan the grounds before snapping his fingers. The cafeteria!”Hm. Before you can acknowledge the request, you hear a roaring like a crocodile...which you’re quick to recognize comes from his stomach, and he has the good grace to blush. “I didn’t even get to have breakfast, honestly…”Understandable, honestly… “Alright, by your lead.” He nods, and you two begin the trek. It’s when you nearly reach the dining hall that you realize there’s a lot of commotion coming from that way. You’re about to ask if Lysan knows what might be going on, before you hear a familiar voice. “And that’s the other one! Ha! Guess I’m winner number one!”(cont.)
>>2917107As you approach, you can see Markus, smug look on his face, casually rubbing a red apple on his chest like he’s about to eat it- which for a second you think he might actually do. “C’mon, Zadal, we’re outta here! Let’s find us a nice chill-out spot!” The blue beetle says nothing, but simply nods- although he quickly notices you, and steps in front of his master. “Hey, whaddya think you’re- oh.” His grin deepens into a frown as you can see him step back briefly. “Hey, whoa! Beat it, Ly-down! We got our apples first! Don’t you or your freaky summon keep near us!” Not wanting to say anything more, apparently, he quickly heads off, Zadal keeping between him and you at all times.“Great. Well, we can at least get a bite to eat before we keep looking.” Lysan mutters. Hopefully you wouldn’t be losing too much time, but the kid’s looking famished. What he ends up getting is some kind of pasta. He offered a bit to you (“Summons should get to experience eating, too, plus it helps you persist anyway.”) and you’d found it alright, and so he’d gotten you a plate of your own. There’s a number of students and their summons in here as well- although several of them had noticeably moved a bit further away from you and him as you’d sat down. “So!” Well, that didn’t last long, as you see Iris plop down next to you both. “Found anything yet?”“We found a green gem apple, but that’s it. We might have a red one, but we need to get back to the nurse for that,” Lysan explains after the shock.“Yeah, it’s the opposite for us,” she confides. “We found a red apple, but no green ones yet. Ugh, they’ve gotta be hidden good. I mean, I thought for SURE the greenhouse would have one…” Bellbelle simply nuzzles her owner in consolation. “I can’t believe Markus got both of his already! Stupid bully...gah, I blame his parents.” All around you, you notice several individuals staring now, some at you, some at Iris like she’s crazy.> “Markus’s parents? Can’t blame ‘em, really. You’re kinda a shocker.”“No kidding,” Lysan mutters, even though there’s a faint grin there.“I haven’t don’t anything untoward, I don’t think,” you note. There’s a vague ‘yet’ in there, but you don’t think they catch on for now.”“No, but- look, you have to understand, most folks never even SEE a level four summon in their lives. At least, not in real life. That’s for, like, the pros, the real big movers and shakers. Just managing to summon one is like...ridiculously rare- and I STILL don’t know how you ACTUALLY did it without passing out from mana exhaustion for like, three days!” She whisper-yells at this point, and it takes some fluttering from Bellbelle to calm her down. “Oh, and this is even aside the fact that, y’know, she’s LITERALLY radiating dark energy.”“Well, THAT’S rude,” you let out before you can catch yourself. Iris blanches for a few moments before shaking her head and resuming her sotto voce tirade.“I- look, I’m sorry, to both of you. But for as much as I know about you, Lysan, you- there’s not…” For a few moments, she seems lost for words, before finally sighing. “Just...don’t hurt him or anything... please.”You blink, and you and Lysan glance at each other momentarily. You decide to break contact first before he starts saying anything. “Hm. Well, moving the topic along,” you decide, “I am curious about this Markus fellow. Why blame their parents?”“Oh, that?” she asks, taking the bait willingly. “It’s because they’re old money. His grandpa started up the first major guardian summoner business, and he thinks he’s hot stuff because of it. Zadal, his summon? Been at it since his granddad’s day, just kept passing him down. He likes to lord his status over everyone, and his parents are BIG financial contributors to the school, so it’s not like anyone can do anything to him.”“Ah.” Classic case, then. “So he essentially has run of the school?”“More or less,” she admits. “I’d LOVE to find a way to knock him off his perch, but…gah, nevermind.”The conversation dies out a bit as you all finish eating- and then it’s time to get back on the move.“Maybe we should check back at the nurse’s, now?” Lysan offers, and you can’t find a reason not to.However, when you get back, there’s a note at the front door…‘Hello, I am sorry, but the Doctor Is, at The moment, Indisposed. Nothing that Time can’t Help, Everyone should know to FILE any issues regarding Coughs, Addlemindedness, Breathing problems, Inner Nasal or Ear problems Towards the next nurse on duty…’Lysan sighs. “Just great. >His grandpa started up the first major guardian summoner business, and he thinks he’s hot stuff because of it. I wonder how bad for business would be if people found out about another way to do summoning. Like i dunno doing contracts with the intersection...
>>2919174Lichen could definitely start a business like that, but the price is literally too high for most people. Although that brings an opportunity to create high level temporal summons for the right price.
>>2919209I mean the use for military alone if a country could get a summon like Miranda that is apparently very rare.
>>2918925>>2918958>>2918986>>2918972>>2918969>>2918966For a second you feel a flash of annoyance at the situation- before you actually take in the message entirely- and from there it’s all too obvious. As Lysan turns away grumbling, you hold out a hand to stop him. “Huh? What’s up?”“Read it closer,” you implore quietly. There’s still people in the hallway, even if most are giving you a wide berth. “We came here to get our reward, and she seems to intend to make good on it.”“Wha…?” He squints at the message, but it’s not until you flick a finger at the first few capitalized letters that his eyes widen. “Oh! Whoa, clever! So that means…” he tensely puts his hand on the doorknob and, as you expected, the door is open. Quickly, the two of you dart in, shutting the door behind you, and you immediately beeline for the file cabinets that you’d set up those files so nicely for earlier.“Okay, so we just have to check in here…but where in here?” Lysan muses as he sifts through the papers. The file cabinet’s one of those extra big ones, so theoretically it should have some space… “Aha!”And there he has it. A lovely, brilliant red, glimmering in every aspect. “YES! We got both!” To say that Lysan is ecstatic is an understatement. “C’mon, let’s get these to Ms. Lucia!”And with that, he takes off in a near run. Honestly, you can’t really blame him.Soon enough, the grove is in sight, and you can even see Lucia casually sitting against the trees, napping the day away. Surrounding her, to your slight surprise, are not one, not two, but three different summons, all in a protective position. They resemble classic knights- if they were made out of natural elements. On one side hewn of dark, solid oak, entirely wooden. The other side, a verdant explosion of flowers and various other plants and fungi. The centermost, seemingly woven out of grass, dirt and fibers, looking like the earth itself. It’s this one that steps forth and speaks, its voice airy, as though from out of a flute. “Have you the required offerings?” “Sure do!” Even Lysan’s momentary fear doesn’t prevent him from smiling as he reaches in and presents the two apples. “Right here!”The plant knight stretches his hand forth, the limb uncoiling and smoothly twisting forward; it splits into two, and both apples are in its grasp quickly. “Your name?”“Lysan!” The plant knight turns and nods towards the wooden one, which simply grabs a pencil and paper from aside the sleeping teacher and makes a couple of marks. “It is confirmed,” comes the rich, thick voice of the wooden knight.“Then know that you are released from educational trials for the rest of the day, as one of the succeeding parties,” the lead knight speaks again. “Be free as the wind for the rest of the day.”cont.
>>2919670“Woohoo!” Lysan cheers. “One down, three to go!”Well. That was pleasantly simple, all things considered. Maybe now you can ask him about-“Hey!” Hm? The two of you turn around, but it’s no one you recognize.Lysan, on the other hand… “Nerisa? Uh...hi! What do you need?” His voice goes up an octave, and you can see a faint blush on his cheeks, but you’re not sure whether it’s fear or...something else. Reason being? This girl is JACKED. She doesn’t look like a runner, like Iris- she looks like she lifts weights. Her robe and tabard can barely hide her stocky figure with rippling, deeply tanned muscles not quite overpowering her figure, but making her look nothing short of a war goddess, complete with gold bangles on her folded forearms. A determined frown is set just below piercing hazel eyes and short cut brown hair. Behind her is a large, armadillo-looking creature; black and grey with oversized arms and a head that has less of a snout and more of a beak. It’s at least a head and a half taller than her, and its eyes are a rich sky blue. It mimics her pose as it stand behind her like an unyielding guardian.“Heard you had somehow gotten a really powerful summon, that right?” Her eyes shift to you, and while you can detect a shiver of fear, she doesn’t move, nor break her gaze. “Uhhh...yeah...this is Kyria. Kyria, this is, uh, Nerisa, she’s kinda…” he trails off, apparently unsure how to continue.“Don’t worry about introducin’ me, Balor an’ I just wanted to get a look at the competition for the last day. You went and spooked everyone!” And here a ghost of a grin finally breaks out. “But at least it looks like there’s gonna be something to work at, huh, Balor?”Balor’s eyes are beady, but you can see them squint as he sizes you up. When he speaks, it’s with a gravelly, well-worn voice. “It will be...interesting, for once.” “And when I beatcha, well…” She marches right up to him- but you can’t see any real malice in her eyes. She gets right in his face- to Lysan’s credit, he hasn’t moved, but his blush and shiver act has done nothing but increase. “You’re not gonna forget our little bet, riiight...?” He just nods. She reaches up a hand...and pokes him on the forehead, causing him to yelp. “Good!” And with that, she casually turns away, waving a hand in farewell. “Later!”You turn back to Lysan, who has what could best be described as a shivering, thin smile on his face as he recovers from her little act, heat still evident. Huh. Interesting, indeed.

>>2921227The biggest issues I see for doing that option is either we find people who oppose our former client’s agenda, are rich enough to pay our fee (which has no doubt gone up exponentially thanks to the betrayal penalty the higher ups impose on broken contracts) and are willing to hire us after we’ve betrayed our client, or we go on a kleptomaniacal rampage where we’ll more then likely have to kill the client and all/most of his lieutenants and minions either while we’re looting the place or have reduced his lair to rubble. Not exactly ideal, you know.Although, I still wouldn’t mind purposely taking a job from someone who’d try to liquidate us, just so we can loot the place...

>>2922652When we shook down the flower girls, we got a valuation for everything we were considering taking. Besides taking a "tried to screw me" fee, looting an ex-client's place seems... unprofessional.

Tbh I like loereli's missions more.
And I prefer Miranda's missions. I didn't hate being Lorelei in the wild west or in the pokemon world but it just wasn't as fun as being Miranda.
>>2923154Agreed. Lorelei is fine, but Miranda is what made me stay reading
>>2923154I liked having it broken up, using a different power set and coming up with other ways of resolving problems.Honestly I had more fun playing Lorelei than I would have with Miranda in that same setting. I wish we had been playing Lorelei in the Mobster world, too, because playing Miranda was just super frustrating in that one.> Puts bleach in food, surely a cunning plan nobody will discover!I think that it's great to have one-off threads for other characters. Both to give Handler a break, and to keep players from getting lazy and just trying to power through jobs because it's easiest for Miranda to do that.

>>2924915I don't disagree; the point of 4chan is to be anonymous unless you have a reason to stick out, such as QMs or artfags. It's just that the arguing can cause more trouble than the namefag themself. See fluff, for instance. Anytime he posts, he's guaranteed at least one angry response.
>>2924935>>2924935Yeah, for a long time I would say something about ignoring them in every thread they showed up, but dumbass anons literally never listen to common goddamn sense. Just had to give up.>>2924935 So every time they show up, it'sa dead'a thread'a.Though I have noticed >>/cgl/ is almost TOO good at ignoring them, like, I hope I never draw the ire of those catty bitches. Probably die from hypothermia after those cold shoulders.
>>2924950Holy FORMATTING BATMAN, WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY POST?
>>2924950I suppose people could just stop replying to the namefag at all until they stopped just to be able to participate other than in voting. Then again, without a trip, how do we even know it's not that guy from last thread who said they were going to post with the name first next time and steal it?I mean, it's not like their posts were unique enough to pick them out from their autism alone.
>>2925008Yeah, it almost like that's literally what I was talking about. Also, if somebody really cared they could just get a secure trip, without one it's basically meaningless to assume you'll actually be identifiable at all. Jesus this is off topic what am I stupid? Anyone wanna theorycraft tech for the girls without metagaming ~too hard? I've been meaning to suggest more permanent force fields for a long time.
>>2923807I agree, that whole mobster mishap is just as much on the players
>>2925153I think some permanent defence measure is s very good idea. On the other hand, the choice og what to train already seems s bit clusterfucky.. I think it's mainly cos we never have enough time to hone skills
>>2925317>I think it's mainly cos we never have enough time to hone skillsI have to assume it's intentional. It's come up before, but we usually get one attempt at learning or improving a spell between jobs, if we remember to make the attempt. That's why people are still grumbling about sticky mana. It was a learned spell that took away from other options (if we spent more time practicing, it's utility wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue)
>>2925324I should elaborate that I mean our regular force fields, but without needing to be actively maintained for at least a short amount of time. Being able to just create a temporary barrier and not worry about it for a certain time period sounds way more utility than it is now. It's not meant to be defensive, just more versatile. (unless Miramda can already do that? I know she has made platforms out of them before but only for long enough to jump off of them, and nothing more)
>>2906607OH MY RUBBER NEN
>>2925858My dream is to turn the sticky mana into rubber mana one day to help us punch better.
>>2926525Ah damn it, this is the wrong summoning ritual. ABORT! ABORT!
>>2926571My dream is to one day use our sticky rubber mana to somehow restart our heart after dying.
>>2926575>>2926525Gorgeous!Delicious!>>2926585kek or yeah..that. lol
Run tomorrow. For now, very early preview of things I want to do.See you there.
>>2928032OOHH Nice. Will it be interactive? or will it be used as a reference/scenery tool?
>>2928032>>2928041Plop it on VRchat and we can all be the little magical girls we yearn to be
>>2928041Yes to both. It's just me, and just on my offtime, though, so it's going to take a good while, and it won't be perfect.
I don't get it, what am I seeing?
>>2928704Hmmm, an intersection?
>>2928712Some basic models of the intersection. The middle building should be the grand trade center or whoever it was called.
>>2928071holy shit Handler, colour me impressed
Did Handler forgot about us? I was expecting for a session today.
>>2931164>MGFHQM@MGFHandler>5 hours ago>Not sure if I will be able to run today after all. It's not a no, but it is up in the air. Something happened very suddenly.
>>2919699He’d wanted to get away from the campus after that little encounter, and as the two of you were walking...somewhere...he’d started spilling just who that was without any prompting on your part.“...so that’s when she decided she’d be my ‘personal trainer’, at least, according to her. She’s not mean, though! In fact she really thinks that I’ve ‘got potential’, so I guess that’s nice.” He looks up in thought as you walk down the street. “She’s usually messing with me about diets and stuff, though. I mean…” he looks at a reedy arm. “I GUESS I could try and lift weights...do you think I should try and lift weights?”So yeah, he’s known her for a while. You’re still honestly unsure if his flushed face talking about her is embarrassment at some of the things she’s done to him, or him revealing some kind of massive crush. Not entirely sure you care, either.“Uh, anyway! She’s nice enough in her own way and that’s what matters. Anyway, it shouldn’t be too far…” and then he pauses as you both are about to head down a hill. “Crud. Where were we going, again?”Oy. This KID.> “You’d mentioned something about ‘catching a game’?” Not that he ever told you what the game was, just that you’d probably like it.> “The city center. You’d wanted to see your parents at work, right?” He’d been pretty enthused, but was keeping their occupations a surprise.> “You said there was a place with some new imported books you wanted to check out.” He’d mentioned that the city was in a pretty hard to get spot, nice though it was, so imports were rare and valuable.>Other(Sorry, all I can do for tonight.)
>>2931461>> “You’d mentioned something about ‘catching a game’?” Not that he ever told you what the game was, just that you’d probably like it.Comparing sports across the multiverse would be an interesting hobby.

>>2931461> “The city center. You’d wanted to see your parents at work, right?” He’d been pretty enthused, but was keeping their occupations a surprise.Finding out if the kid can pay up seems like a very Miranda-y thing to do. Not that we don't trust Sal but still.
>>2932158I mean if the kid goes to a place were there is valuable and rare stuff for sale he must have some money?
>>2932158I'm not worried. It benefits Sal to properly vet potential clients, and he's not incompetent or lazy, so there shouldn't be an issue.
