Holy shit. You can't believe this is actually happening. It's a goddamn zombie apocalypse. You are Ted Barrow, a 30 year old man living alone in a small second floor apartment in one of Glendale's suburban neighborhoods. You're sitting on your well worn sofa in your dirty wifebeater and crusty boxers, listening to the national emergency broadcast repeating itself on your TV screen. "The POTUS has declared a state of emergency. Bodies of the recently deceased are reanimating and attacking the living without regard. Those who come into close contact with the undead are known to go into a similar berserk state over a period of time that appears to vary from person to person. Citizens are advised to stay home and lock their doors, to practice good hygiene, and avoid contact with the infected or dying. Citizens with loved ones who have come into close contact with the undead are advised to bind or otherwise restrain and quarantine them until authorities can handle the situation. Citizens are advised to stay tuned to this broadcast for important updates..."As the mechanical voice drones on, your mind and heart are racing at the thought of all that's happening now, all that will happen. You always knew that some day, your time would come. You're about to be tested, and you don't even know what your plan is. You may want to think about what your strategy is, short and long term. Outside, the noise of sirens is constant and punctuated by the occasional series of gunshots or screams and shouts. Your door is locked and luckily you installed iron bars over your only window. You haven't seen any of them in person... yet. You finish your tomato V8 and crush the can in your fist. (Check if I have is a useful action anyone can use, even when not prompted. >>2807518>Get dressed, gather weaponsWe gotta have something to defend ourselves, also pants
>>2807518Anyway do we know where the outbreak is located at? If it's halfway across the country or within our city? If it's far, we have some time to prepare before it reaches us.
>>2807648Judging by the sirens and gunshots there is probably an outbreak here. That or everyone is just panicking
>>2807659Could be just rioting, and looting of stores and shops. People getting T.Vs and liquor after getting the news of a outbreak of zombies. >>2807644+1Since it's really the best thing to do, having some shoes on will help us if we have to leave this place.CAPTCHA is being a bitch today

>>2807677Shit I didn't pay attention to the rules
>>2807678Wow I noticed I got satan trips.I'm not saying we should go, but having shoes on is a must if we need to make a quick getaway. Since we don't know the extent of situation yet.
>>2807684Don't forget the pants
What kind of weapons do we have?
>>2807644>>2807677>>2807688>>2807689The outbreak is happening everywhere it seems, and this is the first you've heard of it. You haul your sofa over to the door and make a barricade. From outside you can hear one of your neighbors, a couple by the sound, arguing loudly. You head to your bedroom, excited at the thought of finally getting a chance to use your weapons. Before you get started you notice you have an uncomfortable boner and rub a quick one out. After cleaning up you get into a nice pair of jeans, and layer up into a shirt, sweater, and hoodie. You put a ski mask on as a beanie for the time being, in case you need to cover your face. For shoes you put on your old hiking boots. For weapons, you never sleep without your trusty Colt .45 or bowie knife close at hand. The pistol is already loaded with 2 extra 7 round magazines which go in one pocket. You put a box of 50 rounds in another and attach holsters for the weapons to your belt. Your boner's back. You have some other basic items around the apartment, such as your kitchen knives, household tools, an old broom, a baseball bat etc. If you want to make an improvised weapon it would take some time, or you can check for something to take with you. Otherwise, queue actions. >Call (Mom, Dad, Sister, 911, Other) >Get in the car and drive to... (pick a location you'd find in a city) >Load the car up with supplies to bug out for good. >Check the streets outside for zombies. >Check on your neighbors. >Check news channels for information. >Check if I have... >Make improvised weapons/armor. >Write in

>>2807771>>2807792You realize that you might have to leave at any given moment, and decide to start packing your car. You pocket your keys, wallet and phone, and call Mom while you start gathering packages of food and water from the tiny kitchen and staging them near the door. Your parents live on the east coast, and it's been a long time since you talked to either of them. It's Dad that answers the phone. Mom is gone, one of them bit her and she was infected. Dad's heading upstate to get your sister from college and heading to a government safe zone from there. He wants you to get somewhere safe to weather this whole thing out. Don't worry, he says. The government will sort this out and he'll come find you when this is over. If you run into your cousin Rachel, look after her, will you? You're standing at the door, shaking. Mom's gone. >Cry now. >Bury it deep and pack the car.
>>2807860>Bury it deep and pack the carConceal don't feel
>>2807860>>Bury it deep and pack the car.
>>2807860>cousin RachelHere we go again*Unzip pants*
>>2807878>>2807884Fuck it. No time to waste right now, gotta stay ahead of the curve and the clock is ticking. (You are rattled, -2 to resolve checks)You move your sofa and open the door, heading down the steps and out to the parking lot with a shopping basket full of supplies at a time. Out in the lot you see that there's a black man doing the same as you with his young son - he eyes you suspiciously before continuing to pack. You get in and start the car to check the fuel gauge and see that your tank is half full. Your old blue sedan's trunk is packed with plenty of microwaveable and instant foods, and a couple boxes of bottled water. While you're sitting there, you hear a siren coming down the street. Instinctively you look to the right and see that an ambulance is speeding dangerously down the street, swerving to the left and right. Time seems to slow down as it drives over the curb, careening toward the parking lot. Toward your car. Roll 2d20 and...>Start the car, reverse and put the pedal to the metal. >Get out of the car and run for your life. >Hang onto the steering wheel and brace for impact. >Write in.

>>2807914>>2807920>>2807927As long as there aren't a ton of players I'll just take the best results for rolls. You kinda smashed this one so I'll just write it. You react quickly and throw the car into reverse, slamming down the accelerator as the ambulance smashes into one more curb and hurtles toward you. The tires screech for a second that feels like an eternity before the sedan shoots backward, out of your parking spot before the ambulance smashes into the cars next to yours. The sirens continue to blare uncomfortably and the vehicle's hood is smoking. Your car seems fine though you bumped your rear into another car on the way out. You stare through your windshield, heart beating out of your chest. The ambulance driver's airbag is deployed. Queue actions. >Drive out of here now, get on the road. >Get out of the car and check on the ambulance driver. >Get out of the car and check the rear of the ambulance. >Move the car and get back inside the apartment, lock the door. >Check if I have...>Write in.

>>2807945>Check if I have hose of some sort that could be used to siphon gas
>>2807956That's important check that also
While waiting I'm gonna clarify some rules and how to play stuff. Queue actions is basically the way to play this quest. Just put things you want to do in the order you want to do them. You can be as generic or specific as you want with each and every action you take, and you're not limited to options the QM gives you. Actions will be carried out simultaneously if possible, for example giving orders to your group while shooting zombies and walking toward the stairs. The queue that has the most support or is agreed upon by the players will be written. Most rolls will require 2d20, first roll is resolve, second roll is for skill. You need a 9 or higher resolve roll, or you take penalties to your skill roll. The skill roll needs to beat a DC that I determine based on what you're trying to do. >>2807956You don't have the specific tool, but you think you could cut a length of your shower hose for that. Or you could try an auto parts store or gas station, off the top of your head.
>>2807945>Drive out of here now and get on the road Screw them, we can get gas later
>>2807951>>2807974>>2807995Fuck this, you're out of here. You peel out of the parking lot, and hit the road. As you leave you look through the rear view mirror and see the black father approaching the ambulance cautiously. You're on the streets of Glendale, driving carefully. Traffic is light and it doesn't seem like anyone's stopping for lights. There's blood on the sidewalks and you've passed the abandoned wreckage of two cars, but you don't see any of... them. Where are you headed? Queue destinations. >Check radio news for a government safe zone. >To the police station, hopefully they're taking control of the situation. >To get some things I need at... (any kind of store or city building you want to visit, get creative). >To... (your future zombie proof building or future colony of choice). >To pick up Rachel at the edge of town. >Fort Rogers, in the desert outside of town. >Leave town, toward... You start making a list of stores to hit for useful gear and tools, but first you're headed to Rachel's. >>2808033>>2808211You tune in to various channels along the way... The national guard is calling all reserves into active duty at the nearest garrison. The national guard is setting up a safe zone at the city college, and a quarantine zone at the hospital for the infected. A radio host and guest are arguing the morality of killing the infected who are out of control of their actions. You pass over the highway several times and notice a growing amount of traffic going in and out of the city. As you enter the lower neighborhoods you start to see them. First one making its way out of an abandoned car as you pass. Then a couple you slow down to swerve around. They move more like animals than people, and chase after your vehicle as you pass. Three zombies are still clearly tailing you from a distance when you reach Rachel's building. From the street you can see the lobby doors are sprayed over, "USE FIRE ESCAPE"Queue actions and roll 2d20 for any combat related actions. >Turn around and smash them with the car. >Roll your window down and shoot them drive by style. >Get out of the car and shoot them down. >Circle around a bit and lose them, try to roll back to the building quietly. >Just get out of the car and quickly get into the building. >Call Rachel to meet you outside. >Check if I have... >Write in.

While you're out of sight you pull up next to a parked car, get out, and hit it with a side kick that breaks off a mirror and causes an alarm. You get back in and speed away, heading back around to Rachel's building. You quickly turn off the car and get out, heading around the side of the building to find the fire escape. A pair of chained and locked cellar doors is pounded from within as you run by, startling you. Above, a row of heads is peering over the edge of the roof as a pair of men hurry down the fire escape to lower the ladder. "Hang on!" You hear a single pair of footsteps slapping loudly against the pavement, coming down the street. The ladder is down. You make your way onto the fire escape quickly and the two men, a Mexican and Asian, pull up the ladder before a single filthy hobo arrives in the alley. He's bloodstained, shirtless, and snarling at the three of you but unable to find a way up. You follow the men up to the rooftop. The rooftop here has been converted into a garden, complete with greenhouse, tiny shed, chicken coop, and various tools strewn about. A stairwell entrance leads into the building itself. A leathery old Mexican in a Hawaiian shirt shows the courtesy not to point his shotgun at you, though he is giving you a very wary look. "I'm here to see my cousin, Rachel." "Si," he nods. "Hijo, check for bites." Before they let you downstairs, you're asked to strip so the old man can check for bites. Once he's satisfied, his son leads you down to Rachel's. "Sorry about that," he says apologetically. "Things got out of control in here when it started, but it's safe now, and we plan on keeping things that way." Your cousin embraces you at the door and you join her in her crummy studio apartment for a moment. "I'm glad you're here, Ted." She's actually crying, more of a reaction than you expected from a cousin you haven't seen in seven years. "Uh, is everything alright?" Her boyfriend Freddie is one of them, he got it trying to help old Mr. Park when he went crazy. Now he's in the cellar with the rest of them. "The world is going crazy, what the hell are we going to do, Ted?" Rachel joins your group. (You have a group now. The more people you have following you, the faster you can get things done, the more you can accomplish, and the more zombies you can fight without things getting out of hand. You'll have to manage their needs and loyalty or a former trusted ally can abandon or even betray you for their own survival.)"You're coming with me. And... " The sun is setting. "Alright, but can you help me with something first?" She starts rummaging around, filling a purse and backpack with things she needs. "What?" The building's residents have managed to contain their dead and infected in the basement, locked firmly with padlocks and chains. They believe the afflicted can be cured and are hoping to wait until the government has the situation back under control. Rachel's boyfriend was one of those who helped secure the infected in the cellar, and quarantined himself with the others in the maintenance room. Before she leaves, she wants to say goodbye and put Freddie out of his misery. She accuses Rachel of not having loved him, to be able to abandon him so easily. "That's enough!" the manager cuts in. He speaks to his wife in Spanish and she leaves the room. He hands you a set of keys. "Here, this one is for the chain, this unlocks the door. I understand you need to do what you need to with Freddie, but leave the others alone. My wife is right, we have to try to save them." You and Rachel head down to the basement and unchain and unbolt the double fire doors. There's a small laundromat down here, and two other doors. Behind one, the bodies of those that had to be killed. You hear pounding and moaning from within this room. Behind the other are the three who were infected. You rack your pistol and get your knife out. "When he knew it was gonna happen to him, he said it was the only way." She opens the maintenance closet and jumps back with a yelp as a hogtied infected man falls out. There are three of them in there, sacks over their heads and gags keeping them somewhat quiet by the sound of it. They struggle against their bindings and writhe on the ground. He struggles a bit and you step on his back to keep him still as you plunge your huge knife under the base of his skull. Freddie gives one final, violent jerk and Rachel turns away. She's not in much of a talking mood as the two of you leave the building. As you climb quietly down into the alley, you notice the sun is setting and the buildings are casting long shadows. You check that there aren't any of them around before making a dash to the car. Someone is blasting loud club music out of their window as you peel away. On your way, you hear more radio news. What is being described as a herd of people is moving quickly along the highway outside of town. Anyone stuck in traffic is advised now to take their cars off road, help clear traffic however they can, and run for their lives. You reach the shopping plaza you had in mind, a long strip of stores near a highway entrance. There are quite a few cars in the parking lots, some parked haphazardly. People are rolling carts in and out of some open stores while others are shuttered. There are a few thuggish people out here smoking and drinking. You can see a couple of police cars pulled right up in front of the Walmart. You see Rachel off and head for the Home Depot. There's a shutter over one of the large entrances but the other is wide open and people are hauling out flatbeds of supplies. You grab one yourself and make your way down the aisles quickly, loading the things on your mental list. The shelves are already mostly raided but you manage to find just enough of what you need from here. When you get to the generators, there's only a handful of opened and empty boxes tossed around the floor... wait! There's one left, a little gas fueled Generac good for camping trips. You load it onto your flatbed. "Hold it!" someone calls. You turn to see a burly man in a camping outfit complete with fishing vest and hat coming at you at a fast walk. "I saw that first, it's mine!" He has a wild look in his eyes, and points at you with a medium sized spanner. Behind him around the end of the aisle, you see a woman holding a boy close, both pairs of wide eyes watching you and the approaching man. The fucking cunts. They're going to watch while this happens. Queue actions. If you declare an attack, clarify which weapon and where you're aiming to strike. Sorry guys, got home late, no update tonight but I'll figure out what happens next and write it tomorrow afternoon.
>>2813588You pick the axe up from your flatbed and stand firm. "Now hold on a second. Think about it. You can try to take it, but if you're hurt who's going to protect your family? Both of us want to walk out of this store. We still can." Shit, that did not sound as confident as you wanted it to. The man stops in his tracks. Looks at the axe in your hand, licks his lips nervously. Looks back to his wife and son, who simply stand back watching. Stares back at you bug eyed, sizing you up. "Fuck you!" he shouts. He turns around and heads back to his family, and argues loudly with his wife as they leave. You load your generator and push your flatbed out of the store. As you leave you note that there's plenty of building and home improvement materials still available here. You've got everything you wanted from here. Considering you need to leave room in the car for Rachel's half of the list, you looted... >4 cords of really tightly wound poly rope (400 ft)>small generator >30 ft extension cable>shovel/pick/saw entrenching multitool >8 rolls duct tape>welding gloves w/ sleeves, mask, wire, equipment>roofing hatchet >splitting axe >chainsaw>2 5-gallon gas cans, hoses for siphoning Looking over it on your cart you realize that with the food and water you already packed from your apartment, it's gonna be a tight fit in your little sedan... your trunk is packed now, and you're starting to fill your back seats. It's 20 minutes to the top of the hour. You continue on into the sporting goods store, ditching your flatbed for a smaller plastic cart. A shattered window gives you access to the dark store interior. You're on edge as you look around the ransacked store for what you need, as well as potential dangers. The gun racks and display cases are completely empty, as are the shelves that should be holding ammo. You don't know much about fishing or hunting but you quickly grab a telescoping fishing pole, a compound crossbow, and a couple 12 packs of steel tipped bolts. And then you spend a moment looking over sets of motorcycle body armor and helmets. Oh hell yeah... You toss in a womens' medium sized jacket and hope it fits Rachel. When you get back outside with your small cartful of acquisitions, you notice a commotion. There are way more people out here than before, people of all kinds, not just the young and fit but entire families, women and children, old people, moving like a loose mob in the same direction across the parking lot as fast as they can. Panicked shouts and screaming drown each other out. You hear the squeal of tires and see the cop cars peeling away from the Walmart. Queue actions. >Write in.

You reach your car and start tossing your shit into the backseat. You get into the driver's seat but before you can pull out, a woman with a wild look in her eye slams herself against the trunk of your car, and shouts hoarsely, "Wait! Please take me with you!" She's sweating and breathing hard. "Let go! Get out of the way!" You have to find Rachel. The woman clings stubbornly to your car, standing in your way, refusing to move, and sobbing from desperation. "I can't go any further!" Others passing by have noticed and in your windshield and every one of your mirrors you can see them approaching, running toward your car. "Lady, let go of the fucking car!" "Nooo!" she wails. Your car easily overpowers the exhausted woman and she screams as she's forced under the trunk. You hear a crunch and feel the bumps as your wheels roll over something. Holy FUCK. Outside you see the men and women who were converging on your car just a second ago back away like an electrified human wave. You drive for the storefronts, honking your horn as people dive out of your way. "Move it, out of the way!" With one hand you dial Rachel. "Come on... pick up..." "Ted, what's going on out there? Are you alright?" "Where are you? Get out quick with what you have, we're going now." "I'll be in front of Walmart, I couldn't get everything-" You toss your phone aside and pull up at the front of the Walmart. She spots you and rolls out her flatbed, you crack the window just enough to yell, "Toss it all in the backseats, let's go!" In the agonizing minute it takes her to load her loot, you keep a watch out for anyone trying anything. You look back for any sign of the woman who jumped on your car, but you can't see past the people streaming by. As soon as Rachel's in you lock the doors and drive, keeping a palm on the horn and making your way through more people. "Holy fuck it's them!" You're too focused on getting back on the street to look. "Oh fuck there's so many, Jesus Christ!" You're on the street and clear of most of the fleeing crowd. You drive up the street and speed through three blocks, pass through a police checkpoint at 60 and keep going. A pickup truck nearly hits you from the right but it brakes in time. "Jesus fuck, Ted, slow down. Where are we going?" You look down at your gas, it's 3/8. Alright, you guys have the wheel. Decide where to go, you need a safe place to prepare your food and eventually sleep, even if it is in the car. You can queue destinations. >Back to Rachel's building. >Back to your apartment. >To the college safe zone. >To Fort Rogers out in the desert. >To a gas station. >Write in. The highways connect you to other places and they may be jammed. >>2818656>>2818685You can figure this out by talking to others who have encountered them, gradually by following the news, and by firsthand experience. From what you know now, anyone who dies rises to attack the living, and those who come into close contact with the undead become infected. The ones you've seen can run. >>2818710Oh boy. First cousin. 26. "We're gonna get some gas first. Find us a station outside the city." You have the 2 5-gallon cans you looted, and your tank needs filling. A helicopter passes overhead, then another. A tank and several deuces full of soldiers go by. You see emergency vehicles going in every direction on your way to the gas station. There are several times you have to find another route around a traffic jam. You pass through a large block party of people dressed to rave, with fireworks, smoke and booming music. The local airport is under quarantine. The Mexican border is overrun. Scientists at the CDC are well underway on research for a cure for the infected. It's some time before you arrive at a quiet gas station that still has lights on. You're at a quarter tank. You don't see anyone at the counter of the convenience store, at least from out here. Queue actions. >Write in.
>>2818892What do she loot?Get our gun, fill the car, fill the tanks, loot whatever food is inside. Check all the rooms before looting maybe there one of them in the back room.Fill car and tanks before looting
>>2818892>Park a good amount away, where you can't be seen when approaching on foot. Make your way up to the windows, listen in and scout out for living or unliving residents. The lights are on so it might be occupied. If undead, quietly fill your tanks up, and if there's two or less inside, take them out with stealthy stabs to the back of the neck/skull with a knife before looting. If human... have Rachel cover you from a hidden position while you attempt to sneak out their fuel from under them. Best avoid any confrontation. If it's empty then go in and loot.
>>2818916What if the place is empty? Since people can hightail out of there once the news came on about the zombie spreading. But anyway I agree with this plan of action.
>>2818928Yep, ending says "If it's empty then go in and loot." just in case that happened. Wasn't much to plan ahead on if it's empty afterall

>>2818892>Fill the car>Fill the 2 5-gallon cans>Do not bother with the station. Even if it's safe and can be looted, there isn't more room on the car to haul whatever swag we steal. If it feels like a real necessity,>Loot more gas cans and fill 'em up. We should try to never run out of gas.
>>2818916>>2818928>>2819173>>2818902You pull up along the street quietly and motion for her to get out of the car. The two of you approach on foot with the gas cans and take a look through the convenience store windows from afar. You don't see anyone inside... yet. "Gimme my gun. Start filling up the tanks, I don't have a card. I'm gonna go check out the store, make sure it's empty." As she fills the tanks up you get closer to the store and hear a dull thumping noise. The hairs on your neck stand up. You look in. You see a fat convenience store clerk pounding on the men's restroom door in the corner of the room. You draw your knife, open the door slowly and noiselessly, and creep inside. >Stealth roll 1d20 Best of 3.

Then you guys get up to 7 1d10 rolls. 8 or better gets a headshot unless fear affects you. Fuck, I'm realizing I don't have a good, timely way to do turn based combat without it bogging down the whole quest. For 1st thread I'm just going to have a simple roll to resolve combat and I'll think about how to run combat between threads. >>2819744Your gun is in hand and your attention is squarely on him as he turns to face you. The store interior is well lit and at this range it's no wonder that you simply line it up and pop a shot between his eyes. He only barely begins to move before the bullet carves a path through his brain, and an animalistic hiss barely escapes his throat before he lurches forward onto the tile with a loud smack. "Oh my God, is someone out there?" You hear a voice from inside the bathroom, and point your gun as the door unlocks and a lanky black teenager comes out. He's wearing a turquoise hoodie, jeans and glasses, and looks intimidated by your appearance and weapons. There's a dark bloodstain on his sleeve. "Woah, don't shoot. >>2820066Could always modify the stub so his black ass has something cool to kill zombies with. Unless it's not a bite then just clean it up with a splash of alcohol and tell him to keep his nasty bloodsoaked hoodie off the wound unless he wants excessive puss and brushing from a minor infection.

I feel fine, I promise. I promise." He doesn't show any apparent symptoms other than some sweating, but it could just be sweat. "Show me." He gingerly peels back the sleeve, and shows you the wound. It's a nasty looking wound with dark, coagulated blood. >>2819959>>2820019>>2820029>>2820058"Rachel, finish filling the tanks and bring the car up." You grab yourself a sixpack of V8s from the fridge for the road, cracking one open and chugging the cool tomato juice down. That hits the spot. You check behind the counter, plenty of stuff back here, you grab a fistful of tylenols and advils and shove them in your pockets. "Ok kid, unless you wanna end up like that guy, we have to do something about that," you say matter of factly, pointing at his arm. "You could amputate your arm, cut it off right up here," you show him your knife. "We could help you with that if you want. Or you could kill yourself with this," you hold up the gun. "I ain't about that, man," he says, shaking his head. "I don't wanna die." He grimaces at the thought of what he has to go through. "Look, can't I just... take some antibiotics? >>2820482This feels like Fallout in that once you get certain information you don't even have to pass a speech check because you have the needed information to just convince someone to do it unless they just absolutely wont.
>>2820482The kid says he's been in there about an hour. You ask Rachel how long it took the infected in her building to turn, she says the first one turned in a few minutes, she isn't sure how long it took the men who quarantined themselves to turn.
>>2820353>>Shoot him in the head.
Just a thought. But this guy is currently a random kid who hasn't done shit to us. And you wanna shoot him? The lady made sense, there were time constraints and she could've been psycho, while meanwhile this dude hasn't done anything.
>>2820517Wtf hes ether immune or highly resistant ether way amputation is out of the question at this point. I'd just let him be then hes just gonna be one of a million dead bois and killing him isn't gonna do anything but make you an asshole and honestly if he wants to come with let him it would be interesting as fuck if he didnt turn.
>>2820541Also to add an easy way to know if hes gonna turn anyways is to see if his bite keeps bleeding for an excessive amount of time that shows the body is fighting infection and trying to flush it out if hes immune then it will stop pussing after a while if we clean it good.
>>2820541I don't think we got an exact time for turning, and chances are that he's currently undergoing the process - cutting his arm off is one way to ensure his survival. Anyways, thus far zombie genre's have (with few exceptions) a one hundred percent chance of infecting another. Ain't no way out, so it's this or he dies. tl;dr
I don't know why y'all have such faith for cutting the wounded arm and all.If you are thinking of the walking dead, those amputations were done minutes past the bite, whereas the boy was bitten long ago. good comic...
>>2820403>>2820482>>2820541You're not sure if he would make it at this point even if you managed to stop the bleeding from a clean amputation. Maybe it's already hopeless, maybe he will be ok, you just don't know. "Well, good luck, kid. There are some meds behind the counter you can try." "Thanks for taking care of that guy, anyway," he says, motioning at the corpse. "I just gotta get home. Just gotta get home and get this cleaned up better. Maybe get something to eat, get my energy up." Outside, Rachel has brought up the car and filled up the tank. You've got a full tank and 10 gallons spare. You pass her an ice cold V8. "Ugh, you couldn't have grabbed some beers?" Where to now? You still need a safe place to prepare food, eat and sleep for the night, even if it is in the car. You've heard of several safe places, but perhaps you have your own ideas. >Back to Rachel's building. >Back to your apartment. >To the college safe zone. >To Fort Rogers out in the desert. >Look for a... (you have an atlas and can look for pretty much any kind of building or site.)>Write in. (You can look at google maps for inspiration and anything you can find is fair game to me. That's odd, I thought shooting him won, or at least all three were still tied. Did I miscount?
>>2820661Excuse me Rachel drinking beer in a situation that as of right now you would probably benefit from being sober and alert in shame on you girl

>>2820353>Let him go, maybe he'll be ok. He's honestly not our problem. Amputating takes time that we don't have and shooting him wastes a bullet we don't want to waste. We got him out of the storage closet and that's about the best we can do for him without putting ourselves in a shit situation.
>>2820661>To the college safe zone.
>>2820661So, suburbs or the city or... places... if we play it safe we may go to the fort ot someplace out in the woods but what are the chances of enlarging the group. Very bad survival being only two, if you ask me.I wonder... What if we make a "supply base" with most of our supplies, hidden some miles off the highway that leads to fort rogers and then go to the college safe zone so check for news and look at potential companions we can recruit? So far I think the two scenarios that may play out is 1.- Goverment anihilation, classical setting or 2.- The last of Us, where the goverment at least tries.
>>2820661lets go to the desert, no one else will be there meaning relatively few zombies will be there as well, it'll just take awhile to get there and be resource sparse when we do, but it'll be safer than other geographical locations
>>2820775oops I'm an idjit>>2820661>Look for a... (small rural town)Smaller town means less infected running around and more secluded + abandoned homes to potentially occupy. Open space makes incoming threats easier to spot and farmland will provide you with vegetables and stuff.Desert presents the same advantages but it's the desert which makes sustainable living difficult. Maybe hit the desert base on the way to a rural town would be my inclination.
>>2820805+1Maybe a small rural town far away from the main roads
>>2820661>Look for a... (small rural town) Let's keep our radio on to see if we can hear what's happening to the safe zone.

This isn't a final count, just giving more information and clarifying things. The decision on where to head is still open. >>2820938>>2820813>>2820805You look over the atlas and realize that the entire area is very densely settled, with scant pockets of uninhabited land between tightly packed urban and suburban areas. The closest thing to rural out here is heading up into the mountains, where fewer people live but towns are still common along the foothills. You could head up to one of those towns or maybe even find some rich guy's empty house in the hills. There is an eventual end to the sprawling cityscape, but escaping tonight would require either an open highway, or finding a means of flying out. Otherwise you'll be making a series of potentially dangerous trips through the streets (in which case you're back to needing a place to eat and sleep). Just looking at the map makes you nervous. That's a lot of goddamn zombies waiting to happen. (Pic unrelated to the quest, just wanted to show the density)>>2821080That may be important. She managed to get an 8 pack of toilet paper, some extra jackets and clothes, a first aid kit, propane stove and canisters, cookpot, sleeping bags, and a small tent.
>>2821156So making it all in one day is out of the question.>Look for a... libraryA library would be a good place to rest if it has two or three story. Noone would go there, and it's mostly empty when there no zombie outbreak. We could go to a high school, since it has that welding jackets that anon saidI don't want to go to the college since it's jam packed full of people, that can either loot our stuff, or breakout waiting to happen. So go a library or high school whichever is closer
>>2820668Depends if its by a blood infection or more like necrosis. If its a blood infection tier your fucked no matter what. Blood pumps too fast. If its more like necrosis then just removing the infected flesh and leaving the healthy tissue is enough.Seeing as how corpses are being reanimated shit ain't looking good though. On the plus side at least it's not a fucking mutagen.
>>2821186Library sounds good; supporting
>>2821492It is true that we don't know how Op's zombie infection works
>>2821156Hey QM can you list what we got when we reach the library or what have you.
>>2821186If the school has the buses on site as well, we could turn one into a mobile fort. Replace the door with a steel plate, then black out the side windows. We could rig up some covers for the front and back, so the zombies cant see in. We don't really know if they use sight, but it can't really hurt.If we get enough people(20 or so), we could turn four buses into mobile forts and travel as a caravan. Tear out most of the seating for storage and living space, then hit the road. Parking them in a square would make a solid wall for us to use for cooking or other things. Gas would be a big problem, but we'd have a mobile fort, which would be fun
>>2821186Supporting this.Plus let’s talk to Rachel to asses her strengths and mental fortitude. How is she feeling, has she shot a gun before, etc
>>2821938op let us choose who we wanted to play as in a situation which in my opinion hints to Rachel having the ability to hold her own

Alright, actually here's how we'll do this. We've already spent a lot of time considering where to go but I'll make this a quick one, first to three votes.Damn. For a minute, the two of you look over the atlas and check highway traffic reports, trying to determine a route that can get you out of the cities tonight. But the major highways are jamming up, and getting out of dodge seems impossible for those without a flying transport, at least during this mass panic. "Change of plans, we need a place to hunker down for awhile." "Why not the safe zone?" "They call it that but it'll be a refugee camp. Too many people show up and the whole thing'll boil over. It's no good for staying." "Ok then, where to?" You look around the area and think... the government does have a decent idea in setting up on a campus. Strong buildings, resources on site, fences and maybe even shelters... but such a place will draw attention and will take more than just the two of you to secure properly. Maybe this isn't the time for that, and you want a quieter place you can secure and lie low in for awhile. You've got enough food and water for at least a week if it's just the two of you. You find two potentially good locations and decide on... >East Glendale High School (lots of potential resources and space, many buildings to secure, high profile, fences) >Glendale Public Library (2 story brick library and community center, low resources, easier to secure and fortify, low profile)
>>2822854>Glendale Public Library (2 story brick library and community center, low resources, easier to secure and fortify, low profile)This close to the initial panic it's probably better to lie low while people fight it out for high profile locations. Especially if we don't want to be involved in it.

>>2823145Where's my update?
>>2823007>>2823125>>2823196>7, 9, 4You decide that it's more important to avoid large populations for now and lie low. The library shouldn't be on many peoples' minds and the two of you should be able to secure it and lock it down. A doctor and scientist is on the radio, claiming that an alien menace from beyond the galaxy has deployed a biological weapon against humanity. A large wildfire has broken out in the mountain ranges to the north, firefighting units are struggling to contain the situation. In the distance, you can hear the sounds of a military engagement. Machine gun fire, faint explosions, and the occasional line of tracers visible against the night sky. On your way through the streets, you see man on the sidewalk wearing a sign that reads, "THE END IS NIGH, REPENT." Passing closer you see he's already a zombie. As you pass a residential area, a trio of zombies leaps out at your car and one smashes into your hood. Its skull bounces off your windshield and causes a spiderweb of cracks along it. Shit. You arrive at the parking lot of the public library, an old two story brick building with some modern renovations on the inside. There's no light visible from within and the first floor windows and doors look intact. You pull into the empty parking lot as quietly as you can, but two zombies are still following you. >>2823638>>2824126Seems like a slow night tonight. I'm feeling better, let's try to get some rolls in tonight and clear out the building. There are two zombies making their way down the street. "Alright get out of the car, we've gotta take these guys out. Grab the axe and hatchet for me." You dig out your crossbow from the backseat, hastily tear open a pack of bolts and load your first shot. Rachel drops the axe at your side and clutches the hatchet firmly in both hands. You raise the crossbow to eye level and sight the lead zombie, a black man in a t-shirt and pajama pants running with a jogger's perfect form toward you. In the time it took to load your weapon he and the other zombie, a fat teenage girl with a less coordinated gait, have gotten close enough that you can see the whites of their eyes. "Come on..." Rachel mutters nervously. Combat begins. >I need 3 rolls. 1d20 for resolve. Second is 1d10 crossbow shot, third is 1d10 axe swing.

The kick surprises you and the bolt whistles past the zombie who continues to charge straight at you. Rachel swears, "Fuck!" You've already dropped the crossbow and picked up your axe. You swing the splitter in an arc from the ground, all the way over your head, and yell as you bring it down onto the zombie with perfect timing. The blade bites deep into the zombie's head and caves in the whole thing, carving its way through the neck, into the chest and becoming deeply lodged. Rachel screams, blood goes everywhere, you blink reflexively as some droplets land on your face. The zombie drops immediately and you lurch forward, your grip still tight on the handle. The fat teenage girl makes a gross, phlegmy rasping noise as it charges Rachel, who seems almost frozen in place. Your cousin screams at the last second and kicks it hard right in the throat, both knocking it back and getting thrown by the force onto her own back. She gasps and blinks as she lands hard, but manages to hang onto the hatchet. The zombie rolls over and pushes itself up. Queue actions. >Write in. I'll figure out the roll for whatever you do.

The fat girl blows snot out of her nostrils as she charges at you, eyes rolling into her head. You sidestep her and bring the axe across to catch her in the face. The blade smashes through her nose and again, you lurch forward as the zombie falls with your axe buried in it.Rachel gets to her feet and approaches you, eyes wide. "Ted, you've got blood on your face." You notice she's got some splattered on her jacket and legs. The girl zombie is still twitching and writing, flat on her back where she landed after you clotheslined her. You pick up the crossbow and axe. Queue actions. >Clean the blood off carefully. >Do something about these bodies. >Load crossbow. >Change equipment. >>2824804>>Clean the blood off carefully.>>Rachel can finish off the girl zombie with the hatchet. After that's done>Enter the library through the front door just us alone while Rachel watches the car with the gun while we have the crossbow, we have to scout out the library to see if it's clear.

>>2824859this and also>tell her to hunk the horn if anything happens
I want to clarify what we're looking at here... I was envisioning a library from where and when I grew up when I wrote that this would be a quiet place. Well I googled some videos and floor plans and all I see are huge, sprawling modern buildings, community centers complete with coffee shops, computer labs, study rooms, theatres, large modern art sculptures and fountains outside... basically even bigger and more functional than a modern college library. Others have 50 ft high arched ceilings with renaissance architecture, varnished redwood everything, huge shelves you need ladders to access... These are places where lots of people would have already been gathering during a crisis. You aren't at this kind of public library, you're at a regular old brick 2 story library that collects books and DVDs, with sections for fiction, non-fiction, children, and a small computer lab and projector screen for movie nights.>>2824811>>2824859>>2825296You smash down into the girl's split face with the axe head, and her spasms stop for good. Rachel winces at the sight. "Ted, did you hear me? We've got his blood on us! Are we gonna go crazy?" "Let's get cleaned up, that's not how infections work." You hope you're right. "Just don't get any of it inside of you." She doesn't look assured in the slightest. The two of you turn back to the car and wipe the blood off with some toilet paper. You get rid of the hoodie and Rachel loses her jacket, the two of you get into your armor, gloves, and helmets. You hand her your gun and magazines and tell her to stay in the car, keep the doors locked, and wait while you check out the library interior. You leave the bloody axe by the car (you need a way to wear your weapons if you're not going to carry them), reload your crossbow, tell Rachel to honk if anything happens out here, and head for the library doors. The front doors and windows are metal frames with wire mesh glass. Through them you can see the lobby, a section with tiled floor, a large round circulation desk to one side, some stairs to the other, and an elevator to your front. The lights are off. Signs hanging from the ceiling direct you toward other media, computer lab, and nonfiction on the first floor, and fiction, childrens' section and study area on the second. You find that the doors are unlocked and enter quietly, wondering how you're going to secure the entrances. You see a bit of dried blood on the tile. You pause to strain your ears, and hear sounds of movement both upstairs and on the ground floor somewhere. >Call out and make some noise, drawing out whatever's in there all at once. >Get up the stairs to the 2nd floor and fight from the high ground. >Move along the walls of each section stealthily and take them out one at a time. >Change of plans or equipment... >Write in.

All you guys have to do is tell me how you wanna do things. You approach the noise but your foot catches on something in the darkness, a fallen magazine stand surrounded by scattered DVDs. The noise causes a zombie to shamble out of the darkness between shelves. You can barely make out its silhouette but put a bolt right into its face at close range. The zombie's head lolls back with the impact, but it remains upright and lurches at you with arms outstretched. It opens its mouth and emits a hoarse cry. You hear movement and deep groans on both floors, as well as some frantic pounding sounds from within the elevator. Combat begins. You're in melee range of zombie 1. You're making your way back along the way you came in when you hear a loud smack. In the light streaming through the front doors you see another of the things, a lean teenage boy by the look of it, finish getting to its feet. Another zombie lurches out of the darkness of non-fiction, its stiff, waving hands knocking things off of stands and desks as it makes its way toward you. The pounding in the elevator continues. Teenage zombie boy stands in the way of the exit and is approaching you. Zombie 2 is approaching you from the left. Zombie 1 is getting out from under the shelf you knocked over. Teenage boy makes it over to the desk and clambers onto it; he's halfway across it now and a few feet down from where you're standing. A badly bruised, beaten and bloodied woman continues toward you into the light of the doorway, moving a little faster now that she has eyes on you and making a wheezing noise. Zombie 1 extricates itself from the collapse and enters the lobby. It's a man with his cheek bitten out, your bolt is sticking right out of his eye.
