This is a thread created for the discussion of quests and all things regarding them, as well as general whinging about different platforms and fatalistic predictions about the board's future.

Please do not shitpost and please ignore at any shit posters attempting to derail discussion or cause strife. Or at the very least make your shitposts entertaining. Speaking for myself, it does add ideas for parts of the quest. I have incorporated ideas from the anons in the threads before, so long as they are make sense to add. The overall quest story-line or layout doesn't change however, as only their choices change that.

Nerv Bridge Simulator had a couple of these, but the best one had to be the assault on North Pole Angel. It started out as a biological sniper battle with an experimental weapon, and ended with the pilots tanking a city destroying angel shot with their EVA's.

It was one of Square's more experimental games before FF7, combining horror and RPG elements in a very modern fantasy setting with New York City as a backdrop.

It got two sequels, one of which is ok, and the other is so god awful that they literally couldn't put Parasite Eve on the title. The setting itself is interesting with the whole magic powers coming from hyper advanced biology rather than actual magic. I would love to see someone adapt this into a quest.

All the time. I always have deliberate "holes" in my plans for players to fill with their ideas. I'd say at some points it's almost collaborative.

Chapter 10 of my current project. Have been doing Pokemon quests since 2012, formerly on /vp/, now here. Currently in the middle of my fourth quest, which is a reinterpretation of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon wherein the POV switches between the two MCs with each chapter. My style is lighthearted, over-the-top, and "monster-of-the-week" focused, and battles are a mix of game mechanics with the more kinetic elements you might see from the anime. I detail it better in this pastebin, also has archives for my older stuff.

The earlier quests aren't necessary to understand the current one, but I do slip in lore and reoccurring characters for veteran readers, but again, scholarly knowledge of them isn't required. I don't expect people to read 125+ chapters of material. Catch up on the current one and you're good to go, or don't and just go with the flow. I always welcome new players, so if you're interested, come aboard.

What is it about quests that makes it so niche? If an artist already as a moderate art following on their social media, whats stopping them from posting a small interactive doodle story updated day to day to interact with their followers?

When Kid died in BCQ. No quarter given for it.

Also way back when, the quest where you were a Super Computer AI fighting against God in a post-rapture world. Literally against an omnipotent and omniscient opponent with the only advantage being that the other side had to play by their own rules as well. The final roll of the quest was just fucking unbelievable and appropriate.

The QM might appreciate it, but when the rest of the players want a shit fetish quest I know that any vote that doesn't rely on the dice working out is pointless so why bother.

I just read the threads afterwards. Some QMs are better writers than they are actually running Quests resulting in broken systems or not being able to control player involvement so that they end up with players making retarded choices then bitching when it bites them in the ass.

No one's stopping you from running a quest with anthro characters, hell, I recall a drawquest where everyone was an anthro character, though I can't remember what it was called, just that the MC was a cat and the entire quest took place in a modern day town.

Having anthro characters can be a nice aesthetic choice to make your worlds seem more alien, to make it more lighthearted or better suited for slapstick, it also brings up nostalgia of the lighthearted adventures we saw as kids like Duck Tales, Robin Hood, Redwall, Looney Tunes, ect.

Honestly, furry quests should be allowed on /qst/, even shitty sanic the hedgeheg or Zootopia ones, let them be and let them die from lack of players because if we ban those quests just because they feature anthro characters then by that same token we'd have to ban potentially amazing Redwall or Mouse Guard quests too, and if you think making something like pic related verboten for a quest just because it's anthro I don't know what to tell you other than you have the taste of shit and should reevaluate your life.

The Freedom Fighter stuff basically was fanfiction that got made into a cartoon, then published through the Archie Comic series.

I think if somebody did one, it would be set in the Generations or Mania-like universes, as the success of those games and the relative failure of something like Sonic Forces makes it kind of easy to bring in fans.

On the other hand, the Classic games series don't have too much leeway in what you as a QM can do to bail yourself out of trouble, whereas with the FF stuff you literally have to be SOMINUS to fuck it up and die.

Doubtful, you have to remember that the fanfiction scene of the sonic series is populated largely by children and a bunch of CWC level autists.
Chris Chan level autists don't really become QMs, let alone the kids that lurk the boards hiding their underageb& status.
Besides that, and this is my subjective opinion, the design of the Sonic characters is just overall unappealing, the uni-eyes, the proportions, the completely naked save for gloves and shoes males, it's just bad, and I think a lot of people think the same which is why I believe it's more likely you'll find other quests of anthro franchises with more appealing designs or straight up OC before you'd find a Sonic quest.

Character art has little to do with it, you're looking at it from the wrong angle, even if you didn't use pictures, the world you'd try to show the players would still be tainted by unapealling design.
Overall aesthetics plays a part in one's desire to run a quest, and how characters are supposed to look plays a huge part in it, nothing odd about it, it's why a QM chooses to run a post apocalyptic quest, for example, despite the world being a dead cesspit of radiation and the people filthy and hobo like. It's still pleasing on an aesthetic level, it's why a QM might run a western quest, despite the arid, inhospitable frontier being unsightly and filled with rough people.
It's just not something QMs usually think about because they naturally gravitate towards what they like when writing.

HQQ is a funny one in that, too. Even on /tg/ there'd be times where QD would only get 5-8 responses to a post until something everyone feels is important (or funny) comes up and 50 previously uncommitted lurkers surge forth with hot opinions. So even when responses were low, you knew they were there. Just waiting for the humans to do something incredibly fucking stupid again.

I would say we need more good commander style quests, but they become harder to run over time and kill their QMs pretty often.

It’d be based almost entirely in the original game, since that’s what I have all the magazines and rulebooks for and I have no idea what the fluff for the new game is like. Oh yeah, didn't mean I'd actually use the Necromunda rules, otherwise characters would be dying left and right. Would just be making use of the setting and fluff. I think I'd probably just do Bo3 with d100s for actions the players take, probably with the occasional bonus tacked on depending on what they're rolling for.

The best advice I've found has been to know what you're getting into before you start.
Civ thread QMs need to accept that it's work and involved.
I personally wanted the support of a clearer rules system.
The less you have to fiat and figure out as you go, the less work you have to do at once while running.

As far as big updates go, I'd recommend attracting the players at the start of the first thread with whatever makes your quest cool, then starting with the large updates after the first session.
Starting a Quest with a wall of text is generally always a bad idea.
Also, accepting steady handfuls of votes is better than chasing after the prize of "more" (You)s.
If you're not enough without the prize, you'll never be enough with it.

I personally like big updates.

Hard to say. I have a few ideas for quests that I would like to see, but at the same time I dread the idea of a popular QM taking a tangentially similar premise and running something I'm not interested in, and I feel that I can't trust anyone but myself to run quests I want to see.
The quests I pick up generally aren't ones with premises that would have crossed my mind had I not seen them in the catalog. Guess I like to be surprised.

Read. Read a lot. Read stories that are heavy on character interaction. Dialog is one of those things that you just have to pick up through exposure, and if you're not exposed to a lot of it in real life then you need to compensate by supplementing your dialogue intake with artificial injections.

Also try reading the scripts of plays, aloud to yourself if possible. Plays tend to feature characters talking a lot more than most books, so it can help you develop an ear for dialogue. Then try practicing by writing stories in a script format. Then read the story back to yourself. Then do it again. And again. And again.

I'll be frank: I'm playing this skirmish and I had (and sometimes still have) all the same issues.
This particular GM is notorious for having poorly explained rules, many of which rely on knowledge of his past games, as well as not remembering his own rules and changing rules without writing it down anywhere. You pretty much have to ask other players in the thread or in Discord.
That his games have insanely high player count despite all that speaks volumes to how awesome they are.

It's funny you mention that, that's literally the human system of magic in my setting for a custom pnp game. Only written though, humans were made to forgot how to speak it.

I wouldn't recommend anyone putting that much effort in unless they're very sure its gonna get use, though. Making magic a language with its own conventions and rules is difficult, static or not. It has the better quarter of challenges in making an actual language while having balance considerations based within accessory developments that make sense for the setting as a whole. You can take inspiration from ancient or foreign language rules, but taking them wholesale also gives you those problems in your language, and you have to choose which bugs/features you think are best. Retranslating structural rules to be more suited to your intent and borrowing conventions to simplify into a dynamic system of magic takes a metric fuckton of no life. If someone doesn't enjoy languages or making systems in general they really shouldn't do it just for the sake of having it.

There's also the actual writing part, if you want to make it so players can see the language itself and you're not just describing it, hoping they get it. It's a bigger thing in pnp, but for an imageboard if you're telling me you made a language for your magic system and the character knows what it is and you also describe the letter parts or the sounds of it you should be able to write it out and show the parts the character knows and how they think it works. That's at the least. Reasoning being, that was the monumentally great thing about the Sigil system and others like it. You could see it. After seeing enough of it, you could just photoshop up something that worked.

If someone doesn't want to do all that, they can still have it in their quest. If you trust your system improvisation skills, just fucking cheat. Steal any parts of systems that work well enough together that you like and slap some symbols on its ass and go. It only has to look and feel functionally complete from the player perspective. To have depth, just make the character and players not have perfect knowledge. Done. There's also many more ways to make language based magic than there are magic systems in existence, so it's not like you're limited in path either.
You just have to be a good bullshitter.

Let's do this.
First, some basics:
-Each player controls one character
-Joining the game is as simple as posting a character sheet and >deploy
-Each player can make 2 acts (actions) per turn
-An act could be moving, attacking, changing weapons, interacting with objects
-Movement is in cardinal directions only, but attack ranges also count diagonally
-There are also tap acts, which are like free actions
-Taps are used to use some active abilities, reminding of passive abilities, looting and other stuff
-Some actions are once-taps, which are taps that are usable once per turn
-To attack, you roll 1d100. On less than 50 you deal only half damage, you can also miss altogether on a very low roll or deal more damage on a high one.
-All actions are posted in greentext. It's customary to enclose skill names in [square brackets] and preface tap actions with a -dash.
-Each post also contains the character's stat sheet. Since it can grow rather big, by convention people only post their full charsheet once per thread then just link to it.

Now to the explanation of pic related. Let's look at the Jaeger class:
A: jaeger's base stats and the formulas for the derived stats. From the top:
-HP equals VIT multiplied by the racial modifier
-Damage is STR x weapon damage
-Armor and magical defense = RES x def, where def is 1 + equipment bonus. Your rear armor is halved. Some items also give separate front armor.
-Magical power = INT x focus bonus. Irrelevant for jaegers
-Movement range = SPD / 2 + 1. All fractions round up.
-SP = PER x racial mod. SP is spent on some skills.
-Vision range = PER x lighting modifier (depends on time of day)

B: available races and their modifiers. For example, humans get +1 movement range, while kerbolds (dogmen) get +1 STR and SPD
C: starting armor
D: starting weapon options. The bow has range of STR x 2 + PER and damage of PER x 2 + arrow modifier. The daggers have damage of STR x 5 + 5 and two weapon artes, which are skills tied to items. In this case [Adroit Fighting] allows you to deal damage with SPD instead of STR, and [Knife Throw] allows you to throw the dagger at range = STR. I know this only because I asked in Discord.
H: full starting stats for each race, accounting for race and gear modifiers.
E: jaeger gear proficiences. Better confirm these in the thread.
G: class ability. You have it as long as jaeger is your main class
F: class skills. You get one on start and can buy more with insight. Most have two ranks. Your class level is the number of class skills you have. You keep them even if you change classes.
A minor note: Lv4 skills are actually available starting with Lv5, since you gain a level after you get a skill, not vice versa.
J: how this class earns insight. Insight is your XP and each point allows you to buy a rank in class skill, or learn an arte from an item you used this mission, or learn a skill from a scroll, etc.
There is another advancement currency called merits. You gain merits for notable deeds in the mission and can use it to raise stats or gain a secondary class.
You can only earn 1 insight and 1 merit per game day.

General notes:
-Melee classes generally suck because they have to spend acts to get to the enemy.
-Magic classes are OP, but have the most rules and rulings that constantly change in an effort to nerf them and are complex AF.
-The easiest to level up are sworn and longcoats (just don't die), after them it's shrine maiden/keeper (just perform [Last Rites] on a corpse).
-Teamwork is essential, but hard to achieve.

If I do the mage quest, the magic will be pretty touch and go. Magic is mostly elemental based. Y'know, fire, water, wind, earth, with light and dark thrown in as well. You'd be able to choose 3 of them to be at a beginner level in, or 1 of them to be specialized in. (Like, you can be pretty fucking solid with fire, but not have anything else going for ya, or can have a wide variety of weaker magics to go on)

It's probably best to pick the 3 magics over the one, since it'll be more expensive to pick up new fields of magic later, but not so much so that it's unmanageable.

If Magic is going to be touch and go, but you're going to have 5 options, might I suggest not having any actual formal spells as such but instead have levels in the different elements count as die to roll against a DC? Like each level gives you another die to roll, mixing elements costs vefore rolling 1 die for simple spells and increases with difficulty.

So a flame spell with 3 levels in Fire would give 3 die to roll with 1 die needing to pass the DC for a simple spell, 2 for a spell + effect, 3 for a complex effect, etc. Extra die after 3rs level could be spent to try and increase strength or duration etc.

Whereas a combination spell that used say light and water to create an illusion clone would require 3 water die (summon water, shape water, manipulate water movement) and 2 light die (create light, manipulate as an image) for the spell itself but also require an extra die from either the water element or light element to represent the concentration needed to double cast elements.

I would probably allow for players to "burn" extra die for the session to reroll their lowest roll to make unused levels picked earlier more useful.

That way players magic investments stay relevant while providing benefit for both specialization or generalization of skills in different magical ability while allowing /qst/ format of multiple people rolling.

Some spells are harder, some situations add difficulty, and some stuff is just outright more complex. Multi-tiered rolls isn't an idea I'd formed already, but I didn't like, have a spell list preformed or anything either.

So, say you wanted to use something like a steam jet attack.

roll 1 die for fire (low dc since it's only boiling the water) and 1 for water (which is the *real* dc check, since this is the directional attack where the complexity lies.) HIgher skill with water in this case can help lower the DC depending on the what you're trying to do, but I'm not going to make you roll multiple water dice unless you're trying to do several different things with one water based spell casting roll.

Does that make sense?

Like, a roll requiring multiple water rolls would be like "Shoot a water bullet at them, and then freeze the bullet on impact"

So you'd roll once for the water shot, and once for the freezing action.

I didn't really specify, but you start with some low level intelligence, and ramp it up as you gain power.

Depending on the direction the quest goes, I was thinking it'd wind up as you sort of being the over brain for your fleshy conquest. Slowly infesting areas and gaining new biological intelligences, allowing you to build up a host of varied minions for the domination of the modern world.

You're basically right about mage quest, and the merc quest is something that would be kinda difficult for me to run, but ultimately rewarding just based on the amount of unique characters I'd have to plan in order for the ranks to swell properly. If I do that one, I'm going to try not to just fill out the ranks with >Generic archer x 40< or whatever. I want it to be more a coalition of champions who can each be off doing their own things when they need to be.

Alright /qtg/, I have a proposition for you. I have the leisure to run a quest, on which I have been ruminating about for some time. The problem is that I don't know which you guys would prefer:

Both sounded appealing to me at least, but some feedback would help so my efforts can be focused to optimize the experience. There is still much work to be done and a consensus would be conducive to getting one of these ideas off the board and onto the table, so to speak.

Lots of them aren't that good. People like HMQ, so they recommend it. It's why a lot of the recommended quests are the same. Whereas in the catalog quests there's, what Lamplighter that you might look at and think of as a top tier quest. Can't see any others.

If you're saying that a quest with a logical endpoint, or definite end goal, is a turn off, I don't understand.
I understand the appeal of open quests, but quests with defined ends provide some promise of eventual closure or finality.
Quests with no end in sight ever only promise that the quest will die when the QM tires of it, however long that takes. And when it dies, it will not truly end, just simply stop. This will leave the players unsatisfied and pining for its return or sequel.

Plus, any quest that reaches the end point with plenty of gas in the tank can just change the ending, and add a new chapter.

It's true of people in general, and anons are people. It's just that people's definition of "right" and "good" are really flexible.
Generally, no one IRL tries to harm people just to be evil. It's always "because they deserved it", or "because I had no other choice", or "it's for their own good", or "it wasn't really harm, stop being so thin-skinned".

You can't discourage it, but you can make the players turn around at the end and realize what shits they have been. At least some of them.

False. I have seen plenty of quests where people would choose to do terrible things, they just would always try to spin it as being just. A ridiculous overreaction to a perceived slight is a common way you get evil choices in quests, especially if they think that letting something slide would make them look weak.

Conversely, anons will go berserk at a perceived betrayal by an NPC, even if that betrayal was preceded by the players treating the NPC in ways far beyond what they would tolerate themselves. It's very easy for a QM to play with that double standard to manipulate anons into making extremely evil choices. All while believing that they are just, of course. It's always the fault of the NPC for not having thicker skin.

Apologizing for anything is also absolutely anathema to many anons because they think it makes them look weak. No matter what is at stake, if you make the good/nice/right thing hinge on an apology, there's a good chance that the anons will refuse to choose it.

Don't make a "good" mc.
Don't offer options that go against character.
Don't faithfully obey write-ins that break character.

In Peasant Lord Quest, when write-ins for dropping the girl the mc was in love with dominated, the QM didn't just cave, he reflected the internal conflict but kept the established course the mc was on and did not change the character.

In chargen for a quest with a BBEG type as the mc, I asked for an action that they did it the past that would cement their character as evil.
One we landed on was corrupting, destabilizing, and destroying a noble order of righteous knights because they wouldn't lend us a book we wanted to read.

Actually haven't read many evil mc quests.
As I recall, I'd say Reno from DC Quest counts as "not good".
I can't say exactly how they discourage it, aside from sticking to the established character very well while still allowing flexibility.

Wild West quack doctor quest. Players must sell enough snake oil to make ends meet while also getting out of dodge before the townsfolk catch on and lynch them. Technically never got off the ground.
Chargen went great, developed a solid mc, worked out a solid outline for the first session and several paths for the quest to go in.
I just needed to brush up on some mechanics I was rusty on...

And then the curse hit and I haven't had more than a few minutes of spare time at once since.

As for whether or not it worked, I'd have to say yes.
In the chargen there were a couple anons gave quality responses to the question, one anon who gave a half serious one, and only one anon that questioned the purpose of it and wanted to explore how the villain felt justified in his actions. I simply explained to that last anon that the point was that the character was a villain and a villain is defined by his villainous acts. And then I thanked him for his questions.

Alright guys, I need some help on a decision I've been thinking over. I'm working on a quest right now and I'm stuck on if I should have combat include a battle map for each scenario. Battle maps being something akin to how World Tree and others similar to it have combat. Personally think that the bonuses of the added tactical advantage and the ability to see where you're positioned within the world space really helps anons plan out combat maneuvers and attack orders. The system itself is all in the works right now but I'm leaning on something like Black Company's dice system, it being centered around d100s.

Let's ignore the terrible survival rate of civ threads for a minute.
When civilization threads were on /tg/, it made more sense for the first of three decides the race rule. If and when I run the one I'm planning, how long is a reasonable time to wait for the players to decide the race?
Would posting in the QTG that I was going to start the thread several days in advance give enough notice?

Just just thinking about these things as I'm tooling my ideas around.

Yes and no.

If the appeal in playing a civ game is the choices which surround the beginning of the game then it wouldn't be a big surprise that their average lifetime expectancy is less than a house fly. The appeal in playing in a civ game isn't the initial box of chocolate but the choices that surround playing a civilization god game, or being a leader of a group of outcast dwarfs, or the brave king of giants who struck out to find wealth with his lucky half a dozen brothers and sisters in arms. It's not exactly about the giants or the dwarfs, it's about the experience of playing the group. Like playing dwarf fortress, it's not about whether you're playing dwarfs or goblins or orcs, its the set up and the challenge in surviving and growing a civilization through technological, superior firepower, or the sheer will to survive against all odds. May it be enemies at the gates, civil unrest, or the environment trying to subdue you, it's your job to challenge them back and defeat them, or die trying.

tl;dr -
It's the experience and challenge of playing and managing a civilization, not the initial choice of said civilization.

I think the issue with mine compared to Fuckquest is that it would be almost entirely comprised of surprise sex and I know a lot of people tend not to like that. It's also quite the departure from my completely normal mostly non-lewd writings because I wanted to do something very different that I was inspired to do. How about I post my (no doubt controversial) idea for a lewd game quest and feel free to shit on me/it.

There is a greenskin (of various types) invasion from the mountains of a kingdom's northern frontier, said kingdom moves a hurriedly assembled force to face it. The readers control what actions the greenskin army take throughout the campaign via poll.

The game will have various rules I'm still mulling over, such as who or what to target for attack with what each "turn." Armies will have set numbers that increase or decrease in various ways until one side reaches zero. There will be passive cards that provide various bonuses to either side depending on who controls them. Plus more.

Here's the kicker: The greenskins were created to be a male-only race and therefore must take the females of other races to breed and increase their numbers, so one of their main objectives and main focus of the quest other than defeating the enemy armies is to capture slaves. They also have a very fast gestation period of only a month and grow to be a full-sized adult in a year. With a dark relic the orc warlord found this period is reduced further to only a month during the campaign, thus every two turns (a month) the number of greenskins increase based on the number of slaves they have. All this capturing and "number increasing" will be written in detail each time.

I'm planning to keep it short and simple for the first attempt and I also want defeat to actually be possible.

I'm perfectly fine with pastebinning the lewd parts, but if I have to do it on a (shitty) dead board like /trash/ I don't think I'd bother, there's just not enough people there for that to be fun. I don't know how strong the possible drama would be from attempting this would be either, which would likely draw moderator ire, I won't try if people think it's too unpleasant to be here either.

It's less civ and more just basic numbers and cards, nothing too fancy, there's not going to be base-building or anything like that. I plan to keep it simple and short.

For example: Farmland card, replenishes X number losses for allied forces every turn. Players can use a turn to burn it to the ground and negate the effects (and acquire a few farmers wives and daughters in the process).

I want to give it a try anyway, worst that happens is it will fail. My main concern is if it does work out and then a mod comes along and deletes it it will definitely be a big waste of time.

Hey /qst/anon's, got a question for you. Just spent 3.5 weeks innawoods learning how boat in all kinds of conditions with no internet and spreading 1.2Gb of phone data over 14 days. Quest name is all that's really necessary. Collective game isn't needed anymore since we're on "Collective Games: The Board", but I still add it because old habits die hard. QM name should only really go in if you plan on running multiple quests and want a way for possible fans to read your earlier work.

If you want to go further than that you could also add the genre, setting, and maybe the tone. Anything more is either overkill or it belongs in the description.

Yeah the quest kind of slowed down after that, I tried to reel it back in and get back to the good stuff but at that point it was just a bit difficult to get information out. I've been rethinking how the whole thing should go, and sometime soon I'm going to start it fresh with a new idea. I'm putting together a complete (ish) dictionary for the language, and have been building a font as well.

Gembutts is actually almost ready to come back, I needed to take a break to rediscover what it was about the series that initially brought on so much inspiration, it seemed like it would've been unfair to let it keep going until any creative merit it had was drained. My guess is around a week and a half or two weeks, just to let this quarter of school finish up and to sync up with the monthly serializations again.

It is frustrating, but I wouldn't drop a quest over it. The QM should have a main idea of where the plot is headed, have important lore and characters planned ahead of time.

Failing that, if the QM is simply winging everything, it's still up to them to go through their thread after the session and compile relevant information/characters, and piece together or plan out possible paths. It sounds autistic, but it can help keep things consistent.

I've been thinking of doing a Raccoon City Quest since the remake of Resident Evil 2 was announced. Would start in game time-wise (and these are the canon dates due to information found in the games) on September 27th, When the third Resident Evil game starts and end on the 30th when Leon, Claire, and Sherry flee the city. This is rarely a problem for me as a player or a QM.

1st: Make certain the QM is aware of it.
Sometimes they use the wrong proper name, cite the wrong fact, or just plain forget something and it can fixed with a quick "Oh, I meant X not Y."
QMs are human and there is no edit function.

2nd: Any QM, or GM, worth their salt can respond to a major inconsistency being pointed out by replying something like ”That does seem odd, doesn't it?" or "What do you think that could mean?”
Inconsistencies remain mysteries until confirmed mistakes.

3rd: Not every apparent error is really an inconsistency.
Professor Snape seemed to behave inconsistently until you learn the full truth.

4th: If the QM does screw up, they can always spin a narrative to explain it all.

The mixing up of proper names I mentioned was from the first thread of a solid, well done quest I checked out once.
They're still going strong to my knowledge.

Fear of making mistakes won't prevent making mistakes. Nothing will.
Fear of screwing up your quest won't prevent screwing up your quest in some way. Nothing will.
Accept failure as part of the process, just as most players do.
Will some asshole players expect perfection anyway? Maybe, but they're assholes. Who gives a shit?

Sure, men choose to ask a woman out, but ultimately the woman is the one who accepts or turns him down.
