"Oh prince, let me tell you of the time after the great city of Illian was despoiled and before the rise of the men of Asshur. I will tell thee of a great warrior who appeared from the dark corners of the earth and trod the kingdoms of the earth beneath his feet. Let me tell you of a time of HIGH ADVENTURE"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHfE682mm3cWhen we left off last time, Alexandros had accomplished much since leaving Xylopolis on his holy mission to find help. He was joined by one of the younger villagers whose family was lost to the forest beasts, they killed bandits together, fought a sphinx to free a sprite named Spitha and Alexandros used the still living Sphinx as a sacrifice to the sun god for strength. They encountered a questing knight from distant Cammlan who was looking for the mythical holy grail, before saving a mysterious woman from highwaymen. After reaching the sun god's temple in Argos Alexandros rallied a small army of religous soldiers to follow him north and now he prepares to march alongside his comrades as the armies sorcerer prepares to burn down the forest in order to safely and quickly reach the lich's base of operations.okay here are the ground rules for this quest.>I will post the PCs current status at the beginning of the thread.>rolls are d100, but I will specify if rolls are needed or if another type of dice is needed>rolls are are made against a static dc or an oppossing role by an NPC with degrees of success measured by a difference in 10s>I will post options and specify when write ins are appropriate>PC base stats are always an unmodified d100 with a maximum 2 degrees of success.>Successful actions will contribute to leveling up, traits determine stats with each successful roll bringing the PC closer to leveling up>Critical rolls are 1 and 100 but their effect is contextual out of combat and in combat crits result in wounds. Wounds accumulate when critical hits that land and debuff your PC or debuff NPCs with enough wounds resulting in death, they require medical attention to heal.>You can pretty much wander anywhere in the world and the only plotline will be an ambition that you choose for your character. The plot will then pretty much focus on achieving that goal although new goals can also be picked up.

Correct me with this stiff If I'm wrong I was looking through the previous thread to fact check.
We should try to organise a meeting between the leaders of the soldiers and the townsfolk who have information regarding the woods. Discuss tactics, figure out strengths and weakness and how best to organise our forces.
Collecting your haul of new gear, you Expirment with them. They're quality weapons, their balance is excellent, nice keen edges, solidly built. You closely examine your spear. The forest beast will be forced to attack head on at your full force rather then fight comofrtably at their leisure. Then you be able to quickly find the tomb by buring the forest and once it's found you'll siege and infiltrate it.

Considering its made of at least in part of ash and blood it can't taste good.Immedaiately you feel very warm. Your muscles and skin tingle, and your limbs grow lighter. Then you feel like someone has lit you on fire. Then you feel like someone is jamming needles into your body from every concievable angle.Face down on the ground in pain, you are surprised that stay concious. Eeventually the agony subsides and you stand, weary and agitated.Pyrrhus thows a rock at your head."Think fast boy!"Before you can shout at the old man or duck yout hand lashes out and catches the rock."Please don't do that. I'm not feeling well, also catching a rock is hardly a good test to see of the potion worked."The old man chortles."I know it worked, I can sense the magic coursing through you. I just wanted to throw a rock at you to see your reaction."You glare at the old man before leaving. You father said something once about sorcerers. Burn you malignant forest! be returned to the hell from where you came!"The pots shatter and fire surges across the forest fence. Moving along the border the flames rise and begin to become deeper and hotter. The heat from the flames is enough to make you sweat in your armor and hurt your eyes. The sorcerer, keeps his rod aloft in the air, mumbling to himself as he begins to walk forward. The wall advances and only clear ashen ground remains, not even some seared undergrowth to meance your army.Your company follows as closely as you can without risking being burned or getting heat exhaustion from the flame wall.Pyrrhus' stride is surprisingly quick and your army advances into the forest at a brisk pace.>roll for encounter 1d100

The greeks used it as a back up tactic if they were disarmed in battle and it had its own competition in the panhellenic games. According to myth Heracles and Theseus developed it.

>>2626951>you are correct Adept grappling (4/20)The wall of fire burns deeper into the forest, with the giant tree being consumed entirely. You'll have to tell Pyrrhus about how impressive his fire sorcery is, he's been burning for hours and barely looks winded. As the march continues, runners from the army report that incursions from the forest monsters and animals have finally dissapated, casualties are minimal and Aulis believes that they are drawing closely to the tomb. You agree bec ause as you advance you see that the trees are becoming rotted and dead. The branches have withered and the undergrowth is rotting and foul. The sickly sweet reek of dying plantlife irritates your nose to no end, and the horses are getting spooked something fierce. Ector places a mask with sweet smeeling flowers on the horses and covers their eyes to calm them."I've been in this kind of place before, the affects of the undead taints the land and animals are scared half to death by it. Gotta distract them or they'll start to freak out.""I sense It! It is here! CONSUME ALL WITH HOLY FLAME!"The sorcerer raises his arms along with his voice and the firewall, begins to burn out of control. The inferno advances without its master and spreads before suddenly dissapating.>You have arrived at the tomb of Theophilus the beloved a king of Pelas. The tomb is quite large, a broad stony building with a tall doorway that cuts into the ground and goes downward. The blocks of stone that construct it are taller then a man and the doors are brass, although they are covered with an absurd amount of corrosion that almost makes it impossible to tell what material its made off.A pale green glow emenates from within and whispers scratch around in your ears, like hungry rates that try to eat through a wodden barrier to devour clean food.Nothing exits the tomb, no surge of undead greets you, the Lich does not come charging out with a legion of the damned at its back. You stand in near silence, the army behind you is likewise cowed by the auspicious sight of the tomb.Suddenly Aulis's voice carries on the wind and the army spring into action. Orders are given, and the army begins to use the pre-prepared stakes and stones and shovels to dig earthworks and barricades around the tomb until it is enclosed on all sides. The soldiers array themselves and order themselves into defensive postions with archers and infantry taking up key postions in the barricade near the tomb's entrance.Aulis calls for a rest. The evening passes with some vigorous training. Ector takes out a strange looking and very tall wooden bow."In my native land this is called a longbow, its made of wood from the yew tree. Its a real bastard to draw on account of its size, but a bowman trained from childhood is dead hard with one in hand and if you get a good force of longbowmen they can stall heavy cavalry with a storm of arrows. Here try to draw it and I'll try to point out any imperfections in your form."For several hours, the knight tutors you in the nuanced method of drawing and firing a heavy bow. One of his most most important tidbits of advice is correcting your method of releasing the arrow. Now when you loose the deadly dart you notice its trajectory is considerably neater and smoother. His tutelage with the shield does not take root though. You suspect its because he wants you to hit with the face of the shield and not the edge, which is most likely do to the different style of shields you carry. The hoplon is a circle as tall as it is wide with options to slam the edge into an enemy with a horizontal slam. His tall triangular shield seems more fit for straight forward strikes.Retiring for the night you rest at ease despite the danger that the morning brings. Phillip snores and Ector dozes after cleanin Caliburn. Spitha after spending the day remaining out of danger sleeps covered by a small cloth on your pillow. You should ask him more about the undead in the morning.Arising at first light you and the soldiers of the order aseemble before the main barricade facing the timb's entrance. There has been no sally from the Lich's lair but chances are that the disgusting atrocity is just waiting for you to enter its home turf.Do you ask anyone any questiosn before you get your assignments?>write-in
>>2628639I wished that they were capable of suffocating. That way we could just leave a huge fire at the mouth of the cave and hope they run out of air to breath.Ask the leader of the religious soldiers if he has any idea on how to approach this. This is our first time fighting undead.
>>2628658>Aulis military expertiseUndead are an exceptionally difficult opponent to face on the battlefield. They are fearless and their morale cannot be broken no matter what, only a direct command from the necromancer or lich controlling them will make them change course. They have no wants or needs, they cannot be starved or agitated with conventional strategies like cutting supply lines or nighttime harrassment, or a long term siege. The only way to truely defeat them is to meet them and destroy them in battle. Before we begin any attempt of storming the tomb we're going to light a large fire at the mouth of th structure. Normally we do this with dens of dangerous monsters to suffocate them without a fight but in this case we are using the smoke to fill the tomb in hopes that it will reveal any secret passages nearby. The smoke will fill the tomb and smoke will eventually pop out of a passage if it exists, then we'll investigate and block them.We block them because those secret passages are trapped beyond belief and meant soley for the lich or necromancer to escape and no one else.Sfter the fire and smoke dies down we'll form a vanguard to make the probing attack into the tomb, with Pyrrhus to use his magicaly attuned senses to tell us where the lich may be located.
>>2628707Sounds like a plan. Iron works well again the monsters we fought in the forest. What works best on undead?
>>2628712Fire would be my guess, or silver.
>>2628712>what works on undeadNo special tools or magic weapon is needed. But with undead you need to know what you're dealing with. The durability of undead is variable, but typically their relative strength and durability can be determined once you get a good look.Resurrected corpses are the most fragile, as their partially rotted bodies have merely been reanimated with a minimal amount of effort. Hacking them apart will drain the magic quikcly and desroy them. They won't be that hard to kill. Skeleton creatures are stronger. Runes and spells are carved into their bones and a sickly green haze emenates from them along with the red flame in the empty eye sockets. These undead are stronger and more durable because more magic went into their creation. You'll need to hack, crush and pierce the bones a great deal to finally break the magic guarding it, and once you do they will then turn to dust. The more powerful undead are those undead that seem to have a transparent spectre of their former selves around the skeleton. This souls have been trapped and forced to serve the lich. Unlike the others these lich warriors are just as skilled and usually stronger then when they were alive. Watch out because those lich warriors have the cursed blades. Then they're are more abombidable things, like corpses that have been fused together and undead versions of larger more dangerous creatures.Undead giants are a nightmare on top of a nightmare.
>>2628743>Then they're are more abombidable things, like corpses that have been fused together and undead versions of larger more dangerous creatures.Getting Tabletop flashbacks. I always loved those things but my GM would never let me make one. Not even as a Black Cleric.
>>2628743Besides fighting with the shields and the mace, I can't think of any better way to fight the first two tiers of undead. Well besides picking them up and beating other undead with them. They're dead so shouldn't they weigh less if most of the fodder rotted away most of their flesh?
>>2628743I can't think of anything, so I guess more practice of we get started with the fire?
>>2628776>>2628780The corpses still retain most of thir body weight, but the skeletons are light, but the magic they hold in their bodies can be used in strange ways, increasing their weight to avoid being thrown wouldn't be out of the question.Gnerally speaking all of your weapons are viable options against the undead and beating them to death via pankration is also viable. Just do what you think will work.>more praticeWhat do you practice? (pick 1)>Sword>Spear>Blunt weapon>Axe>Bow>Shield
>>2628796>SpearSince we already have experience with it.
>>2628817but how can you effectively use a spear against undead?
>>2628823For most of the undead damaging their body drains the magic in them and if the magic runs out they typically burst into dust or ash.
>>2628826hmmm....fair enough. I assumed blunt weapons would be more effective in breaking bones and shattering limbs than a spear passing through ribs.
>>2628826screw it. changing my vote to spear to speed things along.

Once you reach the end of that hallway, you enter a massive square room, flled with carvings and statues, all broken and worn down and covered in corruption of some kind."Three paths....hmmmm. A mighty king being turned into an undead is no small thing, but a long dead body cannot be reanimated. No lich is so mighty to pry the dead from Ur-Paran's grip at least not without being slain on the spot and being thrown into the pit of torment for trying. So you have no fear of facing a lich king. >>2630324What do you guys think of the quest's I run, any critiques.I imagine one of them Is I run these things a little too much like it were a game I was playing IRL. Too much rolling and stats considering how casual this board typically is. Burying a quest in lots of rolling and stats I imagine isn't very endearing.
>>2630345I enjoy it personally, but I'm used to Tabletop games.I don't have any critiques.
>>2630345Honestly, I don't mind the dice rolling. But can you keep up with it on your end?
>>2630526I can keep up with it just fine, I really should have a paper next me whee I should make a running tally on everything but keeping track of the rolls and the stats isn't too hard, so far everything is on track, and if nothing else I can just keep a running tally by having a piece of paper or a word document to record all the stuff that happens to make things work.
