Welcome to Traditional Evolution Game, part 5! Our usual host, Commodore Norrington couldn't make it so I will fulfill his duties temporarily. The rules of the game are as follows:1. Find a creature that is still alive3. Paste the creature in a pixel editor program like MSPaint4. Make a noticeable mutation for them that makes sense and is not too major5. Add necessary format either in description or within its picture, please follow format shown below this post for this5. Post evo here, with a description of what changedNow, for do's/don'tsDO post no matter how shitty your art is! WE NEED YOU! It's not that hard to edit in paint, just do your best!DO try to use the pencil tool instead of brushes, as it will make it easier to edit linework and recolourDON'T mutate the same creature over twice in a row! There'll be plenty of family lines in need of love.DON'T overdo mutations. A creature doesn't suddenly grow legs, intellect and fire-breathing.DON’T forget the format, otherwise people won’t know where your creature is from or what it eats etc.DON’T forget to link back to creature you have evolved when postingDON’T forget to have fun, and don’t forget to post, more players and less lurkers is what will keep this aliveAgain, without further ado, let us begin!
>>2485680Of course, evolution can't happen without creatures, so here are your lifeforms, arranged in a few handy charts:>1/11
>>2485686>3/11All creatures that have gone extinct have been omitted from the charts, by the way.

Have fun!
>>2485701The proctors have developed a much smoother and sturdier bone structure, improving protection and allowing them to empty the water collected in their snorkels through frontal nostrils. A courtship ritual has developed where in order to find a mate, males will have matches where they ram their snorkels into each other. The men with the longer and stronger snorkels usually win, and females get the choice of who to mate with, usually leaving the losers dateless.
>>2485718https://www.maptoglobe.com/BJQ3RDr3zJust gonna leave this here for the avid worldbuilders of this EvoGame.Enjoy
>>2486330There's too many creatures to give a description to every one, but most of them are in the previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2380790/
>>2487149Creature profiles, in no particular order:>1/??
I'm not going to post any more creatures as at this rate by the time I'm done the sheer amount of them will leave no space left for actual evolution images.
Looks great; could we have a link to the previous thread though, please? Personally I could just look it up on the archive but it's good to have it in here.
>>2492334Oh, found the link, guess I didn't read the thread properly... my bad
>>2485712A part of the Jumping Zemleleaf population migrates to infecturran, using their wide circular leaves to anchor themselves in the muddy ground. However, this adaptation also severely weakens their jumping ability, although their stems still contain the tensile fibers necessary for it.
>>2485701With Infecturran now housing their food source(>>2492351), some Low Protomions have migrated to the continent. To deal with the muddy terrain, they gained long, spread fingers, increasing the surface with which they touch the ground.
(Disclaimer: I know fuck-all about the plants of this planet. That said...)Competition amongst the purg for food and space around the coast of Florainsulam forces some individuals on the east coast to migrate into deeper waters, where there diet changes to benthic plants. Living a more exposed life on the pelagic sea floor of what (with no other name I can see) we'll call the Mesoic Ocean, they increase in size to 50 cm to both deter small predators and combat lower water temperatures. As they now live a more nomadic lifestyle moving between different food areas, evolutionary pressure encourages improvement of their legs; this eventually results in the emergence of a third segment and overall lengthening of the leg. This adaptation allows them to move faster and to be more agile; it also increases their stamina.

A population of plate crab in western seas of Terrapetram evolve a cursorial strategy to evade predators: to increase their speed they sacrifice some of their armour, lengthen their tail, and fuse their rear fins into a lobe (allowing them to better harness water resistance.) Unfortunately, their increased surface area weakens them to the effects of the cold polar water.A stable population forms in the Petram Sea, the area of ocean between the Petram Isles and Terrapetram.
>>2493791Ah dammit, linkback to >>2487874
It is not uncommon for sea mats to be ripped apart and sunk is stormy weather. So much of this disruption happened that a new genetic offshoot of the rock gourd was forced to specialise to a benthic lifestyle. The pinnacle leafpad became more robust, for resting on the surface of the water in order to photosynthesis and respire. The gourd at the bottom of the plant became larger and heavier, fulfilling a new role as a ballast anchor, and overall the species became taller and faster-growing. These benthic gourds are to be found in relatively shallow water (up to around 10m deep) off the eastern coast of Florainsulam.
>>2494561Sigh... linkback to >>2487892
This map is labelled with the names of locations, unlike the maps posted at the start of the thread.
>>2487888On Mortem-Reigo, competition amongst varieties of scruff plant make it more difficult to secure space to grow on the shoreline. As a result, some shore tangle are forced into the tidal zone, where they are pressured by the low temperature of the water and the buffeting of the waves. In this harsh environment, a symbiosis forms -- tumbleweed talcynoberry, washed onto the shore after the destruction of leaf mats by stormy weather, make a partnership with the shore tangle. Together they are the tangle-tumble, a shallow-water plant that can be found in the seas of Mortem-Reigo.>>2494561Size should read 10m max, though the majority of individuals are not more than 6m.
A strain of the aquatic zemleleaf, out in the blue yonder between Solitudinus and Florainsulam (which unless it's already been named, I'll for now call the Occifloric Ocean); evolves a new propagation method.Instead of emitting small spores, it releases entire nodes of its body in response to detecting a strong currect. The current then sweeps these nodes away from the original plant; when the node senses a change in water temperate (either higher or lower); it releases its roots and eventually creates enough drag to fall to the seabed, where it anchors and grows into a mature plant -- completing the cycle. This stage in the life cycle of the plant allows it to propagate itself further, eventually becoming widespread throughout the Occifloric Ocean. The purple dots that can be seen on the floating node are false eyes that aim to deter herbivores from feeding on it; they develop after the node has been released.
>>2487874Some plate crab evolved into >>2493791, a large and fast-paced animal; but others took a different path. In this species, the saucer crab, natural selection has encouraged shrinkage in order to cope with reduced coverage of the zemleleaf in the dark winter. This downgrading in size is made possible by two strategies. Firstly, the saucer crab becomes more heavily armoured; the blunt protrusions at the front of the shell become pointed and its underside grows rough plates of thicker armour. Secondly, they become social, travelling in small shoals of about 10 indiividuals; this helps them to spot predators as they feed.
Another evolutionary innovation on the aquatic zemleleaf is the zemlettle. This squat plant has a mass of roots at its tips; touching them will make an animal feel nauseated. Obviously, this dissuades herbivores. This species can be found on the seabed south of Florainsulam.
>>2485704>>2485707The parasitic Cynemorph evolves even further, now not only not harming the Phloomp, but helping it. Due to being so far removed from it's predcessors, it is now known as Nus, for easier distinguishing. Now, rather than relying on slow fermentation for digestion, the Phloomp can digest food as fast as any other creature, using a "stomach" formed by it's symbiote.
>>2485695The Eastern Grundlemaw's limbs become larger and flatter, helping it swim.
>>2485686With their usual prey, the Poisonous Beyul, having gone extinct on Infecturran, the Moustached Dirtbugs there had to find other sources of sustenance. One species has converted it's moustache, previously used to store Beyul toxin, into an organ capable of producing and collecting a compound that induces rapid movement in the normally slow Dirtbug, allowing for short bursts of speed with long periods of slow movement. During these bursts, the Dirtbug assaults the Purpehote hives, eating their inhabitants. During it's slow periods, it subsists on organic material in the soil.
>>2485686With their usual prey, the Poisonous Beyul, having gone extinct on Infecturran, the Moustached Dirtbugs there had to find other sources of sustenance.Another species, now known as the Wormbug, instead of finding a new lifeform to eat has reduced it's dietary requirements to the point it could subsist entirely on the organic detritus in the soil.
>>2493791The Lobecrab has enhanced its feelers. The new, extended "feathering" greatly increases their surface, and next to the ability to feel, they now also intercept molecules in the water and identify them, giving the creature an incredibly advanced organ for smelling. The nerves have also been immensely compressed within the organ, and become highly sensitive, allowing the creature to sense vibration within the water, causing the feathered feelers to act as a lateral line of sorts.
In the vast expanse of the Occifloric Ocean (the ocean between Florainsulam and Solitudinus, unless it has already been named); the jet cynomorph makes an adaptation to increase its reproductive capability. It develops a new gland at the top of its body, which emits a meaty scent into the water. This attracts carnivores, which bestows two advantages to the cynomorph. Firstly the carnivores can be shot with spores, and secondly herbivores are deterred (which might otherwise consume the cynomorph.)
>>2501087Many lobecrab take advantage of their powerful sensory apparatus to feed only at night or dawn / dusk, spending the daylight hours in deep water. This strategy allows them to evade diurnal predators of the mesopelagic zone, and so a nocturnal species is born: the feathercrab. The cranial feathers grow longer, increasing their surface area and sensory capability. The feathercrab also loses some pigment due to not appearing in the light.
>>2501540Woops, I misused mesopelagic, which is deeper than I had thought it to be. Just read "shallower water", like the region in which you'd find plants growing and would normally be daylight. I've updated the image to just say "shallower water."
>>2487840Just letting you guys know there are people actually pretty stocked about the outcome of this evolutionary cycle, I in particular am rooting for (>>2487840) to become a fully sentient race and start purging all the other notable species off of the face of the planet, proving once and for all that they are /qst/s chosen people
short on time at the moment so i wont be linking back to originals im afraid, and will be giving very short descriptions as i cant remember why i drew these.Grower Leviathans develop, larger streamlined bodies for long distance travel
>>2502342grower leviathan loses its useless bone back-plates and develops a powerful fin and belly rudder thing for more precise navigation
>>2502345grower leviathan grows skin over exposed bone head to aid with temperature management underwater, as well as refining its fin for long distance travel and overall getting larger
grundleshoff develops better sail for cooling itself
>>2502363grundleshoff becomes larger and gets given a nice colour change which aids in mate attraction
>>2502367Grundleshoffs become larger and faster as the fastest and tallest grundleshoffs are the ones that eat and survive
an offshoot of the grundleshoff, the hideback shoff loses its sail and develops leathery skin, due to its new harder skin and smaller size, hideback shoffs often spend them time cooling down in the mud and scavenging for food>>2502363this is descended from the same grundleshoff as this one
>>2502380 darker colours help with camo and a lower balancing point for the head allows for quicker travel in smaller spaces, allowing the hideback shoff to become far better at scavenging
>>2502387hideback shoff develops a smaller trunk that is more precise and begins storing large amounts of body fat for periods of low food supply.
needle head eels become smaller and thinner resulting in the need for less food and a lower chance of being removed from prey
>>2502404needle heads become smaller again, developing a much more compact and streamlined body with a larger blood sack
>>2502412needle-head becomes perfectly streamlined, with a smaller body and will often hunt in swarms
the zemeleaf? develops a harder more rigid structure that is less likely to get washed away or moved by surrounding objects as well as harder to be eaten, >>2502419 needle heads will often live/ hang around these plants waiting o ambush larger prey
>>2485701The Radat is now capable of sneezing in order to keep it's nose clean of sand.
>>2502435With the >>2502419 often approaching it and later departing, the Zemlecoral has begun producing seeds that stick to the creature, spreading them along with it.
>>2485690The Radpurp have begun eating the blue crystals glowing all over badlands, and excreting them over their hives, as the crystals are a good deterrent against predators. Being now able to take their main defense measure anywhere they want, the Radpurps spread all over the Badlands, some even venturing onto Tetrapetram.
>>2502892A population of zemle coral to the west of Florainsulam develops its reproductive strategy to a more sophisticated level. They begin to use the needlehead as a pollinator, and develop a system of three genders which a single plant passes through as it ages. Each coral requires pollen from all three genders in order to reproduce, and so they tend to be found in a higher concentration than their asexual predecessors.
>>2502342Facing competition from more advanced species (>>2502345 and >>2502351), this form of glower leviathon (specifically, a population in the Occifloric Ocean) adapts to a new role scavenging carrion from the sea floor. The bony plates on its back shift to its sides, becoming pointed like a barnacle or scute; it uses these to rasp at the flesh of large corpses, removing flesh which it can swallow. The animal also becomes much longer, increasing the amount of these plates that can fit on its sides (the increase in size also makes it faster, and resultantly more likely to be the first to a piece of carrion.)
>>2502351Many individuals of this species of glower leviathan, aided by their large size, become migratory. They gather from around the world at a traditional breeding ground in the Petram Isles, which becomes a favourite spot due to the abundance of feathercrabs in deep water which can be preyed upon. During the breeding season, males increase the size of their ventral fin; parts of the skin also darken to reveal a swirling pattern against the backdrop of green-yellow bioluminescence, which females find attractive. The leviathans navigate to the Petram Isles by means of the temperature taster, a unique sensory organ that senses the temperature of the water to a sophisticated level of accuracy. It works by intaking water through a passage and directing it into the wax chamber. The wax expands or contracts in response to the temperature of the water; this is measured by nerves anchored inside the wax.
>>2485686The Lungbug, after millennia of remaining unchanged, evolves longer limbs.
>>2502400The Hideback Shoff develops small sensitive probes on it's lower lip and nose, used for touching each other in a primitive social display.
>>2492359This is my first evo, the Low Protomion evolves longer horns, both for defense against natural predators and for attracting mates.
>>2487881Due to a freak mutation, a Prowler is born with patches of hard shell all over his body, much like the shell that protects his head. After a few generations this gene spreads throughout the local population, creating the Armored Prowler.
These orange Arctic bros evolve a coat of blister-like structures, which are filled with cheap waste nitrogen from respiration. This extra layer to their skin provides insulation from the cold waters of the ocean, whilst being much less energy-expensive than a layer of blubber fat.
>>2507424The horns of this species of low protomion increase still further in size as they take up a new role in their owner's lifestyle. The longhorn protomion becomes crepuscular, relying partially on their low horns to feel for obstacles around them such as shrubs and rocks. In order to hold up their now heavier front half, the muscles in their neck and biceps become larger and more powerful.
>>2485709With Nolurrans blocking sunlight, the Gas Nolors had to rely on the nutrients of others rather than minerals of the soil to survive. They have developed specialized roots across their lower section, used for sucking up organic material from whatever creatures died near it.
>>2508500With Gas Nolors now deriving sustenance from corpses, those Purpehotes who left their dead near their Nolor were more successful than those who didn't, enforcing this behavior.
>>2485704The Parasitic Farcesaur has developed an unusual arrangement of teeth and a diminutive size compared to other Farcesaurs, allowing it to anchor itself on the >>2508492 and feed on the blood gushing from the wound made by it's teeth.
>>2502854This is not a change in appearance, only behavior, so no picture. A thin film of transparent flesh protects the Sneezing Radat's eyes from sand, the sand is cleaned off the film using its snout, it is then sneezed out.
>>2485712The first colonist of the caverns of Terrapetram is a derived species of the ever-malleable aquatic zemeleleaf. After the pores of some zemeleleaves in the sea around Terrapetram are washed into the caverns via sea caves, they undergo significant changes in morphology and survival strategy. The new species, the zemle-shroom, has only one leaf segment. In this segment are a ring of pores, which which it filters nutrients from the water flow. As can be seen in the image, the zemle-shroom grow at a angle such that the exposure of the pores to the flow of water is maximised.
>>2487874Some plate crab eggs are, like the spores of the zemleleaf washed into the cavern system of Terrapetram. Finding a food source, the zemle-shroom >>2508806, they are able to survive in this relatively harsh environment. Their front two feelers grow longer, allowing them to better feel around their immediate area. The central horn on their head becomes hollow, allowing the plate caverncrab to blow air through it (from an internal sac) and create a sound. It uses this acoustic capability for communication with other caverncrabs, as well as the base for a primitive sonar.
>>2508492Now that's what I call BEEF
>>2508835The Caverncrab adapts to the partially flooded caves further, it's flippers morphing into primitive legs and it's feelers starting to absorb air.
>>2506136A ball of hard muscle forms at the end of the Hideback Shoff's tail. It can be used as a club to fend off predators.
>>2487885The fingernails of the Cannibal Prowler grow into claws, great for carving up the weaker Prowlers.
>>2485680RIPThis is why you don't stall the game for a damn month.
>>2519675Eh, many of the players were out of town or else afc. Kinda bad week.
