>Previous Thread>>2402444>Archivehttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Arch%20MagnusLast time on Warlord Quest, Our Intrepid (and massive) hero Arch Magnus finished his search for the last of his ingredients necessary for the Ritual of the Life Drinker. In the Cairn of the Ancient warrior Trulas Storm-Blade, Magnus fought and killed a Seeker of the Church of Moonlight, a deadly foe made laughably easy by incredible luck. His wounds healed and fresh loot in his pockets, Magnus and his companions set off on the three day journey home to The Crag. Unbeknownst to them, conflict is brewing in the lesser clans. The Cave Stalkers howl for blood, the backwards savages readying themselves for the greatest fight of their lives, spurred on by a grieving Chieftan. The Wyrm Killers sit in their huts and sulk, unaware of the impending storm of stinking, inbred filth. But that, while it is your doing, is not necessarily your problem. Right now all that fills your mind is getting a hot meal, a strong drink, your bandages changed and maybe ravaging your women for a day or five.>Stats and gear incoming.

You lean heavily on Urhost, your healing wounds sore and tiring you. The brisk, fresh air of the crag fills your lungs as you pass through the natural arch of the cloven mountain. You lift your hammer in greeting to the men and women that come to greet your party, your companions clapping your back as they recount your story. You smile wearily and bear the commotion well enough, noting several younger warriors glaring at you in what you guess is jealousy. You ignore them and focus on making sure you neither collapse or let Arvel make you look bad.>Go speak with Throth. Make sure he knows of the situation with the Cave Stalkers.>Go speak with Barbas. >>2410453Did we not take any of the armor out of the tomb?
>>2410453>Go speak with Throth. Make sure he knows of the situation with the Cave Stalkers.gotta talk to the big man
Rolled 1 (1d100)>>2410453Theory Duergir griffin
>>2410453>Go speak with Throth. Make sure he knows of the situation with the Cave Stalkers.Need to make sure our chieftain is aware of a possible tribal war brewing and our part in it.Also QM what would a high ranking seeker be like stat wise? Also do the moonies have a high priest/ess or high inquisitor?
>>2410453>Go speak with Throth. Make sure he knows of the situation with the Cave Stalkers.Always take care of business first
>>2410460Nah we didn't. Other then the sword our loot was from the moonies. The armor was decayed unlike the sword (which was unaffected most likely due to being magic).
>>2410453>Go speak with Throth. Make sure he knows of the situation with the Cave Stalkers. Then we meet Durigir to get our rune, then we head to our cave to drop off our loot and gristly trophy, then we recount the tale of our adventure to the thralls and "rest."

>>2410475You haven't earned another rune yet but you did get a good chunk of progress toward the next one. You'll be notified when youve earned the next one.
>>2410484Ah, I see. We have to gather the ingredients AND sufficiently impress the spirits first. That's a pretty good level-up system OP.
>>2410467A high ranking seeker would be something like>600HP>60-80Armor >Moonlight Blade 3A 2D 2dd>Frost Shield- deal 2D100 ice damage on highest successful defense rolls>Corrupted strength- +20 to feats of strength/damage.>Ash Bearer-If critically or mortally wounded, Become Corrupted Servant.>Ice and Shadows- +20 to dodge and -20 to enemies chance to hit.Something like that.
>>2410492You have the ingredients for the Ritual which is different than a Rune. Rituals and Potions are upgrades offered by Duergir which you have to get the ingredients for. Runes are direct upgrades from Vall, the Patron Deity of Manliness and Asskickery. You can go to Duergir at any time to get the Ritual performed now that you have the ingredients for it.
>>2410493How does caius and brune stack up in comparisonI like seeing these little monster manuel like snippets, especially since we use them to set goals for our growth. We've seen Iron horns the wild men chieftain can you add any more as well like the king of the men of the wastes?
>>2410493That'd be a difficult foe, but not impossible with backup and a few upgrades to our runes, skills, and equipment. Out of curiosity, what are a Corrupted Servant's stats, and what were Throth's stats in his prime?
>>2410495Oh, I assumed the ritual was the process for creating a rune, and the ingredients were necessary to prove we were worthy of receiving it. So if I'm getting this straight, potions and rituals are basically boons from lesser spirits which require ingredients to create, and runes are boons from Vall, which he bestows once he feels we've done enough to earn it?
>Throth.Youre tired, sore, stinking and mildly delirious but you did kind of stir the proverbial pot so you should probably inform Throth of your actions. Pushing free of the press, you make your way through the crowds, waving tiredly to those that call your name and welcome you home. The switchbacking trail that leads up to the lair of the Old Wolf is murder on your legs on the best of days. Right now? Its nearly hellish. But climb you do and its only a matter of minutes before you find yourself high above the hubbub of the crag. Looking down you sigh happily, noting the crowd around a brawl in the Pit, a pair of young men beating themselves silly to a cheering crowd. The bustle of the bonfire and cooking fires tended by thralls and young women, the beat of a drum and voices raised in song lifting up to your ears. The smoke of Hemmiks forge, black and sooty but pure and righteous in its own way. You sigh happily and almost jump as a voice comes from behind you"Nice view isn't it my boy?"Throth chuckles, leaning on the sturdy wooden rail and looking down at the tribe he has led for nearly forty years. "I like to come out here and just.. Look. Especially when she.."He motions with his head towards the flap to his home, Sheema busily rummaging around"Gets to nagging me"You both laugh, the aging Chieftan clad in layers of wolf and bear hides, the scarred and puckered skin of his cheek and head shining in the mid afternoon light. He gestures towards the Crag and continues"Ive led the Crag Wolves through many things boy. War. Famine. Sickness. Harsh winters and storms that broke the mountains. Ive seen the greatest acts of kindness and the worst cruelties imaginable. Im old Magnus but ill be damned if I don't do my absolute best for my people. For their future. But times are changing. Duergir told me Vall is speaking to us again. To you. The stars are aligning and even that old goat can't read what they say.">What say?

You nod, turning to look the elder warrior in the eye"Aye. Vall's been pounding me on the head with all these damned dreams. War and death and things I can't tell are in the past or the future."Throth raises an eyebrow, biting his cheek as he listens"When we went to a cairn to find grave ash the damned moon shits were already there to try and desecrate and destroy everything. They claimed their 'goddess' had counted our ancestors sins and named them heretics"Throth scowls, spitting over the edge in disgust and nods."Hope you killed the bastards slow. They've always been fond of wiping out every bit of our history they can find."Youre silent for a momenr before rubbing your hand across your brow and focusing on Throth"I don't know what but there is something brewing in the near future like a great thunderhead building in the distance. We need to get all the wayward sons of Vall to get their heads out of their arses and get ready to fight the moon lords, the wildmen, whatever else that may be stirring. Because something is coming. Something big"Throth stares into the distance for a long moment before he nods."So this is how it begins? The great conflict of our time? Two men on a mountainside... But you're right boy. The time has come. Vall wouldn't send you visions unless he knew you had something great to do. He wouldn't bother if you werent worth his time"You turn to Throth fully and lower your voice, speaking carefully."Chieftan...I'm no coward but Vall isn't one to give portents of dread and death without cause, and I wake up too often now in a cold sweat, my heart trying to rip its way free of my chest. When was the last time something like this happened? Got to be centuries since Vall bothered to speak to us. To anyone"Throth is silent as he considers your words, the years of tribal wisdom providing the fuel for a mental firestorm that burns to the answer"Honestly boy? I couldn't tell you when the last time anyone was actually spoken to. Lots of cunts have claimed to be chosen by Vall, leading warbands to bloody death. I like the man as much as anyone else and he deserves our respect, but he's long past his prime and that sword will lay on his cave floor, and be of no use to anyone. Trulas's spirit doesn't deserve that, and we've earned it.

You turn to the Chieftan and sweep your hair back sheepishly"We did run into some tribals on the way to the cairn we visited"Throth looks at you curiously, raising an eyebrow curiously"Oh? Who was it?"You forge on, theres only two ways Throth could take the news anyway."Cave Stalkers. I decided that we couldnt sneak around them safely and so we fought and killed all but one of them. I sent the survivor back to their Chieftan with their raid leaders head. His son's head. With a warning from the Wyrm Killers"Throth glares at you for a moment before blinking in shock, his eyes widening in understanding and a broad grin spreading across his face."Ohhhh boy you nearly earned yourself a thrashing there! The sister fuckers and the has-beens at each others throats? Ahhh my boy that's a brilliant plan. Brilliant. Why fight your foes at their strongest when you can make them weaken each other?""Speaking of the cairn. I managed to retrieve the blade of Trulas Storm Blade before the moonies destroyed it. I offer it to you Chieftan"You pull the blade from your pack and kneel, offering it with both hands to Throth.Throth grunts, looking down at you and the blade. Carefully, he lifts it from your grasp, pulling the hilt to inspect a few inches of the staticky blade."This... This is an ancient and storied blade lad. Its slain great foes, ogres, Wyrms, united a dozen tribes through strength of arms. But... I'm old boy. Ive no need for a hero's blade when my days of heroics are long past. Keep it boy. You'll need it"Throth says slowly, placing the blade back into your hands. >Sorry for the late start. Been a busy day coupled with some health issues.>Speak with Duergir. You decide that you didnt go through all of that effort for nothing and that Duergir should probably take a look at your wounds and critique Wren's work. You make your way to ground level and crouch into the shadowy crevice of Duergirs home, the air heavy with incense smoke and smoldering herbs. You duck your head to avoid the jagged stone of the roof as you walk, the old shamans muttering growing clearer as you approach. You step into the rounded, dimly lit cavern that Duergir calls home, the old shaman hovering over a young man with a bandaged arm. The wounded warrior groans wearily as Duergir dips thin shards of bone into herb mixtures before jabbing them into the tissue of the youths bicep. He pats the young man on the head and rises"There lad. That should speed the healing up. Try not to stray too close to those beasts next time"Duergir glances at you as he totters by, leaning heavily on his gnarled staff. He thumps your chest with a withered hand and whispers"Idiot got too close to one of those griffins. Beast layed his arm open to the bone. His wrinkled fingers deftly undo the layers of bandages from your chest and hip."Got yourself torn up a bit eh Magnus? Ahh... Had a run in with a Seeker did you?"He mutters as he inspects the gouge in your chest, the healing tissue sensitive but a healthy pink around the wound instead of inflamed red or necrotic black."Looks like Wren solved the frozen flesh well enough. Smells like... Bitterthorn extract and Coalberry oil. That'll do the trick well enough."You bear the inspection, poking and prodding well enough, wincing slightly as Duergir applies some stinging green oil to the slash on your wrist, the skin turning an angry red but lacking any stinking pus. You motion to your pack with your free hand and clear your throat"I managed to round up all of the ingredients you asked for Duergir. Am I strong enough for the ritual or should I wait to heal?"Duergir chuckles, glancing at the pack and nodding to you"Aye my boy. If you're not strong enough I doubt any of us are"You both chuckle as Duergir finishes his inspection, declaring you "a bit battered but otherwise fine". You allow the old shaman to replace your bandages and retrieve the needlelike teeth, vial of thick, dark blood and the pouch of grey dust.Duergir inspects each ingredient carefully before nodding approval, leaning heavily on his staff"Im ready to perform the ritual if you're ready to undergo it">Im ready>Im not ready>I have some questions>Other

Remain still and for the love of the spirits don't say anything"You obey the ancient Shaman and remain still as a statue as Duergir places black, squat candles in a circle around you, a incense burner made from a human skull between your knees and rubs some sort of ash across your brow."Guardians and patrons of death, consumers of blood and souls, we call upon you."He chants, mixing the grave dust and hearts blood in a bone cup, adding oils and powdered herbs."A worthy supplicant calls upon you! A warrior of great strength and set with terrible purpose! Your hunger for life, your thirst for vitality he seeks a share of!"His chant grows louder, his grasping voice echoing unnaturally as the shadows lengthen, the candles suddenly providing not nearly enough light."The fangs of a drinker of blood, claimed in righteous combat! Blood, pulled from the heart of a worthy foe! Dust, which we all are and shall return to, dust of the grave! These offerings we give to you! By these rites i bind thee! By these sigils, I summon thee!"The needle sharp fangs are dipped into the thick, black mixture and drug across your skin, tracing strange swirling designs upon your flesh. Your nose, cheeks, jaw, throat and chest are all covered in the strange mixture. The shadows and smoke swirl together, figures stepping forth, figures that reject your minds attempt to describe them. Eyes as black as night but glowing with a terrible dark light fix on you with the endless hunger of those who can never be truly sated. Duergirs voice has risen to a shout, echoing like thunder on the mountains"I call upon and bind thee! I implore and command! Give unto this warrior your unending thirst for the lives of his foes! Let their blood and lives nourish his flesh! Let their death feed his life! What say you Tuarevath?! WHAT SAY YOU?! DEVOURER I CALL UPON YOU"He bellows, slamming his staff into the ground with such force the earth trembles, the spirits corporeal forms faltering for a moment as they step back, eying you and the ancient Shaman carefully. >Cont
Finally one steps forward, its form shifting through eye watering combinations before settling on the shadowy outline of a man, eyes glowing like dying coals and a shattered, jagged crown upon his brow."Duergir. Your natural time was long ago. Even the gifts bestowed upon you will not last the endless march of years. Will you not claim our gift yourself? Feast upon the lives of those weaker than yourself... Few that they may be."Duergir stamps his staff against the floor, pure force rippling the Devourers form before the spirit reforms itself."You above all should remember my power. Mind your tongue lest you be cast down... Again"The spirit straightens, nodding curtly before bowing its crowned head, wisps of black smoke curling from its body"My... Apologies... Wise One. A jest. We above all know the might of the Old One. This mortal... This... Magnus. He has sent many to us. He has fed us well... For a mortal. Perhaps with our blessing... More sustenance could be gained no?"The spirit steps closer to you, the details of its form refusing to make themselves clear as it gazes down upon you. Those glowing eyes fix on yours and seem to tilt upwards in a knowing smile."It shall be done Duergir Far-Seer. By the old accords and by the rituals of binding, I, Tuarevath, The Great Devourer, Claimer of forgotten souls and Consumer of the unworthy, do bless this mortal. May thw blood of his foes nourish his body. May their souls lend him strength."Before you can move the spirit lunges forward, driving its incorporeal, clawed fingers into your chest. You gasp in, not pain, but intense discomfort as it *grips* your heart. Your skin crawls, your blood boils, a intense and unnatural hunger begins clawing into your belly. You gasp as the claw is withdrawn, Duergir watching carefully.Thw old shaman steps forward as the spirit withdraws, sniffing its claws and chortling"Ohhh... This one... This one will feed us greatly. A veritable bounty that may sate even OUR endless hunger. Well done Wise One... Well done indeed"With that the spirit fades away like mist, its glowing eyes fixed on you until the final traces of its body fade away. Duergir hobbles over to you, suddenly seeming very small and frail. He puts a withered hand on your shoulder and shakes you gently"Magnus? Are you ok lad?">Gained- Life Drinker trait- 10% of damage dealt is returned as HP.>What say?

Ive been dying longer than shes been alive!"He laughs, sitting wearily and massaging a swollen knee with both handsYou tear into the fresh, slightly warm, rich bread happily, ripping away large chunks and chewing greedily. Duergir sighs tiredly, a small smile on his face as he leans his back against his bench, his staff held against his shoulder"Are you alright old man? It seems like that tires you greatly"You ask, noting the droop to the old shamans demeanor.Duergir chuckles, nodding slowly"Aye Magnus... It taxes me greatly to call upon the spirits like that but dont worry about me Magnus.. Ive done more with less"You bow your head and bid the ancient Shaman farewell and carefully make your way from the cave, cursing as you scrape your head against the jagged ceiling. >Griffin PupThe irritable screeches of the griffin pups carry on the wind, the rapidly growing beasts calling hungrily. You look up to the sky and look longingly at the flap to your dwelling, your bed calling your name from within. But urgent matters await and you must sort with them. You pick your way through the village, Thralls and children alike nearly get underfoot and you have to dodge around several members of the tribe that get in your way unknowingly. The sheltered shelf of stone that serves as the griffin pups temporary home is littered with downy feathers, scraps of hide and fragments of bone, the stink of griffin dung sharp in the air. The beasts have grown, fed on flesh and fat, bone and viscera. Their feathers are growing in nicely, their plumage sleek and shiny. Your scarred pup eyes you carefully, squawking and chirping as it pulls at its chain, clacking its beaks and fluttering its wings.>Feed the pup>Attempt to train the pup>Socialize the pup>Other

Now"And approach your griffin pup slowly. You extend your hands slowly to the beast and it sniffs at your palms for a moment, clacking its beak softly and chirping as you allow it to prod your hands in search of food."Hey there big guy. Miss me? None of this lot are brave enough to bother you eh? You'd have had fun with me, we got to kill a beast, a big Shrieker, some stinking t ribals and even some of those frosty fucks"The griffin of course doesn't understand your speech but the calm tone settles the pup down and it plops down against your boots as you scratch between its wings, its long talons curling and unfurling on the floor.>Roll me 1d100 to see how the feeding and socialization goes. >65>DC50. >Griffin Pup relation increased! You spend a few hours with the griffin pup, scratching its head, wings and belly as it chirps happily. The bucket of meat scraps is delivered and promptly emptied down the griffins seemingly bottomless gullet. You're sure the beast is getting quite familiar and very comfortable with you, currently snoozing against your feet being good evidence. You had sat and talked with the pup, telling it stories, jokes, self reflections and your own thoughts to acclimate it with your voice. The beast seemed intelligent, watching you closely when you spoke and chirping aggreably."Alright birdy, I need my foot back"You speak softly as you retrieve your foot from the griffins clutches, leaving the sleeping beast to rest and digest its meal. >Women time>Sorry about that I had a medication induced power napYou leave your snoozing griffin pup and make your way back to your home, the beckon of your bed and the comforts provided by three women too much to ignore. Three days of hard march on wounds and bearing full packs is enough to sap the energy from anyone. The hours left in the day have no bearing on your decisions and you rap against the bearskin flap tiredly, leaning against the stone mouth of the cave. A faint scuffle from within before Ysolde's voice calls out from within"Who's there?"You smile to yourself and sweep the flap aside, Ysolde and Keera jumping in shock before they get over their alarm, small smiles spreading across their faces"Magnus! Youre back!""Oh! We heard you were back!"You smile contentedly at the pair of women, setting your pack and weapons down by the entrance to the cave before sweeping them both up in your arms to squeals of surprise and more than a little delight>Ask Ysolde something>Ask Keera something>Where is Mylea>Hammertime>Other

You look around your home as you shed your leathers and undershirt, grabbing a skin of mead from the wall and biting the plug free you collapse backward onto your bed, kicking your boots off. Ysolde smirks at your laziness and Keeras eyes flick to the glimpse of shiny trinkets within your pack. You gesture vaguely, noting the absence of your third woman"Where's Mylea run off to?"You chuckle, knowing the bubbly girl would be the last to run from youYsolde points outside and shrugs"Her and Shalla are doing something with the little ones today. She was up late making those sweets for them"Keera discretely brushes golden brown crumbs from the bed as she sits by your feet"We *might* have eaten a few. They were good!"You lift an eyebrow and smirk"A few?"Ysolde and Keera look sheepishly at each other, shrugging"Maaaybe more than a few""A few... Ysolde blushes, looking away and smiling softly as you squeeze the warm flesh. "I-I mean... Um.... Keera ate them too!"She points accussingly at the smaller girl who yelps as your arm shoots out, scooping around her waist and pulling her to you, your palm pressed possesively against her rear"Is that true Keera? Did you also deprive me of those sweets?"Keera stutters and stammers, her eyes wide and cheeks flushed crimson as your hand roams across her bottom. She goes to speak but squeals as you grip tightly"Seems ill have to enjoy some other sweet treats tonight"You growl, lifting both the girls and tossing them easily onto your bed. Ysolde and Keera both share a look, swallowing audibly"Ohhh dear""Mercy?">Hours passYou lay back on your bed, nude and sweaty, Keera and Ysolde draped across your frame. You lean your head back, holding the sleeping pair of girls closely. They murmur in their dreams, nuzzling into you and allowing you to bask in the combined warmth. The cushion of piled skins and furs cradles your head and within moments, sleep claims you as well.Your dreams claim you a moment laterA burning city, fallen warriors strewn about like a child's discarded dolls. The streets run like rivers of gore, ashes and cinder hissing as they fall from the infernos that consume entire quarters of the city. A tall, circular keep rises from the center like a sword from the earth, upon its roof, A armored figure sags to one knee, bracing his weight on a slender sword. Bloof flows freely from the rents in his once shining suit of plate. His helm lies discarded, battered and dented, smeared with blood. A tall figure, his face hidden behind a great helm, his blackened armor studded with barbs and spikes, sigils and runes carved into the metal paces around him, gesturing out to the dying city, the sounds of battle and conquest rising like the roar of the ocean."Why do you fight? Why must it come to this? Lundelor has fallen, your people slaughtered in droves or taken as thrall, my victorious hordes rightful due. Your sons? Dead on the field by mine own hand, save the one still at his mothers teat. He will live as one of mine. A Son of Vall. Tell me, Oh great King of the Riverland, was your valiant stand worth it? Was allowing my army to pass unchallenged truly worth all this bloodshed?"The wounded man speaks, spitting blood and struggling to rise, his maimed leg refusing to bear his weight"The Gods themselves told us of your deeds! Foul and beyond count! Butcher and murderer! Blasphemer and Heretic! How could I stand and let a.. A... Stinking barbarian, one who insults the gods by BREATHING alone to pass through my lands? Curse you! Curse you!"Vall chuckles, his voice like the grinding of great stones together as he rips his blade free from its sheathe, standing over the fallen king"You stood aye.. Now you kneel.... And now...?"He hefts the blade high, the edge gleaming like a razor and crackling with untold power"You die with your city"You wake as a soft, warm figure crawls atop you, Mylea's long, curly blonde hair dragging across your skin as she situates herself with a sigh of contentment. You say nothing, simply smiling up at the ceiling as her breathe slows and deepens before rejoining your women in slumber. This time, Vall leaves your dreams be and you wake refreshed with the morning light, peeling yourself from the sprawl of your women with sleepy groans and clutching hands.
