Hello everyone! I have been participating in evo games for a while now and I felt this was a great place to start one! I will say I am basing a few elements pretty heavily on a few other evo games that have existed on /qst/ hence why some of this might look familiar to some people. That being said though my intention is to not "rip-off" others but instead offer my variation on a fun game for everyone. How to Play:- Open an image of a species in the editor of your choice (something that can do pixel art preferably)-Make one evolutionary change to that species-Save as .PNG!-Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why-Indicate what generation your creature is. (base organisms are Gen 0)-A creatures size or name aren't necessary, but are encouraged.-Anything incredibly silly or outlandish will not be considered a cannon species 95% of the timeNotes:-Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve.-Try to make your evolution gradual and realistic by biological standards-Every 24 hours I'll add an updated phylogeny chart to track changes. (Please be patient, these can take a while)-Every 24-48 hours I'll be rolling for a Random World Event.-Every 3-4 days will mark the end of an era with a mass extinction. (these scheduled events will vary slightly due to my working schedule, apologies)-Have fun!~~Also feel free to ask questions! I will be putting the map in the post below because this one is getting long
-Setting-Planet classification: CZ-842, it orbits a Binary star system (one red sun and one yellow sun)Atmosphere: 68% Nitrogen, 13% Argon, 9% Oxygen, 7% Other Gases, 3% Carbon DioxideMoons: 2Average Global Temperature: 29°C (79°F) Tectonics: None detectedVolcanic Activity: Very MinimalWeather Systems: Slow-moving thunder storms
Base Ibloh SpeciesGen 0
Base Chak SpeciesGen 0
Base Odra SpeciesGen 0
Base Avax SpeciesGen 0
Base Derar SpeciesGen 0
>>2379266The Odra species better develops its ability to swim away from Avax predators as those with fanned out tails survive in greater numbers, using their tails like proto-fins.Gen: 1
>>2379281The Derar has grown longer pseudopeds to increase the amount of ground they can cover in a shorter amount of time, allowing it to gather more nutrients. The front of the Derar has grown larger as a result of the greater intake of food.Gen: 1
>>2379274Some of the Avax have developed a change in color, for those with a color and pattern similar to the Derar have a better chance of successfully hunting them and reproducing.Gen 1
Oh shoot, I knew I forgot somethingPretty much every species doesn't really have a way to "see" things, they kinda aimlessly float around the ocean until they happen upon food. Don't let that stop you from changing their colors though, but it won't really help or hinder with their hunting/hiding ability
The Avax has developed a wider foot which it uses to skirt along the ocean floor making it faster allowing it to more easily catch prey. Its darker coloration comes from its broader diet. gen: 1
>>2379838crap forgot pic
>>2379809>>2379843I guess we have a branch already.
>>2379828opps>>2379809(Closest I got to a fix) Color change is because it absorbs the pigments from its prey
>>2379853Nah you're good man, I completely spaced on providing that tid-bit, I like the direction you went in, its different from what I normally see in Evo Games
Hmm, anyone know if there are any unspoken rules on the creator of the game making some evos? (im sure as long as I don't do too many I should be ok right?)
>>2379916Your game, do what you want.
>>2379843(ah screw it, as long as I don't do it too often im sure its ok)The Avax grows longer to help hunt and subdue its preyGen 2Size: 3.2 cm
would be a shame to let this thread die. I'll post some stuff when I'm home
>>2379261Some Ibloh forgoe the colony building in favor of personal defense. Seeing as the Chak likely nibbles off of the only slightly smaller Ibloh, a layer of protective hardened plant matter makes these single Iblohs much more likely to survive. Doesn't help against Avaxes, sadly
>>2379281some Derar develop some of their little nubs to grow longer in order to feel out the ground in front of them, to find where the good eat is at
>>2379428Some Avax grow larger fins with which stronger, single pushes through the water are possible, but which are also usable as weapons>>2379971by the way OP, if you want feedback: contentwise, you did everything right, with the possible exception of having undefined plants. But the timing's terrible, there are currently TWO big evogames going on and one's already exhausting enough for players. I don't think there's the player base for three, considering the amount of emotional involvement usually inherent in playing evogames. If this thread doesn't take off, I would recommend using the exact same creatures and map some time later when competition is lowerGen3
>>2379215I'll bump this. Will be coming back tomorrow morning to play
>>2380541Some Avax develop more hydrodynamic heads and longer bodies allowing for increased speed and maneuverabilityGen4 im about to post that largish update for traditional evo, so i'm not going to have time to participate in your game, hope it all goes well otherwise your always free to take up the offer of Co-GMing
>>2379261some Ibloh just go ham on growingGen 1
Oh! Also one more thing, as of right now no creature is gonna be able to survive if it is above 7cm, so keep an eye on how big you make them.(one of these days im going to actually post all the useful info at once)
>>2379263The cillia on the Chak have grown longer allowing the Chak to move quicker, in addition their middle section has grown thinner but more robust this allows the Chak to fold itself, this allows the Chak to manuver in tighter spaces as well as being able to have all its cillia pointing in a single direction allowing it to more readily escape predators.Gen: 1
>>2380685>>2380726so what's going on with this samefagging?
>>2380737I got an invite.
>>2380737Oh! I keep forgetting its based off of IP, CrappyArt Droid and I have the same one so it looks like we the same person, but I assure you, I don't play like that (it takes literally all the fun out of a game do be That Guy)
>>2379809Some Avax have one of their cells grow immensely, with it's nuclei majorly increasing in processing capability due to being able to store and use much more DNA, and gain the ability to produce neurotransmitters, giving this species of Avax a "brain" much smarter than that of other Avax.
>>2380541The Odra's fin now stretches over it's whole body length, improving it's mobility considerably.
>>2379263Some of the Chaks have developed a very basic chemical sensory organ which allows them to better track Ibloh and avoid OdrasGen 1
>>2379756to defend from ever faster and ever smarter Avax, some Derar form a shell to protect them
>>2380602A branch of Ibloh begin to trade information and nutrients amidst their colony, allowing for better health overall and improved ability to respond to a variety of threats, to the level that they can.Gen 2
The Odra has evolved into a true predator. It uses its horn like antenna to sense the disturbances its prey makes as they move through the water. This adaptation has improved its chances of hunting successfully, the increase in its caloric intake has darkened the color of its body.
Thanks so much for everyone who replied! Yall got some cool stuff going on.Anyway here is the first day's phylogeny chart, its pretty neat to see who yall took a liking to
>>2383080You forgot >>2380974
>>2383108ah shit, hold on
also hoo boy, this event I rolled is a real good one, I hope we get enough evos to not cause too much issues though ;)
hmmm, maybe I will try this one later; feel like peeps are just too fatigued to participate in this many evo games. (oh well, I need to rework the world anyway)
>>2380538The Sterar has small, easily ruptured nodules of acid on the ends of it's tentacles, helping it defend against predators and digest food.
>>2379971The Ravax's foot grows wider, with some sections more pronounced than others, improving it's mobility. In addition, it develops small bony formations on it's arms.
Some of the Derar have begun outgrowing their shells, causing them to crack. A particular pool of Derar begin developing softer internal walls that allow their shells to be cracked from the inside, but not the outside, allowing them to grow larger.
(Apologies for awful art)Some colonies of Ibloh begin developing thinner, not larger, forming rudimentary tendrils of material capable of sticking slightly out of the ocean tops to attempt photosynthesis.
>>2384029Nah dude, doesnt matter how good or bad the art is, im just happy yall are playing
>>2379274Avax evolves to have way more friends and is very good at playing the piano
>>2384009The Ravax has evolved a long tail which it slaps against the ground lifting it upward where it then uses its foot like a makeshift glider giving it a greater range and mobility. it maneuvers by slightly adjusting its foot-wing to land on its prey, crushing it beneath its weight which makes it easier for the Ravax to eat.
Daily update! also holy piss shorts some of these are lookin real good. Also the World Event is gonna take a bit longer than planned, please be patient I think yall are gonna like it
>>2384029Individual ibloh develop fluid filled growths, rudimentary tentacles to ease movement through the colony.the colony itself wouldn't have the neural patches.
>>2384029Those tendrils gain some definition over time
>>2385879guys, this >>2381918 is a jpg, so all your shizzle is artifacted.Try using this>>2385881 png and try to only fill out without anti aliasing. Otherwise editing gets progressively harder
>>2381194The Chak develop little chunks of organic matter on some of their flagella, with which they can more easily force chunks of Ibloh off the main body
>>2380538Another subset of Derar develop a larger mouth to start consuming actual, non-rotten chunks of dead matter
>>2381194>>2381192An offshoot of Chak evolves a larger sensory organ and a bulged midsection with a small motor control organ. The flagellum have become more coordinated with the front now used for steering and grabbing Ibloh, and the back for thrusting forward
The flagella widen allowing for faster movement and better control
The ravak evolve potrusions to grab their prey and immobilize them sorry for shit art I'm on mobile
I LIVEAlso, >>2391423>>2391419I cannnot use these as they are anti-aliased and far too large compared to the other sprites. And >>2385879>>2384029and>>2381918Are all too aliased far too bad for me to condone using, so I went ahead and redid the sprites for people to use
The planet has been experiencing Frequent Earthquakes, causing more land to appear out of the ocean. This also has created shallows (1-3km) and Deep Ocean (7-11km)Atmosphere: 70% Nitrogen, 14% Argon, 9% Oxygen, 7% Other Gases, 5% Carbon DioxideMoons: 2Average Global Temperature: 24°C (75.2°F) Tectonics: Occasional Strong EarthquakesVolcanic Activity: Very MinimalWeather Systems: Sparse Rain, Slow-Moving Thunderstorms
>>2379261Some Ibloh evolve to be flatter, so they can absorb more sunlightGen 1
>>2379266Some Odra evolve small nubs along their body to help maneuver through the currents of the ocean.Gen 1
>>2380538These Derar evolve even more nubs at the front of them to grab bits of food as well as start trapping Chak that get too closeGen 2
>>2401405ibloh looks like a start to an eldritch abomination
>>2381193A trait that improves the survival rate of many Derars is the development of a hinged point in their shell. When threatened, the creature will curl up, protecting its soft underside. Now Named Curlar.
>>2379261While they've always clumped, some Ibloh begin to clump in a distinctive pattern. As their name suggests, Sea Fibers form into long, single-cell thick filaments that drift through oceans, often snagging onto rock reefs and filling in tide pools.Note: These fibers are incredibly delicate, being easy to break apart.
>>2380974Gen 3Improved tail allows the creature to push of the ground occasionally in order to go far distances in a short amount of time, however it is very uncontrollable
Alright, Today's Phenology chart, and a little teaser for everyone."As CZ=842's Moons sync and align the currents and waves of the world slowly sink into normalcy. Yet as the waves calm above, a deep drumming rumble comes from below; the sound of shifting, hungry fire from the planet's core ripples through the oceans, only time will tell what is in store for the defenseless creatures of this realm."
>>2404872Also, I think the idea is super cool, but keep in mind It is darn near impossible to used cropped images in a phenology format like this; so I had to edit it into a whole organsim... sadly it does end up looking quite a bit like... well.. shit.
>>2380602The Ibloh now have specialized tissue solely for storing nutrients.
>>2380578The Saw Odra has replaced it's two big teeth with six smaller ones, allowing them to chew their prey much more efficiently.
>>2383995The Sterar develop nubby feet, allowing it a mode of locomotion faster than sliding through the mud.
>>2381135The Odra develops an organ that allows it to sense basic levels of light.
what ever happened to the origional evo game? I miss it.
>>2406178I've always just done it like pic related. Bottom row.>>2407184How original are you talking?
Alright fixed more erroneous errors in the phenology chart. The next thing I am going to introduce before my next world event is that Gen 1 creatures are now "at risk" and Gen 0 are "frozen". At Risk (Orange): At the start of the next event all At Risk creatures will need to complete a roll. Anything that fails will go extinct immediately, anything that succeeds has until the next phenology chart (around 24 hours) to evolve before they also go extinct. Frozen (Light Blue): Any creatures with the Frozen label will still be alive in the world but are now non evolve-able
>>2409062" After many years of rumbling and cracking, a resounding boom echoes all across CZ-842; a large eruption followed by an earthquake that shook the planet so violently that bits of land were thrown about like so many small pebbles. Though, something peculiar happened; parts of the ocean and land after being tossed so angrily seemed to defiantly refuse to be thrown, sitting in the air in much the way that they ought not to.Thus was the birth of the strange floating seas and lands of CZ-842, a strange feat of magnetism? Magic? A particularly strong wind? Noone really knows -not yet anyway-, all we can do is see how the simple creatures of this strange world survive their new surroundings"*All At Risk creatures must roll a 1d20, anything higher then 9 may evolve, anything lower will go extinct ** All creatures were split evenly among both levels, go nuts (remember to show whether they have a specific location by giving it a FO (floating ocean) or LO (Lower Ocean) if it only for one of those locations World Stats:Atmosphere: 68% Nitrogen, 14% Argon, 10% Oxygen, 7% Other Gases, 6% Carbon DioxideMoons: 2Average Global Temperature: 22°C (71.6°F) Tectonics: Small earthquakesVolcanic Activity: MinimalWeather Systems: Sparse Rain, Slow-Moving ThunderstormsUnderside of floating ocean and islands: Rain, slow wind
Rolled 16 (1d20)>>2409062>>2406752 actually evolved from>>2380602, so it's actually gen 2Also rolling for >>2404100
>>2404100The Odra Down Under is a new variation of Nubby Odra that uses claws similar to it's teeth in order to grab onto the underside of the floating islands. So as not to fall, it always has at least three claws clamped onto the ground.
Rolled 10, 11 = 21 (2d20)>>2380726>>2380537roll
>>2380726In order not to fall down from the floating oceans and asphyxiate during the fall to the surface oceans, the Chak develop sacks of lighter-than-water gas on their backsides.
>>2405146The Avax develops twin pipes allowing it to propel itself with jetted-out water. Is there any reason the thread doesn't seem to be bumping?
hope for bump
Bump, hope this one stays alive
>>2409902Threads will not bump on /qst/ after 72 hours.
>>2410454So are we gonna make a new thread?
Probably, i guess the only question is do we wanna start off where we left off or do we wanna restart?
>>2410614I'd say we continue.
>>2409902>>2410099>>2410454>>2410534>>2410614>>2410624guys, set your catalog order to "last reply". On qst bump order means nothing. Start a new thread once this one's off the catalog, not before then
>>2406752There are Iblohs localize the nutrient storing tissue on one end of their colonies. There is now a hard, heavy core on the bottom and a long, whispy leaf on the top, the former doing some work towards anchoring the plant, the latter photosynthesizing.
>>2409742The Odra Down Under develops a photosensitive spot that can detect movement and light
>>2409871The Avax develops a small sensory organ on it's front, which is not particularly suited to any kind of sense but can pick up waves made by the movement of creatures, although it is very unprecise. The Avax also develops it's jets further, allowing it to rotate them.
Hey, longshorts here. Wanted to mention for anyone not in the evo game discord that im gonna be gone for a few days. Consider this a chance to go nuts evolving stuuff. (Not anything from gen 0 tho, those are still frozen)
Almost a hundred posts and we are still in the Precambrian.
Not the OP but have this
