You are Captain Kusajishi Riku, now reunited with your wife and the motley crew of humans and shinigami you came to the Schattenbereich to back up. But much to your frustration not only has Aizen Sōsuke finally put his plans to invade the living world into motion, he's also sent another pest to slow you down... which no doubt is the entire reason why he wanted you here badly enough to have Kurosaki Masaki and Ishida Kanae abducted and brought here. This arrancar, a large black man with a bony line of spikes on his scalp, looks like he couldn't hold up if you or Yoruichi were fighting him seriously on a level playing field, but that's exactly what you don't have right now. Instead you have wounded to see to, which no doubt will become a liability as soon as it looks like your new challenger is likely to lose. And if you know that, you have no doubts Yoruichi knows it as well. There was, after all, a time when she was your teacher. You share a glance. Then Yoruichi throws a 'punch', which you block and answer with a 'knee'. She lowers her right hand to 'block' it, and instead of swinging out and around your guard with her left foot like you expect her to she closes with a right 'elbow strike' which you rush to 'catch'... only to 'take' what would have been a vicious backhanded strike to the side of your head.“What is this?” Zommari mutters impatiently. “Have you lost your minds? Is there something in the Seireitei's water?”“I guess it's your turn anyway,” you sigh, giving her a playful little hip-bump as you pass. “I'll take care of the rest of it.”“Sounds good,” she replies. “Thanks.”“Just don't keep me waiting too long, you know how quickly I get bored.”You use a single hirenkyaku to 'appear' next to Ichigo with one hand held in front of your chest, two finger raised as if in meditation.“Bakudō 73: Tozanshō.”He watches as the barrier forms around the spot with the two of you at the center, fully protecting everyone who can't fight for themselves at this point. “That should be enough against an enemy like that... now let's see about your friends.”The wounds are serious, but with quick attention none of them are about to die any time soon. The real problem is the question of their stamina... you only have so much reiatsu yourself.“Ichigo,” you mutter. “If any of you brought along any gintō now would be the time...”>1/2
>>2373230You are Captain Shihōin Yoruichi, and there's always something so fundamentally enjoyable about having someone around all the time who really gets you. That's why when you face down this 'Zommari' character, you do so with a little bounce in your step.“Are you done?” he demands in a rumbling bass tone. You shrug. “Yeah, suppose that covers it. What'd you say your name was again?”“Zomarri Reroux,” the man repeats. “And I am the Seventh Espada.”“Shihōin Yoruichi, Executive of the Onmitsukidō and Captain of the Second Division,” you reply. “Seven, huh? So that would make you the seventh strongest behind Grimmjow, then?”Zomarri rankles at the suggestion that he's weaker than Grimmjow is, which by extension you suppose is a suggestion that he's weaker than you based on how badly you mauled the number Six last time you crossed paths.“Our rankings are based on reiatsu, not on technique,” Zomarri explains. “Any Espada incapable of killing their target regardless of their reiatsu is trash, unworthy of respect.”“And so you're here to clean up his mistakes, is that it?” you guess.“I am here because it was ordered,” Zommari counters. “But I will take pride in killing you for precisely the reasons you suggest.”The arrancar readies his sword, seemingly waiting on you to do the same.>Open with Raikohō, use your speed to get behind him while he's focused on the spell.>Draw your swords and attack, then use a flash step to catch him off his guard.>Use shunkō from the start, force him to show his full power so you can figure out a counter.>Other?

He manages to sidestep and avoid it, as you suspected from this range, but as he's focused on the spell you use an even faster shunpo to step into the blind spot behind his head. Then you sling a handful of anken at him, three at the tendons in his ankles and three at the back of his neck. Several sink into his body... too easily, you realize. The arrancar's blade slices deep into your back, and you stumble forward.“It is understandable you would be...” Zommari begins, only for you to interrupt.“Raikōhō!” you repeat, firing the spell a second time through your own afterimage's gut, using it as cover. The arrancar winces as the blast goes through his gut.“That was rude,” he chides you as his blade falls on you from the left and cuts into your shoulder.“So's this,” you retort, landing a roundhouse kick at the base of Zommari's neck. This time two copies of Zommari attack you from opposite sides, caution thrown to the wind now that it has to be obvious that you know what he's up to. Your response is to draw your blades and slice off the clones' arms, then you turn to face one more Zommari.“Are you having trouble keeping up?” Zommari asks you, taking a pause. “It is understandable when faced with such an ability. Out of all the Espada my sonido is the fastest. With just an extra step I can create a temporary clone.”“I see you are familiar with the shinigami equivalent, so you should be able to appreciate it. And a human too, for that matter.”“What you speak of is absurd,” Zommari asserts.“Not at all,” you insist. “My wife back there and I sometimes spar thirty-a-side. Wanna see?”Without waiting for a response you start the maneuver, using your stupendous speed to literally appear in... not quite thirty places, since your muscles are a little cold right now. You actually keep it down to twenty-three.Zommari's eyes widen. “What... what sort of sorcery is this?”“No sorcery,” a chorus of your own voice replies. “It's understandable that you'd have trouble keeping up... they do call me 'Shunshin' Yoruichi, after all.”You start by feinting, even before Zommari's done shouting at you for your taunt... you just couldn't help yourself, it was too perfect to pass up. The first attack slips around behind him, only for his blade to pass through the afterimage.“Been a while since I was there,” you taunt him from all angles as another image attacks him from behind again to the same effect,The third image appears behind him, and with a great shout he turns to cut it down as well. “Enough!”This time, your hand stops the hilt of his zanpakuto before he can strike, and his eyes widen as he realizes he's looking at the real thing, right in front of him.“Raikōhō.”The kidō blasts point blank into Zommari's hand, peeling the fingers off it like the wind might blow leaves off a tree. Then after blasting the sword away too, it takes off his palm and part of his wrist for good measure.Zommari disappears for a moment, having dashed to retrieve his zanpakuto. You can't help but grin.“Do you find that funny, Captain?”With surgical precision you strike your own tendons with one knuckle on your right fist, forcing your left thumb to flex and release your throat.“A little,” you admit, swiftly dislocating your left arm at the shoulder. “I always find it funny when my opponent explains his own abilities the second it looks like he's making progress.”You get a silent urging in your mind, which draws your eyes to where Riku is.“You see this?” she asks.Ah, so that's it? Usually a Captain would just jump straight to Dankū, but from what you can tell this will suffice. Now, for your next trick. “Danmaku Tenyō!”Dozens of brightly-glowing orbs of reiatsu manifest like oversized fireflies all around you and your foe, drifting lazily as if on a wind you can't feel.“What is this?” Zommari demands. “This hardly looks like an attack...”Oh, how quickly that changes. He shouts in pain as one of your projectiles slams into one of his eyes and ignites.“How does it feel to have the fluid in your eye boil?” you ask, directing more of the projectiles to strike him all over. Some hit hardened flesh, leaving slight burns against his body, but others strike true and burn out eyes. You focus your efforts on his left side, underneath his arm, until you're confident that none of his remaining eyes could possibly have a line of sight. And that's when you strike. You leave an afterimage and throw your full body weight behind the effort, in an almost humorous flying kick with both your feet that sends Zommari crashing into a wall.On your end... you fall flat on your ass, having failed to plan for what you'd do after the flashy kick. You just hope Riku didn't see that.Oh, who are you kidding. Of course she saw that.“How... dare you!” Zommari demands. “You think yourselves gods, fit to sit in judgment because we eat humans, but who gave you that right? No one! Your arrogance boggles the mind!”“Oh, shut up already!” you snap. “You're an arrancar, you have free will yet you chose this path.”“And I'm the consequence of that.”Judging by the way he's making such grand proclamations he's done, and he knows it already. Instead you pounce on him, putting your hand through the ribs under his left arm and out through his right shoulder, then sling the afterimage off your arm and use the solidified lighting like a spear to impale a second clone. Tatsuki's gonna hate me for this, but that's what I decided.”“Why, out of curiosity?” you press carefully.“Because she's been hurt badly enough already,” Ichigo explains. “And I don't want to heal her up just so she can get herself hurt even worse when it's not her fight to begin with. For Rukia this is part of her duty, so my being involved isn't the only reason she's here.”“I can't tell whether that's sweet or selfish,” Riku sighs. “But if that's your call, and I don't really disagree.”“Yoruichi? >You have to think strategically here. Sentimentality serves neither of them.
>MEANWHILE, ON THE STERNRITTER REACTION CAM:“Wow, that's... different,” Askin muses, actually leaning forward on his bean bag to get a better look at the screen. “The hell'd she just do?”“I am not interested,” Lille Barro mutters, lowering his hat over his eyes. “But since I will be expected to know the outcome, you can catch me up when it ends.”“Hey, come on now!” Askin protests. “It's just gotten interesting! Pernida, what is that thing she shoved him... Pernida! Hey!”The heavily-cloaked Sternritter has already left the room over Askin's protests. “Aaand he's ignoring me. Great. It's my mom, my dad, and my ex wife all over again.”“You're still paying attention, right Gerard?” he continues, turning to his last hope in the room only to find the man unusually stone-faced. “Hey, Gerard? Buddy? You still with us?”Gerard continues to stare at the screen even though nothing is happening, as though trying to extrapolate as much as possible from what little he could actually see of the fight between Äs Nödt and the shinigami Captain.“Don't bother him, Askin Nakk le Vaar,” Lille grumbles, lifting the brim of his hat slightly. “I can tell you what he is thinking... these two Captains are exceptionally dangerous opponents for the likes of us.”“You don't say?” Askin replies cheerfully, just happy that someone's actually acknowledging his presence. “How so? Is it just because they have hollow powers? Cause if that's what you mean, aren't we forgetting something?”“I have not forgotten your ability,” Lille contends, his good eye narrowing. “What I mean is that while all Captains are naturally stronger, faster, and more skilled than their subordinates... that is not enough to repeatedly challenge Sternritter in single combat and win each time. These two possess something else, something our Daten have not adequately characterized.”“Gimme an example,” Askin insists, trying to keep up the conversation. “What's that technique she just used?”“That is a Hell portal,” comes the grumbled response, Lille finally having given in and decided to explain the phenomenon still visible for now on the screen in front of them. “Even under the effects of the enhanced Fear of Äs Nödt's shrift, that Captain had the presence of mind to turn his own worst fear against him and drag him down to Hell.”>1/?>will continue when I have a chance later tonight/tomorrow
>>2380899Oh right. If he gets a bit of hollow in him, he's able to raise or lower the lethal dose, making him resistant and us poisoning ourselves.
>>2380899Well that leaves us with letters X, D, and C on the quincy list for us to even try to get through before getting to the princesses in the tower.
>>2381442A (for Aizen), B, C, D, H, J, L, M, N, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, Σ still around or assaulting fake Karakura. We should save some of those fights for our friends.
>>2381504That and the full contingency of Arrancars...
>>2381520Yhwach is dead in this continuity and Uryu defecting never happened. >>2381504Aizen might've also done an internal purge as well so some of those letters might not be there. You also made some mistakes on your part. >W was killed by Gin from the inside out,>U was turned into bone dust after going through Tia's Washing machine,
>>2381544My bad. I forgot.
>>2381504Several of those are also dead already.
>>2380899“And so... what exactly does that tell you, exactly?”Lille lowers the brim of his hat once more. “Shinigami are prohibited from anything to do with Hell. So the fact that she knows how to get to Hell at all means one of two things: that she has a far greater breadth of capability than even she realizes, or that her intuition is strong enough to make up for a lack of innate capacity and understanding of what she tries to do.”“So you're concerned that she might idiot-savant her way into countering your own abilities, same as she did with every other quincy she's ever fought?” Askin surmises.Lille Barro scowls, the expression obvious from the lower half of his face alone. “You should watch your tongue. It sounds almost as if you are accusing us of cowardice.”“Quite the contrary,” Askin assures his fellow Sternritter. “When you consider the two of them are dangerously competent to begin with, adding uncanny intuition to the mix and it's not an unreasonable concern.”“And the other one? Captain Shihōin?”“Another unknown quantity,” Lille Barro admits. “Even Aizen Sōsuke does not know the full extent of her Clan's armory. Anything she sees in battle, she may have a direct answer to at her fingertips.”“So her danger is her ability to analyze her opponent's abilities and produce a counter?” Askin summarizes. “Where does she keep those tools? Literally in her ass?”“Aizen Sōsuke surmised it has to do with her zanpakuto,” Lille explains. “Though she has demonstrated other powers which Aizen did not see her use before his departure from the Seireitei.”“A second zanpakuto like Captain Kusajishi's?” Askin muses. “How interesting.”“So you do pay attention to the briefings,” Lille grumbles. “In that case...”“Hey... don't go to sleep damn you!” Askin shouts, but it's too late. Lille Barro is already napping where he sits. Eventually even Gerard gets up and storms out of the room without even acknowledging his fellow Schutzstaffel member on the way.“Well then,” Askin continues, entirely to himself. “How interesting indeed... I wonder what sort of world those two would create, were they to defeat Aizen? I wonder which I'll get to see...”
>>2381875>“So you're concerned that she might idiot-savant her way into countering your own abilities, same as she did with every other quincy she's ever fought?” Askin surmises.First of all, how did they even get the impression that Riku is an Idiot-savant? briefings? Pictures of Riku in her clumsy moments? >Eventually even Gerard gets up and storms out of the room without even acknowledging his fellow Schutzstaffel member on the way.Well shit. We have to deal with Letter "M" in Quincyland.
>>2381983The one that post-palace Byakuya, true-bankai Hitsugaya, and bankai Zaraki couldn't kill. Yeah, that's gonna be troublesome.
>>2382007Surely there's a bankai-medallion that we could pick-up, have Yoruichi analyze it and then reverse engineer it to steal away a volstandig. That would neuter them bullshit sternritters. Shouldn't there be a bankai medallion from Cang Du lying around?
>>2381983They've seen her character sheet. For real though, it's more like she just does shit without realizing how difficult and/or impossible what she's trying to do actually is. Like, why would you need a complicated ritual or days of study and experimentation to open a Hell Portal? Why not just... you know. Open a portal to Hell? Was that supposed to be hard?
>>2382108considering that she has other methods of planar/dimensional travel down, the hell portal is just a varient of that in the end.
>>2382034>Considering Riku has used Vollstandig herself that might actually be possible. Huh
>>2382116Which makes sense to her.To anyone else who understands what's involved it's total bullshit that any of her skills can transfer like that. Descorrer shouldn't normally mean she can pop into and out of Hell or the Royal Realm with little or no effort, and yet Riku does it anyway. Because why let the little details stop you from doing what has to get done?
>>2382164I mean... its not a little effort though is it?Usually she just applies a shit ton of retsu (some of which is known to be reality warping god juice) in a very specific manner.
>>2382164I find it amusing that the men of science and intelligent background can't wrap their heads around the concept of applied simple A * B +"apply Hammer"= C logic that Riku uses. Hado #99 being neigh impossible due to how hard it is to grasp the concept? Apply Hollow Instincts and "get the concept" to complete the spell!Unable to get to Royal Realm due to being a separate Dimension? Descorrer basically lets you travel between dimensions and enter via a different entry point! Simple!Spiritually aware humans with powers? Need to monitor them or help their powers develop? Give them a Asauchi, shove their powers into said sword, and turn them into Shinigami! (This is probably the most bullshit feat attempted and done on any level)>To anyone else who understands what's involved it's total bullshit that any of her skills can transfer like that. It's almost like it's a she has a savant skill called "semantic transference">>2382108>They've seen her character sheetSo then what were the Sternritter and Espada reactions to the feats and skills that's been listed on there from reading it initially and rereading it a second time? Which skill combination unnerved them the most?Which stat/feat/skill made them flat-out say a variant of "This [insert skill/power] bullshit"What was the most frequent [top 3] statements made in regards to Riku's overall character sheet? You could theoretically make an omake where there's an Aizen's meeting (a parallel to Seireitei's Captain's meeting) where the topic of the day is Riku and her character sheet with the Arrancar and Quincy reacting and debating amongst each other about Riku's stats.
>>2382108>>2381875“So you're concerned that she might idiot-savant her way into countering your own abilities, same as she did with every other quincy she's ever fought?”hmm... thinking this over... To wit Riku's idiot-savant means of defeating Quincy involved:>Fought Bambietta and her Vollstandig, sliced up Bambi's Reishi bombs without detonating said bombs with a different sword, neutralizing her, making her a prisoner, and then somehow made Bambi a turncoat.>Fought Mask (the Superstar) and his Vollstandig. Tossed James into the dangai by a dimensional door trap and neutralized Mask, killed him with a coup de grace.>Fought The Question, rendered herself deaf and then turned said quincy's powers against her by asking questions.>Fought Cang Du, used bankai, but got bankai stolen, then Burned Cang Du to dust with the same bankai despite having it stolen from her>Fought As Nodt, Got Terrorized by Nodt's Vollstandig, somehow withstood the Terror, then opened a portal to hell and tackled As Nodt to Hell. Walks out of Hell like nobody's business.Yeah... I can see how they view Riku as some sort of idiot savant.
>>2382369To be fair Riku is a god damn murder machine when allowed to go at full power and isn't always held down by shit like protecting other people or having to deal with friendly fire and shit, like i'm seriously not convinced aizen can solo her if she gets all her shit off because thats how stupidly fucking powerful she is at full power.
>>2382292Some of that gets pretty spoilery pretty quickly, but there are a few highlights that especially the Schit-staffel wouldn't be pleased to see. Riku's entire being has the fingerprints of meddling and engineering if you know where to look, and the missing perspective for the quincy is how much of the 'meddling' comes from different parts of Riku's soul lending their respective strengths to her fights. There's an old story that the daimyo Mōri Motonari, an advisor and strategist to Minamoto no Yoritomo, once handed each of his three grown sons an arrow to break, which they did effortlessly. But when he challenged them to break three arrows bundled together none of them could do it. While that story is most likely just that, the same principle applies to Riku.
>>2383729Isnt that story also famous varient the one told by ghengis khan?
>>2383771Some variation of the parable's at least as old as Aesop. Whether there was cultural diffusion or simply the same idea existing in various places independently is kind of impossible to know.

>>2395217You are Captain Ichimaru Gin; full-time commander of a Division of shinigami, filial son whenever push comes to shove, and notable snake. You’ve seen some strange things in your time, some really strange things. Things that most people wouldn’t believe. But this might just take the cake.Miles-wide swathes of land have simply been swapped across planes of existence, a confusing dance of sorts that few of your peers have even tried to really keep track of. The practical effect is that you can now screw up twice before Karakura town will be in any real danger, which is hopefully a failsafe you won’t be forced to rely on. However, given what you know about that bastard Aizen and his little minions, it may well be a case of ‘every little bit’ helping.“So, we’re finally doin’ this,” you muse almost playfully as the representatives of the Gotei 13 wait in the skies above a fake Karakura town. “Guess it had to happen sooner or later.”“Could you try to sound less jovial about it?” Captain Feng grumbles. “It’s irritating.”“Sorry ‘bout that,” you apologize, without really apologizing at all. “Can’t help it, Auntie Feng. It’s just all so climactic.”“Call me that again and I’ll snap your neck.”“Okay.”Rangiku chuckles quietly to herself in amusement… good. Even if your fellow Captains are way too rigid to ever allow themselves to relax on the eve of battle, at least your silliness has had the desired effect on one person.“How can you be so relaxed at a time like this, Captain?” Hinamori asks you from behind in a small voice… well, even smaller than usual, since she’s hoping she’ll go unheard.“It’s easy,” you admit. “Either we win or we all die… so I plan to just do the best I can. If I live I live, if I die then at least I did my best.”“Cut the chatter,” Head Captain Kyoraku sighs, lowering the brim of his goofy hat. “We’re about to have company.”Sure enough you can soon hear the familiar sound of space and time being ripped open, and you can feel the reiatsu of many powerful fighters eager to join you in the living world for a battle. Baraggan is here along with his entire crew, and Lille’s decided come along… probably because Aizen had them partnered up. Wonderweiss and Gremmy turn up next, probably for the same reasons, followed by Pernida and Nnoitra. Does that mean Salao and Cang Du are dead? Well, knowing it’s Riku and Yoruichi… they’re almost certainly dead. Then come Yammy and Gerard, Askin, and last of all are Aizen and his trained shoulder monkey Amagai.>1/2
>>2395249“Has anyone else realized that Aizen has no women left on his side?” you muse.Bambietta chuckles. “You’re not counting Giselle I see.”“I just said,” you repeat. “No women.”“Okay, when and how?” Bambi demands.“I don’t want to talk about it. Creeps me out.”“Good to see you, Head Captain,” Aizen greets you. “As well as the rest of my former comrades, all gathered here just to meet me. We have a lot of catching up to do. But first, would you mind telling me where the real Karakura town is?”“Captain Shiba?” Kyoraku muses. “Why don’t you offer our reply?”“Bankai!” your other aunt calls out. “Jikanteishi!”With a powerful green glow Shiba Kaoru’s kido takes effect, massively enhanced and supplemented by the many tori gates of her Bankai. Aizen’s mocking smile is left static… you always hated it, and now you’ll be stuck with it for the next forty minutes or so. But you kind of feel like it’s worth it.“Aizen?” Baraggan asks, staring at his overlord. “Has he finally become so arrogant he refuses to acknowledge when someone is speaking to him?”“It would seem he has been frozen in time,” Lille Barro clarifies. “Not that it matters. Between us we have more than adequate strength with or without Aizen.”“He said something about this Karakura town being a fake,” Barragan realizes, snapping his fingers. “These crudely-hidden towers must have something to do with it.”“So you noticed ‘em too?” Askin muses. “Shit, an’ here I was startin’ to wonder if all you arrancar were as blind as Yammy and Grimmjow.”Meanwhile, four large hollows have descended upon the towers, only to be killed all at once.“Oh?” Askin realizes. “Hey, your buddies are all dead. You might wanna do somethin’ about that.”Baraggan nods slowly before barking his orders. “Abirama, Poww, Findorr, Charlotte.”“Yes, my lord!” the four selected fighters shout out in unison before leaping into action… only to be met with the guardians of the towers they’ve been sent to destroy.>Findorr vs Shuhei>Abirama vs Ikakku>Poww vs Yumichika>Charlotte vs ???

I’ll have the honor this time.”“Having to watch the two of you fight is going to make me ill,” Sung-Sun shoots back. “I will fight.”“You’re just trying to suck up to master Halibel!” Mila Rose accuses. “Well I’m not just gonna go along with it! You can hear Apacci commenting in the distance about it just being a regular cero, but a moment later you notice that Charlotte’s appearance has changed.“Reina de Rosas!”The burst of reaitsu subsides, revealing… entirely too much. A white crop top with wing-like shoulder pads, a white crotch… cover… of some sort… and pink fabric cut in a skirt and a short cape. You can’t help but stare at it in disgust for several long seconds as he poses, clearly expecting a response out of you.“Oh god it’s hideous!” you hear Mila Rose shriek.“Kill him kill him kill him kill him kill him!” Apacci agrees. Not your lucky day.”Abirama just laughs at you. “As you can see, Ikakku, it’s over! I have the high ground, so why don’t you come up here and try to say that to me, hm?”You shrug. “Alright.”Taking a deeper stance, you hold Hozikumaru out flat in front of you. “Bankai!”The power releases swiftly this time, pushing Abirama redder higher into the air as his wings catch the pressure wave. “You really want to force me higher like that? What a fool!”Then the guillotine drops. The massive oversized spade that you grasp in both your hands digs deep into his right wing, shearing it off in a spray of blood and a cry of pain.“You bastard!” Abirama roars as he cocks back one wing, still falling with you in tandem as you pull on the chain in your left hand. The long halberd-like blade flies towards your right, and you block the incoming feathers before using the weapon to shear off the arrancar’s other wing.He hits the ground hard, leaving a shallow crater in the top of a building while you crash through a water tower that showers you while you recover your blades. You start to spin them over your head with the long axe head held high, even as Abirama staggers to his feet.“I’ll show you!” he shouts, new wings sprouting from his body as he traces a pattern on his chest in blood. “I’ll show all of you…”Using the momentum you’ve built up and a flash step, you step in close behind Abirama and slice off the new wings in a single fluid movement. The axe blade settles into your right hand.>1/2

He’s already dead.“Seems I’m the first to wrap up,” you realize, returning Hozukimaru to its sealed state. “That arrancar chick’s got strong backup, she should be fine. You are Hisagi Shuhei, Lieutenant of the Fifth Division under Captain Sui Feng, and so far your opponent seems to be an annoying sort of guy. To be more precise he’s the type of guy whose idea of a good fight is to lecture his opponent while slowly increasing his raw power, and you really aren’t appreciating it. In fact, you’ll readily admit it’s starting to piss you off.“Why don’t you just admit you’re screwing with me?” you grumble, parrying Findorr’s strike as he shoots past you. “You say you’re fighting at the level of a Third Seat? Quit wasting my time already!”“No exacta!” Findorr replies with a frown. “You should fight with a more level head, Lieutenant. Otherwise you might get yourself hurt.”You narrow your eyes and shift your weight forward a little. “Thanks for your concern, but I can take care of myself. Just hurry up and show me your full power.”“Well, if you’re sure,” he replies, taking one more fragment of his mask off and allowing his power to surge. “With this I’ve reached the level of a Lieutenant.”Man… no luck again. He still hasn’t released yet, so in the back of your mind you’ve got to keep aware of the fact that any damage you do to him short of fatal he’ll just heal anyway if you then allow him to release. How are you going to deal with this?As you parry a heavy blow, narrowly managing to avoid a sword to your side, you begin to come up with the beginnings of a plan…>Release Kazeshini, force Findorr to release his zanpakuto.>Rely on kido, show Findorr the difference in your skills.>Fight dirty, see if you can’t land a serious wound on him.>Other?

>>2399387For all their prowess with their weapons, and the various abilities granted them by their release states, you’ve never seen any evidence that the arrancar know anything approximating kido. That is, with the exception of Emilou Apacci’s concerted efforts to that end. With roughly equal reiatsu, this battle will be decided by skill.Or at least so you thought. You block a slash of Findorr’s sword, only to take a shallow slash across your shoulder as the arrancar follows through with one of the blades protruding from his wrists. Even as you wince from the pain you kick off of your attacker and trace a triangle in the air with your free hand.“Bakudo 30: Shitotsu Sansen!”Maybe it’s because of the wound in your shoulder, but your movement is slower than it should be and because of that Findorr is able to sidestep the trio of light fangs. They slam into a building in the distance behind him.“Pathetic, Lieutenant!” he taunts, swinging his sword rapidly and filling the air with purple bala that hurtle at you in a seemingly random weave of glowing bullets.“Enkosen!”Your kido shield takes a hit as you struggle to pick out a path through the incoming barrage, and a second hit leaves you staggered from the impact. A third blast crumples your shield, but you have just enough of an opening to advance as the rate of incoming blasts slows.Unfortunately Findorr seems to have followed your shunpo, and merely catches your blade in his hand.“Are you really a Lieutenant?” he questions, kicking you in the ribs and sending you sliding through the air on your reishi footholds. “Definitely, no exacta.”“What was that?”“I asked if you are actually a Lieutenant,” he repeats. “It seems to me that if my level of power right now should be at the level of a Lieutenant, and I’m faster and stronger than you by this much, then one of us has made a mistake.”>1/2
>>2399440He has a point… this isn’t going well at all. His reiatsu may be roughly a match for yours, but his speed and strength are still those of a hollow with that level of power: which is to say, greater than the abilities of a shinigami with the same reiatsu at their disposal.Though you may have fared poorly in that last exchange, you can feel your Captain’s eyes watching you. You know that she’s never fought an arrancar before, and that she’s probably hoping to learn from your battle as much as you’re hoping for the same. She can’t have missed this detail either if you were able to see it, so that objective is cleared. And you’ve managed to drag the fight away towards the river rather than risking damage to the pillar, so that objective is cleared. What remains is to figure out a way to best leverage your experience and formal training as an advantage…>Continue with kido, it would have worked if you’d hit with the last attempt.>Release your zanpakuto. So instead of trying to create some distance to cast a kido, you stretch out your arm and charge a large ball of red reiatsu at the palm of your hand.“Hado 31: Shakkaho!”The blast hurtles towards Findorr, who raises his zanpakuto and begins charging a larger cero at its point. “No es exacta, shinigami! Your silly spells…”But his words are cut short as you use a shunpo, sliding across a reishi cushion to slow yourself and aim a simple slash at the back of his right leg. With a wringing sensation that nearly wrenches your arms out of their sockets you land a deep, clean strike to the arrancar’s Achilles tendon and neatly sever it even despite his iron skin. With a wince he stumbles, and instead of continuing to charge his cero he tries to swing down at you. That’s his mistake: completely forgetting the Shakkaho. The kido blasts him in the side of the head, enveloping his body in steam and fire, but you can tell from his reiatsu that he’s not dead: that iron skin of his is another factor. A shot like that would have put an unreleased Lieutenant’s lights out, but Findorr is still standing… and he’s furious.“You think you’re clever?” he demands angrily. “Maybe you are, and maybe you’re not. But let’s see you outsmart this…”“Engrave the water’s surface… Pinza Aguda!”Findorr is surrounded at once by purple flames like the energy of his cero from before, but this time he emerges from them transformed. The damage he took from your attacks is gone, and now instead of those little knife blades on his wrists he has white porcelain crab claws, the one on his right side being massively oversized and hooked to his right shoulder by some sort of cable or pipe. And by the look on his face, he must think this new technique has made him strong enough to beat you.It certainly makes him faster, as you immediately learn.>3d10, best of three>dc 20, crit 25

The blast overtakes you in mere seconds, and you can hear your opponent laughing as the energy dissipates.“That’s what you get, shinigami!” he laughs. “That’s what you get for…”Your sword clashes against his claw, and he forces you back through the air with a wide sweeping motion.“How did you escape that blast with only minor burns?”‘Minor’ burns your ass. “I used Enkosen at the last possible second. That spell absorbed most of the damage.”“Well then I apologize for underestimating you,” he smirks as he raises his claw. “No es exacta, my mistake. I guess I’ll have to give it a little more effort this time!”A jet of water screams out of his spread claw, streaking past you and slicing off a sizable chunk of building behind you. It must be highly pressurized in order to cut like that… not something you wanna get hit by if you can avoid it.“Nice dodge, but can you keep it up!?”He can fire more of those things? A near infinite stream of them from the look of it… the reiatsu must be condensed and fed through that cable where it’s mixed with water in the air and pressurized, which means he can probably keep this attack up a lot longer than that stream of bala before.Hey… is he…You realize too late that the arrancar is using the reiatsu-laden blasts of water to surround you, and quickly it seems like you’re surrounded on all sides by an slowly-constricting mass of violently-swirling water.Well, now’s as good a chance as any.“Reap, Kazeshini.”>3d10, best of three

This time it’s him that’s forced back as he raises his arm to parry, and you pull on the chain connected to your first scythe while he’s focused on you. At the last second his eyes widen and he uses sonido to escape, just a split second before you would have slashed the feed tube for his oversized claw. You keep the scythes in both your hands spinning rapidly for a second before hurling one at your opponent again and forcing him to backpedal until your weapon comes up short. Your next throw pushes him even further back, a confident grin on his face as he thinks he’s got your attack figured out… and then he slams ass-first into an office building.“Sokatsui!” you shout, firing off a hado and demolishing part of the building, watching Findorr dash straight upwards to get clear.“What’s wrong, arrancar?” you ask, your blades still spinning. “You can’t quite predict their movements, can you?”“Shut up!” he roars, firing off several more blasts which you intercept with a sweep of one spinning scythe before throwing the second at him from the side.He dodges it easily, but before he can counterattack you pull on the chains and draw the blades back towards him from both sides. Though he manages to barely escape, you nearly take his arm off before he can crash down to the nearest rooftop.“Hyapporankan!”Findorr manages to use his sonido to escape your bakudo as well, but he’s hard pressed now. His clear advantage has disappeared in an instant, and he’s obviously getting frustrated. You stare him down, spinning your scythes with a faint whistling sound.“Scared?”He glares at you hatefully, his features distorted. “Of an insect like you? >>2399953Your shunpo lets you get around the large man, easily evading his slow, sweeping attacks. Eventually you manage to get in the blind side behind his dominant arm, and you swing your zanpakuto at the tendons of his elbow. Unfortunately the edge stops against the barrier of his skin.“Too bad,” he muses in a deep tone as he backhands you through a small house. “Cero.”The blast destroys an entire block of homes, but you at least managed to avoid…“There you are.”He can use sonido with that body of his? You realize the fact as the heavy blade clashes against your sword, most of the force sliding against its edge but enough transferring to you that you’re crushed into the street below. Sparks fly as you take out a streetlight along the way, and you barely manage to keep evading Poww’s blade for the next few swings.Things stay like this for what feels like hours, your shunpo barely keeping you a step ahead of the arrancar. Eventually you get enough room to release your sword. But you can be seen here… your reiatsu can be felt. If you show the others that your zanpakuto is really a kido type…“Bloom, Ruri’iro Kujaku!”>Attack using your speed, try to sever the arrancar’s arm.>Use Daichi Tenyo as a distraction, slash him in the back.>Use another kido to increase damage… Okasen might work.>Other?

>>2400072You decide to take the initiative, reaching out a hand and casting Daichi Tenyo. The chunks of upturned earth and stone are enough to distract the giant arrancar even if they’re not doing that much damage to him, and they look like they might even sting a bit. But that’s not the real attack.Using the chunks as cover you dart around to get behind Poww, then sink your multi-pointed blade deep into the meat of his shoulder. With a hiss of pain Poww turns and smashes his elbow into you, sending you crashing into a wall.“That actually hurt,” he grumbles angrily. “You are going to pay for that.”>3d10, dc 20, no crit

>>2400102The cero comes quickly, but you manage to evade it. Unfortunately the pillar behind you isn’t so quick on its feet, and a large chunk is blasted out of it. So while you’re alive, that only serves as a reminder: your survival isn’t what’s important here.“That was a little too close for comfort,” a feminine voice muses. Both you and Poww turn to face the newcomer, one of the arrancar who fight for Captain Kusajishi. It’s the one with the dark hair and the horn on her forehead… you think her name was Apacci.“I have this under control,” you insist grimly, and the arrancar simply laughs.“If this is what ‘under control’ looks like I must’ve been doing it wrong this whole time,” she shoots back. “Cause to me it looks like you’re getting your ass kicked.”“I’m… having some difficulty,” you admit.Apacci snorts derisively. “You’re a bloody mess with one good arm, and the pillar you’re supposed to protect isn’t looking too good either.”“Nevertheless this is my fight,” you insist. “Don’t interfere.”“It’s not your fight,” she reminds you sternly. “When this guy kills you because you’re too much of a stubborn idiot to use your true power I’m gonna have to clean up your mess anyway. So you might as well just let me do it now instead of later.”“Who are you…” Poww begins.Apacci glares sharply at him. “Shut up, tons o’ fun. I’m not done talking yet.”“You seriously expect me to give up this fight?” you ask incredulously. “To back down in the face of my duty?”“The way I learned it this ain’t your duty,” Apacci counters. “So either use whatever it is you’ve been hiding from the others like a good boy, or let someone whose priorities are straight handle it.”“You think a little girl…”“I said shut your goddamn mouth, landwhale,” Apacci snaps. “I’m. Talking.”>Fine, I’ll use it. But just so you know, I’m compromising on my entire way of life and forfeiting all my personal relationships for this. I might as well have been killed.>Fine, you do it. I acknowledge that I can’t beat this enemy as I am now, within the limits I’ve set for myself. But I won’t throw everything else away just to win this one fight.>I would rather die here on my own terms than accept either of yours. Get out of my way.

>>2400215You are Apacci Emilou, and you can literally see the moment Ayesagawa decides you can burn in hell for all he cares.“Fine, I’ll use it,” he declares, a vicious glint in his eyes. “But never forget that even if I survive I might as well be dead… my Division will never accept me after this. My life will be forfeit.”“But… you’re right. I’ll have done my duty. I think I can live with that, at least as long as I have to.”> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNTwpYg3JkcYou’ve heard enough. “El Alcaudon.”With a strangled gasp of shock Ayesagawa realizes you’ve just impaled him with what looks like a solid spear of cero, like a shrike pinning its victim to a tree. He strains against it, trying to move but finding himself pinned in place.“Relax, numbskull,” you sigh. “You’re not dying from that. It’s basically what you’d call bakudo.”“But why…”“It’s better this way for everyone, right?” you point out. “You can say you were gonna, no one sees your shame, and the pillar gets defended.”“So, this little girl will fight me?” the giant muses, cocking his arm back. “Very well.”The massive fist collides with your hand and stops cold, and though the force of the blow shatters the concrete all around your feet you stand unbowed against it. You can feel the muscles of your arm and his straining against each other for a moment, but it’s clear whose strength is greater.“What in the world…” the giant begins, as you shift your stance and slide under his wrist to grab him by the sleeve.“Haaaaaaahh…” your voice builds to a roar as you physically lift the giant by his arm and throw him over your head. He crashes down several meters away in a pall of dust, and is back on his feet almost the moment he’s finished rolling. He seems even MORE stunned now than he did when you stopped his punch. “Why you… let’s see you do that again, insect!”“Breathe, Calderon!”One by one his limbs begin to swell like he’s a fleshy balloon animal, and his reiatsu skyrockets. Not nearly enough to truly challenge you, but if his physical strength is increasing proportionally you might actually be at something of a disadvantage. When he’s finished transforming, he bellows a challenge.“In the name of Lord Baraggan, you must die!”“El Escudo.”>1/2
>>2400302“What…”“Hey, what’s up!” you call out as you direct the blast from your Escudo upward into the onrushing fist. The force of the blast not only pushes the now even LARGER arrancar away, it even knocks him onto his now-enormous ass with a resounding crash.“I thought you were gonna punch me?”“You miserable insect!” he bellows, charging a cero in his mouth. It’s almost like watching a Gillian now, only his reiatsu is actually kind of impressive rather than pathetic. You hold your sword out in front of you, focusing your energy for what you know will come next. “Impale, Cierva!”You can feel your body swiftly transform, and you unleash two powerful ceros as you leap forward with all the strength your legs can muster. The reishi hardens and forms in your hands, your will hones them into blades. And as Poww’s cero meets yours, you simply slice through it.The loose energy demolishes two large sections of city behind you, but critically misses the pillar.Poww’s eyes widen as he realizes you’ve just scythed your way through what’s probably his strongest attack.“Cero!” you shout, slashing both your weapons at the level of Poww’s eyes. The blasts slice deep into his head, before dissipating far in the distance. Even one of the Sternritters, a man with a loose lock of hair dangling in front of his face like a lure, has to comically sidestep to avoid part of the blast as it loses cohesion.Ayesagawa quickly moves to join you, now free of your ‘spell’ since there’s no further need to keep him pinned.“You… killed him so easily,” he comments, watching Poww’s body fall. Your eyes, however, are firmly fixed on the one who sent him here to die: Baraggan Louisenbarn, seated in midair on a throne of bone in the very image of a pompous, self-described ‘king’ of the Hollow realm.“That was only the warm-up round,” you insist quietly. “Baraggan won’t take this sitting down.”“But where will they strike next…”
>>2400348And that's a wrap for this weekend! Thanks for stopping in, hope you had a good time, and see you all next weekend.I'll update on twitter before the week is over, but my computer is STILL in the shop and probably will be until Tuesday. I was able to scrape together an approximation of my notes for this part of the Karakura 'arc', but depending on whether I have my shit back in order by the weekend I may consider postponing. So basically, keep an eye on twitter.
