>The IntroHey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.Mostly.>The RulesI will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him. Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything. The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.>The DiceWe will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.>The Pastebinhttps://pastebin.com/hUhuBkxcHere's where the info on mechanics are, along with a chart of your current social links.>The Twitterhttps://twitter.com/SleepyQMFollow me here for updates on runtimes and whatnot.>The Archiveshttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=SleepyQMHere's the collection of past threads. >>2364361Time for hero!
>>2364361You wonder if you'll ever not be amazed by what your life has become. When Donna's aircraft takes off you barely even feel it. The smallest jerk beneath your feet and that's it. The thing doesn't have much in the way of windows but that's about the only negative you could attribute to it. And you hesitate to even call it that, as Donna claims it's intended use is exploration, surveillance, and quick bursts of combat. She assured you that it never saw much use before she started piloting it. You suit up in the back of the ship, which is clearly a living area with multiple bunks. For the time being, you leave your mask down and goggles on your forehead. It'd feel just a little awkward hiding your face like that when flying in a vessel just with your friends. An invisible one, no less. When you emerge you plop down in one of the several seats next to Blondie, who is also going maskless for the time being. She's currently taking stock of her arrows and doing some work on her hand crossbow. Seeing her at work reminds you to check on your grapnel, it's become a pretty vital tool for you. Slipping out the small compact tool set in your belt you get to work. "So, Gorilla Grodd. Ollie talked about him a few times. Says he's got a mean streak a mile wide and a hatred for humankind. Somehow, the fact that he's hyper-intelligent and psychic was an after thought.""Heh. I only saw him the once on tv. Flash was giving him a beating. Course' all I could see was a red blur and an armored Gorilla getting tossed around but I put two and two together." You test the internal motor for the grapnel after disconnecting the cord. It spins and whirs. Nice and smooth. you resist the urge to point it, like people tend to do in movies. Even Donna'll get mad if you ding up her invisible plane-thing.Robin pats you on the shoulder as he passes, the only one here still wearing his mask. Not that Donna or Kaldur need one. "If that's all you know about him, let's get this briefing underway. Knowledge is power and all that jazz. Donna?"Your pilot takes a moment to press a button on her wide console and a screen lowers itself from the roof in front of all the passenger seats. Robin inputs a few things on his gauntlets and an image of the roaring primate himself appears on screen. "We're undoubtedly going into combat with at least his gorilla soldiers, so here's what we know."He clicks again, to what appears to be the sort of blurry view of a street camera. One minute, it's a normal city street. Cars pass by in an orderly manner. Suddenly. A flash of light. Lightning. And suddenly there's several gorillas and Flash standing in the middle of the road. They fight for a bit, then move off camera. "According to the Flash, Grodd is the leader of a large community of intelligent Gorillas that come from a timespace side by side with ours. He reached it through his abilities, and unfortunately, Grodd used that to come here. But even worse.">Continued
>>2364369Another click, the screen then displays what appears to be an aerial shot of a jungle. He cycles through it, the pictures progressive forward until you get a clear view of some sort of city. It's got a strange mix of new and old. Covered in foliage but they've got tech that you've only really seen in the Batcave or used by H.I.V.E. "Grodd manipulated The Flash into bringing Gorilla City back with him. The pictures were only able to be taken thanks to Batman's stealth flier."The images change once more and you get to see an image of the gorilla looking a little worse for wear, with a hulking collar around his neck. "Now about great primate himself. Grodd is very intelligent, and very malicious. He has a deep hatred for humans so anything he does can be considered dangerous for the wider world. He's got the physical capabilities of a healthy full grown gorilla with the intelligence to use weapons and tactics so you know why that's bad. He's also a major telepathic, and telekinetic. Only engage him directly if you have to."Robin clicks some more on his gauntlet, and the images change to a view of Central City's map. "Now for our mission's parameters. It's clear to everyone here that we've kind of gone off script here. Batman and Flash have gone to Gorilla City first to chase the signal Flash detected, and the only reason they didn't notice our directly disobeying orders is thanks to the emergency of the situation, and Batgirl running interference for us. Gotta make it up to her later."The image zooms in and shows deeper layers of the cities infrastructure. Going down to sewer and maintenance tunnels. "The other end of the signal is coming from Central City, Flash couldn't locate the source, but I'm willing to bet that we'll find answers if we go deep. But Grodd isn't stupid, he's bound to know that turning on whatever he's built would reveal his location. So expect heavy resistance, gorillas armed with sophisticated weaponry. Any questions?">"Yeah, any idea what he's actually trying to do? I'll take an educated guess at this point.">"What do we do if Bats and Flash show up?">"Yep, how do you keep saying Gorilla City with a straight face?">"Just wanna know what our battle-plans are.">Write-In?

I'll take an educated guess at this point since we've been in the dark for months." Robin just looks at KF whose standing to the side with his mask down. You just remembered he called him Wally back at the cave. "Well that's the scary part. Flash has been tracking the parts he's been stealing and buying for a while now, along with a huge cocktail of chemicals. I got a quick look at his notes and well, we think he's trying to recreate the accident that gave Flash his powers, and mine too."The whole ship goes silent, even Roy just lowers his hat, nothing to say on the subject. The reality of someone like Grodd with Flash's abilities is cold and harsh. "C'mon guys shake it off, we're here so he'll never get that far. Right?""Exactly." Robin says, with enough confidence that you might even believe in what you just said."And one more thing, what're we s'posed to do if Bats and Flash show up? Proceed as planned?"He nods. "Proceed as planned. We're already directly going against orders. Besides..." He smirks. " What are they gonna do? Ground us in the middle of a firefight? If Grodd is doing what we think he's doing, he needs to go down today."There's a round of agreement from everyone on the vessel and the mood changes. Before you could say it was almost casual, friends on a ride together. But now you're prepping for battle. You kinda like it. Is that bad?In only about an hour you're above Central City, this thing is impressive in just about every way. You never thought about it before but you kinda wanna see what Paradise Islands looks like. You hang in the sky, invisible, while Robin preps the fully suited team one last time. "The signal we've been tracking just duplicated, one high, and one low like we anticipated. So we're splitting into two teams." He looks to you. "Ghost, I want you to lead one of the teams, pick where you're going and who's coming with you.">"High. We'll tackle the mystery signal.">"Low. We'll handle Grodd.">Wondergirl>Speedy>Aqualad>Artemis>Kid FlashChoose two or three teamates. Taking two means it's easier to keep a low profile if that's what you want. >>2364533"For real? Alright, if you think I'm up for it." You take another look at the map specs sent to you on your goggle's hud. "I'll take low, we'll handle Grodd. And I'll take... KF and Artemis."Robin just nods and Wondergirl lowers the vessel all the way down to street level and a central hatch opens up in the floor, lined up perfectly over a sewer grate. And Blondie is the first to go down, then KF, then you. "Keep us updated over comms, and don't hesitate to call for backup. We're still a team." You flash him a thumbs up and Robin closes the hatch behind you after you drop. And as soon as you take a breath you're thankful for your suit's design. You're in the sewers of course, and it smells exactly like you think it would. Worse even. You're unaffected while KF is just trying to keep his lunch down. You look at Artemis and she's got a makeshift mask over her mouth. She shrugs at you, pointing ahead. Yeah, let's get crackin'.Bringing up your hud, you follow a waypoint made on your map by tracing the signal. It mostly just goes down, down down below. Every time you pass another ladder your map says to climb down. You weren't even aware the city infrastructure went this deep. Eventually, you reach a dead end. even with Kid Flash's scouting you can't seem to find a way around it. But the signal goes deeper.KF runs the length of the tunnel again and again but he can't find it. "This can't be it, the crafty monkey must be hiding the entryway.">Roll 1d100I was going to write for taking Wondergirl as well as Artemis and KF but it seems we're slightly more in favor of just taking the speedster and the archer.

Why didn't I think of this five minutes ago?"Before you can ask what the hell he's come up with he zips back down the tunnel, and comes zooming back down it at full speed. "KF! What the fu-" And he disappears through the wall. Just runs through it like it wasn't even there. You and Blondie just look at each other, unsure of how to even handle that but before you have a chance to worry, KF comes back through. "Hey guys! I brought the party with me!" Of course, his idea of a party means three gorillas toting advanced gear come through the wall like he just did, and right after, the wall flickers and disappears. Of course! It was never there in the first place.Blondie shakes her head in disbelief with she takes a knee and readies two trick arrows. Maybe you made a mistake.Kid Flash takes off while Artemis fires her first two shots, one roots a gorilla to the floor by erupting some adhesive foam between his big ol' paw and the cement. The other one misses and the lead gorilla leaps up and swings on an overhead pipe. He fires his strange weapon and what follows makes you glad for the sound dampeners in your goggles headset. It fires some sort of pulse that ripples through the air and nails KF. He gets taken off of his feet immediately, sprawling on the floor. The lightning that usually flies off of his body disappears and he goes still on the ground. No, dammit this is going down the fucking toilet already. You sidestep easily and harden your limbs, shoving an uppercut into the ape's big belly. And boy, is it an odd experience punching a full grown gorilla. Your hardened fist pounds against the wall of muscles that is his abdomen and you turn into smoke before he can swing one of his big ass arms through your head.Reforming on his side, his kick his spear to the side and throw a one-two combo into his face. Artemis shoots off several broadhead arrows but she doesn't find any luck either. When another blast of cold comes at you, you disperse on instinct, avoiding the ice. But Artemis isn't quick enough. She gets pinned to the wall by ice, leaving you own your own. And it's only after both of your teammates are down does the monkey reveal himself. The air in front of you shimmers, just like the wall hologram from before. And when it clears you see the same Grodd you saw on his little throne. Except this one is the real deal. And there's someone beside him, looks like a girl but she's as pale as a dead person. Blueish white. She looks at you with empty eyes. You float above the ground, half dispersed, your grapnel leveled at them. "You're gonna pay for that, monkey.""I hardly think you're capable of that, human." He retorts, snorting as he turns and climbs the mountain of machinery with ease. "You weren't intelligent enough to see past a mere hologram, just as anticipated. Killer Frost, take care of him, he shall bear witness to my acceptance of the Light. And I shall feast upon their brains, no matter what little knowledge they contain."Wordlessly, the woman named Frost holds up a hand and the temperature in the room drops. >>2365490Killer Frost take a single step toward you, the ground beneath her freezes over, encasing her boots in brittle ice. Her eyes are just as cold as she is. You can plainly see ice crystals form in the air around her outstretched hand. "You're lucky I'm not deciding how we deal with you, you'd be dead already."Yeah, nope. Nuh uh. You fire your grapnel up as soon as she fires a blast of cold at you, escaping the attack by kicking of the wall and swinging on an exposed pipe. You're not dealing with her alone, she's packing serious heat. Or uh, damn. That doesn't work out the way it should huh? Good thing you're not saying any of this shit out loud like KF.Landing, you disperse and go ground level, snaking around the bulky equipment in the room while Killer Frost tosses barrages of ice shards, tearing the room up looking for you. You reform and break into a run, shooting your grapnel and flying across the room, hardening your legs and stomping on the ice encasing KF's lower half. Once the crack form, he's starts vibrating weakly and shatters the thing, standing up in short order."Keep her busy while I get Artemis!" "Can do!" He zips off and Killer Frost suddenly becomes too busy with the annoying blur to freeze you. Running up, you harden your arms and slam them against the ice a couple times to crack it open. Artemis is freezing, even through her jacket but she readies her bow and soldiers on. Grodd's roar from the center of the room demands everyone's attention. He steps off his throne, clearly angry. "Human, Metahuman, doesn't make you any less useless does it? If you insist on being nuisances then I'll take care of you myself." He presses a button on his bandoleer and the floor rumbles. The pipes whine and the ceiling begins to crumble. Giant metal slats appear, unfolding from the ground, encircling the whole room. Soon you're close off and everyone in the room jerks. You can feel it in your feet, you're rising?! You feel every level of underground infrastructure slam against the dome and all except for Grodd struggle to maintain their balance in the rapid rise. When it stops, the dome recedes and you see you're in some kind of... hotel lobby? The people left inside are reasonably shocked, there's screaming and cries for help all around you, and you can see the storm Robin mentioned going on outside. It's raging by now. Lighting flashing again and again. His machine rumbles like the lightning you can hear outside. It's starting up, and you have no clear idea what's gonna happen when it finishes. The ape roars again, louder than before, and you can feel it in your head! You've felt this sensation before but M'gann was gentle, friendly. It's like he's screaming inside your skull! Not even Killer Frost is spared. Reaching over his shoulder, he produces a rifle similar to the one used against KF earlier. "Since you insist on struggling against the destiny of your species, I'll have to exterminate you now!">What are your orders?

I need you hit him and Frost with anything distracting and hopefully you can keep me alive long enough to punch the monkey's lights out." Hardening your limbs, you drop into a defensive stance, preparing for the worst."Hmph, what have I been doing all day then until now then?" She nocks two new trick arrows. "If not keeping us alive?""Ehh, semantics." You reach up to your googles and hail Robin. Surprisingly, he picks up immediately. "Robin? We could use just a little backup here."Frost get's tired of waiting and throws icicles at you, you disperse and they pass through you, shattering on the ruined carpeted floor. "Still busy, we felt a big shake earlier. What's going on down there?"Artemis lets her arrows fly, and they split in direction, in heading Grodd and the other sticking Frost in the chest. They both let out a high pitched whine that nearly penetrates your ear protection. "Grodds machine took us on an elevator ride and now we're in some hotel." While Frost is distracted you make a beeline for Grodd. Using your grapnel to avoid his weapons blasts."Wait, the Brighton Hotel?" You can still hear the sounds of battle on the other end.You take a moment to spy one of the many emblems all over the place and confirm Robin's suspicions. "How'd you know?" Then you immediately roll over the counter of the front desk to take cover from Frost after she ripped the arrow off of her and sent a huge wave of ice rolling toward you, the counter freezes over and you feel the chill through your padded suit. "We're right on top of you, on the roof of the building. Grodd is working with a maniac by the name Ultra Humanite. Some brand of big bad ape, really, superiority complex. Big head." Artemis once again fires an arrow straight into the barrel of the gun Grodd's holding. But instead of exploding, it starts to expand, frost forming on it's exterior. Grodd smartly tosses the thing in the air as it pops, sending frozen shards all over the place.>Continued

This'll be over in a snap, and you'll be back in a zoo with the rest of your 'people'" You make sure to use air quotes. And you think he gets the message. Welcome back, faithful listeners. The last time we left our vigilante hero, he was waste deep in his battle against the rumble from the jungle... Gorilla Grodd!""What- what is this? How-" Lights on, the crowd cheers. Grodd finds himself not in the hotel lobby. But in one corner of a well worn boxing ring. Oversized trunks around his waist, and basketball sized gloves on his hands. He blinks again and again, but he can't get the see of black and white out of his vision. There's nothing wrong with how he's seeing it, that's the color of this world."Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we have a very special exhibition match for you! In this corner, weighing in at 172 pounds, it's the untouchable brawler. The shrouded phantom, the vigilante of the people! Graaaaay Ghoooooooooost!" The crowd loses it, barely uncontained excitement washes over the ring in wave after wave. You stand and take it all in, feeling like you could take on the whole goddamn world."And tonight, he's fighting on our behalf, against Gorilla "Maneater" Grodd himself!" At the mention of his name, the crowd shifts into harsh booing, thrown popcorn and the occasional soda cup bounce harmlessly off the ape's head."You know what's at stake ladies and gentleman, if the Meaneater wins, he get's to take the priceless Golden Banana Mask! An ancient artifact valued at over one million dollars!" A spotlight claps on and a woman in a slinky green dress that looks far too much like Artemis for you to be comfortable shows it off to the crowd in all of it's foreign glory."But if our champion wins... this monkey goes back to the jungle empty handed! So gentlemen and not-so-gentleape. Please, enter the center of the ring. You and Grodd meet in the center, a dumbfounded look on his face. Your sleek grey robe slides off of you as you approach, a coach with a striking resemblance to Ted gives you a thumbs up. "What's the mater Grodd? You're in my head, like you wanted. He tries to recover from the attack but his swings are sloppy, and he's got not firearms to hide behind. He's in your world, literally.Left jab, right jab, hook, uppercut. Duck! Uppercut! Every one of your moves flies harder and faster than you dare to dream in reality. But in here, you could give Superman a run for his money! Grodd, stumbles around the ring. Beaten to a pulp. "Alright monkey trouble, I believe you said something about being born great. Well, I learned my greatness, from people who are more than you could ever be!"A single step, turning your whole body you feel each and every muscle in your arm, in your chest, the rotation of you spine as you drive your fist into his face, the five hundred pound monster is lifted off the ground for just a moment. And when he falls, it's hard. As soon as his body hits the mat the crowd loses it, and the ref is already in the ring, counting him out. You look up, seeing the ill defined faces of the crowd doesn't do anything to slow your heart rate.Ted, or not really Ted, raises your arm in victory. And as the spotlight washes over you, you see reality as it is again. You're standing over Grodd, just as beaten down but for real. The knuckles on your gloves are shredded. And your breathing is ragged, you're caked in sweat, but you won."Holy crap! That was amazing!" KF zooms to your side. Supporting you. "What did you do to him? It was like he couldn't even fight back!""Gave him a taste of his own medicine, I think." You look over your shoulder when you hear fighting and see Artemis taking cover behind a flipped desk from Killer Frost's attacks. While Grodd is down for the count she's only gotten more intense."Damn you! I need that dirty ape alive and not in prison, if I have to keep living like this I'm gonna take it out of your hides!" The ice erratically spread from her feet and KF tries to get you out of the way, but he leaves himself open as he does. His foot get's encased in ice and you end up supporting him as well. And of course, now the machine is nearing critical mass. It whirs and shakes, lightning starts to arc off of it. You have no idea what it'll do without Grodd to control it. You've gotta shut it down!>What action do you take?Sorry about the long post, wanted to respect that 100. Next post will be the last of the night.

KF runs, while carrying you off the ground, you make this easier by partially dispersing. Man, you'd be a liar if you said moving like that didn't make your stomach churn. You stop in front of the machine, you can feel your spine tingling at the energy radiating off of the damn thing. "Yo, snowcap! I just punched out a gorilla, what makes you think you'll fare any better?"She unleashes the largest wave of ice you've seen yet, crushing desk and tear the floor as it goes. Oh. That's what. You shoot your grapnel upwards and latch onto the chandelier, escaping the rolling wave with some distance to spare. But the gaint machine is halfway covered. It begins to sputter, still shooting out lightning but clearly not functioning the way it's supposed to be. You swing and land a ways away from it but the thing is hooting off lightning like one of those novelty plasma balls. Except the streams of energy are very much destructive and are tearing this lobby a new one. You're trying to make it back to Artemis, and that's when you see it. A blur, barely noticable. You only see it when flash makes runs with you but it's there, it's following you.And it's getting closer. This slowed perspective lets you see whats coming, just as you're sure KF must see it. A steam of lightning is coming at you faster than you can get out the way, at least not both of you. In a split decision. You shove KF away from you, and his shocked expression is all you see before your vision is overwhelmed by golden light. You feel something, you feel like you're moving but also completely still. You can see so much but also so little. And when you finally stop. You know you're not in Kansas anymore.

And from the Workbench, you'll put that science background to use and make new things for your belt. You'll unlock these new uses of your powers with Metapoints, something pretty much stolen from HMQ. For those of you that played that you know what I mean. As for the gadgets I'm not sure a point system is appropriate. Let me know what you think. Lightning. It's the last thing you remember seeing. You feel like you've been running. You're out of breath and drenched in sweat under your suit. One look up reveals you're no longer in the Brighton Hotel. But you're on the street. But it's just not right. The lights, the skyline, it's all wrong. And now that you look again, how is there no traffic? It should be late afternoon, people should be driving home from work right about now. No, it's dark and the full moon is out.You raise your grapnel, looking for an edge or other suitable surface for it to latch on but the smooth and monolithic nature of the buildings towering above you makes it hard to find any spots. Eventually, you make your way up, and up, and up. Your goggles inform you of the great heights you're sitting at, but that's the least of your concerns right now.The skyline ain't just wrong, it's all wrong. It's not that this isn't Central City, this ain't anywhere you know. Where the hell are you? Light, harsh light. You turn to face the source and see a flying vehicle of all things floating twenty or so feet from you. Over two hundred feet up. The spinning and flashing red and blue lights and white shading of the vehicle scream would scream police enough but the logo on the side does the job.A professional sounding voice comes over the "Attention citizen, you will remove yourself from the ledge or we will be forced to remove you ourselves. Please comply." Wherever the hell you are, you know that turning yourself in is still only gonna cause you problems. You turn on your heels and make a beeline for the closed balcony doors you were crouched in front of. The police in the flying car yell after you but you've already dispersed and flown into the space between the door. Reforming on the other side, you float into what looks like some kinda apartment. The Justice League will bring the New Human Army down. But for now, be with the ones that are still with us. Enjoy the new year. Enjoy the coming of 2049. It'll only come once." The man flashes a winning smile, and the newscaster starts to go on about some kind of sports event. But you're focused on the last thing he said. 2049? And... the things you've seen. >>2368424How? Grodd's machine. No. The dirty ape wasn't building a fucking time machine? Was he? That lightning bolt. The stray one. You and Kid Flash were headed right for it but then- but then. You pushed him out of the way. Damn. And now Barret, you're here. Which is apparently Neo-Gotham. Which is tacky as hell, now that you think about it.Where do you even begin? You feel the urge to plop down on the guys couch but you don't need the company. Speaking of company. You hear boots on the floor, running towards your location. Duh, the police saw you come in here! One quick look reveals your escape route. A vent. A tiny one, only you could squeeze through, but a vent. Sorry guy, you're in for a rude awakening.Finding your way through the buildings ventilation system is no easy task but you eventually find yourself out on the street again. Then it's all too easy to escape the cops notice. Even in over thirty years, Gotham doesn't change that much. It only takes you a second to find a dark alley and a place to hide yourself. The police's spotlights pass over several times before they give up the ghost. Heh.Aw fuck. What have you got to laugh about, look where you are! Ugh. Okay, one step at a time. >>2368442>>2368465>>2368490Alright, so we're starting slow. Scouting it is.
>>2368493>Just miss the vote>It was the option i wanted anywaynot the worst feel
>>2368493You guess first thing is first, you can't exactly go around completely blind. You need information. You don't know what part of the city you're in everything's so different. So you fall back on old instincts. You throw your hood up, hands in your pockets, head low but posture straight. From a distance in the dark you'd look like any other guy out on the streets trying to keep warm on a cold Gotham night. But of course, you stick to dark alleys, which plenty of remain. But as you make your way to a busier part of the city you notice more and more of those flying cars. Seems like there are whole traffic ways fro the things now. In an hour of wandering the only vehicle you've seen on the streets is what seems to be a garbage truck. Soon you're in some kind of entertainment district. On one of the shining spires they call buildings you see in huge pink letters. Amusement Mile. Like that old run down theme park? You hazard a look down the street, staying wary of the huge increase in foot traffic. But the last thing people are paying attention to in this place is the weirdo in the trench-coat around the corner. The mixture of bright multi-color lights reminds you of Vegas, people are laughing, singing, drinking. You even see some people slapping these patches on their arms, getting a jolt and then going slack like all their muscles loosened up at once. Every person that passes you by is having way too godd a time to give a shit about you.Stalking the area doesn't reveal much except for how hard people party in the future. You just walked near a nightclub and you could feel the vibrations from the music like ten feet away. Then opportunity presents itself. You see a man passed out on a nearby bench. You keep your head low, walk up casually and have a seat next to him, arm around his shoulder. So people will have a hard time seeing you reach into his pocket."Alright buddy, you can't tell me we don't have some form of personal device in the future." You fish around in his pockets, wallet, keycard, aha! You find a strange little piece of glass, rectangular in shape. Inside you can see the thinnest micro-circuitry. Touching it does nothing, so neither does shaking it and talking to it. But put grab your new friends hand and run it over the thing and bam, it flashes and projects a small screen. "Now we're talkin'.">Continued
>>2368564"Okay okay, let's see here. Facebook? For real? And uh... an app for the Gotham Gazette? That oughta do 'er." You tap the projected screen, surprised to feel it against your finger. Mom talked about this before, hard-light tech? Being used in civilian devices? We came a long way in thirty odd years. Not much is catching your attention at first, mostly lifestyle bullshit you've gotta flip through. The last thing the owner of this thing was browsing. Something about some supposedly amazing club called the Iceberg Lounge, and another story about... hybridization surgery? In the lifestyle section? You shake your head and move on, scanning through until something, anything catches your attention. And there it is. "Breach in Section C... Justice League saves the day, Batman nowhere to be seen?" It's on the front page. At first it goes out of it's way to pay it's respects to the families of the victims in the attack. Thoughts and prayers, that sort of thing. And then details. In an area of Neo-Gotham called Section-C, there was a 'hull breach' and some dangerous goons called the New Human Army got in. It doesn't offer much on them, just that they're incredibly dangerous. There were only three of them and they killed so many, injured twice as many as they killed. There are some scant photos but all you see are guys dressed in all white just tearing ass through a crowd of people. You see one, holding what looks to be like that guy you on the news earlier. Nightwing. Being choked out by one them. Looks like he made it out okay. The story also makes mention of how this was the first successful breach in years. And makes a point of ribbing Batman pretty hard for not showing. You've wonder. Bruce has gotta be what, pushing 70 at this point? But it is totally like him to keep punching bad guys at night until he keels over from old age. And speak of the devil. Only other thing in here worth reading about is that there's a Wayne benefit fundraiser being thrown. And apparently the 'elusive' Bruce Wayne himself will be attending. Looks like it'll be a big to do.Your reading doesn't turn up anything else interesting or relevant, so you carefully shove the device back in the guys pocket and toss the remainder of his drink in the trash. He's had enough.Just when you're on your way back to the shadows to think over your small amount of new info, you hear something. People talking in hushed voices. They sound afraid. Looking down the way, you spy a group of thugs in tacky suits pushing a couple into an alley. Some things really do never change.>Go and do your job, doesn't matter when you are.>Maybe it's for the best you don't get involved. Time travel and all that shit.
>>2368565>Go and do your job, doesn't matter when you are. This is the future after all, not like we're gonna create any paradoxes here... if paradoxes are even possible to create in the first place, being logical constructs and all

You slip away and disperse once you're hidden by shadows and creep up on the alley you saw the thugs go down. Of course it only takes a second to catch up. You reform on the other end of the alley, too dark to see you. Just how you like it.There's four of the creeps, and all you saw were tacky suits from a distance but they really went all the way. Clown make-up, stupid bells and flowers and such. There's a girl in the crowd. But she looks just as dangerous, wearing bladed heels that click loudly when she walks. These guys are Jokerz? Even the bad in Gotham sticks around huh? You considered yourself lucky that you hadn't encountered these literal clowns before.Joker is bad enough and you have to question the sanity of someone who takes it upon themselves to follow him. And they're still around now? Does this shit ever end? The one in the lead looks like even more of a Joker wannabe than the rest, wearing a slick purple suit. He's clearly got the most money out of the bunch, or at least steals the most. There's a big dumb bruiser to the left, watching the mouth of the alleyway so that they don't get any spectators. The third guy has some sort of glowing knife hovering above the poor guys face and the girl is going through his girlfriends purse. How should you clean up?>Weapons take priority, land on Blade Runner's head.>Stomp the leader, the rest will follow.>Tackle the big lug first, use him against the rest.>Write-In?

>>2368620You disperse and float up to the relatively low roof of the club this alley sits next to and place yourself just so, and take a single step off of it. The knife wielding joker doesn't even look up until it's too late. You slam you arm into him, sending him sprawling against the opposite wall of the alley. His knife flies out of his hands and it's glow recedes once it's on the ground."What in the fu-" Their leader goes down with one punch on the jaw, all too easily. Was probably too used to just callin' shots and another takin' any. Then there's the girl, who surprises you with her lack of trash talk and reaction time. You duck to avoid her kick, her long boot shine in the purple and blue flashing in the alley on and off. She's get's a look at you in the momentary light and raises an eyebrow. Surprised? Gise you an opening. She kicks again, but this time you catch the heel blade, hardening your fist and snapping it.Being put off balance, she down after a single hard cross. So all that leaves is-Someone grabs you from behind, easily lifting you off the ground. They start squeezing hard, and you'd be worried if you weren't... well, you. You disperse into your dark grey cloud and the big lug looks downright baffled. Is it like a rule for the muscle to always been low on braincells? In the light you see his skin is an ugly grey. And you can easily these strange armored plates all over his arm. Like a rhino?Reforming behind him, you think about the best way to take care of him. Ah, of course. "Yo, bozo, behind you."OF course, he whips around, snorting like an angry bull but all he's gonna see are stars. You fire your grapnel into his chest. The dull round headed catapults him into the wall, cracking it slightly. And the big guy is done for the night. The couple is too stunned to move at first but they collect the things taken from them and run off with a "Thank you Batman!"C'mon now, it ain't that dark. "Call the police!" You call after them, you want these guys off the streets and your comms have been offline since you got here. You decide that this alley is as good as any other and take a walk. You've got some new info, but what should you do about it.>Screw it, try and find a way to contact your friends. (specify how)>Go to Bruce's fundraiser. >>2368842>Fundraiser, locate Bruce
Oh yeah. We should also get ready for a earfull it has been fifty years but that doesn't mean we managed to escape Batman/Bruce scolding us because of it.
>>2368866Ultimately, you can't help but see going to Bruce's fundraiser as the best idea for now. You can no doubt get some answers from Bruce. And there's a part of you that'll get a little sick pleasure from seeing him as an old man. You take off into the dark and leave the Amusement Mile behind. Honestly, you thought locating Wayne Tower might be difficult given how everything seems to have been built over or rebuilt. But the monolithic tower that outs a city full of monolithic towers to shame, with a big ass glowing W on it couldn't be more obvious. It takes you a little while to make there though, with patrol cars flying the unfriendly night skies of Gotham you've gotta be extra careful. Wonder if Bruce is as annoyed with this as you are.The front is absolutely packed, there's a constant stream of cars flying into an underground parking complex and what appears the press is just crowding the front doors. Looks like this benefit is a bigger deal than you realized. Well, there's a couple ways you could get in. They all carry a certain risk given when and where you are but hey, this job isn't a cakewalk.>Break in, you'll deal with whatever future tech security they've got.>Steal some clothes and walk in. >>2368921this one would also work. How good is Morgan's Arnold impersonation?
I hope we get to pet Ace and kick Terry's ass.
>>2368935In the end, you decide to err on the side of caution and go for a hiding in plain sight strategy. Dispersing, you float down into the underground parking and start stalking guests from between the cars. Soon enough, you find a man wearing a nice suit.. And he's just about your size. You float just above the ground, staying low. Using a strategy you haven't used since that shit with Solomon Grundy. He came alone, which is perfect since you don't wanna be known as the hero that knocked out a family of four for an outfit. As he straggles behind other guests, you reform, right behind him. He stops short, noticing you standing in his side-view mirror. Goggles covering your eyes and dark grey smoke trailing off of your body. "I need your clothes."He doesn't even get out a yelp before you get him in a tight choke-hold that Dick showed you. Batman doesn't play around. You drag the poor guy back into his car and leave him there. At least when he wakes up naked he can just drive home. His suit is a bit strange but still nice. Seems we've ditched ties in the future. But you've got the equivalent of a tux on so you're lookin' good. Now it's time to act natural. You join the steady line of attendees and act as if you know exactly where you're going by just following them. It's absolutely ridiculous in here. You've never been inside Wayne Tower in your time but it can't live up to it's future version now. There's automatic signs built into the walls directing guests. Armed guards making sure nobody tries anything stupid. You're suddenly glad this event is a fundraiser, no invites necessary. The whole place has security camera coverage for miles and you're pretty sure you saw an automatic defense turret down a closed hallway. Eventually, you find yourself ushered into the main hall with the attendees. It's as grandiose as you expected. Huge tables filled with food and drinks for the guests. Rich people shaking hands as they spend some of their millions on a public works project or two. Looking up on stage you see him. It has to be him. Even pushing seventy, the guy is still built like a goddamn truck. But it's Bruce, white white hair and wrinkles but it's him. He's got a cane, guess that's what decades of beating on criminals gets you. Is that what you have to look forward too? Maybe. Honestly, you kind of just want to run up there but you don't want to surprise him in such a public setting. But it might be the best chance you get right now.>Just get up there and ask him for help, forget the circumstances.>Wait until you can get him alone, a little subtlety might be for the best.>Maybe mingle? >>2369062As much as you wanna run up and see him, you think subtlety would be best here. At least you know that's what the stone faced faced old man up on stage would think. So you might as well keep acting natural! And by that you mean, stuff yourself at the food table. You didn't realize just how hungry you were until the smell hit you. You've been running around for a few hours and you were on mission with the Titans before you wound up here. You lean against the west wall, not too far away from the other guests but not so close that they strike up conversation either. You're able to keep a good and close eye on Bruce from here. Not to mention, you can also easily gorge yourself on these shrimp. They're huge! There's a literal fountain of champagne too. You're tempted, but you can hear mom giving you an ear-full every time you even glance at it.After about an hour, Bruce is approached by a young man. He whispers something to him and he immediately starts escorting him to a door off to your side. Though he wrenches his arm free from the guy quickly too. Here we go. You use the act of putting away your dirty plate to get closer without drawing the eyes of the security this place is crawling with. Guys in monkey suits with advanced rifles. Again, the more things change...They pass by a pair of said security through a hall and you use one of the adjacent halls to disperse and follow them through. You pass over the heads of the security, clinging to the walls and ceiling. After a certain point, they ditch all security and it's just Bruce and the other guy. Now's your chance. Dropping down, you reform and go for your grab from behind. You get your arms around his neck and you're expecting to just squeeze until he goes down but instead you receive a swift elbow to your gut, forcing you to let go. Reacting more on instinct than anything else you block an open palm strike that comes from the young guy and respond with a jab which he knocks to the side uses his turning momentum to spin into a kick.Ducking quickly, you jump back up and charge him. Throwing right after left but he keeps up! What the hell?! You end up pressuring him up to the opposite wall and he turns, running up the side and flipping over you while you throw a hardened punch the cracks the wall. You turn back, and he's watching you alert eyes. This guy is for real. You take just a single step towards each other before a sharp sound stops you both in your tracks.>Continued
>>2369157"Are you both done?" He asks, somehow making his gruff tone sound irritated and monotone at the same time. You're both sizing each other up. You haven't been in a fight like this in a while. You're both trained but you're giving off attitudes like you're on the street. "I'm done if he is." He says, crossing his arms. You shove yours in your pockets instinctively. Trying not to show how irritated you are that he didn't go down easy. "Yeah, I'm done. Seems like you recognize me. Eh Bruce?""I would never forget your face. Come on then, I know what you need." And only with that, he starts walking away, slowed by his cane. But not by much."That's it? Do you know this guy or what?" The other guy complains and you have to agree."Yeah Bruce what's with the bodyguard?"He sighs, looking over his shoulder to look at both of you. "Terry, Morgan. The Gray Ghost. Morgan, Terry.
