Previous Thread>>2351106>Archivehttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Arch%20MagnusLast time on Warlord Quest, we took our friends on a hunt for the Griffins that nest atop the highest peaks. On the way there, we encountered a patrol of Lancers who we murdered the absolute balls out of. After arriving at the Roost, We made out like foxes in a henhouse, stealing enough young griffin s and eggs to keep even a French Omellete maker happy. We cut out as Blood-Beak the Terrible, King of the Roost gave us the stinkeye, daring us to return.>Stats and gear incoming.

You sweep your tangled hair back from your face and inhale deeply, the scent of woodsmoke, roasting meats and good strong ale drifting on the wind. You look back at Wren, Falhim and Arvel and grin tiredly, giving the burdened horses a tug on their leads"We're almost home lads. Almost home. Lets just get these feathery fuck home and then we can rest."You goad them forward, each plodding step a struggle."Eh... Those bloody.. Cunts can come get these... Feathery cunts themselves"Arvel grunts, blinking slowly as he staggers forward.Wren steps up, taking Arvel's weight on an arm and helping the exhausted warrior on. "Not used to long runs Arvel? Even Falhim handles it better than you"He laughs, helping the larger man alongArvel snorts, looking back at Falhim and spitting on the ground"M'not a runner. Natural sprinter though... Real dangerous over short distances.."You all chuckle and continue your death march forward, finally passing through the entrance to the crag. The watchers sound their horns, signalling the return of allies and you raise your fist high as greetings and shouts of praise fill the air. The bonfire roars high, an entire Cliff-Jumper speared upon a spit and sizzling deliciously. It seems you werent the only one to go hunting but your quarry is far more impressive than some overgrown goat.Arvel speaks up, his voice thick with exhaustion"I had Torbos an' some o' my lads get together a pen for these buggers. If'n we can get them into the pen and get some collars on em well be golden. The eggs.. Don't know what to do about them..."Wren chuckles, letting Arvel sit down on a rock as a crowd surrounds your horses, nervously inspecting the griffin pups with great interest."All we have to do with the eggs is keep them warm and turn them every few hours. They dont need a lot of care">Drop the catch off at the makeshift beast pen>Address the crowd (what say)>Present your catch to Throth.>Other
Hey QM I was thinking that the griffin youngster we caught first (the big one that had a scar) was bloodbeaks spawn. Did I guess right? Or if the Griffins are like lions and the post where bloodbeak went back to feed "his" pups was literal does that mean blood beak fathers all of the griffin pups by himself (like the alpha male of a group of lions).
>>2364232>Present to Throth>Then drop the catch off at the beastpens
>>2364232>>Present your catch to Throth.troth needs to know about this.
>>2364232>Present your catch to Throth.
>>2364232>>Present your catch to Throth.
>>2364234The scarred youngster is Blood Beak spawn and takes after him immensely. There were several lesser males at the nest but Blood Beak was the alpha and had the most chicks
>>2364249What's the natiest creature that Bloodbeak could take on? what are some of his feats other than maybe murdering entire herds of livestock or fucking over a village who made the mistake of pissing him off.
>>2364250Blood-Beak could easily take on an entire pack of lesser Wyrms, a bull mammoth or a greater Wyrm 1v1. He's massive and strong even compared to other, massivelu strong Griffins.
>>2364252blood-beak vs great bear 1v1 WHO WINS
>Present your catch to ThrothYou call out across the crowd, your voice ringing like a Warhorn"I must speak with Throth! Make way!"The crowd immediately parts, allowing you to make your way through, your companions and the burdened horses following close behind. A young boy dashes off to Throths lair as you remove the bound griffins and eggs, setting the beasts around the cluster of eggs. The crowd gathers around you, a respectful distance away, many standing on tiptoe to get a look at the griffins. Children peek from behind their parents legs or sit atop shoulders, pointing and whispering excitedly."Magnus! What beasts have you brought here? Griffins? A bit stringy and chewy but I appreciate your taste!"Throth calls from above you, making his way down the path, Sheema leaning on his arm and smiling pleasantly."You went to hunt Griffins, with spears... And not only came back alive but brought back their young? By Valls balls boy are you mad? That black terror up on the Roost has killed entire warparties that went to slay him">What say
>>2364255No one. They team up and pull a tag team on the world.
>>2364266(Bear roaring and Eagle screeching intesifies)
>>2364265>A little madness is welcome in mad times. We bring these beasts to honor the Crag Wolves, and our chieftain; soon, they will bring terror and bloody death to our enemies as well. I offer you first choice of the griffins, if you would have any.

>>2364270Mount up and rise up
>>2364276>giving a pet griffin to one of our concubinesI understand that being a warlord mean giving good gifts to your women folk to keep them happy, but I think giving a non combatant the equivalent of a flying apex predator is not appropriate also we should really just claim one for ourself and equally disperse the rest to the warriors able (and willing) to ride one of them.
>>2364285Ysolde would probably dig it tho, she seems the most warlike of ours.man, the Amazon woulda loved that shit.
You laugh, spreading your arms wide, gesturing to your companions and the angrily wriggling griffin pups"A little madness is welcome in these mad times Chieftan! And I had good help! If id been alone id have surely been eaten alive but with my companions here, I escaped with this glorious bounty!"You heft one of the large eggs, presenting it to Throth"I bring these beasts for the glory and benefit of our tribe, the glory of our warriors and in honor to you, Chieftan. If you desire any of these beasts then take it, it is yours"Throth smiles broadly, sharing a look with Sheema, the kind woman patting his arm before whispering in his ear. Throth nods heavily, smiling at you"Well done Magnus! Well done Arvel! Well done Falhim and Wren! If I were a younger man, I would gladly claim one of these beasts and make you my dearest friend but sadly, the days of true glory are behind me. I am too old to train a beast such as this to ride. I will instead watch you do so proudly, naming the rearing and care of these beasts to be of the utmost importance!"The crowd cheers and claps, patting Wren and Falhim on their backs heavily. You bow your head, smiling happily as Throth raises his hand for silence."I charge Hemmik, master of the forge and Dolf Stone-Shaper to create a true home for these beasts! A roost to call our own!"The crowd cheers and shouts again as Throth finishes, extending his hand to you for your turn to speak. You raise your fist to Throth, turning to speak to the crowd."In ages past, great beasts of war were the backbone of our strength! Soon, we will not only be the wolves of the Crag, but the Wolves of the Sky!">Take the beasts and eggs to the makeshift pen>Gift eggs and griffin pups>Other

>>2364297>Ask Arvel, Wren and Falhim if they want their own griffs>Take the beasts and eggs to the makeshift penOut of the four I imagine that Arvel and Falhim will take one of the two they caught together and we can take the big one that looks like ol bloodbeak and the hawkish one can go to Wren (which would be fitting wren seems like a hawkish guy)
>>2364308yeah this is a good spread i imagine
>>2364297>>Ask Arvel, Wren and Falhim if they want their own griffs>>Take the beasts and eggs to the makeshift pen
>See if Arvek, Wren and Falhim want a griffin. You turn to your companions, Arvel being nudged awake by Wren and standing with a slight wobble."As you went with me to catch the buggers, you'll have your pick of the beasts"Your companions share a look before shaking their heads at you collectively. Wren gestures at the beasts and nods to you"You led us there Magnus. Did most of the work yourself. You pick first.">Claim the Scarred Pup>Claim the Crested Pup>Claim the Hawkish Pup>Claim the White Pup.

>>2364331>Claim the Scarred PupHe's as ugly as us anyway.
>>2364331>>Claim the Scarred Pup
>>2364331>Claim the Scarred Pup>>2364334Yup when the time comes and this pup is the size of a 4x4 the moonies are gonna shit themselves (if we haven't already conquered them by that time).
>Test. Data connection is being a fuck.
>>2364339I think we need to reunite the tribes first and then we can go and strike the moonies.
>>2364359You're right that we really need to start uniting the tribes (especially since the moon lords are alerted to the threat we pose) all I'm saying is that when our birdie is big and buff they better watch out.
You grip the scarred, dark plumaged pup by the leather strap running between its wings. Its claws clench as it glares at you balefully, unhappy chirps issuing from its beak. The faint crimson tint to its eyes and the vicious, bone deep scar along its head tell you all you need to know about its heritage"Ill take this one here. It's almost as ugly as me!".you laugh, slinging the fuming griffin over your shoulder. Arvel steps forward, squinting carefully and muttering to himself"Ill take this big'n 'ere. He's got a bit'o fight to 'im"He grunts, crouching to pick up the bulky beats.Wren steps forward, inspecting the beasts, pulling their feathers straight and peering into their eyes. He settles on the hawk-like one, its bright eyes and calm but fierce nature intriguing him"Ill take this one. Looks like its got some natural speed. A good hunter."He states calmly, stroking the feathers of its throat carefully.Falhim steps up last, looking at the big white pup. Its black eyes bore into his as it does its best to clack its beak unhappily"Im guessing the mean snowbirds is mine? Just my luck!"He laughs as a pair of men step forward to assist him and Wren with the weighty pups. The makeshift pen is a deep hollow in the side of the crag, easily wide enough for several dozen men to sleep under with plenty of room. Its only drawback is the deep drop on three sides of the hollow and a constant breeze that would chill a man to the bone. Pegs of iron and bronze are driven into the walls with long chains affixed to them, set far apart enough that the pups cant tangle them on each other. Thick leather and iron collars are attached to the chains and you quickly affix them to the pups necks, securing them before pulling them taught" slicing their bonds with a dagger and stepping out of their reach. The pups immediately burst into motion, leaping to and fro, batting their wings and claws, screeching like demons as they do their best to pull the anchors from the stone and rip you apart.>Feed the griffin pups>Let them calm down (through hunger)
>>2364354Hey QM on a scale of 1 to 10 how cute are baby griffins when they are in the fluff ball phase?
>>2364367>>Feed the griffin pups
>>2364367Hmmm. On one hand just feeding them while there wilding out doesn't reinforce any positive behavior we want to foster, but an animal thats already afraid gets even more agitated when hungery. Any anons who know anything about animal training?
>>2364367>Let them calm down (through hunger)Only through fire can steel be forged.
>>2364367>Feed the griffin pupsThey will calm down and if we make then hungry they might start eating each other (bird do that some even eating their on eggs.)
>>2364377I know a tad bit. And i like to give you a little of history. More precisely. How the fuck did humans managed to herd pigs.Firtly you find a secure spot were the wild animal feed and let it slowly get used to the place, filling the plain woth food and water and once the pigs started to get used to the place you slowly rause a fance around it and then bang! You get domesticated wild pigs. breed then and slaugther just a couple to feed.So we need to make this pups used with their new home.
>>2364367>>Let them calm down (through hunger)The most important part of beast taming is making it obedient. It eats when you decide it eats, it sleeps when you decide it sleeps, but it's also always important to respect the beast, Especially when it's going to become the size of a stallion.
>>2364389>Feed the griffin pupsI'll go with this option, but I'm not sure if the logic behind pig domestication can be applied to an apex predator seeng how different they are in their ecological roles and behavior, but feeding them and getting them used to their environment is sound reasoning. So good on you anon for sharing.
>>2364377Positive reinforcement is a touchy subject. Because it's quite easy with tamed animals. IE anything domesticated. But it's not so helpful with wild ones though. A bear that's used to being fed by people will have positive reinforcement. It will then go agitated when not fed by people it meets. This is why a lot of zoos have 'do not feed' signs. As positive reinforcement in an animal is hard to train and easy to lose. No one is really sure how wild animals were domesticated as it wasn't documented.
>>2364396Well in case of apex predators, we can use what humans did with digs. They caugth the friendliest and less agressive of the pups and make then breed with each other making it into the dogs we have today. Of course i'm taking out the thousands of years of trainning and socialization as well as selective breeding to make then what they are today but you catch my mean.
>>2364401That's super cute
>>2364411I don't know maybe we can use some nature magic or something maybe get a rune of the beast master. When in doubt magic it out.
>>2364431I mean barbarians are supposed to be in tune with nature or some shit (at least that's the trope) and Vall I imagine at least thought there were some animals worth riding around on at least for shits and giggles. The beast master archetype though should not underestimated though. Seriously one of the few things about farcry primal that was good was the animals and the rest was rather underwhelming but riding around on saber tooths and cave bears was genuinely fun.
>>2364367>Feed the griffin pups>>2364285It would give them something to look after like a baby there all going to get with.Ans when it gets biger no one eill dear tuch them couse of angery bird.
>>2364424We do have a druid.
>>2364447Yeah forgot about Duergir for a sec maybe we should ask him about how to handle the griffins. The guy's over a hundred he should know more then we do even if he doesn't have some magic to give us for animal taming.
>>2364444We should heed this man.>>2364447Having a battlemage of some kind with the warparty would be pretty dope too, if those exist in this setting.
>>2364367>>>2364447>>2364451I'll support>Ask Duergir for advice
So, do we plan on having our griffin like a warhound when it's young?
>>2364494Sounds badass to me, and the young'un must learn how to hunt man.
>Feed the PupsYou turn towards one of the nearby men, the ear piercing shrieks of the Griffins already giving you a headache."Go get some meat"Wren looks over, his arms crossed over his chest as he observes the young beasts."A LOT of meat"The warrior nods, bowing his head and ducking away, hurrying off. You lean against a stone support and watch the griffin s yank on their chains, screeching unhappily and clacking their beaks, their talons carving thin lines into the stone. The warrior returns quickly, bearing a wooden bucket in each arm filled to the grin with strips of meat, viscera and bone. He sets the buckets down and you thank him, stepping up to dip your hand into the bucket, grabbing a handful of raw, bloody flesh and approaching the scarred griffin. The pup crouches, eying you suspiciously before sniffing the air, eying the meat in your hand with a curious chirp. Its eyes narrow and it wiggled its rear legs, leaping as far as the chain will allow it, squawking in impotent fury as its leap is cut short. "Hungry eh?"You laugh, dangling a strip of meat and fat, the Griffins eyes following your hand intently. It chirps irritable, clicking its beak and pushing forward, its hunger overriding its sense."Here ya go little bird"You say softly, tossing the meat to the griffin pup. Its beak snaps shut like a steel trap in a blurring movement, the meat vanishing in a instant. You laugh as the griffin chirps hungrily again, watching the meat with even more interest. You look back at your companions as you toss a handful of meat to the pup"Best get some food in the little buggers."The next hour is spent feeding the griffin pups, the buckets being refilled six times with meat scraps and chunks of bone. By the time you finish the griffin pups are dozing contentedly, their bellies bulging full and their beaks smeared with blood and fat. Wren nods in appreciation, clapping you on the back"Good thinking Magnus. Griffins are simple minded as youngsters. If you provide food for them, they see you as one of them. It will take time to build up their trust but if you feed them and associate with them enough, they'll eventually accept you"You watch the scarred youngster sleep for a bit, its claws twitching in its sleep, probably dreaming of mauling a mammoth to ribbons. You imagine riding a beast like that into battle, crashing into your opponents like a meteor and dealing death in a flurry of blades and claws.>go get some rest. Washing the gore and blood from your hands you make your way back to your home, the bone deep weariness of two days march sapping all the energy from your bones. You bid your companions goodbye and make your way through the gathered crowd, the members of the tribe patting like minnows before a shark. You tiredly make your way up the path to your dwelling, pushing open the bearskin flap to find all three od your women sitting around the small fire pit, a clay pot of some stew simmering on the fire and some round loaves of bread cooling against the wall. They start in shock before a hesitant smile creeps across Keera's face, surpassed by Mylea and Ysoldes bright grins, Ysolde quickly stifling it back into a pleasant but blank expression"H-hello Magnus""Magnus! Eh.. Magnus. Your back!""Magnus!!"You smile in exhaustion as your midsection is impacted by Mylea's soft form, Ysolde tentatively joining her a moment later. At your urging. Keera creeps forward, tucking herself against your side."Good to see you Magnus..."You look around your cave and are startled to see how clean it is. Squat Candles burn in the alcoves, providing steady, warm light. Your pack has been emptied and even *WASHED*, The interior carefully repacked.Your weapons and armor sit along the far wall, cleaned, repaired and remade according to Hemmiks promise. You'll have to inspect them somehow after you get some rest. You stagger towards the bed, shedding clothes and boots, falling upon the soft pad of freshly shaken hides with a sigh, snoring almost as soon as your head hits the pillow. You don't feel the girls cleaning the sweat, blood and filth from your limbs and hair. You don't feel a blanket of bearskin being pulled over you. You don't feel three soft forms pressing against you, murmuring in your ear.You feel fire.>Cont
>>2364992You stand on an ancient battlefield, the ground churned to bloody mud, bodies piled as high as small hills. Arrows for the ground like stalks of grass and the corpses of massive war beasts lay like silent mountains. Rivers of blood boil as the inferno sweeps over them, the flames shifting from orange to blue to white. The flames outline the form of a massive warrior, the ruinous blade in his hand shimmering with arcane power. The inferno coils around his form and he laughs, batting aside the torrent with his bare hands."Vallos! Serpent of the Burning Titan! Your flames cannot touch me! Your claws, my skin they cannot pierce! Your army is broken! Your master dead! What hope do you have?"Through the smoke and flames, a massive reptilian head emerges. Horns and spikes jut from brow and jaw. Fangs as long as lances smoke as burning magma drips like saliva from the jaws. Great cracks in the deep crimson skin glow like the gates to some burning hell. The great Dragon snarls, its ruby eyes glittering, narrowing in... Fear?"Vaaaaalll. Cursed mortaaaaaal. Kharvallos gifteeeed me life. Youuuu had no riiiiight."Vall slams his blade into the ground, carving the earth like butter."I HAD THE ONLY RIGHT! He was there! HE WAS THERE WHEN SHE DIED!"He roars, his beard flecked with spittle and blood."She was innocent! INNOCENT! Her only crime? LOVING US! And they killed her!"Vallos hisses, his serpentine tongue flickering as he shifts backward."And youuuu killed himmmmm. Aaaaand Soldallo. Aaaand Fosthrimos. Faaaairly done"Vall chuckles darkly, working the grip of his sword, speaking softly but each word carries like the roar of a god."Fairly done... But there is still bloody work to be done...more of their ilk. More of yours... You"Vallos roars in rage, rearing onto his back legs, towering over Vall like a mountain, his jaws opening wide"Youuuu must killllll me first!"Vall doesn't even look up as the massive jaws descend, simply planting his feet and driving the blade upwards. "I already have"A faint smile crosses his face as the blade of ruin carves through draconic muscle, bone and brain, cleaving a wound through the skull of Vallos, Flame of the West, Serpent of the Burning Titan, First son of Kharvallos. The Dragon rears backward spasmodically, its legs and wings kicking as its brain dies.Vall watches the mortally wounded dragon thrash, planting his hands on the hilt of his sword."A price must be paid for their crimes Vallos. A price must be paid"You awake with a start, your heart racing as you are pushed back to wakefulness. You take a deep breath as Keera nearly stirs, snuggling her head deeper into your side as she does. You reach up, wiping beads of sweat from your face and staring at the ceiling of the cave, the early dawn light creeping through the gap in the entrance.>Stay in bed for a bit. Eventually the combination of deep, even breathing, peaceful silence and the soft warmth of your concubine stills the turmoil within your mind and your heart finally slows. You stroke Keera's hair with one hand, Ysoldes with the other and smile to yourself as you lay your head back against the padding of the bed. Mylea shifts in her sleep, mumbling something about breakfast and you chuckle"My thoughts exactly" Your stomach clamoring for food.Extracting yourself from the pile of warm bodies on the bed you pull on clothes that seem a lot cleaner than they did yesterday, scooping a helping of the thick, savory goat stew into the hollowed center of a loaf of bread. You scoop up the stew with a crust, savoring the onions and carrots, tender chunks of goat meat. You lick your lips and tear into the food, wolfing down the entire loaf and belching contentedly.>Go see Duergir>Go see Throth>Go see Barbas>Go see your friends>Go check on the Griffin pups>inspect your weapons and gear>"inspect" your women

>>2365094This except we need to start training our pups. Like dogs they need full time love and support if we're to make our self a war beast. In real life dogs of war basically live with their human counterparts creating a loyal bond. We need to get started fast because in real life the dogs are with the human from birth. Or we can go back to rapeing and pillaging everything
>>2365131I have visiting the griffins as part of my 3 things to do list. We spend maybe 30 mins inspecting our gear and at most 2hrs fucking our concubines all over our cave. We have the rest of the day to visit our griffins, our friends and the rest of our contacts amongst the Crag Wolves. After we check with our griffs I say we tell Duergir about our dream and then tell Throth that we are going out to do some tribal confederating.
>>2365064>>"inspect" your women
>>2365159Sure but we need to have the Griffin come with us on a leash and beat the shit outta it when it attacks us to show domince like you would dogs. And when we go pillaging we should take it with us so it gets use to traveling. Look for all I care we can kill them and make a chicken pot pie. Just saying if we want a cool war beast we need to treat it like one not some bird in a cage.
>Inspect Gear>Inspect Women>check on Birb. >Writing in order.
>>2365239We don't need to walk around with the beastie right now anon, and if we just beat the shit out of it before our griff gets used to us it won't trust us at all. That and taking it out for walk or starting its training wasn't an option. When QM updates the quest and we get to the griff pen he'll probably give us options on what we want to do like train our griff so hold your horses the big bird ain't going anywhere and we still have other bussiness to take care of and we have plenty of time to do it all.
You bite the plug from a waterskin and swill liquid through your teeth, spitting it onto the remains of the previous nights fire with a hiss. Crouching by your freshly repaired and remade gear you pull the weapons and armor from their bundles, whistling in appreciation.Your hammer has been polished and filed, the points of its angled head ground back into the blunt spikes they were before. The haft, strong, black wood is reinforced with iron strips, pegs and rivets driven deep into the wood to secure the strips. It feels *right* in your hand, good and whole and *Powerful*.You set your hammer aside and heft the cool wooden shaft of your battle spear. The blade and guard have been completely remade, the blade nearly four feet of broad, heavy black steel, tapering to a needle sharp point. The blade emanates pure *cold* but not the deep hateful cold of the moon goddess. This is the cold of a winter morning, the cold of a mountain spring, The deepest darkness of a hidden cave. It cools your blood just by touching it but you can feel the power of ice within the steel. "By Valls blade"You whisper, amazed by Hemmiks craftsmanship. You could shave a spiders ass with the edge or hack through plate armor with this.Setting the spear aside you pick up your armor, running your thumb across the sections of mail backed leather. Your joints are covered by sections of double-ply mail, your chest covered by a sheet of overlapping leather sheets as thick as a mans thumb backed with solid rings. Your Pauldron and helm will match this armor perfectly. Making a mental note to praise Hemmik in person, you set the armor back down, piling it atop your armored boots and placing your helm and gauntlets atop the pile.Standing, you turn your attention to your concubines, hungrily licking your lips as the bear skin shifts, revealing so much soft flesh they may as well be nude.>One on one time(who ravage)>Magnus Smash (4some)

Yanking away the blanket jolts Ysolde awake. She blearily attempts to focus on your face but finds her view.. *obscured*"Magnus?! Wha... Pulling on your clothes (again) you step out into the crisp air of the Crag, laughing as several young men and boys make obvious exits from the area as fast as possible. Pulling your shirt on you quickly make your way to the hollow in the mountain where the griffins are being kept. You can already see thralls and workers under the command of Dolf carving a large hollow into the face of the east peak of the Crag. Hammers and picks ring against stone as they toil, the mountain giving way inch by inch.Unhappy screeches and squawks echo from the beast pen as you approach, several young warriors watching carefully, children darting close curiously only to bolt at each screech. You grab one of the young men by his neck, pulling him close."Meat. Lots of it. Now."You snarl, knowing the youths had been tormenting the Griffins pups. You watch the beasts as they test their chains, chirping unhappily to each other and clawing at the stone in impotent fury. Wren is already there, sitting by the far wall and simply watching his griffin carefully, the beast scratching experimentally at its chains anchor."Here ya go Magnus"Says the young warrior, handing you a bucket of meat scraps, stepping back hurriedly as you glare at him.Focusing your attention on the griffin pup you had claimed, you observe the beasts movements, watching as it focuses on you, chirping curiously.>Spend time acclimating your griffin to you. You throw the scraps from closer and closer, each one eaten with less and less concern for you. Finally, you sit within arms reach of the griffin pup, dumping the bucket of scraps in front of it. It tears into the pile with gusto as you regale it with stories from your mercenary days. From your first ever ambush to your battle at castle Vollsung, you recite your entire history to the beast as it feeds.By the time you are done, the meat is long gone, the other Griffins are being fed and the scarred griffin is watching you curiously, its beak half open. It squawks curiously, leaning forward and you cautiously extend your hand, ready to jerk it back at the first sign of hostility."Easy. Easyyyyyy big fella"Amazingly, the griffin locks its eyes on yours, leaning its head forward as your palm slides along the feathers of its head. You pet it tentatively for several seconds before a whispered curse from one of the watching boys startled the griffin and it backpedal away, snapping at the air."Damn fool! I wonder since we have the griffins now and we plan on rampaging with them and everything, do any of the other tribes have monsterous war beasts or mounts? Do the moon lords have any big beasties they ride around on? Also axeanon >>2364452 asked a good question as well, are there any proper wizards? Are there quick and nasty spellcasters who can shoot fireballs or is it still traditional sword and sorcery magic where its mostly dealing with enhancing and cursing things and its all done by ritual and building stuff?
Deciding that spiritual wisdom is the key to true wisdom, you make your way to. Duergirs cave. The jagged crack in the stone is unsettling to some, downright terrifying to others. To you, its the place where you were brought back to the land of the living kicking and screaming. To you, its like visiting your own grave and birthplace all in one.The wisps of heady incense smoke and burning herbs drifts like the mists of a cool morning as you duck through the widening cave. Strange shadows flicker along the walls, moving of their own volition. The scents of strange powders and extractions tingle your nose as you duck into the round cavern that serves as Duergirs home. Squat candles and bioluminescent fungi provide ample light to see as the Shaman sprawls runes onto a set of knucklebones, a shard of some black glass in his wrinkled hands leaving deep, neat scores into the bone."Magnus. Valls strength suits you?"He rasps, dipping the tip of the shard into a bowl of ink, staining each rune a different color."Its incredible Duergir. I feel... Better than I ever have. Stronger, healthier, like I could run a thousand miles and throw a horse"You sit without even being bid, Duergir carving in silence for a bit before glancing at you, his eyes glittering like polished onyx behind his veil of tangled white hair"That... That is only a fraction of Valls might. He was more than untamed strength my boy. He was boundless fury, endless hatred, a flame of destruction tempered and directed by a cold, callous mind that had his opponents outfitted in ways they never even suspected. You are more than your muscles Magnus."He taps the bones with the dagger, each one sizzling as the ink ignites, scorching deeply into the bone.He turns toward you, rubbing his gnarled hands together."What can I do for you magnus?">Ask about the Beastmasters of old>Ask about your visions>Ask about the spirits and what you can do to appease them>ask about getting some mystical help (this list has been altered and under construction)>Other

>Visions first. You lean forward, bracing your elbows on your knees and clear your throat"My.. Visions? Dreams? The ones sent by Vall? Theyre... Theyre confusing. Each one shows some different point in his life and im not sure what hes trying to tell me"Duergir smiles, showing his remaining teeth and rolls the carved knucklebones in his hands, the runes shimmering."My boy, I am not nearly arrogant enough to presume to know the will of any of the ancestors, let alone Vall. He may be trying to warn you, he may be trying to teach you, he may even be preparing you for some great disaster. There is simply no knowing until it comes to pass... Or unless he drops in for tea and lets me know personally"You both chuckle, Duergir flicking the knucklebones onto the floor only to scoop them up an instant later with a grumble."There's no Wyrm in my cave you silly buggers..."You raise an eyebrow in confusion and Duergir gestures to the air"Lesser spirits. Wind elementals and whatnot. Little fools have no idea what they talk about. Now, I feel you have something else to ask?">cont
>>2366355... oh fuck there's definitely a Wyrm in the cave somewhere somehow.
>>2366355"Well, you know that I brought back some griffin pups and eggs yesterday..."You begin, Duergir rolling the bones incessantly. He nods, his beard twitching as he smiles"Dangerous creatures, even when they're young. The great black one? The Bloody clawed terror? He could've torn you to ribbons so small even I couldn't have put you back together."You ponder the mental image of Duergir stitching your tattered body back together and shudder mentally, forging on"There were great beast tamers in our tribes history yes? Men who bent the will of griffins, Wyrms and mammoth to their cause?"Duergir nods, grasping his gnarled staff and placing a clear crystal into the knot of carved wood at its top. With a breathe it blazes into light, illuminating shadows along the walls, shadows that move of their own accord, forming men atop wolves, mammoths, boars and griffins. Men riding them into battle and caring for the beasts."Yes Magnus. There were great beast masters in the past. It is a bit of our history that some condemn to legend and myth but I know that we can do so again. By the spirits, even those barbarous Black Hands have gotten trolls to do as they command. If those fools can order those foul natured beasts around, I see no reason that we cannot outdo them"You smile broadly, watching the shadows play along the walls. A eagle carries a man far above the mountains, a mammoth crashes through the walls of a town. A stone breaker strides through an army, each step crushing men to paste."Is there anything you could do to help us with the beasts?"Duergir snuffs out the light, sitting back down gently before rubbing his beard and nodding slowly."If you bring the beasts back, I may be able to place some concoctions of mine into their food and drink, making them more pliable. Or, I could call upon the spirits of past Beast Takers to gift you knowledge.">Drug the beasts>Spiritual guidance.>Other

To your disgust he tastes the shard with a sigh of pleasure, cocking a bushy eyebrow you."SweetMoss syrup. Duergir smiles grimly, narrowing his dark eyes at you curiously before nodding."A morbid choice but a useful one. The spirits of death and hunger are greedy beasts and will only bestow a portion of your foes strength to you if you properly appease them."You swallow nervously, hoping you don't have to sacrifice a baby or anything like that"What must I do to appease them?"Duergir strokes his beard and ponders for a moment before replying"Bring me... The teeth of a Shrieker.... The hearts blood of a strong foe... Some grave dust... And then I must bleed you. Heavily."You blink in shock, biting your cheek as you process the ingredient list. Shriekers only inhabit the deepest caves, the batlike beasts venturing out at night to feed on the blood of men and beast. The hearts blood of a strong foe? You can do that easily but it's... >>2366548Well one of the ritual materials is grave ash and Magnus said a cairn or tomb would have some of that and that relic hunters are there so lets be efficient. We go to get the ritual materials, but when we go to find the ashes we specifically go to a tomb or cairn to look for some cool artifacts maybe a magic weapon that we could use.But on the other hand I feel the urge to start our conquestin and moving the plot along. We got our first round of upgrades for both equipment, and ourselves and got a unique resource in the form of monster mounts, but I really want to use the stuff we got to move the plot around. The classic RPG dilemma, avoid the main plot to dick around and get souped up or go after the main plot and get shit done.

The next two weeks pass in a blur of activity. The roost progresses quickly, Dolf and his men carving into the mountain with gusto. Barbas lends you the pit during midday hours so you can train your men to carve into flesh with just as much glee. Hours are spent working over technique, teamwork, cover, grappling and endurance. You push the men hard, training right alongside them, just as you did with the Warhounds in your past. Urhost and Wren join in, lending their expertise and honing their skills as well. Urhost walks his men through the necessary forms to hack through shields and walls with as few blows as possible. They run laps around the Pit bearing heavy logs and stones until a trail of sweat can be seen all the way around the arena.Wren pushes his men through grueling exercises of aim and agility. His Skirmishers must hit progressively smaller targets from increasingly ludicrous ranges. You nearly die of shock when Wren, after hearing the task was impossible, draws and shoots without even looking, a impaled sparrow plopping down several seconds later.Your men are not the only ones you spend time training. >>2367530I approve dinner and pussy go well together (especially if they're the same thing). Also is that picture you just posted a good representation of Varg beasts?
You grab a young boy by the collar as he darts by, growling an order to the youth."Find Falhim, Urhost, Torbos, Arvel and Wren. Tell them to get ready to travel. Tell them to get their gear ready for a fight. Now"You growl in a low voice, pushing the boy along as he nervously nods. You quickly make your way to the Thrall quarters, searching out two men. You flick open the flaps that give the Thralls a modicum of privacy with no regard for the inhabitants, catching several either changing, washing themselves or engaged in more... Private acts. Finally you open the correct flap and find two familiar faces sitting by a small cookfire, roasting a scrawny chicken and heating a bowl of stew heavy with peas and carrots. They look up with a start but smile cautiously as Lionel stirs the stew. He nods agreeably as you step inside"Morning Magnus, long time no see. What can we do for you?"Balon grunts as he burns his tongue on a steaming hunk of chicken"Mornin'. Chicken?"He grunts, rolling his thick neck to alleviate the cramps brought on by the hard beds.>Offer them a chance to join your adventuring party>Ask how they are doing>Ask what jobs they have been doing.>Other
>>2367538Why yes it is anon. Nasty little beasts arent they
>>2367566>Offer them a chance to join your adventuring partyInteresting thing I learned while doing some reading about etymology for germanic languages is that Varg is another word for wolf in Norse. Varg specifically is a name given to monstrous or unnatural wolf beasts and is mean to represent the traditional portrayal of wolves as savage enemies of man.
>>2367566>Offer them a chance to join your adventuring partyYOU HAVE A CHANCE TO JOIN A GREAT ADVENTURING PARTY
>>2367527What the hell is that?
>>2367667Varg beasts (a monstrous creature QM has mentioned) or at least a good depiction of what they look like.
Another thought on the great bear. I bet only things like our moonspear would hurt it.
>>2367701QM mentioned that the great bear has incredibly thick armored flesh and considering its the size of a bull mammoth which is probably 15ft at the shoulder and the bear can probably stand up on two legs its total height is probably 30+ ft in height. Methinks we will need a ultra weapon probably with some damage and AP runes to just tickle one of those big bastards.
You crouch down, taking a offered chunk of cchicken and wolfing it down. You lick grease off your fingers and dust your hands on your pants, smiling at the two. Their weeks of hard labor and low rations haven't cut into the fact that both of these men are well conditioned warriors. Lionel posseses the thick wrists and broad shoulders of a swordsman and archer while Balon is a squat and stocky pile of muscle and bone, arms as thick as most mens legs."Im getting some men together for a bit of an adventure. There will be traveling, monsters to kill, men to slay, treasure to find. You come with me, you'll find your place as Thralls... Long forgotten. Better food, better lodgings, women, *Freedom*. What do you say?"The pair snort in laughrter, sharing a look before nodding, grasping your offered hand"O'course. Better food got me""Thought you'd forgotten about us Magnus"You quickly get the men situated as initiate warriors of the clan. With you vouching for them, a quick trip to Barbas to sees them inducted and they stand before you, rolling their shoulders in the ill fitting, coarse leather armor. Lionel holds a short, heavy bladed spear with a bow and quiver along his back while Balon hefts a spiked mace and a thick wooden shield. You nod in approval, gesturing for the men to follow."You're proper Wolves now boys. Don't fuck up and don't betray us and you'll go far."They nod, already swaggering slightly as they watch their former companions being marched off for Dolf's labor crews and to till the fields.Leading your new recruits to the gathering stone, you find Wren, Urhost, Falhim, Torbos and Arvel all waiting. Urhost barks his laughter as he watches Lionel and Balon approach behind you, his massive axe hefted over his shoulder"Well it looks like you got a pair'o villagers playing wolves Magnus! They got teeth? Or just snarls?"Balon and Lionel flush behind you as you all share a laugh but they wisely remain silent."I gave them the choice of being sheep or being wolves. Take a guess what they picked? I fought them, I know they can fight but this is their trial run"You chuckle, striding to the center of the group.Torbos speaks up, leaning on the his hand axe, his shortbow cased on his back."What are we doing Magnus? Don't have enough men for a raid. Too many for scouting. Whats the plan?">We're headed to hunt a Shrieker>We're headed to go explore a tomb>We're headed to go murder some patrols and find a strong foe>We're off monster hunting
>>2367744>We're headed to hunt a ShriekerLet's get that out of the way first.

>>2367729You'd need something with some serious damage output or straight up piercing damage.

>>2367775*shrugs* Nothing new under the sun by now everything been done at least once. So many sounds a human can make to form a word and all that.

>>2367766Ask away my negroid brethren.
>>2367790uh....everything. How strong would you say it is, is it magical? What kind of armor would we get if we made a cloak out of it's hide? What kind of damage could it do to someone, has anyone killed one before?
>>2367794They are not magical, just really big and tough. They routinely hunt mammoths and go to to toe with their giants, winning easily unless the giants are in a group. You would get a extremely badass cloak that would offer immense intimidation bonuses along with some hefty armor bonuses. They have been killed before, mainly by giants but sometimes a great hero can slay one by wits... Or by killing it from the inside.
>>2367787Could we learn to enchant our own weapons at somepoint? maybe learn some of that sorcery to go along with out swords?
>>2367803would you say it's like the Nemean Lion? Is it the grandest thing in the mountains?
>>2367808If you dedicate study to it, you could certainly learn to inscribe runes into your weapons and imbue them with power (elemental damage, Armor penetration, additional attack die, etc)
>>2367811Stone-Breakers are bigger but less aggressive (Lord of the Rings Mumakil size). The Great Bears are the true apex predator of the ground though.
>>2367819off topic, what is/was the greastest tribe in the mountains?
>>2367821The Sons of Vall used to be the biggest and strongest tribe but they were shattered into countless smaller tribes by the invasion of the Silver Legion into the Shattered Peaks, the original Cult of the Moon.
>>2367821The Current largest tribe by population is the Blood Axes. The Crag Wolves are known as a substantial military power aand a respected tribe
>>2367828Would it be weird for us to raid another tribe?
>>2367832Not at all. As Throth said before, they don't follow the old accords and act as savages. They are free to raid and kill as much as you see fit.
>>2367825They were successful in breaking up the sons, but what happened afterwards? Why did the Silver legion not exterminate the barbarians?
>>2367744>>We're headed to go explore a tombAlright, now I'm actually voting.
>>2367834The Silver Legion didnt have the numbers after their campaign to pursue the scattered tribesmen into the mountains. They claimed the valley and several of the peaks, slowly consolidating their power and becoming the Church of Moonlight.

>>2367880Lord Daro is basically seen as a pathetic waste of space by his superior, Lord Brune. He's basically just used for padding Lord Brunes army. And hypothetically speaking while the bulk of their armies were gone we just so happened to maybe destroy all of their major settlements, but I mean that would be unlikely to ever happen and we are totally not the kind of bloodthristy barbarian to emplot such devil like cunning right?
>>2367920Well the message would have to get through hundreds of miles of hostile terrain
>>2367926You just gotta tell the right people or just wait for them to do it anyways. But my poor attempt at joking aside what percentage of the Silver legions would be deployed against a significant assualt from the north? would that be a golden oppurtunity for an attack?
>>2367932The majority (up to 70%) would be deployed to the northeast. The remaining 30% would be bolstered by peasant levies and used to maintain order. Whichever towns and villages don't contribute enough men or materials are branded heretics and butchered to the last.
>>2367916>>2367943So is this how we gain the great bear?
>>2367943So that's a big fat yes. Excellent. I have no more questions for you tonight QM thanks for running I hope that you have a nice evening.

Urhost speaks up."Don't you bloody say a Shrieker"You cackle madly and leap down from the stone, pulling Urhost and Falhim under your arms and shaking them."A Shrieker! Not just any Shrieker though, the biggest, meanest one we can find!"The collective groan that moves through the group makes you chuckle like a drunken villager as they all whine and complain. Wren shrugs, pulling his map out and bracing the edges with small stones"Well, madness aside we need to set a course. The best place to find Shriekers is in the Deeps. Its dangerous, cold and blacker than a dragons heart but the beasts breed there. Or... Or we could find a cave that has one living in it and ambush it when it comes out to feed">Head to the Deeps. Well then lets go caving"Your companions groan and curse, with the exception of Arvel and Wren. Arvel grins like a madman while Wren simply nods curtly and carefully rolls his map back up."We'd best get on the way then. >>2368467I offered the chance to skip dialogue. Im trying to maximize both action and story without being too heavy on either. Sorry if its tedious :(
>>2368475Not trying to hate, this quest kicks ass. I postulate that people are trained to think if their is a dialogue option, they oughta take it.
I just wanted to get to know Balon and Lionel. So far your NPCs have been likable and I can see the relationships they have with magnus becoming more important if this quest keeps progressing. That and the more questions we ask the more we know about the setting. So far I've learned a lot about the region we live and what we can do in the future.
>>2368475>>2368480My thoughts on the matter are that people should say something when there's something to say. We have to say a dialogue option and nobody ever approaches us. And when you give out all options, everyone chooses all the options. Perhaps who has new dialogue could be better streamlined and setting up choices of what we want to ask seems unnecessary.
>>2368498Exactly what I was thinking, great explanation anon
>asking in order."Tell me about yourselves. What brought you here?"You ask, picking your way down the narrow mountain path.Balon snorts while Lionel clears his throat"Besides having our asses beaten to a pulp by you?"You all laugh for a bit before Balon speaks up"Used t'be a Legionare. Vanguard Heavy infantry. Fought the tribals, the WildFolk, those sheep fuckers from the Highlands. Got tired o'being marched on innocent villages an' took my discharge papers. Went back home, it was burnt. Settled up at Rhya's hill, killed folks for that whinging drunkard there"He grunts, clenching his grip on the haft of his mace as you digest the information. Lionel is silent for a moment before speaking"I was a Lancer. Rode from one end of this valley to the other. Kept the law, kept the peace, tried to be a good man. Our 'officer'... Captain Gael was a bastard. A murderous rapist who used his position to torment everything we came across. I couldn't take it anymore so... One night, I took my dagger and rammed it behind that whoreson's ear, took his horse and rode hard. The sherrif took me in, gave me a job as his bodyguard. He knew I could fight">Cont
>>2368498Ah ok. Excellent point, ill try to improve the dialogue process a bit.
>Skills. You're silent for a moment as you walk, Urhost and Arvel tormenting Torbos about his crush on a woman in the village before asking your next question"You both had experience as soldiers yes? What were your skills? How were you trained"Balon speaks up, the stocky warrior having to increase his pace to keep up"Told ya I was a Vanguard in the Silver Legions. We got trained in sieges, close quarters fightin', entrenchment, that whole deal."You nod appreciatively. Sieges and the bloody work involved with either defending of taking a fodress or town was much different than regular combat."Good. We can definitely put that to use. And you Lionel?"Lionel smiles softly, spinning his spear about his hand like a baton before answering."I was a Lancer. Trained in archery, riding, spear and foot combat. We worked damn well as scouts and rangers too"Wren looks back with a snort, shaking his head"Ive slept ten feet above a camp of Lancers. You wouldn't know a good scout unless they kicked you on the ass"You all share a laugh at the mens expense, the narrow trail providing no other amusements>Cont
>>2368569"The moon lords? Your previous masters? What can you tell me about them?"You ask, looking back at the pair.Balon and Lionel share a look before shrugging almost as one. Lionel speaks up"Honestly? Not a lot. They don't interact with the common folk much and you really only see them on either the battlefield or at a festival. Lord Caius is in charge though, thats for sure. Hes king in all but name, preferring to go by 'Lord Protector of the Valley of The Moon' the pretentious twat. Lord Brune, Lord Maro and Grandmaster Aldrich and Lady Myra enforce his rule. Maro supplies money and materials, Brune supplies men, Aldrich is a nasty cold bugger, bigger Zealot than most and Myra... Well even here I don't feel safe to talk about that woman. Shes had families murdered in their sleep for not complimenting her dress."He shudders, glancing around nervously.Balon nods, spitting over the the edge of the trail"Brune. Fought under him. Vicious, vicious fucker. Big and strong and tough as old leather. Bigger ev'n than you Magnus. Seen him take a catapult shot to the chest and keep on walking like it were a snowball. Maro, 'e hardly ever leaves the hollow peak. Scared o'damn near everythin'. Caius though? Seen'im once, On the battlefield. Fuckers dangerous. No man that young can be that big or that strong. Passing a group of fellow Crag Wolves, a young cliff jumper suspended from a pole slung over their shoulders. Greeting them amicably, your companions let the hunters pass by with only mild ribbing on the size of the cliff jumper. Wren speaks with the groups leader and shakes the mans arm happily, waving you forward."He says they camped a few miles up, along a shelf on the cliff face, lots of caves around there. Several of those caves could be home to a Shrieker of some decent size."You grin viciously, smacking Wren on the shoulder happily and forging ahead."We'd best get there then!"Hureying forward into the early hours of the night sees you on a broad shelf along the face of a bare mountain pasS. Numerous caves dot the side of the cliff with small paths worn into the rock around them.Making your camp in the same cave that the hunters took shelter in, Arvel rekindled the remains of their fire while Falhim and Lionel stand watch at the mouth of the cave.Wren and Urhost sit across from you and present their thoughts. Wren pulls out a set of thick, barbed arrows with a cord attached to their shaft"Now, with the Shriekers, our best bet would be to wait until it comes out to feed, Anchor these arrows into the cliff or on our belts. Keep it tied down and it won't be able to get away"You nod appreciably but Urhost shakes his head, jabbing his finger into the stone floor."We find out what cave the bugger is staying in and get above it, when it comes out, we drop down onto it with spears and pin the fucker to the ground">Anchor the beast down and wear it out>Death from above>Venture into the cave to kill it>Other

>>2368996There is a real life weapon called a sword staff and its basically what our weapon is in quest. Its a sword blade with a cross guard, but it has a spear shaft instead of regular hilt. It can be used like a pole arm or you can grip it closer to the blade and use like a sword. But aparently it has questionable origins (it least that's what wikpedia says and I had a hard time finding a picture.
>>2369021Good for you QM
You think over Wren's suggestion and give it serious thought. Urhost's plan, while bold, has some serious capability to go disastrously wrong, namely shattered ankles. You test the long, barbed heads of the arrows, each curved hook sharp as a needle. Examining the coil of deviously stout cord attached to the barbed arrows you give it experimental tugs, both you and Urhost hauling on it as hard as you could without success. You finally nod and make your decision."If we anchor the beast down and let it wear itself out, it will be much easier to slay and won't be able to escape us."You declare, nodding with finality.Wren nods briskly, laying out a dozen of the arrows from a special case in his pack, he assembles the barbed anchors with deft movements."The only real risk will be with the first few shots. That's when it will be able to evade me the most. If you can pin it down in one spot, I should be able to put one into its back or lodge it in bone"Urhost grins cruelly, running a finger along the edge of his axe."Six of us on the bugger ought to keep it in one spot. As long as nobody stands in front of it when it the fucker decides to scream we should all be golden. Although if I go deaf I won't hear Hyala nagging me"You all chuckle and you and Wren spend a bit of time teasing Urhost about his strong willed wife. After a particularly venomous joke from Wren about the size of Urhost's axe being compensatory, you bid the laughing pair goodnight and roll out your bedroom, knowing you cant top that without being punched.>timeskip to next day (prep hunt area)>Timeskip to next NIGHT (actual hunt)

>>2369092Sounds like a good idea, I'll support it. If that doesn't work than Magnus will give it the 'Ol "Griffin punch" to the face to daze it.
>>2369101Yeah that would be pretty good. A net that big if it lands on target will do a lot to slow the beast down. Cavemen used the same technique to restrain large animals (including mammoths) so it was easier to spear them.
>>2369067>timeskip to next day (prep hunt area)
If we know that it has a sonic screech thing, would making some kind of earplugs for Magnus to tank and distract it while he gets immobilized by the rest of the team work? Or at least help mitigate the damage from its sonic attack?
>>2369061sorry for the late reply, but it looks like a poormans glaive.
>>2369067>timeskip to next day
Next idea. Maybe we can get some extreme stuff for Druiger to heal Hemmick's gimpness with.
>>2369432It looks like more of a pure polearm in that drawing but the point of the weapon is that it has an actual sword blade as its business end. Older examples aparently had viking era sword blades at the end of the shaft. So you could say it is kind of like a glaive or billhook but you can use it for both stabbing and slashing and that the blade is at least the length of a short sword. Kinda sounds unwieldy to me, but stranger things have been made into weapons

>Weighted Net>Blazing SpearsYou spend the majority of the daylight hours preparing a large net with Urhost and Arvel. Rope and strands of rawhide are twisted around heavy stones, the entire net bound together like a monstrous spiders web. Only you are capable of casting the weighty trap but you are sure even the largest shrieker would be bound like a fly inside it.Falhim, Torbos, Lionel and Balon venture down the mountainside a bit to where lean, hard saplings grow along the treeline. Hacking down several, they whittle them down into four meter spears, the wooden tips carved down to sharp points and hardened in the campfire.Wren pounds the anchor spikes for the barbed arrows into the stone above the cave, ensuring that after the second shot, the beast wouldn't be able to flee either away or back into its cave. Finally darkness begins falling and you stand in the gloom, a unbundled torch in your hand and your weapons and shield ready to slay a monster. Wren sits above the cave, the first and sharpest of the barbed arrows already on the string. Arvel spins his long bladed axe around his palm and grins like a madman while Urhost checks the buckles on his armor.>Try to draw out the Shrieker>Wait for it to emerge on its own>Smoke it out>Other

You turn to Arvel, grinning viciously as curious clicks and chatters emerge from the depths of the cave, a pair of glittering, beady black eyes visible in the gloom."He doesn't seem eager to come out. How about we encourage him?"You extend your torch, the end wrapped heavily in greasy, pitch soaked rags. Arvel touches his own to it and with a spark from Falhim's tinderbox the pair come alight with sooty orange flame, casting flickering light around you. An unhappy chatter emerges as the pair of eyes retreats a bit at the sudden, hated light. Urhost chuckles, touching his own torch to yours to light it"Bugger doesn't seem to like the light"You cock an eyebrow and wind your arm back as you step forward, Arvel and Urhost following"It just has to get a closer look">Roll me 1d100. To your grim amusement, your torch bounces off the creatures nose, momentarily illuminating a hateful, twisted batlike face, a maw of needle sharp fangs, enormous leathery ears and a pair of beady, black eyes widening in fury.Greasy, thick smoke begins oozing from the mouth of the cave, the Shriekers chatters and screeches of rage growing louder and more desperate as the piled leaves and debris of the cave floor ignites into a smoldering carpet, only adding to the bullish atmosphere. The skin of your face and arms actually ripples from the intensity, your ears feeling like nails are being driven into your skull. Your companions clap their hands to their ears and stagger, some falling to their knees as their bodies cannot handle the sonic assault. You are made of sterner stuff however."SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!"Your hammer slams into the beasts neck with a vicious crunch, its shriek cutting off with a wet gurgle as its windpipe is smashed flat. That wound itself would be mortal but after being clawed, swiped, screamed at and nearly gnawed you feel this beast deserves a personal touch.Your hammer comes back around, the heavy, brutal blow crushing the bones of the Shriekers knee into powder. The monster collapses forward onto its knees, struggling for a breathe that simply won't come. You heft your BattleSpear and swing downwards, cleaving through hide, muscle, bone and spreading the beasts ribcage open. Blood and viscera pour out of the terrible wound, spreading like black oil across the stone of the cliff face. "Give me THAT"Your gauntleted fist shoots into the grievous, mortal wound and your steely fingers wrap around the Shriekers desperately beating heart. With a brutal twist and yank, the lump of muscle and blood comes free, your fingers digging deep into the sides. You stare at the heart for a moment before grinning viciously as the Shriekers eyes fix on you for the final time."This is mine now"Your blade comes around again, the enchanted, icy cold steel carving a line through the confused and dying Shriekers neck. Bone, skin, muscle, veins, all part like tissue before the steel. The Shriekers gurgle s go silent in a instant as it stills, the monstrous head slowly sliding forward as the beast topples, rolling free to bump against your boot, the jaw twitching for a moment before the eyes glaze over forever.>Gained >Shrieker Teeth>Hearts blood of a worthy foe>Loot Shrieker Corpse? >>2382999or claw as arrow tip
>18>15.With Wren's assistance, you spend the next few hours carving apart the Shriekers corpse. Its thick, leathery hide is peeled away, the material seemingly wanting to pull itself back onto the beast's body. Its so new you pull out in thick, white strands, Wren praising its strength and use as a powerful bow string. Its eyes are scooped from its skull and popped into a small, clay bottle Wren produces, apparently they are useful in enhancing ones sight in the dark. Even its long, razor sharp claws are cut from its paws, bundled up neatly in its hide. Finally you all sit around the fire, your wounded shoulder cleaned and stitched, chewing a hard won dinner of dried meats and fruit, washed down with surprisingly sweet tea Wren produces from his pack. You lean back as your companions extol your victory and needle Wren over his aim. Tipping back your mug of tea you smile happily"To a good hunt!""TO A GOOD HUNT!">End of Thread. I am sorry for being so sparse this thread, real life, relationship obligations and familial responsibilities have kept me distracted. This coming week will be much betyer hopefully. Feel free to criticize, questions, offer thoughts, questions, dump images, etc. Ill be here for a bit if anybody has a question or 8
>>2383032What's the difference between a black shrieker and an albino? And how fucked would we have been if we got the named ones
>>2383063A black Shrieker is your typical run of the mill Shrieker. Black Shriekers are around 9 feet tall at full maturity, tough as nails and can rip through groups of men like paper.Albino Shriekers are just fucking MEAN. Theyre driven out by their nestmates and have to scavenge to survive. Those that survive adolescence are vicious, scarred brutes that prey on anything that movesGetting a named variant would be been bad. Very bad. Extra damage die, lots more hp, faster, more armor, etc. It would be would've required your whole party to kill
>>2383097Albino Shriekers are the autistic basement dwellers of their species
>>2383129Theyre total NEETs
any valuables inside the shriekers nest ?
>>2383145Every time it shrieks it's just a super high pitched REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>2383185In the next thread(tomorrow noonish) you guys can roll to check its cave. You'll have to sort through mountains of scorched bones since you set its bedding on fire.
>>2383188An Ultra-High frequency "NORMIESGETOUTREEEEEEEEEEE"
>>2383206The named ones all should have (weeb)Japanese names and be overweight with terrible body hair
>>2383097So by pure luck, we got the easiest possible fucker to hunt. Thanks RNGesus.
>>2383629We got a mature one. There were juvies in the list
>>2383630Juvie Albino, which to be on it's own in the list like a mature Black Shrieker most likely means it's as strong, and WarlordQM explains that Albinos are fucking crazy, so I think a mature Black one is the best for us.
