Welcome back to The Greatest War quest. A world in which The Great War never ended, and there is more to fear than just machine guns and artillery. We follow our hero Dietrich Otto Jäger, recently graduated, currently known as Soldat 6174 as he does his part in the great German Empire.Where we last left off Dietrich was in the middle of his first training course. We'll pick up with the last written update and a vote for it. As always quest updates are here: https://twitter.com/LukaLukaLuuYou wrap yourself around the rope, pushing off from the wall and sliding down it as fast as is safe. Though you hit the ground harder than you had hoped, bouncing your teeth together painfully, you return to solid ground no worse for wear. Ahead of you, a low dug trough full of some sort of red and black slime, topped with an impossibly thick amount of barbed wire. As you approach, you note the smell of viscera that you’ve encountered many a time before. Had you anything left to throw up you likely would have, as the realization that the black spots are millions of flies, shifting and settling on the mass of gore and mud. The officer that had previously yelled at you atop the wall approaches from behind, the telltale sound of a gun being cocked rousing you from your horror.“Move now swine, into the slop.”With no choice but forward you: Crawl, try to keep yourself as far off the ground as you can Get down and dirty and get through as fast as you canVotes end every 15 minutes unless lengthened for a tie breaker.

>>2163822 Get down and dirty and get through as fast as you can
>>2163986>>2163938>>2163826>>2163857You move forward underneath the barbed wire that tears and catches at your uniform. The smell that made your eyes water from above invades your senses as you drag your face through the shifting mass of millions of maggots, flies and viscera. The mud underneath threatens to suck you in with each movement forward. You’re tempted to pull yourself up, and keep close to the wire as you spit wipe fly spawn from your face for the third time but the sound of sudden gunfire whizzing above your head makes a convincing argument not to.You crawl and crawl through what seems like an endless hell, feeling your hair moving and shifting with the creatures stuck inside it, the cold sticky slop forcing its way down your uniform with every inch you drag yourself. You focus on a happier time, the outline of Ivara atop you, silohouted against the night sky but try as you might the writing mass that covers you begs to be the center of your attention. You pull yourself free of the pit at the other end, frantically moving about to clear your hair and uniform. You smell of rotted death, and wish for the water you passed previously. Cold, dirty, and still covered in the small writhing creatures you push forward to the next section of the course. An officer stands next to a table, packs with various pieces of equipment stuffed inside and tied on to whatever open space on the out. The man hefts one of them towards you.“Keep it on or you’ll find yourself harshly disciplined. You’ve got 10 minutes to cover the mile of trail ahead of you. Best not dawdle, your time started when you walked up to the table.” The officer chuckles as he looks to the watch in his hands. You start off down the path, your lungs burning with every inhalation. Your nose is clogged with the fetid mud and you still feel your hair move of its own accord. As your feet pound the path, their steady beat your only company, you spot a grove of soft moss. You: Are so damn tired, just a moment to sit is all you need Notice that the maggots still crawl against your skin, they keep crawling and shifting and moving along your body. You can’t ignore it What was that movement across the trail Focus, keep going. Keep your pace and make it

>>2164042>>2164060>>2164075They keep moving and moving and writhing and you feel them constantly. They move and crawl and writhe on your skin it’s driving you insane insane insane insane. You drop the pack, tearing off your uniform and throwing it on the ground. You watch as maggots spill out from it, crawling on the fabric, writhing and turning. You’re filled with rage, grasping the jacket between your hands and hitting against the tree with a thwap. Over and over, you watch as maggots fall to the moss and crawl about. You feel them in your hair, and you yell in rage as you ruffle it violently. You catch them between your fingers and crush them, or toss them to the earth. You repeat the actions you did previously with your trousers, panting heavily as you finish cleaning as much as you can. Staring at your uniform in the moss you: Put it back on, continue your jog Leave it, they might still be in it Put it on and sprint. Make up for lost time

>>2164227You're right, my apologies anon it slipped my mind. I'll do so for each update now.
>>2164145>>2164170As much as you wish not to, you pull your uniform back on. The stench of blood and mud hits you again, and once more you are embraced by the cold wool. Slipping the pack back over your shoulders you begin to run rather than jog. The passage of time is lost you, you don’t know if that took you but a minute to do or five. Each inhalation tears at your throat, as if the very flesh was being stripped away with every breath. Your socks flop inside your boots, squashing unpleasantly each time you put weight on them. The scenery means nothing to you, your eyes looking only forward as you struggle to finish this section of the course. You round a bend, ahead of you is the familiar shape of a trenchline. An instructor stands near it, a rifle in his hand. “You barely made it 6174, did you stop to stare at the wood nymphs? Can you not even run a mile? Pathetic.” As you reach the breastworks of the trench, uncaring of what the officer said you find the rifle he was holding shoved into your hands, along with a loaded en-bloc.“All nine rounds on target. You repeat it until you accomplish, 20 push ups for each clip you waste.”You settle yourself against the wall of the trench, looking down range to the target 100 meters away. In your hands is the EG 37 you had used just a day ago, but it seems the cold and exhaustion has gotten to you. You: Pull hard on the trigger Pull back on the locking mechanism Disengage the safety Push the en-bloc in Squeeze the trigger slowly Release the bolt catch and close the mechanismPut the correct actions in the sequence they need to go in
>>2164256Well shit, don't even ask me guy's, drunk as a drunk skunk. Luck.

>>2164315Despite missing the at the start I'll give it to you anon for the attempt. Well done.
>>2164322You fumble slightly with the locking mechanism, your fingers too cold to want to work properly. After a moment the toggle lock pulls backwards. Your fingers refuse to lock right on the en-bloc but you manage to force it in with your palm. Pulling back on the toggle lock you hear the familiar sound of a round chambering as it snaps closed. Pushing forward the safety with the back of your index finger, you settle behind the weapon and gently squeeze the trigger. The shot rings out and finds its home on the target. The rifle pushes into your shoulder, the bolt making the familiar KA-CHUNK as it cycles back and forth. Crack KA-CHUNK. Crack KA-CHUNK. You find yourself comfortable behind the rifle despite the exhaustion that eats at you from the inside, and the cold that leeches any energy you had away. The locking mechanism snaps back for the ninth time, thin wisps of smoke trailing into the air from both ends of the barrel. Setting the rifle against the breastworks you lean back. Looking over your shoulder at the officer, you find a expression best described as a mixture of approval and surprise. “Well...I had heard you were good with a rifle 6174, but I didn’t think you would qualify marksman during the endurance course. Make your way to the exit down the path. Well done soldier.”You stand, hefting the pack over your shoulder and walking slowly, allowing yourself to enjoy the slow pace. >>2164388>>2164395>>2164396You continue forward, trying your best to ignore the sounds of music and singing to your left where the thing had crossed. You feel compelled to follow it, but the exhaustion that eats at you and the rising fear makes you keep your course. You continue moving, the sounds fading in the distance behind you. Ahead of you, the clearing where you began your day meets your eyes. Those who have yet to run the course still stand, their lines far shorter than when you began. Gerard still stands atop the trenches, a cigarette in his mouth burning down to the end. He flicks it forward into the mud, finding its place amongst the others that had been smoked the same. As if feeling your approach, Gerard turns to look at you. He nods once, before turning back and yelling for the next recruit to begin. Singing and moving across the path.” Gerard cocks and eyebrow at you, looking you up and down. “Are you sure the course didn’t take its toll on you boy? Such things aren’t to be joked of.”You repeat yourself, trying your best to stand at attention. “Wood Nymphs likely. A couple hundred years ago they might have been a nice sight, a bunch of pretty little women flitting through flowers and dancing. Now however, they’ve come to hate us. They’ll try to strip the flesh right off you. We’ll send a flammenwerfer through the woods again.” Gerard begins to smile.“Unless you’d like to do it yourself 6174.”You: Accept, burn the monstrous filth Burning forest spirits doesn’t sit well with you. You’ll be needing all the shut eye you can get for the next two weeks.”You nod, shifting the weight of the pack on your shoulders and moving through the mud towards the barracks you had changed in earlier. You struggle not to drag your feet, trying to ignore the smell that follows with you. You find yourself alone in the barracks, the others who had been beating and being beat having done the course same as you. You struggle to pull the uniform off you, and as you do you try to remember if you had taken the watch you found on the course with you.Did you? Yes No

>>2164571>>2164579You stuff your hand into your right pocket and find nothing, then checking the left. You close your hand around the golden watch, lifting it from your pocket and steadying it in front of you. The cover has been dented inwards, and the latch refuses to open. You pry at it and pull, and eventually it opens with a puff of powdered glass. The watch face is shattered, the machinery behind it having stopped its random movement. You feel cold, colder than your uniform had made you. As if the very fingers of winter wrapped around your heart and clenched tight. Your breath puffs into the air. Your vision swims briefly as a sense of vertigo overcomes you. Struggling to stay standing you reach for the cot to your left, falling into it. As you stare at the ceiling, you watch a white clad figure move slowly from the dark corner of the room. It’s fingers stretch forward farther than a humans should, digging the blackened nails into the wood of the ceiling. Each movement brought a wet squelch from the creature, the shredded tatters of a dress moving as if frozen in a time all their own, unaffected by physics. Its hair moved similarly, obscuring the face you were sure was looking at you. Your limbs won’t move, and you feel comfortable in this knowledge. Wait no.. you don’t. You want to scream and move and lay there still and let it happen. From the depths of your mind you hear a keening wail begin to take hold around your brain, comforting in the violence it heralds for you. Your wish to experience whatever horrors the creature has for you end as the door to the barracks fly open. You blink, feeling control return to yourself. At the door is the boy you watched get beaten earlier, who you realize must share the bunk room with you. “Oh, didn’t know anyone made it back yet. I was hoping I had a chance to be alone. >>2164702>>2164710>>2164718You shrug. “Better you than me.”Seven blinks at how candid you are. “I...I see.”You feel uncomfortable, wondering if your response is you or your exhaustion talking. “Look I...sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I’d just rather not be involved.”Seven nods, a bit more understanding. “I take it so you don’t have to eh? Fair enough Dietrich. I didn’t expect much more.”You stand before each other awkwardly, feeling the weight of your still soaked uniform. “So, why were they doing that anyways?”Seven seems to be surprised you would ask, shifting from one foot to the other. “I took one of the few field officer spots allocated to our class, due to my score being a bit higher than his. As I’m not an officer yet I can’t really do much about what had happened. It’d look weak.”You’re surprised that the lanky figure in front of you was able to qualify for field officer. A moment of awkward silence passes before Seven rubs the back of his neck.“Well, if that’s everything I’d like to change to a clean uniform and get some sleep before my next beating.”You nod, remembering the state of your own uniform. At the base of your cot is a chest, similar to those at the end of every other cot. Opening it, you find a few changes of uniform. You change, the warmth of clean wool comforting to you. As you settle into your cot for as much shut eye as you can get, the door once more opens. The three from earlier enter, in uniforms similarly dirtied as your previous one was. “Fuck that officer, if he’d kept that gun on me any longer I’d have killed him. I hear you can get away with it if it looks like an accident.” The lead one states, you recognize him as the one who had been delivering most of the kicks. By the way the other two boys behind him talk and act, it seems he is in charge of their group. You: Remain quiet Interject rudely Interject in a joking manner
>>2164761>Remain QuietHear me outI think we should let Seven, the field officer, solve this problem on his own, show others that he can take care of himself. If the three antagonize us, however, I think we should team up and crush them utterly.
>>2164761 Interject rudelyIs that how you earn a officer commission were you are from? Not through skill or merit but by cowardly stabs in the back?
>>2164766He'll probably be dead by then. The are planing on killing him, and don't seem to be joking about it. Seven is clearly looking for allies and people who he may be able to work with to overcome his problem. Its 3 against 1 so the odds are unfairly stacked against him.
>>2164772>Seven is clearly looking for alliesMaybe not "clearly" I have should have used "seems" as it would fit better.
>>2164772>>2164766Sounds like a dick with his two balls compensating for being a bitch in the O course. Now that we know he's their leader we're set to defuse any future situation with one quick strike. If we interject now we risk being identified as a threat to their clique and being targeted.
>>2164772>>2164774While he IS looking for allies, he specifically stated that he is not yet an officer, hence there is nothing he can do. Quote, ">As I’m not an officer yet I can’t really do much about what had happened. It’d look weak."I think the leader was talking about an officer that was on the training course, not Seven.
>>2164776True, but I want to better get a feel for the type of people they are, and if the empire and army would be better off without them. I'd also like network with the other person who seem to have officer like potential like us.
>>2164777>I took one of the few field officer spots allocated to our classSeven is not an officer, he took the role or was assigned one in the field partly due to his higher test scores, the other kids seem to resent him for that, and beat him up. He can't do anything about it at the moment since hes out numbered, and has no authority, and complaining about it to others or an actual offer will make him look weak and unfit to become one.Fairly certain thats the case, someone correct me if I'm wrong plz.
To clarify, as my writing is slipping as the night carries on, the boy who just walked in was talking about an officer on the course. I'll give 10 to change any votes for this clarification.
>>2164783You're right, and I think we should leave the situation alone because if Seven can't actually deal with this himself, he doesn't deserve to be an officer, much less our officer. Is there a difference between field officer and officer, QM?
>>2164761>>2164785 Remain quietWell that changes things.>“Fuck that officer, if he’d kept that gun on me any longer I’d have killed him.So that was not referring to Seven? These boys have a problem with Seven and another officer/training instructor?
>>2164791Field officer being the equivalent to NCO, rankings for german army beingSergeantVizefeldwebelFeldwebelOffizierstellvertreter Feldwebel-Leutnant Officer would be referring to commissioned, which starts with Cadet and goes up to Generalfeldmarshall.
>>2164779I'm completely on board with the betterment of the Empire approach. My experience is when the firing range changes to a two way street people change quickly. These three could turn out to be valua me allies down the road and we run the risk of making enemies of them before we even get to know them.
>>2164791But what if dealing with it involves evening the odds, ie. getting friends to watch his back?Bit of a catch-22 there, we won't help if he can't solve this on his own, but hes trying to do that which requires him to find some backup to "solve it on his own".it means don't bother the instructors with the problem and figure it out on your own without officer help.
As I see it, the vote is to remain quiet. As such I'll be updating based on that.
>>2164796Okay so don't kill them till we see their true mettle on the battlefield. What if they frag Seven before then?>>2164801I think we all want to keep quiet at the moment.
>>2164800I think I know what you mean. In that case, let's wait for him to approach us, see how capable he is as an officer, that is, as a leader. If he enlists for our help, I don't see why we should help him.Maybe we should ask him what his plan is, if he has one.
>>2164803Or that officer. I'm not sure who they want to kill anymore.>>2164804Alright, we'll take a wait and see approach or something like that.
You watch through lidded eyes, trying to get a feel for the situation. To your left in the last cot, Seven is beneath the blanket, clearly sleeping or trying to pretend to do so. The boys who entered shut the door behind them, inanely prattling as they change. They toss their dirty uniforms on top of Seven, laughing as they do so. You expect further action from them, perhaps a repeat of earlier but the course seems to have affected everyone the same. Silence overtakes the barracks, and as you drift off to sleep you hear the faint ticking of the broken watch in your dirty uniform. You fall asleep to the sounds of heavy breathing around you, trying not to stare at the ceiling your eyes had earlier been affixed to. Your dreams are of gore, and flies dancing to the sweet singing of wood nymphs. Millions of wings beat in tune to the singing. You stand knee deep in the shifting mass of viscera and insects, compelled to move with them. The music pulls at the marrow of your very bones. You awake to screaming, and the crackle of fire. You rub your eyes, dim red light filtering through your eyelids. Opening them, you find yourself standing before the woods you had ventured through earlier. To your left, Gerard is burning a cigarette, the dim red like an eye that shifts and glows in the night sky. “I figured you’d be out here. You heard their singing earlier, not unlike them to call for those who do.” Ahead of you, great gouts of flame lick at the trees hundreds of feet away. The night sky lights up with them, embers trying to reach the stars. You watch as small shapes fly high into the sky, little balls of flame that soon fall back to earth. The screaming continues with each burst of fire.“They’d have eaten you. To them it’s the right thing to do. Hundreds of years ago, they’d be the kindest things you could meet. Seems man’s progress and the march of time have changed that.” Gerard sucks in again, exhaling into the air already tainted with burning woodland.“No place left for things like them. Been blown up or burned down already.” Gerard seems almost melancholy as he says this. He looks to you, tossing his cigarette into the mud. Silhouetted by burning woodland, he leans towards you. “Things seem to happen around you Jäger. You’re an excellent soldier, but a hell of a bad luck charm. Best you find a friend, and keep them close. Last thing that someone like you needs is to be alone.” Gerard clasps a hand on your shoulder, and turns you around, pushing you back to the barracks. Do you: Turn around for one last look at the woods Keep walking
>>2164815>Turn around for one last look at the woodsLet's remember the fire. This is the fate of monsters.

>>2164819>>2164823You turn, glancing back at the burning trees again. Gerard let’s you surprisingly, and you watch as one of the tallest pines cracks at the base, smashing down into the ground out of view. You see flames continue to fly into the air, the flame troops clearly unsatisfied with their work. “Will they burn it all down?” Gerard looks at you, the red light dancing over his face.“Oh yes, every inch of it. Once the little shits take hold they stay there until they are killed or move on.”You watch more of the creatures fly high into the sky, burning like a shooting star before falling back to earth. By now, the entire clearing is lit up, the fire consuming more and more of the woods. You can see as if it were daylight. Gerard turns, walking back down the path.“Best hurry Jäger, you’ll be needing your sleep.”You make to leave, but movement catches your eye. A small shape moving from the trees and in your direction. It doesn’t make it far, falling into the mud a few hundred feet away. You: Go to it Leave

The light plays across the ground, dancing like the flies in your dreams. In the mud you see a slight iridescent shimmer. Four wings attached to a tiny body clad in leaves. A few burns cover the back of the creature, and as you watch a face lifts itself weakly from the mud, looking up at you. It’s clearly female, snow white skin dusted with soot and jet black hair. What flowers once adorned it are wilted and dead, missing some of their petals and filled with holes. “Go ahead human, add to the body count your race is so proud of. Burn me like my sisters.”The voice that reaches you is small and harsh, ringing in the night air like shattered glass. Chanigng vote to>Pick it up gently, conceal it in your uniformso we can dispose of it later.
>>2164869>>2164877Same vote with different thought process, interesting. Updating guys!
>>2164867>>2164869>>2164870>snapingfairyhead.webmcannot find the webm, but surely this won't comeback to hurt us right?
>>2164869>>2164877You lift the creature out of the mud, careful not to crush it’s wings or frail form. It thrashes weakly, and you feel pinpricks on your palm as it tries to bite you with whatever energy it has left. You open your breast pocket, gently putting it inside. You feel it shifting and moving, trying to find the right way up. The flap over your breast pocket opens and the little creature peeks its head out, looking up at you confused.“Why didn’t you just kill me...leave me to rot in this stinking mud. Or throw me back into the inferno?” The creature talks of all the ways you could have killed it, before simply falling silent and watching the flames with you. As the inferno reaches its peak, twisting and swirling in the wind, the little thing begins to sing. A song of loss, and pain, and suffering. Punctuated by wails and sobs, you feel as though it was the perfect overture to what would come. And that's it for the night everyone! Thank you for following along and voting. With your help my document is over 50 pages by now! I'm really happy to see discussion and such in the thread over our actions. Our next session will take place Friday December 22nd at 9:00PM EST. As always I'll be posting updates on times and sessions here https://twitter.com/LukaLukaLuuI'll be around for any questions or discussions as per usual before I fall asleep.
>>2164889Thanks for runningHow did you intend for our character to be like? Did our choices match your expectation? Are you trying to tell us something through Gerard, specifically, "Best you find a friend, and keep them close,"?
>>2164889>>2164892are there any friendly monsters or magic creatures aside from werewolves?
>>2164892Originally I expected our character to be much different, but I'm not sure how I would put it. As of now we're an excellent leader that doesn't like to lead or associate with others, that's prone to doing really odd things. I'd say we fit the role of a stressed 15 year old. Surprisingly you guys haven't taken any of my bait other than getting stressed at maggots, cracking our otherwise reserved way of carrying our self. Maybe I am, best not to give my whole hand away. Things have however been getting a little spooky what with the watch demon. >>2164895Yes there are, most of them are in service of some nation or another in some way. Mermaids make good troops at sea.
>>2164897We lead. But you'd better be up to the task of following.Stragglers will be left to die.
>>2164904Not sure I follow anon.
>>2164904I'm fine with taking on less quality troops, need them for the meat grinder so we don't waste good troops. throw them to the meat grinder and give them the suicidal tasks instead.
>>2164906As in we will lead our troops ably but we are not a nurturing or teaching leader. Our troops must already be up to the task of following our lead or learn from the fellows. Useless fodder will be rapidly discarded.
>>2164909I see I see. Spoken like a true commander in WW1.
>>2164897I agree, I found that we're not really a natural leader. We are definitely capable of it, but only lead if forced into the position. That said, >>2164909is correct. We are by no means a kind leader. But I think this is a good thing. To train our men until they collapse so that they are better prepared for war, that is the kind of leader we are. I just wish we, as Anons, were more ambitious. Hopefully, we're just biding our time and grow out of this quiet phase.
>>2164917I think everyone is still feeling out the setting. As we aren't really in do or die situations yet, being only in training I believe people are trying to figure things out. Come our first patrol I'm sure it'll change.
>>2164917We havnt shown a hint of wanting to train men or those beside us though. Didn't even take the time to show our fellows how to use their rifle. We just beat them into submission to follow our orders like in that last exercise.
>>2164917We had our chance to be a leader and have a group of lower soldiers behind us, but other anons didn't want that, and went the loner route.>>2164919This is accurate.
>>2164919>>2164922Maybe that's something we can work on during the next session. Let's try to be a firm, unforgiving, and harsh leader. What we are right now is just an edgy, asocial teen. I know we can mature into something more charismatic, or perhaps brutal.
>>2164919>>2164922Anons do have a soft spot for Ivara and little fairies however.
>>2164924We don't need to be brutal, we can be harsh but fair, and approachable to a degree.I want the men to speak to us on thing that could impact or affect their fighting effectiveness and combat readiness. Remember trench foot is a thing.
>>2164928I don't care about fairies, its drama waiting to happen.
>>2164934Come now anon, surely nothing bad can ever happen in this quest
>>2164932It is an opportunity to change. Thing is I dont see any military leader in our view who actually sees it that way. All of them seem to have a view that an individual soldier be his own best, to hell with the others.Oddly, it might be down to the fairy to be the cause for change. Whispering to him to do things another way.
>>2164937We grew up from the gutter to the barracks, in the past these people would have been the ideal fertile ground for revolution and change, or seeing things differently than the stagnant upper crust of society. The fairy could help but only if it doesn't try to kill us in our sleep or get others in our squad killed.
>>2163822I just came here to lament that I won't get to use this.
>>2165123No Nazis here. No sir.You might find some closet monarchist but thats about it.
>>2165132The French were close enough to count.
>>2165368>>2165132Uh.. England has monarchs too.
>>2165123The BAR was in service by 1918, but there are no Nazis.
>>2165875Is there a place I can read the first issue? I tried googling it, but can't seem to find it. Did you not archive it?
>>2165460Is zis english land, you limey. /kraut
>>2166090I'll be honest anon I don't know how to archive. I can give you a viewable copy of my doc however

First thread now archived!
>>2167064What do Sturmtroppen actual do, and what happened to the new world
>>2167246Sturmtruppen, or storm troopers where the first usage of assault troops. Their purpose was to break trench lines, rushing in with automatics and grenades.
>>2167351As well as they, their usage of infiltration tactics is still in use today.
>>2167351You know, I figured the Fae would still be good friends with the Germans. Then again, I didn't see the last thread.
>>2167351Strosstruppen!There's a movie you can easily go watch on YouTube, it's called strosstrupp 1917
Finally caught up with the quest and I'm loving it so far.Question for the QM though, how do Jaegers and Storm troopers compare? And discussing plans with the other Anons, we should definately keep our eyes on seven right since the terrible three might actually kill him? He seems useless right now but since he's a named character then he'll probably have something important with him. And if he does turn out to be useless we can always throw him to the wolves
>>2167501Jaeger's as they originally were before and at during WW1 were termed light infantry. Usually they constituted scouts, sharpshooters, runners, and other similar occupations. Had we gone the Jaeger route we'd be doing a lot more sharpshooting and scouting ahead. Where as a Storm trooper will have us being in the thick of it.>>2167427First thread can be found here! http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2142928/>>2167464I'll try to do that before the session tomorrow anon thanks for the recommendation.
>>2167427I think it's mostly just because this war is so fucked up that and the fae keep getting screwed over as collateral damage. Not to mention any implication at the start of the war of soldiers trapped on the frontline for months or years surrounded by otherworldy beautiful women. I mean people already eat people on a daily basis and treat women like prize animals so there's bound to be some moral dissonance.
>>2167508Ahh, I figured they were both elite infantry but I wasn't completely sure how they were different since most of the units I just heard from company of heroes
>>2167513Even at the mention of that game I have so many memories.
>>2167508I saw the mention of "soul lamps" are you using the anime/manga Pumpkin Scissors as inspiration because I think that idea of anti-tank infantry is so kickass
>>2167924I hadn't heard of pumpkin scissors. In my head I thought of the soul lamps more like Ragnite from Valkyria Chronicles, but with the differences that would come with actual souls. I also agree anti tank infantry is badass, there will be some.
>>2168010It's not in the way you think, it's these soldiers that have lamps that make them into sociopaths that can't feel pain and then they walk up to tanks and fire these absolutely gigantic pistols into the view port
>>2168722I'd say mindless automatons whose sole purpose is tank destruction is a more apt description
>>2168756Yeah,my favorite was the flammenwerfer who couldn't get out of his suit without his skin melting that seems like something that would fit right in in this setting
>>2168824>>2168756>>2168722Definitely going to give this a read when I can.
“Wake the fuck up maggots. War doesn’t wait for you to be well rested. On your fucking feet”You can’t have slept more much than an hour, the light coming in through the windows still a dull black mottled with the flames of the forest. In fact, you don’t even remember making it back to the barracks. You roll out of your cot, smelling of smoke and exhaustion. As you pull your jacket on, you feel a weight shift slightly in your breast pocket. The tip of a wing pokes from under the flap, before moving back out of sight. Around you, the rest of the barracks stir slowly. Seven sits up silently, straightening his uniform and standing at the foot of his cot. The boy who seemed to lead the group of the others grumbled, staring at the officer by the door with a cold hatred. The man at the door scowls.“Out on the parade ground within two. Miss it by even a heartbeat and you’ll be made an example of.” A quiet sentence emanates from your breast pocket, loud enough to hear but not loud enough to understand. The officer by the door perks up, having heard it too. “Did you fucking say something 6174? Why don’t you share it?”You respond with: I didn’t say anything, sir (write-in)Sorry for the wait everyone! Holidays in retail are suffering
>>2169273> (write-in)"Herr! I was just excited to begin training. My apologies for my unsightly outburst!"Jostle the pocket later when out of sight.

>>2169341Oh he already set his mind the moment he stepped in the room he was going to pull something like this. Regardless of our response he's going to single us out as the reason for the next part of training.
>>2169358True. Either way we're in for it and we need to let the fairy know to keep it down.
>>2169298>>2169314>>2169325“Sir, just stating I was excited to begin training sir! Apologies for such an outburst sir but I can hardly contain my excitement!” You snap a crisp salute, making sure to jostle your breast pocket as you do which silences the snickers with a barely audible “Achhhh”.The officer stalks towards you slowly, squinting at you so hard you’re afraid his right eye will pop from its socket and strike you down. You wither under his gaze slightly, before staring him down. “6174, you will proceed to do one hundred push-ups right here. You will then do another hundred for being late for the parade grounds. The officers there will decide your further punishment. As you are so excited for training, I’ll make sure you have your fill today. You aren’t to speak a word for the rest of the day.”You nod once, not wishing to further your punishment. The others file out of the barracks past you as you drop to the ground beginning your first set of push-ups. The officer watches you intently, counting aloud with you as well as looking at his pocket watch. By the time you finish you are nearly five minutes late, and your arms already burn with the exertion. As you march to the parade ground, the officer behind you screaming at the top of his lungs you glance to the woods which still smolder with embers. The other boys are lined up in formation, a thousand heads watching your approach. Gerard stands at front of the parade ground atop a wooden platform. “Finally decided to join us 6174? For someone so excited you sure aren’t on time.”You remain silent, standing away from the others, the officer behind you boring holes in the back of your head with his gaze. “Whether by your intention or not you’ve drawn our attention to you, and made our day start late. The rest of the troops will be suffering for your mistake, and you will doubly so. For each exercise they perform you will do it twice. You will not rest today, you will not sleep, and you will not eat. Now get in line.”You move next to those you share a room with, all but Seven staring at you with hatred. A foot finds itself in your path, and you find yourself sprawled onto the parade ground, bloodying your face. You: Stand and silently move to your place Find who it was
>>2169409 Find who it wasWe will give him a late night sock party.
>>2169409> Stand and silently move to your place

>>2169427>>2169428>>2169433>>2169434>>2169436>>2169442You stand, rubbing the blood from your face. Making sure to not make an expression you move to your place and stand still. From within your breast pocket you feel movement, which is slightly comforting. You were worried the fairy had been hurt in your fall. Your right eye begins to burn, the cut on your forehead dripping into your eye.You wipe it again, blinking away the red film and look up at Gerard.“Now that everyone is here, we’ll begin. Yesterday’s performance was absolutely pathetic. Do you know why? Because you worked alone, and not as a team. Your brothers around you are what will separate you from dying in a trench alone, and dying on the field of battle as a soldier should.”Gerard makes to continue, but is cut short by an officer who approaches, looking quite concerned as he struggles to breath. The man leans into Gerard’s left ear, whispering something. Gerard pales slightly before recovering. His brow creases slightly as he runs a hand overtop his scarred head, before looking out to the crowd.“A change of plans everybody. There’s no exercise better than on the job training. Sections A through F report to the armory, G-M to the exercise field, and the Sturmtruppen candidates to the officer’s hall. Consider yourself soldiers.”Gerard turns from the stage, fastening his greatcoat and walking briskly towards the train station. The officers fill his place, shouting orders over one another as the gathered boys begin to move to their designated areas. You: Approach an officer, try to figure out what is happening Move officer’s hall quickly

We don't want to fight everyone. Move officer’s hall quicklyWe can rub a few braincells together to figure out whats up. Rapid training finish, all of us considered soldiers now, giving out weapons...
>>2169515Lol also this, good catch man.
>>2169503 Move officer’s hall quickly
If we're given instructions to lead squads and they ask if there are any further questions, I suggest we raise our arm and just stay silent until they rescind our command to not talk. Can't lead if we cant talk.
>>2169529No sweat, chummer.
Sorry for the wait guys I have family over! Still writing
>>2169606Good luck man.
Sorry for the wait guys, shouldn't happen again. You move quickly, watching as those around you disperse and move to their designated locations. The three from your barracks move towards the armory. Seven follows you to the officer hall. He doesn’t strike you as a Sturmtruppen field officer, but if what he says is true he clearly has some quality you’ve missed. You find yourself jogging with people you haven’t seen before, or only in passing. There is only twenty of you at best.“Well done this morning 6174, I always love to start my day with everyone trying to crawl up my ass.” The boy to your left says. His blonde hair is shaggy, swaying in front of his face with each step. The number across his lapel reads 3997. How do you respond?
>>2169656By doing what we were told and remaining silent
>>2169656Give him a quick salute just to fuck with him
>>2169656>Shrug and give a thumbs upThis fucking fae with us is gonna die.

Seriously though what the hell are we going to do with the Fae and why did we even take them in the first place?

>>2169729Might be useful as a scout but we're risking soo much keeping them. It kind of seems slightly out of character but like seven I reserve my judgment on tossing her away depending on how useful they make themselves.
>>2169729It most likely never had to wake up so early on before, So that was our fault. As for laughing at us, I'd fucking laugh too.>>2169706The Fae should be useful at some point.
>>2169752>So that was our faultHow?>I'd fucking laugh too. Why?
>>2169760>It most likely never had to wake up so early on beforeWe gave no warning and It most likely never had interacts before.
>>2169752Yeah you can't really say much to support the Fae right now especially since they would have probably dicked us over if we went out to the forest and we're sticking our neck out for her. Start defending them IF they actually do anything useful
>>2169707You stare at him before shrugging silently. He laughs under his breath before looking forward towards the approaching building. Outside it stands the officer who had woke you, looking at you with a hint of a smile. “All of you inside, and quickly. I don’t expect any smart remarks from anyone either.”The officer ushers you in, standing by the door a few moments, waiting for anyone else to approach. Satisfied that the last of you are in, he closes the entrance to the officer hall. Rows of weapons you haven’t seen before line the wall, and by the way they’ve been haphazardly strewn about you can tell they were placed very recently. “Uniforms are on the table. As we weren’t expecting your graduation for another few weeks there are no names on them. Pin your number to them for now.”The officer looks at the group expectantly, and seeing the inaction reacts accordingly.“Move! You call yourselves Sturmtruppen? You don’t storm the lines by standing slack jawed!”You and the others move towards the tables, changing quickly. The loose wool uniforms you had on traded for a well fitted, patterned uniform. The threads are a mixture of black and gray providing it a mottled hazy look. You hook your fingers under the steel helmet, setting it on your head and fastening the straps. The weight is unfamiliar but you soon forget you even have it on. “Congratulations, you can change your clothes. Now pick a weapon. Parity of ammunition should be considered but is not a priority. Right now we just need you in the field.”Which weapon do you choose? The familiar EG-37. A 9.8mm toggle lock semi automatic, it is the standard issue weapon of the German Empire. Finding ammunition shouldn’t be difficult, though you can imagine its length to be rather unwieldy in a trench. One of the rather bulky weapons sitting inside the case on the farthest table. They look to be some sort of rotary magazine fed shotgun. The bore is massive, and the vented shroud looks menacing. The shells seem like they would take up some space though. The box closest to you has an interesting looking rifle. A magazine juts out from the right side, concealing what look to be the same rounds as the EG-37. Shouldering it feels good, the metal and wood construction feeling weighty in your hands. You notice an odd switch on the side that moves 180 degrees.

It is! Rifle here we come
You grab one of the rifles in front of you, noticing a soft cooing noise from your breast pocket. You look down, the fairy inside ogling the weapon in your hand. Softly, soft enough for only you to hear, she speaks.“Let me touch it. It's so pretty”You draw the rifle up to your chest in a low ready, a tiny hand rubbing along the receiver before retreating into your pocket. It strikes you, that you don’t even know the name of the creature. You make a note to ask later, when you’re alone and able. You spend the next moments familiarizing yourself with the rifle. The switch moves between three positions, one of which has a marking for automatic which surprises you. Automatic weapons were rarely given out, the only common ones being emplaced machine guns. You run your hands over the gun, feeling a click under your forefinger and a slight tug brings the magazine loose. One of the officers from nearby approaches the few of you that have picked up the rifle. “You’re currently holding the most cutting edge weapon we can field. Years of development have allowed us to produce a select fire weapon, allowing for the accuracy of the EG-37 and the suppressive capabilities of the Super Maxim. Chambered for the same 9.8mm Imperial as the EG-37, we’ve designated it Angriff-KruppGewehr 9.8. AKG98 for short.”You gather a few of the magazines out of the case, thumbing rounds into them as the officer that had stood by the door moves to a podium at the front of the room. “Attention all soldiers of Sturmtruppen Unit 559. We’ve received...concerning reports. Intelligence has been picking up murmur of a joint assault, though we didn’t expect it to happen for another few months. Imagine High Commands surprise then when late last night the French and British started a massive assault along the Somme line. That usually wouldn’t be much a problem, had it not been for the American air assault. It seems they’ve dropped units behind our lines, far behind. We can’t spare the men to deal with them while also holding down the trenches.”The room is silent, each pair of eyes fixed on the officer as what he says begins to sink in.“As such, every training unit is being deployed in reserve. As Sturmtruppen, you are the best we can offer from our class. You’ll be acting as hunter-killers. Search out these air troops and destroy them. Be aware we’ve had reports of the American’s employing Harpies to assist them.”Incredulous, you look at those around you who likewise stare in disbelief. You’ve barely finished a day of training and already are to be pushed into combat. “As the one showing the most aptitude for command, Soldat 7372 is hereby designated Unteroffizer as per his graduation papers. This will be a trial by fire for you all. Come out alive and consider yourselves officially trained. Any questions? You’re all free to speak.”Too many characters, will post vote options in just a moment.

You stand, saluting the officer. “Sir, what are the responsibilities and authority given to 7372, and how many are we expected to be dealing with?”The officer nods at you once, before addressing the group. “In order, 7372 will have authority over you all. His responsibility is to complete the mission while retaining combat effectiveness of the unit. As you are outranked, and he will be acting officer, you are to ask how high when he states jump. A unit lives or dies on its trust in each other and their officer. As for how many enemy troops, an exact number is unknown. At least one full Army. It seems the Americans have put everything into this gamble. If we can repulse this attack we can expect little resistance from them during Reichbrecher. Any further questions?”You stand again, sliding in a magazine with a satisfying click as you do. “What is a Harpy and how do we kill them?”“Full of questions today 6174. At least they’re good ones. A harpy is a demi-human, much like mermaids the British employ at sea. They’re part human, part animal. It seems the Americans picked one that would help support such an attack they’ve carried out. Imagine a human sized fighter plane, that’s about what you’ll be dealing with. Depending on the species they might be incredibly fast and agile. Most likely they’ll be used as scouts. As they’re nothing more than a female with bird wings they’ll die to a well placed round or two.”Sitting down, you hear whispers from in your breast pocket.“Watch for the talons, they can rip your arms from the sockets and flay the skin from your bones with ease.”The image of a massive bird person yanking your arms off your body isn’t a pretty one, and you shudder slightly. The others around you seem content with the information given and ask no questions of their own. “Right, 7372 will be briefed further. The rest of you finish gearing and head to the waiting trucks outside.”You have a chance to grab any three items and put them into your pack or on your person: A khaki load bearing rig for easier storage of magazines A rather vicious looking shovel Extra water and rations One of the weapons you didn’t choose earlier and ammunition for it to be put in your pack A sidearm (Further choices will be given if it is voted for) A bag that looks to hold explosives A dull grey greatcoat, will help conceal you, keep you warm, and look fashionable as hell A gas mask
>>2169979>>2169980........... I'm asking if that condition has changed since we spoke, so either way we may get in trouble afterwards in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, or maybe the officer will make an exception for the circumstances. Will probably punish us just because anyways.
>>2170000The officer did clear everyone to speak
>>2169995>Shovel>Greatcoat>RationsLet's do this
>>2169995 A rather vicious looking shovel Extra water and rations A bag that looks to hold explosives
Can we look into the bag that is supposedly holding explosives?
>>2169995> A gas maskIs the most important A khaki load bearing rig for easier storage of magazinesThese will let us continue laying heavy suppressive and offensive fire A dull grey greatcoat, will help conceal you, keep you warm, and look fashionable as hellOr A sidearm (Further choices will be given if it is voted for)I dunno.>>I really want the bag of explosives but we have no training in using them and are likely to be useless against fast moving infantry like the Airborne
>>2169995> A gas mask> A khaki load bearing rig for easier storage of magazines> A dull grey greatcoat, will help conceal you, keep you warm, and look fashionable as hellWater might actually be a problem if we stay out there for too long but then again we can just start eating Harpies and Americans
>>2170003Allow me to explain my choices>ShovelAlways useful to have a multipurpose tool on hand as a soldier. Allows us to dig foxholes and entrench ourselves. Also doubles as a melee weapon, though I don't know how effective that will be, as A. Harpies can gut us with their claws, apparently, and B. The Americans are probably grown men and can overpower us.>GreatcoatProtection is always useful. Warmth is also useful. However, camo can allow us to hide from Harpy scouts, though its effectiveness is questionable. If anything, we can snipe them from cover with the Greatcoat.>RationsAlways good to have extra food. An army fights on its stomach. Can also share it to get brownie points with other people. Clean water is also incredibly hard to come by. Would be trouble if animals or ghouls find us though. Please offer reasons why I should change my options.
>>2169995 A dull grey greatcoat, will help conceal you, keep you warm, and look fashionable as hell A gas mask A rather vicious looking shovel
>>2170030Makes sense. I will support your proposal.
>>2170030I'd rather have a gasmask or a load bearing kit over a greycoat, it can get in the way, it will soak up the water and muck, making it heavier, will be in the way if we get the load bearing rig, and can drag us down if we fall into the wrong muddle hole, and drown. We can camo by going Arnold Schwarzenegger in predator.I agree with the shovel and the ration, we can loot ammo from the dead, and shovel can help us make a silent kill, or help with the harpies which seem melee oriented.
Writing for:Shovel, Greatcoat, Gas Mask as I count it. Someone please correct if I miscounted
Load Bearing Khaki isn't going to win so I'm changing my Khaki vote to Shovel if it means rations lose.
>>2170035If what the Fae was saying is correct then going into Melee with the Harpies is a death sentence.
>>2170035You raise a very good point. The greatcoat does seem like a burden. Switching Greatcoat to explosives.
>>2170041Why would we try to then? We want the shovel for its utility and the potential to save us, stop acting so defeatists or you get the bullet for cowardice, swine!>>2170043that makes it a tie for others, I'd say if not bag, then go for ammo rig.
>>2170051Good point. I also just saw >>2170014His reasoning for not taking explosives is sensible.Changing explosives to khaki load.
>>2170038>>2170043I'd switch to ammo rig from bomb bag if it means greycoat loses tho lol.>>2170061Kay, this is mine>>2170005I'll keep 2 and 3, changing 6 to ammo rig.
Wew alright recounting give me a moment, someone else make a count to double check me please
>>2170051I know. I'm not being defeatist just pointing out it's probably better to NOT engage bird ladies with razor sharp class in Melee. I'm also ok with the shovel honestly
>>2170038dude switch back to ammo rig man, it can win!I want to point out that if we do take charge and become an officer, we will be able to get a even better trench coat, which I am counting on.
>>2170068I was just throwing in some larp there anon, and yes I agree harpie footjob sex is very overrated and horrible.
>>2170068It isn't, we definitely shouldn't seek to engage Harpies in melee, but it's always good to have something that won't jam or fail on you during a critical situation. Also, I'm sure that with our primary, we can spray and pray our worries away, and with extra ammo, we shouldn't be too worried about running dry.
>>2170069Right we could probably get a better coat once we become officersChanging>>2170014to>>>>>2170075Again I'm cool with the Shovel it's just that we should use it as a last resort. If we really want to do death or glory charges then we should get proper equipment melee once we rise up
>>2170073>overratedThere's barely any!As of now no more vote changes. Trying to count this out is confusing
Alright, shovel, gas mask, and it looks to be a tie between Greatcoat and LBK. Am I correct? If so vote between Greatcoat and LBK please.
>>2170099Is that a Rations for LBK I hear? What even is LBK, It's the Rig right?
>>2170090LBKalso I'm deeply disappointed a sidearm wasn't voted because who the hell goes to a warzone without a backup?
>>2170105The rig yes.
>>2170105Yea, if ration isn't going to win, I'll go for LBK.Yes, LBK=Light Bag; Khaki (I think)
>>2170090 A khaki load bearing rig12345 A rather vicious looking shovel123456 Extra water and rations123 A dull grey greatcoat,1234 A gas mask1234>>2170034This guy supported this guys >>2170030 old options so I counted greycoat.I vote LBK Ammo rig?
>>2170090>>2170114I probably miscounted but it should be a tie between gas mask and coat?
>>2170106Hopefully we can loot something nice from the Americans later.>>2170111Now that that's done what're the rules for looting shit. I know it's probably incredibly out of character but I've got an itch to loot harder than an Ork Loota
>>2170112Load Bearing Khaki, LBK. >>2170114You're a literal godsend. As I'm not rewriting it again, we'll go Shovel, Rig, Gas mask. Thank you so fucking much anon. Sorry for the wait guys that was much harder to get sorted then I thought. >>2170120There will be options to loot.
>>2170122Hey man, People like their Toys and you've got to make sure you've picked the right ones.
>>2170120Considering it's WW1 continued I'm pretty sure it falls under "trophies" aka the armory won't maintain your unissued shit but you're free to use whatever you find and are willing to use.
>>2170122Lol sorry about that QM, powergaming habit dies hard.
You guys are quite alright! It's nice to see everyone discuss and figure out optimal configurations. It's fun to write for.
You pull on the straps of the khaki rig, placing your magazines in the pouches and grabbing a few more for your pockets. Lifting up a gas mask you clip it to the front of your uniform, the dull shape reminding you of what Ivara would be wearing. You briefly wonder if she too is being sent out to fight. Finally, you pick up the wooden handle of a shovel that looks like it was designed for killing rather than digging. The head of it is serrated on one side, and the other is clearly sharpened to a razor’s edge even under the dull coat of gray paint. You twirl it once, feeling out the weight before slipping it inside the leather cover and onto the right side of your rig. The great coat hanging on the rack calls to you, but you feel as though you have enough. Turning, you step outside the building and find yourself alone for once as you journey towards the trucks. You: Ask the fairy something (Write-in) Just get to the truckShort update so we can have another vote after that lengthy counting
>>2170122I had to redo that count 3 times, and I'm still not %100 sure, gonna do a 4th one just to be through, but continue on.Would they use gas on behind the enemy lines mixed in with their own troops like that?
>>2170135 Just get to the truck. The damn fairy will give us advice if we need it.Yo QM! I finally managed to get to a live session of this. Love the setting so far.Giving me inspirations for my ww1 campaign.
>>2170135 Ask the fairy something (Write-in)>How well do you fair in gas attacks? We don't have a tiny gasmask for her now do we?
>>2170135Pluck the fairy's wing for getting you in trouble with the officer
>>2170135> Just get to the truck
>>2170141Good to see you here! Glad you're enjoying it anon.
>>2170135>Ask the fairy something (Write-in)Her name, and what she knows about harpies
>>2170143No tiny gasmask. But if you find a sewing kit you can make her a little uniform
>>2170158>Her nameOh yeah, forgot that, this too.
>>2170135> Ask the fairy something (Write-in)First establish that we're in charge here and that we're sticking our heads out keeping her alive. Keep things civil and let a few jokes pass but retain authority
>>2170164And Just in case ask if she has any other Info on Harpies and Americans
She better be named Navi I sware on me mum.
>>2170164Dammit I was just about to write most of those
Updating to ask fairy about her name, establish dominance, gas mask, and harpies
>>2170135backing this >>2170164
>>2170164>>2170182>>2170203We don't need to establish dominance, we are dominant, fairfu is submissive.
>>2170220Mostly I just want to warn her about getting us in trouble again and the fact that we'd probably be executed if officers found out to make her feel guilty.
You look down at your breast pocket, lifting up the little fold and looking in. You’re greeted with an inquisitive look from the little creature, and a bit of distrust. You stare at each other for a moment, letting the silence hold for a time. “Yes human? Are you just going to stare? You’ll look odd just looking inside your pocket while you walk.”You close the pocket, cutting her off from any further remarks. She seems to take offense to this, popping her head out and looking up at you. She seems about to speak, but you cut her off.“I could have killed you. I don’t know why I didn’t. I guess I felt bad, or just saw no reason to do so. I could have killed you and I didn’t. That means you live by my choice right now. I shelter you, and hide you from those who would gladly do what I didn’t. They’d pull your wings off and snap your neck. So instead of getting me in trouble with officers you could help me instead.”The little woman’s brow furrows, before falling silent. When she does speak up, her voice is quiet and reserved.“I was trying to thank you. For letting me live, showing compassion.”It’s now your turn to furrow a brow. You expected her to be doing what she had done with poor intentions, not to thank you. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, you speak to break the silence.“What’s your name fairy?” “Nixie. My name is Nixie.”You nod, asking the few questions that come to mind.“Any information on harpies, and how do you deal with gas and the like?”She scratches her head, as if trying to pull up her thoughts with the very action.“Mmmm, nothing more on Harpies. The man who told you about them knows as much as I do. They’ve never been a part of this area much. On that horrible sick air that you use against each other, I’d have to fly above it. If you could give me a warning that’d be nice.”Satisfied, you continue walking to the trucks. Ahead of you, two six wheeled vehicles sit idling. The grills on either side of the engine help conceal the dim glow you know of as soul lamps you had seen aboard the train. Which do you board? The front one The rear one
>>2170231> The front oneI'm mildly amused that you've started calling them Soul Lamps just because of my fuckup earlier.
>>2170241Did I? What was your fuckup?
>>2170241SupportingWhat fuckup? And why are you choosing the front?
>>2170231> Rear one.Fucking going at the front of the convey dude. That's how you get hit by a landmine/bazooka
>>2170231 The rear oneLess likely to run over mines or get hit first right?>>2170243Is someone in trouble?
>>2170231 The front oneQuickly ask her what if she hides in our gas mask in an emergency.

>>2170231> The rear oneI'd rather not get hit with a land mine, Yeah?
>>2170231 The front one
>>2170251Ahh, so you're right. To be honest lamp sounds better, and flows better in writing. I didn't even notice I wrote it that way.
>>2170254Changing my vote to this>>2170255
>>2170246>>2170248>>2170255I doubt the Americans had time to set up landmines. Also, I figured the brave and daring would sit in the front. Good chance to get to know people who are willing to die. Or maybe the front is occupied by a bunch of dummies, but you don't make it this far by being dumb.
>>2170231> The rear oneIt's always the front line getting fucked over first. By the time your ears stop ringing and you can crawl out of the wreck, you're getting heavy fire rained down on you while your back up has their dick in their hands not knowing what the fuck is going on or what to do
>>2170262The Americans probably have some sort of anti-vehicular weapon though.
>>2170231> The rear one
>>2170266Probably.Damn! And I was hoping to be brave and fearless, but soldiers don't survive wars by being the first to charge. Changing front to back
>>2170266Yup, They'll likely have Bazookas since I'm pretty sure these are THE AIRBORNE. Those guys specialize in sowing chaos in the back lines so I wouldn't rule out land mines either.
Updating for the rear one.
>inb4 we end us as an undead sturmtruppen
You walk towards the rear truck, the whine of the engine sounding suspiciously like a constant high pitched screaming. The wheels of the vehicle come above your waist, and before you pull yourself into the vehicle you think to ask Nixie a question. “Could you hide in my gas mask? In the event of gas?”You don’t need to see her face to hear the confusion.“Are you saying I should press myself against your face inside a mask? Odd idea there buddy.” “Well, would it work? If we had to?”“I guess it might, I’d rather not need to try.”You pull yourself up into the vehicle with the end of the conversation, moving to the back right bench. As time passes more and more of the Sturmtruppen pull themselves into the vehicle, placing their weapon between their legs and staring down at the floor. Speech doesn’t accompany the waiting, rather the only companion is the low screams of the engine. You: Double check your gear Ask a question of a troop inside (write-in)
>>2170303 Double check your gear
>>2170303 Double check your gearLet's double check our shit, make sure nothing is loosey goosey. How many mags do we have? Any loose ammo?
>>2170303> Double check your gear
>>2170303 Ask a question of a troop inside (write-in)What kind of equipment did you guys pick out from the armory?
>>2170311>>2170313Supporting these two
Going with double checking!
>>2170277>Us searching for Ivanka
>>2170346I mean, I don't really know if we want Donald Trumps sloppy seconds especially since we already have a hot, penal battalion, red head, childhood friend waiting for us
>>2170346I second this.If we can learn how to make her undead as well, we gud bois.
You reach down to your rig, pulling on it at different critical places. Had you not checked it, you would have missed the loose loop that could have unraveled the entire thing. You count out your mags, checking each of them before slipping them back into the pockets. You have eight magazines with twenty rounds each. If you count the one in the gun that brings you to nine. Having double checked your gear you wait patiently for the truck to fill, and it doesn’t take more than a few minutes for everyone to have caught up. You spot a couple of the troops who brought the rifle you did, though most of them have the EG-37. One particularly brawny guy has the shotgun, which he lovingly caresses. All told there are eleven of you in the vehicle, not counting the driver and Seven who sits in the passenger seat. Before long you begin to lurch forward, driving out from the camp and onto the muddied road. You understand now why the tires were so large as the vehicle sinks nearly a foot into the ground, the engine quite literally screaming. No one speaks much, a grim silence having settled over the vehicle. From what little you can see outside the canvas flap, the sky is a deep gray. You aren’t sure what time it is, unsure of whether the sun has even risen yet or if the smog of war is too thick for it to shine through. In the distance, the incessant sound of artillery barrage drums the earth. By your estimation the camp had been inside german borders and not on what had been French ground like the town you grew up in. To call even your unit out must mean the American’s had come far into the country. As the vehicle moves forward an odd feeling overtakes you, one that feels familiar to you. You recall sitting in your shack, listening to the Trench Ghuls howl as they hunt about the town on nights they broke through. Watching and waiting for an open door. You lift your rifle to a ready position as you realize you’re being watched. You: Pound on the back of the cab Ask if any of the others feel as you do Check outside the flap
>>2170375 Pound on the back of the cab Check outside the flap
>>2170375 Check outside the flapActions, not words have gotten us to where we are now.Let's blast some poor motherfuckers.
>>2170375 Ask if any of the others feel as you do Check outside the flapIf they do, get them to pound while we check outside.
>>2170375 Ask if any of the others feel as you do Check outside the flapBest not to distract the Driver and to Warn everybody else
>>2170390> Ask if any of the others feel as you do>> Check outside the flap
Updating for flap check and asking the others.
>>2170375 Ask if any of the others feel as you doHarpy scouts?
You look around at the others, looking for a sign they feel similarly to you. The large one with the shotgun has the look of someone on edge, glancing about the cabin with his shotgun at the ready. “You feel it too? We’re being watched.”The boy nods at you thrice, then looks to his weapon, cycling the rotary magazine and chambering a shell with an extremely satisfying “SHOONK”. The other boys look at the two of you, checking their weapons as well. The sounds of rifles chambering rounds and bolts being cycled fills the truck for a moment. As soon as it ends however, the only sound left is the engine’s noise. You stand carefully in the moving vehicle, crouching to the back flap and opening it. The grey sky shines its dim light into the back of the truck as you scour the area. As far as you can see the cratered landscape is nothing but stumps of trees and massive shell holes filled with a greenish-brown water. Satisfied, you nearly return to the inside of the vehicle before remembering the briefing. You turn back, dangling your upper half out the vehicle to look in the sky. A brown and white shape wheels in the sky, and as you try to raise your weapon it dives overtop your vehicle. The ensuing shockwave and burst of heat from the truck in front of you detonating throws you from the back of your vehicle. You pull your rifle tight, twisting in the air to land on your back so you don’t crush Nixie. You have enough time to think about how beautiful the sun breaking through the clouds was before you bounce off the ground once, twice, the third time knocking your vision black as unconsciousness claims you.And that's it for this session guys! I'd like to run longer but I'm working an early shift tomorrow. To make it up however, next session will be at 8:00PM on December 24th! I'll be running as long as I can go on Christmas eve for any who wish to take part. As always I'll be around to answer questions and discuss for a bit, and I'll tweet about updates here: https://twitter.com/LukaLukaLuu
>>2170439No Christmas truce, and soccer over minefields and cratered dirt on no mans land??
>>2170439Did that harpy just kamikazi us?I thought we were fighting Americans, not Japs.
>>2170440The Christmas truce only happened once sadly. Generals weren't much a fan.>>2170442She dropped an explosive on the other truck, apologies for the confusion.
>>2170444No, your text is fine, its my reading comprehension that's lacking.Would it have made a difference if we were in the front?
>>2170449Yes it would have, Nixie would have died and we would have been quite injured and with a broken weapon.
>>2170450Oh shit, I'll try not to be so gung ho next time then. Thanks for running QM, see you Christmas Eve.
>>2170455See you then! Thanks for participating.
>>2170461I like this new style of QMing that's been coming to /qst recently. Less reliant on dice rolls and more on people not being retarded
>>2170444I thought we got hit by a magic ball of explodey magic stuff.>>2170455There is a time and place for that type of attitude. Like Rommel or Patton.>>2170450Did both vehicles get hit, or just the first one and the bomb was powerful enough, and we were close enough together that both vehicles got hit?
>>2170466It takes a lot of planned and effort to do that instead of freestyle chance. Makes it more narrative driven.
>>2170467Bit of both on the explosion front. >>2170466I feel like dice rolls really take the fun out of QMing. Granted I've never done a quest before but I know that when I play tabletop games, though dice can have really good moments they also bring with them a lot of bad. Hey you want to do this sweet thing that would make sense in narrative but see if luck is on your side first. I love them and hate them, but I love writing too much to let them take away my plans. I have a huge grid of planned choices and results for this and I would hate for all that to go to waste because of a dice roll.
>>2170473Yep, Mostly for me I like it because a few good rolls make Anons so fucking retarded. Once their luck runs out they keep trying to slam their heads into the problem hoping for another AMAZING ROLL even though it's screwing them and supporting characters over.
>>2170473Well I love playing cyoa's on tg so this is fine with me, I think for more narrative driven stories, if you incorporate dice, it should only have a light influence rather than say mess up an nearly impossible thing to mess up.
>>2170473You should check out Keith Thompson Art he's a pretty good artist that drew illustrations for an alt history first world war>Pick related somewhat
>>2170358We should find a horse to find her faster
>>2170481I agree. I had toyed with the idea of dice, but I feel like it makes anons think more critically about their actions and especially any previous information given if it's a simple response rather than a dice roll for an action. Is the character clearly fatigued? Might be best to not try to perform a tightrope act. As predicted by anons earlier, though it wasn't a mine, the lead vehicle usually gets blown up. >>2170486I'll check it out anon! From what you post I really like it. That's the one thing I wish I could do is have some art for this. Maybe after the holidays I'll commission some stuff on equipment and characters. I want my toggle lock rifle to be a reality.
>>2170486>>2170489>>2170492Was saving this for later but may as well post it now.Hope you can incorporate some of this. I want C. E. F. and G.
>>2170492One for the Yankees.
>>2170500I promise you, there will at least be a Luger.
>>2170501It bothers me a little that they're trying to draw parallels between the south and Germans even though they're more like the French
Before I go, for anyone still here I have a question. Why the Germans over any of the other options given for birthplace?
>>2170515How? Because they used some German weaponry?
>>2170519My raging hard on for toggle lock mechanisms wouldn't let me ignore it.
>>2170518>playing as a commie
>>2170518They can be seen as the underdogs perhaps?Everything ww1&2 is often from the view of the allies, which has been done there and back to death, and many times over that its boring now. Most of us live in the west with a fascination of another aspect of a often poorly taught about and sometimes poorly understood side of history, filled with misconceptions of the other side (propaganda played a part in this). All the call of duty games? There is probably a few other reasons but these are my guesses.I also missed the first few votes but I would have voted for the option that won anyways.
>>2170518I would've personally preferred an Italian for maximum crazy Arditi exploits, but the tide of anon opinion seemed to lean German already.Would other nations had roughly similar settings to this (mud, blood and horrors) or different twists?
>>2170534The French would have been very similar, along with the British. Italian would have been crazy Arditi exploits for sure. America would have been really interesting as they're rather isolated with the only combat taking place overseas and on the southern border. Russia would have subtracted the mud for snow. Horrors would be based on location however and were mentioned briefly in each. >>2170529Thanks for the input anon. I agree we haven't seen a lot of the other side of history. As an absolute nut for military history I believe that neither side was the "good" side in WW1. Both had national goals that were respectable, though I mostly lean towards Germany being correct in their actions.
>>2170542Are there still noble houses around or is the traditional marriage system completely dissolved? Also are the monarchies of the other countries still around or gone like that of Imperial Germany.
>>2170522And the grey uniforms with the German style caps, and the name assault trooper instead of something more American
>>2170546Russia still retains its monarchy, as does Britain. Marriage has in fact completely dissolved. Women upon coming of age are used as breeding stock, which in Germany is seen as a noble and patriotic action. Women who are Barren are sent to units comprised only of other Barren women, and atone for failing their country by dying in battle.
>>2170542I would think that France would have more Ancestor Worship type stuff, England would have more Fae or Anglican Church stuff
>>2170550What's Africa doing in all this
>>2170550And how's the Vatican
>>2170553You're correct in both of those statements. In the actual posts to vote from, Britain was highly religious with a lot of supernatural creatures about. The French grew up in the catacombs around the dead, the famous phrase They Shall Not Pass drilled into their head.
>>2170554Africa has fallen apart largely, as most countries could no longer sustain all their colonies. There's isolated pockets of sorts on either side. >>2170559With the discovery of souls and awakening of supernatural creatures, the vatican gained a lot of credibility. Religion is part of every nation in one form or another.
>>2170547Seems accurate to me.>German style capsI believe your comparing it to german ww2 style caps. If thats the case then Union soldier has a "german style cap" as well.
>>2170518I'd prefer Austro Hungarians for the Mountain fighting or Ottomans for the mobile desert war, but Germans are cool.
>>2170569What are the turks up to?
>>2170574What about north Africa during ww1? That was a very interesting even less talked about aspect.
>>2170569Potentially a bit of a spoiler, but how deadly do you intend to run this quest? Like "if you pick the trap option you die" level stuff that we've just managed to dodge so far, or more just harsh consequences for dumb decisions?
>>2170607I don't think there are trap options so far, but he has laid out bait in which if we took could get us seriously hurt, if we make enough bad choices or don't back out due to our ego or pride at the appropriate time, we could get killed. We will be surrounded by death, but smart choices and a tad bit of luck and death will stalk us but never find us.
>>2170574Well, I was late for the initial vote, but army conspiracies, suicidal charges and archaic traditions would make the Russian quest great .Also QM,when you say that the Revolution never happened you mean the October Revolution or the February Revolution? I mean, either the latter didn´t happened and the Tzar´s rule continues unopposed or the first failed and led to the recovery of the Tzar´s powers.
>>2170607I went to sleep anon so apologies for the late reply. As >>2170620 says there will never be trap options. I don't like railroading people into a game over for no reason. If you take bait however and don't think of the previous information given in updates you can end up injured, enough to heavily impact the rest of the quest. They were outnumbered, and fighting on two fronts, and HELD.Also I like the strosstruppen, I've seen a lot of arditi wank lately while seeing very little to justify the wank outside of the steaming dump that the battlefield one campaign took on nation representation(not to mention not even giving a good feel of trench warfare with it's run-n-gun bullshit), but I feel the Storm troopers are just the most badass. The pounding of drums happens every so often. Blooms of light burst forth from outside your eyelids, lighting up the inside of your skull. Your head pounds as you slowly open your eyes. You’re laying on your back in the mud, bright plumes of flame and smoke rise from your left. Weakly you roll onto your side, finding yourself face to face with the blonde haired boy you had ran next to earlier. His eyes are dull, a trickle of blood running from his ear and down his face. You try to stand, putting your hand into the mud and feeling it squish into something hot and wet. You look down, finding your arm deep in the guts of the blonde boy who is currently spread out into the mud. His upper body shifts as you struggle to yank your arm out of the viscera. You nearly free it, before a rush of air buffest you back to the ground. A lengthy talon punches through the boys temple, the other three curling into various points of his face. You follow the talons up, the olive drab trousers ripped and bloodstained. Her skin is muddied heavily, nearly matching the color of the trousers. Where her arms would be are great brown wings, held close to her body. Her hair is a shaggy white, nearly covering the cunning gaze of the hazel eyes set into her rather feminine face. She stares down at you, tightening her grip on the corpse’s head and crushing it near completely. Your ears ring as she opens her mouth and lets loose a sustained scream at you, raising her other talon to puncture your skull similarly. A massive report and gout of flame eviscerates her upper half, shredding her entire left side. As her corpse falls forward, the blood staining your uniform, you see the large trooper from earlier. The shotgun in his hands lets thing wisps of smoke rise from the barrel and into the air. He holds out his hand to you, firing the shotgun into the sky from his hip with the other. “On your feet and find your rifle, I need another gun on these fucking monsters.”You pull yourself to your feet with his help, taking stock of the situation. Body parts and eviscerated corpses litter the area, those still alive are firing into the sky and darting between razor sharp talons that dive at them again and again. You see Seven firing his Luger into the air, trying to shout over the roaring flames and gunfire. You: Search for your rifle Pull out the shovel you brought with you

You look around, still a little slow from your tumble. It seems only harpies have found your convoy, the ground troops either weren’t this far in or have yet to catch up. It’s not much a condolence for the loss of what looks to be over half your unit. You stumble through the mud, sighting your rifle some meters away half buried in the mire. Even if you weren’t concussed, you likely wouldn’t have been able to get out of the way of the Harpy you notice too late. You brace yourself for an impact that looks to end in the way Nixie had described, with you finding yourself limbless moments later. It doesn’t come however, as the large boy with the shotgun checks you to the ground. You look up, watching the talons sink into his left forearm that he raises up as a shield, and slicing it clean at the elbow. He yells in rage and agony, firing the shotgun into the beasts chest in retaliation. The first round sends it to the ground, a pie shaped hole where her breasts had been. He levels the shotgun at her face with his remaining arm, the second and third round rendering the creature’s upper half a thick sludge that mixes with the muck. Updating for grabbing rifle with a sly comment towards the currently dead harpy you fucking necrophiliacs.
>>2175527Look man when all that endorphin and adrenaline flows through you a man gets a boner at the least inopportune times.
You stand, nodding to the trooper currently trying to tie off the stump of an arm now pouring blood down the front of his uniform. He nearly finishes, before another Harpy swoops in to finish the job. Out of rounds, the boy turns and swings the rifle by the barrel. The wooden stock smashes the Harpy out of the air with a crack you can hear over the din of combat. You realize he must stand nearly seven foot tall as he raises his boot over the head of the creature that seizes repeatedly on the ground. However much he may weigh, all of it is behind it as he caves in the beast's face with his boot, the violent thrashing dulling to a weak twitch as its brain coats his boot. You finally grab your rifle out of the mud, knocking the mud away frantically. The fire selector clicks to auto and you shoulder the weapon, letting loose a burst that takes out the figure intent on beheading the boy still stomping on the twitching corpse. You take stock of the situation, your gaze lingering on the body of the creature that was decimated with the shotgun. You wink at it once, before returning your eyes to the sky. You approach your comrade, taking a knee next to him and covering while he finishes his tourniquet. Your magazine is nearly empty by the time he’s done, and you fire the last few rounds at a circling monster, the rounds cutting into her waist with bright red puffs. It howls in agony as it drops into the mud, and you watch the creature’s neck bend a full ninety degrees as it hits. Dropping the empty steel box at your feet, you pull out a replacement from your rig, the khaki pouches having kept them clean and in their place during your fall from the truck. It snaps into place satisfyingly, and you cycle the bolt. Having finished his tourniquet, the boy cradles his shotgun and tries to load it, fumbling with the shells as adrenaline and shock sets in. He throws the weapon down in anger, kneeling down and pulling a fourteen inch bayonet from within his boot. The two of you walk side by side, finishing off the remaining enemies. The silence that reigns is only broken by the pounding of blood in your ears. You: Regroup with your unit, make sure they’re okay Check to make sure the harpies are all dead

Updating for >>2175611
As you walk, you pick up the shotgun that had been tossed into the mud and sling it over your shoulder. You gather with the few of your unit left. Seven is sitting on the corpse of a Harpy, a deep gouge splitting open the top of his scalp, the right side of his face a drying crimson. The others you don’t really recognize, but their survival speaks volumes. All told, a group of harpies half your number had managed to kill over two thirds of you that had been in the convoy. Counting yourself, Seven, and the boy next to you there are six of the original twenty plus you had set out with. “Good to see you Dietrich, glad to know you made it.”You nod, the mention of names prompting you to remember you don’t know your saviors own. You look at him, watching him breathe heavily as his arm slowly drips into the mud.“What’s your name even? You saved my ass and I don’t know it.”“Siegfried.I never had a last name, though my friends called me Kartoffel. Goddamn I could go for some of those.”The six of you sit and breathe, taking stock of the ammunition remaining. You turn and survey the field in time to watch one of the harpies you had previously thought dead take off at a speed fast enough to rival one of the biplanes you had seen growing up. “Fuck! Don’t let her get away!” Seven stands, firing wildly with his Luger which cracks rapidly, the sound soon joined by the combined fire of the survivors. Not a round finds its mark on the rapidly receding shape. “We need to move, they’ll be on us soon now that a scout can report. We need to get off the road, and I doubt either of those trucks are driveable. Siegfried leans against you, and by the way your body creaks he must weigh over two hundred pounds.“Come on Siegfried, stay awake. We’ve got a march to make. There will be Kartoffel when we get to the trenches. Kartoffel and medical attention.”Siegfried nods slowly, putting his one good arm around you in an attempt to report himself. The serrations on the massive bayonet in his hand catching on your uniform. Seven seems set on chasing down the scout however, rather than move to a safer area. You: Follow your officers orders Take Siegfried, get him help

“Sir, we are not combat effective.” You state this bluntly as you try to shift Siegfried’s weight, straightening your back.Seven turns to you, squinting through the blood that cakes his face.“Look Jäger, we’re going to be a lot worse than combat ineffective if we don’t get that fucking Harpy before she reports back. Now let’s move.”You nearly speak again before one of the other troops interrupts you. “Sir, I agree with Jäger. Something doesn’t feel right after that Harpy got me in the gut. I can’t breathe right, and it sure has hell looks worse than a glorified cut should. Requesting permission to move to the trenches.”Seven stares at you and the outspoken trooper, then to Siegfried whose eyes flutter weakly as he mumbles about eating. He paces slightly, rubbing a hand over his scalp, smearing the blood further down his face.“Fuck it, Jäger get them to the trenches since you want to go so damn bad. We three will move after the Harpy. After they’re settled, come back here and we’ll meet up by nightfall. Rest of you, let’s move.”Seven and the other three set out, leaving you with Siegfried and the outspoken troop from earlier. You begin the arduous walk northwest to the closest trenchline, the rows of barbed wire visible on the horizon. You feel as though you make good time, moving across the muddied wasteland that rises and falls with the man made crater scape. Fetid pools of water fill most of the shell holes, far deeper than you could guess after such shelling. The mire finds a way into your boots no matter how tight you lace them, freezing your feet to the bone and attempting to keep your boots with every step forward. The trenchline is only a few hundred meters away, Siegfried still somehow walking with your assistance though just barely. The line ahead of you remains quiet, not even the chatter of a machine gun since you’ve gotten close. The trooper that followed along has quickly become a moaning wreck, clutching at his abdomen and mutter now again at nothing. You: Stop and survey the line ahead of you Keep pushing forward, nearly there

Please tell me the Ozzies have Emu cavalry.
>>2175800> Stop and survey the line ahead of youI don't want to end up in a ghoul infested trench.
>>2175808Bascially, lets NOT walk into a trench line full of unknown possible hostiles. Even moreso if the trench line is dead slient at this point.
We survey the line, keep our eyes out for emu. Side note, you guys are way more cautious than I've seen people in other quests.
>>2175800>Stop and SurveyObvious reasons
>>2175833Look man, years of survival training and a fair few combat encounters is helping me out here.We gotta keep our ears peeled, you can generally hear an enemy before you'll ever see them.
You drop to a knee, setting Siegfried down gently. He barely responds, though his white knuckle grip around the bayonet doesn’t loosen. You stare at the trench line, trying to take in as much as you can. The complete silence is overwhelming, and uncommon. Artillery made sound, guns made sound, even the Ghuls hooted and screamed as they killed and ate. That left gas, or things far worse than your imagination could dream up. To your right, the moaning trooper sits on the edge of the massive shell hole. It’s nearly thirty feet in diameter, filled right to the brim with a greenish red murk that bubbles occasionally. You notice in fact that much of the landscape around you is filled with similar such scenery, a stagnant rotting landscape. A slight movement much further down the trenchline catches your eye, the dull grey of a german infantry coat appearing briefly before moving out of sight below the breastworks. As you stare closer in the dimming light, this scene is repeated in other areas of the trenchline, as if the coats wave in the wind on some unseen line. The water to your left ripples enough for you to notice, and you stare intently. Siegfried’s head rolls side to side weakly, as if he is stuck in a dream. You glance further behind you, the fetal form of the other trooper still curled on the ground. You: Move up Stay a little longer, keep watching

You press down on your rifle, using it as leverage to stand. The water to your right ripples from the edge furthest from you, concentric rings riding through the layer of scum along the top. You grab Siegfried, lifting him from the ground carefully as he grunts. “Jäger was it? I thank you for this. I think Seven would have left me to die, not that I blame him. It’s a long chance I’ll make it anyway.” Siegfried steadies himself, having seemingly regained some of his strength. “Don’t worry about it. Now we’re even for earlier, though I guess I’d have to lose an arm to truly be even.” Siegfried laughs at your joke, wincing slightly as he does. You watch out of the corner of your eye as another ripple moves over the surface of the water, this time from the side you sit near. You turn to tell the other trooper to get up and continue on, met with only the impression in the mud where he had lain and smeared mud that led into the water. The hair on your arms and the back of your neck raises, the headache you had gone with the adrenaline that rushed to the forefront. You scanned the area for any signs of an enemy. All around you, the water in the craters ripples slowly. First from one spot in the water, then another and another. Soon they’re nothing more than roiling abyss, the fetid slop spilling over edge and onto the mud. The one to your right moves more violently than the rest, and in it you catch a glimpse of a uniform pattern you yourself wear. You struggle towards the trench, Siegfried sensing your urgency and trying to move of his own accord. Behind you, you heard a wet slap as something moves into the mud, then another and another. You lose count of the amount of noises, turning into a rapid staccato reminiscent of a machine gun as it repeats over and over. You finally reach the trench, and stand atop the breastworks. It’s difficult to help Siegfried down, but you manage, dropping yourself in after. You find yourself calf deep in a thick red sludge, tatters of uniform floating atop it. Rifles lay shattered like kindling, or tossed about haphazardly. You follow the line of water further down the trench, and are unable to process what you see.Cont. in the next post.
A roiling, shifting mass of red segmented flesh. It twists and curls over itself and you quickly realize that there is more than one to whatever it is. They wrap around and around, moving aimlessly as they devour the remains of the former inhabitants. The seething mass continues as far down the trench as you can see, at some parts rising level to the breastworks. Every so often a tatter of uniform or a greatcoat rises above the wood, only to be pulled back under. Thick black prongs yank and pull at any exposed object, digging in and pulling into a gaping maw of razors. You look back the way you came, ready to pull yourself out of this living hell. The cratered hellscape you arrived in is covered in a sea of red. At first you think the water had spilled over, but begin to see each individual shape. Each of them at least twelve feet in length, dragging themselves through the mire. You see them by the crater you sheltered at, two of them fighting over a dim gray shape stuck between one maw and another. You: Climb atop a bunker Unload and unload and unload Find one of the lockable rooms below ground

Vote closed! Climbing a bunker. Updates will be a bit faster as we're in an action scene so you can have more control.
>>2175890> Find one of the lockable rooms below ground
You struggle in the muck, a rising panic that you struggle to clamp down on as the noise of the sliding flesh grows closer. You try to get to the concrete structure on the other side, dragging Siegfried along with you. Something under the red sludge catches your boot, sending the two of you face first into it. You stand, the helmet you had tripped over kicked up to the top of the soup. Siegfried stands, strong on his feet once more as the adrenaline takes over. You’re about to climb up the concrete, when you look down to your right. It seems your tumble had drawn the attention of all the creatures further down the line. They turned slowly, rows of teeth spinning slowly as if trying to think. With as much a rush as they can muster, the creatures move towards you, sliding over top one another. You finally find yourself on the bunker, not near as high in the air as you had wished. Siegfried pulls himself up beside you with his one good arm. You: Start killing the closest targets Wait for them to get under you Hold your fire, maybe they’ll forget you
>>2175866Was going to vote for GTFO but looks like we’re screwed anyways

>>2175906> Start killing the closest targetsGet some!
>>2175906 Hold your fire, maybe they’ll forget youWe shouldn't shoot unless we can 1 shot kill each o them. either way we will shoot the closest first.
It's only been five minutes but with participation so far this seems to be the vote. Get some it is!
You set the rifle to semi automatic, snapping a round into the closest worm as it reaches the opposite edge of the trench. As if electrified it spirals around on the ground, thrashing violently, black ichor leaking from the bullet hole. It drops into the trench, violently swirling in the water. You continue putting well placed shots to the creatures as they approach, trying to stem the approaching tide. Your first magazine runs dry, and you transition to the next. Each round is another dead, and twenty more take its place. Before long, the trench before you is filled with bodies of creatures, the ichor staining red sludge and swirling about like an oil. Siegfried reaches down when he can, carving large chunks from those that get too close with his bayonet. No matter how many you kill, more take their placeYou: Fight to the last round Move to the center of the bunker roof, kill only those that make it up Push Siegfried into the trench and try to run

You move into the middle, taking a knee and loading a fresh magazine. Siegfried follows you, standing by your side and breathing heavily. “Worse ways to die right Sieg?”He looks at you like you’re crazy as you say this.“I can’t think of much worse than getting eaten alive but I’m sure you’re right. Who says anyone is dying though? I’m down one arm and still outscoring you.”A thick red creature rears over the top of the roof, the maw rotating slowly, a low clicking emanating from the teeth that click against one another. You fire a round through the open hole, a spray of meat and ichor flying from the exit wound at the back. You lose track of how much time passes, the two of you stay there killing those that approach. Realistically it can’t have been much more than a few minutes, and to your dismay the shifting mass hasn’t thinned in the slightest. Your last magazine drops at your feet, joining the rest of the empties. You: Pull out the shovel made for killing Give up

You set your rifle at your feet, undoing the leather cover on your hip and letting the shovel drop into your hand. You spin it once, feeling the comforting wait of a killing tool. As if on queue another one of the creatures rises level with you. You pivot, putting all your strength into a swing that cuts deep into the creature under the teeth. You yank back, the serrations slicing just far enough to finally sever the segment, the creature’s vicious thrashing spraying you with a black tar. “Fuck I want one of those.”You’d laugh if you had the breath too, more of the monsters appearing at every angle leaving you to hack like mad. Siegfried joins in, ripping and tearing as best he can. You’re both panting, trying to suck in as much air as you can. Your arms burn from hacking into the wiry muscle intent on tearing you apart. In the distance, a concussion sounds and a massive column of water and fleshy chunks fly into the air from the shell hole you had previously sat near. You: Try to figure out what’s going on Keep fighting like mad

You cleave into another creature, splitting it neatly where the metal cut in. To your side Siegfried slices wildly, covering wherever you can’t. Your movements have begun to grow sluggish, and your head spins from turning so much. Another concussion, originating from the center of another shell hole. The explosions grow in frequency, and move closer and closer towards your position. Each one sends a column of meat and water into the sky, and you soon find yourself drenched, chunks of unidentifiable flesh stuck to your hair and uniform. A particularly gruesome swing sends ichor spraying into your face, blinding you momentarily. You slip backwards in the slime that covers your position, the hard concrete stealing what little breath was left in your lungs. You ready yourself to feel stabbing pain and flesh being torn from your body as you frantically wipe at your eyes, but all that comes is the rapid staccato of gunfire very close. Siegfried grabs you by the shoulder with his good arm, lifting you up to your feet as you manage to wipe away most of the sticky gore from your face. On the opposite side of the trench, masked figures with weapon in hand fire down into the writhing mass that calls the trenches home. Empty grenade bags adorn their sides, magazines stuffed wherever there may be room. You watch, recognizing the uniform of a Sturmtruppen. You don’t recall any from your unit having brought gas masks, so they must be from another section. Eventually the gunfire stops, the soldiers having either run out or pulled crude melee weapons by choice. They jump forward into the trench, cleaving anything that moves. You: Join in Stand and try to catch your breath

Updating to stand by!
You stay atop the bunker, your hands on your knees as you breathe heavily. It takes what willpower you have not to simply sit and fall asleep. Instead, you pick up your shovel and place it back in the leather sheath. Your rifle is covered in various fluids but would work if you had ammunition, and you sling it next to the shotgun. Siegfried stands next you, before finally collapsing forward, nearly falling off the top of the bunker. You rush forward, pulling him back from the edge. The Sturmtruppen finish their gruesome business soon after this event, looking up at the two of you. The one standing closest pulls himself up atop the bunker, standing in front of you. You’re about to ask him for aid when he pushes you aside, crouching next to Siegfried and examining his wounds. You aren’t even quite sure of what he is doing, and as such take a step back so as not to get in the way. A muffled voice from in the trench reaches your ears and you look down at one of the masked men.“Can you repeat yourself?”The man holds up a hand to you, as if signalling for you to wait. It takes him a moment to remove the mask that hid his face, revealing a weathered visage of someone far older than you. “I asked if you’d ever seen a Rotworm before boy. I’ll assume you haven’t since you wandered right into one of their homes. This trench has been left to them for nearly a week now. Had it not been for your shots we wouldn’t have heard you.”“Well then I’m glad I had enough ammo.” It’s hard to even respond, or process what’s happening. Your exhaustion consumes your body after such heavy fighting. The soldier chuckles, looking around.“Well you sure as hell made it count, and fought like a damned lycan when you ran out. Impressive that you and a guy missing an arm managed to hold out. You ever even seen a Rotworm?” You shake your head no in response. “Well your instincts are good then. Move away from the water and get high. These fuckers love it low and damp. We’ll be clearing the underground for days. For now however, your friend needs aid, and some grilled Rotworm sounds good to me.”You realize how hungry you are after such strenuous activity, though the idea of eating the slimy creatures doesn’t sound quite appetizing. “We’ll get some sort of camp set up and a fire going. Your friend should be just fine in the hands of Dok. Never seen a wound he can’t fix other than a missing head.” With that said, the troopers walk away, bayonetting the occasional corpse as they wade through the trench. You step away from the bunker, allowing the Doktor to have his space. For the first time in awhile you feel your breast pocket shift, a small shape popping out from within.“Do you want to hear a story about the first year of war Dietrich?”You: Yes No
>>2176018>NoWhere the fuck were you?Let's get ourselves cleaned up and get our friend patched up. More important things to do than to listen to a story.
>>2176018> Yes"Let me guess, The Fae tried to help the Germans but they only saw the supernatural as a weapon to be used?"

>>2176022>>2176025>>2176026>>2176027Guys we can listen to this story another time. Right now, we need to get our exhausted ass some food and a bedroll.Let's help set up camp and update the guy in charge about our situation before we start listening to fairy tales.
>>2176033How about no.
>>2176033And who said we can't clean up and eat while listening to this story?Like I said, Knowledge is power. She might give us some info that will save our asses later.Plus if we're nice to her, she might vouch for us if we ever wander into a dryad glade or whatever.
>>2176033We can still do most of that shit while listening to loredump. Also god damn it we could have just asked Tink about the trench.
Updating for a story. This will be the last post of the night guys as I need to do a lot of cooking tomorrow.
>>2176018 Noshould tell them about our other "squad".
“I...I didn’t think you’d want to. First you let me live, then hide me, now you listen to a Fae? Full of surprises.”You sit yourself at the far end of the trench away from the others, laying your rifle in your lap and trying to rub it clean. Nixie climbs out of the pocket, setting herself on your shoulder.“You humans measure time by years yes? That means that…” she pauses for a moment, holding out her fingers and wiggling them for some time.“Two hundred and thirty two years ago. It’s been that long since the last bit of humanity was shown. At least the last time it was shown by many, and not just acts of camaraderie in the field.” Nixie looks back at Siegfried as she says this, pausing before continuing.“On this very day, your people laid down their arms and shared gifts. Made friends and made merry. I think you’ve lost all that...that thing that made humans what they were. I did at least, until I watched my forest burned down around me only to be taken in.” Nixie swings her feet back and forth on your shoulder, falling silent for a moment.“We had hope then, the Fae. Hope that the war that was causing so much death had an end, that the humanity that shone through on that day would pull through. Maybe we just try to see the good and don’t understand your reasons for war, but if an end can be in sight then I will pursue it as best I can.” Nixie flies from your shoulder, flitting in front of you to be face to face.“I’ve seen that same humanity in you. In what you did for me, and what you did today. If there is to be an end to this madness, then you will help bring it. I’ll do whatever I can to help.”You remain silent, unsure of what to say. It was hard to believe that the fighting had ever stopped, even if just a day, no matter what that day was. Nixie doesn’t seem to look for an answer from you, just having been happy to talk. “Merry Christmas Jäger.”You remember the phrase slightly, an old tradition from when your country could spare the time for such things. The state houses had always talked about winning, and bringing back such things, but if everyone had forgotten it how could it come back. The term feels unfamiliar on your lips but natural.“Merry Christmas Nixie.” The fairy smiles slightly at this, settling back into your pocket as ash from the now roaring fire falls down around you. And that's it for tonight guys. I wish I could have gone longer but I worked an early shift today and it sucked. I want to sincerely thank you all for joining me on Christmas Eve and making it special. As it is now one am, Merry Christmas to you all. Next session will be 9:30PM EST on Thursday December 28th. >Forgot the damn pic
>>2176045Damn that was well tied together man. Did you seriously run today just for that?
>>2176049I won't say I didn't really want to do it to take this chance I only get once a year, but mostly I just really like running this quest for everyone. It's very very enjoyable and I have so much planned I want to get to. So I try to do a session whenever I can!
>>2176045Wow that was unnecessarily cheesy. And she sure was forgiving about the whole guy that got her forest and most of her friend burned thing. Really thought she'd be more mad. Now I kind of feel like a dick.
>>2176054Sometimes the cheese is the right way to go.
>>2176058Thank you anon!
>>2176054I'm not sure if it's actually the case here but Fae have a very different way of looking at things than humans.
>>2176045Oh damn. Didn't know that the fairy tale would be about Christmas. Merry Christmas QM, thanks for running.
What did you guys think of the Rot Worms and their introduction? Sufficiently tense?
>>2176063Fucking terrifying. I see why hope has died if these things exist en-mass
Happy solstice everyone! Now I have to ask. What is up with Australia and New Zealand in this setting?Any rumors we might have heard back home about the NZ Light Cavalry? Was Gallipoli still such a massive fuck up, or maybe it's still a front?Rotworms were fun. Seriously worried about Tater there.
>>2176063>Sufficiently tense?Very, I didn't even get to make my harpy sex doll decoy.Merry Christmas ya'll!Yuletide givings to Nixe give her some chocolate rations.
>>2176063I really thought we were fucked and at least Sieg would have been killed but I'm presently surprised we got out of there with no casualties except Nameless Moaner.
>>2176065Australia and New Zealand still fight with the British Empire due to their deep ties. We'll be seeing more of them in depth much later, but rest assured they will make an appearance. Nothing rumored about light cavalry, or Emu's thank god. Gallipoli was a huge failure the first, second, and third time, but become a front the fourth attempt. It's much like Tannenburg in this universe, a perpetual battlefield. Very much verdun on a daily basis. >TaterGlad someone likes his nickname>>2176072Had you guys gone below ground Sieg would have died
>>2176066I thought so too, figured he'd bleed out and then get overwhelmed or just die from bloodloss.>>2176063Also was the bunker really empty? You said the worms liked low damp places....
>>2176075Below ground would have meant death for Sieg, and caused Dietrich to have a phobia of tunnel fighting.
>>2176074>perpetual battlefieldPlease no, I hate spawn campers.>>2176077hat happened to the other kid who complained alot? Was it the worms or did he fall into a pool of acid and drown due to being poisoned maybe?
>>2176081Worms dragged him into the pool, and were fighting over his body when we ran away. Alluded to being ripped in half and devoured.
>>2176083Why did the Jerries switch to 9.8mm from 8mm Mauser, considering they already had millions of guns already made in the previous caliber and likely nearly billions by the time they changed the ammo?
>>2176083What would have happened if we dragged that guy out of the pool
>>2176097He'd have been half the man we knew him as.He just left a part of himself in that pond.
>>2176097We'd die or Nixie would have drowned.
>>2176095When the supernatural and horror creatures started showing up they wanted a bigger round, as did most nations.>>2176097Well if you'd have attempted even though it wasn't an option you'd have been very likely to die.
