Marvel Quest Presents: Vibrant and Intuition DriveA quest set in a version of the Marvel Universe, following the exploits of two emerging powerful individuals.VibrantAt the cost of the reputation of his multi-million dollar engineering corporation, Vibrant Technologies, as well as the life of his friend, Vincent Walken has developed a sonic device capable of generating terrific force capable of even sending him into an alternate world. How will he use this new power?Intuition DriveAn escaped android developed to solve investigations with intuition instead of logic. Having fled destruction at the hands of the company that created it, it seeks to find acceptance in the world as a hero and, perhaps, as a person.
>>2136336Okay, I'm interested.
>>2136358Could we be one of those heroes that kills there enemies?
VibrantYou raced, feet pounding, heart thumping, and sweat pouring down your face. Thinking of nothing but the terrifying claws of the beast narrowly missing your head, you press harder. The alarms sounds. You tap the controls and step off the treadmill, panting from your exertion. Snatching up the soft cloth towel, you push the thoughts of your frightful first trip to the other world out of your mind.[See last issue: “Marvel Quest Presents: Vibrant First Step” >>2111433 ]Your narrow escape made it clear how important staying in peak physical form is and it helps motivate you as you work out, but now you need to order your thoughts. Today was going to be a big day. The reports from R&D were due back later this morning.Stepping into the spacious shower in your office bathroom, you focus on the big questions:>What are your primary goals?>What do you need to accomplish those goals?>How do you want to use this technology to achieve those goals?>How can you make your company stronger to better support those goals?Naturally thoughts tumble about your head as you consider your options. Your shower ends with little resolution. Afterall, you don’t have to decide such things right now. These open-ended questions can be discussed and won’t be decided until end of the discussion/session/issue/thread.
>>2136365So it's apparent that we need to further weaponize our sonic device to survive exploration of the other world. I'd also be interested to see if there are other more hospitable worlds we can travel to while still investigating the exact source of the radiation that killed our friend. We can make our company stronger by reverse engineering technology found in the other worlds. >>2136336Really liking the cover page look.
>>2136365>What are your primary goals?Personal goals or company goals? Improving the sonic device would be a good start.
>>2136364>Could we be one of those heroes that kills their enemies?Sorry, I deleted that post due to autism. But yes, the path the characters take is determined entirely by the choices you make. But the paths get narrower as the characters will remain consistent with the traits you imbue them with.Vibrant has shown ambition and bravery, yet also caution.Intuition Drive has shown bravery, compassion, and a sense of Justice. But such things are still young in development. Also, it has yet to be determined if they are truly heroes.
>>2136388>Personal goals or company goals?Either.Both.>>2136386>Really liking the cover page look. The look of the cover or of the Vibrant's slicker suit?Either way, thanks!
>>2136386To go along with that: we need a hazmat suit. Any kind of physical protection against a hazardous environment would be ideal.
>>2136402I mostly just like how it looks like an actual comic book cover
>>2136417That's what our suit is already, it's designed to resist all sorts of things already, including massive amounts of radiation.
>>2136417Vibrant's gear include a durable spacesuit that provides oxygen and strong protection against ambient radiation.
Obligatory Exposition FlashbackThe preperations for the final stage of the experiment were almost complete.Looking around the test chamber, Vincent Walken couldn't help but think back on all they sacrificed, all he had lost, in the many months since this began. His head of research and development, as well as lifelong friend, had developed an amazing device. The device had begun its development as a sonic weapon, but he'd had found an amazing use for it.Once fully functional, it was to create a subsonic wave of such intensity it could propel the user on a wave through space, but was perfectly harmonically balanced as to not disturb anything along the path, effectively teleporting them to their destination near instantly.S.W.O.R.D. had need of a rapid method space travel, was offering an obscenely lucrative contract, and this was to be their solution.Automated tests had all failed and the brilliant inventor was certain it would work snd had insisted that he take the first voyage. At first, everything seemed to work, the device operated perfectly, and he disappeared. But he had reappeared at the destination pad, or anywhere. After over an hour, the inventor reappeared exactly where he had left, covered with severe radiation burns. Before succumbing to radiation poisoning, he had said five words, "It was another world, Vincent!"Vincent had determined not to let his friend's death be for nothing. He would find a way to safely travel between worlds and master the technology to allow Vibrant Technologies to dominate the industry. However, the levels of radiation that had been absorbed in such a short time required a radiation suit of extraordinary durability and versatility. The only manufacturers of such a suit were his company's chief rivals for the S.W.O.R.D. contract, the Roxxon corporation. He had been emotional, desperate, and they had known it.He made the deal to pull out of the bid, agree not to pursue space travel technology, and all for one damn suit.It had hurt the company, hurt the board's faith in him, and had been a bitter pill to swallow. But the moment had come.He donned the suit, attached the device harness, and prepared to begin. To begin his path to redemption. To begin his path to justice. To begin his path to revenge.Vincent Walken activated the device and slipped into a new world.
>>2136388>Improving the sonic device>>2136386>further weaponize our sonic device>see if there are other more hospitable worlds we can travel to>investigate the exact source of the radiation that killed our friend>make our company stronger by reverse engineering technology found in the other worldsThese are all possible.
>>2136365Feeling much more yourself once showered and dressed, you step out into your office just as your assistant enters with a cup of coffee and your new Head of Research and Development a step behind her. You invite them to sit as you settle behind your desk. You maintain a calm, confident demeanor, but you've been excitedly anticipating the results of the examination of the three devices you were able bring back from the other world. “Well?” you ask. “Those products you had us examine really are extraordinary, sir. As I said earlier, our expertise on robotics is less than optimal. The actuators you provided are clearly cutting edge, but we just aren’t able to tell you if it would be comparable to what is currently being developed.”That was disappointing.“However, we have managed to set up a lunch meeting with Shin Yoshida from the R&D of Asano Robotics. He has agreed to total non-disclosure and is willing to meet with us. I could meet him and have him assess the scientific worth of them or I suppose your CFO could meet him to discuss their economic. Of course, you could meet with him yourself, too. He understands how busy you are and would be willing to meet with you for dinner instead if you prefer.” “What about the power source?”“Ah! That remains a complete mystery still, I’m afraid. We can discern that there is an incredible quantity of power inside it and can tap and drain the power easily, but figuring out how it works, how it charges, or even how to disassemble it has, so far eluded us.”That was even more disappointing.“However, I was able to squeeze possibility for a meeting with a true expert, Dr. Richards happens to be in town and had a cancellation. It would need be with you, today, and in place of lunch, I’m afraid. He seemed interested in looking over the device. Also, Mr. Tony Stark accepted your dinner invitation, but did not yet specify a location. I think your assistant has been discussing the matter with his. Alternatively, we could begin experimenting more in depth with it here, find a facility offsite to work on it, or consult Roxxon to appraise it’s value. Our lawyers were eager to right up that non-disclosure agreement. Heh.” Meeting with Richards would be incredible, dare you say “fantastic”. You never had the opportunity to directly speak with him before. However, there were certain risks with letting a super genius with a dedication to a moral righteousness observe your technology. You couldn’t be sure what his reaction could be. “What about the control system?”“Well, that we had the most luck with. It was relatively a simple matter to reverse engineer. The fine control it provides is definitely superior to anything we have on the market. There are a number of our product lines that could benefit from its use. We could use the prototype to begin mass production, or we might even be able to refine it further with increased study."This was excellent news.
>>2136482“As per your request, the prototype devices are here in this case. I admit, we are all a little curious where these prototypes were, uh, obtained from?”“Perfectly legitimate salvage. Thank you for your hardwork.” You reply, shaking their hand. It was true. You had your legal team work up the proper documents for “extraterrestrial salvage”, which this was.Of course, alternate realities might not be legally considered “extraterrestrial”, but the claim was legal enough to dispel most inquiry. After walking them out of the room and assuring them you’d let them know of your decisions, you sip your coffee and regard the morning cityscape of New York below you. Now you had some decisions to make. You’re grateful for the opportunity to examine the whip. After disassembling it and reassembling it, you think you have a fair idea of how it works, but the cybernetic interpretation circuitry and power controls are a mystery to you. Also, the power supply operates at an unusual frequency and you can’t understand why.Implementing the whip into your suit was effortless, however. You attempt to maneuver it, but aside from retracting and extending it, you handle it with the skill and grace of a toddler with a garden hose.At the very least, you have an extremely strong retractable cable that can be manually tightened around objects. It may yet become useful.More importantly, the compact, collapsible, and nested design may be useful to copy when implementing other advances into your suit. But that would have to wait as dinner was rapidly approaching.Tony Stark arrived 45 minutes late for dinner with an apology about running into “an acquaintance of a friend”. But he brought a bottle of exquisite scotch and your chef did an fantastic job keeping the food from going dry, so the meal was far from a loss. The conversation was insufferable for most of the evening, as he had an infuriating habit of mentioning your business failings in the last year. Certain his flippant attitude was just to get a rise out of you, you do your best to ignore it.Finally, you bring out the power supply and hand it over to him to examine.Simple in outer design, the rounded rectangular box glows a faint orange and bears silver trim on two thirds of its edges. Along one such edge is the power output that released a steady controlled output, limiting the substantial power it releases.Tony produces some form of electronic magnifying lens like a Jeweler’s Eye. After examining the power supply closely, he gives you an odd look and directly asks you where you got the device.>Answer him honestly. Tell him that it was salvaged from an alternate reality.>Say it was a salvaged prototype from an acquired company.>Tell him that your former Head of R&D had invented it, but left no notes.>Ask him why he wants to know.>Tell him that kind of information is expensive to learn. Now, if Vibrant Technologies had some backing and support from Stark Industries with the related venture, I would be happy to share everything I know." You offer you most welcoming smile. For once, you have technology and information that he doesn't. It feels good.Tony Stark holds your gaze for a moment before replying "You are cautious. That's good." He flippantly tossed the power source back to you, making you scramble to catch it."You'll need to be cautious if you're going to continue salvaging technology from an alternate reality.""How-" you begin when he also flippantly tosses the Jeweler's Eye to you and cuts you off."Examine the seam to the right of the power output. Do you see it? Don't beat yourself up for not finding it, I simply have better toys." At first, you see nothing, then you adjust the magnification until you see the hidden words.Stark repeats them out loud even as you read them:"Proudly manufactured by Parker Industries in Detroit, Michigan, United States of America, Midgard."Now, I have no clue what 'Parker Industries' is, but I know for certain there's no collaboration with Asgard technology in Detroit."Obviously, last year's little attempt at space travel yielded you different results. Still though, to have created the ability to slip into an alternate reality without creating a detectable tear in the fabric of reality is impressive technology."If you continue to be as thoroughly cautious as you have been, I see no reason to interfere with your continued salvage efforts."If you'd like, I could facilitate your efforts with an old minimal exosuit, for safety. I'd only ask for 20% of the net value of any technology salvaged using the suit. What do you say?"You're fairly certain that he just "allowed" you to keep using your own proprietary technology and the colossal prick managed to sound magnanimous. You'd like to stab him a little."As for the power source, I have no idea how to charge it or create another one. I would recommend draining the power from that one, and once it's safely drained, then experiment with opening it up, away from the city, like Roxxon's new energy plant is doing."Well, thank you for the meal, Vincent, but I need to see about a misplaced parcel. I think a license and blueprints for a non current line of his suits might be appropriate. After all 20 percent imply significant stake. Make it a 10 instead. It should still be a lot relative to investment on his part, and make it limited to technology salvaged with use of those suits or its derivatives. If such involvement does not seem attractive, perhaps we could at least discuss future cooperation on research and implementation of salvaged tech on case by case basis. And maybe ask if he’s got any security tips regarding delving into other universes, given his connections. >>2138723>Maybe we can incorporate our weird dimension-tearing sonic tech into this and use the whip to tear open actual portals into different dimensions. It would also make a very dangerous weapon if you open a small dimensional tear on an enemy by striking them with it.While far from impossible, this would be a full new power and expensive to level up to a strong state. Also, one benefit of your dimensional travel is that it is incredibly "clean".When you travel, it's like the Conehead girl making a perfect dive and hardly making a ripple in the fabric of space time. This whip would be a cannonball, but you could theoretically open larger portals with it.>>2139172>Suit upgrade ideas:>>Incorporate power source into our suitEasily done. At the sound of the approaching sirens, you make a swift exit.Quickly finding a print store, you begin to assemble a report for the police.Printing the right pictures takes a while. Technically, the images are stored within your drive, within you. But you are not a normal computer. The data within you is not ordered and filed logically. It seems to churn and shift, which has made printing specific images from memory quite difficult.Once, you tried printing an image of your gun to show a dealer, as you are not certain how to charge or reload the weapon. Every time you tried, you just printed an image of the administrator who shot you in the back.Your image storage seems much more "stream of subconscious" than "filing cabinet".Fortunately, the images were fresh in your mind and out of 100 or so images, about 20 were useful for the police. You were able to put together a report of the incident with pictures of the gangsters and their loot and fax it to the police. The two images that stood out to you were one of the box as it opened, where you could almost see five disks in the box with notches for seven more. Also, it's now obvious that the metal box was a safety deposit box from a bank. The other image was one from when you were talking to the guy with glasses at the laptop. You hadn't noticed at the time, but you caught his e-mail firstname.lastname@example.orgYou might want to ask him I'd saw anything you might have missed later.Otherwise, your main clue is the disk. You leave after paying the print shop for their services with some of the wad of cash you accidentally kept from Frankie's pocket.Once in a secluded area, you take out the disk and examine it. It doesn't yield any more clues, although your nanites sense a low level of subatomic energy coming from it. The energy isn't dangerous itself, but is unlike anything you have ever heard of. It shouldn't be possible, but it seems to permeate the omnium shell of the nanites and interact with electrons from within them. It doesn’t make any sense to you.Securing the disk for now, you concentrate on the criminals. Not sure of what they would do other than speed off to a hideout away from this part of the city, you pick a direction and start walking. You are on the case.Meanwhile, at the police precinct, they receive a very helpful bundle of evidence in a fax signed...>Anonymous>Intuition Drive>ID>Id>A Friend>Your Friendly Neighborhood Robot Detective>write-in

A strange string of crimes swept across the city at the same time this afternoon. Authorities are either unwilling or unable to explain how these seemingly unrelated crimes all occurred simultaneously.Theories about organized crime or terrorist activity have been met with no comment. Most of the crimes were thwarted and resolved by either police or, in several occasions, local superheroes. Most notably was, of course, Iron Man capturing the Rhino after an attempt at robbing the vault of a metropolitan bank. Also nearby, several well known criminals were seen robbing a local cafe. The sole culprit apprehended claims to be working alone. This is despite eyewitness reports stating that the cafe robbery was prevented by a concerned citizen who fled the scene of the crime but later delivered evidence against the criminals, only identifying themselves with the initials "I.D.".Also a new superhero debuted today in the defense of several patrons of an upscale restaurant, the name of which is withheld at their request.Witnesses stated the hero, who appear to be using a noise weapon, identified themselves as "White Noise". One woman, who wished only to be identified as Vanessa said the hero was atrociously loud, but surprisingly effective at defeating the criminal. That criminal was identified as the notorious villain "Backlash". No comment has been made as to why the criminal targeted that restaurant.>>2144454>Has SHIELD taken notice of Vibrant yet after his stunt at the restaurant?SHIELD watches the news, yeah.

You liked fighting. You were good at it too.So were the tough biting bugs that hid inside. The hid inside trees. They hid inside dirt. But mostly, they hid inside friends.Every friend you had got sick, got mean, and turned into a tough biting bug.But you still fought good. You fought for days and days without rest, against swarms of the bugs. When they ran out of bugs, you stopped, rested, cooked bugs, ate bugs, and one day met Squishie.Squishie loved to roll around and kept trying to climb your back, squeeze you, and hug you.Squishie was like you and never turned into a biting bug.Squishie didn't eat the bugs and didn't like the fire. You were worried that Squishie might get sick ftom not eating. Then one day, a metal house crashed with a roar and new friends came out. They seemed curious about all the dead bugs you leave lying around. You creep closer, trying to smell if the have biting bugs in them, then you saw Squishie roll into their house. You ran in to get Squishie before something bad happened. That's when it suddenly got dark and everything changed forever.
>>2145201It is dark, you can not see Squishie. But you can hear. You can hear the new friends. But, you can't smell them. They could have biting bugs inside them. Four of them are close. The new friends outside had been hard on the outside, like bugs with big heads. But they also had the same arms and legs as you.Two come closer. They are scared. Biting bugs not often scared, but sometimes scared when you kill them.Maybe these have weak biting bugs. Maybe they think you have biting bug in you. You wish you had fire to see.You sense movement and raise arm to block bug arm, but feel just small bite arm.You pull out one tooth stuck in arm.Two close new friends still too far to hit.Strange new friend spat tooth at you.New friends are weird.>Attack new friends, bite them on arm, see how they like>Step back from new friends>Ignore dumb new friends and look for Squishie or fire to see.>write-in

At least you have good dinner. But you can't find where on wall snake is.Snake smells awful though. You think smelly snake might not taste good. You wake up from a deep sleep and sense others around before you open your eyes. You move to leap to your feet when you can't move your arms or legs. Your eyes flash open. You are on metal mat moveing down a tunnel like a log on a river. Strange wide vines have grown over you in your sleep. They bind your arms legs and chest.Your chest.Squishie is gone again!Turning your head you see a new friend behind you pushing the mat.Another friend is nearby holding a shiny ball. After a second, you realize that the ball is clear and you can see Squishie inside.Squishie isn't moving. Squishie must be very sick-scared.The tunnel separates and the mat turns down another tunnel to a large flat box on the wall. The friend behind your mst moves to push little squares on a larger square near the box.The box opens and it must have startled another snake because you hear it hiss quickly, but this one doesn't stink.Inside the box is a cave.Your mat takes you inside and the other friend puts the ball of Squishie on another metal box. The two friends put something around your neck, vines on sticks. The vine is tight on your neck. The wide vines loosen and you leap to your feet on the mat. The friends pull the sticks and the vines hurt your neck and you fall off the mat. You roll as you hit the hard metal ground, but they pull at your neck and it hurts again.Good. You can fight. You like to fight.Maybe these friends good at fighting. You hit both sticks and throw your body in opposite directions, twist, jump, and wrench the stocks free from their grip. You punch both friends in the gut and flip backwards. They are not good at fighting. Too bad. They are angry. But another is not.Another new friend was in cave already. You turn around. Maybe they want to fight. Maybe they fight better. They don't want to fight. And they have smaller, softer head, like yours. They don't smell bad like biting bugs. They are feeling curious. They are feeling excited. They are feeling happy, about you. They hold up their hands. You do same, like other-you in calm water. They move hands toward smaller cave in this cave. You extend your arms and hug good new friend. It feels much better than anything you've ever felt before.Good new friend feels soft weak fragile in your arms, but somehow still strong. You want to keep hugging, but they pull away and take your hand in theirs."Come." They gently guide you to the smaller cave and sit down on another mat. This mat looks softer and it feels good underneath as you sit.You hug them again for a long while. No biting bugs come. No dumb new friends spit teeth. You feel safe for the first time since before the fight. You close your eyes and sleep......You wake in the clear-wall cave again. It has been many sleeps and many many best-food-evers since you first came.Good friend does not come into the clear-wall cave often, but is always "kind" and happy. You are happy too. You are still worried about Squishie, although you get to see Squishie every day, they never open up the ball and let Squishie hug them or you. You have tried to use mouth-sounds to make thought-words and tell good friend that Squishie is safe friend and biting bugs are bad danger."Speaking" is hard. You are eating a brick of best-food-evers when dumb friend enters larger cave.Dumb friends have right-sized heads like good friend, but are always scared or angry at you. This dumb friend say something to good friend that make them happy and excited. You tap on clear wall and point to dumb friend, then good friend, "Happy?""Yes, happy. Friends come home." They show happy teeth. "Friends go out caves!"They make happy teeth face at dumb friend and then you.Dumb friend make teeth face at good friend then you. You see their eyes and then their biting teeth. Not happy teeth.Biting teeth.Dumb friend has biting bug in them! Good friend not know. You shout and bang on clear-wall. Good friend feels confused. Aside from some bruises, you are mostly recovered from yesterday’s misadventure and take some time to review your refurbished suit. The whip is fully installed in your right arm, although it remains mostly a retractable steel tether for the moment. The foreign power supply has replaced your previous battery, alleviating any concerns regarding running low on power. Also, the control system has been modified, giving you a wider range of sonic power. You can now easily use widespread, low-power bursts and high-power narrow aimed bursts in addition to your normal sonic blasts. And, of course, you’ve fitted body armor into the suit. It’s nothing too elaborate, simply some Kevlar worked into the arms, legs, and torso. Your head and joints are still vulnerable, but it should offer decent protection until Stark delivers on his offer of an armored suit.Checking all the systems are clear, you activate the harness and for the second time, you step into another world. Focusing your mind on a safe area, away from wendigo and other threats, you vibrate through the dimensions. You land in the snow.Looking around, at first all you see is fields of white amidst the swirling snowstorm. Then you begin to make out the landscape. There is a gentle ridge running along your left and a soft amber glow seems to come from over the side of it. In front of you, the ridge slowly evens out and a flat stretching field of snow swirls to the horizon, or as much of it as you can make out.To your right is a gentle sloping plain obscured by the shadow cast by the ridge.Behind you, the ridge slowly narrows and merges with the darker plain. You hear a muffled but loud thump, like a large soft form striking another, in the darkness to your right. >>2153766>>2153775>>2153726>Let us try to chase the creature away. You direct the wide sonic burst directly at the beast at a safe distance. The beast shakes its terrible head and directs its wild-eyed mad gaze at you. You follow your burst up with another and the beast lurches off the vehicle, landing with a crunch onto the snowy ground. The vehicle rocks and shifts in the snow, tilting further.Rearing its head back, the massive walrus bellows an enraged howl and rapidly charges away from the terrible sounds. As you approach the vehicle, it becomes clear what happened, the vehicle came upon an fissure and partially fell in. You suspect a few powerful blasts to the right areas might right it so that you can access the inside better, but there is a chance that might cause the thing to sink deeper or even crack the fissure and lose it entirely. The vehicle was apparently designed for snow travel, with front skis and treads on the back, but also heavily shielded against radiation. This vehicle was either built after the nuclear winter or planned for it.The technology of the vehicle looks impressive, but the outside bears no remarkable improvements. You step closer and peer into the window on the side door to assess the interior when a bare hand slaps the glass! There are people inside! It looks like two healthy looking men are inside the vehicle, without radiation suits. The walrus’ attack seems to have damaged the door as well as some of the equipment in the interior. You can’t hear them, but the men inside keep pointing to their controls and pointing back over the ridge.>Confidently try to upright the vehicle with your sonic weapon>Explore the direction they point, over the ridge.>Cautiously remain here, trying to communicate better with the men through gestures.>write-in
>>2153790>the outside bears no remarkable improvements over current technology.
Try to communicate for a bit, but I’m guessing they want us to bring help. Blasting seems too dangerous, as does breaking the windows. Maybe try asking them if they want to risk breaking the windows instead of going for help?
>>2153920Also if they keep pointing, go in the direction indicated... carefully
>>2153920>Try to communicate for a bit>>2153930>if they keep pointing, go in the direction indicated... carefullyYou take several more moments trying to communicate, try to indicate you mean them no harm, attempt to get more information from them, and they seem adamant that you go over the ridge. The slightest indication of breaking the windows seems to horrify them. Your radiation sensor indicates the presence of radiation, but nowhere near the levels of where you fought the wendigo and certainly nothing like what killed your friend. They could probably survive being outside for a short while with minimal sickness, but you decide to not risk it.You trek over the ridge, which is not too steep but the snow makes it more treacherous. You slip and struggle a little to get over it in the snowstorm, but the sight you see through the storm on the other side is more than reward enough.A few hundred yards away, there are many human structures, houses, sheds, several large domed structures connected together, a tall tower with a massive red octahedron spinning atop it like a beacon.Around the houses and buildings, trees and lush gardens are growing and you think you see a pond.Over all of it, presumably keeping the snow, cold, and radiation at bay, is an impossibly large force-shield. Drifts of snow lie against the field as if it was as solid as matter, and yet it’s clearly energy. You can’t even imagine the power needed to maintain the shield against all this for as long as it clearly has. That is extraordinarily impressive technology.Near the largest domed building against the shield, there are a set of doors like a hangar, which would seem to be an entrance.>Rush up to the hangar doors and try to alert them about the vehicle.>Slowly and stealthily approach the hangar doors from the side, appraising possible defenses.>Wait on the ridge, get low, and watch the shielded facility. >write-in

As you approach, you see a number of cameras, but no weapons or sentries. When you are about twenty feet away, a voice distorted by speaker from within the hangar doors demands that you “Halt!”Continuing to be non-threatening, you comply. After an awkward silence, you are about to shout to the door about the vehicle when the voice continues, “Are- are you coven?”Another voice immediately shouts “What kind of stupid- What are they going to say, ‘Yes! I can’t safely get them out myself and could use your help. After another few moments there are some loud sounds behind the hanger door and another voice comes through.“Take a few steps back, mate.”You immediately comply, jogging a few steps out of the way.The hangar doors slide to the left and another sled vehicle like the first roars past you before sliding to a stop. “Well mate, hop on and show me what you have to show me and we’ll see what we can sort out.”When you pause, he adds “There’s a ladder with a good grip and footing on the side there, it should work fine.”Once you are onboard, he tears through the snow, slowly only slightly to clear the ridge, and stopping a short distance from the other vehicle. He instructs you on how to uncover the hook and winch on the outside of his vehicle. You make quick work of attaching it to the other sled and pulling it free. You reluctantly resume your perch on the ladder and the man brings both vehicles and you into the hangar. Immediately after the hangar doors close, there is an automated voice warning you to close your eyes and then the room is flooded with a bright, pulsing pale blue light.A door on the far end of the hangar opens and a tall, very handsome red haired man stormed in wearing a tailored jumpsuit and holding a large assault weapon of some sort. “Meyers! What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”The second vehicle opens up and an athletic man steps out. “I was doing my job, Governor. If you don’t like the way I do it, then replace me and I’ll go dig rock or shovel fertilizer, or whatever else you want and my wife won’t have to worry so much. Yeah?“Meantime, I’d like to meet the new guy who helped save our guys.”“For all we know, he endangered them in the first place!”“No it was a giant walrus!” The men from the first sled managed to break out through their door now that they really wanted to. “He chased it off and then went for help after we got knocked into that fissure.”“Ah. Well, then, if that’s the case. Good. But, we still need to know where he comes from and what he’s doing here.”“I’d just tell the Governor, mate. Also if there’s a society here, we might want to discuss things with our earth’s authorities to establish some sort of formal relationship and clean up legal gray areas. Also some research on consequences of world hopping might be in order.
>>2154143>some research on consequences of world hopping might be in order. The answer to this depends on what you mean by "consequences".>2140107>"to have created the ability to slip into an alternate reality without creating a detectable tear in the fabric of reality is impressive technology."Tony was referring to the fact that most interdimensional travel causes ripples and, to some degree, damage in space/time.This can be used to detect travelers and cause problems if it is done poorly, roughly, or excessively.Your tech is the eco-friendly, stealth version of interdimensional travel.>>2154143>if there’s a society here, we might want to discuss things with our earth’s authorities to establish some sort of formal relationship and clean up legal gray areas.Sounds very "up and up" of you.You haven't heard of any authorities that would cover this and, although I am sure that SHIELD would be interested, your familiarity with them is negligible.

Maybe he could point us in the right direction.Establishing formal relations could help these guys a lot if they are struggling in the messed up reality, and give us good position with authorities on both sides, and make it easier to set up a larger scale operation in the other world. It would also shield (pun intended) us from parties interested in figuring out source of our sudden bouts of creativity. Another threat this would neutralize is various agencies in our World taking offense about using alternate universe variants of their technology, forcing us to come clean in the end anyway as we defend ourselves from charges of plagiarism and industrial espionage.

He seems to appraise you for a moment, and you do the same. He is clearly healthy, which is remarkable enough this irradiated world, but he is actually extremely fit. Unlike the other one, Meyers, who was clearly fit due to athletics, the governor had the sculpted form of a body builder. And yet, you spotted a long ponytail with short hair in the front.Dear lord. This community has a governor with a mullet. Truly this is a horrific alternate world.Whatever assessments he seemed to making about you, he finished with a dismissive wave. “I’m sure you have impressive technology to have arrived here safely, but we don’t need any of your technologies. Mister provides us with all the technological support we need. ““You don’t understand, I would be willing to trade for your technology…”“Oh, I’m sure you’d like to! But you don’t have anything we need, so you might as well go back to wherever it is that you came from. And you can tell your coven masters that we won’t be so easily fooled.”Meyers interjects “Come on man, you know there are things we need. We-“The governor snaps back “We have all we need! Or are you saying Mister doesn’t provide everything we need?” This halts him for a moment. “Well, no. No, I’m not saying that. But there’s things plenty that we’d like around here and there’s nothing within cooee of here that’s not been picked over. We can at least ask. What say you check with Mister and I’ll give him the tour.”At the expression on the governor’s face, he adds, “Don’t worry, I won’t show him into any of the buildings, just walk around the inside of the fields and such.”With that, he places his arm around your back and turns to walk you through another door on the other side of the hangar. The governor calls out to him as you both start to walk away. “Keep your eyes on him at all times, Meyers! Or it’ll be your ass!”Meyers replies with a confirmatory wave without slowing or looking back. Whispering in a conspiratorial tone he voices “Sorry about that. He’s always cranky like that.” He escorts you down a hallway, through and armored door, and outside into a garden path...

But if you had a line on quality food, maybe some canned goods? Then you’d be popular. Of course, there’s raw materials and such that Mister will probably ask you for, but I just no about the day to day stuff around here. >>2157755>So this Mister fellow is leader of this settlement?"Oh yeah, I mean, the governor there runs the in and outs of most of the daily activities around here, but Mister built this place. I mean, not really, I think. I figure some of this was an old science station. I mean, you can tell by the design of the older buildings."But none of us would be here it weren't for him. He set up the shield, got that beacon calling anyone half the world away to come to safety, and works all the time to make science junk to make us food and clothing and tools, or whatever. He's great, as far as the guy in charge of saving our butts goes.">How do you keep it shielded and powered?"Well, as for why that shield kicks so much ass, I can't really say cause I don't understand it. Mister said it's like three different kinds of shields that he super-charged and I think it's supposed to be based on an idea to fix global warming, or something."The power, yeah, that's- nah nevermind." Sensing there is something bothering him, you press for more information. "Go on, it's okay if wanted to say something.""Well, it's probably nothing, but I never understood how we have limited power for a lot of things we need, I mean, we get by and it's fine, it's great! And it seems like every time I think to bring it up, something comes up and it gets forgotten. But what do I know, science isn't exactly my thing, you know.">Are there more communities like this one or is this the only one?"I take it you've been on your own?"Yeah, there's probably lots holed away in places. But the only two I know of are the damned coven conclave, or whatever they call it, and there's apparently one across the globe that had Mister worried bad until he did something to the beacon to keep them from finding us. As bad as the coven is, those other boys are supposed to be worse somehow.>What is this Coven I was or am suspected of being a part of?"You probably never caught their name, but they're the arseholes who took credit for tricking the world into blowing itself up. I sorted them out, permanently.">What can you tell me of history of this place? Or your take on the doomsday in general?"I got to Beacon fairly late. After the world started hurlin' nukes at the latest & greatest bad guy, me & some mates I was in a group with holed up with our wives and what not. When that went to shite, me & the Mrs. took off towards the signal. Mister took is in & even made me head of security on account of my expertise. Ain't that some irony?"You can tell his quick joke hides a lot of pain, & some guilt.
>>2157772>it becomes a question of volume. How many people are we talking about getting cold beers here?"The exact numbers of people are one of those things that I am not supposed to share, but unless trade is going to be a regular thing, we could use a few trucks full.">You seem to be fairly self-sufficient in here, what were those men doing outside? They get attracted by the light from the shield and then follow heat or smell and try to get inside."A while back, before my time, there was an issue with something called a wendigo, too. Plus, Mister has is on the lookout for something big and dangerous called a marko."

We should do more scouting.Although on our next trip we could bring a cart with some sample goods, maybe?
>>2157844>Ask what his community produces that they'd be willing to trade for these goods.Well, like you said, we're mostly self-sufficient. We don't really produce surplus goods. But you said something about technology before and I'm sure Mister can help you out somehow.

After a full tour of their inner fields and a discussion with one of the head farmers, you narrow down that there is a selection of seeds and chemicals they need most. Fertilizer, they explain, they can make but they need certain materials they can't produce in enough quantities to matter. They do have a few cows and a growing population of chickens, but meat is a rare luxury as well. The variety of their fresh food is severely limited with the bulk of their grain is used as animal feed and a large portion of their crop is potatoes. It turns out that they are mostly eating processed protein bars provided by the Mister."You can live off 'em, but they taste like shit." Meyers jokes.A head from the manufacturing buildings (which you were not allowed access to) came out and presented you with a tablet containing a list of rare metals and chemicals they could use for continued production. Some are rare and expensive at home as well.Meyers adds the farmers requests to the tablet and tells you that you can keep it.Walking you back to the side door to the hangar bay, he thanks you in advance for any help you can offer and assures you that he's certain that Mister will compensate you fairly. When you get inside, the governor is waiting for you with a smug look and folded arms."So, you can see how great we have it here, can't you? We don't really need to trade with you, but Mister has agreed to humor you."He snatches the tablet from you and makes a production of reviewing the list before attaching a small device to it, typing furiously for a moment, detaching the device, and handing it back with a smirk."How many weeks do you think it will take you to bring what you can back, if you make it?""Oh, it should take only a day to get everything, maybe two."The governor drops his smirk and his jaw.Meyers chirps up "Really mate?
