With a groan you roll over to your side and do your utmost to avoid opening your eyes to the bright light trying to worm it’s way inside your head. Everything in your body is complaining about the fact you’re alive, which is becoming an astoundingly familiar sensation on awakening in the morning. At least you hope it’s morning. As you give up the battle to get back to sleep your eyes slowly open to find that rather than daylight, it is the fire of Lexington’s common room that stirred you awake from where you lay. Your clothing has been changed, a glorified shawl covering your full body and the veritable nest of bandages and stitching that make up the majority of your body right now.A short breath to steady yourself and then you begin exploring your wounds with ginger touches and where that is unfeasible your mind. From the tenderness in your chest and stomach with every breath - your ribs are probably in more pieces than you have gold in your coinpurse. That revelation makes you realise that your left arm might be broken - probably actually the wrist since it’s only fine motor movements causing you pain.Small Mercies.
>>2126056It is with this thought you pull yourself to your feet, taking in more air through your teeth than a drowning man in his last moments as the pain in your chest begins racing around from your waist to shoulders and back again. A quick glance at the mirror shows you that your name is more fitting than ever, with bruising colouring you all over; between the spots of pale white your skin is stained with blotches of black purple that make you look like some serving wench or camp follower who’d met with a particularly nasty customer. It’s with a limp you begin making your way to the wagon’s opening; noticing that although the couch on which you slept had been righted - not much else was restored to working order. In fact, the wagon cabin is more of a ruin than a dwelling, multiple signs of fire damage nestle in between the ruckus that happened. In Mido. The dreamless sleep that you were emerging from feels like a world away as you work your way to the opening with the realization of what today is at the forefront of your mind, it’s going to be difficult. In fact even knowing what you’re walking into out there is enough to make you consider fleeing for the first time in your life - but you can’t do that… Not now.Luc needs you today, one last time.
>>2126058When you look outside what you see is something of a dream, a small clearing in fall has been turned into a veritable mausoleum. A small pyramid of smooth grey stone has been risen up and adorned with lines of red that could be ruby to your untrained eyes. In fact, the little touches like integrating small berry bushes around the base and the boughs of nearby trees holding bright white lanterns physically cause the breath to catch in your throat.“Vernon can be such a sveetheart sometimes huh.” Honamurei mutter conspiratorially from behind you. “Each of those vhite lights… he says zey can never be moved or altered, vhich goes for the pyramid too.”“But won’t someone rob his grave.” You mutter, trying to temper expectations slightly,“Vith ze vards I vitnessed him cast. No vay. Zoes Orbs let him know vhat is going on here at any time, like some kind of beacon.” She smiles, “Ve can come visit vhenever.”“It’s time.” Lex interrupts from ahead, not even looking up from the stone slab he has called from the ground. You can just see the top of Luc’s hair and the tips of his toes.“Ok.” You answer. For the rest of your life you will hold on to the fact that you did your utmost to observe the funeral rites of Luc with rapt focus; but every second you stood silently with Hona’s hand on your own in that clearing is nothing but a blur. Lexington did everything to ensure the best possible divine favour from Octavius; Minerva’s brother and God of both of Luc’s parents. The funeral is given in Ghenrisian, no women speak, the fires are all red and it is given at dawn. The burning is done via the conjuration of Lava, poured into an opening through the top of the pyramid by Vernon Lexington. Honamurei is the only one there to support you when your legs begin to tremble or feel your hand begin to shake. A slight smile plays on her face as she coos into your hair and breath in her scent. But the tomb is sealed and the book of life for Luc De Matthieu-Remy is closed forevermore. A tragically short life brought to an end untimely, but honoured with as much respect and reverence as a King. It is not enough to erase the blood on your hands. But the ache dulls slightly as you all raise teacups to your lips in memory of the best brewer you will ever meet.
>>2126061The first sight of the Academy is simply a spire rising on the horizon, the polished metal tower that points up to the heavens seeming to ripple and dance in the early morning drizzle as the wheels of your wagon drag your party forward at a snail’s pace. For the first time you notice how quiet the wagon is, as the sound of a forest in Fall accompanies the next few hours of seemingly insignificant travel really brings that silence to the fore of your mind.Neither of your companions seem particularly inclined to break the natural soundtrack, lost in their own grieving, memory or simply pondering on what lies ahead in the Academy. Now isn’t the time to bother them however, now is simply the time to look at the brilliant white walls with wonderment. Now is the time to stare at the brilliant blue steel gates as they slowly part revealing a bustling metropolis. Every face is as agape with wonder at yours as you see a fully formed inquisition garrison arrayed at the side of the entrance plaza; the shining white armour and equipment seemingly the closest contrast to the explosion of colour around them. Stores of trade goods, silk to wool to steel to jewels all share space here; strange designed stores with exterior stairs leading to semi-enclosed semi-open, stall cum storefronts that are heaving with uniformed students with different coloured caped and visitors ranging from barbarian to noble. The slight sound of musical notes hang over the crowd's incessant joy as laughs and shrieks of children wrestle with the countless performers who dance, sing and play on the street corners. A trio of centaurs test the grip on a weapon stores’ Battleaxe and share conversation with a Si-Shanti. To your left A hobbit kisses an Orc on the cheek as he dons a butcher’s apron and chef hat on the way out the door.Honamurei is audibly Oohing and Ahhing at the sparkling city of colour. She may not notice the coy smile that Lex is turning in your direction, but you do - a slight bit of shame colours your cheeks and you manage to restrain your reactions. But as you turn towards the mighty silver, shining pillar that is reflecting light all across the many streets of Academy City; you think you’re going to like it here.
>>2126067You hate it here. This cramped office where the excitable lady dressed like maid burdened you with sixteen folders of paperwork is now your vision of purgatory. In fact, whilst you consider yourself dutiful and diligent, something about having to recount details of every magical or martial encounter you’ve experienced is unsettling. You feel naked, as well as inept due to being unable to fill out whole swathes of the first folder’s necessary fields. Honamurei has toiled beside you as best as is able, but your lover was in a foul mood from the minute her quill touched paper, cating the space with a colourful selection of curses in both of her languages. It’s distracting, even if amusing. Eventually Lexington excused himself from the tiny room citing errands that needed running, leaving just the two of you to work away in the silence.Your torturer came back, apparently eighty minutes later with a sweet roll and a drink of fruit juice for each of you. The slight smell of rum coming off her cup was unmistakable and the fingers on your non writing hand twitched at the lack of sharing. “My name is Bella.” She said, looking a lot less flustered than your first encounter, “Sorry for throwing the paperwork at you and leaving but it’s a busy day for me.” Her smile is so warm that it distracts you from the black and white bars that demand your attention, “I’ll be your dorm keeper…” She tries and fails to subtly glance at the back of her ink stained hand; revealing a set of horns.”Purps! Unfortunately your friend Li-”“Hona,” You cut in, desperately not wanting to deal with that fiasco.“Hona will be under Miranda.” Bella finishes, the woman take a loooong drag of rum. “So ve vont be-” Hona begins, a slight shake in her voice.“Ahhhhh,” Bella exhales before regaining her posture, “No you’ll be in seperate wings. It’ll be good for you two!”“Bu-” Hona begins,“We don’t-” You try to protest.“Oh! Got to run! I’ll see you two girls for fitting tomorrow morning! Buhbye!” In a black and white blur she’s gone. The candles within flickering as the heavyset woman moves like a cat from water. In her wake is only an awkward silence. Honamurei looks furious, whilst the prospect of being away from her sends ice down your back; after all, you only really feel normal around her. Surprisingly, she tries to lighten the mood - “Oh you’re at ze end too!” She flips several of her unfinished stacks over, pretending she was at the same form you were; “Vhat subjects are you going to choose?”“Well, I was hoping Lex would be able to advise us, but it seems like this our own choice.” You monotone trying your utmost to smile. This is going to determine a whole year of your life, not exactly a small decision is it?ANY COMBINATION OF THESE 2:> Martial> Magic> Crafting> History & Statecraft> Survival> Medicine> Economics> Survival & Beastiary

You try to ignore the conspicuous glances thrown your way by Hona and focus, this isn't about what she wants you to pick it's about what you want you to pick.So you take Survival and beastiary; thinking of Balthazaar, the Wolf Men at Rono Pass and the many varied monsters and creatures that stalk the world. Nevermind the many hostile environments, North to South there are countless ways to die simply due to ignorance of the terrain. "Okay. I'm done." You announce feeling the papers yanked from your hands as Hona's eye begins pouring over the documentation."Ve both took martial! So ve might be in same class for zat! But Ve vont be able to share the other." Even when she's pouting and sighing her sing-song voice is chipper."Well, we don't know how much time we'll have." You admit, regressing into your dead stare and voice. "What did you take Hona?""Oh, I took Martial and Magic!" She smiles, handing your documents back sheepishly."Magic?" You ask stunned, she had shown no affinity or inclination toward magic. "Why?""Vell, Lexington's teaching it right? Plus he's so ridiculously, strong! Vell, if I learn from him I'll be like - a hundred time better right!?" Her enthusiasm is pretty damn infectious and you find your tension lessening slightly as you both begin arranging the scattered paper mountain into the respective folders so you can leave. "Right.." Noon is fast approaching, since it has taken about two and a bit hours since you started filling out forms - your stomach is a bit empty. Though, you do have other concerns on your mind as you walk out of the backwater office space and into the bustling backstreet of The Academy.> [WORRY] We should look into getting your eye fixed up> [LUST] We don't know when we'll have the chance to sneak off together again> [LOVE] I have enough gold for drink, dancing and dining?> [FEAR] Wasn't Lex supposed to be back by now?> Write-In

You ask your lover, causing her to put a finger on her lip and look up at the sky in thought."Um, he just vent to do errands. Turning around you find yourself staring at the charming smile of Tornin; a fox man that you enjoyed a quite spirited rivalry with way back in Grinnsmon. "When I saw that old rickety wagon rolling into the Academy I just knew you'd be here." he offers his hand, managing to look self satisfied at hi own conclusion reaching. "And I see you brought Sarge too." He completely disregards Hona and you can feel her cheeks and temper rising as you shake his hand in confusion, "How are you?" "I'm doin' great. Enrolled here as the first step on that better life you suggested," is ears twitch, "It sure as helll beats the same old trees in the same old wilderness.""Well yeah, this is on a whole different scale." You answer, keeping the ocnversation going more on instinct than any conscious thought, "What about your family?""Oh," He shrugs, "They were all for gettin' rid of me. Think I was causin' too much trouble even as a guard." "That's too bad." You say with genuine sympathy. Whilst his father enjoyed you showing him up - the guard job would be a nice compromise between him going off on his own into the wild world and staying in the family business. Things rarely work out so neatly though, "How's the busienss?""Boomin' and Borin'. "I-gottago." She eventually blurts out sprinting off into the crowd. You barely have time to react, nor could you catch her regardless. She's off at top speed; causing enough blowback on her start that your legs shake and a grunt of pain comes to your mouth unbidden. Luckily for you Torning braces you, eeping you upright in the alleyway. "You guys have a weird fuckin' relationship don't you?""Shut up Tornin." You say simply, trying to wipe grease off of your chin with a thin paper napkin."I'm taking Martial and Magic. Part of the conditions of my enrollment are that I take on extra tutelage on Economics in case I'm needed to take over the business." Tornin takes a long drink of his watered down ale, looking anywhere but at you. Honestly rather than embaressed, he just looks kind of annoyed."Why would I laugh at that? It's not funny just sounds annoying." You conclude, crunching a bone for punctuation."Thought you would rub it in my face, y'know?" Tornin admits. "Guess you're not as much of a bitch as I thought." He smirks, hoping to get a rise out of you."I'm much more of a bitch than you thought; the fact is I only rub things in your face when you actually give me competition." Torning laughs, as if you're making a joke. You don't correct him of the notion because aside from the rapidly bruising jaw - you think he's been needing to blow off some steam for a while. "I gotta run and catch up with a guy who's waiting on a package from the guild." Tornin stands up and dusts himself off as best as he can, he looks like he wants to say something but starts walking off like this lunch was a regular thing you do. He waves over his shoulder with one hand an in lieu of goodbye simply says; "Take care of yerself Purps.""You too." The materials making up a veritable rianbow of colour and absense of colour as each of them mark out their patron; Gine, Meridas, Gal, Io, Keil, Wu.A divine who's who, across multiple pantheons. Each God or Godess standing shoulder to shoulder with friend and foe in the gated culdesac. Your eyes are drawn to the white sandstone building, the afternoon sunlight seeming to shine stronger upon it than the surrounding structures. Like a moth to flame you enter it; each step upon the worn and well travelled tiles lessening the phyiscal strain on your body.First you feel the limp in your leg lessen, then disapear completely. Then your arm's pain lessens to the point the makeshift sling feels wholly unecesarry. Finally, your chest stops aching and sending knives through you with every breath; instead a fire filling you as spectral wings form behind your back. You glow, as your Zen form completely overtakes you. A slight smile on your lips as your body and mind accept the welcome releif from the burdens of the present and past. One more thing to thank Minerva for, but you haven't prayed since... Yeah it's been a while.Standing before the altar, an statue of a smiling woman with flames for hands bids you to kneel without movement or sound. You obey and find yourself hesitating on what to say.> [WORRY] Hey Minerva, You've been quiet. >>2128652>>2128599>>2128570>>2128569>>2128568 Hello Minerva. I'm sorry I haven't prayed as much lately. I've... not been feeling very conservational. You take a moment to look up at the intricacies of the Minervan statue's carving. The wavy beauty of the hand wrought craftsmanships on the flamehands is enchanting and helps you focus on the small fire within you.Minerva, thank you for relieving the pain in this short window of relief, thank you for aiding me against the dragon. Thank you... for everything. Having you by my side since Grinnsmon has made the weight of the battles I've fought much more bearable. In all honesty, having your voice and spirirt within me... has been invaluable. So I hope I've done you proud. You feel the touch of Minerva in your mind, fainter than all the other occasions you've spoken - but it is there nonetheless. Purps, my friend. You never have to thank me for anything. Your companionship is as appreciated as mine is to you. You can't help but smile at her praise, a short fleeting reaction she picks up on. You are really too kind to be Minerva. The voice in your head is almost maternal when it corrects you, the ethereal whisper managing to hold a sense of curt authority; You smiling once again is enough thanks and payment for my aid, relax and enjoy this new start. But everything that happened is- The fire within you burns bright as Minerva preempts your self inflicted guilt trip, It is not your fault what happened with Luc. Nor what happened with Honamurei. This self flagellation is uncouth and unwarranted - should you keep it up I will come to your dreamscape and slap some snese into you. For some reason this causes you to smile warmly, despite the tears that are streaming down your cheeks. You don't know what is going on with your emotions right now, but your Godess laughs with you; I am glad that having someone talk some sense into you is allowing you to vent. But since you don't like others seeing your vulnerability you should cork this dam of emotion. Wait what do you mean Minerv-You have company. We'll talk soon. Minerva vows her presensce in your mind fading."Uh, are you okay?" A female voice asks. turning around and adopting your instinctive blank face; you behold a blonde woman entering the temple. On her back is a greatsword inlaid with pulsing black runes that make your head spin upon percieving them - the warrior woman's kind features are welcomign and soft.> [PRIDE] I am fine. She laughs and fidgets with the hilt on her greatsword - "Sorry everyone says I stick my nose where it doesn't belong.""Well I'm not complaining; it was very kind of you to try and help." You compose yourself as best you can, but your eyes must be red from whatever outpouring of emotion Minerva forced out of you."You're sure there's nobody I can like, beat up for it?" She offers, giving you a hopeful smile. "I'm not good at talking or giving advice; but I'm really tough."You fake a laugh and place your hand out to be shaken, "No. But I really am grateful. What was your name?"She shakes it with a firm grip; you don't think she means to go for the hand crush but soon you're gripping back just as hard. Like a snake her grip tightens, leading to the most miniscule escalation of force seen on the continent as neither of you lets up. "I'm Jo Barnedias! My family have been the mayors of Marioburg for like - Six generations.""Well Jo, I'm Purps." You gingerly lessen your grip and both of you extract yourselves, "I'm... well I don't know what I am but I'm going into first year.""Me too! Hopefully we share a dorm; I've been worried that some of the illegals would be in my dorm; but a fellow Minervite would be welcome!" She positively beams at the news and honestly, it's nice to have another woman of similar height to you for once. Even if she is stockier than a tower shield as opposed to your runners build; it's nice having a tall gal pal."The term is Minervan Jo." You correct sheepishly."Gosh Darn it, I never get that right." "What do you mean... illegals?""Oh, you really don't know much about this place do you?" Jo says, the look on her face does not sit well... It's like pity, excitement and happiness mixed together. You don't know her well enough to hazard a guess why, but you think she's just happy to be helpful - "This is a sanctuary. None of the laws outside apply here unless the Mayor and Headmaster implement them.""Which means obvious things like no murder get implemented. But they allow a much less regulated society." You muse aloud, "Taxes and economics that don't have to follow Munisian or Cadalonian... Even the social law differences could be staggering.""Yeah! They even allow illegal religions like Wu and-""Darna worship." You spit. "Yeah! And we can't even lock them up or attack them! It's like they don't get that by allowing the cannibals to worship, we can't have our own religious freedom." Jo pouts but her eyes light up, "Thank goodness someone else understands what I'm worried about."Despite growing frustration you manage to keep you straight face, "You were just worried about a cannibal sharing your room. That is natural." Stepping past her with a stiff back, Jo notices your discomfort."Hey don't worry, they told me no Darnite has studied here in like; eighty years." She shouts after you. Instead of responding you make a noncommital gesture over your shoulder and begin making your way out. So lost are you in you're own thoughts you don't even register the familiar figure until you collide with her in plain view of the two inquisition guards. Both of you collide like hammers on an anvil, sending waves of agony throughout your body and leg as you fall on your ass. You're not alone in your embarresment though; as the offender fell onto her ass too. As you stop wincing you take full notice of her; "Hey. Didn't expect to see ya here." She says in faux cheer full of hatred. "Prayin t'yer traitor Godess eh?"[The Fist of Darna]'s eyes hold fury that you send right back. But an insquisition member begins helping each of you to your feet, the whit armour catching the sunlight as you feel yourself get very distant.Maria.... Of.....Darna...."What's the matter. His monotone is a mirror of your own, "Whilst this incident will not be officially logged or punished; this is a rare ocassion of leniency that you should appreciate."You look down at him, trying not to let the any problems you have with this situation show as you adress him - "I'm not sorry for what I did. True Minervans should be fighting them at every turn." The man strokes his patchy beard and smiles, "I'm not saying you're wrong. The Inquisition is a Minervan organisation Miss; but you have to remember the bigger picture." He adjusts his long scarf in what appears to be a nervous habit.Though you want to just backtrack and beat Maria's brains out, you look at your apparent eductaor with scepticism, "I don't see a bigger picture here. That woman is a murderer and a pyshcopath; on top of being absurdly powerful."He sighs and lights a cigarette; guiding you off the path to the shadow of a business that either trades in pleasures of the flesh or massges. Judging by the moans of stress relief drifting out of the red tinted windows; "Look. The world is torn apart by this war. There's only two or three, known places where it can be escaped from." As he inhales you take one of your own stash of cigarettes out and join the tired gunner in his break silently. The two of you must look like old friends recieving bad news. Both of you hiding in the shadow of a whorehouse, you bearing a blank face and his eyes looking sunken & tired."The Academy, The Wildlands and Armageddon. One is an annual festival, the other is suicide and the third... Well the third might be the only reason the head honchos on both sides haven't done some crazy ritual to murder bloodlines or released a magical uncurable plague."
>>2130576You nod silenlty while you exhale a cloud of smoke, what he's saying makes a small modicum of sense. Lex has implied the Senator to be leagues above himself; considering it isn't hard to imagine Lex knowing how to reduce Cadalon to a crater... "I thought the reason was because the rebels wanted to rule upon victory and the Loyalists want to defend what they have."He smiles, but it's insincere; "Kid I hope you believe that both sides are above total war - but they ain't. The Cadalonians had all their starborn genocided in the subjugation and the rebellion work with psychopaths, Darnites and worse. Even being Cadalonian or born in a loyalist town has the potnetial to get a child killed these days.""Only if they run into an enemy." You counter, but it seemed he was expecting this as he offers up a hand for silence.."Yeah. But the thing is about a civil war; not many large scale field battles with banners and shit." He frowns and looks up at the sky with a squint, "I gotta run back to post." He says eventually. His cigarette is crushed beneath his heel and hand extended a second later. "Nerrick.""Purps." You shake firmly, but his grip is gentle; almost as if he didn't want to hurt you. "Don't be a stranger.""I'll see you around." He assures you, "I'd be surprised if someone like you didn't get into some kinda trouble." Unfortunately, before you can protest your innocence or even offer a comeback to his slight jab - Nerrick has turned and walked away. A creature no bigger than your foot sailing across the street and down into the ground of a dark alley, a high pitched yelp and shuddering crunch following it into the darkness. Peering around the edge of the house you were approaching into the narrow dank passage, your guard is firmly raised. The whimpering is not enough to dull your sense of caution, after all this world has thrown at you - an ambush would hardly be the least expected thing today. With all the haste of a hungover reveller, you pick your way through the derbis and detrius.Trying to ignore the smell off urine that clings in the air, you see that one the vases has been shattered, with a small pool of blood pooling out of it's remains. What's obvious is that the whimpering is coming from the jagged pile of shards and when you move some of them aside with the back of your hand; a canine mouth snaps out at your hand in desperation. As you yank back the hand far faster than the incoming attack; you're given your first look at the wounded creature. A tiny little ball of brown and orange fur, pretty much a fox cub. In fact that's exactly what you'd call it were it not for the Bird eyes and wings. The creature is defiant despite the obvious pain it is in, as the last long piece of ceramic is taken away; the little animal lunges at your hands to attack.Capturing it is as easy as moving your hand down slightly to scoop it up midpounce, the shriek of confusion from the sudden ascent almost makes you lose concentration and giggle. But the animal's excitement at being up high distracts it also, fortunately this allows you to tear some of your sling from your bad arm and loop is over his mouth. Though he protests while you tighten the not around his mouth, it sure beats him getting lucky and taking the tip of your finger off or something. For someone so small it must be terrifying being a tiny blot in the crush down the streets of The Academy, everyone a giant as they all hustle on their own way. All of the pained yelps lead you to believe to that the creature is trying to fly away from here, maybe his kind are scared of people? Maybe they belong out in the wild? Honestly not knowing anything of his species makes it a lot harder to guess what's going on in that brain of his. As you hop into the wagon, you immediately note the unusual silence. Without Honamurei or Lex here... The place itself feels like it's in mourning, but other than a second of hesitation you don't give it too much thought. Stepping over the rubble and wreckage that has yet to be cleaned and entering your room; you make sure that the door is closed before you gently let out the animal onto the floor. At first he simply stares at you with hackles raised, his fluffy tail and wings tcked behind him. You barely blink in return, waiting to catch him out whatever ill fated pounce he may attempt. Instead, he starts sniffing and exploring as the curiosity of a child takes hold. Watching the little guy explore your bed makes your mood a little lighter and you use the opportunity to sneak out of the room and secure the door behind you.Thankfully, you now know which strips of cloth and reagents are used for Lex's dangerous experiment. A slight shiver runs down your spine as you recall the last time you looked for bandage materials here and the consquences there of.But today, you return with disinfectant, clean water, some scraps of meat and the cleanest gauze money could buy. Honestly, it's a marvel to see something navigate the world in a similar way to you without the advantage of an enigma or equipment. The sheer speed and grace that the creature displays even while injured is amazing and relative to it's size there's a great deal of power in the canine parts of it's body. Your heart is in your mouth when the little furry bastard detaches from the wood and plummets headfirst towards your first bit of meat; but by the time you're ready to act he's already bitten into the morsel and tore it clean in half with his momentum."Guess you're some inda ambush predator..." You murmur as he begins stalking and pouncing on the tidbits of meat, working his way closer and closer to you with every snack. By the time he's looking for the last piece, it's in your hand and waving it back and forth slightly off the ground. He tenses, crawling along the ground with his claws retracted, practically slithering like a snake as he follows the meat's path with his eyes. At some signal unknowingly broadcast from his prey he leaps, with enough speed that if you were going to withdraw your hand it would require actual effort - but the hunk of meat is taken from your hand as the cub lands on it bodily and begins latching on to what he thinks is a jugular, scraping his talons down the dead flesh's flank in a sudden display of efficiency."Good boy, Fox." You find yourself murmuring. Feeling him clamp around your index finger only elicits a slight intake of air through your teeth. From the sharpness, but weakness of his teeth you reckon he's still very young. But his new position of gnawing on your finger lets you grasp him firmly by the tuft of his neck and lift him over to the disinfectant and water. His little sad yelps and barks make it difficult, moreso than his feeble attempts at wiggling free; but the almost neon orange liquid is applied to a clean rag and ran over his wounds in almost no time at all. Then comes the binding, which in a normal person or animal would be easy to perform - but trying to wrap a tight binding around the back and sides of a creature that has wings where logical biology says he should not is difficult, time consuming and frustrating. The wriggling ceases at least, though that is replaced with another issue - "Fox" has just fallen asleep against your knee. Though you are frustrated at the difficulties of his anatomy, you don't think you can fault the cub for making himself comfortable. Cutting off the last bit of necesarry gauze, reinforcing your rather adhoc vetinary work with a simple loop and knot. Not too bad if you say so yourself.

>>2133395You spend the next hour teasing and talking to Fox, surprising yourself with the ease in which you take to the little sleeping ball of fur. In fact, were it now for how alive you felt whenever you and Hona... you'd say this is the most human you've felt. In a long time at the very least, just sitting on the floor stroking a new pet and talking about nothing to him. However your tranquility is brutally cut down by a series of three knocks at the cabin door; which causes Fox to wake and bark out of instinct. "Good boy." You offer, scracthing under his chin. As you stow him on your shoulder, the little fox nips his head forward and snatches the cigarette from your mouth with a grumbling noise you think is his version of laughter. Instead of tearing it apart, he just drops it to the ground making that odd noise while you navigate the tumultous footing around the living area. Neither Fox's thievery nor the ease in which you hop over the mess is as surpising as the sight awaiting you when you look out. In a day of apparent callbacks, standing before you with a bright smile and a slightly lazy eye is Lucky the caravaneer. Stills porting his ridiculous giant blue hat, "Prevening Miss Firefly! He says the depressing fact plainly and loudly, "Yeah I went an took a solid two weeks off in Lumis!" At some kind of weird, unique noisemakers shop. Honestly you quite agree with Fox that that place is unsettling and want nothing to do with it as you find yourself at the drinking hole known as the Deep Blue Bar. On the door is painted a highly revealing and downright masterful depiction of a naked mermaid; and were it not for the positioning of the door handle and windows - it'd probably have to be taken down for indecency. Then again; if public indecency were an issue here they wouldn't have that stupid noisemaking shop. With a last glance at your fuzzy friend, you enter. For some reason you were expecting a raucous crowd with brawls and bottles flying as the beer flowed like rivers alongside the many pools of blood on the old wood floor. But instead, the Deep Blue Bar is a very somber affair. The selling point seems to be the ocean styled drapery that hangs over the slight stage where a grey haired male singer croons about battles long lost. The lighting is dim as dusk; letting the smoke cling at waist height. The grey haze obscuring the faces of those in tall dark booths and low polished tables alike. From here you cannot make out anything beyond the figures of servers silently and politely moving between tables and booth with drinks stacked so high they look destined to find the floor. This place definently feels more your style than Lex's, throw in some high paced dancing every now and then and you might just start up a tab. Something indescribable, but you have a sense of sanctity at a base level you don't think you've ever felt. Your monotone easews as you conitnue, "I'm Purps, this is my new friend Fox." Fox chooses this moment to wrap around your wrist and try to climb for your shoulder, but your grip is secure enough to show him off, "It's nice to meet you Mr-""My name is professor Haryan Marchis. But I go by Professor or Haryan. My second name is a bit of a sticking point for some folks." The old man gives you a warm smile, holding himself in stark contrast to the focused and hard man opposite him. Where the many wrinkles on Lex's face speak of hard living, warfare or stressful living; Haryan's wrinkles manifest around his lips, cheeks and eyes from a lifetime of smiles and good spirit. For the first time you notice a tiny girl in a red hood, holding Haryan's hand while her other holds a straw. As she drinks she stares at you with uncanny agelessness. Her blue eyes are far more wise and attentive than they should be - the twin pools managing to even unsettle you with their wrongness."Don't listen to him Purps, only person who cares about this fool has his ass on the throne." Lex slurs slightly, but the look in his eyes is of focus; an oddly serious expression across his face. You slide into the booth beside Lex and stare down Haryan as diplomatically as possible, "So, why was I needed here?" You ask in your monotone.Haryan blinks slowly before chuckling, "He's right - you really do sound like you're being rude no matter what you say." He taps the table slightly while Lexington watches on, his drunkeness facade cracking and crumbling with every passing moment. "To be blunt, Vernon told me everything about everything. The extraplanar thing, the Minerva thing, your Dragon thing, Luc, Matt, all of it."Your hand swiftly goes to your hip before you consciously stop it and instead scratch your cheek; thankfully your face is as impassive as ever. But Lex sharing, neverming sharing details about you is both shocking and concerning. Wasn't he the one who touted secrecy as important to someone unaligned?"He talked to me, because he want to know if helping you was the right thing to do." Haryan takes a sip of his drink as a sparkling golden ale arrives for you... With a sniff you smell strawberries and decide to give it a taste test. A bit strong, but it hits the spot."Okay. I'm a bit uncertain over Lexington telling you all of the details of my life thus far. But I understand he was having doubts about me. Especially considering my reaction to Luc's death." You pause, being rational comes naturally to you - but you're not sure you appreciate being backed into a very serious discussion, "What I don't understand is why he came to you, rather than me."
>>2140183"I'm his best friend." Haryan says simply, "But I am also the History, Statecraft and one of the former magic teachers at The Academy." With a flourish he adds, "Despite not being one of you Starborn sons of bitches - I have devoted 104 years to studying our world." This makes you interject, "But wouldn't that make you-""I have added some time to my clock. But I'm human, promise." He holds his hands up as if making and oath and for some reason the little girl next to him is fixated on it. "In short, he trusts my judgement and character.""Which is a rarity." Vernon grumbles, "Trust me, if Haryan had a bad bone in his body, he'd have saved both of us a lot of heart and back ache."Haryan laughs at this, "He calls me a big softie. I just believe in giving people a chance-""No matter how dangerous or stupid they are." Lexington finishes, "But when I told him about you-""I want to see for myself what kind of person I'm vouching for." The world is a mirror that reminds her of her failures and seeing you with Tornin must have been like she was seeing a future failing long before it happened."I'm her mate. But... I'm probably not going to be able to be that for her. At some point I'll forget everything, or lose the ability to care about her and ruin everything." Finishing your drink in four long gulps, you slam the empty down on the table enough to make Rosie jump. "There. If I'm as old as Lex says that is.""Well look; I've studied history and bloodlines all my life. I probably have more records than the actual Imperial record vault. If you want to learn how to research, I'd be happy to teach you and help you dig for any information.""That's... incredibly generous." You respond, not quite believing your stroke of luck. "Did Lexinton put you up to that-""No, but I have no doubt he was aware that I might be able to help you." He looks at his friend with warmth you rarely see between two men, "Clever scheming bastard that he is.""Anything else?" You ask, warming up to this questioning; after all thus far Haryan has been nothing but understanding, welcoming and kind to you."Yeah." He coughs, bringing the mood back to serious in a heartbeat. "After what happened with Luc, you went wild. I want to know how you feel about your actions in Mido."> [ANGER] I'm sorry, I didn't realise you had any right to judge> [PRIDE] I got revenge. "You do realise how that sounds..." He warns gravely, "Like you're some sort of psychopath.""Well let me finish." You snap, Rosie tilting her head at the sudden uptick in agression while The Professor lays his hands on the table to await your followup."For a while, when I was grieving and venting. I thought that killing them all would give me a sense of closure, that vengeance would solve everything." You begin gripping Fox, the little guy nuzzling into your hand inside your pocket, a little bit of reinforcement you desperately needed; "It still hurt. Still does hurt. I've pulled myself together but I'm still hurting underneath. I don't know what to do, whether the answer is killing more of them or what." Lexington lays a hand on your shoulder, "There's no right answer ya know. And I ain't gonna judge yer copin'." He looks to Haryan. "That satisfied you? She's not a picture of mental health and ehtics but she's doin' her best with a limited deck of cards.""Yes. It does. I'm very sorry that we had to go through all of this, but... the last time I vouched for someone it went poorly. So Vernon and I made a set of rules about all future vouching." He looks tired, taking a long stare into his half empty stein. "I'd like to offer myself up as a friendly ear anytime. The things that've happened to you would shake anyone; nevermind a lady with no support structure or longtime confidante.""Speaking of support structure." Lex says downing his drink and your own stolen one in a feat of stealth, "I'm gonna need your shoulder stretch. I don't think I'm wlakin' back to my wagon."At this Haryan lets out a long laugh; long low and bassy. The man's eyes slightly tear up he's laughing so hard, a massive difference to the short barks from earlier. Apparently his whole nervous laughter and chuckling had been faked. Both of these old men have their intrigue down pat it seems."Fine. Let's go Boss." You say, "It was...nice meeting you despite everything. Thank you very much for the offer. I'll bear it in mind.""No problem. Say goodbye Rosie." The girl pouts and makes some signals at Haryan. "No more milk until you say goodbye." At this his familiar punches Haryan, before waving goodbye to you, in a sulk. Tentatively, you return the gesture. As you help Lexington's seemingly drunk ass through the maze of tableshis voice is crisp and clear even if it is only low enough for you to hear, "You said Hona was yer mate?""Yes." You answer, "Why?"He just shakes his head, "We're gonna have to have a talk; the three of us." The grave tone of voice makes your heart and stomach sink. So to hopefully delay whatever bad news is coming you just jump on the first topic in your mind."So a secret society eh?" You nudge his ribs,"What? Are you honestly surprised I'm in a secret society?"

>>2140843I don't know if I would say I liked it the most but the one that stuck with me the most was when Lorelei's home got invaded.
>>2140843Many many MANY new characters this arc, and I'm excited to see where they go and what the do in relation to purps. The arc has just started, and I already have a feeling I'm going to love it. There's nothing really I have to gripe about that you don't already know... but the spelling errors, man... one day there will be a thread free from the tyranny of all spelling errors. Also, Haryan is a cinnamon roll.
