The World of Märchen. A fantastic world of bright pastels, dark shadows and mystical wonder. A world where fantasy is reality and, most importantly, you are a hero. Before you is the craggy castle of the vile Lord Peril; your archenemy and the captor of the beautiful Princess Dawn! In your hand is your trusty companion, the invincible sword of power- EXCALABURST!

“Foolish hero! You are nothing compared to the power of darkness at my disposal! With the princess in hand, I shall rule all of Märchen! Nothing can stop me now!” He cackles at you with his wicked, raspy voice. All you can do is smirk in the face of his arrogance.

“You’re wrong, Peril! With Excalaburst in hand, there’s no evil I can’t vanquish! You’re end is nigh!” Your blade’s glow ignites into a blinding burst of sunlight as you charge up the narrow cliffside pathways at the towering, shadowy form of Lord Peril. A black and purple ball of blackfire appears in his free hand as he winds back to hurl it at you. You leap into the air and-

You wake up to your name being called, you'll have to come back later. Märchen is always a nap away for you...What is your name and where are you?

Guess I won't be here after all

Don't get me wrong, I only keep away from femprotag quests due to yurifags popping up more than people with AIDS in Africa
>>
>>2092644
To be fair, it is as common as harems. Quest MC are almost always either a straight male with too much pussy after him for no reason like in our animes, or a lesbian
>>
>>2092644
>avoiding femprotags
You're really missing out on some good stuff (ie. Hitomi from jojo quest)
>>
>>2092644
What if we all mutually agree to be a straight woman? Not saying we will, but it could happen.
>>
>>2092656
Yeah but yurifags are worse than haremfags.
>>
>>2092656

It's true, if anons are gonna go for a femc. They need to take into account husbandos as well as waifus instead of just going straight for being a lesbian.

There's only one JoJo quest that I've ever followed, and I'll patiently await that one's return.
>>
>>2092669
Okay I agree with this
>>
>>2092674
As I said, you're really missing out
>>
>>2092669

I'll stick around then, but the moment yurifags start popping up I'm either going to back out or I'm going to persecute them like the inquisition

Because I can agree with this anon >>2092671

"Kana-chan! You promised you'd come with me to bakery today! Why'd you have to do that to the teacher? If we miss out on the cherry buns, I'm holding your responsible." The boy at the door folds his arms and stares at you with a pouting expression.

Your neighbor and eternal pain in your side, Yamada Koichi... You've known him since you were kids. He might be your age, but you view him more like a younger brother. His sensitive nature always left him vulnerable to bullies, thus it became your job to beat them away and keep his stuffing on the inside where it belongs. Plus, his mom always treated you to free pastries from their bakery uptown.

You finally are able to free yourself from the prison of a school and quickly walk beside your eager childhood friend.

"So, Kana-chan..." He starts with a wide smile on his face, "Did you the dream again?"

>"Yeah. I was just about to beat the snot out of that Lord Peril when you woke me up."
>"Yeah. I was just about to save the Princess when you woke me up!"
>"Uh... Yeah, but tone it down. I have an image to maintain, you know."

"Uh... Yeah, but tone it down. I have an image to maintain, you know." Your brow furrows as you quickly check your immediate area for prying ears. You let out a small sigh as there's no one you can see around you. You're a bit annoyed at how loudly timid little Yama can just blab about your dreams. That's a bit personal to you.

"You tell me. Did you somehow get telepathy when I wasn't looking, Yama." You place your hands on your hips as you chastise him. His smiles shrinks sheepishly as he lowers his volume a little.

"Oh come on! You always used to tell me about Märchen when we were kids! Just because we're in high school now doesn't mean that has to stop!" You sigh again at his persistence. "So? What happened this time?" You inform your enraptured audience of one about your escapades in dreamland.

"I wish I could have dreams like those. It sounds so exciting! All I ever dream of is being chased by giant cartons of sour milk." He complains as the two of you round the corner. You tense up as you notice two figures standing between you and the bakery.

You recognize them as Takeda and Kirishima. Two Second year boys who have a thing for picking on Yama. No matter how many times you have to send the packing, they always come back for more. They have oddly large grins on their faces today.

Sigh... You really didn't want to deal with these fools today. You place yourself in front of Yama, crack your stiff neck, and pop your knuckles. Your delinquent face must be at the top of its game as you watch the smiles quickly melt off of these two clowns.

"The fuck do you want?" You growl through clenched teeth. Takeda stammers for a second, trying to collect himself, but Kirishima just bolts then and there. His abandoned friend looks around in a panic before following his pal back to whatever hole they crawled out of.

"Wow Kana-chan! You didn't even have to do anything this time!" Yama cheers for you loudly. You allow yourself a smirk at his praise. It feels good to know that the worms remember their place.

Now to the important part: those Cherry buns. Yama's mother seemed to anticipate your tardiness and has saved a bun for both of you. She doesn't seem to approve of your aggressive style, but she appreciates you watching out for her little Koichi.

You and Yama, with half-eaten buns in hand, find your way to the park, sitting at your usual bench.

"Say, Kana-chan," Yama starts, "Do you... do you think Märchen is real?"

"What?" You can't stop yourself from exclaiming in surprise.

"No! I mean... You've dreamed about every night for as long as I've known you. It has to mean something, right?"

>"The only thing it means is that I should stop eating right before bed."
>"Definitely. There's definitely a Märchen. One day I'll find it and prove to the world its real."
>"I... don't know. I haven't really put any thought into it. Dreams are dreams, aren't they?"

You furrow your brow again. What a troublesome question. You've always cherished Yama's childlike wonder. It was a treasure you always thought you had to protect, but... sometimes it was just plain idiotic.

"The only thing it means is that I should stop eating right before bed." You retort dryly before taking another bite of your bun. "Märchen is nothing more than..." You let your sentence die in your throat as you see the downcast look on Yama's face.

"I see. You're right, Kana-chan." He look up at you with a sad smile. "It's just... the way you describe it makes it sound so cool! I wish we could visit it together." Ah shit, he's doing that thing where he gets all sentimental.

You hate it when he does this kind of thing. You want to tell him that fairies and things like that only exist in your dreams. You wish you could take him into that beautiful and fantastic world, but that just isn't possible. Not in real life. You steel yourself and prepare to teach the boy a lesson from the school of hard knocks.

Opening your mouth, you say, "I think your mom is using a new filling recipe. The cherries taste even sweeter than before." Shit. That wasn't it. Looks like you aren't ready to destroy his naive smile just yet.

"Huh? O-Oh yeah, I guess so." Yama blinks and sticks out his tongue to taste filling again. "I'll have to ask her about the new recipe!" He smiles widely again at you.

"Its getting late, Yama. I'll see you at school tomorrow." You dismiss your friend and get up off the bench. He waves goodbye as you walk yourself home. The rest of the night is rather hum-drum. You mother and father talk about their work and gossip about their coworkers and friends before getting drunk and passing out in front of the television. You put the two of them to bed, clean table and take a quick bath.

As you make your way to bed, a cold shiver runs up your spine. Like a sliver of metal tracing your backbone from your ass to your skull. You turn around ready to deck whatever the hell is doing that, but there's nothing behind you. It must have been your imagination running away with you. It used to do that when you were little. Back when you fully bought into this Märchen dream.

You finally lay down in bed and quickly fade away into dreamland. Rather than the wonderful pastel fields of Märchen or the dramatic keep of Lord Peril, you see...

A smokey black void. In the center is a large silver gate with twin chains preventing it from opening. Gargoyles guard it on either side. Above the doors, a round clown's face with plus-shaped eyes sticks its tongue out at you.

You think you can hear voices echoing through the haze. Its difficult, but you think you can make it out.

You strain yourself and are able to make out the gist of things. There are two voices. One is definitely female and the other... maybe another woman? A young boy? You're having a hard time telling. They seem to be discussing something urgently. The first voice sounds even toned, almost condescending. The second one, you're pretty sure its a younger boy now, he seems to be agitated by the woman's tone.

"...We just need one! That'll even the odds!" He says.

"Oh~? Then... you're willing to use it anyway? The Gatekeeper was so hard to find. You'll only have one shot at this. Your champion might not even be that good." The woman warns the boy.

"If the champion isn't up to the challenge then we've changed nothing. I have to try. For the sake of Märchen. Awaken Gatekeeper Pierot! Find us a champion from another world! Save Märchen! We rest out hopes on you and your chosen!" The gate fades away into the fog as you roll out of your futon and onto the cold wooden floor.

You take a deep breath as you rise to your feet. You feel tired. More tired than when you had gone to bed. Stupid clown dream... At least your mom had the decency to prepare you a continental breakfast before you had to go to school. You have plenty of time and you patiently consume your meal. Nope. Not gonna think about it. No sir! You're not concerned by any silly Märchen Clown gate dreams. Not you!

You get to your usual spot where you meet Yama and wait for him. And wait.

And wait.

And wait.
Something isn't right. Yama is rarely late, and even then only by a couple minutes. He's a whole 15 minutes behind schedule. Completely unlike him. If he was sick, his mother would have come to tell you so you wouldn't be worried.

He's fine. You shouldn't worry. He can take care of himself. Well, really you've been doing that for him. And those bullies sure looked pleased to see him before you stepped in. They know he's your friend and an easy target. If they staked him out before you got there...

Oh... your legs are moving rather fast aren't they? And... are you screaming? No it's more like roaring like an angry lion. You watch as other school children fling themselves out of your way as if you were an 18-wheeler barreling down the sidewalk. By the time you reach the school yard, you are starting to work up a light sweat. You yell even louder, calling out the names of the two bullies from the previous day. You receive no answer but the silent, concerned stares of other students. One of them directs you to the left side of the school with their eyes.

You stomp your way there, starting to overhear the rotten apples mocking your dear friend.

"Haha! Tell it again! Marching or whatever it's called."

"I-its... M-Märch-" You hear Yama cough and cry as a soft thumping sound interrupts him.

"I don't really care what its called. It's dumb baby story! I bet your Oni-chan made it up for you so you'd stop crying on her! What a wimp."

"I don't know, Takeda, I bet she's crazy enough she really believes it! And creepy little Yama's egging her on to protect himself."

"Don't! Don't pick on Kana-chan!" He tries to protest, only to be met with a wet sounding thump.

You've always heard of the expression of being mad enough to "See Red" but you always thought it was just that. You had no idea that it could really happen if you achieved this level of absolute fury.

"T-takeda? Do you... feel that?" You hear Kirishima's voice waver as your body moves around the corner. The two of them turn and horror quickly washes over then as you radiate your violent feelings.

"W-Wait a second, Onishi-san! It It was a joke! He's fine! See?" Kirishima tried to pull the unconscious Yama to his feet. The dead weight makes it difficult. You glance down and see a string of bloody spit drip from his limp jaw. Motherfuckers broke his jaw. The boy quickly drops your friend seeing as it only proved to agitate you further.

Takeda, managing to hold onto the fight side of his fight of flight, swings his metal bat at you out of fear.

You glare with pure, undiluted anger at the boy as your hand moves to intercept the speeding metal object. With almost no effort, you halt its momentum in it's entirety, making a hand-sized dent along the hollow, aluminum shaft. Takeda drops the blunt instrument as the terror consumes them both, their legs turning to jelly and their pants undergoing a particularly wet color change.

You flip the bat around in your hand, measuring it's weight before clubbing it against the ribcage of Kirishima. A sickening cracking noise rides under the metallic clang of the bad and the howls of pain from the high schooler.

"You did this." You manage to murmur through gritted teeth. "You have no one to blame for this but yourselves. You could leave an innocent kid alone. You had to hurt him and mock him. This is your retribution for your sins!" You voice crescendos as you raise the bat above your head with both arms, aiming to bring it down onto Takeda's right knee. He's supposed to run for track later this week, but looks like torturing a classmate was too important for this bully. Hopefully the track team has more mercy than you.

As you begin your downswing, the sound of snapping metal shatters your battle trance. You blow lands, but you don't hear the sound of breaking bones or howls of pain. In fact, you can't hear anything. You blink your eyes and where Takeda and Kirishima were is nothing but darkness and fog. You look around some more and find that Yama is with you in this void. He starts to stir for the first time since you've seen him today.

"Onishi Kana..." A voice emanates from in front of you and Yama. The Clown gate thing that you'd seen in your dream last night appears. Its chains broken and the doors tremble with the boom, yet shrill voice of the clown head. "You have been summoned."

>Step in front of Yama
>Ignore the door and check on Yama.

"Yeah just a minute." You growl at the door as you lightly jog to the nearby Yama. He looks up at you, tear stains redden the sides of his eyes but yours are drawn to the blood staining the corner of his lips. With your jacket sleeve, you wipe it away as carefully as you can.

"I-Ignored..." The door's murmurs in its mysterious echo. You think you detect a hint of dejection.

"Yama? Can you hear me? Don't talk just nod." You give him stern questions to ascertain his lucidity. If he has a concussion...

"I can here you Kana-chan." He speaks anyway.

"Idiot! Follow directions! Your jaw should be broken!" You snap at him like a scolding mother.

"I'm fine, somehow." He weakly protests back. "I'm tougher than you give me credit for."

You blink at the thought of this. You've never let him get hurt since grade school.. You'd usually beat up the other kids if they so much as looked at him funny. Maybe you've been overprotective...

After making sure Yama is fine, you finally spin around to face the door. To your surprise the clown face is looking directly at you. The moving silvery object catches you off guard for a second, but you regain your composure and start demanding some answers.

"The fuck is going on?! Since when to door have feelings?! Where did those assholes go? Where are we? If you don't start coughing up answers I swear I'll smash in that creepy clown face of yours." You shout at it defiantly. The gatekeeper simply tilts his head and opens his mouth slightly.

"Finally ready? Well, Onishi Kana, you have been summoned to Märchen." It answers you in its high but foreboding voice. "The number of people who may cross has been determined as..." A silvery claw lifts from its resting place atop the doorframe, rolling a large six-sided die along the darkness you assume to be ground. As it thunders to a stop, a single skull shines off the top face. "One. Only one may enter through the Gate. And that one is you Onishi Kana."

You look back at Yama, who is now sitting up, staring at the gate in absolute amazement. "Is... Is this Märchen?" He wonders aloud.

"I am afraid not, child." The clown responds. "This is merely a space between your world and Märchen. You have but a few moments to say your farewells." Yama looks frightened for a moment at the prospect of your departure, then saddened.

"Aw man, I really wanted to see it."

You ball your hand into a fist, take a step forward in an aggressive stance and shout at the stupid clown on top of the gate.

"THE FUCK KIND OF MAGICAL BULLSHIT IS THIS?! And what, do I not get a fucking choice in this?!" You grit your teeth and try to see if its possible to kill a door with just your glare.

"No." It answers matter-of-factly and reaches with one clawed arm to open the door it watches over. As it does so, you turn back to your childhood friend one last time. He is staring at you with a smile, but you see a resigned sadness behind his eyes.

"Tell me all about it when you get back, Kana-chan! I'll be waiting!" You see the beginning of tears starting to form at the corner of his eye.

No! Goddamnit! You aren't gonna cry. Not in front of Yama, and definitely not in front of some fucking weird-ass judgey door monster. You puff out your chest, turn around, look over your shoulder and give Yama the biggest, cockiest, most confident smile you can muster.

"Sure! As soon as I kick the ass of whoever called me, I'll come on back and tell about about Märchen. The real one."

The clown chuckles to itself as the door swings wide open. At first your blinded at the sudden burst of bright light, but as soon as you adjust you see the pastel meadows you remember from your dreams. No, they're even more vivid and beautiful than that! Its marvelous.... but you can't let the door know that.

"Eh... It'll do, I guess." You shrug and walk through the portal.

In an instant you realize that the portal you walked through as not even with the ground. Unceremoniously, you fall a couple feet, landing on your bottom.

With an annoyed grunt you crawl back to your feet, rubbing your backside a little before brushing the dirt off of your school uniform. You remove your jacket for a moment, unlike the fall weather at home, it must be the middle of summer in Märchen! Great. Just fucking great. The door could have at least warned you about the weather. You grumble on a little as you think of your master plan.

Step one: Find the fucker who made the clown door kidnap you.
Step two: Punch them in the nose.
Step three: Destroy whatever it was that they called you here for.
Step four: Go home with an interesting story.

You can smell salt water on the wind. You must be near an ocean of some kind. Where there's water, there's bound to be civilization of some kind. You walk towards the smell, faintly hearing the crashing of waves over what you assume is sandy beaches. As you walk your mind wanders. Why could the stupid clown drop you off actually in a town?! Would that have been so goddamn hard? Why not, oh I don't know, deliver me to the person who actually summoned me here?! What, is it a genie as well as a clown?

And how perfect! Its not a shoreline, its a sheer cliff with rocks at the bottom! Nothing can be easy. You cross your arms and stew in your annoyance. At least you got to keep that bat. Even if it's dented now.

Peering down, you notice a ship! Funny... has your vision ever been this crisp before? Not that you didn't have perfect 20/20 vision, but every seems a little sharper now. You use your free hand to shield your eyes as you squint to gather more details about the ship.

You cautiously crawl to the edge of the cliff tempting fate as you leave over the side, squinting to try to make out more details about this ship. Its a really old ship. Triple masts and billowing sails. There's something on the flag... But you are starting to lose your balance, having leaned too far over. You windmill your arms attempting to correct yourself, you stare down at the bed of rocks below lined in white foam. No! You refuse to be done in by something like gravity! With a last, desperate swing of your arms, you manage to fall backwards on the nice soft grass rather than plummet down to your death. You breath out a sigh of relief. Maybe today won't be as bad as you thought.

The ground underneath your shakes violently as you realize that the cliff wasn't very stable. All of your antics must have shifted it loose and now you and your perch are going down to Davy Jones' Locker! Damn you, gravity! Your life flashes before your eyes, you see Yama waiting at the Gate for you to return and tell you about your adventures. At least you don't have to tell him you died falling off a cliff 10 minutes in. Today is the worst. You close your eyes and wait for the end.

Ow.

You open your eyes again after the tremendous crash.You look down at your body and see that your shirt's sleeves are torn to ribbons and there's a long tear in our knee socks. You also seem to be missing a shoe- no, wait, there it: floating out to sea. Bon Voyage, left shoe. Rot in hell, you treacherous piece of footwear. Aside from some clothing casualties, you managed to walk away from this with... scraped knees and busted lip?!

You stand up and look over the piece of the cliffside that fell with you. No, aside from that top layer of dirt this was rock. Similar to the one you landed on. That was a long fall; there's no way you should have survived it. What the hell is going on here?

You look around and see the ship still docked at what looks to be a makeshift port of some kind. Probably driftwood strapped together with spare rope and prayer.

You stare at your hands, then the ship, then back to your hands. What the fuck is with this place?! You attempt to leap from rock to rock; hopping your way closer to the secret dock. Whoa! It feels like you're on the moon! Your leg muscles shove you away from the ground, where you float for just a moment a good six feet up before safely land on the next rock. A large smile makes its way across your face as adrenaline and endorphins flood your brain. This is amazing! You can't think of a single way to complain about this right now. Something about Märchen must be fundamentally different from your regular old Earth. Something that increases the power of your muscles as well as your durability and senses.

In no time at all, you leap our way over to the makeshift docks. Up close, this ship is amazing! It looks like one of those boats from your history books. What were they called again? Galleons? There is something expertly painted on the side of the vessel in English. You're not very good at it, but you think it says "Terrible Truth." That's the name of this tub? That sounds dumb. Looking up, you see a black flag hanging from the mast decorated with a wickedly grinning skull.

Pirates.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sounds of voices coming from inside the cliffs. There must be a cave system or grotto that these pirates are using as a hideout.

Your eyes narrow and a sly grin slithers across your face as you hatch a plot. At some point, these jokers are going to sail into a real port. REAL civilization. That'd be the perfect place to start looking for the jerk who summoned you here. Plus, if they're really weak, maybe you can take over as captain. After all, you got a crazy power boost for being from another world. You look back at the ship as you hear the voices starting to approach. Gauging your jump, you leap onto the main deck of the Terrible Truth.

As you expected, there's no one on board right now. They must be absolutely confident in their little hideout's secrecy. You smirk to yourself, proud of your cunning in taking advantage of their overconfidence. Those voices are getting closer still. You duck below decks into a vast, empty room. You guess this must be their treasure hold. There's still a few scattered pieces of gold and... silver jewelry. Their shine reminds you of the silver Gatekeeper Clown.

You start playing around with the accessories. You are reminded of a time when you were young when you would mess with your mother's jewelry despite her warnings. They always looked so pretty to you and you wanted to try them. You pick of the pair of rings placing one on each hand's middle finger. They fit perfectly, as if they were made for you.

The next piece you pick up is the earring. You are puzzled as to why there is only one. Aren't there supposed to be pair? It looks a little damaged with the two missing studs in the miniature club. Well, it still looks cool. You've always been a fan of large blunt weapons. You remove one of the stud in your left ear and place the earring in its place.

Despite the shape and presumed density of the piece of jewelry, its quite light. You wish there was a mirror in here so you could check out how badass you look.

Alone in this mostly empty room where no one can see you, you feel like expressing your current mood outwardly.

You can't help but flash a daring grin. You snuck onto a pirate ship, and now you have stolen some of their treasure! Take that, you stinking pirates! You put up your dukes and toss a few punches at the air to rid your self of some of this excited energy in your system. What a thrill this is starting to become! It'll be an amazing tale to tell!

With your first punch, however, you feel your fists being to heat up before they spontaneously burst into flames. At the end, the ball of fire clinging to you flies off, smacking against one of the treasure room's walls, blasting a massive hole in it. Luckily, it would seem that the ship was treated to prevent fires.

Unluckily, though, there is someone staring back at you through the hole. A woman maybe a good 5 years older than you dressed in a long coat, tricorn hat, and a bandoleer of pistols. You quickly notice that one of her legs had been replaced with a silver peg leg.

If feels like hours as the two of you trade expressions of surprise and shock. You get a good look at her face, her long, light blond hair is messy under her hat and as it stretches down her back. The coat looks like it probably didn't originally belong to her as there's no way the buttons would reach across her chest. Her silver peg leg is probably able to do something like your rings or that Gate Clown thing, so she's most likely armed.

"You're not a part of the crew!" She finally yells, pointing at you and wearing an angry expression. "And those aren't your Ärms! Put them back this instant, thief!"

But by this point you've started bolting for the exit. You throw your fist attempting to launch another fireball, but nothing comes out. Was that a one-time deal? What a useless item! What did that pirate lady just call them? Ärms? What a weird name. Whatever its time to go. Behind you, you hear a voice.

"Get the intruder, Hawken! Guardian Ärm: Parrotrice!" She yells angrily as your feet carrying you out of the cargo hold in record time. What an awful day. First you nearly kill yourself falling of a cliff, and now you're being attacked by a pirate! Unfortunately, you are greeted by the entire crew of the Terrible Truth. Each of them carry some form of silvery weapon. Scratch that. You're being attacked by an entire boat of pirates. Today is just god awful.

"Good grief, what a pain." You complain to yourself, placing a hand on your face as your bat rests on your shoulder. The pirates chuckle to themselves, leering at you with dirty looks and obviously undressing you with their eyes.

"If you assholes want a taste of me, then come and get it!" You glare at them and charge into their crowd ready to swing!

You have always been strong. Hell, you got this bat by stopping it midswing with your bare hand! And if you're right, and being from another world has boosted all of your abilities, Your strength should be at superhuman levels right now!

You dodge a rogue swing from one of these bilge rats and wind up your swing. At the top of your lungs you scream at them:

"COME AND GET SOME YOU BRINY FUCKS"

The damaged bat connects with the midsection of the closest pirate. As if in slow motion, you watch his eyes bulge and the air forced from his lungs. You struck him with enough force that you send him flying like bullet, taking out a third of these fools behind him. The rest of them pause in shock and amazement at this show of strength. You also have to take a second to collect yourself. You hadn't thought you'd do that kind of damage in one swing.

Then a wicked smile crosses your face.

>Make them wilt under you with your powerful personality!

Your temper is reaching its maximum and you need to complain about your day.

"Listen here! I am stowing away! Fuck with me and get bent!" You shout at them, leaning on the bat menacingly before continuing on with your rant. "I was summoned to another world in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, had to say goodbye to my best friend for who knows how long, the damn clown didn't even have the decency to drop me off at ground level, and I lost a shoe. I LIKED that shoe, dammit!"

You stomp your foot, causing the remaining pirates to flinch and take a step back.

"You think you can just order my men around like that, kid?" You hear a feminine voice from behind you as well as the sound of large wing flaps. Turning around you see that same woman pirate as before, but now accompanied by some horrific monstrous parrot thing. At least you think so by the colorful feathers. That must be Hawken you over heard her call. "Only I get to order them around. Now are you gonna return those Ärms? Or am I gonna have to force you?"

Your face contorts in an expression of discuss as this bitch has the gall to make you repeat yourself.

"What, are you deaf? I'm stowing away. At least until I get to the next port." You strike an aggressive pose with your bat. "And besides, you stole these, so you have no right to claim them as yours."

"Oh hohohoho~!" The woman pirate lets out a laugh behind her raised hand. "You are amusing! Delusional, but amusing. What was that thing about being from another world? Its almost cute~!" Her arms remained crossed across her chest. Her monster bird perches itself on an upper deck.

"Tell you what? I'll humor you if you can beat Hawken. If you lose, you hand over those Ärms and get the fuck off my ship. You win and I'll take you to the nearest port and keep those Ärms you stole. I'll even let you live! How's that for a deal!" She laughs her dumb laugh again.

You switch up your position as a devious plan enters your head.

"Fine, Captain Cow!" You start with taunting, her eyes narrow but that's as much of a reaction you can draw out of her. "But if you break your word I'll break you like your bird there."

A fire lights in your heart as you throw your bat with all your strength at 'Hawken.' It lets out a shrieking squawk as you hit it right between the eyes and knock if off its perch. Your bat continues flying of in... several directions, having shattered on impact with the monster's skull. Rest in Peace, bat. You'll never be forgotten.

Finally the lady captain moves, a look of shock on her face. "O-one... throw? One throw took out Hawken?!" She turns back to you still surprised, but attempting to cover it up with a cool face. She's failing pretty badly.

"W-well I'm woman of my word. You can keep those Ärms while we deliver you to the closest town." Her voice wavers slightly as she starts moving. She walks up he stairs and retrieves a silver pendant shaped like a bird. "Hawken is fine, so I don't even have a reason to be that angry. The lads are too terrified of you to try anything, so you don't have to worry about any of us killing you in your sleep." She sounds far too casual about that fact. These pirates...

The lady captain walks back down to you and offers a polite bow, complete with removing her hat. "I'm Silver! Captain of the Terrifying Truth. My boys here call me Long John."

"Well its a pleasure to meet someone who can beat a Guardian Ärm in single combat without using a single Ärm. I'm impressed, truly."

There is a moment of silence as the two of you size each other up. You are the first to break and resume conversation.

"So why do they call you Long John?"

You sigh and drop the topic. You're not unfamiliar with sensitive topics. After all, you went through quite a bit of trouble at times trying to stop Yama from blabbing about your dreams about this place. You can empathize with not wanting to talk about it, so you change subjects.

"Okay... So tell me: what the fuck are Ärms? You keep going on and on about them." You rest the back of your head against your hands as you lean against the railings of the ship. The bombshell captain stares at you incredulous.

"You don't know what Ärms are? You really must be from another world!" She says with a laugh. There's a pause as you wait for a real answer. "You serious, aren't you? You really don't know?" She sighs and pulls a silver feather from her hat.

"Weapon Ärm, Feather Cutlass!" She shouts. In a flash of light the feather transforms into the iconic weapon of the Pirate Golden Age! WHOA! "Ärms are magical artifacts used throughout the world. There are several types of Ärms, But most fall under one classification or another. That earring of yours, for example, is what's known as a Weapon Ärm. Basic, but supremely effective. Those rings are known as Nature Ärms. If its properties are elemental, then it fits that category. There's also Guardian Ärms like Hawken. Not all of them are as big and their powers vary from Guardian to Guardian. There are some drawbacks to summoning them, though. They're absolute energy guzzlers and will exhaust their users like nobody's business. It's also almost impossible to move while you have a Guardian in use."

She sighs again and sits down on the stairs leading to the wheel.

"Those are the most common types of Ärms that you'll see used. There are also Simple Ärms, but those are mostly weak labor tools. They'd probably snap like toothpicks in your hands." She laughs again.

You frown as you think through the avalanche of information Silver just dumped on you.

"So I have a Nature and a Weapon Ärm. And you activate them by shouting out their names?" You think aloud at your host.

"Correct! Gold Star!" She gives you a wink and the thumbs up. You just roll our eyes. "You have the Weapon Ärm: Earring Kanabo and the Nature Ärms: Inferno Fists. The Kanabo does exactly what you think it does. In your hands, that probably is even more devastating than in my crew's. I'm almost worried that I'll have blood on my hands if I let you leave with it." Despite her supposed worry, she's smiling. Obviously she's being sarcastic. "The Inferno Fists allow you to shoot fireballs by punching. I didn't really have time to experiment with them, so I don't know what else they can do."

"How about teleporting Ärms? Are there any that can take people from other worlds? Ones with large doors and creepy clowns?" You blurt out.

"Eh?" You managed to throw Silver for a loop with your barrage of questions, but she recovers quickly. "Well, there are Dimension Ärms. Ärms that have to deal with distances, but I've never seen any powerful enough to access other worlds. Must be rare." She muses to herself. When she starts thinking about profits, she makes you think of a cat.

"That's enough about Ärms, I think." You start up again. "Tell me about your boat."

"Ship!" Silver corrects you. "The Terrible Truth is the most feared pirate ship this side of the Hild Continent. Er, that's the continent we're on. The Northernmost one. I'll show you a map later." She gestures flippantly before getting back on topic. "My ship breeds terror into the hearts of merchants and soldiers alike! There hasn't been a ship that can match her for power and maneuverability! We named her 'The Terrible Truth' because she represents the inevitability of plundering that awaits any ship that lays eyes on her!" She laughs her ojou-sama laugh again. That's going to get grating.

You have so many questions to ask. That stupid clown dumped you here with out a word of warning, so you have a shit ton of catching up to do if you want to get your grand plan in motion. You start off with some easy ones.

"Who are some of the major movers and shakers around here? Whoever summoned me sounded desperate. Like they were losing a war or something."

Silver eyes get serious for a moment as she thinks about your question. "Well there has been trouble with this group of thugs across the world. They call themselves The Chess Pieces. A bunch of murdering creeps if you ask me."

"But don't you pirates kill people?" You question aloud.

"Only if we're forced to. Killing means we take away profit. You can only rob a corpse once, after all. And I'm in the business of getting rich, not drowning in blood." She folds her arms again, a little offended at your question. It was a valid question; you don't see why she's upset by it.

"Okay so who are they fighting?"

"That'd be the Cross Guard. Queen Diana of Lestava, that's on the southern continent, formed them to defend the people of the world from these crazies. Course, I didn't sign up since dying is a bad policy when you're looking to make money."

"So those two are duking it out and your out here making mad cash off of it."

"Well, I'm not the only one. Technically we're apart of the Luberia Theives Guild. Buuut I haven't returned to that dumb fortress in years. But that's their fault. They decided to set up shop in the middle of the frickin' desert, not me." She stretches her arms and lets out a childish huff thinking about her associates.

"So we have the Chess, the Cross Guard, and a Thieves Guild. Is that all?"

"Everyone worth talking about."

"Good. Now show me a map. I want to start getting aquainted with the landscape while we get moving." You take command of the situation.

"Heh... alright come with me to my quarters and I'll show you what's what." She pushes off of the railing and beckons you to follow her to the large door below the wheel.

Because I'm lazy and that's a lot of geography to cover, I'll just give you the link to the wiki about the map. http://mar.wikia.com/wiki/M%C3%84R-Heaven

Its several hours before you truly absorb your crash course in this other world's geography. By the end of it, your brain is starting to hurt. You decide to take a break and go out on deck to get a breath of fresh air. On the way out, the ship's cook offers you a bowl of stew. Fuck yeah! You haven't eaten since this morning. You've been so busy today that you'd almost forgotten. But now you can hear your stomach growling like jungle beast.

"You know..." Your mouth starts moving on its own. Loud enough that Silver awakens from her daydream, a little startled, and looks at you. "Where I come from, I could never see this many stars. Too much light from the buildings around me."

"And do you like it? This treasure of a sight?" Silver responds after a few seconds. A slight, warm smile faintly reflects the light of the moon.

"Yeah. I'll make sure to find the words to describe this to Yama." You are talking more to yourself than to Silver at this point.

"Who is Yama? He a boyfriend waiting for you at home?" She teases.

"What? No. We've been friends since we were born. He's more like a little brother." You wave your hand like you were swatting her jests like insects buzzing around you. "He was with me when the Gatekeeper summoned me. I promised him I'd tell him all about my adventures here in Märchen. I never break my promises if I can help it." You tighten your fist as you stare at the stars once again and reaffirm your vow to come home.

"I dreamed about this place for my entire life. I'd be a hero, fighting off some silly dark lord or whatever. There's a part of me that's thinking I'll wake up soon. If I don't... I don't think I'd complain about it." You allow yourself to slouch down and rest your chin in your arms on the side of the ship.

"And what do you want to do about it?" Silver says, now at the top of the stairs. She looks down on you with an understanding look and a friendly smile. "I don't know if I fully believe you're from another world, but... Even if this is a dream, you're here now. You said you want to bring home some treasured memories to your friend, but that's what he wants. What do you want to do? You're the only one who gets a say in that."

"I... I don't know." You shift your eyes away from the pirate captain and back to the silent mirror that is the ocean. "I want a lot of things. I want to see things; have new experiences. I want to fight. I've got this amazing strength now it'd be a shame to waste it. But... I also want to see Yama again. He gets bullied at school, you know. I want to see my mom and dad, hell, I even want to go back to school." You laugh in spite of yourself. If you from earlier today had heard that, you'd probably have slapped yourself. You have another moment of quiet contemplation looking at the massive moon hovering above the still waters. "It sounds so childish out loud but... I want to be a hero. Like in my dreams. Is that selfish?" You look to Silver who offers you a kind smile back.

"There's nothing wrong with wanting something for yourself. And its okay to share your dreams regardless of whether you think they're childish or not." She places a hand on your shoulder as she passes behind you and back to her quarters.

"Hey, Silver." You stop her. "This conversation never happened. You tell anyone about any of this and I'll stop you flat. Got it?" You put in only a token amount of venom in your threat. Maybe its because of how this day has gone, but you are starting to run low on malice.

"Not a soul. I promise." She laughs as the you hear the door close behind her.

You stare at the ocean a bit longer. You exhale with a sigh as your mind wonders. Since you're here in Märchen, will you dream about the Japan? Will you dream about Yama, Mom and Dad, school? Will Yama be picked on while you're away? You can feel nervous energy working its way through you with that last question. There's no way you're going to get to bed while you're this riled up.

"Weapon Ärm: Earring Kanabo." You speak its name just loud enough to be heard over the soft, lapping of the waves. In a flash similar to Silver's Feather Cutlass, your hand is filled by the weight of the now fully sized Kanabo. You're a little disappointed that its still using studs rather than spikes, but its still a badass weapon.

Despite it's size the monstrously sized weapon feels like in just your one hand. You give it a couple of test swings. Ugh... It might be light, but its size makes it too unwieldy to try to use one handed. You start practicing your swinging etiquette as well as a few basic blocks. Not much difference between using it and using the bat except for your reach and how much damage it'll do. You manage to work up a sweat going through some exercises with the weapon. For someone with no formal fighting training, you've always been exceptionally gifted in the art.

But now it was time to train with something completely alien to you: Your Nature Ärms. You let go of the Kanabo, letting it disappear into smoke and back onto your ear before calling out your Inferno Fists. On cue, you feel a familiar warmth in your hands and and an orange glow illuminates your surroundings like a giant candle. Hey, you've already figured out a secondary use for this one! You're a natural at these Ärm things!

Feeling proud of yourself, you start to shadowbox like you did in the treasure hold. This time now facing away from anything flammable or destructible. You launch a series of blows, mimicing that one anime boxer your dad liked to watch. Guess his insistence on spending quality time together is starting to pay off. Its quite fun watching the fireballs sail out over the water.

You're a bit exhausted now. Those Nature Ärms must draw on a lot more energy than Weapon Ärms do. You flick your hands out, extinguishing the flames and turn to the door that leads below deck.

You sneak a heavy blanket away from the sailor's cots and climb up to the crow's nest. If you weren't so sure of your survival thanks to your enhanced toughness, you'd be a bit more scared about sleeping so high off the ground. Once you settle down, you barely register your sudden drift into sleep.

----

Its been almost a whole day since Kana left for the other world. The world of Märchen. You miss her, but if you hadn't egged her on, she might not have gone at all. Though it didn't sound like she had much of a choice. She might have tried to fight the door. That would have been funny to watch. You laugh a little, but wince in pain. You didn't mention it to her, but those two second years had cracked a couple of your ribs before Kana showed up and annihilated them. She worries about you almost as much as you worry about her.

You feel sad as you think about how much she's sacrificed so you could stay safe. Other than you, she has no friends. She pretends she doesn't care, but you think she's just trying to make you feel better about it. That's why, secretly, you decided to become tough like her.

Besides, its not like she's here to protect you right now. Those two bullies weren't the only people who find you an easy target.

You put on a brave face as you walk through the school gates. You get a few stares because of your bruised face and the brace around your chest. A few murmurs waft through the air your way.

"I hear the only reason she didn't murder them was because Yamada was still conscious."

"I heard Kana died fighting them off."

"No way, she's fled to avoid arrest!"

"I heard she got possessed by a real Oni and it made her do it."

You sigh at them. They'll never know the truth. Even though the boys got away, they were expelled for what they did to you. And from your heavily edited testimony, Kana acted in your defense and wasn't trying to do permanent harm. The boys' parents didn't press charges and you were able to convince the school not to expel your childhood friend. She's still missing however and her picture has been plastered across the region. A runaway they call her. If you'd been even a little tougher of a person, maybe the picture they used could have been one of her bright smile rather than a vicious, arrogant snarl.

Her parents are heartbroken, but you'll visit them everyday until she returns. You'll bring them cherry buns and... and... damn it, you're crying again.

You wake up to the crooning sounds of sea birds nagging you. Stretching a little you feel something wet on your cheek. Were you... crying? You wipe away the stray tears with your blanket and peer down at the ship below. The crew has changed hands and you hear commands being shouted over the sea shanties. Looking up at the horizon you see a few other ships moving about. Too far away to worry about fighting.

You hear a small popping noise followed by a thunderous boom. If you weren't braced against the mast, you might have fallen! You take another look at your surroundings and notice a small ship as appeared of the port side. It bears an ominous black flag you've never seen before.

You hear Silver shout from below you.

"CHESS! EVERYONE TO BATTLE STATIONS! PREPARE TO FIRE! FULL BROADSIDES!"

>Stay in the crow's nest for now. They're veteran pirates. You'd only get in the way.

You recall your talk with Silver last night and your answer to her question rings in your mind.

I want to be a hero!

"Nature Ärm: Inferno Fists!" You shout from the nest, your hands igniting like the beacon of an ancient lighthouse. You narrow your eyes take a fighting stance. If these assholes want to take people unawares, then fine. You give them a surprise of your own!

Your first blow is a solid straight. You're no boxer like on Dad's show, but you're sure it would have been a knock out punch! The fireball flung from your fist screams as it burn through the moisture in the air and collides with the side of the smaller raiding vessel. Again you think you remember it this particular boat being called a Sloop of War. The fireball you sent out cause the unprotected wood to ignite briefly, but someone on the other ship encases it in ice and douses the flames. Of course! They must also have Ärm users aboard. One of them using Ice Nature Ärms.

The Terrible Truth and the Chess raiding ship close the gap as both unleash their cannon barrages at the other. Silver's gunners seemed to be expecting a pitched ranged battle and were using normal cannonballs. The Chess on the other hand, were waiting to get close. After the cannon fire, you hear the pain cries of Silver's men as well as the splintering of wood. The mast shakes and you realize the ship must have taken a direct hit from grape and chain shots! The crow's nest is coming down with you in it!

>Use the mast to board the enemy ship.
>Leap back down to the Terrible Truth and rejoin Silver as the Chess board her ship.

Standing up, You place your lead leg on the side of the rapidly falling crow's nest. Using your enhanced durability, you're doing to ride this thing down to the Chess Sloop. These assholes chose the wrong time to attack. Its morning, and you eat these kinds of punks for breakfast!

"Weapon Ärm: Earring Kanabo!" You shout as you flip your hair away from your left ear. The silvery accessory shimers with a pale light before its large, true form appears in your hand. You roar defiantly as the mast comes to meet with the deck of the enemy ship. For a moment you lose your senses from the impact but, due to your own battle lust or from your increased hardiness, you regain it fairly quickly.

Kanabo in hand, you see black cloaked figures around you. There are 9 of them in total. All of them with featureless masks save for eye holes. They seem to be using simple Weapon Ärms. You guess they must be the cannon fodder. Their probably an officer around here somewhere.

"Yare Yare Daze..." You smirk as you quote of the shows you had once watched with your dad. "So you're the infamous Chess I heard about. Talk about lame." You flip your hair out of your face, hitting these fools with your trademarked death stare. "Trash like you has no right attacking me and mine. Time for you to take your punishment!"

Your arms tense as you swing Earring Kanabo into the closest four masks. They don't yell or, if they did, it was consumed by the sounds of two of them crashing through the wooden rails of the ship and splashing into the cold water. The other two lay motionless on the floor of the deck.

You hear a few sharp breaths from the standing Chess as they tighten their grips on their weapons and charge you. Knives, swords, sickles and arrows come at you.

Either your display of power shook them more than you thought, or the Chess have some quality control issues when it comes to their mooks. The arrows whiz by harmlessly and your able to easily sidestep the ones with the swords. A swing from your Kanabo forces the closer combatants to abort their attacks in order to not be hit.

"What garbage! Come on, its 5 to 1 and you're still outclassed. What kind of men are you who can't even entertain a girl." You lay into them again with your taunts. "If this is all you have, I'm going to be real disappointed."

You shoot these fools a dirty look as you lean your weapon on your shoulder. They aren't even worth your time. What a waste of energy. You scowl and attempt to walk past them and into the holds of the ship where you can find someone who's worth a damn.

"H-Hey!" You hear a shout. Apparently these guys can actually talk. "Y-you have to go through us if you hope to take our ship!"

"No she doesn't." You hear a familiar voice accompanied by the sound of large wing flaps. Silver has finally made her way here, riding on the back of her Guardian, Hawken. "You wrecked my ship and killed my crew." Her voice is backed with a cold, severe edge you've never heard in her before. Those guys you'd knocked off the boat came back with some injuries, but none of them had actually died. "You have some debts to pay me."

She looks at you with a smile. "If you can, can you keep that captain alive for me? I'd like to exchange a few words with him." You nod and take up a light jog down the stairs into the depths of the ship.

These Sloops of War are a relatively tiny kind of boat with not much storage space. There shouldn't be too many areas to investigate. Ugh... why couldn't the captain be on deck instead? How dare he make you have to find him. You're going to take this out of his hide before letting Silver get her revenge.

If you're looking for the Captain, its best to start in the captian's quarters, right? You kick in the door, knocking it off its hinges before you enter the room.

"Come on out, asshole! You've got a lot to answer for!" You shout brashly as your shoeless foot touches velvet carpet. To your amazement, this room is decorated in splendid finery. Gold leaf decorates a globe of the world, there are trophies of animals on the wall along with what appears to be decorative weapons and armors.

You wander around the desk to get a better look at the ocean charts pinned to the surface.

...

You don't know how to read this, but it there are several Xs painted on areas of the world. An X usually means treasure, right? Maybe Silver would like this. You rip the map off of the desk, fold it up neatly, and store it in your jacket pocket.

He's not here. Why wouldn't he be here!? These are the Captain's Quarters! Your temper is starting to get the better of you. You raise Earring Kanabo and swing it down on the desk, shattering it into splinters!

"WHERE ARE YOU, YOU COWARD!" You scream at no one. You swing your weapon wildly, hitting the globe and caving it in. You yell incoherently as your tantrum demolishes more of the finery that decorates the room. Wood, metal and porcelain fly through they air and you rampage.

You hear footsteps coming up the stairs at a rapid pace. Maybe your anger has actually served you well for once. A man in a violet doublet and tall black boots stares at you with furious eyes.

"What have you done to my trophies?!" You speaks in a low, even voice. On his ear, you see a silver earring shaped like a rook. He must be the chess captain. "Do you know how many years it took to collect them all? And you've ruined them! I shall have your hide for this! Weapon Ärm: Wrist Rapier!"

From his sleeve, a glow similar to your Kanabo's appearance shines. In his hands a slender, slightly curved blade appears in his hands. "If you must stomp around like a beast, then I shall collect your head like one." He take a fighting stance with a hand behind his back. His sword arm, coiled in like a serpent lying in wait.

Your face contorts into a snarl as you respond to his insults.

"Well this beast has a lot more stomping to do, old man!" You knock the remains of the globe at the swarthy Chess officer. He bends his knees and ducks under the speeding object. If you weren't so pissed off at him for being late to his own ass kicking, you might have been impressed.

"Maybe you shouldn't have woken me up then asshole!" You retort back as your Kanabo connects with a large chunk of his desk sending it towards his face. Before he reacts, you do it again with another piece of desk. Then the helmet from the suit of armor in the corner. Then a painting. Then a marble bust of a woman.

The lighter things, he bats away with his sword, skillfully dodging all but the bust. You hear the air forced from his lungs as the stone work connects with his stomach. "This was a gift from the Queen of Reginlief; how DARE you?!" It looks like you are getting under his skin now. "You will kneel before me for your transgressions, you wench!"

With surprising speed, he charges forward, thrusting that rapier at your torso!

You slam your Kanabo down in front of you, cracking the floorboard, but also giving you something between this guy's sharp blade and your fleshy body. You hear the clash of metal and feel the Chess officer kick off of your weapon. You watch him leap backwards again leering at you warily.

"It seems I am mistaken. I merely assumed you a beast because of your manner of dress, but that must be a clever ruse to have foes underestimate you." Is he fucking insulting you?! "So allow me to introduce myself. I am Captain Nemo of the Chess. Might I have you name?"

You glare at him as you looks at you expecting a civilized reply. Well you got his 'civilized reply' right here! You raise your hand and give him the rudest gesture you can give with one hand and shout angrily at him.

"Fuck off, old man! I only give my name to people I respect, but if you really need to call me something, call me your worst fucking nightmare!" Your tirade isn't through yet, you've still got some heat through at him. "You're only talking cause your scared I'm gonna kick your tanned, sorry ass! And where the fuck did you get those shoes, your mommy?! Her taste is clothes is as shit as yours!" Fuckin got him.

His face remains a stone slab, but can tell from his eyes that a little bit of him died in your verbal assault. "I see." Yup there it is. "Then I shall dispatch you post haste and resume my interrogation." Interrogation? Does that mean he has a prisoner? Was that why he was below deck?

From behind Nemo, you see a shadow move along the stairway. Someone else is coming this way.

Your muscles tense and flex as you burst forwards suddenly, bringing your Kanabo around for a clean smash to Nemo's right side. You scream in rage as you the air rushes around you. The wind and anger blind your momentarily as the swing is about to connect with the Chess captain.

"Darkness Weapon Ärm: Midnight Sabre."
CLANG!

The sound of metal colliding with metal resounds in your ears as sight returns to you. The hand Nemo had kept behind his back is now holding a single edged saber against you Kanabo. You put your strength behind that blow. He shouldn't have been able to stop it like that, shouldn't he? You try to make it budge and overpower him, your weapons remained locked.

"Darkness... Weapon ÄRM?" You manage to get out as you attempt to pull your Kanabo free.

"I must congratulate you, Miss Nightmare." He's mocking you through that falsely warm smile. "You have forced me to use the Midnight Sabre. I hardly have battles that require such a tool, but you are no normal opponent." The his smile widens and you can see a maliciousness emerge to he surface. His other hand, still holding his Wrist Rapier raises up, its point touching the clothes covering your stomach.

You can feel your heart racing as the seconds tick by.

Is this how it ends? On the end of point piece of metal? It's better than falling to your death, but... NO! No you refuse for this to be it. You are going to go home and tell Yama about how you beat the everloving shit out of this pirate and saved the goddamned day!

As Nemo thrusts his blade, you leap back, wrenching your Kanabo out from the Midnight Sabre. Your strengthened muscles managed to launch you almost completely across the room before you slide to a stop.

"Not bad, girl. Clearly you are a worthy opponent. Even if you lack the manners of one." Another one of his insults. He's trying to do the same thing you're doing! Get your own strategy, shithead! You take a moment to look around. Nemo has the most advantageous position by the door. There's no way to circle around him and strike with the wall so close.

If there's one thing you've learned in your years of fighting, its that if you don't like the battleground, CHANGE IT! You raise your Kanabo and smash it into the weakened boards, creating a large hole.

"My floor!" The Chess man cries out as you leap down into what you assume are the crew quarters. Still too crowded with support beams and objects to hide behind. As you look around for the exit, you hear Nemo drop down behind you.

"You cannot escape from me, my opponent! I shall defeat you and add you to my collection!" What the hell? That's fucking creepy as shit. You don't say those kinds of things to girls!

You run further through the ship. Passing tiny rooms and rooms that would only serve to give Nemo advantages in combat. That until you reach the brig.

Inside the brig you see a disturbing scene. Rather than lines of cages, there are only bodies in manacles chained to the walls, ceiling, and floor. Almost none of the are alive as most are in varying states of decay and missing their right hands. You assume this is what he meant by his 'collection.' Yup, fucking creepy.

To your surprise, there is still one with his hand intact. On top of that, he's alive and in relatively good condition. He must have been Nemo's most recent captive; the one he was interrogating.

"Oi, Oi!" The man shouts coursely. His hair being sandy in color, like the sun had washed out the natural brown pigments, and pulled back save for a single wild lock of hair waving around like an antenna. A dusting of facial hair rests on his chin and long sideburns frame his face. He has an angry, hungry look to him as blood trickles from the corner of his lip. He is missing a shirt, and is covered in small cuts and scars. His toned abdomen is wrapped in bandages that are starting to come loose and a torn pair of dark navy trousers wrap his legs. If you didn't know better you'd think he was a delinquent like you.

You quickly approach the man.

"I heard you. We have the same goal, so I'll let you go on the condition you help me curbstomp his ass into seafoam!" You place a hand on the iron shackles as you lean in with a stern expression on your face.

"That sounds like a plan to me, but I don't take commands from you, got it. I'm working beside you not under you." He's a defiant one.

"Whatever. If you bitch out and I'm kicking your ass. Try to stab me in the back and I'll kick your ass. I feel like you're not pulling your weight and I'll kick your ass." You lay down your ground rules for the fight. He just gives you a battle hungry grin.

"You don't need to worry about that shit. Just hope you ain't squeamish about blood."

Bitch to I look like I'd be squeamish?! You rip the shackles off the wall with little effort. He rubs his wrists for a moment as he gets to his feet. The man is fairly tall; standing half a head taller than you. If you were the height of the other girls at school, you'd probably only be at his shoulders.

"I see you found the leftovers room." Nemo's voice cuts through the silence. "And you've met my new friend, Ahab. Ahab, say hello to your new cell mate. Just let me put the two of you back in chains so I can collect my information and trophies." Something seems a little odd about Nemo. He looks a bit paler than you remember from before.

"Go fuck yourself you old fart!" The man, Ahab is what Nemo called him, shouts back the exact same line you were going to use. What's with the people on this boat stealing your shtick?! Ahab charges forward, grabbing what you assume were his confiscated Ärms and screaming out to call on his weapons.

"Nature ÄRM: Thunder Harpoon"

Another flash of light and you see a golden spear-like weapon with a barbed head appear in Ahab's hand. A long, similarly tinted chain is wrapped around his forearm, connecting him to the end of the harpoon.

"Eat lightning, you shitty ass pirate!" He screams some more before being drowned out by the crack of thunder as the weapon turns into a bolt of lighting headed straight for Nemo.

The explosion from the lightning leaves a cloud of smoke, ash and dust, completely obscuring Nemo from the two of you. Ahab curses as he readies his Harpoon for Nemo's attack. You, however, don't have that kind of patience.

Picking up the busted metal shackles, you decide to give him a taste of the pain he and his crew brought on Silver's crew. You didn't really know them but they were helping you on your mission, so you feel just a smidgen of duty in this asswhooping.

PANG!

You belt it right past Ahab like it was a bullet and right into where Nemo was. You hear the sounds of Nemo grunting in pain and a pleased smirk crosses your lips. As the smoke clears You see Nemo leaning against the door frame with one foot crossing in front the other. Like he was so comfortable with this fight he didn't even need to take a fighting stance. It fucking pisses you off to no end.

"How unsporting." He still has that calm smile to his face. "Two against one aren't very fair odds."

"The only fair fight is the one you lose, ass hat." You manage to beat Ahab to the quip this time. You're sure he was thinking the same thing.

"So you say. Well I've lost my taste for this combat, so I'd like to ask you your name one last time." He's bluffing of course. Now that things have cleared out more, you can see his clothes are scorched and he's leaning against the wall to support a fractured lower leg. To be as calm as he is, he must have some kind of out.

Before you have time to respond, another explosion rocks the boat, literally. You and Ahab are thrown as the blast comes from behind you. You once again see the light of day and... a giant silver submarine?!

"Ah it would seem that my partner is ready to leave. If I could have than name before I go, I would be forever grateful."

You drag yourself to your feet. You're not burned or bruised by the blast, and seeing how Ahab is also getting back up, you suspect there wasn't any fire involved in the explosion. You can see someone standing on top of the Submarine and, with your enhanced senses, you see its another man with a beard. Though rather than the graying hair of Nemo, his is a solid blue. He looks like something out of a fucking anime. But you guess that's probably par for the course in a dream world like this.

"I'm Onishi Kana." You turn back and face Nemo defiantly. "Remember it so that when I hunt you down, you'll know what name to cry out to mercy for... you barnaclefucker..." You tried to think of a nautical insult to call him, but it looks like our brain has failed you this time. Damn you, brain!

"Hohoho! Very well then, Onishi Kana." You're not sure if he's laughing at your insult or if he thinks your threat is laughable. Either way, it pisses you off. "I look forward to our next meeting. I'm sure it will be soon."

"H-Hold it right there, asshole! I haven't finished with you!" Ahab takes a step forward, blocking the direct line between Nemo and the submarine. "I know you were working with Moby! Where is that mutinous son of bitch hiding?!" So he was a captain too? Was he a pirate double crossed by a Chess Piece?

"Oh Moby? Well he often goes of to do his own thing. I'm sure you'll get a chance to see him soon. Get stronger, young Ahab, and a meeting with Moby will be inevitable." It sounds like Nemo holds this Moby guy in high esteem. Is he stronger than Nemo or just a higher rank in their numbers? You see Nemo grab his earring and say something into it. Just like that, the Chess officer disappears into thin air.

"Shit! A Dimension ÄRM?!" Ahab shouts, running to the gaping hole in the boat. Turning around you see him standing there with the other man. The blue-haired man now supporting the weight of the injured Nemo. Your fleeing enemy shouts at you.

"Farewell! I look forward to your presence at The Games!" You don't know what The Games are, it doesn't sound like a good time. The two Chess disappear inside the submarine as it sinks below the bloodstained waves.

"Dammit!" You and Ahab shout at the same time, but kicking different things in frustration.

You furrow your brow. That blue-haired guy barely looked like he'd worked up a sweat. If he wasn't on the boat, where was he. You're starting to worry about Silver. She's your ticket to shore. Not that you care about her as a person or anything. She and her crew are a means to an end.

You motion for Ahab to follow you, but he gives you the stink eye.

"The fuck did I say about giving me orders?" He protests. You roll you eyes.

"Listen, you little shit. I got a ship that'll get us to shore, but I left the captain up top to deal with some pissants I couldn't be bothered to finish off. That other guy on the ship was outside with that massive submarine so I want to go check on her. You're coming with because it benefits you as well. Now step off and get to stepping up, asshole!"

You chew him out, but he doesn't show any signs of cracking. That delinquent will is made of iron.

"So how'd you end up in the hand of Captain Ain't-Shit and his little band of lightweights? You don't strike me as someone who'd lose that easily. And who's that Moby guy you were talking about?"

He folds his arms and starts following you down the hallway. "Moby was my first mate. We were a fishing vessel that specialized in deep sea fish. I thought he was my friend, but it seems he was Chess in disguise. One night we get attacked by a Chess ship. Part of their terror campaign, I guess. Slaughtered us to a man. You can guess who that 'man' was. I survived barely. Moby was with them telling them I'd be some sort of souvenir of his voyages before the war. He was always a sentimental bastard." He spits at the thought. "Handed me over to Nemo and some guy named Bluebeard saying he'd come back to 'pick up his things' after The War Games began."

"Speaking of Nemo, the fuck was his deal? What was he doing to you down here?" Your take the opportunity to switch topics before he gets too pissed to talk. He continues explaining while the two of you climb the stairs.

"That asshole is some kind of sadist masquerading as a gentleman. Whenever he got bored, he'd come down and cut me with that Darkness ÄRM of his. It drinks blood and grows more powerful as it does." That would explain why he was starting to get pale towards the end of the fight. He must have let it drink a lot of his own blood so it could stop your Kanabo.

Now on deck, you are greeted to a scene of carnage. You're reminded of the hyper-violent anime your dad used to watch with you a couple of years ago when mom was away for business. The five minion you'd left to the lady pirate are scattered in bloody pieces. In the center, you see Silver laying on her back. You don't see Hawken, but you do see the ÄRM he is summoned from lying far away from its master on the deck.

At first, you aren't sure if she's alive let alone conscious, but eventually she is able to turn her head to you.

"K-Kana... Get back... to the Truth. Before... Bluebeard."

"He's gone already lady. So Shut up." Ahab cuts her off as he saunters over to her. He pulls another ÄRM out of his pocket. It looks like a silver bell suspended by a chain.

"Holy ÄRM: Sea Belle!" He says in a commanding voice. The bell flashes as light sounds of a delicate bell ring. The bell grows, floating about the three of you. Around it, as if swimming through the air is a mermaid! Looking down, it smiles at the three of you and giggles before tapping on the bell three times. With each ring, you feel your fatigue melt away. All of the small cuts that covered Ahab's body close and disappear, and you can see a bit of life return to Silver's eyes as her breathing evens out. The mermaid waves at you before both it and the bell disappear in a puff of smoke. Ahab sticks the ÄRM back into his pocket and looks over his shoulder at you.

"That'll fix up most of the injuries, but Sea Belle isn't supposed to be used on injuries this severe. We'll need to do some manual first aid. Can you help me carrier her back to her ship?" The former sea captain looks at you with serious eyes. He's seen this kind of carnage enough times that he can act so coolly in the face of near-fatal injury. There's something else he's not telling you, but Silver should come first. You pick up Hawken's ÄRM and walk back over to Ahab and Silver.

Carefully, you cradle Silver's body in your arms. She's lighter than you would have thought. The healing that Ahab gave her eased her into a slumber.

"I got this. Just get to the Terrible Truth and maybe see about helping some of the crew with that bell of yours. A lot of them took the brunt of a broadside." You make some suggestions before leaping through the air and onto the larger galleon. This is the first time you've seen full extent of the opening barrage up close. Some of the sailors from below had come up with the ship's doctor to start a triage. There are more than a few pairs of boots sticking out from a bloody, repurposed sailcloth.

You take Silver to her quarter and set her down on her large bed. This isn't the first time you'd seen this room, but you've only now starting taking note of its decor. A lot of red satin and gold fabric adorn her belongings. The walls have Burgundy velvet drapes that cover up the bare wooden planks. It definitely fits "Long John" Silver's personality.

You inform the doctor, who quickly followed after you once he noticed his captain in your arms, that she's stable and just needs some patching and a thorough physical to be sure there aren't any underlying conditions. He nods as asks you to give the captain some privacy. You agree, plus you still have question that Ahab needs to answer.

You find him surveying the damaged mast of the Truth. He looks like he's trying to figure out if it would be worth it to try to salvage it or to sail on without it. Whatever the case, this will be the final voyage for the Terrible Truth for some time.

"Ahab." You call him and he turns around to acknowledge you. "You sure know how to handle yourself in a battle. That and how quickly you were acted despite all this blood is really surprising for just a mere fisherman. I don't buy it. Give me the whole truth."

Your commanding gaze is met with a defiance you've not met before. You wonder if this is what its like for other people who try to get info out of you when you don't feel like sharing. He sneers at you again and cracks his knuckles.

"Oi, Oi, what did I fucking say about giving me orders? You wanna go?"

"I don't know, fucking do I?" You shoot back.

"The fuck does that mean?" He says raising his fists and taking a wide stance so his face is inches away from yours.

"It mean get the fuck out of my face, asshole!" You call his bluff and raise your own fists just in case things get physical. The tense atmosphere lingers for a few more seconds before the two of you suddenly turn away, crossing your arms and sticking up your noses like a couple of kids. Fucking punk ass fish boy. Trying to lie to you doesn't make you want to bring him along. You could easily stick him back on the crippled Chess ship and blow him to smithereens while you sail away.

You aren't really going to do that, though, since you're trying to be a hero now.

"I worked on a military transport as a cabin boy way before I started captaining a fishing vessel. Payroll, supplies, troops, things like that." He finally speaks up. "Those first two made us prime targets for pirates. People like Silver. People like Nemo. Even before he joined up with Chess, he was a known liar, murderer and pirate. We got hit a lot while carrying payroll or more lucrative. The sailors taught me to use healing ÄRMs so that not if but when we got attacked by pirates, I could help the doctor tend to casualties. Once I turned 16 I quit and jumped a shrimp trawler. Been in the fishing business until a few weeks ago."

That was a touchier subject that you expected it to be. You lower your head back down and spare a glance over your shoulder. His fists are tightly balled into fists, trembling slightly with both grief and frustration. You try to ask a much easier question to lighten the mood.

"So you know Silver?"

"There are few sailors under the stars that don't know of Long John Silver and her Terrible Truth. Its my first time seeing her, but even in this state the Truth gets my heart racing. I always wanted to cross blades with Silver. Its almost ironic me using Belle on her." He lets out a small chuckle and folds his arms again.

You see the doctor exit Silver's quarters, wiping his hands on his vest and adjusting his glasses.

Doctor, doctor give me news! Writing!

You lightly jog up to the ship's doctor. He's a short, somewhat rotund, aged man with wire-frame bifocals. A few wisps of white hair still cling to his otherwise shining scalp. His face is perpetually warped into one of concern with his large eyebrows and sad eyes. He's what you'd think of when you think of a kindly grandfather-like figure.

"Give it us straight, Doc. How's it looking." You ask. After a second of thought, he purses his lips and says in a raspy, kind voice. "All things considered, better than we should be. Part of it due to your intervention in the matter, Miss Kana. I doubt we could have lasted through the boarding party. Especially after that barrage of grape. We owe you our lives." He gives you a thoughtful, kind smile and lightly touches the side of your shoulder. "As for the captain, she'll be fine. She's away again and bandaged, but still a little fatigued from the fight. If you'd like to see her, I won't stop you." The doctor pardons himself to attend to more wounded pirates, ushering Ahab to assist him. Ahab loudly complains, but follows along with the doctor.

You push open the door to Silver's quarters again. The lady captain is sitting up in her bed, her chest covered only in bandages. Her hands, right leg and foot are covered in bandages. You see the stump where her left leg was without its prosthetic for the first time. A large scar runs along the end where the meat was sewn together.

"Kana! I'm sure Doc Moreau already said so, but thank you. Things could have been far worse if you hadn't decided to intervene." Silver's voice is lined with fatigue and a hit of sadness. "I just wish I could have done more. Save just one more of my men."

"Its not your fault." You walk closer to Silver's bed. "They were using ambush tactics some kind of teleporting ÄRM or invisibility or some other bullshit like that! Coward tactics." Silver's eyes stare at the stump of her left leg as her slender fingers sightly grab at her satin sheets. She clearly is grieving deeply for her men. "You want to honor their memory? Make their deaths mean something!" You extend your hand to her and, for the first time since you entered the room she looks up at you. Small droplets forming at the corners of her gray eyes. Not of sorrow but of frustration. "Help me hunt these fuckers down. Nemo and Bluebeard are the names of the assholes who blasted your crew. Help me find them and their Chess allies and shut them down for good!"

She stifles her tears and smiles that confident smile you remember from yesterday before taking your hand. "I can do revenge. Nemo can't outrun the Truth, even if he flees to solid ground. If she can't follow; then I will." You return her grin and the two of you shake on it.

>Follower Unlocked: "Long John" Silver

"Now then," She pipes up, "Help me find my leg. Doc took it off when he looked me over and I don't know where it rolled away to." The two of you spend the better part of two minutes looking for that blasted silver and wood peg leg before finally finding it had rolled under the headboard of Silver's bed. She opts to simply drape her coat over her shoulders and forego a shirt since the bandages cover up anything worth seeing.

As you exit, you see Doc Moreau arguing with a sailor and Ahab once again staring at the fallen mast. You look over to Silver. She stares at her ship's doctor with a fond smile and shakes her head before heading in that direction to mediate.

With so many sailors dead or injured, Silver asks you and Ahab to help bring the Terrible Truth into port. According to her, the trip would normally be a couple of days, but without the main sail, you could double that timetable. The main mast is completely beyond salvage however there the Chess ship itself is quickly picked clean by your pirate associates and repurposed on the Truth to repair the damaged hull or as spares in case of other needs. Silver and the crew decide to scuttle what remains of the Sloop to serve as a tomb for Nemo's victims as well as for the pirates who perished in the attack. Doc Moreau takes the place of a chaplain for the memorial service as Silver still cannot get through a sentence or two without choking up while giving a personal eulogy for each of the fourteen men who lost their lives in her service.

Once that is done, you have Ahab and Silver show you how to be a sailor. With your enhanced strength, the task takes much less effort than they expected. Once you commit the movements to memory the two captains sit back to watch you scurry around filling the roles of half the deck crew at once. Even then, after a short rest, you have time to fill.

You decide the best use of that time is spent training with one of your ÄRMs.

Unfortunately two of them are unable to train with you at the same time thanks to the shortage of personnel on hand.

The Kanabo treated us well, but god I want fire fists. We can have our fists on fire without having to actually throw fireballs right?

Trained and feared pirate seems like a solid bet. Also lets her blow off steam after all the deaths.
>>

This is probably the one needed to work with. One, to not cause collateral damage, and two, because we need to figure out what else it can do.

>>
>>2097671
>Train with the Inferno Fists
We're pretty darn okay with the Kanabo as-is, but we're not too well-practiced with our Nature ÄRM. On that note...

>Have Ahab train with you.
IC, he's the only one we know of that has an offensive-use Nature ÄRM. If anyone could give us pointers, it's him... So long as he doesn't take this as an opportunity to fuck with us.

You have a decent grasp on your Kanabo skills, but your Nature ÄRM's abilities are far more alien to you. To help you better understand and utilize the Inferno Fists to their fullest extent, you manage to persuade Ahab, who you've seen use a Lightning Nature ÄRM, help you. He asks you to show him what you already can do with them, so you naturally light it up and start throwing fireball punches over the sides of the ship.

"I see. That seems like the main function of the ÄRM. Compared to my Thunder Harpoon, its actually rather simple. That said, you're acutally using two identical Nature ÄRMs at the same time." He give you a review of your performance alongside his insight. That might explain why you feel so drained after extended training with them.

"Onishi, how long ago did you start using these ÄRMs?"

"Only since yesterday."

"That would also explain it."

"Explain what? Isn't that what I brought you here to do?" You fold your arms, extinguishing the flames.

"Synchronization. What, have you never used an ÄRM before?"

"Long story short, no." You decide to leave your origins in the dark until a more fitting time.

"Jeez how bothersome." He complains before continuing on. "When it comes to ÄRMs, their effectiveness depends on how well it and the user connect. Not to say that ÄRMs are living things, but if an ÄRM user isn't a good match for their ÄRM, or they haven't had enough time training with it, their Synchronization is off and lowers their over all power in combat. This can also happen if a user's emotions are out of control. To an ÄRM user, intense emotion can make or break a battle."

He pauses to let that burst of information sink in, though your a little offended at how much of a pause there is inbetween. You're not an idiot, you just like fighting. Idiot.

"After seeing you fight and how you react outside of battles, I'd say you have an affinity for Weapon ÄRMs as well as offensive and defensive Nature and Guardian ÄRMs. Holy ÄRMs wouldn't feel right with your more aggressive personality and your preference for fighting wouldn't mesh well well with most Dimension ÄRMs." He folds his hands behind is head, looking off to the side to avoid eye contact you and blushing slightly he continues on, "And honestly you're too nice of a girl to use Darkness ÄRMs."

>cont.
>>
>>2097776
You decide to change the subject quickly. "I got a little bit of a breakdown on some of these ÄRM categories, but Silver never told me what Holy and Darkness ÄRMs do. Are there other categories out there?"

"I'm not an expert in any form of the word, but from what I know there are seven categories that ÄRMs fall in. Simple, Weapon, Nature, Guardian, Dimension, Holy and Darkness. Holy ÄRMs are items that can either heal or break curses brought on by Darkness ÄRMs. Darkness ÄRMs can create curses and typically have powerful effects, but have some sort of unpleasant cost for the user. Sometimes they can be worked around, like Nemo's Midnight Sabre, but most of the time they user just has to grin and bear it." You get the feeling that Ahab has some personal experience beyond being Nemo's loophole.

That's it for tonight folks. I work tomorrow morning to I have to head to best slightly earlier. I'll see you all tomorrow when I get home.

This is your routine for the rest of the journey. You wake up and take care of the deck work in the morning, breaking for lunch and then moving into form training with Ahab for your Inferno Fists. It's difficult. More difficult than you could imagine. You get frustrated constantly and threaten Ahab with a fistfight every time he makes a joke at your expense. On the final day...

"SAY THAT AGAIN YOU FISH BITCH?!" You scream in his face.

"I SAID YOU DON'T HAVE THE MAGICAL POWER TO EFFECTIVELY USE ONE, LET ALONE BOTH OF THOSE INFERNO FISTS! YOU'D BE BETTER OF TRYING TO SPIT ON THE CHESS TO DO DAMAGE THAN HIT 'EM WITH THOSE SHITTY LITTLE FIREBALLS." You howls back at you.

"My, oh my~" A catty wave from a smirking Silver who is spectating from a comfortable seat nearby. "Don't you two behave just like siblings! It's adorable~" She presses her hands lightly to her cheeks as fawns of this silly mental image in her mind.

"STAY OUT OF THIS!" The two of you bark back at the captain, nearly making her fall off the railing.

"WHY?!" You turn your attention back to Ahab. "WHY CAN'T I RAISE MY MAGIC POWER OR WHATEVER? I'VE BEEN TRAINING NONSTOP WITH YOU ALL WEEK!" Your screams become less threats and more pleas desperate for answers.

Ahab's snarling face cools down as he takes a deep breath. "It because I'm not a good trainer. I told you before, I'm not an expert. Hell I'm little more than a novice with ÄRMs. I know the basics of what makes them work but honestly, I've got about as much Magical Power as you. That is to say none." He scowls again at the sky. You stay silent for a moment as you let the former sea captain's confession sink in.

"So that's what you've been doing on my ship?" Silver's catty taunts break the tension once again. "I just thought you were play fighting~." You can feel a vein in forehead throb as your blood boils with the taunt. "If you're interested in raising your Magic Power, I think I know someone who can help!"

You blink in surprise. "THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING EARLIER?! I COULD HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE RATHER THAN FUCKING AROUND WITH THIS ASSHOLE!" You shout and point at Ahab.

"SAME GOES FOR YOU, BITCH!" He snaps back.

"Such good friends~" Silver muses to herself.

"But yes, once we reach port, I'll introduce you to the Master." She gives you a thumbs up before hopping down from the rail and going back inside her cabin.

~~~
You wake up to the sounds of seagulls; a sound you haven't heard since running into the Chess raider. The look out is shouting something down. What is it? Your head starts to clear away the sleep and you finally comprehend.
"Land! Approaching Reginleif Port!" There are other orders being shouted around by the quartermaster and the first mate, but not to you.
You decide to talk with Ahab alone before the three of you head out. Without turning his head, it seems he was aware of your arrival.
"And here we are. Finally at port after so long." He sounds tired. "And this is where we part ways." He turns to look at you with serious eyes. "What do you plan on doing now?"
"That's easy. I'm going to find the asshole who summoned me here and then I'm going to kick the collective asses of the Chess. Preferably in that order, but I could go either way." You point to yourself confidently.
"Summoned? What are you talking about?" Ahab folds his arms and raises an eyebrow. Oh yeah. It's been a whole week and you haven't so much as mentioned not being a native of this world.
"So this is going to sound absolutely fucking insane, but I got summoned here from another world through some Dimension ÄRM. With a gate guarded by a clown with plus-shaped eyes." I don't know what exactly its called but it dumped me in the middle of nowhere. That's when I fell off a cliff and stowed away on the Truth. One-Shotted Silver's Guardian with my bat after knocking a third of the crew into the drink. That's when I got to keep the ÄRMs from Silver's hold." You give an abbreviated summary of your antics prior to the Chess ship.
You keep a completely serious face the entire time as Ahab's hard stare covers for the hamster working overtime in the wheel that is this moron's brain.
"You're nuts. I've been trying to train a crazy chick." He turns his back to you, resting his hands on the rails and hanging his head in shame.
"I-I am not!" You protest this accusation. "Why do you think I can do everything you've seen me do so far with out a single ÄRM to boost my abilities? I was summoned here because someone knows or at least believes that people like me can help in the war against the Chess. So I'm going to beat the tar out of them with these powers and then go tell Ya-" You cut yourself off before going too far into unnecessary detail. "Then go home and fulfill a promise."
You hope your earnest attitude will win him over.
He sighs again and lifts his head. "Let's say I believe you. Sure, your from world of fucking supermen or something and you're here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. How are you getting back?"
"I... I'm working on that part." You fold your arms and avoid eye contact. "I don't have to rush home. What's the point of a trip if you don't have some memories and souvenirs to take back with you?" You offer as a counter point.
"Fuckin' Hell..." He places his hands in his pockets. "Well, if you're just some delusional broad, someone has to make sure you don't go around hurting yourself or others, besides the Chess that is. Plus, our goals are currently aligned. For now, I think I'll stick around. I'm getting a power boost out of this, so its not too much of a hastle." He makes excuses and you can't help but give a skeptical smile.
"Heeeey~ Lovebirds~ We're getting ready to go~" Silver taunts the two of you from the gangplank. The two of you shout back different obscene threats, but do make your way over to her.
The town is massive and lively, in the distance you see an equally large castle looming over the city like you'd imagine a lord might do with his subjects. Your stomach growls loudly as the smell of finely roasted meats waft through the market square.
From the fire burning behind Ahab's eyes, you feel you've got his vote. However, Silver, the one with all the money on this adventure, makes a pained expression.
"Er... That place looks like it has... uh... Rats!" She makes some nervous excuses. "W-what about that place over there?" She points to a run-down diner at the back of a dark alley. It's sign is barely hanging on to a single, rusted chain link as it sways noisily in the breeze.
A bad feeling hardens in the pit of your stomach as you imagine what the food in there must taste like.
Sorry for the wait, I'm feeling much better and fully rested!
"Well, that bistro looked like the kind of place that'd only cater to rich assholes anyway." You attempt to justify it to yourself.
"Yeah!" Silver chimes in, "Plus I know the owner of this place. He'll give us a discount!" She quickly jogs down the alleyway cutting the run down building off from the rest of market. As you and a silently resigned Ahab follow, you make out that the worn sign calls this place the Deep Dive. She's taking you to a bar.
You enter with Ahab to find that Silver is already being chewed out by a thin, bald man. You think he might be about the same age as your dad, but has the complexion of someone who'd spent their entire 40-something years baking in the ocean sun.
"...And what's more, you have to unmitigated GALL to pull back into port having broken my poor Truth to pieces! So, no! I'm not gonna give you a break! If anything, you..." He trails off as his eyes turn from her to you. You know that look. You've had drunk business men who wandered too close to the park give you that same look. And you know how to deal with it.
>Cunning! Get that discount for Silver by pretend to flirt!
We kicked some serious Chess ass after they tried to ambush us. If it wasn't for Silver a lot more of her crew would have died. If that's not worth a discount, I don't know what is.
You use this opening in his defense for an attack you've never really had much need to use in the past: seduction! You take a deep breath and puff out your chest as you lean down over the bar.
"Oh but sir," You lay it on thick, "Were it not for Captain Silver's brave crew and effective commands, sure much less of the Truth would have made it back to shore after those awful Chess attacked us. They rarely leave survivors, don't they?" You don't actually know if they do or not, but pumping up their cred makes it the Truth's survival even more miraculous. "Surely if that itself isn't worth a meager discount then you must not value the Truth that highly."
You aren't sure if this cueball was even paying attention to a word you said. His eyes are staring directly at one thing and one thing only. You don't normally get embarrassed easily, but this kind of blatant lecherous behavior makes you... uncomfortable. You're about to lose it and clobber him for his indecent leering when he snaps out of it.
"Ah, you're right, little lady," Little? Motherfucker, I'm almost as tall as you. "Perhaps I'm being to hard on the lady Silver. How rude of me." His attempts at being suave come in far too late. Plus, you're 16 and he's gotta be middle aged. Ick. "Meals on the house tonight!" Silver cheers and gives you smack on the back. You go back to being your usually violently aloof self as the three of you sit down for lunch.
"So you two seem to know this place well." You start, "Are you guys from around here or is this just a popular stop on the Märchen World Tour?"
Ahab is the first to respond. "Nah, I'm from Lestava originally. That's on the Southern Continent. But I switched to fishing work around here. The ocean is my home. It sounds a bit cheesy but that's how I feel." He takes a large bite from the pork cutlet on his plate.
"I was actually born in this port, yeah, but like Ahab, the sea is where I feel at home. That's how I know Ben Bones there." She gestures to the slimy bartender, who waves at you with a smile. You sneer at his gesture, getting a confused look from him. "Its also the reason I know the Master."
"You're taking them to Master Flint?" Ben butts in, nearly dropping the copper mug he was polishing. "Are you back on talking terms with him?" Seems like there's a story there.
"Not that he knows about, but this is an exception!" Silver makes her counterpoint.
"Well... whatever the case, good luck. He's not been the same since his wife passed." Ben's eyes droop in sorrow at mentioning it. Maybe he isn't as bad as you were thinking. He's still shamelessly perverted, but he's not complete scum, at least.
You shovel the meat and bread into your gob. Despite the appearance of this place, the food is delicious. Of course for the past week, you've had nothing but increasingly watery stew made with preserved beef and dried vegetables, so anything different would taste good. In between bites, you continue having a conversation.
"Sho... Wha happund 'tween you an yer mashter?" You words muffled and warped through the partially chewed food. You swallow the mouthful and immediately replace it with another. Silver, who is nibbling on the leafy greens surrounding a masterfully seared salmon, twirls her fork and offers her explanation.
"I... left. I wanted to pursue the life I lead now and he wanted me to join with Reginleif's navy. I'm not made to be a soldier and I didn't signed up to be one." She takes a bite of her food. "Maybe he was the Chess coming or something... Well anyway, we had a fight and I left part way through my magic training. I hadn't seen or talked to him since."
"Sounds like you made the right choice." Ahab speaks up. "I bet you'd have spent half your time in a cell with that mouth of yours. You don't strike me as someone who takes orders well either."
"Then I'm glad your such a good judge of character." She says flatly. "But regardless, he's the only person I can think of with the Ärms perfect for training up magic power.
The three of you finish your plates, Silver thanking Ben for the meals and Ben making one last pass at you, but this time you freely threaten to rip off his manhood if he tries anything. He gets the message and vows to be good. Your companions laugh as you all leave.
You, Silver and Ahab spend the next hour walking between pop up booths and brick-and-mortar stores that sell Ärms, inquiring about the Clown Ärm that called you to this world. Of course you don't put it into those words, everyone would think you're crazy. You simply ask if they sell or have seen a Dimension Ärm that matches your description. A few weaselly snake oil salesmen claim to have it and would show it to you for a price, but either Silver would shout them down about their practices or you and Ahab would simply give them the standard issue 'Delinquent Stare' and they would back down and admit to their ignorance of the item in question.
"Sorry, Kana." Silver apologized for the wasted time. "But, hey, this is a relatively small kingdom and there's only a few people who can use Ärms other than Simple and Weapon types. We can always as Master when we get there, if he doesn't know then he can at least direct us to someone who can." The way Silver talk about him makes you think of all those old wizards from storybooks.
"What kind of person is Flint?" You ask bluntly. The hour of your meeting is fast approaching and you want to at least a bit of an idea of what you're up against. Silver thinks it over carefully, probably combing through years of memories to give you an accurate description.
"He was a very kind man. Very focused and driven, but patient and compassionate. The kind of man who will make you push your limits, but at speed that doesn't kill you. He can be stubborn at times, but he means well." She seems to have some fond memories stored away along side that argument. From the sound of her description the guy is very skilled as a teacher; going as fast or as slow as he needs to with his pupils.
The three of you stop outside a small, one story house. Its unpainted and there are weeds growing in the garden near its gate. Silver looks confused.
"Odd... Master was always so diligent with his garden. Is this what Ben meant?" Right. Ben said that Flint hadn't been the same since his wife passed away. Depression does tend to cause people to lose interests in their hobbies. Guy must still be grieving, but you don't have the time for that. You need to get stronger now if you're going to kick the Chess in their collective asses. Silver opens the gate and calls out to the darkened house.
"Master Flint? Are you there? Its Silver! I came back and I brought some friends with me!" There's a long moment of silence that makes you worry that maybe he moved away while no one was paying attention. After all this house would be filled with painful reminders of his wife for him now.
Suddenly the door opens a crack. You can see tufts of white hair from a long beard occasionally brush past the doorframe. A single eye catches the rays of the sun and you think you can see the curves of his crack lips move. A strong rough voice belts out from the silhouette.
"Silver? That really you?"
"Y-Yes! Master are you okay? You're garden-"
"Fuck off! I don't need traitors like you soiling my name further!"
Ouch. You see the exact moment those words cut straight through Silvers heart. You feel blood boil as you see the crushed expression on Silver's face. Yeah she'd left partway through her training, but it was only because he tried to force her into a position she didn't want.
You can see Silver is biting her lip to stop herself from saying anything, but that's not going to stop you.
"Oh go fuck yourself, you old shit!" You take a three full, aggressive steps forward before Ahab manages to get a handle on you, holding you back from unleashing your strength on some white whiskered asshole and doing who knows how much property damage. Despite this, you continue to shout. "Like you'd fucking care if she soiled your name further. You're already scum if that's how you treat someone who wants to talk. You got a problem with someone wanting to do things their way?"
There's a long pause before the door opens wider and you see a beansalk of a man to accompany that beard. You think that, once upon a time, there used to be some substantial muscle on his bones, but time and grief have done a number on him.
"It seems that I was right about what your 'dream' would lead to. Such unrefined company you keep nowadays, Silver." His voice and posture make you think of a noble, but he goes to insult her further which only makes you angrier. "Now then, young lady, I believe it must come down to me to teach you some basic manners when talking with your betters. If you learn your lessons well, I might be so inclined to listen to this traitorous wretch." His words regain some of the venom you'd heard before Flint came out of his home.
"You make let her go now, young man." He addresses Ahab, who obeys, clicking his tongue in disgust at being commanded to do anything. "Let's see if you have what it takes to make me listen, whelp!"
