>87+5>Freighter hailed You tap away at the armrest mounted keyboard and bring up a comms channel with the Freighter. The icon flashes for several seconds before being accepted. Immediately your vid screen changes to show a haggard and pale Rkkkrtkkki, the bars on his upper arm bands denoting his rank of captain. His eyes roll uneasily as he clears his throat with a gurgling whinny and speaks"This one, the honored captain of the "Plains Runner" begs to ask why you have assaulted us and slain our escort. We have nothing of value to you!"The pale Equine xeno huffs unhappily, wiping its long brow and glancing around its bridge You lean forward, gritting your teeth as you jab your finger forward"Cut the shit. I know you have a Corti Jump drive in your cargo. You will eject ALL of your cargo. NOW. or i will scan your ship, find it and shoot everything that ISN'T what I want. Including you, your crew and anything else on board."You growl, bringing up your solid target locks on several volatile areas of the ship."A-a Corti Jump drive? Surely you are mistaken! This one- this one is just a simple freighter captain! Unworthy of transporting something so valued and rare! Surely we can come to some agreement of-"You cut him off, slamming your fist down and roaring into the video feed"SAVE YOUR LIES! I KNOW that you have it. YOU know that you have it. Give it to me or I will kill all of you and TAKE it"For emphasis you take control of Eric's weapon displays from your key board and fire a stray shot through what your scans tell you is a sparsely populated crew compartment. The Rkkkrtkkki captain pales even further as damage alerts begin blaring through the ship and his narrow shoulders slump unhappily before he nods. "This one.... Will eject the Cargo... This one pleads for your mercy."You grunt, Satisfied as the various cargo containers detach from the freighters scaffolding, each one varying in size from several meters across to large enough to park the Malcontent inside. You gesture towards Joanna and Jugnur, waving your hand towards the suddenly cargo populate section of space"You guys care to start scanning?"They both sigh in exasperation, Jugnurs flanks flashing bright yellow and Pale red in irritation as the various sensors across the Malcontents hull begin analyzing the cargo field>Roll me 1d100+10 to see if you find anything good with the Jump Drive

(2D100-10 for accuracy, 2d100+10 for a damage)You scroll through the analyzed results of the spaced cargo bays and snort in surprise at the contents of several. One is full of fermented Duktra fruit (a popular narcotic among Rkkkrtkkki and Coves), another contains several machines used in creating false identification chips. The third makes you sit up in interest as you take in the results "Is that a Fucking Hydra? How the fuck.... You know what I dont even want to know."You laugh as you mark it for retrieval, bringing your ship alongside the small, unmarked crate emitting a curious amount of energy. You'd bet your bottom dollar and your left nut that that's the Jump drive.Your cargo bay doors open to the void and void suit equipped crewmembers jet out on their compressed gas thrusters, attaching thin cables to tow the crate back into the belly of the ship. Once it is onboard you head over the to the large, military marked cargo container and the process repeats, the large container just barely scraping by the doors to the cargo bay.You grin as the bay doors close and the space pressurizes, the crew within immediately prying open the crates. Within minutes a picture is sent to your comm-unit. A unassuming black box with various leads and wires emerging from its edges and a thin blue strip pulsing in its center."Fuck me Fucking sideways... I thought it'd be fancier. My shoes are bigger than that thing!"You laugh, running the image by your reference picture. It seems to be a match and the energy it emits would be hard to fake."Whoo! Boys and girls we got ourselves a jump drive!"Cheers and applause echo through the bridge as you send orders for the Jump drive to be secured SAFELY and very very securely, Rithik silently leaves to watch over the extremely valuable cargo.Jugnur grunts at you, sending a file on the recovered Hydra Railgun."That is a serious piece of hardware Wick. We could get it installed at Heaven station, sell it for quite a bit of money or trade it in."You nod and take it under consideration as you gesture towards the crippled and submitting freighter."What to do with these twats? However, Hunters leave no witnesses. Set up a beacon to broadcast to the hunters the veritable undefended buffet that awaits them, and let them take the blame for this one...after we blow the freighter's comm array. Now not only do dead men tell no tales, but hunters take the blame. And while very, very unlikely, having an untrustworthy favor with a hunter could be beneficial, even if it is just the promise of you leading them to more food.
>Anybody else wish to vote?
>>2089639Modifying my suggestion.>Other-Kill their distress beacon, deploy beacon to attract hunters. Inform the crew of this. They have two choices, pile into life vessels or escape pods, and get picked up by you, to be at your mercy, or the hunters. Anyone who wants to chance it to see who comes to help them first, that's on them. (kill anyone who stays behind after the fact via taking out life support/ decompression)-Encourage them to bring any supplies they need for long term survival or valuables....because ya know, piracy.-Afterwards we see what the prisoners can be useful for, conscripts, or perhaps to be sold as slaves for a nice bonus to this mission.

>Dump a signal broadcasting Hunter frequencies.>Inform them of their fate.>Slavery time. You are suddenly struck by a vicious, cold, purely piratical idea. Your once sea-faring forebears would be proud of you. "Jojo... Dump a buoy. Broadcast LOUDLY"You say with a cruel smile, stroking the stubble on your chin as your plan comes to image within your mind."Eric, target their distress beacon via the scans and blow it. Dont want them calling for help."Eric quickly complies, the ship shuddering as a shot flies out, spearing into what was most likely their comms station. Sparks and atmosphere fly through the hole in the hull as the delicate sensors and relays are pulverized.Joanna turns to you in confusion"Broadcasting on what frequencies captain?"She asks curiously, a selection already available on her data screens.Your animal grin could terrify a Skaali as you lean back, scrolling through your choices before settling on one and sending it to her with a flick of your fingers. Her face pales a bit and she licks her lips nervously, doublechecking as if you were mistaken. Your eyes glimmer in the dim lighting as you recline, uttering a single word."Hunter"Immediately ever eye in the bridge is on you, not in judgment but in terrified awe and more than a little fear. Jugnur clears his throat and speaks up"Hunter? Why would we call those monsters here?"Eric speaks up as well, his toothpick remaining still for a moment"Hes gotta point boss. We can't fight a Hunter ship. Not with our current guns"You cackle happily as you stand, smacking Eric on his shoulder"And we wont. But if Hunters come and clear the survivors off that ship and scrap it for parts, would they suspect Hunters? Or pirates? They'll never know it was us. As for the crew? We give em the option to either come with us and Be sold to the highest bidder... Or be eaten alive."Eric smiles broadly as Jugnurs flanks flash a sickly yellow before a Dark blue, queasiness but agreement. The hulking Gugnurug speaks up, coughing slightly"While.... Cruel.. The screams continue however from the mass of terrified Rkkkrtkkki slaves against the wall, their eyes fixed on the beast savaging their former leaders body. You round on them, turning the volume of your helmet all the way up."I AM NOT TO BE BARGAINED WITH. You OBEY when I tell you something and do NOT fuck with me or you will face the same fate he did!"You roar as your men shoulder their weapons, sights trained on the cowering Xenos. You pause as you walk past Rithik, the Gaoian snarling as primal instincts take over and his powerful jaws crush bones"Whatever you don't eat, dump into the garbage chute. Most seem ready to get back to a port and relax for a bit.The return to Heaven station goes faster than you would think and as you were in the middle of a tense game of Tr'ctr with a few of your crew when you receive the notification that the ship is ready to drop out of FTL.You rise, pocketing your winnings and waving away complaints as you make your way back to the bridge, the Malcontent juddering under your feet as it tears its way back into reality. Your com-unit beeps happily as Jugnur calls you"Were back in Heaven Station space Captain. Shall I have our employer come to us or should we set up a meeting place?"You consider the options. Meeting them HERE gives you the upper hand in negotiations and keeps them from getting frisky. They may get nervous and bail if you press them too hard however. >Notify them to bring a shuttle to the Malcontent >Send a message and meet them in a isolated docking bay.>Dock the Malcontent and meet them in the bay>Other

>Maintenance tunnels takes itYou look uneasily at the entrance to the main market/city/slums of Heaven station and shudder as you imagine the swarms of thieves that will descend on such a obviously valuable cargo. An opening to the maintenance tunnels catches your eye. While rarely used for actual maintenance the tunnels are a exceptional way to get around the station without being seen by the public. As long as your ready to shoot a ganger in the face every few steps you should be good."Arright boys lets get moving. Well take the tunnels down to Storage bay 37-G and meet our clients there"You wave your men after you, the Vostok flanking you, weapons primed and glowing as your crew bring their weapons to bear. The tunnels are cramped and damp, lit only by flashes from sparking circuits and dim red lights inset in the ceiling. Everywhere are fetid puddles of putrid water and other liquids. Rusted metal and jagged stone are everywhere, just waiting to snag your elbow on. The Vostok remain completely silent, no doubt their intricate suits sensor suites running through every possible scan for danger. The tunnel slopes slightly downward and the trickle of water on the floor becomes a slight stream cutting a path through the years of filth. A busted water line somewhere above you is obviously the culprit. Checking your Holographic map of Heaven station you procured years ago you check your progress. Not so bad actually. Your only three levels above G deck, the nearly abandoned storage area used mainly as a hideout or burial ground for the poorer members of the stations slums. >Open fire! You grab your pistol and slap your com-unit, the multipurpose tool emitting a bright beam of white light ahead of you, illuminating the feral Skaali warriors ahead of you. The insectoids aliens stand nearly as tall as you, their dark green carapace splattered with filth and congealed blood. Their scything claws carry scraps of skin and tissue in the barbs, homemade tattoos still visible on the larger pieces. You note with detached interest that this must be why you hadn't seen any gangers so far. The Skaali must have been brought in as grubs on someone's cargo and matured down in the tunnels. Nasty little buggers. You draw your sights on a particularly large one and squeeze the trigger of your beam pistol as its mandibles open in a screech of fury"KILL EM ALL!"Your shot lances out, a beam of blazing blue light that impacts the charging Skaali in its upper thorax, the carapace cracking under the intense heat and acrid blood and foul liquids hissing as they emerge as putrid steam. One of its scything limbs falls limply to the ground, a hunk of scorched tissue stretching between the limb and its former owner. It collapses backward with a pained squeal, kicking wildly. The Vostok mercenaries spin their limbs quickly, unleashing a torrent of fire into the pack of raging Skaali. Flesh and carapace warp and smolder under the rain of plasma as the pitiless mercenaries expert fire. You set your sights on a Skaali clambering onto the wall, obviously intent on dropping from above. Your beam of burning energy lances straight through the base of its head. It collapses with a agonized screech as flash boiled organs bubble from the smoking wound, steam curling from the cauterized flesh. You leap backwards as a hooked claw swings from the darkness, the tip just barely hissing by your nose. You bring the beam of light and your beam pistol to bear on a howling Skaali warrior barely six feet from you. You leap backwards as another swipe comes dangerously close to gutting you and fire desperately. The bolt of burning energy punches a neat circular hole through the enraged insects thorax. You liberate it from its unhappy existence with a bolt of blazing energy through the center of its thorax. It collapses backwards, rocking as its shell becomes a oven, its organs popping in puffs of steam and foul smoke. You step over its smoking body and fire a second shot into the weakly crawling Skaali, its scorched organs trailing behind it from the gaping hole in its abdomen. The beam of energy lances through the back of its head, one of its compound eyes popping from the intense heat and pressure as its limited brains are vaporized. You brace your foot on the final Skaali, its thorax basically a crackling fire at this point, it weakly flails at your leg, eyes clouded by agony and rage as you dial up the energy and take aim"Should've brought some bug spray"The slightly wider than usual beam nearly gives you arc burn as it scores a perfectly round, glowing hole through the center of the Skaali's head. It flops backward, twitching spasmodically. The Vostok speaker stomps back to you, its weapons hissing and steaming."Eleven hostile Skaali contacts neutralized. Three fled engagement, pursuit ill advised. Zero damage to cargo, employer or crew. >75! Sneeki beeki You aren't sure if its the stench of burning Skaali or your numbers that keep away the less desirable denizens of the tunnels but you Dont see anything other than a particularly stupid Dzizi rat that trundles past like a purple football with legs. Before long you find yourself on G deck with the numbers of storage bays slowly counting up. Some of the bays you pass are inhabited by particularly miserable groups of vagrants and bums, eking out a existence down here, feeding off of filth, vermin and each other. You have no doubt if you were unarmed or in a smaller group you would've been mobbed and torn apart for your clothes alone but the humming weapons pointed everywhere keeps the scum away.Storage bay 37 is sealed by a massive metal door a pair of dark skinned Rkkkrtkkki armed with heavy pulse rifles. They grunt in greeting, waving you in as they cover your back from scavengers sneaking up on you.A certain High Caste contact is waiting behind a large metal table in the center of the cavernous space, the six low caste guards stationed around the room obviously giving him a false sense of security. He stands, ducking his head politely as you enter"Captain Wick! This one is pleased to see you again. By your message this one assumes you have the package? Is the Jump drive... You gesture at the crate and nod in agreement"That it is! One Corti made Jump Drive, as requested. Now.. You made the order. I delivered the package. Ships enter through a massive kinetic forcefield that retains the atmosphere within the cavernous space. Vessels ranging on size from corvettes and frigates used by scrappers and pirates to colossal smuggler freighters and mining rigs drift by, crews of mechanics toiling on them like busy insects. You find a fat, elderly Corvesh reclining in a quadripedal, motorized chair, bellowing orders at a group of young mechanics, wriggling into the carcass of a scrapped corvette like parasites. >Ill take 1 Banth plsYou scroll through the selection of vicious fighting beasts, hulking guard animals and cute, fluffy pets while making a dissatisfied noise at each one. None of these will do. You want something that will make it obvious you are a man of danger and exotic tastes!Just as you open your mouth to voice your displeasure to Ghorko a scream of agony within the rear of the pavilion startles you both. A low caste Rkkkrtkkki servant stumbles in, its indigo hide paling by the second due to its copious blood loss, one of its lower arms torn off at the elbow.Ghorko curses darkly, waving over one of his guards to deal with the injured slave. He turns apologetically to you and waves a broad hand at his servants "I have told him to keep out of reach of the Banth when he feeds it. Perhaps now he will listen?"He chuckles in his own tongue as you curiously standYou motion towards the back and clear your throat"You have a Banth? Ive only seen a stuffed one once when I was younger. Theyre astounding!"You exclaim excitedly, memories of the vicious octopedal predator coming to the forefront of your mind. Ghorko, sensing a big sale stands and wraps a leathery arm over your shoulders, much to the Vostok speakers concern and leads you into the back of the pavilion. His 'tent' is merely the office of a large warehouse full of cages housing creatures from all over the galaxy. Truakir rage against bars as thick as your leg, gnashing fangs that could pierce starship hulls. Aldian vipers coil among each other in glistening loops, baring their fangs as Ghorko leads you on. A Rkkkrtkkki servant walks by carrying a large bucket of squeaking Dzizi rats, tossing the witless rodents to be devoured by countless hungry mouths. The trail of thin green blood leads you to a cage set away from the others, a relaxing, vaguely feline body curled inside. Ghorko barks in his native tongue and the creature lazily raises its head, regarding you with four amber eyes. It licks its muzzle with a long purple long, yawning to reveal a disproportionately large mouth that you imagine could swallow you whole. It ducks its head into its legs and emerges with the Rkkkrtkkki's missing arm, gnawed and shredded. Ghorko turns and gestures at the beast"Young male Banth! Bought him as a pup from some fool who thought he had a Phirlos hound! Lucky the little beast didnt eat him alive!"He chuckles"He is dear to me but I will sell him if you wish. I believe we can secure a great deal of profit for each other!"After assuring Ghorko you will sell and buy slaves only with him on Heaven station you beg your leave, Ghorko promising to have the Banth delivered to your ship along with explicit instructions on how to gain the beasts loyalty. You make your way back out of Ghorkos tent and stretch your shoulders, light bruises already forming from Ghorko's heavy hands.>Visit the weapons merchants>Go get a drink and listen for gossip>visit the blood pits>Head back to the Malcontent. The heavy combat carapaces and pulse rifles will allow them a serious amount of staying power against most civilian targets. Your own selection of full suit of heavy combat armor appeals entirely to your own vanity and entirely reasonable sense of self importance. The military grade plasma rifle? That's an entirely reasonable purchase that is in no way wasteful and unneeded. You leave the transaction with a decidedly depleted account balance and a invoice stating delivery to the Malcontent. The strung out Keshig bleats unhappily as it scurries away. Your trek back to the Malcontents docking bay is complete in nearly record time. You bellow orders to the crew lounging around the docking bay and they snap to immediately, running aboard as you stride up behind then, taking note of the upgrades installed much faster than you thought possible. The Hydra railgun sits proudly atop the hull, both sleek barrels capable of firing independently or in a single barrage. Your new Taurus sits on the opposite side of the hull of the original, next to the Longshot missile launcher. Stepping up the cargo ramp you take note of the large black crates with T-1297X's logo on the side. On the other side of the cargo bay is a large, covered cage with warning symbols emblazoned on it in a dozen different languages. You open a quick com-link to the bridge and connect with Joanna"Jojo! Im back onboard. Call up the stragglers and get us out. You would prefer a bit of security for this and what better than Secure cargo space? While you are riding the lift you bring up the instructions forwarded by old Ghorko. The holpgrapic screen of your com-unit flashes with lists, tips and advice and you swallow uneasily as you take in the most prominant bits of advice. Your arms, legs and chest are covered in thick, black polymer plates, the joints and seams covered in smaller scales of the same material over a nanofabric weave of the same material. The inside of the plates are filled with a reactive gel that solidifies at dangerous impact points before reverting back to a liquid. The final piece of the armor is the helmet, a disc of black material that scans your physiology before unfolding into a featureless rounded shell around your head, meshing seamlessly with the undersuit. You twist your stun batons handle, the metal expanding into a nearly six foot long rod with a buzzing, arcing nimbus around its head. You roar to your men that are watching curiously from the walls"Clear the Fucking deck you maggots!"Before swinging the Stun lance around and spearing through the locking mechanism of the cage. The locking bolts retract with a heavy 'CLANK' and the door explodes outward as several hundred pounds of enraged Banth slam into it.You spin your lance around and back up, giving the Banth some room as it stretches and rolls its oversize head, snarling to reveal dozens of hooked fangs, its eight clawed paws leaving small scratches in the floor of the deck as it growls curiously, locking all four of its eyes on you. It creeps closer, watching you intently as its growl deepens, your refusal to move obviously angering it.>Give it a jab with the lance. Back! Back i say!>Smack it across the nose. BAD BANTH>Talk to it. Whos a good murderbeast? You are!>Give ground, it has to know your its friend.
>>2109421>>Give ground, it has to know your its friend.and be ready to taze the ever loving shit out of it. literally. dont stop till it voids itself if it comes at you.
>>2109421>>Give it a jab with the lance. Back! Back i say!
>>2109421Option E: stand your ground. You don't retreat from predators, and you don't get in their way once in motion either. Let/force it register and focus on you, punish attacks, but don't run or rush.
>>2110263my vote was mostly this, but now I align it to yours. If we are eaten, let it be known the brassy balls of Captain Wick will remain.

>>2110395brass is softer than hull plating, and boy do banth like chewing soft round metal balls.>Talk to it. Whos a good murderbeast? You are!
>>2111703That's why old cheaty Captain Wick actually has brass-plated adamantium balls. Or neutronium.
