It has been 100 years since ancient beings, known as the Old Ones, walked the Earth with their two strong feet. Now they are gone and we animals now rule the remains that they left behind. With our new knowledge of sword and sorcery, we were able to survive in peace for a while, but then came the three factions.
The Apes: Strong giants, claiming to be as just as the old ones and believe they should be the ones to rule over the new world.
The Pigs: An intellectual but slothful group who wish to rule the world with an iron hoof and remain kings while the others remained as dumb animals.
Then there the Lizards: A fast and large group that want to set the world a blaze. Trying to forget the harsh past that the old ones left.
All three sides wishing to go war and destroy one another to bring in what they believe to be true peace.
But, unbeknownst to everyone, there was another group. One that was trying their best to find a way to heal everyone. To bring back order.
You found it.... and now you are taking care of it.

A D&D Homebrew Adventure.

Last Time on the ROTA Campaign
>Our Heroes ended up became even more badass when Kinny proved he could kill all the raccoons on the lake!
>They also ended up befriending a deer named Adler and gained a new friendly slime creature which both worked as Healers.
>Then Kinny did another "What the Fuck?! Boom!" on another group of retarded raccoons.
>Mog went into an autistic fit that his moon waifu was no longer a virgin.
>The group stays longer until they find their guns because AMERICA!!
>They find the Mating Room
>They also find the Druid's Room and find several Amber rings in there, meaning she possibly isn't even an otter.
>One of the Yellow Antlered Deer arrived and Ursus went to do a long 1v1 against him, with a tiny amount of help from Kinny.
>After freezing the one deer to death, two deer who are either very punny or horny arrive and want to battle you.
Can our heroes survive the attack find out now! Possibly.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Kinny pulled out a Lightning Dagger. "I'm not taking any shanses", the cat salivated on the handle, took a step back, squinted his eyes as he aimed, and finally... tossed the dagger at the horny deer's groin. His work here was done. The sparkling blade sailed through the air and only Mog's divine protection could save this buck from getting broken.
While everyone silently observed the sharp end of fate do its thing, Kinny swiftly repositioned himself behind Mog.

I can't cast resurrection, only full blooded capital C Clerics can do that. Adler could if he was higher level, in other words. We may be able to find an NPC who can do it since we have the diamond from earlier, but they'd be ultra rare. If I was to rules lawyer this then I'd say that 5e technically actually has no critical failure rules (that I can find), only critical hit rules. Thus, technically nothing bad should happen on 1s. However, precedent would say that we've been using crit fails this entire campaign, so there's no legit reason to change things up now. Fails bad man.

"Jenkins! Ord's lost it. Get over there and do his job. Police those raccoons!" Mog managed to breathe out between the blade in his mouth.

The duel between faiths and champions was forgotten in an instant. They had gotten this far only to lose a companion for the first time in a long while. A bitter pill to swallow. Once more, with sorrow then! The dire wolf leapt forth past Ursus and Justin, leaving them to their duel and towards Johnathan, his sword arcing!

>>
>>5774390

Sorry for leaving you hanging guys, took way longer than I thought to do my part mixing the concrete. We're making some fancy steps.

To answer your question, I mostly just took it easy, took a break from questing and tried to finish reading some books instead. Aside from that I'm celebrating my mom's birthday with my family at the end of the week, and we've been discussing all getting together (extended family, spouses, friends, etc) to go on a quick vacation. The rest is kinda a blank. How about you guys?

>>5774393

>>5774447
Well Either Way, I'm happy to serve everyone here again. I hope you are all having a Blessed Day and I hope you guys are still having fun with this.
>>
>>5774452
You too QM, and yes, I am having fun, though the campaign hasn't really gotten restarted given that we are still working our way through our first turn of combat since the hiatus.

If Ursus doesn't show up within an hour then I'm fine continuing if you guys agree. We can just complete the turn (left the deer get their moves) and put Ursus on the bottom of the initiative order just for this turn. Though I will insist that if we ever get in a truly major fight like with the owlbears or ever fight an actual boss battle again that we actually wait for every single player. Both to make sure we aren't put at a disadvantage and to honour the effort everyone puts into the quest and make sure no one is left out of main story beats or big fights. A lot of the stuff where we moved on without one of us before was just minor stuff, stealthing mooks and the like.
>>
>>5774457
I'm fine with this but I prefer if Ursus was here to do his turn. I just hope he knows that we're back.
>>
>>5774465
He posted 4-5 days ago and then again about 2 days ago in the other thread, I'm sure he knows we're back. He may have just been unable to make it today. Alternatively he knows we're back in general but may have not seen this thread and only looked at the lack of activity in the other thread and assumed we delayed until next Tuesday or something. Probably just busy right now though, if I had to guess.

I'm fine with continuing, whether that be now or next Tuesday. Shame we couldn't progress further on our first day back from hiatus, but such difficulties are to be expected given that we've been gone for a while.

Hell, if we have to we could sporadically do our turns throughout the week leading up to Tuesday. Ursus could do that, so that if he is late next Tuesday we aren't all held up waiting for him before we can continue.

Happy to have to on board Kinnmeister, I think you'll find me a much stabler platform than the awkward gangly two-legged Maggie. Humans, how do they do it?

No worries. Sounds like a plan. We did discuss having player RP even on no-session days when we aren't in a scene that requires NPC interaction. Having players and the QM just respond each day when available when slower paced things are going on seems like a logical addition to that. For fights too, when we want to avoid timing issues like just discussed regarding Ursus appearing later than the rest of us.

It was one of very rare moments when the he would feel guilty for his actions... that is, if his little tin brain allowed for it. Instead, Kinny just sprung towards Potato in a desperate attempt to fix his mistake from a moment ago before it was too late. As soon as he got close, the cat pulled out one of the small vials of magical red liquid he had wrapped in cloth, tried to open it with his claws, fumbled, and had to resort to Einstein's help. As soon as the mouse managed to pop the bottle open, Kinny poured the healing potion into Potato.

Yo, I'm gonna have to apologize for holding up the group and not posting after QM went through the effort to post on Wednesday. I did actually see the posts, I was just so tired throughout the week that I couldn't find the energy to get around to making a post, even a very basic one. Then I injured my neck and fucked up my sleep schedule on the weekend, though I honestly still probably could've gotten a post out by Saturday or later, at that point it wasn't lack of energy so much as just laziness and not being in the mood to type. Really, I should've at least given you guys a heads up, especially after agreeing that we could post throughout the week. Anyways, blog post over, I'll start writing now.

The contest between the wolf and the stag over who was the strongest, noblest, most pious was rudely interrupted by Ord violently interjecting via a very crispy raccoon. Mog watched in amazement as the ungulate's face deformed in adrenaline fueled slow motion. He had all the time in the world to navel gaze, as Ord rained stunning blows with his improvised weapon, the indignity of the choice of destructive implement as much a surprise as the strikes themselves.

All the duel between chosen warriors, clash between gods and ideals seemed to boil down to in the end was this brutal struggle, the awkward thumping of heavy metal against flesh, a sobering moment. The paladin of the moon had been hyping himself up in the moments before the clash. Staving off the tiredness from the already long day of sneaking and endless fights, refocusing his wits on the worth of this battle against deranged and cruel infidels. Yes, he had to remind himself that there was a purpose to all this. Even as his eyelids drooped closed, and a stark sense of nihilism at this endless violence edged into the corners of his mind, there was a purpose to all of this, a divine purpose even, more than the simple pummelling of flesh. Still, the sooner they were done with this green cratered hell, whether through talk or scything swords, the better.

Ord wailed on the still shocked deer while Mog watched in amusement, still waxing poetic in his inner mind.

"YOU BAD ANIMAL! YOU HURT POTATO!! THAT MAKES YOU BAD!!! BAD ANIMALS GO TO HELL!!!!"

The wolf wondered what the fat cat's conception of hell was even like, he'd never asked.

He'd caught his breathe, just as Johnathan seemed to have begun to regain his wits. Time to get back to the killing. Mog rushed to flank the deer, moving opposite Ord and slashing horizontally, aiming to delimb the cloven 'paladin'.

>Move opposite Ord, flank Johnthan.
>Attack Johnathan.

>Injury.

Injury might've been a strong word. Kinda implies I had to go to the hospital or something. It's more like I have a mild to moderate persistent ache with occasional sharp pain around my neck and upper back.

As for what happened...it was just a dumb day, bad luck and stupid shenanigans the whole day. First was a 'I did a stupid and lifted and carried something in a stupid way' sort of thing, kinda hard to explain. I was handed a bag of concrete (sorta, more like my father put/draped a bag of concrete around my neck. Meaning to put it on my shoulder, I guess?) and tried to carry it somewhere a little ways away.

To explain, I was horsing around with a friend that had come over to help us, and was bent over cause my buddy had me in an awkward headlock (with his arm around my head rather than my neck) and was trying to tickle me with some ivy. My dad wanted us to get back to work and was kinda an asshole about it, which is how I ended up with a bag of concrete around my neck.

Instead of just shrugging it off and carrying it in a less stupid way I kinda just waddled awkwardly in that awkward posture to where I was supposed to go. This is stupider than it sounds (both for me and my dad) because while Mog may be a gigachad wolf, I am actually not a super strong, ultra-broad shouldered specimen of a human being. Anyways, I felt strained but I didn't really have pain at this point, just an ache.

Then a tree branch fell on literally all of us. Me, my dad, my friend, and all three of the workers with us. This was a bit later in the day. You'll remember from earlier in the year and last year when tree branches fucked up our skylight and downstairs window, right? Well, it was rainy and windy this week and there are five trees on our property. Luckily everyone (except me) seemed fine, but I was pretty sour at this point and in pain for real now, so I whined about it and went inside and that was the end of that for me.

I then slept funny and woke up in pain after having been suffering gradually decreasing pain for the entire day prior. And now here we are.

Sorry for the wait, had to make breakfast.

Maybe if you roll a 1 and want to have one of us be hit if we are in the line of fire then you can roll a second d20 to see if you actually beat our AC. The bullet/attack has to actually breach our armour even if it hits us after all. Plus, at this point Ursus and I can probably actually afford to get shot and be just fine. We have the HP, I think. Also, I forgot, did Maggie just never get stripped of her gun? I thought one of the deer we interrogated said that all our guns were stored in one of the caves we haven't been in yet, how'd Maggie get hers? Too late to ask now I guess, since she clearly has it, but may as well ask.

"Oh, shi-"

>Dex Saving Throw

So, two things. Since Justin is near the top of the initiative order, isn't it technically a new round? If so, wouldn't Ursus proc Sentinel again? Second, can I use my Protection fighting style to protect Maggie? He's throwing it at the ground and not at someone, true, but he's still technically making an attack. Normally Protection imposes disadvantage on the attack, can I instead give advantage to Maggie on her save? Also my copper shield technically attracts lightning, so I hypothetically should be absorbing all the lightning that would arc to everyone else and maybe be the only one hit. Not sure, I don't think my shield has ever actually come into play with a lightning dagger.
>>
>>5782287
>>5782295
Holy shit. And both of us are -2 on dex. The coincidences, man.
>>
>>5782294
>>5782295
>>5782287
Okay... Mog do you want to use that shield of yours? Say you throw it in another direction?
>>
>>5782301
I was hoping to absorb any lightning that would've hit Maggie. If I threw it in another direction I might throw it to far for the lightning to be attract to. Unless you're giving me a hint to throw it away lest it explode like it did when Kinny threw a dagger at the barn door that one time, in which case yes, I'll throw my shield at the deer frozen in ice.

>Maggie least of all since she couldn't see him dropping it.
>Ursus ran immediately to Maggie and dragged her away from the explosion.
>Mog knew the dangers this dagger could do very well.
>But then remembered his shield.
>Just as the dagger was about to burst, Mog threw his copper shield at the frozen deer and ran the opposite direction.
>Soon the dagger burst into a huge explosion but then turned into pure concentrated lightning.
>All of it going towards the copper shield Mog threw.
>Causing a huge light show.
>It then ended with everything going quiet.
>Everyone then looked up to see the only damage done was to Justin... and the shield.
>Still useful but burnt to a crisp.
>Still you could make up some cool war stories with that.
>With that, the battle was over.

'Your oath, Mog! Your oath!' A voice not his own thundered in his ears. He knew what he had to do to keep them all safe. A fateful toss, a flash of lightning, and it was all over. A shame about the shield, but there were always better ones, and perhaps it could be remade.

"What's the hurry Bobby? All the cultists are dead, the coast is clear. I think we can clear out the remaining caves real quick and at our leisure now. Besides, did you really get all of them? The guns, Tweed's mace, the giantslayer, Ursus's axe, all the daggers?" The wolf drawled, at ease and lazy now that the enemy was seemingly beaten.

>Advocate for quickly poking our heads into the remaining caves before skedaddling.

Kinny pulled his dagger out of the burning racoon and turned towards the ruckus just to get blinded by exploding deer. >Specifically Bobby and Adler.
"You got everything right?"
"Yeah. I made sure we got everything Jenkins."
"So you got every weapon that belonged to us?"
"The giant slayer, Tweed's Mace, the daggers..."
"The guns?! Did you get all the guns?!"
"That is a problem. We only found all the bullets. None of the guns. Those were the only things we couldn't find. Still we got our thousands of bullets an-"
"That is not going to help us Bobby! We only got one gun!!"
>The fox snapped at her.
"We need all the guns back! Otherwise everything would have been for nothing!!"
>Jenkins seemed very particularly mad about the guns.
>Jenkins then pulled his knife out to the deer.
"Do you know what the hell happened to our guns you faggot?!"
"N- no."

Jenkins' sudden aggressive behavior when potential loss of guns was mentioned got Kinny's immediate attention and even despite his temporary blindness, the cat tried to step in.
"Woah, hey there, put that" Kinny squinted "knife down, foxxy. What's gotten into you?"
I don't remember, do we have any reason to be suspicious of Jenkins as an (((ex)))-spy for the monkeys, or is it situationally impossible for him to be still working for them while lying to us? This sudden "oh shit, the GUNS are missing?!" thing is mighty sus, but my memory of details is poor.

"Just abiding by what I said I'd do." Mog mumbled as he went to fetch the burnt scrap of his shield.

Bobby's words forced his head to snap around like an owl as he turned to stare at her. "Fuck! Then this really was all for nothing! I'd say I don't feel especially bad about killing all of em knowing they not only stole from us but then sold our gear for profit to just about anyone...except we know they probably sold them to my lupine compatriots."

Mog paused to bury his head in his paws, pressing his ears flat against his head, clawing at himself in annoyance. After a few moments spend in internal agony he said "This might fuck over our relations with my kin...or maybe not. They still need our bullets for the guns to be of use, and we fight the same enemy. Kinship goes farther than desperate allyship, some people may still know me. Our impromptu slaughter of this group only weakens their bargaining power and I intended to maybe sell some of the guns to the wolves anyways. We can make this work."

Moving to dash past the two central caves he'd seen the duo go into before, he ran towards the three caves still guarded by raccoons "Quick, lets make sure we've looked everywhere before getting out of here!"

>Pick up my fried shield.
>Dash into the 3 caves still guarded by raccoons, ignore the guards. Look around.

"You're welcome Ursus. Then again I never exactly shot a deer before. My dad tried to teach me but I didn't have the guts to shoot one back then. You know... before any of you could talk."
>Maggie explained.

>Jenkins turned to the black cat.
>Still a bit pissed off about the weapons.
"We just lost a lot of silver and gold! You have to be pissed off as well right?!"

>As Jenkins blade was now away from the young deer's neck, he soon went over to where Mog headed off to.
>The three caves.
>All of them interconnected to become one huge cave.
>In there you and Adler feel a sudden chill.
>A familiar chill to Mog and Kinny.
>As you enter further, you see a singuar tube.
>Well what once was a tube.
>Looks like someone broke their way out of it if anything.
>Wait?
>Out?
>Impossible.
>As you continue to observe the empty glass, Adler went and kneeled down the empty container.
"This is where our goddess slept for a while. According to our druid."
>>
>>5784252
Because they were mindless beasts they were just existing but here the deer was actively in the wrong? I can see the logic
>>
>>5784252
"What's that have to do with your sudden stake in human weaponry?" Kinny ignored the bait.
>>5784229
>>5784252
Cat followed the rest of the group and bravely endured the cold from the human fridge.
"Goddess? Did she have a name? And Did the druid talk to her?" He asked, when Adler mentioned the tube's ex-occupant.
>>
>>5784252
Understandable, get that bread QM.

The barn. The basement. Was it nostalgia hitting him right now? Déjà vu? It didn't matter. Still, this was like where it all began, except why would one of these be here, in the middle of nowhere? Where were the mice attendants, the ancient rabbit wizards charged with protecting the grand architects of yore, the Xenarus robots?

Mog drew himself away from his thoughts. Adler was talking to him. "Uh, sorry to burst your bubble Adler...but I've seen this before. Your 'Goddess' was just an Old One, a human, like Maggie out there. This seems to confirm our theory of your druid being a shapeshifting human based off the rings we found earlier. Or at least I think that was our theory, its been a long day."

The wolf didn't know how to break it easy to the deer, so he just said it. He motioned out the entrance, indicating they ought to leave. "C'mon, I'll explain fully later. Why don't you round up the remaining raccoons? You're actually kinda a big shot around here, aren't you? Being a paladin and all that? Bring em around peaceably to our side, I'll check the remaining caverns, unless you need to come along to explain some important stuff or warn me about traps? In that case I'll wait."

Mog waited for Adler's answer.

>Either wait for Adler to gather up the raccoons we ran past, or if Adler doesn't need to infodump about the caves to the east or the cave locked by all 3 yellow deer then I'll go to the 2 caves east of me by myself.
>>

>Adler looked at all of you.
>Adler then looked at the tube.
"But.... I know I have seen them together. Our druid is an otter and she would often talk to our green goddess with brown hair. I'm sure of it. There's no ways they can be the same person... right? Not unless she knew illusion based magic. But even then they told me that was hard to use."
>The young buck tried figuring out what was going on.
>Trying his best to see that his faith in his goddess and the druid were true.
>But as that was happening...
>Maggie's eyes were wide open.
"You said she had green skin right?"
>The buck nodded his head yes.
>Maggie then took a few steps back.
"Question did she have a stone on her body?"
"Yes. It was on her right shoulder why?"
"SHIT!!!"
>Maggie then started running off.
>Jenkins and Bobby soon following her.
"WAIT! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING?!"
"Their goddess is an experiment gone wrong!!"
>Leaving the party to themselves for a bit.

>Adler looked at the human confused then towards the party.
"Your old one must not be very religious."
>He comments.
>He then responds to the wolf's request.
"I'm... actually a cleric, not a really good one either according to everyone. They expect me to weild a hammer but I can barely lift one. I'm only good at healing. That's about it really. But I do know that one area with the three shields is Kuma's room. But I think he went with the druid. But I do know he keeps his own Giant Slayer in there. At least I think it's in there."

Mog looked back and forth between the departing Maggie and Adler, confused. Where was she going? It wasn't like the human was here. It must have something to do with Xenarus or the dragons.

"Well...I don't know what that was all about. Maybe there are two humans and one is the otter? Maybe the otter-human is actually a wizard or sorcerer? Illusion magic isn't really any harder to learn than any other branch of magic if you are a wizard, at least as far as I know. I dunno. What d'you think guys?" Mog asked.

He walked in a circle, chasing his own tail, thinking. After a moment he stopped and sat down again. "Anyways, we should go after them, but first, you never answered Kinny's other question Adler. Did your Goddess have a name? Could be useful if we catch someone mentioning her name in some town somewhere, if she is a human shapeshifter then she may not be so careful as to change her name."

>Ask Adler to finish answering Kinny's question. Then go after Maggie.
>>
>>5784290

>>5784260
>>5784303
"Her name... it's Persephone."

The elderly wolf trailed off, lost in thought. He slowly padded out of the cave after Maggie.

Seeing Maggie panic and remembering that their human had no stones in her body and her skin didn't seem very... green, Kinny decided it would be wise to follow the girl and ask her more questions about this "experiment gone wrong". It was also more likely that she knew what could be dangerous in regards to the human technology and was currently proceeding in the opposite direction.
"I don't like this, we should ask Maggie just what the hell she knows that we don't.

"FUCKING HELL!!"
>As she continued to swear it was easy to notice how much she was rushing this.
"WHERE THE FUCK ARE THOSE STAIRS?!"
"Listen kid, we exactly don't know what's going on, mind explaining?"
>Bobby asked as she saw the old one constantly fail.
"That bitch of a goddess they worship has Nihm running in her system!! For all we know, that cunt might be using her powers she got from that stone to convince people she's a god! But really she's a psychotic bit- HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO FIND STAIRS BEHIND THIS WATERFALL!?"

Seemingly having found the stairs, Kinny hopped on Maggie's shoulder and pointed her in the right direction. Once thr human was successfully instructed, the cat decided to question her a bit more.
"So you're saying she can... use magic? What's with the chip rock in her shoulder?"
>>
>>5784334
"Maggie, you don't even know where this 'Persephone' even is in Canis Lupin! Don't just go wandering off! Clearly you know more about Nihm than you've explained so far to us. Mind cluing us in first?" Mog shouted after her, having caught up late with the rest of the pack.

He looked around for Ord and Potato. "Hey! Ord, Potato. Go into Kuma's room and fetch the bear's Giant Slayer if it is in there. If it isn't then fetch anything that looks useful from it, we don't wanna leave these guys any junk they can use to come after us with. Check the other two caves too, the one above those two as well, tell us what was in them. Looks like Maggie wants to leave in a hurry and frankly I don't blame her."

>She knew she owed them an explanation.
>So she sat down for a bit still a bit soaking wet as all the animals gathered around her.
"It was a few years before the war. My aunt worked with Dr Farris, Dr Nicklas, and a Draconian scientist named Ozwald. They were working with a new substance, it was made of solid stone and kept in an lead case. Even the Draconians didn't know what it was. So we we all called it Nihm. They were all trying to figure out what Nihm technically was and could do. So they decided to experiment with it. The first thing they tried was to see if it had harmful effects on living creature. The first thing they did was test it on mice and rats. The stone was placed in a container full of them. They left it with them overnight. When they came back they were surprised to see the size of the rodents have doubled and they began speaking to each other as if they were people. But one rat gave them a huge surprise when it spoke out to the scientists asking for something sugary. He was then given the name Lazlo. So it was then theorized by Ozwald that the stone might be something that could help bring sentience to creatures that had none. Possibly help them evolve. My aunt, Ozwald, and Dr Farris all tried this out with multiple animals. Starting with rabbits, then dogs, then cats, among other animals. Some of them were exposed to the stone, while others would have them surgically embedded into them. But there was another experiment that happened. One that General Harvey oversaw. He and Dr Nicklas wanted to see if the stone could help humans evolve. So Dr Nicklas decided to surgically embed the stones onto twelve humans. Those twelve humans began to mutate and gained powers we did not expect any human could have. But... something went wrong. They all became corrupted. They all went on a rampage and started to attack anyone they saw as weak. Claiming to be gods. The general was able to sedate all of them with knockout gas then decided to cryogenically freeze them so they would never be found again. But now that we know that one of them are free... fuck who knows what the hell they are going to do to us."

>>
>>5784368
"Dangerous enough to keep this place safe from the apes. We should be careful. Still, nothing suggest that this Persephone is worthy of worship. Not from her moral behaviour, nor her implied power. If she feels the need to disguise herself as one of us then she clearly fears for her life and doesn't feel she can openly contest the three factions. At least if she is indeed the otter." Mog opined.

>>5784370
"Oh, great. Find anything else you two?" Mog noted the two returning cats, second Giant Slayer in tow. He wondered why Kuma had left without it, maybe it was ill suited for normal opponents. Maybe it was too much weight for a long journey. Or maybe...maybe Kuma took a liking to the guns they'd stolen from the pack, then traded up for a better weapon. A scary thought.

Next time we should just knock down the people we actually intend to fight instead of going around fighting the enemy of our enemy."

>I'm ready to move on to the next area and get out of this forest if everyone else is.

I know we are eager to be done with this area. But I'm fine with checking out the last few caves for lore or loot, but I assume the remaining rooms are just rooms for the other cult leaders. We accounted for food, healing and water already for the cult's essential needs. So I think we can go since we got all of our shit back. I do have criticisms about this "area/level" so to speak, but I'll save them for another day.

Bobby and Jenkins found all our stuff, including the bullets, but not the guns. I assume that the cult took them to negotiate with the wolves of Canis Lupin. They probably left the bullets so that the wolves wouldn't backstab them and just take the guns, can't use them if they don't have bullets after all. See >>5784022

>>5784363
QM, can we either assume Potato and Ord were diligent and searched each of the remaining caves carefully like I'd asked or just straight up speed run through each of the remaining caves and have you give us a run through what we find without and big pauses for lore drops or discussions? We can always talk about any lore stuff afterwards on the exit out anyways. I think the whole lot of us are pretty tired of this area.
>>
>>5784393

Hell naw, if anything, those dumps provide precious story hooks and reasons for us to stay interested. Best plot hooks come during spooktober confirmed?? Cat just needs sleep so much that he started to talk of himself from third person's perspective and can't think of things that need to be done in our current location... besides removing ourselves from it asap due to potential threat of greenskin returning and turning us into a sentient oxygen factory.

Nah, I enjoyed it actually. I just think we all want to leave this place, we've been here forever. Kinda ran into that issue of a new area being fresh and interesting when we first started it but then we always end up dragging our feet trying to leave with all our loot/stolen gear like with the Xenarus Bunker. There were other issues with this area, but I'll save the criticisms for another day, I don't have the energy to write about all of them now.

Good night, sleep well.

I didn't have too much trouble keeping track, but I think QM should've kept the coloured dots above each place after we unlocked it. He also should've had a map legend for each of the coloured dots as we discovered what each place was. To indicate it was unlocked he could add a second dot or mark somewhere beside or above the cave, or put a small blob of colour inside a dot to make a 2 coloured dot. T'was a bit of annoying but not impossible to keep track otherwise, had to go back to older updates to check where we'd been already and which place we'd unlocked recently but hadn't yet checked out.

>As you all exit the crater you find yourselves in a new area no longer in the forest.
>Just a few miles away from a town.
>One that looked recently built really.
>As you exit from the Waterfall stairs you can see a sign saying that this area was an attraction.
>An abandoned museum town of where the first dragon was slayed by the mammal kingdom.
>It was simply known as, "Garden of Eden"
>Though the picture depicting the act was not really favorable, since it showed the apes doing the most work.
>When it was ultimately clear that it took all leaders, well known as the Knights back then, to kill the ferocious beast.
>But then again history is different for everyone on who made the killing blow.
>One thing was for sure was that the rabbit was said to have died as she put her whole soul to make a powerful barrier to help her comrades survive.
>That's the only thing that is clear about the story that every nation gets right.
>Maggie looked upon the drawing.
>Unsure of what to make of it.
"So... is this the sacred ground you mentioned?"

"Doesn't look Canadian to me. But still."

Kinny purred from relief when he realized they've ended up relatively close to a town. He sure didn't expect the crazy forest freaks to have set up camp so close to civilization and expected they'd have to go through forest to get away from them.

Once the group arrived at the town, Kinny started scanning the are for signs of the forest animals' compatriots, even if the chances of them being in an ape-favoring town were low.
>rolling perception to make sure no loinclothed tree-humpers are nearby.

Once that was done, the rogue joined everyone else in mindlessly staring at the mural before realizing the propaganda at display. "Ape paws drew this, clearly. Everyone where I come from knows a cat killed the dragon when it was weakened by those thick-skulled monkeys." Kinny gave his 5 cents. "See that black, cat-shaped shadow in the back? That's the feline assassin-turned-politician, Hugo Bilingford! He stabbed the dragon in the neck. Jealous animals say that he was in it only for treasure..."
I hope this isn't complete cringe.

Kinny looked at Maggie with pity. "He's using the wing to get onto his neck, duh. These propagandist fucks would never dare to portray anything BUT an ape as getting the killing blow." The cat stopped to look at the mural again. "You know, I'm not much of a fighter, but I need to get better daggers, these fiery toys might be hot, but I doubt they could go through butter after testing them on a racoon..."
>So what was this Hugo like
The cat coughed, which sounded more like he was ready to fire a furball. "Well, I'm not much of a historian and Bilingford lived quite some time ago, so I can only give you the general idea. Cats say that he rose through the ranks of one of the cat clans active back then and established himself as a very skilled assassin." Kinny layed down and started grooming his paws as he continued talking. "Eawned money thwough his 'wowk' and eventually was able to put most of the clans' leaders into diwt." The cat spat the fur out. "Either by himself or by paying the right people - and taking over. Gathering cats under his guidance and unifying them, so to speak. It was in his late years and he more or less retired after that, taking the role of a cat leader and strengthening our position in the world." Kinny finished his tale and stood up. "But you know how it is, apes know their version of the story, wolves, bears and deers have another and animals like Simon probably never even heard about him."
>>5790193
>>5790214
Kinny's ears perked up at the mention of Majorus and her role in the fight. "Yeah see, this is one story I've heard once or twice myself and can believe." The cat told Maggie. "Not this nonsense with apes clubbing the dragon and winning like it's the dark times."

"The apes truly have no sense of equity, not an honest bone in their bodies, at least not these new bloods. I'm sure their ancestors look down on them with disappointment. This town should've had a monument to every Knight, a history for every telling of the story. Not this cynical ape worship that is only exists because the knuckle draggers happen to be on top at this moment in time" Mog said in disgust.

When he'd gathered himself he walked the boardwalk, taking in the lake air. At least the apes didn't spoil the natural beauty of this place. Refreshed, Mog turned back to answer his charge. "My history is poor, so I can only recount the basics. I know there were two great wolf leaders that participated in this battle. Headstrong prince Calumn, loose adherent of the red god, Mars. And exiled priestess of the Twinned Goddesses, Vitilia. From what I recall, Vitilia is said to have played a more supportive role, healing the other Knights, and binding the great wyrm's wings with magic so that it could not take flight and reign hellfire down upon us mammals. Calumn is who wolf historians remember as landing the killing blow. Depending on who you ask, the killing blow was either a mighty blow to the liver, or exsanguination when Calumn leapt up and slashed the wyrm's throat" he recounted. The elder paused to work his jaws and swallow, even this short story would be a mouthful.

Having worked out the soreness in his jaw, he continued "I've heard the apes say they landed the killing blow to the heart, and that they contest the throat slash, saying that it was too high for even the obscenely gifted Calumn to leap and that examination of both wounds after the battle revealed both blows to have been too shallow owing to the ergonomics of how we wolves have to hold our weapons, makes us poor at stabbing apparently. Both our species agree that that both strikes did occur though, I've heard wolves familiar with history say that we actually did land the death blow and that the dragon died from shock and blood loss from those wounds but that the apes mistook their hero's strike for the fatal blow because it was the one that actually incapacitated the beast and ended the fight, they apparently missed the actual heart though."

Shrugging, he walked up to the mural, putting his paw on the paint, traced the outlines of the sacred heroes. "As for what happened afterwards? Vitilia resumed her exile in pilgrimage, and Calumn overthrew his father for the throne. The guy turned out to be a real tyrant, the ancient Emperor Clayton of his day. Eventually Vitilia returned from her exile at the behest of the clans, bringing with her southern bureaucracy,-

-the ideas of popular assembly and senate. Together with the clans and a sizable bear expatriate community - later a notable minority in Canis Lupin society, among others - she overthrew Calumn and his followers, preserving his role in history, good and bad and bringing the current-ish system of Canis Lupin into being. We don't mention the Goddesses names out loud usually, except in sacred groves, private spaces, or unfortunately, in vain, but given the nature of this place I can say she also brought the worship of Luna and Gaia into primacy among lupine kind. There were changes since then of course, much of which I was alive for but too young to participate in or be aware of. Then, more recently, there was the Faction Wars and the diminishing of our nation, and the reintegration of Calumn's descendants and company, Mars priests too. I was in the south as a stay-behind element against the Factions at the time, so I'm not super up to date on how that all went other than I know that there was some tension and problems that still linger today but the nation stayed the course for the most part, it wasn't quite the Great Schism between Mars and the Goddesses of yore."

A now out-of-breathe Mog let go of the mural and turned around to rejoin the gathering and hear their thoughts and the back and forth talk of long gone leaders.

Okay, my bad. So it turned out to be like 4000ish words, but at least it wasn't 6000. Sorry.

"Happy to help Ursus. I'm glad someone is getting use out of my old age, at least." Mog replied happily, tongue lolling out as he went down by the lakeside to lap up water for his parched throat. May as well refill their water skins as well. Again refreshed, he returned to listen to Maggie's answer. Though he was confused on how Ursus expected her to know of animal history occurring long after she went on ice. Maybe popsicles had good ears, plugged into the antediluvian instruments of Old One infrastructure perhaps. Or maybe he just meant the stories of how the humans fought the 'Draconians' in their day. Some old war stories from an ancient and advanced people against the ultimate evil was always a good time, it transcended boundaries it seemed, as even back in Maggie's day it seemed the lizard's 'elders' were up to no good.

"Most of the legends I know of people taking down dragons are kind of made up and not even from this new age. They all pale in comparison to what you have told me. Still, even if it was true and we were still alive... er awake during that time, we probably would have been in the bunker or cryogenically frozen, not out here fighting the dragon. Besides, we'd probably be useless if the dragon was that size."
>She said as she point to the mural.
>Specifically the giant beast within it.
"A good chunk of us would probably die before we even got close to the thing since they hate us the most. We were at a stalemate already with the war we were going through back in our day. Neither side was winning and both people were dying."
>>
>>5790325
"Not once. I don't have the talent with philosophy or patience to read through hundreds of old books needed to do a good job. I just say things that could be said in a few sentences and spread it over a whole speech. Brevity was never my strong suit, that, and where history is concerned there is just a lot that needs to be said if you want all the nuances." Mog retorted once he'd finished gulped down more air.

Padding over to obnoxiously ruffle Kinny's fur, he added on "Listen to a real priest or wise wolf one day, they'll talk your ear off. Show you that I'm a blushing shy doormat in comparison. Just 'cause I have the awareness to qualify my statements and temper my beliefs in the greatness of our people, doesn't mean I know shit. Wouldn't fit in with the crowd, I just hit things, and say prayers for the things I hit after they break. Never even went to school, didn't know it was a thing for half my life. M'just old, that's all, you pick up things when you live a long time and listen to the right people."
>>
>>5790341
Don’t discount yourself and your people after all by the fact we even exist should act as a testament you what you said is wrong you held an entire race of these things at stalemate and we have only fought to my knowledge the dregs of that conflict, besides if these Draconians have the capability of traversing stars what makes you think they weren’t on earth before all legends hold truth within them
>>
>>5790349
You carry with you weaponry that can smite real monsters from afar, so what if you don’t have claws, a think hide or sharp teeth? You carry Witt, training, knowledge, and wisdom that are just as powerful if not more so than the dragon those legends faced
>>
>>5790341
Mog's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Modesty doesn't suit one who has passed through the ages like you, Maggie. That your people fought the dragons in their prime at all and stalemated them is impressive enough, I imagine your war is why there are so few of them left in our time. You're so strong even as a...child...adolescent...almost adult, whatever, it is hard to imagine your people fairing worse than us at facing the old demons, especially with your technology. Even today, we walk in your paw prints. We're still trying to learn how to make stuff from your civilization work, with very few advancements over what your people already knew, if any at all. Though I suppose we do have the might of magic and faith on our side, so maybe it evens out."

Then he turned to the group "Kinny already gave this place a once over, I think the coast is clear. We have no need for scraps of gold, but we may as well quickly poke our heads through the town in case there are apes around, we have to move down the boardwalk anyways. Lets get up high, get a lay of the land. See where we're going, we need to find a town, make sure we are in the territory of Canis Lupin proper and not an ape training ground. Once we take stock of our surroundings, we'll set up camp for the night first. We need to sleep, regain our strength before we move on."

>Keep an eye out for people as we move through town.

"Cat is not lazy. Cat is conservative about energy." Kinny didn't even pretend he was above taking the offered pity-ride as he immediately hopped on Maggie's shoulder, kneaded her to his liking, put his tail around her neck and began plotting. "Since this is a museum town... do you think they've got weapons in here? My daggers are useless in combat with exception of throwing them as explosives."

Ah, when I said 'get a lay of the land' I more meant the terrain around the town and on the way out of the town towards the next settlement, or to look for signs of a road or path if there is one. Or is it just all forest surrounding the town?

"Hmm, seems clear. But you might be right. Isn't odd that a major monument, the site of the first dragon slaying, and a perfectly functional town situated by a clean body of water is apparently entirely abandoned? Maybe we aren't really alone. Or maybe this place was razed by disease. It could just be that the cultists used to live here though, before going crazy and running off to live in caves and sick owlbears on innocent travellers." Mog mused aloud.

He motioned for the group to pause and move off to the side of the hill shielded by trees. "Lets set up camp, I don't know about you but I need to rest and pray. If we are in danger then I'll need my spells. Keep an eye out though, we'll need to take shift doing watch. This town may not be as safe as it appears."

>>5790447
"Huh, I guess cat-priests and wolf-priests aren't so dissimilar after all." Mog snorted.

Listening to Kinny's meowing Mog rolled his eyes. "Don't get the wrong idea. I don't care about the sanctity of some monkey's false history, I just don't want to spend forever looting whatever scraps the apes left behind when they presumably cleared out of this place with all their belongings in tow. When I said I wanted to find out if we are close to being in wolf territory, I didn't mean I mistook this place for a wolf-town and wanted confirmation that this place was one, I know we're still in ape land. I just mean we need to find a nearby settlement to confirm if we've crossed the border. This town aside, we're practically in the wilderness still."

Realising he might be confusing what Kinny was interjecting about he then added "Oh, you just thought I was gonna be upset about looting the apes heirloom weapons or something, that's what you were talking about, right? Well, my answer is the same, I don't care, I know they're our enemies, take what you want, just don't overburden yourself with loot."

"You were born into the cult? How long have your forest guardians been around then?" Mog asked, ignoring the talk of immortal deer kings. He had no inkling to whether such talk was true or false. Things like that weren't impossible if the deer king was a powerful cleric or druid, but Mog knew little of such lofty heights or the inner workings of deer society.

When Jenkins reminded him of the obvious Mog glanced to the side, bashful.

"Makes sense, I just thought you might've been from some city-state or southern principality that didn't recognize the regnal authority of a king over all related species. Seeing as you're young and were working for Clayton as a scout, I figured your hometown was conquered recently, and you conscripted as an auxiliary. My bad." he muttered back.

Now turning to Maggie he said "Yeah, sure, if Kinny is up to it. You might wanna test each ring here first though, make certain what you'll be transforming into and all that. Wait...on second thought, better not test them, if they are like the other one then they are probably single use until recharged in moonlight. Just transform in eyesight of one of us, wouldn't want one of you turning into a fish and choking on air or something stupid. Just be careful."

Okay, we'll see how things play out. It looks like we're having a downtime session mostly anyways. So you won't be missing much anyways. Not to mention we usually stop an hour or two from now anyways.

"You said these things charge during via moon light right?"
>Maggie asks so let's just have half of them charge tonight and see if the other half works. Though.... based off what we see? I thought it was based on what we thought?"
>The human was confused about this.

>>5790504
>She then heard Ursus' comment.
"Hey Ursus you're thinking about being a human right?"

>>
>>5790543
Joke's on you, "downtime" sessions alongside the exploration sessions are kino. Unless spent on mindless logistics, that is.
>>5790550
"Alright, well, I'm up for transformation experiments just for my own amusement." Kinny offered his skin bravely and selflessly. "As long as we're sure that these are indeed *temporary* transformation rings." The cat added and then turned to Adler. "You wouldn't know which one does what, would you?"
>>
>>5790550
"If they are like the one I received from Elder Swift, then yes." Mog clarified, before turning confused at what she said next.

"Sure, charging half overnight works, not sure what you mean about seeing or thinking though. The rings work off thought, I think. But, I think you have to know what the thing you want to transform into looks like." The wolf said slowly, unsure of what caused the confusion.

He settled down by the fire that Jenkins had just finished constructing. Tents could wait, they had trees to shield them from the elements anyways.

"I'm gonna sleep first while the...two - or three of you, I guess, since Ursus sounds like he is also going...yes, while the three of you scout. I need my spells back, I can take last watch after I get up. The cats sound like they've got first watch, so just be back in time for the second and third watches, else Jenkins or the cats will have to stay up longer." Mog concluded.

Imagine how unifying to have a diplomat able to feel and understand each and ever factions view point and perspective and if used as a weapon.. well a mouse that transforms into a bear or a big lizard on demand would be also terrifying. of course the ring is probably still limited but ya know

True, some of the best stuff happened during those sessions. Though I also liked our first few sessions during the first thread, back when we were doing challenges that (at least initially) relied on our planning and cunning rather than simple combat. Though we ended up having to fight our way out anyways.
>>
>>5790570
"Depends on whether they are true polymorph rings. I think there are spells to change your appearance but they have to work with your body's mass and can only add or remove a few inches from your height. Polymorph could even let a mouse transform into an elephant though, at least I think."

For sure. The moments when we the players have the initiative (not the mechanic) are great. In general in DnD and TTRPG, I think players favour those moments rather than dungeon crawling, moving through a set story or being constantly forced into dilemmas or having plans countered willy nilly by DMs that don't want their players off the rails. Yeah, I haven't finished my level up aside from adjusting my HP and a couple other things I think. Still haven't redone my inventory to account for everything that got shifted around, was adjusting because I thought we'd have lost some stuff to the cult and wouldn't be getting it back, but now we did. And yeah, was a good use of the spell.

Kinny pulled the pin on his chest-strap, resulting in the whole harness sliding off of him, backpack included. The cat quickly made sure Einstein didn't get banged up by the sudden surge of gravity and then looked at the ring curiously before raising an eyebrow. "Actually, how the hell am I supposed to squeeze this thing on my paw? Isn't there a bigger version..? Wait, no! I've got it!" The cat grabbed the ring with his mouth, rolled into a ball and slipped the thing onto his tail, where fur somewhat prevented it from falling off. "This should do it." He then remembered he was supposed to think of an animal to turn into, so naturally his mind wondered towards... a tiger.

I feel just as strong althoughy muscle mass has become distributed in a more human way I guess. > kinny since you just shifted in mass I would like to have your perspective?
>Do you feel stronger?

>>
>>5790647
Kinny growled, which was just his way of testing his vocal chords to prevent himself from embarassing himself. "Now this... is power." The tiger looked at his striped paws curiously. For the first time in his life his fur wasn't black, which increased his visibility, but... he was a tiger. He FELT much stronger now. A loud purr escaped Kinny's body, which sounded like one of the old one's low-sound speakers. Finally, he sat his tiger-butt down and turned towards Maggie. "Have you never heard of tigers before?" Kinny was confused at first, but then he realized that the human was startled by his presence. "Oh, not to worry, I don't intend on trying to climb on your shoulder like this." He eyed the girl. "Under this form, I'm afraid you could break."
Kinny then rolled over to his side and stretched like a housecat.
>>5790656
"Yes, actually this body feels... a hundred times stronger, or so." The former cat pawed the dirt to see how much effect it would have and was amused to see his claws cut through ground like through butter, which forced another happy purr from Kinny. "Senses are mostly the same, but I feel like..." The tiger lowered his voice and rolled back onto his stomach "hunting mice like this could would be boring. Don't tell the deer."

I think I'll disappear soon, battery dying. I'll respond to any posts concerning Kinny during the week. Can someone tell me how long do these rings last, again?

Kinny wasn't concerned about the transformation's details, as far as he knew, he was in a tiger body now. Plain and simple. He wasn't going to turn Ursus down however, there wasn't much else to do and besides, clawing things with his paws was a cat's (or tiger's) bread and butter. "Uh, sure thing." There was one thing the transformed Kinny couldn't not point out to transformed Ursus, however. "Why don't you just test your own strength and reflexes? You've changed as well and I don't imagine our rings work differently.."
>>5790641
>>5790647
Before trying to scratch Ursus' target, Kinny picked up his harness and backpack and wrapped them around his right shoulder, before putting his big wet nose inside the pack and pulling out one of the cat food cans. The tiger popped the lid open with his massive teeth and lifted the can, making the meat inside fall right into his maw. "The cat must eat." He explained as he discarded the empty can.
>>5790691
>>5790690
Well, if I'm going to attack Ursus' target as a tiger, I'll need Tiger race stats. Also, do claws (tiger claws specifically) count as weapons? In 5E Tabaxi have optional damage modifier when using their claws for melee. What would be the damage modifier for tiger claws?
Wait, did you mean tuesday or thursday?

I shall try my best not to punch tree so hard, that Mog wakes up.
>>
We all good for tomorrow's session?

>>5795567

>>
>>5797755
Yup
>>
I hope QM takes a look at my punch before we continue. The claws', as well as other natural weapons' (like Mog's teeth) viability for unarmed attacks should be clarified imo.
Like, Kinny might not have much strength, but tiger claws should deal a considerable amount of damage regardless of that, based on their sharpness.
>>
>>5797981
I think it was specified some time before that we don't get Natural Weapons like the animal stat blocks from the bestiary. However Polymorph or Animal Shape is different from illusion or appearance or body altering magic, you should get the actual default stats of a tiger if the rings are true polymorph rings.
>>
>>5797986
*sigh* It sits wrong with me, but alright.
I did ask about tiger stats as well.
What's thee.. how do you roll for unarmed attack's damage again? I know there are some perks for it and not sure how they affect/unaffect me.
>>
>>5797990
It's just a normal attack, except the damage is always 1+STR unless you are monk.

If you have Natural Weapons then the damage is usually pretty mediocre in all editions even for dragon claws, somewhere in the ballpark of d4s, sometimes larger iirc. The dangerous part of animals and NWs is that they almost always get multi-attack. So an attack for each front claw, plus usually a bite attack that has a chance to automatically grapple an opponent if the user succeeds on a roll of some kind like STR. Sometimes you can get more than just the 2 or 3 multi-attacks, either from additional limbs or just better multi-attack from being fast or something, at least if I remember right.

>>5797990
Here's the tiger statblock for 5e. It is actually pretty formidable now that I look at it. Guess I was mostly remembering from 2e, where ancient dragons could get casually tanked in melee by any decently specced fighter. You keep your mental stats as normal for Polymorph and Wildshape, I think. So you get the best of both worlds, the physical stats of the morphed thing and your own character's brains.
>>
>>5798014
Are we using 5E animal stats, though..?
>>
>>5798019
Like I said, I don't think so. QM mentioned such before, I think. Though if we all agree that we want some composite of his PC animals and the 5e stat blocks then QM would basically be forced to agree. The "DM is God" interpretation of rule 0 is basically bullshit, if all your players want something then you basically have to adapt or you don't have a game.

Personally I think have natural weapons and some of the traits from the book would make an interesting addition to what QM has already done. The problem I foresee is balance. Wolves, bears, tigers, etc all have different bite and claw damages, average HP pools, traits, stats and so on. Not to mention the advantage dangerous carnivores would have over creatures like rabbits, cats and dogs. So, while I think it is interesting and not TOO unbalanced since this is a society of intelligent animals with weapons, it notably gives an even larger advantage to larger creatures with claws and makes a lot of weapon classifications redundant or useless. Like, why ever use a normal shortsword or smaller if you are a wolf or a bear and not a cat when you have your claws?

Again, this isn't too bad if we do the following. Keep the humanoid player-esque HP generation the same for all animals regardless of whether they are NPCs or PCs, wildshape or polymorph can either give the by the book 5e HP pool or just be the player's normal HP. Maybe standardize claw and bite damage, though this isn't too big a deal. I was gonna make a bigger deal out of it because I remembered wolves and some other creatures being lower CR than bears and tigers, thus breaking both my character and the setting but wolves just have lower stats and their NWs are worse than bears and tiger by a bit. Not as bad as I thought, but still bad. Keep normal humanoid-esque stat gen plus Rise of the Awakened houseruled bonus traits and stat modifiers instead of 5e statblocks, make new stat mods for 'races' that don't exist in the rules yet.

I'm gonna cut myself off here, I'm going too long. The point is keep NPC and PCs mostly like humans except give us NWs and perception/stealth bonuses on top of what we already have, plus give us all 40 speed and just make rabbits even faster since they are supposed to be the 'fast' 'race'. Multi-attack is maybe too much. While it'd be a nerf to remove the pounce/multi-attack/pack tactics stuff, it is just too strong. Imagine practically any level 1 or low level fight between NPCs or us at level 1 at the start of the qst. Fights would be like rocket-tag even more than they already are at low levels, we'd be one-turning each other constantly, plus it makes the whole conceit of the setting with animals running around with swords and sorcery redundant, since claws are better than most stuff that animals get until like...level 4 or 5.

That should hopefully calm our autism.

Remember, back in the first thread I said I was going for a grittier character that just happened to be a paladin, to justify why my character was okay with mercenary work that involved killing random people. You said something in agreement about originally intending to roll a monk as a character but not wanting that goody two shoes 'grew up in a monastery' shit or something. As for in character justification, remember, Mog just randomly got his powers one day in a desperate bout of prayer. Even though he'd always been a devotee of his Goddess(es), he had no formal religious education, just the words of his military unit's chaplain and life experience. Hence 0 Religion skill.

lol. That's for the AO3-only section of the quest. The rare hypothetical lurking degens can handle that bit.

The overgrown housecat said and started jogging to get the bird and himself used to the pace first, before breaking into a run once he was sure the bird wouldn't just fall off his back.

Ah, to clarify, I'm sleep now and doing my watch last, not taking my sleep during last watch. So, I'd sleep 8 hours, then take the last watch. The NPC cats would take first watch like I said, then switch and so on. It all works out, but our rest/watch cycle takes 10 total hours. From what I remember anyways, this is just how normal dnd watches are done. Depending on the watch structure those without spell slots break up their sleep, sleeping while those with spell slots or others take their watch, then are forced awake for their watches, so they get full rest but it is fragmented. Spell users need unbroken sleep, mostly. At least that is the usual caveat DMs put, haven't checked recently if that is actually in the rules in 5e. Or sometimes depending on the numbers/numbers of spellcasters and watch structure groups just do straight rotations without the fragmented sleep.

Confused, sleep deprived exposition aside, tl;dr is I'm still sleeping, and if you aren't taking an early watch for an NPC then you and Adler ought to get to sleeping soon too since you can't break up your sleep.

There's enough NPCs plus Ursus who don't need unbroken sleep around to make watches not as complicated as I just made it seem.

>>
>>5798993
Nigga, I need my 8 hours of beauty sleep too, I want that first watch.
I have also planned to make circles around the camp
>>5798995
"Sure, you can land!" Kinny yelled back to the bird as he was pacing towards the camp and Ursus. He wouldn't mind Maggie flying overhead, but screaming at night would draw attention, so it was safer if she got back on his back and he 'drove' her back to camp. Once the hawkgirl landed, he continued talking. "Maybe you didn't get used to these eyes just yet? I don't know how the magic of this spell works, but... you do have smaller eyes now, so maybe some adjustment is needed?"
>>5799000
>>5798986
Once the two approached whistling Ursus, Kinny decided to tell them about the plan for the night. "I was thinking of taking the first watch, honestly. The use of magic earlier has got me tired and I would like to get solid 8 hours myself, like Mog does. As long as I'm up in this body nothing should bad should happen so you guys" - the tiger looked at the small cats and fox - "can sleep now." Kinny then turned to the bird. "But Maggie, I was hoping you could stay with me and search the area for any possible problems, that way we could deal with them early and let others have easier job on their watch."
>And you're a tiger. Why doesn't it surprise me you wanted to be a bit bigger?"
"What's the matter? I thought you like your cats big." The tiger responded with sarcasm as he pointed to Ord and Potato with his nose.
Haha, quick merge. Great minds think alike.

...? I'm not taking first watch. Or if you mean you want to do it instead of the cats, there's no need to worry. We have Maggie, Ursus, Jenkins, Einstein, and the NPC cats to take watches and who don't need spell slot refreshment. You don't need to take a watch. Also, I just checked, we only need 6 hours of sleep technically since we are allowed to take a 2 hour max watch as part of Long Rest as part of the 8 hour rest. This also means even spell casters are allowed to break up their sleep and still get their spell slots. I was wrong and thinking of older editions which weren't so convenient about this and wanted you to sweat and think about this carefully.

Also, circles? You mean the alarm spell?
>>
>>5799007
Missed this. Doesn't matter though. See >>5799016 we don't need 8 hours, only 6 with a 2 hour watch as part of that, as long as that 'watch' isn't strenuous. Meaning no spellcasting, or fighting.

Ah, okay. Usually patrol routes are glossed over, since watches and Long Rests are skipped over entirely unless character moments or other RP needs to happen or the campaign is a military themed campaign. Unless you mean drawing lines in the dirt and seeing in the morning if the lines were broken? Anyways, the minutiae of watches/patrolling is almost universally skipped over once the standard procedure for any particular party has been established previously, unless something drastically changes like the party has too many spellcasters/unconscious party members to keep normal watches or something. Or if something actually approaches camp during a watch, obviously. I guess we are not scouting town during the rest, I assume we'll do that all together once the whole party is rested?

True. Best take in the town when we have the best chance to succeed, and when we have everyone together right away in case we run into trouble. I just thought we were gonna do initial scouting while some of us slept, to give us a starting picture of what we were walking into given that QM does horror really well and he was pretty ominous when we rolled perception checks earlier yet came up clear. Kinny opened his eyes and let the harsh morning light hit his eyes. He was no longer a tiger. The horror. The horror of being robbed of such greatness. Majesty. Power. None of you will be able to comprehend how horrific this moment is to me. The cat suppressed his intrusive internal monologue and rolled up onto this belly. He pulled the jumpsuit back on, pulled out his waterskin and took a swig. As much as he could, anyway. He tucked the waterskin back inside his backpack and began inspecting it religiously to make sure everything was roughly in its designated place after he had swung it over his tiger-shoulder last night. Finally, he acknowledged the presence of everyone else. "Good morning. Is everyone still in one piece?" Kinny looked at his fully-black paw with resignation. Back to this frail self. At least he's the best dagger-weilder in around this fireplace still. The cat coped. Lastly, he pulled the ring off his tail, almost as an afterthought.

The pleasant sound of companionable conversation brought awareness to Mog's mind. Dappled sun beams filtered through the tree tops, the fresh lake air rustled softly through the gaps in the trees, no sounds of danger accompanied the morning's greetings outside. Kinny patiently waited as hisonboard mouse took out another item he had no idea existed. He got used to this happening by now and didn't question Einstein's ability to hide many different items on his tiny person. "What in the what?" The cat was confused by what this map was supposed to portray and once the mouse was done drawing and explaining, he summed it up with simple "Thanks, you have a damn good memory" and beelined it for Maggie.
"Hey, hey, take a look at thish" Kinny waved the paper at the girl, assuming she'd be the one to know the most about the marked spots. "Einstein says there are more frozen humans in these places he marked."
>>5799100
"Good morning to you too. I was a tiger... for a while." The cat responded as he looked into the distance. He slowly raised his paw and looked at it like it held the answers to all of the universe's questions. "If there's anything I want to learn to use this magic... stuff for" - Kinny bared his claws, narrowed his orange eyes and made the magic paw appear in front of him for a brief moment before waving it away and looking at Mog - "it's turning into a tiger again. Silly, I know, we have the rings after all." The cat flipped the discharged ring with his tail. "But it has it's energy, can get lost. Using magic just seems more handy."

"A tiger, huh? Would've liked to see that. A ferocious Kinny, instead of your usual aloof self," Mog teased easily, the ribbing flowing easily from the long years they'd know each other, before asking, "what'd the others turn into?"

Following the cat's gaze into the distance, the wolf let the silence hang. Kinny would answer in his own time, right now Mog could tell he was thinking and had something to say.

After some artful paw gazing Kinny shared his newfound dream. A new hope for the paradigm shift that was discovering his latent magical talent. Giving Kinny's words time to settle, the wolf mulled it over. In time, he answered "All things can get lost, even intrinsic abilities. When you're past my age you'll probably forget your spell once you get senile, same as I will in a few years. The rings are both plentiful and more than good enough. But, if you're serious, then know that it'll be a very long road ahead of you. Wizards take years of study to learn the fourth circle of magic, most never even reach it. People with split proficiencies who didn't grow up learning magic or split their attentions between the martial and magical professions or other things often have less than half the potential of true wielders of the arcane. I'm not a magical expert, but I've been around a long time and known plenty of eldritch knights in various armies, their synergy enables unique capabilities but ultimately they are lesser magic users. I think your dream is at the very end of your journey, if you still wish to chase it."

He left it at that, knowing Kinny would probably chase that dream anyways. They all had to work towards something.

Polymorph is 4th level spell, and you don't get 4th level spells until level 19 or 20 I think, since you're an arcane trickster and not a full wizard. A nice bookends to your dream, but not something that'll come up during play a lot during this campaign unless we continue this campaign for many, many years. Also, I was wrong about you keep your mental stats, I checked and in 5e you switch all your stats, not just physical ones. Your gear also melds into your new body, so you don't have to worry about taking it off or losing it/it slipping off due to it breaking when you grow or shrink.

>Bobby was the first to respond.
"Only kits like sweet things. And the only sweet thing they is milk straight from the teet. Honestly though, is there anything else sweeter that animals want?"
>>5799130
>Adler continued to eat the eggs.
"No no! I can eat the eggs! No need to sacrifice rations just for me. Especially after you made this.... very salty meal for me."
>Maggie then leaned over to Ursus.
"Note to self, Adler is not a fan of salt."
>Maggie whispers to the bear.
>>5799181
>Maghie then noticed Kinny the Cat come up to her.
>She then looked at the map Kinny gave her.
"Huh? Is that what Russia looked like? Thought it would be smaller?"
>She then looked over the dots Einstein added.
"So looks like there are a few here in Canada? Should we try and see if there are any people who woke up from these labs? I mean after Canis Lupin. I know Mog really wants his army by now. Not to mention we have to find the kids that my brother saved in Canada."
>>5799206
I'm using these for the next time we need a map.
>>
>>5799206
Maggie and the Slime?
>>
>>5799211
I’ll keep this mind
>>
>>5799211
Well there’s always honey
Sugarcane, syrup, meed cider but that’s my personal favorites
>>
>>5799211
Padding over to stand on his hind legs and lean on Maggie's back, he peered over her shoulder at the map.

"Huh, is this the shape of the world? It seems so...mundane...knowing the scope of our sacred earth. Just seeing it all laid out there. Guess it's 'cause this thing does capture the beauty of breadth of all the little details of the land." Mog sidetracked as he took it all in.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Mog chided himself, no need for a Kinny paw gazing moment, he already did enough of that himself already. The wolf gave Maggie's cheek a few friendly licks, then climbed off of her and sat back down.

"Sure, whichever is closest. We really do need to solve the mystery of Xenarus. That and with people like Simon's Patron out there, I'm guessing we are on a slowly ticking clock before some wacky Old One does some crazy shit and makes things worse for us animals. If there are any human ice weapons lying around then those would be good for dealing with the dragons too. Plus we had that whole plan of using the wealth from the bunkers to fuel our fight against the Factions. Canis Lupin first though, it is right here, nearby, sort of. Unless a lab or the kids are closer?" Mog decided after a moment of thought.
>>
>>5799217
I think the kids are closer also I believe Maggie has some stake in them so we should still go check it out
>>
>>5799223
Mog shrugged. "Fine by me. Gotta keep our promises, keep the younglings safe. Anyways, shall we head into town?"
>>
>>5799215
"Question."
>Bobby begins.
"Do you know how hard it is to get honey?! I mean have you ever been stung by a bee before? I sure haven't and I intend to never get stabbed by those fuckers!"
>>5799217
>Maggie understands Mog's orders.
>Canis Lupin First unless the kids or the cryogenic chambers were to appear first.
>Then again, looking at the map.
"Where exactly are we on this map? Okay so we were at New York... we went a bit North. Got fucked in directions thanks to those hippies... shit are we even near Canis Lupin? Mog can you use your nose to figure out how close we are?"
>>
>>5799228
That’s because you didn’t smoke the hives before you got the honey
>>
>>5799229
This makes them gather a whole bunch of honey before leaving making them extremely lethargic
>>
>>5799229
>>5799232
"Ursus, the bees are about the same size as Kinny and I. I don't think a puff of smoke is going to put a whole big ass army of bees to sleep. Especially if you are very much going to steal their honey. I may be brave enough to steal from the old ones.... but bees are where I draw thr line. Especially wasps. Wasps are angry fuckers you don't want to mess with."
>>
>>5799228
Mog looked confused. He leapt up on her shoulder again. "What...or where is New York? I knew a half way decent pig sergeant called York. Moderated himself, didn't steal all the food, kept his nose, and his body clean. Had a bad habit of desecrating the dead though, bit him and us in the ass when our enemies start fighting dirty to return to the favour. Anyways..." He stopped himself from rambling, his eyes following Maggie's finger as she traced it along the map, outlining the contour of one of the big islands they all supposedly lived on, "So we're on the east coast, huh?"

In response to her request, Mog again leapt off his human arm rest and sniffed the air. Turning back to her, he said "If I put my nose to the dirt and wander a few miles off north then eventually I can get a sense of if any wolves have been around here. It'll take a while though, and won't be a sure thing. We can start looking around the area once we've cleared out the town. I'm sure we're all eager to check out the sights and see the museums, assuming there isn't some horrible monster laying in wait here after having eaten all the residents or something"

His imagination really was getting away from him, but the sense of danger persisted. Old habits die hard.

>>5799232
"Heh, bees, brings back memories! Hey, that rhymes! I shoulda been a poet, but my ma wouldn't let me have a go at it! Heh, heh, heh," Mog laughed, feeling in a bit of a silly mood after having the first good sleep in a long time, before turning to Kinny to retread an old reminiscence again, "Ey Kinny, I know I've brought it up twice now in as many days, but remember Windy Vale; with the red fox and the bumblebees? One stung your ass, HAHAha..."

The old coot trailed off, laughing to himself. He killed the time waiting for the others to finish breakfast and get ready to explore town going through old memories and laughing quietly like a mad man to himself.
>>
>>5799239
I mean they are still very small to a bear like you Ursus.
>>5799237
>Jenkins then stood.
"So we're entering the town? Sounds like a plan. Though I think we should split into two teams. One for outside that singular building for lookout and the other for looting inside. I for one volunteer to be outside and request that the two big cats go with you. They already cause a bunch of scenes while we were in that crater. We don't need anymore if we see something else outside."
>>
>>5799243
More a reason to farm/ domesticate them
>>
>>5799243
"Sure, but keep Adler and Bobby with you, gotta keep a three hundred and sixty degree look out. Make sure none of you get jumped, y'hear?" Mog replied back, still chuckling softly to himself.

Jenkins knew how to do his job, scout by profession and all, but it never hurt to have redundancy.

Raising his voice, he yelled out "Y'hear that everyone!? Keep an ear open and a eye on one another! We don't know what's in this town. Now, if everyone's ready, lets go!"
>>
>>5799247
Let’s head out and see what we find
>>
I'm guessing that we're wrapping up for the day since Kinny seems to be busy or getting ready to sleep. Shall we call it for this session and continue next Tuesday?

This thread is also close to falling off the board. So I'll archive it sometime before it does. Probably before next session since board activity seems to be picking up and pushing threads off faster. Or at least it feels like that to me.

>>5799259

>Adler's salt hate
Actually, pretty sure that Adler would kill for salt, if those tree f- huggers are on a veggie-only diet. Reminder that salt is something rare in nature and animals walk into caves just to lick it up.
>>5799210
The cat deflated slightly. "Yeah, I get it, I get it. Doubt I'd forget something like that, but sho knows." He gave the ring one last look, before putting it in his pocket.
>>5799212
Hah, see that's why I asked. My mind's a mess.

"Remember that one time you ate that pomegranate Mog..? I think I'd take a bee stinging my furry butt over what happened to your later that day." Kinny responded with an angelic smile.

"Yeah let's go"

>>5799269
Nah man we can continue later. But I must make us a map. Not to mention I got an IRL session of DnD this Saturday with friends and I should really get prepared on that.
They're playing the same campaign but they ended up in Animal Vegas and are now in Ape Kingdom about to fight in the gladitorial games. Trust me when I say this... they're not gonna like who they have to fight.
Basically Pic Related but much older and has a bit of a Lenny Personality.
>>
>>5799265
Nah, not your fault. It's appropriate for a downtime session. I hope to have another one soon actually, just with some other stuff nearby to interact with, and some time where we don't have to focus on recovering our PC resources like spells. Just somewhere where we can chat, but have amenities and more NPCs around to interact with.

>>5799269
To be fair, Adler basically lived in a cave system and had a trade town nearby to get salt from.

"Ugh! Don't REMIND me! I can still feel the taste on my tongue. And how it went down. Oh Goddess help me, the shits! The shits I had that day, hells, that entire week! Oh god, it ran like a river, with the wind it stunk up the whole Vale! An entire valley, can you believe it. It was terrible." Mog burst into a sulking rant. Traumatized by the memory far beyond what any bee could inflict.

If you're good for it, then we can continue for an hour. I'm still good to go. We can at least enter town.
>>
>>5799271
There was still that unused one by Ursus(?) from a few threads ago, maybe thread 4, of Mog that you never used. In the meta thread that fell off the board we mentioned it and Kinny reposted it. We expected you to use it for this one, but that never happened so I guess you missed it.

>>5799282
>>5799269
If either of you have the image I'm talking about, the one that is flipped the right way around, then go ahead and post it for QM to use for next thread.

Technical stuffs:
Idk in what way, but maybe I could help with the map somehow? You seem to be stuck with RPGM tileset stuff which doesn't allow for any sort of custom details/deviation from grid Although the map for underground bunker room was peak comfy., so maybe I could try to make something according to your instructions just to see how it looks?
Another thing, I've noticed picrel when looking for my thread. Maybe try putting "Quest" (like "Rise of the Awakened Quest") in the next thread title for more attention?
>>
>>5799298
>What did they do with wolves that Kinny nuked in the shed, aka Mog's would-be harem?
They did end up lying to them successfully. Though they did have to fight them in the barn. The Husky Paladin ended up electricuting them with a cattleprod. Fun fact they didn't get the Electric Daggers til later. They also set fire to the barn.
>What happened to Einstein?
They have no Einstein. In fact there were no mice in their game. There was originally but due to a time constraint I had to cut them out. You guys got the mice and I somewhat regret that I did give you guys the mice bullshit. Especially since it ruined your plans.
>What did they do with the robot?
They were multiple robots. The robots they got were one at the barn which our hairless cat sorcerer ended up waking up. Which only had one job, protect human (humans that woke up in that game were two twin boys). That was it. Which they used to kill off Boaris Tweed (who they dub as Bacon Face because they barely remember his name and remember that they burned to death). The other place where the robot was found was at the town. You guys got the crazy bot (which I do think was better in hindsight) while they got AIs that looked like celebrities. Where you had Jim Henson, Mr Rodgers, Walt Disney, and Stan Lee working in a grocery store, Audrey Hepburn as a librarian, Robin Williams as a restaurant owner, David Bowie as a fashion designer, Tim Curry as the hotel owner, and Sean Fucking Connery as the mayor. They were there to lore dump. Instead they ended up getting cornered by lizards in the hotel in which they decide to burn down to try and kill'em. No more AI has arrived since then but I probably should try adding in the crazy bot at some point since again, I liked crazy bot. Gonna be hard to do that IRL though.
>Do they have a racoon?
Yes. He is their rogue and he is not retarded... he's just a pyromaniac. Yeah my table likes to set everything on fire. They set the barn on fire, they set a hotel on fire, they set about two bears on fire, they set the forest on fire, and they set an owlbear on fire. So yeah burning things is their way to go.
I'll probably tell more differences and maybe the full story eventually. Though I will have to censor the names since they want to be anonymous so I'll probably refer to them as Husky Paladin and Raccoon Rogue, so on so forth

What plans did it ruin? Not sure I follow.
>You guys got the crazy bot (which I do think was better in hindsight)
Yeah he was kino, though murdering animals and piling up their carcasses was a bit hardcore compared to other things being rather mild in general.
>AIs
Those also sound cool.
>racoon
>he's not retarded

Oh! Oh yeah, that was kind of unfair since we had no clue and couldn't expect something like that happening, but it doesn't matter now. Additionally, I did a multikill, so it was very much a win in the end.
I wonder what do Einstein's parents think of their son being kidnapped. Also kinda funny is the fact that he doesn't seem to mind.
I'm currently considering fully remaking Ursus' sketch of Mog and will post it if I'm done in time before next thread, so please check here before you start new thread. I'll post a WIP now just because I think it looks neat, but it's not the finished version.
