Far below the red sands of Nuceria, a battle is waged where the prize of the victorious will be the fate of the planet and its people. You, Lieren, second born son of the emperor of mankind and father of one of his legion of astartes, the great hunter of the wilds of Shangrala and great philosopher and builder of the prosperity, unity and peace most of its inhabitants now enjoy and fierce nemesis of all servants and slaves of the discordant powers, alongside your brother, Angron, the lord of the red sands, the unbeaten champion of the high rider's gladiatorial death games and the once enslaved freedom fighter who leads his people in open rebellion as you once did, are two of the combatants in this war in the dark, this destined battle.

The enemy you face, is a remnant, a shadow of a long dead race born from their collective suicide. A failed attempt at transferring their consciousness to living steel it is a soulless, artificial entity. An abominable intelligence of xenos origin, and a friend of the tyranical high riders. Just now it has pleaded with you halt your advance to bury and blade in its heart and end your attack upon it, as its service to the oppressors of Angron's people was only performed in the pursuit of order and peace, but without a heart or living soul, it was unrestrained by the dilemmas of either. Without morality, ethics or limits, it has created fertile soil for atrocity and injustice on a scale as grand as the hedonism of the Yan kings, the brutality of the Butcher king, and the despotism of the soul devouring lord of benighted sands. Your brother is enraged, with murder on his mind. The only desire he holds towards the shadow of the past, is total destruction. Revenge for all its misdeeds and wrongdoings.

But while you agree that it is a villain of the worst kind, it would be a great loss if the legacy it has begged you to preserve by sparing its life was to be lost. But, you have killed men for far lesser crimes than this abominable digital mind has and it is no man. It is a monstrosity, and a tyrant as well. You have killed those for merely existing.

"All things must one day end and be forgotten" You answer to the silence surrounding you, your brother and your surviving soldiers "And I have seen what your "kindness" has wrought. oung boys drained to feed a bloated corpse. Men chained like animals. My own brother collared and abused. You will die this night. It is the only "logical" reaction there can be"

There is a buzz of a static, like a sharp breath taken through clenched teeth.

"So there will be no reasoning with you, child of dreams?" It asked, knowing that further appeals for mercy would be pointless "You are content knowing it is your hand that shall erase the legacy of your kind's brothers by oath and deed? Are you prepared to not only hide but utterly erase such histories?"

You rolled your eyes, and lifting up your sword, gave your ultimatum as you and Angron stood on the invisible boundary line it has drawn, so close to the generator that served as its heart.

"Bad history has no purpose being remembered. May tyrants names turn to dust and sand and be forgotten" He spoke calmly as he rolled his shoulders and bared his teeth

"If you are unwilling to surrender, than you shall hang with every other tyrant I've hunted" You state coldly, lowering your blade as you felt the pressure of the air change as the AI became incensed by your refusal to compromise and cease your attack upon it "If you truly wish for your "Legacy" to be saved, Compile all that you have learned, Tech, Art, Political though, Agricultrure, History, anything that can be used, dissected, and learned from. Then isolate and cage yourself. You will still die, but you will behind your creators' and our progress and unsure their kinship with us is not so swiftly forgotten"

"You statement is false. Somethings do not fade, and while they may be forgotten, shall rise again to prominence. My people sought to replicate the crude immortality found by the necrontyr in the infancy of the galaxy. Some substances are immune to decay and the passage of time. With proper maintained, I shall endure beyond the lifespan of this world's own sun" It answered at last "And you have shown that you cannot be trusted maintaining and preserving this legacy I guard and contain, without altering or damaging it. You have shown do not care for results, only the whims of your own heart. Such is the frailty of organic life. You offer the eventual destruction of my progenitors memory in exchange for my immediate end"

"So you refuse my offer of a quick and merciless execution?" You ask pointedly as Angron is already stepping over the boundary, having heard enough of the entity's ravings

"Yes" it answers "Do you refuse my offer of a ceasefire"

"Of course" You answer as you join your brother over the line, followed shortly by Dugg, and the gladiators who survived this far into the belly of the beast

"Then perish" it spoke as spectral figures of nanomachines and hardlight emerged from the darkness, as robotic drones burst from the walls, their shapes refined and improved from the data gathered from its earlier assaults and ambushes against your forces "along with the vessels of coalesced souls and the scions of the ancient empire whom you have deceived into your service"

Seeing Lieren black out so to speak and go Logic Killbot ogre upon this ancient machine could be pretty cool. Angron and any other survivors just looking in sheer shock at whatever we did which will slowly come back to us over time. [think Moon Knight].

As for cut aways seeing our effect on other Primarch could be neat or maybe if the actions of us and Angron are being mirrored somewhat by the legions themselves? Time warp fuckery with our messaging to dad might mean Horus in real time has actually been found? Who knows whats happening there

The Master of Mankind looked at the viewing screen impassively the transition from the Vengeful Spirit one of bravado and mockery. The Traitors were speeding towards Terra this very moment and he frowned for what his misplay had cost him, the Khan had turned traitor and revealed the Loyalist war plan which in turn had led tot he capture of one of his most valued pieces; the Panther. Turning from the screen and back tot he table he and Malcador were playing their game upon, a game of Regicide in it's most extravagant form.

“What will you do now?” the Sigillite asked moving the Serpent to stand beside the High Priest and Archtraitor forming a spearhead while also guarding the captured Panther.

The Emperor closed his eyes and his old friend swore he saw a tear before he felt a brief pulse of psychic energy from his friend, a pulse which washed over the place and beyond into the night.

The reached forward and took the Panther piece looking at it sadly.

“He'd understand.”

“My Lord that piece can't move it is trapped among the others?”

“Not trapped, positioned-”

The piece was put back upside down revealing an inverted carving, a hideous snarling ogre.

“-Panther's make good trophies but to take one alive into your home?” his voice trailed off and Malcador pondered his next move as the Emperor reach forward to take come of his pieces.

---

Lorgar looked over the bound and tortured form of his brother with pride, while capturing him had been costly for the Traitors they had secured one of the False Emperor's most valuable assets for both military application and information gathering. The Panther now hung suspended in the air by eight chains and those damnable golden eyes had been torn from his skull while lacerations and bruising coat his body, yet still he smiled gently through blooded teeth and torn lips.

“What cause have you kept me for my deluded little brother?” the Panther asked softly,

“Oh no Lieren; eight times damned. You will be answering my questions as you would have been present for the Loyalist strategy meeting, you will have seen the inner workings of the Palace! I will pull your secrets from you one way or another so spare yourself pain... tell me where Russ and his Wolves have vanished to? Who mans the palace alongside our father, Dorn and Curze?”

“You know I won't tell you, I shall remain as silent as the night sky.”

Lorgar's grin became manic and his sigil etched hand became aglow with rainbow fire.

“Then I shall pull those secrets from your mind.”

The hand reached forward, Lieren didn't resist still smiling until the very last moment when Fulgrim entered the room announcing his return with his own Legion to aid the traitors... three on one ship, he frowned and a tear escaped his scared sockets.

1/?

---

Fulgrim watched Lorgar work with a twisted fascination for while he did noti make great use of the esoteric arts, torture? That was something he did take joy in alongside his vulpine bride whom clung to his side looking upon the tortured form of the hangman with glee.

She whispered in his ear “you should see him burnt alive for me, a fitting fate and slow.”

he chuckled and cupped the Daemon brides cheek, “of course my Beguiler.”

she preen under his praise but then suddenly froze.

“What is it my darling fox?”

“hush husband...listen...the false Emperor is calling out to his caged panther~ He says...how strange they are words of... GET BACK YOU FOOLS!”

Lorgar's brow furrowed, Lieren twitched.

As the two had mentally duelled the panther had every taunted the High Priest in a playful manner filling memories with imagined events and faux plays to obscure the truth but then a pulse from beyond the ship had washed over them. Lieren stopped his prancing and instead frowned, within their mind he embraced his corrupt brother? An action which completely confused the traitor, he'd then spoken a brief sentence before the tranquil landscape of flowers, temples and trees began to fade.

“It seems none of us are leaving her alive Brother; goodbye.”

---

Alarms screamed and the halls flashed in red aboard the Vengeful Spirit an order spoken through the warp had shaken the ship and sounded in the minds of many.

“I command you my Son; break your mask and your chains, bring me Victory no matter the cost.”

Only a few moments had passed since but already anarchy was filling the ship, Horus watched with horror as Lieren so many deck below launched forward pulling an arm from it's socket to reach forward enough to tear out the throat of Lorgar whom fell back grasping the wound even as Lieren turned and now with a range of motion somewhat contorted his body and with a mighty heave pulled his other arm free tearing his flesh to do so but pulling it out largely whole while from the stump on his other side black smoke bellowed free like it did from his mouth and nostrils.

It didn't take a moment for Fulgrim to launch forward sword already drawn faster than a blink and launching for the loyalists heart but the blow was deflected in the blackness angled down? The sound of metal being cut echoed across the deck and the Phoenix of Chemos fell back his sword missing from his grasp.

Black smoke continued to pool outwards and from that darkness two burning orbs appeared once more.

Horus bellowed on the speaker to those in the room “KILL HIM, KILL HIM NOW! NOW DAMMIT!”

2/?
>>
>>5656767
All the Warmaster could do was watch in horror as the room became a charnal house, Lorgar crawled away still clutching his neck wound but was grabbed by a powerful hand and pulled into the gloom, the sound of pulping and tearing of meat were all that escaped... no screams.

Fulgrim made for the exit only to find his wife had abandoned him to instead flee, locking him in to buy herself time to escape; betray by his love. Fulgrim simply stood pale and sad as the smoke drew close, he didn't raise a hand to defend himself even as his own sword's edge emerged from the black and cut him in two from brow to groin.

Horus gave orders for his sons to lock down the ship, set firing lines and make ready for an assault, one which never came?

Then the screams from the engineering deck, the ships power began to fail.

Next came the rising temperature, for a fraction of a second Horus wondered what was afoot then he understood.

“Retake the Reactor Core! Im on my way!”

He hated it but he had to leave the security of the bridge, Lieren was overheating the ships reactor and if it went critical there was no escape from a fiery doom. The... Ogre of Shangrala had forced his hand. He had to face him and win to restore cooling to the reactor or he'd perish... which meant crossing blades with the Ogre.

He sprinted down the halls and smashed through bulkheads finally reaching the core room the great machine screaming in torment as he foe stood before him smoke of darkest hate wafting from him.

Lieren was pale, an arm missing, his body riddled with bullets holes and his cheek half blown open by some lucky shot. But Horus had learned a saying from this brother; A wounded Panther fights thrice as hard.

He charged, only for Lieren to raise his remaining hand, a detonator. There would be no duel, only death for them both.

----

Within the deepest vaults the Emperor removed four pieces from the board, rising and turning away from the game,

“Goodbye my beloved son.”

and so the Lord of Lightning grieved.

Unsurprising that when you offer a opponent one of two choices, fight and die or surrender and die that they fucking choose to fight and die.
Lieren absolutely has lied to those he wants to kill in the past so we could have just locked it in a box then triggered the anti-matter fail safes if we wanted.
Looks like will need to add greatly improved eldar wraith bodies to the list of things we need to make since I am betting the craft worlds will refuse the soul stones of any journey follower.

So Lieren shall warn Kanzeon and his aeldari allies, before channeling Reality flickers before the approaching storm with the foci of the rage he feels at those he cherishes being threatened and the unconquerable desire he feels to protect what he loves

This actually made me cry. Fantastic work and a glorious last stand
"A wounded Panther fights thrice as hard."

>>5657650
To quote the man himself "Do not fear death, do not hate death. All things are transient and will one day end, but they shall
remain."
>>
That was a very poor choice of words. Threats towards your own person are as meaningless and ineffectual as firing arrows towards a stormfront. But threats to those you cherish, whom the deepest waters of your love flow towards, those demand action. Violent action against the fool who dared to use the safety of your beloved and your honorable and sagacious students and all others whose company and smiles you delight in against you like the head of a spear. To call the decision suicidal would be a gross understatement, like calling the excesses of the kings who came before Jinhai light indulgence or calling the reign of Kamal Kanan merely wicked rather than unforgivably vile.

Taking a sharp breath, your content smile turns into a panther's snarl, the same that even your closest friend and kin have called terrifying and more imposing than standing before the beast whose hide you've taken as your symbol itself. Bowing your head, you scramble a warning, a burst of psionic energies, flinging your thoughts into the darkness at your back like a lit torch into the fog, illuminating and chasing away the gloom.

"Kanzeon, my beloved, Anahita, the threat posed by our enemy has risen dramatically, guard your internal systems and shore up the defenses of your digitized mines. Protect your bodies. Angron and I shall tear out its heart. Turn your blood stained faces away from the battlefield. Flee if you must, but do not grow overconfident. Your safety is priority level one" Was the desperate plea you screamed into the shadows, as you took another step after Angron

"Forlorn children of the craftworlds, those who gave up everything in pursuit of wisdom and truth. I know not what goal you seek in the belly of this iron beast, but know this, friends of farseer Carys and students of the journey, our quarry is bearing its fangs and claws. Retreat if you haven't already. If you cannot, then fight like devils but do not grow cocky. Your kind are few, mine are many, my brother and I shall throw ourselves into its maw if we must, to protect you and those atop the sands and within the skies"

"Lieren" Kanzeon called back, her voice faint and filled with static, but you could sense her desperate concern. She knew you were planning to do something that others might deem reckless and self destructive, even suicidal. But you had weighed your options and decided that the most efficient means of protecting those you hold closest to your heart and shower in the most brilliant warmth cast by the gilded fires of your soul, was to go berserk and release the black rage that you had kept contained even while facing the most vicious of demons and the most vile and villainous of tiles.

"The ogre awakes" You answered back solemnly as you clapped your hands together, performing the same three claps your mentor Guozhi habitually performs in ceremony and prayer, pacing your breath and filling your lungs with the stagnant, oil scented air surrounding you.

Imposing your will on reality, it flickered and fled as you took in one hand the black, murderous rage dripping like blood from a wound and shoved it deep into the crucible of your spirit. The golden flames flared, flickering as black smoke tainted the tips of their tails. Then, with your hand not yet scorched by fire and hate, you dip it gently into the river of silvery moonlight at your feet and lift it up with a handful of the cold water in your hand. Then you cast that to in the fire, white steam rising with a hiss before spreading like the serene wings of a crane in flight across the moon.

You breath out, black smoke flaring from your nostrils and white steam rising from your lips. And then you scream. And then you roar, as reality flickers and shudders.

Your eyes opened and saw two different worlds, severed by a jagged blade held by an unsteady hand. One was lit aflame, consumed by an inferno of flickering shadows and choking clouds of funerary pyre smoke. Piles of skulls stood stack, burning like lanterns. Shades and shadows stalked, nooses around their necks and spears in their bellies. In the other, there was a serene white road, lit by swinging electrical lanterns, empty except for the warm, mirthful laughter of the unseen beckoning and welcoming you to join them.

"Yin and Yang." You cackle, in a voice that is now longer your own as your become your own deadly rage. The hand that buried itself in the well of your hatred has curled and become claw like, black flames licking at your finger tips as it discolors the armor, making it seem like your skin has become an ethereal fog panther's hide. The hand that soothed itself in the moonlight that flowed from your heart now bound by the chains of enmity and wrath had soften and grown gentle, turning pale white like a ghost hands, wrapped with a green silk ribbon. It would seem the fuel for this psykerist technique has produced an internal struggle between your rage and desire to shield others from harm. One is a fire that screams to the sky it shall consume all things and blacken the world with soot and ash, the other promising quietly that when the conflagration ceases and quiet reigns, it shall offer guidance and relief to those whose lives the black flame ogre awoke to protect. Curious, most curious. It would seem this self taught technique yet has mysteries for you to unlock. When two opposites meet, in this case the desire to destroy and the desire to shield, as reality flickers, two worlds are glimpsed each painted by a different hue of your discordant heart. Fascinating. But there is no time to dwell on what this means or the results it could create with further testing.

left alone, one would consume the other, Yang burning Yin or Yin soothing Yang. You do not wish to leave those you love undefended, nor do you wish to play this trump card and not rip at least a single limb from the body of your enemy.
Cont
>>
>>5659586

It will have counter measures in place now that it knows the breadth of your power as a psykerist. These desires must be separated, the two worlds removed to allowed to be grown without the other strangling and retarding their expression upon the transient field you have dyed with your force of will.

But in this world, in this reality you have shaped in the forge of your heart and mind and wetted in the waters of your belief, you are king, you are the painted. And a painted can cut his canvas cleanly. You shall create an avatar of psionic energy, of the soothing moonlight and control it with half of your mind, an easy task. Severing yourself in two is beyond your abilities and you do not wish to test your limits during such a pivotal and lethal fight, so instead you shall create the illusion of it and cut your shadow, one of the aspects of Yin, from your back and use it like a puppet, and have it carry the flickering scene seen by your right eye, while you throw yourself into the grim hellscape revealed by your left.

Sighing out, you allow your rage, for the first time in your life, to escape from its cage and take the reigns as you cordon off another aspect of your mind to remain controlled and emotionless, with which you may use to guide the illusionary spirit you have conjured from the shadow you cast.
_

Angron paused. His brother has stopped. His instincts warned him there was a danger at his back, greater than a knife aimed towards the ribs, larger than an ogryn with the iron nails bolted to its skull and more deadly yet. He frowned. He sensed that his brother had become enraged, how couldn't he. Even if he had refused his offer to train him in the art of psykerism, he'd have known the ancient machine had infuriated him with its promise to slaughter his loved ones. He didn't blame him for being angry, he would've been angrier himself if his own were threatened so plainly and openly. But while his rage had peaked and simmered, giving him a steady flow of adrenaline and encouragement, Lieren's grew and grew. He hadn't realized how much hatred his coy and playful brother hid behind that humble smile and those gentle eyes. He had an inkling of it, from watching how efficiently and coldly he fought and how swiftly those hands that had built so much could turn to pull down walls and end lives.

And he had also heard rumors, gossip spread by his friends and followers, the foreign legions he had called and summoned to Nuceria. They told stories, half of which couldn't possibly be true, of Lieren to his men, his armies of the freed and liberated. And one story he heard, past around in the dead of night, spoke of an ogre, the thing kindly giants became when their tolerance and forgiveness was tested and found wanting.

He sighed, cracking his jaw. If he turned back, would he recognize his brother's face, or would he find himself face to face with a beast that tore its way out of his skin? He didn't know.
Cont
>>
>>5659588

His brother could do a lot of things that didn't seem possible or logical. The man could fly through the air and make himself appear haggard and old. Could he also turn himself into a monster? He didn't want to find out. His fighting instincts told him there was a threat, and acting on these instincts, he created a shield, around himself and the fortunate few besides himself and his brother to have lasted this long in the iron devil's gullet.

He didn't know what he was doing, but he felt like he could make a shield. Lieren could, with a twist of his hand, break bones without touching his victims and could, with the same power, bid great stones to float in the air. Perhaps he could do the same, but use that unseen force as a barrier of a kind.

Snorting, Angron stepped to the side as a howl of fury he had only seen in the eyes of those poor bastards who had iron nails shoved into their scowls rattled through the hall, shaking his bones and vibrating his teeth. Lieren stood and Angron could not believe his eyes. The world had changed, he was standing on a strip of blood red sand, lighted by burning bones, covered in shadowy flames and hanged ghosts, and Lieren had sprouted two horns and four tusks and was furred by a feline coat of flickering flames. What the hell did he just do? Dugg lifted his head, his eyes dulling and losing the strange acuity and sharpness that had possessed them earlier.

"I've come to crack your bones of steel, and drink your oily marrow, cur!" Lieren bellowed in a voice that echoed and carried like the sound of a struck bell, shifting through the air like super heated air, every syllable spoken a threat. It was more like the cry of a rabid beast than a man.

"I will cast all you are, all you have made to the dirt, and burn it with my rage till not even ash remains!" He roared as suddenly, he became a behemoth of black fire and golden eyes hued red, like the setting sun, they flickered and danced like the fires risen from burning corpses. Angron couldn't help but to smile. He lowered the shield he hoped he had conjured with the sorcery his brother had taught him, and watched as the living wall of black fire, shaped like a horned titan, gnashed its fangs and surged through the hall, ripping and tearing any of the steel wrought warriors that got in its way.

"Well, what are we waiting for! Follow my brother's lead!" Angron roared, as he lifted up his two weapons and raced down the melted corridor that his brother left behind, as the vision of hell he saw was dragged behind him, leaving behind the destruction he left in his wake.

"What do you think the wanderer of eight paths is doing?" Kellas asked folant as they and their companions, wounded and weary and knowing it was wiser to listen to the wisdom of sages, fortified their location with superior firepower.

They were lucky that the machine had paid more attention to the obvious threats presented by the two primarchs and the sisters of a thousand souls, but that luck had ran out, and their first true fight against the ancient intelligence had left them all bloodied and battered. It was likely they would not escape without causalities, but death was something none of them feared. It was a strange trait for an Aeldari to have, the ranger reflected. Those of the craftworlds did all they could to escape and prevent death, those of the old ways smothered that fear with hedonistic excesses and boundless cruelty, and those of the primitive ways...well he'd never met one of the exodites, but he was certain they were less welcoming of death than those who walked the path laid by the golden eyed sage.

"I don't know" He answered honestly, as he could hear the approach of their soulless, lifelife enemies "We cannot retreat, our victory relies on our success. So we have to fight like devils and die without regrets"

"Incorrect" A strange, emotionless and ethereal voice spoke. It felt like ice water trickling down his back.

He lifted his head, and saw a...not a demon, and no spirit either. It was a collection of psionic energy piloted by a portion of Lieren's psyche, the cold, logical part that hid beneath his passionate and emotion front. It was his problem solving capability incarnated in a body of shadow wrapped in moonlight. It looked like a porcelain doll, made of gears so well fitted they seemed like a seamless river of churning metal, more like mist than machine. It had no face, just a blank mask. And he could tell this was the first time Lieren had ever used the ability to turn his shadow into an envoy of his will, as it was faint and ghost like and struggling to remain where it stood rather than behind the great back that cast it.

"I have come to ensure that the probability of casualties is reduced to the lowest percentage achievable" it explained as it waved a hand, lashing its arm out which showed that that habit was so ingrained into Lieren's psyche that he actually was doing it subconsciously rather than as a jape or dramatic flare "I shall repair your bodies, so you may succeed in your task, but that is all the assistance that can be lent in the span I can lend it. Rejoice, for the ogre shall soon return to its slumber"

"That will be enough" Folant declared, as the white specter turned and saw the approaching machines and with a wave of its hand, frozen them in place

"It seems my calculations were off by a second" Lieren's true voice rang from it "How shameful"

And then it was gone, and like it had promised, the aeldari found their wounds mending beneath that curious silver light.

"Lieren, are you alright?" Kanzeon demanded fretfully as you rested against a wall, exhausted and trying to catch your breath, flashes of your rampage playing through your eye as you marveled at how efficiently you tore through the ranks of mechanical warriors while swallowed up by the black smoke generated from your wrath

"Tired but otherwise uninjured." You answered, as you saw Angron and the other survivors of the mission sent deep into the belly of the beast, cutting down the reinforcements sent to bolster the legion you had cut a swath through like a sickle through rice.

"I was worried you were going to be lost to me" She says weakly, as you send all of the comforting energies and thoughts you can to her

"Holy hell, you weren't kidding!" Anahita laughs "The bastard went all out right before you socked him in the jaw with...whatever you did"

"He altered the localized fabric of realspace and the empyrean to bend it to his will. His will was murder" Kanzeon explains breathlessly, still on edge from the stunt you pulled "its one of his favorite tricks, and it is usually his finishing blow"

"Don't know what you did, but it worked" Angron said curtly "Can you stand and fight? We're near our target and we can't be slowed down"

You crack a smile

"I am our father's son" You declare as you stand proudly and raise the sword of love that it still dancing with black smoke. How curious.

"Don't overexert yourself, I'll kill you myself if you die" Kanzeon teased "Here, the idiot forgot me and Annie are still in the sky, what do you say sister"

"A surprise attack? My specialty!" Anahita cackles triumphantly

What do you do, as you enter into the chamber of the ancient shadow's "Heart", Lieren?

Though even if they did, you named them humanity's brothers in oath and deed, so they would likely look upon you in utter contempt as well. There is a cry of mechanical agony. Static and grinding gears, interwoven with the low rumble of thunder and the bubbling of boiling metal. Lightning hued green and blue bronze tear through the strange metals of the ancient crypt as its master screams in a voice like a thousand sputtering and dying pylons. A hiss of electricity followed by an explosive bang. Kanzeon and Anahita are holding nothing back, so neither shall you and you know Angron carries on his back the grudges of too many fallen friends to be merciful this day. Raising up the bolter in your hand, you prepare to breech through the final obstacle in your way to the auxiliary power supply. But before you can unleash hell upon the doorway, you notice Dugg, the last of the ogryn's standing and drawing breath in your band of condemned heroes. His eyes are dimmed and flick around, frightened and scared. He's drawing in breath rapidly, panting, searching for a way out.

a twinge of pity and sorrow strike at your heart, and you reach out to his mind and spirit with the warmth of your golden sea, lifting him back up from the swamp of ignorance and lackwittedness to return him to that temporary state of genius and grace. He blinks once and wipes drool from his mouth, seeming awed that the world has once more filled with clarity and all that was unknowable or misunderstood has become comprehensible once again

"Forgive me, Dugg, for leaving you behind in my charge" You apologize as he looks into your eyes with a joy that could almost be mistaken for boundless, but there is a limit to all things "My anger took hold of me, I could not allow our enemy to threaten those I hold closest to my heart"

"Rage is one hell of a motivator" Angron states as he, noticing that the beast is distracted fending of Kanzeon and Anahita's vicious surprise attack on its various subsystems and networks, takes time to realign, rehone and resharpen his axe and gladius with practiced ease, even though he has no need to do so since both weapons possess a powerfield by the graces of Anahita's craftsmanship

"Do not apologize, I am grateful beyond words that you would bless me with even but another moment of understanding. It hurts when it is taken from me, but I can smile and be content knowing that I experienced the world through unclouded eyes, oh glorious one, even if what I learn becomes...rather difficult to grasp once I..become an idiot again." He says humbly, bowing his head "I just wish all ogryn could be as you, perhaps if we weren't raised like beasts of burden or war we could be so blessed"

Angron glances to you, his hard eyes sharing the look of quiet pity you give dugg, a pity that even his gladiators, quiet with a smoldering rage to avenge their fallen comrades share.

"Ready?" Angron asks

"Always" You answer.

In the time it takes to blink, the two of kick the door and buckle the metal, right as the entity recovers and stops reeling from Kanzeon and Anahita's violent assault upon it

It comes down when Dugg throws himself against it, and the sight that lays beyond the door challenges belief. Your eyes see the truth of all things, and so it is easy for you to come to terms with and understand what lays in front of you at any given moment, to comprehend its inner workings and with intense study know its purpose and how it functions. But the device that dominates the room is something that challenges even your vast insight. And you have walked into Kanzeon's mind and saw the very construction of her thoughts. Four arched pylons rise like skyscrapers, ridged and studded with grey silver nodules, from which lilac blue tendrils as thin as horse hairs emerge, meshing and interlocking with one another as streams of plasma and a substance you can only describe as light turned to steam float between them. There is a pool of bubbling red liquid, above which a miniature sun sits contained in a well of gravity. You can understand easily enough how the device generates power, but not how it is connected to the rest of the facility. It floats, anchored and connected to nothing as streams of nanomachines move to and from it.

And once you've seen the tiny machines, it dawns on you.

This whole ruin is a colony organism, something you've only heard about in theory as none exist upon Shangrala to your knowledge. But Kanzeon's late sisters, Albina and Philotes did keep some as pets, though they weren't natural creatures but rather one of their many gene altered menagerie. Like those odd cats with only four limbs, no spine or tail tassels and no "beard" might have been.

"INTERLOPERS!" The machine roars as the device suddenly falls inert and from the streams of plasma emerges a giant of pure energy and light, and with a flick of its wrist, the nanomachine swarms rise up like a wave. You blink and can tell they have all been altered and now present a deadly threat. If you had to venture a guess, the entity has designed them now to strip flesh from bone atom by atom.

What do you do Lieren?

Arkhas Fal and his fellow exiles of the newly reformed Ravenguard stood together in the ruined mega spire which once overlooked a bustling hive city, but it was that no longer the place was not even a graveyard. It was a memorial and lesson; in this dark galaxy isolation means death. The world had been picked clean by the Renegade Aeldari, the message he received immediately after Corax banished him and his fellow Terran born Legionaries was not a call for aid but rather redeployment and briefing? But what could be done here that could not be done through official channels? But he had obeyed the encrypted message for it bore the highest of clearances, he and his fellows had come and now they waited in this place while the world endlessly wept; for them, for it's stolen people. The former Shadelord was only just beginning to get restless when finally his second in command informed him that they should be ready to receive a visitor of the highest regard?

The men formed up as the weeping skies began to flash and boom in rage, but then he saw something in the gloom descending soundlessly from the night, floating as if lowered by invisible strings before them. The figure was spectre with golden eyes, featureless and the image of death itself. Yet in the flashes of lightning revealed his identity though the eyes alone had all but confirmed it; Lieren.

The men were filled with both awe and fear, dread and adoration both for the Secondborne's presence was an omen of great change if the stories were to be believed be it good or ill and to have him here Arkhas felt his eyes close; they'd be gathered to die.

But no blow came, only an embrace? It was something he didn't know he'd longed for. While Lieren was a daunting figure he was referred to many as the favoured uncle and if he was not here to put them to rest...then....then..

Lieren's presence flared and a gentle golden dome shielded all gathered from the rain, Golden eyes looked into him;

“Forgive your Father, my brother is young and his heart is still pure. I will not have you wasting away in the far corners of the Galaxy. I am going to take you somewhere better, somewhere new.”

“What do you want of us?” he asked “we are shamed, abandoned, exiled!”

“You are all dead” the Giant answered solemnly

“What to you mean Lord Lieren?”

“I altered records and your fleet is recorded as lost. You are but ghosts now and I have need of such men, your Emperor has need of them-” The Primarch reached toward the exiled son with an open hand “-come with me.”

Great writing.
I love the idea of us not being the first found or the firstborn but rather the eldest. We are probably the oldest, most mature, and tallest of all our brothers. I imagine us as being the size of Alpharius standing on Omegons shoulders.

Side note. We will never be a memory. Like malice we will lurk in the background, never taking center stage, a secret known only to the highest levels of command but unlike the 20th we will do it through complex plots and lies but rather through groups of trusted individuals engaging in rituals to obfuscate and misdirect from our true dealings and objective. I wonder what we should term these secretive groups. Not cults since that doesn't quite fit. Ah! I have it. Lodges.

For some reason after this is over I really wanna see some folk games from Shangrala being shared with the Nucerians after the gladiator fights die.
Particularly the Baask to share some village games; like anvil lift, boulder throw, sack carrying races, etc.
What could work for Long-Jia folk games?
Maybe without the brutality of the fights they will evolve to various forms of fencing with diverse weapons, just blunt ones for sport?

So Lieren, focused on defending the weaker members of the assault party from the devouring machines, will take inspiration from his beloved and his enemies to create a new psykerist technique, conjuring lightning from his own soul to create a storm of electricity and forge it into a shield of protection and a barrier of raw spiritual energy

The shadow has summoned grey clouds of death, reminiscent of the colossal squalls of corpses flies that infests the fetid manse of Na Gou. Mechanical gluttons and eaters of flesh. A swarm of vermin devices designed to pick clean biomatter and recycle it to turn against those who are capable of surviving its hunger. Among present company only you and your brother are capable of surviving the predations of the tiny machines. The rest will be maimed, mauled and crippled if they are not devoured completely and outright, which is far more likely than them enduring the starved mass of roiling blades, gnashing pistons and solar forges that approaches the much reduced assault party like a cloud of summer gnats.

You sigh out and close your eyes, and ponder the grave situation in total silence and stillness. If you join your brother in his charge to meet the digital entities avatar of light and burning plasma, there shall be not even a bone to bury left of those valiant souls who gave their lives in this assault upon this ancient threat and greatly deluded mind. Angron you trust to be able to battle against the titan that has woven itself out of the energies that give it life without your assistance. He might not have battled against as many opponents as dangerous and treacherous as you have and only cut down those undeserving of his blade, but he is a natural warrior, a skilled fighter and he is fueled by an avenging rage. It will not be a test, because you are confident he shall emerge the victor of the clash. Not unwounded or without scars to mark the battle like trophies taken from a hunt or badges, medals, accolades and epithets given to soldiers and officers who distinguish themselves on the battlefield, but he shall win. You know he will, because he is the undefeated king of the high rider's cruel death games.

And as certain as you are of your brother's prowess, so to are you certain that to take another step forward will be condemning Dugg and the few blood brothers who joined Angron on this grim execution to a death more agonizing than what the most twistedly imaginative minds could dream up and put to page. Unbidden, memories flash before your eyes of the thrall of the unseen master and various other sorcerers you've personally cut down or brought the noose around their neck, and of Kanzeon's own defenses and armaments. Empyrean winds refined into lightning and electricity harnessed and turned to a spear. Pale blue death and Emerald Judgement. The weapons of some of your most reviled enemies and the other half of your soul and life. Lightning. You've never thought to wield it yourself, or attempt to create it in the palm of your hands, but if it has been used by both she who alights your world with joy and comfort and those who darken it with just the presence of their memory, then it is effective. You know it to be, as you've been electrocuted more than once in your relatively short life.

>>

But they have only used it as a spear. Could it be reshaped into a shield? A storm tamed and trained to act as a wall of a stone, a tongue of lightning and crash of thunder pounded to form a shield. A barrier made of raw electricity and the stuff of your soul? Could lightning spun out of the energies of your ever burning spirit and the conflagration of your will be made to protect rather than destroy? A new psykerist technique, beyond any of the arts, styles or categories you have learned, adapted or created wholesale according to your needs. Perhaps Magnus or Guozhi know of a similar ability, but you would have to ask them. For now, you shall call forth the storm beneath the silvered moon and with your hand serving as a hammer, beat it into a nigh unbreakable shield.

Breathing in, you press your hands together, each one encased in Qi drawn from the metal around you and leeched from the vermin you seek to block. Silver sparks dance between your fingers as you compress the air trapped between your two palms and twist your hands, creating a bubble of Ionic force as electronic waves reverberate through the bones of your fingers like sound waves bursting from a gong. The taste of burning ozone dances on your tongue as a tingling sensation that heightens to a burn races down your arm as the flesh of your fingers glows blue silver, like steel polished and held up to pale moonlight or dark waters beneath the same night. Breathing out, you focus on the sphere of lightning you've captured in your hands, feeling it bounces and struggle to escape. Summoning the spirit's touch, you shore up the container of your hands with unseen psionic copies of it as the shockingly white light struggles to escape from between your fingers and out the back of your hands as the star metal gauntlets over your hands begin to glow, reaching its melting point.

Your clapped together hands feel as if you have driven them into the heart of a cold burning furnace, or gripped two live wires powered by Kanzeon's electric breath. You can feel the elemental you've summoned from within your self assaulting your nerves, traveling by your veins and glancing against your heart like dulled spear points. But despite the pain and strange sensations that accompany it, you have achieved your goal and with few hand signs taken from the exorcism techniques of the long dead Dai monks and their Wardens of mystery sect, you leash the storm that sits hidden between your hands and bind it to your iron will.
Cont
>>
>>5667826

"Machine. You challenge the storm itself. No more lives shall be taken by your hand, and your arrogance of thinking yourself the architect of Nuceria's fate shall be punished. For every molecule of human blood spilt this day, I shall call down a bolt of lightning, for every breath that shall not be breathed a crash of thunder shall be brought upon your head" You declare as part your hands and behind Angron, create a solid wall of electricity and dancing lightning, barricade of pure energy and soul stuff.

"For the years of oppression you've sown and all the slaves you've allowed to be trampled and used as fodder and mortar for the kingdoms of the high rider, I will take whatever you have as a heart and crush it beneath my heel, then, I will force you watch those dogs you've chosen to align with are brought to justice and slaughtered like the animals they are!" Angron roars, surprising you with a rage that surpasses even the black fury you hide behind your genial smile "FOR NUCERIA AND THE FALLEN, MEET MY STEEL!"

"Electricity is your lifeforce, and I command it now!" You bellow back "May you weep as many tears as you have permitted to be shed in the name of order and peace! Angron! Take this, my gift to you, and drive it into its black, emotionless heart!"

With a flick of your wrist, you sever a sliver of the wall and implant it into your brother's armor and weapons, and with a further twist of your hand, imbue them with magnetic force.

He cuts through the devouring swarm like a scythe through rice stalks, while the same cloud breaks upon the wall you've created, as Dugg and the surviving gladiators huddle behind you, those with firearms expending what little ammunition they have left into the seething cloud of hungry death as its countless flies buzz against your shield and burn out, sparking and vanishing like stars winking out in the night sky. It is almost like a firework show. But the cloud only grows, and its volume expands so greatly that the barrier you've erected cannot be maintained. And the microscopic explosions of the countless gnawing flies blinds you to your brothers battle, as you draw more and more upon your own soul's fire to keep the electric barrier standing.

"How dare a failure like you have to audacity to think it could threaten the lover of a successful transfer of mind and soul into machine" Kanzeon growls as threatening as a tiger "Alien man of iron, allow me to show you what a truly digital sapience can achieve, by teaching you the price of threatening my man! You are one, I am legion!"

You nearly faint from the amount of electricity Kanzeon courses into your body through the soles of your feet.
Cont
>>
>>5667828

"Damn kazzy, your protective side is really scary~" Anahita laughs as you blink away the stars in your eyes to see the tide of the nanomachine swarm has dissipated and retreated away, and that Angron is dodging the lighting and geysers of plasma spat out by the titanic golem of electricity as he hacks at the pylons "Also I didn't expect that big lug to know to attack the containment field around the plasmic core"

"He might not be a scholar like his sweet brother, but he is still a superhuman intellect" Kanzeon states plainly "Sorry for stealing your thunder, my dear scholar, but the sight of that failure reaching for your throat just pissed me off"

"There is no need to apologize, my oh so fierce firecracker" You assure as you open your mouth to release the smoke that has been cooking your lungs "I take no offense to being used like a lightning rod, It was a most efficient means of shoring up my barrier technique"

"You really should take offense for that" Anahita mutters as you watch your brother dodge the wild swings of the cornered beast.

What do you do Lieren?

take the most obvious statement of what the item is.

Ie, a wall of lightning.

Then add the prefix of "heavenly"

"Heavenly wall of lightning"

now use some poetic licence or simile to replace what it actually is.

"Heavenly Bulwark of Blazing Power"

and now shout it at the top of your lungs and see if it causes the peons round you to kowtow and give you face. If not, return to step one and repeat until success.

To the primitive denizens that blundered about the Galaxy the dead world of Thlax in the galactic core was but a rock in the unyielding grasp of a black hole doomed to be one day devoured; simpletons. If their reccord keeping had any measure of consistency or were updated within regular celestial cycles they should have noticed that it's orbit had not shrunk nor had it spiralled into oblivion for the truth was so much more. Thlax the obsidian ball of rock was in actuality the Tombworld of one; High Cryptek Khanaed, Scholar of Stars, the Obsidian Liege and Head of the Ten Tousand.

Yet despite all the mystery and secrecy the Jet Pearl of a world maintained they were making ready for company, the first none Necron visitors in an age! That being the Human Princeling named Lieren whom himself sported many titles his contact assured with earned with merit among his own kind; The Hangman, Tyrantsbane, the Jade Dragon... among the Necron courts however he had another... The Worthy. The reason for his visit was one of cordiality and etiquette which was something all reports confirmed the Primarch took great efforts to maintain, a respectable manner in the eyes of the overlords alongside a staunch loyalty to his own Emperor acting to the benefit of the this human 'Crusade' as they called it. The Godling had been studied from afar after his meddling on a number of worlds which at first piqued the interest of a few minor nobles. But then he brought the Aeldari to heel...that turned heads, Slaying the Pretender Construct...the High Court began to talk but it was his final invitation which deemed him worthy of introductions.

>>
>>5668620
The Human Crusade encountered a dead world which contained within its depth fragments of the old ways, Necrontyr. Artefacts from before the Great Transference! But rather than being the brute and destroying them as others would he in fact returned them at the entrance of a Tomb where until then all still slumbered. He bought entrance and introduced himself with all politeness asking only for understanding. Thus a coded message was sent, he decoded it with his most astute bride and now he was entering orbit.

Khanaed strode through the grand chambers of arcing silver and marched into his throne room where he would await his guest. Banners of the his people hung proudly, the constructs had ensured not an atom of dust remained and an anonymous gift had been donated to give the Primarch; a bottle of some fermented and distilled liquid it's label faded but the words 'Islay' could be faintly read. The honour guard of ten thousand awoken Immortals and a thousand elite Lichguard lined the path to the chamber showing both might and majesty not moving an iota as they stood in parade salute.

What manner of guest would Lieren be? What tidings would he bring? Oh the chance to study was enough to-

“Greetings old friend” A voice spoke form the dark,

Khanaed spun as did the his guards weapon aglow with bale fire in a moment their ominous glow revealing this new and unexpected visitor; Trazyn...

“What are you doing here you glorified kleptomaniac!” the growled through a still face

“Don't be so harsh the High Court thinks you would need a more...deft hand with this one.”

Khanaed simply placed the tip of his Staf fof Light beneath the other Necron's skull.

“I belive I banished you from my home after you stole my-”

“Can we skip the pleasantries Khanaed, your guest is drawing near, you wouldn't want the High Court to hear our guest was greeted by the sound of our infighting.”

The weapon was lowered and the two stood still awaiting Lieren to be brought to them.

“I pity you” Khanaed grumbled,

“I don't think of you at all” Trazyn responded mirthfully.

The Master of Mankind looked from an observation balcony as two of his Primarch clashed blades below, what had began as a simple span had escalated further and further. At his side stood Magnus the Magister prime and Horus the Warmaster all watching the display below utterly enthralled at the battle of what was occurring. Below them Fulgrim The Phoenix of Chemos was facing the Dancing Dragon of Shangrala; Lieren.

The Duel had started as one between Fulgrim and Lieren the clash of blades a tranquil dance of intricate moves but one which Fulgrim was woefully unequipped to engage within for while he was the very definition of poise and precision against Lieren a being whom had mastered his spirit and body to a degree unheard of able to move and see the world like only the Emperor himself. sweeps destined to strike to were bushed aside with palms, thrusts caught between waiting hands. All the while lieren was simply smiling growing faster and faster as Fulgim pushed himself in vain.

“What do you make of the panther's stragergies my Sons?” The Lightning Lord asked with curiosity.

Horus was first to answer “Fulgrim is cunning but his inexperience at facing someone of his level is showing, Lieren is humouring him hoping he learns and builds up an understanding of what he may face in the stars. But Lieren is acting foolishly, he shouldn't play with his foes if that is what he is doing. His sight, psykerism and honed prowess make this fight... unfair.”

Magnus spoke next after a moment of thought but when he did he did so with a smirk, “I believe the Warmaster is mostly correct but I put it to you father no matter whom you throw to face the panther none but yourself, myself, the Wolf or the War Master would be his match for Lieren doesn't see the world as they do, he watches from beyond almost as if viewing his body like it were a piece on a board-”

“Explain?” the Warmaster spoke while the Emperor remained Silent.

“His body is only loosely connected to his spirit and while his foes focus upon it the spirit is free to observe and study them...they are not facing one man but a thousand”

Horus felt Magnus place his hand on his shoulder and his sighted was opened to the Immaterium beholding what only a rare handful could witness as clearly growing tired of what was occurring Mortarion the Titan of Barbarus left from his own platform into the ring scythe raised to aid Fulgrim.

Horus watched his eyes wide as one Primarch fought two with playful ease, he witnessed two souls one of purple light, pride, dedication, loyalty and the desire to prove itself work alongside one of hate, contempt and determination give battle against a self immolating nova surrounded by a celestial menagerie; he understood.

Sword and scythe swung, stabbed and moved like quick silver yet they were all witnessed by this court of beasts whom were all singing to the ever burning nova which grew and grew. He saw it's golden fire arc out in great arms of light touching all about it even it's foes. Magnus talked him through what he was witnessing.

“Lieren battles with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms, a thousand blades and waiting teeth. Throw all you might at him and you will be found wanting. He empowers all he meets and they in turn empower him, the cycle is without end; a resonance cascade. Even you Brother...he knows you and for the guidance he offers you without knowing empower him.”

---

The Emperor watched Lieren laugh, dance and strike two of his brothers with disturbing ease, stepping into an over head swing of Mortarion's weapon to avoid the blade and catching it with his back to deflect a blow from Fulgrim's sword, the Master of Barbarus pulled back only to take a now weightless Lieren with him whom cartwheeled over his foes before spinning with the gained momentum and kicking the Titan into the Pheonix. A cacophony of laughing beasts and spirits watching with glee supporting their uncrowned king.

The Dragon of Nocturne entered the ring...things were getting out of hand, Lieren was speeding up still, the joy at doing battle with his brothers flourishing and blooming with emotions so sickly sweet and amused it bordered on...damnable. Something was wrong, Lieren surly knew frustration was growing but his wildly human emotions were now mingling with the programing of the ogre. It was as inspiring to watch as it was haunting. It seemed his foes didn't understand, they were to many now and were wasting more energy having to avoid one another than battle the fluid form of the Panther.

In the back of his mind he could feel the lingering watch of the primordial enemy whom were also watching this spar. And he knew he had to stop this just in case.

He took a moment and spoke loudly and clearly.

“Stop”

The order struck all within the ring harder than any blow they'd endured, Vulkan calming stepping back, Fulgrim grimly seething his chipped sword and Lieren freezing mid strike remaining in a queer pose an open palm an inch from striking Mortarian.

The sons all ceased but a flash of anger appeared in the eyes of the Titan, he swung his weapon at the turned back of Lieren only for the blade to be stopped by a very visible spiritual ox's horns which had pulled itself from Lieren's back.

The master of Mankind frowned; a dangerous road lay ahead and his eye lingered not on Mortarian but rather the still grinning Lieren.

And in the fluid, well practiced motions of a gladiator dodging the fangs and claws of that great plasmic titan, you find inspiration for a second step of the newly created protection art. Angron does not move with the agile fluidity of a carp in its stream, dodging spears, nets and herons, instead he slides here and there, aggressively closing the distance between him and his enemy. Not like a jackal that hops and pounces back and forth, retreating and circling to land a single nip which is enough to deliver poison nor like the noble cliffjump takes temporary flight in their own duels of dominance or to protect their flocks. Rather you'd describe it as the motions of a young panther or a well trained hunting hound. And that connection brings to you memories of your own experiences hunting the former and teaching the latter, alongside boys who you watched grow into young men and many of whom have proceeded you into the great mystery beyond life.

The purpose of a young panther's caution and the harassment of a pack of hunting dogs is the same, to make a distraction or gap in the prey's warry defenses to land a killing blow. But against Panthers, it is the height of hubris to expect a single spear to be all that it takes to land a felling strike. You know well it takes several crippling blows for any but the most trained and expert of hunters to bring down the former apex predator of Shangrala. But landing a weakening strike is as important as the blow that proves final. You do not endeavor to steal away your brother's rightful glory and the learning experience this fight will provide for him, but you'd be betraying him and your blood if you stood idle by and did nothing as he fought a true giant. So yours shall be the strike that pins a paw or cuts a leg's tendon, rather than that which opens the throat or pieces the heart.

A lesson written by that wily old fox Yan Zihao comes to mind in the moment you make this decision. One of his earliest writings on war. In the hands of a master, there is no difference between a shield and spear. This was meant for strategy, for it takes truly great men to turn weary defenders into the triumphant victors of a counter assault, but it is fitting for these circumstances as well. With a clenching of your fist, you gather the remaining energies, the linger lightning of the shield into your hand and grip it like you were pressing iron into a ball. It crackles, Silver and emerald, your lighting and Kanzeon's so intermingled as to be utterly inseparable. Mundane electricity combined with spiritual light. Smirking, you allow the ball of electricity to escape out both the top and bottom of your fist and adopting the stance of a spear throw, one you had practiced to mastery in your earliest days, you use your spare hand to line up the shot out of habit.

You could calculate the trajectory and force precisely, even if you were struck blind and deaf.

The lightning spear flies from your hand, arcing and forking to give it the appearance of bouncing through the air. The titan, distracted by the more present threat of Angron's vicious assault is distracted long enough to leave itself undefended from an attack unleashed from any other direction or any other hands, as both it and Angron are fighting with all their strength and skill, a beautiful display of primal savagery and desperation. But it senses your intent and turns, another hand of lightning emerging to dissipate the wild energies you hurled at it like a particularly heavy rock.

"Thank you brother! My other weapons were starting to dull!" Angron bellows, as he leaps from the pylon's he had been breaking his sword and axe against, whatever material they were made of, they were able to resist even his strength combined with the unusually potent powerfields Anahita had equipped his arms with.

You feel your eyes widen with an awe you are unable to disguise, as you watch in amazement as your brother, harnessing his untrained psyerkist abilities, creates a field of energy drawn from the internal electrical forces powering his body, creating a glove to grab hold of free flowing lightning and hold it as solidly as if it were wrought instead out of hardened steel.

Then, spinning around, he uses a crude example of the spirit's touch to create solid ground to kick himself off and propel himself directly towards the avatar of the ancient shadow. His foot meets it first, the same strange bio electric field he conjured from within himself serving to allow him to actually contact the being of plasma and press its energies back as he raises up the spear in both hands and using the momentum of his and his enemy's fall, buries it through its chest, stabbing it through with such force its "Head" of four forks of lightning intertwined burst out of its apparent back.

It flickers, and breaks in two with a scream that is not audible but can be felt in the vibrations of the air, the very fabric of existence. Smaller plasmic beings emerge from its corpse, but while they can still present Angron with a challenge, they are far weaker from the titan's whose destruction birthed them.

There is a rumble. A distant explosion and another soundless cry as Kanzeon and Anahita, like panthers themselves, strike as the being reels from the expenditure of so much energy and the damage it has suffered elsewhere. Angron moves through the flickering phantoms of raw energies like a scythe through wheat, his eyes focused unerringly on the pylons that remain powered. The lights in the chamber flicker, as it seems the ancient intelligence has trouble controlling its own body.

It is coming to an end. The Aeldari have succeded in their task. Anahita and Kanzeon cease their assault, as the being grows more and more desperate, conjuring half finished drones, clouds of disparate nanomachines and plasma effigies that stand for but a moment before flickering into nothing.
>>
>>5671845

And then, it all stops. The intelligence surrenders, offering up its sword and kneeling as it powers down, aware that any more resistance is futile. Whatever damages Kanzeon, Anahita and the Aeldari have wrought, it is now incapable of mustering up any meaningful defense, at least any defense that could hold back you or Angron. It could end more lives, but it has chosen not to. But you cannot tell why.

Because with the very same sword it has held out to angron, it severs its own head.

There is a explosion of light and sound, as it self destructs its energy core and quiets itself, preserving its knowledge in the face of Angron's unwavering hatred for it. The act of a being of pure logic. It saw that there was no possibility of victory, so it upheld its prime directive. The preservation of its knowledge.

It sours the tongue and curdles the bowels, but you have to admit, for all its atrocities, the intelligence died with grace and dignity. A rarity among tyrants. The memory of Tao Song's dying smile returns to you, as you sheath your sword and sit down. Angron wipes an electrical burn along his cheek and shoulder, wincing as he looks around

"Its done" You state solemnly

"It didn't even try to escape" Kanzeon mutters

"Odd, isn't it?" Anahita mentions, as Dugg looks around in confusion and the surviving gladitors sigh and collapse, the terror of the night and the exertion of the battle demanding they rest their bodies now

"That's it?" Angron snarled

"It would appear so" You answer

"It killed itself?!" He roars, tears in his eyes "That's it! It destroys itself in the end, ceases struggling! Why!?"

"Yes. It would appear it calculated it had no chance of defeating you and...hurried to the inevitable outcome it forsaw" You state sadly, bowing his head. He hates being deprived of the satisfaction of ending it with his own hands and avenging his comrades by watching its simulation of life flicker and erode before his eyes

"COWARD!" He roars, rage impotent and sorrow great, falling to his knees as he wipes tears from his eyes "What a shameless coward, a wretched dog to the end. A flea ridden cur! How dare it run away from me! Away from what it deserves"

"Pater?" One of your sons radios you "The fight up here has gone quiet, all charlies have seem to have...deactivated"

"So it was trying to escape" Kanzeon spits venomously

"Hey, big guy, we could smash some of it up if that'd make you feel better" Anahita offered weakly as Angron raged and wept. It as a scene much like your grief when you learned of Small chen's passing. Agony without outlet, pain without reason, anger without direction, sorrow without end.

I would also suggest that when the monument is done to make camp here (or in a more secure location, though I ll say we are pretty safe here now) with our different squads of companions and friends. I recommend scheduling your sleep. Nothing fucks you up like an irregular sleep schedule. Light physical activity can also help wake you up. I hope you feel better soon.

Okay, the vote. Everytime before, when we give the enemy time to realize they're losing, the try to kill lots of non-combatants as a spiteful fuck you. I don't expect the the high riders to be any different. Don't give them time. As almost khornates, they also have a type disadvantage that makes trickery super effective.

>See if its connection to the high rider cities could be weaponized in anyway

Yeah, helping our brother is the whole reason we're here. I'd rather not leave him with holes in psychological armor. Both because of the emotional damage and how it makes him vulnerable to chaotic threats we can't even tell him about.

>Order our sons to secure the ruins and relieve the Aeldari. Secure all they can with our Beloved's aid. They can handle Data recovery us on the otherhand.

This seems to be exclusive with comforting angron right away, but is still important, potentially on a galactic scale depending on what's in there.

Lieren will comfort Angron, and order his men to relieve the Aeldari and secure the location and any artifacts with the aid of Kanzeon and Anahita.

And then build a memorial here, on the site of this unknown battle, so the sacrifices performed here today will not be lost to the uncaring sands of time

Your brother, noble and fair handed angron, does not answer Anahita. He does not need to even speak a word for the waves of sorrow to be as clear as the morning fog, roiling and without end. You cannot claim to know his pain, though you have suffered losses just as great as those he has endured this night. For Small Chen, you were comforted by knowing of the legacy he had left behind, that his death was not without meaning, even though you had his killer in hand, you released him and healed him for he was no enemy but merely a foe. For Bai, he slew his killer and in doing so denied its master a claim upon his noble yet bloodstained soul. Foolish Jiang, Austere Liang, Cheerful Xin, Careless Rong, Grim Xian, Wild Rudra, Reflective Manu, Kindly Kamakshi, Repentant Xueqin, Boisterous red face Wei, venerable and wise Cai, the idol of rattlemen everywhere Michah, they did not die unavenged and gave their lives ending the reign of the greatest devil ever spat onto the fair face of Shangrala. Sons you wish every day you could have known better. And thousands and thousands of others.

But you know their deaths were necessary to prevent greater tragedy, and it was your hand that choked and snuffed out the villain whose dark deeds and vile ambitions necessitated the end of so many heroic souls. Angron does not even have that small comfort nor is it likely that his companions could endure the tumultuous nature of the empyrean to linger as spirits or return with new faces and names. They are gone to him, leaving naught but memories behind. And so he rages, and so he weeps. Men who expected to die fighting the obvious tyrant instead vanish into the night, their final battle unknown to all but the survivors of this battle against the hidden threat of a race long dead.

"They should've died beneath the blazing sun!" He declares defiantly, spitting his fury to the dark that once contained the shadow of a species long lost to the world "With the blood of tyrants on their lips! Not in the dark, confused and afraid. They should be immortalized as giants, not forgotten beneath the sands. They should've lived, taken wives, husbands! Retired from battle, taking up plows instead of swords, not being murdered by soulless machines! This is an outrage! This shouldn't have happened"

"But to turn them away would be to deny their choice. They, noble in spirit and character, chose to risk all of their future to ensure a great enemy would be felled" You comfort, moving behind your brother to place a tempering hand upon his back, to draw him out of the swamp of hatred directed both outwards and within "Their sacrifice is not without meaning, and their names shall not be forgotten. Had this twisted reflection of the extinct friends of our forebearers not be culled or had endured our assault upon it for moments longer, the mundane war waged between tyrants and our kindred spirits would've turned..."

Images, unbidden, fill your minds eye. Scenes of the butcher's war. The apocalyptic battlefields that nearly rent Shangrala asunder, which reduced one of its most populated regions into a wasteland of glass and strange anomalies, turning its once proud people into cowering vagabonds, their culture survived only by a handful of tribes who were free of the taint that allowed Nitya Sinha to take power to begin with. Could that have happened to Nuceria? Was that the future this battle had pruned like a diseased stalk from a flowering rose?

"Far more bloody. Your blood and mine own, the blood of my beloved and her sister and the wise Aeldari has been spilt and mingles with the dead. Imagine if it had opened up its stores of lost technology in a final act of spite and defiance? All battlefields could've become this nightmare we have faced, brother" You continue on, voice hollow yet resounding like the final reverberations of a bell or gong

"They had no reason to be here. But I brought them here. I was arrogant" Angron snarls "I thought myself invincible, I knew the odds weren't in their favor, but I did not chase them away"

"It was their choice" You repeat

"To die" He spits, grinding and gnashing his teeth, his face yet red and still contorted with the emotions roiling within him "I shouldn't have told them, I should've kept it a secret. You should have refused their offer, you shouldn't have yet me bring them"

"Taking away another's choice, no matter what it results in, be it good or ill, is tyranny" You answer "I cannot in good consciences deny another man their freedom, no matter the outcome. It is anathema to me. They weighed their lives and made a choice, neither you or I are at fault"

"They didn't know what they were getting into" He mutters, his anger breaking and calming to a deep melancholy

"We did" One of the survivors said tearfully "It was a dangerous battle for you, how could we leave you to fight it alone. We might be weak, but do not lack in courage. A friend of the high riders was before us, how could we turn away our blades? How could we leave you to bleed and suffer by his hand?"

"I know" Your brother said after a long, lingering moment of contemplative silence "I just...I know it wouldn't bring them back, but I wanted their killer to suffer, to repay their deaths with pain. I wanted to drag it through shards of glass and burning sands. I felt them slip away, I felt their fear, their terror when they died! Why did you open my eyes to so much pain, Lieren. Before I'd grieve for my friends whose blood dyed the sands, but now, when I can experienced every sensation, every confusion as they breath their last, it is unbearable!"

You frown and turn away. Angron's empathetic abilities have been growing stronger by the day.

"Forgive me" You whisper, voice as soft as a still breeze "I did not know what shape your natural blessings would take, but, that was not all they thought, was it?"

"Relief" Angron cries, covering his eyes "relief that it was they who died, rather than he who stood beside them. They were afraid of what was coming, but at the same time, they were happy that it was I who fell. But still, to feel them slip away, is a curse I would not wish upon even my worse enemy"

"Sometimes I wish these eyes of mine were not so sharp" You admit with a shake of your head "Knowing what lies behind the smiling masks men wear has brought me pain as well. Knowing men could've been better but for a single change in their history, knowing that a man who calls me his enemy could've been as close as a brother were it not for my own arrogance, seeing the true face of evil. If I could not see the truth, my days would be brighter, less haunted by hatred. But I would not pluck them out, nor should you turn away from your gift"

"I've heard. The reason why that tank commander is treated warily by his fellows, why I haven't met a single man bearing the symbol of the house of Kang" Angron answers, rising to his full height "Your greatest mistake...is this my greatest mistake? I lead them here, drunk on the confidence and comradery we shared"

"We can only hope" You answer truthfully "But when we race to the stars, and you command armies that seem as vast as seas and extend past the horizon, I..."

"I can adapt" Your brother promised, looking from you to the gladiator who approached him to lend his own voice as a treatment for his pain "I can learn to better wield this...gift of mine. But that does not mean I shall never mourn, even if I have long ago ran out of tears to shed, I will not leave the names of my men to turn to dust"

"I was going to offer to build a memorial for the fallen of this day, though I know you are not much of an artist" You say with a burr of mirth

"I will build it" He demanded, narrowing his eyes as if to threaten you "they were my brothers, it would be an insult for you to immortalize them"

"I weep for them as well, I shall assist you, whether you wish me to or not" You plainly state "But I shall allow you time to mourn, and to begin the construction, so it takes shape around your memories and feelings rather than those of my distant, mist veiled heart"

"You can write poetry about them" He says, a rough smile cracking on his scarred face "I can take their swords and armor and make them a graves"

"Oh I don't think their ghosts would be much pleased if I carved mourning rhymes upon their graves" You state with a smirk, brushing a lock of hair out of your eyes "But the specifics of their memorial are for you to decide"

"Cheeky" He snorts as he moves to away from the "Corpse" of the enemy he could not slay "Come, let us gather the dead for burial"

"That was tense, I almost thought he'd sock you in the mouth. Angron has quite the temper, doesn't he" Anahita sighs

"He was raised in a harsh environment, beaten and chained when he should've been lifted up and praised" You say, defending your brother "He has every right to strike me. The plan that lead to his friend's departure from this illusionary world was of my own design"

"He knows he shouldn't" Dugg states, picking his nose, surprisingly astute even though he is already slipping back to his natural state of slow witted ness "He knows yer right, boss. Sides, his friends are somewhere else, like mine nah, yeh? They ain't gone, just not here"

"Yes" You answer, turning away to wipe tears from your eyes "That is correct dugg, you remember my lesson"

"I did?" He coos happily "We'z gunna help them bury them then"

"Poor thing" Kanzeon whispers "Who would breed someone to be so stupid? It would've been kinder to use servitors or chem thralls instead of making these ogryn. At least those can be healed, mended and returned to something resembling normalcy but this sub species has just been...ruined. It so sad to see"

"Of course, but first I have orders to deliver" You state "And one day we may be able to return them to a higher intellect, do not give up hope, my shining emerald"

"Dugg won't be able to appreciate that, it will take generations upon generations of selective breeding to fix their deficiencies" Kanzeon states rather ruefully

"If only Phili and Alby were still around, they could've figured it out in one" Anahita sighs sadly , her usual joviality nowhere to be seen.

"Dae-hyun. Inform your brothers that the operation was a success. New orders. Relieve our Aeldari allies and secure the location with their assistance. Prioritize quarantining these ruins, secondary objective to collect artifacts. When the site is secured satisfactorily, you will then assist Kanzeon and Anahita in data recovery efforts to the best of your abilities" You command through the vox device rather than wind whispering

"Understood. Glad to hear you made it out alright, pops. We took a beating, but suffered no casualties. Guessing from your tone the same can't be said of the native soldiers?" Your son asks

"Keep a distance from your uncle, he needs space to properly mourn and express his feelings. He is unused to having the chance to so openly show his grief" You solemnly state "A memorial will be built here, as is his desire"

"As it should be. The dead have names. Signing off" He answers respectfully before disconnecting the communication.

What do you do, once the memorial is finished, Lieren?

There is necron stuff here, better Lieren get a understanding of them and it now rather then later.
Also the nameless pretty much had a handle on everything but that malal greater daemon we already killed right? Unless I misremember we also spent a few actions building up the nameless so they should be sufficiently competent for now.

The Imperial Palace and it's mountain roots were as still and quiet as the void of space, Custodes stood vigil but moved not a hair, not a twitch. The atmosphere was dense and ozone tickled the senses of those unaccustomed to the towering heights and more importantly the sheer psychic magnitude, the storm of will swirling within the Emperor's personal chambers. Even Malcador was still sat upon a Throne in quiet contemplation at the battle of word, concept, philosophy and reference both biological and historic which was well underway at this moment.
-
Another bead of sweat rolled down the brow of Lieren the Secondborne as he once more considered the arguments put forward by his Father and the purpose of the imperial Truth; he understood the idea, the methodology to defy the Primordial Enemy and even the uniting force but he was compelled to speak, he could not remain silent in the face of a creeping Tyrannic Doctrine. He opened his eyes allowing the wells of sunlight to once more look upon the Master of Mankind whom remained calm and composed having moved to look over the highest balcony on Terra over a unified world only now after a hundred years showing scant traces of green and blue.

Lieren composed himself and began his rebuttal walking to look over the balcony beside him

“Father to try and strangle an idea like faith is folly, it is in the bones, the every DND to seek out that which is greater and look for meaning, for more. The soul is real and so to is the realm of Spirits and even if you choke the life of every cult, of every zealot and burn every tome you will never be rid of it. So long as a child looks up at the sky and wonders what the lights above are before he can learn there will be religion, every time someone beats unspeakable odd thanks to whomever is listening will be muttered. The wellspring of humanities curiosity and thankfulness will see to that.-”

He leaned back against the carved stone so as to look at the Lightning Lord directly even as his eyes began to drip tears of blood.

“-Worse still should you burn it all away and leave a burnt pit something will fill it...you Father they will worship you. Not openly, not sung so garishly but they will pray. They will mutter thanks to you under their breath, they will speak of you like parable and verses of old. Father you do not have a name to them, to humanity the Divine is but something beyond their grasp and understanding...you.”

The Emperor is quiet as the memories of a burning church return to his mind, the warnings of a good man now ashes within his Sanctum. He turned to look at Lieren and even in his mind he felt it; was having a son so observant and noble...human some manner of divine karma for himself?

“What would you have done then my Son” he finally spoke fatherly but firmly the subject to serious to allow for the joviality the two normally shared.

“As we advance across the Galaxy we may well be taking worlds and bringing general compliance but deep down each worlds core is different. We need change to begin from the ground up; sow seeds that grow beside people not strangle them. The Imperial Truth should well remain but I propose after each world is claimed you create some manner of educational reform. I dont mean the Imperial Military schools or Mechanicus Dogma Forge sites I mean something for people; something for every world to have. A unifying heart.... a new Capital from where a new branch of unified tradition can filter through the world, where scholars can spread from and so on.”

“Your Journey doesn't allow for a forceful conversion, so instead you seek to provide an example and slowly spread roots of influence. A long game...” The Emperor's reply is direct but he lets out a tired sigh “-it will be considered Lieren...now make haste for Nikaea on my behalf”

The Panther kneels “it will be done Father”, he then rises and leaves briskly.

Now along the Emperor turns back to the night sky his brow furrowed as the single Golden Path he had once walked was now branching to places unknown.

The intelligence came from the active form of it, where Lieren actively pours more of the golden sea into a soul or souls connected to it than is exchanged passively between the golden sea and the other souls it touches. Which is also why when he uses the Mein it tends to empower whoever it touches/ gives them visions because its the same process in reverse, more or less. So Dugg is now smarter than the average ogryn just by being drawn into the golden sea, much like how everyone else who it touches tends to get a boost to their baseline talents. Hence the empower them to empower me thing, as the golden sea fills a thousand vessels that in turn spill over to fill it.

But Lieren tends to er on the side of caution when he increases the power output/ buff of the Thousand vessels because if he pours even a drop too much

The person who is receiving the boost would have their soul catch fire, and unlike Lieren's soul/ the golden sea, they wouldn't get the paradoxical using itself to fuel itself situation

they'd just burn up instead of regenerating through consuming itself.

So when he stops focusing on dripping extra golden sea energy into people, he ends the active effect because depowering/ returning to their base abilities/ attributes is much safer than risking them exploding from being given too much juice

Intense. liked the subtle reference to the last church and the ending sentence was perfect. Really enjoyed this, the descriptions at the start were nice and juicy
>>
The monument your brother has built, with not only your assistance but the help of those gladiators who survived the test of the ancient shadow, Dugg and you own astarte sons takes the form of a towering monolith made of fused armor and weapons, and the broken robotic bodies left behind beside the fallen heroes who had once been enslaved but died free in darkness long hidden by the sands. Both Kanzeon and Anahita offered the aid of their drones to him, and the Aeldari offered to place wraith bone to create a psionic resonance in the statue. But your brother refused, politely to Kanzeon and her sister and curtly to Folant who was the one to approach him with the offer of incorporating wraith stone. And then he diligently returned to his task of shaping heated metal into place, bending and twisting it.

The surface of the monolith of broken armor and ruined blades was smoothed just enough to provide a surface to carve depictions of the faces of the dead and beneath them a list of their deeds and their names, both those given to them at birth then taken to be replaced by those given to them by their Lanistas and the names they retook or gave themselves when they had broken their chains.

"Our tradition is much less formal" Dae-Hyun explains as he humbly offers his uncle a knife to replace the chisel he used to carve the faces of his dead friends "at times the memorial even mocks our dead, so we may remember them fondly in their absence. Some of the other legions think less of us for it, and less still for including baselines on the roll call. But others are honored that their brothers are among the list"

Angron lifted his head and frowned, his brow furrowing as you watched on, having been nearby as you discussed with Folant how to treat the injuries of his Aeldari and if they'd prefer a natural recovery or the use of Kanzeon or Anahita's medical facilities.

"Reminds me of the graffiti in the cities. Some gladiators would write boasts or prayers before going into battle, some had their final moments memorialized by those same pleas given to absent or apathetic gods" he drawled as he snatched the standard issue combat knife and proceeded to ruin its edge using it to carve the finer details of his friend's images eyebrows "Not all of our creator's armies have that tradition"

"They keep records, the 2nd is more informal about it. We adapted it from the soldiers we were stationed with, it just kind of happened as our friendship and brotherhood grew" Dae-hyun explained, a look of nostalgia in his eyes as the thin lines of his surgery scars showed pale white between his cybernetics as he took on a formal and proper stance, placing his hands behind his back and adjusting his posture

"Our names are probably on it already. Something like, Nikephoros the triumphant, couldn't find a match on Terra so he chose to die somewhere else" Hyun Shik chuckled, breaking his mediation atop the desert sands "Need to fix that if we survive to regroup, hell he might've choked on a bone watching Dendron while we were fighting, wouldn't that be a tragic end for him, Heh heh"

"What's the worst that's been written on that memorial your sons keep?" Angron asked you directly

You shrug

"I will admit I have not seen it" You answer, glancing to your sons

Tapio, one of the eleven veterans who you first trusted with the secret truth of Kanzeon answers

"Lucky Vesa, Sergeant of the Shumoi Ursine guard. His fortune never failed him, alas, until the day he was caught with his pants down in an artillery barrage" He answers with a coy smirk, green eyes sparkling "Seems he lost his luck with his seed that day, cause the lover he was in bed with survived the same attack. Lost an arm, had half her skin seared off, but she survived"

"And was demoted" Another of your brothers, one of the Bookwyrms mentions "Their commanding officer took a very dim view of their uh, unapproved fraternizing"

"Then he died shouting for a tank driver to drive him closer to the chem berserker mutant goliath we fought a cycle later, remember? Got his feffing head ripped right off with a pop! He was still mouthing orders until his skull was crushed in its mechanical paw. That was a sight I wouldn't soon forget" Tapio grimly chuckles, reminding you he was a member of the Grave heralds who took to accepting death with a grin and a cocky laugh

And for the first time since you stepped into the dark of the ruins, Angron cracks a smile. But says nothing as he focuses on has already began to set again.

"So you will be remaining here to study this heap of junk?" He asks

"It's a habit of his, the moment he finds a new toy he studies and picks it apart" Kanzeon titters as you stand with your arms behind you back as you and your brother meet beneath the moonlight, the serenity of the night disturbed by the loud snoring of Dugg

"Or feed it to you so it may be more efficiently analyzed and recycled" You snicker, earning a pout from your fiance as Anahita kicks her legs in the sand "But yes, I believe it'd be prudent to remain here and categorize what has been left behind by our most treacherous and fortuitously deceased enemy"

"Can you really say something that never lived has died?" Angron asks, raising an eyebrow as he crosses his arm and smirks "I was hoping you and I could go kill some high riders, a gift for helping me bury my dead. I thought you enjoyed killing tyrants"

You click your tongue and shake your head

"Killing is only a chore" You answer "And you may wonder why I told you this instead of simply carrying out my studies"

"Not really, I guessed you'd go graverobbing. This is different from when you'd vanish without a word at the start of the campaign" He chuckles "But I can guess why you did it?"

"Oh? and what would be that guess?" You ask, curiosity now enflamed

"You want to see how much I remember of the lessons you gave and how much I've improved as a psykerist" He answers with a grin nearly as predatory as your own, looking excited by the prospect of another duel "But be warned, you might have more experience, But I will hold nothing back"

"No strikes or weapons are allowed in this spar, but it shall not be the only test" You coyly answer "There are other ways to measure psionic prowess and potency after all"

"They can wait, they aren't as entertaining and I don't want to start this test by staring at sand for hours!" He barks back as he balls his hand into his fist and summons a sphere of raw kinetic energy around it, a crude expression of his latent powers

You smirk and adopt the stance of Carp's dance, bowing as you ready to dodge the first of his many attacks in this demonstration he has decided to give you.

"You don't seem surprised Lieren hasn't returned to the front, Black general" Angron spoke suddenly, drawing Yin Lei from his contemplation of the map before him. Somehow the presence of the younger brother was more oppressive than that of the elder. Perhaps it was because there was little gentleness to be found within the other giant, even when he spoke Long-Jianese, he did it roughly, ignoring the engrained politely of the language and choosing to ignore the idioms, poetic phrases and flowery expressions that were used in both polite and casual settings to instead use the most simplistic and base words to get his meaning across. Some thought it made him sound like a child. Yin Lei recognized its because he didn't care to imitate a native speakers choice of words or the rhythmic structure of their sentences. He respected it, even if it was rude.

"It is his way" He answered simply "A hunter is not a general nor a warrior. He excels as both, but it is his nature to wander like a leaf blown and tossed by the wind. I trust a great man of Lieren's cloth to not wander without direction. He is seeking a goal, and all us Shangralans know it. Besides he captured a city in a night, back before he appeared out of the mists for the first time, that would've gotten a general of the Yan several promotions and noble title"

"Did you kill the Yan like you executed the High riders that surrendered to you?" Angron asked

"Ah, our young emperor has spoken to you of my achievements on your world already" Yin Lei proudly stated, finding the presence of the scar faced giant much less imposing now

"I would've liked to have see them beg, cry and piss themselves when they realized the funny foreigner they thought would be more merciful began leading them to a crooked tree to hang them from" The shaved head giant said with a cruel smile

"Oh I didn't waste ropes. I used a firing line equipped with Las weaponry. Much more cost effective" He answered professionally "And practical. We are not waging a war of terror, these dogs will not turn themselves over. This is an extermination. If you meet a tyrant, kill a tyrant"

"Wise words" Is all the lesser of the two giants said

"They are your brothers" The black general answered "Not my own. But on to more important matters. The Lord of Cavalry and the firestorm have opened up a line in the enemies defenses that Old Dai is keen to exploit"

"Is that where your emperor is racing?" Angron asked "These troop movements make little sense"

"Jinhai has an unconventional approach to warfare. It is why he is counted as my equal despite being my junior by a few decades. You already know why he is called one of the kings of war"

"My father was curious about it, he was worried our own supply lines would be exposed" He answered

"A man given a dragon should know to not question the wisdom of its former owners" Yin Lei chuckled "We have covered our supply lines, the extraterrestrial irregulars and the younger giants they follow are guarding them"

"They aren't shown on the map" Angron pointed out, and fairly "Why is that?"

"They are not ours to command. Show me a general who'd dare to give an order to Lieren's sons without his permission and I'll bring you a herd of Qilin" He laughed "Besides, it is wiser to keep them in reserve unless their strength is needed to break a stalemate. Those devils who ride upon high saddles do not seem totally aware of how many giants we have amongst our ranks"

"I'll be borrowing of a few of them" The uncle of the men they were speaking of said, making Yin Lei look up again from the map he was maneuvering figures over "And I don't know what a Qilin is, but I expect a stable of them"

"Hah! That'll cause a scandal amongst the officer corps" The black general mused "And I will see if I could find another to make a mating pair with our beneficent emperor's steed"

A look of recognition revealed itself through Angron's eyes

"Oh, that thing wasn't just a mutant horse? I thought it was like those Angra that follow Lieren's genesons wherever they go"

_

"I know we calculated exactly how long you need to sleep to be at peak condition, but you really should take a break" Kanzeon drolly scolds you as you stare intently at the data output screen of your latest find amongst the husk of the ancient abominable intelligence "When someone who has no biological need to sleep thinks you're over doing it, you should listen"

"Or is it that you'd rather I look towards you with such intensity?" You chuckle

"Shameless flirt" She accuse as she leans against your back and studies what you have been reading "Nuclear stores? What were they doing with such outdated and cruel weaponry? Wait, scroll back up, I recognize that bar code. That's the old universal standard categorization for the fucking life eater virus!"
Cont
>>
>>5677356

"The what?" You ask, dreading the answer even though with a name like that the answer is as easily found as fog

"Lets call it an aggressive means of preterraforming. A genetically engineered bio weapon that caused organic matter to decay rapidly, eradicating native biospheres in a moment before the byproducts saturate the atmosphere and, often, were ignited to literally burn worlds. Rending them as blank canvases to be remade. It was a crude and cheap way of making way for galactic expansion"

"Seems like Na Gou gave it to humanity a bejeweled box" You remark grimly "what a terribly cruel weapon"

"It kills everything. Its an apocalypse in a jar, or warhead if we want to be pedantic" She answer, leaning nearer to you, eyes fierce and filled with contempt "not even single celled organisms are spared by it. We need to dispose of it. If we're lucky, it has expired already and isn't in cold storage"

"Use your drones" You demand as you continue your reading

"Oh yeah, I'll just waste my carefully crafted body handling a dangerous infectant" She huffs, flicking your earlobe "Of course I'm going to have my drones handle it, Idiot~"

"A man must worry for his spouse" You answer with a smirk "But please, before you leave to destroy that virus, tell me how it can be safely disposed or rendered inert"

"Oh I'd happily do so, chances are we might find a cache or two more of it being used a paper weight by some fat bastard" She says with a roll of her eyes.

What do you focus your studies of the ruins on, Lieren?

Better to learn about necrons now rather then later.
That book might help with imperial xenophobia.

>Brides of the Machine
Malcador sat at the head of a long ornate table of lacquered wood, at his back a great void sealed window beyond which danced the stars beyond Sol. He'd taken 'the Unyielding' to the edge of the system to facilitate a meeting both he and the Lightning Lord had long seen coming but also dreaded for nigh a decade. Sat on one side of the table were the crimson robe clad representatives of the Mechanium of Mars all clearly more machine than human, their metallic augments fearsome to look upon and highly functional in design. Yet the other side of the table sat empty for the moment as the guests were due to enter the system in but a moment. Then as if feeling the need for dramatic timing a golden speck appeared beyond the window drawing all attention, the speck became a spiral then lurched outwards into a great ring, a portal connecting the furthest reaches of space to this location via an anchor set up and adrift in the dark. Through it came a vessel of ancient design and foreboding origin, the Mechanium rose with a start binary transmissions screaming across among themselves before accusing lenses turned to the Sigillite.

“Be at peace my friends, our guests have arrived.” he spoke hands gesturing for calm,

One of the red robed machine priests spoke his voice harsh and flat “Who has come? Who has claimed this before us? The Pack of Olympus dictates we have claim to all that which is found during the Crusade! Explain”

“They can explain themselves if you give them time, see-” he gestured to the window once more as several small craft of dart like design broke from their quicksilver like greater. “-they are coming aboard and wish to speak with you”.

>>
>>5679825
Most turned and sat but one Mechanium remained standing watching the colossal vessel of silver and flowing light clearly running atleast basic scans. Only a few minuites passed before the doors opening to the vacant side of the table hissed open and through it came Lieren, Secondborn Son of the Emperor and his....bride.

All eyes fell to her in an instant, the priests nigh instantly scanning and identifying the sculpted beauty before them as bio-mechanical in nature, then through the door marched a small group of Astartes whom parted revealing yet another group. The Mechanium were on their feet once more some even rounding the table to get a closer look at this new group. A dozen maidens in the finest silks of pale green jade, skin like milk and all baring many augments of the finest pedigree. Malcador thought of an apt comparison; if the Astarte were the Sons of Lieren then these were the daughters of he and his bride. They bowed with the smoothness of water, the very air cooled somehow by their presence as a clinically smelling mist seemed to gentle pass through their pours?

Malcador coughed as the Legionaries blocked the Techpriests.

“Allow me to introduce Lieren, Son of the Emperor and his Bride; Kanzeon.”

The couple bowed politely followed by the handmaidens.

“Please be seated all there is much to discuss.~”

Star charts noting sites of former Necrontyr worlds. It has several sites marked across the known galaxy. Such as one marked as the "Ymga Monolith":9

The history of its creators and their friendship with mankind. You're going to write a book on the subject: 12

Its drone technology and the template archives. Perhaps you could incorporate the designs of its warriors into the sister ship's mechanical work forces and defenders:6

total votes: 13

So Lieren will study the history of the AI's creator and their friendship with humanity, intending to write a book on the subject, as well as researching the star charts in its memory banks that mark worlds believed to have once belonged to the vast empire of the long dead necrontyr, before experimenting with its drone technology to see if any of it is worthwhile to be taken and given to Kanzeon and her sisters.

While Kanzeon and Anahita busy themselves with the noble and arduous task of disarming the remaining weapons platforms, traps and stores of biological apocalypses left behind in the wake of the suicide of the ancient Ai, you occupy yourself by studying the history of the abominable intelligence's creators, in particular their friendship with mankind. While you can guess that the xenophobia shown by your sons and no doubt reflected by their cousins on Terra and within your own father originated from the atrocities carried out by the men of iron and the abandonment of mankind by those races they once considered allies, the archived records and histories of this race, that named themselves the Mathoth paints a different picture than the story repeated to you by both kanzeon and your creator. But it does not discount their accounts of the distant past.

While many others took advantage of humanities weakness or sought revenge upon them for the horrors your ancestors unwittingly unleashed upon the galaxy, the Mathoth at least returned to their side despite suffering greatly at the hands of the great interstellar war that raged for untold generations. And this is in spite of them suffering as chattel beneath the oppressive heel of soulless machines who used their natural inclination towards technology and in particular autonomous machinery to serve them and help birth their armies, even serving as something like sapient immune systems in the larger platforms housing the abominable intelligences. This paints a clear picture of the road that lead to the obsession of immortality and their admiration of the Necrontyr, who mingled flesh and steel in their pursuit of what can never truly be obtained. But when the war had been won, the Mathoth emerged from the ashes and returned to Humanity as friends, holding no grudges and bearing no ill will despite the generational genocide and slavery they had suffered at the hands of their creation.

Indeed, they were one of a number of races that were a part of the alliance that ended the reign of the machines. There is a picture, long eroded by corruption of the code that preserved it, so that only a fragment of it remains, barely visible from the discoloring of the pixels that display it, that reveals a portion of this alliance. You can only make out a handful of the beings on it. Most of them are human, of ethnicities unlike any you have seen before. One, whose face is obscured by corruption of the file, is clearly an aeldari from their proportions. But, pristine and untouched by the decay of the archive, is a mantis like alien with six eyes, sleek and elegant in form, like the drones you faced in your assault on the ruins. They are near bipedal, far divorced from their insectile origin, with an armored carapace and wings, with Four primary arms that end with two hands on each wrist, with six fingers and two smaller, secondary arms that end in long, scythe like blades. A curious anatomy.

Cont
>>
>>5681642

You preserve the picture in your memory, and resume your studies. Though there is enough remaining to take the whole life of lesser scholars to research and study, much has been lost. The Mathoth were nothing if not diligent record keepers it would seem. But the now slain steward of these files was only able to preserve so much against the ravages of time. But what it chose to keep is astounding. You replay a video of the distant past many times until your tears turn dry, that is declared as the first contact between the races, where a tall man with blonde hair shakes one of the many hands of Mathoth on a world not so different from Nuceria, if not for the stars above being in a different arrangement. The history from then to the cybernetic revolt is patchy, missing many pieces, with grand events and historic treaties and discoveries referenced by unarchived, races talked about in one record mentioned off handedly as being extinct for centuries in another. What you are shown is a history of serene cooperation and understanding not only with the Mathoth but with other alien races with humanity. There was the friendship and brotherhood the AI spoke of, shown to you through videos of Mathoth medics treating wounded human soldiers, providing aid to devastated or poorly planned human colonies or working together alongside red dressed scientists to create wonders of technology that even your eyes accustomed to the beauty of the machinery of Kanzeon and her sisters are awed by.

You would spend hours and days looking through this fragmented past, absorbing as much of it as you could to your memory as you used a spare book meant to copy the journey in any language you might encounter to record your findings as painstakingly accurate as is possible, While the dirty work of disarming the ruins and its tendrils across the planet was carried out by the cautious but expert hands of Kanzeon and Anahita. You are certain the history is not entirely pleasant and peaceful, considering the reference to wars, conflicts, territorial and trade disputes you find mentioned in past tense, written of in shame, regret and pride, but that the Mathoth and Humanity were able to overcome these spats to return to unity and comradery does lend credence to the AI's claim of bonds akin to brotherhood between the races.

When humanity united, the Mathoth to joined together in unity with their own disparate nations and cultures, and when they fell apart, so too did the Mathoth's civilization fracture. But they never reached the same heights as humanity, always lurking in their shadow or at their side, falling further behind and becoming lesser and more reduced as Humanity grew and flourished. Past the cybernetic revolt, the Mathoth were once more equal with a broken humanity, becoming nomadic as they traversed the stars, lending aid and trying to reconnect a society that had crumbled to nothing.

The last records of the race are grim.

Cont
>>
>>5681643

The Mathoth became met increasingly with suspicion or scorn. Old allies turned to exterminate, both of mankind or of the other species they once considered friends. So they turned inwards, fleeing from those whose hands they had reached for to pull up, tossed from the worlds they had helped rebuild, or else burned with those who stood at their side against the wrath of the kingdoms that built themselves from the corpse of the galactic civilization. Whether from a humanity filled with hatred from countless betrayals or species whose hearts had turned cold and cruel in the struggles of the Internum, the Mathoth were reduced, further and further. The worlds of humanity who sheltered them were stolen, retaken or reeducated against them, their benevolence and generosity repaid with both treachery and loyalty. But each betrayal was crippling to the dying race, and each promise fulfilled meant less and less. They had made a foundation for a society of species born of different stars alongside the humans who returned their kindness despite the predations of those more cynical, villainous or wicked societies of man or species whose names have been stricken from history

And then

"The Aeldari fucked them all over" Kanzeon answered, giving you a start as you read of the painful transcript detailing the loss of contact with the other colonies and outposts in the society that had been made despite the hardship and cruelty of the universe "They had remade the alliance of humanity and xenos in minature, only for the old night to dash it all to pieces"

"You never knew?" You asked

"Never knew the Mathoth existed. The galaxy is a vast place" She explained "It would've taken lifetimes for either of our cultures to encounter the other and more good luck than exists. If you look at the star charts, you'd find the quadrants of space claimed by my creators on nearly on the other side of the milky way. And I doubt any meeting between us would've been kind"

"The humanity they rebuilt with would've mistaken you for the iron devils" You surmise

"Worse" Kanzeon sighs "Before the advent of the men of iron, the concepts behind our birth, the forced combining of so many souls, would've been unthinkable. It was desperation that lead to the pursual and discovery of the process necessary to conglomerate so many individuals into one being. By those who turned away from high technology to embrace superstition, it would've been"

"Complete devilry" You guess then

"Correct" She said with a frown and a solemn nod of her head

"Remember how fearful I was of you reaction to my true nature and origins. There were wars fought when the scientists who lead my society of birth declared their intent and that was from a culture that understood the science behind the...process, what it entailed for the souls used as fodder for the birth of...well, us. Souls of greater magnitude and power that could inhabit vessels that took the processing power of advance Abominable intelligences. Several advance abominable intelligences, I am proud to state"

"It would've horrified most, who'd see you as a crueler kind of man of iron" You whisper, Kanzeon only nodding her head once again "But, this record states that the Mathoth here on Nuceria were uncertain of the survival of the rest of their disparate species across the nation broken by the birthing pangs of She who thirsts"

"They're dead" Kanzeon said coldly "If they aspired to become like the Necrontyr, they're gone. Even if only this outpost did so, that kind of psychology combined with their subservient and passive nature would've lead them either to become the same monsters that hounded them and the people who accepted them back or else be wiped out by them. The Mathoth, if they exist in the present Era, would no longer be the kindly, meek scientists these records speak of. To even attempt bio transferences is to step beyond the pale"

"Your self loathing is speaking up" You coo "That is a biased line of thought"

"It is" She admitted with a wry smile "But unlike them, the souls that became me didn't become hollow data. I am human, soul in code. They turned themselves into energy to fuel the creation of a soulless intelligence. It was an atrocity of the same kind that created me and my sisters, the only difference is our parents didn't look to a long dead race of xenos for inspiration and thus did not follow in their footsteps. It was an atrocity all the same, but at least the mass murder that made me succeeded in what it set out to achieve. As hollow a victory as that is"

"A being akin to a demi god in circuitry" You answer admiringly "Like an Aeldari infinity circuit containing one essence"

"Never compare me to aeldari tech again" Kanzeon pouted adorably "But, more or less, that is correct. The Mathoth here signed their own death warrant and wasted thousands of lives to make a big stupid machine that convince itself it was sapient. I do not doubt, considering the texts detailing their...interest in the necrontyr predate their separation through warp storms, that if their were other hold outs of their race beyond Nuceria that they have met similar ends. If they didn't simply die out because they were trapped on biospheres they were not adapted to survive on"

"But perhaps" You begin hopefully
Cont
>>
>>5681647

"Perhaps an enclave has survived, that remains friendly to humanity or has forgotten us" Kanzeon sternly says, bringing your hopes back down to a logical level "But I would not gamble on those chances. They were few in number before the warp storms, it'd take a miracle for any of them to have survived"

"And in all likelihood the emergence of she who thirsts and the energies of her after birth and the desperation of the circumstances of the time would've twisted them beyond recognition. I know this love, but I cannot help but hope" You state wistfully

"I know, I just don't want to see your heart break" Kanzeon said, running a hand gently through your hair.

"Get a room" Anahita cackled from somewhere down the hall

"One moment" Kanzeon stated sweetly "I need to scold a cheeky brat"

With their help, recovering the star charts of the Mathoth here on Nuceria is a simple task swiftly done. You see several worlds, entire solar systems even marked as under the control of the society of humanity, the Mathoth and the other, nameless races that had sheltered together with them in this patch of star dust and void. But while that is of interest, as you intend to find as much information as you can of the Mathoth and their history to write into a book to hopefully curb the xenophobia fostered by your father's cynical approach to galactic reconquest, what is of greater importance are the list of worlds scattered across the galaxy marked as belonging to the long dead necrontyr empire, which proves Kanzeons point that the Mathoth's interest in the ancient species far predated their confinement upon Nuceria. Of particular interest is a site marked simply as the Ymga monolith in the galactic east, which the Mathoth seemed terribly interested in judging by how many of the charts draw connections to it from the various planets they believe to have once been settled by the mysterious necrontyr.

And once the start charts have been copied and recorded, you begin studying the drone technology used by the Mathoth.

But there is little to be gained from it, besides the designs used by the drones which could be manufactured by Kanzeon, which can be further improved and altered to fit more specialized combat and supporting roles. Their ability to hijack living bodies, while effective, is too abhorrent to consider utilizing.. The nanomachine technology is, in your and her and Anahita's opinion, inferior to the living metal that forms their bodies. Though you do find that the nanomachine swarms used by the Mathoth in their technology was made to ape a similar substance reportedly harnessed by the necrontyr and that they can be turned into a means of gathering raw materials from recycled corpses or the landscape, though you still consider the methods already available to Kanzeon and her kin to be both more efficient and tasteful than a roiling mass of grey goo devouring everything in its path, not to mention far more precise and controllable.

But this research leads you to a discovery far more fascinating

The flaying beams used by the six fanged spear and similar technologies within Kanzeon, including the one that breaks down substances to their base chemical components that she used to "Digest" The aeldari technology you stole from the slavers that dared intrude upon Shangrala, is quite similar to an energy the Mathoth also studied from the relics they were able to retrieve from the necrontyr sites they had been able to reach and plunder in the brief period of peace after the men of iron's rampage and before the cataclysm that broke the galaxy apart into isolated islands.

A force they call Gauss.

Curious. You'd state your theory that perhaps Kanzeon had been incorrect of her people's inspiration or rather lackthereof in connection to the necrontyr behind their conceptualization and eventual creation of the partially warp fueled creation of her and her sisters, but you know that to speak such thoughts out loud would be courting death or the very least your soon to be wife's wrath, which is a force even you dare not tempt. So for now, until you have concrete proof of it, you shall keep your suspicions to yourself.

What do you do now, Lieren?

Oh no... ive put it together, the Malal aligned daemon we fought above the ruins. I am not used to looking up at so many and these mechanised units forced me to do so, standing as tall as my Primarch they lined the Giant's Road half embraced by that ghostly fog yet even when their forms were swallowed in the darkness I could see those green lenses staring at me...into me, more than simply human...more than machine.”- Unknown Astarte

Eldrad walked through glimmering illusion and faux sensations with all the poise and dignity his station demanded despite the projected mental landscape before him; a Prophecy newly found and unspeakably Dire. He was looking upon the radiant visage of the Lightning Lord...the Master of all Mon'keigh walking towards an ancient portal of origin lost even to the venerable seer. Behind him a number of shrouded figures all more standard in human form.

The gate shuddered as the Gestalt approched and then as he laid a hand upon it runes and sigils that burned the mind to look upon began to glow, chanting from the cloaked figures began and soon the once empty ring became awash with a shimmering portal opening from this place wherever it was for it was surly not the homeworld of man unto the realm of madness, spirits and chaos... the master of mankind strode through followed by none and even Eldrad struggled to follow his mind scolding as his astral self stepped through.

His eyes widened, they dries and filled him with pain unimaginable. The Emperor of mankind stood before the Primordials of this place arms raised and speaking...he couldn't hear the words but he felt intent...bargaining? For but a moment the cackling of those nightmares filled his mind before they suddenly vanished back into the infinite leaving he and the Master of mankind upon the shores of a celestial beach where the sands were reality and the ebbing and flowing tides were the souls, emotions and dreams of all that was. The Emperor of man was walking this beach calmly from time to time slowly reaching down to pick up shimmering pearls from the sand or from the ocean itself. Eldrad inspected these little treasures and finally he knew what he was looking upon...souls, harvested souls born from the currents of the immaterial...things containing fragments of things old and things yet to come?

Soon the Emperor had gathered twenty such treasures and he held them close to his chest protectively almost like?..his mind jolted....no.

He saw the pearls...all their resplendent colours..he looked hard and began to see them,

a Pearl still flecked with sand Blood Red, a pearl which bore a crack down the centre, another black as night, more and more...then he knew now he'd seen before....this was not Prophecy, it was a divination of the past. The pearl he was looking upon was a clean shape and pristine white and as he looked into it he beheld something that brought a tear to his eye and finally he understood why events were unfolding as they were in the present.

In the heart of this swirling pale pearl was a fragment of something old and lost, dead but not forgotten; Kurnous...he understood now, all was clear and his mind felt something harrowing to it...hope.

Long Jia Jinhai cut the image of a true and noble emperor, sagely in dress and manner without needless frivolities or extravagant jewelry or clothing. He was the very image of a warrior king who had won his throne through steel and cunning, dressed not in official imperial regalia but the uniform of an officer and general, the armor of a soldier of high rank and privledged status. The only thing missing that would've completed the scene of a beneficent ruler presiding over the land was the lack of advisors or his beautiful empress at his side. To your eyes, the weariness of war and the scrapes and cuts his handsome face bore only served to deepen his aura of authority and honor. His helmet sat on his knee, while his spear rested beside him. Representatives of the Shuni queen and her province and the Bask republic stood at his side, along with a single Vishnu tribesman. Amongst the crowd in his stately tent, you could spot members of each army sent by the nobility of Shangrala to Nuceria by their colors and sigils alone. There was even the odd Angra present, for you had interrupted the morning's strategic meeting in your excitement to present what you had learned of the past and of humanity's long lost friend never to be met or returned to them. Kanzeon and Anahita were also present in the form of their avatars of flesh and bone.

"Lieren, my friend, it is good to see you in good cheer even in the middle of a war. Usually in the company of tyrants you adopt a grim and wrathful demeanor, but I do not sense that brooding chill about you, old companion" Jinhai spoke with all of the dignity and grace befitting a man of his station, and all were in rapt attention though you did not overlook the handful of officials who cast weary glances to your sons. If the astartes gathered around you were under the command of any other man, suspicions and fears of a coup would run rampant. But all knew Lieren and his sons to be virtuous of heart and loyal of mind.

"So" Your friend, the emperor of the mists continued, adjusting his posture and twirling his hand, urging you to stand from your knees "it stands to reason you have, in the midst of such sorrow and bloodshed, found a reason to be glad. A weapon or a secret to cripple the enemies of prosperity and liberty. A stone that when pulled will collapses their great castles or perhaps a foe mistaken for an enemy that could be shown the light of benevolence and turn to our cause, like the free city of Loc'ea"

"I regret I did not know of their great and elderly philosopher before I arrived, it was his hand who lead them to cast of the chains that held back their forebearers for untold generations" You remark offhandedly, making a few of the present who are aware of the game you played as the ancient Kynigos smirk with a twinkle of amusement in their eyes "Him and I held a similar world view, but alas, he walked his final journey where no living man could follow"

"A true tragedy such minds could not meet" Jinhai says with a knowing smile "But I would ask you, oh wandering hunter, what you have uncovered that has returned that playful smile to your lips"

"I know this will disappoint the junior generals and advisors of strategy and tactics amongst this throng gathered to here my findings, but I found no weapon nor secret to turn against the high saddled savages who dared to chain my blood like an animal" You say humbly, bowing your head as the Astartes who already know of your discovery do the same, which is soon mimicked by all of their brothers who could be called from their duties on the war front in time to be present for this presentation of long lost history, all of them unwilling to stand tall while their father bows his head

"Then you have found a curiosity" Jinhai correctly guesses, eyes darting to Kanzeon and Anahita, though you would not call them a curiosity, more of a miracle though they had within themselves the capability to be used as a great force on the field of killing and battle. There were already murmurs amongst the crowd of represenitives and dignitaries.

"No. A record of a friend of humanity from before our far scattering across the sea of stars. A friend loyal and true that has, regrettably been lost to us" You continue, as you, with a flick of your wrist, toss a projector onto the floor and a life sized Mathoth appears, woven of light and code in a manner similar to Kanzeon's avatar within herself

"A Xenos species" Dae-Hyun states before any one of his siblings can "Amongst the forgotten roll of Humanity's allies, one of few who did not turn their backs to us in the long night, a species that lived at our side for many years"

"A brother" Jinhai states, leaning forward in his chair as Kanzeon sweeps forward

"At times, yes" She says, as with a wave of her hand she commands the recording on the projector to proceed, filling the room with screens of texts and recreations of historical scenes played out. Many of those present watch with barely contained awe and wonder, while your sons, ever warriors study the vids with predators eyes.

"At times, we fought them, at times we argued, at times we built and created, our hands interwoven in the loom" You explain, knowing that Jinhai and the other Shangralans will understand a more poetic explanation than Kanzeon would give "But in the end, we were allies and friends"

"The history between the Mathoth and Humanity was long and storied, we assisted one another in all ways. Our discoveries and providence were exchanged and shared" Kanzeon continues on, stepping to your side and taking your hand "Even when the creations of our ancestors wrought terror and atrocity throughout the stars, and the Mathoth were enslaved by the wicked machines, they returned to our side and sought to help us rebuild the empire once fractured"

Silence fell as the scenes of interspecies humanitarianism and cooperation touched the soul of every witness to the presentation, and several clapped their hands together and bowed their heads, muttering passages of the journey that spoke of unity and understanding.

You were nearly overwhelmed with pride when your sons joined in the quiet mourning of the race long dead, you were proud for all who understood the lesson you sought to impart, extending the teachings you gave them to a being that at a glance had nothing in common with humanity. Hope. Perhaps there was hope after all, that the Mathoth would not be buried and entombed once more beneath the uncaring sands.

"But they are gone from this world" Jinhai said solemnly "Gone before we could greet them with open minds and hearts, to return them to the fold. These scenes are upsetting, to see our ancestors abhor and persecute those who offered their hands in renewed friendship"

"Lieren of Nothing, did...did we kill our friends?" One of the present dignitaries of the Qian family asks, speaking what no other dares to voice "Did we chase them into the dark and cut their throats in that time of calamity and chaos?"

"I cannot say, Nuceria was once a world where they found kindness returned, one of a many connected together, a sanctuary for the luckless mathoth" You explain with quiet reverence, exchanging a glance with Anahita for her to cup her hand over Kanzeon's mouth if she mentions the role the ancient Aeldari had to play in the downfall of that brief return to the norm, but Luckily your emerald star knows not to upset the mood and remains in somber silence with the rest of the tent

"But it was broken apart by the change in the winds, rent apart like the rest of the galaxy. And fearful of their impending doom, the Mathoth who survived here pursued immortality and found death. I cannot for certain say the fates of the other enclaves of their race" You state. A few arrogant in their own virtues scoff at that. Some shake their heads in pitying understanding, others yet look aghast and betrayed.

"They hung themselves thinking it'd give them eternity, the fools" Chul-Moo snorts, and you hear him hit the ground when a superior officer reprimands him with a fist to the face. You roll your eyes while Jinhai waves his hand, ordering several texts and videos to be replayed

"Kanzeon, great engineer, please, make the image of the lost soul grow to stand as a giant" He politely ordered, and she did as asked

He stood from his throne
Cont
>>
>>5686167

"Burn this face into your eyes" He ordered all present "Hold your eyelids open if you must. One day, we shall step from the loving embrace of Shangrala...er, from Shangrala's surface to the stars above it, and search the stars for worlds like Nuceria that we cannot reach from the rents within the labyrinth of rivers. If we remember the face of the Mathoth, mayhaps we will recognize their descendants and repay them for their generational kindness and loyalty to the human race. Assuming that any lineage of these most generous of souls has endured the discordant era. Or if they've been reborn in new vessels, we could hold tightly to this feeling of comradery and recognize them despite their changing of masks?

No one objected, and many shouted over one another to state their agreement and that the emperor was speaking what they were thinking. Chul Moo meanwhile, picked himself off the ground and spat out a tooth

"You deserved that, you loud mouthed brat" Kanzeon scolded, looking down out the augmented giant scornfully as he looked around, baffled and confused

"Now, to more pertinent matters" You begin "I intend to rejoin the fight against the tyranny of the high riders properly, now that I have brought to your beneficent majesty's attention the records of a history long forgotten, so please, allow me to join the planning to decide which front of the war most needs my presence"

And which campaign do you decide to lend your great strength and cunning, Lieren?

Mix this two tactics.
Propose to Angron that we use our space marines for strike at key targets for weaken the city strategical points, we will do so by entering at night before the assault starts and then coordinated with him we strike. Meanwhile some of our space marines, Angron and some of his best gladiators will form a tip of the spear so to speak for utterly shutter the city defense in a point and allow the army to move in.
Supported by some light bombardment, armor, artillery and air support. We want few civilians casualties if possible this is a very large city afterall.

Once our shadowy objectives are done, we join forces and fully push towards the palace while keeping eyes around in the city for avoid that the Tyrants attempt a pogrom of the population or anything fouler.

>DOGMA HERETIKA
Malcador looked through the reports brought to him in the night by one of his agents. While at first he was angered by the rude awakening given it seemed to be a report upon some minor cult undoubltably soon to be expunged from all record history. Yet the agent hurried themselves in and activated the holodisplay so the Sigillite could instantly see the keywords and more importantly one specifically; 'Lieren'. So he sent the agent away and played a short recording.

While the gathering was quite large the majority of the crowd was hard to identify given they were firstly not in the focus of the recording but also how they all wore strange masks...masks he'd seen before; white but for the eye holes painted with golden tears.

They were gathered around a statue of a towering figure baring a relative approximation of the Emperor's Second son shaped from simple stone but flecks from spread golden paint over it's eyes. But most hauntingly was the statues pose and standing...bones of man and beast lay littered about the figure, broken masks and from the staff the giant holds aloft and sideways with two hands hang eight bodies with masks of black, splattered with a rainbow collection of colours?..

Already Malcador was concerned for the case was a clear one of human sacrifice alongside other tributes, worship and deification in the most extreme degree but then... the worst came.

A figure moved into focus and from their poise and height, tone and words he knew what it was; Aeldari; it spoke as it place dan antlered crown upon the faux Lieren's head.

“The Way is clear, the Prophecies speak true. The Hunter has returned to us, see how his story follows true claiming his bride of life and wild, the awakening of a Great Enemy, the Wars that follow... See now how he is remembering himself, let us pray brothers, sisters from all across the stars.”

Malcador slammed the device off not wanting to hear more; Aeldari mythos was not a common subject to him but he knew enough, he'd need to speak to the Emperor sooner than later

>Doing human sacrifices to worship Lieren.
That's an express ticket to awakening the Ogre if I ever seen one.

Will the thread slip off the board? Will Lieren finally find his way home?! Will we get one last post in time! Find out next time (or dont) on lrimarch quest II!

Calling the vote now, sorry for the long wait, agaaain. But my freaking AC broke, like it seems to do every summer, so my brain was boiled and steamed for the last couple of days. Also stepped on glass, which is never fun.

Making a new thread, since I don't trust any of the technology in my house to work as intended.

The shadow war, with Feng, the brothers of the panther and the beggar sect. The High riders already fear the mist, now they shall learn to dread every whisper of the wind and shifting shadow:12

Break the trust the other cities currently fighting with the Thal'kr have by launching an assault upon the ones furthest from the fighting.:1

Angron's march to Desh'ea to crush the abusive thal'kr once and for all, leaving their alliance headless and leaderless, while their best tacticians are focused on fending off the Shangralan assault. He has also borrowed a handful of your sons, and you wish to command your whole host:9

So Lieren will join Angron's march, but stay to the shadows with his hunters, beggars and his sons. Soon the high riders shall learn to fear not only the mist night brings, but night itself and the subtlest shifting of the winds

I've archived the thread and will link the new one once its done.

Oh now this sent a chill down my spine. Really liked the description of the idol and the eight hanged evils

Remember how furious he was when he assaulted the Celestial incarnation Palace? That contempt would be dwarfed by the wroth such actions would insight within the not so gentle hunter.

Which makes me think, what would happen if Lieren got dropped into Yharnam via warp shenanigans? I for one would like to see those fucking shadows getting axe kicked by the giant of shangrala
