Your name is Gurie Niamic, and you do not want to get into too many complicated details but you, in the so called "Wonderful World of Pokemon" have essentially been forced, through a series of events that you had NO FAULT IN, to choose the form of your slavery. In this so called "Free world" you, a cute wholesome hex maniac, are forced to labor away to the bone with the threat of starvation being hung over you.

Or to paraphrase, you lost all your money and if you don't get a job you can't buy any snacks.

Also there is some stuff about being in prison (again no fault of your own) and uncovering what looks like a shadow pokemon smuggling cartel, but you are focusing on the snacks! The Snacks are what matters here.

Alas, cuteness really is a crime...

Some of these jobs don't look TOO bad however, after immediately discarding anything in the public sector you find a lot of these jobs follow Macro Cosmos's Pokeconomy Model. Essentially you can sign your pokemon up for jobs for you... or for extra money you can catch and sell the pokemon! Which is a little Team Rockety but you suppose you can just... vet the customers. Surely there's nothing wrong about buying a meowth...

Oh! And there is a job that requires a ghost specialist! That's perfect for you! Look it even says "Preferably Gurie Niamic" in the job listing!

>Take the ghost job
>Go take the Pokemon hunting job, apperantly its for a cooking club and they need a water type? That makes sense they can wash dishes.
>One of the jobs involve sphere hunting in the "underground", you can go with Sandman and Jabberwocky! That could be fun!

Welcome to Hex Maniac Quest.
https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=hex%20maniac%20prison

You are Gurie Niamic, a cool beauty put in jail for crimes you did not commit over drama you do not deserve.

Fortunately for you, some idiot minister somewhere decided that Prisons were too much for their criminals, and now you are in Rose's Academy for the Apologetic, which is a school prison. Also this is Orre and there are shadow pokemon still because of a sinister company... and you might be haunted?

To honor your dear father Roger "Rude" Niamic, you have formed a gang based on your dad's gang, Team Lazy (2)! As per your Criminal Constitution you have vowed to only use your potent ghost powers to avoid work, and never do anything you absolutely don't have to, and eat as many snacks as you can. You will work as hard as you can to be hardly working, that's on the motto, your dad made t-shirts one time.

You also have pokemon! This is a pokemon game. These include:

>Gremlin the Impidimp: A SHADOW POKEMON who seems to have no personallity, what little we see of it seems to be... pretty mean! Hes VERY loyal to Gurie, and almost ready to be purified! If only a purification machine or divine rock existed in prison

>Sandman the Sandygast: A self professed crime lord who swore featly to Gurie after she overpowered him in a astral battle somehow. Sandman seems really powerful! His Scorching Sands hit like a truck and because of their unique relationship Gurie can take his shovel and wade into battle herself! Just like that ninja.

>Jabberwocky the Trapinch: The only henchman Sandman had, hes spunky and unknown. Want's to be a dragon.

Friends:

>Carrie: A one armed upperclassman who admires your father. Has a lot of flying types, all of them are cute.. Seems to act tougher then she might be? You've never seen her fight. Likes movies.

>Tom: Tom isn't their real name. A perverted nerd who killed a man. Tom seems to be the smart one, probbably by process of elimination instead of actual skill. Got kidnapped by a crossdressing pervert.

>Sir Planchett: A crazy lady who isn't aware she's on your team. She thinks she's a knight who was appointed by Zacian to PERSONALLY save the world.

>Nimrah Diggory: Known as the nurse, warden nad biology teachy here with the alias Proffessor Noah. Secretly he's your adoptive uncle and works for your dad as one of his elite Number Ones, secretly secretly he's a ultra beast here with a bone to pick with the Aether Foundation. You arent actually sure why hes in the school.

>Sunny Day: The Freshman Class leader. Always smiling, seems to be some warlord dedicated to "Hunting evil". Has a cute laugh, promised you cake. You also got in a massive fight when you first met. The only person you've ever punched.

>Take the ghost job
In the event of a tie I will cede my vote to whatever this is tied with, but this is perfect.

It is either the world’s dumbest trap, a cover for an associate that isn’t part of the gang (and also dumb), or a perfect job.

I will be happy with any of those outcomes.

Unknown no more!
The only reason I don't want to take the ghost job is in case we open yet another portal
>>
>>5629660
Gurie would be heartbroken if she managed to open ANOTHER portal to the shadow realm. I’m pretty sure that can happen anywhere though.

Me, I’d have to laugh. Maybe even vote for Gurie to laugh too before crying over how dumb her powers can be.

Looking at all the options, while the ghost one looks really cool... You ultimately decide on the Sphere hunting...
I mean, its a adventure! A real adventure! Without higher conspiratorial implications!
Life is complicated enough, your Principal is scheming, your classmates are dangerous, your uncle is a pokemon and a alien... isn't it preferential for us to just... go in a cave and look for fossils and stuff? That sounds fun! A lot of what you do isn't FUN, its just important, you are tired of important.

You pick the job and show it to Wide Tony who stares at you. "W-what?" You ask, looking up at the Student Council's beady eyes.

"Why are you showing me the job?" He grunts, biting into a icecream cone, snapping it in half. "I am not the one who will pay you." He taps the name. "Go to Rhodes with the job, he's the one who asked."

...Oh...

"Well maybe I will!" You say opening your bag and sliding as many snacks as you can in it. "Good day sir!"

"You have to pay for those." Wide Tony says, snatching your bag out of your hand and dumping the snacks back as you pout.

The bell rings, indicating Dinner was ending.

You storm off, waiting till the man is out of view until you pull out Gremlin's ball, you pop it open, the Shadow pokemon gripping a Party sized bag of Smouchum Snackcakes. The ill gotten snacks having been held by your pokemon in the middle of Tony's unfair confiscation of your other snacks.

Heh. SUCKER!

~~~~~
A few minutes later you are back in the shady alleyway with Sunny, the woman holding a big, bright pink cake. "There! I got your stupid strawberry cake."
"It's not stupid!" You protest. "This is vital for the seance!" You take the cake from her. "Now we can start!"
>Go to your secret base, its the best place to gather your "Weird powers"
>Go to the cafeteria, its the best place to eat cake
>Go to the abandoned Rocket Base, its got that recently closed rift which makes it a power spot... plus there just might be a shadow pokemon there, they had snag balls and stuff.
You decide that, the best way to do this is to clear one and a half pidgeys with the same stone.
You direct Sunny to the matintanence shaft the Rockets were using to hide their ill gotten tech, a base that you now had responsibility of...
The halls are even spookier with no one around, the winding tunnels of the base filled with panels that were meant to send you too and fro but now merely stared blankly back, powerless.
"Why here?" Sunny wondered as you headed to the Snag Room, the stadium still smelling of soot and stink from the fire pokemon and general bedlam that happened before.
"This area is filled with bad mojo." You explain placing the cake on a table that used to be used to hold snagem balls. "Those vibes resonate better with ghost types... And those ghosts are going to be our ticket to finding where shadow pokemon are."
"...Huh?" Sunny blinks. "We are asking ghosts?"
"No, I am asking, you are watching.' You cut the cake and place a slice on two plates, sitting down with some teacups you smuggled from your secret base ahead of time. "This is the Polteageist Tea Party, it can be a tricky ritual."
You poor a glass of tea across from you, concentrating your dark energy to Beckon the ghost nearby...
But before you finish you hear a shrieking sound, a blue shape darting down to the cake, the slice vanishing.
You stare upward, a large blue bat looking blankly at you, the cake in its clutche.
Mimikyu pops out of his ball, pointing at the Golbat. "A shadow pokemon!"
Your spell works better then you thought! Normally you get a omen of some kind but you beckoned the prey to you first, no shadowy tether required...
>First strike! Go send a pokemon to fight it
You turn to Sunny gesturing to the Golbat. "Well go on. Catch it."
She points to herself. "Me?"
"Well you wanted me to FIND shadow pokemon, I found one, I don't actually have to fight them." You cross your arms as Golbat starts to swoop down for another piece of cake.
Sunny throws a Pokeball, beaning the creature right between the eyes as Bayleef emerges. "Fine!" Sunny Day mutters. "But I am going to keep the Golbat for myself!"
You shrug, as if Golbat was ever going to be yours anyway...
You can tell that Sunny had a handle on it, sure Golbat had type advantages on Bayleef but if that was enough to beat her why was she a class leader?
Better them, to focus on your actual work...
You cut another slice of cake, placing it on the plate as you tape into the weird, your eyes flash briefly as you tug just briefly, on the strings tying the wound on reality together. The scar you rendered between the static and the distorted widens just a bit, allowing the scent of the saccharine sweetness through the wound, a dark shadow slipping out.
The teapot on the table rattles, a ghost emerging from the unseen space inside the teapot to peer at the fluffy cake in front of it. The Polteageist trills, slowly inching to the plate.
You slide it away. "Uh uh..." You chastise the ghost, the geist literally steaming over the loss of its snack. "Info first."
The ghost bubbles back at you as you stare it down, eventually slumping into its pot.
>Ghosts are good at detecting when something has gone wrong because they are, themselves, wrong. You can use her as a shadow detetctor
You unfurl a map of the prison... well a very crude one you drew in your spare time but a map none the less. You take out Gremlin, the Impidimp staring up at the bubbling boggart. "So-"
Your response is cut off by a loud shriek from the Golbat, vines lashing up at the pokemon as Bayleef dodges the sonic barrage...
"So, I have two questions." You slide the map over to the polteageist. "Can you show me where the pokemon are most..." You gesture to Impidimp. "Like him? And not in the dark fairy way?"
The creature glances at Impidimp and bubbles, taking a soggy finger and pressing it against the Second Chanser dorms?
Hmm, the Second Chansers ARE The ones who have minimum security and can leave on "Field trips"... if anyone could sneak contraband in... it's them...
"Okay second question." You look around, avoiding Polteageists stares by distracting yourself with Bayleef's weird petal attack just, bulldozing through Golbat's quarter resistance to Grass... "So... would you like to hang out again sometime because you seem pretty smart and I can get more cake and no one else in my team like's cake..."
"Pol?" The creature bubbles confused.
"Look don't get the wrong idea! It's just I am a hex maniac and you are a ghost and I should have more ghost friends, it's not like this is about you being fully evolved, you don't have to say yes if you don't want to... I can just eat my own cake, in fact I'd have more cake for myself so it's not really a big..."
The Polteageist pats your arm, bubbling in sympathy.
>Polteageist agreed to be your friend if you stopped crying!
(Sorry I had Seder i forgot to post this... or add me trips)
Your name is the Countess... actually to be quite honest thats not a name its a title, but it's what you have.
Unlike a few ghosts, with their mortal attachments and sob stories, you are Pure, born entirely of the distorted world, unsullied by the Staticland. This nobility puts you at a higher status then the mere echos of polluted lands or sad corsolas... or at least, you consider it so. Though you acknowledge that perhaps the common folk understand the seedier staticlands better than you. However you were quite proud of your silver spoon, it may not have been something you worked for, but you have worked to maintain its luster.
Not to get too specific of Polterpolitics, which you imagine the Breathers would find droll, but as a Gormund you are very particular about flavors. And sugar does not taste sweeter then in the Overtamed lands of the living. There's a sort of exoticism to the flavors these noble savages, these people of the lands can bring out.
So when a woman asks to be your vassal. A savage from whom flavor hangs behind her like a second specter... well you would be cruel and stupid to refuse her. And you are only one of those things.
You are sure this Gurie person will serve you well, and you look forward to rewarding her handsomely.
You sit with Antoinette, eating cake and picking out pokeballs with your new ally as Sunny fights the shadowbat.
Sunny is holding back, you can tell a few ways, the most obvious is that she's just using Bayleef. Allegedly, she has much stronger pokemon she uses for "higher badged challengers" then you, but even if she didn't... you still dont see Tangela. There is no rule you can't use two pokemon.
However even though Golbat has the speed game, and Bayleefs are normally offensively limited, Bayleef has made up for that in sheer raw output. The sky is covered in petals, the room a small localized nature storm that makes Golbat's ecolocation near useless with all small objects bouncing his sonic waves, and bashing into him.
Golbat occasionally swoops in, trying to blast a Supersonic up close but Bayleef usually takes advantage of the close range to hit Golbat even harder... Plus that Purified Petal attack she uses seems to just ravage the Golbats defenses.
Eventually Golbat just drops limp to the floor, Sunny tossing a pokeball at the bat with little trouble.
"And another rescue in the bag!" Sunny says turning to you. You gesture to the map. "Oh?"
"Yeah." You point at the barracks near the entrance, unlike your houses long tower dorm, they live across the prison yard in its own block, for their own protection you've been told. While co mingling is inevitable during class and lunch time, the Second Chansers have the advantage of not having to associate with the dangerous rabble like you, even if they have much harder labor. "The Second Chansers have the highest concentration of shadow pokemon in this school."
You hand the map to her. "Now Miror B COULD have just been the one giving them all their shadow pokemon... but if not, well that's where you need to look."
She smiles. "Excellent." She puts the map in her pocket. "You can go now. I'll pay you tomorrow."
>Eh? Shouldn't I be paid NOW? Can't you do your dumb drug bust later?
You look around bewildered. "But... but this is my base, why do I... why does everyone think they can kick me out of my stuff."
"Oh." Sunny looks around. "You said this was a rocket base... I just assumed we broke in!"
"I don't do that... except once! And I was helping that time!" You cross your arms. "The Yellowjacket gave me this base to safeguard because I was helpful! YOU leave it."
Sunny smiles blankly at you. "Well... okay! I mean I was going to go investigate those Second Chansers... Guess I'll just do that now!"
"Fine!" You walk towards the exit, Sunny following behind you.
"...Why are you following me?" You turn and glance at Sunny. "I'm going to do another job, we aren't working together anymore."
"...I don't know the way out." Sunny admits after a bit.
You walk in the quiet together until you leave the base... and then you keep walking together.
You check your notes... Great your 'client' is that Rhodes Rose guy, and you have to meet him to actually get the Explorer Kit to visit the underground... and he is waiting for you right in that work yard the Second Chancers live in. Not inside their base, fortunately enough, but your going to be walking with the crazy lady for TEN MINUTES!
"So... where are you heading?" Sunny asks as you hand her the job listing.
You frown, silver spoon? Well... he did say he was able to transfer you out of the manual labor class... "Is he... in student council or something? Part of the leaders like you."
She laughs. "Opposite. Hes not allowed to lead anything! It's part of the terms of his sentence, something about addictive personality." She opens the door for you, the two of you stepping outside into the cold night air of the work yard. "Hes no one's boss anymore, if he gets caught barkin orders he get's pushed into Dusknoir Row like you."
That's... a bit suprising. You are a special case (When are you not) but Dusknoir Row's for lifers or diers... erm death row people. Tom killed someone, Archer runs one of the biggest gangs behind bars... Carrie...
Actually hey what the hell DID Carrie do to end up in Dusknoir Row?
Hell PETREL was a Ghastganger and he's IN team rocket. AND a pervert!
Going from minimum security straight to maximum security is a really strict punishment, they have to REALLY not want this man in charge of things.... and yet he's going to pay you.
"So... He's not even in a gang. He's just some prisoner with connections?"
She nods. "And money. Which is the same thing. All on his own, be nice to him, he's kind of a loser." She winks as she tosses out Golbats ball, the bat perching on her shoulder. "Alright lets see if you know fly..."
Golbat spreads his wings and takes to the sky, Sunny holding on to his feet as she soars over the dorm.
...How does no one just break out of here?
New underling! Possibly. At the very least he can buy our crew better food if his superpower is money.
If we want him more involved, he could either help Carrie with her outside responsibilities so she can devote more time to Team Lazy, or he can try acquiring interesting items for us liiiike a divine rock for example.
You run the odds over in your head over and over... and eventually you realize that... if you keep debating between whether you recruit this seeming wildcard... the more you aren't going to do ANYTHING. Analysis paralysis is a mire, and the longer you sit in it, the deeper you sink.
So you decide it's only fair to do what you always do... which is, well nothing.
At the very least if you want this new recruit you can do that AFTER you prove yourself with this job... You can always kick the can.
You finally meet Rhodes, the bearded construction worker sitting in the same gravel pit you slept in before (Why always gravel?). He waves as you head over. "So you are the one taking the job? Didn't think you had it in you."
"W...what's that supposed to mean." You bristle a bit, your hair literally raising slightly thanks to your spectral blight association.
He raises a hand. "Nothing rude, you just were very dismissive of work before, had a whole speech about it... so its a bit strange you changed your mind roughly 4 hours later."
Oh. "Well... I need money for cake. And I am hoping that with this short job I can avoid doing work later." You sigh. "Its not like EVERYONE can do NOTHING, I mean someone has to bake the cake and mill the flour, I just... would rather limit my unnecessary labor... this isn't unnecessary."
He chuckles. "Guess I underestimated your sweet tooth." He hands you a box. "Heres the Junior Explorer kit. Don't bother trying to dig under the walls, everyone thinks they can, but well..." He shrugs. "It goes really badly, pokeballs get disabled, Dugtrio collapse the tunnels... No one's escaped so far, but a few've died trying..." He smiles pleasently. "But you'll know when you start digging too far, so no worries about accidental damnation... you know how these things work right?"
You shake your head. "No.' You open the box and put the hard hat on. "But Sandman does."
~~~~~~~

The Prison Underground is rather... damp for a tunnel. The air is far cooler, and the dark tunnels wind around the heavy metal pipework of the sewage system. Which is filled with feralligators to hunt escapees. You suppose the tradeoff of all the freedom you have is that they are willing to just kill you to justify keeping it.

Sphere hunting, from what youve been told is rather simple. The "Spheres" are actually gems that grow here... which is weird, but essentially if you find a few already growing you can replant them and get a bigger payout later, in addition to the harvest you get now. Apperantly Spheres are used to make TM disks so they are quite valuable.

The question is where to look?

>Focus along the pipework, filled with water and poison type pokemon but they may have more discarded treasures then just spheres
>Focus along the outer rims of the grounds, not to escape but... well the easy stuff should have been taken already, your odds are better on the Outside

You decide that, if Rhode's warning isnt full of shit... you should head to the edge anyway.

If as many people get hunted down as Rhodes implied... that implies a equally large amount of treasure... or at least unclaimed spheres

As the ghost expert you feel that it's sort of up to you to take care of abandoned thing's like this. You and Sandmans walk takes a bit, unfortunately there is no ghostly power of superspeed... But there is one of sensing the dead... and Rhodes was true to his word, there were pinpricks of light at the end of the tunnel.

You walk... glide even, past clearings to a large T section, the walls going from the smooth diglett cut structures to rough, bumpy, like a pule of collapsed dirt. Sandman slips through the cracks of the cave in and through his power the wall starts to dissolve into sand...

The room is dark, far darker then your lantern should be... You take a step back out of the room, Sandman gliding behind you as the darkness coalesces, a large cloud of many green smirks floating behind the mists.

>Orrean Spiritomb Wants to Battle

Now that the ghost is concentrated you can see the white of the bones behind it, as well as a duffelbag of illgotten pokeballs, not prison balls either, the genuine article... These must be the failed escapes... and what remains of them is attacking you.

While you are known for waiting and gauging your foes from a distance, this foe is fast and clearly not willing to wait for you to take your time. Thus the only way for you to get your moment of plotting is to take that momentum away from Spiritomb.

You gesture to your two pokemon. "Attack."

Antoinette ducks into her pot, the porcelin prison shaking as it whistles in steaming error. A boiling stream of water gushes from the spigot, the Spiritomb disperses, trying to dodge the burning scald, to a limited effect as the water cuts through the smoke, the dark haze mixed with white steam.

The room roars as the ghosts draw back, trying to regroup and push forward as Impidimp charges in, his paws glowing with shadowy energy as he Launches his Shadow Prank. A purple aura surronds Gremlin as he leaps into the smoke, causing unknown number of bulling japery until theres a hiss. Purple smoke echoes throughout the room. You reach into your bag for a mask and hurridly put it on, the Poison Gas echoing in the tunnel.

This is bad... Things don't disperse underground.

You hear a cackle as the smoke clears, green faces echoing in the smoke, even though several of the faces are weeping from the pain of your assault.

Sorry long ass homework.

What matters is degassing the room, and since you do not have defog...

Wait hold on...

"Countess... can you clear the gas?"

There is a smug bubble from the royal polteageist as the ghostly spigot seems to vaccum, a gust of air swallowing the poison as Defog clears the hazards in the room.

The creature roars in annoyance blue lights glowing in the cloud as the creature builds up a hex. The vengeful curse is launched at Polteageist, but Gremlin leaps in the way, his hands glowing blue as he he hastily sets up a light screen...

The barrier sheds a bit of the damage, but hex's are meant to exploit weakness and Gremlins poisoned. Countess quickly moves out of the way as the Lightscreen starts to crack, bright blue light burning your dear partner.

"Im!" The Impidimp cries, quickly recovering from the blow as it lands back on its feet.

This Spiritomb is something else, you guess the lack of a Relic stone has really taken the training weights off.

Now that you've regained some control over things, you decide to take your time.

Impidimp readies his Swagger, taunting the dark monster as Countess takes a deep breath, focusing with Calm Mind to bolster herself...

Everything seems lined up, perfect...

Right until the ghost makes its move.

Lights flicker within the ghostly could, the greens glowing bright, even as a single face sways in confusion as a sea of stars sparkle in the undead sky...

Its... hidden power... but not just one, the colors are all different... One... two...

The you get to four before you run out of time. The deadlights shine a bright rainbow light right before a HAIL of multityped manifestations barrage the field. The Hidden Powers are machine gun out, the light screen crumbling under the raw numerical onslaught.

Gremlin and Polteageist are sent flying, you leap in the air and catch Gremlin, midair, quickly lashing a hand out to yank Antoinettes teapot to safety as you crash to the ground, absorbing the brunt of the impact. (Those rigorous dance classes have evidentally paid off)

Remember that back you shredded 3 days ago? It crashes into the wall, you slumping to the floor winded.

You look at the laughing ghosts, your wounded pokemon... the laughing faces of the ghosts... and you pierce it together.

Spiritomb is the condensed malice of 108 sealed evil souls... but this Spiritomb has no relic stone...

It's not some unleased superspirtomb... its a 108 pokemon. Like that... fish! The big one! You don't know your water types that well but its a buncha smaller pokemon right?

The necrotic swarm laughs, or maybe they just talk that way, the lights of the pinpricks glowing again as it readies another salvo.

>DEFENSE none of this stat stuff just WALL
>Scald worked before! Try to knock the barrage back.

Seeing the forces swarming you in full now, you decide that you must hunker down and do your best to outlast your barrage.
"Gremlin! Keep building up those light screens! Countess, use Strength Sap."

The two get to work, Gremlin throwing up barrier after barrier under the rapid fire assault as Antoinette drew green energy away from the spirits, invigorating herself...

The only problem was that the spirits were bodyless entities, inhabiting neither corpse nor stone... there was very little of their attack to drain, and it was both poor substance and poorer comfort as the barrage did not slow in the slightest.

Gremlin starts to slow a bit, his long tongue waging as he pants between broken barrier after broken barrier. Fatigue and posion each doing their part in sapping his energy away. Antoinette barely finished patching the last chip of damage from the attack as the barrier crumples completely.

Your defenses far apart the fog laughing as the lights of hidden power fade away, instead dark purple embers glow. The attack launches, the Hex knocking Gremlin to the floor and out of the fight, the fair seeing nothing but stars before passing out.

Laughter echos from the fog as the ghosts press forward, seeking to engulf the three of you.

So, have Mimi Shadow Hold them all in one place so Antoinette can finish them off with Scald!

The plan seems simple. You send out Mimikyu, your ace in the hole twlirling into battle.

With the power of Shadow Hold you can pin these ghosts and take them out one by one...

However you forgot one thing, the ghosts speed, and their malice.

Before you make your move, the ghosts swoop in, spewing more noxious gas.

The poison smoke fills the air, the faces vanish in the fumes... Antoinette already working on clearing the fog, but that stalls you're move, Mimikyu looks around confused, and then... just as the fog clears you see the bright purple flame of a hex.

It shoots past Mimikyu, clears Countess by a mile...

It wasn't aiming at them.

This isn't a cute noble, a loyal shadow pokemon, a proud champion of the forest... Its the malice of all the prisoners who couldn't make it, 108 crabs in a bucket seven feet deep...

It was aiming at you.

The bedlam of raw blight rattles your bones, twisting the carcinogenic gas you briefly inhaled and igniting it. Your veins are fire, your bones are ice, and your legs do not work.

You hit the floor, your mind running miles a second but your body in lockjaw. You can talk but barely. Mimikyu turns to you, running over.

Gurie had the juice to free Darkrai, and chose to tell it off instead. If she dies and joins the Spiritomb, everyone’s souls will be taffy to the new pokemon.

Antoinette does not understand the power her vassal has, but Mimikyu does!

No i mean, like if i roll 1 dice, the average is 50.

If i roll 2 dice and take the highest it goes way up to around the seventies. So basically because i do "Highest of X" A 70 is AVERAGE not "pass a hard thing".

"W-" You bristle. "H-hey I have seniority here you know! You should be taking MY advice!" You point at the Fog. "Go get your defog set up before he uses the gas!"

"I'm supposed to be SCALDING him, your running cover for ME!" The Countess glares at you. "You think, I, a NOBLE, would kowtow to you? Of all ghosts?"

Theres a click and the two of you leap, dodging a hail of Hidden... WAIT GURIE!

You leap BACK, swatting empowered bullets away with your staff before they hit the immobile trainer... this isn't working! Your a pokemon! Pokemon don't listen to other pokemon that's why you even HAVE people!

"We have to work together!" You yell at Antoine as she aims her spigot, a spray of hot water halting the advance as the ghosts scatter.

"You've been told that so many times Farreter!" The Polteageist yells back. "How many times have you listened THEN?"

Damnit.

Ugh... you do not have time for this arguement, there are centuries of baggage to unpack there and this is a battle in seconds...

You reach into your anger and twist it towards your foe, your shadowstretching and splitting, dark lines turning into dark claws plucking through the mists...

The storm of the tunnel spews venom, fire burning through its clouds, the chaos from its swagger turning its poison inward, if only in bits and pieces... You can feel, through the madness of the monster... something is cracking, a thought slips and you pinch it.

The storm halts briefly bound into a effigy of internal war as Antoinette's spigot spews burning water.

The ghosts are battered by the burning spray, steam filling the room as suddnly your hold breaks.

Ghosts SCATTER with a maddened frenzy, flying past you and darting along the tunnels to nowhere, fading into walls... all but one.

A single spectre floats in the air, held up only by your attack, water dripping from its ectoplasm as it flops within the fingers of your shadowy puppetstrings.

Spiritomb's storm had passed, its hold over the other ghosts broken by its wounds... you won.

You dart past the pokemon and to the corpses, fishing out a particuraly shady looking dusk ball from a skeleton. You wrench the ball from the corpse and throw it at the ghost, the pokemon vanishing into its prison where you promptly but it in the bottom of Guries bag under the gross snacks she always eats so the ball gets covered in cheese dust and sugary vinegery residue and other grossness.

Fuck him.

You look around, digging out a few spheres just to make sure this all was for something. Sandman and Jabberwocky head to the dead bodies, rummaging through the mass of tangled and twisted bodies for valuables.

The crooks have the spirit for it... but not much eye for valuables... but neither do you... You grab one of the backpacks of the dead runaways, empty it of anything yucky, and just fill it with whatever you can thats not molded. Some weird bones, a few glittery plates and some funny rocks. Then you toss it on Jabbers so he's "Holding" the item and send him back in his ball. You then shove all the weird pokeballs in some dolls Gurie had on her.

It's a rush job and you are sure you missed something... but its a formality really, you don't... actually like cake that much. Gurie really hyped it up but its kinda squishy and the icing is... eugh.

Sandman, Antoinette, and you gather up around your trainer, the three of you pooling your ghostly powers to lift Gurie and hoist her behind you. As quickly as you 3 can run without breaking the stasis, you pop Gurie up to the outside, the moonlight filting down in the tunnel as Rhodes watches you drag Gurie's unconscious body in the air.

~~~~~~
"Gurie, I understand women your age develop... independent streaks." Uncle Nimrah says, carefully tiptoeing his words around your glare. "But, I was hoping you'd have some more concern about yourself."
You aren't ENTIRELY sure what happened when you went unconscious but you woke up in a hospital bed and you were informed your going to be in a wheelchair for a while, maybe a few weeks. Also that you are in big trouble AGAIN.
>Its not YOUR fault there are sociopathic ghosts in the underground! You just wanted spheres! It was a milk run! You just wanted milk!
Your name is... well who cares. Names were just trouble in the business. People gave you a lot of names, parents did, the news did... Frankly you hated all of em.
No one saw you they saw the pictures. The art, the fucking show ya feel. It ain't ever bout the real shit just about headlines and headcases and far as the man was concerned you were both.
Ya didn't even kill nobody, all you ever slaughtered were journalists... and they aren't actually people ya know, just a buncha shadow shits. They were after your mind too, lock ya down in that Cipher shit to make ya into the pictures.
But you dont play these games, you dont go to SCHOOL or nothing, aint like this was school when you were round anyway. Shit was a bonafide jail and you were gonna escape... then some fucking ghost iced you just cause it couldn't make it.
It was never the system, it was the brothers. All the system did was make the studio and flip a camera on. Yall chosed to be on the show the whole time dog.
When you felt that... well you felt how the world SPIN ya know, and the only way to change the channel... was to take the camera.
You directing now ya know, least in the underground, not that mainstream shit THEY run up top. Ya building the numbers, filling the bucket... but when its full you gonna tip it over, break the whole prison to pieces and REALLY get the show going... the last show that will ever air...
But the fucking system, with that Countess type came and put the boot down on you.
Fuck man. You were almost free. The show was going to be over...
You grumble, looking away from Nimrah. "It's not my fault! This teacher has it out for me! He confiscated my money! If he wasn't involved I'd just be doing normal things like eating cake and hunting criminals."
Nimrah sighs, "I understand it can be... difficult for you to keep your head down. It may even seem unnecessary given the circumstances you are in... However you do exacerbate the situations by playing into these issues."
"Eh? What else am I supposed to do?" You look at Nimrah who shrugs.
"You can simply be poor for a while, or take a easier job for pennies, or even one of those clubs. You could duck Team Neo Rocket not simply attack them. Gurie I understand these aren't IDEAL options." He leans forward. "But their mediocrity keeps the stakes lower. If you escalate THEY escalate. People think you are important, a threat right now. But you are making those fears truthful."
You cross your arms. "Well maybe they SHOULD be afraid."
"While you are in a wheelchair?" Nimrah raises a eyebrow. "That may only embolden them to strike now."
You look around, feeling your back sting behind you. "Well... at least I got out of Miror B.'s dance lessons..." You give a weak smile. "So hey... its not... so..."
Your attempt at cheekiness dies at the look Nimrah gives you... which honestly is impressive when you consider hes not human. He'd have to have practiced that glare before.
"Gurie..." He starts before you interrupt him.
"Look, remember how me and Mimikyu met, I was already in danger. And if not me then the region, or the world, or whatever Faba is planning... Not to mention Archer's weird portal, and the fact this is a school for Criminals!" You gesture around the nurses office. "For Criminals! Who knows if I'd get out for good behavior, or out at all. I am a glorified hostage remember?"
He adjusts his glasses. "I believe you've mistaken freedom with safety."
You frown. "Have I? I may not be free so that means I need to live here, among all the gangs all the plots. I have to make the most of HERE in case here becomes... well... years."
Nimrah tilts his head. "Do you not think we will break you out by then?"
"B-but if I get broken out I'd be on the run! I'd not have much of a lackadaisical life then either..."
Nimrah is silent for a moment before he leans back on his chair. "I lack the conviction to change yours." He concludes. "Then let us change the subject... You are to be put in a wheelchair for your numerous crimes against your body. I was generous enough to convince faculty you do not need a assistant looking over your shoulder... but you still need a chair. I have some options for you."
You look through the catalog of options, and all of them have their appeal... But there's a clear answer.
The Rotom chair of course!
The humble Rotom has of course, increasingly been bred and utilized in various electronics to vastly improve their capabilities, including pokedexs, phones, and the Rotom Bike... And the Rotom Chair is just a Rotom Bike but a chair!
That means you get zoom! And can float on water. The others may be more comfortable, but the Rotom chair is more CONVINENT, and convivence counts for a lot... it counts for everything.
Nimrah nods. "Very well, I had expected that, wait a minute."
He comes back with the bright red chair, and one of his bright blue beast balls. "I do not wish for you to be in danger again, so I am going to upgrade your chair with one of my pokemon instead of the Rotom, it will assist you when you need it. Just... give me a hour to make the adjustments."
You nod, somewhat excited. A ALIEN chair? You don't think anyone else has even had that. You can't wait... but unfortunately there isn't much else to do but wait. Minutes pass, then more, to be quite honest, you fall back asleep while waiting, your hands still clutching Mimikyu.
You are... at a campsite, the fire cracles in front of you, the sound of waves crash in the distance. And you are not alone.
Some hobo sits near the fire, watching the flames glumly, in his hands is a melty, half eaten smore, chocolate oozing down to his fat sausage fingers.
Even though the man is sitting, knees wrapped around his arms, he still looks down on you. "Hello."
You look around, seeing graves all around you. "Am I... dead?"
"No." He shakes his head. "Not this time. You got saved."
"By... Mimikyu?" You watch the giant nod.
"And yet you are among the dead." The man bites into his smore, chewing slowly. He stares at you as you wait for him to finish, he swallows. "Not that you aren't used to that. Ghosts follow you everywhere." He licks a finger. "We are alike in that."
"...Who... are you?"
He shakes his head. "A loser."
You frown, feeling a spark of irritation. "Well if you are just a loser then why am I here?" You cross your arms. "You are just being vague and trying to dismiss yourself... but clearly you think you are important because you think its worth my sleep to talk to you mister loser!"
Your stomach grumbles as you look at his bag of marshmallows. "I think I am at least owed a smore if you are going to bother me like this."
The man hands you a stick and a marshamllow, you snatch it from his hand and gingerly get to work on toasting your treats. "My apologies. I did not mean to imply you did not deserve to know my name..." He sighs. "It's just... nothing I have done is worth being proud of. The history books write of me as a wise king and a brilliant inventor who defeated the Armada of evil and ended the dreams of a mad lord..." He pauses, watching the fire. "But that was 40 years of bloodshed, 39 of those years wasted wringing my hands about a moral connundrum I did not even answer successfully. Then I spent thousands of years alone." He sighs. "I did not even save the world from my mistakes, twice has the world been damned by my errors, it is merely divine will that a child suceeded where I failed the second time.You may look my name up if you wish, they call me Az. But, there is nothing of value in there."
"..." The marshmallow falls from your stick, burning in the embers of the flame. "Okay so... why are you telling me this?"
He looks at the flames. "...I think I need to apologize. It has appeared that even that, after all this time, even that evil has survived me. I try to protect people and hundreds die. I try to kill a man... and he is as immortal as me now." He smiles thinly. "As I have said. I am a loser... and that mans shadow looms over you."
"...Huh? W-which evil?" You replace the marshmallow.
"I am known as the man who made a weapon to end a great and terrible war... But the history books do not bother to go over who that war was against. Or what the weapon was pointed at." He grumbles. "People spend centuries wondering about the Great Crater but no one seems to realize craters are impact sites. The mad king of Paldea slipped into obscurity and ruin, not without reason. It took a thousand years for Paldea to reform from small fractured nations to a empire. And that empire has gladly taken more credit and glory... But that didn't mean the king went away. He's just been wandering." He turns to you. "Just like me. Wandering lost for 3000 years... but that King has not stayed in his lands... he's in yours."
>Orre? Why would he want to do that?
You frown, confused. "Wait... why Orre? We are a wasteland, there is nothing there."
He shakes his head. "There is nothing there anyMORE... I remember when Orre was beautiful, before the Darkest Day."
"But that was 3,000 years... ago..." You look at the 3000 year old king. "Wait... you didn't..."
He shakes his head. "I did not. However it was the ruins of your lands that destabilized the land enough to be worth fighting for. It was the Age of Gods back then, where Sinn- I mean, Arceus's fingers were tangible on the world... The monster that destroyed your land is far older then me, or Galarian empire it destroyed. However... I did use the tragedies of your lands as inspirations for my own..."
"But... then how did we get ruined? We didnt get hit by your weapon, nor did Dynamax pokemon run amok... what happened."
He frowns. "You are asking the wrong immortal monarch. While your land is filled with the refuse of Galar, they were not of my concern during my war with Paldea. Nor do I understand the workings of Eternatus. Ask others for that... what I know is this."
He raises a finger. "One, your land had great riches and great wars before the settlers came. Two, all that remains of this time is a stone that can transcend time. Three, science has recreated the curses of Eternatus in your world. My enemy was known for his maddening greed, and your lands are always susceptible to the influence of wealth."
"...so?" You frown. "I do not know if you know this, but I am in prison! I cant go fight some immortal tyrant while behind bars."
He blinks. "...Y-you are?"
You nod.
He looks at the fire then back at you. "...I... do not know what to do. I meant only to warn you, I can see you have a part to play, but I can not tell you what. I am no seer."
You look around the campfire, a ill wind blowing. "So... is that it? Theres a bad dude in my land? Aren't you going to help?"
He thinks about it. "It's not that I do not want to help... its that I've never been much help before."
There is a flash of lightning and you see gravestones surround you. "You are in Geosenge town, twice the site of the consequences of my help. If I were to help a third time, I imagine I'll be sitting among the graves of Orre instead... are you still certain you want my aid."
"...You're kind of a one person pity party you know that?" You slump in exasperation, flopping down on the grass behind you. "Dead this, dead that, mistake mistake mistake. Why don't you just pick up litter or something if you're so sorry?"
"I do that." He says nodding. "But no junkyard will compare to the ruin I have brought to my kin-"
"Uuuuuugh." You groan. "Stoooooooooooooooooop. I already have a headache from getting my back caved by a ghost. How am I supposed to carry the weight of your 3000 year old issues?"
"Flo?" A whisper is heard as Az nods.
"You have a point." The king says. "I shall try to give you advice, and assistance." He frowns. "I have so far only been reading you from your aura, I do not know your history, just your power. So you must tell me what you need. However..." He takes his marshmellow out of the fire, making a smore with it and handing it to you. "I can advise you on how to deal with Phil."
You sputter. "Phil?"
He nods. "King Phillip Goldstained, the mad king of Paldea. He has many titles, but his name is Phillip."
"That's... kind of normal?" You frown. "Hes a ancient immortal evil and yet my name is weirder?"
"I mean my name is Arther Zenith." Az saids. "We are famous historical figures from millennia ago, our names shouldn't sound weird. "
You bite into the smore and gesture for him to continue.
"Phillip is smart but unfocused. He has likely spent more time drifting between foreign luxuries then he has actually putting a plan together. He sees the worst in people, and plays to those vices, so he's likely to operate in criminal circles, even if its only to satisfy his vices. Your prison likely has someone with ties to him, either formerly or currently. Find them and grill them for info, or find something he cant ignore... usually something shiny and valuable."
"Like those spheres in the underground?"
He nods. "And that leads us to blessings." A small fairy pokemon peaks from his hair, the floette floating atop a black flower. "What do you want?"
"...Can you break me out of jail?"
He nods. "But Id advise against it. The only thing I can do is take you to Kalos, and youd be leaving far too much behind... and youd not be able to help against Phillip."
"Can you help me with my psychic powers?"
"Well I am no psychic..."
You start to get frustrated. "Then what CAN you do?"
He thinks on it. "I can build things. And I suppose I am a good leader, at least people listen."
"Well... would you recognize this?" You take out a ultraball Mimikyu handed you, the souls of Marky mark locked inside it. "This Spiritombs been weird, it almost killed me."
He examines the ball, sniffing it. "I think I recognize these, I used to have to spend nights carving the swords to seal ghosts like these away."
"THATS how Honedges came about?"
He nods. "A lot of ghost type pokemon originate from disasters or exorcistic techniques, evolving through tragedy... this creature seems almost like a swarm then a pokemon, a horde of bees." He frowns. "I have heard there are ways to harness the evil of insects, but I am unfamilliar with them... either way, I do not think you have the badges to make this pokemon obey you yet."
Pick 1, if you pick multiple im only taking the one the most people voted for.
As a aside, i am doing a sliiiiiight retcon. Essentially I said Az was inspired by the Darkest Day, but im switching them around. I think it makes more sense that the creation of megastones and harvesting of infinite energy woke Eternatus up, if only because it was wondering where most of its food went.
Its a hell of a offer, AZ is known, as far as you are sure (its hard to keep track of the many disasters in the wonderful world of Pokemon) as one of the greatest inventors in the last 3000 years. And well, you know exactly what to pick.
"Can you make me a purification machine?" You ask as Az nods slowly.
"You mean a excorcism engine? For the cursed?"
You frown. "No its called a puritfication machine, it uses type matchups to purge shadow energy and stuff."
He shakes his head grumbling. "Throughout history, I have seen people reinvent the wheel and call it a hoop, but yes, I can build one. Give me time though, I will have to acquire the tools... Gather what needs to be purified...
And good luck one who walks with the dead. A ill omen looms over you."
You wake up to Nimrahs red eyeglasses looming over you. "Gurie, are you alert? Would you like to keep sleeping?"
You shake your head. "No, no, the beds in my dorm are softer... do you have my chair?"
He nods, lips twisted in a smile. "Look next to you."
The chair is a large grey beast, seemingly made with tombstones and cushions rather then the sleek red of a rotomchair. The wheels are affixed with small tombstones aling the spokes of the wheel and the chairs cushions are a purple velvet.
"Oh! It certainly looks like itd fit a Hex maniac." You smile at Nimrah. "It's very pretty."
"Oh it's not just pretty dear." He taps the chair. "You can show yourself."
One of the tombstones flip over, a bright blue eye staring at you.
A sound like a rock skipping over water echoes from the chair.
"Tada." Nimrah says flatly, his voice rarely carrying emotion even on his most passionate days. "I disguised one of my own pokemon to help carry you, that way if any trouble happens... Well."
>Oh thats really nice
You frown. "This is... very nice of you, too nice... wouldnt this blow your cover."
He nods. "Yes."
"Wait... really?" Now you are confused.
"Well it is a ultrabeast. If you have one at your side their will definitely be a investigation, and questions. But, if you do not use Stakakata's powers explicitly, they will not notice."
"Then... why give me him to use?"
"Because Gurie, if you use Stakakata I will be forced to flee Orre, but I WILL escape. You can not. I would rather you be safe then the alias of Warden Noah...." He smiles thinly. "Its not even a true choice, as your father would kill me anyway if anything were to happen to you.... and it already has."
You giggle. "Oops."
"A rousing defense my lady." He stands up. "Now let me help you in the chair.
The Graverider is soft, more like a sofa then a chair, the motors work like a dream, avoiding you actually having to push the thing, and lastly, its antigrav functions let you float over stairs. Sure its slower then you were... but its more then you were hoping for.
A lot more.
Before you head to bed you head back outside, waiting outside Sunnys quaters down in the Choke Crew. The Year leader walks out, the same smile somewhat confused. "What happened to you?"
You cross your arms, glaring up at Sunny. "The machine."
She tilts her head. "Now? It's almost" The lights flicker off. "Past curfew..."
You shake your head. "No tomorrow, now. I have lost my legs, I have had Gremlin hurt again and again without him actually being able to care.. This ends now. I already have paid for this."
Sunny smiles. "Fair enough! Just remember! If the guards break your kneecaps its gonna hurt more now that they don't work!"
It turns out that warning was unnecessary, the litwicks having seemingly went to sleep, and without the fell light of the surveillance pokemon the hallways are as secretive as they are poorly lit. You glide through unharried, passing corridor after corridor until you reach.. a gate.
Not a gate TOO something, not a Gate like a portal, just a gate. Theres a t section split in the hallway, leading to the second floor bathroom of the eastern wing or a hallway of various classrooms for the upperclassmen. Right between this fork is a arch as if to suggest a doorway to be carved out, but instead theres just a wall, as if a extension got cancelled... or a secret base.
Sunnys Tangela leaps from her pokeball, her tentacles pressing several bricks in a fast sequence you can't quite keep track of as the gate suddenly, shimmers and becomes a Gate. Blue light filters through the cracks in the wall, shining accross the hall as the light thickens and brightens, the lines merging into a singular hole.
"After you." Sunny says, as you brave the portal.
The room is... wait you know this room. This is the storage closet! You fought Mimikyu here!
Sunny walks past the rows of knickknacks, even passing your own secret base without a word, ignoring the Axe that designated your doorway for a dull goldish teapot situated among a dusty fine china set... though its a much less dusty teapot then the neighbors.
"What's this about?" You frown. "We are just in storage?"
"Oh? You've been before?" She pops the lid open, a light glowing from the inside of the pot. Her smile widens. "Very interesting! Most people cant find the door! That's what makes it so useful to put stuff here!" She hums, clearing off the clutter on a small night stand, leaving the pot right at the top of a book stack that matches her height. "Gremlin please."
You toss Gremlin's ball, the Impidimp looking up at you and Sunny blankly. "So... what's going on."
Sunny shrugs. "I don't know! My friend showed me this place, and their friend showed them, and now I am showing you! I'm not really a history buff, but I think this room is older then the prison part... I mean you didn't think this place just looked like a castle to seem cool right?"
You... you actually did. You look away from Sunny.
"Oh that's fine I thought that too, but no its some old building they rennovated. You know, its what these foundation types do. It's specialish thanks to that.... and it has.... this!"
Sunny reaches her fingers in the teapot and pulls out a brightly glowing feather, seven brilliant colors shimmering off the feather, the colors shifting up and down like it's breathing. "A rainbow wing!"
She walks over, placing the feather in your palm.
"This is something you have to do!" She pats you on the back. "Go save your team miss leader!"
You walk over to Impidimp, the pokemon sitting atop the table. You stare into Impidimps eyes, and you see... something there, a spark, but too faint to tell, annoyance, fear? Hope? Maybe all of them... maybe you are projecting again...
You take a deep breath, steeling the ice in your skin, and press the feather atop Impidimps head.
The light fades, and you see nothing for a monemt. Then Gremlin begins to glow, ever so slightly. You hear the cry of somethough, the proud screach of a bird, and Gremlins glow turns a distinct orange... and then... The light becomes fire, and it burns without fuel or heat around your fairy pokemon, and, as soon as it happens it finishes, like sprinkling gunpowder on a fire.
The feather begins to glow again as before, faint and free.
"Im?" Impidimp looks at you, his voice carrying emotion you didn't think he had.
"Gremlin?" You hold a arm out to your pokemon. "Are you... okay?"
Gremlin leaps to your arms, embracing what of you his arms can hold. Tears stream down the imp's face, staining your uniform.
You cry as well, hugging your partner pokemon for the first time (That he noticed).
It was worth it.
It was really, worth it.
>End of Thread 5
>End of Arc 1
I'll write some stuff later, its late, but what i will be doing from here is more a QnA and some side stories to give you a idea of what is happening outside your view, scale and shit.
Things are heating up now!
>>
>>5659166
Ow, Imp can feel now. Time for Huggies.
>>
Your name is Gremlin the Impidimp.
Long ago you used to simply play pranks and cause mischief int he forest, mostly you'd take supplies from one bag and horde it... but not for selfish reasons!
No that'd be all sorts of mean! You always gave it back... just to different people! Like that hero! Steal from the rich and give to the poor! Though it was always too much work to quantify who was what, it's not like fairies use money after all...
It was great, but evidently someone really didn't like it when you stole that briefcase because you were hunted down by some rangers in white! And they did weird science experiments on you and made you go all wonky.
For a looooooong while your life was nothing, then it was nothing but around this shaggy lady who made funny expressions... but finally you can breathe! And your skin is warm and you care now! And you care so much that all that stuff the rangers did really tickles your teeth if you know what you mean! That was way outta line!
You are glad the shaggy lady gets it, shes really smart and she likes making fun of people! Which is great because you always laugh at her jokes... just on the inside!
>Shadow Prank becomes Light Teasing
>Light Teasing
Light teasing does 75 damage, lowers special attack by a stage and does double damage to shadow pokemon
You get.... bum bum baaaaa! Side stories! Side stories are contained segments about things that happened off screen! You can only look at TWO however!
Miles upon miles away, near Pyrite City (Its expanded from when it was a town), deep in the Under... sat Niamic's Mafia-Free Game and Grub Corner! The bright smiling face of its mascot Pumpkaboo wiggling on its sign in bright neon effigy.
Inside though, past the sodajerks and the voltorb flip card and the Drill Dozer gatcha machines, a much more somber mood overtakes the room.
Roger sits in the backroom, the lanky lump of lethargy looming over a litany of literary- paper.
Roger is flipping through piles of paper, blue ones with pictures of buildings, white ones with laws... Even a few red ones.
"Hmmm... what if... I were to disguise myself as a famous rock star, and claim I am hosting a concert in the prison... and then we can start a riot and sneak Gurie out while the police escort us to safety! They wouldn't want a famous celebrity to get hurt right."
"Daaaaaaaad none of us can play!" Piper complained, slumped on a table, Gurie jr bundled atop her head. "How can we pretend to be rockstars?"
"Well... what if we just pay real ones?" Roger drums his fingers on the desk thinking. "Beverly? You have any ideas."
A woman in a yellow jacket looks up from her Rotom phones, plural. "Oh... With respect Roger... this isn't going to work." She waves a finger, the Rotoms flying away as she dismisses the trio. "They are expecting us to rescue her, the whole thing's a setup." She sighs. "What if they set up a ditto decoy, or bug her, or just have some mole spying on her."
"But what's even the point of being a dangerous criminal gang if we can't use crime to help people?" The Crime lord pouts.
"Listen, we have three people on the inside already." Beverly says shrugging. "Gurie should be fine... And if we need more we can just get arrested!"
"Hmmm..."
"We doesn't include you Roger. You still have to raise Piper." Beverly says frowning.
"Booooo." Piper groans. "That's boring!"
"Yeah boo Beverly!"
The woman sighs, her rotom dex's floating back into her view. "Whatever..."
Within the halls of the prison, near the inner citadel, lies the staff quarters, the throne of the Wardens powers, filled with the riches and security benefiting the Guards status as stewards of these high profile crimiminals.
One such benefit was Mr Rime's soda bar, a classy speakeasy that served chill vibes and chiller drinks... Unlike the blaring lights of the Niamic playhouse, this bar was sequestered, private, but far from unoccupied.
A gnarled hand held a highball glass to the dim light, studying the amber liquid within the glass... or rather what was reflected in that liquid. "Koshmar... after all these years, you finally have come for me."
The burly man grunts, stepping forward, ice shivering within their shakers with each thud of his footsteps. "Weiss... this has been a long time coming."
Weiss sighs. "I can't run away from this forever... do your worst."
Koshmar slams his fist on the counter. "Triple thick chocolate Malt, Lonlon cream, extra cherries." The man smirked. "And a lava cookie."
Weiss turns towards the burly man in alarm, the elder mans eyes in alarm. "That's the most expensive item in the menu! Are you trying to ruin me?"
Koshmar grins. "You said you owed me a drink you old fox." Koshmar slumps into the chair next to him. "Pay up."
Weiss sighs, sliding a bill over. "Ah, where did I go wrong to get a apprentice such as you?"
"Where did I go wrong to get a teacher like you?" He eyes the school's professor in Magical Studies. "In fact what did the STUDENTS do wrong." He snorts. "They are already serving a sentence."
Weiss sips his ginger ale. "Well I didn't ask to do this, my wife dragged me into this." He scowls. "As she always does."
"You should thank her." Koshmar says, his milkshake sliding in front of him by a gentlemanly clown Pokemon. "You'd die of boredom if you had nothing to complain about."
Weiss rolls his eyes. "Nah nag nag... what about you? Did you even get what you were looking for."
Koshmar shrugs. "...A little. They figured me out faster then I wanted... but that let me realize they had a few things." He sighs. "Their mysterious patron... they do not like each other at all. Some sort of black mail is involved... and the patrons have help, the magic kind."
"Hmm?" Weiss raises a eyebrow "What makes you say that."
"They caught me quickly, my alibi was perfect, I had friends, but after one meeting with their "boss" and I was outted immediately... they didn't use a background check or a slip up of mine, no one notices when someone built like me makes a mistake. They had to use magic... and not psychic kind." He taps his head. "Don't work on me."
"So what... some aura user?"
Koshmar nods. "Could be, haven't seen one of those in a while though... lots of work for the payout. Usually see fairy types like you instead... Found something more interesting though."
"Hmm?"
"Some crazy lady broke into the base to watch the police raid." He snorts. "Weirdo."
