>What is this?
"The Mystery Dungeons" is a text-based role-playing game created to expand on the setting created by the spinoff series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (particularly Explorers of Sky). Players isekai themselves into the world and become Pokémon, going on adventures with their newfound guild mates! SFW ONLY

Want to catch up on the story? Previous Threads:
https://rentry.org/TMD_LHG-megasummary

>I'd like to participate!
Always feel free to join in to see if it will stick with you. People come and go as they please, but there are plenty of regulars, including artists and writers. Outside the main quests hosted here on /qst/ twice a week, a majority of side quests, lore, and role play happen almost all the time on the Element!

>How do I play?
First, fate must decide which Pokémon you become: https://randompokemon.com

Settings to Use: Generate 1, All Regions, All Types, all boxes checked (natures optional if you feel like giving your Pokémon a little extra in characterization).
Take a screenshot so we know you probably weren't lying—admittedly, while rerolling is frowned upon (although no one has any real issue with it)—after all, it's just something you and your conscience have to deal with!
Alternatively, if you're feeling much more truthful, go ahead and roll in the thread for your Pokémon! (1d905). Some legendaries and mythicals have been dropped from the available roster. Assume that the box art legendaries are unavailable.

>Okay, now what?
Join the Element and read the sticky, it has the (almost) complete starter guide! It'll show you how to set up your character profile, create locations to play in, and record the lore of your exploits: https://matrix.to/#/#themysterydungeons:matrix.org. A majority of side quests, lore, and role play happen here! Otherwise, the two (usually) weekly sessions push the main stories along.

If you feel you might need help, feel free to ask!

Our next LIVE main adventures start on Tuesdays and Saturdays around 6:30PM in this thread!

Namefag as your character, with your item and level!

After the events involving the cultists, the guild has returned to the HQ and settled down. For a while, it feels like that it might be it, settling into a normal where they can expect nothing but calm for a long while. Luckily for them, that is quickly crushed as Sneasel meanders out of the woodworks, holding a map.

"Hehe, losing your edge, huh?" she asks, gathering everyone around. "Hah. Whatever. I think it's... heh. Time."

She flicks it flat with a strike of a claw, laying it out for the group to see. Sneasel explains that she would like everyone to investigate this area, which looks to only be accessible after a short trip through a Mystery Dungeon. Just a routine mission, no big deal. The Mystery Dungeon itself isn't even particularly difficult.

So you set out to the jungles in search of... something.

"I'm never gonna suffer any sort of poisonous or volatile affliction to my self ever again. I've got Refresh this time around, and there isn't a single Pokémon in the whole world who can stop me except for the ones that can."

A familiar(?) voice dignifies as he squishes out of the brush.

"Normally I'd agree, but sometimes you just need to go into stuff without knowing anything." Vee provides his view of things.
"It's all about the mindset, Sable! If you keep an open mind, everyone will look inside and see you have nothing to worry about, and they'll be really intimidated or something."

"Of course, Charles! My, it's as if you don't recognize the mug of your compatriot."
The small, spiny orb burbles. He maintains a venire of confidence as he presses onward at a pace Charles would recognize from his more snail-like days.
>>
>>5597838
"Heh! Good to see you again! It's been a while. Hope you can forgive the forgetfulness."

>>
>>5597827
"That's... odd. Are you sure there's no way she could have sensed you?"
>>
>>5597839
"If it came from a mystery dungeon, perhaps an air of caution suits us best, hm?"
He shuts his eyes thoughtfully, somehow not harming his perception roll in the process.
"Although the temptation strikes me, as well, I must admit. I suppose I am my father's son, even in this strange new world."
>>
>>5597828
"Probably something a bit more relevant to her needs than mere magic...uh, but maybe."

>>5597834
"We'd just be a liability if we knew too much, but she'd be going herself if it was about something else, so I'm sure it's related..."
>>

Liability? She works for YOU, dude!
>>
>>5597834
Theodore raises a brow and tilts his head. "Oh, is she a criminal?" He asks, waddling besides Stern and his guild mates.
>>5597838
"Hm? Oh! Hey! It's a pinurchin!" Theodore bends down to face Jeffurchin and mewls. "Hi there! Are you a guild member too? I'm Theodore!"
>>
>>5597815
There's nothing that immediately jumps out at you despite your heightened sense of alertness. For a second, you consider the path you're trekking on might've been specially chosen to be devoid of conflict.

>>5597816
It seems Charles is not too entirely familiar with jungle flora. The most he can tell is that the plants are new to him. They are undisturbed.

>>5597822
It smells humid here.

>>5597823
Vines and towering trees are their surroundings. In the distance, he can notice a strangely curling branch wrapped in vegetation. Had he not been paying attention like this, he would've missed it. Approaching the peculiar object, he finds it is a Warp Wand.

The path begins to end with the printrune sign warning of a dungeon, placed where the barrier between realities become suspect. It looks sad and forgotten, with the wood of the sign rotten and the posts holding it up nearly crumbling apart. Has anyone been here in a while?
>Are you ready to enter?
>>
>>5597834
"Well, whenever I do things wrong, I go to whoever I made the deal with and tell them nicely. We didn't have any terms for this one, so there's nothing wrong to do! Just reach the destination."

>>5597845
"Yep!" Vee does not elaborate further. "I decided that she must just be really cool. That's the only explanation."

Jeffurchin sticks a spine through the warp wand's curl to extract it as Theodore approaches.
"Pardon the hazardous introduction. You may call me Jeffurchin, Theodore. A pleasure to make your acquaintance!"
Jeffurchin glances ahead.
>ENTER
"Well, friends, we would not be explorers if we stuck to the beaten path. Sally forth!"
He tries to take point, but is too slow to stick out in front. Is his perception of a faster calibur?

Citrine steps past the sign confidently.

>>
>>5597867
"It's a pleasure to meet you too!" He squints his eyes in glee.

>>5597859
Theodore waddles towards the dungeon entrance and pauses to examine the warning sign. He hums, and puts a paw to his chin and spectral claws appear to complete the gesture.

"Hey, I've been meaning to ask- what are these dungeons? They're such strange places and with how they act I half expect naturally occurring Warp Tiles-" He sees the others are already in. "Hey! Guys! Wait for me!"

>>5597870
The Bewear blinks. "We are?"

"I thought that we just had a cool, rebel attitude. Like a punk band but for exploring."
>>
>>5597865
The sign is forgotten and neglected. The printrune that has been burnt into the wood looks to be nearly swallowed by rot and moss. In other words, no, the sign is fine.

>>5597867
Entering the dungeon, he can perceive that it is a dungeon! There might be a higher chance of Pokémon who favor jungle conditions to appear. Which might be a lot.
>He thinks he saw a Victreebel and Venusaur wandering around further ahead...

Charles manages to discern a path for all of you to take.

One path goes right and seem to lead next to a den of sleeping Pokémon. Sneaking here is an option, definitely. The other path branches off...

>>5597900
Bind picks up the relatively slow Pincurchin to get things moving on. It's best they not be hampered by movement! They are stronger together. Also thankfully, he has a protection against the natural electricity.
>Bind's Limber!

He does puff up into a static fuzzball, however.

>>5597903
Well, paths and stealth don't matter now! Theodore has chosen to forge his own path, not held back by such silly things as needing to follow existing structures or what have you. This does have the added side effect of calling the entire jungle to their group, however!

>>5597895
>>5597896
These two can make out Venusaurs, Victreebels, Scythers, and a Dragalge coming to investigate the noise. There's far too many to properly engage, so you'll just have to figure out how to fend them off while Theodore carves a way out for all of you! You should probably warn everyone else, too.

Bind uses his electric state of being to begin pricking his way through the undergrowth like some sort of land-based Overqwil! It's... not really effective at actually carving a path for them to take, but it is definitely fast. Sable and Jeff are small and light enough not to make a fuss, and the Pincurchin even has the courtesy to give Bind a little more control on avoiding the jungle trees and tangling vines.

Theodore follows behind their clear "path" and clearing it himself, assisted by Charles (and some playful banter between the two), as they crush and smash like brutes right through the jungle! It's causing a lot of havoc, but it's certainly an expedient way of getting things done.

Bind is also pricked by Jeff. He does feel better, however.

As far as everyone else is concerned, this is the right way out... you better let them know! But you also might alert all the creepy crawlies here.

Vee adds one last measure to slow down the horde of ferals and trip them up. They'll never be expecting a sticky web to cease their chase. And as if their feral day couldn't get any worse, the ground that had once been solid turns into muck! There's no hope of catching up to the rest of the guild now.

Citrine decides to stand in the way for Theo while he widens a space large enough for the both of them to escape in.

She props her head up with an arm. "Hah. Not saying that I might've seen anything to begin with." You can't really tell if she's being sarcastic or truthful with that statement.

Brock must've forgotten a bag on the ship, or Tintoretto simply inhabited the bag to accidentally tag along with the rest of the guild. In any case, he's here now, on the ship.

Everyone else has chosen to conserve their energy, retreating to various parts of the ship to wait out the supposedly quick journey to this island.

Except Tintoretto, who has instead chosen to bawl his heart out, a comical stream of water flooding out from his eyes.

As promised, the ship arrives near the shores of the island and anchors nearby to allow everyone their own way to disembark their ship. Clambering to the shore in your own unique way (or on the paddle boat), you can already see Sneasel waiting under the shade of a tree. She flicks a claw to point behind her, gesturing to the overgrown path. Not waiting for a response, she begins cutting vegetation away to clear a way forward.

Eventually, the salty tang of the ocean loses its strength as you've moved deeper into the island. Sneasel has stopped just ahead, staring at a pile of rocks.

"Haha. We have hit a roadblock."

A pile of boulders, half-encased by old lava, cover the entrance. There's no way you can dig through this in a timely manner or punch your way through, so you'll probably need to devise another way through:

Vee strafes around the area to find an easier way around this block. He looks for any loose, gravelly parts of the rock that could be kicked out and potentially clear a simple way through. The three of them break off from the main group and head around, pushing away unruly leaves and branches blocking their path. Circling the area, Vee almost manages to slip into a particularly weak part of the ground. Dirt crumbles away as he slips and hits his chest where he was expecting solid ground to be. His left foreleg punches between the grass as he reveals an open space below, covered by the plants. Sable and Poli were following closely enough to not be victims of a similar fate. Just what did they find?

Theodore decides that the express route is the best way for him and immediately gets to climbing, gouging the side of the tall rocky hillside to ascend. Kaku, on the other hand, elects to simply walk and partially climb the steep surface. The two of them meet at the top, where part of the hill has eroded to reveal a cavernous interior. It's a small gap that needs to be widened to be usable. The rock looks weak enough to be chipped open.

Citrine, climbing the hill somehow, Gyro Balls straight through the gap, shattering the weak stone with a perfect spherical entrance. Kaku can probably squeeze through this, but it wouldn't be comfortable.

Citrine, in his haste, is now falling down a chasm.

Looking up, he notices a part of the group way above the entrance. The Goodra decides to follow and scales his way up until he's at the spot where Citrine fell in. Charles manages to just melt an opening large enough from everyone to comfortably go through, invalidating the need to drill.

It reminds you of a dog refusing to walk and instead letting the leash do all the work.

Sable, however, has begun skittering down. It's dark down here, but to him, it's bright enough. The ground is damp and jagged, worn smooth in places exposed to running water or the outside. A light moss covers the interior where light manages to touch the walls. Further ahead looks to be a precarious stone bridge stretching over a deep gouge in the underground earth.

Up ahead, they can hear the voices of their friends. Determining the direction is a little difficult considering how it seems to bounce around the cavernous space.

Citrine and Charles are still shaken by their fall, but probably still intact on the inside and outside. The Light Core provides some limited light. In front of them looks to be an impressive-domed structure housed within the mound. A carved arch invites you in. Stepping inside the dome, the weak light catches on sparkling stones embedded in the sweeping dome ceiling. It almost looks like someone painstakingly recreated the night sky in here. However, the light source isn't enough.

He takes the moment to think.
"Mm, maybe if we..." He points his paws ahead of him into the darkness, creating imaginary objects to play around with, before turning to Poli. "You know Ice Beam, right? If we freeze up some of the walls and paths and stuff,we can narrow down where the voices are coming from. They'll sound different if the sound waves hit the ice and stuff."
He leaves his suggestion out in the air for Poli to critique.

While his wounds are healing, it is clear his thoughts are not all with him. He probably lost a couple during his sudden meeting with the ground. Regardless, there are... seventeen paths around him. Under Vee's suggestion, Poli manages to expertly start encasing their surroundings in ice through his controlled ice beam. Vee takes the opportunity to assist him. The darkness only really seems to be nothing more than a distracting inconvenience. Carefully creeping forward, they enter the dome chamber just in time to see Sneasel briefly outlined by a burst of flames.

Charles is able to determine the domed room has a second exit on the opposite side. A pedestal rests in the center... with someone standing on it.

A brief plume of fire is provided by Stern, illuminating the full starry sky of the dome, and reveals Sneasel. She smiles and waves her hand. "Hehe. Hello." Darkness engulfs the group once again. "Glad you could, hah, make it here."

"Hehe. The Spacial Planetarium, it was called. A gift from Palkia to a select few of his followers to, hah, observe the Spacial plane." You can hear a light thump as she jumps down from the platform. "As of right now, it's... heh. Broken."

"While I would rather have, heh, stayed away from it, we could use the much-needed leg-up. The moment it's repaired and activated, they'll know what we're trying to do," Sneasel replies ominously. "Haha. They're pretty influential, so it'll be a race to stop them in time..."

Sneasel's voice trails off before you can feel her gaze fall back on all of you. Using the brief light from Vee's Refresh, she points to the path that Poli and Vee entered from. "Down there is where they, heh, probably kept the globe centerpiece when it wasn't in use. We would need some stronger lights, but I'm sure Power Gems would suffice. Lines are drawn between stars, forming intricate silvery patterns in "space." However, some of these stones appear dusty or muted, as if covered in a thick film.

Following Sneasel's instructions, all of you head down below into the yawning ravine, careful to stick to the naturally formed staircase that leads the way down. You find an area where someone must've fallen down from a considerable height recently, evidenced by the shattered rocks. It's dark down here and your visibility worsens the further you go down. Kaku decides that he'd rather not chance things and moves through, determined to meet this foe head-on. It's risky and impulsive, but his trick manages to pay off. At the minor cost of getting some of his own hair singed.
>Kaku takes 100HP damage!

He is now closer to the goal, but the pulses of electricity have become even more intense and the water becomes increasingly full of Eelektriks swarming the shallows.

>>5623583
Sable embodies the ideals and movements of chaos, flowing in tune with the electric music. His movements are jarring and snappy, but not ugly. He has gained insight into the strange patterns of the Pincurchins. There are slim openings between them, but someone fast enough could slip through safely.

As Citrine drags Stern away from the electrified pool, Vee comes swooping into the rescue, curing Stern of the electrical malady. Vee himself jitters from the overflow of electricity.

>>5623588
Astor decides to forego and toss the caution into the wind! His expert flying manages to get him far enough, right on top of the objective! However, the pulsating electricity is far too much, and his flight muscles seize up. He crashes a mere foot away from the sphere, unable to move.

>>5623599
Bind pours his all into cleaving away and draining some of the eel-infested water, carving a path into the rocky earth as dust and debris pile up around him. Eventually, it settles down as the electric water splashes and disturbed Eelektriks weakly flop to find new waters. The path is less dangerous now.

Sable manages to slip through the cracks of the electric harmony. With the dangerous water removed, he manages to get even further! He's about halfway.

Bind helps out the poor feral eels and pushes them into water where they are no longer struggling. What a kind thing to do. The eels go back to what they were doing before.

Astor forces his body to prevail against the paralysis, using his beak as leverage to inch closer. He's nearly there...

"...haha..." Mistral gives an uncomfortable laugh. "You can go ahead and check out the ship, but I'm going to stay above deck to... monitor things."

Kaku starts whacking away at the ceiling, However, he has misjudged the spacing and ends up chipping away some of his own support keeping him affixed to the roof! With a sudden, loud crunch, he nearly falls right into an arc of electricity passing below. The passing lightning makes his hair stand on end where he nearly was caught. The Eelektrik scatter from the falling rocks.

Currently, Kaku is dangling, in danger of falling.

>>5623633
Mostly what seems to be stopping them is the deeper pool surrounding the sphere in the center of the room. There is a collapsed set of old rocks that seemed to form some kind of temple. With some agility and dexterity, they could probably use that to make their way through. He can also see Astor struggling to make his way to the sphere, using beak and talon to do what he can.

He imagines the process in his mind as it's worked every other time; he holds on tight to the Gem, and it cracks, energy releasing from it, channeling into the Foreverstone along with the energy of another until it surrounds him, and out comes the move.

This time, it's Buzzy Buzz.

Vee tries to surround himself with V-Power!
Vee tries to unleash a full-force V-Move!
Vee used Copycat!
Vee used Buzzy Buzz..?

He attempts to take in as much electricity as he can (hopefully with harmless effects on himself) and divert it somewhere else.
He probably should've tried to make a lightning rod before this.

(+2 Craftiness)
>>
>>5623757
Vee goes against all odds and begins drawing in all the power of coursing in the air and water to power his move. There are loud bangs and cracks as the previously harmonic noise is disrupted. Vee begins drawing in the electricity right into the crystal like some sort of strange lightning rod. It begins to grow hot as his fluffy Eevee fur spikes up. An aura of lightning forms around him as Vee draws in more power than he should. Buzzy Buzz is on overdrive as it loses any form of target and nowhere to escape.

Leaving the electrified net of Pincurchins and back to the relative safety of the darkness, you carry your prize in tow, a strange globe engraved with wrapping lines. Clambering slowly back to the surface, you drag the globe back into the planetarium to an audience of a waiting Sneasel. She chuckles as she guides the globe onto the pedestal of the room.

The final Power Gem from activates the globe. It burns bright, filling the room with a flood of light as the planetarium's stars catch the power. It feels like you're staring at the night sky with how intricately the planetarium has been put together. However, a majority of the stars are fairly blank.

"Hehe. Does that answer your question?"

"Okay, let me try something. You guys move the moon up somewhere between ten and two."
>Kaku takes the Sun to the 3 o'clock position
>>

>Charles moves out of the way for Kaku
“Very well. Hope this works!”
>Charles helps move the moon to 10:00

"I have got no clue what you're talking about," Mistral replies, staring at Tintoretto in confusion.

Charles first shifts the Sun down to the 6 o'clock position, plunging the room back into darkness. Nothing happens in these positions, as they were already pretty close to the original locations. Charles steps out of the for Kaku, who shifts the Sun to the 3 o'clock position. On the right hemisphere of the planetarium dome, the stars return, revealing pulsating constellations that glow in unison with the activated globe. Charles steps to the Moon track and starts pulling it to the 10 o'clock position. As it slides into place, the left hemisphere reveals a very faint outline of constellations.
>The Sun is at the 3 o'clock position.
>The Moon is at the 10 o'clock position.

Sneasel taps her claws against the globe, humming. "Haha. Almost there, huh?"

The three are off doing their own thing, whether that be in pain, vibing, or simply watching.
>>
>>5631944
>Sable may have passed out from the pain
>>

>Tintoretto grins an evil smile
"PERFECT."
>Tintoretto inches closer to Minstrel slurping his tongue as he tries to chomp up his prey only for it to just go through them.
"What?"
"This isn't serene."
>>
>>5631944
"Cool, we are getting somewhere now! I think I got the Sun right? So turn the Moon clockwise, slowly."

Mistral backs up, giving him a weird look. "Personal space, please." He sighs. "Look, if you don't need anything, I'm going to check the ship." He leaves to go around the deck, checking that things are properly tied down.

Sable has been provided a shot of life through a dew. Will that enable the diSable? Who knows?

Charles shifts the stones back in place, until it slowly settles into the 9 o'clock position. Suddenly, the globe in the middle bursts to life, bisecting the dome with lines as the room dances to the tune of the stars.
>>

>Tintoretto busts out his puppy eyes
"Coon eye help?"
>>

"W-Woah!" Theodore stumbles back and claps his paws.
"It's amazing! It's all of the constallations! But. . . What are those purple dots?"
>>
>>5631959
>Charles gazes to the dome with his emerald eyes
“Ooh…”
>He’s momentarily stunned by the display!
“Hey…what are this pink spots?”
>Charles points to one of the magenta lights in the ceiling

"Ooh, the night sky! Incredible!"

Citrine's eyes would widen if they were physically capable. Having been sitting around resting, the sudden burst of constellations shocks him out of his stupor. "Huh? What...? What's..."

It occurs to him he didn't know what a constellation was until just now. "Uh... this?"
>>
>>5631959
"There we go! All shiny now. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess those are our targets..."
>>
>>5631959
>The dew pools in the holes left by the shattered gems on Sable's back. Sable stands at last!
Uggh... wha? Oooh... neat lights! ow... ow... Everything still hurts...
>>
>>5631968
“Citrine? Are you all right?”
>Charles glances at his Gigalith friend
>>
>>5631959
"Cool..."
>>
>>5631978
"I don't know what these lines mean. They seem random."
>>
>>5631981
"They're constellations! Like how people would look up at the night sky, and connect stars like it's connect-the-dots...?"
>>
>>5631981
“Oh! Right, your amnesia. Those are constellations, or, mappings of stars. You ever take night guard duty back at the guild? It’s like the stars in the night sky, but written down, with some connections made between them.”
>>
>>5631986
>>5631984
"But... why? It seems so arbitrary. What's mapping them even do?"
>>
>>5631988
Stern shrugs.
"For fun, and also for navigation!"
>>
>>5631988
>>5631989
“Probably what Stern said. Some early astrologists gazing at the night sky and making imaginary connections.”

"Oh wow..."
Vee looks up at the constellations in awe. He seems greatly fascinated by them. "Stars..!"
He wears an overjoyed expression as he stares at them.

Mistral looks apprehensive. "Just... check the ropes and make sure they're tied down."

"Hehe, they're the special locations we need to look for. Haha. These aren't exactly, hah, normal dungeons." Sneasel paces around the globe's pedestal, staring up at the constellations. "Hehe... that's concerning."

She turns back around to address the group. "They're not normal constellations. They're depictions of the planet's leylines. The whole room is designed to, hehe, view them better than any Wonder Map could try." Sneasel frowns. "A lot of them are missing. This room should be much brighter than it is right now."

Sneasel raises her claws up to the orb and begins spinning it around, revealing that the constellations move in tandem with the rotating globe. In certain spaces, there are large empty spaces, filled in only by the glittering rock-stars. For a huge night sky, the void does seem concerning. After showing off how many "constellations" are missing from the night sky, she takes out stacks of papers and begins tracing them around the globe. "Haha, you have your work cut out for you. Hehehe..."

Walking up to the group, she holds up three maps before leaving them at their feet.
>The first map leads all the way to the summit of the tallest mountain
>The second map leads deep underwater
>The third map seems to go down a massive scar in the planet

Sneasel returns to the pedestal and scoops up the globe, tossing it nonchalantly into her bag. "Pick your poisons. Haha. We need to work fast on each of these." She cryptically stares up at the fading lights. "Time to leave, hehe. They'll be here soon."
>>
>>5631999
"Okay."
>Tintoretto starts to cry because checking the ropes is too much work.
>>
>>5631999
Why would leylines be missing? How's that even possible?
>>
>>5631999
>>The first map leads all the way to the summit of the tallest mountain
"I'll take the hike if you don't mind. Maybe we could split up the work?"
>>
>>5631999
"Hm, I'd take the map that leads underwater, personally! But I'll see what all of you want..."
>>
>>5631999
“No kidding! Any idea what may be causing these disappearances?”

>>5632003
“I’m with Kaku. I’m not touching the ocean until I absolutely need to.”

"This one looks cool"

>The third map seems to go down a massive scar in the planet
Underground... well, that's my expertise here. Doubt I'd be any good underwater or that high up, anyway.
>>
"Hehe, glad you're all so eager to take up the jobs. Haha, but you should really... decide later." Sneasel holds up a lamp, illuminating the darkened room. "Heh. To the boat..."

You watch her quickly walk down the blocked entrance, ducking behind some sort of secret passageway. Is that how she entered without having to risk her life? In any case, it might be best to abscond if "they" are going to be here soon.

Sneasel smirks. "It's not simple, hehe, yes. But someone powerful is working to mold the world into their, haha, perverted image. What that might be, heh, I'm not sure.
