Long ago, on a planet called Earth, the greatest martial artist of his time made the ultimate sacrifice to seal away the most fearsome tyrant the world had ever seen. Master Mutaito gave his life to put an end to the threat that the Demon King Piccolo posed to the world. Our story, however, begins before even that...

>What is this?
This is a story following the adventures of a youth on Earth from pre-dragonball times, where we assume the role of a character inserted into Age 440 - when even characters like Roshi and Shen were foolish youths.

>How does this work?
It's a relatively simple system. We roll a pool of d10s equal to the relevant stats, with the goal being to roll as high as possible on the dice. Each anon rolls a SINGLE d10 with their roll, after I call out what it's going to be "best of". For example, if your relevant stat is 3, it's "Bo3", and three anons roll 1d10.
Eventually, as you grow stronger in different ways, the dice too will grow. You will never have more than Bo5, but the dice you roll may evolve into a d20, a d50, a d100...you get the idea.
Rolling the minimum result on these dice is always going to be a critical failure, and rolling the highest result is always going to be a critical success, which also scale in how drastic they are with the size of the dice - a 1 on a d10 isn't going to be nearly as bad as a 1 on a d100, so don't worry too much about it.

>Who are we playing?
Wyald Honta, an almost-twelve-year-old hybrid of Human and Tiger-beastman who set out to explore the world in order to sate the call of his blood. Because of his hybrid nature, he ages quicker than humans, yet slower than other beastmen. He has a strong moral compass, a polite and friendly demeanor, but an unforgiving side when it comes to those who commit evil. He follows the Way of the Warrior with his three friends: Azalea, Barbar, and Harum.

>Last time on Dragon Ball: Legacy
You rescued Azalea from a hungry troll, saved a town from three malevolent demons with Barbar, spent a year learning the Ways of the Warrior during which you forged your own weapon, stopped Harum from descending into a life of crime, learned a good bit about cooking at your first ever job, fought in an illegal underground fighting ring get medical treatment for Harum's Mother and Barbar, saved an especially unlucky woman called Tento from a living curse that had briefly possessed her in the process of cleansing it, and eventually made your way to the man known as Mutaito in order to see his techniques for yourself. Wow, that was long-winded!
>>
"- learn directly from you! I think your style could pair well with my style, the Way of the Warrior." You finish saying, holding your hand out to Mutaito. Judging by the movement of his mustache, you're assuming he's giving a slight smile at that, and he gladly shakes your hand in greeting. "But...before that, I think we also want to fight you. One on one, to see how the Way of the Warrior stacks up." You finish, earning shocked gasps from the students around him. Mutaito himself chuckles in response, apparently delighted by the declaration.

"Another hot-blooded youth looking for a challenge, hmm? It's been a while since the last time, I'll admit. Very well, I accept. It will be a good chance to show my students what a real fight may look like. You are free to use anything you have at your disposal...and it need not be one on one. I would gladly take on all four of you at the same time." He replies, speaking with a kind of confidence that you somehow don't feel is foolish or misplaced. Your instincts seem to be telling you that you're standing in front of another predator, one that could easily take you down as prey...

You release his hand and step back a few paces, with Mutaito doing the same. He bows his upper body towards you in an unfamiliar gesture, but you replicate it after a moment of hesitation in order to be respectful of his ways. Then, he slides into a fighting stance, one without any openings that you can see - sturdy like your Mountain Stance, tensed to move at a moment's notice like the Skirmisher Stance, and ready to strike relentlessly like the River Stance. A stance that could adapt to anything thrown at it as it needs to...this is already getting interesting.

You take your own stance, taking deep and controlled breathes to prepare yourself for what you're certain is going to be an intense battle...before Harum interrupts the moment. "I, uh, will just be standing off to the side. I'm not really a fighter yet, myself! I'd just get in the way." He says.

"Samesies!" Azalea says, popping off of your shoulder and fluttering over towards Harum. You look towards Barbar, uncertain on if you want to take up the old man's offer on ganging up on him...it would certainly give you a better fighting chance, but admitting that you'd need to kind of rubs your pride the wrong way.

>You and Barbar both fought him at the same time.
>You decided to fight him yourself. Barbar would get his chance later. You want to keep it fair.
and
>You used the Mountain Stance first, to weather anything that could come your way and learn more about how this old man fights.
>You used the Skirmisher Stance first, to test the old man's defenses and see how he reacts without exposing yourself too much.
>You used the River Stance first...something tells you that if you don't end this immediately, you don't stand a chance.

With a simple shake of your head, you silently inform Barbar that you're going into this one alone. He nods back at you in understanding, stepping back to give you room, while Mutaito's smile seems to grow a bit more. "You two must share a special bond to communicate so easily without words. I can respect the decision to keep this spar personal." He says, though his stance doesn't relax one bit.

You adopt the river stance you had before once again, waiting for a few moments just to let your opponent know that the battle is about to begin for real this time. Then, right with the beat of your heart, you push forward with all your strength to dash in towards the older fighter. Your arms tucked in, you prepare to slip around any strikes he may send your way, but find that he does no such thing; very well, you'd pit the full might of your offense against his defenses, then. You swing out with your new and improved claws, slashing through the air at speeds that no normal person could ever hope to avoid, but each swipe meets nothing; the old man doesn't even parry the blows aside, his body just twisting out of the way or ducking under blows with a fluidity of movement that betrays his appearance.

Knowing better than to keep using attacks that are failing to land, you switch it up to kick your leg out towards his with the intent to take them out from under him, but he twists back to plant his hands on the floor outside of your reach and lifts his legs into the air swiftly to avoid the sweep. Unorthodox, but a position that would surely put him at an immediate disadvantage...you rush forward once more with your claws to punish it, but his feet kick out at you, kicking each strike aside with surprising agility and precision. Now getting frustrated, you tuck your arm in and rush forward, slamming your shoulder into his legs and toppling him from his handstand position and onto his back.

He moves with the motion, pushing himself upright almost immediately, and unfortunately for you positioned right behind you now. Strangely enough, he doesn't actually capitalize on it, backing up straight away to create distance from you once more and tucking his arms behind his back. His moustache twitches as he considers you once more. "Your energy has carried you far in fights so far, I'm sure. Not many would be able to weather that kind of intensity. And I commend your adaptability - you clearly know when to change it up if something isn't working. Perhaps it would have been foolish of me to take both of you on at the same time, considering your skills..." He says, seeming to be earnest in his assessment. You get the feeling that he's about to go on the attack, though...
>>
>>5577654

You think over what you just observed from his fighting style for a few moments. He clearly takes adaptability to a level beyond what you and Barbar have, and clearly favors negating the disadvantages that one would normally suffer from poor positioning in a fight. Yes, you believe that this would compliment the Way of the Warrior quite well indeed were you to learn it...

Mutaito's Style: The most experienced users of this style can ignore the damage they would take from a failure or critical failure once per encounter, by going with the flow and turning disadvantageous situations around.

>Stay in the River Stance, you don't want to give him even a moment to launch his own attacks.
>Switch to the Skirmisher Stance, you want to be as light on your feet as possible for his offense.
>Adopt the Mountain Stance, turn whatever he sends at you aside, and try to punish him for it in return.

Subtly shifting your balance onto the balls of your feet, you adopt the Skirmisher Stance, letting up on the pressure for now in order to watch his movements carefully. Given what you saw of the Flash Lightning technique when you first went up against it, your usual parrying and blocks would completely fail if you attempted to use them against it, and you feel certain that the man before you would use it or something like it in the next few moments. Mutaito takes a deep breathe, and with his arms still tucked behind his back, he widens his stance considerably. Tension builds up between the two of you once more, before it breaks as he moves.

He leaps away from his position in an instant, launching himself towards you as his legs kick through the air like he's trying to jump off of footholds nobody else can see. You move to the side just in time to dodge it, but with a strange flash of light at his feet, Mutaito suddenly redirects straight towards you and plants a harsh kick right across your head that sends you stumbling back with stars in your vision. The old man is quick to enter into range again, not giving you time to recover from the attack - his leg latches behind yours and pulls back to take you off your feet, just as one of his hands reaches out to deliver a swift punch to your chest that drives you down into the hard stone beneath you with even greater force than if you'd fell.

You wheeze as the air is suddenly forced out of your lungs, leaving you winded as you roll to the side to narrowly avoid Mutaito's followup axe-kick, which actually seems to shatter the stone where you just were. He steps forward once more to dig his foot into your back, and thrusts you back upright with it, only to clock you directly in the face with a clean punch as soon as you're on your feet again. He's keeping you off-balance by controlling your movements directly, not letting you acclimate...this is bad!

With a growl of frustration, you feint a jab at him to force him into defense for just long enough to give yourself room to breathe, but he simply steps towards you once more while tilting to the side such that even if the jab was real, it would fail to strike him. His right hand glows with a mysterious power now, and he slams it directly into your gut in an uppercut. The force of it is nothing like you'd ever felt before, even the strikes from Spreen'Kals paled in comparison - it immediately sends you flying upward, the sheer pain causing you to lose consciousness. Moments before your awareness fades away, you do briefly note that it felt like your leg caught on something right as you were being launched upward, and you recall an oddly high-pitched sound.
>>
>>5577772
When you come to a few minutes later, it's to the sight of Azalea liberally dusting you with her usual brand of fairy dust. Barbar and Harum stand just to the side, looking down at you with concern. Mutaito, you note, seems to be sitting on a chair with an icepack on his lap for some reason...perhaps a side-effect of the technique he used? You don't recall having hit him even once, after all. Mutaito goes to speak up, his voice oddly a few octaves higher in pitch than before now.

"It seems you have much to learn-" He starts, before clearing his throat. His voice returns to its normal pitch when he resumes. "It seems you have much to learn about martial arts. But you've also come quite far already, so take pride in that. Your skill is to be commended for one who hasn't even tapped into the secrets of ki."

You go to reply, but initially cough for a few seconds instead. When you can finally speak, you reply with "Th-thanks! That was really something else...what do you mean about the secrets of ki, though?"

"To keep it simple, it's a force I discovered that dwells within all living things. It's like your fighting spirit, your lifeforce...the energy you internalize with every breath you take. With the right training, you can harness that energy, use it to bolster yourself internally or project it outwards. The difference between someone that can use it and someone that can't is night and day, no matter how skilled they may be without it." He explains, shifting on his seat due to some kind of physical discomfort.

"Ohhh! So it's Human Magic!" Azalea says with sudden clarity, tapping the bottom of her fist into her palm. Mutaito doesn't seem inclined to correct her, just giving an amused chuckle in response.

"Consider me sold. When can I start?" You ask, hopping up despite the pain in your abs telling you not to. You can't hide the wince that comes from doing so, of course.

"Hahah, of course, of course...how about the day after tomorrow? I'm sure we could...both...use some rest, after that fight. And I can use tomorrow to test the mettle your friend over there." Mutaito responds, gesturing to Barbar. Well, you won't say no to that with how sore your everything currently is. The only question is...what should you do to pass the time until your training officially begins?

>Get to know some of the other students, they might be just as interesting as Mutaito himself!
>See if you can get an early grasp on this 'ki' stuff...sure, you're supposed to be resting up, but your curiosity will kill you if you don't!

While you're resting your bruised body, you decide to strike up a conversation with Azalea; you didn't want to do anything that might hinder the recovery process, so this was about the most you could safely do. "Hey Azalea, what actually is Magic? You said that Mutaito's 'Ki' stuff was just Human Magic, right?" You ask her over lunch.

"Huh? Oh, that's right, I did! I mean, it sounded pretty similar to how us Fairies use magic. It's just kind of an instinct, you know? You concentrate on the mana flowin' through you and say some magic words, and ka-pow! Zap! You make magic happen." She says proudly, pointing a finger at your nose and sending a tiny arc of electricity to it that barely even tingles. You rub your nose anyways, because now it just feels funny.

"That's all? Ahl and his Apprentice seemed to think it was a lot more complicated than that, they usually told me it'd take years to teach just the basics..." You reply, before taking another sip of your delicious dino stew.

"...Oh, right!" Azalea says, snapping her fingers. "Yeah, I guess I forgot about that. Humans have it way harder when it comes to magic, huh? If I remember correctly, Ahl said that Magic is about Belief, Willpower, and Ritual. You gotta believe that what you're gonna do is gonna happen, you gotta have the willpower to make it happen, and you gotta form some kind of a ritual to shape the mana you expel. Usually the ritual is supposed to reinforce the first two things after you practice with it a whole bunch, but I find that it's pretty easy to just do what I want, so I don't really use them." She says, wiggling her fingers mystically at you.

"So why would it take years to learn the basics...?" You wonder out loud, tilting your head.

"My guess is that Humans have a lot harder time using their Mana than us Fairies, and it just gets harder the later you start, which means it's EXTRA hard for you guys because you don't know how to naturally use your mana! You can't even feel it, supposedly." She says, shaking her head in a kind of pity for your kind.

"It gets harder? That's the first time I'm hearing that..." You reply.

"Think of it like this, kids know how to make-believe and actually have fun with nothing, right? But adults get all boring and weighed down by responsibilities and take on a realist mindset. Those things are anathema to magic! You gotta have a free spirit and imagination! There's always exceptions to the rule, of course, people who are just born talented or keep in touch with their inner child well into adulthood...but that's the general reason why you don't see salarymen that can teleport." She explains, and you slowly nod.

"Does that also go for the magic the Demons were using?" You follow up, briefly imagining someone as serious as Gerrato being 'in touch with their inner child'. Somehow, it just feels wrong to imagine that...
>>
"Hmmm..." Azalea humms, hand on her chin in intense thought. She continues the noise for a full fifteen seconds, before shrugging. "I dunno! Look, Magic is a little different for everyone, as far as I know. I can tell you what it's like for me, and what it's like in general, but I can't tell you what it's like for specific people, or even what it's like for twisted things like Demons." She says, rubbing the back of her head.

"Ah, I see..." You trail off for a few moments. You do pick the subject back up with her after some delay, and end up talking about the specifics of magic for several hours that day. You learn that disrupting someone's concentration is the best way to make a spell backfire on the caster, which is certainly useful information to put away for later. You also learn that magic has virtually limitless applications as long as someone has enough Magical Power to pump into their spells, from creating matter out of thin air to predicting the very future or even drastically increasing one's lifespan to the point of practical immortality! You also try to learn a bit about Ahl's Theories of Enchantment, but that immediately proved to be much too obtuse for your mind to really grasp, unfortunately.

The next day, you watch Barbar's own match against Mutaito. Admittedly, your teacher fares a lot better than you did against the old master. While he does ultimately lose in the end, he actually scores several cuts and blows against the man, and forces Mutaito to use what you can only assume must be the perfected form of the Flash Lightning technique you went up against so long ago. It truly did change the tide in an instant, immediately reversing the pressure that Barbar had put on him and putting Barbar onto the defensive...and unfortunately for Barbar, he simply wasn't nimble enough to dodge consecutive blasts of lightning itself, not with his huge frame.

You still congratulate him on his showing as soon as he comes to, and treat him to a hearty meal to help him recover. You both agree that it would be wise to learn what you can here, given the undeniable skill of the master of this training academy. On the day that your training would begin, you approach the master with the rest of his class. He observes you tensely for a few moments, before speaking up.

"Crap, I forgot to get you a uniform. You don't really have to wear one if you don't want to, but they're designed to be unrestrictive, durable, and most importantly...easy to wash. That's fine, that's fine! We can get you one another day. For now, though...let's focus on your foundation!" He says, clapping his hands together. He then descends down into a cross-legged sitting position, all of his students immediately following suit.
>>
You hesitate, but do so as well, alongside Barbar. "Feel the wind as it blows across your skin. Breathe in deeply, and follow the sensation it brings. Into your lungs. Through your blood. Across your entire body. Grasp that sensation...and bring it into your palm." He instructs, eyes closed as he holds his hand out. Motes of light float from his hand into the air just above it, coalescing into a glowing sphere of energy. None of the other students yet manage it, though you do see similar motes emanating from their hands but failing to coalesce.

You close your eyes and hold your palm out, ready to try. "Remember, there's nothing wrong with not being able to do it right away. Even if you can't grab it, feeling it is just fine. Internalize that feeling...don't ever forget it! And most importantly, don't doubt yourself. The energy is there, it's in all of us." He continues to motivate his students, which you suppose now includes you. Alright...you can do this!

You'd like to say that you were a natural, that you were able to harness the flow of ki within your body right then and there. Unfortunately, while you are undoubtably a highly talented youth, you could not simply learn something right away just by seeing it. On the first day, you were able to feel the flow of energy he was talking about, but the act of grasping it eluded you entirely - how could you possibly grab onto something ephemeral, to grasp something that practically seemed like an esoteric concept hiding within you? Luckily, within the first week, you found out how: you didn't need to hold it, but rather redirect it. It flows through your body like a river, so you had to raise or lower metaphysical dams within in order to urge that flow to go where you wanted.

While you were only able to get soft motes of light to emit from your palm and dissipate into thin air on the first day - an act you found thoroughly exhausting after just a few minutes - your friend Harum seems to have met with greater success, briefly blinking an orb much smaller and wobblier than Mutaito's into existence for just a few seconds before it fades, causing the gorilla-man to immediately pass out. You were initially concerned, but the old master assures you that it's perfectly normal for first-timers to exhaust themselves as such, and that he'll be right as rain once he wakes up and eats some good food.

During the second week, you started to wear the same uniform that the rest of the students wore, and though it was never actually brought up as any kind of requirement you privately refused to shave your head to match them. Mutaito didn't shave his head, and neither did two of the other students there, so you're keeping your glorious golden locks! More importantly, however, by the end of that second week you managed to produce one of those 'ki orbs' just like Mutaito and Harum had. Of course, the three of you are hardly the only ones in class capable of such a feat - Barbar and several other students, who were all capable of at least some amount of ki manipulation prior to your arrival, had been tasked with keeping their orbs up for as long as possible and condensing them into more solid forms.

After an unintended power nap, you woke up exhausted yet ecstatic for your achievement! Not only did your friends praise you for the success, but Mutaito and his students all seemed to be quite happy to see your progress, giving you a sense of unity in the group. In fact, the two young students who didn't shave their head both personally congratulate you, introducing themselves properly in the process.
>>
"Not bad at all, newcomer! You matched Roshi's record." The one with flared-out hair states, laughing and slapping his counterpart 'Roshi' on the back.

"And slightly outdid Shen's. My first ki ball was a day before yours was, right?" Roshi fires back, grinning cheekily at his friend and poking him in the cheek, causing Shen to grit his teeth in a mix between a grin and a grimace.

"Maybe so, but I learned how to draw Ki out first! My progress just slowed a little bit when I helped show you how to do it after Master's classes, that's all." Shen rebukes, putting Roshi in a headlock and giving him a fierce looking noogie in the process. Perhaps you should say something to stop this from escalating further...

"Ahahah, well, I think Harum has all of us beat! And my first 'master', Barbar, he learned how to do it without any help at all just after seeing it once. They're way more impressive than me, to be honest." You reply, rubbing the back of your head sheepishly. Shen pauses to contemplate your words, allowing Roshi to pop himself out of the headlock.

"Yeah, that's true I suppose. How long have you been training with Barbar? Five years? Seven?" Shen asks, missing the mark by quite a lot.

"A little under two years, actually! I'm only eleven, you know. But I'll be twelve, soon!" You reply, thumping your chest with a fist in pride at the fact that you're not an old geezer yet. The news apparently shocks the two boys, who trip over themselves despite not having moved from their spots.

"Huh?!" "What?!" They both shout. "You're the same age as us?!"

"Yep! Heheh, I'm just a fast grower. Don't tell anyone, but the secret is to just want to reach the top shelf REALLY hard!" You reply, flexing a bicep and clasping a hand on it in a truly arrogant pose to show off the power of your advanced height. The envy of all shorties!

While they both stare at you incredulously for a few moments, Roshi is the one to speak up next. "That's just cheating, isn't it? Come on! How is that fair? The rest of us gotta take forever to get that big!" He complains, earning some more laughter from you. It's nothing you haven't heard back at your village, after all!

"Yeah, but you'll catch up to me someday! And I'll probably get gray hairs before you do, right?" You point out, which seems to calm the unruly lad.

"Ah...that's true! I'll be in my prime for way longer, since you gave up your youth...I'll be a total babe magnet for decades to come. Phew...that's a relief!" Roshi says, wiping nonexistent sweat off his forehead. You tilt your head curiously.

"What's a babe magnet?" You ask. Shen and Roshi seem to share a look, before Azalea flutters over and hops onto your shoulder. She whispers the true meaning of it in your ear, causing you to flush crimson with sudden embarrassment. You shake your head and wave your hands in front of you furiously. "Nevermind! Igottagoseeyouguyslater!" You say, excusing yourself with haste.
>>

After that, weeks turned to months. And months came together into years, as you learned that there are apparent huge depths to the complexity of Ki that you had scarcely imagined there would be. Your friendship with Mutaito and his students grew, and of course your bond with your original group of friends too grew in kind. You stopped growing upwards, instead growing outwards as you refined your body and mind, becoming far superior to the Honta that first arrived at this academy.

>You planned to stay for only 5 years, just enough to truly meld Mutaito's Style and the Way of the Warrior together.
>You planned to stay indefinitely, wanting to learn everything you possibly could from Master Mutaito. Though, you're certain that his training would involve sending you out into the world once he thought you were ready.

Of course, during your training, you ended up discovering you did indeed have a talent when it came to Ki.

>Internalization: Enhancing yourself with your ki, using it to strike far harder than would otherwise be possible or defend against blows that would break lesser men, and maintaining efficiency in its use as it cycles throughout your body.
>Externalization: Projecting your ki outward, using it to assault your foes from afar, and manipulating it effectively once it leaves the body.
>Sensitivity: Tasting the depths of another's power, reading thoughts and intents through ki, seeing the flow of ki throughout another's body, treading a balance between Efficiency and Manipulation.

There will still be interactions done no matter whether you pick the 5-year or the indefinite option. It's just to see how long you're intending to stay with Mutaito.

Kind of want to make our own style by merging all of the ones we find adventuring in the world together. Maybe even develop something like Yamcha's wolf totem, but a tiger.
By the way, does Barbar have a hometown? We should probably visit ot one day

Mayne we should send a letter back home? Gotta give the folks back home better news than just a shout-out on a news channel that may not even have been visible at home.
>Enhancing yourself with your ki, using it to strike far harder than would otherwise be possible or defend against blows that would break lesser men, and maintaining efficiency in its use as it cycles throughout your body.
I imagine we can still figure out ranged Ki attacks, yes? I'm imagining Honta having a cutting Ki slice.

>You planned to stay for only 5 years, just enough to truly meld Mutaito's Style and the Way of the Warrior together.

We can’t stick around for too long, no doubt there are additional masters out there to learn from. We should start hunting styles (and recipes?) like we’ve hunted monsters.

Also, there’s a seed here for Honta - how can he collect all the styles if he is aging faster than everyone else? He’d have to find some way to slow down his aging or become functionally immortal.

Not in the traditional sense. Barbar’s people are nomadic, so while he does have a tribe, their location tends to change a lot. They can be found in the Diablo Desert and surrounding regions, though.
>>5579190
Letters are pretty doable here, Mutaito’s academy is right off of West City after all.
Yes, ranged attacks are still viable, this is just what Honta finds easiest and develops fastest in.
>>5579193
An astute observation, Honta indeed would probably want to find a way to extend his lifespan. Hybrids are actually rather unfortunate, outliving their fully bestial cousins, aging much more rapidly than their human cousins, and generally not being a people of their own due to rarity and generally decreased fertility. Their Hybrid Vigir does make up for those flaws a lot, though!
>>
>>5579292
>They can be found in the Diablo Desert and surrounding regions, though.
That makes it easier, but it's still a huge part of the map to follow.
Talking about the map, I went to check the location of the diablo desert in relation to where we are, and I found out that the map you are using looks like the one from legacy of goku. Is that why the quest has the name?

So Ki-claws should work.

The training, you found, was a lot less direct than Barbar's methods were. While you did indeed spar against other students and against Master Mutaito every now and then, a great deal of the training involved honing your body through rigorous exercises, training your balance through increasingly difficult acrobatics, and learning a variety of forms and strikes that you could put into practice at a moment's notice. It seems that his training was intent on preparing you for any scenario, especially the ones that you weren't prepared for. Your technical expertise showed over the years, with even the prodigies Roshi and Shen being unable to best you in physical combat whenever you sparred against one of them - though you'll admit that both of them seemed better than you at manifesting their ki in various ranged attacks, with Roshi favoring the act of manipulating it into different esoteric forms like Flash Lightning and Shen favoring condensing his attacks into more damaging forms.

Throughout training, Mutaito also assigned you with rigorous studies, clearly intent on rectifying the fact that you're a relatively unlearned country bumpkin. Admittedly, you found your studies to be a lot more difficult to manage than the physical aspect of your training, with your brain often feeling fried at the end of a study session or frazzled during one of his impromptu tests. You do silently thank Kami for your time in the city, though, which helped you understand a lot of concepts that would have otherwise been complete nonsense to you. Funnily enough, Barbar was also subjected to this special type of training, and he tended to perform much more poorly than you on his tests; he'd always grumble and twitch his mustache in irritation, but seemed to accept that being brainy simply isn't his lot in life.

You're glad to say that you actually had a firm grasp on some of Mutaito's special techniques, and were in the middle of developing one of your own with Barbar. Though you were no master of them - merely competent with their use - you knew how to use Flash Lightning and that technique Mutaito used to redirect himself in midair during your first fight against him, which he apparently calls Air Step. Your own technique is one which spreads your ki into whatever weapon you happen to be wielding at the time, reinforcing it just like you would your own body, and giving it the ability to sear whatever it strikes similarly to the rather basic Ki Blasts you know how to do; in essence, you've been working on making your weapons a true extension of your body, a concept that appeals greatly to your Warrior's mindset. Perhaps one day you'll learn to extend your metaphysical claws without running them through a solid base like your Steel Claws first...
>>

>>5579349
Define Ki Claws. Do you mean forming long claws like Honta's metal ones out of Ki or coating/fortifying his natural ones?
That actually makes me think of the Nanto styles from Fist of the North Star, being able to pierce or cut stone and metal with bare hands.
>>
Socially, you admit that Mutaito's academy has been a wonderful stop for you. You would gladly include Roshi and Shen in your list of best friends, and while you're not as close to the rest of the students you still play and joke around with them regularly, with them tending to look up to you almost like a big-brother figure. You wrote letters back and forth with your parents weekly, their astonishment at your achievements only surpassed by their initial disapproval at you leaving with only a letter to notify them - they mail you some baked goods every now and then, and always find a way to ship you an entire birthday cake whenever that rolls around. You send and receive a LOT of mail from Lord Teal's castle, with Love Teal apparently being quite bored up there and spending the majority of her spare time writing to you whenever she isn't learning about politics or attending magic studies. Sadly, trying to mail Tento Mushi doesn't work nearly as well, with her island being a bit too isolated for couriers to easily get to...and while that does initially make you wonder how Teal's Castle is getting mail, you apparently learn they just have a mailbox installed at the base of the mountain that transports anything placed within up there.

Of course, around four years in, you're starting to get to that age where your body starts to notice the women in your life as a little more than just friends, hormones urging you into a somewhat more romantically inclined mindset. You're not really sure why they didn't kick in sooner, given how you grew up faster than everyone else in every other regard, but the reality is that you started to want a relationship with someone else.

>You pursued a relationship with Azalea, your oldest friend. Sure, there's a size difference, but that's easily fixed just by visiting a fairy circle. Besides, she's always seemed interested!
>Though the distance between you is large, you found yourself in a long-distance relationship with Love Teal. Gen did offer you her hand in marriage once, and she's got even better manners than you were raised with - you can respect that!
>There was a local named FanFan that you actually got to know quite well. You weren't really together, but you made your interest clear, and while there may be some competition in the future, you promised yourself that you wouldn't lose. You were infatuated.

During your last year at Mutaito's Academy, your mind focused on the memories of a beautiful girl you once saved - the captivating Love Teal, who was charming enough to even capture the affections of a demon, not that she wanted them. Your written conversations with her grew more frequent, starting to delve into more personal topics...but you find yourself at a bit of a wall, unsure how to broach the subject of becoming involved with one another. You actually spent more than a few hours smothering yourself with a pillow out of embarassment and frustration with your inability to come up with something, before your actions inevitably catch the attention of none of than your self-proclaimed babe magnet of a friend: Roshi.

"Man, I can't believe you're losing against a pillow. That's kind of sad, isn't it?" He says with a mirthful tone, leaning against the doorway he'd almost walked past before he had spotted you in your room. "What's got you all bent out of shape?" He asks, eyebrows raised up above his now-trademark shades. You throw the pillow at his face, which he catches with a laugh, and you sit up a groan.

"It's dumb." You say, hesitant to spill the beans.

"Since when did we avoid talking about things just because they were dumb? Come on, don't make me hypnotize it out of you." He shoots back, providing a very real threat given what you know of his capabilities.

"Alright, alright. It's just, you know...I've been thinking about getting together with this girl I know. Love, you know, Lord Teal's girl that I told you about. I just don't really know how to do it." You reply, flushing red with the admission. Somehow, things like this feel way harder than things like going up against malevolent demons...

"Ohhh, is that all? Well, you're in luck! I'm the smoothest playboy that's ever graced planet Earth, you know. Just call me Master Roshi, because I can teach you everything there is to know about capturing the love and admiration of the finest babes known to man." He boasts, shooting you a double-fingergun gesture and grinning widely.

"I...am not calling you that." You say, laughing at the idea. Honestly, he still had a long way to go before he was anything close to a master of anything!

"Fine, fine, suit yourself. So anyways, here's the plan...you just gotta use a little system I cooked up. It's called the R.O.S.H.I. System. The first step is Rendering her speechless: You gotta impress the girl. You've already kind of got that part in the bag, from what you've told me before, so hey - already partway there! The next step is to Overcome your hesitation. You know what you want, so take it! Just throw the question out there, be direct. If she rejects you at this step, don't worry...then you move on to step three, Substituting your offer with something smaller that they're willing to take. It's like haggling, start strong and then dial it back! On step four, you need to be Humble - she's already impressed with you, if you keep trying to impress her nonstop it'll just make her think you're egotistical. And finally...you want to impr-" He explains his process in almost full detail, before crumpling onto the floor when a hand chops him on a pressure point located at the back of his neck.

Shen steps over his friend's body, bending over a moment to tuck your pillow under Roshi's head. "Sorry, I just had to interrupt that. You can't listen to this fool when it comes to love advice, he's never even kissed a girl before!" Shen says with a laugh, causing you to furrow your brows.

"Huh, really? But he said he had a system and everything!" You exclaim.

"Yeah, but it's never once worked. No, what you want to do to win a girl's heart is use the S.H.E.N. system..." He starts to say. Needless to say, that night is full of conflicting information from the two people, with Shen's system apparently favoring an aggressive approach to seize the affection you want as opposed to Roshi's system of making them infatuated with you first. Honestly, you regret even raising the subject with them, but you thankfully manage to avoid an argument on who has the better method by saying you'll take their advice into consideration but will likely just wing it like you do most things.

You ultimately asked her out by asking if you were to need to court her to someday marry her like her father suggested, which she responded to quite positively, asking her if such a thing was indeed what you planned to do. After some coy back and forths as such, you do become an official item, and your conversations turn considerably more intimate over the next few months. She commonly sent you heartfelt poems, of both her feelings towards you and of the beauty she sees in the world around her, of her memories of your valor and of the pleasant dreams she now has thanks to you freeing her. She often referred to you as her knight in shining armor after you sent pictures of yourself in your newest gear to her, and you often teased her in turn about being like a princess from a fairy tale.

You came to learn that while she is indeed being groomed to one day take over her father's position, her true passion lies in music. She can apparently sing with a great degree of skill, and is no less talented when it comes to playing each and every one of the instruments available to her at the castle - though she specializes in the harp it seems. She dreams of someday letting her voice reach everyone in the world, to let everyone know just how she truly feels through the emotions embedded within her songs.

About six months into your relationship, you actually recieve a parcel from her in the form of a polished crystal stone. The letter that came with the package explained that whenever two people hold their respective stones and think of each other, they can see images of one another in its reflection, and hear each other as though they were just a room away. You tried it out immediately, of course, and were able to finally converse with her in realtime after all this time - it was honestly an amazing piece of magic! Your conversed with her every night since you got it, and even talked with your other friends at the castle from time to time - Gen was starting to plump up from his feasting, apparently, and Ahl seems to have gone into retirement now that Yang has learned everything he could teach her. Yang had apparently gone out into the world herself, seeking some legendary figure known as 'Baba' to continue her studies even further.

Of course, there was one incident where you'd woken up at around midnight to see the stone softly glowing as it often does when someone is holding it...you had picked it up to peer within it, only to see Love apparently taking a late night bath, idly thinking about you with her eyes closed while fiddling with her own stone. In a panic, you threw your stone across the room and into a pile of clothes, and for the next week you were completely redfaced when talking to her. She eventually weaseled the reason out of you, which caused her to be quite flushed as well, though after another month you both got over it. You still think about it quite often, though.
>>
Romance aside, you eventually reached five years of hard practice under Mutaito. You and he both knew you'd achieved what you wanted - you had not only become an expert in his style, but you had melded the best parts of it into the Way of the Warrior. Mutaito himself seems to have picked up and assimilated all the best parts of your own style in the course of training you, showing the man's talent for what he does. Your respect for him cannot be overstated enough. You extend your usual offer to join you to not only Roshi and Shen, but to Master Mutaito himself. Mutaito declines it respectfully, but Roshi and Shen actually seem torn between the two options. Ultimately, the two boys that you've come to see as brothers decline, giving a bittersweet farewell to you and promising to show you just how much progress they make when you one day meet again. It wasn't raining that day, but you still felt some water dripping down your cheeks.

But honestly, the world is round, so if you just kept going past Korin's tower you'd wrap around to the Diablo Desert in a lot less time than it'd take if you went all the way back on land.

If it helps:
We're currently at age 447. Roshi and Shen are supposed to fight over FanFan during age 448. Roshi climbs Korin Tower during Age 450, and trains with Korin until Age 453.
King Piccolo will be 'born' and start his rampage on Age 461. Fourteen years left until then...enjoy the peace while it lasts, and pray you're strong enough when the time comes.

Rolled 18, 7, 3, 12 = 40 (4d20)

You knew exactly where you wanted - no, needed to go next. Over the course of your stay with Mutaito, you had hears rumors about the most inhospitable place on the planet - a place where not a single creature has ever been spotted, in part due to how extremely difficult it is due to traverse it. Many believe that it's truly impossible for anything to even survive there, so it's thought to be entirely desolate and without life. It sounds like just the challenge you need to see how far you've come.

Stepping outside of the gates of the academy, you turn to your three friends that have been with you through thick and thin, who opted to stay with you as always. Azalea looks cute the same as she always does and has changed little over the past five years, and Barbar looks to be even more muscular than when you first met him, but Harum shows a significant difference - the gorillaman truly swelled up in size over the past five years, now standing two heads taller than you and with more muscle than three of you packed together due to his naturally large frame. Despite this, you noticed whenever you sparred with him that physical strength still isn't his strong suit, and he seemed to be by and large most inclined towards manipulating his ki externally as opposed to internally like you.

As you all go to climb into the truck, you notice that Harum actually seems physically incapable of fitting into the drivers seat like he used to - there's just too much bulk for it, he can't even slip through the doorway let alone sit inside. After a minute's struggle, he steps aside and shuts the door, silent for a few moments.

"You know, maybe we should just run there. It'd be good training, right?" He suggests, seemingly ignoring the fact that the idea only came about because of necessity.

"Good idea, Harum! A light jog should warm us up for when we get there." You say, hopping out of the truck again and stretching your legs in preparation. Barbar grunts in approval, an amused smirk on his face, and joins you in your stretches.

"So, you want to make it a race, huh? A bold idea from Bae, I didn't think he'd have it in him." Azalea says, somehow now wearing a professional runner's suit with a small sign over her chest proclaiming her name and city of origin. "Unfortunately for you guys, I was a gold medalist at the last Faelympics competition! So, what's the prize gonna be?" She asks with an actual visible fire in her eyes.

"What? I didn't say anything about racing-" Harum tries to refuse the idea, before Azalea cuts him off.

"There's no takebacks, Harum! But if you can't think of a prize, I'll name it. No, wait! A penalty. The last one to the finish line has to go the rest of the way there doing a handstand! We can make the finish line the coastline on the horizon, to make it easy!" She says enthusiastically, now holding a whistle that's half the size of her entire body and blowing into it to signal the start.

You laugh at Azalea's antics, looking over to your other friends to gauge their reactions only to see Barbar having already busted into a fully sprint, nothing more than a cloud of dust left behind and a trail indicating where he went. God damn it, Barbar!

You immediately break into a sprint as well, but find it difficult to break the gap between the two of you caused by his head-start. While you do slowly gain on him, you're sure that he'll redouble his efforts if he notices as much. Your pupils dilate as you watch Barbar, your gait slowly shifting into a more natural motion as the instinct to catch up to him settles into your brain and dulls everything in the world except your target. Your upper body shifts forward to reduce drag, your boots rip into the ground beneath them as you launch yourself forward with every step, and using Mutaito's air-step technique you grab onto the air itself in front of you to pull yourself forward at ever-increasing speeds with your hands - its a full body run that almost feels like an extreme form of swimming, and its efficacy can't be doubted as you finally catch up to Barbar...

...And then blast past him entirely, now leaving him in the dust instead. It's not enough to avoid losing, you're in this to win it! With speeds far faster than any car could manage, you find yourself moving through the Dead Field that you've trained in every now and then with Mutaito. It's a rather dangerous place with many deadly creatures roaming it, but you've long since surpassed the might of anything that can be found here - even when a cousin of the Ferocisaurus wanders into your running path and tries to take a bite out of you, you simply plant a boot on its face and jump over it using its own skull as a foothold.

Once you're certain that your lead is absolute, you look behind you to see just how everyone else is doing. Barbar is a good two hundred feet behind you but getting further away with each moment that passes, while Harum and Azalea seem to be neck and neck off in the distance - honestly both surprising and impressive to you given how small and lacking in power Azalea is. Your thoughts are suddenly interrupted, however, when you slam face-first into what feels like a brick wall...perhaps you should have been more aware of what was ahead of you, given how fast you're travelling.

Stumbling back with stars circling your head, you clutch your face with a grimace of pain. "Oogh, that one's gonna bruise!" You exclaim to yourself, before your doubled vision starts to focus again and you can see exactly what you ran into. Or who, rather; it seems that you ran directly into a tall yet extremely well-built man, bearing light blue skin and gravity-defying white hair. He's adorned in what you could only resonably call 'A fashionista's idea of warrior garb', and seems entirely undisturbed by the fact that you ran into him at speeds rivalling a jet.

"Rather rude to run into someone without apologizing, don't you think?" He suggests, offhandedly dusting off the front of his armor that you impacted. He is, of course, entirely right.

"O-oh! I didn't even know, I'm sorry! I thought I ran into the side of a building or something...you're not hurt, are you? I can help with that if you are!" You quickly say, mortified at the idea of hurting someone else with your carelessness. Although, now that you think about it, he doesn't look like he has even a scratch on him.

"Oh, no, I'm quite fine. It would take far more than you could bring to bear to hurt me, I assure you." He says with a grin that exposes his naturally fanglike canines. "What has you in such a hurry anyways?"

"Ah, that's right! I'm in a race with my friends." You says, smiling back for a moment before it turns to a sudden frown. "Oh no! I'm in a race! I forgot for a moment!" You state with a shock, looking around to see if you've been passed. You...actually notice the coastline on the horizon, now that you're looking, and Barbar has slowed to a stop with Harum and Azalea not too far away. Looks like it'll probably be a photo finish for them.

"How quaint. You all seem well traveled, such a diverse group. Would you mind if I asked you a few questions?" The man asked, idly glancing over at a stump of wood left in the ground about five hundred feet away. He points a finger at it and then swipes it in the opposite direction, the stump pulling itself from the ground effortlessly and making its way over to him. Whatever force pulled it away sets it down, and he sits atop it now, seemingly comfortable with it.

"Woah! That's an amazing technique! How'd you do th-" You almost ask, before remembering that he asked first. "I mean...yeah, sure, I'll answer some questions if you want!" You correct yourself, avoiding that social landmine. Smooth as silk, Honta!

The man chuckles briefly, before asking his question. "Have you ever seen a man with green skin? I'm tracking down a terrible criminal, you see, and recording the evidence of his crimes across the world. If you've even heard offhand of a single misdeed committed by them, I simply must know about it." He explains.

"A green man...? No, I can't say I have. Never even heard of that, to be honest!" You reply, tilting your head in confusion. What are they, part plant or something...? You can't really think on why someone would be green, of all things.

"Ahh...a pity. If you ever come across anything, please, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I live at my master's palace in the Red Sea." He offers, extending a hand to politely shake yours. You reciprocate the gesture of course. Still, another Master in the world? Perhaps visiting there one day might be worthwhile...

"Alright, will do, Mister! I forgot to introduce myself, by the way. I'm Honta! Wyald Honta!" You say, nodding at him.
>>
"Spice. Just Spice, my people don't really have surnames." He replies. "Till we meet again then, Honta. If you ever become strong, I'll be looking forward to fighting you one day." He finishes off, rather strangely. He launches himself off of the stump he was sitting on, and his body becomes wrapped in an aura of energy as he blasts westwards. What an incredibly odd fellow, with amazing techniques...

"What an incredibly dangerous fellow." Barbar remarks, almost mirroring your thoughts. "With an incredibly evil disposition. I could feel it while he was talking, his true thoughts are nothing like how he acted. I think he had some ulterior motive when it comes to that green man he spoke of." He says, his frown deepening.

"Huh? But he seemed so polite!" You point out, unsure how Barbar could have reached such a conclusion. Then again, you've known for a while now that Barbar seemed to be the most Sensitive to the nuances of ki than you and Harum were.

"A mask of convenience, I'm sure. There was unmistakable cruelty in his smile. You musn't allow yourself to be taken off guard by such tricks in the future, Honta." He warns, moving over to pat you on the shoulder. By now, Harum and Azalea finally arrive, with Azalea just BARELY eking out a win by a wing's length.

"Aw, dang it!" Harum says, panting from exertion. "I can't believe I lost! You don't even exercise!" Harum points out to Azalea, who has now manifested a bronze medal around her neck.

"Well, you know what they say, you snooze you lose! And you snost, so you lost." She taunts back, pulling her eyelid down with one finger and sticking her tongue out at him. "Which means you have to do the rest of the trip on your hands!"

With some grumbles and complaints, Harum inverts himself to stand on his hands - a task that's practically second nature for all of you now thanks to training with Mutaito. "Alright, alright. Let's just get there quickly then. By the way, who was that guy you were all talking to?"

"Some guy named Spice, looking for a green fellow. Barbar seems to think he's evil, but I don't know, he seemed pretty nice to me." You explain. Harum's head swivels over to Barbar, and Barbar stares back silently for a few moments.

"No, it wasn't a race thing. He just had evil energy." Barbar explains.

"Uh-huh. Suuuure..." Harum replies, clearly convinced. Barbar's mustache twitches as he grumbles in frustration.

You continue on towards the coast, eventually making your way to a sandy beach. You've actually never been to a beach before, but you thought they were supposed to be warm and fun! This beach is covered in sharp looking rocks, the water looks positively frigid, and the overcast sky definitely doesn't lend any appeal to it. There's no doubt about it - you're gonna swim across it! Like hell would you pass up the opportunity for a good workout like that. That being said, it does seem awfully cold, and you don't really want to have wet clothes if Yunzabit Heights are going to be even colder, so you and Barbar proactively strip down to just your undergarments, bundling them up tightly and using some cord to tie the bundles to the top of your heads. It looks silly, sure, but it won't be so silly when you're nice and dry!

You stride into the waters from the beach, clenching your jaw to stop your teeth from clattering at the sheer cold that the icy brine seeps into you. Fighting off the feeling, you wade further in, until finally you're forced to swim. One arm after the other, legs kicking rapidly, you start to steadily ramp up your speed on your way to the mountainous island. Looking behind you, Barbar seems to be doing just fine - if a bit slower than you due to his general dislike of all things cold - while Harum actually seems to have taken a different approach. The monkey man is hopping over the very surface of the sea, clearly using a mixture of air-step and good old-fashioned raw speed to his advantage. Damn, why didn't you think of that?

While you're considering how hard it would be to lift yourself out of the water to copy Harum, you hear a sudden shout of surprise from Barbar. He's now stopped in place and seeming to grab at something wrapped around him - something thick and black that almost resembles a tree root seems to have hoisted him momentarily out of the water. Before whatever that is can do much, Harum points two fingers at the limb, shouting out "Flash Lightning!" to make a familiar bolt of electricity shoot towards it in an instant.

To your surprise, rather than going into Barbar because of all the water around, all of the electricity actually goes directly into the mysterious beast through its appendage, lighting up its form in the dark and churning waters - it appears to be a rather massive octopus, though you'd never actually seen one before. The beast seems to go limp, its grip on Barbar slackening, and the older warrior takes the chance to grab it and drag it with him the rest of the way.
>>
It's only about twenty minute swim for you all, given how fast you are now, but you have to admit that those waters really do know how to suck all the heat out of someone. There's no actual beach to enter Yunzabit heights from, merely a fifty foot high cliff face for you all to climb, but once you're up there you finally have a chance to catch your breath. You apply a quick burst of your ki to blow the water off of yourself and get dressed once more, looking over to Barbar's massive catch. You're wondering what the best way to prepare it would be, but you don't happen to see any sources of firewood around at all - this island looks completely devoid of anything and everything other than grass, ice, and dirt as far as you can tell. Well, it's hardly the best way to grill something, but you can always just roast it lightly with your ki you suppose...

As you all sit around eating lunch, with the terrible winds trying to blow you this way and that way, you shout over the winds to start a conversation. "HEY HARUM!"

"WHAT?" He shouts back.

"HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT ATTACK WOULDN'T HURT BARBAR?" You ask to the best of your ability.

"OH, IT'S SIMPLE! ELECTRICITY FOLLOWS THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE. HUMAN SKIN IS A LOT MORE RESISTANT THAN WATER! AND OCTOPI ARE A LESS RESISTANT THAN THE WATER, TOO! SO IT ALL WENT INTO THIS GUY!" Harum explains, having to take a few breaths just to shout the full explanation out. He gestures to the grilled giant octopus at the end. You nod, suddenly finding it a little too tedious to carry on a conversation in a place like this. Honestly, the wind is howling louder than an entire pack of wolves right now! Poor Azalea has to hide in your bag, lest she be blown away instantly.

You're here, the question is...what exactly was your plan here?

True, but you're also not wholly human. Beastpeople themselves don't seem that remarkable, and earthlings in general are usually pretty mid, but hey - toriyama loves his hybrids. Hybrid vigor is one hell of a drug. You become better than either of your components.

Now that you've seen just how harsh this place is for yourself, you know that it's the perfect environment for your next step in training. You would seek out the single most inhospitable place on this island, where all of the factors that make it hell to live on are at their worst, and you would live there. Day after day, possibly even weeks or months, until you manage to overcome the environment entirely. And once you do that, no environment capable of being found on Earth would ever phase you again. It'd also do wonders for refining your internal ki cycling, as you're pretty sure that will be the key to surviving here.

And so you began your search, first circling the entirety of the island to find out from which way the winds blow the hardest. Admittedly, even doing that much was a surprisingly huge challenge - even a single step required you to fight against gales that would have blown any normal person away, requiring you to dig your limbs into the ground to stop getting buffeted around. And your body kept forming a layer of frost on it every few seconds that you had to crack open, the moisture brought in from the sea condensing on your skin and hair before freezing. Even just three hours in, your body felt almost completely numb, and Harum pointed to a cave in a nearby ravine for shelter once he noticed that you seemed to be having a rough time.

Perhaps shamefully, you took cover with your friends in that cave, knowing the dangers that cold temperatures can bring thanks to your studies. You warmed yourselves back up until you could feel your digits again, wary of the frostbite that numbness can blind you to. Your skin stings greatly once you warm up, like you were stung by bees all over, but thankfully there was no discoloration; Azalea uses some of her fairy dust on you all anyways, just to be on the safe side, since you can't easily tell what kind of internal damage there might have been. You'd have to be careful about how you go about this, that's for sure...perhaps you'd even have to work your way up to your intended plan.

As you stand back up, a small ball of ki now in your hands to keep your digits warm with, you notice something appears to be drawn on the walls of this cave, further in. Walking into its depths and getting closer, you hold the ki up to get a better look at it. Bizzarely enough, there seems to be what looks like a child's drawings, etched into the stone by some kind of a sharp object. It depicts what looks like a small squat person, bald save for two strange things sticking out of the top of their head, with sharp ears - perhaps a depiction of the person who drew it? The kid is surrounded by other figures, but you can't really tell what they look like, because they've all been torn up by what must be a beast of some kind with how many claw marks are gouged through them. Perhaps some dangerous beasts lurks in these parts...
>>
You all cast your gaze further around the cave now that you found evidence of someone else having been here before. Azalea finds a picture of the same figure depicted in yours, all alone and curled up, a tear drawn on their face. Barbar finds a drawing of the figure looking up at what you can only assume to be the night sky, given the crude stars and a crescent moon up there. Harum finds one of the figure holding hands with someone much taller than them, but the head of that figure was never finished, almost as though the person who drew it couldn't decide what the other figure should have looked like. Were they trying to draw someone they knew, but were unable to remember them? Or was it an imaginary friend they didn't decide the appearance of?

You don't find much else of note, and none of you are feeling particularly talkative after the somber mood that the drawings set. They all seemed to be touched with a certain sadness, though you feel as though you can relate to that if someone was trapped in a place like this - especially if they were young. In the back of your mind, you do hope they survived and were able to escape. Thankfully you don't see any bones or anything like that in the cave.

Heading back out, you tried your hand at a slightly different method to prevent the cold from seeping into you, since simple regulation didn't do the trick. You tried to wrap your body in a thin layer of it, to try to prevent the chilled air from even coming into contact with your skin and sap your heat that way. Hopefully this would prove to me a more successful endeavor...

>Three more anons, roll a d20. While technically this isn't an encounter that you can use the Way of the Warrior's reroll on, this is basically appropriate enough fluff to justify it. It's still a life-endangering threat, after all.

Not too bad, not too great. Will it do? Let's find out.
Piccolo's got a sad backstory, man.
>>
You can feel an immediate difference now that the you have a layer of separation between the frosty air and your skin. The icy winds no longer cut through you like a knife, though every breath you take does require you to take in some of it regardless - at least you're no longer hemorrhaging heat like blood from a mortal wound. You climb back up to the top of the jagged plateaus to resume your search, though you mentally admit that you might have to work your way up to enduring the greatest challenge that Yunzabit Heights has to offer.

Five hours later, you think you've narrowed it down to the northern half of the island - there, the winds seem to blow far stronger, almost like cold air is being sucked towards the mainland. The ravines, you've found, provide decent enough shelter from the eternal hurricanes of the island, and you take advantage of that whenever you need to take a break from the climate. It's there, on the northern half of the island, that you find something else out of the ordinary - one of the columns that make up the plateaus has a web of cracks throughout the stone like something hit it with extreme force, though it can't have been something particularly large given the size of the point of impact - just something that was flung with great speeds, you figure.

While you're looking around the area, you think you find out exactly why the damage was there - nearby is one particular area where the winds not only seem to blow you around side to side, but actually try to lift you into the air as they curve up from a nearby ravine. You can see how something, or someone, would be taken off guard by that - if you hadn't dug your hands into the dirt when it kicked up, it likely would have thrown you into that very same pillar. That'd have been a nasty hit, you're certain. Still...you think you've found exactly what you were looking for here, as you can't imagine a more tricky spot to train in. Nodding at Harum and Barbar, the three of you come to one of your classic silent understandings.

While you wish you could say you mastered Yunzabit Heights in only a single day, that's not even close to being the case. Four months - four months of nonstop hell is what you ultimately had to endure before you could safely say that you conquered it. In the first month, you'd slowly but surely mastered the cloak of ki you used to keep the cold at bay, but that still couldn't protect you from what you had to breathe in. And so, in the second month, you refined the circulation of your ki to regulate your internal temperature as well, finally negating the need to retreat from the weather every few hours.
>>

315 KB
315 KB PNG
In the third month, you'd managed to develop a way to keep yourself grounded despite the force of the gales that threatened to batter you around - by projecting a slight but constant amount of ki upwards, you'd force your feet into the ground and provide stability. It made it harder to move normally, but in an environment like this it was a marked improvement; in a more normal location, it'd be a good way to stop yourself from being uprooted in a fight, you suppose. Throughout the fourth month, you actually managed to jump into sparring with Harum and Barbar, learning how to move effectively in these conditions and even how to take advantage of the unpredictable winds to make it harder to both hit you and defend against your blows. Your companions fared similarly, of course, so nobody was clearly above the others quite yet.

You had finished off the massive octopus by the end of the second month, of course, so you did have to spend some time fishing from the surrounding seas to replenish your foodstocks every now and then between training. A lot of the sealife in this area seemed remarkably dangerous by your standards - eels that could somehow shock you if you touched them, some weird blobby creatures that made pain radiate throughout your body when you touched their tendrils but otherwise seemed fine once you boiled them, and one particularly bold shark that broke his teeth on your body. They each provided some unique flavors and textures, of course, but you wish you'd been able to bring the cooking supplies you left in the truck canopy - sadly, they were just too bulky to effectively take with you.

You'd found another cave with drawings similar to the one before it near your training grounds, and every night you had taken shelter in it. Azalea actually had actually grown a small but cozy looking fairy ring within it using some spores she'd apparently had tucked away, and had spent the past four months working on something within it. Whatever it was, she was surprisingly tight-lipped
>>
Regardless of your stay and the slow but steady improvements you gained from it, you now feel as though there's not much else to learn from staying longer. You never fully scoured the island, of course, so you can't be certain if you missed something important like the beast you suspect prowls these parts or perhaps the person that may or may not still be stranded here, but given the weathering and age of those drawings you somehow doubt that they'd be around. Even the beast may have died of old age at some point, in a place so devoid of resources like this.

Given how much time you spent here, you can at least afford a few more hours to search it head to toe for any secrets that might have been hidden from you during your stay. This time, searching the island is a significantly easier endeavor thanks to all the practice you had in resisting both the force and the chill of the shrieking storm that even still tries to besiege you nonstop, though finally to no avail. It took you only three hours to cover the vast majority of the island, which was dotted with just a few more caves with sentimental drawings and even a little constructed mud-man overgrown with moss hiding in the back of one, but you hardly find anything of interest until you drop down into a ravine that you'd barely missed before with your route around the central area of the island.

Sitting in the crevasse, plain as day to anyone with the right angle on it, is an impressively large...artpiece, you think? You hop down to it to get a closer look, marvelling at the size of such an ill-fitting object. It's clearly been put through its paces over the years from neglect, with moss starting to grow on its limbs and some kind of a glassy substance that could be a window dull and iced-over. The object looks like it's made out of some kind of a hardened clay or ceramic almost, and Harum seems intensely curious to inspect it.

"I think this is some kind of a ceramic metal composite!" Harum shouts to you and Barbar, tapping it in a few different places with his knuckles while he presses his ear to it. He furrows his brow for a few moments, rubbing his hand along the surface to feel the texture. "It almost has an organic texture to it, though! Kind of reminds me of a snail's shell!" He follows up, earning a look of surprise from you.

"You're telling me this is a snail shell?!" You shout back in askance. Harum laughs, shaking his head.

"No, I don't think so! I think...that it's some kind of a home, if I had to guess! I don't know why they would have it suspended off the ground, but the architecture isn't like anything I've ever seen!" He shoots back, now starting to circle the object in his examination.

"Think it belongs to whoever left those drawings?" You ask, feeling a small amount of confusion setting in but unsure why.

"Maybe! But...I don't think they built it, even if that's the case! The person who left the drawings...had the intellect of a child!" He explains, feeling something along the bottom of the ship now. "And there's no signs of anything they would have needed to construct it! No forges, no residues, nothing got mined out! Either they arrived with it somehow, or someone else built it here but left no other signs of their presence! Also...I'm pretty sure there's a hatch here! Maybe it's some kind of a vehicle?" He follows up.

"Maybe it's an experimental plane!" You offer, things starting to click a little bit for you. "Easy for something like that to crash out here, right? Or have to make an emergency landing!"
>>
"Could be! Looks pretty old for that kind of technology, though! It's been here a real long time, see the moss?" He points out. Hmm...you'll have to refine your theory, looks like. "Hey, listen...I know you guys are going to try to find this Korin guy next! I love you guys, but I think I want to stay here a little bit longer! I want to get inside this thing, learn more about it! Could take me months, I don't want to break anything. You ever need me...you have my number! And I'll get in touch with you as soon as I'm done!" He admits to his desire.

"Harum..." you start, hesitating at the thought of separating from one of your closest friends. But, in the end...you can see the enthusiasm in his eyes. No, you won't take something like this from him - you can see why something like this would interest him so greatly, given his background in engineering. "I should be saying that it's the other way around! You need us, we'll be there in a heartbeat!" You say, stepping towards the gorilla man and clapping your right hand onto his. He laughs, pulling you in and patting your back as you simultaneously do the same.

"It's not goodbye! It's just see-you-later, alright? Now go drink some water, you overgrown kitten!" He says. And with that, you part ways with one of your friends, heading back towards the mainland with one less person on the journey. You can only hope that you're prepared for what trials may await you at Korin's Tower...

You know aside from the ki claws we should get some kind of tiger themed Falcon Punch
>>

Falcon punch sounds like it would be a punch version of the dodon ray fron the crane school techniques.

We should develop some sort of defensive technique based on our time in yunzabit where we make "stripes" made of ki around our body. If we're gonna eventually become the third master we should get some thematic signature techniques

On the topic of this aswell, we should name our techniques in the same vein as
Kamehameha/dodon-pa etc

Off the top of my head, I'd suggest a palm strike with all the Ki Reinforcement we can muster behind it. Exceedingly simple so it probs wouldn't be a Master class technique but I can see Honta coming up with it as he is right now.
Dunno about the name though. Tiger's Paw?

>We should develop some sort of defensive technique based on our time in yunzabit where we make "stripes" made of ki around our body. If we're gonna eventually become the third master we should get some thematic signature techniques
You're onto something here Anon. I wonder if this would play into Honta's Internalization speciality.
How ridiculous do we want to be with Honta's high-end technique names? Roshi had a mouthful of a shock technique he used during the first Budokai tournament against Goku IIRC
>>
>>5583781
As long as it's not something you can chuck at someone, I'll classify it as internalization. If it remains attached to you, you can still cycle your ki through it, which is what I reckon matters most. I think it might help to think of it as temporary extensions of the body. You've altered the flow of your ki to appear outside of your flesh, but it's still very much a part of that flow.

Rolled 13, 11, 20, 15 = 59 (4d20)

Almost done with the update, just have to do Barbar's check real quick.
>>
The trip back across the sea was a far simpler task than before, since both you and Barbar had the foresight to use Harum's method of combining sheer speed and the air-step technique to reliably sprint atop the surface of the churning waters. After a few minutes you step back onto the beaches of the mainland, and Azalea comes out of your bag to both stretch and bask in the small amount of sunlight peeking out from the clouds that always seem to drift towards Yunzabit. It's not her first sight of the sun's rays in four months, but you can definitely say that cloudless days are a definite rarity there for some reason.

"I'm gonna miss Harum...but I'm definitely not gonna miss that place! I would have been turned into paste on a windshield if I didn't stay in shelter the whole time. I hope he'll be alright by himself out there..." Azalea comments, flying backwards while facing Yunzabit.

"He'll be fine. He kept up with us, despite learning at an older age than we did." Barbar comments, causing you to blink and look to Barbar.

"What age did you start to learn how to fight...?" You ask out of curiosity, Barbar's mustache twitching for a moment.

"My training started when I was ten. I was considered a warrior, and thus an adult, when I was fifteen. You took to the lessons with far more vigor and soaked up the information like a sponge, comparatively." He admits, tucking his arms behind his back.

"Well, you know how it goes! People who are in touch with their instincts can draw on the depths of their potential in times of need! I bet you'd have grown a lot faster if you had to face demons when you were ten, too!" Azalea points out, which...honestly isn't something that you'd heard before. But now that you think about it, a cornered animal does fight a lot harder than otherwise - maybe that kind of desperation is what she's talking about?

"I don't know anything about potential, I just wanted to learn from someone I thought was really cool!" You admitted, earning a blush from the otherwise unphaseable warrior.

"Hm. And your reason for continuing your training?" He asks, causing you to think for a few moments.

"Partly because it calls to me. It's like I can smell something on the wind that drives me to seek greater challenges, and I can't explain it any other way. I want to push myself to my absolute limits, and then see what lies even further beyond." You reply, glancing down at your hand as you examine your clawlike nails.

"And the other part?" He follows up, causing you to grin.

"I'm planning to make a style I can call my own someday. Something that really embodies everything I'm about. I don't quite know what that means yet, but I'm sure that I'll find out eventually. Not just a way to fight, but a way to live." You admit. "But that's in the future. I prefer to focus on what's right in front of me." You follow up, getting a nod from both Barbar and Azalea.

The conversation turns a lot more casual after that, and the three of you pass through a smaller city known as Yahhoy on your way to the Land of Korin. You're not ashamed to admit that you spent a day there to enjoy a relaxed day with your friends, specifically having gone to the local carnival to see what these 'amusement rides' were like and watch Azalea magically make a watermelon-sized mass of cotton candy disappear. You also got your faces painted, with Barbar getting his done like a lizard, Azalea getting hers done like a harlequin, and you breaking the mold by getting yours done like a rabbit...for the luck, of course! You even get some pictures out of it, which you quietly tuck away in a safe spot of your bag so it wouldn't get damaged.

Once your day of relaxation is over, you pick up the pace and run with Barbar towards the land of Korin, getting there by noon. You can see the tower clearly jutting up into the sky long before you arrive, imposing with a huge disc or orb nestled at the top. You do have to maneuver through some forest paths to get there, but it's hardly any trouble at all for someone with as much experience in the untamed woods as you have. There, tucked away in a clearing around Korin's tower, seems to be an outcrop of colorful painted tents. Tanned people walk around, many of them looking at your arrival with curiosity, though the majority seem preoccupied with whatever daily tasks they may need to do. Several of them seem to be carving into large plates of stone that have been set up near one of the larger tents, of which the plates look strikingly similar to the reliefs carved onto Korin's tower.

As you approach the tower itself, an old man steps out of the tent closest to it, stepping in your path to presumably speak to you. He's supported by a gnarled wooden staff that must be as ancient as he based on how worn it looks, and has copious amounts of colorful paint decorating his face, alongside an equally colorful feather headdress on. "Welcome, visitors, to the Sacred Lands of Korin." he says, shakily offering his free hand.

You shake it without a moment's hesitation, of course, smiling. "Thanks! You have a beautiful village out here. Do you get many guests?" You ask, earning a chuckle from the old man after he retracts his hand.

"Oh, no, not so much these days. Those who do come are more interested in the tower than the village, of course. Is that not why you came?" He asks, gesturing to the tower behind him.

"It is, but we're not in such a hurry that we can't admire your village. It reminds me a lot of home, actually!" You reply, Barbar apparently nodding as well...huh, you'll have to ask him what his home was like, if this looks similar to him.

"Oh, how surprising. Most visitors come from the cities. Then again, your clothes do look to be quite worn...did you come from far away on foot?" He inquires, looking at your admittedly ratty clothes. You, too, look down at them now that they've been mentioned.

"Ah...kind of. We've been training in Yunzabit Heights for the past few months. But I'm actually from the village of the Three Great Forests, and Barbar's from a nomadic tribe." You respond, gesturing to your friend.

"Mm. Diablo Desert." Barbar grunts out, to give some insight as to where his origins lie. You'll keep that in mind...

"My, my...that's quite far. Well, if you're not in a hurry, would you mind having a chat with this old man for a bit? Spend a day or two recuperating from your travels before your attempt to climb the tower. It will do your body much good, I assure you." He suggests.

You're a little eager to get right in to it, but out of politeness, you end up accepting the old man's offer. That night you enjoy some unique dishes that day with the locals, and try your hand at some kind of game where you hit a ball into a goal using only your hips - with you and Barbar on opposing teams to make it fair, of course. You won only thanks to your more nimble stature, you think.

You ended up telling the old man and his family about some of your adventures upon his prompting, which clearly amazes them. In turn, they tell you of the history of the sacred land of Korin - how the tower itself is a perpetually growing tree rather than a true tower, which his people decorate with stone slabs every five years to honor an ancient hero by the name of Olibu who saved the peoples of the world several times over with his various feats, and was eventually buried at the base of the tree that would become Korin's Tower. Korin himself is said to be a wise and powerful spirit sent from the Otherworld to guard the Sacred Water in his possession, so that only the worthy could imbibe it, and his divine guidance and protection eventually saw both the tower and the lands around it being named after him.

The next morning, you thank the members of the Karinga tribe profusely for their hospitality while you limber up for your ascension. They wish you luck, and you share a look with Barbar to confirm that both of you are ready. You both hug opposite sides of the massive pillar simultaneously, and begin to climb. And climb...and climb...and climb. After half a day of climbing, you feel as though you're not even halfway up - you're quite thankful that your training in both the mountains and at Yunzabit Heights prepared you for such repetive and draining feats. Barbar, it seems, takes even better to the climbing than you do thanks to his experiences, flinging himself from each handhold to the next without a moment's hesitation or rest. You lose sight of him at nightfall, but after a full day and a half of climbing - which leaves you quite exhausted, if you're being honest - you finally make it to the very top of the tower.

You're not exactly afraid of heights, but looking down to see just how high up you are makes you gulp regardless. Carefully, you push yourself off the pillar to leap into the air and away from the tower, before using the Air Step technique to bounce back towards it and through the balcony, tucking into a tight roll so you don't clip anything and untucking to land on your feet. There, you see Barbar enjoying a cup of tea with...a rather bulky looking cat, which simply raises the cup to its lips to sip as you enter.

"So, this is that Honta you mentioned? Hm. Smells like my cousin Akko. I never liked Akko." The cat says, stunning you. Beastmen can talk, sure, but this is just an outright cat! Or...no, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Maybe this is just a remarkably small beastman. The cat snaps you out of your thoughts by setting its teacup down and standing up, clutching a cane far bigger than it.

"Yes, my name is Honta! It's a pleasure to meet you..." You say, trailing off since you don't know the cat's name.

"Korin. Ain't it obvious, kid?" He replies.

"Ah! Korin. So, you're the spirit from the otherworld that guards the Sacred Water?" You ask, getting a nod from the cat.

"Yeah, that's right. Your friend already told me what you were here for, but I'll tell you the same thing I told him. You ain't worthy." Korin says, lifting his cane up to gesture to the window you jumped in from. "So you might as well head back the way you came. Your effort was pointless."

"H-hang on a moment, Korin, Sir! I'm not only interested in the water! Actually...we came here for you, first and foremost!" You say, waving your hands to stop him from being hasty.

"Hm? Is that so? Why's that?" Korin asks, raising an eyebrow.

"To learn from you, of course! You're Master Korin, one of - if not the - greatest martial artist on the world! Or at least, that's what I've heard." you explain, causing the cat's brows to furrow. A strange expression for a cat to make....
>>
"I see. So you're not here just to drink some magic water and grow stronger, huh? Alright then. I'll consider it...but on one condition." He says, holding one of his claws up like a finger. "You have to take the Sacred Water from me. If you do that, not only will I allow you to drink it, but I'll personally train 'ya. But the two of you can't take it at the same time - you gotta take turns. Otherwise it's not fair, see?" He follows up.

You look to barbar, and both of you nod. Simultaneously, you say "Yes. We accept." and mentally prepare to face off against Korin in order to seize the sacred water...but how did you want to do it?

>Outplay him somehow, through trickery or other mental superiority.

Pretty clear consensus! That's good, a singleminded approach will do you well here. Of course, persistence is going to be key here as well. At least you won't be unintentionally subverting the lessons that Korin is trying to impart here!

I won't have a 1 cancel the 20 even if we roll one, so let's have a quick sub-vote that I'll be leaving up overnight.
Choose FOUR of the following techniques to learn:
>Flight: An upgrade of the Air Step, which enables you to take to the skies. All around useful, but draining at your current level.
>Afterimage: A technique first invented by Korin, where blinding speed is combined with a burst of ki to leave a momentary phantom image of yourself behind.
>Ki sensing: The ability to feel the lifeforce of others, a vital technique to gauging the strength of your opponents and sensing them when you'd otherwise be unable to.
>Telepathy: The ability to not only communicate with others through thought alone, but to read unprotected minds if you so choose. You could also technically annoy someone by speaking into their thoughts without their wish.
>Far-Seeing Arts (Requires TELEPATHY): The ability to project your senses outward, observing the world beyond what anyone would normally be capable of. Often regarded as a technique of gods, though dedicated mortals are still entirely capable of learning it.
>Sandakoru: A technique to imbue the clouds with your ki such that they produce a fierce bolt of lightning that is called down upon your target. Great to attack from an unexpected angle, or against a target you don't have a direct line on.

Far-seeing arts seems good, too, but telepathy seems intrusive and impolite for our kindly young man Honta.
>>

Telepathy is as polite as you use it. There is a great deal you can do with being able to touch another's mind that doesn't involve barging in.
For one, it's the basis of mental sparring.

did somebody say SPIRITUAL SENSE?
>Sandakoru: A technique to imbue the clouds with your ki such that they produce a fierce bolt of lightning that is called down upon your target. Great to attack from an unexpected angle, or against a target you don't have a direct line on.
And I don't see flight being too necessary at our currently level, but this would do great to knock down any opponents who could actually fly and who think they're too far away to attack.
>>
>>5584238
I guess. It just feels sketchy as a power to have, and I'm voting base don that gut-feel because it feels like something Honta might do when deciding where to focus his efforts.

Combined with our beast man senses, nothing would be able to get past us. also a bit of meta but if we are gonna become a master one day these could be great teaching tools for students.

>Flight: An upgrade of the Air Step, which enables you to take to the skies. All around useful, but draining at your current level.

While i feel it could be a bit cheap to get this early, the "draining at current level" bit makes me feel it would be great to have at current level to start training it early.

I also don't see a use for Flying for now, we already have mobility with being able to graps air, and being able to attack from the clouds would be useful for fighting against those who can it's a nice countermessure
>>
>>5584457
i think whats most attractive about flight is it would make traveling a lot easier once we master it removing the need for something like the nimbus or another vehicle. (it would also be funny since flying was originally something Shen taught as his own technique IIRC)

Basically, prioritizing our detection and comms ability. It makes more sense to focus on these while we develop a bigger ki reservoir.

Also, these skills will be probably be most useful as we explore the world and seek out secrets, other masters, etc

You wanted to take the water from him fair and square, to beat him at his own game to prove your worth. In your mind, nothing else would have been acceptable - trying to trick him or simply exhaust him would defeat the point of taking the water, you're sure. This was about showing that you had potential worth training, after all.

While you were undoubtably expecting it to be a difficult task, you hardly expected it to be as hard as it ultimately proved to be. No matter what you did, how you approached him, or even whatever unorthodox methods you used, Korin eluded you for hours on end. Every time you thought you'd gotten close to grabbing it, your hands met with nothing but thin air, the image of Korin dissipating as your fingers swiped through it. Countless times he slipped past your grasp, bonked you on the head, vaulted over you, slid under your legs, even simply parried your comparatively clumbsy attempts to grab it. When you thought to take his cane fully after baiting him into a bonk, you succeeded only to find that he'd transferred the jeweled pot of sacred water to his tail.

Even with your bountiful reserves of energy, after a day and a half of climbing and another half of day exerting your full effort to try to catch Master Korin, your youthful vigor eventually petered out by the time night fell. Korin looked none the worse for wear, and when you plopped down panting and covered in sweat, he simply put the sacred water back up on its pedestal. "Looks like today's a bust, huh kid? Maybe we'll have better luck tomorrow. Time to call it a night and get some rest. Oh, and before I forget, here's dinner." Your new feline master says, throwing something at you.

Catching it, you open your hand to see that it's a single but miniscule bean. "H-huh? Is this some kind of ascetic training?" You ask, surprised by the expected size of dinner.

Azalea crawls out of one of your pockets, taking a peek at it before piping up. "Ooooh! One of Korin's Senzu Beans! Every Fairy has heard about them, they're the mark of a master botanist!" She remarks, getting a chuckle from the cat.

"That's right. And I'm the only one in the past four hundred years to cultivate them successfully. They're very picky little sprouts, ya know. But it's worth the effort, because a single bean can feed you for ten whole days." He says, getting enthusiastic nods from Azalea.

"But that's not all! They make Fairy Dust look like snake oil! They can heal practically any kind of injury, even if you're on death's door, without leaving anything but a memory of it afterwards! And It'll fill you with so much energy that you'll be bouncing off the walls!" Azalea follows up on Korin's statement.
>>
"Jeeze, looks like we've got a bit of a fangirl here. Don't go giving away all my secrets, or I'll flick you off the tower. Actually, maybe I should do that anyways, you didn't exactly climb up here..." Korin threatens with a slightly joking tone you can sense, though Azalea apparently takes it seriously and hides back in your pocket while babbling about asking for forgiveness. Chuckling at the antics, you put the bean in your mouth, biting down.

As you can expect from an uncooked bean, it's a bit hard to bite down on, and crunches nicely almost like celery. They have a fresh fishlike flavor to them that you'd compare to salmon if you had to guess, and you can't help but wonder what kind of ingredients would pair best with it if you tried to make a dish...then again, that's probably not a great idea, since you'd only be able to eat one bite. After all, once you swallow, you feel positively stuffed within ten seconds - and though you're not exactly bouncing off the walls with energy like Azalea claimed, you feel completely reinvigorated and ready for round two...though it didn't exactly get rid of your mental fatigue. You still need to sleep, after all.

After having your nightly chat with Love, in which you gushed about how amazingly fast Master Korin was and may have quietly admitted that you wanted to see if his fur was as soft as most cats, you slept like a log. When you wake up the next day, it's to Master Korin nudging you with his foot in the early hours of the morning. You stare at him dumbly, your brain not turned on quite yet, and he stares back.

"It's a new day, kid. But before we get to our game of cat and mouse, I need you to pick up some vital supplies from the tribe down there. It's very important, so be quick about it, alright?" He says, and once you register the words you gulp.

"All the way back down and up again? A...Alright, I'll try to be quick about it, Master Korin." You say, not looking forward to having to climb this beast of a tower once more. At least the way down is going to be fairly quick, as once you're presentable again, you simply jump over the tower's railing and start rocketing down. Every few seconds, you use Air Step to slow your momentum, before you tuck into a tight roll and land on all-fours on the grass down below, your weight distributed perfectly.

Once you get the supplies, which seem to be a rather huge sack of various goods like milk bottles, rice, and preserved fish, you strap it to your back and begin the ascent once more. What took you a day and a half before now only takes you six hours, and though your muscles are still very much sore from it, it's nowhere near as bad as it was your first time around. You set the sack down with a sigh, announcing to Korin that you're back.
>>
"Impressive work, kid. Looks like you've already improved a ton, huh? I'll put the groceries away, then we can start." Korin compliments, and you dutifully help him put things where they go. He seems grateful, if a little confused by the assistance - you think he expected you to take the time to rest up.

You're a lot lighter on your feet with today's attempt at seizing the sacred water, and you'd bet that if cats could sweat, Korin would be sweating with how much closer you get to taking it from him. Although there's plenty of close calls, even after yet another full day of trying to take it, you simply can't outdo Korin - the improvement is welcome, of course, but he's even more slippery than an eel coated in grease. Trying to corner him is impossible with his mobility, and every time you think you've got him he finds some way to trip you up.

Your next day starts the same way, though you cut six hours down to a mere three on your trip back up the tower - this time you had to haul a bunch of heavy clay instead of food supplies, apparently needed for Korin's pottery hobby. You think you could have done it in two, maybe even one hour if you didn't have to keep hauling a bunch of heavy stuff up there!

At the end of the third day, through sheer persistence, you end up seizing the Sacred Water from Korin. Your rapid physical improvement was hardly the only factor with it, of course - you also had started to learn the patterns in Korin's movements, being able to judge when he would feint, when he was actually there or simply one of those illusions he uses, and precisely how he'd react to you in different scenarios. In fact, you were able to outdo him when you used the principles of the Way of the Warrior to bait him into bounding off one of the pillars dotting the inside of the tower; you knew exactly where he'd bounce to, and intercepted him before he could react with the help of a bedsheet that you immediately restrained him in.

"Hey, what gives- oh, hey, that's pretty nice actually..." Korin says, indignant at first before the allure of a warm bedsheet immediately causes him to fall asleep and start to snore. You release him from the sheets and pick up the jug of sacred water, setting it aside - you already earned it, but you wanted to wait until Barbar earned it as well to actually drink it. After a twenty-minute catnap from Korin, he woke up back up to congratulate you.

"Well, you did it. I guess you'll be my first ever student, then. Nobody's ever been able to take the Sacred Water from me before, and I had one guy try every day for ten years! You did it in only three days. You're definitely worth training, kid..." He said, floating up to pat you on the head. Then, he slowly rotated towards Barbar.
>>
"Time for your turn, then. No pressure or anything, though! I'm sure you're not getting too old to keep up, heh heh." Korin taunted him, eliciting a twitch of Barbar's mustache. Unfortunately for Barbar, Korin may actually be right, because while it took you only three days to get the Sacred Water...Barbar took nearly three months, having been similarly tasked to climb the pillar every morning before he was allowed to try to take it again. His rate of progress had been slower than yours, though still explosive by any normal person's standards. Whenever Barbar was climbing the tower or resting between his attempts to catch Korin, the feline martial artist taught you the ins and outs of ki, able to go into greater detail than what you suspect even Mutaito may have known of.

You first learned how to feel the ki of others, to detect the subtle changes of your own ki whenever it tastes the ki of others. It was very much like developing an entirely new sense, one wholly different to things like sight and smell. It was full of information that was difficult to grasp at first, but eventually you learned that you could tell how someone was feeling through how their ki seemed - you could feel if they were angry, or calm, and there was even a bit of tension that told you if they were planning to trick you somehow.

This skill developed into what Korin called Telepathy, allowing you to touch your mind to another through your ki. It usually worked best with direct contact, but he told you that the best telepaths in the universe could even reach out to someone from the Otherworld - certainly an amazing feat, by your estimate. While you developed the skill, you tested it out every day with Azalea, holding conversations with her that would otherwise take hours in just minutes and relaying pictures, memories, moments, things that would be impossible to explain with mere words. It was a little difficult to get errant thoughts not to transfer through with it, which lead to a bit of teasing every now and then, but she took it easy on you. On that note, you actually found that Telepathy could work through the magic stone that Love gave you, which was a good surprise to both of you! Apparently as long as you were both touching the stones, it was like you were touching each other as far as the technique was concerned.
>>
Continuing even further along that line of training, you came to master the rather difficult "Far-Seeing Arts", as Korin called them. Just as sensing Ki prepared you to learn Telepathy, Telepathy prepared you to learn this: you extended not only your mind through your ki, but all of your other senses as well. It took a great deal of focus and a calm heart, but eventually you found that you could see from places you weren't, project your sight out hundreds of meters! You could even take a stroll through the forest down below without ever physically moving from your cross-legged position up in the tower. Your range was a little limited as is, but Korin explained that as you grew more sensitive and powerful, so too would the range on the technique - some could cover the entire world with the technique, while another might even be able to observe entire galaxies. The scale involved in that boggled you, admittedly.

The last technique you learned from him wasn't an extension of the previous methods, but rather the only offensive technique that Korin knew of - you actually learned of it when a helicopter tried to make its way over to spy on Korin's tower, only to be deterred by lightning striking it from the nearby clouds. You had asked Korin about it, and he called it Sandakoru - an esoteric method of imbuing your ki within the skies around you such that you can call lightning down upon someone whenever you wished. It actually didn't take you as long to learn as the other techniques did, as you were already familiar with how to transform ki into electricity thanks to Flash Lightning - this was a lot like storing the technique in another medium to release it when you wanted.

When Barbar finally got the Sacred Water, he triumphantly gulped some of it down, waiting to see the increase in power...though you didn't really feel anything different in him. You drank some of it yourself right after, but after an awkward minute of waiting to see what would happen, you both turned to Korin for an answer.

"Oh, I didn't say? The Sacred Water is just ordinary tap water. It can't make you any stronger unless you're dehydrated. The real power was what you gained by trying to get it. You're in a completely different league than when you first climbed my tower, you know?" He points out. Your eyes widen in recognition...of course! He was actually training you from the moment you proved you could climb the tower! That trickster! Barbar, of course, had an irritated look on his face from that.

"I don't know whether I should be pissed off or not." He admits, flexing an arm to confirm his own progress, but obviously still miffed about the lie.
>>
"If it makes ya feel any better, you're the second person to have ever successfully drank the Sacred Water. That's somethin to be proud of, right?" Korin offers, earning a grumble but a nod from the old warrior. "Good, ya see it my way. Now, these past three months have been a blast an' all, but I've been seriously missing out on a lot of cat naps, so it's time for ya to go. But seein' as you're such good sports and all, I'll let you go with a parting gift and a few words." He says, snapping his fingers.

A bright yellow cloud parts from the surrounding clouds, zipping into the tower and floating next to Korin. He pats the cloud affectionately. "This is the Flying Nimbus. You can ride it anywhere you'd like...as long as you're pure of heart. It's my gift to you, my first ever students." He says, bowing his upper body to you in a sign of respect, which all three of you - including Azaleal, despite the fact that she never trained under Korin - reciprocate.

"As for what I have to say, it's simple but serious. If you truly seek to improve yourself beyond what you thought possible, then I'd recommend seeking an audience with the great Kami. Kami's Lookout can actually be reached from this very tower, but you have to show absolute respect! And if he rejects you, there's no ifs ands or buts about it - you gotta leave immediately." He says, pointing directly up towards the roof of the tower.

"There's also another avenue of power, but it's not one I can recommend. I do in fact have something called Ultra Divine Water that truly can unleash your full potential, but it's incredibly deadly to those who aren't strong enough to withstand it. No human has ever survived drinking it - it was never made with mortals in mind. I can send you to where that water is kept, but I can't do anything if it kills ya. I really wouldn't recommend it." He adds, his tone grave.

Interesting...your options expanded even more, it looks like.
>Visit Kami. You're right here, and he sounds impressive. Maybe he'd even be willing to be your next teacher...?
>Brave the trial of the Ultra Divine Water. It's dangerous and may well kill you, but unleashing your full potential is awfully tempting.
>Seek Baba next, this mystery figure isn't too far from Korin's Tower, you think! You want to see how much Yang has progressed since you last saw her.
>Head towards the Red Sea, to seek Spice's master. It's fairly close, and you've changed enormously since you last saw Spice, even if it was only in passing. Maybe you can feel if he's truly evil for yourself, now...
>Make a trip back to Teal's Castle! You've spent a little over a year and a half dating Love, you want to see if it'll be the same in-person!
>Something else?

Oh, and this is for you to decide, dear readers:
>Honta is still pure-hearted at this point.
>Honta is still a good-boy, but sadly not pure-hearted anymore. Impure thoughts can happen to anyone! Especially with teasing fairies and the bath incident.

"Thank you very much for taking the time to train us, Master Korin. And for both the advice and the gift." You say, both you and Barbar bowing to him again. Moving over to the floating cloud, you tentatively touch it, and notice that it's soft but actually tangible - you'd liken the feeling to a marshmallow. Barbar, too, tries to grab a piece of the Flying Nimbus...but his hand goes straight through it without any hesitation.

"Hm. To be expected. I have shed too much blood on the battlefield to still be pure of heart, it seems." Barbar says, an edge of disappointment in his tone. Azalea pinches and pulls at the fluffy material of the cloud with her own measure of curiosity, before plopping down on it, apparently considered pure enough for it. You climb up on top of it, bouncing a few times like you would on a bed. It's springy!

"Kind of feels like boobs!" Azalea comments loudly, immediately falling through the moment she speaks...and causing you to fall through as well thanks to the intrusive thoughts that follow. Korin stares at the comedy routine with a bead of sweat building up on his forehead.

"Well...it looks like you're still mostly pure. Just be careful not to think any bad thoughts if you're real high up. Nimbus is real picky about things like that." The feline advises you, before turning to look out to the sky. He holds his cane aloft and calls out "Dark Nimbus!", which sees a much darker cloud you would liken to a stormcloud to separate from its peers and head over here. Korin gestures from it to Barbar.

"This one might suit an impure heart like you better. Anyone can ride it, but you better watch out, because the Dark Nimbus isn't loyal to anyone but me. It'll follow anyone's commands unless I tell it otherwise." He explains, getting a nod from Barbar. Just as Korin said, the Dark Nimbus proves to be solid footing for Barbar as he climbs up on it.

"Thank you...Master Korin." The old warrior grunts out, tucking his arms behind his back as he then glances over to you. "Do you have a plan as to where we'll be going next?" He asks you. You hop back up to your feet, and climb back on top of the Flying Nimbus with a little more caution than before now, and hum to yourself as you think.
>>
"I'm thinking we try to find that Baba character that Yang was supposed to be training under. Supposedly she's really talented with magic, and magic is always pretty cool! Besides, it's been ages since Yang and I last talked." You say, nodding resolutely. The hardest part about traveling the world is definitely how you always seem to end up parting ways with some of the friends you make along the way, that's for sure.

"That old hag? Eeyuch. I met her once when I was playing poker up on the lookout with Kami, and she ruined the game by dropping a huge stack of paperwork on him and telling him it needed done by sundown. Something about building permits for a new room he was adding on to the lookout. Anyways, she smells like she eats way too much garlic and onion." Korin speaks critically of Baba, waving a hand in front of his nose.

With a laugh at Korin's antics, you give him a final wave goodbye, and urge the Nimbus to shoot off into the skies. With the help of the Nimbus, it'll be a piece of cake to fly to your next destination! All you have to do is keep your mind clear all the way to Baba's, how hard could that be?

You can't help but scream out as you plummet through the air from what must be tens of thousands of feet up, the landscape below you rapidly growing. Sure, Air Step can definitely save you here, but you were getting a little too comfortable with the Nimbus after it proved to be fairly reliable and fast. You may have taken it up a little too far, and even pushed it to go faster and faster to test the limits of the speedy little cloud. You HAD been having a blast with it, while Azalea was watching the scenery blow by beneath the cloud with amazement...when the wind whipped around her just right so that you could see the color white.

Not one to dwell on your folly or the fear of breaking your bones on the ground below, you use Mutaito's technique to slow your rate of descent rapidly while Azalea tries to Coax the Nimbus to circle back around to you. Ultimately, Barbar ends up catching you out of the air on his Dark Nimbus, holding you under his arm like a sack of potatos and looking at you with a raised eyebrow. Your face flushes, but thankfully enough for you, the Warrior either doesn't care enough to or he has enough tact not to ask about the slipup.

The Dark Nimbus meets up with the much brighter, golden-colored Flying Nimbus after a moment, and you tentatively hop back on over to it. Thankfully you've banished what you saw from your mind, so it seems to accept you for now, but it feels like the Nimbus is watching you warily despite its lack of...well, any features at all. You grin to Barbar, before glancing down to the now-considerably-closer landscape beneath you.

You actually notice a rather bizarre sight, now that you're not worried for your life. Just off the nearby coast seems to be a ship hoisting black sails, with skulls and crossed swords emblazoned on them. A massive metal skull rests at the head of the ship, with what looks an awful lot like a harvesting scythe of gargantuan proportions hovering in front of it, presumably to be used similar to a cutting wedge should it ram into something. The ship is actually in the middle of rising up from the sea, water pouring out of every surface that it can while it brings itself to bear.

Nearby is a much more normal looking ship, presumably one bearing cargo based on its size and considerably more modern construction, which starts to blare a horn in warning. You can't blame them - this is CLEARLY some kind of pirate ship, after all! It just strikes you as odd how anachronistic this particular one is, but you can worry about that later. You've gotta help!

>Board the ship, you'll beat them all by hand!
>Try out the Sandakoru, perhaps you can re-sink that ship from here.
>Prioritize the safety of the cargo ship, fly the nimbus over and disable the pirate's cannons!

Urging the Nimbus to fly towards the ship as quickly as it can, you slide your hands into the metal claws you made so long ago and begin to channel your ki through them. Your muscles tense as you get closer and closer, and when it's finally time you reach out to tear your empowered claws through the thick yet inferior iron that the cannons sticking out of the side of the pirate ship are made of. Instead of it being as smooth of a motion as you thought it'd be, the claws bite deep into the first cannon, which you have enough strength to carry along as it slams into the next one, and the next one, and before you know it you've actually ripped a terrible gash into the entire side of the ship as you rip all of the cannons out of the ship at once. As you finish the swiping motion, the cannons are launched out into the sea, sinking rapidly where you imagine they'll be lost for quite some time.

With the most immediate threat to the civilians taken care of, you go to circle the nimbus around the ship to take care of the weapons on the other side, bolstering your ki along your blades once more. However, rather unexpectedly for you, as soon as you approach the first gunport on that side you have to take evasive action as a gout of fierce flames shoot out from around the cannon. Barely maneuvering the Nimbus around it, you get some distance from the source of the fire, looking into the gunports to try to get a visual on whatever tried to attack you.

All you manage to make out are multiple red glowing points, each of them spaced out about as far as human eyes might be, before the bark of automatic gunfire snaps you out of your focus. Rather massive slugs start impacting your body and zooming through the nimbus at a rapid pace, none of them actually breaking your ki-hardened skin but leaving welts and stinging about as bad as a wasp with how much force they impart on you. With neither close nor far apparently safe, you make the decision to leap from the nimbus while it soars onward, tucking your body in close as you somersault through the air until you land on the deck of the ship on all fours, looking around wildly for the assailants.

While you actually do have a moment to collect yourself from the pirates electing to shoot ineffectually at the retreating nimbus, you quickly notice a clicking sound followed by those same bullets shooting up through the deck to blindly try to track you. Thankfully, with their lack of a sightline on you, you actually have an easy time of evading them as you dash forward. Barbar is coming in rapidly on the Dark Nimbus ready to follow your lead.

I guess Robots are the tiger's natural predator.
>>
You rush towards the side of the ship that you previously tore open, grabbing hold of the railing and turning a jump overboard into a tight swing that shoots you towards the interior. With your legs extended outward and tensed, your boots crash directly into the skull of one of the pirates, sending it toppling backwards from the sheer force. Shining red lights all turn to focus on you as your eyes adjust to the difference in light level, and what you see isn't at all what you expected when you boarded the ship.

The 'pirates' are all fierce looking automatons, robots with strangely elongated heads that bear a sharp fanged maw and gleaming cameras for eyes. A segmented tail with a dangerous looking barb on the end swings behind each of them, and it looks like there's a fair amount of variety in what passes for arms on them - some have actual arms with hands clutching sabers, while others have machineguns in place of hands, or entire flamethrowers built in place of the forearm. The body itself seems to be made of particularly thick material, and while you believe you'd be fully capable of breaking through it, you might have difficulties with the current numbers you're facing.

You dive to the side thanks to your quick reflexes once several of them start to open fire, while the saber-wielding ones advance on you menacingly. Planting your hands on the floor and somersaulting behind some of the cargo under here, you begin to charge ki into your fingers in preparation to use Flash Lightning on a couple of them - robots should be fairly susceptible to electrical attacks, after all. You swing out of cover and cry out "Flash Lightning!" as you release violent bursts of electricity from the tips of your fingers, which strike out at two separate robots.

The energy surges around them and crackles, causing the red lights of their eyes to flicker and grow brighter momentarily, before they direct their tails towards you and fire the arcs of electricity right back! Having not expected such a reversal, you cry out in pain as the currents run through your body, paralyzing you for a moment and leaving two smoking holes in your clothes where they first struck. You're sure that the skin under them must be similarly burnt, but you have no time for pain; with a surge of ki and willpower, you redirect the rest of the current into the floor as best you can, ending the paralysis in time to catch a scimitar between your hands. With a twist, you snap the blade in half, and shove it into the robot that swung it, causing it to fall over and spark.
>>
Hearing a separate commotion, you look over to find that Barbar himself seems to have entered the fray at some point, as he's on the opposite end of the ship and seems to have turned three of the robots into a crumpled mess himself already. With a shout, he gathers his energy around his outstretched hand and swipes with it - a technique you've seen Mutaito do before. You to duck down low as the energy flies out in a wide arc, sweeping through the majority of the robots and cutting those who couldn't escape it in half at the waist.

"Good work, Barbar! Now it's a lot more even!" You compliment your first teacher, channeling your ki through your metal claws once more in order to take a more direct approach to things. You rush towards one of the remaining groups, batting aside the large caliber rounds sent your way before cutting off the offending shooting arms with a harsh swing of your weapons. You parry another scimitar sent your way and effectively disembowel that one, cutting its torso open vertically and kicking it back right into a group of its friends. A good call, it seems, as an explosion consumed both it and its comrades soon after from having its critical components damaged.

The rest of the fight is rather simple with the majority of their numbers dealt with, and soon enough there's little more than twitching and sparking piles of scrap left over on the floor...alongside plenty of severed machine limbs and heads, of course. You idly wonder if it'd be worth saving any of them as a trophy, but disregard the thought soon after - you don't think you'd want to keep anything from robots that can potentially explode.

"It seems that would be the last of them. You took some damage, are you fine?" Barbar asks, gesturing primarily to the spots on your chest that got tazed. You tug your shirt outward to examine the charred material, clicking your tongue in irritation.

"My clothes had it worse than me. It hurt, but you've seen me get a lot more hurt. I'll be just fine, I think. Honestly just didn't expect those hunks of junk to use my own attack against me." You admit, glancing outside to see Azalea bringing the nimbus back towards the ship slowly but surely now that the fighting stopped.

"Mm. I do not think either of us could have expected them to be the opposite of vulnerable to such an attack." Barbar reassures you, patting you on the shoulder. It actually does make you feel a little better about it.

"True. Putting htat aside though...this ship is really weird, right? What do you think the deal with it is? It looks super old, but it's filled with robots? And I'm pretty sure I saw it rising up out of the sea when it first showed up." You ask, rubbing your chin.
>>
"I would not know. Perhaps mere decorations on some kind of advanced boat that can dive beneath the waters, either to put their victims off-guard or make them believe it is a supernatural occurrence." Barbar muses himself, brow furrowed. "It matters not. We should sink it, permanently, in my opinion. A significant loss to whoever made it, and a message."

Azalea, finally having arrived, chips in her two cents on the matter. "Ooh, wait! It might have treasure somewhere on it! Or maybe we can find a secret map to some super special buried treasure where they hide everything they steal! Wait, why would robots even want to steal something..." Azalea starts, before trailing off as she gets distracted by a tangenital thought.

They both make some solid points. But ultimately, you think that you should...

"I've got an even better idea. Let's see if we can make it head home! The top part is all torn up, but I'll bet there's a section below it we can hide out in once it dives underwater. Once it goes back home, we'll come out and punish the people who sent it out!" You decide, popping your fist into your palm to emphasize the kind of punishment you'd exact. With a quick nod between you three, you all split up to search the ship from top to bottom. It takes you longer than you care to admit before you find something, in no small part due to the huge amount of robot parts scattered all over the place, but eventually you manage to pick up on something odd - one of the crates below deck doesn't shift around like the other ones do.

Popping it open, you see that it's seemingly filled to the brim with dried fish at first glance...but there's actually only a couple dozen of them on closer inspection, with a solid painted layer about three fourths up the box. Chucking the fish out of it to get a better look, you find two holes suspiciously placed apart from each other at the center of it, and you get the idea to drag one of the severed tails of the robots over and insert it. Just like a key, it fits perfectly, and with a click the painted steel parts inward to reveal the hatch further into the ship. Calling the others over, you cautiously lower yourself through the fake crate.

You drop down into a surprisingly spacious underbelly lined with surprisingly high-tech looking readouts and consoles, no doubt where an organic pilot would be stationed if they ever needed to ride along. Thankfully enough for you, there doesn't seem to be one today, so all you have to do is figure out how to send this thing back home. You don't just go pressing random buttons of course, but you assume that not all of the pirates working with this group of robots would have been well-versed in machinery, so in that vein there must be a manual somewhere. With a bit of searching, you manage to find one and flip through it for about fifteen minutes before you feel confident you know how to set the autopilot.

You approach the console and type in a few commands, double-checking them on the manual to make sure they're right, and hit the Enter key. The false crate's hatch closes up and a hissing sound tells you that things are starting to pressurize, and a lurch informs you that the ship has started to move again a few seconds afterward. You settle in for a potentially long journey, sliding into one of the seats bolted to the floor. Azalea pulls a deck of cards out of nowhere, and with little else to do, the three of you begin to play poker.
>>
What you can only assume must be hours later, with the fairy raking in a fat hoard of sweets that were found in the underbelly of the ship that she fairly won off of you and Barbar (with nobody able to prove otherwise that there was any foul play involved), you feel the ship jostle as it slowly comes to a stop. You have to admit, you were fairly impressed with the work - you'd looked over at the instruments a few times, and this thing could move FAST even in its heavily damaged state. These pirates must be true terrors of the sea with equipment like this...

Another hiss tells you that the room is now depressurizing, and soon enough the hatch opens up again. You and Barbar hoist yourselves out, while Azalea merely flutters up in an effortless way that makes you somewhat jealous you weren't born with wings. You can already hear a bit of a commotion outside as the true owners of the ship seem to be wondering why it returned not only sooner than expected, but in such terrible condition. You steady your breathing as your heart starts to pound in anticipation, and strap your metal claws onto your hands. Azalea lands on your shoulder, giving you a thumbs-up that you can see out of the corner of your eye.

"Let's beat 'em black and blue! I'll be your lookout for any surprises!" She says enthusiastically. Which does actually remind you of the action plan you discussed on the way here...what was it, again?

Good Game Good Game Thank You
>>
That's right, you had planned to watch each other's backs so that nothing could take either of you by surprise. No matter what the pirates had laying in wait, you'd be able to take it out by working together. With this in mind, you decide to make a flashy entrance to reduce morale as much as you can right away, both of you heading over to the relatively undamaged side of the ship and throwing out simultaneous punches while flaring your ki to spread the blow out. The side of the ship explodes outward into a shower of sizzling splinters, and the two of you dramatically step forward into view while in readied fighting stances.

You see that the vehicle's docked in a fairly modern, if not outright advanced looking dock. The immediate threats you spot aren't as numerous as you initially suspected, the pirates present seeming to be their equivalent of dockworkers that seem shocked by the commotion - though you'd hardly be taken off guard by them, considering how even these low-level pirates seem to have blades and guns strapped to their sides to be used at a moment's notice. And they do indeed use them at a moment's notice, several of them pulling their pistols out to fire shots at your group.

Both your hands and Barbar's own move at a pace impossible for your assailants to see, but for you two is honestly on the slower side. You snatch each and every bullet out of the air, barely feeling the force of their impact compared to the considerably larger rounds the earlier robots used. Then, your movements practically synchronized, the two of you start throwing back individual bullets at speeds in excess of what they were shot at you with, specifically aiming for their weapons and rendering them useless when metal tears through metal and rips it out of their hands. Unsurprisingly, several of them set out to turn tail and run to alert their superiors - which is fine by you, since you have a job to do here and you don't want to search the entire hideout to root out every last one.

Nodding to Barbar, you two jump from the ship and onto the docks and take a quick look around for valuable targets to take down first. There seem to be a few other ships docked at the harbour, some of them of similar design to the one you rode in on while others make no attempt at disguising the fact that they're actually submarines. You charge up a solid ki blast in your hand and fling it out to one of the ships, which expands into a fiery explosion on the moment of impact which rips a massive hole in the bottom of it, causing it to rapidly sink. Barbar threw two of his own at the remaining ships he had a line of sight on, leading to similar results. With one of their main ways out of here taken care of, you're free to return your attention to the pirates themselves once more.

A red light starts to flash along with the wailing of a klaxon as the hideout apparently goes into high alert, and you're unsurprised to see a much larger group of pirates rushing towards the dock from further in the hideout. Many of them wield much more high-powered weapons like rifles and rocket-launchers, but the skull-headed robots among them give you greater pause than they do. Among them is, rather surprisingly, what looks like a man that replaced a good deal of his flesh with machinery that bears at least some resemblance to the robots among their number - and what little flesh is left is sagging and blue, perhaps a sign that it's not taking the transition as well as he might hope. His life force feels quite weak and miniscule, but you doubt your ability to sense ki would give you an accurate reading on someone that barely qualifies as living.

Admittedly, things get a little more chaotic once the group of pirates is in range. You and Barbar leap from your positions as a rocket heads your way and impacts the floor with a huge BOOM that shakes the structure around you, while the other pirates and their robots start to open fire. The two of you dodge and weave around the incoming fire expertly, and when the fearless automatons start to rush in to stab at you with their tails or slash at you with their wicked blades, you put them down with the efficiency you learned thanks to your prior dismantling of their brethren.

"A-ahh! My babies! Just what kind of monsters ARE these intruders? Kill them, quickly! Don't let them destroy my creations, you cowards!" The half-machine man shouts, wrapping his hook around the neck of one of his fellow pirates and throwing them with quite a lot of force towards you. Naturally, you punch the man out with a clean strike to the temple as soon as he's in range, and set him down unconscious but alive.

"You're the coward! You want us dead so much, come and do it yourself!" You taunt, opening your arms wide at him for a moment. It seems to work as you intended, as he starts to rush forward with bursts of fire shooting from his back, a literal jet propelling him towards you. He brings his blade down on you, only for your metal claws to catch it with only a minor amount of strain and keep it locked in place.

"I'll show you just how powerful the works of the GREATEST mind in the world are! My robots are more than a match for any military force, and I'm far superior-" He starts to gloat as he exerts an increasing amount of force on the blade, though you cut off his rant by pointing two fingers from your off-hand towards him and shooting out a bolt of Flash Lightning directly into his gut. Unlike the other robots, he clearly still has vulnerable flesh attached to him, and the electricity pulses through the machinery and into those organic components of his. He starts to jerk around uncontrollably, biting his tongue and causing blood to gush out of it, before he falls over backwards while smoking.

The ease at which he was dispatched did admittedly take you a bit off-guard, but it'll just sell your next point. "Piracy is outdated. You guys need to get with the times! And maybe learn how to hold down a real job instead of preying on the weak." You say, pointing menacingly to the rest of them. Barbar, of course, takes the opportunity to pick up a rocket launcher from one of the pirates he just downed, pointing it at them with a malicious grin.

"How about it? Ready to repent?" He asks, finger edging closer to the trigger. The group of pirates screams and puts their hands up, collectively begging for mercy and forgiveness. Of course, it couldn't simply be that easy, especially as a new voice barks up while heavy footsteps announce his presence.

"You lilly-livered dogs, I should cut down the lot of you. Remember where you'd be without us! Rotting in jails, or starving in the streets! The Worldwide Piracy Coalition has no need for cowards in its membership. But I can deal with you worms later..." The voice says, coming into view. It belongs to the most stereotypical pirate captain you've ever seen, and he levels a wicked looking blade down at you from the catwalks he approached on. "I don't know who you two are, but I'll be needing to make an example out of you. You'll be regretting your choices after I skin ye alive." He threatens.

It looks like things are going to heat up a bit more.

A less than fortunate result, but let's see how Barbar does.
>>
The extravagantly dressed pirate pulls a silver flask out of the inside of his coat, the flask naturally bearing a rather gaudy skull on it, and takes a quick drink of it despite the severity of the current situation. Noticing your somewhat confused expression, he shakes the flask at you while capping it. "A ritual o' mine to have a bit o' the devil's nectar before any fight. I'd say it damn well works, as I've never lost a single bloody scrap before!" He barks out, before laughing boisterously and tucking it back away. He grabs hold of a suspension wire for one of the machines scattered around the docks and cuts it while he leaps forward, swinging from it in a swift arc as he brandishes his saber with his other hand.

He comes in hot and fast, using the accumulated momentum to slam the blade into your guard and managing to push you back a few feet simply because of the force of the initial blow - your guard is still quite steady though, as your ki-enhanced muscles would need a much stronger hit to actually overpower them. The pirate captain breathes out a heavy sigh, the overpowering stench of alcohol flooding your senses now with how close he is. You wrinkle your nose as he pipes up again. "Ye got a steady arm, lad..." He compliments, before pulling back just in time to avoid a vertical chop from Barbar's sword.

The dapper pirate raises a finger up at him, wagging it like a parent scolding a child. "Now now, we may be pirates, but that be no reason to act dishonourably. Couldn't ye see I was fightin' the lad?" He chides Barbar, before raising his blade up again to point it at your first mentor.

"The only honor that exists on the battlefield is that which the victor takes home." Barbar replies calmly, before his eyes narrow and his tone sharpens. "Not that the rules of honor would matter to one who ignores all other rules." He adds on, rolling his shoulders to prepare for his upcoming clash with the pirate. You couldn't agree more with the sentiment, though you can't really follow the thought more as you begin to feel suddenly quite light-headed. Not only is your sense of balance suddenly shifting for no reason you can discern, but your vision is swimming and you're starting to see two of everyone - not to mention how your ability to control your ki is suddenly shot.

"Hwuh- what's going on to me...?" You ask, clutching your head from the overwhelmingly unfamiliar sensation and swaying where you stand. You didn't even get hit by anything, did you? No, you're certain that you've blocked everything that came your way so far - there isn't a scratch on your body, nor a mark on your clothes outside of the ones accrued from fighting the robots back in the ship. Barbar looks to you in concern and confusion, which the pirate takes as the perfect opportunity to step into your mentor's range and try to disembowel him with a slice across the gut.
>>
Thankfully for Barbar, the skills he forged over his years of training alongside you have served him well, and he not only intercepts the blade but parries it in such a way that it outright throws the sword out of the pirate's hand, tossing it several feet off to the side. The pirate puts his hands up, sighing heavily once more with that absolutely foul breath of his, and Barbar takes a sudden step back as his eyes widen in recognition.

"Damn scoundrel! You win your fights by intoxicating your enemies, don't you?" The older man accuses, pulling his shirt up over his mouth and nose to shield him from the worst of it. This declaration apparently brings great amusement to the pirate, who starts clapping his hands even as they're held up.

"Gyehahah! You're the first one to figure it out before it was too late. Looks like your friend over there has a pretty low tolerance, huh?" He remarks, and you look around for the friend that he must be talking about. You don't see anyone though, so maybe they're hiding? Oh, Azalea was hiding! Did Azalea get drunk somehow? You're pulled out of these vexing thoughts by the sound of a sudden gunshot, and you look around wildly after being startled by it, stumbling back to fall flat on your ass in the process. The well-dressed pirate is holding a gun pointed directly at you, which has a mechanism strangely heading underneath his sleeve. Barbar seems to have intercepted the bullet from it, as he holds the round ball of metal pinched between two fingers just a few inches from your head.

Barbar brings the bullet up to his face, turning it over in his hands as though he was inspecting it, while his expression morphs into one of rage. "I see. So your soul is this rotten. Be glad I'm not one of Hell's judges, Pirate - but for trying to harm my brother, I will send you to them for judgement!" Barbar says, his hand disappearing into a blur. The pirate stands dumbfounded for a few tense moments, before he falls over as a crimson flower of blood blooms from his forehead, the bullet having torn straight through it from the warrior's throw.
>>
Barbar is quick to turn his attention from the fallen foe back to you, reaching out to grab you by the wrists and pull you upright. "Azalea!" He calls out, your fairy friend popping up with a "Yup!" To toss a handful of her fairy dust into your face. Like it always does when delivered that way, it triggers a sudden sneezing fit in you...but your head starts to clear up almost immediately. It doesn't have enough time to fully clear the alcohol from your system, however, before a third voice chimes up - one projected from speakers around the facility, rather than in person.

"Well well well! It looks like I'm the only captain left of our little organization. Perhaps I should thank you meddlers for your role in getting rid of the dead weight, but somehow I don't think you'd appreciate it. Go ahead and enjoy the spoils of war, I have no intention of crossing you like those two fools did. I know when to cut my losses, so enjoy your victory." A husky voice says, before you feel a rumbling throughout the facility again...wait a minute, could there be another way out of here that you didn't account for? This'd be for nothing if they just turn tail and flee now!

>You raced through the facility as quickly as you could to try to stop the final captain from escaping! Nobody escapes justice on your watch!
>You didn't trust that it wasn't a trap - you'd move through the facility at a measured and careful pace, ready for anything.

You wanted nothing more than to rush right in and blitz past anything and everything that could be between you and the final captain, but your self-restraint managed to reign in your impulses. The previous captain's alcohol was still circulating in your system, so your physical and mental faculties were both going to be impaired. In addition, the robots that the first captain had made were plenty strong enough to put you at an initial disadvantage even when you were at your best, so going in blindly would just result in serious injury if not worse. You had to be cautious in your approach, and just hope you can reach them in time.

You initially tried to use the Far-Seeing Arts to project your senses outwards to try to get a read on the final captain's location and detect any traps nearby, but with your head still fuzzy from the alcohol fumes and your ki control shot, you can't project them more than two dozen feet away before your senses snap back into place from your wavering energy. Unfortunate, but you'll have to work on perfecting that technique under unusual conditions later if you want to use it in situations like this, it seems. "We need to go after them, but keep your eyes peeled for anything off - I think they're trying to lead us through traps or ambushes if we want to get to them." You urge, getting a serious nod from Barbar and a series of more enthusiastic ones from Azalea.

Together, the three of you start to press on into the rest of the facility, mopping up whatever pirates were foolish enough to stay behind after you dealt with the second captain - the majority seem to have scattered after realizing just how outclassed they were, though the robots were programmed to be utterly fearless and still rushed to aggress you from seemingly random points of the hideout that they had been stationed at. Your first roadblock was met at a particularly long hallway where every surface save for the ceiling was covered in countless circular holes - and you found, quite quickly, that stepping foot in this hallway would immediately cause a rather large arrow to rip through the air right where your head would have been had Barbar not pulled you back.

Using the Far Seeing Arts to get a closer look at the mechanisms behind it from relative safety, since you can at least handle anything within a few feet, you come to realize that there's some kind of sensor mechanism in the holes on the floor specifically, while the walls exclusively are where projectiles are stored and fired from. You explain this to your friends while openly considering your approach - it's too far to leap clear across in one go you think, and climbing on the walls is possible but dangerous. Crawling wouldn't work because of how low down to the floor some of the openings are...
>>
"I'll go disable it on the other side! They have to cross it somehow, but they want to make sure intruders can't go over there, so they probably have a way to allow people to move over it momentarily!" Azalea cuts off your musings, opting for a far simpler and easier solution than everything you'd been considering. She flies off over the entire span of the hallway effortlessly, and within a minute seems to have found exactly what she needed to, because small metal plates slide over all of the holes to indicate that they're currently not armed.

"Great job!" You exclaim while rushing forward, moving on through the rest of the facility. The back area of the hideout starts to look a lot less refined the further in you go, with metal and tiles making way for rough stone surfaces that look recently carved out. The rumbling from earlier is definitely coming from this way, but it's only fading more and more by the second as whatever is causing such moves away. You move through a room that contains a wide variety of tools, machines, and even half-assembled skull robots waiting to be completed and brought online - no doubt the workshop of that prior mechanist.

You look through some of the many consoles here to see if you could remotely shut off the cause of that rumbling, speedreading the contents only thanks to the studying tricks you picked up from Mutaito, and realize that it belongs to a massive drill that hollowed this facility out of the rock to begin with! There's no way to shut it off from here, but now you at least realize their plan: There's no way out back here unless they make one themselves. You slam your first on the console in frustration at not being able to turn their escape plan off from here, and run out of the room to catch up. Unbeknownst to you or your group, there had been one thing in that room that would have aided greatly had you noticed it - a deactivation switch to set all of the pirate robots patrolling the hideout to maintenance mode.

You faced heavy resistance throughout the rest of the facility as the number of robots increased in number, and while you were able to deal with each and every one of them, your less than ideal condition made you have to rely on Barbar to deal with the majority of their number once more, slowing your progress significantly. You were, at the very least, able to avoid any further harm coming to any of you...but by the time you reach where the drill had started its work, the only thing that greets you is the sight of a massive hole leading diagonally upwards, with a sunny sky peeking out from the other end. In the series of battles, you hadn't even realized when the rumbling had stopped.
>>
Rushing through the tunnel and heading up to the topside, you see tracks from the behemoth of a drill leading off towards the sea, where they clearly disappear on the beach. The damn thing is aquatic! You were too slow, and with no ways to search underwater for longer than a few minutes at a time, it'd be unlikely for you to find exactly where they went - while it's possible the thing might be slow underwater, you somehow doubt it when it comes to these maritime thieves. You clenched your fists with anger, before releasing that tension with a sigh.

"It is what it is. We'll just have to keep an ear to the ground for if they ever start causing trouble for people again." You say, Barbar patting you on the shoulder in consolation.

"We'll get 'em next time, Honta! At least we got the rest of them, though! Speaking of which, most of them are still alive. I can go get some authorities if you want to secure them!" Azalea offers, to which you nod.

"Good idea. Thanks, Az!" You say, giving her a thumbs up. She tilts her head at you with a strange expression.

"Az?" She asks.

"Oh, you know, a nickname. It's short for Azalea." You explain, having come up with it on the spot just now. "It's not bad, is it?"

"No, not really! Just pretty weird for you to shorten someone's name, that's all! I guess drunk Honta is a lot more casual than normal Honta, huh?" She says with a giggle.

"I-it's not that weird..." You say, looking to Barbar for confirmation. Barbar noticeably doesn't look back at you, tightening his gaze on the horizon in a way that makes you absolutely certain he's avoiding your eyes on purpose.
...
Back inside the Pirate's Cave, a good hour later, you've pretty much rounded up all of the subdued pirates and tied them up with whatever you could find - ropes, chains, you name it. Many of them have woken up by now and struggle pointlessly against their bindings, though the cyborg seems to have taken his sweet time to come back to the waking world. When he does so, the machinery making up the majority of his body sparks, and he resumes his speech precisely where he left off previously, as though he can't tell that his situation has changed since then.

"- to even my most advanced model! Prepare...yourself...for...wait, what's going on? How did I get tied up so quickly?!" He says, obviously delayed in his realization.

"It's been an hour, guy. I knocked you out pretty much immediately." You inform him, which causes a look of shock to dawn on him.

"Impossible! I cheated death itself, how could I possibly lose?" He asks, dumbfounded. He actually looks pretty upset that his personal augmentations didn't seem as impressive in practice as he thought they'd be, some teardrops forming at the corners of his eyes but refusing to fall.

"I just electrocuted you." You admit, crossing your arms. The cyborg pirate's jaw drops down further.
>>
"Of course! I shielded the components from electrical interference, but that just left my flesh to become the path of least resistance! Aye, damn cunning to directly shock me brain like that...I'll have to improve on that design in my next iteration." He admits, still not really realizing that he's your prisoner at the moment and will likely be going away for a long time.

When the police arrive with Azalea's guidance, you gladly tell them about everything that's been going on and what you uncovered here. You are, of course, thanked for your role in shutting down the majority of this operation...but they do ask that in the future, should you come across any crimes, that you report it to the proper authorities first instead of taking action yourself. Somehow you doubt that the authorities would have been able to deal with this, but you keep such thoughts to yourself for now. As you're led back out of the cove, you and Barbar call your Nimbuses to you, so that you can find your way back to where your intended destination was. Wait a minute...you don't exactly know where the Pirate's ship took you. Let's hope you can manage to find your way back onto your path...

Soaring up into the skies on the Flying Nimbus, with Barbar right beside you on the Dark Nimbus and Azalaea standing on top of your fluffy head of hair, you peer out over the beautiful landscape of Earth. The closest feature of note would, naturally, be the fact that you're situated at a group of numerous islands that don't seem too far apart from one another - an archipelago the likes of which could only truly be found in the southern hemisphere, most likely the southeastern to be specific. The warm temperatures and sandy beaches support the notion, compared to the cooler temperatures and rocky shores that the northern lands tend to hold. Next, utilizing the Far-Seeing Arts to pierce through the atmospheric haze and account for the curvature that would otherwise hinder your vision, you spot the massive landmass that must by the mainland to the north - some particularly verdant looking mountain range is the first thing you spot there, and near it is a wide expanse of desert, which Barbar confirms sounds like the lands he grew up near.

With his direction, and a little bit of confirmation using the well-worn map that Jack drew for you all those years ago, you determine that you need only head east and maybe a little bit due south to get back on track to your search for Baba and Yang. With a sharp whistle, you two set your flying clouds into motion, and within just a few hours at most you've made your way back to the western hemisphere of the world thanks to the blindingly fast speeds that these little guys can go. Cross-referencing land features with the map once you reach a deep inland river you recall seeing previously, you head towards the Great Western Desert you'd heard of before...

When you finally spot it, you can safely say that it's not quite what you expected of a desert - though you can clearly make out plenty of dunes and sand, it seems as though a great deal of effort went into attempting to make the land more hospitable, with a plethora of hardy desert trees having been specifically planted to make a paradoxical desert forest of unearthly beauty. At the core of this desert forest lays a particularly stunning oasis of glittering water, upon which seems to be exactly what you were looking for: Fortuneteller Baba's magnificent palace, bearing buildings with rooftops that shimmer like they're made of precious amethysts or sapphires and topped with golden caps. A strange circular area, perhaps a meeting ground, seems to be attached to the back of the palace while two identical pyramids flank either side of it.
>>
Swerving the nimbus down to the entryway, you're surprised to see just how busy the place seems to be. A line of people, all of whom look rather well-off and rich, seem to be waiting for admission into the palace today. While they seem surprised at the appearance of two dangerous looking men flying in on clouds, you get the feeling that they don't seem as shocked by the idea as most others would be...perhaps they're expecting strange and out-of-the-ordinary things at a place like this. You give them a quiet wave, but not wanting to disturb them, you simply step into the line so as to not cut in front of anyone.

The line moves slower than you'd like it to, and it's at least an hour until you've made it to the front, with new arrivals having simply stepped in behind you to wait their turn, the line never actually changing in size despite the departures of previous visitors. Once you're at the front of the line, you're greeted by the strange sight of some kind of blobby pink floating creature with wide-open eyes, an equally wide grin, and absolutely no ki that you can feel.

"Welcome, welcome~! Is your visit today for business or pleasure?" It asks you, putting you a bit on the back foot. You're not really sure, you DID want to see Yang of course, but the idea of getting your fortune told or something like that does sound kind of appealing. Should you keep it purely friendly, or should you see what services this place has to offer? As if sensing your hesitation, the creature that you don't yet know is a ghost speaks up again. "If it's business, then you can either pay the toll of 10,000,000 Zeni up front for whatever clairvoyant services you want...or you can fight Madam Baba's otherworldly martial artists, and get the services for free if you win!" It explains further. Hmm...

>Sure, Business AND pleasure! You were honestly in once the idea of fighting supernatural opponents was on the table.

"Both! But let's start with the business first. We'd like to challenge Baba's fighters, please!" You ultimately decide. This choice shocks several of the people lined up behind you, but the pink floating blob-creature seems completely unsurprised by the decision.

"Alright! Please follow me!" The usher says, turning around and floating towards the central building. You do as instructed, of course, and enter the same building to find that it's actually quite dark and only lit by what little sunlight comes through and sparse candles here and there. Skeletons wielding barbed tridents stand at every entrance, perfectly still such that you're unsure if there's merely decoration or some kind of reanimated servant, and various witchly instruments are scattered around the building such as bookshelves with ancient tomes and a cauldron bubbling with an unknown but sweet-smelling substance.

In the center of the room, floating upon a crystal orb of remarkable size and clarity, you spot what must be the mysterious Fortuneteller Baba herself. Just as Korin claimed, she truly does fit the image of an old hag, with her wrinkly and droopy face coupled with black robes and the trademark witch's hat that no witch would ever be caught dead without. Yang is nowhere to be seen at the moment unfortunately, but it's reasonable to assume she might just be on a different floor or tasked with something elsewhere for now. Regardless, out of your usual urge to be polite, you bow your upper body slightly in greeting.

"Spare me the introductions, Wyald Honta. I already knew that you'd come here today and challenge my fighters, even though you came for a completely different reason. You're an easy one to sidetrack, aren't you?" She says, completely pre-empting the hello you were going to give. It takes you a little aback, but you're quick to adapt to things that take you off guard these days.

"Yeah, I can be!" You admit, nodding. "But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I take it that you're Fortuneteller Baba?" You ask, tilting your head slightly.

"Indeed I am. And yes, as you suspected I did in fact take that girl on as my apprentice for now. I have her tending to the forests outside with some alchemical fertilizer, in case you were wondering." Baba reveals, before grinning and rubbing her hands together. "Just when I thought it was too much work just for increasing the property value around here, I got a willing lackey to take care of it for me. I'll miss her when she completes her studies in a few decades." She admits under her breath, showing you that her motivation for taking on a student is clearly more than altruistic.

"I see, I see. Then we'll have plenty of time for the fights, then! How does this work, are there any rules? How many people am I fighting? Do I know any of them?" You question rapidfire, excited.

"One question at a time! It's quite simple though, you'll be fighting each opponent in a special arena of their choice. If you fall out of the arena, surrender, or die, then you lose and the next fighter in your group will have to step up. There are five fighters you have to beat, and most people choose to approach this with five fighters of their own...I must say, it's rather foolish of you to have chosen this trial with only three." She explains, shaking her head in disapproval.

"Oh, I'm not actually a fighter! I don't really have the build for it, I mostly provide support! I'm part cheerleader, part nurse!" Azalea speaks up, holding up two pompoms she got from seemingly nowhere and now wearing some kind of risqué nursing outfit. After one glance at her, you make sure to keep your gaze solidly on Baba, whose grin just grows before she cackles out a laugh.

"Oh no, I'm quite certain it's three. After all, someone else you know got here just a few days before you did." She corrects, before raising her hands up to cup her mouth and raising her voice. "You can come out now, Harum!" She shouts, and you look around wildly for the friend you hadn't seen in months. And there he is, descending from the stairway in all his glory, waving at you two!

"Harum! You finished up in Yunzabit?!" You ask enthusiastically, rushing over to him and outright wrapping him up in a bearhug to spin him around.

"Glad to see you again too, Honta! You can set me down though, haha." He says, embarrassed by the display. You set him down, to which he continues. "And yeah, I was able to get in and study a good bit about it. My work isn't completely finished, but I was getting a little bored being up there completely by myself, so I figured I'd cut you off here and maybe see if I could learn a thing or two about magic in the process." He explained, now walking back over to the more reserved Barbar to clap shoulders with him in greeting.

"How's that going?" You inquire, curious as to if he picked up the esoteric practice.
>>
"Not as great as I'd hoped for, but not as bad as I was expecting. If I concentrate really hard for a full minute, I can light a candle now!" He says, earning a disappointed shake of the head from Baba apparently. "About the same rate as for my progress with the ship we found. And yes, it is in fact a ship! A spaceship, to be exact, clearly signs that alien life has visited our planet in the past. A lot of the controls are verbal, I've found, and require you to speak in whatever language they have...though I haven't really been able to work out more than two commands with it, since I don't have much to base it on. I figured out how to get the ship to open itself up, by saying 'Piccolo', and how to get what I think is a toilet to operate, by saying "Seata Belta". I don't know the commands for it, but this thing can fly without chemical propellants through a special mechanism, and I'm pretty sure it could punch a hole straight through a mountain with the weapons it has equipped on it. I might try my hand at reverse engineering those once I get a proper workshop going someday." He continues, clearly enthusiastic about what he learned.

"Man, aliens! Who would have thought. We'll definitely have to get you a workshop going then! Anyways, you're gonna challenge Baba's fighters with us?" You ask, getting a nod from Harum.

"Of course. I'll let you two go first, as I'm not the keenest on fighting, but I'll swap in if need be just so we don't completely lose. Now, normally I'd ask you to fill me in on what you guys did since we last met, but Baba is looking a little annoyed at how long we're taking, so let's save that for later." He says eyeing the irate seeming witch cautiously.

"Hmph. It's about time! Let's get this show on the road." She nags, floating out to lead you all to the first arena - the circular one. She snaps her fingers to call for the first opponent, and you sense movement from the watery moat around the palace. A strange, green-skinned woman with a snake's body in place of her legs shoots out of the water and slides up onto the stone arena, wearing a paper bag on her head with a single eyehole cut out of it. The choice of headwear strikes you as extremely odd, but you elect not to comment on it.

Instead, you turn to Barbar and both nod at each other, clenching your fists. You both wanted to be the first one to fight, so there was only one way to settle it. You throw your fists out at each other, but stop just out of range of hitting each other. Your hand is outstretched into an open palm, while his is a closed fist. You place your palm over his fist, and pump your other fist in the air. "Paper covers rock! You're a thousand years too young to beat me at this game, Barbar." You gloat, getting a chuckle from the older man.
>>
As you step into the arena, you bow respectfully to your upcoming opponent, before assuming a ready position. Your instincts are telling you that something is off about this 'otherworldly opponent', but you're unsure of just why that is until Baba speaks up once more. "In the interest of fairness and preserving your life, I would recommend you approach this fight with your eyes closed, young man." She says, causing you to look over with a bewildered expression.

"Huh? Why would I do that?" You ask, getting a snicker from Baba.

"Because my first fighter is so ugly that anyone who looks at her face will immediately turn to stone. That's Medusa's curse." She states.

"I'M NOT UGLY! I look perfectly fine, it's just the curse that does it! How many times do I have to explain that to you, you senile old hag! I swear, if you do it one more time, I'm quitting!" Medusa shouts indignantly at Baba, clearly offended by what is a repeat insult.

"I'm neither senile nor old, you vainglorious snake! I still have all of my teeth, I'm in the prime of my life!" Baba shouts back, bristling with anger at being called old despite her appearance.

"I don't mean to interrupt, but are we going to start soon?" You ask, still in your stance. Baba clears her throat, nodding once reminded of the task at hand.

"That's right, we have more important things to do. On my mark...three...two...one...START!" She declares, pulling a gun out of her robes and firing it up to the sky. Azalea, still in the same outfit as before, starts to cheer for you on the sidelines to pump you up.

>You'd fight Medusa with your eyes closed, exactly as was suggested. You're plenty skilled to detect someone without your eyes!
>You're not afraid of curses, you've beaten a living one before! You'll just take her out as quickly as you can, before she even has a chance to remove that paper bag.

Seeing her reach for the bag on her head, you quickly shut your eyes and instead expand your ki sense to get a feel for her energy. She doesn't feel particularly powerful by your current standards, but certainly stronger than the average person by far. If you had to guess, you'd say that she likely relies on people either being foolish enough to look at her face to win her fights, or hindered enough by their lack of eyesight to allow her to eke out an easy enough win. Still, it's best not to underestimate her - if her lower body works anything like some of the snakes you've seen, she might be able to pulverize bones with serpentine muscles that thick.

Feeling and hearing her come closer, your ki senses sharpen to the point where you can practically see her entire body without the use of your eyes, and you can see her winding up for a powerful but telegraphed punch. Your hand shoots up to grab her by the fist as soon as its in range, and with a flick of your wrist you twist her arm around such that the rest of her body follows, lifting her up off the ground and twisting her through the air before you release. You can hear the heavy thud as she lands ungracefully on the hard stone tiles afterwards, hissing in pain.

When she recovers, she lunges forward at you again, this time trying to grapple you in a kind of bear hug, but you repeat the previous results in a similar manner by grasping both of her forearms and transferring her momentum overhead to slam her back down behind you...judging by the sound, you may have cracked some of the stone tiles with that one. Releasing her, you don't even bother to turn back around, dodging her next attacks for the next minute in the same manner that Mutaito once dodged all of your attacks years ago - all with your eyes shut, a serene and unbothered expression on your face.

"HOLD STILL, DAMN IT! H-How are you able to dodge me when you can't even see me? Are you cheating somehow?" She asks, her movements growing more desperate as you twist under blows and leap over swipes. You do a flip over her tail when she tries to slam it into you, and plant your boots firmly onto her skull, stunning her and the numerous snakes that make up her hair in an instant strike that sends her chin on a trip to meet the floor.

"It's simple, I don't need to see you to know what you're doing. I can feel you and every move you take." You reply, leaping off while she recovers.

"I...I bith my tongue!" She whines, balling her fists up before pointing over at where Baba's energy can be felt. "I've had it! I forfeit, and I quit! Itsh bad enough being curshed, but I jusht get beat up or inshulted every day!" She rants, clearly fed up with her treatment as one of Baba's fighters.

"You can't quit, we had a deal!" Baba shouts back with panic, and you hear the rustling of paper as Medusa seems to be fitting the bag over her head again.
>>
"I'm altering the deal! Pray I don't alter it further!" The gorgon snaps back, slithering out of the arena. You open your eyes now that it seems safe to, looking awkwardly between the two arguing parties. "Besides, I didn't even get anything out of it yet. I should have just asked for my payment up front, you greedy hag!" She hisses out.

You step out of the arena to approach the bickering duo again, bowing to Medusa. "Sorry if I hit you too hard. I hope your Curse gets lifted soon, I know how troublesome they can be. There's a guy in Central City that runs a business called Demons Will Weep, he might be able to help you with it - he helped me get rid of the Living Curse we ran into a while back." You apologize while offering her information that may lead to an improvement of her situation. Baba freezes, before turning to look at you slowly.

"D-Don't you know when to shut up? How am I supposed to keep a business running if you just give away information like that!" She chides you, clearly irritated at what you revealed. You rub the back of your head sheepishly.

"It's in the newspaper, anyone could read about it?" You reply as your excuse.

"I suppose I can forgive you for the bruises...thanks for the tip, catman. And good luck with the rest of the fighters! They've been at this a lot longer than I have." Medusa cuts in to thank you, before heading off to one of the buildings of the palace to collect her belongings presumably.

Baba grumbles a bunch of nonsense under her breath in impotent anger before speaking up again, this time raising a hand up to shoot a bolt of magical energy at the sky, which instantly forms into a darkly overcast cloudy sky. "Terrible employees quitting aside, it's time for my next fighter! Rise from your grave, Fangs the Vampire!" She calls out, a flash of lightning cracking against the sky. From the shadowed interior of the building further along Baba's palace, an almost emaciated and crazed looking figure starts to stalk out, before stopping in the center of the arena.

You can't feel this one's ki at all, so it's hard for you to judge just how strong he may or may not be...but if he's the second fighter, he's bound to be trickier than the one before. Besides, Vampires are supposed to have a lot of powers that are difficult for most people to deal with...the only question is how you want to handle this.

You step into the arena once more, bowing to your opponent respectfully like Mutaito instructed you to always do. The pale vampire looks a little confused by the gesture, slamming his padded gloves together a few times in response. "Let's do this, mortal! I haven't eaten all day, so I'm starving!" He exclaims before he starts laughing like a madman, spittle and drool flying everywhere as he does so. Maybe his hunger is driving him crazy, it'd certainly explain his appearance and demeanor...

"You should try a homecooked meal sometime. It's a lot tastier than blood, you know!" You retort, sliding into your reactive stance and rolling your neck - not just to stretch the muscles, but because you have a strong feeling that it'll provoke the undead fighter to see the arteries further exposed. Your guess proves right, as he lunges forward with blinding speed all while still cackling, almost taking you by surprise with how fast he is. Thankfully, you were ready for such, and gracefully step to the side while moving to sweep your legs under his to drop him to the floor.

He actually hops over the sweep and tucks into a roll to gain some distance from you, before springing back into form and twisting around to get his sights on you again, bouncing on the balls of his feet lightly. "Come on, just a light snack!" He says, tittering agains afterwards. You glance to the cloudy skies while he talks, having been sending your energy into them as subtly as possible, but he seems to notice your gaze and look up as well. Whatever he detects clearly tips him off, as right when you call down your first bolt of lightning, he yelps in surprise and actually manage to explode into a puff of smoke that somehow assists him in dodging!

Out of the smoke comes a fairly large bat instead of the vampire you were expecting, which flies towards you at even faster speeds than Fangs had on-foot. It tries to bear down directly on your neck and transforms back into the humanoid form of Fangs moments before he reaches his target, but you raise your forearm up just in time for him to latch down on that instead. You can immediately feel your blood start to drain from your arm and into the vampire at an extreme rate, so you bash him over the head with your other arm before it can go too far, punching him off of you and leaving him to stumble back in a dazed manner. Somehow, in just a second, he drained enough blood from you for you to start feeling lightheaded - you'll want to finish this as quickly as possible to avoid getting any worse.

With that in mind, you called down another bolt of lightning onto Fangs, who seemed to be in no condition to dodge it this time, which immediately made him light up with electricity to the point that his bones were illuminating beneath his skin and he was getting heavily charred flesh. You have to give it to him, though - he's a tough guy, because as soon as the bolt of lightning was done with he dived out of the way of the second one you sent his way.

You charge lightning up into your fingertips to aim a bolt of Flash Lightning at him while he's focused on the skies, taking him off guard and hitting him directly in the chest with it next to repeat the same results as the Sandakoru, and this time he's too sluggish to avoid another fierce bolt from the skies. Having just taken three powerful jolts of electricity, he stands still save for his wobbling movement...before collapsing face-first on the ground, groaning in pain.

"Whoo-hoo! Go Honta!" Azalea cheers for you, flying up to sprinkle some of her soothing dust on your arm to seal up the numerous holes that Fangs' fangs left. It feels instantly better, though you're sure that it didn't replenish the energy that was both stolen from you and expended in this fight, so you're going to have to approach the next fight smarter if it's going to be against a more difficult foe than this one.

"Have I ever told you how great it is to have you for a friend?" You compliment, appreciative of just how nice it is to have fairy dust whenever you need it and a morale boost whenever you want.

"Yes, but don't let that stop you. Praise me more!" She says back with a smug expression, showing that humility is clearly her greatest virtue. You laugh it off, of course, and turn to Baba.

"Alright, where's the next fighter?" You ask her, rolling your shoulders.

"Hmph. Don't get cocky, because your next opponent is the toughest person in the world...and you won't be fighting him here. We're going to his SPECIAL arena, the dreaded Devil's Toilet!" She exclaims, a streak of lightning punching through the air dramatically as she says it, though definitely not one caused by you.

"The...devil's toilet? That doesn't sound very dreadful." You respond.

"Prepare to be surprised." She shoots back, grinning as she floats on to lead you to your new arena. There, you find that there are two massive statues of obese demons with outstretched tongues touching each other, a caustic substance bubbling far beneath the arena that brings great offense to your sensitive nose. You pinch it and hold back a retch, grimacing.

"Eugh! What's that smell?!" You ask, hesitant to step onto the intended fighting area lest you get closer to it.
>>
"Oh, nothing much. Just boiling hot acid that will instantly melt anything or anyone that falls into it." She says with a cruel smile, waving you forward. "Of course, if you want to stop here and swap out with one of your friends, I completely understand. I'll get my fighter ready while you make your decision." She says, moving over to a sarcophagus laying in the mouth of one of the demon statues. She raps on it a few times. "Bandages! Wake up, I have another fight for you, lazybones!" She shouts, earning a groan from the occupant.

The lid of the sarcophagus lifts up and shifts off to the side, clattering on the floor and kicking up dust as it does so. A positively gargantuan man, covered in what you assume is bandages but looks more like toilet paper to you, climbs out of his resting place and pops his neck.

"I was having a wonderful dream about cats, I'll have you know. This better be good." He says to his employer, before looking over at you and your group. He gives a fierce looking grin, waving your way. "Yo. Which one of you punks am I schooling today?" He asks...a good question, really.

If we let Barbar have a go are we essentially forfeiting or can we swap out again with him for the next fighter or if he loses?
Barbar has a sword which I assume he is fighting with and that sounds great against telekinetic bandage man.

IF we forfeit by doing this then I am changing too....

>>Considering the name of your opponent, his dress, and the location you are fighting in it is likely he is going to make use of his bandages in various ki fueled techniques. Cut them apart before he has a opportunity to use them and stay alert to your surroundings as he likely will be sneaky with them. Don't rely on the arena to win, he is fighting here because it somehow gives him the best ability to win.

At least they have 9 lives!
Honestly didn't even think of the connection when writing that, I was just referencing ancient egypt's love of cats.

Still pinching your nose tightly with one hand, you point at your chest with your thumb with the other and proclaim "I'm your opponent!", although it comes out strained and nasally due to your current predicament. Something about that must have amused him, because Bandages just laughs boisterously before taking on an unfamiliar battle stance, which seems to leave a shocking amount of openings in it.

"Alright then. Don't blame me if you end up getting flushed!" He taunts, while you assume your own stance...minus a hand, just to spare yourself from sensory overload. Despite the fact that he has more than a dozen openings available, you can't shake the feeling that it's a trap somehow...but as thirty seconds go by with the two of you staring each other down, it becomes clear that he's content to stay where he is. "Getting cold feet? Or are you starting to enjoy the ambiance in here? I'll admit, it's pretty homey when you get used to it...but let's be real, I can win this little staring contest." He follows up, grin widening. Damn it, he's right - you're going to have to be the one to act here.

With that in mind you rush forward in a zigzagging approach, springboarding off of air-steps to close the gap rapidly and launch a feint at his head, while in reality you're intending to shift your weight and pull back into a full-force kick to his gut. Your fist comes within inches of his face before you try to pull it back, but you realize while redirecting your momentum for the followup that one of his bandages somehow came loose from his body and wrapped around your forearm! He tugs it harshly to throw you off-balance, forcing you to abandon the kick as you instead slam your foot into another air-step to force yourself not to fall in towards him.

You don't have much time to adjust, because he rushes in personally right afterwards, his meaty fists flying out to try to catch you while that damned bandage bound to your limb keeps throwing your guard off every which way - it's only through sheer perseverance that you're able to duck and weave around the blows. Soon enough, unfortunately, a second bandage seems to have snaked around one of your legs, putting you in a considerably more disadvantageous situation. Instead of being the one directing his movements, he's the one directing all of yours right now; in a more direct way than taught by the Way of the Warrior, but the core principle remains the same. You have no choice but to remove your hand from your nose, holding your breath while you grasp onto one of the steel claws at your belt and swing out to free your other arm.
>>
"Don't fight it, buddy. I once controlled the entire world, a single person is nothing in comparison. You should relax, and enjoy the luxury of an Emperor's cloth while you can. I'd hate to have to throw you down into the acid for putting up too much of a fight." He says, the bandage on your leg tightening as he pulls on it with both hands to try to whip you towards him. Thankfully, you manage to dig your claws into the stone, raising your other now-free hand to pinch your nose again so you can take a breath.

"Sorry, I never learned how to give up! And I never learned how to lose, either." You retort, pulling your leg back towards you with all the force you're capable of and reversing the very thing he was attempting to do, managing to tug him off his feet and throw him right between the eyes of one of the demon statues. It embeds him within it, cracking the stone around it and leaving damages that Baba is probably fuming about right this instant, but you can't really focus on that right now - you quickly cut the wraps around your leg to free yourself completely from his control again, and flip to a standing position.

The mummy pulls himself from the statue with a groan, rubbing his head, but putting his usual grin back on after just a moment. "Then allow me to be your mentor for today, young one." He says, and practically all of the bandages on his body loosen up with just a flex from him. Holding his arms both out at you, the bandages take on a life of their own as countless wraps shoot out at you to try to ensnare you again - but you're ready for it this time, and equipped with the perfect gear to counter such a tactic. You flip around those you can't afford to deal with directly while your claws slice cleanly through other ones, keeping the tactic up for what feels like a full minute before the bandages around the similarly-named ex-emperor seem to start to run out, more and more of his flesh being exposed until.

With a frown, he pulls back the remainder of his bandages to try to retain at least some of them for close-ranged combat, but that's when you take the opportunity to firmly grasp one of the retreating bandages and use it to pull yourself towards him at high speeds while simultaneously tugging him off-balance. His eyes widen in surprise, and you shift your stance to deliver a particularly strong kick directly to his face, sending him flying once more...only, this time, it looks like it'll send him directly over the edge of the precarious arena and down towards the acid.

With quick thinking, you tighten your grip on the bandage in your hand, hold your breath, and kneel over the side to offer your hand down to the mummy that hangs by literal threads over the boiling acid. He starts to climb his own cloth back up, before he grabs your hand shakily and pulls himself all the way back up with your assistance. He breathes heavily, clearly a little off-put by how close he was to being melted, before glancing up to you with a grin.

"You've got a heart of gold. Not many people would save their own opponent, you know. What if I knocked you off, right here and now?" He asks, before you point down to your leg. Immediately after you helped him up, while he was still recovering, you'd actually subtly tied one of his bandages to it - so that if he knocked you down, you could pull him down with you or at least hopefully use him to springboard back up. Seeing this, he gives a full-bodied laugh that seems quite genuine, devoid of the malevolence of earlier. "Perhaps the heart of a King, even. To offer the carrot in one hand but have a switch in reserve. Very well...I shall forfeit this match to you, challenger! Good luck with the next opponent...you'll surely need it." He says, patting you on the back with his huge hand.

Baba directs you back out of the arena after that, fuming visibly and muttering something about repair costs under her breath, but she doesn't seem to want to talk directly to you right now. Instead, she leads you over to one of the pyramids, to which she points at it and says "This is getting old, so let's just wrap this up with my next fighter. All of your cheap tricks and fancy techniques won't so much as scratch this next one! Heed my call, o' Invincible Golem!" She cries out, and the pyramid itself seems to shift in shape before stranding up in a humanoid form...wait, was Golem seriously there the whole time? He's huge!

"A golem! They're pretty resistant to Lightning, Honta! And physically they're unmatched!" Azalea warns you, causing you to grimace in expectation of this next fight. If you can't rely on beating it with raw strength, and if your various lightning techniques won't do much, then how CAN you beat it...? You step up into its arena, feeling as small as an ant in comparison, looking up at it from its shadow.

>You'd just have to try to break it anyway. The power in your body shouldn't be underestimated!
>The arena is actually bound to be a lot less tough than it is. You might be able to go for a ring-out by damaging the right parts, but Baba would DEFINITELY get mad about that.
>Is it tough enough to withstand its own blows? It's physically very risky, but maybe you can trick it into hurting itself if you get close enough and prioritize dodging.

Oh, I forgot to add it but you can ALWAYS vote for it:

So we used the Mutaito style ability to win that? I remember it saying it just negated damage so I thought we would have had to have a second go at the mummy.

Wasn't Baba Roshi's sister? In that case how is she so much older than him?

Either

or
>The arena is actually bound to be a lot less tough than it is. You might be able to go for a ring-out by damaging the right parts, but Baba would DEFINITELY get mad about that.
Also I love how earnest and polite Honta always is. He is a good boy.

A quick scan online seems to suggest she is indeed 150 years older than her younger brother... Implying that there's something unusual about at least onr of their parents, too.
>>
>>5600780
Maybe they are the key to figuring out how to live longer as a beastman hybrid
>>
>>5600577
Yeah, I didn’t want to extend it to a second round so I figured it would be fair enough to give y’all a break for spending both of your get out of jail free cards. When it’s a series of fights like this, I feel it’s best to keep it as one “round” per, otherwise we’ll end up spending an inordinate amount of time on just fight after fight.
>>5600758
Their parents are very old and disturbingly still active in their relationship

I'm fairly certain Roshi was alluded to have either drank an Elixir of Immortality or drank from a Fountain of Youth... but it was *early* Dragonball and it was never brought back again IIRC so that could have been merely an offhanded quip or joke

I...have proven to be strangely busy this week! We're already on page 8, so I'm actually going to take a small break to catch up on work and life so I can get it out of the way for y'all. I'll see you gentlemen on the 21'st, where I'll be making our third thread. We'll be finishing off the Golem there, then fighting Spike. So, here's something for you all to consider if your team can best Spike the Devil Man:
What are you going to ask Fortuneteller Baba to use her oracular powers on?
>>
>>5602740
Could be nice to ask how to extend our lifespan.
>>
>>5602740
Oh, and thanks for running, WM! It's been a blast, and I look forward to continuing. Very glad I caught up on this one.
>>
>>5602740
We could ask her to locate the escaped pirate captain! A hunter does not forget his prey after all.
>>
>>5602740
>>5602759
That is what I was thinking
>>
>>5602740
Considering Honta is 16 and still has like 40 years and has barely explored the world yet it would like be better to ask Baba for a path of action to become the greatest possible martial artist.
It is essentially just going to speed up our exploration but will likely show quite a few places we otherwise would never find and it would let Honta power level and know when he should do something dangerous like drink the ultra divine water. Would be funny if we can beat Piccolo when he shows up in 5ish years.
>>
>>5602740
Ask her about us aging quicker, and a way to fix that.
>>
>>5602740
Ask her for places where we can get stronger, ideally that we don't already know about. There have to be some truly hidden masters lying in wait somewhere.
