Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll however many D100 are specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, you started your stint in Saltcoast City by serving as a Gym Trainer at Fie's Gym, went to the beach, met Ian of the Elite Four and Emma, the former Saltcoast Gym Leader.

"No, Fie's brand of 'trouble' has been giving solid advice and helping get us out of difficult situations." You say.

The scuffles with Team Green spring to mind immediately, not to mention your arm and all the other bits and pieces she's helped you out with over the past week or so.

Emma nods affably.

"I'd expect no less of such a thoughtful young woman and diligent gym leader." She says, before the crookedness in her smile takes on a distinctly amused twist. "But I'm mostly just having you on. So long as your stupid decisions don't involve criminality or drugs, no harm, no foul. You're only young once. Might as well enjoy it and have some fun."

You're still not sure what her angle is but you're pretty sure she's not going to lecture you.

"So, how was the beach?" Fie asks with relief.

>Alright. We met Ian down there. Gareth and Holly battled him.
>Not bad. The weather was nice for it and we had fun.

"Alright. We met Ian down there. Gareth and Holly battled him and we had some fun trying to learn Secret Power." You reply. "Could've done without Team Green showing up just before we came back, but Ian made sure they didn't really get to cause much trouble."

"Oh, those louts are still hanging about, are they?" Emma asks disapprovingly. "Box their ears for me next time, will you. If I were just a decade younger, I'd do it myself, but I very much doubt that they'd treat an old lady with respect, whether she disagreed with them or just happened to be passing by."

"We've been doing that a lot already, though more because they either happen to be in our way or they actively pick a fight with usbecause we stand up for ourselves." You explain.

"Then keep up the good work. I expect young Ian went and gave them a hiding they won't soon forget?" She asks.

"He did, he just had his Gyarados blast them with a Water Gun." Holly says, sounding awed. "I've seen Hydro Pumps on TV that weren't as strong." She adds.

"That's Ian for you." Fie confirms. "Glad he got a spot on the League, because he absolutely deserves it." She adds. "Say hi to him from me the next time you see him."

You nod.

"I'll do that." You confirm. "Is there a free court we can use to train?" You ask.

Fie nods.

"There is." She confirms.

"Reserving one of the courts for your friends, Fiona? For shame." Emma says, shaking her head in clear disapproval.

"Normally, I'd go with first in first served, but there's some extenuating circumstances." Fie says, nodding to you.

"We're a little short on places to train due to Team Green." You say. "Holly and I also happen to have two particular rare pokemon that we can't really risk training in public right now without risking challenges that they're just not ready for."

Emma gives the both of you searching looks.

"Well, I'm sure there's a very interesting story attached to that." She says, downing the last of her tea. "You'll have to tell me about it sometime. But for now, I'd best get going. I've got shopping to do and I wouldn't want to keep you from training." She says, standing. "Have a good day now." She says.

"You too. Goodbye." Holly says, before Fie leads the way to the gym's secondary arena.

It's alright OP.
The one time i got it i had the shits from it and couldn't breathe properly for a while.
Take some mints or tea to clear your nose/throat and drink as much liquid as you can.
As for the hell flood from the ass stick to eating more foods like eggs, chocolate etc.
>>
Anyway might be a good idea to start up a discussion about aura and OP can use what he thinks he can roll with from it.

So far we figured out about aura
>Can be awakened in special ores, training or some who have Psychic talent have it awakened naturally
>it boosts our the users overall abilities but can be used to boost our self in specific areas if we focus our training on it
>it's what is used for Pokemon moves and Aura users can execute them (Alex knows Dragon dance already and we need to finish practicing that aura strike)
>it mentally influences the user or others near them when channeled

So far i got some more ideas:

>Training a specific move to mastery could grant the user an ability related to it, for example Drought from Sun Dance, Speed Boost from Agility, Flame Body from Flame Wheel, Pure Power from Meditate etc. with there being a limit of 3 maximum abilities one can master and no more. Mastery should take time unless we are really really lucky or get some useful item for train the specific move

>The same method could be used to unlock the alternative abilities of Pokemon that have them or grant a third for those that don't have one (but it would still need to make sense for the evolutionary line biologically based on OPs call and moves they can learn, like for example giving a Flareon Fur coat etc.)

>Training together with a pokemon that has a specific ability should also with some special method let the user master one of the 3 abilities by copying them. i.e. special meditation with a Houndour for a long while and you master Early Bird (which in the hands of an exercise freak or studious human would be the best long term ability one could master).
>>
>>5503169
>>5503182

All things considered, you decide that Special Attack ought to be the first thing you focus on.

A little searching uncovers some targets which you get set up and have Latias start hitting alternatively with Dragonbreath and Confusion.

Holly joins you on this with Latios and you spend the next hour with the two hitting targets and, with Latias at least, making very little progress.

You're not sure if the drill was just too simplistic or if you should've just set the one target and focused on trying to destroy it, but either way, you don't think Latias really gained much from that training session.

Still, no harm in keeping her at it.

You give her ball to Holly, give her a last pat and tell her to do just that before heading to where Fie is waiting for you in the foyer.

You catch a taxi to the CBD and follow Fie into a green grocer where you spend a blessedly uneventful shopping trip helping Fie restock her pantry.

You don't bump into Team Green, or Ian, or Mike, or even anyone just looking ofr a battle. You just do the shopping and then help Fie carry it back to the taxi rank, whereupon she goes and pays for coffee for the both of you, reappearing with a large of something close enough to what you make in the morning that you're glad of it before you settle in to wait for the taxi.

"Thanks, Alex. This lot would've been a pain between just me 'n' Cinder." She says, leaning back as she sips her own coffee.

"Hey, a moment's a moment right now." You say, putting an arm around her shoulder.

You're rewarded by her shifting in closer, though not quite to the point of laying her head on your chest.

"I guess so." She admits with a smile.

"So, was Emma just playing games back there?" You ask curiously.

Fie shakes her head.

"No, she was looking for ammo to make the next five minutes or so after you responded the most awkward of both our lives." She said with a grimace. "She's cool, but she definitely sees it as the privilege of anyone over the age of about sixty to lecture the living hell out of anyone below the age of thirty on alcohol, sex or anything else you might call a 'vice'." The taxi arriving curtails further conversation until you're back at the gym.

"I guess you're right, but no way I was bringing that up." You admit as you check in with Holly.

Apparently, she made good progress with Latias and Latios while you were out.

Leaving them to it, you head into the apartment and start helping Fie put stuff away.

"Please keep that up." Fie says, then pauses. "...By the way, you might have to rethink the sleeping arrangements again." She says.

"Huh?"

"Emma was asking if you and Gareth were a couple when you left to train. I think she might just swing by early tomorrow to catch you out."

You put dinner on after that and just have a quiet evening before finally calling it.

Despite your worries, the couch isn't so bad and you sleep like a rock through the night and wake up on time when Fie comes in the next morning before you go to start morning training.

Fortunately, there's no repeat of yesterday from Cinder and afterward, you head back on up and shower.

It's while you're having breakfast that Emma reappears, having bought pancakes.

"I mean, if it wouldn't be an imposition..." You say, helping yourself to a couple of pancakes off the stack as Holly and Gareth follow suit.

"Kid, I'm retired. I can do pretty much whatever I want." Emma says drily. "Couple wet behind the ears rookies like you two got saddled with Legendaries? Old habits die hard and there's practically no one else with the time."

"Can you really teach us how to train legendaries?" Holly asks.

Emma takes a sip of the coffee she walked in with.

"Child, if there's one thing I can say with absolute certainty after my career as a Gym Leader and my time as an Elite Four member, it's that Legendaries aren't that much different than regular pokemon. They've still got strengths and weaknesses, just their pride happens to be a bit taller as well." She adds.

"It sounds like you faced a few then." Gareth observes.

Emma nods.

"Couple of times, yeah. Had this one guy blow in from Sinnoh one year and he just started cleaning up the Gyms. Course, when he got to me, everyone had already started passing around that he was on the prowl, so instead of getting an easy win, the Darkrai he'd been using to steamroll everyone instead ended up getting worked over by a Ninetales." He won with some grace, at least, though I've rarely seen a trainer look that terrified after winning." She adds.

Training with Emma doesn't start out with just diving in.

Once you and Holly have released your respective charges, she looks them over, before turning to the two of you.

"Okay, quiz time: Do either of you know what a 'pivot' is?" Emma asks.

"Um... no..." Holly says cautiously.

Volt Switch, U-Turn, etc. IDK if we have anymore at this point.

You frown.

"The point something turns on?" You ask cautiously.

Emma nods.

"Technically correct, but there's more to it." She says. "In pokemon battling circles, a 'pivot' is defined as a move that allows a pokemon to switch out without losing the initiative and in a strategic sense as 'the strategic role of a pokemon is based on switching. For example Rotom-Wash, with Volt-Switch, is an offensive pivot as it can deal lots of damage. Corviknight or Slowbro are good example of defensive pivots, the pokemon you'll switch in to take the brunt of an attack, because they're good at taking hits and can self-heal easily."

You gulp.

That definitely sounds like Emma knows what she's talking about.

"The reason I ask, is because there're a few moves the whole strategy hinges around and I was wondering if you'd taught these two any yet, since they can learn a few of them." She explains.

"Erm... no." Holly says, shaking her head.

"I was thinking on going with Agility first." You admit. "Or maybe Dragon Dance or Calm Mind." You add.

"Good choices, but there's a pivot move that makes those moves even stronger. It's kind of overlooked by a lot of trainers because it's not as offensive as Volt-Switch or U-Turn, but it's very powerful if you use it right, nevertheless." She says.

This sounds interesting.

"What's it called?" You ask.

"Baton Pass." Emma says. "We'll go with those three moves you mentioned today as well, because they pair quite well with it, but Baton Pass is going to be our focus for the day."

Oh god, it sounds like you're back at school again.

Before now, you thought training was just repeating whatever exercise you devised to accomplish what you wanted over and over until you got the results you wanted.

Under Emma's absolutely iron hand, you learn that this might work on the road with whatever happens to be laying around, but in a gym, it's a complete waste.

Of course, most trainers don't get private tuition from a former Gym Leader and Elite Four member who knows this stuff inside and out.

She starts out easy enough with Calm Mind, since it doesn't really require any specialised equipment, though she does set you and Holly to practicing alongside Latias and Latios.

It's actually kind of hard for you, considering your aura attunement and your meditation with Gareth but it comes easily enough to Holly, Latios and Latias and eventually, you manage to get the knack for it, even managing to maintain that zen mindset when Emma starts going to town on a soup pot with a wooden spoon, creating an awful din and setting her Ninetales to hitting all four of you with Confuse Ray.

It's not a fun experience, but eventually, you have Calm Mind down to Emma's satisfaction and Latias and Latios demonstrate afterwards that they can use it consistently, quickly and without much difficulty.

Next, Emma moves onto Agility, which in comparison to Calm Mind, you have very, very little trouble with and Latias is even able to glean some insight on the move from your mind and demonstrate more effectively for Latios, vastly speeding up the teaching process.

By the time you're done with Agility, there's still an hour until lunch.

"Now then. Baton Pass." Emma says after you're done taking a break to wind down and recover from your exertions.

Holly's looking like she's starting to get tired, but fortunately, this isn't a move you can really get much out of.

To demonstrate, Emma has her Rapidash, which has already been demonstrating Agility use the move to switch to her Ninetales, whereupon you realise that actually, this move does require some pretty quick hands on your part. It's a good thing you've been practicing Agility for the past hour or so.

As it turns out, Baton Pass for the trainer only looks hard.

The trick is actually remembering who you want to switch into under pressure.

More than once, you swap into Sage instead of Fluffy, but as you keep practicing, rotating who you switch into occasionally at Emma's direction, you make fewer and fewer mistakes.

You actually think with enough practice, you might even be able to maintain enough initiative to allow your pokemon to get a simple move off during a switch.

Latios picks up the trick of passing off his speed boost to Cotton before Latias does and Holly moves on to doing some evasion training with him while Latias is still struggling.

She does eventually get the knack for it, but it's nearly lunch by the time Emma's satisfied she has Baton Pass down.

"Phew... it's been a while since I've done a training session that long." She says, sounding almost content. "I'll sleep well tonight. Might even do this again Thursday, who knows?" She says rhetorically. "Anyway, let's go have lunch. I think you've all just about earned a break."

Holly all but collapses with relief.

Emma smiles and gives you a sly smile.

"Might want to think about giving the young lady a foot rub." She suggests in an undertone.

"Thanks Emma. You're really doing me a favor with this." Fie replies, which is waved aside by the old woman.

"I'm retired, not dead." She says. "I've been raising pokemon and instructing trainers since I was your age and I'm not liable to stop until they cart me off to a home. And even then, they'll have to lock the doors." She adds with grim humor.

You turn to Gareth.

"So, what've you been up to all morning?" You ask.

"Training." He says. "And trying to track down a good place to find Prism Scales."

"Ian would probably know where we can find them." Holly notes.

"Probably." Gareth concedes. "He seems personable enough to tell us if he does, even, but I'd like to try and find out on my own before I ask."

"There's no shame in asking for help." Fie chides. "Anyway, what're your plans for this afternoon?" She asks.

Since we seem to have a consensus how about we focus on berry research, pokeblocks, portable miniature pots and pokeblocks machines.
As said in a previous thread the move Natural gift varies in type depending on berries used up so that table should be useful in determining what foods our mons need during their training.
They should also be useful for our own aura training.

Maybe look up some traditional crafting methods so we can make potions, cures and potentially pokeballs on the go.

"Sure." He says, brightening.

"If it's berries you're interested in, I know a gardening store." Emma says.

"If it wouldn't be too much of a bother..." Gareth says.

"Oh, it's fine. I need to get a few things myself." She adds.

You focus on lunch after that, before following Emma out.

To your surprise, she doesn't hail a taxi, just walks off down the road.

A bunch of hipsters duck off and two minutes later, you're jumped by Team Green thugs, but they quickly regret it.

There's half a dozen of them and they send out an assortment of pokemon, the usual Grass and Dark-types backed by Golbats you're beginning to recognise as their standard.

Before they've even drawn breath and before you or Gareth can release any of your pokemon, Emma's sent out an Incineroar and hit them with a Heat Wave, knocking them all out and sending them scattering like roaches.

"Kids these days." She sniffs, before you continue on, you and gareth sharing an incredulous look.

No surprise she used to be a League member.

You walk for about fifteen minutes, following Emma to a nursery.

There's more than a few potted berry bushes for sale and some enquiries reveal that they do indeed have a berry blender and travel pots for trainers.

They're a little pricey, but you should be able to make back the difference pretty quickly.

After you've gotten these new items, you head on home with Emma and over a cup of tea and some fruit cake that tastes strongly of whiskey, she reveals after Gareth asks, that there's a boutique in the central business district that sells Prism Scales and other such curios if you're dead set on evolving Feebas that way, but she notes they're rather expensive. And that there's a pokemon salon not far from it either.

When you're done with this snack and some inconsequential chit-chat, you leave. Gareth looks thoughtful as you walk.

"If we go check those places out now, it'll be too late to do anything else when we get back." He says at last, sounding conflicted. "D'you want to check it out, or should we leave that for before we leave?" He asks.

Also my mom used to do contests and had me study up on how Feebas evolve into Milotic because she was obsessed with the serpentine pokemon.
They need a good blend of blue pokeblocks for a while until they grow their own first prismatic scale and then they usually evolve after 2 or 3 battles won.
It's more effort but the resulting Milotic end up stronger and healthier.

"I figured you just wanted a steady supply of berries and pokemon treats." Gareth admits.

"Well, that and also, Feebas evolve into Milotic when they start growing their own Prism Scales. Which you can help along by feeding them blue poke blocks. They eat a lot of Chesto, Bluk and Kelpsi Berries in the wild, so they're a bit like dietary supplements for them. The end result of evolving Feebas that way is they tend to grow healthier and stronger than just giving them a shed Prism Scale."

"Huh. Bit of a fan of Milotic then?" He asks.

You chuckle.

"My mum is. She used to do contests and she's a big fan of serpentine pokemon in general." You explain.

"Oh, neat. Well, if we grab some berries on the way home, I'm down to help make some poke blocks." He says.

"After dinner." You say. "We might as well get some training done when we get back."

"What kind?" Gareth asks. "Just general conditioning or d'you have something specific in mind?"

"General." You reply. "I've kind of been leaving it to actual battle experience and even then, Kay O-o and Rusty have kind of been the focus for a lot of that. I'm kind of behind with everyone else." You admit. "Sage and Blitz are getting some good experience in Fie's gym, but even they could use some more attention."

You, Gareth and your respective teams are all absolutely stuffed though, between three hours of workouts and practice battles though, but your pokemon have definitely grown from the experience.

Everyone's grateful to be heading up for dinner, with the exception of Rascal, whom definitely wants to keep training.

After dinner, you unpack the berry blender and after you've set it up and read the instructions, Fie manages to locate some Chesto berries for you to blend.

With modern berry blenders, they do all the work for you.

Unfortunately, this is one of the older models which require manual input from up to four people.

Which in a certain sense is convenient, considering you've got four people.

It takes a bit of practice to actually get the timing down for using the blender properly, but once you do, the next couple of minutes as the blender purees and cooks the berries goes by faster than you'd credit, before spitting out several cerulean blue blocks of cooked, compacted Chesto Berry.

They smell enticingly savory, but they're not for you.

You divvy the dozen or so blocks up between the four of you before taking a minute to clean it out.

In the aftermath, you're taken by surprise as Holly comes up and hugs you, beaming happily.

"Uh..." You say uncertainly.

"I love making poke blocks the old fashioned way." Holly explains as she releases you, in no way self-conscious. "I used to do it all the time with mum, so it was nice to be able to do it again."

"You're welcome..." You say, still taken aback by Holly's sudden effusiveness. "I was mostly thinking this was the best way to raise our Feebas, but I'm glad you had fun." You admit.

Holly beams again, before taking over cleaning up, leaving you at loose ends.

"What're you up to now?" Fie asks.

"Going to go down to the arena and spend some time with Fluffy." You reply.

Fie nods.

"Sure thing." She says, giving you a thumbs up before you head out into the gym proper.

(Part 1)
>>

When you get to the arena, the moon's up, painting it in silvery light and providing ample light for you to play with Fluffy.

You don't get up to anything too strenuous or complicated, just running around playing tag and fetch for a while before settling down to pet him and watch the moon.

Fluffy gives a sigh of contentment and gradually nods off.

You keep petting him a while longer as the moon begins to slip behind the edge of the arena's roof, before you return him and head back to the apartment.

To your surprise, Fie's still up when you get back, busily filling out and filing paperwork.

She looks up with a wry look as you enter, before shifting her attention back to the paperwork.

"The less glamorous side of being a gym leader." She explains. "Tends to put me to sleep, so..."

"I get it." You assure.

"You're free to bunk with me tonight. After a day like that, Emma's not going to be coming in until tomorrow afternoon for lunch." Fie says uncertainly, before giving you an impish look. "Unless there is something between you and Gareth. Or Holly. I won't judge." She jokes.

"Ha-ha." You reply, deadpan.

She smiles.

"Seriously though, this is going to take a hot minute." She says, indicating the paperwork.

Sidenote: I'm sorry this is less montage and more a condensed version of what we've been doing so far, but there's enough meat in the 'first time' interactions to warrant actually writing it out.

It's a little awkward given she's still working on the paperwork while you do, but you soon get the hang of it and Fie starts to relax more and more as she slowly works her way through the stack of paperwork.

"This is nice..." She sighs contently.

"Well that's good, because I hate to think what'd happen if I botched this." You joke.

Fie snorts.

"It almost sounds like I scare you." She notes with the hint of a grin in her voice.

You have to chuckle at this.

Then Fie sits straighter.

"Oh yeah, got something I kind of need to talk with you about." She says.

"I'm listening." You assure.

"So, I called someone I know for some advice for Holly." Fie begins. "Winston, the Psychic gym leader. I figured he'd be able to send exercises or something."

"Mm?" You say as you move to the small of her back, smiling as she leans back into your fingers.

"So, he asked after how we found out she was an emergent and when I told him about that first dream and how you kicked that..." She sighs. "'Construct's' ass, he rather emphatically advised that the number one thing we can do, is keep the two of you close." She says. "Particularly, while she's asleep."

"Why's that?" You ask, pausing in your massage.

"Skipping over the technical babble, apparently when you shattered that construct of her father, you became some sort of psychic anchor." Fie says, then shakes her head. "That's the best way I can explain Winston's diatribe on the subject." She adds tiredly.

"What about everyone else?" You ask with a frown.

This sounds way too much like inviting complications between you and fie for your liking. And way too much like giving Holly mixed signals, for that matter.

"To use Winston's terminology, we're 'secondary supports', while you're Holly's 'capstone support'. I bought up your accident on the island and apparently, the reason the rest of us were there was probably what kept her from having a flare up. Same with when you went out this afternoon, I was here, but I was getting kind of headache-y until you came back, then it cleared up. The rest of the staff reported the same." Fie explains. "That's about when I decided to make time and call him. So... yeah. Holly's psychically unstable, apparently bloody *powerful* given the building-wide headaches while you were out and her stability is pretty dependent on her proximity to you."

"Did Winston actually *give you* any exercises for Holly beyond what Judy's Gardevoir did, or did he forget that while he was cooking up how to try stirring up drama?" You ask, trying not to sound annoyed.

It's not like you *dislike* spending time with Holly, but you're trying to remain in the Friend Zone where she's concerned, for Arceus's sake. You don't want to wind up her familiar or something and this sounds like something a bored pervert would come up with.

"No, apparently she either needs instruction from a human expert or a strong Psychic type." Fie replies.

"Thank Arceus." You say with relief. "Latios-"

"Yeah, without going into detail, I mentioned him and apparently he's not powerful enough." Fie says. "Judy's Gardevoir or Kathryn's Alakazam is the sort of tutor she needs."

"Fuuuck." You swear, drawing the curse out.

"Fortunately for you, there's somewhere pretty close by you can probably find one." Fie says wryly. "The only problem is going to be convincing them to help."

"The Barrier Islands?" You guess.

"The Barrier Islands." Fie confirms.

"We'd better tell Gareth and Holly in the morning." You say tiredly.

"Yeah, we'd better." Fie agrees.

"...Winston didn't suggest anything that sounded like an elaborate prank, did he?" You ask suspiciously.

"Like what? I wouldn't know psychic powers from a bar of soap." Fie admits frankly, turning to actually look at you on this.

"You know... dumb shit like making out naked under the full moon or something." You say, waving vaguely for emphasis.

"He didn't suggest that, but he absolutely deadpan suggested the two of you should make out on at least a weekly basis. And then told me not to death-glare him because he was dead serious."

"What." You say, short, sharp and serious from complete and total shock yourself.

Fie sighs in annoyance.

"Allegedly, due to how highly rational and logical psychic powers are, they can turn young Psychics kind of sociopathic if they're reckless or occasionally just as a side-effect sometimes, without emotional grounding and..." Fie trails off with a groan. "I swear, the first call I make in the morning is to that detective lady to vet this shit, because it sounds like anime fanservice or something out of Winston's Dirty Old Man collection." She says as a blush creeps up her neck. "...Anyway, apparently, the risk is greater the stronger the psychic and apparently the best way to emotionally ground a Psychic is ...intimacy." She says in about the driest and most disbelieving tone of voice you've ever heard.

"...You're right, that does sound like something out of a bad two-dollar romance." You agree with a grimace.

Fie nods, before taking a drink and turning back to her paperwork.

"If Winston isn't completely full of shit on this - and we're checking with Detective Winters before we tell Holly - then I guess you'd better pencil Kalosing Holly into your schedule, at least for this week." She says, exasperated, setting aside the most recent form.

I'm guessing the narrative is:

>Humans are naturally Psychic/Fighting type and lean into one or the other aspect more depending on talent at birth.
>Those who aren't natural born psychics can still train for it by training a large number of psychic pokemon but their methods are actually aura based
>Each have their own downsides to deal with, I. E. Aura masters personality is affected by their sura (dragon aura making them agressive and haughty but also righteous and honest needing to manage those traits) and psychics having to deal with mental issues such as feelings of abandonment, phobias that they subconsciously manifest in the world.
>>
>>5536671
>Resume the massage.
"...Awesome. So I've managed to make someone hilariously dependent upon me by sleeping wrong. Look, Fie I'd rather schedule those Kalosing sessions with you. Holly is a nice girl and all, but im not that kinda guy. I REALLY don't need that drama in my life. I really didn't mean to make this girl so dependent upon my existence, didn't even know i was doing it at the time to be perfectly honest."
Right so Fie is now VERY mad. Perks of playing "Big Damn Hero"(tm) I suppose.
>>
>>5536674
>Yes, I find the idea of Sabrina's bullshit in the OG series being the result of her not being hugged enough hilarious, why do you ask?

You have read Hard Enough didn't you OP...
In her case her mid reading ability basically made everyone else loud so she self isolated and her parents let it happen for whatever reason (likely neglect due to focusing on Gym duties or post Kanto-Jhoto war shit like PTSD).

In Holly's case she was deliberately isolated by her father.
Either the reason was to keep her and others safe or something more nefarious that we don't know.
Right now she needs to be emotionally grounded by interacting with others and us staying close to watch over her without encouraging her to be emotionally dependent on us.
Gareth also being a sheltered kid who grew up in a monastery and apparently having some curiosity towards Psychics (likely one of his Aura attributes) will mean we basically have to tutor the both of them on how to be sociable and teach them some common sense.

Guess we could suggest Holly starts by assisting the gyms breeder/pokemon caretaker while maybe focusing on the Houndour line because their dark type should help her restrain her abilities a bit.
Otherwise we need to drag her around for training and off time.
For that matter, Gareth is meticulous so encouraging him to do pencil pusher work or assist at the reception could help in his case.
This might seem like a lot but we are basically freeloading at the gym for the foreseeable future (at least 1 month depending on how the psychic training goes) so the whole group helping out is a given.

Emma should probably know something about psychic powers since a lot of fire type mons also have them and her her ace is a Ninetails too.
Asking her would require us and Fie to be ready to fess up about the relationship tho.

>>

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I think it's implied that Holly and Alex would have to sleep next to each other for it to work.
>>
>>5537038
Yeah no.
Proximity is required but let us not cross that boundary with anyone but Fie.

Alex might feel Blue-balled tho...
We will need to deal with that somehow.
Some intense exercise and meditation to fire off all his energy before bed time will do.
>>
>>5537067
I agree. Last time Holly 'slept' with us we went into her dream, and it got a bit dangerous. As a character Alex seems to have enough self-control to resist (though that might change with Holly's psychic influence, who knows), but even then that boundary isn't something we should cross like you said.
>Some intense exercise and meditation to fire off all his energy before bed time will do.

Basically an immersive story with Brock having changed pre-Ashnime due to being reborn from our world.
Heavy theme on how society works, aura, politics, running a gym etc.
Brock tapping into Dark type Aura and using it to help Sabrina with her Psychic issues during her childhood is also one of the plot points.
Instead of a creepy woman-child she becomes a socially awkward genius lusting after Brock and threatening his dad Flint with a shovel to not leave the family again.
Right now it looks like Borcks younger brother Forrest will be the one following Ash.

You're silent as you resume where you left off.

This whole conversation has left a bad taste in your mouth.

It almost has you thinking of Holly as an obstacle between you and Fie and you don't want that.

You do care about her and she is your friend. At the same time, you don't want to hurt her, which you know starting a romantic relationship with her or giving her mixed signals will do. Which is why you decided not to do any of that before.

If this is a joke on Winston's part or him trying to throw you a bone or something, you're going to have to set him straight when you actually meet him, because Arceus above, has he stirred up shit and it's not helpful.

If he was actually serious... well, fuck. You'd better help Holly find a Psychic teacher ASAP.

A chill goes down your spine at the thought of Holly overhearing all this. Both the conversation and your thoughts.

That'd be awkward at best.

"... Let's try to find another option. First, trip to Barrier Islands and vetting Winston. Then, if we really lack other options, we'll rediscuss it. Because I really don't want to do it." You say at length, pausing to take a drink yourself.

"Agreed." Fie says.

You rub your brow.

"Now I'm getting a headache." You say, annoyed, then sigh. "I'll make it up to you, since it's technically my fault for being-"

"Nope, stop right there." Fie says. "Do not go blaming yourself for stepping in to help Holly with her demons like that." She admonishes. "You did the right thing. Even knowing you were setting up this... psychic link, or whatever, you still absolutely did the right thing." She says emphatically. "I know you're not going to try pushing for a threeway or some dumb shit like that."

"I'm not that kind of person." You agree.

"I know." Fie assures. "I know. And I know I sound mad, but it's not directed at you, or Holly. I'm mad at this situation, because it's fucked up. And possibly Winston for being an inconsiderate jackass."

You're silent after that as Fie finishes her paperwork and you sit down to enjoy your drinks, before you both go and fall into bed.

"Yeah..." You agree tiredly.

It's not long before you fall asleep.

You don't sleep soundly.

Your sleep is disrupted by the occasional flash of Holly's room and flashes of her from odd angles, but nothing coherent comes from it.

When you awaken the next morning as the alarm goes off, you feel exhausted and a little grumpy.

Fortunately, a hot shower fixes most of this and when you and Fie step out into the lounge, Holly's waiting with a pot of coffee and a somewhat anxious expression, but she gives you a weak smile all the same.

"Thanks Holly." Fie says gratefully. "Sorry if we woke you last night." She says.

"It's okay, it kind of sounded like you had a right to be upset." Holly replies.

There's an awkward sort of tension between them and you can very easily imagine the two of them either apologising all morning or having a shouting match.

"Winston might be a psychic expert and a mindreader, but he's a fucking idiot when it comes to people." Fie says frankly. "Which is saying something, considering the mind reading thing."

"So... are you going to make that call now...?" Holly asks awkardly.

Fie nods and drains her coffee.

"Might as well." She admits.

You go get your pokedex and ring Detective Winters' number.

She picks up on the second ring.

++"Yeah, Winters."++ She says briskly.

She doesn't sound in the least bit tired.

"Detective. It's Fiona Armstrong." Fie says. "Just want to vet something Winston, the Psychic gym leader told me last night while I was asking for advice with regards to Holly." She says, apparently deciding it's too early in the morning to be playing games.

++"It's a good thing I'm not at work right now."++ She says, more to herself than Fie. ++"Go ahead, what d'you want to know?"++

"So, Winston went and suggested that Alex defeating a 'construct' of Holly's fears during a dream she pulled us all into resulted in him becoming a 'capstone support' for Holly's powers." Fie begins.

++"That sounds about right for a powerful emergent Psychic, but really? Alex went and broke a Fear Construct?"++ Winters says, sounding downright impressed.

"Beat it down and shattered it into motes of light in the dream." Fie confirms. "That's not the part that I really want to check, but is that significant?" She asks.

++"In the sense that it's the sort of thing only a trained Psychic can generally do."++ Winters replies. ++Particularly a Fear Construct. They're manifestations of a persons inner-most fears and tend to be incredibly hard to deal with. Usually, it requires the person it originates from to directly combat it in their mindscape, empowered by a psychic to effectively destroy, backed by conventional therapy. For a stranger to destroy one like that and a normal person at that..."++ She trails off in thought. ++"My first thought is that Holly must really believe in you, Alex. My second, is that she's stupid powerful."++

"Okay..." Fie says, sounding disquieted.

++"Have you found a pokemon capable of teaching her yet?"++ Winters asks. ++"I'd hate to imagine the fallout if she had a flare up if he wasn't there to stabilise or ground her."++

"Erm... no." Fie admits awkwardly. "Alex was going on the weekend. And I guess Holly is as well." She adds. "But grounding, that's the big thing. Can you tell us what 'grounding' entails for a Psychic?"

++"In the context of a flare-up, just proximity or physical with who or whatever the specific Emergent has Anchored to will help mitigate, calm or outright dissipate it."++ Winters replies.

"Thaaank you~" Fie says sweetly.

++"I wasn't finished. In a more general context, it entails undoing the emotional 'deadening' overuse of psychic power can induce. It's a particular problem for Emergents, because they have less control and it tends to default to 'always on.' Incidentally, alcohol makes it worse, so much as you might want to experiment, don't give Holly any."++ Acadi advises.

(Part 2)
>>

"And what does that entail?" Fie asks with a fixed smile.

++"Spending time with their Anchor. It's easy for those of us with an inanimate Anchor. We just meditate with it and focus on it. If someone has a pokemon as their focus, same thing: Meditation. Or just spending quality time with them."++ Winters says.

"And if the Anchor is a person?" Fie asks with a manic edge to the question.

++"...Okay, I think I get it."++ Winters says, with a snort of amusement. ++"If the Anchor is a person - and that person is someone the Emergent trusts, mutual consent, et cetera, et cetera - the basic stuff - then cuddling onward is a particularly effective means of grounding, but meditation still works, you just need to do it more. Once a day as opposed to once a week, on average, for comparison."++ She explains.

"I'm going to fucking *kill* Winston next time I see him." Fie pronounces, still with that fixed smile.

++"Was that all?"++ Winters asks, politely ignoring Fie's fury.

"Yeah, that was all we were concerned about." You confirm. "Thanks for the help, Detective."

++"You're the one doing me a favor here. Good luck finding Holly a teacher. And try get on that ASAP before she accidentally causes suburb wide blackouts or something."++ She says.

With that, she hangs up and you're left hoping that she was being hyperbolic for effect.

"Let's talk with Gareth to set up a daily meditation session.
Also me shattering that construct deffinetly has to do with my aura, whether it influenced those around me or empowered me enough to do so.
Maybe we can ask his family for further advice."

Honestly i think in the dreamspace where we fessed up to Holly about liking Fie that it was really Fie giving us a test to see how we would act...
So in fact Alex wouldn't cheat of Fie even in dreams... LMAO

I really feel like getting back at Winston but guess you can't help an old man being a pervert.

Let's arrange meditation sessions with Gareth.
Fie i also think you should participate as well just to be sure.
Who knows maybe there will be an opportunity to awaken your aura too.

>Who's for breakfast?
I'll scramble some eggs and bacon.

"Well, thank Arceus we got *that* straightened out." You say.

Holly nods, mutely, but she does look vaguely disappointed.

"Yes, indeed." Fie says, shaking her head. "Let's just... get breakfast started." She adds tiredly. "We can get some morning training done after."

"I'll make bacon and eggs." You say, striding for the kitchenette.

"Sounds good." Fie agrees as she moves to fix coffee.

You're about halfway done plating up when Winters' last note about Holly potentially causing large-scale blackouts and Fie's note about her and everyone else getting a low-level headache while you and Gareth were out connect and you're left with the realisation she wasn't referring to power outages.

"You know..." You say slowly. "Maybe we *should* bump up going to the Barrier Islands."

"If you want to, then I'm not going to stop you." Fie says. "Just advise you bring the strongest team you can manage and note that I can't go with you right now, because Emma can't cover for me after yesterday and I need to leave advance notice." She adds. "I can, however, loan you, Holly, a Houndoom as an insurance policy in case trying to find a teacher goes tits up."

"Thank you." She says shyly.

"I'd also grab your gear, just in case." Fie suggests. "It might wind up taking you a day or two and a bit of island hopping to find a good teacher."

"What's this?" Gareth asks as he walks in. "Why're you talking about the Barrier Islands again so soon?"

>We got some further context on Holly's psychic emergence.

So before anything goes awry we better get that done.
Come and grab a meal before we plan ahead for the trip around the islands to find one.
Got any cues on what meditation practice we should do in the meantime?

"Holly *needs* a teacher and the only realistic option is a strong psychic pokemon." You explain. "Her powers are unstable and-"

"-And considering everyone barring Holly got a headache yesterday while you and Alex were out on your walk, the sooner the better before she has a flare up and Arceus knows what happens." Fie adds pointedly. "Right now, we've been informed the best way to stabilise Holly is if she meditates with Alex." She says.

Gareth looks taken aback.

"Really? That's what you were yelling about last night?" He asks, non-plussed.

"D'you want to join in on that?" You ask him, only for Gareth to shake his head, to your surprise.

"No, I'd best not. Aura and Psychic powers generally don't mix. They're opposites." He explains.

"For your information, I was yelling, because Winston, the-"

"Oh, the so-called 'Magister'." Gareth says, shaking his head. "What's he done now?" He asks tiredly.

"...Right, you're from around Coralview." Fie recalls.

"The old pervert suggested the best thing for Holly would be if we made out." You explain.

"Actually, Winston's only twenty-eight." Gareth says. "I can absolutely see him giving advice like that without actually considering anyone's feelings on the matter though. He's not emotionally dead, but his sense of empathy is... stunted. At the very least." He adds, then sobers. "In this specific case though, he might actually be right."

"What."

Gareth raises his hands defensively.

"Hear me out on this. It's to do with the fact your aura is active and as strong and loud as it is." He explains.

>Explain.
>What's that got to do with anything?
