/qst/ - Quests

You are Walter, the Isoin Region’s illegitimate underdog and the target of a group of hired thugs sent to claim both your life, and the Pokémon you recently “liberated” from their employers. After escaping the first wave of hitmen, you and Aaron went off to the heart of Route 3 in order to lead the remaining ones into a soon to be well laid trap. Aaron, being the expert that he is, left your base of operations to find seeds to use in the upcoming fight and he invited you to come along and help him.

Though the idea of setting up some makeshift traps sounds like a good idea, there’s something else you wanted to check out here. Last week, you ran into a pair of wild Pokémon that got your attention after helping toy with a trio of rampaging Onix. You tried to recruit them, but they didn’t seem interested in leaving their home. However, there is no doubt in your mind that they would aid you in your time of need if you could find them and explain your situation.

>Look for Teddiursa and Seedot

Though you understand the importance of utilizing ever resource available in order to slow the hit squad down, you know that the outcome of the battle will largely depend on your Pokémon and the way you use them. While you have faith in your team, the men and women you will face are professionals and they didn’t get to that point by losing to mere trainers let alone beginners such as yourself. What you need is numbers, and that is what you intend to seek out.

With Armo by your side, you search the forest for your former allies. There isn’t much time until your pursuers close in on your location and wandering through the wilderness in with only your socks to protect your feet has slowed your pace considerably. Thankfully, Armo seems to have picked up on something and much like with Aaron, he seems to have remembered the scent of both Teddiursa and Seedot. Given time, you have no doubt that you could find them with Armo’s help, but you don’t know whether you have the time to spare.

Result(s): The Search Continues

The hunt for Teddiursa and Seedot takes you much farther out than you anticipated, and as you continue your trek, you slowly begin to question whether searching near caves was the best idea. You had simply assumed that they would be near one given what you learned in Trainers’ School but the fact that you met them near a river causes you to second guess your decision. Regardless, Armo has enough assurance for the both of you and continues to follow his nose, unfettered from concepts such as deadlines. You however are considering turning around and going back. The hit squad should be very close to the ambush site by now, and though Aaron is a solid trainer, fending off multiple skilled opponents is something you would only expect from a member of the League. Being absent from the battle will almost certainly spell his doom, and even with your help victory is not a sure thing.

I lost the chance to congratulate you for such a nice quest in the previous thread. I'm having tremendous fun. As someone said in the archived thread, this hitman thing is nice but a strange side quest being just a kid overall. But I'm really curious about that labything still and where it could take us. Well guys it’s finally happened, the QM curse is setting in. To make a long story short, I’ll be forced to mobile post until time and money permits. After settling a brief internal conflict, you chalk your mission up to a sunk cost and press on.

‘If I’m going to show up late, I’m not showing up empty handed. Those two have to be around here somewhere.’ You think to yourself.

You continue to follow the ever nonchalant Armo as he dutifully continues his search. At first you start out fairly optimistic. Sure it was a bit concerning that you hadn’t seen hide nor hair of your Pokémon of interest, but you figured that you’ve traveled far enough that you would find some trace of them without having to rely on Amro’s incredible sense of smell. After a while however, it dawns on you that you’re only digging a deeper hole for both Aaron and yourself and you decide to turn back.

Letting out a defeated sigh, you pick up your eager tracker and place him on your shoulder. “Let’s pack it in Armo. They must be too far away for us to get to in time. Hopefully nothing serious happened while we were gone.”

Armo is much more willing to stick to his guns than you anticipated however, and leaps off of your shoulder before taking off towards a cluster of nearby bushes. A flock of Pidgey burst out of the foliage whilst squeaking loudly as Armo plows through the leaves. After a minute, your companion returns with an odd purple stone. Even without extraordinary senses, even you can tell that this stone contains special properties.

“I’m no geologist, but this looks like a pretty good find. Nice work buddy, you’ve proven your point.” You’re trying to sound somewhat genuine, but the clock is still ticking.

Armo notices the rushed tone in your voice but he relents and tosses the stone at you before turning back towards the ambush site. After fumbling the catch, you scoop up the stone from the ground and follow after the yellow blur as quickly as you can.

By the time you get back, sheer chaos has erupted on the battlefield. Currently Aaron is frantically attempting to command his whole team against four figures wearing all black trench coats along with their own set of Pokémon. One of them is a short male with red hair commanding a Ninjask against a Machamp. Another is a woman of similar stature with a pink mohawk is ordering a Skarmory to attack Zangoose. The third is a large dark-skinned male utilizing a Electrode against Aaron’s Bronzor and Staraptor. The fourth is a male with dark hair and sharp eyebrows with a Houdoom by his side. He of course is squaring off against Aaron and Salamence. The fifth member of the crew, a rather plain looking man wearing shades, lies in the dirt twitching erratically. If you had to guess, Aaron must have hit him with one of the Stun Seeds that he collected while you were gone.

Stepping up to the plate, you dodge and weave through the various chaotic battles taking place all around the cave and get within rock throwing distance of the wild haired woman.

“Room for four more?”You grin

The woman quickly turns to you and Armo and places her hand on her hip. “I was wondering where the other target ran off to. Was this sad attempt at a trap really the best you could come up with?” She then looks at Armo dismissively “Sometimes I wonder why we get contracts to hunt down amateurs like you.”

“Let’s hope your ‘professional killer’ certificate isn’t all you have going for you.” You retort as your bring out Monsoon and Sephira our as well.

“Kids these days.” Remarks Thrasher. “Skarmory, sweep these kids out of the way and get back to dealing with the real threat.”

A few yards away, Zangoose takes another swipe at the armored bird but his attack is avoided and the Skarmory flies into the air before turning its attention to you. It then quickly beats its wings in order to prepare a swift attack meant to take all of you out in one fell swoop.

Before you do anything, you take the purple lump that Armo found on the way back and give it to Sephira. The lump then vanishes inside of her but no observable change occurs.

“Alright guys, let’s shoot it down! Monsoon, hit it with Water Gun and Sephira, blast it with Fire Spin!”

The elementally attuned duo quickly charge their respective attacks and prepare to launch then but before they can act, a huge gust of sharp wind is hurled at them. Armo recognizes the damaged this situation presents and dives out of the way just in the nick of time. Monsoon and Sephira are wide open however, and are blasted by the full force of the attack, sending them and the dirt around them flying. The pair land hard in the dirt and bits of the ground rain down around them. Out of the two, only Sephira manages to get back on her feet despite the massive amount of damage she received. Despite this impressive display of durability, you have a feeling that the purple rock may have had something to do with it. You also get the sense that another hit like that will put her down for good.

Back at the crash site, Sephira violently shakes her head and roars in frustration before firing off a spiraling blast of flame at her airborne foe, nailing it with incredible accuracy. The attack seems to have done little to Skarmory however but the flames never dissipate and instead cling to its armored hide as it snakes its way around the bird.

Thrasher observes the scene with satisfaction and shifts her gaze to her partner. “One down, two to go. Try again and this time, don’t miss.”

Skarmory lets out a terrible metallic shriek in affirmation and begins to gather up wind once again. It before twitching with pain as the flames continue to swirl across its body.

‘It’s much faster than I thought it would be.’ You think to yourself as you go over your options. ‘This is like the battle with Bronzor but much, much worse. I’ll need to use every trick I can think of to get us out of this. Hopefully Fire Spin’s effects will put a dent in it while I come up with something.’

As you look from Monsoon’s unconscious form, to Sephira shakily standing her ground, you decide that another creative use of Rollout is in order. For the last two weeks, people have been lecturing you about needing more than just power to win, but in this moment power is the only thing that’s on your mind.

“Sephira, can you cover for Armo while he gets ready?” You call out to the blazing cub.

The tuff of hair on Sephira’s head burns hotly as she begins to gather more embers inside of her maw.

As this is going on, you turn your attention to your armored companion who is currently staring down Thrasher. “Armo, use Rollout the same way you did in the labyrinth!”

Armo snaps his focus to you and nods before curling up and briefly flashing green. He then shoots off in the direction opposite to you and slams into a nearby boulder before heading towards the cave.

Thrasher raises an eyebrow and simply orders Skarmory to attack Armo with a single hand motion. The winds pick up once again and slice into the ground beneath him, but the golden rodent is far too quick and evades the assault. While Skarmory attempts to keep track of Armo’s erratic movements, it is suddenly
pelted from behind by Sephira’s flames once again. Before it can turn and shift its attention to her, Zangoose joins the fray once again and leaps past Skarmory while throwing a blindly fast flurry of punches and kicks, knocking it out of the sky.

Thrasher lets out a frustrated sigh as Skarmory takes a tumble in the dirt. “Pull yourself together and finish this with off with Sky Attack!”

Skarmory viciously shakes it’s head in a similar fashion to Sephira and picks itself back up. The Fire Spin’s flames weave around its body once more as it stands with its wings outstretched and begins to glow brightly. Minor tremors shockwaves begin to exude from the steel clad bird as the glow becomes blinding. This move seems to be several leagues above anything you’ve ever witnessed before and simply by standing in the general area of Skarmory, you can tell that this attack could plow through almost anything with little difficulty.

As Skarmory continues to build its power, Zangoose steps in front of it and begins wailing on the armored avian once again. Despite the beat it’s taking, Skarmory stands firm and continues to exude a massive amount of pressure.

“We shouldn’t just stand here.” You remark as Skarmory lets out an earth splitting call. ”Let’s get somewhere safe Sephira,

Much like Armo, Sephira understands that standing in the path of Skarmory would be foolish and begins to slowly back away along with you. Eventually, Zangoose tires himself out and puts a hold on his fast paced assault in order to regain his stamina. Both Thrasher and Skarmory look down upon the three of you, assured of their victory now that nothing stands in the the way for Skarmory’s finishing blow. Unfortunately for the both of them, Armo makes a sudden return after bouncing off a nearby tree, and rockets towards Skarmory with a large trail of rocks flying behind him. Armo’s curled up form slams the sturdy bird in its side and sends it skidding across the ground just as Zangoose did before. When the dust settles, Armo is still on his feet and looks ready for another go. To his and your horror however, Skarmory is still standing and with another loud call propels it’s self into the air at breakneck speeds, causing the dirt below it to fly everywhere.

“I guess I had more than credentials on my side huh kid?” Laughs Thrasher as Skarmory performs as shuttle loop and prepares to strike.

Her laughter is cut short however as flames engulf Skarmory once more in a helix pattern, causing it to suddenly dip. Skarmory rapidly looses altitude and
crashes into the ground for the third and final time as the glow around it fades.

“Would you care to repeat that?” You ask smugly, attempting to hide the fact that you were drowning in your own terror mere seconds ago.

“Sure.” Thrasher replies as she returns Skarmory to its ball. “You might not have enough time to process what I said though.”

Before she can threaten you further, Zangoose steps in once again and downs her with a series of punches and kicks, ending the fight for good.

“I’d hate to be her tomorrow.” You say as Zangoose stands over her with a cold stare. “Thanks for the save Zangoose.”

Aaron’s companion simply nods as Armo tries and fails to solicit a high five from him. As you survey the area, you observe that the battle is coming to a close. A few of Aaron’s Pokémon are either hurt or unconscious but the hit squad is fairing no better. You focus on Aaron and Salamence as well as Hell Razor and Houdoom in order to watch as Salamence wraps things up with a devastating Dragon Claw to Houndoom’s side, burying it into the ground and leaving only his master left.

“Surrendering is still an option.” Aaron offers as Hell Razor grits his teeth at the scene before him.

“How could this happen?” Asks the man with jagged eyebrows as he stares at his unconscious, slumbering, and paralyzed cohorts.

“Careful planning and a bit of luck goes a long way.” Comments Aaron as his team returns to him. “Of course, having a team you can rely on never hurts either.

Hell Razor sighs as he drops the duffel bag by his side and places his hands up in surrender.

An hour later, the police arrive on the scene and take over with the situation with help of their small squadron of Machamps. After several minutes of being interview by Cycad’s finest, you and Aaron are finally allowed to leave as the hit squad and their Pokémon are loaded into the police vans. After a short hike, and a bit of searching, you find yourself back in Aaron’s car and on the road back into town.

“I want to apologize again for getting you involved in this Walter,” Aaron says while keeping his eyes on the road. “I should’ve taken a closer look at that place before bringing you there. We may have won today, but there’s no guarantee that this is over.”

“Well, we’re still here and we’re going home. That’s all that matters in the end.”

“I can’t argue with that, and I also couldn’t have done it without you.”

“You and your team did most of the work.” You reply as you shrug in your seat.

“Yes, well I appreciate your help regardless, despite how late it came. I didn’t see everything but I’m impressed by what little I did see. I’m sure you’ll make a great Trainer some day. You might even qualify for next years tournament if you keep at it.”

“Well, I need to get my license first.” You say. “I still need to save up some more money so you probably won’t see much of me for a few weeks.”

“I understand, some of us have a longer road than others, but there’s no doubt in my mind that your journey is just beginning.”

The two of you spend the rest of the trip talking about the events surrounding the battle and discussing future plans. It’s nice being able to socialize with someone after years of isolation and two weeks of nonstop adventure and peril, but before you know it, you’re back at the apartment and getting ready to leave the car.

“I’m going to head back to work and make sure everything’s safe. Keep your eyes peeled for anything suspicious.” Says Aaron as you climb out of his dirt smeared car.

“Same to you. Thanks for everything Aaron, I’ll see you around.”

In response, Aaron gives you a quick salute before taking off and leaving you to your own devices.

“Now what am I supposed to do?” You wonder aloud as you head back to your mom’s apartment.

>Get something to eat

As you walk down the street, your hunger becomes impossible to ignore. All you had today was a few bowls of cereal and today’s events have used up all of that energy and then some. Upon checking your wallet, you realize that you are practically broke once again and have no other option but to head back home in order to throw something together.

When you return home, you collapse on the couch with the intent to stay there for a few minutes. Your stomach has other ideas however and its protests prompt you to get up from your perch. You shuffle to the refrigerator and search in ever corner for something to eat. You are disappointed, but not surprised to find that the only solid foods within the fridge are bacon, several slices of cheese, and two plates of salad wrapped in plastic.

“If Mom doesn’t bring back anything before the weekend, we’re goners.” You mumble to yourself as you take out the foods and stack them onto a plate. “Some things just never change.” You sigh.

After heating up everything and adding some condiments, you begin to dig in. The meal is passable all things considered and at the very least your stomach isn’t clawing at your insides anymore. With nothing else to do, you return to your room and retrieve the box that you stored under your bed and bring it to the living room. You take the Pokédex from the box and open your briefcase before giving the balls inside a quick scan. The information revealed is as follows:

Sandshrew Lv. 11
Moves: Rapid Spin, Counter, Rollout, Defense Curl (Fury Cutter available)
Ability: Sand Rush
Nature: Lax

Ducklett Lv. 9
Moves: Water Gun, Defog, Water Sport, Wing Attack
Ability: Big Pecks
Nature: Timid

Litleo Lv. 13
Moves: Ember, Fire Spin, Headbutt, Work Up
Ability: Rivalry
Nature: Brave

Honedge Lv. 12
Moves: Fury Cutter, Shadow Sneak, Autotomize, Aerial Ace
Ability: No Guard
Nature: Bold

“That explains a lot,” You remark as you look over the information displayed on the tiny screen. “Though ‘Bold’ is a pretty tame way to describe Honedge. Speaking of which.”

You decide that since you might as well get more acquainted with your new Pokémon but given their general dislike of you, you decide that taking them someplace away from the apartment would be the smart thing to do. Picking up the briefcase once more, you leave home and make your way towards the hill overlooking the town. You’ve done several days worth of brooding on the hill and have never been disturbed, so it seems like the perfect location to deal with potentially volatile Pokémon.

Eventually you reach the top of the hill and take a look around for any bystanders. Thankfully the general area appears to be empty.

“I guess it’s time to meet with the rest of my team,” you say before sitting down open the briefcase. “But who should I bring out first?”

“I guess Sephira will be the least likely to kill me of the two.” You remark as you select her ball and toss it onto the grass.

The fire cub emerges in a flash of light and crouches low in anticipation of a battle. To her disappointment, you’re the only one that seems to be around and she gives you a dismissive look before sauntering towards some nearby trees. She scans the foliage above her for a few seconds before suddenly ramming her head into the trunk, causing a previously unseen Spearow to fall out of the tree. The poor bird hardly has any time to process the situation before a burst of embers come flying towards it.

>Get her to pay attention to you

You consider trying to get Sephira’s attention on your own but you realize that she has only ever listened to you in life or death situations which there have been an abundance of recently, conveniently enough. In this case however, the Spearow is in far more trouble than your predator of a Pokémon so trying to rein her in won’t work.

“I’ll need some backup for this one,” You say as you take two more balls from the briefcase. “Go Armo, and Monsoon!” You then throw the two balls right in Sephira’s path.

The flashes of light temporarily blind the fire cub who closes her eyes and backs away to escape from the luminous obstruction. Once the lights fade, Sephira opens her eyes once again and comes face to face with Armo and Monsoon. In response, she raises herself to her full height and launches another burst of flames at the fleeing Spearow, fainting it instantly. She then glares daggers at Armo and lets out a threatening roar in order to assert dominance. For his part, Armo simply rolls his eyes and ignores the display which only angers her further. Monsoon on the hand looks twice as scared as he did when you first introduced him to Armo and takes several steps back. Despite her showboating, from what you can tell Sephira has a grudging respect for your stalwart starter possibly due to their previous bout along the power he displayed in the labyrinth and during the battle against Skarmory. Armo doesn’t seem to care about any of that however and begins to converse with Monsoon with various squeaks and hand motions. You have no idea what he’s saying to him, but Monsoon’s seems to be a little less frightened than he was moments before.

“I guess you aren’t so bad after all Sephira.” You say as you approach the trio.

In response Sephira exhales a cloud of smoke through her nose but doesn’t make any attempt to hurl embers at you. It’s a start at least.

Now that it’s been established that being around Sephira isn’t hazardous to your health, you feel tempted to bring out Remise but he seemed far more interested in killing you than her considering the circumstances.

With your mind made up, you take out the final occupied ball and send out the malicious, haunted blade. As soon a the light fades and Remise’s form is revealed, the sword propels itself a several feet away from you before twirling around and holding himself erect. You’re initially surprised by this reaction, but Remise continues to surprise you when he begins scraping himself along the ground in a clear, yet indiscernible pattern. Your confusion slowly fades however once you take a closer look at the ground and realize that Remise has written you a message in the dirt. It’s very short, no more than three words, but it is direct and explicit: You have been challenged to a duel.

As soon as you finish reading the message, Remise points at you using the tip of his body and makes another grand gesture before planting himself into the ground.

You take a quick look over your team, and the answer is obvious. Armo has proven himself plenty of times but his track record against steel types is spotty at best and Monsoon hardly fairs any better judging by what you learned from his battle with Bronzor. That just leaves Sephira who is a very good choice considering both how advantageous her typing will be for this battle. The only problem is getting her work with you.

Shrugging your shoulders, you decide to take your chances and turn to Sephira who is still lightly antagonizing Armo and to a lesser extent, Monsoon.

“I don’t think you’ll be getting a battle out of either of these guys.” You say to the aggressive feline. “I’m sure Remise is more than happy to fight you though.”

Sephira looks over at the planted sword and shorts out another wisp of smoke, this time in the direction of Armo before stalking over to Remise. Her attitude is as cocky as ever and she stands against the spectral blade without a care in the world. Upon her arrival, Remise accepts your choice of representative and rises from the ground before swinging at the air and getting into what could be consider a fighting stance for an animated object.

“Alright Sephira, kick things off with Fire Spin!” You order as Remise waits for his opponent.

Sephira refuses to even glance at you and instead surrounds herself with a red aura, causing her flaming hair to burn brightly. She then lets out a challenging roar towards Remise. Remise readily accommodates her and takes to the sky before flying at her with an absurd amount of speed that he hadn’t used against you in the labyrinth.

“It must be using Aerial Ace.” You mutter as the blade cuts into Sephira.

The attack seems to have gotten to Sephira who’s cocky demeanor morphs into anger as she picks herself up. She gives her stoic opponent a much more fearsome growl and flames become visible behind her jaws.

Undeterred, Remise refuses to relent and comes at her once again as steady and precise as ever. This time around, Sephira wastes no time and launches a burst of embers at Remise long before it can strike once again, and with no other options, the haunted sword flies straight into the path of the powered up attack. To your surprise, the ghostly sword emerges from the flames, still determined to land another hit on his foe. Before he can hit his target however, his strength fails him and he collapses beside the victorious feline, having been burnt to a crisp. Unsatisfied with having partaken in such a short battle, Sephira begins to toy around with her fallen adversary.

“Wonderful.” You groan as you take out Remise’s ball and recall him as Sephira continues to bat around the poor sword.

The fire cub looks disappointed by the loss of her new toy and gives you a look of irritation. She may not be trying to attack you, but she isn’t making things easy either.

“You know this isn’t going to work if we can’t do this as partners right?” You say, trying to keep you tone as diplomatic as possible. “I know you don’t like me or the others, but don’t you think I deserve some respect after all we’ve been through?”

Sephira simply yawns in response and looks back at Armo and Monsoon as the pair work on making an improvised pond together, completely oblivious to what has just taken place.

Thinking back to your experiences with your first few Pokémon, you realize that each had some sort of flaw holding them back, be it general apathy or the fear of fighting. You understand that these matters haven’t been truly resolved but you understand that there needs to be something more between you and your Pokémon. Armo is certainly the runner up when it comes to the title of “best friend” and he’s somewhat like a roommate as well. Monsoon on the other hand has something of a student-mentor relationship with you since you bolstered his confidence and indirectly taught him how to fly. Maybe what you need with Sephira is a connection completely unrelated to just ordering her to shoot flames at other Pokémon.

“Here goes nothing.” You say, inching towards Sephira as she slowly creeps towards the makeshift pond.

As you get closer to Sephira, her ears twitch at the sound of trampled grass but by the time she turns around, you already have her trapped in your clutches. At first, she bristles under you touch and the temperature of her fur spikes to sweltering levels, but after a few seconds of stroking her head, the cub practically melts in your arms. As you begin scratching behind her ears, her flaming hair begins to die down ever so slightly, and she lazily stretches out while purring. You spend the next few minutes stroking Sephira like some sort of movie villain as the relaxed feline occasionally turns over in order to maximize her comfort.

Eventually, your nervous system gives your brain a well-needed kick and you remove your stinging hands from her back in order to blow on them profusely. Sephira seems fairly disappointed at how quickly her massage ended, but her attention is now on you and not whatever unspeakable acts she was planning to commit against your two remaining Pokémon. She decides to keep things going one way or another and drapes herself across your knees.

“If only people were this easy to win over.” You muse to yourself as you tentatively scratch Sephira’s back once more.

In order to find specific types of Pokémon, you’ll need to search in places that you would naturally find them. For example, going to places like power plants will increase the chances of finding Steel and Electric types. If you’re in a generic landscape like a field or a forest, you’ have the potential to run into all kinds of Pokémon that happen to live there. In the case of flying types, you can try searching in trees to bolster your chances.

>>4203181
Since I’ve already given up this information in the past, I will remind everyone that the Gyms closest to you are Poison and Flying type. In the sake of fairness, I will inform you that while leveraging type advantages is doable, you shouldn’t try to rely on one type or move to get through a Gym.

As for in-game time, if you were to travel while taking as few breaks as possible, it should take about three days to get from Cycad to Nucite.

Monsoon looks to be enjoying himself as he casually floats in the muddy water, it’s a fairly serene sight all things considered. Armo, in typical fashion has dug himself a small burrow next the pond and is also taking a nap. You would feel pretty guilty for interrupting such a peaceful moment, but the idea of adding another member to your relatively large team keeps gnawing away at you.

Placing Sephira down by the pond, you approach Monsoon and wave him over to you. “I’m going to look for another member for our team. Do you want to come with me?”

Monsoon looks at Sephira’s sleeping form with apprehension but his expression shifts after gazing upon Armo, who is loudly snoring under a pile of grass. Eventually, Monsoon relents and flutters out of the pond before landing next to you.

“That’s the spirit! I’m sure we’ll find something good out here, and if we’re lucky, they might even be friendly this time around.” You then wave at him again as you leave the other two to nap. “Lets get going before it gets too dark.”

For the next ten minutes, you and the jumpy duckling search the surrounding area for any particularly interesting Pokémon. At one point, you could’ve almost sworn that you saw a Pikachu and an Eevee hanging out in behind a tree but your attempt to investigate is impeded by an unidentifiable object which trips you over and sends you sprawling into the dirt. As you get up, you look down to see a lone Ralts sitting on the ground rubbing its head from the unintentional kick you had given it. Sensing an opportunity to impress you without putting himself in any real danger, Monsoon puffs out his tiny chest and approaches Ralts as if he was about to engage in a boxing match of some sort.

Before Monsoon can advance any further, you step in the way and crouch down to his level. “Let’s not be so quick to jump into a fight, we just bumped into each other, after all.” You then pivot toward Ralts and extend your finger towards it. “I’m sorry about all of this, Monsoon doesn’t usually act this tough.”

Ralts looks between you and Monsoon hesitantly before accepting your finger and allowing you to help it up. The horns on its head glow faintly as you do so.

“Last time I checked, most Ralts stay near cities and towns. Are you traveling out here all alone?”

Ralts doesn’t respond but remains in front of you as it continues to observe the both of you.

“I don’t know where you’re going, but you should probably find a safe place to stay for the night. I’m sure the Murkrows will be coming out any minute now.”

At the mention of the dark and often malicious birds, Monsoon begins to look over his shoulder every so often as you continue speaking with Ralts. In an attempt to distract him from his paranoia, you gently push Monsoon towards Ralts and ask him to speak with it for you. After sitting in on a bit of unintelligible chatter between the two Pokémon, Ralts walks up to you and grabs onto your pants in an attempt to hitch a ride.

“You’ll probably be a bit more comfortable up here,” you explian to the green haired humanoid as you put it on your shoulder. “Once we get back to the others, I can get you to a safer place.”

Ralts nods in agreement and is soon joined by Monsoon who uses your other shoulder as a perch. With the two Pokémon secure, you take a look behind the tree you wanted to check out from earlier but you find nothing there but a few half eaten berries. You’re tempted to look for them, but like Monsoon, you aren’t exactly thrilled at the idea of running into a flock of Murkrow at night and decide to turn back around. Once you get back to your spot on the hill you are released to find that nothing has happened while you were gone, and you silently return everyone back to their respective balls until only you and Ralts remain.

With Ralts on your shoulder and your briefcase in hand, you make your way down the hill and back into town. While the streets are usually empty in Cycad Town, tonight, many people are out partying at the two biggest, and only, clubs in town. The flashing lights are obnoxious , the music is loud, and the people a far worse. Yes—it is another typical Friday night in Cycad Town.

‘I can’t believe it’s already Friday.’ You wonder in amazement as you do your best to dodge around the groups of people who have overtaken the sidewalks as well as the streets. ‘Whatever is going on in that Labyrinth is definitely not natural if three whole days of my life were taken from me just like that.’ You do your best to push these thoughts out of your mind as a rather large man stumbles into your path and nearly bowls you over. ‘I’m just glad this whole thing is finally over.’

As you continue to walk, Ralts’ horns maintain their glow as they begin automatically picking up on the emotional states of everyone you pass by. Judging by how tightly Ralts begins holding onto you, you can imagine that most of the people who are out tonight aren’t as happy or well adjusted as their loose and extroverted behavior may suggest. Given Ralts’ adverse reaction to the various crowds you come across, you start to feel as if maybe you aren’t the only one having such a hard time in this town.

Your angst ridden reflections on the human condition and the state of modern society are cut short however when Ralts’ body suddenly goes cold and it begins to shudder, making the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Before you can think to check on Ralts, the psychic fairy covers your ears without warning and sticks it’s appendages as far into your ears as possible. Seconds later, everyone in the general area begin to cover their ears as well and tear up as they sink to the ground. Soon, the street is filed with people sobbing uncontrollably, lashing out at their surroundings in a blind rage, or simply becoming deathly quiet with a faraway look in their eyes. The scene looks like something out of a horror movie and you heart rate skyrockets, which somehow seems to make things worse. Not wanting to stick around for whatever tragedy that is about to strike, you pick up the pace and break into a sprint towards the Pokémon Center, weaving around parked cars, lampposts, and pedestrians alike with escaping being the only thing on your mind.

Either those were some terrible chargers or it’s finally time to replace this thing and that comes with a laundry list of issues. I’m going to sleep now and hopefully my phone won’t be at 0% when I wake up. If I don’t post at all tomorrow before 17:00 EST, just assume that I won’t be back until late Sunday at the earliest.
>>
Hello everyone, I’ve got my laptop up and running again but the phone situation is still a work in progress. I don’t have much time until I go dark once more but I’ll be running for the rest of tonight and most of tomorrow. Hopefully, I can have this thread wrapped up and archived by Monday. Due to my week long absence, and the thread’s rapidly diminishing self life, I’ll treat thread #3 as a transitional chapter and have the action start up in the next one. Thanks in advance to anyone who is still around.

>Hide in the Pokémon Center’s bathrooms

Your heart threatens to burst out of your chest as you run through the streets populated by the agitated and distressed pedestrians. There have been a few times in your life when you’ve felt as terrified as you are now, most of them relating to the events of the past two weeks. However, this fear goes far beyond what you felt while combating the trio of Onix or falling through the void, it’s almost as if fear itself has taken over your entire being and discarded all else. This in turn, impacts Ralts and worsens the situation, causing your terror to rise by the minute. All you can think to do is run and hide and eventually, you spot the familiar red rooftop of the Pokémon Center in the distance.

Upon seeing the Pokémon Center, you reach speeds that you hadn’t thought were possible and end up approaching the building so quickly that you almost run straight into the automatic doors. Not missing a beat, you make a sharp turn and in the foyer and head down the hallway towards the bathrooms. Once you enter the bathroom, you slam the thick wooden door shut and lock it, closing off the room from the rest of building. Backing away from the door, it then dawns on you that the fairy on your shoulder has been emitting an odd sort of cry which you hardly noticed due to Ralts plugging your ears and the crowd’s explosive reactions to its cries. You understand that its been affecting your subconscious however, even if you weren’t paying much attention to it and that getting Ralts to calm down should be your top priority now that you’re safe.

>Try to soothe Ralts on your own

After taking a few deep breaths to calm yourself, you peel Ralts off of your back and hold it in front of you.

“I’m not taking any shortcuts with this one.” You think to yourself as you try to block out the shrill call. “I may not be the best at comforting others and I don’t even know what made Ralts so scared, but I have to make an effort.”

Instead of trying to sort things out in a more conventional way, you instead decide to play off of Ralts’s ability to read emotions. You take a few moments to collect your thoughts and then focus on the more positive aspects of your life. Despite everything, you realize that the hand your were dealt wasn’t exceptionally bad and while things could be better, your best days aren’t behind you. As you reflect on your newfound resolve, the creation of your team, and the support you’ve gotten along the way, you begin to feel hope that you haven’t felt since you were very young. These feelings of optimism and peace quickly spreads to Ralts, who’s temperature steadily begins to rise as it starts to calm down. Eventually, Ralts becomes as quiet as before and any and all fear washes away from the both of you.

“Everything’s fine Ralts, you’re safe with me.” You say with a smile, reinforcing the exchange that just took place. “Now let’s get the others healed up and go home.” Ralts nods in agreement and you open the bathroom door to take a quick peek outside before leaving with your new companion.

The trip back to the front desk is awkward to say the least as there were a few individuals in the Center who witnessed you running to the bathroom at full speeds. You attempt to ignore the odd stares they give you as you give your team to the receptionist and take a seat along with everyone else. Thankfully, no one approaches you about the incident and after making it through the standard waiting period, you collect your Pokéballs and leave the Center with Ralts still hitching a ride on your shoulder. After a bit of walking, you find yourself back at home once again at an outrageous hour. You unlock the door and flop onto the living room couch, too tired to make it to your bedroom after yet another exhausting day.

“I’m going to fall apart one of these days.” You mutter to yourself as you begin to doze off.

You wake up to the sound of something sizzling on the stove as well as the dramatic music playing on the morning news. As you rub your eyes and attempt to shift yourself into a more comfortable position, you turn to see Armo sitting next to you on the arm of the couch and nibbling on some Kalos toast.

“I guess she did go shopping after all,” you say with a yawn as you drape your arms behind you. “I probably could’ve met up with her if I hadn’t run into…” A quick look around the room tells you that your lightweight rider isn’t with you. “Armo? Where’s Ralts?” You ask with a bit of concern.

Armo simply shrugs in response and motions towards the kitchen halfheartedly as he continues to gaze into the TV and eat his breakfast.

Shaking your head at your lazy starter, you peel yourself off of the couch and shamble towards the kitchen and see both your mother and Ralts sitting at the kitchen table. They both look happy to see you but Ralts looks especially excited.

“Look who’s finally up,” begins your mother with a small smile. “If I didn’t know any better, I would assume you worked as many hours as I do.”

“There’s no rest for the best Mom, but things have been pretty rough over the last few days.”

“Well I’m sure even the best Trainers take a day off every now and then.”

“I wish I could, but I’ll need to get going before Monday.” You explain as you take a seat. “I should be back by next week but I can’t make any promises.”

“Where are you planning on going this week? You might have a few Pokémon of your own now, but you still need a license before you can start doing this professionally. I’d hate for you to go through all of this trouble only to be told that you are unable to take on the Gym Challenge.”

“I can’t believe I forgot to come up with an explanation for this week.” You think, kicking yourself. “Lying to Aaron might have been easy, but I can’t tell Mom the same story or she’ll see right through it. I should’ve spent more time talking things through with Nathan.”

Internally, your scrambling to find a answer that will cause as little suspicion as possible but on the outside, you attempt to act natural and look as if you’re about to give a rather complicated answer in order to buy yourself some time. You can tell that Ralts can easily sense your shift in emotions but it seems more confused by your reaction rather than concerned.

Hey you're back! Thought you might end up like the QM from Poké-Alloy.
>>
>>4220270
Don't worry about that, I'd only quit if the quest died or if I couldn't run anymore due to outside factors. I plan on running this for a long time if things go as smoothly as they did during the first two threads.

Good to know QM, your quest is pretty dope, would be a tragedy to lose it, but damn we need to hurry and get this errand done and start to get those badges.

>Come clean and explain your arrangement with Nathan

After a bit of internal deliberation, you decide that having this conversation now will be better for you in the long run. If you try to keep your deal a secret, you’ll have to come up with an endless amount of excuses to justify your long and mysterious disappearances.

“I got my license a few days ago Mom. I’m an official Pokémon Trainer now.”

Your mother looks somewhat shocked at your declaration, but you can already hear the gears turning in her head. “Please don’t tell me Nathan is somehow involved in this.”

“I’m afraid he is,” you’re tempted to leave it at that but your mother’s visible displeasure prompts you to continue. “I tried to avoid asking him for help, but there weren’t many options out there for me. The only way for me to get the money was to go to another town and battle where nobody knows me but even then I couldn’t get it fast enough.”

“Why are you always trying to get over Walter? You blew your chance by getting Nathan to help you the last time and now you’re doing it again! Sometimes things don’t come as quick or easy as you want but making reckless decisions like this is only going to hurt you later down the road.”

“There wouldn’t have even been a road if I tried to do things ‘the right way’! Nothing about my journey so far has been normal, and as time goes on, my situation becomes more and more desperate. I shouldn’t have to struggle for nothing while others get to skate by, it’s not fair!”

“Life isn’t fair Walter, and it’s a lot harder on those who try to make it fair by cheating the system.” Your mother refuses to give an inch.

“Things are already hard, Mom and the longer I stay here the worse things are going to get. Just sitting here now and talking to you about this is risky!” As the argument continues, Ralts begins to shrink in its seat.

“What are you talking about?” Your mom asks, clearly confused by your assertion. “It wouldn’t have killed you to just be patient instead of getting your license from a ‘retired’ criminal.”

“If I told what was going on, they’d probably come after you too! You have no idea what’s going on and this isn’t just about being a Pokémon Trainer anymore! Besides, you haven’t made the best choices either and if you did, I wouldn’t be in this mess. I’m the only one I can count on now, and that means I’m the only one who can do make this right. The League isn’t going to find out and if they do, I’ll find another way just like I’ve been doing all my life!” With that said, you scoop Ralts off the table and leave the room.

As soon as you enter the living room, you turn off the TV and grab your briefcase as well as the box that you left under the couch before walking to the door with a now alert Armo running after you.

I'm planning on streamlining some aspects of the story in order to make up for lost time. If nothing else, my unwanted week off gave me some time to think things over.

>>Begin your journey
First of all, calm yourself, you're getting the ralts worked up, second ask the ralts if it wanna come with us then proceed to finally go and do Nathan request so we're done with our checklist and can properly start hoarding badges.
>>
>>4220343
Just making sure, the box has our license and pokedex in it right?
>>
>>4220352
Well, OP I got a idea to streamline things. Let's say our destination takes 3 days, you could make us roll 3 dices representing those days, depending of the rolls day 1 would be a battle, day 2 we find a pokémon and day 3 we have a encounter, then we could again for the results like: day 1 battle was a bust, day 2 pokémon run away and day 3 we found one of the trainers we met earlier. Just a suggestion for speed things up.
>>
>>4220343
>Begin your journey
>>
>>4220363
You still have the Pokédex on your person since you used it yesterday. The license and the instruction books are in the box. I should've also mentioned this before, but you're wearing the new shoes as well.
>>
>>4220371
I had something like that planned but the system focused more on battles than finding wild Pokémon and other encounters since I didn't consider them given the fact that you almost have a full and balanced team. I'll make sure to implant your suggestions into the system while still attempting to keep it as simple as possible.

>Begin your journey

Without a second thought, you open the door and leave the apartment for the last time in what looks to be a long while. You’re mind is now set on two things, one of which is getting out of here and finally beginning your journey. Your situational awareness isn’t completely overridden by your stubborn attitude however, and as you make your way to Cycad’s outskirts, you address Ralts who has been silent throughout the entire walk.

“I’m sorry about what happened back there. I know you feel overwhelmed when things get like that.”

Ralts doesn’t say anything but clings tighter to you as you suddenly come to a halt.

“I should’ve been more clear when I asked earlier, but do you still want to travel with me? It’s been a wild couple of days lately, but maybe you can help keep me in check when I start going off the rails. I’m sure the others will like having you around too. Right, Armo?”

Your armored companion looks up at Ralts and with a bit of uncertainty gives a thumbs up in response.

Ralts doesn’t seem too convinced by Armo’s shaky seal of approval but after a bit of consideration, nods its head in agreement anyway.

“Thanks Ralts, you won’t regret this.” You say as you take your last available Pokéball and gently tap your green haired passenger on the head with it.

Unlike your previous companions, Ralts hardly struggles as it gets acclimated to its new surroundings and within seconds, the ball announces the successful capture with a small click.

After the capture is completed, you let Ralts out of his ball and place it into the briefcase for safekeeping. You then take out the Pokédex in order to scan your new companion. The information revealed is as follows:

Ralts Lv. 5
Moves: Growl, Disarming Voice, Double Team
Ability: Trace
Nature: Lonely

After skimming through the information provided, you place Ralts back on his perch. “I think I’ll name you, Asher. What do you think?”

Asher nods in agreement once again as his horns begin glowing.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” You say before addressing both Asher and Armo. “Now that everything’s settled, we should hit the road. We should make some good progress for today is we keep a good pace.

Armo emits a noise similar to a sigh, most likely missing the ability to ride along in your backpack. He then gets out of the small hole he dug for himself before joining you and Asher as you begin your trek once more. After a bit of walking you find yourself on the edge of Cycad’s outskirts and staring at the tiny blur that once was your home. It’s been a long road but after all these years, you’re finally ready to leave it all behind and begin a on a new path with its own twists, challenges, and rewards.

New Mechanic: Abridged Journey

When traveling through Routes, Towns, and Cities, you will occasionally be given the option to simulate your travels after choosing a destination.

Step 1: Experience Order

Choose three Pokémon as well as an alternate who you will use for battles during this trip and roll 4d100, with one die representing the performance of the Pokémon in each slot. To keep things simple and organized, all rolls done for an Abridged Journey will be averaged.

Example:

1st: Armo

[1-30] _____ gets KO’d in their first battle and doesn’t gain much experience. The alternate replaces him/her

[31-84] _____ handles him/herself decently in battle and grows by one Level

[85-100] _____ handles him/herself well in battle and grows by three Levels

2nd: Monsoon

[1-30] _____ gets KO’d in their first battle and doesn’t gain much experience. The alternate replaces him/her

[31-84] _____ handles him/herself decently in battle and grows by one Level

[85-100] _____ handles him/herself well in battle and grows by two Levels

3rd: Sephira

[1-30] _____ gets KO’d in their first battle and doesn’t gain much experience. The alternate replaces him/her

[31-84] _____ handles him/herself decently in battle and gains some experience

[85-100] _____ handles him/herself well in battle and grows by one Level

Alternate: Remise

[1-30] _____ gets KO’d in their first battle and doesn’t gain much experience.

[31-84] _____ handles him/herself decently in battle and gains some experience

[85-100] _____ handles him/herself well in battle and grows by one Level

With the stage set, I can safely bring thread #3 to a close. Obviously things didn’t go as planned, but things are looking up as far as my technical difficulties are concerned. In the short-term, I’ll archive this thread on sup/tg/ sometime tomorrow and continue to work on fixing the issue. I can’t make any definitive promises for when thread #4 will be out this time around, but I hope to be able to run again with consistency within the next two weeks. In the meantime, please send me any comments, criticisms, questions, and suggestions you may have relating to the narrative or the meta. I may not be able to respond to all of them in time given the circumstances, but I will read them. As usual, I’d like to give a thank you to everyone in the audience for their support.
