MC Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/XGUgpV79

Cover-art kindly provided by our noble artiste, Draw-anon, who generously took time off repainting the Sistine Chapel for us. Look upon our prettyboy protagonist. Look upon his devilish smile and despair.

In last thread’s episode of Baking Quest, we explored how many nat1s and 100s could be rolled in a single thread, and ended up nearly blowing up Trafalgar Lawless’ subpirate. Speaking of subpirates, our hero Commander Flashman also made a load of subpirate-shaped cookies, because obviously the first thing you do aboard an enemy vessel is start baking. And then activate Armament Haki in one of said enemies, because you’re just that shit at controlling your new Logia power. Also, Zoro is now officially Zolo due to your report on Skypiea. I honestly don’t know what’s going on any more. Please send help. Please. Please.

We now return you to your scheduled idiocy.
>>
>be LAWLESS

Your name is Trafalgar D. Water Law, Captain of the Heart Pirates of the Polar Tang. Son of to a sort-of-murdered couple. Brother to an also-sort-of-murdered sister. Sort-of-son to a definitely-murdered sort-of-father. And you will have your vengeance, as soon as it can be reasonably achieved.

You’re a surgeon, you’re not dumb enough to think rush jobs go well.

More importantly, right now you’ve landed yourself in one of the most absolutely stupid situations of the last couple of years.

On the one hand, you’ve got a good shot at acquiring a lot of veeeeery interesting information that you’re unlikely to get your hands on, otherwise - and all you have to do is fix up a Firefist Ace, ex-Whitebeard Commander and new -Shichibukai. Who injured him and how? Why is Vice-Admiral Garp so desperate to have him secretly healed that he’s relying on a pirate? You don’t know, and honestly, you don’t care, beyond having it not bite you in the ass.

On the OTHER hand, it’s already biting you in the ass. The Marine ship got sunk somehow? Fine. Not a big deal, and just leaves them more dependant on you, even if they have to stay aboard the Tang. Not a huge deal. An extra... guest? Suspicious, definitely needs an eye kept on him, but tolerable considering the rewards.

The Commander is question being an annoying dumbass who’s likely acquired his rank through either a family member or, considering he’s pretty enough, fucking someone important? You can deal with that. He’ll be here for a couple of days, and then gone. Aggravating, but you’ve got enough self-control to not snap and murder him. At least the two infantry seem to be relatively normal.

And then he’s apparently eaten some kind of new Devil Fruit, which he’s too much of an idiot to have got under control.

(1/2)
>>
All right, that’s better than your first assumption when oyou charged in, post-surgery, at the sound of Barra’s screams; at least it’s sheer stupidity rather than an actual attack, but it’s still left you with an unconscious (and semi-fried) crewmember, the common area charred (good thing you keep your books in your own quarters), and the fact that Vice-Admiral Garp somehow decided not to mention the officer he was sending is a Devil Fruit user. If it’s that new, you suppose he COULD not know about it. Maybe. The kid seems like the kind of moron who’d somehow neglect to mention that before being sent on this mission, considering he can’t even control it.

The real problem is that grin from earlier, the one that made your senses blare in warning, and that blond hair...

But that’s ridiculous. If Donquixote Doflamingo had a son, he’d sure as hell not be a Marine. That would be ridiculous. Right?

You stand in the middle of an electricity-scarred room, with a growing headache.

Taking a moment to mourn the brain cells you’ve lost through this blatant stupidity, you check the books.

(60)

Amazingly, the books aren’t totally destroyed. Well, some are totally unreadable, burned or charred, but they’re mostly the ones closer to where Mister Flashman was standing/falling/panicking. More than half the books seem to be just fine.

It’s not a great result, but... it could be worse.

More importantly is your crew. Barra seems to be fine, or you’d have rushed straight to him, though you check his pulse and breathing, and peel his eyelids back just in case. All good, thankfully.

Oh, and then you check the idiot Marine, after reattaching his arms. Unfortunately, he’s fine too. Hopefully he’ll have a blinding headache when he wakes.

Ignoring the porn (yeah, it’s Barra’s badly-hidden stash he thinks no-one knows about) lying around, you sling the two idiots over your shoulders and carry them into the hall.

“Uh,” says Penguin, lingering outside, and now eyeing your unfortunate burdens.

“Tell the Marines their Commander is an idiot, and now in the medical bay. He’ll be fine,” You brusquely order him, because you’re not in the mood for chatty. You’d rather ‘accidentally’ have the Tang surface and toss Mister Flashman out to be lost somewhere in the ocean.

Calm, Law. Cool, calm, collected.

“Right, right,” Penguin mumbles, around a mouthful of - is that a cookie? “You have fun with that. Try not to kill him.”

“No promises,” you mutter, stomping towards the medical bay with fantasies of removing the Commander’s vocal cords. And brain. If he has one.

After having laid the two morons out in the medically bay, you pop a painkiller for your head and try to figure out whether you should let them sleep it off.

Yeah, right.

You’ll probably have the other Marines in here soon anyway, demanding an explanation, so you might as well get the story first. Knowing Barra and having met Mister Flashman for longer than five seconds, you suspect both of them are at fault, but if you can stop this from becoming a diplomatic clusterfuck, that’d be great.

A few more tests on Barra makes you decide to leave him be for the moment. Getting electrocuted isn't exactly safe, and honestly, you're nonaureyou want to deal with both of them at the same time anyway.

You DO need to wake Mister Flashman up in case his men come, though, and from the looks of things, he shouldn't be suffered anything worse than a severe headache. Maybe a minor concussion. Considering how badlynhis brain functions anyway, it's not really a big deal.

A speedy injection, and you step back to a decent range in case he wakes up flailing or zapping, ready to make a Room or draw your sword, as needed.

He twitches, groaning the long, agonized groan of a man who really shouldn't be awake yet. Good.

He opens bleary eyes, wincing and blinking at the lights, before managing to move his head enough to look at you properly.

At least he SEEMS ashamed. "Um," the Marine mumbles, before wincing again at his own volume. "Well. I figured... if I didn't attempt to use it, it wouldn't actually... do anything?"

Your eyes narrow at this blatant stupidity. "And you didn't even bother to let me know you had an untrained Devil Fruit. Nor did Mister Garp, as a matter of fact. Exactly how long have you had it?"

You feel a little better at how guilty he looks. "A few days..."

An' then if it goes on for too long..." He makes a small, awkward motion that might be supposed to be a volt of electricity.

You roll your eyes and huff, hands relaxing now you can see he's probably not going to lose control again. Yet. A Static Paramecia is... not the weakest one you've ever heard of, and any Devil Fruit can be dangerous - as Barra certainly knows - but it's nothing you can't handle.

He's still a moron who skipped out on proper training, though.

Stepping forward, you eye the Marine carefully. No injuries you can see (beyond the one you inflicted), so if he got in a fight with Barra, at least he can't complain too much. He'll be immune to his own Devil Fruit, so that shouldn't be a concern either.

It's still tempting to remove a limb or four, but you're self-aware enough to admit that would be entirely for your own satisfaction rather than self-protection.

"You may not have noticed," you bluntly state, "but also in a less-than-perfect condition is one of my men. The one you electrocuted. I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist on an explanation for that one, Mister Flashman, as I'm not in the habit of letting Marines attack my men. It tends to offend me." The Marine shuffles a little on the medical cot, although your smile doesn't get much more of a response. "I was searching the bookcase for something to read," he begins, "moved a book and found his porn-stash, he panicked and tackled me, my static went off aaaaad then you found us."

..... "That's it?"

He nods jerkily, looking awkward. "Yeah. Just... I was surprised."

"You electrocuted half the room because- You stop, reaching up to run your forehead instead, taking a deep breath of filtered air. You're fairly certain he isn't lying, but it'll be easy to the k when Barra wakes up, anyway. "Mister Flashman, I understand and accept that my crewman shouldn't have... accosted you. But unless you can promise me you sent going to lose control again, I'm going to have to either confine you to the assigned cabin, or have you wear seast-"

The footsteps you've been hearing stop outside the door, which attractsnyour gaze as it's shoved open.

The extra not-a-Marine, likely with his rat somewhere. Delightful.

"Oh, he's not dead," Mister Ratcatcher says breezily, with a quick look over at Mister Flashman, who shoots him a pair of pathetic puppy-eyes.

"We were just discussing options to make sure it stays that way," you hint, ever-so-nicely.

The non-Marine smiles at you, syrup-sweet, and you carefully refrain from drawing a weapon. He's absolutely overloaded with swords himself, in much the same way the Commander is laden with a variety of weaponry. "Is his staying alive going to be a concern?"

"If he ends up hurting more of my crew, yes." You lazily motion your head towards Barra, still laid out. "Considering he was hurling sparks around to the point of setting his own coat on fire..."

Mister Flashman's eyes widen as he quickly jerks his attention over his coat, before finally catching sight of the massive scorch marks on one shoulder. They hadn't been too hard to put out, luckily. "Oops?"

"Yeah... sounds like him..." the Ratcatcher mutters, with a despondent edge to his voice. At least the idiot doesn't just misbehave here, from the sound of it. "Okay, fine, I won't let him out of sight while we're here. How's your, uh, injured guy?"

"Electrocuted. But alive." It goes without saying that if he weren't, the Marines would be down a Commander, accident or not.

"In exchange for a few answers, I could perhaps forget about this unfortunate incident..."

The idiot opens his mouth, but Mister Ratcatcher - what WAS his name, anyway? - jumps in first. You suspect his official title is 'babysitter'. He at least realizes that you could quite easily cause a host of problems by going up the Marine rank ladder and mentioning this little deal with the Vice-Admiral. "Ask away! Can't promise we'll have the answers, though."

You nod. "Lets start with something simple, to assuage my curiosity, Mister... Ex-Marine." It'll do. "Exactly how this man attain the rank of Commander?"

The idiot twitches, slumping. "Hey... that's kind of rude!"

"It's a number of things," Mister Ratcatcher says, so smoothly that he's obviously lying. "You see, Harry here is actually the son of Admiral Kizaru and Whitey Bay -"

"What," says the idiot.

"- which got him graduating from the Marine Academy despite never actually attending. To be honest, I don't think he knows how to read."

"What," says the idiot.

"He was assigned under Garp, who he drunkenly challenged to an arm-wrestling competition, and somehow ended up winning because he was so drunk he forgot his arm was capable of movement."

"Whaaaaat...?" says the idiot.

"Because of that, he was promoted to Commander, and sent on this mission because Cinders is his secret lover."

"... Isn't Whitey Bay, like, in her twenties..." the idiot wonders, apprently ignoring all the stupidity in favor of possibly the least dumbass part of it.

"To be fair, you're mentally about five," Mister Ratcatcher clarifies, actually sounding amused rather than cruel, despite his words. The idiot flips him off.

Right. A nonsense answer, where a simple truth would do. So either it's something highly classified - perhaps he found something embarrassing about a higher-up, and they needed to keep his mouth shut - or he really IS related to someone important.

Like, say, a Shichibukai.

You feel your stomach roil.

"What a thorough answer." You speak coolly, ignoring the older man's innocent smile. "Perhaps one you might willing to answer a little more... accurately, then. Exactly why did Firefist become a Shichibukai, when to be best of my knowledge, the Whitebeard pirates are... rather devoted to their belief in family?"

The pair of them eye each other.

True, though you're not actually sure if it's supposed to be a secret or not. Luffy happily admitted it in Skypiea, but he thought he was telling a fellow pirate. Plus... it's Luffy.

>93, shame

"We... don't really know," the idiot admits, practically folding in on himself. "I mean, that's way above my paygrade, and it's not like I need to know that stuff to play escort... I guess ask him or Garp, if you really wanna know?"

Unsurprising, really. Frustrating, but who would trust him with potentially dangerous information? All the same, it's annoying how little information you're getting, but... maybe you can at least put one ridiculous, niggling suspicion to rest. "Fine," you say shortly, your mind ticking back to That Grin, the one you last saw on- "Last question... forgetting that Kizaru crap, who are your parents, Mister Flashman?"

>(Clear things up or drag him down the wrong trail? Your choice!)

I'll be hanging around a little longer but likely no more updates tonight, sorry. Thanks for playing, we'll be back to Flashy PoV tomorrow unless you want to be Oniisan for a while longer.

>oniisan is the smart one of the family, you

The idiot shrugs, followed by a slight wince as he carefully pushes himself further upright. Well, it's not as if a head injury will do him any real damage. "I honestly don't know, I grew up in an orphange," he explains, a little too cheerfully. That... fails to sway your concerns one way or the other, but he goes on. "From my dad's engraved compass I know was a Marine and had a name starting with R, but that's it."

A Marine, that definitely leaves.out Doflamingo, assuming he's correct and not lying, and the R initial-

Wait.

Your heart thuds, loud and almost painful, for a few beats before you force it to calm, skin prickling. Marine. Initial R. Blond hair, although that could be from the mother. That grin, though. His burning coat. And the age is... he looks about right.

Your hand spasms, clenching, before you get it under control, eyes calm and lips straight.

It's impossible.

He looks at you with big, stupid, curious eyes. "Why are YOU asking?"

Of course Cora-san would never- not if he KNEW about the kid. But an orphanage? If he didn't know... as a man, of course he wouldn't be guaranteed to immediately know if he had a kid. It's still impossible, though. Ridiculous. The chances of... of that even...

>mfw oniisan finally snaps~

Somehow, you feel yourself lunging forwards against all expectations, hands grabbing at his collar and shoving your face up to his, staring him right in his (too green, not Cora-san's) panicked eyes.

"Show me the compass," you bluntly state. It's not a request, or even an order. Just something you're going to make inevitable.

Right up until something cool and sharp rests gently against the side of your neck, and you twitch your annoyed gaze in the direction of the interruption.

"Hands off my student, please," Mister Ratcatcher says, still smiling pleasantly.

"Uh," says the idi- the Marine, his own eyes flicking between the two of you. "I, um. The compass is kind of... personal. And Klaus, maybe we can all try not killing each other? That sounds like a good plan. I like that plan."

You eye the blade, frustration rising.

You dip a hand into your inside pocket, tugging out your silver-plated treasure, and flick it open, holding it up for Lawless to read.

'To R, with pride. S.’

He stares at it, narrow-eyed, like he's engraving every atom of it into his memory.

"S," he finally says. "You don't know who that is, Mister Flashman?"

"Noooope," you announce. "So again... why does it matter to you?"

Screw the headache.

You fling yourself off the bed and at Lawless like you were fired from a trebuchet, hands fisting in his own collar as you get aaaaaall up in his face.

"YOU KNOW WHO MY FATHER IS!!!!!"

Lawless is frozen in an oddly-balanced position of leaning back, one eye twitching and expression annoyed. "As I just said, I MIGHT know. I understand this is important to you, but please try to listen properly, Mister Flashman."

You lean even closer, eyes wide, ignoring Klaus edging nearer. "Teeeeeeell meeeeeee."

His eyes narrow. "The evidence so far is minimal. I'd need to confirm it first."

You stare at him pitifully. Why is he taller than you? Rude. "That won't take too long, right?"

He pauses, and raises a hand to start prying your own off him. "That depends. I'll need to know which orphanage you were in, and look into a few other things -"

"This seems like an awfully big coincidence," Klaus says. He sounds blatantly suspicious, but at least he isn't trying to stab anyone. Yet. "The chances of you putting a few, vague pieces of information together and knowing who that is, based on... what? An initial and some kind of physical resemblance?"

"Plus the age and his being a Marine," Lawless corrects. "As I said, not a guarantee."

You let your hands drop, managing not to bounce on your feet. "Right, buuuut, time-wise....?"

"A month."

"And then you'll know?"

"Hopefully," he answers, which is kinda vague, but he doesn't seem the type to promise things he might not be able to pull. You'll allow it.

"Okay. I guess I can wait that long." No point in getting all excited and then Lawless turning out to be completely wrong. You pull back, to Lawless' visible relief, forcing your burgeoning excitement down with a hefty dose of logic.

"Good. Can you get out of my medical bay, now?"

"Going, going," you excuse yourself, stepping backwards like a Good Boy. No pissing off the guy who might have answers for you! "You wouldn't happen to have any ideas about my mother, would you?"

"Not a single one," Lawless bluntly states.

Well. You remind the sudden disappointment plunging into your stomach that it's kind of amazing you're potentially finding anything out about either of them. "Right. Okay! Well, uh, thanks anyway-"

"We'll just about of your well-shampooed hair, now," Klaus says, grabbing your arm and tugging you towards the door. 'Lovely conversation, must do it again some time, ciao!"

"Can I at least get a painkiller?" Your puppy-eyes go unheeded as he pulls you outside. "Man, Lawless hits hard..."

"I guess I probably shouldn't get my hopes up, huh," you suggest, perhaps a little reluctantly.

Klaus turns slightly to consider you, not looking thrilled. "It would be the better option, yeah."

You nod as Klaus lets go of you, both of you still walking. The further you get before Lawless remembers you knocked out one of his men, the better. "I mean, the chances of him actually knowing about the right guy..."

"There's a lot of men out there who're the right age," Klaus says, voice even. "Including those whose names begin with R."

"But HE was the one who brought it up, so I must definitely remind him of someone, right?"

Klaus groans, though it sounds more tired than annoyed. "Look, prettyboy. I don't actually WANT to see you hurt, unless it involves me kicking your ass during a lesson, and I don't trust Doctor Death there as far as I could throw his sub. So all I'm going to say is - don't get too optimistic, and take everything he tells you with an ocean of salt. Okay?"

>poor klaus trying to stop his idiot child from getting emotionally hurt by the evil pirate

You bite your lip, before deciding that fuck it, you're going to throw it out there anyway. "Okay, but... what if he's right? I mean, this is the closest lead I got about my father in... ever. It's one of the big reason why I joined the Marines." You stare at the metal floor as you walk, your paces slowing as the words spill out in a flurry. "If I know who my father is, I might know who my mother is in the future. And even if that doesn't lead anywhere, just the fact that I know who my father is can answer a lot of questions. Like why was I in an orphanage? What happened to my father, anyway? Is he still alive?"

The pair of you come to a halt, although you're still staring down at the floor, trying not to pay too much attention to the blurry reflections.

Klaus, after a few moments of some kind of hesitation, steps closer, boots appearing in your view. "Kid." He sounds awkward, but you keep your gaze down. "The reason you were in an orphanage... I mean, we don't know your mother's reason. Maybe it was a selfish one, maybe not. But as for your father, it sounds like he never even knew you existed. It's not as if he ab- left you, or didn't want you, or any of that. It was just ignorance."

He steps closer still, coat rustling. "If... IF he's right about your father, then good. But it might not lead to your mother at all, and even if it DOES let you know about your father, you might not like what you find. Maybe he's a nice guy. Maybe he's a dick. Maybe he's married someone and... isn't interested in knowing you. Maybe he's dead. I mean, I want a happy ending here, prettyboy, but getting your hopes up too much is just... not a great idea. Assuming Doctor Death is even right about him."

After a second, Klaus' hand lifts from your shoulder to - ACK, WHY IS HE PINCHING YOUR CHEEK, OW OW OW!?!

"Awwww, look at my cute little student! Growing up and taking responsibility for his kills!"

"Geddofme! Ash-hohl!" You frantically try to yank his fingers off your cheek, but they're latched on tight as he coos at you. "Kluhs, stoppid!"

"Is this... a bad time?"

The pair of you halt, Klaus still attempting to tug your skin like you're Strawhat 'Creepy Stretching' Luffy, and turning to... some guy with 'Penguin' written across his hat. Why is he wearing a hat in a subpirate? Sure, Lawless does too, but as a Captain he has a bullshit appearance to uphold.

Klaus just eyes him. "Bad time for what?"

"Uh. Our Captain says I'm supposed to... escort you to your cabin? So you don't, quote, set another room on fire, unquote." He looks between the pair of you, and you're mildly impressed by how well he hides part of his face. If Arthur ever reappears, you'll make improvements.

"Id wuz ohnly th' wun ruhm," you mumble, although they either can't comprehend you or just ignore you.

"Right, right," Klaus says airily, letting go of your poor, abused cheek, which you promptly start rubbing. "Come on, Prettyboy, you need an early night."

"It's not even evening!"

"Once you've knocked out one guy by accident, it's time to let yourself be quietly sidelined," Klaus informs you, with a sunny smile. "Lay on... whatever your name is."

"Penguin."

"... I'm so sorry."

Seagull/Seal/Sea Lion/Sandwich 'escorts' you back to your cabin, surprisingly politely. Maybe he doesn't know what you did. Maybe he doesn't care. Maybe it's Maybell- anyway.

The point is that while your delightful minions are off somewhere, Fireplace is here - curled up asleep in one of the bunks, surprisingly, but then, it's not like you saw the guy in the medbay - and Klaus gives you another quick shoulder squeeze before tossing himself down on one of the beds and letting Rodent out to play.

He's actually kind of cute. Even if the tiny Marine scarf is a little odd.

....... Maybe you should give Mr Speedy one.

Your weapons are nice and clean, and it's not like you can really practise with them right now, nor your Devil Fruit, but you sit cross-legged on your bunk and pull out Cut-chan and Pistol-chan anyway.

You watch them.

Pistol-chan is unloaded, her ammunition and powder lost to the foul depravity of seawater, but maybe you should try and beg some off the Hearts. You made cookies! Isn't that worth a few pistol balls, damn it?

And now you want a cookie.

With a quiet sigh, ignoring Fireplace's snoring and Rodent's happy squeaking, you close your eyes and try to relax.

It's been a really weird day.

Really weird week, to be honest.

You dial up your Observatio Haki first, letting the pools of emotions come to the fore of your senses, before letting yourself become comfortable with it. Then, after a few minutes, you curiously press your expanded sense down into the two weapons you drew.

It... doesn't really do much. You feel the smoothness of metal in a way that isn't quite touch, the sharpness of Cut-chan's edges and the precise spiral inside Pistol-chan's barrel... and for a second, you almost feel like there's SOMETHING about them that you've skimmed past or ignored...

(Improved at sensing/judging metal weapons with Haki, even when hidden or sheathed/holstered!)

... and then the door crashes open, Fireplace grumbling sleepily at the noise, as Hat and Sunglasses spill in, looking cheery.

"Still training, huh?"

Sunglasses beams up at you, making a fist-pump. "We're getting better and better every day, aniki!"

"Yeah, we'll be beating you and Tashigi-aneue soon!"

"They really might," Klaus 'casually' butts in, Rodent curled up on his chest. "That's what happens when you focus on one weapon instead of a hundred..."

You scowl down at him from the upper bunk. "I have... other stuff!" Like Haki. And a Logia. And Dials, even!

"Doesn't matter, I bet we could even beat Zoro-an- Zoro, now!"

Your rival?! You have eternal dibs! "Forbidden!"

Hat grins, crossing his arms. "Can't complain if someone gets there first~"

"ULTRA-FORBIDDEN! THAT'S ILLEGAL!"

"whazzafoos," Fireplace grumbles, and you drop your volume and have a finger at your smirking lackeys.

"Rivals are for set rivals only! Rivals aren't for others to stab!"

"Hey, Yosaku, think we should try to take down Roronoa~?"

"Gee, Johnny, that sounds like it could be fun~"

You let out a gasp of pure horror. "Klaus! Rodent! Kill the mutineers!"

"Mmm....... nah."

"Squeak?"

You are surrounded by incompetence and treason. And fantastic hair. "You're all under arrest," you sulk, leaning back so you can't see Sunglasses poking his tongue out at you. "When I get down from here, all of your asses are being executed. Especially you, Rodent."

"... Squeak?"

"Don't worry, aniki! When we're promoted above you, we'll keep you around to polish our bladesUFFFF!" Interrupted by your pillow hitting him in the face, Hat scrambles to grab it and throw it back up. "You sure are violent today..."

You don't pout, because you are a manly Marine. A manly, masculine Marine who is mature and other words beginning with m. Like... moronic- no! Not that one!

"It's been a weird day," you tell them, shoving your pillow into its proper place, and putting your cute weapons away.

You eyeroll dramaaaaatically. “By the way, you guys are forbidden from learning Haki until you're like, thirty.” Catching up with you is forbidden! Forbidden! “But seriously, how are you getting on?”

“Uh... okay?l hat glances at Sunglasses, who shrugs.

“Yeah, we’re good! Made a lot of progress with Klaus and everyone while you were away, and Commodore Smoker’s doing the Logia training, so...”

“And personally it’s good too,” Hat adds. “I mean, we obviously have less freedom than when we were bounty hunters, but... also less hunger or sleeping by roadsides. So that’s great!”

“Why can’t we learn Haki, though?”

“No reason!” You ignore Klaus’ impolite snort. “Well, that’s good know. And more importantly, there’s cookies in the galley if you want any.”

“... Aniki, have you really been baking instead of training?”

You have to train a variety of weapons, but not very far. For example, training more swords wouldn’t really help, but training with a polearm/axe/a random brick/etc would, because they’re different to what you’ve used before. You don’t have to keep them either, just get to maybe +10 in them to show basic proficiency.

>>3676400
There’s also your ability to switch weapons mid-combat, which you rarely train...

Fortunately, the Seal guy is susceptible to your puppy-eyes (or maybe he's just worried you'll electrocute him as well) and doesn't try to prevent you from heading to the training room once you're done chatting.

It's time to get yourself more familiar with.... METEOR-SAMA.

Seriously, meteor hammers are weird and tricky. Swords are so much easier!

(Meteor Hammers +8! General Fitness +4!)

Unlike most of your weapons, which focus on your arms, Meteor-sama gives a massive workout to your legs. And your arms as well, of course, but the aches of your calves and thighs tell you that you really need to work on your lower body as well.

Well - you can see your skill improving with your cute cannonball-chained baby, so you'll count stronger legs as a nice bonus.

And you don't even end up flinging or kicking Meteor-sama into the walls! You're so proud!

>the brave sir lance-a-lot

With a quick glance at Seal, who's busy laying out rows of cards to play solitaire on the floor - great work ethic - you slip Meteor-sama away and bring your new heat lance out from a Dial.

You... still haven't picked a name for him, but considering what sort of weapon he is, and that you got him while you were Arthur... Sir Lance-a-lot. Yes. Perfect. Original and imaginative.

Damn, you're good.

While Seal keeps his head low as he messes with cards, you start training, switching Lance-a-lot out occasionally for other weapons, and then back again. You're getting faster at flipping between them, which is great, and you're making good improvements with the lance despite its size and weight, and your inability to use its Heat Dial on the subpirate.

Well, you COULD... but you'd rather not blow up another vessel.

For the moment, you're not sure you can dual wield Sir Lance-a-lot and another weapon - the lance is hefty and hard to be precise with - but a bit more training with him should help.

"HOLY CRAP, where did THAT come from?!"

Ah. You pause in an extravagant motion with your cute baby, as Seal apparently finally notices your massive friggin' lance.

Seal stares at you, disbelieving, then at your giant lance. "I... I'm pretty sure you didn't?"

"Oh, gee, are you okay? I've been carrying this for a while, did you really not notice it? Are you feeling well?"

"I -" He pauses, looking worried. "I think so? You really carried that?" His gaze moves to your back, where Jitte-san is strapped.

While Seal reluctantly returns to his solitaire, you decide to give Cut-chan and Ka-tan a bit of a workout. No doubt Klaus will be demanding you train tomorrow morning, and there's no way you'll want to slack off for that after so long without proper lessons.

Putting Lance-a-lot back into his Dial - not that Seal's looking - you draw two of your swords, and close your eyes as you hold them up.

You are a badass. You are a sword-wielding badass of badassery, and you are absolutely NOT going to let Hat or Sunglasses catch up to you. Because...

You are. A badass.

You move through your forms, Ka-tan and Cut-chan flowing through the air, while you watch them with your Observation rather than your eyes. You taste them cut through the warm air of the training room, feel the vibrations flowing through them as you alter your steps, your grip, the angles of your attack -

(Swordsmanship +5! Observation Haki +1, DC 55! Armament Haki +1, DC 95! General Fitness +1!)

Coming to a relaxed stop at the end of your kata, you open your eyes.

And blink.

... Cut-chan and Ka-tan are black.

As for how you're using Armament itself... that's trickier.

You're still focused on your swords, gaze intent and grip secure, but when you let your attention slide away, or relax your grip -

The black starts to fade from them, slow at first, speeding up, and then, as you try to mentally grab back on to whatever it was you were doing, it vanishes entirely, leaving you staring at two perfectly normal swords again.

Okay. That was weird. At least you've figured out how to keep the Armament going once you've already activated it.

Plus, it doesn't look like Seal noticed what you did.

Although there's no such thing as night on a subpirate, it seems they keep to regular hours anyway, which means there's only one more thing to do tonight.

Brag to Klaus about how incredibly awesome and badass you are.

You do this via bouncing up to your shared cabin, and then RAMMING THROUGH THE DOOR AND YELLING "HEY KLAUS LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!!!"

Oh, and you're waving your fist in the air. Which is now black. You're kind of glad that you managed to make that work, you only had a vague idea of remembering the odd sensation from before and shoving it into your fist.

Oh, well!

"WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK," says Klaus, frozen still except for his mouth, and twitching eyes focused on your black fist.

"..................." Klaus says. Then he slowly buries his face in his palms.

You make sure the safety is on your fingergun. Can't have it going off! "You okay? Where is everyone?"

"Eating," Klaus mumbles, voice muffled. "Prettyboy. Please tell me you covered your hand in sharpie."

"Haha, nope! Sorry!"

He somehow sinks even lower. "Whhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy..."

Closing the door behind you, you let the Haki drop from your hand, trying to memorize the sensation. "Dunno, I think I'm just a natural at all this Haki stuff. I mean, this is pretty fast, right?"

Klaus lets out what might be a muffled sob. "Yes. Yes, this is fast." He pulls his head from his hands, eyes dead. "Just... same with the Devil Fruit. Don't. Tell. Anyone."

Wandering over to his bunk, you plonk yourself down beside him, casting a quick look over to the other beds. Abs must have woken up and gone in search of food, along with Hat and Sunglasses, so he's presumably feeling well.

Pause.

You lean in closer, confused and intrigued, especially if he's gonna make Admiral that young. No wonder Klaus is in a mood if he got that kinda news, because damn. What was the youngest Admiral ever? Like... forty-something?

"... You have a son?"

Klaus...

Also pauses.

Then he swallows, eyes opening very slightly as he glances at you and then away, fingers still resting between his eyes. "Uh. Well. Uh." He swallows again, hard, almost sinking further onto the bed. "Forget I said anything."

The joke is not that he’s stupid, it’s that his self esteem is so low that the thought of someone voluntarily being that emotionally close to him is absurd!
>>
>we must go deeper

... Nah. Like when Klaus ambushed you in your cabin and got all pissy over your book, this... kind of feels like one of those things you should push him on. Maybe you're an asshole, but... you're preeetty sure he's been drinking less since that little time. And he doesn't sleep on crates any more! Progress!

So if this is one of Those Things, especially something of this magnitude, then...

Yeah. You can't let go of this. Not unless he threatens to stab you or something. Although now you have Armament, so maybe not even then!

"That's... not really something I can forget," you say, almost apologetic, as you poke at the source of his discomfort. "I mean... that's kind of a big deal."

Klaus groans again, eyes closing as he angles his body and flops back on the thin mattress, nearly kicking you. "Prettyboy, don't worry about it. It was just some... metaphorical... shit."

"... How?"

"Never mind, that's how."

You gnaw on your lip, trying not to frown at the clearly uncomfortable swordhobo. "Okay. But, uh, standard 'if you ever wanna talk about it' rules apply."

"Right, right, sure, that'll be never."

"Yeah, well," you shrug. "Offer's there."

"Mmhm."

You slump back, feeling kind of... off. You're not exactly the kind of guy who runs arou d sticking his nose into eve- yeah, okay, you're that guy. But! You like to help. And seeing people you care about hurting, and not being able to...

Meh.

You've said your piece.

"Guess I'll get ready for bed," you sigh, while Klaus waves you off like an overdramatic noblewoman with the vapors.

C'est la vie, you guess.

This is a rival-bonus, so crits don't override, so score is +9.

Walking home now, update soonish.
>>
Just a reminder that your once a day crit has refreshed.

I'm also introducing RIVAL BONUS, which I meant to do earlier but totally forgot about, so let's say you were still in bad shape from ships blowing up everywhere.

After a good night's sleep though, all training involving SWOOOOOOORDS or general techniques will now get a +1d10. While kami-e isn't specifically a sword technique, it is a general one as it doesn't focus on a non-sword weapon.

(Zolo also gets a training bonus.)

If you have a dramatic fight with Zolo that intensifies your rivalry, the bonus may increase.
>>
>>3680558
Nifty!
For future's sake, how will the bonus be increased? Will it just be a bonus on top of the bonus (i.e. 1d10+1) or will the dice get upgraded (i.e. 1d11)?
>>
>>3680558
So basically all training that Isn't non-sword weapons get a bonus. Neat! Thank you Zoro for filling us with the Incredible power of MOTIVATED TRAINING.
>>
>>3680568
It will be based on how goddamn badass your fight is. I'm not even kidding, the rival bonus is based on how hard your rivalry pushes you, so you'll probably actually get a bigger bonus if Zolo beats you than if you casually kick his ass. As such, rival bonus can actually decrease if you lose motivation to beat him.
>>
>>3680614
im guessing getting Wado would improve the rival bonus since its a constant reminder of our rivalry
>>
>>3680614
Hey wait just to be sure, Is the d10 a bonus to the training roll, or the training result should we pass?
>>
>>3680614
Well I meant like, how does our rivalry growing stronger manifest itself in game mechanic terms?
Like if we had an absolutely rad battle against Zolo and our rivalry grew, how would that reflect on the rival bonus?
Sorry if this is a bit hard to understand, I'm not the best at getting my point across at times.
>>
>>3680643
Bonus in general to making you pass. For training purposes only.

>>3680645
Let's say you meet up with Zolo and have a small battle with no real stakes, where you stab at each other a few times and then rum off to fight someone else. No change.

On the other hand, if you meet up, make dramatic speeches at each other about how much you've improved, and then have an epic clash in which Zolo finally pulls out a shiny new move and kicks your arse with it before wandering off to (insert wrong direction here), you might swear to surpass him, and the bonus might increase to +15. Or you might get a specific bonus towards learning a new sword technique of your own.
>>
>>3680697
Okay, thank you. Sorry if I seemed a bit pushy with my asking about it.
>>
>>3680632
Getting Wado (especially if you fight him with it) would increase Zolo's own rival bonus to a height wherein he could obliterate Mihawk within a week.

>>3680697
I meant +1d15, not +15.

>>3680703
It's cool, I know this is a weird thing. I just kind of want to give an incentive/reward for rivalries, because they're kind of a big deal in OP.

>85 + 20 + 9 = 114

(Kami-e increases to C.5!)

For your morning training, Klaus drags you back to the training room, though he seems... kind of off? Eh, you won't push. You're a good boy, yup, yup.

More importantly, rather than working on your swordsmanship today, he announces it's time to hammer kami-e further into your skull. Which... makes sense, you guess, because while you're good enough to use it in battle, it's not something you can do reflexively.

Plus, now Zolo knows how you do it. There's no way you can let him surpass you in it. You'd have to commit seppuku.

You make good progress, anyway, as Klaus alternates randomly between stabbing at you or throwing things at your head. By the end of an hour, you've got a better grasp on the skill and the flexibility of your body.

"Not awful," Klaus announces. "Not great either, though."

"Let's keep going!"

Klaus brightens a little at your enthusiasm - he's always a little cheerier when you properly throw yourself into your training - and...

After a few more minutes, ends up slamming a (thankfully sheathed) sword into your stomach.

After a manly scream and retching, you bend over, clutching at your stomach as you try to breathe.

"... Okay, you didn't quite dodge that one," Klaus blandly informs you, reattaching his sword to his belt. "You okay, Prettyboy?"

"Hnnnnnnnggg..." You shoot him a shaky thumbs up as you try not to puke.

The sneaky pirate scum have drawn them into a game of poker! Such vile reprehensible acts shouldn't be allowed! Why the hell weren't you invited?! Uh, anyway. Hey boss some issues i want to bring to your attention.

Kami-e Rank C 8/10 (Before the updates today. or yesterday i guess)

(Kami-e increases to C.5!)
(Kami-e increased to C.45!)

>They go up rather than down. C.1 is higher than C.2, etc.

This isn't Right. they have always gone up.

Example.

In Thread 7 We gained billiards at Rank D (First Acquired)

Then we got it to D.2 (Post number 3387025)

Then we trained more and got it to D.4 (Post Number 3387121)

As such please give me the correct number for Kami-e and avoid such clerical errors in your paperwork. you are displaying poor standards for marines everywhere

>>

If i remember correctly movie characters that have a volume, have their backstory as canon but their entire movie never happened. It's just that Shiki is ultra canon because he was mentioned multiple times before his volume.
So yes, there should be a black arm Zephyr that taught marine stuff to marines like the current Admirals ,Smoker,Hina and other mooks...but that left because he was done with WG BS after he lost his arm and his crew.
>>
>>3680757
Perfect opportunity for a dramatic sword fight is coming up at Enies lobby. (And I’m not saying flashy should throw that fight, flashy should throw that fight.)
>>
>>3683483
Honestly th part am most excited about for Enies is that it could be the moment where Flashy is forced to face all the horror of what the world government does. The papers RN could serve as the primer, but its easier to ignore something that is out of sight or not directly affecting someone you know. But Enies will shove it right into Flashys face, and it could be one hell f a character defining moment, might legit be the moment we go renegade depending on what we find
>>
>>3683480
i think the issue was that he lost his crew and arm to a pirate that then went on to be a Warlord. Just checked he also lost his family to pirates
>>
>>3683561
Yeah you're right,i mixed the reason of why he left the marine(which was him getting his arm and crew destroyed by a random pirate),with the reason he started the neo-marines(which was him becoming aware that the random pirate that attacked him was made a shichibukai by the WG).
I wonder if he could become another of Flashy dads if Sengoku calls him to become our teacher ,in exchange for some old favor....

>>
>>3683640

>read classified documents because you're curious and don't think Doctor Oniisan wants to set up a farm

You know what you're gonna do now you've hammered the POWER OF PAPERWORK into your minions' skulls?

You're gonna break the law.

That's, uh, regular law. Not pirate-Law. Maybe you'll break him some other time.

As it is, you make your excuses and casually wander to your (empty) cabin, looking around furtively like a sneaky sneaker and checking with Observation, before...

Tugging open the satchel o' bribery.

Hey, you already had to open it to show Lawless. No-one'll know! And, well, it's kinda been nagging at you about the whole 'livestock' thing.

Ah, Lawless... you can't shear a sheep with a nodachi... you silly man...

Pushing away thoughts of Lawless working a farm, shovelling manure and a piece of straw sticking out of his mouth, aside, you settle down and start reading.

The files can be separated into several distinct matters.

One of the thinnest is on... Vice-Admiral Vergo? You've heard good things about the guy, but why would Lawless be interested in him in particular? There doesn't seem to be anything related to him in the file, just a general record of Vergo's work, physical abilities and the like.

Weird.

Next up is a thicker file, and possibly even weirder. Dressrosa. That's... way further up the Line. In the New World, you're pretty sure. Maybe. Is something there that Lawless is looking for? Most of the file is a boring overview of the kingdom itself - imports, exports, military strength, predicted economics; it's all preeetty stable because it has a Shichibukai as long, and not many people are dumb enough to pick a fight with Donquixote Doflamingo himself.

The next file is thinner than even Vergo's. In fact, it's barely a few pieces of paper, about some unknown person named 'Joker' who's involved in some kind of illegal trading or smuggling. It's basically a load of 'we don't know much, and don't look into this guy', which is... weird. Undercover operation, maybe?

You've learned precisely zero of use.

The next files is much thicker, and a very quick skim through it seems to be mostly columns - one with numbers, most with initials, and then another column with business names or islands. There's a code at the front for the initials, so you look at the key and...

Huh.

Okay, that column, the initials stand for 'healthy', 'damaged', 'pregnant'... is this the livestock file? Another has ages. Another is species, so those stand for -

Human?

Mermaid?

Longarm?

What?

Is this a medical thing...?

You look back at the large-number column, and... Yeah, those are selling prices. Which would make sense if these were pirates, you're not ignorant enough to have never heard about the Celestial Dragons buying criminals before, but some of these ages are...

(1/2)
>>
And surely there's far too many? You mean - there's dates for most of these, and assuming they're sale dates, you can't possibly capture THAT many pirates. Especially female ones, most pirates are men. And pregnant? And the kids...? And surely there aren't THAT many fishman or mermaid criminals, either?

The fuck...?

(Cooking +4!)

Screw this. You're going... to bake.

You head to the galley again, mind awhirl with - No. Nope. Not thinking. Just focus on... brownies? More cookies? No, cupcakes! Perfect!

"I'M HERE TO BAKE," you announce, slamming open the galley door.

"... 'k," says the cook, pausing in his stock-take.

You set about making the cutest damn cupcakes you can, with a subpirate theme like yesterday, and damn if you aren't moving like a natural. It feels like you've developed a sixth sense for knowing juuuuust what measurements to make and when to remove them from the oven. And all your weaponry training has left you wonderfully dextrous for icing the delicious bundles of heavenly goodness.

...... Maybe you should open a bakery.

Making a larger one for Barra - despite being a pirate, he prooooobably didn't deserve to be electrocuted into unconsciousness, you finally leave them out to cool, proud of your work.

Not bad for an hour!

Briefly, you consider leaving the cupcakes and heading off... but this is a pirate sub, and you don't trust someone not to scoff the lot.

Fortunately, you are a wise and generous Marine, and thus you gather several of them in a small box and wander off in search of criminal scum. And a Shichibukai, who technically isn't a criminal any more.

Anyway.

Barra is found fairly quickly, in the hastily-repaired lounge, although he shrieks and tries to jump behind a lightly-charred couch when you appear.

"Hey!"

"Y-you! Stay back!" He points a trembling finger at you from behind the furniture. "You won't static me from here, Staticman!"

"... I made you a cupcake?"

The finger pauses, and a suspicious face peeks over the couch. "... Didn't you make those cookies yesterday?"

"Yeeeeeesss?"

He pauses. "Well. Okay, then. I'll accept."

Aah, someone who appreciates your marvellous baking skills. Magnificent. You pluck his cupcake from the rest and carefully move forwards to hand it to him.

"This is an apology cupcake! Sorry for shocking you. It was an accident."

"Yeah, the Captain said," Barra mumbles, tentatively accepting the baked goodness. "Hey, this looks pretty good..."

"I don't apologize for finding your open though, you should hide it somewhere better."

"I WOULDN'T HAVE PUT IT THERE IF MY BUNKMATE DIDN'T KEEP GOING THROUGH MY SHIT!!"

You give him a beaming smile and double thumbs up as he furiously yanks the paper-case off the cupcake anyway, and bites in -

Before he suddenly freezes, eyes widening.

"Are you... okay?"

"Thish. Ish the best fing ah've ev'r ehten."

You stare down at your other cupcakes, which admittedly do look fantastic. "Huh. Good to know."

Then you escape before he can finish his own and try to mug you for the rest.

You hunt down your next prey simultaneously, thanks to one of the passing boiler-suited crew directing to the medical bay. You d have thought Fireplace's morning checkup would have finished ages ago, but maybe they just like hanging out in sterile areas for funsies? You'll never understand pirates.

Except for Doctor Cutie. You totally understand Doctor Cutie.

Mmmmmm, cuddllllyyyyy.....

Stop. Move on.

Shaking your head, you tighten your grasp on the Cupcakes of Subpiracy, and knock on the massive metal door to the medbay. Be a bit rude and distracting if you charge in on a surgery or something.

From Lawless' terse "Enter," it doesn't sound that way though, so you shove it open and waltz in, displaying your precious baked goodness to the world, i.e. two people.

"I bring cupcakes!"

Lawless stares at you from where he and Abs were looking at a glass jar of something. Abs just looks pretty casual. Apparently he's got used to you, the poor bastard. At least he perks up at the mention of cupcakes. "Really?"

"One for each of you! I figured if I just left them in the galley, they might end up eaten, sooooo..."

Lawless' face twitches slightly. "You decided to bake cupcakes for pirates. Of course, Mr Flashman. And I'm betting you didn't even have the decency to poison them, did you?"

Rude. You give him a disappointed look. And a cupcake. Fireplace promptly grabs his, barely admiring the cute subpirate on top before chowing down.

Well, Lawless rolls his eyes and gingerly takes his own, so you'll consider that a success. It's ALMOST like he doesn't consider you a threat, which is impossible, as you're very threatening. Clearly he just just really like cupcakes. Or he tried one of your cookies yesterday and wants a repeat.

>>
>hahahaha of course it wouldn't be the jobbing gland, that's incredibly stupid, hahahaha haha ha..... ha

You keep your eyes peeled on their reactions to your baked deliciousness. Abs, naturally, shovels it down quickly, especially after the first bite.

Lawless eyes it for a second, looking kind of expressionless (how dare he), before sampling a small bite, pausing, and then taking another one with slightly less annoyance.

"Not bad," he dispassionately allows, whixh you take to be an incredible compliment. He could have said 'not terrible' or 'not awful', which would still have left a lot of descriptive wiggle room, but not bad means good! Or at least average. Which is sort of good!

Abs gives you a thumbs up and some cake-muffled words that might be a compliment as well. Maybe a thank you.

Sanji would surely be proud. Not that you give a crap about a pirate's opinion (unless they're an adorable mink, of course), but still.

(97 and 74 to resist the allure of heavenly cupcakes! Sad.)

Fireplace's eyes narrow. "... I'm twenty. And it wasn't- I had something removed, okay?!"

You try to peer at the jar, which suddenly vanishes from your sight, replaced by a scalpel. When was the 'Room' thingy made? Earlier? "Aaaawwwwww..."

"Irrelevant to our agreement," Lawless states, despite your sad eyes.

"What if I make you more cupcakes?"

"I'm not going to share private medical information for cup-"

"I will!" Fireplace sure seems enthusiastic. Lawless just facepalms.

Eh, he asked permission first. If people want to shill their quests or make recommendations, I don't particularly mind as long as they're not doing it eeeevery day or being annoying about it. Especially for regulars/people who make fanart/keep me on track with stats, etc. (I'm honestly amazed Bob has been generous enough to keep track of my blatant stupidity for 25 threads now with no reward except for the earlier nat100 one, because it's an absolutely massive help to me.)

As for Akun, I've only looked at it a couple of times (mobile sucks), and I get there's a lot of hate for it, but it's none of my business. Apparently it's better for long live sessions? (And smut.) Not my thing, but no-one from Akun's ever given me a reason to throw bile or holy water at them.

Abs slides off his chair. "And the jar?"

"I'll incinerate the contents," Lawless promises, before his shoulders shudder faintly. "Completely."

Fireplace wipes at the corner of his eye, though his voice is cheery. "The evil... is finally purged..."

"Go away, Mister Firefist."

Esconcing yourself in the training room once more, Fireplace wandering off (probably to eat more cupcakes), you decide to bring out Jitte-san. And practice metal-cutting.

Together.

Okay, yeah, Jitte-san is... not exactly sharp. But therefore, isn't it even more impressive if you cut metal with a BLUNT weapon?!

You're a genius. A genius! And they said you were mad, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~

You halt your maniacal laughter, glancing furtively around, but you're thankfully lacking in pirate escort this time. Plus you're pretty sure Lawless told the crew to avoid you all. Or maybe just you.

Whatever.

"I believe in you," you tell your precious, exasperated child as you wield him at the sheet of scrap metal you'd managed to beg off Lawless for training with. Then - you charge forth, and-!

CRASH CLANG congrats, you just hit the metal across the room and into a wall. Without even denting it.

... Oh no.

Fireplace's performance problems have... transferred to you.

They make pills to fix this, right?!

Wait. That's dumb.

You hold him up, staring at him with pleading eyes. "Please... forgive me... Jitte-san..."

It's kind of weird. Sometimes it's like he doesn't want to look at you at all, and sometimes his stare is just too searching.

Well, it's not like a guy called the Surgeon of Death wouldn't be creepy!

"Yes, Mister Flashman?"

"Spar with me!"

A moment of silence, as if he's waiting for you to continue. Then, "No."

You recoil slightly. "N-? Why not?"

"I have no reason to do so, and far better things to do with my time," he answers, tone flat. "Beating a Commander won't teach me anything new."

You scowl. "Who says YOU'D win?"

"Common sense."

"I've never trusted in that!"

Lawless slowly blinks. "That... sounds about right. Regardless, Mister Flashman, while I appreciate your culinary abilities, I have no interest in you as a swordsman, and until you gain better control of your Devil Fruit, in that either. I'll be seeing you later to collect my payment, but until then, find something else to do."

"Hooooold up," you reach to grab his shoulder as he turns back to walk away, and abort at the last moment, as his face swings around again and glares at you.

Eep. Is he secretly Mihawk's son? Yellow eyes, black hair, giant sword, pirate? He's... what, early twenties? How old is Hawk-eyes?

Ahem.

"So, uh. What about a prize?"

He pauses. "What sort of prize."

"An answer! A straight one, no lie or diverting. How about it?"

Lawless turns fully, but without enthusiasm, and crosses his arms as he stares down at you. It's kind of.a vague stare this time though, like he's not really focusing on your face. He's not using Observation, is he? "Any question? That doesn't mean much to me, Mister Flashman." He smirks, cruelly. "You're not high enough rank to tell me anything interesting."

The smirk widens, as the eyes narrow. "Oh?"

"Uh-"

"Then I accept."

While you try to figure to figure out if this went horribly wrong or right, Lawless strides back past you, from a casual amble to purposeful strut, radiating smugness.

Hm.

Not great.

"Let's get this over with, Mister Flashman," he calls back, sounding awfully amused now.

Definitely not great.

Okay, this is how it'll be. The spar will take place with three sets of rolls. You can use your once a day crit on one for an auto-victory (assuming Lawless doesn't nat100 as well). People who have nat100s can spend them to re-roll the other sections if they want.

>MARINE VS CRIMINAL SCUM

You unsheathe Cut-chan and Ka-tan as soon as you're facing Captain Doctor Traffic Lawless Death M.D., while he casually shifts the massive nodachi down from his shoulder.

His stance says, 'I'm not even going to take you seriously', which is fine. If he wants to give you an easy win, you're not stupid enough to pass that up. You keep a petulant scowl on your face anyway, making sure you look just a little off-balance.

The heart of Pouncing Raccoon is, as always, misdirection and messing with your opponent. Plus, you just like messing with people anywa- no! No more manipulating people!

... Except for pirates like Doctor Lawless, of course, that's just dandy.

"Ready?"

"Remember, no Devil Fruit!"

He shrugs, swinging the massive sword lightly through the air. "Mmhm. Of course. Sword against sword - or swords, in your case."

"You can never have too many adorable weapons," you inform him.

He pauses, then scoffs. "Of course. In that case, we'll fight until one of us is incapacitated or receives what would have been a fatal wound. Obviously I'll refrain from actually murdering you, Mister Flashman."

"Hey! I could end up killing YOU, y'know!"

"Possible, but unlikely." He lazily rolls his shoulders, nodachi rising. "Begin."

And then he's all up in your face.

Devil Fruit or not, Lawless is FAST.

Luckily, you have sugar and Kami-e on your side, so your body slips smoothly out of the way of the first blow, even as you try to calm yourself and -

Observation activated.

Ka-tan angles to deflect the tip of the nodachi - and wow, does it feel weirdly dark and awful, like some kind of rotten meat and slimy mud, the hell? - before your body drifts by his side, like paper caught on a breeze, and Cut-chan skins through the air in the path she needs, her blade nipping along Lawless' side.

(1/3)

>>3686940
MWAHAHAHAHA, THE JOBBERY IS PASSED ON FOREVER!
>>
She cuts through his (badass) jacket and shirt, by the way he flinches and twists away to reveal a thin dribble of blood along her edge.

"First blood!"

You feel Lawless' emotions bubble with fury-confusion-annoyance, before self-recrimination rises to the fore, a rare flavor.

Then he gets faster. Hits harder.

The nodachi keeps swinging, his feet step-step-stepping quickly in response to your own footwork, but you have Observation, and you're reasonably sure he doesn't. Not from the way he needs to take the (admittedly short) time to react to your own movements. He's even better than Fop was, back in your duel, but you've improved plenty since then, and it shows.

Not quite enough, though.

For what must be two, three, maybe four minutes, you hold each other off - there's some reluctant respect and interest in Lawless' emotions now, now it's obvious your previous cut wasn't a fluke. The nodachi is heavy, and while you may be stronger than you look, you've felt the weight of his blows from straining Ka-tan to deflect them - you're not dumb enough to turn this into a contest of strength.

Nor of stamina, just in case. The guy is older than you, after all, and you bet he's been training for a good while longer than you have.

He tries to wear you down or strike with strength; you dodge and avoid and try to be where he isn't, mostly succeeding until Lawless finally pulls a zig-zag motion with his blade that seemed unlikely to your Haki, and you're turning Cut-chan to disengage from the nodachi even as the nodachi is already turning back and towards you, a massive slab of cruel metal cracking the air as it bites across (into) your thigh, sending you lurching, stumbling, as you try to correct your balance and Kami-e out of the follow-up blow.

You just barely make it.

"More blood," the Surgeon of Death murmurs.

His sword tastes hungry.

The next few minutes, you move even faster, despite the throbbing pain in your leg, the burn of your muscles, pushed on by the odd glitter in Lawless' eyes and the slash of cold grin.

You feel... a dull excitement, distant behind the calm you need for Observation.

The cuts build up.
>>
Some on you, some on him. An unspoken courtesy means neither of you go for the throat or face, or try to lop each other's fingers off - and of course, neither of you use your Devil Fruits. But three blades, two graceful and swift, and one hewn like a charging rhino, mean that not every blow can be avoided or blunted.

Finally, you misstep.

Turn too slow. Instinctively, you raise your blades as Observation pointlessly tells you where the gleeful nodachi will fall, and you have time to think, 'They mustn't break, they mustn't-', before Ka-tan and Cut-chan are black, and Lawless tastes like confusion-realization-shock-reconsideration as the nodachi slams into your blades and - aside from pushing them back - fails to do absolutely anything.

The pair of you stand there, blades locked in awkward silence.

"Armament," says Lawless.

"Arma-meant to do that?" Then, because you're a gracious young gentleman who's too polite to kick an opponent in the balls when you're just sparring, you scrape Ka-tan quickly along the nodachi's length, and send her disengaging point-first against Lawless' heart. If he has one.

He freezes.

"I win," you chirp, above the sound of your respective heavy breathing.

Lawless stares at you, then Ka-tan, before his shocked gaze turns half-lidded and bland a few seconds later, the nodachi lifting from Cut-chan. "So you did," he comments carelessly, as if it means nothing at all, despite the blood dripping from all three blades and staining your clothes.

>(smirk like an asshole) You're not awful, Lawless... just not good enough~
>What's your sword called?

Sorting out your gains from the spar, will be in separate comment.

GAAAAAAAINS

Swordsmanship +1
Pouncing Trash-panda + 3
Observation +1, DC 46
Armament +1, DC 93 (you'll get another +1 and down to DC 92 soonish)
Kami-e should be at B.15 currently according to what I can see, but is listed as A.0 on the pastebin?
Metal-Cutting increased to A.05!
The utter shock of Doctor Oniisan.

we can ask his sword's name afterwards, otherwise he'll try to weasel out of giving us our real question

This. I'd rather not fall for the dumb bait when we could word an in-character question to figure out Law's endgame in one swoop. That'd be a tidy way to hit Flashy right in the moral crisis.

Ohohoho, thought you could sneak some extra Kami-e gains past me did you?! Or perhaps... the jobber gland was already doing its evil work...

Locked for asking oniisan a question!

That's three questions. Assume he'll answer the first one.
"Because I might know who your father is."

Shhh, don't ruin it for me!

Kami-e has now gone up to B.3, by the way.

Might leave this vote for overnight because it's late and I'll need to make a new thread tomorrow anyway.
>>
>>3687141
He could do that with any question we ask if he really wanted to.
>>
>>3687179
The way you worded it basically asks him 3 questions, giving the liberty to answer 1 of them. If he wants to be pendactic he will pick the one that reveals the least info. If he wants to be nice, he will choose one of the other 2. Its better to not give him the choice in this case, no matter how much we think we know how he will act.
