In the far future, biotechnology advances by leaps and bounds, creating stunning achievements in medical, civil, and military applications. Illness becomes a thing of the past, and genetic modification is as commonplace as cosmetic surgery.

However, like all great advances, unchecked progress and experimentation has led to abuse and corruption. Ultra powerful megacorporations that monopolized the latest biotech have risen to be the great powers of the age, waging secret wars of sabotage, espionage, and deceit to get ahead of each other.

In order to fuel their rampant growth, megacorps develop lethal diseases and viruses, horrific bio-organic abominations, and ever more exotic genetic modifications to both sell to the highest bidder and unleash upon each other.

The rampant proliferation of bioweapons, and the need to contain them, has given rise to a new profession, the BIOWEAPON HUNTER.

You are LEWIS, a Hunter specializing in hunting down biological threats with your T-Doll companion HK!

Currently, a band of what you had to assume were Umbrella affiliated mercenaries were closing in on your family ranch, with only you and Mom's caretaker T-Doll Springfield present to defend it.

Thankfully, it seemed that Mom was expecting something like this to happen, and the ranch had no shortage of stockpiled weapons and prepared defenses. In addition to the fortified bunker and accompanying armory laying beneath the ranch, there was also a comprehensive surveillance system, and all the walls had armor plate in them strong enough to repel most types of weaponry. Hell, there were booby traps that could be set up.

Mom was certainly scarily well prepared.

"It appears the the convoy has stopped roughly half a mile away." Springfield informs you, her systems directly integrated into the Ranch's security systems, giving her an eye on everything in the immediate vicinity.

"Probably don't want to get caught in another ambush." You nod. "It's likely they'll proceed on foot through the forest for cover."

"That should give us plenty of time to get these set up!" Springfield points to the cache of booby traps. Mines, sentry guns, tripwires, barbed wire, and more.

You spend the time you have left fortifying the main compound. As Springfield boards up the windows to increase cover and reduce visibility, you head out and start planting mines and remote explosives in various strategic areas, mostly in areas that provided direct access to the house and around corners and near common areas to take cover. You also planted demolition charges in the outlying buildings like the barn, which the mercs were bound to use as a forward outpost.

In addition, you had plenty of loops of barbed wire to line around the perimeter, providing another impediment for anybody thinking they could just simply run straight in. Springfield also sets up a number of portable sentry guns watching the house's blind spots and chokepoints.

Finally, a good chunk the armory was moved into the house proper for easier access. You had a number of rifles, heavy machine guns, grenades, and that exotic bioplasma launcher ready and at your disposal.

"Well, we've hardened this place up as much as we could!' Springfield nods as she picks up a rifle and checks it. "I'm quite the good shot, so I'm thinking I can take a position up in the windmill. It's quite the advantageous vantage point."

"Isn't that a bit risky?" You frown. "It's pretty exposed up there."

"I'm still a T-Doll, so I can take a scrape or two." Springfield smiles reassuringly. Besides, it's easier for them to find cover if we don't have multiple lanes of fire."

"All right, go for it." You nod. "Just be careful up there."

"I should be telling YOU to be careful!" Springfield winks as she picks up her hunting rifle as well as several boxes of ammo.

"Yeah yeah, whatever." You sigh as the T-Doll exits.

Meanwhile you keep your machine gun mounted just inside the front window, which had a nice, wide arc of fire across the front lawn. All that was left was to wait.

"Tracking movement in the trees." Springfield warns you over the radio. "I'd say about a dozen regular contacts and two larger ones."

Your bionsensor buzzes with activity, largely telling you the same. However, you were also getting readings from behind.

"Looks like another dozen coming up from the low ground behind the house." Springfield confirms. "They're in your blind spot so I'll keep them busy while you handle the front!"

"Got it." You nod as you keep your view trained forward. Already, you could see the brush rustling from hidden movement.

You hold your fire and watch as a squad of black clad mercs shuffle out of the trees, rifles raised and ready as they dash into the relative safety of the barn. Right behind them, two massive Tyrant-class BOWs lumber forward, with armor plates bonded directly to their flesh. Obviously some type of breaching variant.

Well, you figure this was as good a time as any as you grip the detonator in your hand. The barn was getting old anyways.

Click.

The barn suddenly explodes in a blinding flash of light, sending flaming debris flying int all directions. Both Tyrants are practically vaporized by the blast, and you didn't even want to think about what happened to the mercs inside.

At the same time, you could hear a steady popping of rifle shots from the windmill as Springfield was no doubt picking off the mercs coming up from behind.

"Second wave incoming!" Springfield warns. "You've certainly riled them up!"

"What can we expect?" You ask.

"They're sending in the cannon fodder first." Springfield sighs. "Dozens of Ganados-class, a half dozen Hunter-class, and two more Tyrant-class."

Damn, that was some serious numbers they were throwing at you. No doubt to whittle down your ammo and defenses through sheer attrition.

You grimace. Ganados class were basically the lowest rung of BOWs. Basically mass produced human clones with very low intelligence but massively amped aggression. Not much more than a cheap, disposable angry mob. Not exactly a subtle weapon to be used, but then again, there wasn't really anything subtle about a BOW.

The Hunters and Tyrants were bigger worries, but you couldn't pick them out in this wave of gnashing, screaming opponents. You'd have to thin their numbers before they started eating into your prepared defenses.

You pull the trigger on your machine gun and hold the trigger down, unleashing a hail of bullets at the oncoming horde of BOWs.

However, despite how much automatic fire you pour into the Ganados, you can't seem to put a dent in their numbers as they continue to charge forward, pushing aside or trampling those of their number that were slowed or wounded by your bullets.

And then they hit your first line of defense, the line of barbed wire. Almost immediately, the front rank of Ganados trip over and twist themselves into the wire, thrashing and snarling as the jagged steel cut into their flesh. However, their bodies served as ample footholds for their fellows to trample over them unimpeded, right into the minefield.

Explosions ripple across the front yard as Ganados are blown apart without a care, bodies flying in all directions. Finally, their numbers start to to thin, but at this point, there were large breaches in both the barbed wire and minefield. The horde, now greatly thinned, still had significant numbers and start crowding against the front wall, pounding away. There was no chance in hell they could break through on their own, but they were definitely blocking your vision. You had no idea where the Hunters or Tyrants were.

Springfield might be able to help, but she was still busy holding the rear...

Springfield was already performing a critical role keeping the rear secure, and you didn't want to risk pulling her off that duty. Instead, your only choice would be to exit from the back and flank the BOW force. Hopefully you can take them out before the third wave made its way in.

You check your little armory.. The MG was low on ammo at this point and it wouldn't cut it at this point. You grab one of the assault rifles and check your heavy ordnance. You had a whole belt of grenades you could use to quickly clear those damn Ganados out, while also providing a bit of bang against the larger Hunters and Tyrants that were surely out there.

Or, well, there was the bioplasma launcher. The ammo on that was VERY limited, but guaranteed to knock down a Tyrant or an entire clump of Ganandos.

You grab the belt of grenades and throw it over your shoulder as you move out of the back door, dashing around the building to the front. You could see the Ganados still pounding away at the front, while the Tyrants were now lumbering their way across the minefield. You had no visual on the Hunters, though.

And, to your concern, you could see movement in the treeline, your bionsensor confirming there were multiple contacts. Looks like the third wave was starting to organize now that the BOWs had absorbed the brunt of your defenses.

You pull the pins on the grenade belt and toss the belt at the feet of the mob of Ganados, the individual grenades breaking off and rolling in all directions, and you quickly take cover behind the corner of the house as they explode, your ears ringing from the endless explosions. You take another peek out and are glad to note that al of the Ganados were taken out.

However, you also see the Tyrants were now on the move, each of them winding up for a devastating charge attack.

One looked to be aiming for the front door of the house, while the other was pointed towards the base of the windmill. This was not good at all.

"Springfield! You got a Tyrant headed your way!" You warn.

Unfortunately, both Tyrants seem to easily shrug off both yours and Springfield's fire and continue their charges. The first Tyrant manages to smash straight through the armored door of the house, creating a massive hole and bursting straight out the other side.

Meanwhile, the second Tyrant smashes into the base of the windmill, sending the entire structure toppling over. You wince as you see the top of the windmill crash through the roof of the house. You couldn't see what happened to Springfield.

To make things worse, the third wave of mercs was now starting to move forward now that the Tyrants had battered a path for them, and your bionsensor was now finally starting to warn you of the presence of the Hunters, slowly slithering through a patch of tall grass towards your position.

"Looks like this is the end of the road for us, Lewis." Springfield says mournfully over the radio. "I'll buy you as much time as I can. Get to the bunker or the garage while you can."

That's right, the garage had a vehicle you could use to escape. You didn't like the idea of abandoning your old home, but at this rate neither it nor you would be around to regret much...

"I'm not leaving you behind, Springfield." You grunt as you dash back to the now heavily wrecked house.

"How sweet! I suppose I shouldn't have expected less from Alice's son!" Springfield chimes.

Inside, you see Springfield, her left arm snapped completely off and her clothes torn and tattered. Some of her synthetic flesh had also been peeled or torn off, revealing the robotic core underneath. However, that didn't seem to stop the T-Doll, as she was hefting the Bioplasma launcher with one arm. She aims it out of the hole where the front door used to be and fires three times.

A trio of bright green orbs arc out and explode into the front yard, covering everything in a thick, green paste that instantly ignited upon contact, creating a wall of emerald flame.

"That will buy us some time." Springfield notes happily as she casually picks up an old break action shotgun. "Have you decided what to do?"

"Springfield, get in the bunker!" You order her. "We'll hole up in there until HK arrives!"

"Got it!" Springfield nods as she grabs as much weapons and ammo with her one good arm before limping to the bunker entrance.

You pick up whatever extra ammo and weaponry you can salvage as well and hurry to the entrance as well. You could already hear the footsteps of Tyrants and the hissing of Hunters closing in. You didnt' have much time.

You wonder if you should trigger the explosives you had planted in the house. Another part of the scorched earth backup plan in case the defense was compromised. But well, that would mean completely destroying the house...

Well, it was just a house. Sure Mom and Carol might get mad, but honestly the situation was pretty dire. And it's not like you were really enthusiastic about this, either.

Next to the bunker entrance was the detonator, which you set to trigger in one minute. You then hurriedly scramble into the entrance, closing the hatch shut and sealing it. You don't even wait and keep moving forward towards the main bunker chamber. You didn't want to risk the ceiling collapsing on top of you, after all.

There, you see Springfield trying to attempt some field repair with limited success, trying to adjust her legs. You glance at the computer screen which was now showing the camera feeds. The Tyrants and Hunters were already inside the house, while the rest of the mercs were keeping a healthy distance, both from the bioplasma and from their nasty experience with the barn. It was only natural they would be wary of more explosive traps.

The final explosion, you don't really so much as feel, as the entire bunker chamber suddenly vibrates, loose concrete chips and dust tumbling down from the ceiling. You glance back at the screen, and saw most of the camera feeds were dead, no doubt taken out by the numerous blasts.

Hopefully the mercs would just write this off as a suicide, but that was honestly a bit of wishful thinking. If they were halfway decent, they'd be sniffing around for signs of a hidden escape route.

You could try contacting HK and coordinating with her, but you were pretty certain Umbrella was able to intercept your comms before. They might do so again...

You decide that the best thing to do was to sit still and wait. Make them think you're dead or long gone.

However, that doesn't mean you were going to leave your fate completely to chance. You set up your remaining machine guns to face the two main corridors in case the mercs are able to breach them. At the very least, you can make them work a little more for their bounty.

And all that's left is to wait...

You don't even move, and barely even breathe for fear that the mercs might have something that might pick it up. The seconds seem to creep into hours as you wait, your eyes glued to the remaining security feeds.

It seemed like the mercs were still performing a search pattern, but they were starting to disperse now, probably under the impression that you had used the explosion to mask your escape.

However, all you could see was mercs and Hunter-class BOWs moving past the perimeter cameras, indicating they were spreading out. You had no idea the exact number of mercs still in the main compound, and none of the Tyrants were accounted for, either.

"Wait, I'm picking up movement." Springfield whisper and points to one of the feeds.

Sure enough, you see HK blazing down the road on a motorcycle, her Typhoon grenade launcher mounted on her back and the Harkonnen heavy cannon slung on her right arm. She was definitely coming in hot and heavy.

"Springfield, you stay here." You tell her. "That's an order. You're not going to get anything done down an arm."

Springfield opens her mouth to protest, but her programming kicks in and she sits back down, albeit reluctantly.

"All right, just be careful out there." She says, a bit deflated.

"Of course." You nod as you jog down the corridor to the barn.

You carefully open the hatch just a crack, and you can see about a dozen mercs scattered around the compound area in a loose patrol formation. In the center of the smoldering yard, you could see one of the Tyrants milling about, obviously waiting for orders.

In the distance, you could hear the roar of HK's motorcycle, and even the mercs were starting to hear it too, some of them turning their heads curiously or consulting their radios to confirm what they were hearing. HK definitely was not giving much regard to the element of surprise here.

Well that was where you came in.

"GET OFF MY MOM'S LAWN!" You yell as you burst out of the hatch, machine gun ready to rip.

Unfortunately, the mercs were far faster than you thought. You suspected that they had some sort of biomod boosting their reflexes, as they all immediately dash for cover, finding safety from your attacks.

HK meanwhile blazes in on her motorcycle, her Harkonnen rifle aimed and ready. She fires once and the shell slams into the Tyrant's chest, but the shell overpenetrates and punches clean through without causing significant damage. HK guns the engine again and stay moving and prevent herself from being an easy target.

The Tyrant starts lumbering forward to chase after HK while the rest of the mercs are trying to regroup, returning sporadic fire at both you and HK.

As HK led the Tyrant off on a merry chase, you took the chance to make a dash for the trees, which would provide a better base of fire against the mercs and put them in a crossfire between you and HK. The mercs, meanwhile were organizing into a defensive circle, no doubt to keep themselves protected until the rest of their buddies to regroup, which meant you had to take care of this before they got here.

You slap a fresh belt into your machine gun and take position behind one of the thicker trees before laying down a fresh hail of bullets.

You unload your machine gun again, but yet again the mercs are unnaturally quick, ducking your fire before you can really score any solid hits, which was just damn frustrating.

Fortunately, HK was doing much better. The Tyrant attempts to charge her, but HK manages to juke it at the last second with a burst of speed from her motorcycle. She does a quick donut turn with her bike to swing the Harkonnen in line with the Tyrant's back and lets loose another shot.

This time, she's on target, and the Tyrant's head evaporates as the heavy cannon shell impacts dead center, and the BOW falls. HK then revs the engine of her motorcycle and starts circling the mercs' defensive formation, drawing their fire towards herself.

"Lewis, I'll begin operations to suppress the enemy." HK's familiar, to the point voice announces over the radio. "I recommend you take that opportunity to escape. Enemy reinforcements are already inbound."

Bunched up in that tight defensive circle, the mercs don't even stand a chance against the combined crossfire of your machine gun and HK's devastating Typhoon barrages.

However, a couple of them manage to disengage from the one sided slaughter and make a break for the rear of what was left of the house, where the uneven terrain could afford better cover and would slow down HK's motorcycle.

"Sensors are picking up incoming aerial contacts." HK warns. "We can finish off the retreating enemy, but I recommend we take this chance to disengage while we can."

"We'll escape on wheels." You say as you head over to the garage, one of the few buildings still standing on the property. "Springfield, things are clear up here for now. We're leaving, so meet us at the garage."

"Coming!" Springfield responds cheerfully.

You and HK head over to the garage where you grab the door handle and pull it open. And there, in all it's glory was... Pinky.

You honestly had no idea why Mom kept a freaking pink Humvee around, but apparently she had a lot of fond memories of it, which is why she kept it at the ranch and made sure it was well maintained. Well, you couldn't really complain now.

Still didn't make it any less embarrassing to look at, though.

"Ah, so we're leaving in the family car, then!" Springfield smiles as she trots up to the passenger side, pulling the door open with her one good arm. "HK, will you be riding with us?"

Well, even with Springfield acting as gunner, her single arm would make it difficult to properly work any sort of weapon, so you had to rely on HK to provide the majority of the protection. Not to mention, her faster and nimbler motorcycle would allow her to reposition quickly if needed.

I'd rather not have them follow us to the rendezvous point

"HK, can you handle those helos?" You ask.

""Affirmative." HK confirms. "Engaging."

You HK stop or slow down her motorcycle as your jeep barrels past her. HK then turns around and takes aim with the Harkonnen...

I swear that HK's real proficiency is with that gun.

HK pauses for a moment as she lines up her shot and fires, the CRACK of the Harkonnen echoing in the air even from this distance. You keep looking at your rearview mirror as one of the helicopters seems to lose control and it nosedives into the ground. The second helicopter immediately takes evasive maneuvers as it swiftly turns around and flies away in the opposite direction. Looks like the had finally given up, at least for now.

"Magnificent shooting, HK!" Springfield gasps.

"Yeah, that was a great shot." You add.

"All right, there is nothing impeding us from the rendezvous point." HK notes as she shoots ahead of you again. As she passes, you can almost swear HK is smiling smugly, but that might've just been your imagination.

A few minutes later, HK veers off the main road and you follow her off into another wooded area, where the side road leads into a clearing. There, you could see a white, unmarked helicopter and three figures standing in front.

There was Nemo, flanked on the sides by two black-clad T-Dolls.

"Come on, Lewis, we don't have a lot of time to waste." Nemo says, motioning for you to get into the helicopter.

Meanwhile, one of the T-Dolls gives you a cheerful wave while the other just glowers at you.

This day seemed to be getting more confusing by the minute...

Seeya boss.

I hope we at least have the opportunity to scim through the ruins and salvage any precious mementos that somehow survived the explosion.

Also, we may need to see if Lewis', and Carol's homes have been raided in the meantime.

So what the hell are we going to say to Alice, Carol, Lucina, and Nemo after we blew up the house?

We wanted to give Lucina a break for a few days without telling anyone, and it took less than two days for everything to go to hell?

At least there's one silver lining:

All evidence of the night of passion went up in flames. Hopefully at least. Don't need Springfield playing an audio recording, or a gene sample being left behind.

We can just say that Alice is going to need to stay at Carol, or Egan's place for a bit. Then Alice can sleep soundly knowing that she isn't sleeping in a bed that needs a thorough cleaning, and deodorizing.

There’s plenty of samples with the police chief though
