General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: The Dark type gym in Terichi

Recently: Herb and company go to the Dark gym, and Herb begins his battle

“Fury Swipes! Overwhelm her!”

Instantly, the Weavile leaps forward. It seems very accustomed to the platforms and darkness, not bothered at all. Not even when the dark area suddenly switches from Bella’s corner to the far left section while it runs.

“Bella! Leech Seed and get some distance!” You hope to counter their strategy. If they’re closing in on Belladonna, you want to have the opposite happen.

Belladonna plants herself firmly in place. Why? Didn’t she her you? Weavile gets almost point blank with Belladonna. Both flowery arms flash forward, and there’s a loud noise that only sounds like Leech Seed in the echo.

You would have missed it if you blinked. Weavile is launched back and wrapped in a mess of green vines and seeds. Enough to impede his movement. He falls to the ground, struggling. He’s not out of the fight, though. He’ll probably be able to get loose after a bit of effort.

“That’s my girl! Gain distance by forcing them back!” Laki shouts.

Bella smirks, and taps her feet to the slowly increasing beat. She flourishes a little while energy is sapped from Weavile to her.

Poison also takes it’s toll on Weavile. He rolls around in the far right corner.

“Try to escape, Weavile! Get those sharp claws angled up!”

Weavile is struggling to escape, but with the poison and leech seed wrapped around it, there’s little success.

You begin to tap your feet along with Belladonna and get into the groove of things too. It’s a nice, catchy beat. The DJ way up in his booth looks pretty into what he’s doing. Huh, now that you actually look closer, you notice he’s also the referee. You haven’t seen a lot in terms of referees in gyms in the region.

“Don’t let up! Stun Spore!” You bring your focus back.

She opens up with a massive cloud of dust, all over that section where Weavile is. The opposing pokemon gets covered. While the cloud settles, Belladonna struts a few steps forward and shimmies a little. You begin to loosen up some more.

Then the lights go out over Weavile. He’s completely vanished in the dark.

“Stroke of luck, Weavile. Let’s take advantage of it!”

Bella reaches out to catch the incoming green ball of energy from Leech Seed, and does a twirl when she gets it.

Sunny day is something I think we can slip in while she swaps Pokémon, put some pressure on so she can’t think too hard.

Also, we’ve been pretty lucky so far that Weavile doesn’t get a lot of coverage options. Let’s be prepared for her next poke to take more advantage of the inverse rules.

Yeah. You’re really getting into this. You follow Belladonna’s movements, trying your best to follow along. The more you do it, the easier it gets. The lights around the lit areas are increasing and decreasing with the beat too, like an almost hypnotic pattern.

“Get out! Struggle!” The gym leader yells.

“Magical Leaf, Bella!” You stop dancing for a second to pose and point, as loose and stylishly as you can. Your dad told you once that the secret to dancing is staying loose. Follow the rhythm, but keep your movements loose enough that you can swing into another motion to match the music even if it changes from a soft ballad to hard rock or hip hop. Easier said than done, of course.

Belladonna twirls then does big, exaggerated high steps that move her backwards slightly while the Magical Leaf flows from her. It follows into the darkness. You don’t even know if she hit anything until a second later, when light returns to that section. Weavile is there losing consciousness.

“Return, Weavile.” The gym leader commands. “I sense a lot of darkness from that one.” Meara, the gym leader says somberly. Belladonna begins to slow in her dance and look concerned. “Psssht. Kidding! You’re brilliant, girl! Don’t let anyone take away your sunlight!”

Bella returns to being very happy and poses and checks to see if you and everyone are looking. You do your own pose to point at her, and she giggles. Laki, Hana, and Abigail giggle too.

You hope those are good giggles.

“Looks like you’re up next, Crawdaunt.” She announces as she fishes in her pocket for the pokeball. The ball hasn’t left her hand yet.

Hmm, our only super effective move will be Astonish, which is pretty weak. And since Discharge is resisted, they’ll be around the same strength.

Can we see if Crawdaunt is holding an item? We might be able to get something good off of Trick.

We could also try to cheese things with Confuse ray, or possess the lights for a super powerful Flash attack.
>>
You decide to swap pokemon during these quick few seconds. “Bella! Good job! Return for now.”

She looks a little disappointed, but ever the performer, she decides to do a spin and bow as she’s recalled. She’s satisfied with the cheers from the girls.

“Ghost Pepper! You’re up!”

Ghost Pepper hesitates for a second, being sure about your order. Then with great keenness zooms out close to where Belladonna was. Pepper zips around in the same little area, looking a bit nervous.

Crawdaunt bounces her head to the beat, looking very confidence. She lets her claw drop to the side and leers at Ghost Pepper. You think it’s holding something, but the poor light makes it hard to see.

The darkness is in the close, right corner now. The pattern seems to go in a circle, but there’s no guarantee it’ll continue that.

“We don’t have to worry one bit, Crawdaunt.” She nods her head upwards. Crawdaunt glances back, looking annoyed that she said that. “Alright! Aqua Jet!”

Crawduant clears an impressive amount of distance in a short time. But she started far enough that you can see a bit of a slowdown as she gets closer. The blow strikes Ghost Pepper enough to coax a loud a surprised noise even over the music.

“It’s alright, Ghost! Don’t worry!” You assure your pokemon. He just looks so worried. “Now, counter with Thunder Wave!”

Ghost Pepper is a little distracted from the Crawdaunt snipping at it from below, but he backs off and spins to whip up a big slap of electricity across Crawdaunt’s body. The snipping slows.

“Great job, Pepper!”

Ghost Pepper sighs in relief, but becomes anxious once again as Crawdaunt moves towards it.

Then the area they’re in goes completely dark.

“Now we have them, Crawduant!”

“Ghost Pepper! Flash!” You announce, taking out your pokedex to pose. If you time this just right... click!

No time to check it, but you hope that turned out well. Flash went off beautifully! In fact, good enough that you’re glad you were facing away for the selfie you just took. Ideally, you should see Ghost Pepper in the background in their first pokemon battle. That’ll be a great memory.

“GAH!” Meara shouts covering her eyes. She throws off her sunglasses. The girls on the sidelines all look squinty and surprised too, but nobody nearly as bad as the gym leader that had shades on.

“Move around and hit it with Swift!” She waves her hands without looking. “Show them how we handle Ghosts!”

What’s that supposed to mean?

Well, despite Crawduaunt having definitely gotten a blinding flash, you see the Swift stars chase after Ghost Pepper even as he tries to fly away from them. He gets to under the far right platform before they slam into him.

“Ghost Pepper!”

Ghost shakes it off. That looked like it hurt, though.

What can you do about Swift?

“Confuse Ray! You can do it!”

The buzzing Rotom looks very concerned about all the pressure, but doesn’t let it get in the way of it’s task. He flies up through the platform as if it isn’t there, and fires a ball of purple glowing energy just as the lights switch positions. The darkness seems to have broken the pattern and followed Ghost Pepper. It causes a confusing scene where he’s suddenly gone again and the purple ball flies out of the dark area.

Crawdaunt is surprised to be hit by it. As it tries to use Swift again, it gets confused and instead wanders off the edge of the platform. It’s a steep drop, but Crawdaunts strong shell and relatively light weight for it’s size stops it from being too much damage.

The darkness shifts to the entire left side now. Crawduant is only about a foot away from it on the floor.

“Way to go, Ghost Pepper!” Abigail shouts. “You’re kicking butt!”

Ghost Pepper was closing it’s eyes, expecting another surprisingly hard-hitting Swift, but now he’s looking a bit more confident.

The gym leader bobs her head to the beat, then throws out her arms wide. This causes the big, fluffy coat she’s wearing to expose the small, tight fitting shirt and tiny booty shorts underneath. She shouts instructions to her Crawdaunt, but you can’t hear a word of it. The music has been becoming louder and louder. Crawdaunt seems to hear it though, and quickly scrambles into the dark area.

Hopefully that also means she can’t hear you. “Ghost Pepper!” You pause in your shout for a second to time it to the beat. “Ast-on-ish!”

You’re really getting into this!

The looks from the girls take a lot of the kick out of your movement though. They’re not making any faces or anything, but being watched makes it a bit harder to feel uninhibited.

Ghost Pepper begins to flash a bit with the beat. He still looks nervous up there, but seeing you move seems to make him want to do something too. That in turn gives you a little more confidence to move as much as you were a second ago.

Pepper flies towards the darkness where Crawdaunt was. The light on his body flashes in the dark, making him visible. But each flash happens in an unpredictable spot. He just appears here, then there, then somewhere else.

Then a bright, giant, terrifying grin flashes in the dark with the beat.

Crawdaunt scrambles out of the darkness and trips over her legs, faceplanting on the floor! It’s super effective, and Crawduant also didn’t have the agility to attack!

“Charge!” You shout, moving your feet and shoulders, then letting it roll up down your arm to your finger as you point. “Let us see a light show!’

Swirling electrical patterns form around Ghost Pepper in the dark as he charges his electrical capacity. In the dark, and with the rythmic pulsing in the beat, it looks pretty cool. You can see the increasingly confident look in Ghost Pepper’s glowing smile.

She looks conflicted. Or maybe uncertain. But she resolves herself and shouts. You manage to catch it thanks to a sudden lul in the music. “Now, Crawdaunt!”

Crawduant leaps into the darkness with both claws pointing forward. It tackles down Ghost Pepper and clamps down hard. It’s super effective and a very hard hit!

“Great Vice Grip! Now, can I get a count?” She motions to the referee.

The DJ/referee spins a record with a recording of an old-timey radio personality counting.

Unless something changes quickly, Ghost Pepper will be with knocked out from pain or pinned for too long!

Ghost Pepper struggles in vain, but he’s very firmly pinned, and each movement causes the Vice Grip to tighten. Ghost Pepper’s glow is fading in the darkness.

We can hope that Crawduant is confused this turn?

yeah, or para'd hopefully.

How do those rolls work again?

“Try to get out, Ghost Pepper! See if you can go through the light!”

Ghost Pepper struggles as it gets crushed under the Vice Grip. But despite the confusion and paralysis, Crawdaunt keeps Ghost Pepper pinned. It struggles mightily to overcome that for the moment and presses down.

“Eight...Nine-wikiwiki-nine” the referee DJ does a creative spin on the countdown “tuh-tuh-teniity ten! The Rotom is oooooouuut!”

The music pitches downward as he announces Ghost Pepper’s defeat. You retrieve him with the pokeball. “It’s alright. You did great.”

Boy, that took a lot of steam out of your moves. You don’t mind losing or anything, but you know Ghost Pepper will stress about this later.

Crawdaunt is a mess, at least. It’s shaking off it’s confusion, but it’s still paralyzed and decently hurt.

“Dice, your t-”

Dice leaps onto the battle arena, crashing onto the floor with a loud thud.

“...urn.” You can’t tell if he cracked the dance floor or not. He roars and snarls as he slithers moves oddly towards his opponent.

“Don’t let him intimidate you. Your claws and water moves can make short work of him. Remember that you’re a dancer!”

Crawduant looks less confident than her trainer. Maybe if it wasn’t paralyzed it might try some dance moves, but right now it doesn’t move so well.

All the lights on the dance floor go out.

>Surf! Cover the whole area!
>Endure, it’s a trap
>Dragon Dance with an evasive spin
>Aqua Tail where you last saw it in a wide arc
>Use Scary Face to reduce it’s speed to next to nothing. Then you can just play with in
>Quick! Water Gun the spot you last saw it
>Something else

>Surf! Cover the whole area!

We should be able to finish it off with a supereffective Surf, boosted by unlocked potential’s protectiveness boost.

And I kinda want to save Dragon Dance for the spotlight.

[I'm afraid that's all for tonight. I'm not exactly sure how my week is looking with my new job, but I'll know for sure on Monday and update you guys then. Worse case scenario is running next saturday.]

>>Surf! Cover the whole area!

Crawdaunt doesn't have the agility or ability to really dodge this, and he can't attack if he's busy getting completely swept up!
>>
>>3175372
Well, it could still try to hit first with Aqua Jet. Or hope we miss and try to land an Endeavor.
>>
Hey, guys. What was the rational behind using charge when Pepper was fighting Crawdaunt? I was hoping we could have just gone in on a second Astonish and been able to finish out the fight without losing Pepper. Were you guys going for two charges and then using Discharge?
>>
>>3175415
I think going Charge then Discharge would have worked, taking out Crawdaunt while looking maximum flashy. And pulling out new moves keeps you from getting predictable or tiring your Pokémon. (Not that a low base power move like that would have been straining in this case.) I dunno, I wasn’t here for that vote. But it could have worked.

But I came back after and voted to try to possess the light. In hindsight, I should have gone for discharge. The big raw power from charge and 80 base power should have offset the type disadvantage. But Pepper was in a pinch and I panicked and tried to do something too fancy. Plus, I’m not familiar with the phasing or possession mechanics. So I wasn’t sure why just touching the floor didn’t let us escape into it, nor why Pepper’s usual ability to phase through other Pokémon didn’t let it escape.

And I think that explanation works in-character for Herb too. He got thrown off his rhythm after a commanding lead where he could show off and isn’t as in synch with Pepper’s capabilities as his other Pokemons’s yet.

And I think that’s something Herb should let Pepper know, after the battle. That we know we’re not very experienced battling together yet and we’ll both get better. Herb will understand Pepper better and Pepper will learn more moves. For instance, Volt Switch would have been a great option there. I don’t remember if we still have that TM though.

Woop, almost forgot. Thanks for running!
>>
>>3175358
Yeah, thanks for running, Gobble. You're the best!
>>
>>3175415
We were gambling on the Accuracy decrease, Paralyses, and Confusion to be enough to set up an extra powerful Discharge on the next Pokemon sent out. Frankly Meara got really lucky that Vice Grip worked. We could afford that gambit since it's effectively a 2 Vs.1 right now since Crawdaunt should go down to a stiff breeze. I doubt she has anything that will be a good match for both Dice and Bella.
>>
>>3175484
In inverse, water is the way to go against a water/grass combo. But we could very much still see Dice get caught out here with an Endeavor, Guillotine, or other such powerful gambit, and she does have the advantage of still having her third Pokémon unselected. Like Gobble at the end of our last match, we still need to do our best here, even as we have fun with it.

And she could still pull out, say, Greninja, Sharpedo, or Mega Gyarados as a strong water type.

Sorry I'm late to tell you since I drifted off, but thanks for running, Gobble!

I really love the stuff you posit in the between times between runs.]

I wonder if Keira’ll be able to keep her face paints after changing temples? I don’t think she’s going to be comfortable without them.

How will she explain her change to her elders in the church? They have psychics, and we super don’t want them finding out about the dead god war. Has she had that much actual interaction with fertility clergy or sex/birth? She’s been pretty naked, I guess.

Due to vow stuff, isn’t this going to be like, the one branch that she can’t transfer out of?

Like, it’s convenient for lewds and all, and her transfer out of her current branch has been a long time coming, but I don’t see why she’s going to fertility and not, like, a part of the grass temple that we’ve already seen or something.

Apparently she’s already considered this plenty, but it’s weird being on the outside and not being privy to that thought process.

I’d hope she’s going to be learning some real sexology stuff and not just orgy magic with some midwifery. I’ll expound on that later.

Keira’s under a lot of scrutiny, being on her journey as an experiment by the church. I’m afraid this will make them think that mainland influence will make girls want to put access to sex over their paths in their temples. Not everyone can be a fertility priestess.

I’m more inclined to think what the islands need from a young talented priestess is someone who can bring back the traditions of lost temples with her access to some sort of ability to, I don’t know, scry the past?

(The Normal temple being revoked as it is is dumb.)

What were the temples that are not in normal use right now again? Normal, rock, fairy, uh...
>>
Wait, did I just bump the thread? I thought there was a 72hr bump limit?
>>
>>3184301
I dont think Fertility priests are a separate temple its just a specialist position. So if it is just a specialist title she would keep the paints I guess and it wouldn't change the fact that she is a priestess of her respective temple. Also celibacy is just an encouraged stance, She talked about how older priestesses have the option to marry its just that the temples control their lives and their work requires a minimizing of distractions.

The scrutiny she is under is partly because she kind of snapped under the pressure of being a prodigy. She was one to disregard authority and mainland influence wasn't going to stop or slow down so they are using her as an experiment and there are probably a multitude of factions wanting different results from the outcome.
