>Quest Summary (up to chapter 38): https://pastebin.com/9aNStLUp

You sit down on your bed and look over your clothing, trying to find something to wear today. You feel... strange. Not sad, but you can't say you're happy at all. Part of you wants to just skip breakfast so you can get to work on... something.

...

Maybe training? You have a long way to go before you'd feel comfortable taking on Mahron again, and if Terry plans on fighting you that's a longer way still.

The skills you gained by syncing have faded, and you can't even resummon them. In spite of that, you still feel their influence on your thoughts. It's like every emotion is being stretched before you get to experience it, making it feel... lessened.

Add onto that the fact that for whatever reason you're no longer allowed to just snuggle anymore...

You shake your head and and retask yourself. Stomach requires breakfast. Breakfast requires pants. Pants require choosing.

...

Why do you even own so many pairs of pants? You can only wear one at a time, and you usually keep them on for multiple days at a time. You should have 2 pairs with a backup just in case... not ten for no reason.

"Is something wrong, sir?" Lola asks.

You turn around and see her peeking through the door. She looks concerned.

"It's nothing, I'm just having some trouble picking an outfit..." You say.

Lola smiles and hops into the room. "Well don't you worry. Let Lola's fashion expertise work for you!" She says, as she examines your clothing and hums. It only takes her a few seconds, and she's got something that looks like it'll look good. "Here ya go, sir!"

"Thanks..." You say.

Lola smiles briefly, the concerned look quickly comes back though.

"I... I can't get changed with you watching me" You say.

"Are you sure nothing's wrong, sir?" She asks. "You've got that look people get when somethin's eatin' them"

"What look?" You ask.

"This look" She says, making an overexaggerrated face.

"I'll be fine" You say. "It's nothing I can't handle"

"Really?" She asks.

"Really" You reply.

"Well, if you insist..." She says, as she leans in and gives you a big hug. "Keep it up, sir. You're doin' just fine"

"Thanks..." You reply.

"Now, I've gotta go warn the kitchens that you're up and about" She says, as she hops towards the door. "See ya!"

"Later" You reply.

Lola shuts the door behind you, and you put on the clothes she laid out. It does look pretty good... maybe you should get her to do this more often.

When you're all dressed you head down to eat breakfast. The Devil family is already here, along with everyone else. Carrie is here as well with Elizabeth... it looks like she's on orphanwatch this morning...

You go over and sit with Fran, Cheska, Lily, and Daisy.

"Yuu!" Lily exclaims, as she hops out of her chair.

"Good morning, Lily" You say, as you sit down and heft her up into your lap. "Sleep well?"

Lily nods, as Coral flits over and into your collar.

You let Lily tell you all about the trip here while you wait for your breakfast, with storytime ending as soon as it arrives. Cheska is oddly quiet through all of this.

When Lily finishes eating, she wipes her mouth and gives you a big hug. Then she hops off of you and grabs her sister, the pair of them going to bug Carrie. From what you hear Carrie told them she'd give them a tour of the castle, and now they're demanding she deliver...

"Girls, don't bug the staff too much" You say.

"Kay" Lily says.

"It's not trouble" Carrie says, as she finishes off her own breakfast. The tiny Serpid coiled around her stomach finished a long time ago, having swallowed her entire meal all at once like she usually does.

While the devils drag Carrie out of the room, you consider what you want to do after breakfast.

You know that Fran said she wanted to talk... but you don't really feel like dealing with whatever she has to say just yet.

So for the most part you want to go see your mom, maybe talk to Belladonna about some stuff, or go train yourself...

You get up from the table and say bye to everyone.

"Where are you off to?" Fran asks.

"I'm gonna go practice some stuff" You say. "I'll be back... later"

You head out and grab the Rook from the front of the manor, riding it back down to the training yard.

With all these new problems, you find it comforting that there's at least one you know how to solve... You do some warmups by hitting a training dummy with your blades and spells for a bit, just to get a feel for everything.

Your body is still you, that's for certain. You strike the same, move the same, breathe the same.

With the warmup out of the way, you throw yourself headlong into what you're doing. Figuring you might be here a while, you focus on-

>>

You put away your blade, put some distance between you and the dummy, then hold out your hand and make it rain.

Stronger? Faster? Sharper?

Next time you won't need to get within ten feet of Mahron. You'll annihilate him without ever taking a step.

You spend an hour improving what you're currently capable of, making your spikes sharper, bucklers stronger, disruptors faster, and flares stickier.

Then you start augmenting them, working on ways to make them more effective aside from just strengthening them.

The first thing you do is find a way to make your seekers more accurate. It's hard to aim them as they are, simply because they're not fired directly from you. You shoot them in a direction and hope it's the right one...

You figure out a way to mark a location and make your seekers go to it, using either your blade or a bolt to leave the mark.

After practicing with that for a while, you realize that you're starting to run out of energy.

Instead of taking a break like you normally would, you feel frustrated. What can you hope to accomplish with limits like this? If only there was a way to break them...

You suddenly recall that Terry wrote something about unlimited power on Raven's stomach. It's not much of a clue, but it hints that such a thing is possible...

You decide to stop with the spellcraft and work with your floating blade for a bit, working into your regular attacks and figuring out better ways to move it around.

The best way to use it, at least you think it's the best way, is to hit with it either right before or right after a normal attack. That way your opponent is forced to guard one, and hopefully fails to guard the second.

After beating the shit out of the training dummy for a while, you step back and admire your work.

You let the blade float around while you catch your breath, stopping when you realize something.

The blade.

Unlimited power.

"Of course!" You exclaim.

The blade doesn't use your soul. You just funnel soul into it from your surroundings.

What's stopping you from casting spells that way? Not only would it let you completely ignore your reserves, but it would mean being able to cast them from anywhere.

You're excited to try it out...

You hold out your hand and focus on the space just beyond it. It's difficult to make the energy move without a focus...

The crystal in the mageblade must make it easier, but you're trying to do this without it.

The energy comes together slowly, and you eventually gather enough to do a thing.

...

The energy releases as you realize you don't really know how to make it do anything. Like how the crystal makes it easy to gather, the emitter makes it easy to use...

You take a breath and start focusing again. This will take a while, but you're determined to see it work...

>1/2
>>
You keep at it for a long time. By the time you start to get a little tired, you can turn the energy into a simple. Weak bolt.

It doesn't serve a purpose yet, and it takes effort to do, but it's a start. Heck, even your mageblade took a lot of effort when you first picked it up, and now you can use it without even holding it.

You're trying to speed up the process of gathering the energy together when someone enters the training yard.

"They told me I'd find you here..." Frederick says. "That was this morning, mind you. Have you been here all day?"

"Yep" You reply, wondering why Frederick's come looking for you. But you figure he'll tell you eventually. "Check this out"

You fire the indirect bolt at the dummy, and Frederick doesn't look all that impressed.

"I'm assuming that wasn't a show of your spellcasting power, though I didn't see any outward signs of spellcraft from you" He says.

"I'm using soul from the air to cast spells indirectly" You say. "It's difficult, but the possibilities are endless"

"Have you eaten today?" He asks.

"I had a big breafast, so I figured I could wait a bit before lunch" You say.

He raises an eyebrow, nodding towards the sky.

...

The sun's going down. How long have yo been at this?

"I was about to peruse the town for eateries. Join me" He says. That didn't sound like an offer or a question, but you're free to refuse either way.

You take a breath, looking around the yard between Frederick and the half destroyed training dummy.

"Sure" You say.

He waves for you to follow him, and heads out of the yard.

"I am told you fought Mahron" He says.

"I did" You say.

"Did you win?" He asks.

"I did" You say again.

"Then I must ask why you feel the need to train so badly that you shrug off everything else" He says. "That is the attitude of a man who has lost, and feels he must become stronger"

"Because I didn't win" You say. "I borrowed power from a place I shouldn't have, otherwise things never would have gone so well"

"And now you hope to become stronger so you don't have to borrow this power" Frederick says. "Tell me about it"

You inform Frederick of the process used to gain the ability to defeat Mahron, and how you hope you don't have to use it again...

"There is a downside to this?" He asks.

"I've lost all the abilities I gained, but I can still feel these other versions of me tugging my brain between them" You say. "They dulled my happiness when Cheska got her heart back, and I feel so much anger whenever I think of fighting Mahron, and I feel lost whenever I have to make a decision"

"These things are hurdles. Overcome them" He says.

"I don't know how" You reply.

"These connections, can you explore them?" He asks.

"I... maybe" You say.

"Try that" Frederick says. "The quickest way to overcome internal troubles is to look within and understand them. If these emotions you have come from without, then discover what fuels them. When you know that, then you can take that fuel away and they will stop burning"

"It's worth a shot" You say with a shrug. "Got any other advice?"

"Take breaks when you train" He says.

"That's... sort of obvious" You say. "I got kinda caught up in what I was doing today, but I usually do"

He shakes his head. "When people keep at the same problems for hours at a time, they tend to try and force the same solutions over and over" He says. "Stop. Step back. Breathe. Eat. Try again. You will have fresh eyes, a new perspective, and will try things you had not considered"

"I'll try that next time" You say.

"Good. On another note, your footwork has gotten sloppy" He says.

"I wasn't really practicing footwork there. Just trying to work my second blade into everything" You say.

"You should always focus on every aspect when you train. It is easier to form good habits than it is to break bad ones" He says.

"Were you watching me?" You ask.

"Only for a short while in the morning" He says. "I did say that was when I was told to find you"

"Why not say something then?" You ask.

"You did not want to be disturbed" He says.

"And how did you know that?" You ask.

"Do you remember seeing anyone else enter the yard?" He asks. "It was not by chance that it stayed empty all day. It was plain even to the common soldier that you wished for some solitude"

"That bad, huh?" You ask. "Maybe I'll have to make my own training area somewhere..."

"I would not go that far. Just try to be more aware of how you appear to others. You are a prince now-

"Yeah, yeah. I'm a prince and a lord and everybody's watching" You say.

"You do not enjoy the scrutiny of the public?" He asks.

"I don't like suddenly not being allowed to do things just because people might think badly of me" You say.

"Then you are more like the King and your uncle than you know" He says.

"My Uncle... his name was Albion, right?" You ask.

"Indeed" Frederick replies. "The middle child, between your mother and the late queen"

"How am I like him?" You ask.

"Albion always resented his position. He liked to fight, but not to kill. He liked to learn, but not to study. He enjoyed the freedoms that being royalty gave him, but the pressure suffocated him" He says. "As a prince, just about every path was open to him... but there were few acceptable places where he could follow them"

You arrive at a small eatery in town, and Frederick waits until you're seated to continue.

"I'm sure you've noticed as well. You can be anythig you want, as long as you're a part of the military, the ruling class, or an institution of respect" Frederick says. "Albion decided to reject it all, and the night after his sister married Dein he disappeared. Most believe he boarded the cross ocean airship under a disguise, but few know for certain"

"And what would you have told him?" You ask.

"Find a release" He says. "Pressure can kill you if you allow it to. It can lead you to do things you may regret. Find what eases you, and indulge yourself from time to time"

"What would you suggest?" You ask. "What do you do?"

"Myself?" He asks. "I read, I take long baths, I hunt, and occasionally take a woman into my bed"

"I've never heard anything about that" You say.

"Nor will you, aside from now. And I ask that you not repeat it" He says. "The woman whose company I enjoy knows how to be discreet, otherwise there would be scandal"

You tilt your head. "Are first knights not allowed to..."

"No" He says.

"Ah..." You say.

"So I find a good looking ninja?" You ask. "I mean, I already read a lot"

"That would not be wise. The only ninja I know of are in the south, and they are notoriously hard to find. Perhaps when you have no pressing duties here" He says.

"That... that was a joke" You say.

"I am aware, and was attempting to build off it" He says.

"Oh... sorry, it's just... you said it with that same serious attitude, so I couldn't be sure" You say.

"There's a reason why I don't have a reputation for being a comedian" He replies. "And as for books, you research. That is not going to relieve anything"

"I don't have the time for that kind of stuff" You say.

"Make time" He replies. "As the sole person capable of destroying the Legion's weaponry, your importance cannot be understressed. If you cannot focus, then you will-"

Frederick stops as a waitress comes by to bring you food, not wanting to continue the tense conversation with her here. She puts a pair of meat pies down on the table. They smell delicious.

He continues as soon as she's gone "If you cannot focus, you will die" He says. "It doesn't matter what you do. Find some way to clear your head"

"I'll... try" You say.

"Good" He says. "Now eat. I'm told the tourtiere here is delicious"

"Tour... whatnow?" You ask.

"Tourtiere" He says.

"Tour-tee-ay" You say. "What is it?"

He picks up his fork and points it down at the small pie in front of him. "This is" He says.

"So it's some kind of... meat... pie?" You ask.

He cuts it in half with his knife and takes a chunk out of the middle with his fork. "Yes" He says.

You poke it a few times. "What's in it?" You ask.

He shrugs as he puts the fork in his mouth. "Depends on what's available"

"Th-they wouldn't put human in this, would they?" You ask. "I mean, as far as availability goes, there's plenty of dead people after the siege-"

"Just eat it" He says.

You cut it open like he did, taking a chunk out of the middle and putting it into your mouth. The crust is salty, like butter, but the meat tastes kinda like... you're not actually sure what it tastes like.

"Are you sure there's no human in this?" You ask.

Frederick squeezes his eyes shut, and calls the waitress back over to ask what's in the pie. She informs you that it's a mix of deer brought in by hunters, and pork from the town's pig farm, as well as potatoes.

"Satisfied?" He asks.

"Is there a problem, my lord?" The waitress asks.

"He is just being overly paranoid" Frederick replies.

"It's a valid concern" You say. "But I'll let it go. Thank you, miss"

The waitress, who appears to be a sort of satyr, blushes and curtsies before heading away.

"So what's with your sudden interest in my well being?" You ask, as you take another bite.

"The King sent me to lend my expertise to the front" He says. "As First Knight my duty is to the King, the Queen, and their children first, the realm second, and other members of the royal family third. The royal family includes you"

"Makes sense" You say.

"And I should add that your survival and mental stability are important to this movement, which makes it beneficial to the realm" He says. "But that's just icing on the cake"

"Cake sounds good... do they serve cake here?" You ask.

Frederick appears to think you're joking for a moment, until you flag down the satyr waitress again.

Apparently they don't normally serve cake here, but she says she'd tell the cooks to make one for you. She seems really nervous about serving you, like you'll decide to have this place demolished if she fails to please.

"Don't worry about it" You say. "Can you recommend a place around here that does serve cake?"

She lists off a few places, but they're all kinda far...

You decide not to bother for now. Maybe you can convince Fran to bake a cake to celebrate Cheska getting her heart back...

"She seems nervous about me..." You say, as the waitress walks away.

"Most would be" He says. "You're their Lord. They don't know your temperment yet, but they've all heard about your ferocity on the battlefield. Most men who are beasts out there tend to stay beasts when they come back. Give it time. Word of your kind nature will spread"

"How did you become First Knight, anyway?" You ask.

"Believe it or not, I was a hostage in the palace when I was younger" He says. "My family rules the Kazui peninsula on the south side of Lubars"

"You mean the chunk of land coming off the bottom of the country where Kazubran is?" You ask, as you take another bite.

He nods. "They rebelled against the crown, hoping to gain independance, or restore... something. Gods I don't even remember anymore" He says. "Needless to say they lost, and after surrendering I was sent to the capital to ensure their good behaviour"

"That... sucks" You say.

"It did, for a time" He says. "But Albion, Altea, and Valerie were always kind to me, and the First Knight at the time decided to train me himself after seeing my own potential. I became strong, and Valerie was forever a close friend. So it was little wonder that, upon her coronation, I was her choice for First Knight"

"So you were trained by the First Knight, and now you're trying to train me..." You say. "Is there something I should know?"

"Daria is rather fond of you, but alas her knight will have to come from elsewhere" He says. "You have duties of your own that are not easily put aside"

"Good to know" You say. "I don't think I could handle your job"

Frederick smiles. "But she did want me to tell you that she misses you, and she's sad she couldn't come" He says.

"Yeah, well... alright, I miss her too, kinda" You say. "Next time you see her, tell her that she could have been here if she wasn't constantly shirking her studies"

He chuckles. "Perhaps I'll do so with a painter nearby. Eternalize her reaction to that for the ages" He says.

"Do it. I'll even hire them for you. Maybe I'll keep that painting in my room" You say. "Anything to be rid of the hundreds of paintings of Graumer..."

"Deal" He says, finishing off the last of his pie. "I shall inform you of when I'll be going back to Leon. Would you like me to choose the painter, or do you have a preference?"

"I'll let you choose" You say. "I'm assuming you know more about painters than I do. Get someone who can really capture that grumpy, pouty face"

Frederick pays the waitress and tips well, then the two of you head out.

"As much as I've enjoyed our talk, I must return to my other duties" He says. "Think on what I've said"

"I will" You reply.

He gives you a firm handshake, and a pat on the shoulder, then heads his own way.

It's a bit too late to go back to training now... you'll have to pick back up where you left off tomorrow. For now you'll head back to the manor and-

You go back to the training yard and grab the Rook, since it's so close by. From there the ride back to the palace, leaving the Rook on the bridge so you can head inside.

Everyone seems to be elsewhere, so you give a friendly hello to the maid at the door and go to the kitchens. There you acquire a wash bucket and a towel, filling the bucket with water and grabbing a meal for your "guest" before heading down t the dungeon.

Raven is in her cell, laying on the floor chucking a rock at the ceiling and catching it as it comes back down.

"Good evening" You say.

"Oh, finally decided to show up?" She asks. "And you brought the bucket. Good boy"

You feel strangely good as she calls you that... there's no way it came from you, so it must have come from the sync. The question is: just why the fuck does hearing her say that make that other you so happy?

"Well, you asked for it..." You say, opening her cell and heading in. "Sit up"

She immediately levers herself up. "And food. Perfect" She says.

You hand her the plate and she digs in. "Have you given any thought to my proposal?" She asks.

"Proposal?" You ask. "What proposal?"

"Forgotten about it already?" She asks. "I was going to teach you not to be such a prude, remember?"

Last post for the night
>>
"Just what would this training entail?" You ask.

"I'll be getting you used to the female body. Easing you into things so your brain doesn't tap out whenever you see boobs" She says.

"My brain does not tap out whenever I see boobs" You say.

She raises an eyebrow, eats another few bits of her meal, licks her fingers, then lifts up her shirt to expose one of her breasts.

You look away involuntarily, and she throws the rock she was tossing around at your head.

"Ow" You say.

"In a fight, that may have been a knife, or an arrow, or a spell" She says. "We've been over this, hun"

"Yeah, yeah" You say. "I get it, now would you put your shirt back on?"

"Of course" She says with a smile.

Raven goes back to eating, leaving you to think about what's happened.

"A trial run, maybe" You say. "If I don't like it, you never bring it up again"

"That goes without saying, doesn't it?" She asks. "You could tell me not to bring it up right now and I'd do it without having to make a deal, and- why do I have to keep reminding you of your hold over me?"

"Maybe you secretly enjoy it" You say.

"Perhaps... I wouldn't put it past me. This Angel's got issue's, baby" She says, as she finishes off her food. "So?"

"So?" You ask.

"We doin' this or what?" She asks.

"Alright... just once" You say.

"Whatever you say, baby" She says. "Now, what to do..."

Her eyes scan the room, settling on the bucket with an interesting smile. She then takes her arms out of her sleeves and pulls her shirt down, revealing the writing still covering her stomach.

"Don't look away" She says. "Wash me"

"I... what?" You ask.

"Wash me" She says again. "No tricks, no attempts at seduction. I'm just going to lay back, and you can wash this writing off my body"

She lays back onto the ground and shuts her eyes, undoing her pants and pulling them down a little as well to give access to the whole message.

You swallow the lump in your throat as you try to decide what you want to do. You can feel that same part of you that jumped for joy when she praised you straining all of your thoughts. You have to hold yourself in place, lest it take over and have you try to lick the ink off.

Your resolve proves strong enough to resist that urge, but not to banish it. You grab the bucket and bring it over, wetting the towel and wringing it out before taking a breath and applying it to the Angel's soft skin.

"Mmmmm... Good. For a second there I thought you were gonna leave me like this" She says, shifting herself and settling back. "And the water's nice and warm, too. I'm pleased"

You feel another surge of elation, and stop wiping as you wrestle control of yourself back from the person trying to steal it. Again you can fight them off, but only enough to keep yourself sane.

You have to figure this out soon. You don't think you can handle much more of this...

You continue working the cloth across Raven's midsection, wiping away the note Terry left written there.

Raven rests her head back on her arms, keeping her eyes closed with a contented smile on her face. She might be enjoying this a bit too much...

But despite the fact that you would rather have said no to this, it's all you can do to appease the bit that's frothing at the mouth for more. It drags every one of your thoughts back to the topless angel, making it impossible to just focus your mind elsewhere so you can get this over with, all the while forcing you to guard yourself against its attempts to throw you at her.

While fighting against all this, your head feels like it's full of syrup. Your thoughts form sluggishly, and there's an odd pain at the back of your head.

When you put your hand on Raven's breast to lift it up so you can wipe off the message underneath, you almost lose the fight. As soon as your hand touches her skin the urge to grab, rub, squeeze, and suck boils your brain, making you violently shake your head just to stay on task.

You roughly wipe away the last bit of ink, chucking the towel into the bin, standing up, and turning away so you can catch your breath.

Your head starts to cool down, and the pain in your neck recedes as soon as you're finished.

Just when you think you might have beaten it, Raven gently hugs you from behind.

"Such a good job. I don't think I've been this clean in a long time" She says. "What say we extend this lesson and you can clean the rest of me off, too?"

Your breath catches in your throat, as your head starts to heat up again. That same, annoying part is screaming 'YES YES YES YES' in your brain, so loudly that you have to bite your tongue so you don't accidentally say it out loud.

"Something wrong? You look a little flushed" Raven says.

"It's nothing" You reply.

"Alright" She says. "So is that a yes, or a no?"

"Nope. I'm good" You say, pushing her hands off of you and stepping away, you turn around and walk backwards out of the cell. "I'm just gonna go do... a thing- wow you're still topless. I don't know why I didn't expect that"

You exit the cell and shut the door. Raven looks confused.

"So just uhh... enjoy the rest of your meal, and I'll be around" You say, pausing at the stairs for a moment, adding "Later" before bolting up and out of the dungeon.

You stop about halfway up, pressing your back into the wall to catch your breath.

That was bad. That was very, very bad. Frederick was right, you need to figure out just who the hell these other versions of you are, and why they're affecting you the way they do.

So you head the rest of the way up the stairs, up and up and up to the roof, stopping briefly to let someone know that you're not to be disturbed while you're up there.

The terrace is empty, and the air up here is nice and cool. You calm yourself down and head to the rail, looking out over Lutain while you get your breathing under control. The lights in town have all come on as the sun sets, and you can see people still out in the streets, even as they're patrolled by coalition soldiers.

"Discover what fuels them, and you can take that fuel away..." You say, repeating what Frederick said earlier. "That might be easier said than done"

There's two connections to explore. You'll get to both eventually, but you'll start with-

The faster "you" was the first one you synced with, so you figure you'll try him first.

...

Now how do you actually do this?

You try meditating on the strange emotions you feel, but get nothing out of it.

"Maybe..." You say, looking down at the city. "Maybe I just run"

You step back, getting a running start and leaping over the railing. You didn't really plan anything past that, but you know you're capable of something. You feel like you haven't really tested yourself lately, you've just been fighting.

The first actual test of your strength in a long time came in the form of Mahron, and what did you do? You didn't strive to beat him. You didn't try to push your limits. You stole strength that didn't belong to you, and now you're paying the price.

You step off of a springboard, making further steps to bring you to the rooftops near the manor instead of the ground. With the leaping start, you quickly gain speed as you dash across the tops of buildings across your town.

The connection with the other you feels stronger now, like it's responding to the wind whistling in your ears. You catch glimpses of a life that isn't yours, faces you've never seen before, and events that never took place.

Your life, your worth... it's all based around how quickly you can move from place to place... but why?

You know there's only one thing that can bring those answers. You need to strengthen the connection, and to do that you need more speed.

You get to the edge of the rooftops and use your springboards to clear the town walls, getting yourself out into the fields surrounding Lutain. Now that you're clear, you start moving energy through the wind emblem to use that same technique you tried on the night of the siege.

Like this you can feel the connection strengthening further. Details become clear, and events are put into sequence.

This "you" diverges from who you've become almost right off the bat, running from the Inquisitors at Bell's run rather than getting knocked out and captured.

He ran, and ran, and ran until he was thoroughly lost and near starved. Then he happened across a camp, full of people who are familiar to you.

You see Carthac, Cheska, the wolf... a Legion camp, probably just before they went to atack Sherton.

He spent the night among them. They fed him and gave him new clothes, then gave him a job as a messenger. It was a job that he took to well.

This version of you spent months running messages for the Legion. He became fast because he was running just about all the time. The Legionnaires respected him for that, even rewarding him with praise, good food, and even sex.

He continued his duty, not knowing much of anything about the world around him, nor what sort of things he was delivering, right up until he was sent to bring something to Mahron.

Mahron took his message, and ordered him killed on the spot.

The connection breaks suddenly, snapping you out of your focus and causing you to stumble. You're moving so fast that you trip and tumble for several feet, landing flat on your back.

He died there. You felt confusion, fear, anger. A million questions left unanswered as his head was removed.

You lever yourself up, giving yourself a quick check to make sure nothing is injured. Now the anger you feel whenever you think of Mahron makes sense. It's a childish sort of anger that makes you want to lash out without purpose.

And now that you know moer about this other "you", you can better control the things he makes you feel.

You might have run a bit far while you were focusing, but luckily you stuck close to the walls. You start jogging back towards the gate, so that you can-

You get back to the gates, and the soldiers on watch look troubled.

"My lord... was that you who jumped over the wall a minute ago?" One of them asks.

"Yep. Just going for a bit of an evening jog" You say.

"O-over the wall?" The other asks.

"I'm very enthusiastic" You say, as you head inside. "Keep up the good work, men"

You head past them and go back to the manor. It takes a little while... maybe you should have stuck to running laps around the building.

"Sir?" The maid at the front door says. It's one of the younger maids, a Canid with big pointy dog ears who looks to be about 13. "I thought you were on the roof"

"I went for a jog" You say.

The maid looks back inside, then at you, one of her ears flops over as her confusion grows. "B-but-"

You put a hand on her head and give her a little pet. Both of her ears flop down and her tail starts wagging.

"You didn't miss me. I went out another way" You say.

"There's another way?" She asks.

"Yes... kinda. I mean, if you count straight off the roof as an exit" You say. "Is the Priestess awake?"

"I believe so" She says, shutting her eyes and enjoying her pets. "She should be in her room"

"Thanks!" You say, giving her head a couple quick pats before heading inside.

You reach Lianna's room, and the Priestess is right where the maid said she'd be. She's sitting quietly, embroidering something into a piece of clothing. There's a teapot on the table with a couple of cups, but none are filled.

"Good evening" You say, as you enter the room.

"Good evening, my lord" Lianna says. She doesn't turn her head to you, but you can tell that she's paying attention to you by the way she's stopped what she's doing. "What brings you here at this hour?"

"I was hoping to talk to you about something..." You say. "Mind if I shut this?"

"Of course" She says, putting the garment aside and sitting up.

You close the door and sit across from her. As always she keeps her eyes closed with a pleasant smile on her face.

"What would you ask of me?" She asks.

"Oh... well... for starters, what were you doing when I came in?" You ask.

Her smile widens slightly, and she grabs the garment she'd put away. "Embroidering the Trinity onto my new robes" She says. "Alice offered to do it for me, but I find embroidery to be a relaxing, rewarding task"

"Isn't it difficult?" You ask. "How do you know you're going straight and stuff?"

She hold up the robe, showing off the work she's already done. The three white lines are perfectly straight, perfectly sized, and perfectly aligned. "I am not without senses, my lord" She says.

"You work by feel?" You ask.

"It is easier with 3 limbs than it would be with 2" She says, her tail swishing about beside her. "But I assume you did not come to talk about embroidery... though if you did I would be happy to indulge"

"No, you're right" You say. "There is something else..."

"Shame... I do love to share my crafts" She says. "Would you like a cup of tea? I'm getting the feeling that this topic might call for it"

"Sure" You say.

She nods, standing up and feeling her way through pouring you both a cup of tea. It's an interesting process to watch, as everything is done by feel. You offer to help, but she says it's fine.

"Now, what troubles you?" She asks once you both have a full cup.

"Well..."

>1/2
>>
She listens quietly as you explain the problems you're facing, taking the occasional sip of her tea, but otherwise remaining focused.

"That is indeed a rather unique problem" She says once you're finished. "At least, I have not had a person come to me for issues with other versions of themself before"

"Here's hoping this is the only time" You say. "It hasn't been fun..."

"So you left the manor in order to learn more about this other Yuu" She says.

"I don't know if I'd call him that... I'm pretty sure he had a different name" You say.

"Did it help?" She asks.

"Kinda... I know why it reacts to different things now, but I don't know how much that will actually help yet" You say.

"Have you tried to trigger it? Find out if it is easier to push back now?" She asks.

"I have not..." You say.

"There is only one way to learn..." She says. "It may be difficult, but I imagine that you would have tried an easy solution by now, yes?"

The only thing we know about speedy Yuu is that he wanted to lash out violently in a tantrum when he thought of Mahron, and may be the one responsible for the lewd streak.

Neither of them are something to try to hone in on to a blind priestess.
>>
>writing

>>2517205
The lewd streak was completely part of her plan.
>>
"Maybe it's worth a try..." You say.

"I'll be right here" She says. "I'm... not sure if that will help, but lean on me if you must"

You take a breath, and turn your thoughts to Mahron. That same rage fills you... but as you thought, it's easier to control. You understand it now. You know why this other you hates Mahron so much...

But he is not you, and you will not let him rule your emotions.

You go through some other thoughts, seeing what sets it off... Cheska doesn't, neither does Carthac... You think of that feeling of being rewarded, and it responds in kind. It feels kinda good... you feel sated, and warm...

You shake your head to try and get rid of the warmth but it sticks like glue. You end up downing your entire cup of tea in one go just to keep focused.

It works... kind of. It's definitely easier to fight off anger and pain than it is to stave off the good feelings. The anger is something that you want to go away, while the warm feelings you can only halfheartedly fight off...

You notice that Lianna is much more appealing than she did a second ago... her lips looking nice and soft, coming away moist as she takes a sip of her tea...

You shake your head again as that train of thought starts to go straight off the rails.

"Is it working?" She asks.

Her sudden concern catches you off guard, and you let out an involuntary yelp. You'd forgotten she was still paying attention to you...

Your reaction surprises her, making her gasp and almost spill her tea. You lean out and hold her hands steady, not wanting her to scald herself because of you.

...

Her hands are nice and soft too... and when you went to grab them you might have gotten a little too close...

Does she always smell like this? It smells kinda good... makes you wanna do... something...

"M-my lord? Is everything okay?" She asks.

This is alright. Vocalizing it may give her a chance to pass some wisdom for suppressing lust.

Downside is that we're not cutting off the lewd feelings at the pass, meaning we're probably going to suffer from the other Yuu's influence for the remainder of this conversation.
>>
>>2517315
But that aint necessarily a bad thing, if we just keep running from these feelings were gonna have to start straight up avoiding women.
>>
>writing
>>
>>2517321
The really big issue right now is we have no real idea of where acceptability lies in relationships, particularly for the nobility. Yuu doesn't know anything and we have no guidance. I'm pretty sure the line is crossed and obliterated from existence if we take Raven up on what she wants us to do, but no idea where it stops before then. Needs to be solved though before a Raven bad end.
>>
>>2517321
It's a risk. Before this point Yuu has had to focus all of his willpower in order to not mount Raven on the spot.

Carrying on a conversation while still a bit hot & bothered may carry a lot of the other Yuu's personality. This could go down a strange road pretty fast
>>
"C-can I be honest?" You ask, as you hand gently carresses the back of hers.

"Always" She replies.

"I think this other version of me had a different sort of interest in women, and it's affecting me worse than I thought it would" You say.

"Ah..." She says, her face still unreadable. She puts her teacup down and takes your hands in hers. "Tell me about it"

She lets you keep touching her hands as you describe the relations the other Yuu had with the women he knew. How it was basically all sexual, and that's making you see women more in that way than you used to. Even a kind, pure woman like her is sparking no small amount of desire in you.

"And how do you feel about women?" She asks.

"Me...?" You ask.

"Yes" She says.

"Well... I think they're cute, and soft, and I like it when they're happy because they all have such nice smiles" You say.

"And before this 'sync'... did you ever think about sex?" She asks.

"I... is that important?" You ask.

"You said yourself that these things are affecting your emotions and views, not creating them" She says. "If we want to understand how your desires are being changed, then we must first talk about what they were in the first place"

"I... I think I get it" You say. "And yeah... I kinda did..."

You tell her about your own desires, how they've never been this strong, but they've always been there. You've always known there was more to do with a girl in bed than snuggle. You've always wanted to touch, kiss, and do other things...

"And yet you haven't" She says.

"No..." You say, still playing with Lianna's hands. "Well, with a few exceptions..."

"What has stopped you?" She asks.

"I dunno... it's another level, isn't it? After you... do something like that, things change. I don't want things to change. I like them the way they are" You say.

Lianna leans in, her tail coming out to feel out the borders of your head as she gives you a kiss on the forehead.

You've calmed down significantly as you've been talking. All of the focus you've been putting on your introspection made it easy to ignore the other 'you's desires as they weakened to a more manageable point. But they have not disappeared... or maybe they have, and this is all you now.

"You're taking this all much more gracefully than I expected... have you had this talk before?" You ask.

"The problem you have might be unique, but its root is something you share with all young men and women" She says. "So yes, in essence"

"That helps..." You say.

"So from what I hear, you have these same desires but you are afraid that acting upon them will change the way things are" She says.

"Yes..." You say.

"It is good that you know how to show restraint, but there is a saying in old Antolian that goes "No bottle can fill forever"" She says. "That is a rough translation, of course. But it essentially means that if you bottle these things up, you will overfill"

"Frederick said the same thing earlier... it was a different topic, but same idea" You say, still feeling Lianna's soft hands. "He suggested I... 'find a woman who can be discreet'"

"I... cannot argue with him" She says.

"I was hoping you might have a different solution..." You say.

"Many people are relying on you for many things, and they will only lean harder in the coming months" She says. "With so many people wanting so much, it would do you a world of good to find a person who is content with just your company. It does not have to be an explicit relationship, just one you can escape to"

"Now I've just gotta find someone like that" You say.

"And I wish you all the luck in the world" She replies.

You take a breath and let go of her hands. The strange warmth has receded to a more manageable degree, and you're having a much easier time thinking clearly.

The desire is still there. Now that you've recognized it, you doubt it will ever go away. But it feels more like it's a part of you now, not some foreign entity. And now that it's like that, it's much easier to control.

Looking across at Lianna, the desire is still there... but you're not fighting tooth and nail against the urge to tackle her where she sits. It's a nice improvement.

>>
"Is that sort of thing... acceptable?" You ask. "Like... if I get married in the future, my possible wife won't be mad?"

"Ahh... so that is your other issue" She says. "You do not know the way other people look at these kinds of relationships"

"I really don't..." You say. "I figured they were kinda taboo, from the way everybody always tiptoed around the subject"

"It is... delicate" She says. "People are not always comfortable talking about these things, but for the most part you are free to... well... enjoy the company of women"

"Even though I'm the lord here?" You ask.

"And that is where it complicates" She says. "You tread the line of scandal in your position. But as Frederick said, you should be fine if you are discreet"

You talk with her about it for a while longer, learning a bit more about the do's and dont's. For something that pretty much everyone does in their life, sex is a very complicated subject...

Maybe the other you had the right idea. Just find a camp full of purple eyed demons and wade into the pile.

...

Not that you could or would do that. By now the Legion knows you, and you can't imagine that they'd just continue their orgy if you were to show up...

"Satisfied?" Lianna asks.

"I think so. Thank you" You say.

"I am always here" She says. "Well... not for long. But when the church is finished you will know where to find me"

"Oh. One more thing" You say. "Are priestesses celibate?"

"We are not allowed to take lives or bear children, but otherwise we are free" She says. "Right now, though, I must get to bed. This has kept me up long past my own bedtime"

"Oh, sorry..." You say.

"Do not apologize. I am merely returning the favor for all you have done for me" She says, as she stands up and places a hand on your cheek. "We can talk more tomorrow, if you'd like"

You stand as well, pulling the priestess into a tight hug. "I'd like that" You say. "And thanks... for everything"

"I am glad you came to me with this, rather than leaving it alone" She says as she hugs you back.

You stand still and enjoy her warmth for a moment, not really wanting to let go, but knowing that you'll have to leave...

With a deep breath you let the priestess go and take a few steps back. You bid her goodnight, thank her again for her help, and leave her to get her rest...

You feel better now, but there's still some unresolved issues... mainly the second version of you that you synced with.

Off hand, you know he had something to do with Raven. It took everything you had to not jump on her after she took off her shirt, and you had to- HAD to please her in some way to appease it.

It was more than simple desire. You've never feltanything like it before, and that makes it dangerous. So you head back up to the roof.

Figuring that running helped you figure out the first one, then focusing on your mageblade will get you closer to the second...

So you pull out your mageblade and get to work.

You let your head go blank and put all of your focus on the blade, feeling the connection grow stronger as you do so.

Once you're inside you decide to go grab a late night snack. There's plenty of fruit in a cooler in the kitchen, so you grab an apple and eat it as you stroll through the halls.

It's a peaceful stroll... right up until Elizabeth comes flying around the corner, completely naked and soaking wet. She tries to slither past you, but you scoop her up at the expense of getting your clothes wet.

"Hey there tiny gal, where the heck did you come from?" You ask.

She wraps around your torso, further soaking your shirt and hiding behind you as a maid comes around the corner.

"Oh, I'm so sorry sir!" The maid says. This is the one with 4 arms, but her name escapes you. "I was trying to bathe her but she freaked out and slipped away..."

"It's no problem. I was about done with this shirt anyhow" You say, taking a bite of your apple.

Liz rattles her tail as the maid comes closer. Just from her body language you can tell that it's not a playful rattle. It's more like a 'get away before I bite you' rattle.

"I can take it from here, if you want" You say, reaching behind you to pat the frightened Serpid on the back. "I could use a bath, and converting bath haters is what I do best"

"Are you sure? I'd hate to trouble you with this" She says.

"I'll be fine" You say. "But, if you want to help... I recall someone saying that you're pretty good with a pen and a brush..."

"I am" She says. "Did you need something painted? A self portrait perhaps?"

"Nah, I'm looking to design a crest for myself" You say.

"I can do that" She replies.

"Cool. I'll talk to you in the morning" You say. "Come on, Liz. Let's go get clean"

"Good luck, sir" The maid says. "She's... kind of a handful"

"Nonsense. I'll get her in there and playing around in no time" You say.

You head off to the baths, staying decent while you change into a bath towel, then pulling your shirt out from under Liz's coils.

When you step into the bath, Liz climbs up your body to keep out of the water.

"You sure you don't wanna come in? It's nice and warm" You say, cupping some in your hand and holding it up so she can see.

Liz's little tongue flicks out, and she touches the water in your hand.

"See? It doesn't bite" You say.

You see her testing it with her tail, looking curious about going further down... until a sudden splash spooks her and she scrambles up on top of your head.

Turning to the source of the splash, you see Madelaine's head pop back out of the water. She shakes her hair off and pulls it back out of her eyes. "Whatup?" She asks.

"You scared Liz" You say.

She looks up on top of your head. "Ohhhhhh... I was wondering who you were talking to" She says. "Sorry kid. Didn't see you there"

You sigh and start trying to coax Liz down from your head. "So what were you up to today?" You ask. "I didn't see you at all"

"That's because I didn't go to the training yard" She says, as she leans back into the edge of the bath. "I was hangin' out with Storm and Michaela. They came here as part of the group the Holy Order sent"

"Storm's here? Why hasn't he come and said hello?" You ask.

"He doesn't think you like him" She says.

"Whaaat? Why would he think that?" You ask. "We bonded over at the stronghold. I thought we were friends..."

"Tell him that" Madelaine says, stretching out and putting her arms behind her head. "So what's up with you, grindin' things out over at the 'yard all day?"

"Just working through some frustrations" You say, finally getting Liz to come down and test the water. "I had to have the sex talk like twice today, and between them I explored the life of an alternate version of myself"

"See it sounded like something completely normal, then it just went way off" She says. "What was that like, anyway?"

"Weird" You say. "He was me... we both came out of that same cave, but we went different ways after that. He started running massages for the Legion and having lots of sex with promiscuous demons until Mahron had his head chopped off, and I'm... me"

Liz splashes the water a few times, before climbing lower down your torso to dip most of her lower half in.

"See? What did I say. Not so bad, right?" You ask.

Liz splashes you.

"Have you ever gotten the sex talk?" You ask, as Liz starts playfully splashing water everywhere.

"Ooooooh yeah" She says. "I got it like 5 different times from 4 different people with 7 different messages"

"How does that work?" You ask.

"Well first Meyu tried... and failed. The gist of his talk was 'I'll gut any boy that touches you'" She says. "Then Gerard gave it a go, but Gerard is Gerard so that failed because he's a manwhore. Then the woman I walked in on Gerard with felt so bad for him that she explained it to me. Then Meyu tried again. Then I finally got it in a way that made some sense from Zaine"

"Zaine does seem like the sensible one in that group... maybe I should talk to him too" You say.

"He's been a good father figure" She says. "I'm sad that he's been away from his own family for so long, but glad to have him here"

Liz gets confident enough to leave you and try to swim. Like Emi she seems to be a pretty strong swimmer, but she quickly starts to struggle and you have to pull her out.

"There, there, Liz. We'll teach you how to swim properly one of these days. For now just stick close, okay?" You say.

Liz does just that, clinging to your torso out of fear. The fear passes quickly though, and she's back to playing.

"So what's up with you that you're actually going out looking for people to give you the talk?" Madelaine asks.

"I dunno... I like girls, but there's apparently a lot I don't understand" You say.

"Ah..." She says. "Yeah, I know that feeling. Seems kinda pointless now though. Not like I could ever 'explore the blah-blah-blah' given that every eligible guy I know is spoken for..."

You tilt your head.

"Well Derrick's with Marybell now, and Storm's with Michaela" She says.

"Storm and Michaela? Really?" You ask.

"Yup" She says. "It was actually kinda annoying... they were all lovey-dovey when I was hangin' out with them. Like I get it, you guys love each other. But do you think you could dial it back a bit?"

"Huh..." You say. "I wonder when that happened"

"Who knows" She says with a shrug. "I haven't seen them since..."

"Since the stronghold?" You ask.

"Nah. They were in Leon. I went to visit them before I left for the Hunter's camp" She says.

"Oh yeah" You say. "Heyyyy. I was in Leon for months!"

"Tsk tsk, and you never went to visit him once?" She asks.

"I'm a prince. He should have visited me" You say.

Liz splashes you, and you shake off your hair and give her a stern look. She just giggles silently and goes back to playing.

You sigh. "So Derrybell's official now, huh?" You ask.

"Sounds like it" She says. "Also, Derrybell? Really?"

"It works" You say "Or would you prefer... uhh... Merrick?"

Madelaine snorts. "They're dating, Yuu, not trying to take over the world with trading cards" She says.

"Really? Because there's already a shadow realm for them to banish people to" You say.

Madelaine starts laughing, and you join her. "I love that neither of us knows what the hell we're actually talking about, but we understand it all the same" She says.

"I don't know about you, but I get the feeling that we'll both be disappointed once we actually do understand" You say. Liz is done playing now, and she curls up in your arms and goes to sleep. You should probably take that as your cue to get out...

"Yeah... it'll probably just be something stupid" She says. "It'd be nice to understand though..."

"One day" You say. "Once the Legion is done, we'll hit the rest of the ruins, crack open that portal, and see what waits on the other side"

Madelaine whines. "But I wanna go nooooowwwwwww..." She says.

You chuckle. "I'm gonna hit the hay. You comin'?" You ask.

She raises her eyebrow with a sly smile. "Inviting me into your bed?" She asks. "Awfully forward of you"

Madelaine lets out a breath. "I'm not interested in cuddling" She says. "I just spent all day with the holy couple, having entire conversations with them while they were this fucking close to making out"

"Yikes" You say. "Get a room, right?"

"Right?" She asks. "Anyway, I am ready to ex-fucking-plode right now. If you're serious about this, like really serious, then know that I ain't cuddlin', and I sure as hell ain't sleepin' anytime soon"

You swallow, suddenly feeling very nervous.

"So yeah... that was probably TMI, but that's the deal" She says. "Serves me right for not sayin' anything, what do you say there? 'Hey, you mind not suckin' each other's faces while I'm sitting right here'?"

"Something like that..." You say.

She waves you off, and starts to get out of the bath. "You had to be there..." She says.

"Where are you off to?" You ask.

"Bed" She says. "I'll probably go scream into my pillow for a while, then... who knows?"

You watch Madelaine head to the lady's room and take a breath. It kinda sounds liek she's having the same problem that you are...

You could... help each other out. That's what friends do, right?

Kind of odd to put it this way, but I kind of feel like we have too close a relationship to mess with it this way when it's not really serious.

Adding a few things since I have time. Had to rush earlier as my window is really narrow for these overnight events.

>>2517943
I'm kind of on the fence about Madeline's emotional involvement. The shared history at tower and so forth leads me to believe we are opening up a box that should not be open if we aren't serious about doing it. I'm still in the camp of if we're going to do something casual, we should go with someone where we are not doing harm. Someone who has no particular expectations that we will not be leading on with it. I think it's a really bad idea to sleep with anyone on the waifu list unless we are pretty serious about her.

>>2518126
Cheska's feelings will never be resolved until routelock and I am honestly disinclined to involve Fran in this given her close connection to Cheska. We're way better off with neutral parties to discuss issues we have. I pushed to discuss this with the priestess earlier for a very deliberate reason (aside from her being a viable non waifu option herself). She has no one in this fight. Everyone else is biased and will be upset if their person loses.

You know, I think I might actually be changing my mind closer towards 'no'. I'd be more inclined to stay with my original 'yes', but...it feels wrong to do this kind of thing while Yuu isn't 'completely' himself. Him being affected by another Yuu makes me kind of iffy on it now. It's a little like him being a little drunk, in that his mindset isn't what it typically would, and should, be.
Sure, they might both be horny teens, but it'd probably be best to save it for when one of them isn't under mind-altering effects.

"Last chance" She says, looking back before going into the lady's room.

"I'm good... sorry" You say.

"Your room's next to mine, right?" She asks.

"Y-yeah... why?" You ask.

"Then I'm sorry too... in advance" She says, leaving before you can ask what she means.

You shrug it off and get out, heading to the men's room to dry both yourself and Elizabeth off. You get yourself dressed again, then wrap Liz in a towel and head out into the hall.

The four-armed maid who was on Liz duty is waiting out there for you.

"There you are, sir" She says. "You actually managed it..."

"It was pretty easy" You say, handing off the tiny snake. "And now she's all clean and ready for bed"

"Thanks... trying to wash her without getting soaked was just not working..." She says, as she lets the Serpid wrap around her arm.

"See, there's your problem" You say. "You've gotta bathe with her. Otherwise she'll think something is wrong. If you're in the water, then it's obviously not so bad"

"It sounds simple in hindsight, but at the time I was just trying to get it done..." She says

The maid thanks you and heads off, letting you head to your room. Once you get there you throw on your pajamas and hit the bed.

You don't think sleep will be coming easily tonight, but you'll give it a shot...

...

What is that noise?

...

Oh gods... you can hear Madelaine grunting and groaning from the other side of the wall. Is this what she apologized about?

You try to ignore it, and fail miserably. If she hadn't told you how she was feeling then you probably wouldn't react to this... but she did, and it's very hard not to picture what she might be doing over there.

"God damnit..." You say.

You groan and cover your ears with a pillow, trying your best to tune out the noise and the imagines that come with it.

It's difficult.

It's very difficult.

But eventually you start to drift off, letting go of the pillow that you've been holding tight over your ears...

"Ungh! Fuck! Fuck! Come... on!" Madelaine cries.

She sounds frustrated... about as frustrated as you are having to listen to this while you're trying to sleep. With a sigh, you get out of bed and go out into the hall. You decide to grab a midnight snack, then maybe find somewhere else to sleep.

When you get to the kitchens you fix yourself a sandwich, grab a glass of water, and head to the tea room. Normally you'd eat in the dining hall, but the tea room has comfier chairs.

It seems you're not the only one who had that idea. Gerard is here, reading a book and sipping something from a cup.

You decide not to disturb him, taking a seat by the window and biting into your sandwich.

"Well if it isn't the prince himself" He says, looking up from what he's reading. "What brings you here at this hour?"

"Can't sleep" You say.

"Been there" He says, taking another deep sip.

"What is that... tea?" You ask.

Gerard swallows and takes a breath. "Kurn" He says.

"Corn?" You ask.

He shakes his head. "Koo-roll the 'R'-n" He says. "Kurn"

"Koorn... Kurn... what is it?" You ask.

"Very alcoholic" He says. "I keep a bottle of it in Betsy, have a couple sips whenever the night gets rough"

"Is it good?" You ask.

"It's an acquired taste, like most alcohol" He says. "I'd offer you some... but it's expensive and I don't have much left"

"That's fine. Last time I tried alcohol I got a wicked headache the next morning" You say.

"Oh?" He asks.

"Partied with some northerners" You say. "And I had to fight in the tournament that day too..."

"With the northerers? Ooo boy, that was your first mistake" He says. "I've met children from the north who could drink me under the table"

"Yeah. I learned that the hard way..." You say.

"So why can't you sleep?" You ask.

"You really wanna know?" He asks.

"I wouldn't have asked..." You reply.

"It's because the redhead in the next room never learned how to masturbate" He says. "Gods be damned, that girl doesn't know what a lost cause feels like..."

"So you're on the other side of that, huh?" You ask.

"Ah, a kindred spirit" He says. "Any idea what's gotten into her?"

"Apparently spending the day around Storm and Michaela was a bit too much" You say.

Gerard nods. "I told her she should have brought me along. I could tell the words 'get a room' would need to be said just by lookin' at those two" He says. "When did you hear about that?"

"In the baths" You say. "She was pretty frank about it all. Even offered to uhh... let me uhh... join her..."

"Did she?" Gerard says. "So what are you doing here?"

"I... didn't really want to" You say. "I mean, I did want to... I just didn't think it was proper"

Gerard takes a sip. "Alright, kiddo. I'm gonna give you one piece of advice. Man to man. Propriety is a bunch of bullshit" He says. "Nobody is gonna thank you for staying squeaky clean and never touching a vagina until your wedding day. Trust me"

"Well that's..."

"Trust me" He says again. "What they will thank you for is havin' some actual experience, and not going stir crazy from keepin' it in your pants"

"I'm not going crazy..." You say.

"Says the guy who spent the whole day wailing on training dummies" He says. "You're a man now, kid. You've fought the fights, you've faced death, and you've killed more than your fair share of people. It's time you learned to live like a man off the battlefield, too"

"I'm still not really sure..." You say.

"Come on, man" He says, whining a little. "Take one for the team. Please. I swear if I have to listen to that silly girl fail to get off one more fuckin' time I'm gonna fashion a bag full of wooden cocks, bust down the door and start throwing them at her until one hits the mark"

"I... kinda want to see that, actually" You say.

He holds up a hand, which turns green as a wooden shaft appears in his hand. It molds and transforms until it's roughly the shape and size of a penis...

"That was quick" You say. "Do you make wooden penises often?"

"I like to throw them at people when they piss me off" He says. "It's a light wood so it doesn't hurt. Most of the pain comes from the humiliation of it"

You nod your head, as Gerard brings his hand back and tosses the wooden penis at your head.

"Hey! What the heck?" You ask.

"Your prudishness is costing me sleep" He says.

"I'm not being a prude" You say.

"You already said that you did want to help the poor girl out, because holy shit does she ever need help" He says. "I'm dying here, man. I got shit to do tomorrow, and I don't have anywhere near enough Kurn to make me pass out"

"Alright, alright. You don't have to cry" You say. "I'll... check in on her-"

"Thanks kid" He says.

"But I make no promises"

"Just... do something" He says. "Convincing her to go to sleep already will do. Just as long as she stops making so much noise"

You finish off your sandwich and down the rest of your water. Then you pick up the wooden penis and toss it back at Gerard, before heading back to the bedrooms.

You stop at Madelaine's door and take a breath. You can hear muffled groaning coming from inside as you give it a knock.

...

The door comes open at the slight force, meaning it was never really closed in the first place. You spot her wet towel from the baths on the floor, along with a trail of water leading to her bed. She must have just not bothered getting changed at all.

Then you look on the bed, and get the most intriguing feeling. You want to look away, but you also want to keep watching... Madelaine is naked, with her face jammed into her pillow and her butt up in the air. One of her hands lays limply on the bed, while the other clumsily plays with her privates. The pillow is what's muffling her groans, and she sounds more desperate now than she did earlier...

She seems completely oblivious to your presence, and you could back out now with no consequence. But you didn't come here to back down...

As you approach, her groans turn to cries and the movement of her hand becomes more and more furious.

"M-madelaine?" You call out.

She stops what she's doing and turns her head, looking over at you with one wide eye as the rest of her face is still stuck into the pillow. Her hair is an absolute mess, and her body is covered with sweat.

Despite your efforts to keep your head cool and your body calm, both of those things do exactly what you were hoping they wouldn't.

"Yuu" She says. "What are you doing here?"

You cross the rest of the distance and gently put a hand on her back. "I'm here to help" You say.

She takes a couple deep breaths. "Really?" She asks.

You swallow and nod.

She slides her legs down and lets herself sink to the bed, still staring at you with one eye. "Take off your clothes" She says, her voice still breathless.

Part of you feels indignant at being ordered around, making you want to bite back. But that part is-

Oh, there go your pants. Guess it wasn't as strong an urge as you thought. Your shirt goes next, and you feel a twinge of impatience at having to undo all these buttons.

Madelaine chews on her fingers as she watches you, her eyes locked on your stiff privates. The desire is plain on her face, even as her hips start to squirm.

You feel more confident than you thought you would right now. Normally if you were nude in front of a girl like this you'd be hunched over trying to cover yourself. But you stand tall, hands at your sides, letting her take it all in.

It's... kinda nice, actually. You feel like you don't need to suppress yourself. You don't need to fight your urges. You don't need to keep playing the boy. All the things you want to do... you can just do them.

You decide that tonight you're going to cut loose. You'll probably have to apologize to Gerard in the morning... maybe grab him another bottle of that Kurn stuff to make it up to him.

But that's all tomorrow. Right now there's a redhead staring at your privates with hungry eyes, and you mean to satisfy her.

>Will be writing up a smutbin. Continuing with main thread now.

>About two hours later.

Madelaine lets out one last, lustful moan, then collapses onto you like a puppet with its strings cut. The impact hurts, but you're so burnt out that it barely registers.

"You good?" You ask.

"Yeah... I'm good" She replies, still completely out of breath. "I am... very good. You?"

"Yeah" You say.

She rolls off to the side, laying down next to you. "Cool" She says, limply waving you off. "Now get out"

"What? Really?" You ask.

"Yes" She says. "I wanna sleep, and I told you I'm not into snugglin'. Plus it would be awkward as hell if someone saw you leaving here in the morning"

"Good point" You say, grunting as you sit up and search for your pajamas.

When you sit down to pull your pants up, you feel Madelaine running a finger down your back.

"I thought you were done" You say.

"I am" she replies. "But like... I could do that again, though. Not tonight... but... some other time"

"I thought I was just 'adequate'" You say with a smug grin.

"Adequate is good" She says. "Adequate gets you were you wanna go. It doesn't stop short, or make it hurt to walk the next day... I could use a little more adequate"

You chuckle as you put your shirt back one, putting a hand on her shoulder and laying her back down so you can kiss her goodnight.

"Maybe" You say.

She tugs your collar and pulls you back down, giving you a quick, hard, deep kiss, before releasing you, trailing saliva between your mouths as she shoves you off. "Alright. Now get out" She says.

You wipe your mouth and step back, buttoning up your shirt before heading to the door. By the time you reach it, Madelaine's already sleeping. You're not far behind either, passing out almost as soon as your head hits your own pillow...

You awaken pleasantly the next morning, feeling refreshed and ready despite how late you were up last night.

Unlike yesterday, you quickly hop out of bed and throw on some clothes, before stepping out into the hall to go and grab some breakfast.

You don't know what you'll do today. You know you want to spend some more time working on that casting technique. Maybe you could convince Frederick to help you improve your swordsmanship as well.

You also need to talk with your mom about some stuff. Then you'll have to go chew Storm out for not stopping in to say hello.

Along with that you're interested in checking out the siege engine the Legion built, maybe doing some more Soul device work with Gretchen...

...

Okay. You apparently didn't have time to be wailing on training dummies all day yesterday, if this is the amount of stuff you want to get done. But then you didn't feel like doing any of that stuff back then...

Were Gerard and Frederick right? Is this all because of what you decided to do last night?

You'll definitely set some time aside to ponder that question. There's no way all of this energy can be attributed to just that...

When you reach the dining hall, you see that there's only a few other people here... A few maids, Elizabeth, Robin, Gerard, Zaine, Daisy...

You step over and sit down with your maids, deciding to get to know some of them a bit better this morning.

It also gives you a good chance to pet the heck out of Robin, a chance that you take. There's no empty seats by the maids, so you scoop the Canid up and take hers, letting her rest in your lap.

"How's it goin' this morning?" You ask them.

"Very good, sir" One of them says. "You're awfully chipper today"

"I just feel like it's gonna be a good day" You say, scratching Robin between the ears. "Isn't that right?"

Robin's tail wags, and she lets out a little bark. Then she looks a little embarrassed, so you give her a big hug.

"What's on the agenda for today?" You ask the maids.

"We're still moving things around for the renovation" One of them says. This one is an insectoid, but you haven't got her name... "Have you gotten a chance to check things out since you awoke?"

"I have not" You say. "Have things changed?"

"Quite a bit" The insectoid replies. "We have a play room now, as well as a few extra bathrooms... we were hoping to knock out the lab soon, but the scholars are still using it"

"They won't be down there forever, so just keep up the good work" You say.

As you talk, more people come into the dining hall. Fran and Lily come in first to join Daisy, then Meyu sows up, then Derrick, and then Madelaine...

You make eye contact with her as she walks in, suddenly feeling kind of awkward... what should you do?

"Hey Madelaine, do you smell that?" You ask.

She raises an eyebrow at you. "Smell what?" She asks as she sits down.

You sniff the air. "Smells like... updog" You say.

Madelaine rolls her eyes, but the maid next to you stats sniffing too. "I don't smell anything... what is updog?" She asks.

"Oh my god..." Madelaine says, planting her face on the table.

"Nothin' much. What's up with you?" You ask, giving the maid the finger guns.

The maid looks confused, as Madelaine starts to laugh. "You're so laaaaaaame" She says.

You chuckle and go back to your conversation, letting the maid know that 'updog' is a bit of an inside joke...

Breakfast passes pleasantly, without any of the awkwardness you were worried about. Even so, you keep an ear on the conversation between Madelaine and Gerard... just in case. Thankfully Gerard knows how to keep a secret, not even mentioning anything about last night. Not how Madelaine kept him up, nor your conversation, or how the two of you probably kept him up for a bit after that...

You definitely owe him something for that...

Whe you're finished eating, you let Robin go with the rest of the maids and head your own way. Plenty to do today, but you'll start by-

You find Gerard as he's heading out of the manor, and catch up with him.

"Good morning" You say.

"And what a morning it is" He replies. "How ya feelin'?"

"Better" You say. "Thanks... for the advice"

"I won't lie, man. That was mostly for my own sake... not that it actually worked, but at least the two of you got something out of it" He says. "I'll be on my fifth cup of coffee by noon, I imagine, but that beats the hell out of dealing with a grumpy Madelaine..."

"I'll make it up to you somehow" You say. "Maybe get you another bottle of that Kurn stuff"

"I get that through my own channels... and you probably shouldn't bring it up here because it's actually not the most legal beverage in Lubars" He says. "But if you're lookin' to buy me some booze I hear that the Uliar falls wineries had a great year. Maybe grab me a couple bottles for my cellar..."

"You have a wine cellar?" You ask.

"Of course. I'm a classy guy, you know" He says. "You didn't even know I had a house, did you?"

You shake your head.

"That's fair. I don't go back there all that often... or ever" He says. "Mostly because it's deep in Legion territory, but also because I don't like the place all that much"

"You're Antolian?" You ask.

"Born and raised" He replies. "Believe it or not, Graumer and I are related. It's a distant relation, but close enough to be relevant"

"How so?" You ask.

"We shared a... great... great grandfather?" He says. "Iffy on the details, but you get the idea"

"So your family is noble?" You ask.

"Where is your house, anyway?" You ask.

He gets you to pull out your map, and points out a spot that's close to the Antolian southwest coast.

"It's got a ton of names, ranging from funny in a depressing way, to just depressing" He says.

"Like what?" You ask.

"Sand drinker's Valley... Death Valley... Bone valley... It's a hot, sandy shithole of a place, but it's home" He says, folding the map back up and giving it to you. "Ohh! And there's another one in Old Antolian that's pretty good. It's something like 'drowned man's valley', because when it does rain, it pours, and people in the lowlands have drowned in the past"

"Wow" You say. "How pissed would you be if you got back and the Legion drank everything?"

"Not as mad as you'd think" He says. "I didn't leave much behind, and Demons are notorious for being heavy weight drinkers. There might not have even been enough to get one drunk"

"So why collect wine for a cellar?" You ask.

"For when I settle down in Otuna" He says. "I've got a girl back there now, you know"

"Evie?" You ask.

He nods. "I'm not set to retire just yet, but once we're done out here I'll strip the old place bare and bring everything to Otuna" He says. "Maybe narrow my job field so I'm not all over the place"

"Have you been back there since we visited during the rebellion?" You ask.

"Of course. I spent 4 months there while everybody else was off doin' their own thing" He says. "What. You didn't think I'd just up and commit after a one night thing, did you?"

"I thought you went to the Hunter's camp" You say.

"Nope" He replies. "I stayed in Otuna, helped out around the town. There is a serious lack of manpower out there... I get why, but stil... it's one thing to need a standing guard, it's another when the town needs some muscle and nobody's got it"

"You going back again anytime soon?" You ask.

"First bit of R&R I get" He says. "Since we're going down the Lubrian coast, we'll be nice and close, too"

"Maybe I'll come along too" You say. "I've been meaning to go back there and see Namaki"

"There's room in my cart, but just know that I ain't gettin' on that Rook with you" He says. "It's a good vehicle, but it's lacking... personal space"

"I get you" You say. "I mostly only ride with girls anyway"

"I noticed" He says.

You arrive at the barracks, which surprises you. You had no idea you were actually going somewhere. You figured you were just kinda walkin' and talkin'.

"What are we here for?" You ask.

"I'm here to get orders for the crew. You just knda followed me" He says.

Gerard goes to the mail spider's desk and waves to her. "Looking fuzzy as ever, Veronica" He says.

"Oh, stop" The mail spider... Veronica, you guess her name is, says. "What brings you here?"

"I thought I'd just drop in and admire you for a bit" He says.

"So it's not for this order slip?" Veronica asks.

"Alright, you got me" He says.

Veronica smiles and hands him the paper, which he opens and reads...

"Yadda yadda blah blah... assembling for a march to bring down a newly constructed Legion outpost before it can be reinforced" He says. "Sounds fun. Thanks Veronica"

"See you later~" Veronica says, turning her 8 eyes to you. "Oh! Prince Yuu. There's something here for you as well"

You tilt your head. "Who from?" You ask. "Otuna?"

"No... It doesn't have an address" She says. "Just this eye"

"Well... I guess I'll dig into this later" You say. "Thanks, Veronica"

"Just doing my job" She says.

"And a very fine job it is" You say, watching Veronica blush as you head off to see Altea.

You say bye to Gerard along the way, as he's gotta go back to the manor. You thank him again for his advice, and go your separate ways.

On the way to Altea's office, you crack open the letter.

It starts off with a simple statement "I am the cyclops".

You remember hearing something about them being a new head honcho in the resistance... you read further.

It goes on to say that Stella is safe in Resistance hands, and will remain safe as long as the Legion believes she is dead. Then the cyclops apologizes for the actions of their people on the night of the siege.

"About time..." You say.

Then it gives you a location for a meeting. A clearing near the Legion outpost that they somehow know your army is going to attack today. They don't tell you to come alone... in fact they advise that you bring friends if it makes you more comfortable.

The letter ends by stating a desire to become allies with the coalition, and that opening communication is the first step towards that...

The eye symbol is drawn again at the bottom of the page, and you look up from the letter as you arrive at Altea's office. You knock on the door, and enter when she tells you to.

"Good morning, Comomder" You say.

"Good morning, Yuu" She replies. "What have you got there?"

"News" You say, placing the letter on the table in front of her. "So I hear we're attacking an outpost?"

If I had to speculate it'd come down to Mahron's personality more than anything else. He seems to be keen keeping information about him as hidden as possible in case his companions decide to defect. He's probably killed every single messenger who delivered something to him so far. Fast Yuu was just another corpse to the pile.

>>
>>2520577
>>2521193
I actually noticed the revote issue and thought to myself that it was not really a good thing to do, but I was not upset by the result as it seemed clear there was an implicit contract it wouldn't interfere with the waifu selection too much as we said no in the critical vote. It also made reasonable sense at this point in the story, so I didn't have a narrative problem.

That said, I really do think we get too many revotes that are too similar, Smiley. I don't assign any ill intent to this, as you are really fairly permissive, but I have noticed this before. Most recently and most relevant to this were the Raven choices. It started to make sense with mageblade Yuu coming out, but until then I thought Raven was getting pushed very hard - a lot harder than girls who are significantly more liked in and out of character - and I didn't get why. If we are going to keep circling around to the same general options, I think it would help if you showed a bit more why we were. "Are you really sure" choices, whether for or against, are not really a good thing outside of limited circumstances.

In this particular scenario, I also think we could have had other options in which girl to pursue. It kind of seemed like we were getting pushed towards one girl at a time and then moving on to next. Raven and Madeline were hardly the only two girls in close proximity who have been after Yuu lately. It seemed like our options were very narrow though.
>>
I feel like we got railroaded into fucking Maddy.

More information was supplied later on which changed how the character approached the situation. The subsequent votes could have prevented it on several occasions, but they were consistently for it.
You should have been more involved in the actual session, I guess, my dude.
Besides that, it's mega easy to samefag over long periods of time, and there's a ton of 1 post ip's on the longer vote.
>>
>>2522597
Probably half or a third are actual Europeans, the rest I'm sure are people who used the wifi at work or school.

>>2522588
Not really, could have voted No at any of those prompts and it would have been stopped. The big vote was hardly legitimate so I think it is fair that he pulled an "are you sure", because honestly, the people who actually show up to play should have the final word.
>>
>>2522597
>>2522618
Idk guys. I feel like the big vote should have been the final say on the matter. But you all are right in questioning the legitimacy of it. As long as the relationship between the two doesn't drastically change and effect the others I don't really give shit, Yuu finally got some puss.
>>
>>2522964
I dunno, I'm inclined to give preference to more active members within a community, personally. But that's an opinion of mine that extends past just quest voting. I don't expect others to share the same thoughts on the matter.
>>
>>2522974
As someone who is active in the threads, one problem for everyone with not doing overnights is that some of these major votes are really, really, late at night. The last Madelaine vote was at 2:30 AM in Smiley's own time zone and 4:30 AM in mine. This was with session start of 5:00 PM / 7:00 PM. Maybe it would be better to go "Next session starts with a big vote" and do it then? Then people out of time zone could set their alarms or stay up a little late at least if they really care. I don't really want to kick people out completely who have no other choice but to check late. Also make it easier on those of us who have to go to bed.
>>
>>2523157
Definitely better to start the session with them even if it excludes us who are in the wrong timezone, but we're generally excluded all the time already. I understand wanting to let everyone in on them but you see this in every quest with a decent to large player base. It's easy to hide a tree in a forest after all. Small quests don't really see it because it is immediately suspicious when you go from 5 to 50 players.
>>
"The resistance wants to meet" Altea says. "You think it might be a trap?"

"I wouldn't rule it out" You say. "But it's near the outpost, so I can take a small group and go see"

"So you're in for the attack?" She asks.

"Wouldn't miss it" You say.

"Good. I was hoping you'd be up to the task, but I didn't know if you'd want to go. I'd heard you had some... problems yesterday" She says.

"All solved... mostly" You say. "I'm still having a couple post-sync issues, but I'll be working those out later"

"Sync?" She asks.

"Oh yeah, you haven't seen me since I woke up..." You say. "So what happened the night of the siege is called a sync, apparently..."

You tell Altea about what you did, and how it's affecting you.

"And apparently the really fast version of me ran messages for the Legion and had... a lot of sex" You say. "Which is why I've been so out of touch lately. But I've talked to Frederick, and Lianna, and Gerard, and I should be good to go now"

"And what about the other one?" She asks.

"Haven't had a chance to explore that line, and I don't really feel comfortable doing it on my own" You say. "I know he had something to do with Raven, so someone else will have to start bringing her meals..."

"I'll see to it" She says.

As for the criticism on the Madelaine vote, I tend to push these things when there should be some internal conflict. Even if "Yes" had ended up winning the original vote, there would have been plenty of chances to turn back, since Yuu himself would still be unsure. But if you guys don't like it, then I'll draw up another way to stir things up.

>>2523207
>>2523157
Is a solid idea. I'll start doing things that way whenever there's a big vote.

But when that happens I'll be using the old /tg/ final destination rules. And that means votes like >>2517940, >>2518124, >>2518216, and >>2518023 won't be counted. I appreciate the participation, but when there's that many votes you really have to keep things organized. I almost considered counting it that way this time, but I thought it would be unfair as I didn't state that those would be the rules.
>>
>>2524132
I liked how you handled the internal conflict just fine, if that's your reasoning on it
>>
>>2524132
I don't know as there's necessarily a problem with what you're actually doing so much as how it is presented. There's also a difference between in character decisiveness and voter decisiveness, though I'm not sure how to address that admittedly. The problem is how your flag system counts things is a real black box , and people don't like thinking that their vote got overruled with no impact. You'll note there was fair debate on the actual ramifications of how it played out. It may have been a lot of needless worry in the end.
>>
"I think Raven might have gotten that weird brain control boon into the second version of me" You say. "It felt... oddly good when I tried to connect with him. Like my head had been cleaned out and refilled with warm syrup. And that scares me"

"So don't go down that route" She says.

"I feel like I have to" You say. "Frederick was right. Knowing what these feelings are and how they affect me will help conquer them. I've already overcome one other Yuu, but I'll need help for the second"

"Do you need me for anything?" She asks.

"Nah. I'll probably get somebody to watch over me, maybe strap me to a chair too or something" You say. "Just to make sure I don't do anything dumb after I go under"

"Alright... but let me know if you do need anything" She says.

"I could use your perspective on something... kinda personal..." You say. "Have you... I mean, did you... uhh... when you were my age..."

"You want to know about... that" She says. "Give me one moment"

Altea goes over to the door, saying something to the guard posted outside, before shutting it and coming back in.

"What do you want to know?" She asks.

"Well I know you never ended up marrying... but did you ever have any boyfriends?" You ask.

"I was never a very approachable girl. Most who tried to court my favour were either too dumb to be intimidated, or..." She trails off.

"Or...?" You ask.

She pauses and looks for the right word, until finally- "My type" She adds with a smirk. "If you're wondering whether or not I ever took a lover to bed, let that settle in for a moment"

It was basically just a situation where Yuu had a lot of steam building up in his head that he needed to let off. Meanwhile he'd built sex up to be this big deal since everyone was so iffy when it came to talking about it, but in the end it's not.

For those asking why Madelaine was pushed, it's both because of her offer and because no one else was really available, at least not not in that way. He couldn't and wouldn't have brought this to Cheska because he's not an idiot. Even though he'd have trouble putting it into words he knows that Cheska would want him to commit, and he's just not ready for that. He says that in a way when he talks to Lianna.

"Well... he did say that purity was bullshit" You say.

"And he was right, whoever he was... I'm assuming Gerard?" She asks.

"Uhh... yeah actually" You say.

"My son, you have far too many concerns already for someone your age" She says. "Don't add more to the pile"

"Oh, I didn't" You say. "I did say I dealt with it"

She raises an eyebrow. "So?" She asks.

"So...?" You reply.

"Come on. Who was she?" She asks.

"S-seriously?" You ask.

She shrugs. "I've been dealing with orders and reports for the last week, Yuu. I need something to break the monotony" She says.

"Oh... promise you won't tell?" You ask.

"Of course I won't" She says.

"It was... Madelaine" You say.

"Really" Altea says, looking mildly surprised. "I didn't think she was your type"

"I'm not really sure if I have a type... I mean, I do. But that's not important" You say. "Is that sort of thing okay?"

"What... sex?" Altea asks. "Of course it is. You're a prince, not a monk. Do what you want"

"Alright..." You say.

"But do try to keep it quiet... oh, and also try not to father any bastards" She says. "My great grandfather did that, and we were still dealing with the uppity pricks whe my sister ascended to the throne..."

"What's that about?" You ask.

"Well, as I said my Great Grandfather had a mistress... a woman who stayed in his tent with him while he was campaigning to take over the Uliare region" She says. "He wasn't careful, and accidentally put a baby in the woman... of course he never knew. His carelessness only revealed itself the day after his death, when the mistress returned with her child, claiming legitimacy"

"That... doesn't work, does it?" You ask.

"No" She replies. "Even if the child had his blood, they had no claim to the throne. It went to my Grandmother"

"But that wasn't the end" You say.

"Of course not. Several lords and ladies saw an opportunity in the bastard's cause. A chance to raise their own station by helping them usurp the rightful queen" She says. "It didn't work, but their descendants tried again a few times... My own parents lacked the will to quell those rebellions, but Valerie did. Within a month of her ascension, the bastards were no more"

"That's... harsh" You say.

"My grandparents tried things the old fashioned way, meeting them in the field and clashing until their side won..." She says. "My parents tried it the civil way, trying to appease them and stem the bloodshed. But they could not be reasoned with. We saw that. Thousands died in their first rebellion. Thousands would have died again"

"So don't father any bastards, gotcha" You say. "Any way I can prevent that? Something more effective than just... uhh... 'finishing elsewhere'?"

"I'll get you some gel tips, if you need them" She says. "They're these little... things made of slime girl that stick to your... member... and catch anything that comes out"

"Are they effective?" You ask.

"Always worked for me" She says. "And if they existed in my great grandfather's time, maybe we'd have more soldiers today..."

"That isn't... weird?" You ask. "I mean, it's made of stuff from a woman... so it's like having your penis in a woman, in a woman"

Altea chuckles, slowly laughing harder and harder.

"What? It's a legitimate concern" You say.

"Sorry. It's just... out of all of the posible concerns, that's the one you voice first?" She asks.

"It just seems weird is all..." You say.

"Relax. It's just gel when it's separated from the woman" She says. "Believe me. I've stepped in leftover slime from Jade more times than I could count..."

"Are lots of things made from slime girl?" You ask, pulling out the little container of red goop that Caiah gave you. "Yesterday Caiah gave me this stuff... if I put it in my eye it would change the colour to red and make me look like a blood demon"

"So you're fine with putting it in your eyes, but not on your penis..." Altea says.

"Focus" You say.

Altea chuckles. "Yes, I suppose a few things are made of slime. It's a useful substance" She says. "Biological in nature, easy to manipulate, washes off quickly and doesn't irritate..."

"So is it weird for them?" You ask. "I mean yeah, they're constantly shedding material... but if I were a slime I would probably be a little uncomfortable knowing that someone took that stuff and made a condom out of it..."

"They're not uncomfortable with it" She says.

"How do you know?" You ask.

"Who do you think gave me mine?" She asks.

"Oh... oh..." You say. "I... oh..."

"Yeah, I guess that took a depressing turn. Sometimes it's easy to forget that she's gone..." She says. "But I still have work to do, so do you want them or not?"

"Anything else I need to know?" You ask.

"Outpost force leaves in and hour. You can assemble with them at the south gate" She says.

"Cool" You reply. "Will you be there?"

"No. Derrick and Marybell will be leading the force. I'll be here" She says.

"I've taken to calling them Derrybell" You say.

Altea chuckles. "That has a nice ring to it..." She says.

Altea stands up and hugs you, before opening the door again and saying her farewells. The guard standing outside now has a stack of paper in his hands that wasn't there before... you guess Altea must have really put things off to have that talk.

You should do something for her sometime... maybe take her out for dinner when this is all over, have a little mother-son night.

Valerie can come too, you suppose.

With that out of the way, you head back out of the barracks. You'll have to go back to the manor for a minute to grab some things and make sure you're prepared for the attack, but other than that you're free for an hour...

You get to the manor and stop at the door to talk to the maid there as you usually do, before heading in and going up to Lianna's room.

When you knock on the door, you hear some banging from inside, ending with what sounds like the priestess falling over.

"Is... is everything okay in there?" You ask.

"No..." She replies. "But please, come in... I could use a hand"

You open the door and step inside. Lianna is on the floor, stuck in the robe she was working on last night. Looks like she got it down to her hips, and then it didn't wanna go any further. Luckily she's wearing leggings, so you don't see anything you shouldn't.

"I may have been wrong about a few of my measurements" She says. "Do you think you could help free my hands?"

"Of course" You say, shutting the door and helping her to her feet. You grab the robe and pull up, taking it right off and freeing her arms.

She might have had leggings on, but not a shirt. You quickly grab one from her bed and place it in her hands, letting her put it on to preserve some decency.

"Thank you" She says, quickly feeling out which way the shirt goes on and pulling it down.

You're surprised by how little seeing her topless bothered you... had this same thing happened yesterday, you don't know what would have happened.

"What happened there?" You ask.

Lianna feels around on the floor with her foot, looking for her robe with a troubled expression. You pick it up and hand it to her.

"Ah, thank you again" She says. "I was... perhaps not as accurate as I thought when I took my measurements..."

You go around and pick up the furniture she knocked over while she was stumbling about. "How so?" You ask.

"I... like it when my robes are form fitting..." She says, her cheeks turning a little red. "It feels more comfortable that way. But I may have put on some weight between when I started making them and now..."

"To be fair, you were in pretty bad shape when I first came to see you" You say, guiding her to a chair. "When I massaged you in the baths, I was actually kinda worried my fingers would go right through, you were so thin. Gaining some weight is a good thing in this case"

"Yes, but..." She pinches her hip, still looking troubled. "I fear I may have gone too far..."

You look her over, and she's definitely not as skinny as someone like Cheska... but even she could serve to gain a little. She looks normal, but you guess she's been overly thin for a few years now. Having some meat on her bones might feel strange.

"I dunno, I think you look good" You say. "A couple curves never killed anyone"

That gets a laugh out of her. "Do I really?" She asks.

"Of course" You say.

She blushes a little more. "That is very kind of you to say... but the problem of my robes remains" She says. "I do not think I will need to start over, but much will need to be fixed"

"Can I help?" You ask. "I've got some time"

"Are you sure? I know you're rather busy..." She says.

"Call it a thank you for your help last night" You say.

"Alright, I suppose there is something you can do..." She says sa she stands up and feels her way to the table. She opens the top drawer and runs her fingers across the items inside, eventually coming up with a roll of measuring tape. "I'll need new measurements..."

"And you want me to do the measuring? Sure thing. Toss it here" You say.

She tosses the measuring tape to a spot about 4 feet to your left, making you have to work to catch it. The tape is notched so that you can use it by feel, but it would still be easier to use by sight.

"Was I close?" She asks.

"Couple feet off, no big deal. Still a good toss" You say. "Now, what needs measuring"

"Start with my hips, I suppose. That is where the robe got stuck..." She says.

You nod and wrap the tape around her hips, bringing it together at her side and telling her the number.

"Ah... that is quite a bit larger" She says, getting that troubled look again as she feels around tape.

You brush her hands off of her hips, letting yours rest there in their place. "Lianna you're going to upset your entire female congregation if you think this is large" You say. "Remember what I said. You were a noodle before. Larger is good"

"It's just... well... m-my... my butt seems a little too big..." She says.

"Stand still for a sec" You say, stepping back to examine her. "Nope. Not big. It's actually kinda cute"

"Cute?" She asks. "It's... cute?"

"Yeah" You say. "Now here, lemme take this and we can do your waist next"

You pick up the measuring tape and wrap it around her waist, telling her the number again.

"That's... not as bad" She says.

"The first one wasn't bad" You say. "I never thought a priestess would care so much for appearances"

"I am allowed to want to look good..." She says. "But my appearance must be proper, otherwise it reflects badly upon the church"

"Well I think you look very good" You say, taking the tape and moving up to her chest. "We'll get your robes fixed, your church rebuilt, put you back in business, and then I can brag to all the other lords and ladies about how Lutain has the most beautiful priestess on the continent"

"Th-the most beautiful? I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of attention..." She says.

"Yeah... and to be fair I haven't actually met any other priestesses" You say, getting the tape together and tellin her the next number.

"That is a little bit larger... strange" She says, directing you to measure underneath her chest now. You do it, and give her the next number. "Okay good... I was worried my breasts had gotten bigger"

"That's bad?" You ask.

She gives you a dirty look, then lets out a light laugh. "Not the end of the world. It just would have been a more difficult adjustment to make to the robes, that's all"

"Ahh. I see" You say.

"You seem happier today than you were last night" She says.

"I feel better today than I did last night" You say. "What gave it away? Was it the tone of voice, my eagerness to help out, my unrelenting barrage of compliments..."

"The last one, and a bit of the first" She says. "It is good to have you in high spirits"

"It's good to be in high spirits, Priestess" You reply. "Did you need anything else?"

"No. I can take it from here" She says. Her tail comes around and touches you on the side, feeling out the edge of your form until it reaches your ear. Then she smiles and pops up to give you a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you for the help, my lord"

"Anytime" You reply.

That was damn funny and erotic in equal measure. It's good to know that the Yuu and Madelaine dynamic is just as great in bed. Can't really critique it as the few, sad, times I've read erotica it was, well, erotica. I swear the people who write that crap has never seen a penis in their life or hugged anyone but their own mother. This was better than that, though I don't know if saying that is praise or not.

So let's tally up the things we've learned:

After you leave Lianna, you figure you should see how Cheska's doing before you head out. So you get Coral to lead you to her, and start heading up... up... up...

"Is she on the roof?" You ask.

Coral does her little "searching for signal" thing, then points down.

"Are you sure?" You ask.

Coral nods.

Now you head back down... down... down to the exit and out of the manor.

But Cheska's not here.

"Coral?" You ask.

Coral points back up at the roof.

"Have you been messing with me?" You ask.

Coral pouts angrily.

"No? So what the heck is she doing?" You ask.

As an answer to your question, you look up and see Cheska leap off the roof and spread her wings, which are much bigger now than you remember...

...

She flaps them and tries to glide, but she loses her balance and starts to tumble towards the ground.

You run towards where she'll fall, ready to catch her... but someone beats you to it. Another flyer swoops down and grabs Cheska, using her own massive wings to slow them down.

They land safely, and you get a good look at Cheska's savior. She's tall and tan, with a lean, muscled body, 4 arms, and the biggest bird wings you've ever seen. Her hair is feathery like Ava's, with a fiery orange color to it, along with her wings.

Once her feet are on the ground, she releases Cheska from her four armed grip and starts to say something. Cheska ignores her, running over to you and jumping into your arms.

"Yuu~" She says.

"Hey" You say. "You're chipper this morning"

Cheska giggles as she hops back down. "I'm learnin' to fly!" She says.

"Should I run and tell all the angels?" You ask.

She looks confused.

"Nevermind..." You say. "Those got bigger"

She nods enthusiastically. "Monique and I finished growing them out yesterday" She says. "And then Pip went and asked June here to teach me how to use 'em"

You look past her to June, who gives you a nod and steps forward. You notice that she's wearing a Lubrian army flyer's uniform. "That's me" She says, extending one of her four hands to you. "June Rugan. I'm a Garuda"

"Yuu Gallant" You say, accepting her hand. Her grip is strong, so you meet it in kind.

"Just... helping a friend in need" June says. "And Pip said she'd forgive my debts to her if I did this, so... here I am"

"Just how much did you owe her?" You ask.

"More than enough to make this worth dropping everything I had planned" June says.

"And how is it going?" You ask both of them.

"Good!" Cheska says with enthusiasm.

June seems less sure.

"We may need to build up your back muscles a bit" June says. "If your wings don't have the strength to push the necessary amount of air, you don't get any lift"

"I'm plenty strong!" Cheska says.

"-In the muscles you've been using your entire life" June says. "We'll give this another couple goes, and see where that gets us, then you may have to think about a workout routine"

Cheska puffs out her cheeks.

"I'd love to join you..." She says.

You shake your head, and pull her into you. "Not yet. Stay here, where it's safe" You say.

"I'm not useless now..." She says.

"Of course not" You say. "Learn how to use your new body, find out where your new limits are, invent ways to work within them. Once you've done that, I would be happy to have you slingin' fireballs at my side"

She nods and returns your embrace, wrapping both her arms, wings, and tail around you. "I will" She says.

They fly back up, and you head out.

"You know I'd never miss a good battle" You say.

"Cheska's not coming?" She asks.

"She's learning to fly" You reply.

"That could take all night..." She says.

You chuckle. "So is everything set?"

"Looks like it" She says. "Oh, here comes Derrybell"

"I thought you hated that name"

She shrugs. "It's grown on me"

Marybell strides up to you and Madelaine with Derrick riding on her back. Just like the other night, it looks like she really enjoys being ridden...

"Glad to see you'll be joining us" Derrick says, reaching down with his fist. "I definitely feel more comfortable about this now"

You bump his fist. "What are you nervous about?" You ask.

"Well... it's my first time commanding an actual planned excursion" He says. "The other times I just kinda took charge in a spur of the moment thing..."

"I'm sure you'll do fine" Marybell says.

Derrick smiles, reaching forward to put a hand on Marybell's cheek. Marybell leans her head into his hand, both of them seeming completely okay with the fact that just about everyone is watching.

Their little moment passes, and Derrick takes a breath before addressing the gathered soldiers. You see that it's a mix of Lubrian and Northern troops, and for a moment you're worried the northerners might not recognize his leadership.

But when he gives the order to move out, they follow without question. You guess he must have sufficiently proven his mettle during the siege.

You, Madelaine and Derrybell take the head of the column and march south...

"There's another thing about this that I should let you guys know" You say.

"What is it?" Marybell asks.

"I got a message from he resistance. They want to meet me by theoutpost once we've taken it" You say. "I was gonna bring a small force along with me"

"You're welcome to it" Derrick says. "I'll have to stay behind, but Marybell can accompany you"

Marybell turns her head and gives Derrick a look out of the corner of her eye.

"O-or not... well, you can take your pick of the rest of the troops" He says.

"Count me in, too" Madelaine says. "And if I'm coming, so are the guys"

"Where are they anyway?" You ask.

She shrugs. "Back there somewhere" Madelaine says.

"What about the rest of our troops?" You ask. "What are we working with?"

Derrick gives you a quick rundown of your company. It's an even mix of Lubrian and northern troops, mostly footsoldiers, but there's a small northern cavalry troop, and a squad of Lubrian flyers.

"Oh, and the Holy Order sent their people with us as well" Derrick finishes, tacking that onto the end.

"So Storm is here?" You ask.

"Yeah" Derrick says. "I kinda wanted to just have troops from the two armies, but they insisted..."

"You guys keep going. I'm gonna go talk to Storm" You say.

"Is it urgent?" Derrick asks.

"Of course!" You say. "4 months in Leon and he didn't even drop in and say hello? I'm gonna go give him a piece of my mind..."

"Tell him I said hi" Madelaine says.

"I will" You say, as you break off and slow your pace, moving to the side to let the troops march past you.

As they pass, you scan the heads for Storm. It isn't until you're at the very back that you find him. The rest of the order's people were around the middle, so it's really just Storm and Michaela back here.

"Holding up the rear, huh Storm?" You ask.

He startles and takes a step away from Michaela, hiding his hands behindhis back. Both of them are pretty red in the face...

"Hey, Yuu... That's uhh... that's not what I was doing..." He says.

"Come on, guys. Stay focused" You say. "You can be all lovey when the fight's over"

"Y-yes sir" They both say.

"Good. Now let me see your war face!" You say.

"My... war face?" Michaela asks.

"You got a war face? Let me see it" You say. "AHHHH! That's a war face"

"A-aahhhhh" Michaela says.

"Come on, Michaela. You've gotta feel it. AHHHHHH!" You say.

"AHHHHH!" Michaela shouts, startling the soldiers in front of you.

"Excellent. The Legionnaires will be terrified" You say, slipping in between the two of them and putting an arm over each of their shoulders. "So how's it goin', guys? Long time no see"

Storm lets out a nervous laugh, and tries to slip away. You tighten up on him.

"I hear you guys were in Leon" You say.

"Uhh... yeah" He says.

"I was also in Leon. How come I didn't hear from you?" You ask.

"W-well... we figured you were busy" Storm says. "S-studying with the scholars is a lot of work..."

You decide to ease up, letting them go and giving them both a pat on the back. "That's fair" You say. "So how've you two been?"

>1/2

You get a quick version of their time in Leon, as well as what they've been doing since. You can kinda understand why they never stopped in now, it sounds like the order had them running ragged...

"So why is the order interested in our war all of a sudden?" You ask.

"We have always been interested" Michaela says. "Preserving the purity of our world is our highest priority"

"Which is why we were sent to aid you" Storm says. "You specifically, not the war effort as a whole"

"Why me?" You ask.

"Because you are the one who can cleanse the impurities" Michaela says.

"You mean the Black God's boons" You say.

"The flesh weapons of the Legion don't belong in our world" Storm says. "The only to get rid of them, that we know of, is to hand them to you"

"Well just... don't touch them" You say.

Michaela tilts her head.

"Handling one of those will weaken you in seconds, make you mana sick in under a minute, and kill you if you don't let go" You say. "If you see someone holding one, call for me"

"That is the plan" Storm says.

"But if you're here for me, why did I have to come all the way back here just to find out?" You ask. "You guys have been here 2 nights now. Surely someone could have spared some time to talk with me"

"W-well... after your experience with the Inquisition, we were fairly certain that your opinion of the church was... low" He says.

"You're kind of right" You say. "There's a lot of blood on the order's hands, of that there is no doubt. But I'd never turn down a helping hand..."

Storm sighs. "Madelaine told you everything, didn't she?" He asks.

"Every. Single. Thing" You reply.

"Alright. I admit it. I didn't think you liked me very much, so I was afraid to come and talk to you" He says. "Especially after we never heard from you in Leon..."

"I never knew you were in Leon, first of all" You say. "Second of all: we bonded, man! How could you disrespect me like that?"

"I'm sorry..." He says.

"That's better" You say. "Now, never be afraid to come say hello. My doors are always open for friends"

You bump fists with Storm, and then Michaela.

"I-... I also wanted to thank you for helping this town's priestess" Michaela says. "

"What, Lianna? Don't mention it. She's already given more than enough back" You say. "Plus, who could leave such an adorable priestess out in the cold? Not me, that's who"

"Have you heard from any of the other Antolian churches?" You ask.

"No. We never even got anything from this one" Michaela says. "From what we've been told, allowing the priestess to linger the way they did was supposed to be 'mercy'... if that's mercy, then..."

"Yeah, the other churches are probably in pretty bad shape..." You say. "Have you spoken with Lianna?"

"Not yet..." Storm says.

"You're not afraid she doesn't like you, are you?" You ask.

"It's a legitimate fear... the order did kind of abandon her all this time..." He says.

"Don't worry. Priestess Lianna isn't the grudge bearing type" You say. "Heck, I don't even know if she hates the Legion for all they did. She's a very serene woman"

"You sound like you have a lot of respect for her" Michaela says.

"I do, and she's earned it" You say. "I know the church isn't all bad, but the order itself does have to atone for the Inquisition's acts"

"We're working on it" Storm says.

"Good" You say. "So... what else did Madelaine say I'd say?"

"A lot of the stuff you ended up saying, actually" Storm says. "She seems to have you pegged..."

"To be fair, a lot of people could have guessed that. I'm a very straightforward guy" You say.

"Some people might call that 'being predictable'..." Michaela says.

"Some people might be surprised" You reply.

You stay at the back with Storm and Michaela for the duration of the march, keeping an eye on the column's rear as you make your way to the outpost.

The march only takes around 2 hours, but you manage to get to know the two of them pretty well during that time, and share a bit about yourself and your own adventures.

Michaela comes from a long line of holy warriors. She was trained by her mother, who currently lives in Leon as the right hand of the Order's master.

Storm is just as interested in the ruins as Madelaine, and laments the fact that he couldn't be there when you went into the Howling Tower...

He's less bummed out when you tell him what a harrowing climb it was, but he listens very intently as you tell him about Raligos...

"So I lured him out of Madelaine by basically talking a bunch of smack, figuring I could fight him once he left" You say. "And then he went into my head..."

"Oh dear..." Michaela says. "Did... did they have to fight you too?"

"Nah. I beat him in there. Once I realized that I had basically all of the power inside my head, I trapped him there and sealed him in this..." You say, pulling out the Wind Emblem.

"Are you sure you should be carrying that around?" Storm asks.

You shrug. "It's actually very useful, you see-"

The column stops, and you hear orders being relayed down the line.

"Oh, looks like we've arrived" You say, giving your legs and arms a stretch. "I'd better head to the front"

>Anything else to say to them?

"Anyway, it was nice talking to you" You say. "You'r welcome to hit the next ruin with us, and don't forget to drop by the manor!"

"Hang on, there's-" Michaela says, but you're already on your way.

You head off and jog to the front. The outpost is in sight now...

It's a hastily built fort, with walls made of magically raised earth reinforced with roots. The wall isn't all the way up yet, and there are towers that are also only half built

"Looks like we arrived just in time" Derrick says when you reach him. "It's likely they'll be expecting us, so the open side may be trapped. My plan is to blow straight through the wall before us, and charge in. Sound good?"

"Sounds good" You reply.

"Alright..." He says, turning back to give out the call. He stops when he sees Michaela flying over the column to the front.

"Wait!" Michaela says as she lands, in her rush she doesn't brake enough and stumbles on her feet.

"Something wrong?" Derrick asks.

Michaela nods. "Something is wrong!"

...

"Are you... gonna tell us what it is?" He asks.

"I... don't sense any demons" She says. "At this distance I should feel them, but I don't..."

"But there must be..." Derrick says.

"Maybe there's more to this. Michaela's demon senses are much more sensitive than normal" Madelaine says.

"Alright... I'm gonna go get a closer look" You say, pointing out to the west. "I'll follow the treeline that way to the ditch over there, use that for cover to get up to the outpost"

"Good plan. But if you see anything-" Derrick says, handing you a spellbomb. "-it's a lightbomb. Turn it on, toss it up, and it'll signal us"

"Gotcha" You say, stowing the bomb away in a pouch. "See you soon"

You go along your chosen path, keeping your eyes open and your head on a swivel the whole way.

There's no one in the forest, no one in the cleared out field around the outpost, and no one on the outpost walls. Is Michaela right? Is there no one home?

That could mean any number of things... it could all be a trap, or the resistance could have hit this place, or the Legion could have heard you were coming and backed the hell off.

You reach the ditch and look in. Seems like a basic drainage ditch, dug using magic. It's dry, and therefore clean, so you jump in and make your way to your target.

It's quiet out... silent, really. You realize that for the first time now that you're away from the murmurings of the army. You hear no birds, no people, no bugs... just the wind through the trees and the grass.

That makes you nervous enough to take out your mageblades and summon up your bucklers.

When you get into the outpost, the tension only grows. There are demons here, but they're dead. All of them.

You quickly head over to the nearest body, a man in light armor, and check it out. Definitely dead... no need to check for a pulse- not that you would feel one anyway.

This man has a knives sticking out of his face, neck, stomach, and thigh. Looking up at the wall nearby you see several other knives that missed the mark stuck into its surface.

You pluck the knife out of his face and examine it. It's not metal... looks like it's made of bone.

"Hey... I've seen these before" You say. "But-"

Your eyes go wide and you bring your blade and bucklers up to defend as several more bone knives fly your way. You block them all and look for their origin.

When you find it, you find the culprit for all this.

It's not a person. It's not a demon. Hell, you don't think it's a monster either.

It's a humanoid form that looks like it's made of... gums. Like the gums in your mouth, all pink and wet and shiny... It has dozens of those same bone daggers sticking out of it, and more grow out with every passing second.

With an incomprehensible shriek that seems to come from nowhere on its body, it swings its arms and legs to release more knives at you, then gets down on all fours to charge...

Bone daggers were the Puppeteer's weapon. You captured his boon when Terry killed him, but the Legion took it back along with Carthac's spear when they attacked Locke.
>>
>>2536108
You've been running pretty often recently man, respect.
>>
The creature stops, stabbing one of its limbs into the ground and swinging its entire body forward. The motion increases its momentum and launches a volley of bone knives at you.

You merge your bucklers and extend the shield into a screen large enough to guard your entire body. The knives don't have the weight to pressure the shield, so they ping off harmlessly and clatter to the ground.

But you have to unmerge the bucklers as the creature leaps into it. You know the larger shield won't hold against its assault, and it's easier to maintain the bucklers than it is to resummon them once they've broken.

As it comes in to attack, you dart to the side and attempt to take off one of its knife-covered limbs. It shifts unnaturally in the air, kicking your blade down, then locking it with all 4 of its limbs and trying to break it.

The blade won't hold, and you can't split it or do anything while all of your focus is on the task of keeping it together. You spare yourself the struggle and drive it off with your floating blade. It flips back and away from you, releasing yet more daggers.

You don't have time to merge the bucklers again, so you make do with what you have now. Unfortunately it's not enough... bone knives sink into your arm and shoulder, leaving painful cuts in other places where they glance off.

The creature lands on all fours and slowly circles you, like it's waiting for something...

"Sorry to disappoint you-... I'm gonna call you knifey" You say, as you pluck the knife from your shoulder. "I don't go down that easy"

Knifey makes a gurgling sound as the knives it expended grow back.

This is bad. Whatever this thing is, it's gonna be a tough son of a bitch to kill. More than that, it's clearly made up like a boon... which means that calling in reinforcements could end with an outright slaughter.

But you aren't certain if you can take it on alone. You aren't even sure you know how to kill it...

It starts to move forward, so you tie it up with a few chain flares and call Coral out of your shirt.

"Coral listen. The army can't come in here" You say, waving your arms in the motion you want her to mimic. You then mime firing a bow. "But I could use ranged support"

Coral mimes those things back to you, salutes, then flits off.

You put out your bucklers to cover her as knifey looses a few knives her way.

"Hey now. That's my sprite you just tried to kill" You say. "Nobody hurts Coral. Not you, not Mahron, not anyone"

The creature lets out another shriek and starts running around you. It moves like it has no bones, and knowing what it's made of that's probably the case.

It dodges your chain flares and tries to keep its distance when you move in... like it's trying to buy time for something.

Buy time for what? You're not about to bleed out, and as far as you know reinforcements aren't coming. Does it still think you're going to drop from mana sickness?

You back it into the wall, and it finds one of the dead demons. It wraps its limbs around the body and... holy hell, is it eating?

Knifey uses its body like a makeshift mouth, digging its "teeth" into the dead demon's flesh. You get the feeling that you should stop this...

"You've got worse table manners than Liz, you know that?" You say, firing a disruptor at it.

Knifey panics, putting everything it has into dodging the disruptor. It makes a clumsy jump, letting you close in and slam your blade into it.

You can't cut in due to all the knives, but as it bounces off the ground you hit it with another disruptor.

The wave passes through its body, causing it to shudder and shriek in pain. Its movements become more jerky and erratic. It launches countless knives from everywhere on its body, but it's aiming at nothing.

You buckle down and guard against the knives, until it seems to regain its senses and runs at you.

"That hurt, did it?" You ask.

You wait until the last second to dodge, slicing off one of its arms as it passes.

It lands on 3 limbs, shrieking as its "head" elongates into a replacement for the arm. The process looks disgusting, and releases a smell like a rotting corpse...

This time when it comes at you, you jam your blade into its midsection and hit it with heartbreaker, trying to get as much blade in as possible to find which spot in this thing actually kills it.

No good. You're forced to remove your blade and back off as it rips its limbs free on the blades sticking inside them.

There's no way you missed its heart... but it's still standing. There is a way forward. You can see it. But you'll need more power...

You can gather it up bu that would take time, and knifey isn't about to sit stll and let you charge up...

You remember the other bomb you're carrying, in the pouch next to the lightbomb. The one the King gave you when he gave Derrick the Firebrand.

A "soul bomb"... it'll saturate the battleground with shards of soul crystal, making it much easier to get the energy you'll need... but you've only got the one.

You take a breath and start bringing in more soul, dragging it towards you from as far away as you can reach... which, as it turns out, is pretty far.

It's a slow process now, but you think that with practice you could make it second nature like your mageblades...

Unfortunately this isn't practice. Knifey forces you to split your focus into combat and energy gathering, slowing the process even further.

You let the creature control the pace of the battle, focusing on defense and making few attacks of your own. Right now any hits you get in would be futile anyway.

When it backs you into the wall, you give another last second dodge and let it jam its knife-tipped arm into the earthen barrier.

You use those few seconds you bought to focus on gathering, but you only get a few seconds of undivided focus before a bad feeling takes over.

You leap to the side, narrowly dodging as another creature leaps into you.

Two of them? Where did it come from?

You search the outpost for the arm you cut off, and don't find it. How did the arm grow a body?

The new creature blows right past you, leaping into the first and tearing it up. For a moment you think they're fighting each other... until you realize that's quite the opposite of what's happening.

They merge, making an even larger beast. This new knifey has its blades aligned up its large arms like armored scales. An alligator-like head grows out, with a gaping maw, massive teeth, and six eyes. Each pair of eyes has a different color: red, green, purple... a pair for each kind of demon.

It pounds its big arms on the ground, getting low and letting out a long bellow before charging into you once more.

You make an annoyed sound as you get ready. You've almost got what you need now... you just need a little bit more time...

Something clicks inside your brain, making you realize that you've been doing this wrong the entire time.

Why are you trying to pull the energy to you? It's cumbersome, slow, and pointless. It's all just soul. Soul does what you want it to. The fact that this stuff isn't a part of your reserves doesn't change that.

You bring every last bit of free floating soul in this area to your fingertips, letting a bit of it burst off to stop knifey's charge before bringing all of that back in as well.

Once it's all focused into a nice little ball in your hand, you hold it up and release it. The burst of energy annihilates everything you want it to, the creature, the outpost, the dead demons... and when it subsides there's nothing left but you.

With that, you brush yourself off and look around.

The parts of the outpost that existed above ground are gone. There are a few holes where the legion had built basements and tunnels, but that's it.

The clouds overhead have a great big hole in them. To keep the energy from going out and possibly hurting your people, you made it go up... but you didn't think it would reach that high.

With the walls gone you can see the army. You give them a wave and Derrybell immediately rides over.

"What in the name of the gods was that?" Marybell asks.

"I did a thing" You say.

"I'll say" Derrick says. "That pillar went so high they probably saw it all the way in Locke. What the hell happened?"

"There was a creature" You say. "It was kinda... remember the night of my birthday?"

"Yeah" Derrick says.

"It was like the boon I took off the puppeteer" You say. "Only it was alive. It was like a gum person covered in tooth-knives. I couldn't kill it, so I had to annihilate it"

"Did you have to annihilate the outpost too?" He asks.

"I may have overdone it a little..." You say. "On the bright side we don't have to deal with the outpost anymore"

"What happened to the legionnaires?" Marybell asks.

"All dead when I arrived" You say. "The creature got them. I guess they couldn't control it..."

"We should comb over what's left" You say. "I only destroyed what's on the surface, so there's some basements and tunnels left over"

"Where are you going?" Derrick asks.

"I just learned a new thing" You say. "I want to see what its limitations are"

"Well you've earned a break" He says. "We'll take it from here. Just... don't blow anything else up"

"I make no promises" You reply.

As Derrick calls the army in to clear the remains of the outpost, you head to its edge and play around a bit.

The control you have over free floating soul is much greater now. That indirect casting technique you were practicing yesterday, the one you thought might take months to master, is now much easier.

You put your hands in your pockets and summon up your bucklers without using a single bit of your own energy, making them bigger than before without any extra effort.

Then you nod, and focus your energy about 20 feet in front of you, using that spot to fire soul bolts back at yourself. They're still not all that strong, but it's a good start.

Where this ability shines is when you're drawing the energy to you. It gathers quickly in the palm of your hand, giving you a steady reservoir to do... whatever you want.

You move it around, expand it, contract it, fire bolts off of it, and change its shape, all just to test what it can do.

When you see Madelaine approaching, you decide to release it... not realizing the sheer amount of soul you have gathered. It explodes, and you scramble to contain the explosion by forcing it up again.

Once it's all expelled, you turn back to Madelaine with a nervous smile.

"H-hey" You say.

You scratch your head. "Y-yeah... sorry for almost blowing you up there" You say. "I may have to be a bit more careful with this"

"What was that?" She asks.

"That was all of the soul in this area, concentrated into a little ball" You say. "It kinda clicked that I could use it like that while I was fighting knifey, since I needed a lot of power to get rid of it"

"Knifey?" She asks.

You describe the creature you fought to her, including how it reminded you of the puppeteer's boon, and how it created another version of itself and merged...

"That's... gross" She says.

"It was pretty gross, yeah" You say. "Thing is, I couldn't kill it by conventional means. I put my mageblade literally everywhere in its body and found no part to stab that would kill it. Even Arlen had a heart in his head"

"So you decided to overkill it... interesting plan" She says.

"It worked didn't it?" You say.

"I never said it was a bad plan" She says.

"And to be honest, I wasn't really sure how much power I was working with" You say. "I just needed a lot, and ended up with too much"

"And here I thought you were just adequate..." She says.

You chuckle, and playfully smack her arm. "So what brings you over here?" You ask.

"Oh I just wanted to ask how you managed to destroy the entire outpost" She says. "I should also note that if you plan on practicing with that, you should do it outside the city. Just in case"

"Good call" You say.

"Come on" You say, giving Madelaine a pat on the shoulder. "I wanna see what they're finding"

She shrugs, folding her arms over her chest and following... but as her arms settle she winces and puts them back at her sides.

"Still?" You ask.

"Just a little tender..." She says. "I had to lube up my bra to keep the from chafing. It helps, but I can't touch them at all..."

You start laughing.

"What? It's not funny" She says.

"It is for me" You say.

She gives you a dirty look, then reaches in and twists your nipple.

"Ow!" You say.

She pokes out her tongue and picks up the pace, heading back to Meyu and the others. You let her go, rubbing your now sore nipple as you head for one of the basements.

"What are we finding?" You ask as you jump down. Paula is down here, along with a few others.

"Dead demons" Paula says. "There's a prisoner up ahead, alive but unresponsive. Otherwise there's nothing"

Paula take you deeper in. The basement slopes downward to the prison for whatever reason, bringing it deep enough underground that you couldn't see it even after destroying the building overtop of it.

"I recognize her" You say as you approach the prison.

The person inside is an arachnid with dark skin, dressed all in black clothing that matches the shiny black chitin of her lower half.

"You do?" Paula asks.

"She was up north" You say. "I fought her in the tournament, and she helped me defeat the Legion..."

"Why do you think she's here?" Paula asks.

"I don't even know what she was doing up north..." You say.

"Think she might be injured?" You ask.

"Medics already had a look. Nothing seems to be wrong" Paula says.

...

You step into the cell and poke her face. "Wake up" You say.

...

You reach down and tickle her sides. She immediately springs to life, laughing and struggling until you take your hands off and she stops. Then she tries to play dead again.

"We know you're awake" You say.

"Curses" She says, as she flips over onto her legs. She has an accent that you can't place. "How did you know I was not asleep?"

"Call it a hunch" You say. "What are you doing here?"

"I was attempting to infiltrate this place, my lord" She says. "But I was caught and captured"

"Why?" You ask.

"Well I tunneled into one of their tunnels and they noticed me-"

"I mean why were you trying to infiltrate this place?" You ask.

"I was helping" She says. "Or... trying to help"

"And why were you trying to help?" You ask.

She starts to answer, but stops herself and shrugs. "I felt like it" She says.

"Do you have a real reason?" You ask.

"I... just wish to help you" She says, fidgeting a little.

"Me specifically?" You ask.

She nods.

"Why?" You ask.

"You are a webwalker" She says, giving you a deep bow. "Better than prey and predator alike. I have come to devote my service to you"

"So not because of any link to our cause, or dislike of the legion, or a connection to the resistance..." You say. "You want to help because... I walked on your web?"

"Yes" She says. "It is a much bigger deal then it may sound..."

"Not really sure if I trust that, but I'll bite" You say. "How long have you been here?"

"Since the early morning" She says. "I had hoped to set up a trapdoor down here somewhere and thin their numbers, but I was caught"

"Did you see where that flesh creature with all the knives came from?" You ask.

"No. But I heard the commotion it caused" She says. "From what I could gather, they brought it here in a box, but it got out"

"How come it didn't kill you?" You ask.

"I was playing dead" She says.

"Smart" You say.

"Thank you" She says.

You aren't sure if you can actually trust this woman... she's been nothing but helpful so far, but you don't know anything about her. As much as you'd like to pry into that now, you have the resistance meeting still...

"Well why don't you come along then?" You ask. "I have a meeting with the resistance nearby, and I'd like to hear more about this whole webwalker deal..."

"Certainly" She says, bowing again as she follows you out.

"You sure that's a good idea?" Paula asks.

"I just destroyed this whole outpost in one blast. I can handle it" You say.

"Fair enough" She replies.

You come back out of the basement and into the light. The spider-...

"What's your name, anyway?" You ask.

"Kanzka" She says.

Kanzka shields her eyes from the sun, giving them time to adjust.

"So what's this whole webwalker thing about?" You ask.

"None but the spider who spun the web knows which threads to step on" She says. "The webwalker can see them as no one else can. That makes him-... you worth serving"

"So you want to follow me because I can walk on your webs?" You ask. "There must be others"

"None others" She says. "Only you"

"Where did that title come from, anyhow?" You ask.

"It came from the first tale. It is said that Caian could walk freely through the spider's web, and my family served him as well" She says.

"Why didn't you lead with that?" You ask.

Kanzka cheeks turn red and she mumbles something, but before you can ask what she said Madelaine calls over to you.

"Hey Yuu! We goin' to this thing or what?" She asks.

"Of course" You reply. "Is everyone ready?"

"Just waitin' on you" She says, turning to Kanzka. "Who's this?"

"Kanzka. She's like a spider... assassin that I met up north" You say. "She wants to help"

"O... kay" Madelaine says, offering her hand to the newcomer. "Nice to meet you. I'm Madelaine"

Kanzka shifts herself behind you, like she'd somehow be able to hide... then she takes Madelaine's hand.

With that strange meeting, Madelaine decides not to ask further questions. You assemble your crew and head out, after letting Derrick know who you're taking.

Kanzka sticks close to you as you move, her eyes flitting about at the people you've brought along like any of them could be enemies...

You should maybe get her to calm down a bit...

"So is there anything else to this whole webwalker deal?" You ask.

"It makes you the master of our order" She says. "We will serve you, just as we served Caian"

"Are there more of you around?" You ask.

"N-not anymore..." She says, turning away from you.

You decide not to pry into that. "Well your service has been appreciated" You say. "You were a big help up north"

"Thank you" She says.

"Where are you from, anyway?" You ask.

"Nowhere in particular" She says. "My order was called the Akotzal"

Madelaine's eyes light up in recognition.

"You know the name?" You ask.

"Kinda... Hey Zaine!" She calls out, waving Zaine over to you.

Zaine looks mildly annoyed, but walks over all the same. "What is it?" He asks.

"What was the name of your order again?" Madelaine asks Kanzka

"Akotzal" She says.

"Really? I didn't think there were any of you left" Zaine says. "Uhh... my condolences"

"They died valiantly" Kanzka says. "How do you know of us?"

"I trained with some of your order" Zaine says, drawing his strange, curved double blade. "I had to dig into the exotic weapons when I first encountered a mastery stone... the Akotzal were the only people I'd ever heard of using a blade like this. I actually met Gerard for the first time when I was travelling to meet your order, though I didn't see him again until after Meyu and I left the Lubrian Knights"

"I see..." Kanzka says.

"What brings the last of the Akotzal here?" Zaine asks.

"I have found the Webwalker" Kanzka says.

"Him?" Zaine asks, pointing to you.

Kanzka nods.

"How'd that happen?" Zaine asks.

>1/2
>>
"Interesting" Zaine says.

"Can you shine a little more light on that?" You ask. "She's... not good at explaining these things. No offense"

"None taken. My skills are in infiltration, assassination, and sabotage, not the transfer of knowledge" Kanzka says.

"The Webwalker is their oldest tradition" He says. "Any non-arachnid who joins their order is always tested on the web. If they can cross it without getting caught, they're the webwalker... if not..."

"What happens if they fail?" You ask.

"Oh, nothing" He says. "Hell, I failed the test. It's not like they'll turn you away or kill you. It's just to find out if you're the webwalker"

"So when I ran across your webs in the tournament, I passed your test" You say.

Kanzka nods. "And that makes you the master of the Akotzal" She says. "Or... what is left of it... so... me"

"You'll do fine" You say. "Just try to keep your cool around the resistance. They're known for being a bit antagonistic"

"I am always cool" She says. "The mind of an Akotzal must always remain focused on the task at hand, lest their own weavings betray them-"

"-But the value of fury cannot be underestimated where corners are concerned" Zaine says. "Word for word, straight from the spider's code"

"It is a very wise book..." Kanzka says.

You reach the clearing where the meeting was to take place, and find no one.

"You sure this is it?" Madelaine asks.

"Pretty sure" You say.

"Yes sir" She replies, slipping away silently and slinking into the trees.

A very large woman, with huge furry paws, big claws, and incredibly furry ears coming out of the top of her head steps out. She's followed by a man with black hair and blue eyes, and an Elf with silver hair like Belladonna's.

"I dunno, can you guys proove that you're actually resistance?" You ask.

The bear woman looks surprised, and she turns to whisper something to the man next to her. Then he looks surprised.

The man steps up and scratches his head. "We uhh... didn't think you'd ask that" He says.

"You all think so highly of me..." You say.

"It's just that Miss Lepol said you were pretty trusting..." He says.

"It's been a while since Stella's seen me" You say. "I've grown a bit"

"Look, we're obviously resistance, you're obviously the prince" The Ursid says. "Can we move past that?"

"Of course" You say. "Right past it, and straight to an explanation of why your men were trying to steal one of my prisoners"

"We apologize for their actions" The Ursid says. "They were men we had posted in Lutain, and after the Legionnaire killed their comrades they acted rashly. They have been reprimanded"

"Good to know" You say. "I hope you're all willing to work with us now. We could use your help"

"And you'll have it" The Ursid says, stopping before she can continue as Kanzka slips back out of the trees.

"I found exactly 4 people hiding in the trees" Kanzka says. "They have been subdued"

"Subdued like..." You say.

"Restrained" Kanzka says.

You turn back to the Ursid. "Were those your guys in the trees?" You ask.

"Assurance, in case things went wrong" She says. "Is something wrong?"

You frown, and turn back to Kanzka. "You may wanna let them go..." You say. "Gently. Don't hurt them"

"As you wish, sir" Kanzka says, as she slips back into the trees.

"Your men may complain about being tied up by an arachnid later, but I assure you that no harm has befallen them" You say. "Now, let's talk business..."

Gerard forms a table and some chairs with his magic to bring some comfort to this meeting, allowing you to sit down.

The resistance members Kanzka caught emerge from the trees one by one as they're released. They all seem fairly embarrassed to have been caught, but the embarrassment fades when they hear who caught them.

"I didn't think there were any Akotzal left..." The bear woman says.

"I am the last" Kanzka says.

"I see..." The Ursid says. "Well it's a good thing we're not enemies. I wouldn't personally want to fight you with an Akotzal hiding in the forest..."

"I'd just like to point out that I singlehandedly demolished that outpost over there. The giant pillar of soul you saw was me, so you've got more reasons to not want to fight me" You say. "But aside from that, I believe introductions are finally in order"

You go around the makeshift table giving your names one by one. Kanzka excuses herself before it gets to her turn, going off to keep watch in the trees.

You're pretty sure she's just not a fan of crowds.

"And I'm Yuu" You say once it gets to you. "That's everybody"

"Good. The Emperor himself sent us to come speak with you, and-" The Ursid- Tam says.

"Hang on. You don't mean Emperor Navarren, do you?" Meyu asks. "I'd no idea he was still alive..."

"I do not, and he is not. The late Emperor died with the Queen and Princess of Lubars when the Legion attacked their meeting site" Tam says. "His son is the rightful heir to the throne, and exiled Emperor of Antolia. He and his sister are being kept in a safe location where the legion will not find them"

"The demons were getting quite close to discovering their location when your forces started marching, so you have our thanks for that" The black haired man- Tulen says. "The resistance has people in every major city in the country, and secret ways in and out of all of them. If you would be willing to cede all or at least most of Antolia back to her rightful owners, then our forces will aid you in whatever ways you need"

"Careful boy" Meyu says. "You're not dealing with a regular occupation here. The Legion finds out that people hiding among the populace are aiding their enemies, they won't hesitate to burn away your cover"

"They haven't yet" Tulen says.

"You've been a nuisance to them thus far, a fly buzzing around their ear" Meyu says. "When you become a real danger, you may find out the hard way what getting swatted feels like"

"That's... a wise point" Tulen says. "What was your name again?"

"Meyu"

Oddly enough, Tulen seems to recognize the name. "Not... the Red Tiger though, right?" He asks. "Because that man would be about your age"

Meyu chuckles. "Been a long time since anyone called me that" He says. "I didn't think people still remembered the name"

"You know each other?" You ask.

"Only by reputation" Tulen says. "The blade of the Red Tiger has smashed every Antolian line that ever had the misfortune of standing across the field from him. It has been so long since anyone's heard of you, I thought you might be dead"

"Not yet" Meyu says. "Mercenary work's how I get by now. The pay's better, and I like getting to pick and choose where I go"

"So wait..." Madelaine says. "You were some kind of badass warrior when you were young?"

Meyu snorts. "I wasn't born a grumpy old man" He says. "Why do you look upset by this?"

"No reason..." Madelaine says.

"How'd you get a name like the Red Tiger?" You ask.

"My coat of arms as a Lubrian knight was a tiger" He says. "Got a little bloodstained over the years..."

"Huh... when do I get a cool war nickname?" You ask. "I feel like I've done enough to earn one by now"

"There are two ways to get a name like that. One is to start calling yourself something and hope it sticks, the other is to make your enemies afraid to speak your real name out loud" Meyu says. "I imagine you're getting to that point. Demons are harder to scare than the Antolians were... no offense"

Tulen shakes his head. "None taken" He says. "I'll be glad to see your strength brought to bear on our enemies, when the time comes"

"And that brings us back to the topic at hand" You say. "How do you intend to aid our invasion?"

"I... am not so sure" He says. "Meyu is right. The Legion will not hesitate to slaughter our people in droves if it means that some of our members' heads will rest upon the pile... I think we may have gotten too far ahead of ourselves"

"What will you do?" You ask.

"I will try to call together our leadership and work out a solution" He says. "In the meantime, we will leave one of our own with you, for when we wish to contact you again"

"Who would that be?" You ask

"Quria" Tulen says.

Quria, the young looking silver haired Elf, is surprised by this. She turns to Tulen, looking frightened.

"Quria will accompany you back to Lutain, inform your command of our capabilities, aid you in contacting our members within the city, and be on standby for further contact" Tulen says. "What do you say to that?"

"Is she okay with that?" You ask.

Tulen and Quria exchange a look. You get the feeling that there's more going on between them than just being 'fellow resistors'. After a long few seconds, Quria turns back to you and nods.

"So be it" You say. "As far as a solution goes... I suggest you stick to the shadows. Supply us with information on the Legion's movements and capabilities through Miss Quria, allow us to use your supply caches, and above all keep your members from interfering in our affairs. My troubles with your movement hardly began with the attack on my prisoner"

"That... I shall have to discuss with the others" Tulen says. "As I'm sure you know, our movement is a splintered one. The Hunters and my own faction will gladly aid you... the rest will take some convincing"

"We're willing to play nice if they are" You say. "They don't have to help us, talk to us, or even look at us. If they don't like the coalition, just tell them to stay out of the way"

"I will inform them" He says. "But we have lingered here too long..."

"Before you go... how is Stella?" You ask.

"She is well" Tam says. "She was missing an eye when our people broke her out, but we've since healed her and are keeping her safe. Shall I let her know you asked about her?"

"She thought I wouldn't?" You ask. "I mean... I practically started this entire invasion for her sake..."

"Really?" Madelaine asks.

"Well my first thought was to march out here alone and just stab anyone who got in my way, but that sounded dumber than my usual plans" You say. "So I went north instead and got an army to stab people with me"

Tulen raises an eyebrow. "So wait... you raised an entire army and declared war against one of the most dangerous forces the world has ever seen... for her?" He asks.

"Then we will see to it" Tulen says. "Is there anything you'd like us to tell her?"

"Yes. Tell her to be ready for the biggest hug she's ever recieved when I reach Kirando" You say.

"I will be sure to" Tulen says.

With that, the resistance members stand and start saying their farewells, leaving shortly after.

Once they're gone, Gerard "unmakes" the table, and Quria joins your group. She looks uncomfortable.

"So that was interesting" You say. "Who'd've thought they'd recognize Meyu of all people"

"Standin' right here" Meyu says.

"Well I guess we should get back to the outpost" You say. "Kanzka!"

Kanzka pops out of a hole almost right next to you, scaring the crap out of everyone. "Yes?" She asks.

"H-how long have you been down there?" You ask.

"I burrowed to this place after sweeping the perimeter several times" She says. "I felt it best that no one know of my presence"

"Including me?" You ask.

"There was no way to alert you without alerting others" Kanzka says. "Apologies, webwalker. But you had to be kept in the dark"

You sigh. "Well come on out. We're leaving" You say.

"As you wish" She says.

"Yes... so many I'd have trouble keeping count" You say. "I fought them in Sherton, in the forests near Bell's Run, in Locke, in the Tournament in Garhan, in my apartment in Garhan, in the skies over Lutain, on the ground in Lutain... why do you ask?"

"I-I was just... wondering" She says.

"And to be fair, my first encounter with a demon didn't go amazingly either" You say.

"How's that?" She asks.

"Well... I got a spear stuck in my chest for one" You say. "I kept that spear... though we may be seeing it again"

Quria looks curious, so you indulge her and tell her what the spear was...

"It, and the Puppeteer's knives were the first boons I collected, and they were taken back by the Legion in the attack on Locke" You say. "I saw the knives again at the outpost. Someone somehow gave them... life, if you can call it that. So it stands to reason that they'll do the same thing with the spear"

When she asks, you give her a brief description of knifey, along with the boon it came from...

"Very strange indeed..." Sh says. "How did you destroy such a creature?"

You arrive at the outpost, which is now an open field with some holes...

"I had to take the whole outpost with it" You say. "Overkill, yes. But the 'kill' part was most important at the time"

"Do you know anything about the boons?" You ask.

"Not much... we know they're dangerous, but not where they come from" She says. "None of the Legionnaire's we've interrogated have been willing to share that information"

"I've some insight to share on that" You say. "My interrogation methods are a bit more effective than most"

"I'm just gonna jump in there to counter that boast" Meyu says. "You never interrogated Cheska. She shared all of that information willingly, and you gave her stuff"

"And she gave me all of that information willingly because my method of being clueless and adorable worked" You say. "I turned a dangerous blood demon Legionnaire into a staunch ally who's become such a good person that she isn't even a demon anymore"

"You turned a blood demon back into a human?" She asks.

"Yeah, I'll let you hear about that from her. She's currently back in Lutain" You say. "Here comes the other prince"

Derrybell rides up to greet you as you approach the outpost. "Hey man. How'd it go?"

"Well enough" You say. "For the most part they want to work with us. They'll be deciding amonst themselves how best to do that. In the meantime they've sent Quria here to help us keep in touch"

"Nice to meet you" Quria says, giving Derrick a bow. "I am Quria. You must be Prince Derrick"

"Derrick is fine" Derrick says. "Anything else happen?"

"I got news on Stella" You say. "Apparently she's doing okay"

"That's good news" He replies.

"Oh, and Meyu used to be cool. Can you believe that?" You ask.

"Keep laughin' youngster" Meyu says. "This grumpy old man could still take you down"

"I guess the Antolians would remember the Red Tiger, wouldn't they?" Derrick asks.

"You knew?" Meyu asks.

"The Commander told me when I asked why we'd given your mercenary group such a high position" He says. "I figured you'd done something to earn that respect, I was just curious as to what"

"Oh..." You say. "I always just figured it was because we were friends with Madelaine"

"We weren't actually friends when we first joined the rebellion..." Madelaine says.

"Oh yeah" You say.

"Anyways. We're done here" Derrick says. "The troops are setting up for the march back to Lutain now"

"Find anything interesting?" You ask.

"Not really..." Derrick says. "Some of their armory was intact, so we're taking all of their weapons, but otherwise anything of interest was probably destroyed"

"Sorry about that..." You say.

Derrick shakes his head. "Better to lose that then to let that creature loose. You made the right call" He says. "Ready to go?"

"Yeah, let's get moving" You say.

You join up with the column and start marching back to Lutain. You decide to stay at the front of the column this time, and Quria sticks close to you.

You decide to ask Meyu if he'd like to do some sparring later as he goes off. He says maybe.

"You know, you look an awful lot like one of my employees" You say. "Are you a windspeaker as well?"

"No" She says.

"Oh..." You say. "Do you have any relatives?"

She shakes her head.

"I see..." You say, looking around as you think of something else to say... where is Kanzka?

You search the trees on either side of the road, and spot her moving alongside you there... she must really hate crowds...

"Ugh... this is too much walking. Remind me again why I didn't bring the Rook?" You ask.

"I dunno. Nobody said you couldn't" Derrick says.

"Dangit..." You say. "Coral never let me forget the Rook ever again"

Coral pokes out of your collar and gives you a thumb's up.

"You have a sprite in your shirt" Quria says.

"I always have a sprite in my shirt" You say. "Coral, Quria. Quria, Coral"

Coral comes out to greet her new friend, as you turn back to Derrick.

"You know, that little miming thing she did earlier was pretty clever" Derrick says. "But you may want to actually have some signals to make communication easier. A battlefield is no place to be playing charades..."

"Well it's a long march. We might as well work some of that out now..." You say. "Alright Coral, sit tight and pay attention"

Coral stops her examination of your elven companion, flying up onto her head and taking a seat.

You then go over all the possible things you'f have to communicate during a fight... stuff like whether or not to send support, what kind of support to send, whether there's a boon involved, etc.

By the time you're within sight of Lutain, Coral's got a whole bunch of new ways to communicate.

"I think that should be good" Derrick says.

"Nope. Just one more" You say, giving a thumb's up. "This is for 'I'm on my way'"

"Yep" You say. "Come on, Quria. You should meet the commander as well, and so should-"

...

"Okay there are no more trees. Where is Kanzka?" You ask.

On call, the arachnid bursts from the ground nearby. "I am here"

...

"Do I want to know?" You ask.

"I was burrowing underneath you, following the vibrations of your footsteps" She says.

"Well... could you stay above ground for now? I'd rather not have you accidentally tunneling through someone's basement" You say.

"As you wish. The walls and rooftops are much better-"

"And stay on the ground, close by, where I can see you, please" You say. "This is friendly territory. Nobody is going to ambush us"

"O-okay" She says.

"Who did you say this was again?" Derrick asks.

"It's a long story..." You say. "She was in the tournament up north..."

>1/2

"Interesting... I've heard little of your order, but I suppose obscurity is helpful for an order of assassins" Derrick says. "In any case, I'm glad to have you on our side"

Kanzka gives a slight bow, continuing to move along, looking uncomfortable about being out on the open...

You reach the barracks and head inside while Derrick slides off of Marybell's back to follow along. Marybell chooses to go her own way, looking for one of the other knights.

When you get to Altea's office, you knock on the door...

"Come in" Altea says. "Welcome back. How did things go out there?"

"Yuu destroyed the outpost" Derrick says as he steps in and sits down. "He can tell you the rest"

Altea turns to you.

"I destroyed the outpost" You say. "A crazy knife thing attacked me. It was my only option"

Altea takes a deep breath. "Alright, start from the beginning, and be sure to include where those two came from..." She says, pointing to Quria and Kanzka.

You tell her about how Michaela couldn't sense any demons, so you went in to investigate...

"You went in alone?" Altea asks.

"We were nearby to charge in at the first sign of trouble" Derrick says.

"But the first sign of trouble was something they couldn't help with..."

You continue your tale, about how you found all the demons dead, with those bone knives stuck into each of them...

Then the creature made its appearance. Knowing what it was made of you figured you couldn't call in the army, so you resolved yourself to destroy it solo. Once your mageblade failed, you just sucked in all the soul you could get and blew it straight to hell.

"When did you get that kind of power?" Altea asks.

"Right then" You reply. "It kinda clicked when I was fighting the knife monster. I was hoping to head outside the walls and practice a bit later"

"And who are these two?" She asks.

"Well you've been keeping my tiny Leviathan busy, and my Devil is off trying to get airborne. So I had to recruit this spider assassin and this elf to replace them" You say.

Altea raises an eyebrow. "What's Cheska doing, now?" She asks.

"Learning to fly" You say. "She grew wings after she got her heart back"

Altea gives you an incredulous look, then turns to Derrick, who nods.

"Interesting..." She says. "But seriously, where did they come from?"

"Alright, the Arachnid is Kanzka. We fought in the tournament up north, and according to the laws of her order I'm now her boss because I could walk on her webs" You say.

"The Webwalker tradition would make you an Akotzal. The last, or at least close to it, I assume" Altea says.

Kanzka nods.

"The thought of one of you creeping into my bedchamber to kill me used to keep me up at night... it's good to have you on our side" She says.

"You're afraid of spiders? I thought that was Rhea's thing" You say.

"Spiders don't frighten me, but the threat of assassination is a very real one" She says. "And what about her?"

"This is Quria. She's from the resistance" You say. "They sent her with us so they can get in touch"

"Ahh... glad to finally have some cooperation from them" Altea says. "What should I be expecting?"

...

"Q-quria that was directed at you" You say.

Quria panics and starts stuttering, so you decide to help her out.

"Meyu said some things that made them rethink their current strategy" You say. "They're going to discuss it among themselves and get back to us"

"Ah..." Altea says. "Well, thank you Quria. Anything help your people can offer is much appreciated"

"Y-you're welcome" Quria says.

Altea lets out a sigh. "Seriously I leave you alone for 5 hours..." She says. "You're dismissed for now. Derrick, you and I need to discuss something..."

"I'll leave you guys to that" You say. "Good luck, Derrick"

You bump fists with him and head out, figuring you'll take your new companions there and get them settled in, then check on Cheska.

"You should maybe cut back on telling everyone who I am..." Quria says. "Word spreads quickly, and-"

"I know. Thus far I've only told the people who needed to know, like Derrick, and Altea" You say. "I probably won't have to tell anyone else, but that means you need some other cover..."

You look her up and down. She does look an awful lot like Belladonna... maybe she could pass as a relative.

"How do you feel about maid dresses?" You ask.

Quria's face turns bright red.

"Kidding" You say. "I'll think of something, you just-"

"Yuuuuuuuuuuuu~! Up heeeeeeere~!" You hear Cheska call out.

When you look up, Kanzka shoves you out of the way. "Aerial attack, get down master!" She shouts, as she leaps into the air and grabs Cheska, wrapping her in webbing as she lands.

"Kanzka, no! That's Cheska, she's a friend!" You say.

"Oh..." Kanzka says, looking down at Cheska. "Sorry"

"This is very uncomfortable" Cheska says.

"Get her out" You say.

"As you command" Kanzka says, making quick work of cutting the webbing off. "Do your friends always ambush you from the air?"

"Only the ones who can fly" You say.

"Should I do something about that one?" Kanzka asks, pointing up behind you.

"White hair, icy horns, blue wings, kinda small?" You ask.

Kanzka nods.

"Nah, leave her. That's-" The next word is knocked out of you as Lyvia half lands on and half slams into your back. "-... Lyvia"

"Hello" Lyvia says.

"How come she doesn't get taken the heck down! This is unfair I tell ya" Cheska says.

"You have... interesting friends" Quria says.

"I like it that way. Keeps things exciting" You say.

"That's... good?" Quria asks.

"Of course" You say, helping Cheska to her feet once she's free of the web. "Is anyone else hungry?"

Something to consider for later: we've learned how to harness nearby soul to use as spells.

From what I remember, we were made stronger from the chaos engine way at the start of the story due to the major soul presence in the air.

We could consider trying to, instead of releasing that external soul, absorbing it to see if we get a boost as we did back then.
>>
>>2543685
Fuuuck, I was totally thinking about the same thing earlier too. I just forgot to suggest it because I wasn't home to post about it at the time.
Yeah, I think we should learn something like that so we can enhance our physical capabilities whenever we need to. We should also consider looking into 'buffing magic', because if we can refine the effect even more that'd probably be ideal.
>>
>>2544005
Lyvia is a pretty dope wizard, I'm sure she can coach us on how to use big fuck off spells better. I think zaine and Gerard can help us learning buffs or someone from the Mage regiment... I actually don't have a very good idea of who our Spellcasters are
>>
>>2544018

"So... you just let her ride on your back?" Quria asks, once introductions are through.

"Of course. She's a Queen. I don't have the authority to tell her not to" You say. "I mean I do... kinda. But I don't"

You feel a slight lift as Lyvia playfully flaps her wings. "I saw a big red pillar to the south. Was that you?" She asks.

"Yeah, I was gonna ask that too" Cheska says, plucking the last of the web off her clothes. "Y'know, before I was interrupted"

Kanzka is unperturbed by the obvious accusation.

"Yeah that was me" You say. "There was a dude who I had to absolutely obliterate so I learned how to harness every last bit of Soul in the surrounding area, then used it to blow both him, the outpost, and all the dead demons away"

"Yeesh... what'd he do to deserve that?" Cheska asks.

"Nothing, really. Under normal circumstances I might have thanked him... it..." You say. "You remember the Puppeteer's boon?"

"Weird tooth-knife belt?" She asks. "Yeah, what about it?"

"It was a creature made out of that boon" You say. "I couldn't find a way to kill it, and when I tried cutting pieces off the pieces just grew a new body and merged into a bigger, meaner creature"

"Hang on... the boon became a creature?" Cheska asks.

"Apparently" You say. "I'll ask Raven about it at some point"

"Think they'll do the same thing to Carthac's spear?" She asks.

"If they haven't already" You say. "But we can worry about that in a bit... how's the flying going?"

Cheska puffs up with pride. "I can stay airborne for a long time" She says. "I can't take off, or gain height without a lot of effort though... Jude said she'd see if somebody can show me how to make my own updrafts"

"Neat" You say. "And how's the studying going, Lyv?"

"Buhhhhh..." Lyvia says, slumping against your back. "I would like to accompany you on your next sortie"

You reach back and boop her nose. "Keep at it" You say.

When you reach the front door of the manor, you find Monique waiting for you... well, she's waiting for Cheska, but she greets you all the same.

"Certainly, sir!" Monique says. "Come with me to my office and I'll have a look"

You head inside, passing another maid along the way who you get to show Quria and Kanzka to their rooms. Kanzka is reluctant to leave your side, but you manage to convince her that no harm will come to you here.

Cheska ducks off to go eat as you pass the dining hall, leaving you with just Lyvia and Monique when you reach the nurse's office.

Monique gets you to take your shirt and pants off, then starts working on the largest of the wounds. Lyvia sits beside you to watch the process.

"She's been talking about you all day you know" Monique says.

"Who... Lyvia?" You ask.

"No, sir. Cheska" Monique says. "How did her little aerial ambush go?"

"Snubbed... unfortunately" You say. "My new bodyguard may be a bit overcautious"

"Aww..." Monique says.

"You are using healing fire?" Lyvia asks.

"That I am" Monique replies.

"I have heard it is difficult to learn" Lyvia says.

"I wanted to be a healer" Monique says. "I wasn't gonna let a little thing like element stop me... are you good with magic, Lyvia?"

"Lyvia is easily the most powerful mage we have" You say. "She's the queen of the northern realms"

"O-oh" Monique says.

"Don't worry about insulting her. She's pretty laid back" You say.

"Kneel before me!" Lyvia says.

"Bad Lyvia" You say, bopping her lightly on the head. "No subjugating my staff"

Lyvia puffs out her cheeks.

"But anyway, it's good that you're here. I wanted to ask you a few things..." You say.

Lyvia continues to pout until Monique's offering of candy satisfies her.

"There. Now what do we say?" You ask.

"Your offering is acceptable" She says. "Also thank you"

Lyvia smiles, then turns back to you. "What did you wanna know?" She asks.

"I wanted to ask about how you go about casting your big spells" You say.

Lyvia shrugs. "I just go for maximum ice covrerage" she says. "So a huge chunk of ice, or a whole bunch of spikes. I just make as much as I can"

"Pip knows her stuff" You say. "Even if you're the most powerful mage, I'd easily hand the title of 'most skilled' to her"

"Why's that?" Lyvia asks.

"Because out of the 4 knights, she is the best mage among them despite having the smallest reserves" You say. "Efficiency is her greatest strength. You'll never see her do anything big or flashy, but she always get the job done. Even with all your power you could still learn a thing or two from her"

"Efficiency" Lyvia says. "That was the word"

You chuckle. "And come to think of it, you with the mana handling skills of Pip would actually be pretty terrifying" You say.

"It would, would it?" Lyvia asks. "I will have to consider this matter further"

"But first, think you could show me how to be big and flashy?" You ask. "I've just discovered how to harness nearly unlimited power and I'd like to learn how to abuse it"

"Certainly" She replies. "I am prepared when you are"

"Cool" You say. "We'll finish up here, then go eat, then maybe head outside the city. I don't have a ton of control over it, so I'd rather not risk any lives"

"Well, we're all done here" Monique says.

"Really?" You ask, looking yourself over. "But there are still cuts"

"Little ones" She replies. "Not worth the energy, since they'll heal in a day or so and won't cause you any pain"

"I guess I'm just not used to having little cuts..." You say.

Not that I can think of.

As a side thought though. We should experiment to see if soul healing is a thing we can do.

I still want to try using it against diseases. The issue mana healing seems to have is that it heals the disease along with the patient. Soul is on the other side of the spectrum and I wonder if you perhaps inject small amounts to purge an illness.

"But you're the expert here, and I've walked around with worse" You say, as you throw your pants back on. "I ever tell you about the time I got a spear stuck in my chest?"

"Which one? According to Cheska that's a fairly regular occurence" Monique says.

"Good answer" You say, stopping before putting your shirt on. "Maaaaybe I should change this..."

"That would be wise" Monique says. "Give it to me, I'll see if we can wash the blood out and mend it for you"

Monique follows you up to your room, where you change into fresh clothes and hand her the torn, bloody ones. Then you thank her and go to the dining hall.

You walk over to the empty seats next to Lily and Daisy, sitting down one seat away and leaving the one right next to them for Lyvia. You figure it'd be good for her to have some friends her age, especially after how well she got on with Gabriella.

"Who's this?" Lily asks.

"This is Lyvia" You say.

Lily gasps. "Gabby told us about you!" Lily says. "Did you really build a whole palace by yourself?"

The devils begin bombarding Lyvia with questions. She seems put off a bit at first, but quickly warms up to them.

...

You know... Gabby is a lot more mature that the devils. Perhaps introducing the most powerful ice mage the world has ever seen to to those mischievous little runts may not have been the best idea...

Ah well. You're sure it'll be fine. You decide to let them enjoy themselves, and turn your attention to Elizabeth.

"Has she eaten already?" You ask Lola.

"Yes sir" Lola says.

"Cool" You say, tickling Liz's nose and getting your finger nibbled on. "So what do you think, Quria?"

Quria stops eating, surprised to find herself suddenly put on the spot. "A-about what?" She asks.

"I dunno. Everything" You say.

"This place is lively" She says. "You are all much happier than I thought you'd be, considering the situation..."

"How so?" You ask.

"Well, you're at war... aren't you?" She asks.

"And we're winning, thus far" You say.

"Yes, but..."

"But the rest of the country still suffers, I know" You say. "Hard to spread the cheer with no cheer to spread"

Quria gets a difficult expression, choosing to change the subject. "Who is the child?"

"Which one?" You ask.

"The one wrapped around you" She says.

"Oh, this is Liz" You say. "She lost her parents to the Legion during our invasion"

"So she stays here?" Quria asks. "Does this town have no orphanage?"

"This is the town's orphanage" You say.

"This is the lord's manor, is it not?" She asks.

"Well it was technically Belladonna's idea first, but I ran with it because it felt right" You say. "I hope to turn Lutain into a place of prosperity, so when the dust settles on the Legion all the people whose homes have been destroyed will have a place to turn to"

You look around the table, seeing that a few other people are listening in... namely Fran, Meyu, Cheska...

"Besides, look at this tiny little thing" You say, pointing to Liz. "Isn't she the cutest? I would be the happiest guy in the world if I could fill this house with things that were even half as cute as her"

Quria gets a strange smile. "It seems all of our sources on you were at least part correct..." She says.

"Oh?" You ask.

"The rumors make you out to be some kind of unstoppable, bloodthirsty monster" She says. "But it seems as though Stella was much closer to the mark..."

"I'm not sure Stella ever saw that side of me" You say, stroking Elizabeth's hair. "It's fine to be unstoppable and bloodthirsty when there's blood to be thirstin' for and people trying to stop you, but I couldn't imagine being like that all the time"

"I don't think very many people have seen that side of you" Cheska says. "I'd say most of us are in this room..."

"What about everyone in the stadium up north?" You ask.

"That was just you looking to win. You weren't out for blood" She says.

"So when have I been out for blood?" You ask.

"Bell's Run" Meyu says.

"I was trying to stop the ritual there, not just-"

"Not the ritual, after the explosion, if we're talking about real bloodthirst" Meyu says.

You go to respond, but the memory hits you kind of hard... Meyu's right. You wanted that Inquisitor's blood and nothing else. Looking back, you know that it was a bad idea. But at the time...

"Yeah... maybe we should change the subject..." You say. "Children and all..."

You chat with Fran for a while about the Archivists and how their work is coming along, catching bits and pieces of conversation as Quria informs herself on the last few months of Lubrian affairs.

After dinner is brought in and you finish eating, Lily and Daisy start trying to drag Lyvia off to play with them...

"Weren't we going to do some spellcasting?" You ask Lyvia.

Lyvia stops, looking torn. "Uhh..." Lyvia says. "I did, but..."

"It's alright. Do want you want to do" You say.

Lyvia considers her choice for a moment, then hops up to give you a peck on the cheek before running off with the devils.

"Dang... I was so sure she'd choose me there" You say.

Cheska laughs. "Maybe you should have pitted yourself against someone less convincing" She says.

"I'll remember that for next time" You say. "For now I'm glad to see her making friends, but I still have to practice"

"Need a hand?" Cheska asks.

"Nah. I should probably be good. I just wanna see what I can do with this" You say. "If you want you can head to the roof to watch the lightshow"

"Maybe I will" Cheska says.

You get up and head to the door, recieving a longer-than-usual hug from Cheska before heading off.

You grab the Rook this time, not really wanting to walk everywhere after all that marching, and head first ot the barracks. There you let Altea know what you're plann, and ask for suggestions on your location. She points you to a rocky spot near the city, and tells you she'll have the airships avoid going overhead.

Then you thank her and head back out to the spot she mentioned. It's secluded, and there's some big rocks you can use as targets.

After parking the Rook a decent distance away and making sure no one is around, you start gathering power. It doesn't come in from as far as it did the first time, but it's still much more power than you're used to working with.

Now that it's in your hands you... didn't actually think this far ahead.

What the heck are you going to do with this?

Your head spins trying to come up with something. You could try to bring it in and strengthen yourself, the way the Chaos engine did when you first went to Mortifas...

But then you remember what happened when you did that wrong... the energy that arced out from your body and burned you, the force that brought the building down around you...

Maybe you'll try something else.

Your mageblade is probably the safest method, but you didn't come all the way out here to be safe. You came all the way out here so you could mess around with this and blow some stuff up!

You point your hand at one of the rocks, releasing some of the energy forward in a beam. It's difficult to keep it tight along the whole length, but the effect is worth it.

A huge chunk gets blown out of the solid stone, sending chunks everywhere. You form the ball in your hand into a shield, keeping it up until the barrage stops, then turning it back.

You take a breath and admire your new desctructive capabilities, then you fire another beam, letting the energy you expended go back into the air.

From that, you create soul bolts from all around you to shoot down the flying rocks. Most of them miss, making you summon up another shield. You'll have to work on your aim. That method you came up with yesterday was effective, but it's too much setup to use in an actual fight.

You then release all of the energy, only taking a little bit back to find out where the sweet spot is as far as charge time for these beams goes. It's quicker than you expected, and in no time you're firing them from just about everywhere, completely pulverizing the rock you were using as a target.

"Effective, wouldn't you say Coral?" You ask.

Coral holds out a thumb's up.

"But I did promise Cheska a lightshow..." You say, reaching out to bring in energy again. "Let's make good on that..."

You take a quick jog as you continue gathering energy, keeping at it until you've hit a critical mass.

Then you reel your hand back and slam it forward, firing all of that energy like a simple bolt. But it's not a simple bolt. You embue it with the same properties you used to break into the prison on the night of the siege.

The bolt hits a boulder a fair distance away, turning the entire thing red.

You watch as the redness grows... and grows... and grows...

"I might not be out of range of this" You say, checking around for the Rook. It's still a fair distance away, so you head towards it.

When you get halfway there, all the sound disappears. You look back at the boulder to see why, and notice it smoking.

...

Your magic doesn't produce heat. Why is it smoking?"

No... the boulder is getting smaller. That isn't smoke, it's dust. The boulder is being destroyed.

You watch as it crumbles to nothing under the force you shot into it. Then once it's gone, there's nothing to contain all that power.

There are three smaller bursts, like shockwaves. The first blows past you, the second slams into you, and the third knocks you off your feet.

Oh this could be bad. You get back to your feet and hop on the Rook, taking whatever energy you can give to it and speeding away.

Behind you, the real blast happens. It's... slow. A pillar of soul that fires straight up, then takes its time expanding.

It doesn't get as far as you expected, losing its steam and disappearing after a few moments. But when you go back to see what's happened, its destructive power becomes clear.

Everywhere the pillar touched, there's nothing but dust. Like at the outpost, the clouds have a big hole in them.

Out over the city, the blast disturbed the winds enough that you see the active airships righting themselves.

"Okay. I say we keep that one up our sleeves for when we absolutely, positively need to kill something" You say to Coral. "And if anyone asks, that boulder had it coming. I'd plant a knife on its corpse, but I'm not sure if there's anything left of it..."

"I think I'll stick to some smaller stuff now... y'know, stuff that won't blow our ships out of the sky" You say.

You find a new target and work on other things.

You start out by seeing how many soul bolts you can lob all at once, but creating so many at once is difficult. It's much simpler to fire them in sequence, even if it seems like you're firing them all at once. You rapid fire them from all around you at the target, adjust the aim so that all of them are hitting, and watch the fireworks.

Once you're satisfied with that, you try to work out ways to work this new power into your other spells.

Not having to cast springboards from your body makes them much more useful. Before you would have to make them under your feet as you were stepping, meaning that they wouldn't be fully formed when your weight went on them, and they'd sink a little no matter what you did.

Now they can be complete when your foot hits them, allowing you to make air-paths for yourself when you need to get somewhere. You play around a little with that, then see how long you can keep one going.

Turns out the answer to that question is "not long". Not because they're difficult to maintain, but because it's hard to move them around when your weight is on them, and it's difficult to balance on them when they don't move.

You decide to work on that more later, making some progress with your other spells before demolishing this new rock with beams again.

"Gods that's fun" You say. "Now, time to-"

Rolled 66 (1d100)

You remember the Chaos engine, where they tossed you and Ilica. You punched open a solid steel door there, and you haven't been able to do anything like that since.

Although looking back now, there was most likely much more going on than just a punch. Even with super strength, you couldn't just punch a steel door without breaking your hand... but you don't remember it hurting at all.

But you can work on how you did that later as well, along with a whole bunch of other things. Right now replicating that strength would do.

So you bring the energy into your core... slowly so that you don't overload yourself. You feel it fill you up and move through your limbs.

But you don't feel stronger, just... fuller.

"How come I could do this on instinct when I was an idiot, but I can't figure it out now that I'm smart?" You ask. "Come on, Yuu. You went to college, you're smarter than this"

You think you get it now. It's becoming much clearer.

If you just bring the soul into you, it does nothing. You have to channel it.

So you do, into your arm. It feels the same way as it did in Mortifas, but you don't feel stronger... until you punch the ground.

The energy releases upon contact, putting far more force into the punch than you ever could have. You could see this breaking a door.

You give that a few more tries. It comes easily enough that you could make use of it in combat, even when you try it with your bucklers and your blades out.

Once you're satisfied you sit down and take a break, letting Coral rest in your lap so you can feed her a dried berry.

"You know, this kind of force will be nice to have... but it kinda sucks that I basically can't practice within the city anymore..." You say.

Coral munches on her berry, not reacting but it's clear she's listening.

"And I'll have to be careful with it so allies don't get caught in any of this..." You say. "Should be worth it though. I might get a few of the builders together to make up a wall, just to see if I can destroy it"

Coral gives you a thumb's up.

"Yeah, that'll be quite the show" You say, scratching her head. "But for now, I've managed to get dust everywhere. Let's go hit the baths"

That's all for tonight!

Next thread may be on Saturday, though I might take some time off to prep for my trip. I'll let you guys know sometime soon which one I decide on.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time.
