Okay... when you gave that rousing speech earlier you figured you'd be riding into battle, not riding around town waiting for battle...

To the west you hear the sounds of battle over the alarm bells, along with the occasional explosion. Above you the airships are in formation raining fire down on the enemy force.

Apparently Lyvia is up there with them, along with Altea.

Meanwhile you're on the ground getting periodic reports from every sector of the city, waiting for a bad one to come in, or not come in. The reports are managed by one of the carts behind you, and they have a bell to ring when they get something important.

"Feeling restless?" Cheska asks.

"Maybe a bit" You say. "We've been going around for hours..."

"It's been like 5 minutes" Cheska says.

"What!?" You ask.

"I'm just messin' with you. You're the one with the timekeeper" She says.

You sigh and give your wrist a check. It's been 2 hours.

Just as you're starting to wonder if you'll see any action tonight, the bell goes off. You slow down manuever yourself back to the reports cart.

"Problem?" You ask.

"Missing report from the south-east wall" The man in the passenger seat says.

"Think it's an attack?" You ask.

"Almost certainly" He replies.

"Well let's go" You reply.

"I'll see you guys there" You say, giving a thumbs up as you speed ahead. "Hey Cheska, did you know this thing can go faster now?"

"It can do whaAAAAAAAA-"

You max out the throttle and switch on the boosters, turning the buildings on either side into blurs.

In no time you're at the south east wall. Nothing looks outwardly wrong, but you get the feeling that's not the case.

You and Cheska head into the main watchtower, where the sprite would have been sent from, and find it's a bit of a mess.

There were 2 people here, both wearing Lubrian uniforms. One is dead, the other is huddled up in the corner mumbling to himself.

"Yikes" Cheska says.

"Hey, are you alright?" You ask the mumbling guard.

He looks up, and you see that he's missing an eye. There's some kind of weird fluid leaking out of the empty socket.

You stare at each other for a moment, before the man's eyes widen and he screams.

"NO SECRETS. NOT HERE" He says, jumping to his feet and swinging his sword at you.

It catches you off guard, but the swing is clumsy enough that you dodge it with ease.

The man turns, sobbing, to try again...

You step to the side again, this time hitting his sword arm with a chain flare to bind him to the ground.

"Snap out of it, soldier!" You say, in your most commanding voice. "What the hell happened here?"

"They came like bats! Millions and millions of bats! They flew into my skull and stole all my thoughts!" He says, still struggling against the flare's pull. "I don't know anymore! No more secrets! They took them all!"

He gives up on trying to break free of the flare, and instead grabs his sword with his free hand and starts trying to hack his bound arm off.

Before he can get in the swing, you smack his head with a well placed soul bolt, and he collapses.

"What the fuck" You say.

"My thoughts exactly..." Cheska replies. "You smell that?"

You take a sniff. You didn't before, but now that you're not focused on the fight you smell something sweet.

Cheska sniffs around, trying to find the source. She wretches as soon as she figures it out.

It's the liquid coming out of the soldier's eye socket.

"Just what he fuck is that stuff?" She asks.

"Maybe it's actually candy" You say. "Sure smells like candy..."

"So what, they ripped out the dude's eye and poured liquid candy into the socket?" She asks. "Actually, that sounds just brutal enough to be something they'd do..."

"Maybe..." You say. "But the Legionnaires aren't here anymore..."

"So we search" She says.

"We search" You reply.

You look around the room for clues, quickly gathering a few details that will help.

"If they tortured the soldier for information, then it's likely they know how we've been communicating" You say. "Could they have gone to another patrol spot?"

"Not likely. Demons can't use sprites, remember?" She asks.

"So they'll be close by" You say. "They would have left after learning that someone would come here when we didn't hear back. So for all we know we just missed them"

"They'd stay close by, somewhere they could watch for us" She says. "Wait for us to do our thing, and then ambush us while we looked for them since they know it's just the one force doing these checks"

"So we go out and look" You say. "Spring the trap and turn it on them"

"Sounds just stupid enough to work. Lead on" She says, adding with a smug look "My lord"

"Cut that out" You say.

You head out of the tower and scan the surrounding buildings. The other carts haven't caught up yet, so you're on your own for now.

They could be in any of these buildings, but each one looks like it has different qualities to it...

"Now which one..." Cheska says.

"That one" You reply before she can finish. "Definitely that one"

You walk over to one of the buildings, a small shop, and step inside. The place looks kinda familiar, and the door's been broken in.

There's definitely other people in here...

You walk in further, keeping quiet while scanning the room.

"I know you're here" You say. "Come out now, and I'll go easy on you"

Someone slowly comes up from behind the counter. In the darkness you can barely make out the face, but it looks sort of familiar.

Then they suddenly lunge at you. For a moment you're about to clise them open, but then you recognize them and jump to the side.

The long, serpentine body hits the opposite walls and crumples to the floor. It's Aenea. This is her shop.

You briefly wonder why you didn't recognize the place at first, but then decide you have bigger problems. She didn't jump at you, she was thrown.

You hop up onto the counter and come down blade first on the person behind it. You miss, but it forces them out of hiding.

A thrown dagger glances off your buckler as you bring it forward to deflect, and then you're forced to move as you discover a second person hiding back here.

The second person has a large axe that nearly demolishes the counter with a single swing. You won't be able to block that with your bucklers.

Either way, neither of these two seem to be carrying a boon, so you'll need to be on guard for a third person.

But that doesn't mean you don't have to deal with these two... in fact you're not in the best position right now. You're going to have to fix that soon...

... and you know just how to do that.

You backpedal, letting your bucklers cover as much of your back as they can while baiting the man with the big axe in.

He goes for an overhead chop, and you loose a flair at the demon behind you as you get out of the way.

Axe-man's chop almost cleaves dagger-girl in two, and while he's reeling from having destroyed his sidekick, you hit him with heartbreaker, ending the career of the dynamic duo.

...

Demonic duo might work better there. You'll have to remember that one so you can say it out loud next time.

Turning back to Cheska, you see why she didn't help you there. Aenea's eyes are fixed on hers, and they're glowing.

Cheska looks like she was frozen in place when she tried to help Aenea.

"Oi. Stop that" You say to the Echidna. "This one's friendly"

Aenea's eyes lose their glow, and she looks to you.

"Y-yuu?" She asks. "I wasn't... I didn't..."

Cheska collapses, and you have to leap forward to catch her. Nothing looks wrong, she's just asleep.

"What did you do?" You ask.

"Well I thought she was hostile so I put her to sleep" She says.

You sigh and try to shake Cheska awake, then ask Aenea-

"Well...that's over with. Are you alright?" You ask.

Aenea's eyes start to water, and she cries and sputters out words you barely understand.

Cheska starts to stir, and she opens her eyes. She looks thoroughly confused.

"Welcome back" You say. "Mind if I deal with this?"

She blinks off her tiredness and sits up. "Yeah... sure... go ahead" She says.

You leave her and go try to console the crying Echidna.

"Hey... hey... I know it was scary but it's over now" You say, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I need you to calm down and help me out, okay?"

She says another unintelligible thing, then throws herself into your arms and bawls into your shoulder.

Looking back you see that Cheska is still trying to figure out how she got on the floor, so you're on your own here.

But you do kinda need to know what happened here...

You sigh and give the Echidna a comforting hug, holding her tightly with one arm and stroking her back with the other. Then you run through all the different 'comfort-y' phrases.

Along with her arms, her head-snakes have also wrapped themselves around you.

When Cheska's finally standing, you decide that you can't delay any further.

"Alright Aenea, I need-... I need you to-... Aenea!" You say, finally using your commanding voice.

"Yes!" She says, releasing you, standing up straight and backing off a bit.

"I need you to help me out, okay" You say. "What happened here?"

It looks like she might start crying again, so you put a hand on her shoulder and ask again.

"Stay focused, Aenea. I need to know where those people came from, how many there were, and if any got away" You say. "Start from the beginning"

She steels herself and begins her tale...

She'd been sleeping up in the rafters, figuring she'd hide out in her shop rather than try to get to one of the crowded shelters.

The demons came in when she had come down to get some water, and she couldn't fight them off. One of them tried to put some kind of spike into her eye, but they used cark magic to seep into the floor and escape when you came in.

"So it was just 3 of them?" You ask.

Aenea nods.

"Tell me about the one that got away" You say.

Aenea describes the escaped demon as a black-feathered harpy. A blood-demon with both a sword, and a strange flesh weapon that they tried to put into her eye.

She says the flesh weapon looked like a spike-tipped tentacle with a handle... which is starting to sound familiar.

Once she's done, you give her your shoulder and let her get the rest of her tears out while you confer with Cheska.

"Sound familiar?" You ask.

"Ohhh yeah" She says. "That's Raven"
"Is she... a raven?" You ask.

"Fallen Angel" Cheska says. "Angels change more than most when they become demons. Their magic turns dark, their wings turn black... though she didn't have a boon when I was with them"

"That's because it's new" You say. "It matches the description I got from my maids of a boon they tested on Stella when they brought her here"

"It's a boon that goes into someone's eye and what... drives them crazy?" She asks.

"We might get to find out from the source" You say.

"She'll be hard to follow if she's travelling as a little shadow pool" She says.

"She won't be. Only Devils can stay Seeped for long periods" You say. "A little something I learned from Fran while I was at the Archive. This Raven will only be able to stay down for 10 seconds at most"

"So we try to find where she had to come up, then look" Cheska says.

"Let's get started" You say.

You take a second to let Aenea know what's going on, and telling her that there will be more soldiers arriving shortly. You tell her to go to them, tell them about the soldier in the tower, and let them know where you're headed, then possibly ask for transport to somewhere safe.

When you're certain she understands, you take a look around the shop.

You didn't see anything leave, which narrows down the exits that the angel could have taken. You settle on the open window just out of sight of the entrance.

The window leads to an alley behind the shop, where the ground is muddy and wet. You see a slight trail where the angel's seeped form must have traveled, and where it ends you see footsteps.

You hop out the window and follow the footsteps into the street, where they end after a few muddy footprints. But that doesn't matter, because you can see where she is now.

She's further up the street fighting with a few other people who you don't recognize. You don't know if they're friendly, but they'll have your thanks for keeping her busy for you...

You take a breath, and then dash down the street towards the scuffle with Cheska in tow.

The Angel spreads her wings when she notices you approaching, sending out a wave of darkness in all directions. The wave doesn't hurt the people she's fighting, instead it binds them to the ground.

Before any of them can fight off the forces holding them in place, the darkness shudders and impales 4 of them. The others are released, but seem put off by their comrades sudden deaths.

The Angel says something, but it's quiet enough that you can't hear.

"Oh shit. Is she doing what I think she's doing?" Cheska asks. "Stop her! Now! Stop her!"

You hold out your arm and launch your floating blace in the Angel's direction.

Not a direct hit, but it does cut her wing pretty bad. Bad enough that she won't be flying any time soon, at least.

It also distracts her from whatever she was doing, forcing her to defend herself as you blade comes around again and Cheska starts whipping fireballs her way.

With her on the defensive, the three remaining fighters all rejoin the battle... only for one of them to get cut down in seconds.

The other goes down as his shadow comes out of the ground and impales him, and the final one gets stabbed in the eye by the strange flesh weapon.

Before she can do anything with that, you're on top of her. She holds her ground fairly well against you. As swordfighters go, she might even be better than Derrick.

But this is more than a swordfight.

The combination of your attacks and Cheska's flames overwhelm her defenses, and she quickly finds herself backed into a corner.

You put your sword to her throat and ready a disruptor, then-

You take the flesh weapon away and toss it to the ground.

"Alright. Not bad" She says. "I don't suppose you two would be interested in round two?"

You take her regular sword away as well then toss her to the ground, laying her out on her stomach and straddling her so you can bind her hands.

"Oo! Rough boy. I didn't mean round two like that..." She says, shifting herself to rub her butt against you. "But I wouldn't argue..."

"Sorry Raven, this one's too dense for the slutty routine to work" Cheska says.

"Shame" Raven says. Her body starts to darken as she seeps into the floor, but you fire a disruptor through her torso and it stops.

"That doesn't work either" You say, creating crystal bindings around her wrists.

"... fuck" She says. "Can't be beaten, seduced, snuck away from... how do people beat you?

"They don't" You say.

"What? No, I was just saying that" Cheska says. "He's totally seduceable"
"I am not" You reply.

"You absolutely are" Cheska says. "I saw the 'Oh goodness' look you got when she started rubbin' on you. Don't even try to deny it"

"I did not get an 'oh goodness' look" You say, as you take your belt off and bind the angel's wings with it. "What does that even look like?"

"It looks like... uhh..." Cheska makes a face, her eyes widen a little, and her mouth hangs open a bit. "It's the univesal face that a dude makes when the blood is vacating their brain"

"The blood was not vacating my brain" You say.

"I've done that move many times" Raven says. "It always gets the blood flowing to the right places"

"Nobody asked you!" You say. "Now tell me what that weapon does, or your blood is going to many places. If you catch my meaning..."

Raven seems to have the same nonchalant attitude about the Legion that Cheska did, and is quick to spill about what her weapon does under the threat of death.

"It doesn't brainwash a person. It just takes away their ability to say no" Raven says. "Anything you ask, they have to answer, any commands you give them, they have to do"

"What did you do to the soldier?" You ask.

"Got all the information about your army's position and how you all coordinate" She says. "Then I told him to attack the next person who talked to him and we left"

"And what were you planning on doing with this information?" You ask.

"What do you think? Cause a breakdown inside the city, draw the main force away from the walls" She says. "I was personally going to make some people riot... until those people attacked me"

"Who were they?" Cheska asks.

"Dunno, they never introduced themselves" Raven says.

"What were you trying to do with them?" You ask.

"Oh, sweetie. I don't think you're capable of doing this the hard way. No offense" She says. "You don't really look like the torturing type, and I am remarkably hard to break"

You give her a wicked smile, and start moving the boon forward.

"Carts... they were using carts" Raven says. She looks defeated.

"What do you think?" Cheska asks.

"I could catch them" You say. "But we have to deal with this first..."

Just in time, Meyu's cart rolls up. They come in and you tell them the situation. The sprite handlers call for another group to secure the Angel, but you have a decision to make...

At this point you've got the only cart that can catch up to the demons who got away. If they're using carts, then they'll have to take the road.

If they make it to their destination, they do so with critical information that does not beling in enemy hands. If you can stop them, you can stop that.

With that in mind, you-

You let Meyu and the others know what's happening when they come in to investigate.

"So she's braced, bound and ready for prison" You say. "I'd take her there myself, but I have to chase after her comrades"

"Why?" Madelaine asks.

"They're getting away with all the information she got from the guards" You say.

"And you have to chase them for it?" Madelaine asks.

"He's right" Meyu says. "That's a lot of information that we don't want in Legion hands. Get going"

"Let the Commander know what's going on here. I'll be back shortly" You say, before turning to Cheska. "You coming?"

"Of course" She says.

You talk with Meyu for a few moments more, giving him any more info he might be missing, then head out and retrace your steps back to the Rook.

From there you speed back to the southern gate and get the soldiers to open it a little so you can pass. As soon as you're clear they shut it and lock it behind you, and you hit the boosters.

You can just barely make out a cart gunning it down the southern road. They're pretty far away.

But you've got the faster wheels, and it's a long way to Riverhold. You just need to catch up...

I don't know if we still have the expanded range or not from earlier.
But if we do, that's a focus success? Maybe.
>>
>>2481603
Your base range is +/-8, due to the time you spent at the archive. You don't have a bonus anymore, but you still hit it.
>>

It is indeed a focus success
The range is 8+/- the Focus roll.

You follow them for a few minutes at full speed, before making a sudden turn and veering off the road into the tall grass on the side.

The land ahead is almost completely flat, save for the occasional small river or pond. The grass is tall enough to hide the Rook, but not so thick that you can't see through it. So you use it as cover for your approach, not slowing down in the slightest.

At your speed you catch up to them in no time, emerging from the grass right beside them and shouting
"Surprise!" as you blast one of their wheels off.

The cart veers to try and correct itself, but then it rolls over... and over... and over...

You grip the brakes and cut the boosters just in time, and even then you almost hit the rolling cart.

No need to check the demons inside. You watched all of them get ejected as the cart rolled, and they did not land softly so...

"Yeah. They're definitely dead" Cheska says.

"Should've worn their seatbelts" You say.

"Their whatnows?" She asks.

"You guys don't have seatbelts?" You ask. "What about airbags?"

Cheska shakes her head.

"I think I know what Lutain's business should be now" You say. "Auto manufacturing. We could make a killing just from R&D alone"

"You wanna focus on the task at hand?" Cheska asks.

"Right... sorry" You say.

"Keep an eye on the bodies, I'm gonna check inside the cart" You say. "If any of them move, I want to smell barbecue"

"Yessir" Cheska replies.

You head over to where the cart stopped rolling and take a look. It stopped rolling on its side, so it takes some work to get in.

The windows are smashed, and the inside is a wreck. But you figured it would be like that. You drop down into the driver's compartment and peek into the back.

You see some open storage chests... they have weapons, armor... some papers...

You reach in to grab the papers, when a second chest catches your eye. This one's smaller than the other, and it's only open a little. So you pop it the rest of the way open...

"That... that is a lot of spell bombs" You say, as the fist sized metal orbs pour out.

You hear a strange hissing noise, and notice that one of the bombs has a crack in it. Dropping out of the chest must have jarred it enough that the energy is starting to escape. It starts as a slow release, but if you're right then it's going to explode very soon.

...

Right in your face...

With a chest full of other spellbombs...

You reach in and grab it. The sphere sends electricity up your arm as soon as you touch it, but you grip it tightly and toss it out of the cart away from where Cheska is.

Peeking over the passenger's side doorway, you watch it explode and send bolts of lightning arcing everywhere. Just to be safe, you put up your bucklers to guard the cart from any strikes.

"What the fuck was that?" Cheska asks.

"Spellbomb" You say, quickly checking the rest to make sure none of them are about to go off. "This thing's full of them"

"Fuck" Cheska says. "Someone will have seen that. We should get back"

You reach back in and grab some of the papers. They all look like they've got some info written on them, so you stuff them back into the leather carrying case they came out of and put them under your arm...

"Cheska get to the Rook" You say, as you reach in and pull the pin on one of the spellbombs, chucking it beck into the cart as you hop back out. "We're leaving"

"You just set off another spellbomb didn't you?" She asks.

"Not important! We've got a minimum safe distance to get to! Go! Go!" You say, shooing her on towards the Rook.

You're both on in no time and you max out the throttle almost immediately, riding back into the tall grass and away from the crash site.

After a few seconds the spellbomb goes off, rupturing all of the others and causing a massive, multi-elemental explosion that you can't help but look back at.

All at once you see beams of light, tendrils of darkness, tree branches, bolts of lightning, plumes of fire, chunks of dirt, blades of wind, and shards of ice all bursting from the wrecked cart. It's like the 8 elements are all vying for dominance over the wreckage.

"So pretty..." Cheska says. You look back and see her staring at the explosion, her eyes filled with wonder.

It's a nice sight, even compared to the explosion... though it passes quickly when she notices you watching her.

"I mean... pretty cool as far as explosions go" She says.

"That's not what I heard..." You say, giving her a wry smile.

"W-well... you heard wrong" She says.

You chuckle at the obvious front, reaching back and giving her shoulder a squeeze.

"Aww. You don't wanna see if the other demons have more of those things?" She asks.

"I'd love to, but we got the jump on these guys. You never know, maybe the next ones might try to seduce me" You say.

"Oh come on! You made the face" She says. "I've seen that face first hand. How do you think I convinced you to let me out in the first place?"

"You did not seduce me. You willingly gave up important information, and proved yourself willing to work with us" You say.

"And let you see me naked" She says.

"Accidentally" You say.

"Well yeah, but you made the face" She says.

"I did not make the face" You say.

Cheska giggles and hugs you, gently stroking your cheek and neck with her tail as she coos in your ear. "Whatever you say, Mr. Cutie" She says, giving your earlobe a nip.

...

"There! That face!" She says.

You let out an exhasperated sigh, and start the Rook back up. "Come on. Let's go before someone finds us"

Cheska laughs as you start moving.

By the time you return to Lutain you find that the siege has spread past the west gate to cover the south gate as well. The force is large enough that you won't break through on your own, so you're forced to back out and go to the east gate to get back in.

They let you in quickly, and shut the gates just as fast lest the enemy try to force in after you.

Pip comes down to greet you when you come in.

"Welcome back, Yuuster" She says. "Mission accomplished?"

"We got 'em" You say, handing her the leather case you got from the cart. "Even nabbed some of their stuff along the way"

"Niiiiiiiice. We'll get to work on these" Pip says. "You feelin' okay? You look a little red"

"Don't worry about that" You say. Behind you Cheska giggles. "How goes the fight?"

"I think they're starting to waver" She says. "I'm sure you noticed that they're now making an attempt at the south gate. That means we're in phase 3"

"Phase 3?" You ask.

"Phase 1 was the initial trading of magic and missile. Phase 2 was the siege of the east gate and their attempts to break in" Pip says. "Phase 3 is where they realize that their tactics aren't working, so they're trying other things"

"How many phases are there?" You ask.

"5. 4 is when they start packing up to leave. 5 is when they're retreating and we try to chase them down and blow up as many as we can" Pip says. "Oh yeah. Was that big explosion out there you?"

"Yeah. The getaway cart was full of spellbombs. I set them all off so the Legion wouldn't be able to get anything from it" You say.

"Alright. Cool. I'll note that in my report" She says.

You say your goodbyes to Pip and her troop, then get Coral to lead you back to Meyu.

When you catch up to them, they're taking a break outside of a house. The house's owner is outside speaking with Zaine, while the others are all eating.

"Heyo" You say as you pull up with them.

"Welcome back" Meyu says. "You get 'em?"

"I got 'em. You may have seen the explosion from here" You say.

"I told you that was him" Madelaine says. "Now come on. A bet's a bet"

Meyu rolls his eyes and fishes out a few coins from his pocket. "Now that was... 2 coppers?"

"Silver" Madelaine says, holding out her hand. "And it was 3 of them"

Meyu drops the coins into Madelaine's hand, and she puts them away with a satisfied smile. "He thought the Legion messed something up, but I guessed that only you could screw up so badly that we could see it all the way over here" She says.

"That wasn't a mess up. I set off those bombs on purpose..." You say.

"You still did it. That's what matters" Madelaine says. "Oh, here. We've got food and coffee. Figured we'd take a break while things sound quiet"

"Did we bring this with us?" You ask.

"Your maids packed it all up for us while you were napping" Meyu says.

You get off the Rook and take the sandwich and little mug that's offered to you. "They're good maids" You say.

"What happened to the guard who attacked me?" You ask, as you sip your coffee. It's not bad, though the best coffee you've had yet is stll the stuff Aenea made...

"He's in the infirmary under heavy guard" Meyu says. "Healers are working on fixing his eye, but we can't be sure how he'll act when he wakes up"

"He's still out?" You ask.

"Like a light" Meyu says. "You might've hit him a bit hard..."

"He started it... even if he wasn't in his right mind" You say. "I'll have to visit him when he wakes up... what about Aenea, the Echidna from the shop?"

"Sent her to your house" Meyu says. "The holdfast is basically full, and she seemed to know you so I figured she'd be safe-ish there"

"How did you meet that lady anyway?" Madelaine asks.

"I stopped by there to get baby supplies for Elizabeth" You say. "We talked for a while. She does this really neat thing with her eyes. Right, Cheska?"

"Ah yes, the Echidna's eye" Meyu says. "Any one of them could easily take over and rule a country with that kind of power... but they just don't. It's mind boggling"

"Some people just have stronger morals than others" Madelaine says.

"Yeah, but an entire species, and all of them are just..." Meyu says. "Well, I shouldn't argue. Not like it's a bad thing"

You take a bit of the wrap... like... thing, then turn back to Meyu. "We hear anything from the east?" You ask.

"Not much. They're a little busy I imagine" Meyu says.

"Who's leading that force anyway? I know the Commander is up on the airship doing general coordination..." Madelaine says.

"You didn't know? It's Derrick" Meyu says.

"Really?" Madelaine asks. "Wow. That's gotta sting for you, huh Yuu? One prince leading the entire army, the other on patrol duty..."

Yuu's not really the "army commander" type. He's more the "Strategic weapon" type. we'll not mention thats a term usually used for bombs and stuff

"We serve different purposes in this army. Derrick is a leader with a knack for strategy. I am a strategic weapon with a knack for shredding boon holders, and the only one who can ride the Rook" You say, as you take another bite out of your wrap.

"You could probably get a command position if you wanted it" Meyu says.

"No, I get what he's saying" Cheska says. "Yuu enjoys his spot on the front lines. In fact I'd go so far as to say he'd rather be out on the east wall right now"

"I'm fine here. More enemies I can hit with my sword" You say. "I mean... if more get in"

"Well it's gonna be a long night... never know what'll happen" Meyu says.

"Oh yeah. Did we ever find out who those guys Raven killed were?" You ask. "They weren't ours, I don't think"

"They looked like townsfolk, but they were much better armed than your average peasant..." Meyu says. "Our best guess is Antolian Resistance"

"Seems weird that they'd come after her specifically" Cheska says. "I mean... sure she got into the city, but they couldn't have known that"

"They've been dealing with the Legion for quite some time" Meyu says. "Could be that boon of hers's wreaked some havoc on theirs, and they've been tracking her looking for revenge"

Something occurs to Meyu, and you're pretty sure you know what it is...

"You don't think they'd try to get into our prison to kill her, do you?" You ask. "They'd have to get past our soldiers to do that, and we still kinda need her to talk..."

"They don't like us, remember?" Cheska asks. "It's worth checking"

You sigh, finishing off your wrap and handing the mug back to Madelaine. "This shouldn't take long" You say.

"You go on ahead. I'm gonna stick around here" She says. "You probably don't want these guys seein' you parading around with a demon"

"Alright" You say. "But before I go, did you know this girl before? You seemed kinda familiar with her before"

"We met a few times. She's easy enough to get along with as far as blood demons go" Cheska says. "Just remember: don't make the face"

You wave her off and start up the Rook, speeding off toward the jail.

When you arrive, nothing looks amiss. The guards are outside, and-...

Hold on. Prisons don't usually have guards posted outside. Not this many, at least... It looks like all of them are out here.

"There something wrong?" You ask them as you get off the Rook.

"Nothing wrong, sir" The guard replies.

These guys aren't northmen, or Lubrians. They're Marshal Keeling's men, Antolian guards. Lubrians or Northmen wouldn't let anyone from the Resistance inside, but these men...

You hate to have to question their loyalty, but you need that demon alive. You head inside, but one of them stops you.

"We haven't seen any resistance around here" One of the guards says.

"Really? So if I walk through this door- and I am going to get through this door -I'm not going to find anyone other than the prisoners who are supposed to be here?" You ask.

No answer. The guards look nervous.

"You're dismissed. All of you. Report to Captain Marshal and hope to the gods that I don't find my prisoner dead by the time I get in there" You say. "Go"

Despite the fact that they outnumber you 10 to 1, the guards back off. Not only could you take them all on, but they'd most likely get jail time just for trying.

Once the guards have left, you go up to the door.

"Locked. Of course it's locked" You say. The door is heavy, solid wood. Your current repertoir of spells probably won't cut it here...

"Alright. If you guys are gonna make me break into my own god damn prison..." You say, pointing your hand at the lock.

You fire a bolt of energy into it, using a method you theorized back at the archive but never really tried. The energy doesn't immediately do anything, it just sits there and draws more energy, until it hits critical mass and-

BANG

"Piece of cake" You say, as you walk inside. That was effective, though you could see it being a bit messy if you tried it on a person. Maybe you'll stick to using it on materials, like armor, or other doors.

You've got your swords out and your bucklers up. Sure enough, there are people here trying to drag Raven out by her hair.

You give her credit, she's not making it easy for them. But it looks like they're about ready to give up on trying to kidnap her and just murder her... which can't happen. Not until you know what she knows.

So you clear your throat, drawing the strangers' attention.

"I believe my orders were 'keep her locked up. I want her alive for interrogation'" You say. "You guys aren't following those orders, which means you aren't my men, which begs the question: What are you doing in my prison?"

"This town doesn't belong to you!" One of them says "And you can-"

Another one shushes the first. "This one's killed many of ours. We're taking her with us" He says.

"She's killed some of mine too, so don't think that gives you any moral highground here" You say. "And she's got valuable information, which means she stays here"

"We're taking the demon" Another resistance member says. This time he steps forward, slapping his heavy mace against his hand.

"So you can all leave, and tell whoever told you to mess with our affairs that we'll have an easier time taking back your country if you help us, instead of getting in our way like you are right now" You say. "For instance, I could be out keeping the city safe right now. Instead I'm playing prison guard to keep you idiots from stealing our information sources"

You step forward again, this time spinning your floating blade up into firing position.

"Go" You say. "NOW"

The resistance force retreats, and you write up a quick note to Altea that the prison will be watched by Lubrians from now on, sending it off with Coral before turning your attention to the fallen angel.

Looks like she took a bit of a beating trying not to get taken, and her hair is a complete mess from all the pulling. The crystal bindings still have her hands held behind her back, and she has some trouble getting up off the floor...

Even if she is a murderer, letting her keep some small amount of dignity might help loosen her tongue. So you help her get into a sitting position. once she's up you notice that her clothing is pretty torn up, too...

Listen, I'll be honest. You don't have a fluffy tail so their's nothing you can do to manipulate me. Please tell me about Mahron and the black god.

Hmmm. I'm guessing that Raven was somehow affected by the Boons power since she didn't earn it... fortunate for us

"Is something wrong?" You ask.

"N-no. It's nothing" She says.

"Seems like it's something" You say. "Just tell me whatit is"

"I'm confused because I'm doing what you tell me to without really thinking, and telling you things I really shouldn't" She says.

You search her face for a moment, and see that she just looks really nervous.

"Sit down" You say.

She immediately sits down on the bench/bed.

"Stand up" You say.

She stands back up again.

"Spin around, get on your knees, now on all fours" You say, and Raven just does it.

"I-is it too late to ask you to be merciful?" She asks.

"Bark" You say.

Raven barks, her face turning completely red with embarrassment.

"Interesting..." You say. "Sit back down on the bench"

She gets up and sits on the bench again.

"Tell me how Mahron can stay in the Black God's Realm when no living person can even stand in a doorway to the place without dying" You say.

"I don't know. He's not like the rest of us" She says. "I've never seen anything of him but his eyes. He covers everything else"

"Everything?" You ask. "I thought he just wore a mask"

"Because the mask stands out when he's wearing armor" She says. "When he's not fighting, he still covers everything"

"Tell me again about the Boon" You say.

"He called it Willbreaker. If you can get it to touch a person's brain, it saps their willpower" She says. "They stay normal for everyone else, but they lose the ability to say no to... me..."

"What is it?" You ask.

"Fuck... uhh... it's... uhh... just that... uhhhhhh I have to use the bathroom!" She says.

"Tell me" You say.

"The way they act towards me is exactly the way I'm acting towards you, and I suspect that something backfired when you destroyed the boon" She says. "Especially given the fact that I told all those other guys to stick it up their ass when they gave me orders, but couldn't do the same to you"

>What say?

>>2482427
Tell her to do something to prove it. She could easily be playing this up to get us to let our guard down. A little embarrassment is nothing if it means she gets to kill us.

"I hate to say this... well I actually don't... but I'm finding this all hard to believe" You say. "Say something that will convince me"

She opens her mouth, then closes it... then she furrows her brow as she tries to fight against herself.

"Out with it" You say.

"There are more of us. We were 10 in total, not five. The other team Is making their way to the defenses on the east gate with enough spellbombs to blow the wall wide open" She says. "Oh god they're going to kill me..."

"Not while you've got info like that" You say. "As long as you're useful, you're under my protection. Now come with me, let's go confirm if anything you just said is true"

Raven stands up and follows you as you make your way back to the street.

"Tell me about yourself, Raven" You say. "What are two things you'd never want anyone to know about you"

"My name's not really Raven, it's Raphaela" She says. "I tell everyone that I became a demon by killing a bunch of guards, but I was actually a child prostitute who slit a bunch of people's throats as they slept"

"Like... night after night?" You ask.

"All at once" She says. "And to answer your next question: Yes. That was all at once too"

You grimace, but before you can inquire further Coral comes back. You send her off to the eastern gate, letting them know what's happening. Then you-

You tell Raven to follow, and though she clearly doesn't want to, she obeys.

The east gate is close by, so you go on foot.

"Alright. Tell me if you've heard the term Deviant Soul before" You say.

"Just once, before Mahron left for the other Realm" She says. "He said something about how one had fallen, and the Black God could give its power as a gift"

"So the Willbreaker was linked to Raligos..." You say.

"Who was what?" She asks.

"Shh" You say.

She tries to say something, but no noise comes out. She looks distraught.

"Alright, you can talk" You say.

"Oh gods, is this some kind of punishment for what I did to people?" She asks. "Because it's working. It's really working"

"Speaking of people. Tell me about Stella Lepol" You say.

"They brought her in from the raid on Locke. They brought me in to interrogate her" She says. "She spilled all the guild secrets, including how the cannon on the Pride works, then I told her to play dead when no one was looking"

"Why?" You ask.

"Because I thought it would be funny" She says.

"Tell me why" You say again, phrasing it as an order this time.

"Because I... urgh rg... felt sorry for her. She reminded me of my younger self when I used to cry for my parents. No one helped me then, so I figured I'd try something" She says. "They abandoned her in the dungeon when they thought she had died. Haven't heard anything about it since"

"Well if that was the truth, then thank you" You say.

"Oh, shove it up- you're... welcome" She says.

You get her to take you to a spot overlooking the route that the Legionnaires had planned. Lo and behold, they're there, sneaking their way up to the main defenses.

"Now stay here. I'll be right back" You say.

The spot she led you to is a building overlooking the the alleyway that the Legionnaires are using. You hop out the window and land blade first on the unluckiest of the five demons.

"Surprise!" You shout for the second time tonight, as you whirl toward the nearest of the remaining demons and carve them up.

The third one loses a hand when he goes for his sword.

The fourth one takes a spike to the head while trying to open the spellbomb case.

And the last puts up a brief fight before getting his heart broken.

You quickly check the case of spellbombs to make sure none of them are going to go off, then you pick it up and head out to the street.

A patrol passes, and you hand it off to them with instructions to bring it somewhere safe, then you head back to where you left Raven.

"You actually stayed put" You say.

"You told me to" She says. "I watched the fight. Has anyone ever told you that you're kind of terrifying?"

"I think so... once or twice" You say. "I'm only terrifying if you're against me, though... which discludes you, unless you've somehow managed to come up with a 'no' for me while I was gone"

"Sit down" You say.

The building is an empty warehouse, and there are some crates around you can use as chairs. Raven sits on the floor, figuring that this will be temporary.

"Tell me what the Legion's endgame is" You say. "I've always been kind of confused by that. Their way of doing things never seemed all that sustainable"

"Before Mahron joined, I don't think they had an endgame" She says. "They were just demons who got together to do demon things, but now... he definitely wants something"

"Mahron wasn't around at the start?" You ask. "Tell me about that"

"The original members are hard to find most days, but they all say that Mahron only joined once the group got going" She says. "He came and told them he could make them more powerful, and beat everyone who tried to oppose him, then started giving people boons"

"And him... does he have a boon?" You ask.

"Not that I've seen" She says.

"Interesting. Say... I don't suppose you've seen a guy around..." You describe Terry to her in as much detail as you can manage.

"Sounds familiar..." She says. "Tell you what, you don't pry into my past, and I'll-"

"Tell me where you've seen him" You say.

"Agh! Fuck! He's been around a few times. He mostly shows up and talks to the higher ups sometimes. I've never spoken with him" She says. "Can I just point out how humiliating this is? I would honestly rather be getting tortured right now, and there's nothing I can do to make that happen"

"You could cooperate" You say.

"Cooperation implies that the two of us are working together. This is just you getting everything you want, and I can't stop you. I can't fight you. I can't run. I can't..." She stops, and gets a wicked look in her eyes.

"What?" You ask.

She smiles and starts crawling over to you.

"What are you doing?" You ask.

"What do you think?" She replies, coming to a stop in front of you and slowly pulling her shirt up. "Nervous?"

"Maybe" You say.

"You can always say stop" She says, exposing her chest and fondling herself. "Unless... oh, are you afraid you don't want me to stop? Worried that my wiles might get the best of you?"

You swallow.

Her smile widens, and she starts climbing up into your lap. "Last chance" She says.

"Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" She says, sliding back onto her feet and pulling her shirt back down. "I was so sure that was going to work. Fuckin' Cheska lied about you bein' seduceable"

"Just what exactly was your plan there?" You ask.

"I was gonna do the thing I used to do before I turned" She says. "Y'know. Fuck your lights out and slip away while you're sleeping"

"I could just say 'hey don't go anywhere' before going to sleep" You say.

"Oh, honey. That would be the last thing on your mind" She says.

"What would be the first?" You ask.

"Oh, gods, and yes" She says. "Those three words, in any order you please, over and over and over"

She sighs and slumps down against the wall, wincing as the belt digs into her wings.

"But that's all shot now, so what can I do for ya? Shine your shoes? Reveal more of my deepest secrets? Maybe jump off this building to see if I'll die?" She asks.

"You can start by calming down" You say.

She takes a deep breath, looking markedly less angry. "I didn't actually want to be calm. But now I am" She says. "I'm not even allowed to be mad"

"Look, I'm sorry. Alright" You say. "I've never done this sort of thing before, so I'm not really sure what crosses what lines"

"It's... fine" She says. "This is as close to a fair punishment as I could ask for that doesn't end with my head being separated from my body, so I guess it's not that bad... my head is staying on... right?"

"Hard to say" You say. "You did kill our guys, that's true. But the info you provided saved a lot more"

"I didn't provide that information willingly" She says.

"No one has to know about that" You say. "In fact, don't tell anyone yet. I'm not really sure how to explain this... For now you'll just be a regular turncoat, with all the good will that provides"

"I assume this deal comes with a guarantee that you won't make me do anything weird in public?" She asks.

You nod.

"Alright. That's better than I could hope for, given the circs. I can handle being a turncoat" She says.

"But for now it's back in the cell" You say. "I probably shouldn't have you out and about as it is..."

"That's fair" She replies. "So... be honest with me. How close were you to saying yes?"

"I am not answering that"

I wanna ask what her own end game is. What are they gonna do if they win? They're parasites that can only live by killing or torment humans. Are they planning to just keep them around as slaves or cattle and take a ticket and wait in line for their turn to get their killing fix?

Hell, if they lose? Or just manage to get a cease fire and hold on to some territory... Cheska told us what happens to demons who try to resist their urge. If the legion is unable to win they'll just all end up murdering each other won't they?

I must be missing something because it's hard to believe they are an army of short sighted idiots who collectively lack critical thinking skills
>>
I was thinking about this earlier, and I think it would be a good idea to see if we could have an echidna (either the one we know or another if she's too upset) charm Raven and see if she's really under control or not. Just enough to ask whether she's been lying about that or not. Probably not strain their code too much.
>>
You lead Raven back to the jail using side streets and alleyways. You don't really want to be seen with her and have to explain to someone why you're on a casual stroll with a prisoner, or why her hands aren't bound in any way...

"So what does a guy like you actually do for fun?" Raven asks when you're about halfway there. She's been quiet for most of this trip, and you'd kinda been hoping she would stay that way...

Well... you could always just tell her to be quiet, but then if she spots someone she can't tell you...

"What do you mean?" You ask.

"A guy your age usually spends most of his free time trying to get laid, and you're a virgin so... what do you spend all that time on?" She asks.

"I don't get much free time" You say. "And what makes you think I'm a virgin?"

"Please. Your face turns bright red whenever someone mentions the 'S' word" She says. "See? I didn't even say sex and you're blushing like a little girl"

"I-I am not blushing" You say.

She gives you an amused smile. "Sex" She says. "Sex. Tits. Pussy. Fucking. Na-"

"Stop that!" You say.

Raven immediately obeys, ending her verbal onslaught. But she's still smiling.

"Tell me what you're smiling about" You say.

"I'm just feeling a little amused at the fact that you can't handle a couple dirty words" She says. "But I guess I should be thankful that you're such a prude..."

"Why's that?" You ask.

"Because a guy your age usually spends most of his free time trying to get laid" She says, echoing her previous statement. "Hand him a sexy little thing like me, remove her ability to say no, and... well... dirty words"

"There are more important things than my desires going on right now" You say.

You reach the prison and find that the new guards haven't arrived yet. You guess you're on watch duty for a bit until they arrive...

"But you do still have desires" Raven says, hugging you from behind as you enter the prison proper. She gently runs her hands along your chest and abs, and speaks softly into your ear. "You know it's unhealthy to keep these things pent up"

When you don't say anything, she presses herself against your back, closes her wings around you and breathes across your neck.

"Would you stop that?" You say.

She giggles and backs off. "Aww... I almost had you that time" She says.

"No you didn't" You say, as you open her cell door.

She steps past you, but stops and faces you before entering. "If you told me to stop trying, we would never have this issue again" She says.

"Just get in the cell" You say.

She runs her hands down your arms as she steps backwards, taking your hands and trying to pull you in with her.

"There's room for two" She says.

"Really? I thought it looked kinda cramped, but if you say there's room for one more I guess I can put another prisoner in here with you" You say.

...

"Why are there no other prisoners?" You ask.

"I was wondering when you might clue into that" She says. "The Legion owned this town. Who do you think we put into jail cells?"

"Resistance members... who the others busted out" You say.

"They had the keys, by the way" She says, flicking the lock on her cell to point out that it was unlocked rather than broken. "So unless you've got a foolproof way of making sure they don't come back, I might advise that you not leave me here alone if you hope to see me alive in the morning"

You open your mouth to speak, then close it again. You have no idea when or if those new guards will be arriving, and Coral has yet to come back from Altea. If she's taking this long to reply, then she's having trouble finding the people to spare.

You turn back to Raven, who's leaning against the door of her cell examining her nails. She gives you an expectant look, like she knows she's just put you into a rough spot...

"Okay, get out of the cell and come with me" You say, as you start walking out of the prison.

"Where are we going?" She asks.

"The manor. There's a dungeon underneath... which you already knew about" You say. "You'll have your own cell, but you'll be sharing the dungeon with Graumer"

"Oh gods, you're not gonna make me listen to his rants are you?" She asks. "Spending more than five minutes with that guy is enough to make a girl wanna just end it"

"Don't kill yourself" You say. "With any luck we'll be movin Graumer out here soon. I don't like having him down there, personally"

"Hoping to have a nice private space for me?" She asks. "Set up some candles, get a bed with some bounce..."

"No" You say.

"You know this wouldn't be nearly as much fun if it didn't obviously bother you" She says.

"Just... come on" You say.

You take the backstreets to get to the manor, and find a couple of Lubrian guards at the entrance when you arrive.

"My lord" They say, giving a polite bow as you approach. "A prisoner?"

"I'm bringing her to the dungeons here. The Resistance has already attempted to kill this one once, and she has valuable information" You say. "Keep a close guard"

You head inside and take her down to the dungeon. Graumer is sleeping, and all the empty cells are open. So you wave Raven towards one of them and she goes inside.

"Will you be needing anything else?" She asks.

"Tell me what the Legion was hoping to accomplish up north" You say.

"Trying to kill the queen, obviously. Their main defence is that winter thing and no one but her can use it" She says.

"Okay that makes sense... now tell me if you have any spies in the city, or other people you've used the boon on" You say.

"The boon's power doesn't last all that long. They follow my orders for about 5 minutes after it touches their brain, and only hold commands for about a half hour after I give them" She says. "Y'know... if they survive that long"

'So anyone you've enthralled..."

"Would be free by now, yes" She says. "Is that all?"

"Yep, that should be good" You say.

"Are you suuuuuure?" She asks.

"Go to sleep" You say.

She immediately starts struggling to keep her eyes open, stumbling around as her legs start to fail. "Oh, fuck me. Night night, I guess" She says, before her eyes shut and she collapses.

You catch her as she falls, more out of instinct than any actual desire to see her unharmed, and place her on the simple bed in a way that looks comfortable.

Then you remove the belt binding her wings so you can put it back around your waist, leave the cell, shut the door behind you, and make sure it's locked.

Probably. My only interest is verifying she's under control and then having as much information as possible extracted out of her. I think it may be helpful though to suggest things may not be too bad if she cooperates though, just in case we don't ask exactly the right questions.

>writing

The problem I have is that she's not actually complying with us. This is a similar moral dilemma that our Echidna friend has with her powers. This is bordering dangerously close to evil.

On top of that, if this ability ever wears off, we might not realize it and get somebody's throat slit.
>>
>>2486891
Yeah, I know she isn't complying which is one reason I would actually like to check if she really is with echidna if they are willing. Or some other means. I also don't favor being too cold to her since her odds of betraying us drop drastically if she doesn't think she will be killed. Because at this point she's probably paste if she goes back to the Legion if she isn't some kind of deep cover agent, so it's natural she side with us out of self-interest, but that's as far as it will go.

Honestly I'm not too terribly bothered by the fact she has to answer questions. Few criminals are the architects of their own just desserts. And it probably saves anything worse happening to her by someone with fewer scruples than us, because we really do need the information of someone who appears to have some knowledge of the inner circles. So someone would probably torture her if she hadn't done this to herself.
>>
"I should probably be more careful with that..." You say, making a mental note to watch what you say to Raven.

You head back upstairs, finding Belladonna waiting for you at the top.

"Hey" You say.

"I was told you had come back a bit early" Belladonna says. "Is something wrong?"

"Just had to bring a prisoner here" You say. "I'll be heading back out now"

"Ah, good... I thought something might have gone wrong out there..." She says.

You put a hand on her head. "Everything is just fine" You say. "Keep an eye on the girls for me. I should be back by dawn"

Belladonna curtsies. "Good fortune to you, my lord" She says.

"Right back at you" You say.

You leave the manor and jog back to where Meyu was, happy to find him in the same spot since you don't have Coral to lead you to him right now...

"Welcome back" Meyu says. "How'd it go?"

"You were right. We had Antolian guards watching the prison. They let the Resistance right in, and they made off with all the members the Legion had locked up" You say.

"And Raven?" Cheska asks.

"She's in the Manor's dungeon now" You say. "She even gave me some good info, in return for not letting the resistance kill her"

"Oh?" Cheska asks.

"They were ten, the group that broke in. I went out to head off the other five, and found them trying to blow a hole in the west wall" You say. "Then I killed them and handed their explosives off to a patrol"

"Is that... aaaaall she did in return?" Cheska asks.

"Yes" You say.

Cheska giggles, as Coral flies back down to you with a message. You open it up and read it. It's from Altea, telling you to do exactly what you ended up doing with Raven, and make your way to the east gate for further instruction.

"The east gate... why there?" You ask.

"Who knows?" Meyu asks.

I'll add that if we bring this up to Cheska, we ought to point out she best not draw too many parallels in their situations as we have limited confidence in her right now.

"Well let's go" You say. "I'll ride with you guys. I left the Rook at the prison"

"You don't think she wants you on the Rook?" Meyu asks.

"Doesn't say I'll need it" You say. "Come on, go! Go!"

You all head to the carts, but you stop Cheska before she gets in and tell her to ride on the roof with you.

"What's up?" She asks.

"Nothing... I just wanted to talk about something" You say.

She pauses for a moment, then shrugs and hops up top. Meyu's cart has railings on the top and it doesn't go too fast, so riding up here should be fine.

"Alright, what's this about?" She asks.

"It's about Raven..." You say.

Cheska gives you an odd look. "You didn't actually have sex with her, did you?" She asks.

"No! Of course not" You say. "It's something that apparently happened when I destroyed the boon..."

You tell Cheska about the time you spent with Raven, and how she really couldn't seem to refuse you...

"And then when I left I told her to go to sleep and she just kinda... dropped" You say.

"You have the willpower of a saint, you know that?" She asks.

"Why?" You ask.

"No reason" She says. "So you destroyed the boon, and now she does everything you tell her to... what's the problem?"

"The problem is that I'm not sure if she's actually telling the truth" You say.

"So you think she up and decided to betray the Legion, and all that other stuff... for what? For the off chance that you'd let your guard down?" She asks. "Because I've seen her work. There's at least a thousand other soldiers in this army who'd be eating out of her hands after all that, and she decided to go with you"

"You did tell her I was seduceable..." You say.

"That was a lie, apparently..." She says. "And I highly doubt she'd just take the word of a traitor like that"

"So... what?" You ask.

Cheska lays onto her back and crosses her legs. "So right now he's locked up and shackled. Once we're done with this whole siege thing, we can test her to see if she's telling the truth" She says. "Until then, there are bigger fish to fry"

You reach the east gate, and find a rather large force being assembled there. When the cart stops, you hop off the roof and find someone who looks like they're in charge.

...

Pip's here. She's usually in charge. You go talk to her.

"What's going on?" You ask.

"Well Phase 4 isn't quite going as planned" Pip says. "They've fortified their position outside the west gate to the point where our bombardment isn't having any effect. The gates aren't going to hold forever, so we're going with plan B"

"What's plan B?" You ask.

"Plan B is where we exit from this gate, sweep around the outer walls, clear them off the south gate, then storm their position outside the east gate and route them" Pip says.

"Who's leading the charge?" You ask.

Pip tips her head behind her. "Look to the man on the Centaur" She says.

Man on the Centaur... who...?

...

That's Derrick. He's riding Marybell. It looks heroic, romantic and a little awkward all at once.

"Glad to hear you're in high spirits" You say. "So where do I fall into this plan?"

"Same as usual. You see somebody with a weapon made of anything but steel or wood? Run 'em through the shredder" She says. "Might get a little chaotic out there, but you've got that soul platform thingy to get above the action. Make use of that to maneuver, but try not to stay above the crowd for too long"

"Gotcha" You say. "I can also send out some disruptors to stall out their magic as we charge in, if you like"

"That could help" Pip says. "Just do whatever you think you should. If everyone pulls their weight we should have the enemy force in full rout by sunrise"

You look up at the sky, noticing that it's starting to get a little lighter now. "When do we start?" You ask.

"You've got about 5 minutes while the airships reposition. Once they're set, they'll send off two barrages. The first will be our signal to move out. The second will have the southern force nice and soft for when we slam it" She says. "Do what you want with that time, just be ready to go when those guns go off"

"Gotcha" You say.

You head back to Meyu and quickly fill them in on the plan, then walk back towards the crowd.

"Wait, where are you going?" Cheska asks.

"To the front" You say. "I also wanna poke Derrick for a bit. Wanna come?"

"Oh shit, that's Derrick?" Madelaine asks. "I didn't even notice him"

"Well I'll be damned... never pegged him as a horseman. Shows what I know" Meyu says.

Cheska tags along as you push your way through to Derrick.

"Hey. Put me up on your shoulders" Cheska says.
"Why?" You ask.
"Just do it. It'll be funny" She says.

You shrug and lift the devil up, planting her on your shoulders as you approach Derrick and Marybell.

Marybell is the first to notice you, and she lets out a long sigh.

"We're here to join the mounted corps" Cheska says.

"You guys are hilarious" Marybell says sarcastically.

"Cheska, before you make her angry just know that I can't out run her" You say.

Derrick chuckles. "You guys ready for this?" He asks.

"I'm not sure if I've ever actually been ready for anything" You say.

He holds out his fist and you bump it, then let Cheska get off your shoulders.

"Alright, it's almost time" Derrick says. He pats Marybell on her waist and whispers something to her, then grabs a lance that's sticking out of the ground. Holding it high in the air, he addresses the soldiers. "Dawn is upon us! Let's show these monsters that their time is up!"

A roar goes up from the crowd, followed shortly by a series of bangs from above as the first barrage is launched.

The gate opens.

The cavalry, along with Derrick, charges out first. You run with them, until you realize that you're not keeping up.

You remember the name of the person who sealed away Raligos: Calist Windrunner. You know now that she earned that nickname by specializing in going fast.

So you pull out the Wind Emblem and push energy through it, focusing it under your feet and giving each of your steps some extra kick. It takes some getting used to, but after stumbling a few times you quickly find that it's easiest to not let your feet touch the ground.

You still need to be close to the ground, but not too close. It's a delicate balance that you don't think you'll be mastering today.

But as you quickly pull up alongside the horse, raptor, and centaur riders, you realize that it will be well worth the effort. Maybe they'll start calling you "Yuu Windrunner" after this...

Ahead of you, the second barrage hits the force trying to set up outside the south gate, weakening their defensive barriers and drawing their attention away from the charge.

You quickly the spot group's boon holder, and bring out your floating blade and bucklers as you approach.

As the enemy recovers from the airship's barrage, they start to notice the approaching charge.

The first demon to turn their head your way... loses said head as your blade waves goes clean through their neck.

That frightens the others, and they don't have their defenses up by the time you fly into their ranks, slicing through their front line and planting your blade into the boon holders' face.

You grab the boon as he falls to the floor, turning it to dust so that everyone can see. The Legions strengths lay in their boons, their ferocity, and their demonic tenacity. You've now removed the first, dulled the second, and shown them that the third isn't worth as much as they'd hoped.

Then the cavalry charge crashes into them, and you fight forward alongside your mounted allies...

But they quickly pass you, leaving you behind as they continue their charge.

Ahead, you can see the enemy retreating from your assault. Even though you couldn't keep up, you still feel like you did your part.

Now that you've fallen behind, Cheska can finally catch up. She pats your back and gets you running again.

"Good show, cutie" She says. "Come on, the chage will have to divert before they lose their momentum, then we can pick off all the stragglers"

You continue forward with Cheska, and like she said the cavalry turn and move away from the enemy, allowing the infantry to move in behind them.

Some of the enemy force keeps on running, while others stand and fight in the hopes of turning the tide.

It's a slim hope, and one that's easily shut down. But you can understand why they would want to try.

Now that you're in the thick of things, you realize that maybe it would have been a good idea to stick behind with Cheska in the first place. All that time you spent fighting together in the tournament and training together on the trip down has put the two of you in sync.

When she's charging up a spell, you know to keep her covered. You also know how long it takes her to charge her different spells, and which ones she prefers to use when, so you know when you have to get out of the way and let her do her thing.

In return she puts a lot of trust in you by essentially painting a giant target on herself as an unarmed caster on the front lines, letting you pull your weight just by killing anyone that tries to take her out.

Before long the southern force has all either grouped up with the eastern forces, or been killed. You continue onward as the cavalry force comes in to charge once more...

Rolled 82 (1d100)

Another barrage from the airships slams into the western force's (I keep screwing up and saying eastern. Ignore that) barrier.

The barrier holds, but you hear another loud crack from inside the town. This time a massive, flaming projectiile hurtles over the wall and smashes through their defenses, crashing to the ground and exploding.

"Was that the giant cannon?" Cheska asks as the two of you keep pace with the other soldiers.

"Must be. Unless they have another thing in there with that kind of firepower" You say.

"Hoo boy... that thing packs a puuuuunch" She says. "Come on! I wanna get into fireball chuckin' range before that barrier goes back up!"

Cheska grabs your hand and picks up speed. The sudden contact distracts you enough that you almost don't notice the projectiles starting to come your way...

Almost. You quickly get to work deflecting them while Cheska builds up a nice big fireball and hurls it into the enemy ranks. It hits home and makes them nice and disorganized just in time for the cavalry charge to slam into their front line.

"Solid hit" You say.

"Thank you. I've been practicing" She says. "Let's go! There's bound to be a boon or two in there"

"Right" You reply.

You run in behind the cavalry, diggin into the wedge they've created and putting your blades to work.

When you spot someone with a boon, you signal him out to Cheska. She opens a path to him, and then you swoop in and let him know what one divided by five equals...

...

It's 0.2.

...

You're glad you didn't say that one out loud. Your finishing lines need work.

At Derrick's behest, you begin working your way to their siege weapon. When you see it, you understand why it hasn't been destroyed. It's practically a fortress in its own right... except it's on wheels.

With Cheska and a small group of soldiers with you, you fight your way to the weapon. Even though you've broken their lines, if they manage to get into the city they can still cause a lot of havoc. But if you destroy the weapon, then the battle is over.

You fire off several bolts of explosive soul at the entrance to the mobile fortress, and cover yourself as you hop towards the entrance.

But as soon as your feet leave the ground, every instinct you have starts throwing up alarm bells. Your gut tells you to back off, don't go in, GUARD.

You merge your bucklers in front of you, forming a larger, stronger shield, and something hits it. Something hits it hard.

The soul shield shimmers and shivers and cracks, before a fist powers through it. But the bucklers held off whoever it was long enough for you to get on your feet and get the hell out of the way.

The instincts of the soldier behind you aren't as sharp. They continue forward as you step aside, and the fist caves in their chest armor.

There's a pause as the soldier hits the ground and lets out heir last breath, but it's broken quickly as the weapon slams the gate once more.

You bring your floating blade back to your hand, and loose several blade waves into the doorway. You can tell they all hit something, but...

"Is that all?" A voice from inside the machien says. It's deep and intimidating, but muffled...

A man steps out into the light. He stands easily a foot taller than you, and black armor covers his entire body save for his face, where he has a steel mask.

"Oh shit" Cheska says.

"I have been dying to meet you, young prince" Mahron says. It couldn't be anyone else. "One who can so easily break our creations and turn our own against us... well I thought you might be an impressive man"

You take a breath and move in. He catches your thrust with his hand, and breaks your mageblade with his grip. Then he avoids your swing and counters with a solid kick to the chest that knocks the wind from your lungs and sends you skidding back.

He fixes you with a glare from behind his mask. His red eyes seem to gleam with fury.

"I am disappointed" He says.

One of the soldiers shouts and charges, prompting the others to join in. Mahron grabs the first around the neck and swings him like a club.

"Disappointed that you are not a worthy adversary" he says.

A spell glances off his armor, and he throws his improvised weapon at the caster.

"Disappointed that weak humans believe they can rule this world"

A fireballs explodes over Mahron, engulfing him in flames. He emerges unscathed and leaps towards Cheska, grabbing her by the throat.

"And disappointed in you most of all" He says.

As you finally catch your breath, you hear the siege weapon slam the gate once more. The cracks are beginning to show...

You steady yourself, feeling a sharp twinge of pain as you stad up straight. Feels like a broken rib, but that can be looked at after.

"You would throw away the gifts you have been given to fight with these inferior creatures?" Mahron asks.

Cheska can't respond, choosing to let her actions speak for her as she desperately kicks at Mahron.

"And would you die for them?" He asks.

You rush forward again, and he throws Cheska to the ground, freeing up his hand to swat you away. He turns his attention back to you, walking toward where you landed.

Cheska leaps onto his back and sinks her teeth into his neck. Mahron growls and grabs her by the hair to throw her to the ground again. This time he stops and pulls back his fist, aiming a punch straight at her head.

You lever yourself off the ground, but his fist starts to move. You saw what that fist did to a solid steel breastplate. She doesn't stand a chance.

But you'll never make it in time.

Cheska is going to die.

She's going to die because you're too weak. Too weak to beat this one demon.

"Weakness is not an option" A voice within you says. It sounds... familiar... in a way that both comforts and horrifies you. "You're in this 'till te end now"

You feel a burning in your chest, and you realize that you can't be strong like him. His strength comes from a different place than yours.

But you can be strong like you.

The infinite possible futures spread out ahead of you, and you can see none that end the way you want them to.

So you look back into the past and present, at the infinite possible Yuu's. Every Yuu reaches this point in time different from the other.

You find the fastest possible Yuu and borrow his speed, exploding forward at a rate that you could never manage

Then you look for the Yuu with the strongest, sharpest blade and borrow his expertise, making your blade hard and sharp enough to cleave straight through Mahron's armor and take his arm clean off.

You then catch his severed arm and backhand him with it, following up with a combination of quick slashes in perfect timing. An unquestionably effective move that you never learned, yet it feels as natural as breathing.

Mahron takes a step back. Then you force him to take another by calling upon a ferocity that you'd never cultivated, yet it's yours as much as the hands holding your blades.

The fierce heat in your chest spreads, claiming every part of you, and your vision turns white. The last thing you see is an explosion.

You aren't sure what exploded, or what made it explode... but questions like that can wait...

Whose bed?

Hard to tell. It might be yours. It's definitely in the manor.

You sit up, wincing at the pain in your ribs and looking around to make sure nothing is missing.

Then you look around and see that you're not alone.

"Took you long enough" Altea says. She's sitting in a chair by your bedside, a stack of papers next to her, and a sprite with a message insistently bonking itself against her head.

"How long have I been out for?" You ask.

"5 days" She replies. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I invented the train so I could get hit by it..." You say.

"Well enough for a hug?" She asks.

"Always" You reply.

Altea sighs, gets out of her chair, and hugs you.

"Sorry to worry you..." You say.

"Did we win?" You ask, as Altea pulls away and sits at the side of your bed.

"We did... you don't remember?" She asks. "They retreated after Lyvia destroyed the siege weapon and you cut both of Mahron's arms off. We tried to capture him, but he managed to slip away"

You blink a few times. "I don't remember cutting them both off..." You say. "I remember the one... and then I hit him with it, and then I had to fight him back because... because... Cheska! Is Cheska alright?"

You try to get out of bed, but Altea stops you. "She's fine" She says. "She was badly wounded, with a nearly broken neck, missing teeth, and about a dozen other things, but our healers put her right... and then she locked herself in her room"

"She what?" You ask.

"After she woke up" Altea says. "She kicked everyone out and locked the door. We've tried to get her out but she's threatening to roast anyone that tries to open the door... we figured we'd wait to deal with it until you woke up. I don't think anyone expected you to sleep for 5 days straight"

"I may have pushed myself a little too hard..." You say.

Altea finally stops ignoring the sprite and takes its message. "Interesting... your friend Caiah is here" She says.

"Here? Since when?" You ask.

"Just now, apparently" Altea says. "This says that she was positive you'd be awake by the time I read it... very interesting..."

"I should go see her" You say.

"You should rest" She replies.

"I've been asleep for five days now" You say. "I can be up and about for a bit"

"Just don't push yourself" She says. "Oh, and... you wouldn't happen to know why your prisoner won't wake up, would you? We wanted to ask her some questions, but she's been sound asleep as long as you have"

"I'll uhh... see what I can do..." You say.

"I wanna see Cheska, make sure she's alright..." You say. "Where is she?"

"Three doors down, to the right" Altea says. "If anyone can get that door open, it's you..."

"Leave it to me" You say, giving her a smile and a thumb's up.

You get out of bed and Altea hugs you again, before letting you do your thing. Your legs feel like jelly as you walk, but the weakness fades by the time you reach Cheska's room.

You knock on the door.

"I told you guys, I-"

"It's me" You say.

It's quiet for a while, and for a second you think she might have forgotten about you. But then...

"Well I'm here now" You say, throwing an arm over the blanket lump. "And thanks... for helping me"

"You started it" She says. "I just... I knew. You know?"

"Knew what?" You ask.

"I knew that if I stopped him from killing you, that I would die" She says. "And I didn't want that. I didn't want to die. But it was like... I dunno... I dunno why I did that"

You feel her shiver under the blanket, and pull her in a little closer.

"Returning the favor, maybe?" You ask.

"Maybe... the thing is, you do shit like that all the time" She says. "You save people, and do stupid things that will probably get you killed, but I've never seen it not work. And when I thought that you might die, I just... panicked. I didn't think there was a way to save you and not die, but I went for it anyway. Because..."

You stay quiet, letting her figure out what she wants to say.

"Because I wasn't important... and if I had to die, then dying to save you wasn't bad as far as ways to go... go" She says. "Is that weird?"

"Maybe a little" You say. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Because... I've been crying and not sleeping and I look ugly" She says.

"And now the real reason" You say.

"You don't believe me?" She asks.

"I know you Cheska. You don't care about your looks that much" You say. "I mean, you do care, but not enough to lock yourself away in a room for 5 days because you're not looking your best"

"Fine! I'm freaking out because I'm cold" She says.

"Why is that reason to freak out?" You ask.

"I'm never cold! Something is wrong!" She says.

...

"Lay back" You say.

"What? Why?" She asks.

"Just do it" You reply.

Cheska lies down, and you lay your head on her chest.

"Yuu... what are you doing?" She asks. "If this is all set up for you to touch my chest..."

"Cheska I've seen you naked, and a chest is something you don't have. Now shush" You say.

"Motherfucker just because I don't have big honkin' bazongas doesn't mean-"

"Shh!"

...

There is a steady thumping coming from beneath the blanket. But that can't be...

"What are you doing?" She asks.

"Cheska you have a heartbeat" You say.

...

"Fuck off" She says in an incredulous tone. "I do not, that's impossible. It's..."

...

"Holy shit" She says. "I can hear it"

She throws the blankets off of her. She was right about not looking great, but she doesn't look that bad...

You look at her eyes. Where they were once red, they're now back to the same yellow as other Devils.

"Oh my gods" She says. "Ph my gods I have to tell someone! I have to... do... something!"

Cheska springs out of bed excitedly and makes for the door.

You grab her arm to stop her. "Hey, slow down there" You say.

She tries to get her arm out of your grip, but can't seem to.

"Fuck..." She says. "Fuck fuck fuck fuck..."

"What?" You ask.

"Are you feeling this? I'm all weak now..." She says. "Fuck these scrawny ass arms... and god damn this cold!"

"Just... calm down, okay?" You ask.

"Don't tell me to calm down!" Cheska says, doing the exact opposite of what you just told her to do. "Everything is different and I've wanted this for SO LONG but now I have it and it's scary and I don't know what to dooooooooo..."

Cheska starts crying, so you hug her and rub her back.

After a while, the crying slows, and then stops. "I'm glad you're alright" She says finally.

"Me too" You say.

She looks up, resting her chin against your chest and puffing out her cheeks. You poke them to deflate them, and chuckle.

"Stay put, okay? I'll have the healers come up and take a look at you, and send up some warmer clothes too" You say. "I've gotta go wake Raven..."

"Why?" She asks.

"Well I told her to sleep and she's kinda... still sleeping..." You say.

"Ohhh... that's rich" She says. "I'd say I want to be there. But I imagine I might be able to hear that exchange from here if I listen closely"

"You might..." You say.

"Think you could have some food sent up too?" She asks.

"Sure. You haven't been starving yourself, have you?" You ask.

"Nah. Mousey broke in here while I was sleeping and brought me a stash... but it ran out a while ago and I'm kinda hungry" She says.

"Pip did?" You ask. "How do you know?"

"She left a note" Cheska says. "I'll... have to thank her for that, I guess"

Cheska finally releases you and sits back down on her bed.

"But you have a demon to go wake, so I'll let you go" She says. "I'll be here for a while... doing... I dunno... stuff. Pondering just what I'll do now"

>Anything else?
>>

"Just remember that you always have a place here" You say. "Should I send word to Fran?"

"Fuck no. That's a letter I have to send personally" She says. "Oooooo! I can play with her kids now!"

"You couldn't do that before?" You ask.

"Nope. I try- err... tried to avoid kids" She says. "They break too easily. If I got the craving for some death while around one unsupervised... well... you get it"

Cheska's face goes from neutral to beaming.

"And I can have kids of my own some day!" She says, clapping her hands and bouncing excitedly. "And I can find a real job! I mean, I'll have to find a real job, one that doesn't involve killing people"

"You're not staying on with us?" You ask.

"I might... I dunno... I don't really want to risk turning back into a demon again, but at the same time I still want to stay by your side" She says. "Especially considering who you're fighting..."

"You alway have a spot by my side" You say. "But I thought you were weaker now"

"Ah shit that's right... I'll have to start like... working out if I want to be strong" She says. "Uuuuuugh... why couldn't the murdery part go away and leave all the things I liked about being a demon..."

"I'm sure you'll get the hang of it" You say. "And... I'm happy for you"

"Thanks" She says. "Now go on. You've got five days worth of business to attend to, Lord Gallant"

"Ugh... don't remind me of that..." You say. "Mind if I stay here with you and contemplate the future?"

"Only if you plan on makin' yourself a big part of it" She says.

You tilt your head. "What does that mean?" You ask.

"Don't worry about it" She says. "Go on. I'll keep an ear out for Raven screaming. Try to break the news to her in the most freak-out-ish way possible"

"I'll try. See you later?" You ask.

"Of course" She says.

I'll be honest I actually was planning to end it there. As I said, I usually get tired around midnight.

But then I felt like continuing so I said "psych" and kept going.

>>2487408
Well I'm glad that you did. I'm hyped that Cheska became a human, but I think Yuu's reaction was too muted. We've been trying to help her since forever, you'd expect some butterflies you know?

I was thinking earlier about how we'd never get to meet mahron anytime soon and how much we'd need to power to to stand against him... And then ask this happened. your solution was so utterly Japanese that I feel ashamed that I didn't think of that myself.

Anyway, great thread and thank you.

You head out of Cheska's room, still feeling elated by the fact that she's finally achieved her goal and become human again.

You have no idea how it happened or what it means, but you have other problems to deal with before you delve into that.

Problems like Raven still following your order to "sleep" that you gave her five days ago before the battle...

... you still find it hard to believe that you've been out for five days, but it's now been confirmed by 2 people. Maybe you should get a third opinion.

Before heading down to the dungeon, you stop by the kitchen. You know that Raven will be starving when she wakes up, so you figure you'll skip a few steps and bring her some food and water.

In the kitchens you run into Lola and some of the other maids. The lop-eared Leprid gasps when she sees you.

"Hellola" You say.

"Sir! You're awake!" She exclaims, as she hops forward to give you a big hug.

"Hey, not so tight. The ribs are still a bit tender..." You say, a bit sore that she ignored your amazing pun...

"Sorry!" She says, pulling back and holding your shoulders to look you over. "Are you feeling alright? Were we feeding you enough? You look kinda pale... doesn't he look kinda pale?"

"I'm fine" You say. "Have I missed anything important?"

Lola puffs up with pride. "We've been taking care of everything, so don't you worry" She says. "And Miss Belladonna has been keeping a list of news for you for when you wake up"

"I'll have to see her then" You say. "How have you guys been?"

"Worried" Lola says, puffing out her cheeks.

"Other than that" You say.

"Busy" Another maid says. "Did you come here for breakfast, sir?"

"No... well, yes. But not my breakfast..." You say.

You let them know that you're off to deal with the prisoner downstairs, asking for a jug of water and a big breakfast to bring her.

"You're not hungry?" Lola asks, as the other maids hop to.

"Oddly enough, no" You say. "You think I would be after sleeping for so long..."

"We started feeding you soup after the first day... even if you're not hungry, you'll probably want to eat something solid soon" She says. "I'm glad you're okay now"

"Me too..." You say. "And sorry for worrying you"

"Just don't do it again" Lola says in a scolding tone.

"I make no promises" You say.

Another maid hands you a big plate of food and a jug of water. "Here you go, sir. Is there anything else you need?"

"Not personally, but could you bring Cheska more blankets and something to eat?" You ask.

"Sure" Lola says.

"You guys are the best" You say. "I'll be back"

Raven is the only prisoner in the dungeon now. The guard informs you that Graumer was relocated a few days ago when you stop in to grab the keys.

The evil angel is exactly where you left her, though it looks like someone took the time to roll her over... or she did that herself... or maybe she was moved when they tried to wake her.

You pull a little table up next to the bed, place her breakfast on it, then sit down in an unoccupied spot on the bed

She looks fairly peaceful like this, and you almost don't want to wake her... if for no other reason than because you don't want to deal with her reaction to the news. But in a way she's become your responsibility, so...

"Raven, wake up" You say.

She immediately stirs, taking in a deep breath through her nose and lazily opening her eyes.

"Ugh... have I been drinking?" She asks.

"No" You reply.

She turns her head to see you. "You sure?" She asks, as she strains to sit up. Her black hair is an absolute mess.

You help her stead herself. "Positive" You reply.

"Some other drugs?" She asks, wiping her eyes. "Karoosh 'r sumthin? 'sthe only thing might explain why my head's poundin'... 'n' why I don't remember sleeping with you..."

"No drugs. You didn't sleep with me" You say.

She gives you a weird look, then examines her surroundings. "Oh jeez... is this a jail cell?" She asks.

"Yes" You reply.

"And you didn't sleep with me" She says.

"No" You reply.

She gives you the best sultry smile she can manage, reaching up to stroke your cheek with one hand while the other plays with the low collar of her shirt. "Wanna?" She asks.

"No" You reply.

"You suuuure?" She asks, leaning forward to give you a view down her shirt and dragging a finger across your lips. "This bed feels pretty sturdy, but I bet I could fuck you right through it"

Despite the fact that you know exactly why she's doing this there is a small, primal part of you that wants nothing more than to give in... only a small part, though. Unfortunately that part has also commandeered your eyes...

"Y-you really don't remember?" You ask, turning your head away to try and regain control over your eyes.

She turns your head back towards her with a gentle, if a little shaky hand. "Eyes down here baby" She says as she tugs her collar down a bit, putting an end to the battle over your vision. "What was your question again?"

"I was asking-"

"Shhhhhhhhh" She says, putting a finger to your lips. "I don't actually care"

It takes you a second to process that interaction. Raven doesn't waste that second, using it to lower you down to the bed and straddle you. Then she sweeps her messy hair back, spreads her black wings as far as the small cell will allow, and starts to slowly grind her hips in a circle.

...

"I-I brought you breakfast" You say after a moment, hoping the food will distract her long enough for you to put an end to your internal power struggle.

"I bet you did, you dirty boy" She says, putting her hands on your chest and sliding down until her breasts are pressing against your crotch. "Now, are you gonna give it to me, or am I gonna have to suck it out?"

"N-not that, the plate-"

"Makin' me work for it, huh?" She asks, smiling as she rubs her chest against you and starts fiddling with your belt. "I hope you've got enough. I'm a hungry girl right now"

...

Just what is she planning on sucking out? The novels Pip gave you were always either too flowery to make any sense of, or so descriptive that you'd get antsy and skip ahead... A larger part of you becomes curious, joining with the part that wants to give in to temptation with a cry of 'Let's see where this goes'.

And as an academic, you owe it to yourself to explore-

...

No! You have to put an end to this before it goes any further beyond your control. It's gone too far as it is.

"Stop" You say.

Raven stops rubbing and fiddling, looking mildly confused.

"Get off"

She blinks a few times and slips off of you, allowing you to sit up. Then she squeezes her eyes shut.

"Aww shit..." She says.

"Now you remember?" You ask.

"Ungh..." She says, letting her shoulders slump as she rubs her face. "I was hoping that was all a nightmare, and that this was regular prison, and you were a regular guard or something..."

"Well it wasn't. And I'm not" You say.

"You wanna tell me why my head is pounding like a seaman on shore leave?" She asks.

"You're probably dehydrated" You say, deciding not to ask what that meant. "I brought food and water for you"

She finally notices the table next to the bed.. "Oh shit... you meant like, breakfast breakfast. I thought you were bein' coy" She asks, trying to get her unruly hair organized. Her eyes never leave the plate. "I... feel like I haven't eaten in days..."

You motion for her to go ahead, using the momentary distraction to get off the bed and take a breath to cool your head off.

>1/2
>>
Without another word Raven scoots forward and takes the jug of water, throwing it back and emptying half of it in one go. An amazing feat because you don't think you saw her actually swallow... did she just pour it all straight down?

Then she slams down the jug and starts devouring her food at a rate that puts Munchkin to shame, stopping for a breath only when she's made a significant dent.

"What the fuck is going on, why am I so hungry?" She asks.

You let out a nervous laugh and scratch your head. This angers the Raven.

"You know why, don't you?" She asks, standing up and grabbing you by the collar. "Answer me"

"Calm down" You say.

She takes a breath and lets you go. "I'm calm" She says.

"You've... been asleep for five days" You say.

...

"WHAT?!" She shouts. "FIVE DAYS? HOW? WHY?"

"Well I told you to sleep..." You say.

"AND THEN FORGOT ABOUT ME?" She asks.

"And then the battle didn't quite go as planned, and I've been out for five days as well" You say. "I came down as soon as I woke up"

Well... it was the second thing on your list. But she doesn't need to know that just yet.

"I'm flattered, really" She says, sarcastically. "Concerned that I might have just starved to death in bed if you hadn't come back at all, but flattered still"

And in the meantime there's a lot of fluffy maids.
>>
I think it's about time we had "The Talk" with someone who knows something about sexuality. We're obviously becoming more curious about sex and I'd rather deal with it before it boils over at a bad time.

The question is: who can we go to? I don't think Altea knows much about this stuff, so that leaves Meyu maybe? Or even that whole crew, given that they all seem like they'd have a different perspective.
>>
>>2494426
Ask all the maids. There are a wide variety and every type of girl is different.
>>
>>2494680
>>2494426
I'm pretty sure we already did get the talk from Meyu of all people, Yuu is just still a virgin. First hand experience is different than hearing about it and all
>>
>>2494706
I remember learning the birds and the bees from the Huntmaster, but that was a strictly "Where babies come from" kind of talk. I think Yuu is at a point where he needs to have a "What are these urges and how do I deal with them" kind of talk.

I'm looking at the post where we first encountered Raven and if Cheska hadn't been there to stop her from distracting us it could have gone badly. If "seduceability" is one of our weaknesses then we should cover it as well as we can.

I really wonder how bad things would have gone if we had decided to stay with Raven during battle. It seemed like an obviously bad and irresponsible choice, but it was still an option. Probably the best resistance against seduction is really just having another option. Raven just was more obvious about putting herself on the market. Not sure where the line is before waifu choice though.
>>
"Blame your boss" You say, sitting back down on the bed and motioning for her to do the same.

Raven sits down and starts eating again, shovelling several forkfuls into her mouth and washing it down. Then she wipes her mouth and gives you a sly smile. "So you admit it's your fault"

"Your old boss" You say.

"Mahron?" She asks. "He was back in fuckin' Johnston"

"He was here. I fought him when I tried to get into the siege engine" You say.

She doesn't look like she believes you. "I specifically asked him if he was coming, and he said it wasn't worth the trip" She says. "You sure it was him?"

"I dunno... is there another giant man with a steel mask that can punch straight through a solid barrier with enough strength leftover to cave in a steel breastplate?" You ask.

"So he was here..." She says, letting ut a derisive snort. "Maybe they did write me off... oh well. Not much I can do about it while I'm enslaved to... you"

"You're not my slave" You reply.

"That's wonderful news. Let me just start not doing every single little thing you tell me to do" She says. "Go on. Tell me to do something so I can not do it"

...

"No. Go on. I'll wait" She says.

"Look, I'm sorry okay? I'm trying to be careful because I don't want to abuse this" You say. "But right now I've got 5 days worth of business waiting for me upstairs, so I've gotta go. Do you need anything"

"So busy, and you've just recovered" She says, leaning towards you with a sultry gaze. "You suuuuure you don't wanna stay here and... put it off for a bit?"

You get off the bed before she can try anything, accidentally twisting in a way that causes your injured ribs to flare up. You wince at the pain, but otherwise ignore it. "No, I think I'm good" You say.

Raven shrugs and casually stabs a piece of food with her fork, her lustful look replaced with one of indifference. "You should get that looked at, hun" She says. "I've seen cracked ribs go bad before. I'd hate to see you die a virgin"

You raise your eyebrow and rub your injured side. "I didn't realize you cared so much about my well being" You say.

"I have to. My life is linked to yours" She says.

"I told you, you're not-"

"Please. I know nobody knows about what's really going on between us. I'm still alive because you told everyone I have valuable info" She says. "If you die, there's no one to keep everyone convinced of my usefulness. If I'm useless, then I'm just another Legionnaire"

You sigh. "Just... try to stay optimistic, okay?" You ask.

"Wanna make that an order? Maybe then it'll actually happen" She says.

How about we just come up with two different phrases? One will make her say no to whatever we want and the other will allow her to be herself.
>>
>>2497285
I think we should be careful. Putting aside the five days of sleeping, she is literally one day out from when she was killing and enslaving people for the Legion. She's still dangerous and we shouldn't let her guilt us into freeing her from the situation she created herself. Yes, her situation is bad, but she literally is that bad of a person.

Let's also keep in mind that giving her too much leeway is also going to cause us a lot of trouble. The resistance hates her, the echidnas and guild are going to hate her as soon as they process what she's done, and she's removed the eye of at least one of our soldiers. We have provided her significant protection as it is, as she is safe and only has to give information on an extremely evil organization. That's a pretty good deal. She can afford not to tear down what reputation we have built up by getting us to give her even more.
>>
>>2496747
>>So wait... you don't have valuable info?
>>Just head out
>>
>>2497433
Yeah I dunno about everyone else, to me Cheska is a unique case and I find it impossible to feel sympathy for the demons in the legion.

She's got the nerve to be offended and act like a victim when she would have participated in the slaughter of the entire city if we had failed. She has shown no remorse for what she has done and what she was about to do. Yuu is pissed and will have that baron executed for cruel experiments and making his maids we hats but his brain comes to a complete halt because she's pouting and guilt tripping him.

Use her for all she's worth and leave her to whoever handles POW business.
>>
>>2497497
I actually feel more sorry for the baron. Yeah, the experiments were bad and so was Illica going through the window, and he needs to be tried for it. He's legitimately mentally disturbed though and his choice of not resisting the Legion was reasonable. He was right that they were screwed and no one was ever going to come and help them. I think that puts him somewhere below our king in people who have seriously screwed up.

Raven shows intent and an ability to manipulate and reason to get her way. I think she has more malignant intent to her actions.
>>
>>2497560
He's a guy, that's all that matters to fatguys.
Raven is not only famous, she's apparently in one of the circles near Mahron.

Demons embrace their sin which in this case is murdering her sex partners, the baron tried to find out why the world is wrong and searched for answers and to 'fix' female animal mutations. The difference is that he couldn't have particularly enjoyed it since he is still a human and that makes him infinitely more sympathetic than her
>>
>>2497497
I agree to this but i feel that Yuu wouldn't do that, I think the most in character thing that could happen is Yuu trying to reform her without abusing the power he has over her
>>
>>2497803
Yeah, I know. I can only hope that the cast is going to explain what she's doing to him or that Altea or Pip, or someone else with authority and sense, will swoop in and deal with her before Yuu can fuck it up.

If this doesn't happen it's going to be a real fuckin headache because Yuu is now fully on the political arena, no longer just a prince who beats up demons sometimes.
>>
"So wait... you don't have valuable info?" You ask.

She frowns. "I-I didn't mean it like that" She says. "I know a lot, it's just... I'm... not sure how accurate any of it will be now"

"That and they already lied to you about Mahron, so who knows how much of what you do know is actually true" You say.

"And they already lied to me about Mahron, yes..." She says.

"Well you're bound to know something useful. Even if you don't have information, you can still provide insight into their workings" You say. "So sit tight, enjoy your breakfast, and I'll be back in a bit"

She gets a difficult look on her face. "Wait... think you could tell me I can stand too?" You ask.

"I said sit tight, not sit. It's a turn of phrase" You say. "But you can stand, if you want"

She lifts her butt a little ways off the seat, and lets out a breath. "Thanks" She says.

Then you head out, as Raven turns her attention back to her breakfast. You briefly wonder what effect telling her to 'enjoy her breakfast' might have had, but you don't have time to stick around and find out.

You'll have to ask her about it later...

For now, Caiah is here. So you figure Coral can just lead you to...

...

Where is Coral?

Now that you think of it, you didn't see her when you woke up. She must have started hanging around someone else while you were out.

But if she's not here, then you'll have to look for Caiah the old fashioned way. The maids wouldn't have left her standing at the entrance, so she must be inside somewhere.

You decide to head up and check the tearoom, running into Carrie and Robin along the way. Robin's tail starts wagging when you call out to them.

"Good morning, guys" You say, picking up the little Canid when she runs up to you. "Come here, you. Long time no see!"

Robin hugs you, her tail still wagging like crazy.

"Glad you're awake, sir" Carrie says. "You really had us going there..."

"Sorry about that" You say. "I probably overdid it a bit"

"As long as you're okay" Carrie says. "And it's the afternoon, by the way"

"Oh..." You say. "Bummer. I've still got a ton of things to do, and I slept half the day away"

Carrie giggles.

"So I'm told I have a visitor?" You ask.

"Ah, yes. She's in the tearoom right now" She says. "Your sprite is with her, in case you were wondering"

"Thanks" You say, as you hand Robin over to Carrie. "See you guys"

They both wave as you continue on to the tea room. When you arrive, you see Caiah and Coral both sipping tea... only Coral has a tiny little sprite cup.

You'll have to thank whoever picked that up, it's cute as hell.

Coral flies over and starts flying circles around your head, drawing Caiah's attention to the door.

"Welcome back" Caiah says as she gets up and walks over to you.

"I didn't expect to see you here" You say.

"Didn't expect to be here. Coral came and found me" She says. "You did something you shouldn't have"

Despite how vague of a statement that is, you know exactly what she's talking about...

"I'm still not sure what happened..." You say. "I knew I couldn't do what I needed to do with the strength I had, so I had to... borrow some"

"From other versions of you" Caiah says. "Which is why you've been out for so long"

"You know about this?" You ask.

"It doesn't have a name, and I've only had to use it once myself..." She says. "The man who taught me about what I am warned me of its dangers. He'd done it once and run into... something bad... something dark"

You furrow your brow. "What do you mean?" You ask.

"Not all of those possible versions will be like you. You got lucky. All you wanted was strength, and the other versions who had it were enough like you that it didn't disturb your mind" She says. "But it won't always be that way. You've come this far and managed to stay good, but how many opportunities were there to falter?'

You look away, but she holds your head and forces you to look her in the eye.

"How many choices could have led you down a different path?" She asks. "The people you could have been... they aren't all like you. Remember that"

"But I needed that strength..." You say.

"So make it your own. Become stronger. Don't. Rely. On. That. Power." She says.

"Alright..." You say.

"Good" She replies, letting go of you and going back to her seat. "Now, your tea is getting cold. Sit with me for a bit, will you?"

"Who taught you about those things?" You ask.

She smiles. "A man named Archibald" She says. "He was a lot like you, in some ways"

"He was a pure demon?" You ask.

She nods. "He's been gone for a while now, though. When he used that power he met with a version of himself who was driven mad" She says. "He struggled with that madness for a long time, but I like to think he beat it in the end"

"What happened to him?" You ask.

"I'm not sure" She says. "Last time I went to see him, he just wasn't there"

"So there are other pure demons?" You ask.

"Not anymore" She replies.

Dang... you might have liked to meet this Archibald...

"So how do I get stronger?" You ask. "I don't know when I'll be facing Mahron again. I may not have time to train..."

"You'll have time" She says. "But if you must... there's a place in Kirando. An ancient place, hidden beneath the city. I was on my way there when Coral found me"

"What's there?" You ask.

"I'm not sure... it was Lyvia who told me about it, but she wouldn't say what it was" She says, taking a sip of her tea. "She hinted that it had something to do with us. A way for us to understand how our power actually works"

"That's worth a look..." You say. "But the Legion controls Kirando"

"That doesn't mean it's off limits" She says.

"It is for me..." You say. "I have responsibilities here now, I can't just go off to Kirando"

"Then get stronger the old fashioned way" She says. "You have some time. Hone your body. Master your weapon. Advance your spellcraft. Become the Yuu that the other versions of you will want to borrow power from"

"Wouldn't that be bad?" You ask.

She shrugs. "I think they could all stand to be a little more like you" She says.

A maid steps in and brings you a cup of tea, giving a polite curtsy before exiting. You pick it up and sip it. It's good.

"Out of curiousity, how were you planning on getting into Kirando?" You ask.

"Through the front door" She says.

"You're gonna... fight your way in?" You ask.

"No. I'm gonna walk in through the front door" She replies, pulling out a little container from a pouch. "Check this out.

She opens the container, and you see that it's full of red...goop. She dips her finger into it, and then touches her eye. The red goop covers her iris, changing it from gold to red.

"Instant blood demon disguise" She says. "i go up to the front door, and the Legion's own laws let me kick the shit out of anyone who tries to get in my way"

"What is that stuff?" You ask.

"Slime girl" She replies.

You frown.

"Well... slime girl slime is the base. It reqiures a certain dye to get the right shade of red, and a disinfectant before it can go on your eye" She says. "It's the only readily available material that's sticky enough to stay on when you blink or tear up, but not so much that it stays on forever or feels uncomfortable"

She reaches back into the pouch and pulls out another container, tossing it to you. She looks weird with one red eye and one gold eye...

"Here. I have extra, in case you ever need to use it" She says.

"Thanks, I guess" You say. You go to try and put it in one of your belt pouches, and find that you're wearing pajamas... so you put it on the table and go back to sipping your tea.

Caiah smiles at you. "Did you just now figure out that you're in your pajamas?" She asks.

"M-maybe..." You say.

That gets a laugh out of her.

"Hey... it's been a rough morning, okay?" You say. "Err... afternoon, I guess"

"I was told you'd gone down to visit a difficult prisoner first thing after you woke up" She says.

"I went to see Cheska first" You say.

"Something happen to her?" Caiah asks.

"She got her heart back" You say.

...

"Seriously?" Caiah asks. "How? When?"

"I don't know, and probably during or after the fight" You say. "She tried to save me from Mahron. She almost died, that's..."

"That's why you used that power" Caiah says. "She should have died, by all rights"

"But she didn't" You say.

"She gave up her life to save another" She says. "There was nothing for her to gain from it but death... and now she's human again"

"You think that's what caused it?" You ask.

"Think about it" She says. "The blood demon's sin is sadism. What is sadism's opposite?"

"I dunno" You say.

"Archibald told me one time that it was altruism" She says. "If killing and causing pain for your own pleasure is what turns you into a demon, then taking pain and dying for others is what can change you back"

"Except... you know... the dying part" You say. "Which didn't happen"

"But it should have" She says. "You know that. She knew that. That's what made the difference"

She pauses for a moment to sip her tea, as Coral flies over to your cup to refill hers.

"I thought you'd be happier" She says.

"Me too..." You say. "I feel a bit... dull right now"

"You're still working off the effects of that power. Give it time" She says. "One of the other Yuus may not have felt the same way about her as you do, and that conflict is numbing you to the emotions you should be feeling"

"I hope you're right..." You say.

"So who's the prisoner?" Caiah asks.

"A dark angel named Raven" You say. "She had this boon..."

"Controlled people's brains?" She asks.

"Yes... how did you know?" You ask.

"Terry mentioned it when I ran into him on the way here" She says. "It was made from the little pieces of Raligos that managed to return to its master. It carries the Deviant Soul's power to erase a person's will"

"Did he say anything about it backfiring?" You ask.

"I don't think so... why?" She asks.

"Because it backfired on her after I destroyed it" You say. "Whenever I tell her to do something, she just... does it. I told her to sleep before the fight, and I had to go down and wake her up today"

"Because you destroyed the boon? Maybe..." She says. "I'm not sure how that might work, to be honest. If Terry is in a friendly mood next time you meet, try asking him"

"He's not coming here... is he?" You ask.

"He's in the area. Knowing him... yes" She says.

"That's the last thing I want to deal with..." You say.

"He won't try anything here. He was the one who told me you used that power. Apparently he... felt it?" She says. "I dunno, he said a lot of things that didn't make a whole lot of sense there..."

"What did he say?" You ask.

"I dunno... something about finding a girl who was into tentacles" She says. "He says a lot of things that make no sense. You learn to tune some of it out after a while"

"Well... if he's coming here I guess I can ask him myself" You say.

"Who knows? Maybe you'll even get an answer" She says.

You sit quietly, sipping tea for a minute while Coral darts in to refill her cup again and again...

"Mahron was much, much stronger than any other demon I've faced" You say. "He didn't even have a boon... what the hell is he?"

"I wish i could tell you that, Yuu" She says.

"Is that an 'I know but won't tell you' or an 'I don't know and can't tell you'?" You ask.

"The second one" She says. "Even his closest comrades don't know what's under the mask. All they know is that he's a demon, and he's stronger than the competition so he's the boss"

"Think his arms will grow back?" You ask.

"He likely regenerated them with his magic as soon as the fight ended" She says.

"Damn..." You say. "Guess I'll have to cut 'em off again next time. Say, do you wanna maybe spar a bit later?"

"I can't stick around that long. I've put my journey on hold too long as it is" She says. "I just... when Coral came to me I had feared the worst"

"You're leaving so soon? You just got here" You say.

"Good luck out there" You say.

"Right back at you" She says. "Keep an eye out for Terry... he should be here sometime today"

"Do you need anything for the trip?" You ask.

"I should be good. I'll have plenty of supplies" She says. "Thank you, though"

"No, thank you for coming to see me" You say. "And for this goopy stuff... which you might wanna wash off, by the way"

"Ah crap..." She says, licking her finger and wiping the stuff off of her eye. "I would've gone all the way to Kirando like that if you hadn't said anything"

"No problem. Can anyone use that stuff?" You ask.

"Just you, and anyone with a similar eye colour" She says. "It's translucent, so it's coloured to be red over our gold eyes"

"I see..." You say.

You walk with Caiah to the door, where she left her Raptor.

"So I ran into Derrick on the way here... he had an interesting mount" She says. "When did those two happen?"

"During the fight, I think" You say. "Or before... I didn't really get a chance to ask"

"They make a cute couple. I never thought I'd see someone so glad to have a person riding on her back, but that centaur..." She says. "Anyways, give everyone my best, and remember-"

"Don't use that power" You say. "I know"

She gives you a hug. "Hang in there, buddy. Things won't always be this difficult" She says.

You return her embrace. "Not much else I can do" You reply.

She lets you go and steps over to her Raptor. It's a fine creature, with shining scales and feathered arms that stands easily a foot over you.

"Where'd you get this one?" You ask.

"I borrowed her from a Legionnaire" She says, patting the side of the beast's snout. "Her name's Gloria. Ain't she the cutest?"

"In a Raptor-y sort of way, I suppose..." You say.

Caiah laughs. "See you around, Yuu" She says.

"I look forward to it" You reply.

She gives the beast a spoken command, and it takes off. It's not as fast as the Rook, that's for sure. But then the Rook can't tear out someone's throat...

Maybe you can get Gretchen working on that.

Later. Business now.

You know, I think picking "the most powerful Yuu" was the smart choice for another reason, now.
We're focusing a lot on magical theory, concentration, and willpower. Potentially moreso than the strongest Yuu or the most skilled Yuu. If we ever end up using that one specific power again, where we borrow traits from others, that focus might help us to keep in control, and to mitigate some of the personality changes from the other Yuus.

That's definitely Lyvia swooping in at breakneck speeds.

She spreads her wings and slows down a little as she approaches, but it's not enough. Not nearly enough.

The little Leviathan still slams into you with enough force to nearly knock you off your feet, and possibly break a few more of your ribs.

You stumble back and cough as she clings onto you.

"Hey there" You say, once the coughing has stopped. "Miss me?"

"I was not worried" She says.

"I've mostly been reading on my own. She's spent much of her time at your bedside" She says. "But now you're awake, and I'm glad"

"I thought you didn't miss me" You say.

You go inside with Lyvia and head up to Belladonna's office.

She's in there, along with Priestess Arianne. They're eating supper at the moment.

Belladonna looks to you and smiles. "Welcome back" She says.

Arianne seems confused. She clearly knows there's someone at the door, but doesn't know it's you.

"Sorry for making you wait so long" You say.

Arianne smiles. "Is that Lord Yuu?" She asks, as she stands up. "You have awoken? We were quite worried"

"I'm all good now... ribs could use a touch up, but otherwise good" You say.

The priestess walks over and hugs you. She seems quite sure of your position, and that nothing is in her way.

She's also not quite as scrawny as she was yester... 5 days ago. She must be eating well here.

"I am glad you are well" She says.

"I'm glad you're doing okay, too" You say. "Have we started repairs on the church yet?"

Arianne steps back and smiles. "As you said, the people have already begun rebuilding it. They started working the day after the battle" She says.

"That's good" You say. "Any idea when it will be finished?"

The priestess pouts. "Hoping to have me out of your household?" She asks.

"Of course not, you're always welcome here" You say.

Belladonna chuckles. "It will be done in a few days" She says.

"See? This is why I went and set everything up beforehand. That way I could take a five day nap, and all the work got done for me" You say, as you sit down. "How's the rest of the town looking?"

Belladonna pulls out a list from her desk, and starts reading it out. It's full of stuff like how businesses are doing, the cleanup efforts from the siege, the need to create a design for the new port, and finally a report on resistance movements within the city.

"Are they building up to something?" You asks.

"I do not believe so" Lianna says. "It is likely that this is all just more of the usual for them, but you have the support of at least some of the people after the battle. They would never report these things to you if you didn't"

"I guess that must've taken a bump after that night, huh" You say.

"We... had something to do with that" Lyvia says. "You putting your life on the line and suffering grievous wounds while stopping Mahron from tearing down the gate was an easy tale to spread"

"So I'm a hero now" You say.

"What about the guards I had to send away?" You ask.

"Currently on punitive duty, cleaning latrines and such..." Belladonna says. "The Captain was waiting for you to awaken before giving them an actual punishment"

"I'll think of something. I don't want to be to hard on them, but they need to serve the city first and the resistance either second or not at all" You say. "We were this close to losing Raven, and all of the information she had"

"Raven... she is the one in the dungeons, yes?" Belladonna asks.

"Yes. She's awake now, by the way" You say. "She uhh... took a bit of a beating from the resistance guys"

"I see..." Belladonna says. You aren't sure if she believes you about that, but she probably wouldn't believe the truth either.

Heck, you can hardly believe it at times.

"What about these reports on resistance movements?" You ask

"Once they started coming in, they went straight to your commanders" She says. "If you want details, you'll have to get them there. But we do have some stuff..."

Most of what Belladonna knows is just general stuff. It sounds like the resistance is moving supplies around and trying to stockpile weapons.

"That's never a good thing" You say. "I wish they'd just talk to us..."

"Perhaps we could spread that message. If enough of the townspeople hear it, it's bound to reach their ears" She says.

"Yeah. Do it" You say. "I want to meet their leaders. Get them in on this invasion, and then we can work things out like adults"

Belladonna nods, making a mental note to do some work with that.

"Do you require anything else?" She asks.

You say farewell to Belladonna and Lianna, asking Lianna if she'd be willing to give you some advice later before you go.

"My ears are always open" Lianna says. "Come to me anytime"

You thank her and head out, walking with Lyvia to the kitchens.

"So you guys turned me into a hero, huh?" You ask.

"To be fair, you did that yourself. We just used the story as a quick way to get the people on our side" She says.

"You're starting to sound like my mother..." You say.

"Thank you" She replies.

You get to the kitchens and acquire food, bringing it to one of the dining halls to eat.

Unfortunately, one of the maids interrupts before you can dig in.

"Ummm... sir?" She asks.

You don't think you know this one's name. She's fairly short, with red hair and hooves.

"What is it?" You ask.

"I wasn't sure if I should bother you with this, but someone just went down into the dungeon" She says.

"Were they one of ours?" You ask.

"A-alright" She says, blushing slightly.

Lyvia is busy eating, so she stays behind as you head down to the dungeon.

You start hearing talking as you walk down the stairs. It sounds like Raven... counting backwards.

When you reach the bottom you find that Terry has broken into Raven's cell...

Raven is doing a handstand, still counting backwards while Terry writes something on her exposed stomach. You can see tears in her eyes.

You reach for your blade, but you're still in your pajamas... so you charge up a spell instead.

"Oh. I didn't expect you to come back so soon" Terry says, the cap of his pen in his mouth. "I suppose I won't need to leave you this note now, will I?"

"Raven stop that" You say.

Raven falls off of her hands and knees, stops counting, and scurries into a corner of the cell.

"What did you do?" You ask.

"What did I-... What did I do?" Terry asks in an incredulous tone. "Jeez, can't a guy make a girl stand upside down so he can write a note on her stomach, then make her count backwards so she'll stop talking, without being questioned?"

...

"Fine. Fine" He says. "Raven, be a dear and tell him what I did"

"He came in and said he wanted to leave a message for you" Raven says. The look on her face tells you that she's not talking willingly. "Then he told me to stand on my hands and stay still, then to count backwards from 50"

That's... not a very high number. But then she was counting very slowly.

"How?" You ask Terry.

"Well, I defeated Raligos at one point, obviously" He says. "The moment this one used that boon, her will was tied to it. When it was destroyed, it became forfeit to those who have defeated the Deviant Soul of Will"

"Why are you here?" You ask.

"What? I- Can't a man pay a friendly visit to an acquiantance... slash enemy?" He asks. "And here I was concerned for your well being, performing a reckless possibility sync like that"

"You know about that?" You ask.

"Of course I know" He says. "I could feel it all the way in Indonesia. Do you know why you've been asleep for five days? It's because your very essence was being torn in three directions. You won that struggle. Next time you might not, and the man who wakes from that sleep won't be you"

This is a little weird, but...
I kind of want to ask HIM for a spar too. A nonlethal one, just to see where we stand against him. I feel like it has a 50% chance of him accepting it. I just...really want to see what a fight between two pure demons is like.

"When did you fight Raligos?" You ask.

"A long time ago... and a long time from now" He says. "It's complicated, but I promise that when you get all the details it will make perfect sense"

"And why do you care about whether I make it through a... possibility sync or not?" You ask.

"Because I want to fight you" He says. "I want you to get as strong as you can, and fight you. If you cock it up and become someone else... well that just ruins the fun now, doesn't it?"

"You're insane" You say.

"Of course I am" He says. "Do you have any idea how droll life is when you're not crazy?"

You sigh. "Well I'm here, so why not just fight me now?"

Terry looks at you, and then starts laughing. He stops for a second and turns back to Raven. "My goodness, will you get a load of this guy?" He asks.

Raven looks afraid, but she starts to move forward.

"Stop that! Not that kind of load, you god damn whore" He says. "Laugh at him with me"

Raven starts laughing, despite looking absolutely terrified.

"Okay enough of that" Terry says. "You... had to break reality just to fight back against a fucking nobody like Mahron, and you think you're ready for me? If I fought you- really fought you -you would not stand a chance"

Terry steps closer, suddenly becoming much more intimidating than he was a second ago.

"And I mean that in the sincerest of ways" He says. "Every single ability that you can use, I have mastered. All the problems you might have, I have overcome. You think you're strong? I'm stronger. You think you're fast? I'm faster. You think you're skilled? You're like a baby bashing his toys around compared to me"

...

"Buuuuut that's all the time I have. Caiah got off a teensy bit too easy last time I saw her, so I think I'll go harass her for a bit" He says, cutting a shadowy hole in the space next to him. "Toodles"

You say nothing as he leaves, and for a long moment it's very quiet.

"He... is he gone?" Raven asks. "He's gone right?"

Raven is still in the corner, so you go over and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Are you aright?" You ask.

"Am I alright?" She replies. "That guy just walked in here and made me stand upside down so he could write some stupid fucking note on my body. I couldn't even ask him to stop because I couldn't even stop counting and I can't even count that high in the first place and... and..."

She starts bawling her eyes out, and you're not entirely sure if you should comfort her... but in the end you sit next to her and lend her a shoulder.

While she cries, you think of what Terry told you. There's only one period of time where he could have fought Raligos in the past... and in the future... if he fought Raligos in the future, does that mean you fail?

"I'm sorry" Raven says as her tears slow. "I'll be good, I promise. Just... keep me safe from that guy"

"I'm not-"

"Please?" She asks.

"Fine... I'll try my best" You say. It's a lie, and you think she knows that. You probably couldn't stop Terry if he tried to come down here again. "But I want to see your stomach"

"All that shy boy play, and now you want me to-"

"I want to see what he wrote" You say.

"F-fine..." She says, sliding away to sit in front of you. She lifts up her shirt so you can see her stomach. "That good?"

The writing is all upside down like this, but you can read it just fine... it says: 'Hey Yuu. Just thought I'd let you know that you're a worthless adversary if you have to sync to beat Mahron. Try to remember that you have no real limits but the ones you set on yourself. Unlimited power is at your fingertips, you just have to grasp it. And one last thing. This is very important-'

The note doesn't end there, but it does go up underneath Raven's... chest.

"C-could you... uhh...just"

"Just...?"

"L-lift up your uhh... chest for me?" You ask.

She raises an eyebrow and arches her back. "Like this?" She asks.

"No... I meant-"

"I know what you meant. You're a man, not a child. Say it"

"Lift up your breasts" You say.

"Better" She says, almost too eager to follow that order...

The note continues: 'Gotcha. Great chest ahe'

You groan and tell her to put her shirt back down.

"Did it say anything important?" She asks. "And by that I mean important enough to put me through all of that?"

"Kind of..." You say. "Hey, I thought you were going to be good. What's with you making me say... stuff"

"Breasts, hun" She says. "It's just a word. It won't bite"

You roll your eyes.

"And if you must know, I'm trying to help you" She says.

"How is this helping?" You ask.

She raises an eyebrow, then lift up her shirt. You try not to look at her chest, but it's... right there.

Then she smacks you across the face and pulls her shirt back down.

"Ow! What the hell?" You ask.

"You were distracted" She says. "Imagine this were a real fight. That sort of distraction could be your end, or worse"

"This isn't a fight" You reply.

"But if it were?" She asks. "Imagine if Cheska hadn't been there with you. I've never been an amazing fighter, so you'd beat me easily, back me into a corner and..."

She lifts up her shirt again, shaking from side to side this time. You try not to get distracted, but that fails. Then you get poked in the eye.

"Oops. Guess what just happened?" She asks.

"I died?" You ask.

"Worse. I just stuck that boon into your brain. Now you're my slave instead of the other way around" She says. "I think I'll keep you close by so I can refresh my control, make sure you stay mine long enough to do some real damage, spill some real secrets. All because you couldn't help yourself"

"I get it" You say. "I'm too easily distracted"

"Please, you're a man. You really can't help it. Not when breasts as nice as mine come out" She says. "But if your focus breaks so easily, then you won't last very long..."

"Why's that? Is every opponent going to start shaking their chest at me?" You ask.

"Did you know that demons of body are the most common demon in the legion?" She asks. "Do you know what turned most of them into demons?"

"Lust?" You ask.

"Lust" She replies. "Once they figure out that sexuality is a crack in your armor, they've got plenty of sluttier girls than me to throw into it"

"And you want to help me of your own free will" You say.

"As my thanks" She says. "Now that I've seen how bad things could be, I'd like to show my appreciation"

"Really" You say, not really buying it.

"Really" She says.

"Tell me the real reason" You say.

"That was the real reason" She says. "And if I can't manage to seduce you, then I don't want those other whores getting free shots on you because tits draw your eyes like a magnet"

"That doesn't make sense" You say.

She shrugs. "Don't answer me now. Think about it and if you want to give it a try, come back here tonight" She says. "For now you should go. You only came down to check in, I assume"

"Right..." You say. "We'll see"

"And maybe bring down a wash bucket?" She asks, revealing the note on her stomach again.

"That I can do"

So Mahron isn't even the final boss? And Terry is so strong you might assume he's another version of Yuu or something like that?

What a ride.
>>
Also one more thing, we should probably mention what Caiah and Terry told us regarding possibilty syncs to Altea and/or someone else who holds weight in the millitary.

I doubt anyone who sincerely cares about Yuu would want him to use something that knocks him out for 5 days, but I fear someone might try to turn this ability into a trump card or incorporate it in some future plan as an actual military asset.
>>
>>2500899
Yeah it would be bad if that happened without our input

P.S get rid of raven
>>
>>2500899
I think in general it's a good idea if we have several people in our confidence. We want to keep this a very closely-held secret, but aside from not pushing its use recklessly and coming up with an excuse for the soldiers who would wonder why we won't go 110% for them, we also want to make sure someone can keep us under observation if we do use it.

Also we really need to make clear what is affecting Raven. She's a permanent double agent (or more). Whoever is minding her needs to understand that she cannot be compelled or threatened or anything if Terry is involved. It's also not beyond reason to think that somehow Mahron was given authority equivalent to Terry by the Black God.

We also don't understand the mechanics of this control either. It sounds like orders can be overridden, but these commands also seem to affect physiology like making Raven sleep. I expect this control has ways it can be manipulated against us beyond the obvious of Terry telling Raven to shoot us in the back.

You head back upstairs, deciding to finally get dressed before you do anything else. Say what you will about how comfy your pajamas are, walking around in them in the afternoon just doesn't look good for you.

Then you head back down to the dining hall where you left your breakfast/dinner.

Lyvia is gone... your maid tells you that a sprite arrived for her while you were away, but that she said she'll be back soon.

"Jeez. Pass out for a few days and suddenly nobody has time for me" You say, as you sit down.

You eat up quickly and head out. You still have a lot to do, so you'll start with-

You figure you should go see someone about the pain in your ribs before you do anything else, so you decide to check in with Monique.

You find her in what is to become the Nurse's office in the manor, getting all her stuff set up. She's got a couple of beds, a few vials of stuff, a bunch of books...

"Hello" You say.

She turns her eye to you and smiles.

"Good afternoon, sir!" She says. "How are you feeling?"

"Good... well, mostly" You say.

"Sit right there! You can be my first patient" She says.

You sit down on the bed, and she pulls her chair over. You note that she's modified her uniform now to be more 'nurse-y'.

"Now, where does it hurt?" She asks.

"Kinda in... here" You say, pointing to your lower ribs.

"Ah yes... your ribs were broken in the fight. We set them and did some healing, but didn't wwant to do anything else until you woke up" She says. "Alright. Lay back and I can get to work"

"You can do healing magic?" You ask as you follow her instructions.

"I wouldn't be much of a nurse if I couldn't use healing magic..." She says. "I'm not the best, but I can mend it well enough that it will stop hurting. After that you'll need to take it easy for bit"

"How long is a bit?" You ask.

"A couple of days" She says.

"I'll try" You say.

Monique smiles and turns her eye down to your wounds, then she lifts your shirt and gets started.

Her magic isn't like Emi's. Whenever Emi healed you it was cool and wet, this feels warm. It isn't like Naiah's tingly roots either.

"What kind of magic is that?" You ask.

"Fire" She replies.

"I didn't think fire magic could be used to heal" You say.

"Any magic can be used to heal, if you care to learn" She replies. "Water and nature are the most common, since they're the easiest. But I've met plenty of healers who use other elements"

"How does fire healing magic work?" You ask.

"Same way everything else does, but with fire" She says. "The element is just a medium for the other energies being put to work. A sort of... signalling method. Nature is the easiest to use like that, so most healing magic tends to lean towards it"

While Monique works, you listen to her talk about healing magic. You never really studied it at all, figuring you couldn't use it. But now that you're hearing the details described like this... you have to admit that you're a little curious. You decide to ask her about it.

"Could you...?" She says. "Possibly. You would have to figure it out on your own, though. When I decided to become a healer there were plenty of books for me to learn from, even for such a niche topic as healing fire"

"I'll think about it. If I do feel like learning, do you think you could teach me a bit more about it?" You ask. "The more I understand about it, the better I can apply my knowledge"

"Of course, sir. You know I'd never turn you down" She says, as she pulls her hands away. "There. All done"

You put a hand on your ribs, and it feels like it's completely healed. But you know better. Emi told you once that mending bones can't be done in one sitting, so you'll have to take it easy for a bit. It also feels very warm...

Monique hands you a cold, damp cloth to hold over it to cool off.

"One of the downsides of healing fire" She says. "Fire needs heat, and there are dangers to applying too much of it"

"I can handle a little heat" You reply, as you pull the cloth away and stand up.

"How does it feel?" Monique asks

"Much better, thank you" You say.

"No need to thank me, sir" She says, stepping in and giving you a hug. "I'm just glad you're back"

You give the cyclops a squeeze, and she steps away.

"Will you be staying for a while?" She asks.

"No. Though I'd love to talk more about healing magic sometime" You say. "Right now there's still a bunch of people I need to see"

"Very well. You know where I'll be if anything ails you" She says.

You say goodbye to Monique and head out, getting Coral to point you in the direction of Derrick.

She leads you out of the manor, pointing into town. The Rook is right by the entrance, so you hop on and get moving.

You find him back at the training yard taking a break. He smiles and jumps to his feet when he sees you.

"Yuu!" He says. "The Commander said you were up and about, are you alright?"

"I'm good now" You say, giving his fist a bump.

"What happened back there?" He asks. "I took my eyes off you for a second, and suddenly Mahron was coming out of the weapon..."

You tell him your side of things, leaving out the part about syncing for now.

You tell him about the syncing. How you saw that there was no way you could beat Mahron or save Cheska withyour own strength, so you borrowed strength from other possible versions of you.

"I needed to be faster, so I borrowed the speed of the fastest me. I needed a stronger blade, so I borrowed the skills of a me with a better blade" You say. "Then... I passed out"

"You really had us worried, you know" He says. He doesn't seem put off by what you did. But then he's seen you do some crazy stuff. "Try to avoid doing that, if it takes such a toll on you"

"Why?" You ask.

"We're all members of the royal family" He says. "He wouldn't say as much hmself, but I think the king just doesn't want a repeat of... last time"

"That makes sense" You say. "Any idea who's coming in with the extra troops?"

"A small contingent of the Royal Guard, a bunch of knights from the Holy Order... the Commander also called in the machinists to see if setting up automatons here would be feasible or not" He says. "Just for an estimate, though. She said she'd wait to make any decisions on that until you woke up"

"Yeah, I already had that discussion with her about the cannon" You say. "So... you and Marybell, huh?"

He scratches his head. "Y-yeah... I guess that kinda came out of nowhere" He says. "She was teaching me a few bow tricks the night before the fight, and we kinda ended up... kissing... a little. Then she asked me if I wanted to ride her during the battle, and I said yes"

"You two make a good team" You say.

"We do..." He says. "You scared the heck out of her when you ran past us, though. Where'd you learn to do that?"

"Just then" You say. "I used the magic of the Wind Emblem. Apparently Calist was known for being super fast, so I figured I could borrow some of that"

"Well if fast was your goal, you reached it" He says. "You seem to be full of tricks lately"

"It keeps me alive" You say. "And everybody else, too"

"Afraid Marybell will see you and get jealous?" You ask.

"You joke, but that is a real danger" He says. "She's already angry that you can go faster than her..."

"Is she really angry?" You ask.

"A little angry" He says.

"Well, if it'll comfort her tell her I had to call on the power of an ancient hero and funnel my magic through an ancient Wind Monster to do it" You say. "She can still beat me in a straight foot race"

"I think she'll be glad to hear it like that" He says.

You talk about the siege and the preparations to move south as you walk back to the manor. Apparently everything was going very smoothly until they rolled up that siege weapon.

"It was like nothing I've ever seen before" He says. "Our own siegemasters have been studying it the entire time you've been out. They say it's one of the most complex machines they've ever seen"

"Where did the Legion get that kind of tech?" You ask.

"Who knows?" Derrick asks. "They obviously have someone working on new weapons for them. They've been studying the cannon that was strapped to that dragon too"

"Maybe they've forced some researchers into working for them" You say.

"Or they've got some smart demons" He replies. "Either way, we should be prepared to face more things like that..."

You reach the manor and head up to Cheska's room. When you get there the door is only open by a crack, and you hear her talking to someone... Monique maybe?

You give the door a knock, trying not to eavesdrop... but it sounds like something bad may have happened.

"Not now..." Cheska says. "Who's there?"

"It's me" You say. "Err... Yuu"

Cheska asks Monique about getting rid of something, but Monique doesn't seem sure.

"Is everything okay in there?" You ask.

"Okay, fine..." Cheska says, turning her back towards you.

She has wings now. Little ones that barely go past her shoulders.

"Whoa" You say. "Where'd those come from?"

>>Well I think they're adorable

You go over and hug her from the side in an attempt to calm her down.

"But what if they got big enough that you could fly... that would be pretty rad" You say.

"I guess so..." She says. "I just... I just got my heart back, and I wanted to be me again..."

"You are you again. The wings don't change that" You say. "And if they don't grow bigger, then they're actually kinda cute like this"

"Y-you think so?" She asks.

"I know so" You say.

"Can they get big enough, though?" Cheska asks Monique.

"I-I'm not sure..." The cyclops replies. "It might take a while to grow them all the way, and you'd need to eat a lot to make up the energy it would take..."

Cheska purses her lips as she thinks, leaning her head into your chest and giving the little wings a flap.

"Let's do it" She says, as she steps away from you.

"You sure?" You ask.

"Yeah" She replies. "Maybe... maybe I'm not supposed to go back to being what I was before. And I have to admit, being able to fly would be pretty cool"

Cheska gets Monique to start working her magic again, and you head back to Derrick.

"She's really human" He says. "Heart and everything?"

"I felt its beat myself" You say.

"Does Fran know yet?" He asks.

"Not yet. I'm not even sure if Cheska's written to her ye-"

You're interrupted by a maid knocking on the door. You go over and see who it is.

It's Haley, the insectoid who usually watches the door.

"What is it?" You ask.

"There's some people at the door for you" She says. "They claim to be scholars from the Archive"

"Oh, cool" You say. "I guess those people from Leon have arrived"

"Right on time" Derrick says.

"Just send them into Graumer's old lab. They'll find everything they need there" You say.

"Well... one of them was very insistent that you come down and meet them" She says. "i told her that you were busy, but..."

Her...? You can only think of one woman who might travel with the scholars, but why would she come here?

"Alright. I'll be right down" You say.

You let everyone know that you'll be right back, but Derrick decides to come with you.

"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" He asks.

"Probably" You reply.

You get to the front door, and there's a bunch of scholars and scribes waiting for you.

There's also Fran.

"There you boys are!" Fran says, as she runs over and hugs the two of you. "I'm so glad you're safe!"

"Fran... what are you doing here?" You ask.

"I came for your request" She says, as she lets the two of you go, and starts looking you over. "You look pale... have you been eating properly?"

"I'm fine" You reply.

"Cheska is here, isn't she? Can I see her? Is she alright?" She asks.

"She's here..." You say. "Just give me a minute, please"

"Oh. Sure" Fran says.

She occupies herself talking to Derrick while you take your leave and show the scholars to Graumer's vault. With any luck they can translate the books to modern Lubrian and put them on new paper so they'll last.

Before heading back you send Coral to Cheska with a note, giving her a head's up that Fran is here. As nice as it would be to surprise her, you're not sure she can handle any more surprises today. Even pleasant ones...

Heck, even getting a note from a sprite might surprise her. Coral wouldn't even go near her before.

"Alright. That's done" You say, as you return to Derrick and Fran.

"Good, now where's my sister?" Fran asks. "She has a lot to answer for, disappearing like that..."

You may want to stall her for a bit, to give Cheska time to prepare...

"Where are the little devils?" You ask.

"Where...? Well they're..." Fran turns around, and sighs. "I should have known something was wrong when they started being quiet"

"You don't think something happened to them..." You say.

"No. My mother sense never went off. That means..." She says, takig a deep breath. "Girls, you have until the count of three to come out. One... Two... Thr-"

Lily pops out from behind a bush on the other end of the short drawbridge, but you don't see Daisy... until you look down and spot the little puddle of shadow at your feet, as it turns into a little blue devil that clings to your leg.

"Hi" Daisy says.

"Me too! Meeeeee tooooooo!" Lily shouts, as she runs up and hugs your other leg. "Hi"

Fran rubs her temples, and you can tell it's been a looooong trip with these two.

"What made you come out here?" You ask, as you pick up the little devils. "I mean... I get that you might have wanted to see me, but this is still a contested city"

"It's safe now, isn't it?" She asks. "Besides, I'm no pushover"

"But them...?" You ask.

"We can handle ourselve!" Lily says.

"Y-yeah!" Daisy says, clearly much less confident than Lily.

...

"Boo" You say to Daisy, who squeals and hides her head in your shoulder.

"I couldn't leave them back in Leon... who would take care of them?" She asks.

"Have you heard from Lance at all?" You ask.

"He writes every chance he gets" She says. "Which is not often. They're running ragged up there trying to keep everyone prepared to leave, while still keeping everyone based..."

"You couldn't have sent the girls up there?" You ask.

"They didn't want to go up north" She says.

"Really?" You ask. "You know Gabby is lonely up there, don't you?"

"Nuh-uh" Lily says. "She's learnin' how to heal!"

"They're pen pals" Fran says. "I pack their letters in with mine so lance can give them to Gabby, and he does the same thing with hers"

"Aww, that's sweet of you guys" You say. "And you're here now, so I guess you can stay at my house"

"You don't have to do that. The Archive is paying for a place in town" She says.

"I insist" You say. "I want to make sure you guys are safe and well taken care of"

"Well... if you insist" She says. "Where is your house? So I can swing by later"

You and Derrick exchange a glance.

"You gonna tell her?" He asks.

"Tell me what?" Fran asks. "Is there some big secret?"

"This is my house" You say.

Fran laughs for a second, then stops. "Oh my goodness you're serious" She says. "So you're..."

"The current Lord of Lutain, yes" You say.

"I'm turning it into an orphanage" You say.

"How's that going?" She asks.

"Pretty well. We already have one orphan" You say.

"Just one?" She asks.

"A little one" You say. "But, war is war. Parents die sometimes, and children will always need a place. So I'm making one"

"That is very... Yuu" Fran says.

"Are we allowed to stay here?" Daisy asks.

"Yeah... why wouldn't you be?" You ask.

"'Cause we've still got parents, an' this is an orphanage" She says.

"It's also my house. And you guys-" You pause to give them both a peck on the cheek. "-are always welcome"

The little devils hug you, and you smile.

"I missed you guys" You say. "Come on, let's go inside"

You head inside, stopping to let Haley know that 2 more rooms need to be prepared, one for Fran and another for Lily and Daisy, then start slowly heading up to Cheska's room.

She's had enough time to prepare now, but you can still take your time getting up there.

"So What have you two been up to these days?" Fran asks. "I heard there was a battle a few days back"

"I've been sleeping" You say.

"Just... sleeping?" She asks.

"Yeah. I overdid it in the fight" You say. "So badly that Caiah and Terry both stopped in to tell me that what I did was a bad idea"

"How mad do you think Lyvia will be when she finds out Terry was here?" Derrick asks.

"So mad" You reply. "Which is why I'm... probably not going to tell her"

"Who is Lyvia?" Fran asks.

"Well..."

>1/2
>>
"Sounds like it's been quite the adventure" She says. "I'd say it's a shame I missed it, but I think my little prison trip was enough for one lifetime..."

"Can we still go on adventures?" Lily asks.

"Only when you're older" Fran says.

"I am older!" Lily replies.

"You are? That's wonderful news!" Fran says. "That means you can cook your own meals, start paying your own bills..."

"I take it back! I take it back! I'm not older!" Lily says.

Fran gives Lily a little kiss. "I know, sweetie. I've got a few more yearsof cute little you yet" She says.

With that, you arrive at Cheska's room. Before lettig Fran inside, you take a peek. Cheska is there with Monique, her little wings having grown a bit.

You nod to her, and she nods back, signalling that yes, she's as ready as she can be.

"Okay. Here we are" You say.

"Is he going to act like we didn't just see that?" Fran asks.

"Shush" You say, as you open up the door.

"Cheska!" Fran says, as she swoops into the room and embraces her sister. "You have wings now. When did you get those?"

"Five minutes ago" Cheska replies.

Fran pulls away to get a look at Cheska. "Your eyes... what-" She looks around at everyone else. "They're not red"

"N-no... they're not" Cheska says. "A lot's happened..."

"Yuu... how come her eyes aren't red?" Fran asks. "The only reason I can think of should be impossible..."

You figure you'll back off and let them do this between each other.

...

Hopefully you don't get left outside this time.

Fran puts a hand on Cheska's chest, feeling for a heartbeat. She startles when she feels it. "Cheska... you-"

"I did it" Cheska says.

Both of them are starting to tear up, as Fran hugs Cheska again. They don't say anything for a while, just holding each other and crying.

Monique decides to excuse herself after a moment, not wanting to intrude.

"Yuu, why are they crying?" Daisy asks. "Did something bad happen?"

"Something good" You reply. "People cry when they're happy too"

"Oh" Daisy says. "Like the time Lily cried because of that caterpillar?"

"I wasn't cryin'!" Lily says. "I just had something in my eye"

You chuckle and decide to sit down, Derrick follows suit. It might be a while until Fran and Cheska finish, and you'd rather not just stand around while your arms get tired.

"Who was that lady at the door?" Lily asks.

"That was Haley. She works for me" You say.

"You have maids now?" Daisy asks. "Are any of 'em like us?"

"No, none of them are devils" You say. "There's a priestess here who's a devil though"

"Is she cool?" Lily asks.

"I'd say she's pretty cool..." You say.

"Can you tell us a story?" Daisy asks.

You look back at Fran and Cheska, who show no signs of calming down...

"Yeah, why not?" You say.

The devils settle into your lap, and you begin.

"So, I was up north fighting in the tournament..."

Fran and Cheska sit on the bed, while Cheska tells Fran what she got up to after she left.

Daisy has fallen asleep on you, but Lily is still wide awake.

"And then this just... happened?" Fran asks.

Cheska puts a hand on her heart. "I guess so" She says.

"It didn't just happen... I kind had to break reality just to make sure you didn't die" You say.

"And that, yeah" Cheska says.

...

You're not sure if it should worry you that everyone is being so casual about you breaking reality...

"What will you do now?" Fran asks.

"I dunno yet... I wanna keep fighting the good fight, but I'm a little weak right now..." She says.

"I'd offer to take you back to when I return, but I think you should stay away from demon specialists for now" Fran says. "They mean well, but scholars tend to have issues with boundaries when there's discoveries to be made"

"Yeah, I don't realy want to become a test subject" Cheska says.

"As I said, you're always welcome here" You say.

"And I'm sure we can find someone willing to train you, if you want to get stronger" Derrick says. "Just throwin' that out there"

"You'll find your own strength, I'm sure of it" You say. "What do you think about all this, Fran?"

Fran hugs Cheska from the side. "I get my sister back again. I'm happy" She says, pinching Cheska's cheek. "And this time she doesn't have a reason to disappear!"

"Yeah..." Cheska says.

Fran gasps. "Oh! We can go shopping together! I can buy you a cute dress, just like you always wanted" She says.

"I wanted that when I was like... 6" Cheska says.

"And I've wanted it ever since" Fran says. "I'm sorry I left you alone"

"I'm sorry I killed our parents... and burnt our house down... and disappeared without saying goodbye" Cheska says. "My chest feels all droopy... is this what being sad is like?"

Fran nods.

"Okay" Cheska says, as she leans into her sister. "But nothing frilly, okay? I'm a woman now so I want something that looks good"

"Done" Fran says.

You chuckle at the two of them.

"What?" Cheska asks. "I'm allowed to want to be pretty..."

"I just thought it was funny that the first thing you guys want to do is go dress shopping..." You say.

"It's a girl thing" Derrick says.

You look out the window and see that it's getting late. Lily has now joined her sister in dreamland, and despite the fact that you slept for 5 days straight you feel kinda tired yourself.

You shift the sleeping devils into a more comfortable position, and turn to Fran.

"So how long will you be staying in Lutain?" You ask.

"Until the scholars leave. I'm in a bit of a weird place with them when I'm one of them, but I'm not officially one of them... you know?" She asks. "I'll be aiding in the extrapolation of new information, but not in the actual discovering of that information"

"That... kinda sucks" You say. "At least you have your foot in the door"

"Hang on... extrapo-what now?" Cheska asks.

"Extrapolation" You say. "Basically just means taking what you know and using it to figure out things that you don't"

"Ohhhh" Cheska says.

Daisy stirs, grasping your shirt and moving her legs like she's having a dream. You give her a comforting squeeze and she settles down.

"Aww..." Cheska says.

"You wanna take her?" You ask.

"M-me? Really?" She asks.

"She's your niece" You say. "No reason for you not to anymore"

Cheska gets a big smile on her face and looks to Fran. Fran nods, so she hops over to you and gently takes the little blue devil.

"She's... heavier than she looks" Cheska says, as she goes back to sit down. She strokes Daisy's cheek with her tail, and the little devil turns and hugs her. Cheska is love struck.

"Alright. That's going up there on the list of the cutest things I've ever seen" You say.

"Derrick, you've known me my entire life. Why does that surprise you?" You ask.

"That's... a good point" He says. "So what's on this list?"

"Well... this" You say, pointing to Cheska and Daisy. "That time I went to the guild hall in Locke and found all of the bunnies snuggled up together, Lyvia's bathtime routine, Ilica's on there twice, once for when she let me scratch her ears that one time, and again for the first time she met Munchkin... oh, and you're on there too"

"I-I am?" He asks.

"Yeah. From when I found you and Pip sleeping in the cargo hold on the trip to Locke" You say.

"Ohhhhhh" He says. "Yeah, I could see that"

"Nothing for Lily?" Fran asks.

"She's on there" You say. "From the first time they did the tail-wrapping thing"

"Ahh, I remember that" Fran says.

You smile and stroke Lily's hair. "Yeah, she's on there a couple other times too" You say. "Should we get these two to bed? They must be exhausted from the trip"

"Sure. You two want to handle that? There's something I want to talk to Derrick about" Fran says.

"Oh, me? Uhh... sure" Cheska says.

You and Cheska take the kids and head out, locating a maid who tells you where their room is. Along the way you run into Lola, Belladonna, and Lianna.

"Good evening, sir" Lola says. "These... aren't more orphans, are they?"

"Nah. These two have parents. Their mom's here with the scholars" You say. "Their mom also being Cheska's sister"

Lianna's head perks up. "Cheska is here?" She asks.

"Yep. I'm here" Cheska replies.

Lianna looks troubled by something. "You have changed since the last time I felt you" She says.

"You are cured?" Lianna asks.

Cheska nods, before realizing the futility of that action when speaking to a blind person. "Yes" She says.

"I had not thought it possible" Lianna says.

"It technically wasn't..." You say. "I kinda had to break time to make sure she didn't die. That's why I was out for so long"

"My goodness" Lianna says. "How do you feel?"

"Weaker, but better" Cheska says. "Like I'm having trouble lifting this child, but she's adorable and I'm not afraid I might try to kill her so it all balances out"

"You sure you don't want a hand?" You ask.

"I'm good. I took the smaller one for a reason" Cheska says.

"So you're not a demon anymore?" Lola asks. "That's... good? Did you want to be human again?"

"Of course I did" Cheska says.

"Then that's wonderful!" Lola says, as she glides over to give Cheska and Daisy a big hug. "C'mere"

"I almost died there" Cheska says, as you head away from the maids and the priestess.

"You did not" You reply.

"I did so! She almost suffocated me" Cheska says. "How in the hell do girls even get that... big... in the... y'know... chest"

"They are prety big, aren't they?" You say. "Maybe you should ask her"

"Alright buddy, wipe the drool off your chin" She says.

You bring a hand up to your face, but feel nothing.

"I didn't mean literally..." She says. "That's like the fiftieth time I've caught you ogling someone"

"I was not ogling" You say, as you arrive at the devil's room. "And besides, it's not about the chest. It's about what's underneath"

"I bet it is" She replies.

"You've got a big heart, Cheska" You say. "That matters"

"I just got it back. We'll have to see how big it actually is..." She says.

"Well yeah... my eyes are always moving, but my focus stays where it needs to be" You say, as you pull the blankets on the bed back and gently lay Lily down.

"So you don't notice that they tend to stick on... certain things" She says.

"Do they really?" You ask.

"They do" She replies.

"Huh... maybe I'll have to work on that. I didn't even realize" You say. "What do I tend to look at?"

"Boobs... tails... butts" She says. "The usual guy stuff"

"Is there anyone I tend to look at in particular?" You ask.

Hella puts Daisy down in the bed, stroking her hair and smiling as she does. "I dunno... Hella, kind of. That Lola girl... Pip, a few times"

With the devils in bed, you pull the covers up and tuck them in nice and snug.

"You never do it when they're looking, and it's weird because now that you mention it I can see that you're always focused on what you're doing" She says.

"So you've never caught me looking at you?" You ask.

"Well, no. Like I said, you only do it when they're not looking" She says. "Not that I have anything to stare at..."

"Don't put yourself down. You've got plenty of cute qualities" You say.

It takes everything you have to not start laughing.

"What?" Cheska asks.

"Sorry... I just think your priorities are a little unbalanced" You say, doing your best Cheska impression. "Alright, heart's back! What do I want now... I know! I wanna have a bigger chest"

"That is not what I'm saying" She says. "It's just... having such a small figure, I've never really gotten to experience some things..."

"And I'm sure girls like Hella and Lola would want to know what it's like to not have back aches all the time" You say, giving Cheska's hair a ruffle. "And I, for one, like you just how you are"

She looks like she's really trying to stay mad, but failing.

The two of you give each of the Devils a little peck, and you decide to leave Coral with them for the night in case they need anything.

"Maybe that could be your next goal" You say, shutting off the main light, leaving a small nightlight on for the kid's sake. "You could devote your time to researching a way to get bigger boobs"

"Yeah that won't be a huge waste of time" She says.

"I'm serious. You could make a killing off that technique" You say. "How much would you pay for that sort of thi- ah!"

Cheska pinches your side with her tail, then chases you down the hall. You slow down and let her catch you just before reaching her old room, and she hops up on your back.

"Just like old times, eh?" You ask.

"See? How could I ride you like this if I had big boobs?" She asks.

"You could probably still do it. Heck, I might even enjoy- ow! Ow! Ooooooww!" You say, as Cheska pinches you several more times. "Ow! I get it, I'm sorry"

Cheska's squealing turns to giggling, and she clings on as you run. Maids step aside and smile as you pass, and eventually you end up in the back yard.

You suddenly start to feel an upwelling of happiness, and without thinking you reach back and toss Cheska into the air, catching her under the arms and swinging her around before pulling her into a hug.

"W-wow... what's gotten into you?" She asks.

"I said that when I was still being really cool about it for some reason" You say.

"But if you say you want to wait... it's up to you" You say.

"Alright" She says. "Can we go back inside now?"

"Just one more thing" You say.

"What's that?" She asks.

You smile at her and toss her up into the air, catch her, then put her back on the ground.

"Okay. I'm good" You say.

"You're really excited about this" She says.

"Of course I am" You say. "I poured over every book about demons I could get my hands on, I asked everyone who I thought might know anything, and I thought for a long time about how we could make you human again and now it's actually happened"

"You... put a lot more work into it than I did..." She says.

"Of course" You say. "You're my friend, and you were unhappy. I wanted to fix that"

"But to put in that much time..." She says.

"Don't worry about it. Now, let's head ba-" You turn to start walking back inside, then promptly fall over.

"Hey! Is something wrong?" Cheska asks.

"I am very tired" You reply, as you lift yourself up. Cheska gives you what help she can.

"You're not gonna go down for another 5 days are you?" She asks.

"No I think it'll just be the usual 8 hours this time" You say.

Ask one of the maids to let Mom know we want to talk to her when we wake up.
Also, to have some food ready, we're probably going to be hungry again after.

"Come on" You say.

You head back up to your room, stopping to let a maid know that you want a message sent off to your mom telling her you want to talk to her tomorrow. You also stop and tell Fran that you're going to bed.

Cheska is still with you when you reach your room.

"Alright, you seem to have this covered" She says. "I'll just..."

"W-wanna join me?" You ask. "It's been a while since I had someone to snuggle with..."

Cheska thinks for a moment, and smiles. "Lemme get my PJ's" She says, as she heads out of the room.

You decide that pajamas are a good idea, and get changed yourself. Then you decide to lay down for a bit while you wait.

...

You awaken later, feeling pretty spectacular.

Looking around at your surroundings, you see that Cheska is curled up next to you. Then you notice that you're in a rather odd position, laying sideways across the bed instead of lengthwise like you usually do.

Then you see that you're not actually covered by the blanket. You're laying on top of it. Cheska appears to have pulled up what she could from the side she's on to cover herself. It's not much...

The sun hasn't quite risen yet, so you decide that you can sleep in a little... but first you actually want to get some blanket.

You slide out from underneath the sleeping devil without disturbing her, and then start figuring out how to go about this. First you try to pull the blankets back so you can get Cheska under them, but when you try to reposition her she clings onto the blanket she has, making your efforts futile.

Then you try moving the blanket so you can pull both it and her over you to solve the problem, but when you try to get that done you almost wake her...

"Dangit..." You whisper. "You're not making this easy, you know"

In the end you just give up, grabbing another blanket from the closet and rolling her up in the one she's got. You leave the top half of her torso out of the devil-burrito though, both so she can still use her arms and because you're not sure how sturdy her wings are.

With that settled you lay back down and pull her into you. She responds immediately, slipping her arms around you and pressing her head into your chest.

"Difficult... but worth it" You say, as you settle in.

You spend the next hour or so enjoying the warmth and stroking Cheska's new wings. They're actually kind of cute, looking similar to dragon's wings... the only difference being the covering. Dragon wings are covered with scales, which can be rough sometimes. Cheska's wings are made up of more of her soft skin.

Her wing starts to twitch, and eventually Cheska's eyes open.

"Good morning" You say.

"Gumner..." Cheska replies, taking a slow look around the room before hugging you tighter and pressing her face into your chest again.

"Sleep well?" You ask.

She nods, and you chuckle.

"Your wings are adorable, by the way" You say, as you continue to run your hands along them.

"Thanks" She says, as she rubs her eyes and yawns. "Maybe I'll keep 'em this size. They're more like little fashion accessories this way"

"Didn't you want to fly?" You ask.

"If I can" She says. "I'll go and see Monique later. Find out how big these'll get"

"Maybe I can convince Altea or Lyvia to give you some flying lessons" You say.

"Nnnno thanks... I'm sure they'd love to, but I think I'll bug somebody less important" She says. "Plenty of flyin' ladies in the joint army. I'm sure you could convince one to show me"

"I definitely could" You say, rolling onto your back. Cheska moves with you, leaving an arm draped over your chest as she rests her head on your shoulder. "Say, how did we end up in such an odd spot? When i woke up I was over there, and you were clinging onto a tiny bit of blanket..."

"You wouldn't wake up" She says. "I shook you, I yelled, I even did a few things you'd get embarrassed by just to see if you were fakin' it.... in the end I just kinda took what I could get"

"Why not just go back to your own bed?" You ask.

"Didn't wanna" She says.

"Works for me, why don't we go get brea-"

"-wait, what kind of embarrassing things?" You ask.

"Oh, you know" She says.

"I don't" You reply.

Cheska smiles and runs a finger across your bare chest. You didn't notice it before, but your pajama shirt is open...

"Well, I just got in reeeeeaaal close" She says, hovering her face just above your chest. "And.."

She blows a big raspberry on you, causing both of you to start laughing.

"And I didn't wake up for that?" You ask.

"No! I was floored. I thought for sure that it would work" She says. "So I just kinda found a spot, covered myself, and went to sleep"

"Sleep well?" You ask.

"Very" She says. "And you make a nice sight to wake up to. I could do this every morning"

"What... blowing a raspberry on my chest?" You ask.

"If you want me to" She replies.

"I don't think I do..." You say, before patting her on the side. "Come on. Let's grab some breakfast. I'm starving"

"Works for me" She says.

You lever yourself up and help her unroll herself from the blanket. She then heads off to her room to get dressed.

A few seconds after she leaves, you go to shut the door. But Fran pokes her head in.

"Oh, Yuu. You're awake" She says. "I just saw Cheska leaving... did you two..."

You tilt your head.

"I'll take that as a no..." Fran says. "You know, usually when a woman leaves a man's room after spending the night, they weren't just cuddling"

"What do they usually do?" You ask.

"Have sex" Fran says.

"Oh, jeez no. I just wanted to hug her really badly, and I thought she could use the warmth now that she's human again" You say.

Fran sighs. "You and I are going to have to talk later" She says. "Until then, get dressed and try to think about the way people see things"

"What do you mean?" You ask.

"For one thing, you're a lord now. People will talk about you. What do you think they'll sayabout women leaving your bedroom in the early hours?" She asks.

"Ah..." You say.

"And another thing, think of her" Fran says. "Don't... don't lead her on, okay?"

"What does that mean?" You ask.

Fran is about to answer as Cheska shows up, now dressed.

"What are you guys talking about?" Cheska asks.

"Nothing. Good morning" Fran says, giving Cheska a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "We'll go on ahead. You get dressed, okay?"

"Kay" You reply.

You shut your door and set about finding some clothes. You feel like things are getting more complicated than they were before. You're not sure how much you like that...

Thanks boss, this thread has been great

How will yuu ever recover when he learns what a lady-killer reputation means
>>
Actually I do want to know one thing.

Were we ever really at risk of not having the option to save Cheska and when/what locked us in on being able to cure her?
>>
>>2505530
Once you guys showed enough interest in her well-being it was basically locked in. The final choice was supposed to have a bit more weight to it, with enough riding on a "Don't save her" vote to make it a difficult one. So I kinda dropped the ball there
>>
Great thread smiley, so Yuu if finally going to revive The Talk, that should be interesting
>>
Smiley Cheska was a devil, why do you keep saying she is human again?
