"I wasn't expecting you to show up here, Commander" Marybell say.
Altea flips her hair over her shoulder. "Well, Yuu said that I had a fan, so I figured I'd come and meet her" She says.
"Was it worth it?" You ask.
"For the look on that girl's face when I landed? Absolutely" Altea says. "Why, I haven't gotten that sort of reaction since I went to recruit Marybell"

Marybell straightens up and blushes. Altea takes notice and smiles.

"But that's a subject for another time" Altea says, as she spreads her wings. "You all have preparations to make, and I believe your break is almost up Marybell"
"See you later" You say.

Altea nods. "I expect to see you before you depart" She says.
"We'll come by" Derrick says.
"Very well" She says, as she beats her wings and rises up in the air. She continues upward until she's reached a certain height, then glides off towards the barracks.

"Having wings must be super convenient" You say.
"You mention that every time you see her fly away" Derrick says.
"Because it always looks really convenient" You say. "Even now, when I have a super fast cart... I still have to go around all these dumbs buildings..."

Cheska pats your back. "There, there. Who knows? Maybe the guild's got some kinda personal skyship they'll lend you next" She says.
"That doesn't exist" Derrick says. "Don't get his hopes up"

"Dang..." You say. "That sounded kinda cool..."
"Aanyways" Madelaine says. "We've got some time to kill. What do you guys wanna do?"

"I'm feeling kinda restless" You say. "Why don't we find somewhere to spar?"
"There's a big building here, if you head north a ways" Marybell says. "Used to be an arena. Now it's not used for anything. You guys could use that"

"Nobody squatting in it?" Derrick asks.
"There might be..." Marybell says. "but I'm sure you guys would have no trouble booting them"
"Maybe, but I'd rather not boot someone out of their home just because we wanna brawl" Derricks says. "Even if they're not there legally"

"We could do it outside the south gate" Madelaine says. "I've seen the area before. Plenty of space, and no one will bother us there"
"The yard behind the now well-done Guild Hall looked like it'd have everything we'd need" Cheska says.
"Hella's backyard is pretty spacious as well, if you guys wanna head there" Derrick says. "It'll mean that our lunch is closer, at least"

"Lunch?" You ask.
"The leftovers from yesterday" Derrick says. "Hella left them in her preserver"

"Got it" Derrick says. "If the fire didn't hit their storage shed, we might even be able to find some practice swords"

"Cool" You say. "Should we ride ahead to the hall and check it out?"
"If you want" Derrick says.

"See you guys there then" You say, as you hop onto the Rook. "Coming, Cheska?"

Cheska looks pleased by your choice, which is weird because you thought she hated riding this thing...

"If it looks like the place is too busted up to use, send Coral back to let us know" Derrick says. "That way we won't get our hopes up"
"Alright, let's go!" You say, kicking the Rook into motion and speeding off down the street.

You slow down a bit as you round the first corner, figuring you'll keep a slower pace for the rest of the trip.

Cheska slips her tail up under your shirt as soon as you're out of view of the others, and suddenly you understand why she was giving you that look...

"Wh-what are you doing?" You ask.
"Wasn't this why you decided to take the Rook, so you could be alone with little ol' me?" She asks.
"Not really..." You say. "I kinda wanted to check the place out. Plus this is easier than walking"

"Are you suuuure?" She asks, her tail still exploring your chest.
"Positive" You say.
She giggles in your ear. "Just remember, you can always say stop" She says.

"Or I can do this..." You say, accelerating the Rook with a kick, before slowing back down.

Cheska clutches your chest for dear life, only relaxing once you've slowed back to your normal speed.

"Point taken" She says.
"Just figured I'd remind you who the boss is around here" You say.
"Fine, I'll stop..." She says.
"I never said stop" You say.

"Oh...?" She asks. "Being assertive now, are we?"
"Maybe a little" You say.
"Hmm... I think I like this side of you..." She says, moving her tail back and forth across your chest in 'brush-like' motions.

"This isn't so bad" You say. "It kinda tickles, actually. Just remember, no pinching"
"Not even a liiiiittle pinch?" She asks.
"No" You reply
"Fine" She says.

You keep a steady pace all the way to the guild hall, letting Cheska playfully tickle your chest with her tail.

When you arrive, she's settled it onto the spot over your heart.

"What's up?" You ask.
"I'm feeling your pulse" She says.
"I didn't think I had a pulse" You say.
"Even a demon has a pulse, it's just not like a normal one" She says. "Less like a beat, and more like an ebb and flow..."
"Neat... you can feel that?" You say.
"Only when you're not talking. The vibrations coming from your voice drown out anything coming from your heart..." She says.

"Is it that faint?" You ask.
"Well, yeah. If it weren't you'd just be able to feel it normally" She says.
"Is yours like that too?" You ask.
"Every demons is" She says. "The flow of your blood is always uneven, in time with your breathing most of the time. So when you breathe in, it increases, and when you breathe out, it decreases"

"Neat" You say. "What about if I hold my breath?"
"I dunno what happens, but wait 'till we're off the Rook before you try that. Kay?" She asks.
"Kay" You reply. "Which is good, because we're here"

You bring the Rook to a stop, and hop off. Cheska hops off as well, wrapping her tail around your leg as the two of you head in.

"Wow... there's nothing left" She says.
"Well, fire'll do that" You reply. "I wonder if that centipede is still around..."
"Don't go looking for it, please" She says. "Come on, the path to the back looks pretty clear"

The two of you carefully pick your way through the burned out guild hall to the back entrance.

"I still say it's better off this way" Cheska says.
"I never said it wasn't" You reply, as you reach the training yard behind the hall. "Now, Derrick said there was a storage shed..."

"There" Cheska says, pointing to a trapdoor. "They keep it underground, so the training yard stays nice and empty"
"Neat... but how did you know that?" You ask.
"I may have uhh... looted a few of these, back in Antolia" She says.

"Ah..." You reply. "Think it's locked?"

"Hang on, I'm gonna try something" You say, as you pull out your mageblade and turn it on.

Cheska takes a step back. "Oh, this should be good..." She says.

You grab the lock on the trapdoor and manipulate your blade until it'll fit inside, then you stick it in. You kiggle it around a little, and try to turn it. But it just... won't... budge-

*SNAP*

...

"You just broke it didn't you" She says.

You stand back up, looking between Cheska and the lock, unsure of how you want to respond to that...

So you don't respond, instead raising your hand and firing a series of Soul Bolts into the wooden door. After a few shots, the wooden door breaks open.

"Hey look! It worked, the door's open!" You say.
"Nice! Shame we couldn't get the lock..." She says.
"Door's. Open" You reply.

Cheska walks past you towards the steps leading down, brushing your chin with her tail as she goes. "And you did a marvelous job" She says. "Now, let's see what we're workin' with down here"

>1/2
>>
>>1200874
You know, that method should really pay off if we put some actual effort and training towards it. We'd need to talk to a locksmith for best results, I bet.
>>
It's dark down here, but you manage to see just fine. Cheska however, demands some light. You stop her before she can use her magic to do it...

"Remember what happened last time? We don't know if that machine survived the blaze" You say.
"Oh yeah..." She says. "Well... you're my eyes then. What do we have?"

"Practice weapons... pretty much everything you could hope for" You say. "Lots of swords, a few spears, some bows and blunted arrows..."
"Anything that isn't a practice weapon?" She asks.
"There's a door" You say.
"Locked?" She asks.

You walk up to the door and try the knob. "Yeah" You say.
"I guess the keys won't be nearby..." She says. "If they're here at all... can we break it down?"
"Do we have to? We got what we came hee for" You say.
"You're not curious what's behind there?" She asks. "It could be that personal airship~"

You look back at the door.

"I'm gonna try this again..." You say.
"Again?" She asks. "Think you could save us some time by just breaking the door down?"
"I can do it" You say. "Just stand back and watch"

"Can't see much in this light, but okay" She says.

You lean down and look inside the lock. It doesn't look like much to you, but you kinda think you can see how it works.

So you activate your mageblade again, resize it, and stick it in. You saw some weird things in there. You think maybe you have to get the blade to touch them all to open this thing...

So you reshape it a bit, and try turning it...

Still won't budge. Maybe if you just pushed a liiiittle more, aaaand-

*SNAP*
*CLICK*

"Ahh... nicely done" She says. "I guess learning to break them in a way that opens them is like learning how to pick them open"
"It's close enough" You reply, as you pull the lock free and open the door...

You and Cheska both step inside.

"Kay, still can't see. What are we lookin' at?" She asks.
"Looks like the armory back in Sherton" You say. "Complete with a Mastery Stone"
"Neat. Never got a chance to try one of those out..." She says.

"Why not now?" You ask. "It'd give you a way to fight that doesn't involve fire. Plus I don't think the guild would mind if you snagged a weapon from here"

"Think so?" She asks. "I'll need some light..."
"This work?" Derrick says, as he enters the room with a torch.

"Yeah, thanks" You say, as you grab the torch off him.
"Not at all surprised by my arrival?" He asks.
You shrug. "I figured you'd show eventually" You say.
Derrick chuckles. "Still... didn't think they had one of these sitting down here" He says. "I wonder how it got there"
"Maybe we should ask someone from the guild" You say.

"Alright. I'll try to save some strength so I can whoop your ass when you're done down here" He says with a wry grin.
"I look forward to it" You reply.

You and Derrick bump fists, and he heads back out.

"Now, let's see what we're working with here..." You say, as you turn your attention back to the room.

Cheska's already got a weapon in her hand. A small, single edged sword. She stabs the stone with it, to no effect.

"Dang..." She says.
"Were you hoping that would work?" You ask.

"A whip... seriously?" She asks.
"It worked for Daisy" You say.
"Daisy's been to one of these?" She asks.
"Yeah. We stopped at the one in Sherton so I could use it" You say. "I got my weapon pretty quick, but then Ilica, Lily, and Daisy wouldn't let us leave until we found theirs..."

"How'd you find yours so fast?" She asks, as she takes the whip.
"I already had a mageblade on me" You say. "I tried my fists, then I tried Carthac's spear, then I tried the mageblade"

"Ohhhh. Okay" She says. "So it was after our attack"
"Yeah" You say.
"Now it makes sense" She says. "Alright, let's give this a go..."

Cheska cracks the whip at the stone, but it doesn't make a mark.

"Huh... that's disappointing" You say.
"Hmm? Hoping I'd get such a... suggestive weapon?" She asks.
"How is it suggestive?" You ask.

She smiles and touches the whip's handle to her chin. "Perhaps I'll keep this one so I can show you later..." She says.
"Uhh... sure. Why not" You ask, as you pull a trident off the rack. "Try this one next"

"Lily got that one" You say. "I figured those 2 were worth a shot"
"Hm. Maybe it's a red devil thing" She says.

"Do you like it?" You ask.
"I could get used to it" She says. "Could be good. Looks like it's a good one for pokin' people's butts"

"I won't... if you behave" She says.

"That's can't you just not ma'am[i/], to you!" She says, poking you lightly in side a few times. "Now march! I wanna try this thing out!"

"Oh?" You ask, smiling as you activate your mageblade. "Remember what I said about who's the boss here?"

Cheska smiles as well, putting a finger on her lower lip. "Let's find out, shall we?"
"Whether you remember, or who the boss is?" You ask.
Cheska sighs. "Who the boss is..." She says.
"Okay, just clarifyi-"

Cheska cuts you off with a sudden thrust. The upside here is that it's relatively easy to block a thrust from a trident. Unfortunately it's tricky to disengage your sword afterwards.

So you don't bother, controlling her thrust and sending it over your head, where you grab the trident with your free hand and give it a yank.
Cheska loses her balance and stumbles towards you. She seems to regain her footing, and you expect her to pull back. But instead she abandons the trident and tackles you to the ground.

You're knocked clean off your feet, and she giggles triumphantly as she straddles your waist.

"Looks like I'm the boss now~" She says.
You raise an eyebrow, and then put your mageblade up to her throat.

"Shit" She says.

You wouldn't actually stab her. So instead you use the distraction to reverse your positions, knocking her off and pinning her under you.

"Who's the boss?" You ask.
"... you..." She mumbles.
"I'm sorry?" You ask.
"It's you! Dang it, I thought I had you there..." She says.

You smile.

"Hey guys, are you about done down here? Emi keeps kicking our asse-" Madelaine says, as she steps into the doorway.

The three of you freeze for a moment, and then Madelaine leaves.

"Nevermind guys, looks like these 2 could use some privacy!" Madelaine says.
"Hey! Wait!" You call out as you go after her.

>1/2
>>
"Sorry, couldn't resist" Madelaine says. "I doubt they heard that anyway"

You sigh. "What did you say about Emi?" You ask.
"She's kicking our asses" Madelaine says.
"Really?" You ask. "We're talking about the same Emi, right?"
"Yes. The same Emi that downed Marybell in under 5 seconds, and casts the quickest ice spells I've ever seen" Madelaine says.

"Emi is kicking your ass" You say.
"Yes" She says.
"Serpid Emi" You say. "The one that knows healing magic"
"If you doubt it so much, come up and look" She says.

You blink a few times, and then shake it off.

"Cheska, grab one of the practice spears and come up. I've gotta see this" You say.
"Kaaayy" Cheska says.

You head up above ground with Madelaine, and catch the middle of a fight between Derrick and Emi.

Emi seems to be wielding a staff of some sort. It's very long and pretty sturdy looking.

Automatically she has the advantage of reach on Derrick, who only has a standard practice sword.

You'd think that a swordsman as good as Derrick could work around that, but Emi seems to know how to use that staff... She doesn't let him get within her reach, and when he makes a push Emi either quickly slithers back, or strikes with her tail, depending on what she's in the better position for.

After watching for a minute or so, Derrick backs off. Probably to catch his breath and re-evaluate.

But Emi doesn't let him. She wraps the end of her tail around the staff and lashes out with it, easily covering the distance Derrick gained and smacking him dead in the side.

Derrick goes down, clutching his side. Emi gasps and rushes over to him.

You start clapping. "Nicely done" You say.

Derrick chuckles. "I agree... as much as it pains me to admit it" He says.
Emi smiles, as she applies some healing magic to Derrick's side. "Thanks... does that feel better?" She asks.
"Much, thank you" He says. "Only opponent I've faced who will patch up your wounds after she absolutely demoralizes you..."

"I didn't mean to hit you that hard..." She says. "That's just how hard that attack hits..."
"Feels like I got nailed by a runaway cart" Derrick says. "Where do you keep all that strength?"

"It's mostly in my tail" She says.
"I'll say" Derrick says.
"Up for another round?" Emi asks.
"Nope. I think I've learned my lesson" Derrick says. "But it looks like Yuu's up for some punishment, if you're looking for an oppoent"

"Is he?" Emi asks.
"Absolutely" You say.

Emi nods, and takes her hands away from Derrick's side. "All better?" She asks.
"Yeah" He says, as he stands up. "I'll just get out of your way"

Emi slithers back over to where she dropped her staff, picks it up, and stakes up her fighting stance. It's a little different than what you're used to. Mostly because you're used to fighting people with legs...

But still. This is good practice. Somewhere down the line you'll probably end up facing someone like a Serpid, better to practice with Emi than to get killed by whoever it'll be in the future.

"Ready?" Emi asks.

You smile and take up your own stance, making sure your blade is blunt before nodding. "Ready"

The Glutton, probably.

I had this image of him in my head where he was a handsome, well dressed, well spoken gentleman who was always eating something.
No matter the situation you met him in, he always had some kind of food, whether it was something small like a candy, or a full 9 course meal. And he would never share.

Still thinking of possibly running a sequel to Blood Moon, but it wouldn't happen anytime soon.

>>
>>1201842
The ending kinda drained most of my motivation to run Blood Moon, and the first chapter of the refrain basically sapped the rest. The whole thread felt kinda aimless, which was at least partially my fault.
But when I expected them to just spill the beans and let Saif's friends know what was going on, they made the exact same mistake that made things go so bad in the first place (keeping it a secret when he knew he could trust them).

But like I said, I may still run it. But probably not as a proper quest, at least not anytime soon.
What I may do is tack a pastebin link to a Blood Moon post, along with a vote for said post, onto the ends of these threads or something. So it's still interactive, just not as demanding as running 2 quests at once...

Because I tried that, and it didn't work.

>>1201826
What he said. It was often compared to Fate/Stay Night, but replace the servants with powerful artifacts.
Fate/Stay Not, if you will.

Ah, thank you for letting me know. Also, nice pun.

On that note, what is your ruling on having the protag of the quest be punny?
>>

Expect more.

I've also reverted the App info pastebin to it's original state. I never realized that I had a massive spoiler sitting there for those going back and reading Blood Moon

Rolled 53 (1d100)

You and Emi circle each other, waiting for your moment to strike.

Well, she's waiting. You're trying to figure out the logistics of fighting a Serpid.

Your biggest issue is the tail. Keeping track of it will be difficult, especially given what you've seen her do with the staff. With both ends of the staff to keep track of, plus her tail... this should be interesting.

But you can't stand here thinking about it all day, otherwise Emi might get bored and leave.

...

If that happened, would you win by default?
Probably not...

...

Alright, enough waiting. Time to get this going.

You stop circling and surge forward, checking Emi's defenses with a pair of quick thrusts, one high and one low.
Both blocked, with the top and bottom of the staff respectively.

Emi then twirls her staff defensively, switching her grip so she can swipe your side.
You block, and try to curve your mageblade to wrap around the staff. Emi sees this and quickly pulls back, but you push into the gap and keep her on her toes.

...

Uhh... tail.

You go in for 3 quick slashes. She handily parries the first 2, but she obviously struggles with the third.
It doesn't look like a feint, so you push in further.

Unfortunately, you failed to keep an eye on her tail. It suddenly darts in from behind her, forcing you to roll away.

At this distance Emi has an unquestionable advantage... for the next ten seconds.

You quickly extend your blade to remove the range advantage, parry her next attack, and lunge.

"Ow!" Emi says, as your thrust hits her square in the chest.

You let out a breath. "That was tough" You say.
"I thought I had you there..." She says.
"You forgot that I'm not using a regular practice sword" You say. "Don't sweat it. Derrick's made that same mistake a few times"

"It takes some getting used to. Trust me" Derrick says.

"Go again?" You ask.
"Sure" Emi says. "Just give me a minute to recover..."

"That was a well done extension, by the way" Derrick says. "I didn't think you could do it that quickly"
"The new mageblade helps, and I got some practice when I was messing around with Vivi" You say.

"The new mageblade helps that much?" Derrick asks.
"Yeah. It's been like night and day compared to my old one" You say. "Almost makes me glad that I lost it..."
"Wow..." Derrick says.

"What?" You ask.
"It's weird hearing that" He says. "All that time you were working with a handicap, and still managed to do the things you did"
"It wasn't that impressive" You say.
"You did some pretty cool things with that old blade" Derrick says. "I'm looking forward to what you do with this one"
"Well, there was the cyclone of slaying" You say.
"There was that, yeah" Derrick says.

"Where'd Cheska run off to, anyway?" You ask.
"She's over there, getting her butt ki-... getting pointers from Madelaine" Derrick says.

You turn to see that Cheska is indeed getting her butt kicked...

"I told you a dozen times to mind your fottwork!" Madelaine says.
"I am!" Cheska says.
"No you're not! You'd never have fallen over if- don't you dare light that spear on fire!" Madelaine says. "We've already lost 3 damn practice spears like that!"

...

"You good to continue?" You ask Emi
"Y-yeah" Emi says.

You both take up your positions and stances, but this time there's no circling or waiting. Emi strikes almost immediately.

She comes in fast, thrusting with the full length of her staff to ensure she keeps her distance. You doubt that your lengthening trick will work twice, so you don't even bother with it.
Instead, you twirl out of the way, spinning in and slashing towards her chest.

Emi twists her staff, sweeping your blade over her head and bringing the other end around to try and strike you.

You roll back and out of the way, then dart back in with a thrust.
Emi parries again, and attempts to strike you with her tail.

But then you see it.

You move ever so slightly to the side to avoid the tail, continuing your charge without slowing. You tie up her staff with your blade, and then headbutt her in the stomach.

"OOF-" Emi says, as you knock the wind out of her.
"Sorry" You say. "That counts right?"
"If Emi's tail does, I guess your head should too..." Derrick says. "But your eyes are glowing"
"So?" You ask.
"Lulu told me about this" Derrick says. "If your eyes are glowing, it doesn't count"

"It absolutely does" You say. "Even if it didn't, I learned something"
"You did?" Emi asks.
You nod. "You can't move and strike with your tail at the same time" You say. "It's a bit like kicking and walking at the same time"

"Either way, Lulu says to wait until your eyes stop, if you want to have a fair fight" Derrick says.
"Fiiiine" You reply.

"Where'd you learn to fight like that?" You ask. "I knew you were good with your tail, but I think you only ever mentioned the staff like... once"
"My Grandmother taught me" Emi says.

"Oh? She must have been quite the teacher" Derrick says.
"She... was..." Emi says.

Derrick clues in to what she means. "Ah, sorry..." Derricks says.
"It's not a problem. I just miss her sometimes" Emi says.
"I know the feeling..." Derrick replies.

...

Suddenly this area got a little moody... You think you'll go check in on Cheska.

You turn to see Cheska lying flat on her back, with a burning practice spear laying next to her. Madelaine looks thoroughly annoyed...

"That's 5 spears now" Madelaine says. "If you keep this up we're going to run out"
"It was faulty" Cheska says.

"Y-you're not actually going to whip me, are you?" She asks.
"Only if I have to" You say. "Now get up, and grab another spear. And don't burn it this time, otherwise I am grabbing the whip"

Cheska snaps to, rushing down the stairs and coming back up a few seconds later with another practice spear.

"Alright, now... come at me with all you've got" You say.

Cheska nods, charges, and five seconds later she's flat on her back.

"See? Dang things are faulty..." She says.
"It's not the spear" You say. "You're putting too much into it. You should only go all-in when you either know you can win, or when you have no other choice"

You help Cheska get back up. "Thanks" She says.

"Now, try again" You say. "But instead of charging, get in range and make quick, short thrusts. Your trident is sharp, so you don't need every ounce of your strength to get a good hit"
"Alright..." She says, getting her position again.

Cheska comes in, and tries to make a few quick thrusts... but she's too slow, and even a little clumsy...

"Faster" You say. "Try moving your weight from leg to leg, forward on the thrust, back when you pull away"
"Like this?" She asks.
"Better" You say. "Now try changing your angle each time. Keep trying to hit the same spot andany decent opponent will have you down in seconds"
"Like you did?" She asks.

"Precisely" You say.

You keep working with Cheska, going head to head every little while, and spending the rest of the time trying to fix the mistakes you can see her making.

Emi eventually comes over and shows her some staff fighting tricks that could work for her.

After a few hours of this, you still couldn't call Cheska a master, but her skills are definitely serviceable.

"It's good to have something for close-quarters" Derrick says. "Trust me, fire doesn't always work"

"Oh, come on. Everybody needs a hand every now and then" She says.

"Alright you two" Derrick says. "Coming?"
"Yeah" You say, as you clip your mageblade back onto your belt. "Are you gonna bring that?"
"This? Nah" Cheska says, as she picks up the trident tosses it into the trapdoor. "I'm just as liable to stab mysef with it at this point"

"That was a nice toss though" Derrick says. "Maybe you're not meant to wield it like a spear..."

"I couldn't help it! Her hair was so soft..." You say.
"I know what you mean" Paula says.

"Alright then. I promise I won't bother her" You say.
"Cool. I'll go fetch her" Paula says. "Hold down the fort, Georg"
"Alright" Georg says.

Paula walks off, leaving you and Cheska with Georg.

"So... an Ex-Legionnaire huh?" Georg says, sounding kinda suspicious. "I didn't think they let people out of the Legion"
"They don't" Cheska says. "Didn't leave by choice, either..."

"You got booted?" Georg asks.
"Well I wasn't very well liked among my group" She says. "After our failred attempt to attack Locke, one of the other demons sliced my hamstring so I'd get caught"

Georg grimaces. "So you ended up in the dungeon, with the baby-eater" He says.
"Yup. Guz was too fat to run away, so he got tossed in with me" She says. "Which became the bane of my existence down there. Motherfucker never stopped snoring"

Georg doesn't look very sympathetic.

"Aaanyway. I was locked in the dungeon nursing my injured leg, when Yuu came down to visit~" She says.
"Well, I didn't go down to visit" You say. "I went down to put Carthac's spear into the vaults"

"Doesn't matter why you were there, because that's when my fortunes turned..." She says.

Cheska continues her tale, going through the assassination attempt, being moved to another cell, and her eventual deal with Altea for her conditional release.

"I figured that if they wanted me dead anyways, I might as well do something that might make me worth killing" She says. "So I spilled. Gave 'em all I knew about the Legion, its positions, current events in Antolia. Everything"

"And now you two are friends?" Georg asks.

You and Cheska exchange a glance.

"She's my undering" You say with a smile, as you ruffle Cheska's hair.
"We talked about this" She says.
"I know, I'm kidding" You say. "We're friends, yeah. In fat, we're almost family"

Georg looks taken aback.

"N-not like that!" Cheska says. "There're these two kids, Yuu treats them like sisters. They're actually my nieces"
"Ahh, that's what you meant" Georg says.
"Of course. What did you think I meant?" You ask.

"Well, I-"
"I'll tell you later" Cheska says.

You tilt your head. "O...kay" You reply.

"There you are, Yuu" Derrick calls out.
"Ah! They're here" You say.
"Who are they?" Georg asks.

"Oh, this is Derrick, Madelaine and Emi" You say. "They're part of the team"

>1/2
>>
"So this is who you were considering for our team's mage" Georg says.
You nod. "Emi's very good at what she does" You say.
"Ah, well that's a shame" Georg says. "March order came pretty suddenly. I figured the tournament would take place before that"

"Maybe next time" You say.
"Yeah" Georg says. "I reckon the Commander'll host one at the end of all this, so keep your strength up"

"Is this the only person you found?" Derrick asks.
"No, Paula went off to find Flit" You say.
"Well, not find" Georg says. "Flit was with us"
"So why didn't she just come out?" Derrick asks.
"She's shy" You say.

"Ah..." Derrick says. "So Georg, what do you do?"
"Well I've got a big axe, and I swing it" He says. "Beyond that, I know a few lightning spells... but of the 3 of us, Paula is the better mage"
"Not Flit?" You ask.
"Nope" Georg says. "Flit can't do offensive magic very vell. She makes her own arrows, sure. And she makes a mean tangle if somebody gets close. But in the end her answer to most things is to shoot it"

"Effective as any spell" Derrick says. "What element does Paula use?"
"Earth" Georg says. "In tourneys she's called a 'wall', but on the battlefield it's no name"
"Sounds like she'll get on well with Zaine" Madelaine says. "He likes to wall things off too"

Before you can say anything else, Paula comes back with Flit standing firmly behind her.

"We're in" Paula says.
"Well alright" Georg says.

"You guys rest up a bit" You say. "We'll be meeting at the south gate in around 2 hours"
"How are we getting to the Stronghold?" Georg asks.

"By cart" You reply. "You guys will be riding in Derrick and Meyu's carts, Cheska and I will be up ahead in the Rook"

"Beats marching" Paula says. "Come on, Georg. Let's find somewhere to rest our feet"
"Yeah. See you in 2 hours, kid" Georg says.

A hand reaches out from behind Paula and waves, before the 3 of them head off.

"Alright, that brings us up to 11" Derrick says. "A good number"
"Yeah" You reply. "I think they'll get along well enough with the other guys too"

"I hope so" Madelaine says.

"I'm hungry" You say.
"Back to Hella's then?" Derrick asks. "I could use some food too"
"Sounds good to me" Madelaine says.

The 4 of you head back off to Hella's. This time you walk with the Rook, instead of riding it.

"They seem nice" Derrick says.
"They were pretty nice" You say. "I haven't seen Georg or Paula use magic yet, so that should be interesting"

"I've heard electric magic is pretty useful, as far as offense goes" Derrick says. "Depending on how much energy you put into a spell, you can get a searing burst of lightning that burns through all it touches, or just a shock that stuns momentarily"

"You know many electromancers, Derrick?" Emi asks.
"My father is an electromancer" He says. "And my sister is one of the rare few dragons that don't take their mother's element"

"So she... breathes... lightning?" You ask.
"Something like that" He says.

"Hang on, you have a sister?" Cheska asks.

"I do-..." Derrick says, stopping before he can say anything else. "Uhh... should we tell her.. about this?"

"Up to you" You say. "In the end, it's your secret"
"What secret?" Cheska asks.

"I'm... the prince" Derrick says. "The king is my father"

...

"He's... He's fuckin' with me right?" Cheska asks.
"He's not" You say.

"Well I'll be" Cheska says. "Should I bow?"
"I'd rather you not..." Derrick says.
"So that makes you two cousins, yeah?" Cheska asks.
"Yep" You say.

Cheska suddenly realizes something. "I-... I guess you've got a prety big beef with te Legion, too" She says.
"I would like nothing more than to wipe them out before they can spread more bloodshed" Derrick says.

"You know I was in the fort... the one they kept your uhh... family in" She says.
"Ah..." Derrick says.
"They-"
"Don't" Derrick says. "I'd... rather not hear it"

Cheska nods. "Gotcha" She says.

...

"Fuck it, nevermind" Derrick says. "What is it?"
"Tough ladies, both of em" She says. "The Lubrian offensive came way late though. Your sister had already made 3 escape attempts by then, and Mahron ended up uhh... well... killing them..."

"Alicia was always tough..." Derrick says, as he wipes his eyes. "Ahh.. shit. You guys go on ahead. I'll catch up"

You put a hand on Derrick's shoulder. "We'll be close" You say.

He takes his hand away and gives a weak smile. "Thanks" He says.

You walk a short distance away with Emi, Madelaine and Cheska.

"Will he be alright?" You ask.
"He's strong" Emi says. "But everyone needs to be a little weak from time to time"

You nod.

"So you were there, huh?" You ask Cheska. "What were they like?"
"Never actually met them, but I was amost a victim in one of their escape attempts" She says. "They got out of the dungeon, and the daughter slew her way to the courtyard. They were about to take flight when Mahron caught both of them"

You stay silent, waiting for her to finish.

"That was it" Cheska says. "Remember when I told you that Mahron was terrifying? Well he snapped the Queen's neck right then and there. Then he broke the princess's wing so she'd have to fight. Even the fight didn't last long..."

"And then he kept sending pieces back, giving the king false hope" You say.
"Yep" Cheska says.
"Mahron has to die" You say.
"Think you'll fair better against him than the princess did?" Cheska asks.

"It's not a question of whether or not I can do it" You say. "It has to be done"
"So we'll do it" Derrick says, as he approaches the group again. "Together"
"Sounds good to me" You say, bumping fists with Derrick.

"You guys are nuts" She says.
You put an arm over Cheska's shoulder and pull her in close. "And you're one of us now" You say. "Come on, I'm still hungry"

That's all for tonight!

Next thread will probably be on monday.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time!

I also wanted to see if anyone would be interested in me putting a continuation of Blood Moon at the end of these threads. It'd probably just be a pastebin link to a new chapter, probably once a week, and each chapter would have a vote at the end with a link to a strawpoll.

Not as involved as a normal quest, but it'd let me finish Blood Moon for good.
>>
Fuck Mahron. He needs to die

Thanks for running Smiley
And I would be game for finishing BloodMoon like that
You should also post that on your twitter for anyone who was part of BloodMoon but doesn't follow Beyond the Gate

Also, when it comes to Blood Moon, if Saif could send a message to the other gods, at the outset, I'd really like him to kill Glutton.

Mostly because, after you described him, it's no wonder why he chose Harvey.

And we all know what happened to Harvey.
>>
>>1206596
That makes more sense, now that I think about it.

Could even have the posts go live at exactly midnight on Sunday. Just to be thematic.

>>1206630
I'll be tweaking the beginning of it a bit, so it won't start out the same way as the original Refrain.
>>
>>1206653
I mean, Saif's sword pretty much IS a shard of the Wellspring now, considering it's role in creating it.

If anything could kill a god, it'd be that.
>>
>>1206688
Meant to say "extension" of the Wellspring's power.
>>
>>1206688
No dice there. Glutton would still have to intentionally come into conflict with another god to be rendered killable.
>>
>>1206742
Ah, well. Still, hopefully he gets his in the end.

I hate Harvey Hart more than a lot of other villains in quests I've followed. Anyone who supports him needs to get shafted.

Kudos for making a villain so detestable!
