BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEE-

Fuck mornings.

You are Alfreda 'Alfie' Nicholls, captain of Cromwell State College's not-quite-dead Tankery team, and you hate 7:30 with a passion. You swing your legs over and stand up, enjoying that first early morning stretch. You feel pretty good actually, yesterday you got all five tanks repaired and in competition state!

...You still don't have any crews. Still, one thing at a time.
Your morning run is uneventful, and by eight o'clock you're showered, dressed, breakfasted, and ready to face the day!

What to do...

>Go out alone on a quest (Which, see pastebin).
>Gather your crew and embark on a quest (Which, see pastebin).
>Check your emails (2 unread emails).
>Hang out with your crew, you can afford to take a day.
>Do something else (What?)
>>
>>919313
Full disclosure, I'm playing Xenonauts between posts.
>>
>Check your emails (2 unread emails).

Always start simple.
>>
>>919313
>Check your emails (2 unread emails).

>Check your emails

You open up your laptop, finally on your little desk provided by the college, and check your emails. There's one from Belle, and one from... your sister. Huh. Well, Belle first.

>Shopping and upgrades from Belle Cooper
Hey Alfie,
So Alison handled all the upgrading and buying of the old team (which wasn't much, the roster didn't exactly change often), but since I figure you have no experience I've taken it upon myself. Every Monday I'll be sending you a list of possible tanks on the open market, and by Sunday I'll have a list of some upgrades for your tanks, as well as cost.
And no, I can't do discounts, I'm giving you these at cost as it is.
Anyway, most of the tanks will be British if I can find them to help ease repairs and maintenance, but if there's a particularly good deal I'll be sure to let you know!

Good luck, Belle.

Interesting. Now for Sam. Fully expecting either a meme or a prank, you open her email.

>You okay? From Samantha Nicholls
Heya sis,
I heard from some friends a bunch of rumours that the tankery team's gone to shit, and you're fighting to keep it open? I figure you'll need all the help you can get, so if you want I can fly out and be your team's instructor for a while.
Call me!

Oh Christ, that's all you need, your internationals-winning sister back on the Cromwell and ready to show you up in front of your team.
...Then again, you don't know the first thing about actually managing and training a tankery team. Shit.

>INSTRUCTOR UNLOCKED: SAMANTHA NICHOLLS
Instructors are individuals who can help train your team. They are not strictly needed, but you and the rest of your team will train faster and work better together if you have somebody to oversee. Some instructors also give benefits, but will cost more to retain.

Well, that's given you a lot to think about. What now?

>Didn't Rosie say she'd be looking into doing a stall for the club fair? Maybe she needs help.
>The ITL inspectors will be around tomorrow, you should make sure everything's ready for them.
>Embark on a quest alone (See pastebin)
>Call somebody and go on a quest (See pastebin)
>Just hang out with your crew

>Didn't Rosie say she'd be looking into doing a stall for the club fair? Maybe she needs help.

Members needed. We've got five tanks right now and only one crew.
>>
>>919405
>Check in on Rosie

You should probably see how your RO is getting on. Luckily, she lives just down the hall from you!
"Oh, hey Alfie." Rosie is already up and dressed, and as she opens her door you can smell something delicious. "I was just making an omelette for breakfast, you want one?"
"God yes."

...

You and Rosie chew your way through an omelette each while she shows you her plan for the club fair.
"You see, we'll have a donation box for anybody that wants to support the team, plus a signup form, I'm thinking we can have a tank or two as well."
You nod, looking over her notes. "Sounds good. Anything I need to know about?"
She nods and pulls out a piece of paper. "Yes, actually. We need to decide what kind of stall we're going to have."

>Small stall: A banner, table, donation box, signup form, and little else. (Free)
>Medium stall: The above, except it's a proper stall, and you'll have space to bring a tank. (Costs £100)
>Large stall: All of the above, with the space for two tanks, and access to the school field to give tank rides for extra cash! (Costs £250)

(You have £5000)
>>
>>919487
>Medium stall: The above, except it's a proper stall, and you'll have space to bring a tank. (Costs £100)
This sounds reasonable.
>>
>>919501

I'll go for this too then.
>>
>>919487
>Large stall: All of the above, with the space for two tanks, and access to the school field to give tank rides for extra cash! (Costs £250)

I'd like to think we could make enough money back to cover some of the initial investment.
>>
>>919487
>Medium stall

"Eh, let's not get ahead of ourselves. We'll get the medium one."
"Righto. Don't worry, I'll handle the stall and I'll get Melissa to help me with bringing a tank down." Rosie notes down your choice on her piece of paper.

>NEW QUEST UNLOCKED
>Putting on a show
>Run a stall for the club fair

"So apart from that, any problems?"
Rosie smiles, "Nope!"
...
"...Really?"
She nods.
"...Huh. I kind of expected something, with how the week's been going."
"Don't worry, I'll let you know if I have any problems. I guess I should head down to the HQ to start preparations, want to come?" Rosie starts slipping on a pair of shoes.

>Want to come?
>Yes
>No
>>
>>919605
>Yes
Maybe get the crew on the way.
>>

We should probably make sure all's good for the inspection tomorrow. That said, we'd be heading to the HQ for that as well, right?

As such-
>Yes
>>
>>919605
>Yes

"Sure, why not." You pull your trainers on and shoot a text to the rest of your crew to ask if they want to join. Suzy replies in short order saying she'll be around after work, but the other two let you know that they're on their way.
Meanwhile, you and Rosie head out of the dorms and start down the street. It's a little cool, but you're fine in a light jacket. Looks like the Cromwell is going through a lot of clouds, though. You hope the club fair won't be rained off.
"Looking forward to school?" Rosie asks suddenly, glancing across at you.

You glance back at Rosie, and shrug a little. "I guess. I feel like the tankery club is more important for now though. If we don't show that we can keep it going, that's what? Sixty years down the drain."
Rosie nods, "I see what you mean. But school is important too. If you fail your classes, you'll be sent home!"
You grunt in response, and the rest of the walk to the HQ is in silence.

There's a hint of thunder as you let the pair of you in. Rosie breaks off to check in storage to see if there's a banner or something from the old team. You find yourself wandering over to the tanks, which Belle's team has painted the standard CSC olive green. You pat the Matilda on the track guard- it feels as solid as it should.
"Er, excuse me?" You jump in fright and spin around in alarm to find five first-years standing in the doorway of the tank hanger.

"Hey, what's up?" You smile at the bunch of girls and gesture for them to come inside.
"Uh, is this the tankery HQ?" The one in front asks, apparently their leader.
You turn around and pointedly look at the tanks right behind you. "It sure is! You guys interested?" They all nod eagerly. "Well you came to the right place! Rosie!"
Your RO pokes her head out of the storage room, a big banner in her arms. "Alfie?"
"We have our first crew!" You beam, putting your arms around the first-years' shoulders. "Sorry, I'm Alfie, you guys are..?"
The girl who spoke gestures to herself, "I'm Jane, Jane Langley. This is Liz, Tessa, Jess, and Donna." She gestures to each of the other girls in turn. You shake their hands and immediately forget all their names. Rosie comes over too, and does the same. At that moment, Melissa and Mandy walk in, so your RO goes over to get their help.
Meanwhile, Jane is staring at you and the tanks with starts in her eyes. "Can we try it, please? Can we try a tank?"

You shrug and gesture to the line of tanks. "Sure." They immediately make a break for one of the Crusaders. What could go wrong?

...

Wow, so that's what can go wrong.
Jane nervously wrings her hands as you watch Melissa use the Valentine to drag the Crusader out of a hedge. "...I'm kind of impressed, actually. I don't think I've ever seen somebody crash a tank so fast before." Jane's driver, Jess you think, is trying to hide behind her.

>"Look, no harm's done. I'll be pleased to have you on the team."
>"I appreciate your zeal, but perhaps you should be in something a little... slower."
>"Maybe tankery isn't for you, girls."

They all squeal happily, loud enough that you need to put your fingers in your ears. "Come down to the club fair tomorrow if you guys have the time, yeah?"
"Okay!" The five of them head out, chattering happily to themselves.

>QUEST UPDATE
>When the drafters come a-marching
>2 crews gained! (Including you.)

Right. Time to deal with the crashed Crusader. You jog over to where Melissa has finally managed to tug it free of the hedge.
"What's the damage?" You call over the roar of the Valentine's engine.
"I think we're okay!" Rosie calls back, examining the front armour. You head round to join her, and thankfully she's right. There's only a few scratches, even. "Right, you girls get them back into the hanger. Mandy!"
Your loader salutes.
"...Could you get some lunch for us?"
She nods and immediately leaves without waiting to ask what the rest of you want. Eh, what could go wrong?
...You need to stop asking that. Anyway, time to tidy up! While Rosie and Melissa take care of the tanks downstairs, you head up to the offices and get everything nice and shipshape for the inspectors tomorrow. With that done, you go back downstairs and have a lovely picnic lunch with your crew, sandwiches, crisps, lots of tasty things.
>>
>>920774
Now I'm going to try something new and leave it here for tonight, I didn't sleep much last night and I'm dropping off on my keyboard.
What I'm going to do is pick up again tomorrow at 17:00 GMT and finish the day then.

As always you can catch me on twitter @pixel_anon, I hope you guys have a lovely night!

Thanks for running, Boss. I'll play catch-up tomorrow. Stupid work.

>>920789
Thanks for running. Shame that this is one of those weekends when I'm fucked busy... I'll try to drop in and come up with a few wise suggestions and votes.
>>
Having lunch with your crew is always a nice time, and even Suzy joins you before you finish, claiming she was let off early on the last day of her community service. You can't spend your entire time not doing any work, though!
After lunch Rosie and Suzy start building the stall you'll be using tomorrow to make sure there aren't any problems, while Mandy and Melissa get on cleaning up the tanks that were just used.
Well, that just leaves you to decide what to do.

You watch your crew for a while, but they seem to have everything in hand. You need to get on with raising some more money.

Well, Tankery is still a school club, and the ones who organise club funding is the council. You call an Uber and soon enough you're at the command tower. You head inside, and start looking around.

...Yeah you have no clue where to look. You resort to wandering around the command tower, but that doesn't really help either. You're about to give up when you turn and corner and walk right into somebody! You crack heads with them and the pair of you are sent tumbling to the ground.
"Ow, fuck." You groan, rubbing your forehead.
"How dare you!" Comes the shrill reply, which just worsens your headache. You look up to see a senior- wait, isn't that the girl that came barging in the HQ the other day? Luckily, before you can ask she answers it for you. "I will not be treated like this! I thought I made the issue clear in your disgusting tank hanger the other day!"

"Nice to meet you too." Your mutter, climbing to your feet.
She scrambles to her feet and tries to make herself taller than you. She succeeds, but only by an inch or two. She's pretty short, heh.
"I am Dorothy Schmidt!" She declares.
...
"Okay." You reply.
"...Don't you... know who I am?"

>"Oh yeah, you're the girl that does that thing in the thing."

"Uhhhhhhh........"

There's a long, awkward pause. It stretches out between you, until the awkwardness becomes too much for her to bare.
"Ugh! I'm Senior Prefect and head of the council you idiot!" Huh. She leans in, and you lean back in response, "And I won't have an upstart like you ruining my plans." She hisses, before straightening up, flicking her hair behind her shoulder in the bitchiest way you've ever seen, and striding off.
"...So does that mean the council won't help with tankery funding?" You call after her, but she doesn't appear to hear you.
...Welp, that was a waste of a good hour.

You spend some more time looking for any other council members - there are like a dozen of them at least you're pretty sure - but all you can find out is that they meet every Monday. So maybe you'll need to see about that.
Regardless, by the time you exit the tower the sun is touching the horizon. Ugh, you want to go home. But...

You get another Uber back to the HQ because you really can't be fucked to walk back. When you get there, you find... well, it's quite a thing.
There's a big banner hung across the entrance to the hanger with 'WELCOME INSPECTORS' in multicoloured letters on it. You stand in front of the hanger staring at it for quite a while.
"...Rosie?" You call, and a minute later the girl herself comes out the hanger.
"Hey Alfie!" She smiles at you, "What's up?"

She looks confused for a minute, then looks up at the banner and smiles at you again.
"Well, I thought that we should make the inspectors as welcome as we can!" You pinch the bridge of your nose, trying really hard not to smile. "...Is that not okay?"
You shake your head and finally give in, "No, no, it's okay, Rosie." You put your arm around her shoulders and give her a squeeze. "I'm sure they'll love it."
The pair of you head into the hanger, and you find that not only have the tanks been repaired, now they're cleaned, and have CSC's roundel painted on the turret. There's a neat pile of wood and a smaller banner near the door, the stall for tomorrow you assume.
The rest of your crew are enjoying a cuppa around the front of one of the Valentines. "Ready to go get dinner, girls? I'm paying." You tell them with a grin, and they cheer. Except for Mandy, of course.

You lock up the HQ and the five of you start walking to the nearest food place, a Burger King.
Obviously, you get the biggest burger you can.
"So, are we all good for tomorrow?" You ask your crew. All four nod.
"I'll be running the stall with Mandy." Rosie smiles across at your loader, who eats her chicken nuggets stoically. You glance across at Suzy.
"...What?"

Letting others deal with the inspectors could be suicide. Handle it ourselves.

>"Suzy, can you and Melissa show people around the tank, maybe try and drum up interest in the team during the fair?"

Your gunner shrugs. "I mean, I guess. I guess we'll grab one of the Crusaders, is that cool?"
You nod, "Use the one that we used a couple years back, I know that one has a judging device in and should be okay anyway."
Suzy gives you a lazy thumbs-up and gets back to her onion rings. You sit back and watch your crew chat to each other. Tomorrow you'll put on the best damn stall in the fair, and get loads of crews. Then you're going to get some tanks, and then you're going to fucking smash the nationals.

You smile to yourself, watching Suzy menace Mandy with half an onion ring and Rosie fuss over Melissa getting sauce on her cheeks. It's been a good day.
