You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently you're back on Eridanus Station, having just come off an ambush by a bunch of highly organized pirates. Things got pretty rough there near the end, but you managed to come through thanks to the timely intervention of Frolaytia's reinforcements, which included Carly's ship.

You also managed to capture a suspicious looking ship trying to flee the system during the ambush, as well. Here's hoping Tank and Lida manged to glean any intel from it.

Anyways, you were scheduled for a debrief with Frolaytia, though you still had a bit of time...

You decide to head over to the next bay over, where the Longclaw was docked. Like the Gullinbursti, the Longclaw had taken her share of bumps and scrapes from missiles and railgun hits. Fortunately, most of the damage was largely superficial. Against the combined might of three Accord destroyers, those corvettes didn't have a chance.

And, as expected, Carly was outside checking out the damage. It was less of an inspection and more of a spectacle for her. You guess she took ship damage as a badge of honor rather than an inconvenience. Of course, Artya didn't see it the same way as her, and you could see her in her silent fury as she directed mechanics to quickly patch the holes or cut out the pieces of the hull too structurally damaged to save. Bolts looks on, his machinery humming silently in tune with both ships as they idled in dock.

"Yo, Sis!' Carly smiles as she sees you approach and she bounds forward to hug you. "Ya really know how to make things interesting!"

"I guess so." You chuckle. "Anyways, thanks for the help, Carly."

"Yep, totally saved your ass there, didn't I?" Carly grins.

"Yeah, we were in a sticky situation." You nod as you ruffle your little sister's hair. "You were a really great help to us."

"Dohohoho, so Sis finally admits I'm useful!" Carly boasts smugly.

"I never said you weren't useful." You correct. "You just have zero discipline."

"You make that sound like it's a bad thing."

"Ugh." You roll your eyes. "Anyways, I was just dropping by. I need to attend a debriefing with Frolaytia."

"Really? Can I come too?" Carly's eyes flash.

You pause for a second. Frolaytia was very particular that you come to the debriefing alone. But bringing Carly along couldn't hurt, could it?

"Sorry, Carly it's just supposed to me only." You pat Carly on the head. "But I'll be back as soon as it's finished, okay?"

"Okay..." Carly mumbles.

With that, you head off to Frolaytia's office. It was a refreshing change to see her in person, rather than through the filter of a holographic projection. As always, Frolaytia is sitting on her desk in a slightly suggestive way, her uniform being just a tad too tight. She eyes you as you enter her office and salute.

"At ease, Captain." Frolaytia puffs out a small cloud of smoke from her pipe. "You should sit down. This might take a while."

You nod and sit in one of the chairs collected in the office.

"I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear this, but the ships that ambushed you were likely Confederate privateers." Frolaytia explains.

"Yeah, I figured they were too organized to be regular pirates." You nod. "Were they gunning after me or something?"

"Well, yes and no." Frolaytia takes another pull from her pipe. "From what we've managed to glean from the survivors and the ships' data logs, they were here to create a diversion for their spyship so it could extract from the system."

"A spy ship?" You raise an eyebrow. You guess that was the cargo ship you had Tank board and commandeer.

"A Confederate one, pulling surveillance on the system." Frolaytia sighs. "Very bold of them."

"Well, what were they looking for?" You ask.

"The same thing Felicity stole from the Hegemony. Information." Frolaytia smiles. "Information of a certain kind."

"And, I'm assuming this information of the classified kind, considering why you've called me here to come alone."

"Quite correct." Frolaytia's grin widens. "Since you've already had access to the data, there's no sense in not filling you in. Essentially, the Hegemony have been surveying vast swathes of the Wastes."

"The Wastes?" You frown. You weren't familiar with the term.

"A section of the Frontier that is particularly gloomy." Frolaytia explains. "Simply put, it's an entire sector of space where so far, absolutely nothing of value has been found. Uninhabited planets, dying stars, and just empty space in general. Lots of stories and rumors of why that area is the way it is."

"Something tells me it's more than superstition." You grumble.

"There have been... stories." Frolaytia continues. "You remember the Graveyard?"

"Of course." You nod. That was where you found Carly, after all. "What about it?"

"It's not he only one. We've found dozens scattered around the fringes of known space. Some people believe it was gravitational phenomena that brought all those ship wrecks together into one place. But there's others who think there's an... outside force responsible."

"You're not saying it's aliens, are you?" You snort. Sure, humanity has found various specimens of xenoflora and fauna, but as of yet no traces of intelligent alien species had been found.

"Well, there's something out there, collecting lost ships and depositing them in Graveyards." Frolaytia shrugs. "But, considering the Hegemony is devoting resources to searching for something out there, and the Confederates tried to steal the Hegemony data from us, Command has no choice but to conclude there is a significant operation in the area."

"So I'm guessing this is my next mission?" You ask.

"That's correct." Frolaytia nods. "But, even with the Hegemony's data, the search area is still incomplete. They haven't found anything, for better or worse."

"Well, if they did find it, we'd know, right?"

"I suppose..." Frolaytia pauses. "You don't happen to know anything else that could help, do you?"

"Not really." You shake your head. It was a half truth.

"How about your sister, then?" Frolaytia smiles.

Shit, did she know? Or was she just fishing for a reaction?

"Actually..." You sigh. You suppose you couldn't keep this hidden any longer. "Carly was also looking for whatever the Hegs and Confeds are after. She seems to think it's one huge mobile treasure trove or something."

"And it might very well be." Frolaytia nods. "If we can combine what she knows with the data we pulled, we might get a step ahead of the Hegemony."

"Carly might not be too willing to give that information out, though." You warn. "This treasure hunt... it's her life passion. If you're just gonna snatch it away like that..."

"Well, that would be your concern, being her sister AND her supervising officer." Frolaytia points out. "There's no choice in the matter. She's a part of the Accord now. She's required to give us full disclosure."

Damnit, you were afraid of this.

"I'll talk to her in private. It'll be easier that way." You sigh. You weren't looking forward to this at all.

"Should I send a guard detail if you don't report back?" Frolaytia asks.

"Don't bother. Either she'll be dead or I'll be." You sigh as you spin on your heel and exit the office.

You almost don't want to go through with this. However, you send a quick comm message to Carly to meet you in your quarters on Gullinbursti, the safest place you can think of. You of course reach there first, and as you wait, anxiety begins to creep into your mind. What if Carly really did get violent?

that was because I was pissed, and wanted this negotiation to fail so that Carly gets to keep her secret. So no, I didn't get what I want, and it seems I won't get it at all.

"Can't we at least talk this through with Frolaytia first? She seemed to be somewhat understanding of our situation." You point out.

Carly pauses, pretty clearly thinking through her options.

"I suppose..." She grumbles. "But if I get a whiff of betrayal..."

"Nobody is betraying anybody." You assure her as you wipe some blood from your mouth and put a reassuring hand on Carly's shoulder. "I guarantee it."

The two of you return to Frolaytia's office, where she's still waiting patiently. She smiles as the two of you enter.

"Ahhhhh, Carly, so you've decided to play ball with us?"

Carly shoots her a distrustful look.

"We're in, but we want certain assurances first." You tell Frolaytia.

"Hmmmm, and what assurances are you asking for?" She smirks. "We may be able to grant them, if they're reasonable."

Not any of these other anon but Christ you've never been the older sibling, have you?

Loyalty is to your parents, your superior(s), your siblings.
In.
That.
Order.

At the end of the day? Your objective is to keep your family safe. Not necessarily happy. Hopefully, Sam's sister will realise how much we're risking by simply asking. The accord we're dealing with its more section 31 then federation.

Nope, not to me, never to me. Parents are never more important to me than my sibling, at least in my life. As for my superiors? they only get to be my superiors if I accept them as such. If not, I leave the said superior and look for other ones. I can replace who my superiors are, I can't replace who my sibling is.

You may have your priorities, but I have my own.

I can understand that, bending the rules for family is a given. I'm just saying, especially in this situation; where your boss probably know more about what your sister has been up to than you do, and had most likely knows more about this "treasure" than carly does (this is her JOB, after all), we need to read a fine line.

I'm certain she's using us to soften the blow to Carly's pride. Keep us stringing our sister along so she can profit from it. She's in a powerful position, and she knows it.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly, so here goes: You should keep your parents happiness above a superiors happiness. And a superiors above your sisters. But above all?

Keep family safe.

"All right, then." You take a breath to brace yourself. "We keep the treasure. All of t."

"Done." Frolaytia responds.

"And we don't care if you- wait, what?" You blink surprise, not expecting your commanding officer to be so understanding.

"Did you really think we were in this for the money?" Frolaytia chuckles with amusement. "We don't care about lining or pockets with gold. All we want are... answers, and the knowledge that those answers will not fin their way into the hands of the Hegemony or Confederacy."

O-oh. Well, that all sounded simple enough.

"So how about it?" Frolaytia's smiles widens again. "Share what you know with us, Carly, and we will make it worth your while."

You look at Carly and she looks back at you.

"I'm not sure I should tel you this..." Frolaytia frowns.

"Come on, pleeeeeeaaaase?" You coo, making sure to use those puppy dog eyes you were maybe kind of famous for. Thankfully, it seems to be enough.

"As if I could resist a face like that." Frolaytia shakes her head. "What High Command is interested in i not necessarily in the treasure itself, but what exactly is carrying the treasure. You can say that's the true value of what they want."

Interesting.

"So they just wanna jack the ship itself?" Carly raises an eyebrow.

"Correct, or barring that, the data it holds." Frolaytia nods. "If the treasure truly is being kept on a ship of extraterrestrial origin, then who knows what we could learn from it?"

Huh... it made sense.

"So does this all put you at ease?" Frolaytia asks. "Or are there more 'demands' that you want?"

"Carly, you good with this?" You ask your sister. This was her information, after all.

"Hmmmmmmmm." Carly frowns. "Well, I'm after the treasure, not the fame, so I guess this arrangement is cool."

"Then it's decided!" Frolaytia chuckles. "Well then, it looks like all of us have some planning to do..."
