Demons. Eldjötnar. Oni. Asura. Jinn. Monsters.

Whatever they are called, they now rule the world. On December 21st, 2012, the barrier separating Earth from what is now called the Eskathos ruptured, and these twisted creatures emerged from the Breach to gorge themselves upon the flesh and souls of humanity and sate their endless appetite for wrath, pride, envy, insincerity, falseness, boasting, and bellicosity.

Mad Wendigo spreads frozen wastelands and devours all those unlucky enough to cross its path. Radiant Lucifer spreads his devout cult of personality throughout the world. Jealous Andhaka abducts the wives of his despairing subjects. Two-faced Shezmu drowns northern Africa in orgies of wine and blood. Hidden Vucub-Caquix usurps day and night in South America. Arrogant Arachne weaves her monstrous fashion out of hair shaved from the heads of beautiful maidens. Evil-eyed Balor wages war and battle in Ireland and its neighbors to expand his kingdom.

Demons were not the only ones to return, however. Soon after the Breach opened, the Relics awakened their power. Only these men and women, mortal embodiments of divine weapons and tools, hold the power to match the forces of the Eskathos.

Excalibur and its Sheath arose first, followed by the Thunderbolt, the Tower of Babel, the Brahmastra, Gungnir, the Was and the Smoking Mirror.

The Relics defend human civilization and gather their strength until the day comes when they can lay siege to the Breach and assail the Eskathos itself.

You are one of them.

The monstrous form of Arachne looms over you. The bottom half of her body is a spider's, eight-legged and covered in chitin plates. The top half resembles that of a woman, although it is no less horrifying. Her human limbs are pale and thin, her hands end in claws and her face is stained with black venom.

And she has four pairs of sagging breasts topped with grey, rotting nipples. You could have gone your whole life without seeing that.

Having just tried to ensnare you with her powers, Arachne is still recovering, which gives you a window of opportunity. Orianne and Natsumi stand before you with their Relics, while Selene waits a short distance back. You need to attack before Arachne does.

- Borrow Orianne's power, reducing her DIV to E and increasing yours to S.
- [DC17] Have Selene prepare another of her "hanging" arrows to increase your first attack's damage.
- [DC17] Use Gleipnir to reduce Arachne's END to D.
- [DC17] Use Gleipnir to reduce Arachne's SPD to D.
- [DC17] Use Gleipnir to reduce Arachne's END and SPD to B.
- [DC13] The four of you should immediately attack Arachne.

Gleipnir unwinds itself and rapidly entangles Arachne's limbs. Although she can navigate her own webs, she isn't immune to Gleipnir's power.

Arachne's beady eyes dart across the web that ties her. She screams and stumbles towards your group. Her inhuman strength remains, but the speed she'd previously demonstrated during her ambush is gone now.

"Charge!"

You run forward and attack Arachne directly. Unfortunately, while her speed is currently limited, her strength is not. She easily knocks you away with one of her legs and shatters your formation. She didn't hit too hard and the ground is soft, so you're not badly injured, but you can definitely feel the bruises.

"That didn't go well." Orianne pulls herself to her feet. Her hair is a mess, but she's no worst off than you are.

Arachne stumbles due to her entwined legs. You need to get her before she can get back up.

"Orianne, take over!"

Orianne nods and raises Joyeuse. The royal blade shines with a golden light, and your mind sharpens. You focus on Arachne, and you can feel the flaws in her armour.

One of Selene's Silver Arrows serves as the signal. You charge in as soon as you see the silver streak of light.

Your attacks bounce off. All of them. You fail to even make a dent in Arachne's skeleton.

The creature screams and her hand reaches for you.

You grit your teeth and climb up Arachne's arm. She tries to throw you off, but you use Gleipnir's threads to hang on. You claw your way up to her back and put her in a chokehold. She struggles and trashes about to throw you off and even rolls over herself to try and crush you, but there's no angle where she can get you without breaking her own back somehow. You're hanging on and you're not letting go.

Meanwhile, Orianne, Natsumi and Selene are doing what they can to surround her without exposing themselves. It's tricky, but Gleipnir tightens down to further limit Arachne's movements and your squad gets more room to manoeuvre.

- [DC9] Call for help.

You clench your fist and push Arachne in the face as hard as you can. Her mouth splits open and she twists her head to try and bite your hand. However, getting punched in the brain makes it very difficult to concentrate, so she just lolls her head and gets hit harder for her trouble.

Arachne does finally manage to throw you off, however. You land lightly on your feet, and Orianne and Natsumi immediately rush to your side to defend you.

"That was incredibly dangerous," Orianne says, "but I can't deny it was effective."

"She will regain her senses quickly," Natsumi says. "We must act now."

"We'll go in together," you say. "If you can, try to cripple her legs. The more we can limit her mobility, the better."

"Just follow my lead," Orianne says.

Once again empowered by Joyeuse, you charge Arachne. This time, Natsumi, Orianne and Selene have more luck. There are some cracks in Arachne's carapace, and more form under the pressure of your weapons.

You don't take off one of her legs, but Arachne takes some heavier wounds.

Then you feel a crushing pressure emanate from her body. It flows through the webs and envelops the entire room.

"She's gathering divine power for something," Orianne says.

"We must stop her," Natsumi says. "Whatever she is trying to accomplish, we cannot allow it to happen."

"It won't be easy to stop her," Selene says. "Whoever tries to suppress her power will be out of the fight."

You're maintaining Gleipnir, so you can't counter whatever Ariachne's preparing. Someone else will have to do it.

"Selene, can you take care of it?"

"Right away!"

Selene nocks several arrows to her Silver Bow and lets them loose. They fall all across the cave and begin to glow with a soft silver light. The pressure generated by Arachne decreases significantly and the magical formation she was building up loses much of its power.

Of course, Arachne realizes something is wrong. She turns her head towards Selene and clicks her venomous mandibles.

You need to stop her quickly before she attacks.

- [DC14] Bowl Arachne over.

You can't let Arachne distract Selene, so you do the first thing that comes to mind. You run forward and slam into Arachne's side like a cannonball.

The giant spider monster tilts over and rolls onto her back. You know she can flip herself back up, but how long will it take her while she's wounded? And how many attacks can you get in before she gets back on her feet.

Arachne and hisses while you decide which weak point to go for.

"Her underside should be relatively soft," Orianne says. "Less than her back, at least."

"This is a good chance for us to attack her legs," Natsumi says. "We should not miss it."

"We're going for the legs," you say. "Be careful not to get caught."

"I've already been injured enough, thank you," Orianne says as she raises her Relic.

Orianne and Natsumi have an easy time of it - all they need to do is hack at the legs. You, however, have no blade. You have to climb up Arachne's belly and wrench the legs out of their sockets. It's an exhausting task, but Gleipnir provides as much help as it can.

Arachne, of course, does not take this kindly, but there's very little she can do about it. You don't get all her legs - again, you have to do this with your bare hands - but you cripple enough of them that Arachne won't be able to move much anymore. She can, however, roll herself back on her stomach.

With the help of Gleipnir, you and your squad manage to roll out of the way before getting crushed. Arachne lets out something between a scream and a hiss and the cracks her body begin to widen.

Giant spider heads start pushing out of her body.

This would actually be a pretty good time for a ranged attack, but Selene is still busy. You'll have to do this without getting bitten, or risk getting assaulted by an army of Spiders.

"I do not like the look of this," Natsumi says.

"Neither do I," you say. "We're killing that thing before it can spawn more giant spider babies."

"I have no objection to this plan," Orianne says.

You look for a spot on Arachne's body that's not birthing anything. You don't find one, so you have to settle for a spot that doesn't have many, which is the next best thing.

The trick is hurting Arachne without making it easier for her spiders to spill out. Natsumi and Orianne can cut into her and kill whatever's inside her with long, deep slashes, but all you can do is punch and hope for the best.

Your strategy works. The spiders don't claw their way out, although some bits are pushed out by the other spiders inside Arachne. Your opponent lets out one last pained groan and drops.

It's time to move in for the kill.

You snack your fingers and Gleipnir twists and stretches, ripping Arachne's body apart.

It's a mess. A black, sticky mess that smells absolutely horrible.

Still, Arachne is dead and that's what matters. You turn back to look at your squad and make sure they're all right, so you don't notice it. A jagged stinger flies out of Arachne's corpse and buries itself into your calf. It shrinks and melts and you can feel your leg expand as the stinger pours its poison into you. Before you can yank it out or even say anything, your vision blurs and you lose your footing.

"Eamon!" Orianne rushes to your side first. Maybe. You think it sounds like her voice, but you can't be sure. It's just so hard to remember things right now…
