Demons. Eldjötnar. Oni. Asura. Jinn. Monsters.

Whatever they are called, they now rule the world. On December 21st, 2012, the barrier separating Earth from what is now called the Eskathos ruptured, and these twisted creatures emerged from the Breach to gorge themselves upon the flesh and souls of humanity and sate their endless appetite for wrath, pride, envy, insincerity, falseness, boasting, and bellicosity.

Mad Wendigo spreads frozen wastelands and devours all those unlucky enough to cross its path. Radiant Lucifer spreads his devout cult of personality throughout the world. Jealous Andhaka abducts the wives of his despairing subjects. Two-faced Shezmu drowns northern Africa in orgies of wine and blood. Hidden Vucub-Caquix usurps day and night in South America. Arrogant Arachne weaves her monstrous fashion out of hair shaved from the heads of beautiful maidens. Evil-eyed Balor wages war and battle in Ireland and its neighbors to expand his kingdom.

Demons were not the only ones to return, however. Soon after the Breach opened, the Relics awakened their power. Only these men and women, mortal embodiments of divine weapons and tools, hold the power to match the forces of the Eskathos.

Excalibur and its Sheath arose first, followed by the Thunderbolt, the Tower of Babel, the Brahmastra, Gungnir, the Was and the Smoking Mirror.

The Relics defend human civilization and gather their strength until the day comes when they can lay siege to the Breach and assail the Eskathos itself.

You are one of them.

You hide on the balcony and spy on the people below you.

It's an orgy, no other way to call it. Human or animal, man or women - the fucking is indiscriminate, spurred onward by alcohol so potent that, even from this distance, the smell of it stings your nose.

Sitting upon his throne, Shezmu oversees the celebrations while shifting between his forms. Like Vucub-Caquix, he is a two-faced creature. One of his aspects is a pleasant drunk, while the other is a bloodthirsty beast driven towards violence. The slightest provocation is enough to shift his aspect.

"I have to say, we really know how to pick them," Orianne says. "I just hope all those worshippers are too drunk to accomplish anything."

"We were lucky enough to sneak in without a fight or getting," you say. "That gives us the element of surprise. If we can pull off an ambush, that'll give us the edge we need."

"My bow is ready to fell this creature," Selene says. A Silver Arrow manifests in her hand.

"Okay." Gleipnir uncoils from your arm. "Let's do this."

Before you start this fight, you need to decide when you're going to start it.

- Attack Shezmu while he's in his drunken aspect.
- Attack Shezmu while he's in his bloodthirsty aspect.

"We'll attack while he's in his drunken aspect," you decide. "He should be more vulnerable."

"That does sound like the wisest course of action," Natsumi says. "How should we proceed."

"I don't see anything wrong with our usual approach," Selene says. "Bind him with Gleipnir first and then attack him directly."

"I could lend Eamon some power first," Orianne says, "but Shezmu would most likely notice us if I did."

Your standard approach hasn't let you down so far, but getting a power buff from Orianne would make the rest of the fight easier, even if it would expose your presence. Or maybe you could try going for a lethal attack right off the bat?

- Ask Orianne to empower you, increasing your DIV to A.
- [DC17] Bind Shezmu, reducing his SPD to D.
- [DC17] Bind Shezmu, reducing his END to D.
- [DC17] Bind Shezmu, reducing his END and SPD to B.

You wait for Shezmu's latest violent tantrum to wind down. As he returns to his drunken aspect, Gleipnir slips under the balcony door and makes to wrap itself around Shezmu.

It's your standard procedure. Joints are bound so tight that they have difficulty flexing, and muscles are constricted so that they can no longer exert power. In less than a second, Shezmu's entire body is tied up. He looks at the bindings that hold him and roars in outrage, shifting to his more violent self. He traces the path of the ribbon back and his gaze falls on you. He crouches down to jump; although he's crippled, he can probably still reach you.

- [DC10] Jump into the building to fight head-on.
- [DC10] Get ready to defend your position.
- [DC9] Lure Shezmu outside.

"Defend this position!" You shout. "Don't let it get the high ground over us!"

Orianne and Natsumi step in front of you, Relic in hand. Shezmu jumps into the air, arms spread wide, and throws a punch each at the two girls, who hold up their blades to defend.

Joyeuse has no problem fending off the blow, but Ame-no-Ohabari is designed to parry rather than block, and it takes more skill for Natsumi to defend. Fortunately, she has that kind skill.

Shezmu lands in front of you, covered in wine and blood. The balcony is large enough for this fight, but dodging and manoeuvring is going to be tight.

Then Shezmu changes. The blood covering him turns to wine, his fur softens and his eyes become normal.

"Greetings, friend," he says. "There is no need for violence between us. Why don't you join my celebrations?"

Yeah, you're not going to fall for that.

- [DC13] Punch Shezmu while Orianne and Natsumi have him distracted.
- [DC11] Launch a coordinated attack.

"I'll have to turn down that offer," you say. "Attack!"

Selene acts first, loosing an arrow at Shezmu's head. The beast is forced to bend back a little to avoid the attack, which puts it off-balance. The pressure on Orianne and Natsumi lessens, and they seize the opportunity immediately.

Natsumi slashes into Shezmu's knee, while Orianne thrusts Joyeuse into Shezmu's side. At the same time, you charge in and punch him in the gut.

Shezmu bends over in pain and growls. His claws expand and he reaches out for you with a grasping hand.

When has meeting a punch head-on ever failed you?

You pull your arm back and then send your straight at Shezmu's incoming palm. The impact causes a small sonic boom - or maybe it's just a really loud noise that you're pretending is a sonic boom because that sounds cooler - and Shezmu reels back, cradling his arm in pain. The forearm is swelled; you may have broken the bone.

Shezmu body shifts back to its docile form.

"Why?" He asks plaintively. "Why must you resort to violence like this? I only wanted us to be friends!"

He does sound quite pitiable, but…

"You don't really buy that, do you?" Orianne asks.

"Of course not," you answer. "Get ready for the next attack."

"Selene, this is your shot!"

Selene raises her bow and scoffs. "My arrow will pierce through this beast's evil!"

She looses her Silver Arrow and a blue-white streak pierces Shezmu's left eye and explodes out of the back of its skull.

Blood - wine? - pour out of the wound like a waterfall. Shezmu roars and thrashes, but despite having a large portion of his brain destroyed, he's still alive.

"Kill you!" Shezmu growls. "Killkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkill!"

The thing takes something resembling a runner's stance even though there's only a few feet separating you and charges.

You place yourself in Shezmu's path, plant your feet and hold your arms wide so you can grab him when he charges you.

When he does, charge you, it feels like getting hit by a freight train. And yes, you do know first-hand how that feels like.

You plant your feet, but you still get pushed back to the very edge of the balcony before friction stops you.

The Shezmu gives you a hug.

"That's right, brother," he says. "Let us rejoice together!"

On the plus side, you definitely have leverage on him now, despite your significant difference in height and mass. You grab onto Shezmu and twist your body, tossing him over your shoulder and towards the ground below.

The landing pounds a crater into the ground and sends dirty flying. Shezmu screams in pain and starts crawling out of the hole, but he's not going very fast; the fall and the battle must have broken something. Possibly several somethings.

"It looks like we're almost done," Orianne says. "Shall we finish this?"

"How good are you with landings?"

"I cannot say that it is something I have much experience with," Natsumi answers. "Why?"

"We can't finish the fight unless we get down there," you say, "so we might as well put the fall to good use." You climb onto the guardrail and peer down at Shezmu. "I'll immobilize him. Orianne, Natsumi, I'll need the two of you to drop in with your swords. Selene, you can just shoot him with another arrow."

Selene flicks her hair. "I cannot allow myself to be eclipsed by my comrades," she says. "My attack shall be no less elegant than yours."

"Glad to hear it."

You step off the balcony and land right on Shezmu's back. Below you, Gleipnir spreads out and digs into the ground to keep him anchored. With his body sprawled like this, Shezmu makes an ideal target.

Orianne jumps next, her blade pointed down. She lands at the base of Shezmu's back and digs Joyeuse into the ground. You clear the area to give more space to Natsumi, who thrusts her own blade into Shezmu's heart.

Selene is the last one to attack. She leaps high into the air and looses an arrow through the back of Shezmu's skull to mirror the one she previously made. Then she twirls in the air and makes a perfect landing not far from you.

With his head firmly planted into the dirt, Shezmu can't even scream in pain. A blue-silver light emanates from his body, which quickly melts away.

You have no idea how this place is going to be brought back to order, but your part of it is done.

"We're done, Commander. You can send Francis over to pick us up."

"Understood, Eamon. He'll be coming by shortly."

A golden light streaks through the sky and dips down. The next thing you know, you're standing on the deck of the Vimana.

"Good job, team," Francis says while giving you a thumbs up. "How'd it go?"

- "Great. It was a clean stealth run until the very end."
- "Creepy. In a lot of ways. I'm glad it's over."

So with all these BBEG fights someone is going to get hurt soon. Who do you think will get killed off first? I'm thinking Natsumi because she is a front liner or Francis because he is so cocky and maybe someone well have the perfect counter for him.

Depends on dice rolls I'm waiting for Lucifer to send assassins though. He'd be the one boss to take a look at us, go "nah senpai" then escape until he can pick us off one on one. Arachne might set a trap that could take Francis out with her webs too. Balor's big issue is that eye of doom he has.

"Creepy," you answer. "In a lot of ways. I'm glad it's over."

"Yeah, I kind of noticed that when I had to pick up all those greasy naked fat people." Francis pushes up his sunglasses so you can see his eyes. "Seriously, dude, what the fuck? I had to fly into the Atlantic to clean the mess up."

"Those people needed help!" Selene says. "We couldn't just leave them there!"

"Actually, yes, you totally could have done that," Francis says. "You ignored all the other camps Shezmu has to have running. What's one more?"

"It was on our way, and we needed a distraction," you say. "It didn't disrupt the mission."

"Is that all that matters?" Selene turns to you, anger in her voice. "The mission? You don't care about being a hero or saving people?"

- "I'm just one person. There's only so much any of us can do."
- "Different teams have different jobs. We handle assassinations, not rescues."

"I'm just one person," you say. "There's a whole world of people out there who need help, but I can't give it, because there's something else I need to do. Besides, our team's designed for assassinations. We can't handle rescues."

"And that makes it all right?" Selene crosses her arms over her chest and glares.

"It makes it what it is," you say.

With one final glare, Selene turns away and goes to sit at the edge of the ship. You just sigh and look at the rest of the team.

"Are you both okay?"

"I'm fine," Orianne says. "This was easier than our last battle. Fewer tricks to deal with."

"I am a little tired," Natsumi admits, "but otherwise, I am uninjured. I think I would like a shower though."

"Glad to hear it," you say. "Francis, where are we headed?"

"Back to New York," he answers. "The Commander decided to give you another break before you're dispatched again."

There's some good news if you've ever heard one.
