"But she can't stop us." You boast, feeling your saw mold into your hand and emerge from your flesh just behind your knuckles. The silk like glove that has always been used to catch your saw disapears for the first time, now making intricate and elegant wrist high lavender guards, upon which sits two thrumming cylinders. As you force your back against Lexington's and cover Honamurei as she cuts through a pair of the monsters. You wonder what comes out of of the two... barrels? strapped to your wrist even as you make sure that nothing you may be tempted to use them on appears from the inky darkness that swirls around the dome of light.Once each of the bug like creatures is definitively cut to ribbons Honamurei joins you once more, falling in step behind Lex and facing the rear while you forge ahead. The old Starborn is as protected as possible whilst maintaining the barrier that stands as a bulwark, the two sides look rather bare to you; though this is a manpower problem that your combined power will hopefully nullify. With the three of you in position, Lex speaks up, "Some kind a trade road. With ease borne of combat experience you move as one. Each of you simply flow around or over the masses of rubble in the street without slowing. Cries of battle and feasting ring out around you. At one point you swear that a hand pushes through the barrier and claws desperately at the air before it is yanked outwards by unseen force. But that is the closest you come to a proper engagement as you make decent distance. In fact it seems like the clicking of chitin on cobbles is only increasing in number and intensity as you go. Whilst the cries of slaughter, battle and consumption are becoming less frequent."Vy vont ze just attack?" Hona asks as you reach a corner. Straight ahead is a damaged blacksmith, to the right is another street nobody has travelled on before."Maybe they're scared of us. We did butcher the first three with ease." "No. They're herding us and growin' their numbers." Lex sagely warns. "How?" You demand, on others it would sound timid and disbelievin. But your Monotone simply sounds like a student enquiring of a teacher."When they feast on a brain, the bugs split in two. The two new ones have any special abilities, magic or useful traits of the prey." He grimaces. "If they get any of us...""Ve might have super magical, super fast, or super unkillable bugs zat age very slowly." Honamurei muses unusually sharp. "Vell vat if ve-"You let loose a gout of flame from your wirsts, sending a cone of purple death down the street to your right as a pair of eyes and mandibled tested the barrier. They spread and seethe and rise and fall as surely as a wave. But then you exhale. The sea of Kralka do not so much as part, as they are blown apart by the sheer force and heat that you send their way. This is no geyser, this is a burst of pure purple sun that sends the air fleeing ahead of and around it. Your lantern makes a makeshift vacuum as the power lances forth and splits the block in half. All of the darkness is repulsed by your divine attack, a vortex of bright sunlight streaming down from above the rainclouds; each inky black swirl of Darnite magical essence blown away by the sheer force of your power. Mido is laid bare to you in the second your attack begins. In that fleeting moment you seem to grasp the gravity of this battle and your eyes capture every minute detail of this once peaceful town. You see the devestation the invading Cadalonians wrought, you see the scars of the Munisian desperate defence, and you see the rivers of blood that have flowed through the streets since your own intervention. Then it ignites.A more familiar torrent of flame replaces the almost uncanny straight line that sent the horde of monsters flying across the town, cooking the beasts and birthing a raging inferno that starts to eagerly settle into the ruins of the battle worn town. The world is Purple, the world burns in sunfire.Your fire.It burns.Mido burns. The wounds it inflicted on you cauterizing alongside the rapidly collpasing storefrons and residences. The dull anchor in your stomach lightening as the horrid things Darna unleashed are reduced to nothing but gibbering mad piles of ash and cooked meat. This city will burn and when it is ashes, the lavender embers will glow bright. It will be a warning to The Gods themselves, The Seven Divine Generals, The Senator. Those who take what you care for will burn. You finally stop breathing and watch for what seems like forever. Hona says morosely, letting her legs dangle over the single rooftop not being consumed by the purple flame. Her pale skin reflects the fires galloping throughout the horizon as she stares into the distance with her single eye."The soldier didna deserve these monsters, nobody did." Lexington hands you a cigarette and lights for both of you. "Nobody deserved the hells this place brought out today.""Luc didn't deserve to die." You drone. Sending a buzzsaw down the ground where a wandering monster emerged in a daze. Without any resistance the blade sinking into, through and out the creature."No. No he didnt." Lex agrees."Vhy are you blaming yourself?" Hona demands furiously, looking over her shoulder directly into your crimson eyes."Because it's my fault his dad's dead. So I trained him and looked after him. It's my fault he was here to be killed anyway.""Well he woulda been comin' to academy to train under my escort anyway. But the whole Matt thing is on ye yeah." Lex sagey muses as he blows a small smoke ring. "Luc vas a varrior-""HE WAS A CHILD!" You spit, grabbing the back of her collar, "HE WAS A CHILD WHO HAD NO RIGHT BEING NEAR ME!"As you drag her up to be face to face with you, there's no fear or anything beyond a cold pity in Honamurei's eyes. "Ve tried our best." She simply says, jutting her chin upwards at you, "Vhat you forget; is zat ve made him happy for once in his life.""People die Purps." Lexington says coldly, "Good ones. Bad ones. Young ones. Old ones." With a flourish he dismisses his spear into thin air. "The problem is when Meridas is guiding a sould - it don't matter who's important ta ya or not."Honamurei hugs youwrapping her arms around you whilst you hold her in the air by the front of her uniform. Slender hands clutching you tight with uncanny strength. "I loved him too. But ve can't let zis destroy you." Instead of meeting your lover's eyes, you look up at the daytime sky and the untimely full Moon hanging there. A huge white orb that is drinking in the last vetstiges of the magical darkness that it had spread throughout Mido. "I'm going to kill Darna, Lisbeth, I don't care how." You vow to her as you feel your chest starting to dampen. "But first Darna, I'm going to butcher your champions. Then burn every single one of your Followers. All of them will pay for what horrid evil you've done." With a strage satisfaction you take your palm and rake it across your saw. He grumbled something about setting up the wagon, but soon enough it was lost in the shifting of rubble. Everything fades in and out of focus as you traverse Mido, finding bodies half eaten and shredded from the jaws and claws of creatures not of this plane. That's just nearby; beneath burning piles of stone and wood you see the casualties of the battle, victims of gunshots and swords rather than alien monstrosity's or your own divine fire. After you've spent two hours finding nothing but corpses, the first signs of life come from the street you reduced to glass. The midafternoon sun turning the floor into an emerald mirror that chimes and sings with your crossing.A tower has collapsed here, trapping several underneath. Keeping your posture as stable as possible you tilt your head to peer under the wreckage. Opposite you Hona stands on tiptoes with arms stretched to maximum, the quite honesty ridiculous image of her eye scrunched shut in focus whilst only her palms touch the stonework is painted into your mind forever. But your gaze is then torn to the guns pointed toward your position by the bloodied and broken survivors below.
