The student frowns as you pass him and begin closing the distance towards the AI's firing squad.Without breaking a stride you begin deflecting the incoming lasers with ease, the red lines thudding against the cirtual steel staff time and again. Calculating the vectors of every single laser coming in is taking up a huge portion of your processing, to the point that the visual layer of Lyoko and the the creatures in front of you seem to be stripped away in place of calculations, probabilities, speed estimations and predicted firing orders. With a hop you leap three lasers and land in a 3 point stance. Two Bloks and Four Kanklerats sprint forward to surround you on the bridge and begin firing haphazardly, abandoning the firing squad formation in exhange for unpredictability.A whistle, long, loud and piercing and Odd begins attacking the Ice bridge.Like that. It all falls apart.> 1d20+4 best of 3 please.

The bridge collapses beneath you feet just as a lazer comes in from the left colliding with your shoudler and throwing you off balance. As you tumble down, you're left staring at the digital sea wondering just how a massless and painless projectile threw you off footing in a world where there are no muscles or mass beyond programmed gravity.Speaking of gravity. You kick off the Blok tumbling alongside you, getting on top of a large piece of ice that is plumetting alongside you; standing on the paltform and using it like some kind of makeshift parachute.Wait parachutes go on top.Lasers fizz out around you, dodging the first flurry is simple - but your ice platform chips and pieces fly off into the sea. The next bunch come at you, but you've learned your lesson. Twirling the staff around like some kind of parade baton you pull a complex series of movements to deflect them, noticing arrows intermixing with the lasers as Odd provides covering fire. With a knee trembling impact your small patch of ice hits the artificial water with a terrible thud. There are no ripples or splashes as you or the monsters land, just a sense of the land locking into it's new position instantly. No matter the impossible angles they have tumbled to, each piece of debris has settled exactly where it lay, giving you some kind of bizarre modern art esque landscape leading you to the now sparsely defended tower.A shout of pain from above makes you turn away for a crucial moment and you feel a suddenw eight on your right leg. From far a bove a Blok managed to hit you with ice... freezing you towards your makeshift platform.X.A.N.A HP - 10/18ODD HP ??/30> [CALM] Keep deflecting> [PANIC] Break the Ice with one staff part and throw the other> [DETERMINED] Break Ice then Charge> Write-In

The arrows have ceased, but you manage to split your staff and use both halves to bat away a lazer. Fortunately only a few kanklerats are shooting down at you, else launching one part of your staff at them would be suicide. With a flash of white light one of the creatures disapears, leaving at least three up there and a couple of Bloks. Odd cries out again and you see the catboy leap from the bridge down to one of the blocks of ice, where he scarpers behind cover.Squinting your eyes, you see he's in bad shape. The two of you are now being pincered by two units of the AI's minions who are locked in on high ground. Midway through your rotation you toss part of your staff blind, hitting the edge of the cliff and sending two kanklerats down into the digital drink. Long before the strike lands, with inhuman precision you hop across the small little islands that are static in the seemingly stormy sea. Your staff is halfway rematerialised when you send the other section colliding with a Blok. The monster was charging some kind of red beam, but soon it's sent hurtling sideways from the bridge down into the grey mess below.Odd gives you a grateful salute, his chest is heaving and you see hidden fear in his eyes. Guess he really struggled back here. "Are you alright?" You inquire as the sound of little metal feet converging on your position echoes across the water."Eh, just a scratch." You're not too familiar with this emotion he is displaying and will have to ask about it later. At this moment the scale of this decision weighs on you, delaying means more death. But if you push and fail everyone dies when the AI wins. "I am not sure or certain. Our delaying will cost lives, but our failure will cost every life." A hand yanks your hood down and you scowl when it falls back to reveal your white head of hair, Odd is smirking. "Hey, don't worry so much. You and Jeremy will fix whatever happens, I believe in you.""You have no such data to make that claim." You protest."Affirmative, but I still believe in you." The buzzing comes closer and you spin your staff back to full length in order to deflect the... tiny blasts of light that shoot out from them. It's difficult to call them lasers, but the little hornet things seem to be more specialised and adapted for mobility as no matter what Odd can't seem to nail them.Until a bright column of light appears on the Ice behind the bee-hornet-bug monsters as their attention is divided by the arrival of some kind of oriental swordsman.... Analysis indicates that the panicked breathing does in fact belong to the subject he mentioned; as the first speaker's breathing is laboured and heavy between his words - suggesting illness of some sort. Identification of this voice has yielded no results. Soon the sound of spitting is heard. The man wheezes a laugh. "Such anger is misplaced. But understandable. This is your first interview as part of Project AETHER, you should be excited." "Your barbaric experimentation is no honour for me. Even my motherland vould not engage in such practices." The woman answers in furious French. Drawing a noise of interest, "Well, if my past is to be believed we are not the only ones who seek what AETHER is after. In fact, before I came to Europe part of my job was to analyse the stolen data we had... from the Soviets." The sound of metal on metal is heard, before a deep inhalation.
