My name is Mary.

I now own a dungeon.

Not by choice, mind you. I was forced into this when the previous owner placed a curse on me after I tried to audit him. Now I'm the ruler of this place until my asshole of a boss decides to send someone to free me from the curse.

So, anywhere between a month and forever.

But I'm trying to make the most of it while I'm here.
I've been running the dungeon well. I've got quite a bit of staff and a small army now.

There are some interesting rooms going on and we have a builder now to get the Miniboss up and going.

We also unlocked some new things.

Let's work at that miniboss room, then, and maybe get some slants going- one anon had that inclined room with slippery slimes or something, and I liked that as a more physical challenge.

Speaking of, reminder- don't skimp too much on physical challenges. Esoteric stuff is neat, but I feel it should be a pleasant break, not the main feature.

We can make a square room above the boss room; with a large, flat, square platform held above the room by the bridges. The brown area is mud slime, which won't impede the Knight Slime but will impede adventurers while they fight it. Or, they could fight near the edge/on the bridges and risk getting knocked into the boss room by the Knight Slime.

Alright, here's the layout right now.

They enter the dungeon. Nice fountain. Still haven't done too much with that room yet.
Next room is a pit of comfy slimes with a rope that will be the only normal way to cross. The rope is slicked with slime.

If they get past that there's the Cleric Plant room. This is a central location where they can return and rest whenever they need to. For a price.

The door to the right is locked until they get a key from one of the two rooms on the left.
The bottom room has So You Think You Can Slime in it.
The room above it has the Lily Bribe room. In it is a copy of Lily Slime and a few Explodey Slimes. You have to convince Lily Slime to pull a lever to give you a key. If you displease her she instead pulls a lever for a bunch of Explodey Slimes to come and kill you.

Once you obtain the key from either of these rooms you can go and challenge the Ice Elemental. It is an uphill battle against creatures of ice with Mud Slimes waiting for their time to strike.

IF they somehow get past all that it's Miniboss time.

If they beat the boss they can get some treasure, which hasn't been decided yet, or go on to take on the true boss

And die horribly.

How does this sound? It'll cost us 200 Gold and 3 Water Runes.

Alright, final changes. The treasure at the end contains 80 Gold and can only be obtained via the Explodey Challenge. Giving her a huge lets you keep the treasure. Fighting her makes her explode.

Also, lowered the amount of Explodey's in the Lily Trial room so it doesn't insta-gib the Heroes.

Changed the Miniboss room form Water to Fancy.

Best part is the price is unchanged beyond the 80 Gold treasure for a grand total of 280 Gold, 2 Water Runes, 1 Fancy Rune.

If this is good I believe we can publish this dungeon.

It would actually seem more fair to change the area you would fall into to be a lava lake, a pit of spikes, or knowing this thread, a comfy lake.
Basically the average adventurer would rather be beaten by something that's impossible to fight rather than something they can fight but can't defeat.

How good is your acting? Because I figure you're expected to put on a performance for this kind of thing. Though it might be better to wait until you have the resources to put together some SFX, fancy costumes and the like.
Maybe you could hire an actual actor to stand in for you, but more experienced adventurers would likely see right through it.

The key thing here is to draw the fight out as long as possible while defending Lily. He's clearly getting exhausted.

Full on battle of attrition. He looks like the stubborn sort, so Lily should provide ranged support, BUT NOTHING TOO MAJOR, and especially DO NOT HEAL KNIGHT IMMEDIATELY. Reason being, he'll REALIZE THAT AND LIKELY TRY TO KILL HER FAST. If Lily helps, it should be minor, minor attacks that he won't bother dodging, so as to better possibly kill him via 'death of a thousand cuts.'

HE MAY FIGURE OUT THAT SHE'S DEFENSIVE PRIORITY, so expect that and be prepared for him to launch an obvious attack that he's expecting you to tank for her that'll kill you. SHOULD that happen, try to take immediate advantage and hit him with your hardest hitting attack either during or before the launching of it.

To summarize:

Knight: Dodge, counter, play defense, do NOT overcommit. Last as long as possible.
Lily: Small attacks, minor healing if Knight is looking weary, be careful of oneshots.

'When I first entered the dungeon I immediately thought 'This is a pansy dungeon'. The first 'puzzle' was simple and their mimic didn't even have any treasure. I was worried my old friend Warrior had steered me wrong. But, her words proved true when I fought a rather difficult boss.

A demon was disguised as a normal NPC. After revealing it's ruse a battle was set. We fought for several minutes and I nearly died.
The next room I can only assume was a breather room. I jumped across it easily and fought the final boss. At first I had thought I had it beat but then it went into it's Phase Two. Y'all know how much I love me some Phase 2s. Well, it was at this point that I finally got beat. No more potions, no nothin'.

Then, lo and behold that wasn't even the final boss. There's still one more after it. This dungeon has been a trip so far. Will visit again. One star lost because no loot.]

Well, that seems like a good review, I think. Yeah, very good.

Also, with the mustache burned we've gained a new rune, String.

The rest have interesting runes but... I think I'll just sell them for now.

The dreamcutter sword from rena quest comes to mind. If people start exploiting things like the water runes too much, you could always stick Mary here in the shoes of the last dungeon master, and have her "audited" by a celestial busybody who doesn't much appreciate world-breaking exploits. I hear you but unlike Hero Rena I think runes are less of an issue. I'm in fact a bit glad the whole slime rune thing was thought up because it means the players have more runes to play with and don't have to wait for every dungeon run just to get their hands on 2 or 3. The amount they gain is slow enough and they get used pretty quickly to make things.

Now the biggest risk of creating a bunch of mega monsters is the attraction of more powerful people, as you just saw. So I think it balances itself out fairly well.

I suggest that we don't do anything to crazy for right now. We wait awhile to accumulate more resources and maybe have another one or two groups of adventures come through and try it out. Once we get new runes we should definetively upgrade that mimic. They are supposed to be those hellish enemies that punishes greedy adventurers and then reward them with pretty good loot or lots of money if they manage to win, but our most basic one rune one can get one shooted by any above average adventurer. Although I guess that can wait until we have better loot to reward the adventurers in case of victory.

Also, according to this, we have one Fire rune we got from disassembling a torch that we never used for anything. I knew we had one for cloning purposes.

Well, expanding on the sword idea, somebody already mentioned sticky boots. To add to that, maybe sticky gloves for a climbing and grappling bonus? Slime armor which is like leather armor, but comes with a slime tentacle that can be used as a third arm? Slime helmet that... um... has a bobble thingy that acts as a light source? Maybe the full set can give you water breathing or something.

If you want to go whole-hog, you could also add a slime shield, which acts as a rubbery small shield that knocks back attackers when you block or something.

I feel like explosive whips would be a bit dangerous to wield, unless you make it like the Slime affliction in Monster Hunter. Every swing of a Slime-affinity weapon basically puts a point of 'Slime' on the monster when it connects. Eventually, once it reaches a certain amount of points, the next swing causes a massive explosion that does a ton of damage. (SLime is explosive in the MH universe.) So that might be a cool application of it. But lava whips ala Ratchet and Clank, freeze whips, that kinda stuff would be sweet.

When it comes to plans I like what we have in mind but want to make sure I know that I am following the plans in mind right now.

First of all, I am all with>>193947 >>194032 on creating a spa room with various treatments. I am sure we can create steam and sauna capable slimes as well. I am sure we can come up with more, but thats what I have for now.

Its a good way of racking up some gold. But I think we should view this as a long term project.

Second, I like the token exchange for the shops in principal, but what do you think we can offer right now? Should we look to creating some useful items, like potions or ammo or loot? Or special dungeon exclusives? Food? I don't know what we have right now that can be sustainable. At least in our infancy.

Also, can Curi split into more than two, now that shes a 4 rune slime? May be useful if we get massive adventuring parties. Then everyone can be involved.

As for the comfy slime trap, just send them back to the start. No need to be extra punishing off the bat.

Sort of. The initial idea was that the spa was the 'hub' of the ground floor, and the second floor was 'serious mode'. It is a long term project. Our ideas for prizes and items seem to be generally agreed to be either specific weapons and/or cosmetic collectibles, as opposed to casual fare. Hmmm, well with that in mind. I guess we could leave the spa upstairs, though honestly I like it as a secret room. Its going to have to be a very hefty room, of course if we're going to have massage tables, three types of baths, saunas and steam rooms. Maybe we could have it where you need 'X number of tokens to get inside'? It would be an unconventional treasure room, where they use it as a breather room. As the dungeon expands there could be ways for parites to return whenever they need to to destress, heal up, etc.

As an additional aside do we just set the challenge rooms as token only rewards? Or perhaps a 'roulette' where they get tokens, gold or a 'small prize' collectable upon completion?

Well, the idea was that it wasn't secret- we had thought of running this dungeon as a less typical-dungeon and more of a business- a battle colosseum with rewards that had a dungeon-y layout. The spa would be a part of the 'lobby' so to speak, which also had the token reward booths- hence why it'd be in the center area and have access to everywhere else.

We're looking at it as less of a reward and more of a centerpiece/defining area. It lets the adventurers know we aren't a typical dungeon. We're a bit more interesting.
