Welcome back, Kestrels, to the ninety-fourth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! I'm Wong, your host, and today you are Roarke Susan Starwind, King of Phaeton, master of the Iron Kestrels Space Pirate Fleet and rightful ruler of the asteroid belt. >>1799311Party must have been rough
>>1799370You know nothing, Jack Sparrow.
>>1799311>This is the happiest day of your life, and you are in utter agony. Some kind of dick friction burn
Your head feels like it was used as the stadium for a Synthwave concert, buzzing in uncomfortable frequencies, and your tongue still feels thick and swollen despite the water you chugged when you woke up, half-dressed, curled up in the pilot seat of the Knuckle Kaiser this morning. Rather than get married in a church, you're doing it out here on a field in one of Red Siren's public parks, where a stage has been set up and a virtual forest of chairs for onlookers. Every time a bird chirps, your head throbs painfully. It's a shame, because some of these speeches are really good. Pierre's, in particular, pre-recorded for this occasion, has moved several people to tears with its bluff sincerity and laughter with its amusing anecdotes, “Anyway, she never quite gave up on her dream of being a maid...and I never stopped making messes for her to clean up...”It's not as if you've forgotten the events of last night entirely. You were just so drunk that they're completely disjointed, standing like the isolated monoliths of some ancient temple lost to time, hinting at the shape it once held. Still images, vividly colored by jubilant emotion.“...When I first met Roarke Starwind, I thought 'right, that man is going to be a damned peril to my poor sister' from the moment he stopped pretending to be a filthy scavvie. Of course, at the time, he had just finished scraping the head of my Pumpkinseed along the hull of California Station...”You remember the bar crawl, getting steadily more and more inebriated with your friends and senior officers. You remember the shared recollections and stories. You remember the mutual promise to avoid all girlfriends tonight, and celebrate the brotherhood of manly friendship on your last night of bachelorhood, sworn solemnly with mugs held high. You remember a group of the SOUL men showing up, and singing karaoke with Major Amos Wedge and his squad. You remember Colonel Stern doing frankly hilarious impressions of the various SOUL pilots he's known.“Really, I think the trouble all began when I caught her staring, blushing, at the bounty computer program on her PC. I guess she was looking him up.”That was the normal part.[Continued]
“...I should have realized something was wrong when she wouldn't stop staring into space humming that 'Killer Queen' song...”Samantha's slender, long-haired father sniffles and blows his nose, her hulking mother patting his back consolingly. You're not quite sure how you ended up getting Domon drunk, but you do remember fighting him. Since neither of you was sober or seriously intending to hurt the other, that mostly meant you wrestling a gigantic, well-fed tiger. Truly a difficult foe. You're pretty sure he got ahold of your jacket and threw you through a window. You remember apologizing to the proprietor, vaguely. You remember hitting the streets with several bottles. You remember having to drunkenly pretend that Oda wasn't hiding up a tree behind you when confronted by a very insistent Jane Mappa. You don't think you did a very good job, because you remember running away, laughing. Dave from Engineering saved the day when he managed to pry open an entrance to the sewers for you to escape.“...I won't lie, the situation with Suleiman 1, we argued a lot, but I never had to worry about Samantha before. I was so angry at Starwind when she vanished, because I was sure he'd tricked her somehow, but maybe I was really angry at myself for not doing more to help?”You're not sure where the giant, frozen tuna came from, but somehow it ended up in the lake. You think maybe there was some plan to revive it or something to make up for Rosita not getting to import crocodiles? Either way, it didn't work, and when you threw it out of the water in disgust and almost hit Colonel Stern he cut its head off with a single slash and then fell off the pier midway through a sip of whiskey. [Continued]
>>1799474What in tarnations happened last night.
You remember Maxwell Hammer having to wear the hat of shame for breaking the 'no girlfriends' rule to go visit Mako Nunez in the hospital. His protests that they weren't dating were overriden by her demanding he honor his word and wear the hat, which might be the most roundabout way of asking someone out that you've ever heard. Knowing she's conscious again...and you can see her, covered in bandages in the crowd, so you know that wasn't a hallucination...made the whole night happier.“...Anyway, she'd always been the most ethical person I knew, so when she retired it was hard on a lot of the SOUL personnel...”Richard and Finn Bodvarsson had an honorable swordfight with hedgetrimmers, apparently over whether or not they're related. You remember that. Apparently the hedgetrimmers weren't theirs, because you remember the police showing up. They were in groundcars and light tanks (tiny in scale compared to the massive HMIS-equipped ones like the Blitz), fortunately, so you bent the doors so they wouldn't open and ran away whooping. There was a paint fight in one of Auditorium's mechbays. The Tournament Mercenary Faction all allied and won handily, you're not very good at that sort of thing and got completely drenched...thankfully it all came out before the wedding...“...I nearly threw Ensign Young into a garbage vent when I heard him say that, I think it's part of the reason why the SOUL squads got sent to different ships. No brawling on Colonel Stern's watch, no sir...”You remember needing to wash off, which involved starting a fire to activate the sprinkler systems somewhere. Hopefully you didn't damage too much. [Continued]
You remember racing Oda in Harpy Shinobis while singing along with some incomprehensible song he insisted was good. You would have won, but you slowed down at the finish line to give him a high-five and tied. Part of the course was buzzing the Iulia Maesa repeatedly in stealth mode to set off its proximity alarms. Its CIWS turrets had just come online when the S-Betta appeared out of nowhere and dragged you both away. You don't count that as violating your oath. You didn't seek her out, after all, she grabbed you and pulled you away and then left to do whatever it is women do to get ready for weddings. You ran from the police, again, after you and Oda crash-landed into the woods. This time because Bruce Kelly was the first person you found and he insisted you join him for what he insisted was his people's most sacred tradition and the foundation for most of their songs. At least that's what you think he said. At any rate, it involved stealing sheep. You're not sure where the sheep went. You think they wandered away when you forgot about them to get more booze. You were distracted by Mohammed explaining in great, drunken detail to several extremely inebriated Martian dignitaries and Hakim the Kinless...drinking through a straw to avoid taking his helmet off...why his mech wasn't human-shaped but rather fashioned in the likeness of the Greater Crested Ape of Chad. Asim insisted he'd heard of it.At some point you got past the barricade of female tournament pilots trying to keep your drunken mob out of the mechbay where the tourney mecha were kept, because Karen was too worn-out after your shower to remember to transport the Flowerhorn and Kaiser back to the Rhinehawk and thus your mech was still there. You remember having a long, one-sided talk with the Kaiser. It seemed happy. Why wouldn't it be? Yes, most of it is new...the bioframe, the armor, the improved circuitry, the entire structure of the arms strengthened and revamped, the weapons systems, the shields, the drones...but at its heart, it's got the frame of a mech that was left for junk, and yet saved your life. It's your mech, your only mech. Even Colonel Stern and the Paladins couldn't defeat it, or at least they haven't yet. Eventually you fell asleep there.“...And so...while I can't be here today, I can show my sister that I understand the lesson she taught me, that sometimes, you have to follow your heart and do what's right even when it isn't easy...”[Continued]
>>1799525That is adorable.. and I need to know what the hat of shame is.I might make a picture.
So are we going to turn the belt into space 'murrica? We haven't really discussed our plans for this or at least I hadn't caught up when that came up, this is my first thread since January, it's good to be back.
>>1799599We've just got recognized as an independent nation and were given dominion over the belt by Sol. At this point we're leaning more towards space Germany than murrica.
>>1799534>You were distracted by Mohammed explaining in great, drunken detail to several extremely inebriated Martian dignitaries and Hakim the Kinless...drinking through a straw to avoid taking his helmet off...why his mech wasn't human-shaped but rather fashioned in the likeness of the Greater Crested Ape of Chad. Asim insisted he'd heard of it.That has to be one of the greatest bits of rules lawyering I've ever heard."No. No. It is a monkey, not a human."
Which is why you feel so confident about your design for the wedding rings, actually. Precious metals and gems have lost a lot of their value since ancient times, gold and platinum are both commonly used in the construction of a mech's sensors and circuitry. The rings are made of shards of the Kaiser's black armor, each set with a gem taken from the sensor core of the mech. Threads of gold and platinum have been intricately wound around and over the rings, each unique to the girl it's intended for. “The point is, I wish I could be there, but you've made me proud, sis. I've got to go do what's right, but I love you a lot, and I don't feel like I'm losing you so much as gaining a surprisingly honorable big brother. There's no one who can keep her safe better than you, Roarke, and nobody can keep YOU safe better than her, so listen to her.”You smile, you'll have to listen to it again later. Samantha sniffles, Fatima pats her on the back, and mutters something about not wiping her eyes with her makeup on.Speaking of brides, yours are absolutely radiant today. Each of their flawless, white dresses are different in style and form, and each is perfect for them. At least as far as you're concerned, you neither know nor give half a damn about what's fashionable as far as wedding dresses are concerned. They all look beautiful and that's what counts.Fatima's is slender at the waist, and wide around her feet, giving almost the impression of a mermaid, with long...cloth...hangy scarf veil bits coming down to hang around her arms and a hijab matching the dress. You're not much good at describing dresses. The silver embroidery portrays traditional Islamic art themes, impressionist but reminiscent of flowers. She's radiantly happy, a huge smile on her face no matter how hard she tries to stay serious.Samantha's is classically Victorian, all lacy and ruffled with a high collar and tremendous skirt. It strikes you as the sort of thing a princess would wear, making her look tiny and innocent. All of the attention is making her blush, and with that dress you keep expecting her to pull out a parasol and hide behind it.[Continued]
Loriette's somehow manages to be even more princess-like, albeit a princess from a far earlier era, with a cross-laced bodice that must make it quite difficult to breathe. You're sure that style has a name, bordeaux or something? You don't know. You know nothing of women's fashion. It has those dagged, hanging sleeves you associate with medieval princesses, though. Her hair is a waterfall of golden curls, and she's wearing a sword at her side, apparently that's traditional for nobility on Avalon although the long skirt, raised slightly in front so that her feet are visible, must make swordplay difficult. A veil hangs from a pillbox cap on her head. She looks nervously optimistic.Rosita's, too, carries the air of a princess. True to form, hers is trimmed in scarlet and remarkably fancy, patterned with flowers. She wears a broad-brimmed hat with the veil hanging from it instead of her usual tricorn. She handles the spotlight like a professional, cool and enjoying herself.Karen's is the most modern, with a narrow skirt and one shoulder exposed, Jovian-style, rather minimalistic and practical. Her frizzy braids have been undone, and her hair has been brushed out until it shines sleekly in a dark waterfall down her back, held away from her face by a diadem. Unlike the others, she's chosen sandals that lace up the calf rather than more traditional heels. She's smiling but there's a faint glaze of terror in her eyes from being stared at by so many people.Clemmy's doesn't cover her shoulders, exposing the smooth, fit lines of her arms. It's remarkably girly, adorned with almost as many frills as Samantha's, and she has an enormous bow of white silk in her hair. She's also wearing a sword, probably because Loriette got to wear one and she wanted to as well. Hers is a cavalry saber with a white-silk sheath, an elegant-looking weapon with an ornate hilt and gracefully curved blade that you know can slice a man in half, instead of her usual belt-blade. Like Fatima, she's grinning hugely, and keeps catching your attention to wink at you, occasionally trying to whisper to you and getting shushed by Fatima....You're so absorbed in looking at them that you quite miss the short sermons given by the three religious figures officiating. Loriette insisted she was fine with a Jovian cleric and a Martian imam presiding, and Fatima clearly managed the conflict of having two religious figures simultaneously involved herself, because their interplay is practiced and their dialogue is virtually conversational. Not just with each other, but with Josiah McAllister as well. The Catholic Bishop's speech is polished to the point of genius. He may be a flawed man, but he was your father's friend, and you insisted he participate despite you not being a Reformed Catholic...or really religious at all...and none of your wives sharing the Lunar faith.[Continued]
>>1799729>you're so absorbed in looking at them that you quite miss the short sermons given by the three religious figures officiatingThis feels like the beginning of a long joke.

Oh, right, as for you...you may have woken up rumpled, but you cleaned up nicely. Your white tuxedo is tailored by the finest Lunar tailors. Surprisingly, you found out that you're not being charged for it. People competed to dress you, the publicity guaranteed to bring in business. Again, Fatima handled all of that, with Rosita's help. Your hair practically glows from being washed and brushed so thoroughly beforehand, and your trademark sunglasses gleam in the light. Little Athena, looking so adorable it nearly stops your heart, proceeds down the aisle with the rings on a little cushion. Her eyes are wide and she can't stop looking around at everything, but she strides purposefully forward and holds the rings out, first to Samantha by accident, then to the middle of the girls when the kindly Jovian cleric gives her a subtle indication to do so. One by one, you place the rings on the girls' fingers, and they do the same to you, all six touching the ring as it goes on your finger. Your wedding band is, naturally, more simple than their rings, an interlocking platinum series of large-knuckled hands, each gripping the wrist of the next. You spot General Hatsheput crying happily at the whole scene. Mohammed, with her seated on one side and a beaming Shukriya Ahmad on the other, pats her shoulder comfortingly, and Shukyira offers her a pad of tissues, her own eyes rather moist. One by one, the clergymen ask your brides whether they'll have you as their husband, to have and hold from this day onward, in good times and bad, health and illness, war and peace, prosperity and poverty, in wisdom and folly, to be comfort and counsel, to love and cherish, until death does you part. Each answers with a firm “I do.”Finally, it's your turn, and Josiah looks you in the eye, and asks you the same questions. When you answer “I do.” He smiles, and quietly tells you that he wishes your father was here for this. You nod in response. He turns to the crowd and spreads his arms wide, “Rejoice! This is a happy day, not just for those we join in holy matrimony, but for the entire galaxy! May this marriage bring peace and happiness to all! If any here would object to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace!”[Continued]
>>1799818having Karen build us Liberty Primes when?
>>1799823INB4>Drunken Fairchild shows up in a wobbly Quebly and starts ranting against the Kaiser.
>>1799846Took the words from my mind. If she wasn't drunk before, she is now.
“I object!” Shouts a teenage girl with tear-streaked mascara, trying to rush the stage, “You can't take Roarke Starwind away from women everywhere! It's not fai-” She clutches her neck abruptly, where a slender tranq needle protrudes from her skin. Her eyes roll up in her head and she collapses, to be carried away by a few of the Iron Kestrels providing security. You can see them moving among the trees, alert for any sign of a sniper even now.Rosita and Samantha's heads both whip around towards Fatima, who smiles sheepishly, holding a slender, pearl-white rifle whose engravings match her dress. She puts the gun down behind the altar again, and smooths her dress. The other two girls nod approvingly at her. “Anyone else?” Josiah asks, dryly.Ensign Young starts to stand up, bringing up a list on his PC. Fatima reaches for the gun again, her eyes narrowing.“...Personal objections only, please, any questions of the moral implications of this marriage are better saved for historians.” Josiah remarks, patiently.Lysa Fleur grabs Keith Young's arm and firmly pulls him back into her seat, shaking her head. You're a little surprised Lysa showed up, Rosita said she wasn't in her bed this morning, apparently practicing early or more likely making lifelong mistakes with Keith. Her aunt is noticeably NOT in attendance, thankfully. ...and thankfully, there's a starship-class energy shield surrounding the field. You can see the glowing blue bubble rippling faintly up above, in case General Fairchild decides to just open fire with her starship's main beam batteries. To further dissuade her, the Rhinehawk has been launched. It, the Jaburo, two Martian cruisers, and the Cincinnatus are all maintaining discreet positions where they can easily surround and blast the larger warship if it starts to move unexpectedly. You wanted to leave the Martians out of this, but Asim rightly pointed out that Fairchild was involved in the Rashad incident.[Continued]
>>1799878>Ensign Young starts to stand up, bringing up a list on his PC.ahh, Jesus always making me kek
Josiah clears his throat and looks at the Jovian cleric (an acolyte of Juno, naturally), and the Martian imam, who both nod at him. “Then, by the power vested in us, three vessels of Divine Light, we pronounce Roarke Starwind man to his six wives, Fatima Ahmad, Karen Cohen, Samantha Blanchett, Alice Farragut, Rosita Kim, and Loriette le Kennedy. You may kiss the brides.” And kiss them you do. Your headache and hangover melt away, unable to compete with the sense of happiness and well-being that permeate you completely. They each get more than one kiss apiece in, but who's counting? The girls throw the traditional bouqet together, laughing as they muck it up and it barely clears the front row of seats instead of going deep into the crowd. It immediately starts a fight. Kathrine Archibald, Maya from the bridge crew, and Shukriya all dive for it simultaneously...but Irina Gaunt forces her way in with her elbows, going up on tiptoe and snatching it before her rivals can drag her down, fixing Major Wedge with a victorious smile while Rosita squeals with encouragement to her sister and a slender blonde woman...who looks pretty but like she's seen an awful lot of hard road and mistakes...who resembles both Rosita and Irina sobs happily into the shoulder of a serious-looking, businesslike man with glasses. Then, it's time for the reception, and cake. You personally selected the soundtrack for the reception, and enjoy the chance to expose a modern audience to real music. You cut the enormous cake with the ceremonial scimitar the imam hands you, and take the first bite of the first piece. You never knew cake could taste so good, it's fluffy and light and so, so sweet without being cloying. The cute little figurines of you and your brides on the topmost of its seven tiers are especially adorable. Athena steals a little curlique of icing from the base at one side, but you don't mind. Let her enjoy it. [Continued]
>>1800004..Hope Miles is dealing with that transport full of those controlled knights or that data we got from Caesar. Her not being here means she is up to something.. if she doesn't try to live stream her speech.
>>1800004>but Irina Gaunt forces her way in with her elbows, going up on tiptoe and snatching it before her rivals can drag her down, fixing Major Wedge with a victorious smile while Rosita squeals with encouragement to her sisterYes!
You turn with your plate in your hand at a response to a cough by your right arm, and see Miles, her expression deadly serious, “We need to talk, Caesar managed to send us a call.”You immediately disentangle yourself and walk with her away from the festivities, keeping your voice down, “Go on.”“Well, it was about an hour and a half before the wedding, actually. I'm sorry, I would have told you sooner, but it was impossible to get you alone with all of...this.” She looks around, “There are two parts, we'll go over them separately. When I'm done, you'll see why, you'll need a clear head to deal with the first part without thinking about the second part.”You scowl at her being so roundabout, “Just tell me.” The only thing worse than Miles being direct is Miles being mystifying. She sighs, “Alright, Fairchild had been running a facility on Titan. A...prison camp, where she was using those...those headband things on captured Avalonian soldiers.”Your blood runs cold, remembering those terrorist attacks on Jovian colonies the news had been harping on about. But surely she wouldn't go that far...or would she? It fits with her earlier schemes, after all.“Now, Caesar liberated the camp, and they're all going out of system...but he managed to send us a file, proving everything. It has Fairchild's name, her face, her signature approving requisitions for troops, supplies, building materials...everything. We've got her, Dude, she's FUCKED!” Miles' voice, though, doesn't sound as jubilant as you would have expected. “This is a fucking war crime, she's DONE! She'll be tied to the Green Skulls AND what happened to Fatima, she's fucking SLAGGED!” She punches your arm, grinning. “How's THAT for a fucking wedding present, huh?”You could almost hug the evil little woman, but...something on her face is more vindictive than overjoyed. “Something is wrong, though, isn't it? That's this 'part two' you referenced.”[Continued]
Wanna take bets on how many posts it's going to be before something goes wrong?
“The evidence that she knew about all of this, ordered it...it's all there. All of it. Shush, Dude, I'll get to the bad news when I'm ready.” She growls, frustrated. “You may have noticed I was late to the wedding. Well, I wasn't fucking around, I promise you that.”“I DID see you on your PC.” You mention, a bit snidely. She grins, “Yeah, well, you'll thank me. See, a bunch of the prisoners recorded as being at the facility had been stuck on one of those big cargo haulers we used to specialize in hitting before they started toting around armed escorts, you know the ones. The ship is named Rainy Morning, and naturally my first thought was that it would come here.”You shake your head, “Forty Avalonian Knights wouldn't make any Jovedamned difference against me, especially with all of the firepower we have here. Has Fairchild finally snapped? It's not even useful to turn me against Avalon, I've already committed to the League.”Her smile becomes more sharklike, “It took five minutes with the number of people I pulled in running searches to confirm the Rainy Morning isn't here...so, I, uh, called in a few favors. You know how I do. We're lucky, I got a message during the wedding, just a few minutes ago. The Rainy Morning is on JUPITER.”“Which colony?” You ask.“Palatine. Where the fucking Jovian senate meets and where the Planetary Chairman's mansion is located.” She remarks, then cuts off your panicked response, “Hey, hey, I'm not an idiot...” She looks over at where Stern, Hatsheput, and several other UJCIDF senior personnel are suddenly checking their PCs and speaking in worried tones, “As tempting as it is to let them all get fucked up...I used Auditorium's ansible and called it in. There are more than enough mecha on Europa to deal with this, an attack like that won't work unless it's by surprise.”>[Good work, Miles, that's what you're supposed to be doing]>[That's an overreach, Miles, in the future leave decisions like that up to me]

“...I didn't overstep, did I? Sorry, Dude, I would have told you sooner, but, you know, you're getting married! What kind of bitch would ruin your wedding day?” She grins ruefully. You laugh and shake your head, “You did your job, this is exactly what I promoted you for. To be my wingman and shoot down threats I don't see.”She laughs with you, “I wish we could see the look on her face.”You shake your head, “She might not find out for hours, an immediate communication from the ship to her if the assault failed would be suspicious, she'll go about it in a roundabout way, perhaps a spy inside the building. After all, if she showed up to sweep in and declare martial law or something...she wouldn't want to walk right into a firing squad waiting for her, would she?”Miles sighs, “Can't have everything we want, I guess.” “Well, the Planetary Chairman now owes us, right? Again, good job, Miles. You're completely validating my trust in you.” You take another bite of your cake. It's been thoroughly inspected for poison, as has the scimitar you cut it with, the fork you're using, and the plate. Paranoia is the word of the day, here. “Aw, shucks.” She grumbles, “Don't start complimenting me, I'm not used to it. Tell him he can thank me with cash and a private colony for me and Richard.”“So, part two...?” You insist, waiting her explanation. She sighs, her smile fading. “She's still alive, Roarke. You didn't kill her.”“Didn't kill who?” You blink in confusion, “Fairchild? I'd love to, but I'm sure the UJCIDF...”“No.” She shakes her head once, “The fucking green-face bitch who killed Thelma, Minty, and Captain Ozark. The one who's been fucking with us the whole time. She's still ALIVE.”“Miles.” You explain patiently, “I crushed her. There was no magic trick, no way for her to escape, there was hair and bone shards and blood and bits of meat...” That part was disgusting, Bethany Cabot was practically sausage by the time you were done with her, “...In the grinders of the Kaiser's hands. She's dead, I finished her.”“Yeah? Caesar sent us this. One of the Paladins got a look at her.” Miles holds up her PC, displaying a blurry picture partially obscured by a plasma bolt streaking across the shot. You can clearly see what you assume is a disguised Swordfish with its head removed, and just as clearly, you see the Nightmare. There are vivid green streaks painted across its face. [Continued]

The world lurches around you, but you're Roarke Susan Starwind, and you got married today. You do not bow to shock, you take another bite of your cake, then another, “A copycat?”“With her mech. And the green face. Caesar said she openly bragged about it. Dude, she fucked up the Merrow kid...effortlessly, in his words...and escaped a fucking Paladin. Caesar is still a kid, but he's no joke, and Paladins are Paladins. That's not just some shlub who decided to play pretend, and besides...if they're going to imitate someone, why someone so obscure? The First Mate of the Green Skulls isn't exactly famous.”You remember those mocking words, “I'm immortal.” Damn it, you live in the real world, magic doesn't exist no matter WHAT the Avalonians think the Lady is, and nobody just comes back from the dead, let alone with a mech YOU annihilated. She can't be real.“He gave us as much of their conversation as he remembered...apparently, there was evidence of her identity at the facility, so she showed up, blew it to hell, killed a bunch of people, saved evidence of Fairchild's crimes to PROVE she was guilty...”“That doesn't sound like Cabot. Fairchild was trying to keep her alive, she died crying for her...” You protest.“Maybe she remembered she didn't get a response? She's a crazy bitch...” Miles shakes her head, “No, that's not enough to set you on someone you love. The whole time, Fairchild was guarding her. I mean, I hope she's that crazy, but I don't want to believe it.”“Caesar would recognize her. I showed him logs of the conversations I had with her, remember? I was hoping he'd know who it was from SOUL.” Inside, you're screaming. You're screaming and need to hit something. Outside, though, you're a fucking rock, implacable and impassive. “I don't understand...” Suddenly, you remember something, “Clemmy!” You call out to her, “Come here for a moment.”“Just a moment? Awww, no, I'll stay.” She seemed a little ill at ease anyway, with few people to speak to. She skips over, “What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost, ahahaha!” She laughs.“I have. Tell me everything about the third member of the original SOUL B. She frowns innocently, “Um, I only saw them once. They had a masky sort of helmet on, and armor, but...they were shorter than me, sort of skinny, I thought they were a girl. Fairy wasn't bossing them around so much as...ugh, this is hard to explain. She was giving orders but it wasn't as sort of forceful and overbearing as usual, like she was afraid of what would happen if they decided not to obey. She was very angry about something, but keeping it pinned down. I'd, uh, popped in to her office to ask if she wanted to go see California Station before she left, and this person was there. I remember, because there was a Harpy in the mechbay and that was really weird because UJCIDF warships don't use 'em. I came in and she was sort of...asking how exactly they planned on making up for some kind of failure, and said if the next operations didn't go well they couldn't count on having a future. Those were the exact words she used, 'having a future', not 'having a career' or 'staying in SOUL', but 'having a future'.”“Did it seem like they were lovers?” You ask.She shakes her head firmly, “No. I mean, Fairy's really not shy with girls, everyone knows that, but...I mean...actually, that IS weird, she didn't seem interested in her at all, her body language was all wrong. Even girls she hates, she sort of...you know...”“Pervs on.” Miles suggests.Clemmy shrugs, “Sort of, yeah. She was all standoffish, though, unsettled, like a cat when you rub the fur the wrong direction.” Suddenly, her eyes widen, and she gasps, then stares at you piteously, “Roarke, I...I just realized something. Don't hate me for forgetting this, alright?”“I'd never hate you!” You insist immediately. She smiles tenuously, “I...I'm really so dumb for not remembering, but...look, I always overlooked Major Cabot. I do that with desk staff, I didn't even know her name for the longest time, but she was there that day, sitting at her desk doing her nails. I remember because she glared at me. I just never made the connection, back then I didn't even think she could pilot.” She shakes her head violently, “Roarke...this...this is all my fault. I should have realized the person who killed Cassius wasn't necessarily the same one, but...everyone looks the same in a helmet!”[Continued]
>>1800432I think part of it may just be making a sort of unified 'name', but it makes me think about another mech. The Jovians apparently have dealt with a Paladin. The core of it was gone along with the pilot when the Avalonians went to recover it. Maybe.. part of what makes the Nightmare B so scary is it's Biocore? A specialized system that is Paladin unique, but improved with jovian engineering. That could be why the second was so different.

You're about to ask her for more details, when your danger sense strokes the back of your neck. You step aside...and one of the Iron Kestrels, their armor shredded as if they'd been hit by a cannon, finishes arcing through the air and slams into the ground where you were standing. You turn and see, at the edge of the field, a figure walking towards you.Casually. Alone. He seems utterly unhurried, wearing a long overcoat, buttoned tight, and top hat. More guns than you can count are immediately fixed on him, but with a flourish, he whips off his coat to reveal a long vest of small canisters, “Z-3 GAS!” He announces proudly, “Fire on me, and who knows how many of you will die?” He glances up at the starship shield flickering overhead, “...It may not even spread on the wind, so tell me, who wants to die today? Or are you going to listen to what I have to say?” He spots you, and grins affably. He has strong features a shade too brutal to be called handsome, and fair hair cut short to the scalp, visible as he doffs his cap and bows dramatically, “Roarke Susan Starwind, the so-called 'King of the Pirates'! Well, that's not a title you've earned, but on behalf of the REAL Pirate King, I've come here to extend my congratulations on your wedding day. After all, I am a gentleman!” “He's not going to detonate them, he'll die too! Stun batons!” A Martian bodyguard announces, and three of them charge him. The man in the suit sighs...and blurs into motion. His backhand sends the first bodyguard spinning around with his head facing the wrong way, an uppercut to the chin of the second makes his skull wobble in a way you're familiar with, disconnected from the spine. The third he simply grabs by the head with both arms, and twists, tossing the third corpse to the ground contemptuously. It's not the brutality of the motions that strike you, it's how casually he did that, as if he was simply wringing the neck of a chicken. As if he knew none of them could hurt him, that he was guaranteed to win.“Allow me to introduce myself, I am...”[Continued]

I came to congratulate you and your husband, usurper though hs is, upon your nuptials and-”“NON! YOU EEL! YOU ROACH! YOU ABANDONED POOR COUNTESS LORDE!” She reaches for her sword, but hesitates. He sighs, and rolls his eyes, “Really, as dramatic as always. You won't do it.” You look sharply at her, “Paladin?” You start forward, confused but certainly willing to brawl. She shakes her head vigorously, “Non. Do not get close! He is...not normal. No Paladin, but...zhat is because he refused le Lady's call.”“Not normal how?” You inquire.“Each of le first four Paladins trained two ozzers, but zhose are not zheir only students. Sir Jonathan, he is le strongest disciple of le Paladin Belegor. When le Gerard and mon Anseis were dispatched to face le superweapon of Jove, zhere was great confusion during le battle. Afterwards, le core and pilot of le Gerard were missing, and so was Sir Jonathan, who was her bodyguard, le first of le great knights to be accorded special striders zhat were not Paladins zhemselves.” “Ahem, I prefer simply to go by the moniker of 'the Gentleman', now. A name I was given in jest for the manners I learned in court, but one I have come to value. You really are being quite spoilt, my lady, you should be grateful to me. Your people wouldn't have had half the help they did if I hadn't convinced my newfound liege that they could, indeed, survive this war.”“'Your people', 'zhey'.” Her voice is cuttingly scornful and she tosses her hair contemptuously over her shoulder. “As if you were not born on Lorien! He shrugs, “I'm afraid, dear lady, you don't quite have room to talk on that account anymore, do you? As for the Countess, it's terribly sad. Countess Rebecca was a remarkably competent woman, quite admirable, but after I rescued her from her damaged Paladin and we made planetfall she gave me the slip and vanished. I never gave a second thought to finding someone who manifestly did not wish to be found. As for YOUR people, I am a student of the Void Fist Style, I have embraced the Empty Element. I have no people, no loyalties tied to blood, only those I forged for myself. Master Belegor is truly the greatest Paladin, but I fear his quest for strength has deceived him. This reliance on genetic modification, on machines...it's all so tiresome, thinking that these crutches can substitute for true personal power. I will transcend him, I will become the strongest disciple of Void and destroy all others and then I will return to him and we will see whose way is right through the most cultured debating style of all. Fisticuffs. See? Your husband is nodding.” He points. You shrug, “I do my arguing that way.”He smiles, it's a cheerful, rather infectious smile, “Jolly good! Sorry for the monologue, old chap, but...well, you understand, don't you? We're both similar enough, that way. Of course, as much as I would be thrilled to fight you, killing a man on his wedding day would put me off my feed. It's just not in good taste.”“Killing a man for interrupting my wedding with bloodshed would sit perfectly well with me, but then, I suppose I've been a pirate longer than you have. On the other hand, this is a new suit.”“Likewise, specially tailored for this occasion. Burberry & Burberry, of Luna.”You check the label on yours, “Damn. Same tailor.”“What positively capitol taste! See, it would be a shame. If you insist, of course, we can settle things here, but as I said, that isn't my goal.” He chuckles. His hands, you notice, are large even for his large frame, and the knuckles are heavily scarred and callused. Much like yours.“Then what is?” You look around, “You took an awful risk coming here.”He sighs heavily, “I'm afraid it's a combination of whim and petty spite, nothing grandiose. Meridian, one of my colleagues, has caused some mischief here and will doubtless cause more. I despise him, for he is everything I hate in one who is strong, and yet my King has forbidden us from fighting. I know that coming here to do naught but wish you a happy and fertile marriage, and to convey my King's greetings to one who dares claim his title, will gnaw at his cowardly steel belly like a starving rat, and that thought brings me joy. “Rebecca Lorde.” You say quietly to yourself. You have a good memory for names, and you've heard of a Rebecca, but you're sure there are plenty of Rebeccas out there, it can't be...“...She sabotaged the Jaburo!” General Hatsheput sputters.“Oh, her.” Mohammed shrugs, “She's the one who let me out of my cell. Pretty, but not my type, I prefer sweet to tart when it comes to women.” The General and Shukriya both vigorously ruffle his hair while he protests. You shake your head at him, and cut off Captain Beckingham, who clearly recognizes the name, before he can speak up. The fact that she's Bruce Kelly's woman could be useful, no need to go blathering it to everyone. Bruce isn't even here, the fact that he's even more of a criminal than most of your band, being a renegade Terran and all, made it wise for him to avoid an affair with so many military personnel present. That and his appalling manners, “Sir Gates, or if you prefer, Gentleman, I too am a student of the Void Fist.” No point in hiding THAT, you're proud of it, and it's shameful to hide your style before another practitioner. Or so you think. You've seen some kung-fu simflicks and it seems in-keeping with the genre.“I suspected as much for some time, Roarke Starwind.” He replies.“Let us test our strength through arm-wrestling. After all, combat isn't your aim, but now that you're here, I find myself hungering to test your mettle. Bring forth a table!” You call out, and some of the staff start hauling one of the picnic tables for the reception over.He bows deeply, “As much as my blood thrills at your challenge, I must decline. You have not faced another of your own style before, as I have. Master Belegor does not permit weak students, and those who were insufficient perished at my hands. I can tell you for a certainty that, while you are undoubtedly superior to those pathetic specimens, you are not considering what a clash between us at full strength would do. That table would become a cloud of lethal splinters that would blind or maim your guests the moment we became serious. Worse, if they pierced these capsules.” He lays a hand on his suicide vest.[Continued]

“Abomination.” Colonel Stern growls, clutching the handle of his sword.“...Is he joking?” Colonel Luxol asks Colonel Stern, who shakes his head, scowling. The Undefeated, apparently not someone the Gentleman recognizes, simply sits quietly through this, but gives Stern an amused look, “It's an abomination to adapt the style to a sword, as well.”You're terribly disappointed, but nod. It makes sense.“I promise you this, Roarke Starwind, I will not forget your gallantry. Ere long, I will see to it that our paths collide, somewhere where no one we care about can be harmed by our battle. Your guardsman should survive, I held back when I sent him flying, but these Saracens are dead, I fear. They came at me with weapons, it is to be expected.” He shrugs. Despite his manners, he's much too comfortable with casually killing guards at a wedding.“I'll hold you to it.” You promise. You mean it. Despite everything else, you're tempted to fight him right here and right now even with common sense holding you back.He turns, midway through leaving with a wave, “Of course. Oh, I almost forgot. If Meridian is still here, it's because he hasn't yet taken the person he came here for.”You frown, “A certain Duchess, perhaps?”He laughs, “No. Transferring someone from one place to another isn't the same as taking them. Which he explicitly told my King he was coming here to do. Keep a sharp eye out.” With that, he departs, “It would be ill-advised to follow me, prying eyes get torn out!”“Why didn't someone shoot him?” One of the dignitaries asks, sounding frustrated.“Because his suit is armored, the same as Roarke's, I picked his out myself.” Fatima sounds angry and disgusted, “He kept moving his hat around, lining up a clear headshot at that distance was impossible. All of that clowning, but he knew exactly what he was doing the whole time.”Red Siren sighs, then claps her hands, “Clean up the corpses." She shakes her head at the wave of muttering and the number of people balefully eyeing the Gentleman's retreating backs, "You're on a pirate colony, and they chose to attack him. Feel free to exercise your right to seek vengeance later." She smiles, but you can see how disconcerted she is and you're amazed she isn't shooting at him herself, "...Those of you who still have the stomach, enjoy your cake...after all, tonight is the concert, and all of the stars will be shining bright!”
>>1800732If he didn't have that vest on he would have been lit up like a Lunar yuletide tree with concentrated rifle fire. Melee attacks are more reliable because of the free called shots, but that's meleeing with someone who just snapped three men's necks for trying.

Likely missed some details, and who knows what else Fairchild dipped her hands into, but in terms of plans, I think this is all of them, plus her allies. So, let's start with Palley's World. Her strategy, while controversial and made her a slew of enemies, propelled her high in the ranks. She had Clemmy, Cabot, her little garden of Fleurs, and thanks to her betrayal, Rebecca and the core of a Paladin. She had good connections in the senate and megacorps, she had Rashad, her inheritance, and that prototype. Still, she was just a Major/Colonel then. Until her first operation in this massive train wreck; Assassinating the founder of SOUL. Using the Slayer and one of the two as the First Mate, she blames the attack on the pirates, goes to General to fill the gap, and proceeds to make it so that she is automatically the third tier General. Begins to make SOUL B and get the megacorps to work on better machines for her personal unit.Wanting to take control over both Mars and the Belt, she worked closely with Rashad and the Green Skulls. She gets a hold of the circlets, gives one to Rashad so he could use it on his future wife to get her lands and gain more control. Meanwhile, she handed over Suleiman 1 to the green skulls, alongside the Tarrasque while also using Rebecca to take care of groups like the Iron Kestrels. If the Green Skulls gained control of the belt, she could then proceed to take care of them and claim control of the area. With Rainy Morning and that Legislation, she could take control of any non civilian mechs, and do a military coup of the senate, getting control and a excuse to blame the Avalonians. She'd be the hero, have control over the government and military, with strong ties to the economy, have a leash on Mars, and be set as a Jovian Queen. And then things started to fall apart because Roarke didn't die.
>>1801714Can't bork the Roarke.
>>1802272You really can't. While it's not all Roarke's fault, he does ties into a lot of the issues once thing happen. If Fairchild gave Stern the order to go to Suleiman, Sammy wouldn't have gone to Roarke for help. In a way, due to our date with Sammy, we met Clemmy and wooed her. Clemmy makes the entire thing personal and causes a bunch of issues down the road. The Big one being the destruction of Suleiman 1 and blaming Roarke for it. It also leads to CCC trying to rescue Athena and her father and his fate.. which makes things much worse for her. She loses the goose that makes golden eggs and likely made it tougher for the Nightmare frame's creation. On the Martian side of things, if she didn't support Rashad's crazy scheme, Fatima and Lori would likely not have happened either. We would have no reason to go to Mars nor gain such fame or support from the Martians. The only real gain she made during this that she kept was the VietNyan War, and that was more in spite of the things she tried to do, like pushing the Squilla's construction forward and trying to hog the glory while also getting in the way.In short? She made things way too personal and focused way too much on us come Suleiman 1. She threw away allies left and right, people started to actively look at her shit, and people banded together. Sure she could have stuck around as a dictator if Rainy Morning succeeded, but she is out of moves now. If Mile's files doesn't get her for war crimes, the fact she tried to pull a coup/attack on the senate would.
Due to extenuating circumstances, I won't be able to run tomorrow. It's been a day of falling just slightly short of the mark, and getting Thursday night to myself was one of those things I couldn't quite do but almost did. Game will be Friday.
>>1802512in other words, shes fuckup supreme that brought all of her shit upon herself?that sucks.>>1802976see you friday wong.
>>1801714>>1802512Thinking like this, if it wasn't for Faichild being such an unrepentant cunt, Roarke wouldn't be where he is today. So thanks, Fairchild, you made Phaeton happen.
>>1803253>>1803276But wait, there's More! Fairchild not only helped Roarke, but Caesar as well. Thanks to Suleiman, Sammy was MIA and SOUL A was down a member. This put Caesar in the same squad as Naomi. By sending him to the Jaburo, he was able to figure out something was wrong with comms and prevented a war. Then comes Psyche where she gives Lysa full control of the situation. This costs her Big, because she loses 3 aces, 5 Soul machines, and her actions further cause issues with Lysa and the Fleurs, and puts Lysa in house arrest. Which ends up with us taking her and blowing up a section of the house with our fists. This likely gets Rosita closer with Lysa and could be a key influence in how the Duel went down. If not for her, Cabot would be stuck in bed and we would be facing a Pally.Which leads back to Caesar. Because she abandoned Rebecca, we were able to get a hold of that crucial evidence. Because she decided to use Amos' PoWs as weapons, Eustace goes to Titan with Caesar. Because Caesar went to titan, we found out about Rainy Morning and sent that to Miles.. who stopped that from happening. So yes. Roarke would not have his wives or his Nation, Caesar wouldn't be going off to Avalon and likely fixing the shit there, Lysa wouldn't drug her due to hating Cabot or seeing her aunt go nuts, and she wouldn't be on her way to getting smacked down by the combined forces of 3 nations. All she needs is a colony laser and she'd have went full Ghirin.
Things getting heated up huh
>>1803411She's a better villain than the Zabis at least.
>>1803411christ fairchild is a complete damn fuckup isn't she?
>>1804238She's been the Grand Champion of the Universal Foot Shooting Championship for the past Twenty years
>>1803411Honestly when you put it like that it's just sad. Not even Saturday morning cartoon villains are this inept when you strip down their actions to the bare facts. At worst each mistake is an isolated incident or they were already in such a position of power that it doesn't even matter if they fuck up, no one can stop them from trying again.
>>1804238>>1804274>>1804268I feel that's being uncharitable to Fairchild's plan. She would have succeeded if Rostke hadn't survived. That's really the only thing that fucked her over: Roarke not dying when he was supposed to. Every single one of her failures afterwards can be attributed to Roarke fucking her plans up. No wonder she hates him so much.
>>1804427He is a factor, but one of many. Caesar would still cause her issues and Amos would still rise in ranks. Her single minded focus, in of itself made things worse. Remember, she blamed Suleiman on him before his major achievements out of spite because he hit on Clemmy. If she had stopped chasing her personal Moby HoneyDick, a lot of resources could have been saved.Another issue, and I feel it's as equally important, is that she simply spread her plans too thin. Everything was connected to everything and there was spots that were just not safe. She had her hands in mars, jupiter, the belt, and various groups and you could see signs of one front being used for another with things like the green skull circlets. Likewise, one could have traced Rainy Morning to the prison colony, find out where PoWs go, and start figuring things out. There's even the Slayers. No, as easy as it would be to say no Roarke meant no problems, a break in the chain would have shown signs of something not being right. Jaburo was an example of this.
>>1804510The thing is, Caesar would have never had the chance to interfere with the Jaburo if Roarke had died. Irina would have never been assigned to Qu'lir if Roarke hadn't demolished the Pumpkinseed-II's on live TV which means Amos and SOUL-C would have probably been wiped out by the Gerin.
I just want to say- Fairchild does not seem the type to leave so much evedence. It could be fabricated- though I don't know by who.Wouldn't it be a good way to pick a fight to have such fabricated evidence leaked so that she has a reason to go after Roarke for 'attacking the public image of a officer' or something? Now I may have just gotten off a twenty-hour marathon session of Shadowrun but it seems like her kind of thing. In any case- when we inevitably get arrested I vote for breaking out via the 'DoomFist' method.
It just seems too easy to me. If Fairchild was going to go down so easily due to sloppiness she would have ceased to be a problem a long time ago.We know she's in some shady shit- but she's also made it this far despite that. There are suspicions but none of her many enemies have revealed anything they've found. All they seem to have is suspicions. That points towards Fairchild -or someone who works for her- being very good at cover-ups.That in turn makes the fact that so much evidence was found all at once feel off somehow. what is more likely- Fairchild -or whoever does cover ups for her- suddenly got sloppy, or she left behind that evidence on purpose?Plus we got the evidence from Ceaser who has embedded himself with the Avalonians. and that could out him.Either way we should be cautious in handling this.
>>1806053If she did this on purpose their would have to be a rat in not only our camp but Kirito's. I mean how else would she know he was going to Titan and upon that how would she know that Kirito would leak the info to a major player in Sol or that Roarke would find out? The most likely option is that we caught her with her pants down.
>>1806139There is also the time frame. Rainy Morning seemed like a pretty recent plan. Maybe a few months old, and this quest's in game time is about 6-9 months. While the Green Skulls, Mars, and other plans likely took years to prepare, this could have been a case of not having enough time. Rebecca was someone Fairchild thought was no longer a concern, and then she comes out of left field.Really, Rainy Morning didn't really feel like a incredibly deep plan. It probably wasn't suppose to be. With the senate not doing what she wants, this could have been a case of her flipping the chess board and declare that everyone will now play Fairchild Ball.Besides, I REALLY don't think Fairchild is in the right state of mind. She is either drunk, insane, both, or pulling a late era Brittany Spears.
>>1806158I think we're almost at two years of in game time since Wong said it was about a year when we started training with Master Asia.
>>1806165Don't think so. The battle with the Green skulls was 2-3 months. A year and a bit, perhaps. But not 2. Still, once Psyche happened, Fairchild's inner circle was shrinking swiftly. She also relied on more obvious means of silencing dissent around that time.
>>1806053The Titan facility was in the process of self-destruction when the Nightmare attacked it. I'm guessing they weren't able to finish up their mopup procedure.
It's really difficult to answer some of this speculation without spoilers or without biasing the conversation in one direction or another due to putting too much emphasis on certain of the many small events that have put Fairchild in this boat, but...it's very true that most of it comes from Roarke Starwind failing to die. Even a chess grandmaster capable of thinking a dozen moves in advance can get shattered if a piece they thought was gone is suddenly back on the board. Oda's good, but his original mech was just a customized Morgan II, and the Green Skulls throwing swarms of Harpies into the meatgrinder of Red Siren suited Fairchild's needs just fine. Her intelligence would have reported, accurately, that the Storm Dragons and Red Siren wouldn't work together (and you remember Red Siren's reaction when Oda first showed up at her colony), so the Green Skulls would have had an easy time with them. Her next concern would have been the members of Five Man Band, and Roarke's persistence kept her from diverting her resources to crushing them. However, Roarke Starwind isn't her only problem. She's had a lot of time to develop enemies. Her way of doing things does that, and while she's killed many of them, there are some she's failed to get or can't reach. For instance, she inherits SOUL and Colonel Stern is right there. She can't just kill him off, he's too useful and it's known at certain levels of the military and government who he really is, there would be too much scrutiny. Getting him too close to what she's doing is dangerous, so she has to keep him isolated and well away from her...until the point where political pressure and the need for skilled aces makes that impossible. Even if he's not actively opposing her, he's a big boulder parked right in the way of her schemes that has to be worked around. Five Man Band is also a big, and underrated one, you might notice that once they got involved suddenly she was getting outmaneuvered a lot more frequently, because her enemies abruptly had access to information and logistics they didn't have before, it put her on her heels. Then there's Regina Hatsheput and what she represents of the UJCIDF factions outside of SOUL.
>>1806019pfft, we can't be arrested. we are a king and can (and probably will) claim diplomatic immunity
S-Pop still isn't your genre, but you have to admit that this is one of Red Siren's best concerts. You were worried, she's never shared the stage before and she confessed to you privately on her way to go change into her costume that she was worried about Lysa, specifically, “She sounded...off...when I heard her practicing this morning. Troubled, like her usual spunk was gone.” Still, once they both got on stage, things went swimmingly. Each of them did duet versions of some of their classic songs, plus the debut of Red Siren's new album, Wolf Girl. Their costumes have an interesting contrast, too. Lysa Fleur is done up as an innocent princess in white and pink, while Rosita dresses like a seductive and wicked queen in black and red. You're sitting with some of the other top dignitaries there. Not so much by choice, you want to sit with your wives and crew, and you do at least have Fatima and your top officers with you, but because protocol demands you stay with them and be a good host. “...So, this is everything.” You finish transferring the file to Regina Hatsheput, and as an extra precaution, to Colonel Stern and Colonel Trevor Luxol. The three of them nod. Stern looks gravely at Asim, “Anything to say?” He seems a little annoyed that Martians are overhearing Jovian internal drama.“Simply that my faith in our alliance is strengthened by this quick resolution.” The Martian shrugs.Luxol pages through it, and whistles, “And this was gathered by...?”“A source.” You respond, politely. He looks you directly in the eye. You never really paid much mind to Colonel Luxol before, he seemed like a bit of a dandy, and being the Chairman's son you assumed he wasn't much but a messenger with a fancy uniform, “Besides those SOUL members who defected...for their own reasons...to your nation, there remains the matter of two who are missing. Did you know that, officially, Heinrich Merrow is on a secret mission assigned by General Fairchild? Some have speculated that this is a front for losing him, to you, or to someone...less palatable.”“Deep cover might be required whether she assigned it or not.” You won't be baited, adjusting your shades. “This same source provided the information that led to one of my officers alerting your government to the threat they have, hopefully, neutralized by now.” [Continued]
>>1806139Why does everyone assume Fairchild is the mastermind and isn't working for someone else? It makes me think that In response to >>1806158 concerns this might actually be a play to turn on her sponsor if he's in the Senate and expose him so she can tell people she was just a soldier following orders while regaining some political capital as the person who revealed corruption and conspiracy in the Senate. It would also shake faith in the Government which is soon to be putting her on trial. Scapegoating has worked for a before.Coups have to have some legitimacy and she doesn't have the widespread military support to force one, not to mention the issue of Mars and The Belt reacting or the war with Avalon. I personally think that her target isn't the Senate but definitely is IN the Senate for sure, and that we should really try to prevent her from dying in a dramatic fashion during a "failed coup" as the mastermind behind it all.
>>1807529I almost want to invite Keith to the VIP seating since his GF is sharing the stage with our Wife and I assume they're the best seats in the House Also in the hopes that he would talk shit about us and have everyone smack him down for it.I almost want to invite him.
>>1807614Eh fuck Keith, if we see his head in the crowd we should throw popcorn at him.>>1807612If anyone is holding her leash its the corps that backed her ascension.
>>1807621The phrase is "giving him enough rope to hang himself". Or alternatively, "Giving salt to your enemy". Nothing more grating then someone you dislike intrinsically being generous to you and looking good because of it in front of your Boss(es). And Fairchild might have gotten Corp support because of her handler. Or there's Corp bought Senators she plans to use against them. Or Earth working through corrupt members of the Senate is her secret backer.
>>1807646I'd rather just be an asshole.
>>1807710Depends how much I like or dislike someone.
>>1807646Eh, I could care less for Keith. Considering what we are talking about with the higher ups, this is the sort of thing we really don't need him being a pain.Let him geek out in the front row, wearing a stupid 'I heart Lysa' shirt. As for Fairchild? I think you forget how ambitious Fairchild is and how desperate she is right now. She had made a good amount of soul, with it's MP SOUL machines her personal army. A coup is possible, especially if she just rushed in as the hero to save jupiter from Avalonian assassins. As for someone controlling her? Was likely a mutually beneficial agreement. Fairchild's mom did have connections, and with what results Fairchild initially had, she likely was a sure bet. But now the bet is risky, and the smart investor would pull out.
Having a million errors trying to post, sorry. First my internet died, then my laptop overheated, and when it restarted firefox wanted to update, and NOW 4chan isn't playing nice with my posts.
Naturally, there's a level of noise and light that makes your conversation relatively private. Red Siren, of course, took care to install a massive stadium for her performances, and that's where you are now, surrounded by her fans.“We'll look into this.” General Hatsheput assures you. “For now, I think we should all relax, and enjoy the concert. Congratulations, Roarke! Isn't it splendid that he finally got married, everybody? I feel bad for all of those impressionable young women out there who will be disappointed, but he's earned it.” She smiles sunnily. “Mmm, I think it's not just the impressionable, young women with a reason to be unhappy right now.” Trevor Luxol looks up at one of the stadium's upper balconies with a tsk, “The nerve of that woman...”“...Seems frayed and on the verge of snapping.” Asim comments. You look too. You almost don't recognize her. Despite the fact that she's as old as Colonel Stern, General Hermione Fairchild has always had a sort of ageless good looks, any work she's had done to hide her age has been very subtle. The woman you see up there, however...is old. She's leaning on the arm of a pretty young secretary who's wearing a deliberately tolerant smile and snapping pictures of the event with her PC. There's a cane in her other hand, and her stride is limping and wobbly. She's abandoned the space queen-esque uniform she's worn for other formal occasions for the more comfortable, simple blacks she wears for non-formal occasions, which you've mostly seen over vidcomms. Her hair is disheveled, its spidery strands creating an impression of some mythical hag, the pink looking less lustrous and more like strawberry blonde fading to grey. The true horror, though, is her face. The pride that once held it taut and firm is gone, and without it, it sags with despair. Her cheeks and the flesh beneath her eyes are puffy and blotched red, and her eyes glitter more like polished stones than living, seeing orbs. That baleful gaze meets yours, and for just a moment, her face is her own again, the sheer hatred in her expression hitting you like a fist in the chest. It's like staring down a dragon as it inhales, but this is one you've already slain, and already you can see it bleeding out. She turns away with a shudder, and you don't need to be a mind-reader to guess that she might be hearing Bethany Cabot's last cries. “Cotton candy, sir? It's very good, and complimentary for you.” A passing vendor offers you a sugary confection, but you wave it off.“No thank you, too much wedding cake earlier.”“I'll take one.” Trevor raises his hand, and the vendor hastily puts back the one he was offering you and reaches for another one.“That's funny, I didn't know this show would have Harpies. I thought she only used backup dancers in mecha for her space shows.” Regina looks upward.[Continued]
>>1807749>and the vendor hastily puts back the one he was offering you and reaches for another oneCALL HIM OUT ON IT
“Well, of course, if something went wrong it would be a disaster, the reason she only used the Archen for the intro is because Lysa doesn't have a mech agile enough to dance with it.” You reply, “It's probably passing through.”“That you know of. Some of SOUL's newer mecha could waltz with it, I'll wager. My Lionfish wasn't built for it, but...” Colonel Stern's head snaps upward, “...It's getting awfully close. Something is wrong.”You see Fairchild abruptly stand up, whispering sharply in her secretary's ear, and yank impatiently on the woman's arm. The aide rolls her eyes, tosses her auburn hair, and stands up with a pouty frown. The two exit together, the General limping and leaning on her cane, her stride wobbly. The hair on the back of your neck stands up......and then, the entire arena shakes as one of Red Siren's Harpies lands on the field between the audience and the performers, heat shimmering off the power cells of its light cannon and boarding drill as it exits jet form, its arrowhead-shaped body blocking out the light. It swivels its head back and forth, then settles on you.>[Call for backup]>[Deal with this yourself]

Hold up, hold up, I'm redoing this vote. I fucked up in describing what the choices mean. It's not "be reckless while confronting the Harpy versus be cautious while confronting the Harpy".Calling for backup means running away with everyone else and calling in mecha to help rather than deal with it personally. Those mecha are not currently here.Dealing with it yourself means you punch the Harpy to death in front of a crowd of people. There is a chance of tragedy to YOU if you fuck up the dice badly enough. There are emergency evacuation procedures already in place for the civilians and you wouldn't personally order something like that anyway, there are other people here whose job it is to go "oh shit conditions are unsafe better hit the alarms."

“Get as many people as you can out of here.” You instruct your guests.“Darling, what are you doing?” Fatima asks sharply.“What I do. I love you.” You kiss her, stand up...and grab the cotton candy vendor by the back of the collar and throw him to Colonel Luxol, “Arrest him, get a chemical analysis of the one he offered me when you have time.”You see Rosita and Lysa leaving the stage, Rosita speaking into her headset, and the sight of her confirms your decision. The Harpy is ignoring the singers, and if it's here for you, running with the crowd will just draw its fire towards civilians. If it wants you, it will have you, and find out swiftly that you are a most unpalatable morsel. Some people would run away regardless, they would insist that they were being reasonable and logical and that it's a mech versus a human being. Those people are cowards. As you make your way through the surging tide of humanity like a shark through minnows, you become aware of a determined, dark-skinned face in your peripheral vision. “I am not leaving you, Roarke Susan Starwind.” Fatima warns you stubbornly, “Whatever insane act of bravery you are doing to protect your crew, I am NOT going to leave you alone.”“But...” You try to explain to her that you have an advantage from your training with the Undefeated.“No buts!” She interrupts sharply, her voice hinting that her brave facade is actually rather close to tears, “As romantically tragic as this is, I am fine with it! I am your wife, Roarke Starwind, and you are my husband! If we perish, we perish together!” She gives you a brave smile, “Once you kidnapped me, I stayed kidnapped. I won't live without you.”An idea strikes. She won't leave, but she doesn't have to be underfoot, either. There's an office on an upper level that controls the sound coming out of the speakers, “...But I need a beat.”She stares as if you've gone well and truly mad, “A...a beat?” You nod firmly, “A beat. Give me some music.” You point, “Go there and put on...” You whip out your PC and hand it to her, “My soundtrack, put on The Touch by Stan Bush. Go! Hurry! With it, I can win!”“Best beloved! If...if you don't come back...” Her fists tremble with rage, “If you leave me a widow on my special day, and possibly a mother on top of that, I will never, ever forgive you. Ever!” You walk ahead as she falls behind, smiling back at her, “Then I guess I'll just have to win.”>[Roll 1d10+20]

>>1807983No, thats what you see the character as. We have had this conversation before. We will likely have it again.
>>1807983I haven't had any problem with any other decision to fight in the whole quest but this is just dumb.>>1807986Then just jump away from him, pretty sure roarke cant run 300 meters a turn.
>>1808002but roarke is brave until the point of stupidity.remember the assault on mars?and then when we fought loriette even with an almost perfored reactor?the assault on the tarrasque?the attacke on psyche 16?hell, even characters in the quest have told us so.
>>1808002Roarke almost had his powerplant explode and ended up going out to solo an enemy super ace with an exposed powerplant a couple of hours later.
>>1808011Think our action gave us the surprise round. Guy was likely banking on us running. Incidentally, I would recommend destroying the cockpit while the guy is still in there so he can't try shit on us.>>1808016We went to Mars with a plan, back up, and a bevy of the Belt's best aces. The core was patched up, and we would likely had have to face her if we wanted to safely get our haul, while also showing the other crews who's boss. We were in no real danger. The tarrasque also had a plan and worked quite well. We also had back up there.Psyche had Multiple plans, back up, and us working with multiple teams. We are frightening, but not stupid.
>>1808011If you were in a giant robot and a man approached you, on foot, with his bare hands, would your first instinct be "this man is going to tear me apart" or "this man is leaving the crowd so only he gets killed because he has a reputation as a noble pirate"? More importantly...would your go-to strategy as a person in a mech fighting a person with no mech be to kite them when his wives and crew and friends are all running to mecha that can crush yours? Your whole strategy relies on metagaming.
>>1808033If I was in a mech shooting at a crowd of people and I saw a dude on foot running at me I would assume he was about to pull some bullshit. Like grapple hooking up to my cockpit or suicide bombing me or something. If I saw roarke running at me on foot I would assume he was going to attempt to punch me somehow because thats how he solves literally every problem.
>>1808040>because thats how he solves literally every problemThen why are you arguing that he isn't a brash person with a weakness for being fool hardy?
>>1808040Of course in real life I would just shoot at them or try to run them over but real life doesn't have such bad aim penalties.
>>1808040Either way, it's that split moment that can decide a fight. Either due to being cocky(because this guy is Named Ace tier with that 19) or just not thinking fast enough, we got the surprise on him and messed him up.
>>1808046So your decision is entirely based on...aim penalties, which you as a player know about, but if this was real life, which to the pilot of the Harpy it is, you would do exactly what they're doing?
>>1808045Because there is a limit to everything and I believe we shouldn't make a habit of punching mechs just because its physically possible. We'll eventually try it on someone who is packing something that can easily fuck us up. >>1808056In his real life presumably people cant reliably step on ants so it should be something to take into consideration. Even in the real world where people cant punch houses down people in tanks wouldn't let someone just run up to them. Thats how you get a Molotov in your air vent.
>>1808070And as mentioned before, surprise round. Now can we please continue with this Quest based on a pen and paper game and giant robots so we may enjoy this moment?
>>1808079It just strikes me as showing off for the sake of showing off.
>>1808085Isn't that the soul of Mecha as a genre?Like the idea of piloting robots instead of literally any other easier, cheaper and more effective alternative by real-life standards is because it looks cool to have a giant robot.
>>1808085When the only other option involves letting someone in a giant mech do as he pleases for several minutes, yeah I'd rather try and show off too.
>>1808070Show me an ant with Void Fist. Serious question, are you the same person who's been showing up to troll the last few threads bitching about cryptofascists and other random stuff?
>>1808093Wong, please stop feeding the trolls and finish writing. I gotta go to bed soon.
>>1808085then read the posts wong has posted. The only reason that roarke is fighting the harpy is becausethe harpy is going to wreck shit (or worse, people)he is on site right nowand he is capable of destroying a mecha with his fists.it's like saying that someone who shot an attacker in self defence did it to show off.
>>1808093>Show me an ant with Void FistBullet Ants?
The instrumentals kick on as your feet hit the field. The Harpy seems to be waiting for you, deliberately not firing on the civilians. You appreciate that, honestly. You wonder how someone got their hands on one of Red Siren's Harpies...but you have your suspicions about who might be piloting that mech.Which are quickly confirmed. Harpies are small, but rather ungainly, only their sheer light weight keeps them agile. You know that, you've been flying one for almost ten years, and the Knuckle Kaiser still has bits of your original Harpy Custom in it. It dances forward as you break from the crowd, holding its drill low and raking it along the ground, clearly intending to erase you with a single blow. The powerful weapon, meant to punch through mech-scale armor, sends dirt and bits of grass flying around it like a tornado in all directions. So you adjust your shades, making sure your eyes are covered as you stroll forward. You hold your hands up casually, so they can see you're unarmed. They don't appear to be in a mood for mercy, as the long, slender drill sweeps towards you...so you feel no obligation to go easy on them too.The instrumentals kick up, and so do your spirits. You raise your arms higher, and the drill sweeps closer and closer. Pulverized soil ruins your suit, but suits can be cleaned or replaced. Grass whips by, stinging your cheeks.'You got the touch!' Stan Bush echoes through the arena. You wave your arms and Fatima obligingly cranks up the volume so you can hear it over the sound of the oncoming drill. Each step of the Harpy makes the ground shake. It's funny, they look so much smaller from the inside, 'You got the pooooweeeeer!' The guitars kick on as the Harpy pulls the drill out of the ground and stabs it towards you, but it's miles too slow, and you're already in motion. The shockwave of the drill roars over your head as you duck low and slip it. In less than a heartbeat you're between its legs, grabbing a rail on the back of its thigh, swinging yourself up...and you spot a few very familiar panels common to the Sparrow chassis all 'standard' Harpies are built on. Your fists crush through the metal with boulder-smashing force, grabbing bundles of cable and tearing them out. The Harpy's motions come to a complete stop, and it staggers under its own momentum and begins to fall, face-first, as the powerplant stops providing it with the electricity it needs to move. 'YEAH!'You, though, leap into the air, and as its chin hits the soil you put your fist through the canopy of its head-based cockpit so hard that the armor splinters and glassteel shards fly through the air like the feathers of a lost angel. You reach through the gap and grab the pilot's arm before they can hit the eject, and pull, hard, dragging them out and smacking the gun out of their hand. It takes effort not to remove their head with the force of your punishing backhand, which knocks the pilot's helmet off.[Continued]
>>1808092We really need to sort out our security team. Those guys have been dropping the ball lately>>1808093No I dont give a shit about that stuff. I dont even know what a cryptofascists is supposed to be. Also ants make void fist look lame.>>1808102Absolutely no one would talk shit about roarke for not going one on one with a giant robot. I dont see stern out here with his sword to fight it.
>>1808111Part of it is going to be not letting any Tom, Dick, or Harry that shows up getting to join the crew.
>>1808142but they look like honest guys! what could possibly go wrong?
>>1808173Honest looking guys signing on to be a pirate is probably a bit suspicious.
“HUZZAH!” Proclaims Sir Magnarus, who has been sitting in the front row the entire time, eating popcorn. He doesn't seem bothered at all by any of this. “A hit! A hit!”Rebecca Lorde, Bruce Kelly's woman, stares up at you with a bloody nose and eyes full of tears. “Why?” You ask, simply.“Roarke, mate!” Speaking of the devil, you see Bruce shoving his way through the crowd, his knife between his teeth, “Oi, fuckoff you cunts. Roarke! Put my cunt down, you cunt!”She looks at him, and you see the terror crystalize into resolve. She grabs for the dropped gun, and you stomp down hard on it, the bullet discharging into the dirt. “Why?” You ask again, “You were under my protection, both of you.”Her lower lip trembles, “I...I did it for...”“OI!” Bruce's knife is in his hand, and his eyes are those of a beast, “WON'T TELL YOU AGAIN, MATE! WHAT IS THIS!?”“She attacked the concert in that.” You jerk your thumb towards the destroyed Harpy.“For...for Avalo-” Her words drip like blood from her lips.“Oi! Don't you start lying too, sheilah!” Bruce roars, “Fucking cunts the both of yah! You told me you never wanted to go back! That you learned the true history of the War and couldn't work for a veggie woman!”“I lie-” She starts defiantly.“NAH CUNT YAH DIDN'T.” He bellows. Her chest heaves with indignation, “W-WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO, BRUCE!? IF I DON'T KILL HIM, THEY'LL KILL YOU! SHE PROMISED IT! SHE SAID SHE KNEW YOU WERE HERE AND...AND IF I DIDN'T DO HER ONE LAST FAVOR...” Her voice drops from a shout to a tired, defeated voice, “No, it's over, there's nothing we can do anymore. He can't protect us from Terra, Bruce, nobody can. Maybe SHE could have, she had the contacts to, but that's not going to happen now, is it?” She glares defiantly at you, “You'd do the same for someone you loved, wouldn't you? A few squads of mecha crashing a wedding, a Harpy at a concert...there's not much difference, is there?”>[What say/do?]
>>1808187I FUCKING KNEW ITREBECCA ISN'T THE SECOND THIRD MATE!IT'S THE FUCKING ENGINEER GIRL!
>>1808199>SECOND THIRDsecond first mate, rather.
>>1808199i'm still rooting for a rouge ai/construct/golem/ whatever.
>>1808187Kill her dead. Disgusting cryptofascist veggie lover. I'm joking. You'd think she would have tried for something bigger than a harpy if she wanted to kill us though
>>1808187Fffff.. this is turning into a real mess. Something is not adding up and it could be that engineer. As for Rebecca, Fairchild likely manipulated you to get you to attack us so she could blame it on Avalon. We will figure out the Terran situation later, but as is, Fairchild is getting away and we WILL figure out if she was bullshitting or not from her own mouth. she has a LOT to answer for.
>>1808187"Later, you're going to tell me everything."
>>1808210>>1808187This works, but for now throw her in the brig,
>>1808204Ironically what you were saying earlier was right, security was a problem with the Kestrels expanding so rapidly, but as it improved and you started having dedicated personnel assigned to it it improved, hence indirect attacks like using people you already trusted or who were already on Auditorium.
>>1808217but what about kelly? i don't think he will react in a reasonable manner
>>1808187>Throw this cunt back to Bruce. We are so talking after this.
>>1808224He'll deal with it, she just tried to assassinate us. The fact her head isn't flying off right now is because of him.
>>1808208People, stop forgetting that Biggs is out there with in contact with the Five Man Band.
>>1808224We can get him geared up and prepped himself. If he wants to protect her, then both of them are keeping in contact with us. We need information, and unless she can summon Terrans in a hour, Fairchild is doing nothing. Either way, both of them are getting some security and they BOTH are going to explain things after wards.
>>1808208Here's the thing, take a look at these excerpts from when Caesar encountered the second Nightmare.>“Eh, the outer armor of a mech is just shaped plating. It was stuffed with almost ordinary technology, really. Oh, right, this is our first real meeting, isn't it? I'm pretty sure I recognize you, you little shit. Not such a smart-mouth now, are you?” She's incredibly knowledgeable about mechs and their inner workings, and is familiar with, and has a severe dislike, of Caesar.>“I haven't even told that many lies. Oh, a few to ol' Roarke, but...that's because he's a stinking pirate, and honestly, don't they deserve to be lied to? I've never directly lied to him face-to-face, I think. I mean, I could've probably stopped his brother dying, but I didn't. I enjoyed it. So when you think about it that way, I REALLY DID KILL HIM!” The Nightmare fistpumps gleefully, “Hooray for me!” Shows that she was there when Cassius died, and possible could have saved him. Remember, Cassius died in a hanger trying to rescue Doctor Clancy, the only other people in there would have been Engineers. It just adds up too well.
>>1808251So she is like a evil Dave from Engineering.
>>1808251>First tried to get into Jesus's pants and did until he dropped her for Lysa>Then went and tried to seduce Caesar.Maybe she was put into going out with Jesus so Fairy could make sure she had him on a leash considering his love of justice, and then Jesus being Jesus dumped her for Lacus (either out of dumb luck or Haman putting Lacus up to it so she could use engineer to keep and eye on Caesar).
>>1808256Dave is like Rock Lee, even in a universe where things are reversed, he's still the same.
So the consensus is that you're not killing her and will interrogate her thoroughly later...and she's going in a cell, partially for her own protection. What are your immediate Things To Do?
>>1808260Would make sense, especially since Jesus is apparently part of some super important family.
>>1808266Immediate press conference announcing its safe to return to the show followed by doing a duet with Rosita as apology for interrupting the show,
>>1808266Status report. We need to know what else is going on and if that candy punk is secured. Head to the Kaiser if we get nothing from the others, and get someone to tell us where Fairchild and her attendant are.We need to know what the hell is going on and figure out where to hit.
>>1808266Tell Bruce that he can go with his cunt to a cell and call security. Also say to the public it was all a show and they should continue enjoy the consert. Then we grab Miles and our security chief and start interogating Bruces cunt. Oh he can stay by her side of course.
>>1808274>>1808271I'd say do these if there is a all clear and Fairchild returns. Remember, she is leaving the scene after we just got info about her trying to get us killed. We do not let her get away. Celebrations come after.
Continuing the concert today is going to be difficult for unrelated reasons.
>>1808295In game or out of game?
>>1808295When will we continue then?
>>1808295Not a problem more vacation time to Lyra. Althought that means that Jesus will be comming to visit...shit.
“Bruce, remember that time you nearly took my head off with your knife?” You ask, rhetorically.“Fuckin' do it again ya cunt if ya don't step off.” He threatens.“I'm sparing her because I respect that. You're a First Mate in one of my crews, as far as I'm concerned the two of you are family. I have a lot of people who need to have their skulls crushed, but you two aren't on that list. You. You'll be confined to a cell. We'll work this out later, but you are going to tell me absolutely everything.” You point at Rebecca.“But...” Rebecca tries to interject.“No. No 'buts', no 'you can't protect me from this terrible evil', whatever it is, I'll do to it what I did to that Harpy. Just...be quiet.” You sigh. There's a strange sound in the background, and you're so rattled it takes you a moment to identify what it is. Cheering.Oh, right, it's only been a minute or so since there was a concert going on, and despite all of the exits there were still people leaving the arena. Hundreds of them, at least. Hundreds of them who just saw you destroy a mech barehanded, “Bruce, go with her. She needs you. If Fairchild is involved...well, she wouldn't be the first person.”You reach for your PC, and swear as you realize you left it with Fatima...only to grin with relief as you see her running towards you now that the situation is resolved. “Darling, you're alright!” She kisses your cheek, and you kiss hers, taking back your PC.You promptly use it to contact your security team, “Basil, talk to me.”“We're sending a squad to inspect the Harpy for bombs, sah. The confectionary vendor is in custody, the second we slapped cuffs on the blighter he started babbling, don't think he's a hardened criminal, sah, told us right away that he's been on Auditorium for a decade, but his father's in a prison camp for investment fraud and that someone claiming to have a lot of pull in the UJCIDF threatened to make his pa's life short and uncomfortable if he didn't comply. Amateur work, sah, must have been a rush job. You probably would have tasted the poison in time to vomit it up. Want us to offer him a deal if he agrees to talk to a Jovian court?” Basil Montgomery crisply replies. >[Yes]>[No]A lot of Bluegills in Iron Kestrel colors are hovering around the stadium suddenly, “...By Jove! I was right to send for medical assistance!” Basil swears abruptly.“But no one's hu-” You turn and look around and your remark dies in your throat. There is no fallen debris that could have caused this. The Harpy never fired a shot, and their reliance on melee makes sense considering the pilot's circumstances and the fact they likely didn't want to hurt anyone else, so you weren't really looking, and yet...huddled against the first row of seats behind the stage, in the shadows, is a pink-haired figure in a fancy costume lying in a pool of blood, like a songbird struck by a slingstone, its voice silenced.
>>1808319>>[Yes]>pink-haired figure in a fancy costume lying in a pool of bloodwelp.
>>1808319>>[Yes]Holy fucking shit Fairy killed Lysa for drugging her.
>>1808319Oooooh, Fairchild you devious cunt. Guess it wasn't hard to figure out who drugged you, but you have to know you're not making it out with all of your limbs intact, now.
>>1808334is Kieth gonna go Full Nuclear?
>>1808339i think the question is:will he be an idiot and try to blame it on us?
>>1808339Keith is gonna fucking lose it and probably blame us.
>>1808319>>[Yes]Please don't be Rosita.. or Lysa not being dead.
>>1808339Keith, Siren, Roarke, pretty much everyone who has a nuclear option and liked/had gotten to tolerate Lysa will want a Fairy souvenir all their own, methinks.
...You guys do remember Rosita has pink hair too, right?
>>1808358Fuck, wasn't it red?well, Fairchild will never leave Auditorium then.
>>1808358Rosita confirmed ded.time for Roarke to punch her spaceship to death.
>>1808358Yes...but Roarke would have freaked out much much worse if it was Rosita and would have said something about china girl rather than songbird. Let me live my lie for at least a little bit.
also, its time to fuck up whoever was in charge of security
>>1808358I'm sure her hair was more crimson red than pink...Right? Also Magnarus doesn't give a shit!
>>1808364Man this is gonna get REALLY BAD if its Red since Roarke will fly into a blind rage and v max the Kaiser. He'll probably end up killing whoever gets in his way he'll be so out of it.
>>1808319Why would you do this to us with no chance for us to stop it. This is why PCs are usually Orphans who don't marry.
>>1808381There are events you really can't stop in real life. If it is Rosita who died it something that's been built up through dozens of separate events leading us to this point that have already happened.
>>1808381To be fair if you go around stick your dick in every bodies porridge and talking about how big you are you should expect some sort of comeback. Especially something like this since they cant just go and beat you in a fight.
Eh, I don't buy it being Rosita. She's a veteran pirate, the ruler of an entire colony and one of the most well-known figures in the solar system, it's absolutely guaranteed she's survived and dealt with dedicated assassination attempts before. It would be the equivalent of Roarke dying in a barfight.Wong is probably just fucking with us, as he tends to do.
>>1808381well, wong said he had planned something like this in mind if we hadn't snatched clemmy out of fairy's hands way in the beginning. I suppose we could have done something to avoid this, but we simply didn't because it never passed trough our minds.
>>1808401Alexander the Great died from a flu on the way back to Greece. Anything can happen to anybody anon.
>>1808401Now he really will do it out of spite
>>1808404A flu that nobody could do anything to prevent or prepare for in an age that didn't possess advanced medical knowledge is a vastly different case to an assassination attempt on someone who has doubtlessly survived, dealt with, and performed countless similar acts. That's like saying someone slipping on ice and cracking their skull open because they weren't looking is the equivalent of being in the flash radius of a nuke being dropped.
>>1808393>>1808390Doing it in a quest without player involvement of some sort is just cheap drama though.I guess it could be a set up for some sort of "hard choice" coming up where Avalon offers to heal her or something. But there's no way we would ever say yes so the outcome is the same.Maybe it's Lysa faking her own death until Fairchild is dealt with.
>>1808401Oh no when have I ever done that
>>1808413Or we can wait until we know who it is before jumping to conclusions. Whomever it is could still be alive, just like how Mako survived a crucification. Us being here likely saved her life.
>>1808411You can prepare all you want but things can still happen, one lucky shot is all it really takes.>>1808413Was killing Cassius cheap drama?
>>1808319By Jove I missed alot tonight
>>1808420that and Basil calling the medics
>>1808419I RECOGNIZE THAT SMUG
>>1808413Except it happened because of our involvement when we went around pissing people off as hard as we possibly could.
>>1808411well, there is a saying that you only need to be lucky once if you want to kill somebody or something like that.
>>1808427Power Level Anon.Dont show it.
>>1808433Fuck you.My power level shall be transcendent to the point that even God will recognize it's glory.
>>1808439Don't forget to wear a nice shirt
You see pink hair and red cloth and your heart nearly stops. For just a moment, you're so angry that the world around you seems to shimmer like a heat wave....Which is promptly the moment that you get a call, Rosita's cheerfully risque contact picture popping up. You answer reflexively, “Archen inbound, darling, don't you worry about a thing. Are you alright? I expect you are, I don't imagine a Harpy frightens you...so if you're not too busy, could you take a look around and tell if you see Lysa anywhere?” She tuts loudly, “She was just a step behind me! Honestly, that girl!”“I think she's been shot.” You tell her. You're not sure how to feel. On the one hand, as much as she managed to annoy you sometimes, she didn't deserve this. You're still angry. Incredibly angry. On the other hand, it wasn't your China Girl.If she got hurt, you don't know what you'd do. You do know what you wouldn't do, which is let anyone remotely responsible keep their limbs. “Shot!? On my way, darling!” Rosita hangs up. You switch back over to Basil as you hurry over to Lysa...and a meteor in a cyan uniform bolts past you.“LYSA!” The sheer, raw grief and pain in that voice tears at your heart, and for once in your life, you feel sympathy for Ensign Young, “Lysa, I'm sorry...I'm so sorry...” His entire body bows with grief. She stirs, her bloodstained hair hanging over her face as she smiles up at him, “K-Keith?” She reaches out, trembling fingers leaving streaks of red on his cheek, “It...it's alright, Keith. I promised, remember? I'll always protect you.”“Starwind...” Keith growls. You're in no mood for this bullshit even if you're a bit sympathetic, “It wasn't me.”He stares at you, “...I know that. Of course it wasn't you. You're the last person I'd suspect. It's not your method and you have no reason to do it, don't be so egotistical. I just want to know if you saw who did this.”You just stare back at him in shock at hearing common sense from his mouth. He rips open the front of Lysa's dress, “Hold still, I heard there was some kind of attack and grabbed a first-aid kit. UJCIDF protocol states that knowledge of basic medicine is a requirement for SERIOUS officers concerned with readiness in the field...” He snaps open the small, flat box dangling from a strap on his shoulder, “Alright, this should numb the pain and slow the bleeding, the real medics should be here any moment...hang on, Lysa, you're stronger than this. Remember what you are. Remember that the Lord has a plan for us. What's one little bullet?” His voice is shaky as he sets to work. “N-not enough?” She says with a smile. He smiles back, “That's right, not enough. Just hang on. Hang on. Look at me, don't close your eyes...” “A-Aunt.” She mutters. “A-All my fault...I guess...I guess I really can't do anything right, can I?”>[Ask questions]>[Not now]
>>1808425Clearing the field of enemy combatants and preventing collateral helps. Still, this is one reckless plan. Still.. if there is one song bird, where is the other?
>>1808459>[Not now]You can stay alive. The rest can wait till you're stabilized, you just focus on that. Jove only knows what'd happen to Jesus, here, if you weren't trying your damnedest to put sense in his head...despite his best efforts.
>>1808459>[Not now]Help Jesus with first aid the best we can
>>1808459>[Ask questions]Keith, where is Fairchild?Make sure Lysa is stabilized. We have a lot to talk about once things are better. We need to get moving once they are secure. The shooter couldn't be Meridian if he's a swordsman.
>>1808459>[Not now]The choice sums it up, really.
>>1808459>>[Not now]Leave them be
>>1808479Don't ask Keith, let him focus on performing First Aid...but a quick call to Miles might not be amiss.
>>1808459>[Not now]"Dont you go wasting your strength right now. You're gonna marry keith here and have alot of children and make this man here the happiest he could be."
>>1808479What, swordsmen can't use guns? Also pretty sure it was Fairchild. Since Lysa just told us.Comm the Ambassadors and have them put her in confinement for "safety from Assassination". Possibly from Keith. Possibly from us.
>>1808459>[Not now]If it was China girl we wouldn't want nobody here. Just tell Basil to hurry up with those medic and FUCKING FIND FAIRCHILD!
>>1808459>>[Not now]close auditoriums exits while we find fairy and whoever shot lysa.
>>1808498If it was him, there wouldn't be a Lysa to worry about. But we need to get Fairchild. We need to find her because at this point? This needs to end.Killing your own kin. Unforgivable.
>>1808511I think this is a cleaning being done by the five man band and the terran. Why? dunno. Most likely Fairchild is the real target
>>1808518> “A-Aunt.” She mutters. “A-All my fault...I guess...I guess I really can't do anything right, can I?”Or it was Fairchild.
Questions can wait.“You can survive. The rest can wait until you're stabilized. Come on, Lysa, live. Think about what this dunderhead would do without you.” You hover but don't get in Keith's way,She smiles wanly, “I...I'll survive this. I'm more tough than I look, tougher even than you.” She shakes her head, “Disappointed in myself...”“Bullets fired at your back don't care who you are, now let me work!” Keith grumbles.“If you don't, how are you going to marry him and plague the galaxy with your offspring and make him insufferably happy?” You add.The two of them look at you, then look at each other...and then, they start laughing. Honest, jubilant laughter. Lysa's voice goes weak, and she slumps back, “I see why Rosita says you're a good man.” She sighs.“It would be less frustrating if he wasn't.” Keith remarks. As disconcerting as compliments are from them, you still have work to do. So you resume communications with your security chief, “Basil, I want the vehicle General Fairchild used to get here pursued. Stop it if possible. Scramble every ship and every mech you can muster, if the Iulia Maesa tries to move I want it reduced to component atoms.”The medical team arrives, and Keith moves aside. “Good work, son, we'll take it from here.” One of the doctors pats him on the back with a gloved hand.“Sah...” Normally Basil's voice is like the sole of a sturdy boot, hard and leathery and devoid of soft emotions, with a precise cadence. Now, though, there's a deep undercurrent of emotion, “Is this it? Are we about to get justice?”“Yes.” You confirm, “Justice for Suleiman One.” And many things besides. As you walk away, you're already informing General Hatsheput via your PC of what you're about to do. No more distractions, it's time Fairchild was brought in, whether by the UJCIDF or you.
>>1808520IT IS A RECKONING!
>>1808520If there is one thing I want out of it, it's one final look in Fairchild's head. Figuratively or literally when we core her.
>>1808520>Roarke right now
>>1808528I'd be happier working her to dust in a penal colony or to rot in a cell. Death is too good for her but the main problem with keeping her alive is Fairy plotting her escape.
>>1808531>my own reaction to fairchild's shit>>1808539Jail would have been fine for me before, but trying to kill one's kin while threatening both a son and one of her former employees? Unless she has a GIANT bounty for keeping her alive, I am not risking it.
>>1808539Oh no. We are killing the bitch. No half measures. This isn't how Starwind does things.
>>1808539She's getting killed anon, and its gonna be worse than Bethany. Not sure how but I we'll figure something out.
>>1808553Honestly I already maxed out wanting her dead a while ago.Like I don't even want her to suffer. Just be gone. What I find funny is how much this upsets you. Like. Getting revenge on the person who kept you from being able to save the person you finally came to love, who loved you back completely really isn't the worst she's doneAlso who the hell says Kin.
>>1808570Appalachians's do anonand those who play too much CKII
>>1808569We can always spave her after breaking her legs and arms.
>>1808572>CkIIFucking love that game, I've played too much though.
>>1808574mods can add some serious twists to the game.that and getting the Bigger UI mod is a necessity
>>1808569>>1808563Honestly she'd probably love that. She's lost everything, if she can ruin us by getting to kill her while she is still officially and publicly a Jovial General she'd probably consider that acceptable.I mean I'm sure she'll try for murder suicide but spiteful suicide is an option too.
>>1808576Trust me I know
>>1808582Let's see if she will keep wanting ot once we start punching her guts out.
>>1808589about 1000 more than me m8. nothing more fun then making random rulers OP as fuck and watching how shit plays out
>>1808589I feel a lot better about having 444 hours in Dominions 4 now.
>>1808589I'd say this explains a lot, but honestly think was completely expected.
>>1808603obviously must play as someone who can raidor just changes the setting to allow everybody the ability to raid
>>1808610Mostly Byzantium or England. Though I usually restart after 50 years since I get bored.
>>1808619making other rulers OP can make the game more excitingSeduction way of life ftw
Wong is kill?or taking a long shit
>>1808691Think we are done for the night. Just need the next date so we can battle fairchild.
>>1808695do we throw Fairchild to the Space Nigs for her to be raped to death? or launch her into Jupiter proper so we can hear her get crushed to death by the pressure?
>>1808695Thinking about when. Probably Wednesday. Will confirm tomorrow.
>>1808698No. What we do is rather simple. Moment she is out, everyone bum rushes her. No one on one duel. No fighting fair. We give her the father of Qu'lir treatment. Everyone has beef with fairchild, so everyone is going to work together to bring her down.
>>1809118> Implying Roark fighting her wouldn't be massively unfair regardless. She isn't a Green Man, let's just incapacitate her and like paralyze her or something so she can live through to standing trial.I mean we've already won and crushed her thoroughly. Besides it could be pretty useful to charge her in conjunction with Jove and Marsfor War crimes committed on Qui'lir as part of resolving the ongoing conflict there and stalling Martian attempts to convert the population. Also for her crimes in the Belt, that'll go a long way to establish our authority as lawful outside of it. Finally we might as well go all in and charge her for War Crimes against the Avalonian prisoners she used the mind control things on. Make a bit of a show about how the Belt won't allow that shit to fly. We won't become the Green Men just to beat them. We'll do while retaining our pride and our belief in the sanctity of our core values regarding the right of a person to life or die as their own self, free in mind and soul even if their body is imprisoned.Avalon isn't cohesive under The Lady. There's a split between those who worship her, and those whose loyalty is to the Crown and their codes of honour and chivalry. We should twist that knife. Also it matches with Roarkes own values. And Fairchild can live through being used to promote our beliefs throughout the galaxy and improving our popularity even more.
>>1809527See, the thing is, I don't trust her to not try something. Either trying to pick us off from afar or making the entire legal process incredibly difficult. I can see Meridian or some faction of Jupiter using her for something, if not a faction of Avalon that would power her up and then send her at us again. She is a slippery shit who's committed some shit that can come close to Greenman tier itself. While it might look good, at the same time the information can be brought out posthumously. She committed high treason and war crimes. I don't think people would hold it against us.
>>1809888We have high enough ranking Jove officers here, the Caliphate of Mars, and she committed a crime in our territory. As well we have a shit ton of evidence about her.We can use the ansible to contact Jove and tell them she fucked up and shut is going down, so this is a Courtesy call to let them come out in support of what's happening and get some of the reflected credit for it.You want to keep someone alive especially for big charges because it just looks petty afterwards. And for a foreign Military Leader? That we're known to have a grudge against? That's some soviet propaganda style trial you have in mind. .Finally, if someone wants to make a move to snatched her then GOOD. We can be prepared for that. Let them come for the bait.I find it far more likely that anyone coming after her would be to kill her before she can testify anything anyways
Oh shit I forgot to confirm we're totally running Wednesday.
>>1822478Don't forget to put this in the archives either. They acted wonky last weekend.
>>1822478Good to hear, out of curiosity what was the general reaction for the higher ups when they saw what we could do?
>>1822921>Good to hear, out of curiosity what was the general reaction for the higher ups when they saw what we could do?Probably shat themselves or yell at the private for bringing in a fanfic of Starwind's wedding.
I wonder how the Queen looks like.
Which Wife is the tallest? Are they all womanlets?
>>1824852Fatima is the tallest naturally, drawing even with Roarke. Loriette is the next tallest.
>>1824852Karen and Sam are the shortest if I remember correctly.
