Hey all, anyone feel like rolling up a new House using the SIFRP rules? New season of GoT just starting has me feeling like running something, maybe a quest. Here's a .pdf collection of the core rulebook and Out of Strife, Prosperity, the most commonly used books for the /tg/ and /qst/ Houses that have come before.https://www.mediafire.com/folder/6sar1o14399xv/SIFRPThere's also the homebrew stuff that The Father made for House Malroy Quest.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qm-psOSbKz_FbT9XpMXcNfwuOLmSRokmevgt9jkMVzo/edit?usp=sharingOnly thing that's different about this House Creation is it isn't going to be for a fully fledged Lordly House, rather it'll be for a Knightly House, think House Clegane. There's a few differences, you can see them on page 109 of A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying - A Game of Thrones Edition. And they'll come up while we're rolling.
First up is the starting Realm. We can either roll for it, or if there is collective interest in a particular Realm we can just go with that.
>>1705413Oh and the roll for Realm is a 3d6.
Rolled 5, 4, 1 = 10 (3d6)>>1705413This is always fun.
Rolled 5, 1, 1 = 7 (3d6)>>1705415Are you going to make a quest with the new house?I vote Reach, get that fertile ground
>>1705447>Wants the reach>Rolls>Gets the Iron Islands.Truly Fate is whimsical today.
>>1705454Well Iron Islands we get them boats. Just take over a islands and with a mighty fleet we can stop anyone that dare to take us over.
>>1705447I'm hoping to. Been too long since we've had a GoT quest.Anyway going to nix the roll for the Iron Islands, since that doesn't really work for a Knightly House.Otherwise, we have a Vale roll, >>1705445. And a Reach vote. Any other opinions or we want to go with one of those?
>>1705463All the islands there are shit tier, I'm surprised they haven't stripped the place bear of all resources in the thousands of years they have lived there.
>>1705468That's why they always build ships to go raiding.
>>1705464Both have good Knight culture. My vote is for the Vale.
Rolled 4, 4, 4 = 12 (3d6)>>1705413My vote goes for whatever I roll
>>1705483>>1705494So two for the Vale. And one a piece for Westerlands and Reach. All good places for a Knightly House. Should we just go with the Vale and get this going?
>>1705508>ValeThe people of the Vale, popularly called "valemen", are known as honorable, reliable warriors steeped in honor and the worship of the Faith of the Seven.noble families from the Vale are said to have among the purest Andal bloodlines within Westeros>>1705508I'll go with Vale, got to have that pure blood
>>1705476Except unless you do very strict management of lumber you'll run out of trees to make your boats, not to mention the many ships lost at sea or in war.
>>1705524Yup, that why I'm going with Vale. It seems like a hassle to use that lumber for boats that will just be destroy. Lumber is better use for bows, arrows, and houses.
>>1705513>>1705517Alright then, the Vale it is.Your starting resources are in pic related. So here's the first of the differences between Lord and Knight Houses. When rolling for starting House resources we'll be using 5d6 rather than 7d6. Basically, we're going to be starting at a bit of a disadvantage and it is going to be a harder House to run. So sounds like fun right?Anyway, I will need 7 rolls of 5d6 to get our base resources.
Rolled 3, 6, 1, 5, 3 = 18 (5d6)>>1705529
Rolled 4, 4, 4, 6, 4 = 22 (5d6)>>1705529Rolling I always like a challenge
Rolled 4, 2, 6, 3, 3 = 18 (5d6)>>1705529
Rolled 4, 6, 2, 4, 4 = 20 (5d6)>>1705529
Rolled 2, 4, 5, 2, 5 = 18 (5d6)>>1705529
Rolled 3, 5, 1, 1, 3 = 13 (5d6)>>1705529
Rolled 5, 4, 4, 6, 2 = 21 (5d6)>>1705529
>>1705531>>1705532>>1705533>>1705538>>1705540>>1705547>>1705550Defense - 38Influence - 32Lands - 13Law - 10Population - 13Power - 13Wealth - 21So that's our starting lot. That Defense is a real winner, as is Influence. Power, Population, and Law are going to hurt. Wealth is pretty decent for a Knightly House. Not the worst start.Next up is House Founding, pic related. We'll need a 1d6 for this. And we'll discuss based upon the rolls.
>>1705529If I am not mistaken this is what we get. Defense 38Influence 32Lands 13Laws 10Population 13Power 13Wealth 21
Rolled 5 (1d6)>>1705555>>17055566 seconds apart and with quads
Rolled 6 (1d6)>>1705555>>1705555
Rolled 6 (1d6)>>1705555
>>1705558>>1705559>>1705565>>1705576Three 6s and a 5. Well that looks like a Newly founded to me. So sayeth the dice gods. So our House is new, incredibly so. Founded after the War of the Ursurper/Robert's Rebellion/Booby B's Wild Westerosi Ride. That means the founder is likely the first of the House. So a couple thoughts right now. As a Knightly House the House is unlikely to be sworn directly to the Arryns. So look about the Houses of the Vale and see if any strike you guys and we'll work out a rough history after the next couple of bits.Anyway, with a newly founded House we will need a roll of 1d6-2 for Events.
Rolled 5 - 2 (1d6 - 2)>>1705577
Rolled 4 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>1705577
Rolled 5 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>1705577>So our House is new, incredibly so. Founded after the War of the Ursurper/Robert's Rebellion/Booby B's Wild Westerosi Ride. That means the founder is likely the first of the House.Look likes it a more uphill battle for us.
>>1705582>>1705586>>1705590Two 3s and a 2.We'll go with the 3 Events, give us more to work with. Dice gods are making this far easier than it usually is.So, next step is House Events. We will need 3 rolls of 3d6 for these. First event will be out founding event.
Rolled 3 + 2 (1d6 + 2)>>1705577
Rolled 6, 1, 2 = 9 (3d6)>>1705595I vote for the house of Grafton.
Rolled 6, 1, 6 = 13 (3d6)>>1705595
Rolled 5, 6, 5 = 16 (3d6)>>1705595
Rolled 2, 6, 2 = 10 (3d6)>>1705595
>>1705598If we take this as our banner, we probably burned down our former liege lords tower which proved our loyalty to the rebellion and got us landed
>>1705614We're not taking this banner. We have to be under the house, since we're a knightly house. In time we'll have our own banner
>>1705598>>1705604>>1705608Treachery, Favor, and Glory. Those are actually some really interesting and good rolls for a new House. The Knight is going to have a really interesting reputation. So what we're going to do is roll for the three events. I'll ask for an amount of dice that will fill the respective bonuses for each. I will take the first roll each time.So first off I need a 3d6 for Treachery.
Rolled 5, 1, 2 = 8 (3d6)>>1705622
Rolled 3, 5, 3 = 11 (3d6)>>1705622>>1705619Didn't realize grafters were an actual house
>>1705623-5 Influence-1 Law+2 PowerSo now that the painful one is done here we go with the good ones.I will need 4d6 for Favor.
Rolled 3, 2, 6, 3 = 14 (4d6)>>1705630
Rolled 6, 3, 5, 5 = 19 (4d6)>>1705630
>>1705633+3 Influence+2 Lands+6 Law+3 PowerOh man we're shaping up to be a lot better off than I thought we would at first. Now the last of it, 4d6 for Glory.
Rolled 4, 6, 4, 5 = 19 (4d6)>>1705638
>>1705643>Defense 42>Influence 36>Lands 15>Laws 15>Population 13>Power 23>Wealth 21If I did it right, stats
>>1705644>42 defencePfffffft ok sure. If we buy 8 more dear lord our defence will be citadel tier.
What about we were a men-at-arms of a landed knight who was a Targaryen loyalist. We murdered the knight when a battle against some Arryn´s vassal began to went sour and swore ourselves under the Usurper´s banner. For our services, we received the land that was property of the Ser and got both the favor of the king and the loot all the battles that followed.
>>1705647The thing we need to do is our population, we don't have to worry about any enemies on the outside.
>>1705639+4 Defense+6 Influence+4 Law+5 PowerGod damn son.So our finished starting resources are as follows:Defense - 42Influence - 36Lands - 15Law - 20Population - 13Power - 23Wealth - 21Those are some damn respectable stats for a Knightly House. Especially such a young one. Again, thoughts. With such a high Defense stat we can afford a good deal of Defense Holdings or go all in on a Castle for 40. Story wise that might mean that the Knight took the castle of his former Lord, who might have been a Targaryen supporter, thus the Treachery. Anyway!Next up is indeed Defense. We have pic related for all of the base Holdings. I'd recommend Father's homebrews as well since they have a lot of smaller holdings that make Defense purchasing more interesting. So discuss, and ask questions if you'd like.
The initial stat rolls were pretty good, 35d6 for an average result of >3.7 per die. And then Favor and Glory for starting events...The dice gods are truly smiling.
>>1705649NahId say we got our name out in some tourney making the king acknowledge our existence and then did some big dick shit during the greyjoy rebellion
>>1705652So how will time play into this? What year we starting at, since I want to know how much time we have before game of thrones happens.
>>1705662How do you explain the treachery then?
>>1705652I think we should definitive for the castle.
>>1705662>>1705667I actually planned on setting the quest in 288AC. A year before the Greyjoy Rebellion begins. So we have a conflict to work towards that will involve the Vale, even if only slightly.
>>1705652I had the same idea for the Treachery idea, so I support that and spending all 40 on a castle.
>>1705670Maybe go with the killed our former leige loag ideaMay have done it because wideareed with our fellow valesmeMay have done it becausw we saw the writting on the wall May have done it because we saw our chanceMay have done it because we were a coward who was scarred for his lifeWe haven't told anybody why we did what we did>>1705652Castle
>>1705682Definitely castleAlthough, it is going to be big for a man of our standing
>>1705677So if I'm reading it right. Having a castle increases our defend by 8 making our grand total 50?Also I vote for Castle
>>1705682Holy fuck don't know what happened during that second sentence*support>>1705677Well shitMaybe we saved jon arryn from a clan raid
>>1705670Mmmmmmabye we were a mercernary that preformed admirably during the rebellion as a low key sellsword, and we exchanged valuable tactical information to either side, in the end we actually stole someone else's glory and became knighted for our deeds, even though it was all motivated by selfishness and the acts of glory and not gold were a means to an end.Something like that idk.>>1705652I say we purchase 8 and go for a full on superior castle. Cause thats one hell of an asset.
>>1705687No, it gives us bonuses when we defend. Our stats are like currency we spend on stuff
>>1705687Not really. The castle give us a bonus in combat when we defend it.It doesn´t add to the defense resource.
OK guys the basic idea is:We were a sworn to the Loyalist side in the WarWe double crossed our former lord or employerBecause of that and our deeds in battle, we got gifted a castle and the land surrounding it.How about that? Now, what were we when the war began: a sellsword, a knight or a lowborn (men-at-arms, merchant...etc.)
>>1705707Sellsword seems like the best explanation for all the events so far. Then we were knighted during the war and etc.
>>1705707Id say a hedge knight from the vale who went down to kinglanding(vale tourneys have stiff competition) or just a simple sellsword
>>1705687No not quite. The defense bonus is for Power holdings when they're defending the castle. Anyway, looks like everyone wants to go on with the Castle. Which is going to be a task, a big empty thing for a Knight with no Household or History. Next up is Influence. Which we have 36 of.Now, we have the option of going Bachelor mode as many quests have before us. Or have a previous marriage before our ascent to a Landed Knight and have some children/heirs to speak of. Maybe the Knight is older and is looking to marry his heir and children to better stations in life than his own was. Wife might have been common born. Hell the Knight might have been.Discuss what we'd like to do.
>>1705670We were a knight in the service of a Targaryen align lord. A fat lord that never lift a finger in all his life and expected us to do all the fighting for him. It was fine when we were fighting was clansmen but Robert's Rebellion changed that. He order us to intercept Robert's much larger host on his march to Gulltown to buy himself and Marq Grafton time to gather his strength. Sick of all his bullshit we threw him out a window and join Robert's army instead.
>>1705707How about a young Household knight. Still high on honour and virtue, and so when our lord joins the Loyalist side we are outraged due to the betrayal of Lord Arryn and the Barbarity of the Mad King yadda yadda yadda. More loyal to the Vale than to the Iron Throne.
>>1705720Lets go Bachelor mode. It makes things much more interesting.
>>1705723>>1705725Supporting these together.
>>1705720>Bachelor modeWe're a handsome lad, looking for pussy that is noble.
>>1705720Something something Hot Dornish Wife
>>1705720Bachelor would be good. Vale is one of the most politically interesting places, since Jon Arryn being hand makes a young, new knight an interesting proposition for everyone.
>>1705720>BachelorDornish women are shit tier just like their wineMarry a proper andol girl
>>1705749Also, Dorne is fairly non-influential right now due to the whole, supporting the Targaryans
>>1705749>Dornish women are shit tier just like their wineI like your style>>1705755> TargaryansThat I can agree with
>>1705723I don´t know if I want to go for the honor route. Many GoT have exlored that too and I would rather be a little different. But, instead of a sellsword and in order to not get a Bronn clone, what about we are a merchant that when the Targaryen end him gold to pay for weapons, he opted to deliver them to the Arryn´s?
>>1705733>>1705737>>1705748>>1705749Bachelor mode it is lads. Not unusual in the least. So next up is Lands, pic related, which we have 15 of. That is rather weak actually. The storyline reasoning for that is that most of the former Lord's lands were taken by neighboring Lords and the like and we were given only the primary domain.Anyway, this works as such. You need to purchase a Terrain type first (i.e. Plains, Wetlands, Mountains, or Hills)From there you purchase features that are included in your domain, such as Rivers, Ruins, Forrests, etc. Seeing as this is the Vale our options are either Mountains or Hills. Everything else is up to your guys.
>>1705761Well we could be honourable at the start of the Rebellion. But the Rebellion forced us to grow up very quick, and loose our assumptions about honour.
>>1705763MountainRoadStreamthat's all 15mostly cause i want a mine later to improve those house fortune rolls
>>1705761Throwing your liege lord out a window isn't very honorable. >>17057637 hills 3 coast3 river1 grassland
>>1705774Executing him in the style of the Arryns for abandoning his liege lord? We had to make do, since we don't have a moon door.
>>1705770>>1705777We should have the coast line to have resources from the sea
Oh and here's the map I'll be using as "canon" for the quest. In case you wanted to think of a particular location for the House to be.
>>1705763Mountain with dense woods plus a stream. Very secluded. Resource heavy, very defensible.
>>1705781You are right it might be a gray area because he stood against the the Arryns.
>>1705774We're a fucking valemanThe arryns do that shit every morning
>>1705793Yeah, but the point I was making is that we were his sworn knight and we threw him out the window the moment his orders seen like a bad idea.
>>1705801How about you support me so we all can have a coast? The river will be helpful in making farmland.
Okay let's do an actual vote to make this easier since we have three popular options.>1. Mountains (Coast+Rivers) for 15>2. Mountains (Road+Stream) for 15>3. Hills (Coast+River+Grassland) for 14
>>1705804Only when he betrayed his lord for a foul Tyrant who incinerates those invited in as guests.I imagine this was the justification given to the rest of the house guard.
>>1705807>2. Mountains (Road+Stream) for 15
>>1705807>>1. Mountains (Coast+Rivers) for 15
>1. Mountains (Coast+Rivers) for 15
>>1705807>1. Mountains (Coast+Rivers) for 15Biulding a port in this terrain is probably shit. And I would prefer woods over a coast. But whatever.
>>1705807>mountains+ coast and rivers
Okay looks like a clear winner here. Mountains w/ coast and a river. There are a lot of good locations in the Vale with those features. So feel free to discuss with pic related.
>>1705841Between Heart's Home and Strong Song?
>>1705847Look I marked some places where we can be at.
>>1705841>>1705785These two maps are very different. What are we using for sure?
>>1705841Here, in this small valley with a coast.
>>1705849I like the red one
Next up are Law and Population, which don't require any actions just a quick explanation. Our Law score is 20, which gives a -5 to House Fortunes. And our Population is 13, which gives a 0 to House Fortune. Those are the things that are going to hurt and make this challenging in the beginning. Areas to focus on. Population likely dropped because of the former Lord's holdings going elsewhere. And the Law, because lol clansmen. Next post will be for Power.
>>1705853Doesnt have a river sadly.
>>1705855Me too>>1705856I pick the red spot mark on this map >>1705849
>>1705860Not every river is in the map and the water near Strong Song is a Fjord not river.
>>1705852One is a close up of the vale, the other is the far view>>1705849This seems about right
Alright sorry about that delay. Had to find something real quick.Anyway, next up is Power, which we have 23 of. Which is respectable for a Knightly House. So yeah, pic related.Power works as such, you pick a Training level (i.e. Green, Trained, Veteran, Elite). And you pick a unit. Archers, cavalry, infantry etc. Add those together for your total cost. There are also a handful of homebrew options in Father's document if you'd like to use them as well. Discussion and questions.
>>17058863 green Archers (12 points)2 green garrison (6 points)1 green Infantry (5 points)23 points total
>>1705886One thing, if we are good at Battle leading, our troop level doesn't matter
>>17058861 green Archers (4 points)1 Train garrison (5 points)1 green Infantry (5 points)1 Train Cavalry (8 points)Total: 22 points
>>17058862 Green Archers (8)2 Green Garrsion (6)1 Green Support (3)1 Green infantry (5)22 points used
>>17058862 Green Archers (8)1 Green Garrison (3)1 Green Infantry (5)1 Green Cavalry1 Green SellswordsWe can't be a Knight of the Vale without Cavalry. And our numbers are probably low compared to our castle, so some sellswords could work
We should have some train troops, if we go full green they will break at the first sign of trouble.
>>1705886>elite calvary>elite crusaders*knights of the vale intensifies*
Alright, so it looks like 2 units of Green Archers are a winner. So we'll take 8 off for that. Easy enough. And a single unit of Green Infantry is popular enough as well. So another 5. We'll go with one unit of a Green Garrison for 5. That's 18 used up on the popular requests. Anything else for 7 more?
>>1705926Green garrison is (3)I support getting 2 garrisonAlso 1 green supportSince we need people to heal our troops if they get hurt.
>>1705929Yeah lets go with this.
>>1705926Lets bump up one of those infantries or garrisons to elite so our men don't break when shit goes south
>>1705926>7 moreSorry meant to say 5.Oh and here's a map of the Vale as canonized by House Harrock and Bordain. If we do choose that area to live in. They're /tg/ canon so I might reference them.
>>1705932Oh, wait you're right. I can't read apparently. Green Archers x2 - 8Green Garrison x1 - 3Green Infantry x1 - 5Oh, so we do have 7 left. Well shit.
>>1705935Well shit thenVeteranSeriously guys we need some not shit soldiers
>>1705945Well, we do have the points to upgrade 3 units to trained
Veteran Garrison: 7We have a castle, let´s make sure it is safe from bandits and invadersGreen Criminals: 1Why send them to the Guard when we can use them just fine?Trained Infantry: 7Green Archers: 3These three can form the bulk of our forcesTrained Scouts: 5We need to make sure the mountain clans don´t get to usTotal 23
>>1705935Green garrison is (3)So you were right the first time>>1705934Cant if we get a green horse men.
>>1705950Shit I counted wrong>>1705944What about we up the Garrison to Veteran? And then we recruit some Green Scouts so no brigands can hide from us
>>17058861 x Green scouts (3)1 x Green archers (4)1 x trained cavalry (8)1 x trained infantry (7)Total = 22
>>1705950I don't want criminals in our forces.
I think we should up the Garrison, Infantry and 1 archer to trained
Well if we want a unit of Veteran soldiers you guys can nix one of the Green Archers and pick up that Veteran Cavalry for 10.
>>1705950>green crimanlsNo>>1705959I back this >>1705959 or >>1705957
>>1705886Seems there's a GoT quest, here's to hoping it doesn't tank.Backing >>1705959 #
>>1705996>That nameDo you still follow fallout thread?
>>1706001Empire of one? I do, goddamn pseudo Cthulhu and Texas
>>1705959We need a garrison
>>1706020Cool. I'm one of the anon's that posts in that thread.
Alright, so this got a bit messy. Let's do a vote on some options and we'll get this done with.Option 1:x2 Green Archersx1 Green Garrisonx1 Green Infantryx1 Green Cavalry =22Option 2:x1 Green Scoutx1 Green Archerx1 Trained Cavalryx1 Trained Infantry=22Option 3:x1 Green Scoutx1 Trained Archersx1 Trained Garrisonx1 Trained Infantry=21Vote:>Option 1>Option 2>Option 3
>>1706023What's the conversion to get more power again? We can grab a green garrison that way.
>>1706033Im actually gonna go option 3.
>>1706033>Option 1More troops, plus a garrison
>>1706033>Option 1We need a garrison
>>1706033>Option 2because green troops are fucking shit and will break at the first sign of trouble
>>1706058All green though - they'll break at the first battle. We need a core element of trained men.
Option 3. We need a Garrison that is worth a fuck and Scouts are a must. There are no plains nearby so Cavalry is not very essential.
>>1706071>>1706033Fucking me and my links
>>1706071Exaaaaactly. thank you.
>>1706065>>1706064Who said we dont train them or were looking for trouble. Option 2 has no garrison
>>1706033Option 1 is first choice if that doesnt win Put my vote to #3
>>1706087I'll go with this, only with 2 instead of 1
Alright by a narrow margin 2 wins. Power is easy to get and we can fill in our gaps as necessary. We'll be fine, no worries everyone. Concerns can be dealt with in game.
Okay, very last thing we need to handle is Wealth. This is one of the trickier ones since there are so many options.I'd recommend going through Out of Strife, Prosperity and the Homebrew options as well for some ideas.I know the idea of a Mine was tossed around already.A Maester is incredibly common as well, but remember this is a young Knightly House so they might not have one yet.Either way, we have 21 Wealth to work with. Questions and discuss as always.
>>1706117Mine + Port+10 House fortune rolls1 wealth remaining
>>1706120ThisPorts is why we chose coast and mines are importantAlso what should we name our big fuck off castle? What is even our houses name
>>1706120Yeah about that, can't get a port without a Small Town. So that's going to have to be a no on the port.
>>1706120So our main sources of wealth will be trade and minerals?
>>1706126ah, damn. Must have missed that line in the book
>>1706126all it says in the book is "Requires coastline" for port, just looked it up
>>1706130Page 32 of OOSP. Speaking of, here are the Mine options if we're so inclined to pick one of those up.
>>1706117Vineyard for 10 wealthHouse Fortune +1, Wealth +1Rare Vintage for 5 wealthInfluence +1, Wealth Loss Mitigation +16 wealth left.
>>1706137I don't use the Wealth holdings in the corebook outside of Maester.
>>1706144That requires us to be in the Reach, Riverlands or Dorne. So sorry, no.
>>1706148Ah, all i have is the core book.
>>1706151OOSP is in the .pdf dump in the OP. I'd recommend picking it up. Very helpful.
>>1706117>Valuable mines (15)>Smelter (5) 1 left over
>>1706165Supporting unless someone was a better idea
>>1706165Works well enough for me
Maybe our house words can be something along the lines of "the guilty shall fall"
>>1706200Maybe OP will have options for house words
And as all Vale Houses do we go with the mine, and some addition smelting. So that leaves us with:Defense: 2 - Castle (40)Influence: 36 Lands: 0 - Mountains w/ Coast+River (15) Law: 20 - -5 House FortunesPopulation: 13 - 0 House FortunesPower: 1 - Green Archers (4), Green Scouts (3), Trained Cavalry (8), Trained Infantry (7)Wealth: 1 - Valuable Mine (15), Smelter (5)And that's our lot. Follow up post in a second so we can start coming up with some of the details.
Alright, so we have some story details to consider here.>Who is our Knight? What is his name, his background, new House name? Was he a bastard? Common born? A sellsword?>Does the Knight have a family? Parents, siblings? Where are they?>What is his coat of arms? >>1706249I would imagine we pushed our lord out the windowWe had waining respect for him but the rebellion was too much, so we killed him and joined up with our fellow men of the vale to help put down the mad kingWe were then made a lord by lord jon arryn for our actions
>>1706249Alright time to whip shit up anons.>What is our Castle called?>Where is our Castle located?Totengrad, the castle is located at the end of the mountains past the river>Who is our Knight? What is his name, his background, new House name? Was he a bastard? Common born? A sellsword? The knight's name can be either Tomas or something. New house's name is can be either Grafton or Dumas
>>1706315House grafton is taken
>>1706315How about Michael or Charles.>>1706315For family we should do Eagle or Griffin since we are in the mounatins
>>1706249>Who is our Knight? What is his name, his background, new House name? Was he a bastard? Common born? A sellsword?Sir Jonathan Dawn, our family serve the previous lord for generation and we have a some of their blood from a grandmother. >Does the Knight have a family? Parents, siblings? Where are they? Our father die a few years back from a bad fever and we took his place as the right hand man of the previous lord. Our mother is still alive and lives in Gulltown.
>>1706331House Dumas then>>1706333I can agree with a griffin
>>1706337I think i like this for our parentage
>>1706337I would like us to have some brothers or sisters.
>>1706354Maybe a white griffon killing a black vulture on a blue field?
>>1706372How about what you said but a gold snake
>>1706354I'm a fan of the griffon personally.
>>1706278Agreed. Our dad has dementia though, and is slowly losing his mind.
>1706354>I'm a fan of the griffon personally.>>1706354I also love the griffon. >>1706383Yes I agree.
>>1706394GriffonWe still haven't decided our house words or even it's name though
>>1706401House words, hm. What should they reflect?
>>1706414I think the words i posted further up the thread are too om the nose, but i think it should have something to do with justice
>>1706363>>1706369Our older sister is marry to a knight that serves at Redfort and our little brother serves as our squire. We might knight him in the coming months if he gets change to shine. Also mother refuses to leave Gulltown permanently and not even our new castle will make her think otherwise. >>1706379>>1706436I like the griffon and the words.
So a griffon is a lock. Easy enough on that one.Dumas for a name? Not seeing any other opinions on this. Lord Emmerst Earp was your former Lord and benefactor. His family had employed your own for several generations. Born of common stock and raised just beyond it your grandsires have been stewards, knights, and castellans for House Earp. Your father was the Lord's right-hand man, a steward known for his ability with figures. As he grew in age his mind deteriorated more and more, to the point where he found himself without a place by Lord Emmerst. He resides in his old study, a tower loft on the north side of the castle, scribbling notes of nonsense and hardly even remember his family or their names when they come to visit. Your mother lives in Gulltown, with your elder sister's husband, an unnotable Knight in service to House Arryn of Gulltown. Your younger brothers, a pair of twins now serve in your military. Co-Captains of the Infantry that you now field. Is this acceptable?
>>1706278Agree as well with griffin>>1706453YesSome words"Telling the truth will let you sour""Being Just and Honorable allow one to touch the heavens"
>>1706453I can go with this
>>1706453Any other name but Dumas? Everything else is fine.
>>1706453>DumasChange nameVote for name.MIchael, Charles, something other than Dumas
>>1706453Yes to everything but name
Alright, that settles that then. A vague understanding of our family at least. Please do suggest other House names if you don't like Dumas. All the names you want.
>>1706470>>1706475I proposed Dumas as a house name. I can go with whatever for a first name

>>1706486For House name I wanted something more in line with Giffin, or Griffon.I would even agree with our house name being Griffin.
>>1706475What about Jonas Griff of House Griff? Also does our father have to be senile? Rarer he be gone be gone dignity.
>>1706485Barca? as in Carthaginian generals and such.
>>1706490>>1706491That sounds slightly retarded. If it worked like that the Greyjoys would be the Squidims, the Starks would be the Wulfen, the Targs would be the Dragos, etc.>>1706499Grallner is fine
>>1706491>Also does our father have to be senile? Rarer he be gone be gone dignity.Who knows maybe OP can make some backstory with it, or a side story about it. How about Jonathan Griff, and shorten that to Joseph or Jonas?>>1706504Sometimes it works well.
>>1706507For Gryff I just remember that cunt from the Telltale GoT game
>>1706507Please no Griffin names
>>1706491It makes things interesting. Not everyone in Westeros dies with dignity after all. The Knight taking care of his father is part of a side plot I've begun to think of. Your father's name is Cristoff by the by.
>>1706517An alternate to dad being senile: died of dysentery. No dignity in that death
>>1706535Nah I kind of want the father alive right now. He'll be a grounding point for the Knight in his new position in life and it'll serve in a plotline I'm cooking up.Don't really see any particular interest in a House name here. Nothing that's really growing in support. I suppose we'll use the banner I mocked up since that didn't have anyone against the idea either. Maybe a different subject? Do we want to really nail down a location for the castle? And a name for it?
>>1706607Well here is my two cents on locations, I'm divide on which to go North or South of the river.NamesMountain HallRiver RockIron MountainIron WallCastle Near River and MountainRocky CoastHall of GriffinsGriffin or Griffon Nest
>>1706621I'd say go north of the river, name it Iron Wall
>>1706621North of the mountain and River Rock
>>1706621What about griffin hall?
>>1706621I vote north. Not keen on any of the names really. The name should relate to House Earp in my opinion, since it wasn't our castle to begin with.

>>1706621That seems as good a place as any. I suppose the river is a rather popular place for newly made Lords and Knights to find their holdings. See, >>1705935 for more details. If you don't know House Bordain I'd suggest giving it a look. The Grey Lord of Morderendgrad is a frightful neighbor to have. I think I'll split the Badic holdings on that map. We'll call the eastern half yours. Give or take. I agree that none of the names are really working for me either.I'm naming the family and decided on L names for the family so how about a quick vote for the name of the Knight.>Liam>Landon>LincolnAlso the status of the mother:>Common born, a woman of the Earp Household.>Bastard Born, a woman from Gulltown, base born of House Shett.
>>1706788>Landon>Common born, a woman of the Earp Household.

>>1706788I can accept Landon
>>1706788>Neighbors with William BordainYES, GODDAMN DO I LOVE THAT QUEST>Landon>Common born, a woman of the Earp Household.
Landon it is. A good name for a Knight. Let's vote on the name of the House.>Gryphen>Grallner>Dumas>SarunrettAlso let's vote on who we swear our banner too.>House Lynderly of Snakewood>House Belmore of Strong Song>House Corbray of Heart's Home
>>1706888>Grallner>House Belmore of Strong Song
>>1706888>Gryphen>House Belmore of Strong Song
>>1706888>Sarunrett>House Belmore of Strong SongClose to that heck of a guy Will Bordain
Ser Landon of House Grallner then. Sworn to House Belmore of Strong Song.House Earp was once considered a rival of House Belmore, powerful Lords of the river. Lord Benedar Belmore made a considerable effort to pull the Earp's former lands into his already considerable holdings. Landon is entirely unaware of this. Just knowing that Lord Belmore showered favor upon the young Knight who rode with what was left of House Earp's banners and those loyal to the Arryns to meet him.I'll be writing up some stuff regarding the House and probably pop off to bed here soon. Tomorrow we'll roll up Ser Landon Grallner's stats and see what we can do about starting up and fucking some clansmen. A couple more questions though to discuss:>What does the valuable mine produce? >What sort of personality does Landon have? What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?
>>1706978>>What does the valuable mine produce?Iron, and maybe also some tin and copper.>What sort of personality does Landon have?Honorable, Just and other things>What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?Head of the Personal Guard, or Head of the House Earp Army
>>1706978>What does the valuable mine produce?Copper and Tin.>What sort of personality does Landon have? He's an honorable guy but seems to have to do a lot of dirty work it seems. He's the one who had to take care of his previous lord, he's the one who has to deal with shitheels while trying to remain civil, and he's the one who hears all the shit talk about whether he's a Kingslayer part deux or not. Also he loses his temper with his ailing father some times and he hates it. He just wishes his father had gone out in battle or honorably.>What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?Head of the army, since that pulls more weight than some faggot who was head of the guard.
>>1706978>What does the valuable mine produce? A steel mine where the steel looks closer to silver than its normal color.>>What sort of personality does Landon have? What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?Landon was Earp's sworn sword and was his champion for trials by combat which Earp would get into often due to his nature as a gambler and abrassive personality. One of these times was him betting his mine against some clansmen for one of their women and some of their men for an honor guard. Landon beat the champion but the Mountain Clans being the mountain clans didn't care and swore bloody vengeance. Landon never really cared why he was fighting, just that he was and could taste the thrill of battle and prove how much better he was than the masses. Landon also had a soft spot for worship and was a devote FoS worshiper to the point he believes he was crafted by the Gods for a bigger purpose and would die trying to achieve it. He also loves his family especially his twin brothers and has a soft spots for his pet dog, Clarence.
>>1707024I can go with this, supporting
>>1707024Could be more honorable
>>1706978>>What does the valuable mine produce?Silver. >What sort of personality does Landon have? Tries to do the honorably thing but has being doing the hard jobs and decisions for too long not to be a pragmatic. Following Lord Earp's order would have been foolishness, throwing him out the window was the best choice we ever made. >What was his station in House Earp before the betrayal?Castellan and Head of the Personal Guard, Lord Earp all military matters to us.
>>1707044We're a traitorous knight who betrayed our master and got his lands out of it, we can't be that honorable. Besides its a nice counterpoint to the Vale Knights way of thinking and will lead to interesting situations along with giving the character room for growth and development.
>>1707045I back this up. Are we going to be a devote FoS worshipers since I like that part as well.
>>1707024Literally a mine full of OC Donut Steel.>>1707044Agreed, like this >>1707045 annon suggested.
>>1707024Supporting this, but change the mine to produce just normal silver.I like our personality, the mix of vain arrogance and dutiful family / religious adherence.
>>1707066>Gave a character with flaws and qualities that make him stand out but not too much with room to grow>Oc Donut SteelI'll give you the mine, I couldn't come up with a better idea for it, but the character itself is nowhere near that bad.
>>1707081No, I was just talking about the mine itself.
>>1707091My bad I though you were calling the character "A mine of Oc". The other mine idea was just a large deposit of Flint.
I would just like to say anons: fuck honor. What's that beneficially done for anyone in GoT?
>>1707103By Honor I mean not being a dick, and back stabbing people. If we say we're going to help someone we do it. We don't have to help them if we don't want too. Our word is our bond.
>>1707103Honor is an interesting characteristic for Asoiaf characters since it leads to conflicts with the other characters and is an interesting flaw in setting. What I have a problem with is anons who want pragmatic since it makes the characters never have strong characters when its a defining aspect since they always have to pick the best option instead of having beliefs and picking options based on them which makes characters more dynamic and real.
>>1707103Because it's that much funner to watch us fall into dishonor.
>>1707137Its funner to watch us become an honorable man.
>>1707111>>1707123If you anons want to be a Stark then by my guest, I just want to survive. Besides considering our background I don't believe that it works:The honorable sellsword betrayed his lord? What?>>1707146It's funner to troll the Starks about how honor really works
>>1707153>I just want to surviveThat's a shitty boring motive for a character, everyone want to survive to some extent. A motive for a character would be why do you want to survive?
>>1707153I just want to be the guy who tried being honorable and found out that that shit don't work most of the time. We're not dicks but fuck man, if it's between me and some other dude I'm gonna' try and save me. I'm not saying we rape all the bitches I'm just saying we fuck over the guys who want to rape our bitches.
>>1707169So that some day we can have enough power to actually make change happen in this shit world>>1707174I'm not saying we be Gregor, I'm saying we be a good version of Tywin who can fight
OK, how about this. We were honorable once, we truly wanted to be an honorable knight. But Lord Earp took that away that from us, he could use us as his champion in frivolous duels, just to get rip of a rival or the a husband of some woman he wanted. We were his executioner on more than one innocent. Throwing him out the window wasn't a moment decision, but the build up resentment from years of service.
>>1707186>So that some day we can have enough power to actually make change happen in this shit worldWhat changes?
>>1707189I'd be fine with this combination of the two winning choices as long as it took the other personality traits in my option. (Specifically zealots and love of fighting)
>>1707189Alright, I want us to be honorable, not Stark level, but overall a decent guy, that does what is right. Like some easy things are not raping, or killing woman and kids.>>1707193I do like us to be a Zealot as well.
>>1707189That I can agree with>>1707190Making lives easier for the smallfolk, have assholes like Roose, Walder, Gregor and the Greyjoys be less successful compared to how they are now>>1707199>I do like us to be a Zealot as well.So long as we're not like Stannis I approve
>>1707208>have assholes like Roose, Walder, Gregor and the Greyjoys be less successful compared to how they are nowOne how do we have any idea what they are planning to do, and why do we hate them? Just because you think their "mean" people?>Stannis >A zealot Ah I see your a show watcher.
>>1707193Sure, love of fighting is easy we took a liking from all the duels, even if we detested the man we had to fight for and we took comfort in the seven. We knew they would punish Lord Earp even if we were sworn to protect him, our decision to finally throw him out the window feeled like an epiphany.
>>1707208>Not wanting to be like stannis
>>1707229I know right? Just look at that iron jaw, and those sideburns flowing into his majestic beard, and that shinning head he uses to blind his enemies. Perfection.Stannis for life
>>1707193Yeah, I like this. Our zealots nature makes our love of fucking and whores even better. A weakness borne out a lack of affection from the women who we truly want - nobles. They looked down at us while we were a commoner, disdainful.
>>1707241The year is 288ACI actually planned on setting the quest in 288AC. A year before the Greyjoy Rebellion begins. So we have a conflict to work towards that will involve the Vale, even if only slightly. So we have a few years before all shit happen when the show starts.
>>1707256>We might get to catch a glimpse of Stannis and maybe he'll even nod at usYes
>>1707256OP, please get a tripcode.
>>1707270>288ACI'm not OP he has a different /qst/ trip
>>1707060No, we are a knight who saw our lord siding with a lunatic mass murderer over his leige lord. So we killed him. We are more loyal to the Vale than to the Iron throne. What we did is very honourable in the eyes of the Vale.
Is meta knowledge going to be used? I think we'll stay away from it, but lots of people knows what's going to happen, and will use that knowledge.
Green Ronin made a vineyard in their Chronicle Starter PDF.
>>1708293For when this isn't being updated
So I'm off to work here in a bit. Probably resume with character creation at 8-9 PM EST. Some thoughts. >What sort of weapons does Landon specialize in? Sword and board, two handed claymore, Mace, an axe, a spear, etc.? >Is he/was he a good Tourney Knight, keen on the joust? Or more adept in the melee? Or perhaps archery? Or did he just never participate? >What sort of horse does he ride? Is he a particularly strong rider?>Did he inherit a Valyrian steel weapon from House Earp? If so, does he use it?>What are the details of the Glory event? We have these Treachery and Favor but what did Landon do to bring Glory?
>>1708326I would say that he specializes in the Mace. Doesn't really care about the appearance and that all lords should use the sword nonsense. Practical and efficient. Why break the skin when you can break the bone?I would like for him to be similar to Tywin. Fucker's been fighting Bandits in the Vale for how many goddamn years, he knows damn well that lordly bullshit gets you killed and rotting on a hillside.(attached image is what I imagine our character to be like).
>>1708326>What weaponSword and shield, the most popular fighting style for the vale and what we would realistically know.>TourneyMostly the melee since the Joust was more for knights and nobles.>What sort of HorseAn average one, as Earp's champion we never really focused on horse riding, but we can ride as well as most people.>Valyrian swordNope Earp lost it years ago in a bet>GloryLandon was instrumental in the Taking of Gulltown by opening the portside gate for Robert and personally slew five vale knights of somewhat known status.
>>1708552>Landon was instrumental in the Taking of Gulltown by opening the portside gate for Robert and personally slew five vale knights of somewhat known status.Wasn't Arryn with Ned and Bobby at the start of the Rebellion?
>>1708558Yes but they needed to take Gulltown to ship Robert down to the Stormlands so he was there for the battle along with Jon.
>>1708326>What weaponMorningstar and heavy shield, we distinguish ourselves in battle and demand fear and respect.>TourneyWe engage in the melee, jousting isn't a true test of skill.>What sort of HorseWe ride a Courser, deep black and powerful.>Valyrian swordNo way, we dream about it though.>GloryLandon helped Gulltown get taken, he slew Vale Knights there like it was nothing, NOTHING.
>>1708552SupportingMaybe our personal quest can be trying to find the sword as we see it as rightfully ours
Wonder how we feel about Lyn Corbray considering we might have fought at the Taking of Gulltown.
>>1708435>>1708552Mace+Shield combo please. Also I want us to have some weird quirk, like we're really good at fishing or something. Just something to do on the down time.
Hey lads, just got home. Let me get settled in and we'll start with character creation.
Alright so, to begin with, we have Landon's core traits. A Goal, Motivation, Virtue, & Vice. The majority seems to want to go the honorable Knight route, so we can pick things that would apply to such a character. Or we can roll for it and have an absolute mess on our hands. But that never really works out too well. If you're aware of how SIFRP works, you also pick an archetype for your character. Warrior, Leader, Schemer, Expert, and Rogue. Landon is so ridiculously a Warrior that I doubt there isn't much to discuss on the matter. So yeah, feel free to ask questions and discuss. Make suggestions for what our most honorable of Knights should be.
>>1710059I think we decided on somewhat of a mix of these two>>1707024>>1707189So for Goal it would be Fame, motivation Duty, Virtues Pious and courageous, and Vices arrogant and ambitious.
Rolled 1, 12, 6, 5 = 24 (4d12)>>1710059Just to see what we roll up>>1710075 is what im probably going for
>>1710059>>1710075I think our Goal should be power, motivation excellence, virtue Pious and Vices ambitious. We are pass duty thanks the late lord Earp.
>>1710094I meant for duty to the gods since their was no option for faith up there.
>>1710093>goal>enloghtenment>motivation>madness>virtue>honest>vice>cowardlyUnless we want to be a complete cluster fuck who plans on crashing the whole vale with no survivors just to prove that the 7 love us most, i think not
>>1710075>>1710094I would agree on Ambitious over arrogant. I think the Faith would frown upon blatant arrogance.Virtue definitely seems to be Pious. That's pretty easy. Goal and Motivation agreement?
>>1710103I think excellence serves the same purpose, is an standard set by the gods.
>>1710059Goal: Fame, Power or goodVices: AmbitiousVirtues: PiousMotivations: Excellence or Duty
>>1710129I like the idea of the character being very arrogant since it gives him a feel that he's ambitious because he believes the Seven created him for a grand purpose. Sure the septons might say we're wrong for thinking it, but we know the truth.
>>1710145Or we could be very Ambitious knowing the Seven made us for a grand purpose, so we reject the motive that we are meant for a boring life in the fields. So we're so Ambitious that it causes arrogant.
>>1710173Personally it just comes down to if you want him to be more ambitious or arrogant at this point, and personally I find being more arrogant interesting.
>>1710075Virtue is piousVice is either arrogant (the 7 made us for a greater purpose :^)) or ambitious Motivation should be excellence or duty Goal is fame
>>1710185I think the opposite, an arrogant person is content and secure of itself. An ambitious person wants more. The later is more dynamic than the later.
Alright let's put it to a vote:Goal:>Power>FameVice:>Ambituous>ArrogantMotivation:>Excellence>DutyPlease pick only one for each option.
>>1710199Goal: FameVice: ArrogantMotivation: Excellence>>1710195In most cases yes, but this one is our arrogance making us think we're the most important person imaginable so we have to fulfill this destiny.
Can't wait to see how Landon reacts to the Faith Militant and all the religious orders come back.
>>1710243>Can't wait to see how Landon reacts to the Faith Militant and all the religious orders come back. He's going to get them under his banner, more men to fight for him. With high morale due to being Zealots. We do have to train them.
>>1710253They are sworn directly to the faith, taking them would be pretty heretical. Helping train them would be fun though.
>>1710257Training them would be fun, and maybe giving them a safe haven. I think that's the most we can do that's not heretical, we'll be seem like a ally of the light or something cool like that.Who knows we could bring the 7 to Essos in the future.
Fame, Ambitious, Pious, and Excellence. That is certainly an interesting combination there. I believe the Fame motivation can reasonably be somewhat fulfilled on the onset. But likely not in the way Landon wishes it to be. Should probably specify what exactly he wishes to be excellent at though. Excellence in True Knighthood? In being the best damn House leader he can? The best warrior around? Anyway, next step. We need to determine Landon's age. Now, this will give us our Starting EXP and from there we will build the characters stats. Remember it is 288AC, so he needs to be at a reasonable age to have been the commander of Lord Earp's army and he's right hand man in 283AC during the Rebellion. So consider that when thinking of his age, what age he was Knighted at, etc.
>>1710293We want to be an example of Excellence for all the faithful to marvel at and do honor to the Gods. For age probably 26 with him being knighted after his 17 birthday for winning a trial by combat for lord Earp against the Mountain clan champion.
>>1710293>27Knighted at 21 or 18
>>1710308Didn't read this post, before posting.Supporting
>>1710308>>1710331>>1710345Easy enough then, 26 puts us in the Adult category and gives Landon 210 EXP to start with. For reference, starting on Page 53 is the descriptions of the Abilities and what they do, entail and what specialties lie with them. All abilities start at a base 2. To raise an ability to 3 you will need to spend 10 EXP, to 4 spend 40 EXP, 5 spend 70 EXP, etc. Example, spending 70 EXP will bring Fighting from 2 to 5. Pretty basic concept there. As a Warrior you'll want to focus on Fighting, Athletics, Agility, Animal Handling, Awareness, Endurance, and Warfare.A small note, you can downgrade one ability to 1 for an additional 50 EXP. But be warned that ability means you are an absolute idiot at it. If it ever comes up you are guaranteed to fail it. This is one of the more complex things, or at least I think it is, so questions, as always feel free. I've done this several times so I know what I'm doing with it.
>>1710451Alright if we up all our ability to 3 that's 190 EXPLeaving 20 EXP
>>1710485>>1710485You did that completely wrong. What we are doing right now is raising Ability scores, the leftmost column on Table 4-1, those 19 core scores are what we are spending our EXP on.Afterward, we will spend an additional amount of EXP on Specialities.
>>1710451Alright4 to Fighting4 to Warfare3 to Will4 to Endurance3 to Athletes4 to Agility3 to Athletic3 to Persuasion3 to Will-50 3 skills-160 4 skills210 skills used
>>1710504>-50 3 skills>-160 4 skillsYou completely lost me with that part.
>>1710451Fighting 5: 70Shield 3: 10Long Sword 4: 30Endurance 5: 70Warfare 3: 10Will 3: 10Courage 3: 10
>>17105185 skills increased to 3. Cost us 50EXP4 Skills increased to 4. Cost us 160 EXPAdded together is 210 EXP used
>>1710485I'll support this.
>>1710504I support this
>>1710533Oh right, right. Got it now. Yeah that's a totally viable layout. >>1710530Still not doing that right. Shield, Long Sword and Courage are not core abilities, they're Specialities. Only the core abilities in the leftmost column, i.e. Atheltics, Awareness, Fighting, Will, etc. those are what we're spending the EXP on.
>>1710504I support thisMy old post mess up on the number
>>1710504Actually I'll support THIS.
>>1710555Okay now I get you I though we had to spend on both of them at once.
>>1710451Agility 3Animal Handling 3Athletics 4Awareness 3Endurance 3Fighting 4Marksmanship 3Persuasion 3Status 3Warfare 3Will 340 left, either get Status 4 and Cunning 3 or up Fighting 5 and Survival 3
>>1710573>either get Status 4>>1710573Oh right forgot to mention. Like most of the /tg/ and /qst/ quests you don't need to spend any EXP on Status. Landon will start with a base 3 status and can work on raising it through his actions and building his House.
>>1710585Here a question, the more things we, do can we improve our core abilities?
>>1710504I'll back it.
>>1710592Yes, you will gain EXP throughout the quest. For your actions, deeds, etc.Win a Melee gain some EXP, convince someone important to do you a favor or purchase your stuffs gain some EXP, and etc. You'll see how it works out as we play.
>>1710504Okay then, this layout seems popular enough. It's a pretty good setup overall. Kind of average for your typical PC but hey, that makes it more fun in my opinion. If I could make a few suggestions though?Flip, Athletics and Agility, you get more damage with a higher Athletics given the type of weapons people were talking about earlier. Raise Fighting to 5 and drop Warfare to 3. A 5 in Fighting makes more sense for a PC with a backstory of single combat making his name. We don't have to do these things, but those are my suggestions for Landon to be a bit more efficiently built.
>>1710673Sounds good to me.
>>1710673I have to agree. We should focus on being a beast on combat.
>>1710673I agree with those changes. My layout was more like what the base of our person would be.
>>1710673Agree man. Also when you gonna' get a QM name, all the cool dudes have names.
>>1710679>>1710683>>1710705Good good. So Landon is a seriously good fighter. Sword arm is strong as hell. Can take a seriously good beating with that endurance. But he has some failings. He isn't able to read for one, which honestly I find to be totally acceptable for the character. It makes sense given how he was brought up. He's not particularly cunning or deceptive either, just isn't part of his game. Very straight and narrow sort. I think he'll be fun to play.Anyway, next up is our specialties. As you saw in the previous graphic that goes along with each Ability. These provide a single bonus dice to the pool when testing abilities. Example, a 5 in Fighting, with a 2 in Bludgeons means you roll a 4D+2B when using a mace or something similar, which is roll 6 keep the best 4. You'll see it quite often in game. So as an Adult Landon gets 80 Speciality Experience. It costs 10 to raise a specialty to 1B, 20 to 2B, and etc. As a warrior you'll want to focus on your given weapons, so Long Blade, Shields, Bludgeons, etc. Strength for bonus damage with the proper weapons, Resilience, and Command. You may also look to shore up some of your weaknesses with a bonus die in places you might find yourself lacking. As always, questions feel free.
>>1710832Can we also be a tall motherfucker? I feel like being taller than others would be oh so enjoyable. Also let's up that Bludgeon to 3B, what do you guys say?
>>17108323 in Longblades3 in Shields 2 in ReputationAll we've ever know is fighting and people would know us from being Earp's champion and what we did during the Taking of Gulltown.
>>1710832>a 5 in Fighting, with a 2 in Bludgeons means you roll a 4D+2B when using a mace or something similar, which is roll 6 keep the best 4Just change that to a, "4 in Fighting" and the example is correct.
>>1710832Long Blade 4 skill (40)Shield 2 skill (20)Brawling 1 skill (10)Dagger 1 skill or Crossbow 1 skill (10)
>>1710832New list4 in Longblades2 in Shields 2 Dodging
>>17108323 in Longblades3 in Bludgeon2 in Brawling. That gives us a nice bit of coverage.
>>17108324 in Longblades2 in Shields 1 in Dodging1 in Brawling
Ehh I'm kind of over super tall PCs. Bordain and Blackett were both giants among men. 6'0"- 6'2" is the range I was thinking. You're born of common stock for the most part, you aren't exactly breed for the super taller motherfucker sort of build.>>1710860>>1710879I would highly suggest against spending points in multiple weapons. It's a waste really. Pick one and stick with it, while shoring up some other areas. Weapon+Shield is fine just not weapon+weapon.
>>1710886HmmThat is something I could support anon.
>>1710893Okay then changing to >>1710886 cause that looks pretty good.
>>1710886Dodge is sort of ehh if you aren't a lightweight fighter. The test to dodge all incoming attacks will usually leave you weaker if you're a heavily armored character. You won't find a lot of use for it. And Brawling doesn't seem that honorable to me.
>>1710920Switch out Dodge 1 for Brawling 2 then. And damn right it isn't honorable, sometimes you gotta' get dirty.
>>1710920I don't think we're going for super honorable, we were in the past but being a champion for Earp slowly destroyed it over his bullshit. Not saying we're Tywin or Littlefinger, but not Ned either.
>>1710936>>1710938>>1710920How about 5 in Long Sword, so we cut down the enemies before they can make the attack?
>>1710943What about a 1 in Parry actually?
Alright, step back. You guys are thinking a bit too specialized. Having a good handful in a weapon and shield is fine. But you need to branch out to other areas otherwise Landon is going to be utterly useless in anything other than a fight. Which not everything is going to be.I wouldn't recommend taking both brawling and a weapon. It pigeons holes you too much. Gotta think outside of fighting.
>>1710956We don't have much experience outside of fighting from what our background feels like. We have to learn how to lead and be a lord since we would have no experience in it. Sure its going to make shit harder, but it'll make the story more interesting.
>>1710949I would agree either 1 in parry or having 5 Long Sword. But thinking about it, we don't need to parry if we wreck the other guy. It goes with the story of us being a good swordman.>>1710956Alright.4 in Long Sword2 Shield1 Stewardship1 ConvinceEither take off the 2 shield for 1 brawling and 1 Command
>>1710858Going with this.
>>1710956Mmmkay what about 3 in Longswords1 in Shields2 in Hunting or Fishing(At least then we have something to shoot the shit with other characters, cause a majority of fuckers love hunting and fishing)2 in Convince.
>>1710965I'm not saying entirely outside of being a warrior. Strength and Resilience are key parts of a warrior build with the right Benefits and weapons. Command helps you in large scale warfare. There are other specialties there that will make you a better fighter other than just going all in on a weapon. And Landon having something like Convince or Bargain helps him just a little bit.
>>17109563 Bludgeon2 Shield 1 Strength1 Reputation1 CommandThese Bludgeon benefits are fucking OP as shit.
>>1711010Hmmmm.Does hitting with the Shield count as a bludgeon? Does the pommel count as one? If so I'll go with this guy.
>>1710956Bludgeons 3BShields 1BReputation 1BTrack 2B gotta find those Mountain mensCommand 1B
>>1710973I support this
>>1711019Shit this this this!My vote's for this.
>>1711019>BludgeonsBut we're not using a blunt weapon
>>1711019Why would we be sent tracking? We aren't a scout and a swornsword/champion is expected to stay by their lord's side at all times.
>>1711051Our lord got drunk a lot?
>>1710973>>1711010>>1711019Are all actually pretty good in my opinion. But I think we need to do a vote on something very important.Weapon?>Bludegon>Long Sword From there we can finish Landon up.
>>1711066BludgeonThey're they best outside of axes for benefits
>>1711066>BludgeonMace man, come on. Swords are for proper lords and Knights, we're not drunk on that shit no more.
>>1711066>>Long SwordThe true weapon any faithful warrior of the seven would yield.
>>1711066>Long SwordBest weapon to cut down peasants and nobles alike.
>>1711066>>BludegonBecause it's like our character: simple yet brutally effective
>>1711090This guy gets it.
>>1711082Not in this game. Long Swords are weak as fuck and the benefits suck. Bludgeons are made of pure murder.
>>1711093OP is also using homebrew rules. The sword is a symbol, and I will keep my choice. Fits our person much better.
>>1711066OP will lords and knights look down on us if we use a Bludegon weapon?
>>1711108>>1711110Whoopee, another sword and shield character. I kid I'm sure we'll have fun.
>>1711103Uhh not those sorts of homebrew rules. I stick to combat and character stuff pretty much to the book. Strictly speaking, other anon is right. But I won't voice my opinion on what weapon we should or should not pick.
>>1711113Yes, until you destroy them inside their armors.
>>1711119I mean their is a pretty good reason almost every single civilization in history used swords.
>>1711132I'm not doubting the usefulness of the blade, I'm giving props to the mace for being effective as well. Plus we can shatter swords with it. So...
can i have a short summary about what had been done?
>>1711113Robert used a warhammer the size of a man. So... No.Either way, I suppose Long Swords win. Sword and board it is. So let's put a 3B in Long Swords and a 2B in Shields since that seems a popular combo so far. Leaving us with 30 more points to spend.Reputation, Command, and Track? One each?
>>1711144i dont wanna a valyrian mace
>>1711147Reputation 2 and command 1. We wouldn't be sent to track things since we would be defending the lord.
>>1711147One more SwordOne CommandOne Reputation
>>1711147Reputation and Command.
>>1711155I would want us to have one more in Sword. But that can be upgraded in time.So support
Op confirmed ded
Sorry about the delay, had to crop and whatnot. And the will of the majority rules. Reputation is a tricky one I'll admit but it will make you fare in intrigue a lot better considering your situation otherwise. And Command is just generally good overall. Very useful for large scale warfare. Okay, so now that that painful process is over we can move onto something else entirely. Benefits. So as an Adult Landon gains 4 Destiny Points. Destiny Points are your "get out of jail free" card in a game that will fuck you royally if you aren't careful. Automatically and for free Landon gains the "Head of House" benefit. He is allowed to take three more. There is an extensive list of them in picture related. For more information on each begins on Page 74 of the core rule book.As a warrior you will want to pick up some warrior related benefits but be careful with some. Weapon Mastery will only give you a +1 to Damage, which can be far more easily done by increasing your Athletics and not spending a Destiny Point. So beware of trap benefits as it were. I would suggest Armor Mastery, it is ridiculously good. Shield Mastery is also good given you have dumped some points there. So yeah, as always questions and concerns, more information if needed, etc.
>>1711269Anointed due to how much the faith matters to us, Long blade fighter I for our experience with them, and Armor master for our experience with heavy armor as expected of a knight.
>>1711269Our four Destiny Points>Head of House (Fixed)>Armor Mastery>Blood of Valyria or Blood of First Man>Improved Armor Mastery
>>1711269can you list or link the "qualities" we already chosen?>>17112923 more?
>>1711292Going to have to nix Blood of Valyria and First Men. Neither applies to a Valeman. And Improved AM isn't really all that good. It's one of those previously mentioned trap options.
>>1711290Anointed or Attractive sound good...
>>1711296??? You haven't chosen any, not sure what you're getting at there.
>>1711300i thought some Vale house boast themselve as the first men>>1711312i meant the things listed in Requirements
>>1711300Shit you are right>Still, combined with its isolated mountainous terrain, noble families from the Vale are said to have among the purest Andal bloodlines within Westeros. A few noble families from other regions can match them for this, but no other region taken as a whole. We need to take blood of Andal to be lucky>>1711269>Armor Mastery>Blood of Andal
>>1711317Ah alright, I get you. Here we are.>>1711323Blood of the Andals is actually pretty decent.>>1711308Both of those are pretty good as well.
>>1711323>Head of House (Fixed)>Armor Mastery>Blood of the Andals>Anointed
>>1711344thx >Head of House (Fixed)>Armor Mastery>Blood of Andal>Shield Mastery>Annoited>Long Sword 1>Stubborn
>>1711344Blood of AndelArmor Mastery AttractiveWe're going to need looks to get a good wife. Also rolling and added luck.
Alright, Armor Mastery seems a lock. Not surprised it is literally one of the best benefits for a warrior.Blood of the Andals seems popular as well. Pic related is the full breakdown of it. I assume we'll be picking Fighting as our reroll ability. It also opens up a whole host of storyline possibilities, as to whose blood the Grallners descend from. Whose blood is in Landon? Fun stuff. But otherwise, we're kind of all over. Anointed seems popular? As does Shield Mastery and Attractive.
>>1711421anointed seem a must if it refers to being a knightShield is very common though
>>1711421I go with AttractiveAbility I think Fighting
>>1711430You don't need to take Anointed to be a Knight. It is just referring to Knights who have taken sworn vows, sacred oils, and received the whole ceremony of Knighthood. It is definitely something a pious character would cherish but it does not make the Knight.
>>1711430You need to get Sponsor before getting Anointed.
>>1711437Can you make a vote of the last destiny point
I wonder anons, did Landon have any heroes growing up? Maybe someone like Bonifer Hasty, Duncan the Tall, Galladon of Morneor Artys Arryn?>>1711421Still say Anointed since we have been knighted in the past.
>>1711440Oh no I'd House rule that one away. Oh just give it to you for free, Sponsor literally doesn't do anything else so it doesn't hurt me to give it to you guys. We'd just have to come up with a proper character that sponsored young Landon's accentuation to True Knighthood. >>1711447Sure why not.How to spend the last DP?>Anointed>Attractive>Shield Mastery>None, save for laterPlease pick one and only one.
>>1711448I say Attractive, it allow rerolls in persuasion if we get 1.
>>1711448>I wonder anons, did Landon have any heroes growing up? Maybe someone like Bonifer Hasty, Duncan the Tall, Galladon of Morne>or Artys Arryn? Our dad
>>1711440>>1711437my bad. but it must have went through the complete process considering his house and not in the North.>>1711454shield
>>1711454Anointed, and if you wanted it could have been by Jon or Robert after the Taking of Gulltown.>>1711455Mechanically its better, but its anointed is much more in character since we are super pious.
>>1711454First pick >AttractiveSecond Pick>Anointed>>1711464It's my second pick, I like it better than shield
>>1711464>Jon or Robert after the Taking of Gulltown. No it would have had to have been someone in his youth. The Knight he was squire to or Lord Earp. Either way, irrelevant. We'll go with Attractive. Landon happened to get the best of his mother and father. Sister did as well. Not being properly annointed in the light of the seven is something of a sticking point for Landon. He was viciously jealous of the young Earp heir when he was without being half the Knight that Landon was. Deep inside he knows that is part of the fuel that burns his ambitions.
>>1711501Can we still be Annointed in the future?
>>1711501I like this.
>>1711501I can dig it
>>1711501Earp sure built up the resentment in us alot.
>>1711509Maybe is all I can say in that regard. I'd have to do it right and Landon would have to do something particularly amazing to be re-Knighted as it were.Anyway, last thing we're going to do tonight because I'm getting tired. All Adult characters start with at least 1 Drawback. Picture related are your options. A Flaw can be to any of the core 19 abilities, such as Cunning, Survival, Deception, etc.You must pick one. Questions regarding the full breadth of these Drawbacks feel free to ask or look it up starting on page 91. Also obviously some of these aren't viable options like bastard born or dwarf so let's not waste our time are the silly things.
>>1711532Can we do two?
>>1711532Either Nemesis or Threatening.
>>1711532Bound to the bottle
I'm back, and progress was made I see>>1711532Threatening
>>1711532Haunted, we kill someone for Earp who didn't deserved it.
>>1711545You may do two, yes. If you do you will gain a Destiny Point.
>>1711582Alright then, Nemesis (Mountain Clan chieftan who wants our mine) and haughty.
>>1711582>Nemesis>Threatening>Haunted(Cause we killed someone for Earp who didn't deserve it)Two out of those three for me then.
You guys really should download the pdf and read up on these things. Threatening is not at all a benefit to you or cool guy mode, pic related. You will not do well if everyone you meet in an intrigue has to deal with you spitting poorly rolled venom at them.
>>1711532>Lascivious >Haunted >Ignoble Pick two of three
>>1711615Oh.Well then my votes are>Nemesis>Haunted
>>1711632This or Nemesis alone.
Alright, I'll let you guys do Haunted and Nemesis. But the deal is I get to choose the Nemesis. You won't know who they are and I'll be using him as a plot point. Deal?
>>1711642Oh fuck that. Our awareness is already shit. We'll get ambushed every time we walk out the gates. And we don't have any Memory dice to make it worthwhile. Just go with Nemesis and be done with it.
>>1711642Take out Haunted we need the Awareness, go with just Nemesis or something else
>>1711664>>1711648How about haughty?
>>1711676Haughty would mean we look down upon our own damn family. Jesus Christ read the fucking book. Just go with Nemesis
>>1711642Agreed. I like a challenge.
>>1711689And you realize they all become noble by being related to us right?
>>1711689>>1711676We could go with Debt as well, since we took over the castle, we also took on the Debt of the past owner.
>>1711689Haughty works pretty well with our character.
>>1711709I just want to go with Nemesis and that's it.
>>1711712Yeah, just Nemesis.
>>1711712Me too, but if people insist on adding other flaw Haughty is a good option.
>>1711712Why? Nemesis isn't a character flaw its just a preset enemy. Having a character flaw is better for roleplaying.
>>1711689>>1711697Ehhh he's kind of right. Your mother was common-born, father doesn't have any noble blood in him except for his own grandfather who married a distant Earp cousin. Even if they "become noble" it would still be people going beyond their station in life. Honestly the only people I'm treating as noble in the family is Landon's generation. So Leianna, Landon, Lincoln, and Liam. I don't like Haunty for Landon personally. Doesn't fit the sort of character I'm imagining or planning out.
>>1711723Just go with Nemesis OP. Maybe it was Earp next in line or something
>>1711721Exactly! Having a Nemisis is not a flaw, it's a plot hook.
>>1711723What is the character your imagining? Since it honestly seems different than whats being talked about between anons?
>>1711723I agree with only having Nemeis
Yeah, alright it looks like only having a Nemesis is the more popular opinion. If I had to pick the flaws Landon had I would have said Honor-Bound, a holdover from his younger days, Ignoble, even if the reputation isn't particularly deserved, or Supreme Arrogance since arrogant seemed popular earlier. If you guys feel like arguing that out further be my guest. I'm going to have to knock off here in a minute so I'll check in tomorrow and we'll see what happened. Either way, Landon is mostly built. I'll equip him myself, since that's just more dry nonsense. Maybe tomorrow we'll have a little bit of story to start us off and get the ball rolling, yeah? One last thing, pic related is the extent of the Grallner family as of right now. I'm starting to put together the Grallner Household, not a lot of people about honestly. Only one person of note, Lady Wylla Earp. The last living heir of House Earp resides in the castle still as a ward/hostage. She is a girl of 9 and has very little left in life and her fate is now left in Landon's hands.Oh, and someone come up with a decent fucking name for the castle already. Griffon's Roost? Griffort? I don't fucking know.
>>1711768Their was votes for Griffon Hall or Griffin Hall something like that.
>>1711768>Oh, and someone come up with a decent fucking name for the castle already. Griffon's Roost? Griffort? I don't fucking know.Earp's Fall.

I miss Father. I hope he returns and we finally get Langward to fucking trial.
>>1711721>>1711730I agree with you, its the lamest option. Unless of course one of >>1711768>Honor-Bound, a holdover from his younger days, Ignoble, even if the reputation isn't particularly deserved, or Supreme Arrogance since arrogant seemed popular earlieris chosen.
>>1712256Honorbound is something I van agree with.
>>1711768>Oh, and someone come up with a decent fucking name for the castle already. Griffon's Roost? Griffort? I don't fucking know.>>1711782Castles are rarely if ever renamed (just read the books). So the name is most likely a holdover from the Earp days aka not griffin-related. Besides, if you took a look here http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Category:Castles you'd know that Griffin's Roost already exists.I like Whitestone Keep and Tombstone myself.Or maybe RiverdaleGrimtollThe QuarryWedgemoreLongford
>>1712256I'd be happy with any of those three. Nemisis is just meh.
>>1712269I agree with this
>>1712269I like the names or slight adjustments eg WhitefordRiverstoneGrimstoneRivermoreGrim Keep Wedgedale
>>1711817Voting for this.
>>1712256I'd be fine with any of the three
So what sort of priorities are we going to set here? Our Household is pretty sad and pathetic, think we need to get a Maester ASAP. Who the hell even reads for Landon? Or collects his letters? Military could use some work as well, a lot of Green troops. Should we fluff them? Does Landon even have any friends?
>>1712942Getting a wife would be a good idea.
>>1712942Clearly we have the confidence of the household or else we couldn't have gotten away with what we did to the lord Earp. Mathew Stone the current steward and a friend of our father reads our letters and manages most the details of the household.
>>1712959Nah, I could go for the maester first. We also need to learn to read and write soon.
>>1712966>Trusting the MaestarsAll we need is a good septon to advise us.
>>1712942considering that we're just a knightly house, I doubt we'll be able to get a maester. It would make sense for our dad to have done the reading for us before his mind degenerated, but it depends when the dementia kicked in.First thing should be working on Law, our smallfolk probably aren't that happy with us. A campaign rooting out bandits and tribesmen would also let us blood our troops.Did we ever decide what our mine produces? I like the idea of silver, as it goes against our militaristic character. Would open us up to some intrigue and trade negotiation, opposed to an iron mine that would have mostly internal ties. Plus, we can give out silver chased arms and armor as gifts with a silver mineI'd like to buy some heavy infantry next time we get new troops as well, because they're well made for fighting in the mountains of the Vale
>>1712972>we're just a knightly house, I doubt we'll be able to get a maesterHaving a maester is a matter of prestige, we have to get one if we want to be someone.
>>1712942>So what sort of priorities are we going to set here? Our Household is pretty sad and pathetic, think we need to get a Maester ASAP. Who the hell even reads for Landon? Or collects his letters?I think we should opt for a Septon instead of a Maester.>Military could use some work as well, a lot of Green troops. Should we fluff them?I like to think that the reason the troops are green is that the older veterans joined the former master-at-arms, our uncle, in taking the black. Less for loyalty to the former master, but more loyalty in our uncle.>Does Landon even have any friends? He did. Then they went to the wall.
>>1712942We are about as notable as the freys if i remeber correctlySo people know about us and our deeds, some respect us but others don'tAlso>trusting the maestersWe should hold offMaybe get a septon to help us
>>1713060we have an influence of 36, which is only on par with House Karstark or Clegane. Frey has an influence in the 40s.we should look into building a sept when we get the money, would help our house fortune rolls as well
>>1713112That's still notableBaiscally everyone in the vale knows of us
>>1712942>Does Landon even have any friends?I like to think he made some friends while fighting in Robert's Rebellion.
>>1713161yeah, was just pointing out that we aren't as influential as the Freys. Given how many heirs Frey has, he could've had a triple digit influence if he didn't pump out kids like a rabbit.
I hope op is still going to run tonight.
>>1713978More than likely not. Again work ran late and I just got home. I'm going to work on the House some, Household and the albeit small history. And yeah come up with some friends for Landon. The first official thread should be this coming Sunday actually. I want to get a first story arc set up that'll lead us into the Greyjoy Rebellion. I'm actually considering not involving any marriage options right off the bat, so Landon can discover himself a bit more and build up his reputation beyond, "Knight man good with sword and pushing people out windows."Speaking of, Whitestone Keep seems popular enough so we'll go with that. If you're curious about the vague likeness of the castle I'm basing it off of Masyaf Castle, particularly that from Assassin's Creed Revelations. If you're unfamiliar with the game watch the trailer and near the end you'll get a good idea of where the betrayal occurred. At least how I'm envisioning it. I like the idea of hiring a Septon before a Maester. I think that's an interesting choice and makes the House a bit different than our usual fare. Having a zealously religious MC should be fun. If anyone wants to contribute fluff or particulars of our lands, castle, history, etc. Feel free I'll be around for questions if there are any. Oh and are people okay with the motto, "Justice Soars"? I think it is apt if a little on the nose but I like it solely for that reason.
>>1714113How about "Forever Faithful"?
>>1714113Yea I like it
>>1714113I like it,
>>1714113Yeah this is good.Would people be interested in our house using hussar wings?
>>1714220Maybe for jousting, but we seem much more like an on foot kind of guy and those built wings would be a massive target.
>>1714113>Justice SoarsI like it.
>>1714113Fall of Pride?Heavy Hubris?Hunting Sky?Honor's WrathDeath as light as a feather
>>1714230Seems like even just for jousting it could be a fun house quirk
>>1714113For the castle, I would imagine that it's an old fort from before the Andal Invasion that got built up over the centuries. The name of the castle comes from the original "keep" that lies beyond the curtain wall that was constructed from white stones in the manner of pic related. It was replaced by a traditional square keep by House Earp after the Andal Invasion. Despite the new keep being made of simple grey granite, the name remains
>>1714282>>1714113Something like this?
Fair enough then, I think it's a good motto personally. Hits all the right beats. A healthy reminder of where House Grallner came from and a good strong Valeman motto similar to House Arryns. I imagine Landon takes pride in it but is also that little voice in the back of his mind. Oh another thing, I decided to take off the Coast feature on your Lands Domain. I always viewed coasts to be purely referring to being against a massive body of water. Such as the Sunset or Narrow Seas. Since we're inland and just against the river which we own a part of it doesn't seem as necessary. So that's 3 Lands back to you guys. Sit on it, or spend it. Doesn't matter much. But sitting on it for another Domain might be a good idea when you plan on expanding your production beyond silver. Speaking of, usually Valuable Mines don't entail Silver. They reach their upper limit at semi-precious gemstones and iron. But, what I'll do is say that the Mine is capable of producing silver. Enough that it is valuable but not considered rich. If you want to expand your mining operations someday you can pay the 5 Wealth to push into a Rich Mine territory and get the fully fledged benefits of a silver mine. So, in essence, the Mine Foreman has found veins of silver and they've begun to pick at it, it is making the House money but he knows it could be producing so much more with the proper investments.>>1714282That's actually incredibly similar to the idea I had for it. The old keep is still there and is the center of the garden more or less where a Weirwood used to live surrounded by its walls. The Earps and now Grallners use the newly constructed Andal esque keep which is what is more similar to Masyaf Castle. The area is actually an incredibly historic area given that the old Whitestone is still in good conditions, sans Weirdwood. And the garden is considered beautiful during the Spring and Summer with the Keep in the background. Though not so much now given that it has fallen into disrepair from Lord Emmerst Earp's gambling and lack of care for his castle.
>>1714302Or this with a second wall directly bellow the keep?
>>1714305What do you think about the idea of Landon having a hero or two growing up from either famous knights of the time (like Bonifer Hasty or Barristan) or famous historical knights (like Galladon or Artys)?
>>1714305Only just found this thread today, but this quest looks top tier. It's rare to see decent GoT quests, and even rarer to see good ones, so I really hope you stick around, QM. You seem reasonable, and you've laid the foundation for what I think will be a sterling gameEspecially liking how you're taking the time to construct a believable background that isn't speshul snowflake or utterly bland. Landon isn't joe blow, but he isn't OC donut steel either
>>1714326could his hero be Sir Duncan the Tall? It fits with his common background and respect for the ideals of knighthood. Even though Duncan was just a hedge knight's squire, he was able to rise to the leader of the King's Guard and had plenty of adventures that exemplify knighthood.Drawing a blank of famous religious figures in Westros, aside from baelor the blessed
>>1714358I do like the idea of having a hero we looked up to.>>1714230With regard to massive targets the baratheons did wear helmets with deer horns on them
>>1714358Dunk would be pretty cool to see as a hero. As far as religious figures you had Galladon or Morne who was so valorous that the Maiden feel in love with him. >>1714378Of course and I remember during one of the tourneys there was a knight who would break fancy helmets and collect the designs to sell.
>>1714326>>1714358I feel if Landon had a hero it would be a Warrior's Son. Such as Ser Damon 'the Devout' Morrigen. Or someone very similar. The only thing is, Landon wasn't raised on Lordly tales and songs of valor. He was taught his words by the old Septon before he passed away and Emmerst never bothered to replace him. The Maester took no interest in the son of a steward. And so Landon was mostly on his own. He attended the occasional service when a traveling Septon would stop by. He took to the sword under his uncle's tutelage for having not much else in life beyond a strong sword am.
>>1714392Would we know any of the Vale knights from the Melees we competed in?
>>1714378it might be my armor autism, but I've always pictured the Baratheon horns swept back and made fragile enough that they'll break off before they could hurt the wearer in a fight. speaking of, how much armor do we want Landon to like? I'm partial to brigandines, for a couple reasons. They are cheaper than plate, so it might be all a steward could afford for his son, while still protecting well. Lord Earp probably didn't bother to outfit all his men with top of the line, as a cost saving measure. With his gambling debt(assuming that's canon), he would've been looking to save wherever he could.Second, they look amazing, though black and white armor looks nice as well. If people like the blue and gold house colors, we could have a brigandine that matches them while still being fashionable. I like blue and silver, but that's me being thematic
>>1714535I'd be fine starting out with a Mail and leathes, but I do want to work up to plate like a real knight would have.
>>1714535Nah, one thing Lord Earp did well was equipping us. We were his champion on several duels and trials, it was in his benefit to give us the edge.
>>1714435Landon knows the big names and some of the locals. If they're from House Arryn, Royce, Belmore, Grafton, or Corbray he at least knows their arms. But in general, assume that Landon isn't particularly well versed in names and heraldry. A lot of the time they were just another face in the crowd during Melees. Speaking of, in the years since Robert's Rebellion there have been a handful of Melees about the Vale. Landon isn't much of a traveler but was lucky enough to attend a Tourney hosted by Lord Belmore in Grimarbor, a port town. The money he won from that Melee is what is keeping House Grallner afloat for the past couple of years but it's close to running out and he knows he needs to do something lest the neighboring rivals begin to encroach further upon his lands.
>half the nearby villages babies are actually our bastards
Tell me which one looks better? This one?
>>1714608Or this one?
>>1714608I like this one.
>>1714611>>1714608Can you add some white with that? To see if it's better. The white would be the change you made from yellow to blue
>>1714598nah, that goes against the Seven's teachings. Though there will always be rumors, especially with a young unmarried lord>>1714611I like this one
>>1714632I love it. I like how it blend well together
>>1714632Maybe try some silver instead of white?
>>1714632looks good, made one to test the different colorsluckily, westros doesn't follow all the laws of tincture
>>1714113Love it, very striking image!
>>1714648>Gold on Silver. Please dont. Not unless you are the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
>>1714648I like the griffon tho. So switch out the old griffin with that.
>>1714648Not too big on gold in silver. I like the basic field with the gold griffon on it. Simple and to the point like our Knight.
OP, was there a consensus on what vice we're taking?
>>1714656eh, thought it reflected the religious nature of Landon, though it doesn't have the same history in westrosI'd like to do one with furs, I don't think any quest house has used them. Don't really fit Landon though, I'll have to wait for a northern house
>>1714685AnonI love it, I do like the silver border, it looks more refine.
>>1714685Not a fan of that griffin, the silver border works but I think we need to change the order of the colors.
>>1714713I'm not in love with any of the griffon options, first one is kinda busy, second one is blank, and third just looks silly
>>1714730Most seem to have that busy look
>>1714730I like the border look
>>1714685I like this one the most so far
>>1714681I believe we went with Ambitious. Though that reminds, OP can we get a second vote on a vice?
>>1714790No wait, meant on a Drawback. Not a vice.
>>1714809Sorry, I meant Drawback as well, not Vice.Agree that we need another vote.
okay, these two seem like they have some support behind them. Reply to the one you like the mostalso say if you'd like the griffon to be facing the other way.
>>1714827This one my man
>>1714827This one seems pretty nice.
>>1714827I think this should be the one.
>>1714827>>1714831OP change the blue behind the head, to either white, silver or yellow.Like this one
>>1714845That looks pretty bad to be honest. Too much yellow. And that style of griffin doesn't help.
>>1714854the gold looks good imo with the slimmer griffon
>>1714854The other ones I feel is too much blue. Here is the colors changed
>>1714862the flipped mantle colors is too much silver with the silver border
Are we fully committed to the golden griffon? Could go silver and match the border? Also what's the name of that border that looks like battlements? Could we try that on?
>>1714862I Support this choice. Not overpowering the other colors, while still looking good
>>1714862I like this one.
>>1714869It's a lot of silver, but silver looks good with the black lines on the more complex griffoncan't get the battlements with this heraldry maker sadly
>>1714890I feel good either using this Silver Griffon or the Golden one. Just what do you feel our character would pick, being the Zealot we are.
>>1714895>Just what do you feel our character would pick, being the Zealot we are.It be a rainbow color griffin. I think we can dispense of that.
>>1714914Yes, quite gay indeed.
>>1714895I think silver is the preferred color if we go by the House Sunglass story. "Their blazon is composed by seven golden seven-pointed stars in a ring on white. Originally, George R. R. Martin had envisioned the seven stars being silver, but after seeing the heraldry rendered he considered that silver and white did not differentiate themselves enough."And it works with our mine.
>>1714920I like the gold griffon for aesthetic reasons, no real reason for it.I like the silver border because of how silver surrounds the heraldry, which parallels how Landon sees the Faith of the Seven as surrounding his house. It also works with the mine as well.
Personally, I'm not fond of the silver/white border but >>1714954 provides a fair explanation for it. If we'd like to add the border then I'll allow it.>>1714809>>1714814Yes, on the condition that the Drawback makes sense with the character. If we'd like to go with Ignoble, Honor-Bound, or Supreme Arrogance I'm more than happy to allow it. Haunted really fucks you guys, and Haughty just doesn't jive with me. I'm not sure why, but just not how I see a common-born turned noble character operating. And it really fucks you guys too. >>1714535Actually quite the opposite Landon's only valuable and most prized possession is his full plate. It's a bit rough around the edges, has no fanciful adornments but is well kept. Landon takes time every day to care for it himself, a ritual while he takes morning prayer, especially because he doesn't have a squire.Oh someone mentioned Landon having a dog, and I'm entirely fine with that. Seems like a neat little side thing. I prefer the Wirehaired Pointer Griffon myself. Looks like a Vale sort of dog. Oh, which reminds me, it is currently the tail end of winter right now. A couple more months before spring might start, Landon wouldn't know officially since he has no Maester to receive ravens from the citadel.
>>1715143I personally like what the silver stands for so please. And yes on the Doggo.
>>1715143I'm fine with us having a Nemisis as a (technical) drawback, but I agree that we should have one of these:>Ignoble, Honor-Bound, or Supreme ArroganceBy vote would be for either ignoble or supreme arrogance
>>1715143Oh and an actual drawback that is a character flaw would be great. Any of the three would be fine.
>>1715143Honour-Bound if we have to choose another drawback.
Alright, another drawback seems popular. What I'll do is make it a vote right at the beginning of the first official thread. We'll keep Nemesis and of course get the free Destiny Point. Fair enough on that.I'm having fun planning out the first story arc. And I realize that the House is going to have a hell of a struggle getting on its feet. A lot of good to great rolls for Resources, but not in the places we needed them. This House is going to be a challenge to run. Which I think will be fun.
>>1715177Looking forward to it!This Sunday right?
>my suggestion for House words is chosenThis is a good feeling.
>>1715526>My suggestion for a house name was chosen Gr8 feeling
>>1715565>My suggestions were kinda' shitHmm.
Is there anything left to do?
>>1715675Pretty much just decide on what other drawback we want and then we're ready to go.
>>1715675A fair maiden to which we can pledge our undying love and loyalty to
>>1715680aaaaand it's another Waifu quest
>>1715680>marrying for loveDisgusting.
>>1715711Marry for power is the only way to go.
>>1715717Not for the character we made it isn't.
>>1715711>>1715717Given we're a minor minor minor house with a great castle and a beatstick of a head? We have a much better chance of getting lucky in love AND marrying up. Given we're pretty dang low on the noble pole.
>>1715720>>1715743That's why we play the Game maaaaaaan. Subterfuge and all that good stuff.
>>1715771You realize most people in the setting DON'T play the game. Besides we're a straight forward blunt person, we don't do intrigue.
>>1715771>Beatstick>being good at social gameswe're about as politically savvy as Ned and Rob Stark.
>>1715779>>1715781We'll be fine.
>>1715790Yeah Ned Stark and Rob Stark sure were fine playing politics. Oh wait. We're a martial beatstick like Rob, The Hound the Mountain, Robert Baratheon, etc. Someone else will need to be the politicker and diplomat.
>>1715794Hence let's marry someone for power.
>>1715805We aren't the character to marry for power though.
>>1715875>Ruining the Andal bloodlineAndals are the true holy race.
>>1715875I'd rather we get a Hot Dornish Trap.
>>1715810We are a character to marry for fame and prestige though. Goal: Fame and Vice: Motivation would seem to indicate such. I'm guessing Landon isn't going to be content to marrying at his station or below, probably why he hasn't married in the 5 years after Roberts Rebellion. I think the best plan is to try and find a Tourney for a lesser daughter's hand from one of the big names.
>>1715875nah, we already got one in Malroytime to get a myrish swamp
>>1716680We're a new house, we can't risk the chance of getting FREY'D
>>1716697But anon. They are above our station and if we pick a big one we can get her weight in silver!
>>1716697Strictly speaking it isn't a horrible match. And it ties us into a huge network of Houses. But it is incredibly limiting fame wise
>>1705935House Harrock was the quest that got me into this, I still have the last name of "Harrock" in most games and most settings I play. Artys and Brock are also common names I use. Gotta reread all that some time.
>>1715292Actually, I lied. I'll be running tomorrow, Saturday. Around 4-5 PM EST. The thread will likely run into the next day when I'll run some more. >>1716697>FREY'DOh but why not? They're a very strong and prosperous House. Surely they could offer a suitable bride. Marrying outside of the Vale and your local area is very prestigious as well. Particularly for a new House. And who wouldn't want to get in on that sweet Frey Civil War action. >>1717113Likewise. Harrock was my first quest and first Got quest. I loved the hell out of it and was very disappointed when it ended. I'm actually really glad that we picked the area we did because of the proximity to the other Vale Houses; Bordain and Harrock. Artys' rivalry with the Belmores is something I want to touch on again. Grimarbor is something I stole from Harrock as well. Thinking on it, Landon might actually know Brock 'the Rock' Harrock. Likely met him in a Melee at some point.
>>1717403>tfw The Father suddenly just went up and left
>>1717486I guess he was a black father then.
>>1716188And we're also defined by our piousness and the Gods say that marriage should be because of love.
>>1717720No it doesnt. It just say we should love our wife. Not marry because of love.
>>1717725>>1717720We should get a wife that was good genes for our kids. And of noble status
>>1717113Harrock was top tier, especially in terms of making realistic characters with problems that can't just be solved overnight. Malroy is still my personal fav GOT Quest though. Father just understood how to bring political intrigue into a game. It wasn't distant or boring, nor was it easily changed by the PC's actions, which I think is a common pitfall.I think he lost steam at the end, we lost some of our momentum after getting married and finding our sister. That quest in which we were a House Lannister bannerman was good too. Uncaring father to a bastard son.Never got into Iron & Hate. Bit too easy mode / power game-ish for my tastes.
>>1717743A thing i will keep Father credit for is how he balanced the canon characters. They didnt all line up to suck Malroy cock and be our best friends forever. Only one who really did anything that could be considered friendly without any backthought was Oberyn and even him i am not so sure about
>>1717743>That quest in which we were a House Lannister bannerman was good too. Uncaring father to a bastard son.Who in the what now?
>>1717773Garette Crabhouse (cant remember the family name) He was a skilled military commander and rather old. Was a staunched Lannister supporter.
>>1717773House Bracken. Didn't last as long as it should but Garrette Bracken was an interesting character. Stone cold motherfucker that participated in the culling of the Tarbecks and Reynes.

>>1717403In every ck2 game I've played in the Vale I've always hated on the Belmores, all from that quest and its still as fresh as ever.I'd love to see Brock again and maybe have a friendship or friendly rivalry, any mention of House Harrock would be cool. And even though we're the Belmores bannermen, maybe try take some of that land they stole from back...some day if Landon ever finds out.Very excited for this quest.
