MIRANDA “Well,” and you fix her with a steady eye. “We need to know everything. Your encounters with the phantom, top to bottom. Leave NOTHING out.” You lean back, still never breaking eye contact. “Start from the first time to the most recent. Include everything you’ve done immediately before and after. Alright?” She nods, a bit primly. “Alright, then. The first one, well...I have to admit I wasn’t thinking it was a threat- honestly I just thought Me-Gan was pulling one of her infantile pranks. You know, some sort of thing mocking me and the fact that I like to be professional. So I thought ‘well, I won’t let it get to me,’ and sang back.” Hm. Alright. Decent start.“Give me details. What was the first interaction LIKE?” “I was just messing around, really. I saw someone moving at the little wooded area - you’re well aware of the area around the cloister’s stage.” Purps rolls her eyes, behind the diva’s back. “I carried on with the 3rd number of Alaran’s Call; and then he started singing something from ‘The Opera.’” “And what was that?” you ask further. “The Angel of Music.” She says, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “And you just sang with him?” Purps presses. “Yes; he retreated after the number; everyone else arrived shortly after- which is when I believed that one of my may admirers had managed to sneak into the cloister.” She explains, shaking her bed hair back and forth as if she was overacting; “Well, that, and smitten with me - he desired to sing.” “I don’t know whether your optimism is charming, or your arrogance is stunning.” Purps says rubbing her hair. “HEY!” Alice shouts, fingers sprouting little tiny flames. Oy. “Enough.” They both immediately stop as you keep your eyes on her. “Moving on. Tell us about Billie’s incident.”
>>1583041“Very similar. Just different songs. I wasn’t sure what was going on this time, so I responded more out of curiosity than anything else. Billie was just confused entirely. When the duet proper started, though, she tried to run, and… well, he must have not liked that.” She looks crestfallen, at least. “A noose seemed to sprout from his palm- and it caught Billie by the neck as she tried to escape.” Both Purps and Switchwick look away, “She didn’t last very long at least.” Alice looks down as she finishes somberly. Hm...“And I take it the last time was similar to those two, as well?” She nods. “Anything different about it?” “Well, we were performing... then something made us change our singing. Then it was similar to how you feel when you faint- except...” She pauses; you get the sense that it’s more due to trying to vocalize her thoughts, rather than withholding anything. “When I was slipping away, my magical sense was lighting up like a beacon. Professor always says we’re like large magic batteries; my last memory was noting that it felt like someone was burning themselves out, or going beyond their ability.” That’s very attentive. “So, some kind of drain, maybe…” She shakes her head. “It felt like the opposite, because unless she-” Alice stops, realizing she may have said too much. >Keep talking. Switchwick’s eyes dart between you and your Alice, and you can tell she’s trying to determine how safe it’d be to interfere at the moment. Alice, for her part, seems honestly surprised. As if she didn’t expect you to latch onto that. “W-wait a second, hold on! It’s nothing, I promise, just-” Yeah, no. “Just if it was nothing, you wouldn’t be so shy about telling us. And as a siren and a mage, she’s weak.” Hmm...so some sort of build up she couldn’t release, maybe… “I don’t know, it’s just.” She sighs, “Like. You - I can tell you’re really magical. You’re like an 8 on the scale. Before I passed out, Velth who’s normally less than a 1, was like an 11.” ...you’re actually kind of surprised at that estimation. Still, it’s important to know. “Hm. That’s not good; for a number of reasons.” You lean back, your eyes closed as you mull through the possibilities. Then something dings inside your head- not literally, but good enough. “Hey, out of nowhere, I realize, but...what’s your favorite fictional character?” “Well. That’s a rather difficult choice; there’s so many -” Alice stumbles looking off into the distance. “Gun to your head.” Purps insists. “The Phantom. You move to follow Alice up and make sure nothing happens, but an ever so slight hand gesture stops you. “Switch, the show is at ten, correct?” “Well, yes, but -” She looks as if she’s going to protest to whatever is being got at; she’s quickly interrupted, however. “Verde knows we can’t cancel it; she knows you’ll all starve. But, otherwise you also won’t be able to pay her- so how about you trust her and hear her out?” You interject. She’s not the most pleasant of company, but you can respect her dedication, at least- enough to understand that she’s doing her best. She gives you a look you could confuse for thankful, before she turns back to the lady. “Right. Can you delay opening an hour? Enough for us to do a full run through at six?” Verde suggests. Switchwick fortunately doesn’t seem to be entirely opposed to the idea as she mulls it over. “Well...if you want a full show, the girls will need a break. But... I’ll do what I can to push us back to twelve, and hopefully you can do whatever needs doing in that time.” “So. We’re doing a full show.” You say, honestly not sure if you’re asking a question or not, “We’re baiting this thing out now? Because to be honest I’m not sure if we can kill a storybook character.” “You’d be surprised,” Verde responds drily. “If this is anything like normal fiction-to-reality, we need the girls to see us kill it. My guess is it’s using their fear of it in order to keep coming back. Or something like that, anyway. Basically as long as they keep thinking about it a lot. Meaning we have to give them a reason to not have them think about it.” “So...you’re saying that we need to make a song and dance of this.” You deadpan. >>1590784>>1590787>>1590824>>1590908MIRANDA-timeskip-Alright, then. It’s near showtime, and it’s been kind of a frustrating road so far. After deliberation, it’d been determined that Lexington, with his vast knowledge of magic and spells, would be the most ideal to come with you to keep watch- not to mention he seemed to largely be able to ignore or counteract a lot of Siren issues that seemed to plague most others. Had to figure he constantly had some kind of ward on him or just his magical pressure outdid theirs. Last time you tried to smell him, you coughed. That’s usually a pretty big red flag (not to mention bad smells are bad smells, no matter the reason for them). The theatre itself is huge, the stage sprawling out from a pair of emerald curtains as wide and long as a hallway. The sirens’ crystal lights are studding the bottom of the blackwood like rainbow coloured pearls, dazzling even before magic starts running through their systems. There are dozens of rows of padded seating on the floor level, similar to what you’d expect in a cinema - all resting peacefully under the light of an intricate ancient chandelier that is wrought with silver gold and a handful of metals unknown to you. Up top, above even the artisan designed balconies, are the private boxes. These luxurious enclosed rooms are almost palaces, despite their height being nosebleed worthy they have fully stocked bars, buffets and boast romy leather couches that could easily seat a half dozen. On stage, the sirens look….well. Like shit. You’re not exactly one for high fashion, but seriously. Their costumes are what you would call rags in a generous mood. Except Purps and Switchwick, the former of whom is boasting some kind of dark grey uniform that you’d mostly associate with military; in fact it looks almost exactly like that Honamurei girl’s uniform. The latter is as formal as ever, since she acted as the narrator previously, that’s probably why. You also have no real clue what they’re acting out; never really been one for the stage. That was more Lorelei. Still, maybe you should have read the script… cont.
>>1590930Before you can muse on that much more, the smell of smoke invades your nostrils, and you have to remind yourself to not glare at the old man who’s smoking in clear violation of the theater rules. “So…” you purposefully don’t look his way as he speaks. “What kinda preparations you put together, kid? You seem to be kinda on the ball, but I can tell you some of those tricks of yours might not cut it if’n you haven’t set ‘em up right.” It’s kind of annoying how he’s talking like it’s not obvious, but still...he’s not wrong. You’d done a lot of musing about the issue yourself. Light traps are good to catch people, but you couldn’t obviously place one big one, and placing several small ones around the area meant draining your mana low- it’d pretty much guarantee getting an early shot at any intruders, however. A Zone scanner’s less directly damaging, and far less mana intensive since you can place one giant one or only a couple smaller ones, but you’d at least get advance warning- IF you could sort out any false positives from actual intruders when it comes to people being somewhere they maybe shouldn’t. That’s something you need to work on. Eventually, though, you’d decided on- >Light Traps- multiple in strategic points. The mana cost was annoying (4 placed, start at 7000/11000), but you think it’ll be worth it when it shows up and quite possibly gets a painful reception.>Zone Scanner- one large one (Start with 10,700/11,000), and you’ll keep on mobile patrol to sort out the false positives.>Zone Scanners- multiple (4, start at 9,800/11000), and you’ll be able to pick out false positives far easier, as well as possibly track it if it flees.>Other

Drums slowly fade in as the lights rise, and looking out you see a small orange light. But looking down, looking down you see them. The scum. Criminals and lawbreakers one and all, they toil now in repentance. They are yours. Trumpets blare and water begins to cascade and cash on the stage, a tempestuous morning of grey. Foam crashes in your eyes as the prisoners begin dragging wreckage off of the coast. You allow yourself a satisfied smile at the sweat and grime on their brows during their pathetic shanty. Soon you find yourself face to face with a bearded man. His eyes are wild despite fatigue, his body is welted and bruised. But his spirit is still defiant. Your time is upAnd your parole's begun,You know what that means? The animal tries to smile; ’Yes, it means I'm free.’ He retorts. You lock down the outrage on your face, instead pacing around him at full height, towering over him physically and holding his papers in your hands like a sword. You smack it into his chest; No!It means you getYour yellow ticket-of-leave-You are a thief! He actually begins to argue with you; I stole a loaf of bread. You robbed a house. You correct. Switchwick’s decided to keep her on small parts due to the recent episode has left her a little disappointed- but you insisted on it. >>1591127Was going to put it in the next post, but basically scanners are in the balcony area, near the rearmost exit, stage left, and stage right. Light Trap would be in the pit area right in front of the stage.
>>1591221>>1591167>>1591143>>1591135>>1591127https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QytyoGfwPnY The whole thing isn’t unfamiliar to you. At least...you think. You’re pretty sure you’ve seen this before. Somewhere. Maybe. ...You and plays really aren’t keen on each other, no. You tend to find theatres more battlegrounds than places of culture and relaxation. Shooting galleries with a lot of cover, or places for exhibition duels- not areas where stories are told. Izumi and Lorelei both would probably tsk tsk at you for one reason or another about that. Still, if nothing else, you can tell that the girls are good at what they do- even Purps seems to be into it. You’re not great on plays, but you can at least tell the difference between good and bad acting, and these girls are good. That said, you’re not paying 100% attention to the actual performance; not as if you SHOULD be, anyway. You’re busy keeping an eye on areas like the area right above the stage where the lights are, as well as the chandelier you made certain to not sit under- you’re about three-fourths of the way to the back, not quite under the first box area; enough space for you to either jump up to get a better vantage point, and forward to engage anything that comes on stage at high speed without risking a chandelier drop. You’d marked the most obvious entry points with scanners- the stage facing balcony area that you’re near under, near the rearmost exit further back into the building, stage left, and stage right, where there were both emergency exits. You’d also placed a trap right in front of the stage- you never were sure what that was called, but you noticed people had a tendency to show up right in the front of the stage- where there were no seats. Always seemed to attract the more grandiose types, if they weren’t coming from the stagelights. They soon end the first act (at least you think that’s the first act), and the stage darkens as they rush to redress. This would probably be one of the better times for someone to strike- either now or soon. > Check out an area (Balcony, Backstage or Box) > See if Lex will actually do something (Request Lex to do something, maybe) > Take a lap around the theatre > Write-InThis Summer. >>1591536>>1591504>>1591413>>1591352PURPS Verde makes a sweep right before Alice’s big number. She’s all business as usual, but you don’t think anyone’s going to break in. You’d bet… your rather limited funds that the phantom will appear in some kind of flashy and dramatic way. That could be justification for your own enjoyment and [CURIOSITY] though. From your nightly readings of your own journal, Laurelai was quite the talent as a singer - enough so that she didn’t really need to be a housewife. She… well you also loved this play, specifically playing the role that Alice is playing right now. Connecting with your past is something you haven’t really been able to do, so if you can stand on the underside of this balcony like some kind of weird military bat and watch a song that used to make you cry whilst also doing your job - damn sure you will. At this point in the story Alice’s character has had to sell her hair, teeth and body. She’s at rock bottom and to top it all off; she’s dying. As you watch her weep openly and sit up, only thin strips of cloth covering her perfect yet tarnished form; you prepare yourself for that first high note. Instead; a discordant chord screams through the theatre; the lights turning so cold that it’s almost pitch black save for a spotlight on Alice. Something in the noise stops your enigma and you plummet to the ground and land in a heap of chairs. It feels like someone has put a building on top of you, as you can do nothing but strain your muscles and grit your teeth against this invisible force.
>>1591772https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giKRecwNJxM Alice begins singing to the warped music and you fight to turn your head. In sleep he sang to me. In dreams he came. That voice which calls to me. And speaks my name. And do I dream of blood. For now I findThe Phantom of the Opera is hereInside my mind The theatre explodes with energy, black and indigo waves of magical energy surging out in all directions from where Alice is. The other sirens all falling to their knees and slumping unconscious backstage from the sheer power she emits; her garb changes - blue silks and white lace decorating her as if she were attending a noble masquerade. The building shakes. Someone sings back. Sing once again with meOur strange duetMy power over you grows stronger yetAnd though you turn from me to glance behindThe Phantom of the Opera is thereInside your mind. The theatre’s roof explodes outwards with the force of both of them. The balcony collapsing down on top of you in a pile of marble that is ground to dust by whatever force has you contained. You can only look above at the chandelier swinging free of it’s bearings and hurtling towards the ground framed against a… pulsating sky. And standing astride his makeshift elevator - a man with rapier and noose. Wearing a white ceramic mask and black formal wear. > BOSS FIGHT: Phantom of the Opera
>>1591776The chandelier lands sending glass and warped metal everywhere. At first you cry out for Lexington, his seat positioned just as such that he would surely be crushed by the centrepiece’s fall. But there he sits, unaffected. A greenish silver magical barrier shining like a beacon of hope in this moment of despair. You are dragged away from your [WORRY] for your master as The phantom now embraces Alice on the stage, the two looking every bit a duo of noble lovers at a debutante ball. If he wanted to kill her he would have... Sing once again with meOur strange duetMy power over you grows stronger yetAnd though you turn from me to glance behindThe Phantom of the Opera is thereInside your mind. He’s encouraging her to sing. The strongest siren ever… he’s using her for something. The phantom powered Velth up tremendously before and now he’s powering up a prodigy; maybe as well as being drawn from the sirens he needs them to do something. Or drain their powers or something. Or they both need to sing uninterrupted. Your eyes go wide at the epiphany and you force your arm to move, just a little rotation of the wrist will be enough to give you leverage to begin resisting. Those who have seen your faceDraw back in fearI am the mask you wear. It’s me they hear One hand under you, great now…. With enough force that your wrist comes out of place you dig your hand into the floor and throw yourself. Outside of whatever effect has been placed on you; you give up the delicacy of landing for certainty of escape - slamming your skull against one of the entryway columns hard enough for stars to dance along your vision. Reaching for the column you pull yourself to a knee groggily just as they both hit the first peak of the song, singing in unison. My spirit and my voice in one combinedThe Phantom of the Opera is hereInside my mind Something suddenly feels wrong. Beyond the dizzying effects of this much siren energy flying around and the lance of pain up your arm as you forcibly reset your wrist. Beyond the rapid devastation of Leno Theatre. Beyond even the abomination of magic brainwashing and seducing a young girl on stage. You look at the formerly pulsating sky and see a crack formed in it. Every colour flashes across a wound in the very fabric of reality with such ferocity that your eyes protest at the sight. It is stomach churning, the sheer danger of whatever that planar wrongness is. The entrance door opens and Verde staggers in, as noodle legged as you taking in the Theatre with furious offense. Too late.
>>1591780He's there, the phantom of the opera!Beware, the phantom of the opera! He's there, the phantom of the opera!Beware the phantom of the opera! The chant increases and both of you have to redouble your efforts to remain standing, but you manage it. Putting one foot in front of the other with grunts of exhaustion, the pair of you begin walking through the debris cluttered aisle like boulders were stacked upon your backs. The Phantom looks at you both before stepping out of the spotlight and holding nothing but Alice’s hand: Sing, my Angel of music! He's there, the phantom of the opera. She responds before beginning to raise her note. Siiiing! The Phantom growls, his sultry and seductive singing voice replaced by a demonic, threatening and altogether foreboding tone. She complies, raising her note so high you instinctively clap your hands over your ears and cry out in pain. Verde manages two more steps before doing the same. SING FOR ME He demands. Alice sings even higher her arms spread wide, her face in agony, eyes shut and blind to all but her ambition and talent as she sings so hard her throat begins to crack and bleed. A shattering sound. Not of glass. But of reality itself. Alice falls unconscious as Verde and you fall to your knees heaving - freed from Alice’s spell. The world’s colour is wrong… everything is tinted slightly Orange… and all you hear is laughing. As you ready yourself to kill, the phantom removes his ceramic mask, lost in his mad cackling… to reveal a slightly more masculine version of Alice’s own face. “FREE AT LAST!” He cries.
