You survived the encounter with the security android but woke up covered in ice in the emergency room. There were instructions written on the wall that lead you to the android from before. Claire had taken the medical magnetic lift to rescue Glen, but returned for you after you used the android to speak with her.You decided to name the android Jinx, based off its serial designation code. You rode in the back of the lift with Glen and Jinx, and made it safely to The Firm.Once at The Firm, you used your medical insurance to get your injuries fixed with bionic implants. Your shoulder join was replaced with an artificial join that also serves as a small magnetic shield. Your broken rib was replaced with a false rib that pumps oxygenators into your bloodstream when needed. After surgery you met with Hendrik, your boss, and decided to give him the full truth. He helped you solve your problems. You sold the med lift to a chop shop for a tidy sum. But more importantly, company protocols provided an outlet for you to keep Jinx. You had the android’s core components transferred from a security shell body into a commerce shell body with sensor shielding, making it read as a perfectly normal to all but the most powerful scanners. You decided to change up the appearance as well, the new body being female with a white porcelain mask for a face. You even gave it short black hair, to the eventual scorn of Claire. You accepted a job from Hendrik to get back into action and make some profits. Your job was to head to the capital building where there were frantic attempts at raising funds for a military reprisal on Utopia. The profit to be made there was immense. You met Claire outside Hendrik’s office and the two of you went to see Glen. A promise is a promise, so you ordered Glen a high spec prosthetic arm with fine motor skills control and retractable self-cleaning blades. The seed of Claire’s jealousy against Jinx were planted as she sees what you’ve done to her android. The two of you made your way to the hanger you arrived in. There a rental vehicle was waiting for you, along with clothing, and weapons galore.A temporary promotion to head of accounting was granted to you for this job, with vague promises of keeping the promotion on success of the job.You selected a baton, a huge revolver, and a machine-pistol to arm yourself with, and head out with Claire and Jinx on your first ever trip to the capital building. The ride went smoothly, and you docked at the physical capital floor. Your company payed 10,000 physical-credits as an entrance fee, and you entered the building.
>>1522271The inside of the building was chaos, and you quickly entangled yourself in the mess. You ordered Jinx to defend you and her first act while doing so was to kick away a grenade that was lobbed at your position.Unfortunately, this brought down the security androids on your group, and you barely escaped their wrath as they became distracted by military grade weapon fire.Things began to look up as you had gathered a following of fellow people with an amplifier implant, and their groups. You breezed through two fights and managed twenty people following you at the height of your leadership. It didn’t last though as an ambush cut your numbers in half.Your group was stopped by a mysterious person in power armor who required a ten thousand finance-credit payment to let you pass. You bargained them down to eight thousand, but to your dismay they killed two more of your group to make up the difference of the bargain. The remainder of your group made it to an elevator, but you personally found no safety there.Upset at your bargaining, and at running them into an ambush, rather than join you as you wished they would, they instead viciously beat you. You’re left on the floor of an elevator.Setting: https://pastebin.com/yZb6BCmUThread 1 summary: https://pastebin.com/FRbwWxdHThread 1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1489840/ (https://pastebin.com/4fS2jZ3F formatted/editied)Thread 2: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1505824/
>>1522273Claire offers to help you up but you decide to wait a moment on the floor. She looks at you concerned. “Are you going to be alright?”“I’ll live, please bring the elevator up one more floor for me.” You take out your bottle of painkillers and take two. “You didn’t break anything, did you?”Claire helps you to your feet and you can’t help but sigh. “Where did it all go so wrong?”“I don’t know, they just joined us, used us, and left. Jinx, run a scan on Mike to check for internal bleeding.” Jinx’s eyes glow purple and you feel a very slight tingling pass over you.“This one has found none.”Your hurt, both physically and emotionally, but you won’t die.The elevator arrives on the third floor of the physical capital complex and you let it open. You all exit the small space and appraise your surroundings. “It’s much quieter here.” Claire seems to approve.Room in you are now in is empty aside from yourself. Ashtrays line the walls next to plush armchair seating. You see two exits, a hallway curving upwards and going out of sight after some distance, and a much larger pair of doors. You’re trying to decide which way to go when the large doors seem to register your presence and open. The doors are tall, unnecessarily tall, in the range of thirty feet. They’re reinforced, at least two feet thick.“Guess we go that way.”“Seems welcoming.” You try to stay optimistic.Inside the room you find it to be civilized, even if it is civility at the point of a gun. Peacemakers in body armor line the walls, all of them wield stuncasters. You hadn’t heard they had returned. The room is filled with chairs, and organized with a podium at the front.A peacemaker stops you asking politely for your credentials. “Sir, I need to see identification.” You pull out the card Hendrik gave you which says you are head of accounting for The Firm and he scans it with his visor. “Sorry for the inconvenience sir, can I help you in any way.”High profile looking characters stand and chat, the next scheduled speaker won’t be for an hour.>I’m here to give a patriotic speech regarding the city on behalf of my employer. >>1522281“I’m just here to meet some potential clients. Thank you for the offer though.”“Have a peaceful day, sir.” You can’t help letting a bit of laughter slip out. Peacers crack you up.“I’ll do my best.” He returns to his post without further comment and you lead the way into the well-lit room. You scan the room looking for a good cluster of people to approach. You’re drawn to a corner in which five old men stand speaking with one another. Above their heads float military grade security drones, spherical death machines. You’ve heard stories of drones like these deflecting railgun blasts or destroying rooms full of security drones in order to protect their owners. It’s a sure bet that these men are both important and wealthy.Your walk over to them with Claire and Jinx close behind. They acknowledge you when you arrive with curt nods and you assume they expect you to introduce yourself. “Hello gentlemen, I am Michael, head accountant at The Firm. I’m here today to help in any way I can about this military reprisal business.”The first of the men to speak up is also the oldest. He’s ancient, perhaps one of the oldest people you have ever met, to look as he does despite anti-aging treatments being available for the last millennium. You’d have to guess he was at least over eight hundred years old to show such age.“I’m Nicholas majority stockholder of Advanced Armaments. We’re glad to have you here in these early moments, you do a service to us all.” You’re unsure if that is a genuine complement or if you’re being mocked but go along with it anyways. This would be a massive fish to hook.“I appreciate that. What can I do for you?” Hoping you sound sincere rather than self-conscious. Another man speaks up before Nicholas has chance to reply. He’s perhaps the youngest there, though still appears to be at least well past his four hundredth year. “I’m Charles, CEO of Major Munitions. I’m not sure anything should be done until we have all the facts. There’s no definitive proof of anything yet.”A skeptic, he could be useful. You wait quiet for another development. The third man to speak butts in as Nicholas is once again about to reply. Old men must not care if they appear rude. He’s aged as well, somewhere between the first two in age, but has the body of a much younger man, still muscularly framed. “You’re both wrong, that collapsed building is proof enough, but it still doesn’t justify the scope of the response these two military industrialists want to pull off. Sorry, the name’s Alfonzo, Captain-commander of the peacemaker chapter for border’s north-west quadrant.” Another peacer.Cont.
>>1522832“I resent that.” You assume this man is the second military industrialist, since Charles was against a response. You can’t tell his age aside from that he likely older than Charles, perhaps around five hundred. “Warren of The Foundry, I’m chief production coordinator. What we really need to focus on is not just a reprisal but making sure this never happens again.” Alfonzo rolls his eyes. The last man stands quietly. He could give Nicholas some completion in the age department but you just have a feeling he’s younger from the look in his eyes. You give him eye contact waiting for him to say something but he never does.“Well, I think I understand your positions somewhat, but you haven’t told me what you need from me.”>Decide to offer your services to one of the men. >Try to play the crow and see what they do agree on.>Ask a question to the group. >>1522835>Try to play the crow and see what they do agree on.>Introduce Claire.
>>1522835“Everyone needs something.” The last man finally speaks, but says no more. His eyes seem to look past you, as if searching the room for some unseen threat. You’re unsure what to say to that and so change the subject.“I’d like to introduce my freelance assistant Claire, she’s both my data analyst and computer expert.” You add a certain emphasis on the last two words hoping they convey the excess meaning you want them to without being overt. She steps up next to you.“It’s nice to meet you all, I just wish it was in better circumstances.”“When you say freelance do you mean that she’s affiliated with a freelance company?” Charles seems to have picked up on your meaning from before.“No, I am a self-sovereign.”“That’s quite impressive. You must be very talented to be able to remain unaffiliated.” Alphonso’s eyes narrow in suspicion and you fear you’ve gone too far for a moment. “I like to think of myself as more of a free spirit.” She defuses his implied accusation with a feigned ignorance that comes second nature to her.“Oh, and she’s modest too.” Charles laughs at his own quip and the tension is gone as soon as it came.“So, am I to understand that you are divided on whether there should be a reprisal at all?”“Reprisals are well and good, but we need to focus on fixing ourselves here before we outsource more resources into atomics and artillery. Sure, it keeps prices high, but this shouldn’t have happened in the first place. We do more damage to ourselves in this crab basket we call a city than acts of war like this ever do.” Warren says this as if he’s often repeated this line word for word, saying it by rote“I’d like to hear you say that when they final slip a big one through our laser defense grid and this whole place becomes a slightly larger, uninhabited crater.” Nicholas final gets the chance to speak up again. “Defenses always fail eventually.”“But aren’t our defenses the only thing that have kept us standing this long?” Claire asks, playing innocent. Nicholas just smiles knowingly.“Not your building, they didn’t.” He has a point.“Well reprisals lead to more reprisals. Offense always fails immediately.” Warren scoffs.“There’s a middle ground you two crazy old fools always refuse to acknowledge.” Alphonso sounds more animated now. “We need to maintain peacemaker presence in the city, and establish a pan-organizational militia. Get proper soldiers fighting our wars, and proper order restored to the darkest floors.”“Are you implying that peacemakers aren’t proper soldiers, Captain-commander?” You feign shock outside and recoil from the words internally.Alfonzo’s eyes narrow again, but soon soften as he lets out a laugh. “I like you son, you’re just the kind of bullshitter I like.”“I’ve been found out.” You hold up your hands palm first and cast a forlorn look upwards.Cont.
>>1523159He doubles over with laughter at this. You decide to shift attention from yourself. “So, Charles, if there was proof of the attack would you be in favor of a reprisal?”“If there was proof of the attack, I’d be in favor of finding out: why specifically your building? Was it simply the weakest link in our defense system? An act of random chance?” He takes a long puff from a cigar before snubbing it out in a nearby ash tray. “Or, something more sinister? What did that basement contain that made Utopia want to expend that much antimatter to destroy it? I’m not against a reprisal, I just need to know how large a reprisal is called for.” You’ve underestimated Charles and decide not to do so again.>Decide to offer your services to one or more of the men. >>1523178“You’ve really piqued my curiosity, Charles. I hadn’t even considered that angle.”“No, people like you never see anything but the credit symbols floating in front of your eyes.” He somehow makes the statement sound friendly, not cold at all, though perhaps a bit condescending.“Excuse me if I break the flow of conversation for a minute, but I’d be interested to hear your take on the situation, uh… I seem to have missed your name.” You finally decide to address the unnamed man.“Ezekiel; Seeker of Truth.” The Seekers of Truth are notoriously secretive, never discussing their organizational structure. For all you know Ezekiel could be a leader, hell the leader, or a retired wealthy man who became a fresh recruit as a hobby. He doesn’t say any more.“Well, I’d like to know your take if you don’t mind my questioning.”“I don’t mind.” He says it in a way that makes you think he meant to say: ‘I pay it no mind’. His dismissive attitude makes you feel insignificant. It just motivates you.“Please do go on. How about a reprisal, are you for or against it?”“No man can know truth until truth comes screaming to the surface after much suffering.” Seekers have a habit of quoting their scripture. “If we inflict the suffering, we shall gain the truth. If we suffer we learn we had the truth all along.” Luckily you think you understand his cryptic meaning. You take a stab at explaining it in everyday terminology.“The attacks on us help us see our own flaws we refuse to see.” Your reminded of the chaotic mess just two floors below you. “A reprisal provokes another attack which accomplishes the same thing. So, you’re in favor of a reprisal then?”“Do not confuse knowledge for wisdom.” Back to cryptic.>Decide to offer your services to one or more of the men. (Who?)>Ask a question to the group. I repent my untruth.” Ezekiel nods approvingly. You turn back to Charles. “So, do you have any suspicions on why my building specifically was targeted, or why anti-matter was used.”“On the first point, perhaps the basement of your building had something hidden, but not hidden well enough.” Now its Charles’ turn to be cryptic. “On the second point, it could be as simple as that was the only weapon of sufficient yield small enough to smuggle in, but perhaps it used more surgically, to completely remove evidence of what was destroyed as thoroughly as only a matter anti-matter explosion can.” His expression darkens into a mask of grimness.“Perhaps the simple lack of peacemakers in the city led to an opening. What good is learning the reasons behind an act of war when you aren’t prepared to deal with what you learn?”“Alfonzo, I’d like to offer you the services of The Firm. I think together we can achieve your goal. Our new offices will be open soon, likely tomorrow.”“I hope so, Michael.” He removes his own identification card and sends the info your way.” Send in a v-mail and one of my assistants will have an appointment scheduled for a tentative meeting with you at your new offices when they open.”“Ezekiel, I feel the same way. "Thank you both for considering my services as an accountant. I personally guarantee that will be in good hands as customers of The Firm."You walk over to first Alfonzo and then to Ezekiel and shake both their hands before returning to your position besides Claire in the circle of conversation.Warren and Nicholas have begun a conversation between themselves about the different benefits of increasing defensive measures verses a show of strength. You turn to Charles and give a bit of consideration towards a pitch for him. "So, Charles, how do you plan to find the answers for this even though the evidence has been annihilated?""Among other things, I've been running a simulation of the city for several years now based upon collected data.""As you're probably aware, The Firm are experts at data collection and analysis. "I've sent your company my payment information, and I've sent you the location of my facility. Show up there as soon as is convenient for you." Charles never took out a data card or any other tech, but says this confidently anyways. You hold out your card and turn towards Warren and Nicholas who are still deep talking and wait for a lull in conversation before speaking. "Excuse me, could I ask you two for your contact information as well?" It's always good to network."No problem." Nicholas gives his out without question."I'll contact you if I need to." Warren just accepts your info without reciprocating."I have to be going now." You now shake all the men's hands before walking away to stand near Jinx."Thank you for your time." When you arrive, you’re told that Glen has fully recovered and is in the kitchens by the nurse at the desk.“I’d also like a checkup.”“Doctor Karila will see you soon.” The nurse leads you to an empty room to wait.“I’m glad to hear about Glen.” Claire puts away her tablet. “I’ve sent over the data from our implants to Hendrik’s office.”“I hope he’s making us some food, I’m starving. Must not be serious if you only want a checkup.” Her long red hair is normally free flowing, but right now she has it up in a ponytail.“Looks like you need a checkup of your own, Doc.”“Ah, it’s just this new building. The Firm opened up medical services to the surrounding floors. We’ve already had tens of people come in. They might have to hire more doctors.”“That’s rough, sorry they’re working you so hard.”“Alright enough about me, what happened to you.”“Nothing serious, I just got ganged up on in an elevator. I had our droid do a field scan and I don’t have internal bleeding, just double checking.”“Sure, no problem.’ She pulls out a handheld med scanner and gives you a quick one over.“You’ve refractured a few of the ribs I repaired when we opened you up earlier. I can give you a prescription for it, they should heal up overnight.”“Anything you can do about the pain? I feel like my body is one big bruise right now.” “You’re already on the best painkillers that won’t affect your judgement, but I can give you another prescription for something stronger to use at home or when off work. I have to go, other patients, glad to see you safe.” She hurries out of the room after checking her pager.Cont.

Go find a table in the cafeteria and I’ll be right out, you got here just in time.”“Will do.” You’re more than happy to leave him to his work, with the expectation that you’ll get some of whatever that delicious smell coming from the wok was.You and Claire grab a table near the kitchens and wait for no longer than five minutes before Glen comes out bearing a platter of food.“I remembered that you didn’t get a chance to finish eating earlier and thought you might like some food, but mostly I just wanted to try out this new arm. It’s amazing by the way. Thanks again, Michael.”The platter has three bowls of some sort of stir fry made with noodles and vegetable, with a large piece of steak in a brown sauce on a center plate. He cuts the steak into thin slices, placing them in the bowls one at a time until the steak is divvied up.“You have no idea how hungry I am.” You dig into the food immediately and are lost in the flavor.“Thanks, Glen. Your food is my favorite.” Claire eats like slower than you this time, perhaps you’ve made her self-conscious.“Do you have a place to stay yet? If not you can spend the night over at our apartment, I’m sure they’ve set us up with a new one.” It would be a strange, and crushing, oversight if they hadn’t.“It’s been a long day, I’d appreciate that.”After the meal, you find your new address and give it to Glen. He says he’ll go there and sleep in the guest room.>Go to Hendrik to give your reports and be given instructions.>Go to the mechanics bay and see what modifications can be made to Jinx.>Call it a night and head to your office apartment.>Write in.
Going to end here for tonight.I will write up the winning vote Sunday, most likely in a new thread. Thanks again to everyone who showed up.I'll post on here and on twitter before hand. If anyone wants to follows it: https://twitter.com/AnAccQM>>1526822Good night, if your still here.
>>1526951>Go to the mechanics bay and see what modifications can be made to Jinx.Might as well put in some extra programs and a pleasant personality. Maybe some sort of droid disruptor too. Ask Claire what she'd like in her drone. And with that, I'm heading off to bed. Night, OP.
>>1526951>go to the machancis bay lets get some weapons in there to avoid a situation like last time
>>1526951>Go to Hendrik to give your reports and be given instructions. This should be our next order of business, need to make sure we actually proved our worth and might keep our promotion

It experiences virtual reality at twelve point five million percent real time; a simulated upbringing with education and on-the-job training. An hour after the process begins, it completes socialization and education. This neural net is then taken out of the simulation and merged with the android’s operating systems. It is a sentient being. (Artificial Human)>The android runs a simulated human mind separate from its operating systems. It runs predictive simulations of Jinx’s immediate future so that it can react in real time. It mimics chosen behavior of the simulation during conversation or activity done with humans. It can also be instructed to use this simulation for self-instruction, when parameters are set. It is only the appearance of sentience. (Strong A.I.)>The android's operating systems simulate the physics that make a human brain work. It is made self-programming and semi-sentient, with limited self-initiative. It can learn new skills in the same way humans do, and will sometimes act based on what its experiences suggest without being explicitly told to do something. Unlike a sentient being, it does not have its own goals or motivations. (Medium A.I.)>Write in.>No change. (Weak A.I.)(Not updating, just throwing up a vote.)
