"Stay away from me, monster!"Accusation and shattered glass both fly across the room as my desperate attempts to calm Camille are drowned out by her screeches."Camille, please listen! I just want to-""NO!" She screams once more as another vial from her seemingly bottomless bag is sent hurling across the room, forcing me to duck behind the bed for safety. I can only wonder at the intended effect its content as it shatters splashes impotently against the wall behind me. I'm not sure even Camille knows at this point. "You can't trick me, monster! I know the truth!"I really wish she would stop calling me that. It really hurts.."I just want to talk! Nothing else!" I yell back at, figuring that if nothing else works, maybe outscreaming her will. Not really much of a plan, definitely not one I really expected to work, and yet she actually seems to, if nothing else, quieten down.Taking a cautious peek from behind the bed, I finally get the first proper look at her since she started freaking out. Her face carries a grimace like that of a wild animal, cornered and terrified. Her eyes shine with both anger and fear, her teeth are bared as she pants heavily. A sharp contrast to the cool and casual look she's usually sporting."..Is that okay, Camille? Can we talk now?"It's a little difficult to tell between the poor lighting and her gasps for air, but I am fairly sure I saw a nod. Maybe she's finally going to listen to reason.I carefully lift myself back unto my feet, ready to have a civilized conversation. It is only by sheer luck that I manage to catch the sudden movement through the corner of my eye, the latest in the long line of potions-turned-projectile just barely passing overhead as I drop back onto the floor. There might be a lesson about trusting witches somewhere in there..Like the others, the sound of shattering glass quickly follows, yet somehow not quite the same this time. And even more so is the sudden change in the air, a heavy and deadly silence suddenly descending. Curious about the sudden change, I turn my head to see...>-+-+->1/2>-+-+-
>>1393241"Mo-mo-mom?" Camille nervously stammers we both realize what has just happened. Where once was a door now stands the second most intimidating woman I've ever encountered, surpassed only by her own teacher. Much unlike Camille's present state, her face reveals not a single sign of emotion as she casts an authoritative eye across the room. In her hand rest all the evidence I could possibly need to decipher the situation: The same hat I've seen her carry proudly so many times, and the same hat that once rested on my own head even if just for a minute, now reduced to something better fit for a young girl's doll."Mom, I can explain! It's not-" With a single gesture, she commands silence and immediately receives it. I still don't know why Camille was so afraid of me, but I know and understand exactly what she is afraid of right now and the tremble in her voice has only grown worse from the previous situation to this one. For a single moment Mistress locks her eyes on me and, with the movement of a single finger, commands my body to stand even before my mind can interpret its meaning.I can only be thankful as her stare moves from me and unto Camille. Blank as her face is, it does reveal one simple fact: This room is about to become very uncomfortable."Nadja, out." She commands.I can't think of anything I want more right now than to get out of the line of fire, but. Even if Camille was trying to attack me just before, and I definitely feel that she's the one who started this, I really do pity anyone in her current situation.>"No. This is my fault too." [Stay. >>1393246>Leave, but stay close enough to listen in on their conversation. [Eavesdrop!]It's what a witch would do
>>1393246>>"No. This is my fault too." [Stay. Defend Camille.]
Even though the thread is up later than scheduled, I am still going to follow a wise anon's suggestion today, so we're using an extended vote time on the first vote to give everyone time to arrive while I take care of some business around the house. I expect to call the vote at the turn of the hour, so just about 20 minutes from now.
>>1393246>Leave, but stay close enough to listen in on their conversation. [Eavesdrop!]
>>1393246>Leave, but stay close enough to listen in on their conversation. [Eavesdrop!]This isn't good, we didn't even manage to talk about what's going on. Hopefully Mistress isn't too angry.
>>1393246>>"No. This is my fault too." [Stay. Defend Camille.]Lets see if we can defuse things before they get started.
And that's time! Three out of five anons do not believe in the right to privacy!
Aww damn, I was too late! Well, eavesdropping sounds okay.
>>1393246Pity or not, I am definitely not staying here! I've already taken my fair share of getting yelled at recently, especially when it's not even my fault! Well, mostly not my fault anyway, and this time definitely not. Sorry, Camille, but I tried to help and you wouldn't have it. You wouldn't even tell me why you're being so unhelpful! But maybe you'll tell Mistress..? Maybe I shouldn't go to far. I shut the door behind me and then make sure to stomp extra hard as I walk away to assure them I really did leave, then sneak back as quietly as I know how to. Clever, right? I thought of it myself! Best part, it's not lying because I really did leave, just not for very long!As it turns, putting an ear to the door is far from necessary with the current tone of the conversation."- knew what I've seen then you'd-"Camille's voice is abruptly cut off by a smack so loud it makes even my cheek burn."I know exactly what it is you believe, girl, and it is completely irrelevant.""You know? Ho-how? Why haven't you done-""FIRST:" Mistress' voice suddenly picks up, seeming to make even the door shake with its volume. "You mistakenly assume I am so idiotic that I would not notice the same signs that you saw!""SECOND: You make a complete fool of yourself by trying to use the girl's own friend against her, as if you would somehow have more sway over her, completely revealing your hand before you've even begun to make a plan!""THIRD: You shame yourself with this pathetic display of panicked hysteria, as if I had never taught you a single thing in all of your life! What does a witch fear?"An unintelligible grumble is the only response to be heard."LOUDER, GIRL!"The reply is still barely audible, at least through the door, but Mistress doesn't seem to press the matter further and a far more audible sigh of resignation escapes her. That's too bad, I would've liked to know what it is that witches fear."As for how I know about her.. situation. She quite simply told me. Decided to trust me. Perhaps if you had kept your cool you could've had that pleasure too.."Wait a minute! She's only getting yelled for being bad at going behind my back, and attacking me, not for actually doing those things against me! How is that fair?!>Interrupt them and demand the apology I deserve for what Camille did! Actually, TWO apologies!>Stay quiet for now and keep listening.>This isn't what I wanted to hear. I should go get to work on preparing the werewolf bait plan instead.>Something else? [Write-in!]
>>1393416>Stay quiet for now and keep listening.Calm now Nadja, you can prepare your response afterwards!
>>1393416>>This isn't what I wanted to hear. I should go get to work on preparing the werewolf bait plan instead.Either this or demanding apologies. Though I would prefer this.
>>1393416>This isn't what I wanted to hear. I should go get to work on preparing the werewolf bait plan instead. The apologies can wait.
>>1393416>Stay quiet for now and keep listening. We can yell at Camille later
>>1393416>This isn't what I wanted to hear. I should go get to work on preparing the werewolf bait plan instead.
I do hope Camille apologizes and plays nice after this at least.
Looks like that's enough eavesdropping for now. Time to get to work instead!Like a good girl would.
>>1393456Like a Nadja would.Hope your assignment went fine Friend.
>>1393453Witches NEVER do that in this quest. In fact they seem determined to make Nadja's life difficult despite the fact that she is quite new at all this. What's the point of getting a teacher if she has to figure most things by herself?
>>1393478That's a bit harsh, mistress has been very helpful, and though Lily made things tough for a while she too ended up telling us a lot!
>>1393478None of the other witches have done anything to make Nadja's life difficult, certainly not more so than is necessary for her to learn.
>>1393487There is way too much of "figure things herself" stuff going on when our MC is a CHILD who doesn't know many things! They have not even taught her basics like "What's a witch truly afraid of?"
>>1393492Seems like half the point of training to be a witch is learning to be self-sufficient.The set-up for the quest reminds me a lot of Tiffany from Pratchett's YA aimed witch books, complete with somewhat difficult teacher(s) and being a kid witch who has a ton of responsibility and is expected to learn on her own time.
>>1393491She got her clothes stolen during the test. She had to figure how to make a potion when she barely has a few hours of training. They aren't teaching her things that apparently every other witch, even aprendices, should know. They are all forgetting that she has not even finished school yet they are treating her like an adult.
>>1393508I don't think Cinnamon is much older, otherwise her personality would seem excessively childish. And we ran into her as an actual frog which seems at least as bad as anything Nadja's suffered.
>>1393500We haven't really figured out what the deal with that clot theft was.She has been taught how to make a potion, and she didn't actually even have to make a potion. She has been taught enough to not get in trouble. They are treating her like a witch, because she is.
>>1393512Actually; witches can pick the way they look. Did you ever read the previous threads? And witches centuries old acting like spoiled brats seems to be the norm.At this point she already had almost as many tests as teaching done by her teacher.Nadja is written like she was ten and acts like it, why are the witches treating a mere apprentice like an adult? The other apprentice we see is a lot of years (like five or six) older than Nadja and her teacher goes way easier on her.Does Nadja got a "Be mean to me!" sign in her back? They barely teach her anything and at this point is like almost half the magic she knows she had to figure by herself!Sure Nadja earned some scorn by forcing her teacher to take her. But taking her clothes during the test? Forcing her friend to fight her? Giving her tasks an ADULT would have trouble with and make her do them? Making her figure magic by herself when the point of having a teacher is to have the teacher TEACH YOU THINGS? Badja has been a witch apprentice for what? A few weeks? Less than a month? Shouldn't the tests be more spaced out to give Nadja time to BE TAUGHT THINGS LIKE SHE IS SUPPOSED TO?
>>1393529Seems like Mistress prefers the 'toss you into the deep end so you learn to swim' method of teaching, though she did teach us a good amount of basics early on in the quest. At this point I assume it's more about Friend wanting to show all kinds of other things that aren't Nadja sitting in her house getting lessons being mostly to blame for that rarely happening.
>>1393523She is an not a witch, she is barely learning to be one. And they are not even teaching her the basics. Shouldn't Nadja have been taught what's a witch truly afraid of? Also is been a while, why is every witch thinking Nadja knows things she doesn't when she has barely started the path to become a witch? Nadja acts like a child and looks the part and is a beginner, why is everyone but her master not treating Nadja like a child?
>>1393529All of the witches have to learn things for themselves, and Nadja has been taught the basics.Nobody has forced her friend to fight her, and she hasn't been given any tasks she would have significant trouble with.
>>1393416This isn't at all what I wanted to hear...Not that I wanted to hear Camille get yelled at or anything, it's not like that! I just thought maybe Mistress was going to stand up for me and defend me, but instead she only seems to care about how Camille didn't do a good enough job! She's not even gettin mad about Camille shrinking her hat! Why doesn't Mistress ever get mad about normal things like a normal parent?!Or teacher, I guess in my case. I'm not really sure there's that much of a difference. Either way, it seems that if I want to ever get an apology from Camille then I'll have to get it myself. And maybe I will! And an extra one for calling me a monster! I am definitely not a monster anymore and I definitely don't like being called that! For now, it seems smarter to just focus on work instead. There is still a lot to do after all. Before she freaked out, Camille and I agreed to switch to a bait plan instead of the original one that had Amalia in it. I have the poison, and Camille suggested using that garlic concentrate of hers to disguise the taste. That leaves the actual bait!..What do werewolves eat, though? Some kind of meat, I guess, but what works best?At least the question of where to look is an easy one. With the soldiers guarding the door to the church, thanks to the recently deceased Baroness being kept here, and with how I left the broom I used to get here back with those two.. Not to mention that the broom isn't even mine but one I sort of borrowed from Mistress without asking first and she'll probably be noticing exactly that very soon.. It sounds like my only choice right now is to take a look in the pantry.Without asking for permission first. Given how neither Kerstin or Klemens seem to actually be here, despite that this is their home. Some time I'd like to know what is up with that too, but answers never seem to come at the rate I prefer. I'll just have to hope Kerstin can forgive me for that too.>-+-+->1/2>-+-+-
>>1393555The mood downstairs, despite nobody actually being there, is particularly uncomfortable. The closed coffin resting behind the altar is barely noticeable at first glance, and if I didn't know it would be there I might not have noticed it at all, but it completely changes the feeling of the room. It's strange and difficult to describe. Maybe it's just because I've never really experienced people dying before, at least not in any of the years I remember? It doesn't really feel sad or scary like I would have expected. Just.. Is there even a word for this feeling? The feeling that you're supposed to be feeling something that you're not feeling? Maybe Kerstin knows a word for it.There's no sense thinking too much about it, I guess. Better to ignore it for now and get back to the job. I'm pretty sure the pantry was somewhere in the back on the ground floor and..Wow! Priests must earn a lot of money to have a pantry like this! Meats of more kinds than I can count, cheeses, even wine! I know it's still not nice to take anything without asking, it's almost stealing, but it looks like they could definitely spare just a bit..Now the question is, what would a werewolf like best of all this meat? Any of this is enough to make my mouth drop, but a werewolf might be more picky. It quickly occurs to me that the meat that the werewolf would probably really prefer isn't in this room at all, but.. Obviously we can't do that. That would be insane.>Maybe the smoked ham? I once heard one of those adventurer-types say that human taste like pig - I made sure not to ask how he knew - and werewolves hunt humans right?>Venison might do the trick? A wolf would hunt deer in the wild, I think, so surely a werewolf would too!>I'm pretty sure the most expensive thing here is the veal, and if it's the most expensive on the market that must mean it's the tastiest. And that means it's also the best bait! Logical!>Something completely different? [Write-in!]
>>1393562>Venison might do the trick? A wolf would hunt deer in the wild, I think, so surely a werewolf would too!
>>1393562We could just take all, though I guess it might be mildly more suspicious to find a clump of three different meats rather than one...but I think the latter is still more than suspicious enough if the werewolf is in any state to be suspicious like that.>Maybe the smoked ham? I once heard one of those adventurer-types say that human taste like pig - I made sure not to ask how he knew - and werewolves hunt humans right?I'm pretty sure a real wolf would eat all three of those and more, so I think we should take the ham because it's the only one that seems like it COULD have some kind of extra appeal to a were version.
>>1393562>Venison>>1393554Yeah let's make the student who was barely taught anything at all figure what witches are truly afraid of, shall we? >Carmine, I will tell my sister what you did to me. Let's see if she still wants to hang out with you after that!
>>1393562>Maybe the smoked ham? I once heard one of those adventurer-types say that human taste like pig - I made sure not to ask how he knew - and werewolves hunt humans right?
>>1393579>>1393607The smoked ham seems to me like it'd by far be the most suspicious of the options. Why would you even consider chosing it?
>>1393616Well like I reasoned, if the werewolf has sufficient faculties to get suspicious at finding smoked ham, I'd expect it to get suspicious of a random cut of venison lying around too.
>>1393562>Animals tend to eat pretty much anything they can get, so I can choose the cheapest one, right?
>>1393562>>Venison might do the trick? A wolf would hunt deer in the wild, I think, so surely a werewolf would too!
>>1393607>>1393579I’m fairly sure that the distinct smokey smell tastes bad to some animals.
>>1393622By that logic, give him a bottle of eine that looks like it dropped from a carriage, maybe with a broken box included? And is Carmine fault we fought with our friend, at least indirectly!
>>1393622A smoked ham has more obvious work put in to it and a much more distinctly "manufactured" smell. I don't think it rates anywhere near as suspicious as just a slab of meat, even though both are somewhat suspicious.
>>1393627I don't think wolves drink wine though, or at least they won't seek it out for sustenance!
>>1393626Possibly, but it might cover up the poison.>>1393629I don't think there's any way to make a garlic cowered piece of meat seem like nobody has put work in to it.
I'm more than a little surprised that this turned out to be the one vote that could start a discussion. I guess now I know what matters most to you guys:Food.Anyway, looks to me like venison is in the lead, so we're going with that!>>1393529>Nadja is written like she was ten and acts like it, why are the witches treating a mere apprentice like an adult?>>The other apprentice we see is a lot of years (like five or six) older than Nadja and her teacher goes way easier on her.Nadja is twelve, but with a tendency towards being childishly naive and still ignorant of a lot of things other twelve-year-olds would have picked up on by now. The fact her entire education before the quest has consisted of a few hours in church once every Sunday probably doesn't help your impression of her. Cinnamon, the other apprentice, is thirteen. Having an entire year of training more than Nadja makes quite a difference though, when held against Nadja's one week plus a few days.Or, if by other apprentice you meant Camille, who is not actually an apprentice anymore, she's seventeen.>>1393497>Seems like half the point of training to be a witch is learning to be self-sufficient.Sharp! See, brewing a potion is something pretty much anyone could learn, if not for the fact that the witches are keeping it a secret. That's true of basically all magic, all you need to know is how to do it, or simply to have someone make it for you. Thus, the thing that separates a witch from everyone else has to be more than just magic. And no, it's not the hat either.
>>1393645>And no, it's not the hat either.Granny would scoff at you for such a ludicrous statement!
>>1393656Don't get me wrong, the difference between how a novice witch and a true witch wear the hat is a clear indicator a witch's stature, but it is only that. The hat alone does not make a witch, and there's nothing stopping an experienced witch from pretending to be a novice to make you underestimate her. Or from simply not wearing the hat.>>1393632Maybe if the werewolf was an alcoholic before they turned?
>>1393562Venison might do the trick? A wolf would hunt deer in the wild, I think, so surely a werewolf would too! Though, honestly, wouldn't a wolf eat just about any meat? They don't seem like they'd be picky. And all of this definitely looks good!So that's the bait meat, I have the poison, and I have the Thorn, so I guess now all I have to do is wait for Mistress and Camille to be done and maybe we can finally start the plan.Fortunately, they don't leave me waiting much longer. The mood as the two of them emerge from the room can only be described as awkward, the kind of mood you only find between two people who have forgotten how to talk to each other. That seems kind of silly though, but I probably shouldn't worry about that right now. What I should worry about is the quite-familiar broomstick in Mistress' hand. I did know I'd be in trouble for borrowing it without permission sooner or later, but I was hoping for later so at least it wouldn't get in the way of the mission. She does not look pleased as she approaches.Camille, for her part, looks surprisingly meek with her head bowed slightly forward and her eyes awkwardly looking at anything but either of us. "We seem to be missing a critical element in your plan." Mistress states, rather than asks.So.. we're not going to talk about the borrowing without permission business yet after all? It's difficult to tell, with how she's still holding in her hand like that, as if she was ready to hit me with it at any time. Figuratively, at least."I.. changed the plan a bit."From the expectant look on her face I'm pretty sure she already knew this, but she's going to make me explain it anyway. Oh well, it's better than being punished for the other thing....".. So what do you think? Is this plan okay, Mistress?"She smiles. Not the good kind of smile that says 'I approve of what you did' but the kind of smile that says 'I'm going to enjoy what I'm about to do to you.'"What do YOU think of this new plan? Poisoned bait instead of delivering the poison with one of your friend's arrows?">".. I preferred the old plan, but that's not going to happen so I came up with a new one. It's not my first choice, but it's the best I could think of." [Realist!]>"I actually like this plan better. It seems a lot safer because we won't have to get close to the monster while it's still awake." [Optimist!]>"I.. really don't know and I really wish you would just tell me what is right and wrong!" [Frustrated!]>Something else? [Write-in!]
>>1393800>>".. I preferred the old plan, but that's not going to happen so I came up with a new one. It's not my first choice, but it's the best I could think of." [Realist!]>"I think it will work. …right?"
>>1393800"Well, it should be a lot safer if something goes wrong, but I dunno if planning around failure is very useful. It's also less reliable. After all, Amalia is reeeeally good at shooting things, while wolfy might not eat this for one reason or another! But Amalia isn't gonna be there and I don't think I'm very good at shooting, so this seems like the best alternative."
>>1393800>".. I preferred the old plan, but that's not going to happen so I came up with a new one. It's not my first choice, but it's the best I could think of." [Realist!]>"...And I will not go through with the plan unless Camille says she's sorry for calling me a monster."
>>1393800>".. I preferred the old plan, but that's not going to happen so I came up with a new one. It's not my first choice, but it's the best I could think of." [Realist!]
>>1393800>"To be honest I don't know enough about werewolves to say for sure, but they both seem workable. And I made sure to check with someone who knows more than me before deciding too so ut should be fine right?"
>>1393800>>".. I preferred the old plan, but that's not going to happen so I came up with a new one. It's not my first choice, but it's the best I could think of." [Realist!]
Looks like a clear win for the realists, along with some useful write-ins. Good stuff!
>>1393857We try, sometimes!Wonder if Mistress is in a bad mood after Camille's shenanigans.
>>1393863The fact that she did nothing in our defence despite being a witch antagonising a mere apprentice and only talked to her because Camille' looked like she was going to kill us? It doesn't fill me with confidence.
>>1393977Well basically the entire quest she has been focused on teaching Nadja that witches need to clean up after themselves. I think it's a lot more complicated than you're thinking, though to be fair, she DID take control of the situation, and defended Nadja by getting her out of the situation too.On one hand, you have the fact that Nadja needs to take control of her own relationships. On the other, you have Camille and Mistress's relationship which is no doubt very complicated. But consider this: if Camille was simply another witch without much history with Mistress, would she even have been able to reprimand her the way she did without making a major witch faux pas? Camille is her own witch now and you can't expect Mistress to treat her like her daughter where witchy matters are concerned (at the very least). Now of course, it IS Camille and so things aren't that strict, but consider if she did try and defend Nadja, would it reflect badly on Nadja to have Mistress come to her defense? Would Camille even respect what she'd have to say, when not coming from Nadja?
>>1393977It wasn't so much antagonising as it was cowering in terror, and lashing out for no clear reason.Mistress intervened and reprimaded Camille seemingly as soon as she arrived, so I don't think there's really anything more that she could have done.
>>1393800"Honestly, I preferred the old plan."Mistress seems mildly surprised as I begin explaining. At least she doesn't look disappointed. Yet."But that's not going to happen anymore, so I came up with a new one. I don't really like betting it all on just plan that can so easily go wrong. Like, the wolfy might figure out it's bait, or it might just not care about the bait, a lot of things could go wrong and I don't know what we'll do then. But it's all I have right now, so..">Camille approves???>Camille's opinion of Nadja increased by 5!"So you made the best of an impossible situation instead of sitting around doing nothing." Camille suddenly speaks up, a new light shining in her eyes. "Because sometimes you simply don't have the time to think up some long and convoluted plan that accounts for every vaguely imaginable obstacle!"That's.. not really what I said, but Camille seems to have really wanted to say that. And judging by the annoyed look on Mistress' face I don't think it's the first time this point has been made. I hope I don't end up stuck in between their disagreements.."Very well," Mistress replies, just barely keeping her stone cold tone. "You recognize that the circumstances are less than ideal and the plan less than waterproof. Being aware of the dangers you have not accounted for at the very least is a good start.""That's why I asked Camille for help with this. Nobody ever told me anything about werewolves and I wasn't given enough time to read a book about them, so it seemed smart to ask someone who knows more. And she said she thinks it'll work, so..""The situation is unfortunate, I agree." Mistress explains calmly. "Such things happen when one lunges too eagerly into matters without being properly prepared. Speaking of which, I suggest you two finish up so we can get this trouble out of the way before the sun comes up."Wait a minute! She.. She intentionally didn't tell me all of that stuff and gave me such a strict deadline just because she's still upset that I wanted to help?!By her widened eyes it's clear that the same thought just crossed Camille's mind and, for a moment at least, as our eyes meet the earlier fight seems like ancient history, irrelevant compared to the sudden realization of a common enemy. I find myself just about ready to burst at Mistress as she walks away, only to be interrupted by Camille's hand suddenly covering my mouth, a slow shaking of her head telling me that now is not the time. She's probably not wrong. Now isn't the time to yell at Mistress, it's the time to..>..Demand an apology from Camille! She's the one who needs my help here, and I'm not doing anything until I get one!>..Try to work things out with Camille, ask her why she was so hostile before.>..Get to work. >>1394022Is a witch, who is not the master, going against a mere apprentice. The social faux pax is going after a mere beginner, not the master defending someone who is not even a witch yet. Not to mention that SHE ASKED FOR NADJA'S HELP AND THEN WENT AN ANTAGONISED AND ATTACKED HER! If Carmine wasn't master daughter, it would be the equivalent of a feud, by atacking another witch apprentice being a witch instead of an apprentice, she is basically attacking the apprentice's master too.

>>1394052>Pointedly wait for an apology without asking for one like a witch who's not only in the right but also has the stronger bargaining position.
>>1394052>..Get to work. There's way too much drama tonight, the rest of it can wait until another day.Let's just get this over with. We'll have more time to talk later.
>>1394052"And you are the one who stole my clothes, didn't you?"
>>1394107Was she around at the time? I assume she would be but it's been a while.
Annnd, looking at the clock it seems like this is going to be the time to call it a night. It's a little early, I know, but tomorrow will be an early morning for me so I'm going to have to do the responsible thing.I am hoping to have another shortish session tomorrow evening though, so I hope that you'll be able to be there. I will of course let you know on Twitter if and when it happens.I hope you've enjoyed tonight's session, and if you have any questions you want to ask or anything you want to discuss about the quest, don't hold back! I'll respond as soon as I can!Until then, thanks for playing and have a lovely night! See you tomorrow!
>>1394113The reason she distrusted us at first was because she spied on us and saw that the spark dis not touch our body.
>>1394121Good night! It was a lot of fun. Looking forward to dealing with the wolf.
>>1394121Thanks for the thread. See you tomorrow.
>>1394121Hope we get more words tomorrow, night
I am back home now, and just about ready to begin on the next update. Expect it soonish.
>>1394052.. to receive my apology. Because by now I shouldn't even have to ask!"So," Camille says, exhaustion weighing heavy in her voice, "the sooner we can get this out of the way the better, right?"She's right, but not in the way she thinks. I say nothing."That's the bait, right?" She points to the slab of meat in my hands and pulls at the paper wrapping to get a look at the contents. "Good choice. Wolfy isn't really in a position to be picky about food anyway, but the fewer questions we put in his hungry head, the better, mh?"Hah! She thinks a tiny compliment like that is going to get her out of this! No."Come on, we can use Kay's room to set up." She motions for me to follow. Only when she's already halfway down the hall does she stop and realize that I have not moved a single step. She turns and gives me a puzzled look, as if she doesn't understand. Surely she can't be that dense.... But just in case, I make sure to pout extra hard at her, to leave no room for misinterpretation. "Oh, so that's it?" She finally managed to take the hint. Here we go!She takes a deep breath and then.."Say, Nadja, have you ever had ice cream for breakfast?"What? What kind of question is that?"It seems like a really great idea at first. Ice cream is delicious, so what could possibly be better than starting the day with ice cream, yeah? Only makes sense."This doesn't sound at all like an apology. What does ice cream have to do with any of this?"But then one morning you actually do it, you sneak off early in the morning, climbing out of the window with your eyes set on the goal. You're getting your ice cream and NOTHING is going to stop you. This is finally going to be the day. You do your best to ignore your growling stomach on the unusually long walk into town, because nothing is going to stop you.""You even wait, quiet and patient as best you know while the ice cream man explains that you need to wait while he actually MAKES the ice cream because nobody actually eats ice cream so early in the morning. And then finally, after what feels like an eternity you finally get to hand over your hard earned savings and take that frozen treasure you sought. You lick it and then.."And then what?! Stop smiling so cheekily, I already know what a dramatic pause is, so tell me the ending to the ice cream story already!>-+-+->1/2>-+-+-
>>1397911"It's all wrong."WHAT?! WHAT DID SHE JUST SAY ABOUT ICE CREAM?!"It's great and all, sure, it is still ice cream after all, but it just isn't the same. It doesn't taste quite right, it doesn't feel right. You ask the man why he changed his recipe, but he assures you he didn't. It is the exact same ice cream as always. The only explanation he can offer is..""I guess that's why you don't eat ice cream for breakfast.".. That's all? All of this just to tell me not to eat ice cream for brea-"The point is, Nadja, some things need to be done in the right place and the right time. Otherwise, that thing that makes it special, that makes it matter, it just won't be there."Is the point an apology?".. And also that I watched very carefully as he prepared the batch and now, quite honestly, I don't need to buy ice cream ever again 'cause mine's just better. So.. how would you like it if we focused on the task for now and tomorrow you and I celebrated a job well done, had a long and serious talk about what happened, and all you can eat of Camille's Finest?">"Ice cream! Definitely ice cream! Ice cream!" [Ice cream!]>Ice cream IS great, but.. "No. Apology first or I'm leaving." [Stubborn!]>"..Whatever. If you're going to make all that up just to avoid apologizing then I don't WANT your apology anymore. [Pre-teen!]>Something else? [Write-in!]Writing an update centered around ice cream when I haven't actually eaten yet was more painful than I imagined. Voting time will be somewhat extended while I go make dinner.
>>1397915>Ice cream IS great, but.. "No. Apology first or I'm leaving." [Stubborn!]
>>1397915>"Ice cream! Definitely ice cream! Ice cream!" [Ice cream!]Ice cream tastes good.
>>1397915>>Ice cream IS great, but.. "No. Apology first or I'm leaving." [Stubborn!]
>>1397915>"..Whatever. If you're going to make all that up just to avoid apologizing then I don't WANT your apology anymore. [Pre-teen!]
>>1397915>"You do know that I am the only one who can use the cure, right? So since you don't want my ice-cream. I guess I will be leaving then.">Walk away
>>1397915>Ice cream IS great, but.. "No. Apology first or I'm leaving." [Stubborn!]Last chance Camille!
>>1397950This. Because she almost killed us after she asked for our help and we got our master angry with us BECAUSE OF HER.She can get her ice-cream somewhere else.
>>1397950>>1397959It's Camille's ice cream, though? She's offering to make ice cream for you. Was I too unclear about that?
>>1397967Anons don't want delicious ice cream it seems!
>>1397969Anon may value some things more than her ice cream.
>>1397972Sounds like anons need to reprioritize then, nothing can compare to ice cream.
>>1397915>"Ice cream! Definitely ice cream! Ice cream!" [Ice cream!]What Camille is saying is that we focus on getting the job done first, then we can dispense with the apologies. And Ice Cream.
>>1397967I guess we are just taking it as an insult because she almost killed us? She can't cure the werewolf without us and all she has done is making our life difficult and try to kill us.Or what do you think would have happened if she had hit us with many potions one after another?
Well, it seems Nadja can't be bought with ice cream. I am genuinely surprised, but sometimes surprise is a good thing.I am going to eat my dinner now, so expect a bit of a delay on the next update. It WILL come, though, don't worry!
>>1398002She should offer ice cream AND apologies!
>>1398002Trying to kill Nadja is a bit beyond what ice-cream can buy, don't you think?First lesson of magic? Magic is dangerous and can kill you or worse. If Carmine had hit our MC with many potions Nadja could have died. Let's say shrinking plus fire or bomb. Due to being so small the fire or the bomb would have killed Nadja.
>>1398012Nothing seems to have exploded or caught fire, so I don't think she threw such potions.
>>1398032Yes but the fact is, she could have. She could have used poison or something worse. Plus Carmine has been a pain in the ass. It was okay when she was just annoying, but after she asked for our help she shouldn't have been antagonising us. Not to mention she is kind of dating our sister, how do you think our old sis eould react to Carmine hurting us?
>>1398012>>1398052>CarmineYou keep using that name. You mean Camille, right?
>>1398052Actually we volunteered, because apparently nobody else can do the job.
>>1398052I do wonder how sis would react...hope we see more of her in the future in general.
>>1398096And that got our master angry with us. So is still Camille fault. She is the one who wants to cure that werewolf.
>>1398165She's obviously not the only one who wants to cure the werewolf, and Mistress hasn't actually reprimanded Nadja for anything except making a deal with Vanda.
>>1397915Ice.. cream? That's even better than Mr. Hennes' ice cream? I can't even imagine what that must be like, but..But if she thinks she can just bribe me with ice cream like that, then she's going to be sorely disappointed! I am not some stupid little girl! I can.. I can say no to ice cream! Just watch me!"No. Nuh-uh." It really does hurt a little to say, but I do it anyway. "I'm not that stupid! You just want to give me ice cream so I won't be mad at you anymore but it's not going to work! I'm not that easy! Now, either you apologize, properly, or I am leaving because I don't deserve to be treated like this just for trying to help you!"Describing the look on her face as simply confused or shocked would be a colossal understatement. I'd have to invent a brand new word to properly describe it, and probably another as well to describe just how proud it makes me feel to see her like that. This is it, this is what I was trying to tell Amalia. Everyone thinks that just because I try to be nice I can't stand up for myself. Not Camille though, not anymore. Whatever else may happen, she definitely understands this now. I am NOT weak!"..How?" She asks, still trying to pick her jaw back up. "Really, I don't know how to do that. Back there, I completely misunderstood what.. Well I misunderstood a lot of things, y'know? I didn't think clearly, and now afterwards, well now it all just seems unforgivable.. you know?""I'm.." Suddenly, she drops to her knees mid-sentence, even takes off her hat to look up at me. I kinda like that. I never get to be the big one. "I'm really sorry, Nadja. I treated you like something you're clearly not. And that wasn't just wrong. It was really hurtful of me. So please, let me try to make it up to you?" I like that little stunt a lot. I like how powerful it makes me feel to see her on her knees. And yet.."Say it." I'm actually a little surprised at how harsh my voice comes out, but I like that too a little! "You called me a monster, but I'm not! So you have to say it! Say that I'm not a monster!""You uh..?" Yet again she gives me that funny puzzled look, as if there was anything unreasonable about what I'm asking. There isn't! "You're not a monster and I'm sorry I called you one?"Hah! I knew that, but it feels good to hear it anyway!"So uh, are we.. okay? Can we focus on trying to save someone's life tonight now?">"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]>"I'm still angry with you, and you definitely owe me way more than that, but I accept your apology for now, for the sake of the job." [Ice-cold shoulder!]>"..Are you the one who stole my clothes?" [Accusation!]>Something else? [Write-in!]
>>1398236>"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]Stealing clothes really doesn't sound like her MO, but who knows.
>>1398236>"I'm still angry with you, and you definitely owe me way more than that, but I accept your apology for now, for the sake of the job." [Ice-cold shoulder!]
Also interesting that this neither increased nor decreased her opinion on Nadja.
>>1398236>"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]
>>1398236>"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]Doesn't seem very Nadja-like to hold grudges, and we're better of making peace with Camille anyway since between her relationships with Mistress and our sister, we're probably gonna see her a lot.
>>1398236>>"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]
>>1398236>"Oh right! Yes, let's do our best now!" [Get straight to work!]Success! Confirmed not a monster. I guess we really should get to curing that werewolf now.
Looks like Camille has been punished enough for tonight. I'm sure she'll be glad to hear that.>>1398255It's not that no impression was made, she's just too confused to have figured out yet what she thinks of it.>>1393476Just realized I never responded to this and that it was kind of rude of me. My lecturer seemed to think it was fine. I don't really agree with him, I think it turned out awful but I obviously wasn't going to tell him that. It's all over now anyway, so it doesn't matter anymore.>>1398052>Not to mention she is kind of dating our sisterIs she?
I bet Amalia will be real surprised and awed when she sees Nadja solve this all herself and get respected by fellow witches!
>>1398325Everything will go fine! For sure!>>1398312>Is she?Well we can always just ask her. Afterwards.
>>1398312Yes she is. Only ya know... our sister might not be aware of it? She is family so she might be a tad dense too...>>1398318No she is just gonna feel guilty because she is like that.Thrn we will give her a hug abd apologise because we were kind of stupid and friends fight sometimes but they should always make peace afterwards.
>>1398339>>1398405Sis does seem a bit giddy shipping Nadja with Amelia, though.
>>1398413Yet she ignores her own wannabe girlfriend... "Hey Camille are you dating my big sis?" Nah saying that would be too out of character for Nadja.
>>1398437Nadja can't even wrap her head around romance between two girls.
>>1398444She can't warp her head about romance, period.
>>1398236"Oh right!" For a moment there I almost completely forgot that we're not just doing this because it's a job. We could actually be saving whoever that werewolf used to be! That's actually really important! And good! "Yes, let's do our very best now!""..Really?" She asks, her voice still quivering with uncertainty. "'Cause you know I can still-""Don't you think it's really dumb to stay mad at people if you don't have to?" I ask without waiting for a reply. "Because I don't think it's very fun to be mad at someone. It's really exhausting and it makes you feel angry when you could've been happy instead. But now you've apologized and you're going to be nice from now on, so even if it doesn't really make up for everything, well, wouldn't it just be dumb to keep being angry? Isn't it a lot smarter to be happy that things are going to get better?""I.. that.." She mumbles, not managing to put together more than a word at a time. >Camille approves>Camille's opinion of Nadja increases by 10!"I can't believe that actually made sense to me, but it does. I really think you're right, that is a stupid thing to do. Maybe I should.." She trails off, suddenly staring up into the ceiling."Are you okay, Camille?"She comes to, and gives me a reassuring smile. "Ah! Sorry, I was just thinking of someone I know. What did you say we were going to do, again?""Our best, of course!"-Working with Camille, now that the air has been cleared a bit, turns out to be quite a lot of fun. Sure, the work of preparing the bait isn't actually very difficult and is over very quickly, but she does a really good job of explaining the process to me, of how best to distribute the poison and the taste disguiser, and letting me do most of the work after explaining it. Mistress lets me try doing things myself too, of course, but with her I always feel like I'm being tested. With Camille it's different, the pressure isn't there and I'm just learning at my own pace.I'm still a little wary of her, of course. I'm not mad anymore, but that doesn't mean I completely forgot what she did. The thought does cross my mind that she might still just be pretending to be nice to me, and looking at her does still remind me a bit of that scary face she made when she was freaking out at me. Most of the time though, I actually find that I really enjoy working with her. If only she hadn't done the things she did..Soon enough, we both agree that the work is complete with not a single detail left to add. Despite feeling like we worked quickly we find Mistress looking more than a little impatient as we head downstairs again. She spares the prepared bait no more than a single glance, giving no indication of whether or not she approves or not. But that actually doesn't bother me a lot right now. I think it's good, and Camille does too. That's good enough.>-+-+->1/2>-+-+-
>>1398744"Ready to begin?" She asks, her tone no longer quite cold but rather.. serious? Though I suppose things actually are about to get serious."Ready as we'll be." Camille replies quickly with confidence surpassing even what I was feeling just now."Ready!" I hurriedly tone in after her, a little louder than I meant to."Good." Mistress continues in that dead serious tone. "Sparrow, show Robin the way."Oh right, those names. I guess we're using those now instead of our real names? It does make me feel a little cooler, so I suppose I'm okay with that."Are we going far?" I ask, realizing that I've gone all this time and still not been told where the actual thing would be."Not at all," Camille, or rather, Sparrow, explains, her confident and perhaps even cocky grin. "It's actually just downstairs, below the church. Been trapped down there for well over a month, which is good for us because the only source of food is what we decide to throw down there."Wait, WhAT?!"Kay's been pretty good at keeping that a secret, huh? You shouldn't underestimate that girl!"Kay..? Oh, she must mean.. "Kerstin knew about this too?! All this time?!""She's the client." Ca- Sparrow just blurts that out there like it was no big deal but.. Something this big, going on right here for so long and Kerstin never said a thing.. I almost want to believe this is just a huge prank."Hey." Sparrow finally takes on a more serious tone too as we stop in front of a trapdoor in the library connected to the church. It's a bit of an odd place to have a basement, but I never really thought much of it and I know we've never been allowed to go down there. "Would you mind waiting up here?""There are a lot of tunnels down there, for hiding people in case of a war you know? It can get really confusing. Last time I sealed him off in the western section so that's where the bait needs to go. Trouble is, I can't be sure the door actually held until I get down there and check, meaning right now wolfy could be anywhere. So.."Well obviously I don't want to go down there! It's dangerous! And that's definitely what I would say, if not for the fact that Mistress seems to be particularly interested in my response to this. Is she going to think I'm a coward if I stay up here? Or that I'm stupid if I go down there? As always, she's not likely to tell me what it is she wants..>"You're the expert here, so I'll let you handle this, Sparrow." [Wait upstairs]>"It would be safer if you weren't alone. I can watch your back!" [Go with her]>"I don't think you should be alone, but I'm not trained for this.." ["Suggest" that Mistress goes with her]>Something else? [Write-in!]
>>1398748>"You're the expert here, so I'll let you handle this, Sparrow." [Wait upstairs]Nadja would be more a liability than anything else against a werewolf. Also I'm not entirely sure how the Amalia plan was all that great if this werewolf is stuck inside cramped tunnels. Not exactly a lot of opportunities for free shots. Granted Amalia is an expert so she could probably make do, but still. Combined with the feeding part and this plan looks better now I think.
>>1398748>"You're the expert here, so I'll let you handle this, Sparrow." [Wait upstairs]>>1398768She did beat up, tie, and drag back a full grown bear in such a way it was crying.
>>1398748>"I don't think you should be alone, but I'm not trained for this.." ["Suggest" that Mistress goes with her]
>>1398776That's true, but what I mean is more, if we rely on Amalia's combat expertise we maybe didn't even need the poison in the first place. You don't really need much of a plan for that. If it was anyone but Amalia or someone similarly competent, the previous plan would suck terribly.
I kinda wanna suggest Mistress goes along, but I dunno if one of them might take it badly...
>>1398807The more assertive we are the better Mistress will take it.
>>1398748>"You're the expert here, so I'll let you handle this, Sparrow." [Wait upstairs]Sounds like she's done this before, so it should be alright, although she did get hurt at least one time.
>>1398828True enough. Guess it can't hurt too much.>>1398748>"I don't think you should be alone, but I'm not trained for this.." ["Suggest" that Mistress goes with her]
>>1398748>>"I don't think you should be alone, but I'm not trained for this.." ["Suggest" that Mistress goes with her]
And that's going to be the last one for tonight! For the rest of the week I am planning to switch to the one-update-per-day thing that we've been trying out "recently". It's not really my favorite way of doing things, but I can't really afford to spend another entire evening on this, nor would I like to stop quite yet.So that means, next update will come tomorrow evening and it means you have a very long time to vote, ask questions if you like, or discuss things. Until then, thanks for joining me tonight, I hope you've enjoyed things and that I'll see you tomorrow!>>1398444>>1398511She gets the general idea and knows that it's a thing that sometimes happens. She adores the romantic ending to a fairy tale as much as any girl, and more than certain girls. Of course! It's just actually picking up on even the most heavy-handed and obvious indicators that she has trouble with.>>1398768>Also I'm not entirely sure how the Amalia plan was all that great if this werewolf is stuck inside cramped tunnels. Not exactly a lot of opportunities for free shots. You're making me wish for an excuse for Nadja to travel far enough to actually reach one of the regions where Amalia still has a reputation, just so you could hear the stories. Though maybe it's better to just leave the details forever unspoken.
>>1398854Oh, that sounds like a nice plan. Looking forward to it! Thanks for running!
>>1398854Night night! Thanks for running.
Tonight's update isn't going to be on time. Expect it tomorrow evening instead.
>>1402010Alright, take care Friend!
>>1397915Camille is objectively wrong here. Nadja must introduce her to the magic that is ice cream on warm pancakes with fresh fruit for breakfast.
>>1404039Can one little girl handle that much sweet?
Sooo...weekend thread, or?
>>1398748>"You're the expert here, so I'll let you handle this, Sparrow." [Wait upstairs]
So, not sure how many are still going to be around to read this, but I figure now that I have time I should at least drop a note. You might've noticed how that 'tomorrow' turned into a bit of a 'never'. I'm not dead or anything like that, but let's just say it's been a bit of a complicated week. So 'next update' is going to magically transform into 'next thread OP'. That's a bit of a promotion, so congratulations to it!No promises on when that will be, because clearly making promises is a terrible idea that only causes trouble. Instead of a promise, you can have a drillwitch!>>1404039I'd argue, in her defense, at that point you're not having ice cream, you're having ice cream with pancakes. You're still right of course, though you'll have to wait for someone to invent that combo.>>1404083>Can one little girl handle that much sweet?Responsibly? Absolutely not!
>>1421033Glad to hear you're not dead!
>>1421033Well, it's nice that you're alive at least.
>>1421033Actually that seems the kind of thing our MC would invent. Ice-cream or pancakes? Why not both?
>>1421044So am I!>>1422429Tomorrow is The 3rd, so I hope that's reason enough for you to cheer up. I know that I will, so I hope you can too!>>1422451Would she? Way I see it, if Nadja was in a buddy cop movie, she would be the by-the-book cop. Her rival on the other hand..
>>1422867Having both doesn't break any rules and Nadja is a witch, plus a by the book cop doesn't break rules to help her father. Plus any person who truly loves to eat slso loves to cook. And cooking is boring if you do nothing but follow recipes. You have to create your own to be a true chef!
>>1422867>>1423062This is true, Nadja is a loose cannon! She doesn't have a hat or wand because Mistress demanded she hand them over, right? But damn it, she gets results.
