That doesn’t match Ellie,” says Serafina. “I bet she practically ate up Jeep Jockey’s face! Just look at the way she dances! She probably commands respect in all aspects of a relationship!” All the girls look in awe, realizing that Serafina is probably right. And she couldn’t be more wrong. You wouldn’t ever- in your life- WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE GIRLS!“Ooohh, I swoon at the thought of it!” says Regina. “Kissing your beloved with the warm sands beneath your body, the waves crashing upon you as your lips caress each other!” All the girls sigh in bliss. Standing next to you now was Iris. “… you believe me, right? I only did it to try and distract Winona, I swear! It was part of my plan, which almost worked because Winona was too caught up in it, right!?”Iris takes a sip of tea from her cup, nodding slowly. “I believe you. I can lie about things that you wouldn’t even dream about!” you proclaim.Iris stares at you. “Lie to me now.”“W- what?” you ask.“Tell me a lie and I will believe you,” says Iris. She takes another sip of tea, looking at you expectantly.…“Um.” You turn your head away, a light blush on your face. “I-… I-“ You clear your throat. Right, how to lie to her? You snap your finger, then smirk smugly at her. “I came into work late yesterday!”Iris snickers a little, patting your shoulder. “You are a horrific liar.” She steps past you, walking away.She-… Gah. Zumwalt kissed a girl.Apparently people don’t seem to believe that you kissed a boy. Whoever started that rumor is going to get crucified if you ever see them.NOT THAT YOU DID KISS A BOY.Denise offers you a stick of gum, which you take gratefully. “Cheer up, Elodie. Work wasn’t that bad today. At the very least, the girls were careful not to talk about it when you were around.” No, but their looks and their whispering was very obvious to you. And what is with the rumor that you kissed a girl anyway!?Hilda says, “I think the reason people think you kissed a girl instead of a boy is that they don’t know any boys that you could kiss.”“Plus, you do have that very uh…” Denise smiles at you, trying to be warm and friendly. “Respectful and honest attitude that can make any girl swoon.” You roll your eyes. The other boys as well look at you, all smiles and sunshine. What the hell are they smiling at? You can see Rafe and Tony help Jeep Jockey into a flight harness. “We were just about to put Jeep Jockey into the cockpit for his first flight!”Jimmy slides over, nudging you, giving you a very sly smirk. “Came to give him a good luck kiss?” A good luck kiss why would-NO.NO NO NO. THEY DIDN’T. WHO TOLD THEM. You look to Denise. She shrugs in confusion. How the fuck do rumors spread this fast on a ship the size of a city!? Goddamn it! You sigh, rubbing your forehead. “Hey, if it’s any consolation, I didn’t believe it,” says Jack.“Joy, I’m very honored that you actually don’t believe me the one time I tell a lie,” you say.Jeep Jockey walks over, rubbing the back of his neck. His pilot helmet is a little skewed and the goggles on his forehead seem a little loose. “Alright. I’m…” He motions his arms outward, showing off the flight suit. “I guess I’m ready, Jack.”“Great!” Jack slaps Jeep Jockey’s back. “We’ll start you off with some basic maneuvers at about 5k feet, hard deck will be level to the ship’s upper deck. Jimmy, warm up the Hudson.” Jimmy nods, walking off.“Anything I can do?” you ask.Jack nods. “Sure. We set up some cameras along the wing tips, inside the cockpit, and on the tail fin. That’ll be how we observe Jock and his actions close up. Jeep Jockey, whenever you’re ready.”“Y-… yeah.” Jeep Jockey takes a deep breath, rubbing his hands together. “Eh. Right. He glances away, shoving his hands into his pockets as he lets you do this stuff. “Don’t worry about it. I don’t expect your first flight to be magical. Just try not to crash.”“Yeah,” says Jack. “Coach Wright says if you crash Heavenly Body, it’s coming out of your money to repair her.” Jock nods. “Right. Help him in.” Tony and Rafe motion Jeep Jockey over to the wing and help him climb up into the cockpit. “Ellie. We’re going to watch him over the cameras. Make sure he has stuff settled. Here.” He hands you a throat mic and headphones. “You can talk to him over these.”“Good, good.” Jeep Jockey sits down inside, taking a deep breath. He pulls the hatch over and seals himself in, then starts up the engine. You pull the headphones on to suppress the sound of the engine, then step to the side. Rafe signals Jeep Jockey out of the hangar, slowly. You watch as the Buffalo chugs its way out of the hangar. Once he’s on the runway, Rafe signals Jeep Jockey to punch it. With the engine roaring loudly, Jeep Jockey slowly edges the plane forward, accelerating at light pace. Then he finally lifts off. You, Denise, Mulcahy, and Hilda sit down at the computers. There, the cameras are set up broadcasting Jeep Jockey’s actions from wing, tail, and cockpit. Jack hits up the mic, “Alright, climb to five-thousand feet and hold there. Jimmy, take the Hudson and lead him on.” The Lockheed Hudson that Jeep Jockey will be following takes off shortly after.”“So how do we do this?” you ask.“It’s simple, Jeep Jockey will take a lap around the schoolship, we’ll work him through basic maneuvers and attack patterns, simple stuff.” Jack smiles a bit. “Here.” He hands you a guidebook. “He likes your voice.” You roll your eyes. “Come on, every pilot loves the comforting voice of a nice girl telling them what to do!”“Alright…” You squeeze your throat mic. “Jeep Jockey, can you hear me?”“Five by five,” he responds clearly. A secondary screen shows the location of the planes as well. After some minutes of downtime, Jeep Jockey is now following behind the Hudson. They start taking their lap.Jack leans in, looking at the screen. “Jockey, you’re dipping down slightly,” he says. You can see one of the screens reading Jock’s relative altitude. “Pull up.” He pulls up, resetting his altitude.“S-… sorry. Just a little nervous,” he says.“Fight through it,” Jack says calmly. “Come on, we only got today and tomorrow before the showdown.”“Yeah, yeah.” You can see Jeep Jockey in his seat, apparently shaking a little. “Goddamn, I missed this.”You lean back in your seat, then notice something. “Jack.” You point to the map screen, which shows two blips approaching LGA. “What’s that?” Jack and the other pilots lean in, looking at it.[1/2]
>>1353509[2/2]“… Glenn Curtiss is part of FleetFest, yeah?” he asks. You nod. He leans back. “Oh boy. Jockey, Jimmy. Turn to 270, we need eyes on bogies approaching you.” You see the cameras shift from blue skies and clouds and open seas to now some clouds in the distance. And in that distance two faint dots and an Academyship on the horizon. “Just what I thought.”“Glenn Curtiss?” You lean in, looking at it.“No mistake,” he says. “JJ, Jimmy, you got some bandits from GC incoming. Looks like they want a spar.”“Haha! Alright, let’s give ‘em the business then!” says Jimmy.“Uh. I-… Isn’t this supposed to be a training flight?” asks JJ.“Up to you, Jeep Jockey,” says Jack. “I won’t force you to fight if you don’t feel it but-…” He leans in close, then zooms in. “Oh. Oh boy. How much damage can they do?”“Actually, Heidi is one of Curtiss’ aces,” says Jack. “She shot down twenty people last year.” Oh. Well. You can’t just tell him to land now after you just said that. “Don’t worry, Jeep Jockey should be fine. At the very least, it’s combat experience!”“What if he gets shot down?” asks Denise.“Then we’ll have to fix the plane out of our pocket,” says Jack. “I got faith though. You can take ‘em, JJ. Jimmy, you cover him.”“Alright, alright!” Jimmy pulls the Hudson to the right of Jeep Jockey, anchoring his right flank. “I’ll be on your right, JJ. I can’t maneuver like they do, but you stick around me and I can cover you with my turret!”“Got it!” says JJ.“Well, well!” Heidi calls out over the radio. “Look what we got here! Where’s Jack!?”“Sorry, Heidi, it’s just the two of us!” Jimmy calls back. “You’re going to have to come back later, I was just showing the new guy here the ropes!”“I’ll give you a rope to hang yourself with!” Heidi yells. “Attack!” The two Hellcats start firing away, closing the distance down to half a kilometer.“Let ‘em pass, JJ!” Jimmy commands Jeep Jockey to fly right past the Hellcats. They do, barely receiving many shots and bullets into their hulls. The Hellcats pull up, then roll themselves around to pursue. “Alright, JJ. I’m gonna pull right and draw one out, fall back behind and get on his tail, got it?”“Y- yeah!” Jeep Jockey looks back, then starts pulling back and away. The Hudson starts pulling to the right, isolating itself.Heidi laughs. “Ha ha! A Thach Weave!? As if we’re going to fall for that!” The Hellcats start chasing Jeep Jockey.“Oh shit, that didn’t work,” says Jimmy. Jeep Jockey now has two angry Hellcats pursuing him. “RUN, JJ! THEY’RE GONNA SLAUGHTER YOU!”“That’s not really helping him, Jimmy,” Jack says.“What? It’s the truth!”Jeep Jockey pulls left again, further pulling himself away from the Hudson. We can fix the plane,” you state. “Go down fighting.” Jeep Jockey seems to hesitate in the cockpit, looking around. Jack, the other pilots, your retinue all look at you. “You can do it.”“… This is gonna suck.” You see the world suddenly turn on its side. Jeep Jockey is turning around to engage. But he’s not pulling up. The Hellcats pass over without a shot on him. They try turning back on him. He’s not going to have any energy down there, so his only chance is if the planes come down to him.The Hellcats target him down from above. “Take this!” yells Heidi. They both fire long bursts of .50s. The bullets splash against the water as Jeep Jockey swerves left and right. You can see some shots penetrate and pass right through the wings before he turns around again to the right. “He’s turning around again!” The Hellcats continue pursuing. “Turn into him, come on!”Jack smirks, rubbing his chin. “He’s pulling them into a turn and burn.”He what? “What?”“He’s swirling around and bleeding almost all of his forward energy,” says Jack. “He’s a real attractive target for anything a kilometer away but at this distance. But they’re turning with them.” He shakes his head. “Heidi always did fall for those little stunts, hehe.”You can see that not only are they dropping altitude, they’re also dropping in speed. You can see Jeep Jockey struggle with the Gs in his cockpit from the excessive turning. Denise looks over. “Isn’t he going to shred his wings?”“Probably,” Jack admits. Wait, what? “Planes don’t like maneuvers like this. He keeps turning like that he might shear the wings off or get pulled into a flat spin.” What.Jeep Jockey finally somehow manages to get on their tail. He fires the .50s, managing to graze and snap bits off of Heidi’s tail. “Damn!” Heidi yells out. “He’s on us!” Just above the water they stop the turning. He fires another burst, strafing Heidi’s engine. Excess oil leaks out of her engine, splashing her cockpit and spewing a black trail of smoke and oil. “Ah! Son of a bitch!” The Hellcats pull away. “You won this time, we’ll get you later!”“Yeah! Fuck yeah!” Everyone in the hangar cheers and whoops. Jeep Jockey beat an ace, somehow!“Yeah! WOOO!” Jeep Jockey punches the air in his cockpit. “Did you see that, Jack!? Did you see that!? I got-“His plane splashes into the water. The cameras cut out.…Well. That was expected.[1/2]
>>1353835[2/2]--You all watch as Regina trucks the waterlogged and smashed up Buffalo back onto the runway. It didn’t look too bad all things considered. Some bullet holes here and there. The real damage was to the engine and the propeller. The prop was completely folded inwards from the impact, and the engine will likely be full of water. Jeep Jockey rides on the trailer, his life vest still on, drenched to the bone. Regina starts towing the plane inside. “Let’s get to work!”--“Dinner time!” It’s relatively late at 7:30 in the afternoon.
