And I intend to make the most of it! Because it’s almost time for FleetFest!” Everyone murmurs excitedly.“FleetFest!” Suvorov pumps her fist. “Now I can finally discuss the finer points of the Napoleonic Wars with my colleagues at Kursk!”“That’s nothing!” says Serafina. “We have friends across the pond who we can finally have conversations with in the native tongue!”“Yes, yes.” Griselda calms everyone down. “But before all that though. It’s time we make preparations. Now, over the next week, the ships will start arriving slowly. And our ship has been selected to host the Commissioner of the NATO League and her people in the ballot voting for the All-Star Game next week! So I want everyone on their best behavior, and I want the best decorations and festival stuff! Let’s get on the bounce and show ‘em what LGA is really like!”“Yeah!” Everyone starts dispersing to make their plans for FleetFest. You and your crew stand by Oliver. “Man,” says Winona. “To think we got this far.”“Yeah!” says Stack. “We’ll make the All-Star Game for sure.”“Actually.” Ingrid holds up a finger. “I checked the stats with the official NATO website. Elodie won’t have much of a chance of making it in.” Huh? You look to her. “Elodie’s been having an amazing second half, but the All-Star Game is all about people who are consistently good all through the tournament.”“What are you talking about!?” Stack stomps her foot, glaring at Ingrid. “Ellie’s the best on our team! Have you seen all of her MVPs?”“She’s actually considered the weakest part of LGA’s Big Three. Iris has the big guns and Griselda leads our team competently but Ellie’s good at both but not the best at either. Most analysts consider Ellie’s MVP awards the result of the fact that for most of our time in the tournament, we’ve been outnumbered. Therefore, the sample size is smaller. It’s much harder to get an MVP or any kind of kill title when you’re in a full team of twenty on the field,” Ingrid explains.Stack huffs. “Stupid analysts. They ruin everything.” Ingrid quirks her brow at that.> “I think I have a chance.”> “Regardless. We should start preparing for FleetFest.”> “Dumb analysts, who needs them.”> Other

Right now, despite your actual want to be in the All-Star Game, you think it best right now that you put your mind at ease with the help of some hard work. “We do it right, and we win our matches against Joan D’Orleans and Zhou Enlai. Once that’s done, we can start griping about the postseason.”“I like that!” Stack bangs her fist into her palm. “I say we give Oliver a good cleaning!”“After that,” says Ingrid. “We should seek out donations. Maybe collect money from Penny too.”“Right!” Josephina smiles. “Shall we get to it then?”“Yeah!” You nod, smiling. “Let’s-“ You hear a throat clear behind you. You turn around to see Jeep Jockey, standing there. With your jacket under his arm. “… Oh. Jeep Jockey.” You turn back to your girls, and any excitement they may have had is instantly replaced by smugness. Ugh…Jeep Jockey holds out your jacket, smiling a bit. “You left this back at the hangar, Elodie.” You swipe your jacket, looking away from him. Hmph. “Just wanted to say thanks for helping last night too.”Winona steps in front of you, giving Jeep Jockey a stinkeye. “Hm? You two didn’t pull any fooly cooly antics, did you?”“Oh, no, no! The sky’s the limit.”“So you want us to raise money then?” asks Winona.“Yep. And then-““Ellie.” Griselda walks on up to you, smiling. “Can I ask you a favor?” Oh.“What’s up?” you ask.“Meryl Hoffmeister and Mei Xiang are coming around for FleetFest.” Griselda grimaces at saying her name. “They’ll be arriving at the airport in a couple of hours. Can I trust you to pick them up and lead them on to their quarters?”“Are they not arriving with their teams?” asks Stack.“Meryl and I actually exchange emails so we wanted to spend some time together before FleetFest,” Griselda explains. “I don’t know why Mei wants to come around though. Not enough time since we got to talk with Mei,” says Ingrid. “You think Griselda and Meryl are close?”You shrug. “Wouldn’t be surprising, commanders of their own teams after all.” To be frank, what little you saw of Meryl, you liked. She was probably the only other commander in NATO to respect your lack of numbers and actually deliberately trim down her own to make it a fairer fight. Of course that was for one match. But still, it’s the thought that counts. Finally, you see Meryl and Mei walking out of the airport gates. You wave to them. “Hey, hey! It’s Elodie Zumwalt!” says Meryl. She wears a simple khaki blouse with some black pants, while Mei arrives in her school uniform. Figures. Meryl smiles, offering her hand to shake. You all shake hands with her while Mei stands in the back. “Ellie. NATO’s little rising star!” Meryl looks at your crew. “And her crew!” She looks at Jeep Jockey. She gasps, smiling. “And her-““Don’t finish that sentence,” you say quickly. “It’s nice to see you, Meryl. You too, Mei.” Mei nods to you.Meryl smiles. “First thing’s first though. Where’s Iris? Where’s that frou-frou girl what races me to top the kill leaders in the West?”“She’s not here, she’s back at the hangar,” you explain.“Shame. So generally what we do is just fly against each other and try and replicate to the closest ability the opposing craft. Jeep Jockey nervously takes his joystick. “Let’s do it!” You look over Jeep Jockey’s shoulder, watching him fly a virtual F2A Buffalo similar to the one he has and will fly in the showdown. Already the virtual sky is lit up by the boys shooting each other to pieces. At least this replicates the chaos of Skycraft.“Ha! Get some, Rafe!” shouts Billy.“Fuck you, Billy! Yeeehaw!” Billy and Rafe turn their planes, a P-51D Mustang and an Me-262 jet, down to Jeep Jockey. Jeep Jockey sees this, and immediately starts breaking into a turn. “Get him, get him, get him! Wooo!” They charge in from behind Jeep Jockey, spraying him with bullets. Thanks to the Buffalo’s maneuvering skills however, Jeep Jockey avoids most of the shots. He breaks right, with the P-51D breaking upwards to preserve its energy. Meanwhile, Billy’s jet though. It slams into a tree before it can pull up. “Damn it!” yells Billy. Rafe’s P-51D starts turning about to go after Jeep Jockey, and ascending out of the battle are a pair of P-51Ds as well. “Get him for me, guys!”“Fuck you, Rafe you cheesy fuck!” Jimmy pulls in, aiming to get a joust on at Jeep Jockey.“Come on, you can get him,” you say. Jeep Jockey nods, taking a deep breath as he sprays his .50 and .30 at the P-51D. Though, every brake and every turn he takes brings him closer to the ground. “Jeep Jockey, you should pull up.”“Okay, okay.” Jeep Jockey takes a deep breath, pulling his joystick slightly up. His Buffalo starts to climb up. Wait, no, that’ll make him a bigger target! He’s going to decelerate AND present his entire top to the Mustangs. You’re about to call this out when he suddenly pulls left. He decelerates even further, but he dodges the incoming barrage from .50s. Jack and Tony pass over him, then start a wide turn to preserve their energy. “Ha! They missed!”“Pull up!” you call.“Oh shit!” Jeep Jockey in the process of having to dodge so many attacks has managed to decelerate so severely that he’s simply dropping out of the sky. Without any momentum or energy, he’s now more or less a slowly decelerating and descending sitting duck.“Get him!” yells Tony. The P-51s come back around the sides, lighting Jeep Jockey up from two angles. He’s lit up in seconds and descends in flames. “Ha! Some boys are already taking in the pizza boxes and the boxes of fried chicken. And with that, the LAN party takes a short break. “Hey, JJ. > “We need to kick your habit.”“We need to kick your habit,” you say. “Low flight has it advantages, but you can’t rely on it all the time. You need to get used to moving around at higher altitudes up in the sky. The Beast can’t boom-and-zoom you if you’re at his height.” Jeep Jockey nods, taking a deep breath. “And hey. Consider this, you didn’t crash.”“Yeah, I guess.” He smirks a bit. “But hey, day’s still young. We’ll see.”--The improvised LAN party went on for some time in the hangar. Jeep Jockey got settled into picking off stragglers and wounded planes in the big mid-air battle. You observe quietly. You do notice that he starts to gravitate towards low ground almost consciously, but once you snap him out of it by shouting at him, he goes back to medium flight.Eventually, he scored eight victories in some three hours. Thanks.”> “Actually, let’s hit up the town. Reward you for good behavior.”> Other
>>1286072>“No. We keep on working. Open them books.”Ellie is a hard worker!
>>1286072> “Actually, let’s hit up the town. Reward you for good behavior.”Because fuck it let's go the whole way.
>>1286072>“No. We keep on working. Open them books.”
>>1286072> “No. We keep on working. Open them books.”Put the kettle on.
>>1286072> “No. We keep on working. Open them books.”One more push for the evening, then call it a night.
>>1286072> “No. We keep on working. Open them books.”
> “No. We keep on working. Open them books.”“No. Put the kettle on,” you say. “We’re going to keep working on that noggin of yours until we make some real progress. Now let’s open them books.” Jeep Jockey smirks, apparently bemused. “Don’t look at me like that. Come on, let’s do it!” With that, you finish up cleaning the hangar and moving the tables back to where they should. Jeep Jockey puts tea on the kettle and you open up the specification manuals for both the F2A Buffalo and the Me-109.And thus, some time later, you two sit across from each other. Books are rested in your lap. Jeep Jockey kicks his feet up on a spare landing gear. “Right. Jeep Jockey.” He looks up, taking a sip of tea quickly. “Describe to me your plan of attack for The Beast.”“Um.” He rubs his chin. “Well, an Me-109 G-10 is a good dogfighter. The ideal thing would be to come at him from above and avoid a direct fight.” You nod. Smart. “But, Buffalo can’t climb like an Me-109.” That is… very true. “Plus, I’ve got peashooters compared to his cannons. And he’s faster horizontally. My best bet maybe would be to provoke him into a turnfight. But even then, that’s his specialty.”“Well. At least you understand your flaws,” you say simply. He looks down, folding his arms.Jeep Jockey sighs. “That’s really what I am. I’m not like Jack. I’m not exactly Mister Cool Guy,” he mutters.“You’re not Mister Cool Guy because you’re not confident,” you say simply. “You need to show a little pride in yourself.”“What do I have to be proud of though?” he asks.“I mean- the guys like you.” You shrug. They really do.“They love a good underdog story I guess. Okay. Name another thing besides them,” he says.> “You can drive stick. Only other guy I know that can do that is my Dad!”> “You have enough passion to do this even despite your worries.”> “That you loved the sport more than it loved you.”> Other

>>1286354> “You can drive stick. Only other guy I know that can do that is my Dad!”And>>1286375This whole thing.Something simple and then something sweet.
>>1286354> “You have enough passion to do this even despite your worries.”First one may be pointless, depending on the other guys' skills. The last one make it seem like he's just not getting the hints that the sport is giving him.Second is all about him and what he does and continues to do.
>>1286354>OtherStall, avoid eye contact. Mumble vague things about him "being his own man".
> “That you loved the sport more than it loved you.”You shrug. “You love this sport more than it loves you. It’s beaten you up, struck you down, and even despite all that you’re still part of it.” You smile at him. “I don’t know many people that can take that and keep going. And you’re still willing to keep going. It’s actually really admirable, Jeep Jockey.”You can see a blush creep on his face, then he smiles a little. “Aw, schucks.” He twiddles his thumbs, looking away. You roll your eyes. He gets embarrassed from that? Jeez. “Well, thank you, Elodie. You-…” He snorts, nodding. “Well, let’s just say you’re the wind beneath my wings.” You stare at him. Huh? “That- that is…” He shrugs, going back to his book. “Whatever.”Wind beneath his wings. You bite your lip. Oh jeez. What’s Dad going to say? You can’t be caught talking lovey-dovey with a boy. NOT THAT YOU ARE, he’s doing it! You’re just- ugh. You shake your head. “Right. Let’s get back to studying then you can drive me back to the hangar.” He nods at that. “Right, let’s review some aerial maneuvers. Now, rolling scissors are…”--It’s about 10 O’clock by the time you two finish your studies. He pulls the Jeep up to the Tank Hangar doors. You look in. Seems to be quite a wild time in there. You look up at the newly painted Tank Hangar too. A nice natural yellow-ish tan-ish color. This is a huge building, those five girls must have been at it all day. You step off the jeep. “Thanks, Jeep Jockey.”“Yeah.” He nods to you, smiling. “Good night.” You nod, turning around to walk in. “Wait! Um.” You turn back, quirking your brow. “… why help me?”“What?”He frowns a bit. “I mean, you don’t know me from Adam, we met maybe a couple of months ago? Small interactions here and there yet you want to help me get back into Skycraft. And you’re sacrificing your time and energy to do it. I just…” He looks to the steering wheel. “I’d just like to know why.”> “So you’ll do the same thing for someone else who needs it.”> “Because you’re a friend.”> “You seemed like you needed help.”> Other

> OtherYou smile a bit. “It’s a secret.” You stick your tongue out at him, then start walking back inside your hangar. “Good night, Jeep Jockey.”“Y-… yeah.” You can still see the redness on his face even in the darkness. He leans back in his seat, then starts putting the Jeep in gear. “Good night, Ellie.” With that, he drives on off and away. You keep on walking. Then immediately bury your face in your hands. Your face is on fire! Why did you do that!? That’s so embarrassing! Did you not want to friendzone him!? Wait, why are you concerned about the friendzone!? That’d be the best case scenario! Why!? Ugh… This is so embarrassing!“Ellie!” Winona and the rest of the crew come towards you. “Wow. Ellie, you’ve gone red. Do you have a fever.” You look away. Nooooooo. Winona places her hand on her forehead. “Hm. No fever.”Stack sighs, pushing you on the back further into the hangar. “Come on. I think we all know why she’s so red.” Stack. Please. NO. “But I think she’s already sick of it at this point. So let’s just comfort and pamper Ellie for the night.” Ugh, thank you.“Yeah, come on, girly,” says Ingrid. “We saved you some treats.”You sigh. Oh, what are friends for?
