Hello again fellow creators of /qst/. After a brief hiatus on my part, I'm here again to begin our journey into the Regional Evolution of our Moon Worlds. We will be starting with Region 1 of Janus.As GM, I'll do my best to actively work on phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also make random events for the world to drive evolution down new paths. Since this is the first time I've done EvoGames focused in a Regional perspective I'll be experimenting with how I approach these threads for better viability later on. Present Setting: As Janus enters the Late Magedivatian Era, another tectonic shift expands and molds the ocean's currents. This shift of the Janus' landmasses adjusts the global thermohaline circulation of the worlds oceans, bringing with it warm waters currents that reach far beyond its tropics. This is kind of rough, but I took a stab at making a food web for the shallow seas. On the right are some plants that don't have any marine herbivores associated with them. The Cleana was paired symbiotically with the Weird-Mouthed Twizzler, but I'm assuming they moved to the Ab Chomper and Barnacald here instead. The reason the Kinacopter seems like the ultimate apex predator is because all the species that hunt it are in the open ocean. Finally, everything should link down to the decomposer level but I didn't feel like doing all of that work.

OK for this one I put the Swole Skelker under herbivore because it technically eats plants, even if they are faster computer plants. Also, the Kappagetta is probably similar to the Caldroo in that it mostly decomposes stuff but will try to eat whatever it can.

The lifting "cape" of the freshwater species of Silver Node Bead-Body Algetta develops into a set of fins that it uses to glide by jumping out of the water. This lets it escape potential predators, as well as allowing it to travel between different nearby lakes and rivers. It gets a more developed eye to assist in navigation, as well as darker leaves to absorb light and a colored patch for signaling.

This time I actually looked at the initial phylogeny charts.This pie chart demonstrates the hawa species distribution at the end of last Riennia thread.Each of the slices is one Gen 2 lineage, apart from Other (which consists of the basal hawa, the nostril hawa, the bristle hawa, the false colonist hawa and two generations of slippery hawa).In total, I found there to be 74 extant hawa species.

The fastest it can run if preyed upon is about the same speed as a human walking in a brisk pace.
The Barnaconch on Aracana thicken their saliva into a sticky, viscous mucus that tastes terrible but is a perfect growing medium for the symbiotic algae that they feed on. This prevents other species of herbivore from opportunistically feeding off of them, and discourages the few predators they have. The Barnaconch also start to congregate together along riverbanks and lakesides, literally and metaphorically pooling their mucus for better protection.

The Barnacald in the waters around the Intraveritas Archipelago get a thinner, more flexible foot, which allows them to leave behind their sessile lifestyle and swim by moving it in a ripple motion. Since this makes them a much easier target, they develop a fast and long-acting toxin that causes vivid hallucinations in small doses and full seizures in larger amounts; this substance is spread throughout their muscle tissues, making them extremely dangerous prey. The color of the shell changes to warn predators not to fukc with them.

As the Crawl Lantea starts to adapt and spread inland, away from the shorelines and lakesides, it diverges into two separate strains.The first strain, the Crawl Lantea, mutates to grow multiple stems, making use of the ample space for absorbing sunlight found further inland. It's usually found growing next to other Crawl Lanteas, their multiple stems entwining and forming a kind of shrub-carpet capable of spanning several kilometers uninterrupted. The second strain, the Lowland Lantea, grows a thicker and stronger stem allowing it to stand up, while still quite bent over. These can generally be found growing in areas with few trees and other objects stealing sunlight, usually on Mat Grass plains and jutting out from Crawl Lantea carpets.

Since these skelkers no longer has tentacles to grab prey with, they develop keratin claws. While not particularly sharp, combined with a full force kick it its more than enough to K.O a Borgetta.This line of Skelkers are called Legdei Skelkers, so as to separate them from the Tusked Swole Skelkers.

--Region Event: The Typhoons of Aetheria--The unique geographic positioning of the Aetheria Region landmasses creates tropical weather corridors that spawn powerful typhoons during every warm season. These storms ride along the currents impacting coastlines adjacent to these warm ocean currents that drive the storms. Only occasionally do these storm deal a great amount of damage to local fauna/flora populations, but otherwise life is unaffected by these events. Geographically however, the overall climate of these coastlines that are battered by annual typhoons begin to become more marsh-like in nature, allowing the appearance/expansion of the marshland environment.

To protect itself from the predation of herbivores and the annoyance of pests (such as the Kinail) the Borgetta's circuitry has gone through an unusual adaption. It's enough to temporarily stun larger animals (serving as a deterent) and enough to kill a smaller animal. These Borgettas are called Lightning Borgettanas.

Large swathes of these islands rapidly develop a cool mediterranean climate, similar to the Chilean Matorral. The two island clusters experience mild and semi-arid weather throughout the warm season, being prone to frequent bushfires that wipe out swathes of vegetated land, leaving the surviving plants and animals to adapt to frequent migration and/or tolerance to the dry, fire-prone land. It is only during the cooler, winter-like season on these islands where heavy rain and snowfall provide no more than an average of 200mm of precipitation annually.--Regional Impact--> New habitat, Cool Mediterranean is now present in the Aetherian Region.> Organisms in image presented are present in the habitat as of now.> Only organisms from the Freshwater Basin and Fertile Lowlands may migrate to these habitats.> Just an extra note, at the moment I am fusing the habitats of the Freshwater Basin with the Wetlands of the Region, as will be seen in the Phylogeny Charts immediately following this post. Wetlands as a habitat will have a separate identifier/ecology in the next time period.

The Swole Skelker on Mendacium grow smaller and get longer legs to be better able to avoid fires. Due to their shorter stature, they grow to focus on smell over taste, and develop sharp claws on their powerful legs to take down prey without the benefit of size.

In the coastal waters around the Tenebris and Intraveritas archipelagos, the Kinacopter redevelop slightly more advanced nervous system, allowing them to more effectively follow currents and weather pattern in search of food sources. They instinctually follow a set pattern around certain islands, making annual visits to area that have larger populations of coastal marine life at that time of year. Because of this, they are able to grow much, much larger, and change their anatomy to fit this.

The Cleana, between being able to use the hard-shelled organisms that it feeds off of as protection and its low nutritional value, has no real predators aside from the occasional lucky Kinacopter. They take advantage of their relatively complex compound eyes to put on mating displays, growing long, drag-inducing tails and becoming a dazzling variety of colors.
Some freshwater Twistalgae migrate to the wetlands. They grow thicker strand to deal with the saltwater, and a large, central taproot for nutrients and stability.
