It is the morning after the ritual, hangovers are nursed throughout the organisation as is tradition. But this time it is a very somber and almost scared atmosphere; that something got out is enough to strike terror into the staff. But something getting out and wiping out nigh everyone of the defenders? A lot of people are questioning how long humanity's luck will last.James is one of them.A long sleepless night, a long morning, surprisingly few tears, but he's almost become immune to losing people now. It's necesarry in this job to become desensistised to death but he was rather hoping he wouldn't become numb to losing his own.First Rachel, now Susan. >>1236904>James went to visit his Guardian Angel
> James found Jess
>>1236919>>1236909>>1236907Standing in the stable, James looks into a seemingly empty cell. The ground around him is charred from the flamers' purification of the goop that has clung to the concrete floors in some symbiotic or parasytic attachment. A bottle of wine scavenged from his locker stands by his feet, the green glass seeming to accuse him of failure every time he drinks from it. An hour's vigil on a hangover is simply too much, so you rest your head on the plastic glass blend with eyes straining for it. Some hint or clue. The desperate search is rendered obselete as the person who saved your life in Yellowstone National Park decloaks in a shimmering wave of blue and greens. The seven and a half foot tall armoured alien, a mass of muscle, metal, technology and ferocious instinct staring at him from the same indifferent metal eyes he saw six years ago. Green light ignites int he eyeslits as they stare each other down."Cassie told me she let you out." You say somehwat slurred. "You saved me and all of us." leaning back and you try not to fall as balancing is a bit of an everest. "Why? Why didn't you leave?"The creature raises it's wrist and presses keys on it's arm console. The same arm console that can detonate a nuclear esque suicide charge, fire a plasma cannon or anything in between. You hear you're on voice, riddled with panic and hysterical humour, "It's hunting them! Fuck! Rach - it's hunting them!"Nodding to yourself, "They're that bad? That you'd come back to this box if it meant getting rid of them?"A series of clicks are all the answer you recieve; apparently he doesn't have a voice clip saved for that. "Nothing for that?" You ask rhetorically trying not to sound bitter and failing.> I wish someone let you out sooner> I think we're the real monsters here> Did you get some good trophies out of it? > Write-In

>>1236947>>1236946>>1236940"I don't know man. Like, if somebody had got to you and let you out sooner - maybe things would be different." You lean down, over the course of thirty seconds and take a long swig over the course of what seems a lot longer. "If Sue hadn't blown up, Cass and Jess'd be fucked. Nobody would'a gotchu at all." This thought seems to be of signifigance, "By dying she bought time which got you which saved lives so by blowin up she saved lives." The thing click incoherently at you, but something of it's meaning sinks in. At best gyuess, honourable deaths aren't true deaths. That's the sense you get from it's metal face at least."'Tween you an me. We're the real monsters here. Killin' kids. Profitin off it. Gettin' off on it in my case. Fucking sick man." You put your hand on the glass to lean on and offly enough the Predator puts his hand opposite yours, his clawed hands oddly similar despite the huge size difference and three pronged claws. "How was your night?" You ask politely, "You at least get any good trophies?" The thing walks away from the glass, towards the back wall and peels away at his glove through a process hidden by his huge frame. The only thing letting you know he's removed it is the metal clanking to the ground with a dull thunk. After a handful of seconds spent shielding your eyes as the glass reflects and amplifies a huge ball of blueish green light. You see the trophy. This predator will never have to hunt again. In his cell, the Queen's head. Polished and preserved, every bit as fearsome as it was in life. Your face must show your amazement as the predator's clicks sound like laughter. After the initial reaction, the only desire you feel is to spit and piss on the bitch's skull. Twice now they've wrecked your life - each time most of your companions have suffered. But not you. Never you. "I'd offer you a drink... but don' think even I can get away with openin' a box up." You slur as the predator thumbs in the keys to reconceal the skull occupying half of his box. Jim. A beat of silence between the two of you. "Quesiton is what do you want to do about it?"The Director looks at you with pity and a lip curled in disgust, "If you're too drunk to see what I imply Jim, then perhaps you do not deserve this warning."Now that gets your attention, you feel a lot more sober."Within the next three years it will be your son and your wife buried. Perhaps zombies, perhaps cultists, perhaps some abomination of science. The fact is, you have the same unknowable quantity in your brain as many have throughout history.""Unkowable... what?" Jesus. Abraham. Hailed as prophets for miracles and wisdom." Your refleciton in the glass is doubting James Bowie, Charles De Gaulle, Rasputin. Unable to be damaged or extremely difficult to kill." "Hold up. I'm some kinda super dude?" You blurt out amidst her rant. I will overlook that outburst Jim. But were you so lucky to be gifted in that manner. You, attract the supernatural. It is the reason that this Yautja sees you not as a failed hunt, but as an ally. It used you as bait in Yellowstone. She informs you dully."Wait I'm a monster magnet? Rubbing your temples does little to disavow the throbbing headache as the Director fucks your mind harder than a ladyboy in Summer. In layman's terms. In reality, you are the greatest asset this organisation could hope for. Were it not for your gift, you would not be a survivor. You would not have been employed. Had you survived the Xenomorph, your friend here would have gutted you. Had you survived him, I would have ordered you shot. Bringing Rachel along was just leverage to make you think you complied willingly. Even through the wine, absinthe, vodka, gin, rum, lager, ale and moonshine haze your mind is still sharp enough to notice the irregularity, "You're being ridiculously open and honest. Why?""Because last night was a fantastic victory for humanity. But all it did was sweep the board clean in some regards. I need to know if you are still my White King, Jim or if you are in fact the Black Queen."While the chess metaphor goes over your head you understand The Director is putting her trust in you and testing your loyalty based off of this discussion. > You call that a victory?> You've learned something> What are you suggesting?> Write-In

"Interesting answer." Is all the Director responds with."Being a king isn't me. That's a piece that sits at the back while everyone else gets sacrificed. I can't sit around powerlessly knowing everyone else will die; at least not anymore." Lasping into silence, you can't help but realize something, "You've learned something." Last night was a victory. A number of traitors to humanity were exterminated by the Ancient Ones hands. We learned that they do not know of each other, they only have their own orders to carry out." "How did you learn that?""A number of security officers were compromised. One was responsible for releasing the xenomorphs three months ago, whilst another acessed Cassie's Server room and injected an unknown compound into her chair." The Director admits, "Ingenius, because Matt Phillips was poisoned by a compound stolen from Rachel's lab. Meaning when his badge was used to acess Cassie's chair eleven hours before the ritual it raised no eyebrows. They're taking bolder moves."The loss of Matt is another unexpected gut punch to add to the combination, you find yourself taking another swig despite being in conversation with the director, "How did you know about Matt's badge?" It was found at the site of Valentina and Gray's death. One of the two were in possession of it, painting them a traitor. > Val? You answer a tad too quickly, even if you weren't drunk on grief and everything you'd be coming across a bit defensive, "I mean seems convenient for it to be on them. Incrimination." I am quite disapointed that you would let your penis override your judgement, in a matter this important. Even with a dead woman it seems you have a weakness. "Weakness? Talking about weakness, how did we not notice this?" You accuse tossing the bottle against the cell in your anger. The Predator watches it shatter against the wall with fascination. If you have a solution beyond our existing draconian measures James, do tell. I believe I have already shown a willingness to encourage your routine paranoia. In fact, some would argue my weakness is my insistence on you as an asset to be a weakness. She begins walking away. Follow me. >>1238353>>1238321>>1238293"What do you mean." It's not even stated as a question. It's a fact. Gifted people, no matter the gift always end up monsters. Vampire myths were not allegories for diesease but what happens when someone with the gift for the otherworldy realised their time was up. Werewolves, a curse activated when certain herbs and later certain medicines were taken by those with extreme sensory gifts. I could go on, but it is a pattern that is laced throughout human history and prehistory. "Do I get to choose this or is it decided?" You counter with as much distaste as you can stomach. Right now it is optional. Eventually it will not be. The gifted are fated to be the creature. Your gift might be weak in comparison to some, but the quality of the path does not effect the destination. "Since when do you wax philisophical? Before I learned the truth I did all the time. I never accused you of anything HARRY. I didn't know who crafted that bomb." She stops and fidgets with her hair, "I'm sorry if I was a bitch.""HARRY? You say, "This has been expunged and you will forget it after this discussion.""Holy Shit." Jerry gasps.Cassie looks away awkwardly while HARRY scracthes and subsequently pulls off some of his remaining white hair. "The Predator rigged his console to it when we realized we wouldn't have time. He turned it from a time bomb into a remote detonation. I'm not allowed to describe the hive..." >>1243990Like I said earlier, the effectiveness that or enemy has hidden from us and screwed us over implies that they know is well enough to know that we are not stupid and thus that we know about them. Having our people operate in the dark at this point is just holding them back. Yes, even if we are not sure of their loyalty because now they won't be able to plead ignorance of a threat when they fuck up and it will be EASIER to spot the traitors.
>>1244001>>1243995So you guys aren't interested in explaining your short sighted decision to continue to keep everyone in the dark?
>>1244019>short sightedWe want as few people as possible to know we're onto the saboteurs. Max is fanatical about us, and has better intuition than us. We'll let them know what's going on once we know for sure ourselves.
>>1244024But the saboteurs surely already know that we are "on to them" (which is a generous way of putting it) so we are not gaining anything by keeping our employees in the dark except more micromanaging for us and more inefficiencies around.
>>1244041We don't know anything about them. Assuming they know about us is a great way to rationalize doubting everybody.
>>1244047They have been in our organization for years and, despite our paranoia, have managed to remain hidden while actively sabotaging us. How the fuck do they pull that off without having done their homework. Blind luck? No, face it, they know us better than our own mother.
>>1244055Where does any of this come from. All they would need to be is an unnamed assistant in one of the sections to go under our radar, given that the section heads choose who works under them without being vetted by us; they don't need to know us at all. We have reason to doubt everyone currently present outside of Max, who also has the most investigative potential.
>>1244077Cassie got drugged and left for dead, HARRY is to simple minded to be in a conspiracy, Jerry could have been recruited when he was sad, Max could have been recruited after being kidnapped.> choose who works under them without being vetted by usThen why the fuck aren't we telling them! You have just said we aren't doing all the necessary leg work all in our own and that we are letting our employees either unknowingly fuck us over by not knowing what to look for our knowingly fuck us over by not having checks in place. Given our canon level of paranoia this doesn't seem like it would actually be true.We have shown by our failures that one man being paranoid is not enough. And the director already said she found multiple enemy agents in this last debacle. Do you really think they think they got away with it with no suspicion? No, they know we are looking for them! We should have people on the outside we care about, but if not then we still have people on the inside to care about. We know what we do, why we do it, and that there is no redemption for us for it. "Tell us!" HARRY shouts."Those who died tonight, who died before, all the way back to Chem...did not die by accident. I'm sure you've been wondering about our run of bad luck. The director has been investigating. We're being sabotaged. Chem was the result of an intentional replacement of chemicals into tubes that couldn't hold them, and if nobody else has figured this out, C45513 sure has - security tapes of the stables don't mysteriously go missing, not under her watch. Somebody broke in, set those fucking Xenomorphs loose, and tried to do away with her. Somebody wants to end the world." It's not often you clench your fists but the bottle in your hand is being tested. You're here because I trust you all, and I need you to ]watch your backs, I need you to watch your team, and I need you to keep doing your jobs as you always have, even if you're wondering if you can trust everyone. We are still a team - 99% of the people here believe in what we're doing. If there's any that lived through the last mishap, well, I've already had words with the director over this."The Director is doing whatever it takes to find those fuckers, Hell she#'s even killing me in." You go to check your rolex forgetting it got Xeno blood-ed."Like ten minutes? So that I'm not assasinated or my fmaily murdered over this."Everyone looks concerned, but beneath the fear you note a glint of determination beneath everyone's gaze - although Cassie's is somehwat blunted by the inability to process the booze in her system. "I know this is tough stuff to hear, guys. I'm sorry. But now you know what I do. After cleaning up here, iIm going to deal with this as I know best - find a bottle, and a woman. Goodnight." You put your hands in your pockets, throwing your beer in the vague direction of the beercan as you walk out of the still ajar control room door. A text arrives on your phone telling you to come to the Armory. It's signed J. Since every other J initialed employee is dead as fuck you assume Jess has some business with you. >>1247818>>1247793>>1247741You grumble, swiping into the stairs. It is a strange thing how much a man misses Ben E King's Stand by Me - elevator music version. But then, when you woke up this morning or the day before or the one before that or the one before that you never imagined climbing up and down two hundred and nineteen steps while absolutely hammered on a quite possibly illegal conconction of alcoholic drinks.Eventually you arrive rasping and having left a few puddles of vomit on your route. Jess is sitting with a plain black box by her side. "Still alive luv?" She askes with an awkward smile, her brown hair is cut even shorter than usual. Probably not the time to be noticing that or how godlike military life made her legs.
