General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Totodile)

Badges: 2

Recently: You battled over a flaming structure for your second badge, and went fishing with Keira and Hana. Hana got zapped by a Chinchou!

“Hana!”

You run out to her, but the Chinchou sparks at you. It looks more scared than anything.

The Seel all whip their heads towards the danger, and your pokemon are looking too. Keira’s Nincada climbs to the top of her head.

Hana, with a hurt and stunned look on her face, falls over onto the sand. Her torso, head, and normal arm flail but ultimately can’t help her keep her balance.

Keira takes an unsure step towards Hana. Then another. Chinchou hasn’t noticed her yet.

This is probably best; aggression will make it attack more and it's stupid to touch someone if we aren't certain if there's still electricity.

“Hey! Hey!” You wave to the Chinchou. Belladonna waves with you, and gives little extra flourishes. Mace looks alarmed at the idea, but flails around too. Dice just absentmindedly joins in without really looking like he understands why. Gobble is giving it his all. “Chinchou! Over here!”

Chinchou looks at you and your pokemon waving around and making noise. Belladonna fires Pinn Missile into the air, and Dice spits up some water. No way he’ll miss you.

And he doesn’t. But he looks very scared. He unleashes Thunderwave in Keira's direction at random. But missed by a mile as Chinchou trips over the sand and falls on it’s face. This still causes all the Seel to run off, though. You guess they naturally fear an electric type.

“I’m okay.” you hear Hana just barely, under the sound of the Seel stampede. Keira is trying to help her up, but unable to lift her and just ends up pulling her feet into the sand. She tries again and falls on top of the poor girl.

Chinchou digs it’s face out of the sand and looks back up at you, Keira, and everyone else. It flinches in fear, then starts backing away to the sea.

“Sorry, Hana.” Keira removes her hands from Hana and gets off of her.

You squat down and open your arms wide in a welcoming gesture.“Chinchou, don’t leave. We’re not mad at you.”

It pauses. It can’t decide if this is a trap or not. But it seems to like your approach and doesn’t run away. It even starts cracking a relieved smile.

“I’m a little upset.” Hana huffs hair out of her face. Her voice carries a frustrated edge you haven’t heard from her before. You guess a shock like that would make anyone upset. “But I’ll get over it.” She pushes herself over with what looks liked a decently practiced move so she can face Chinchou. “I don’t want to battle you because I’m mad, Chinchou, but I do want to battle you.”

It thinks. You can almost see it’s thoughts because you’re thinking along the same lines. If it’s a trap, why would she announce that? Why not get him to lower his guard and attack?

It relaxes just a little, and even moves forward.

“My name- uff,” she pulls herself an inch over, “is Hana.”

It gets a lot closer. Almost within reach.

Her arm suddenly and without control slams into the ground at full force. It throws up sand, a lot of it directly into her own face.

Chinchou squeaks and runs for the sea. It runs right by you. No way you’ll be able to cut it off from here with your pokemon, but maybe you can still stop it.

Not wanting to somehow make the situation even worse, you decide not to chase after it.

Hana watches, then stops stretches her neck and plops her face into the sand.

“Is there anything we can do?”

“Leave me until the tide comes in.” She sounds completely defeated.

Keira giggles at the sarcastic comment. “You’re funny.”

Something about the sunny disposition of the young priestess makes Hana push aside her bad mood enough to stop moping. She still sighs, though. “I think I know what’s wrong. Can you get my bag?”

Keira nods and runs off to it. You move to be closer to Hana. You aren’t sure what to do and offer a hand. She takes it. Being a bit sturdier than the petite Keira, you’re able to at least pull her forward so she’s sitting up. You do it a little too hard though and she falls with her face in your crotch.

You both very quickly scramble to rectify the situation and pretend it didn’t happen. She must still be upset because she’s as red as an heirloom tomato. You aren’t quite sure what she mumbles to herself, but it even sounded like she called someone a huge dick. You hope she’s just blowing off steam.

Your pokemon come over to offer her support to lean on. That helps with the awkwardness.

“Sorry I blew it.” She tells you. “You put a lot of work into this, too.”

You look over over. Her one arm just hanging there, wet sand clinging to her hair and face. Wet shirt. You put your eyes back on the sand on her face.

“I don’t have what it takes to be a trainer like you or Polu or Jane. Maybe I should look at something else.”

>>
>>1197457
Well it could be something done more than once. First time to break the ice or get their imaginations going. The second time could get a bit more 'lewd bin'
>>
>>1197469
Or how about the first time gets just lewd enough to be exciting for these crazy kids, then the second time comes when Hana suggests a private game with Herb.
>>
>>1197476
Could also do have a private game with Val/Hana, Laki/Val, Hana/Jane(for hilarity purposes) and Herb with any of the above.
>>
>>1197502
I'd be happy with a private game involving Herb, Val, and Hana. That would be ideal for me, I think.
>>
>>1197506
Sounds good, what with Val playing the wingwoman.

You know what game is really good for mixed company and dice-based arbitration?

Spinda bottle.
>>
>>1197506
I'd prefer it for story/daaw'ing purposes, but the idea of Hana trying to arrange for a private game when Jane barges in and ends up inserting herself was really amusing for me.
>>
“Stop that talk right now!” Your voice comes out more forceful than you intended. “Dice bit me when we first met, and Gobble only helped because I promised food, and Mace ran away after our first encounter.”

Hana looks shocked by your outburst. She turns away so her hair covers her eyes from your view. “But I’m not as good as you, okay?” Her voice is a whisper.

“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices.” You do your best to quote that wizard from that movie. You want to tell her that she is good, but you know you can’t convince somebody of that. They have to see it with their own eyes. Mom taught you that when you tried cheering on your little brother.

She doesn’t say anything, then she sniffs, and then she lets out a snorty laugh.

“The DVD commentary for that one was really good.”

You’re not sure what to say and just sort of push air out your nose in a proto-laugh. She turns to you, this time with a smile.

“Oh, there’s some sand on your face.” You reach out and brush it off.

“Is this it?” Keira says as she drags the bag over and drops it by the two of you.

Hana nearly leaps. “Y-yeah. Thanks.”

To make things even more humiliating for Hana, Laki and Valerie emerge from the bushes. Val runs over and has to be assured that things are fine, and Laki watches without comment or expression.

She takes out some tools and starts messing with her arm and legs. For some reason it seems less invasive to look at her wet shirt cling to her boobs as her arm movements push them together than it does to watch her fiddle with pieces of her limbs.

Not that you’d look at poor innocent Hana like that.

More than once.

Or twice.

“Okay. All done.” Hana says, excusing self consciousness. “Sorry, everyone.”

Of course everyone tells her it’s fine.

“What happened?” Keira asks, not being able to read the mood. “I’ve heard of machine spirits. Were they upset? I don’t sense anything from them but I don’t know machines.”

Hana awkwardly explains that there was a lot of wear and tear on the arm and she knew it needed fixing for a long, but didn’t know the insulation was that gone. She again apologizes for being so negligent and causing everyone to worry.

“Do you need to see a mechanical priest?”

Her arm moves at a very, very slow pace. Her legs seem okay for now, though. “Umm, no. Well, it’s just the parts. Last time it took forever to get the parts in. I don’t want to stop my journey.”

“I can get papa to try to rush things.”

Hana really doesn’t want to impose on Valerie more than she has.

“You can get anything at Take, if you don’t mind it falling off a truck.” Laki comments.

Hana perks up. “You mean...”

“It’s not that dangerous.” Keira says. “The temple is really nice.”

Laki holds back a comment. You suspect maybe the temple is an exception. You're not that great at reading people, but you feel like your time with her is making you good at reading her, at least.

I'm pretty sure that's a pokeball exclusive thing. People still send letters via pelipper post instead of just zapping it.

Although, thinking about it, there's really no reason you couldn't have a pokemon hold it and send them both.
>>
>>1197621
held item's weren't a thing in old pokemon quest, but this one sort of does at least? Which I find confusing to be honest, though if they are a thing then it's not a bad idea.
>>
>>1197644
I think that in third gen mail-as-held-item was an actual mechanic.
>>
>>1197644
Last quest was more competitive, and I assume it's easier to tighten up a matchup if you take held items out of the equation. Gobble already made it more abusable by removing the move limit, no reason to add even more shenanigans.

This quest's more easygoing, so it feels like battle balance isn't quite so important.

“Let’s all go to Take!” You declare. “Umm, if that’s okay with everyone.”

“My kind of place.” Laki puts her hands behind her head.

“It’ll be an adventure.” Valerie says.

“I’d love to see the other parts besides the temple.”

Everyone turns to Hana.

“Well, if everyone else wants to go...”

“Going to Teotake, are ya?” The fisherman from the booth walks over. He looks a lot more hunched over when he’s not behind the little desk of his shack. “Good. You can get me a bolt of Ariados silk, then.”

“Teotake?” You whisper to Laki.

“Teotake is the island. Taki is the city.” SHe clarifies quietly.

“Eh? Time to chat amongst yourselves, huh? Well, given how that hack Aisake teaches you to fish by just waiting around, it should be surprising.” He hands you the list. The bolt of silk is just one of a few items. He says he wants you to help his cousin on another island, fetch a rare gem you’re not sure where to get, and a whole lot of bamboo. Also to prepare a bunch of bait.

“Save the bait for last. Still got plenty, despite youngsters just giving it out without catching anything.” He rolls his eyes and walks off. He stops and turns around to bow to Keira. “No offense meant, young priestess.”

She giggles. “It’s okay. Go with blessings.” She makes a quick gesture to him before letting him be on his way.

“So, does everyone want to ride in the yacht? We can leave tomorrow.”

“Good idea.” Laki says. “It won’t take long by boat, and you don’t want to get there at night. Lots of rocks.”

“Fabulous! Well, there’s room on the yacht, although someone might need to...share a bunk.” Her voice trails off as she slowly looks up at Laki.

“I’m good. I’ll sleep on the beach tonight.” Laki’s response surprises Valerie.

“I should go stay with the younger priestesses tonight.” Keira says. “High Priest Makai is probably up to his ears in questions. He’ll appreciate it if I distract them.”

“How about you, Herb?” Valerie asks.

“The ship sounds nice.” You don’t mind roughing it, but the thought of a nice, soft bed really sounds great right now. Your journey has been pretty rough on your body. “And Laki, if Keira isn’t coming, that means you won’t have to share a bunk.”

“That’s some inescapable logic you’ve got there, Soft Hands.” Laki tells you. “Alright. You pinched my underarm.”

“That’s a old timey expression.” Hana tells you.

“Old timey?”

You say goodbye to Keira for now. She says she’ll be back in the morning.

The four of you climb into the boat. You even have a chance to use the shower and get a fancy, fluffy towel. You maybe spend a little extra time in there, but Valerie tells you it’s no problem. You scrub down your pokemon too as an excuse to stay in longer. Nobody minds, except for maybe Mace, but even he enjoys being clean.

“It springs up like that naturally?” Valerie asks when you come out.

Hana’s arm spazzes. She gets it under control quickly.

“My hair? Yeah. I wish it was easier to style.”

“It suits you.” She says. “Well, sleep tight. Make yourself at home and feel free to grab any of the drinks in the cabin, except for alcohol in the bar, of course.”

“Night!” Hana says. “And Herb, thanks.” Hana doesn’t wait for a response. She closes her door.

Huh. You haven’t seen Laki. Maybe she already went to bed?

You yawn.

You decide to go to the cabin to practice healing your pokemon.

“Soft Hands. You’re not going to bed?” You’re surprised to see Laki there. She’s looking out the window out at the stars over the sea.

“I thought I’d try healing my pokemon.” You close your eyes and put your hands on Mace. You don’t feel any different. You try Dice, then Gobble.

You don’t do much. You guess you’re just drained. A good night’s sleep will help your pokemon, but you still think the ones that fought in the gym battle won’t be fully healed even after that.

“Impressive.” Laki looks back long enough to watch you droop over. “Hey, Soft Hands!”

“Hmm? Sorry." You yawn, barely keeping your eyes open. "So tired.”

She smiles down at you, then lifts you up with a grunt. “Tuckered out, huh? I guess you can get away without a massage tonight. Come on.” She starts carrying you down the hall.

“Laki?” You mumble to the warm presence carrying you.

“What’s up, Soft Hands?”

“Can you help me get stronger?”

“Yeah. I can do that. It’s easy. Well, not easy, but simple. Lots of people have opinions on the best way to train, but if you ask me, all it takes is pushing your muscles until they give out. Push until failure, then rinse and repeat. It takes effort though. But if you don’t really try your hardest, they don’t really fail. Make sense?”

“Yeah.” You yawn. “That makes sense.”

She hitches you up to get a better grip. You’re jolted back awake. You think you were only out for a second.

“Laki?”

“Yeah, Soft Hands?”

“Are you okay? Is something on your mind?”

“Nothing new is on my mind. I guess. I heard what you said to Hana about ability and choices. Pretty corny stuff.” You feel yourself gently lowered on a bed. Your shirt and pants are taken off. You’re too tired to care about it right now. That and you wear really stylish boxers that aren’t that different from your bathing suit. “Just got me thinking about the past.”

“But you’re okay?” You can barely keep yourself from drifting off.

“Fine. If you don’t really try, you can’t really fail, right?”

You wake up the next morning to a gentle hum and rocking. You quickly get up and stub your toe on Mace. “Sorry.” You say as you hop over to your clothes to get dressed.

“Herb! You missed it!” Valerie tells you. “There was a spirit.”

Keira nods. “Yup! But it might come back.”

“Might come back?” Valerie turns pale.

Hana seems a little scared too, but she’s still eating her cereal. They explain they left port and let you sleep in. You should be arriving at Teotake soon.

“A spirit?”

“A ghost pokemon.” Laki says after spitting into the sink. She puts her toothbrush down and gets more water to rinse her mouth.

“Which one was it?”

“I didn’t see. But it was screeching. I gave it directions to the next world, but I think it was just more interested in scaring people for now.”

“Well, it worked.” Valerie says. “I couldn’t sleep alone last night.”

“Me either.” Hana says.

Laki stretches. “Yeah, well, don’t expect me to put up with you two every night. I like my space when I sleep.”

“Laki, can we start training now?”

“You were serious, huh? Alright. But no wussing out.”

Valerie clasps her hands together. “Oh, are you going to be doing something like morning yoga? I miss my classes.”

Laki smiles a little condescendingly. “Herb. Get Belladonna.”

You ask Bella to come over. Laki tells you to lift her up and hold her out.

“Okay, now what?”

“That’s it. Hold her there.”

“For how long?” She doesn't weigh much. This should be easy.

“Until you can’t anymore. Not until you don’t feel like it, but until you can’t.” She leans to Bella. “If Herb puts you down before I say so, hit him with a Pin Missile, okay?”

Bella cheers an affirmative.

“Laki!”

“Kidding, kidding.” She leans to Bella and winks. “Not kidding.”

It gets really hard after a while. You keep it up as hard as you can though. Gobble joins you, doing the same thing Laki’s Meowth. It threatens him with claws but ultimately decides to go with it as the sunlight makes it comfortable and sleepy.

Hana says nothing. She just watches and eats her cereal. Valerie gives you a thumbs up before talking to her pokemon about their next contest.

“Exercise is good for spiritual energy.” Keira tells you. “A strong body and mind compliment each other.”

“Does that mean you want to train too? After this, Herb is moving on to Dice.”

Your arms shake and sweat runs down your face. How many minutes has it been? Laki flicks your sagging arm.

Keira shies away. “Well, you know. I have to keep an eye out for more spirits...”

Laki smiles again. She looks like she's really in her element. She turns back to you. "Today is a warmup. It's going to get a lot harder. I hope you're willing to commit."

Your arms are so upset with you right now. They're letting Bella droop.

She flashes a small Pin Missile and an evil grin. You raise her back up.

it would be very hard for Herb to do Leg Day, considering his pokemon go from 5lbs, 20lbs, 40lbs, then 230lbs

Best thing he could do would have Keira or Val sit on his shoulders for squats and work up the waifu weight list from there

>>1198275

All of the mons sans Gobble would be a decent start and we could pile on the other's mons, too, in order to adjust. Gals wouldn't be too much more than that.

I think it would be nice to see a normal crew, even if we don't interact with them a lot. Learning how to make really good omelets from the cook, getting a lesson on the constellations, ect.

Maybe not the constellation one, that would be a nice way to get some info on the native culture from one of the girls, as well as being pretty romantic

Keira: I hope Herb returns to trusting me soon. He seems fine now, but I don’t want to push it. I don’t mind paying your penance. I got in plenty of trouble as an acolyte, but I hate the uncertainty when it comes to people. There are no rules or dogma to follow. Should I talk to him about it? Maybe I should try hugging him or something to see how he reacts. Mainlanders seem to think where you touch over clothes matters a lot instead of skin to skin contact, so I should be careful. I saw how Valerie jumped when Laki pinched her bottom even though she’s wearing shorts.

I wish he saw me handle that spirit. That’s what I’m great at.

Valerie: I’m glad Herb and I are pushing each other. I’d have no idea he was shy if he didn’t tell me. He did that dinner for everyone, he always seems to make friends wherever he goes. I guess a friendly attitude and a disarming smile goes a long way. I wonder what we’re going to do next? Oh, I can’t believe the talk I had with Hana. But it turned out well. She really opened up and the two of you are much closer now.

I wonder if Herb has any idea what his dare led to.

Hana: I touched it I touched it I touched it! With my face! Through pants, yes, but that counts to mainlanders, right? Did he notice? How could he not? Does he care? He’s probably fed up with me being so high maintenance. I can’t wait to be able to get the parts and find a way to go anywhere. Once I stop being a burden on everyone, I can start earning their respect. I’m sure not doing it with my training skills.

I can’t believe the conversation I had with Valerie. Her confidence is amazing.

I hate hate hate hate hate that my stupid body became the center of attention like that. I don't want to be defined by it. I just want to curl up and go into a cave with food and movies and never leave again. But I can't do that now. Not with my pokemon and everyone here with me.

And my promise. I can do it. I just need to stop messing things up so much. I'm going to get it together, and prove to Herb, and myself, that I'm a real adventuring trainer, just like everyone else.

Jane: What’s his deal? He has to know about what happened to me before. That’s the only reason he’s specifically invite me to coffee, right? How did he figure it out? Did he talk to mom or dad? I asked them but neither knew anything about any John or Herb. He’d use a pseudonym, of course.

Am I being crazy?

No. John is just someone I can’t afford to lower my guard with. Not that I can do that with anybody. Maybe I’ll learn something over our coffee date.

APPOINTMENT! Not date. And I’m going to win it.

(continued)
>>
>>1198459
That face when Jane is the first girl to get a real date with Herb.
>>
>>1198459
Polu: I hope Herb’s doing well. He’s got some guts, but one of these days he’s going to get himself into more trouble than his good luck can handle. That bone should keep him safe if he remembers to use it though. I really hope I didn't make a mistake trusting him with it.

I need to stop worrying about others and worry about myself. My sister is fine, my family is fine, and my new friends are fine. I’m going to blow their minds when I show them the results of our training. It’ll be their turn to catch up to me.

It's going to be radical.

Laki: Well, Herb definitely lives up to that quote of his. He’s trying his best, at least for now. He’s been a bit slack on his training, in my opinion, but I guess with everything going on I can overlook that. It’s not like I can judge anyone on not trying.

Gah. Why’d he have to go and do that? Make me want to do things? Care what people think?

Whatever. I’ll just help him out as long as it’s fun.

Speaking of fun, I’ve got to tease him some more. I might not have the guts to do that with people that actually have experience, but Herb (and Valerie) let me feel like I know what I’m doing.

Yeah. This is better than my plan to get back at Jane by training to beat her in a battle. No way am I going to let myself get humiliated like that again. Losing was bad enough, but the things she said cut way too deep. I’m just going to push Herb, take it easy, and enjoy the comfiness of looking like a cool older girl to him and Valerie. There's something approachable about both of them that makes it easy.

I wonder how far I can go before it gets scary? I wonder how far he'll let me?

As someone who liked the cast of last quest, these characters are all significantly better. I like every single one of them.
>>
>>1198507
Agreed, I like this cast a lot. It's actually sorta a problem since i want romance, but I have no idea with who it's going to be. The Herb Bowl is going to be brutal cause I feel like Herb being so friendly is going to get one of the other girls hurt if he goes too long without actually going out with a specific girl. I've seen it happen before.
>>
>>1198459
>>1198507
Poor Keira. She still doesn't seem to understand our boundaries, but damn if she isn't trying.

Valerie's actually doing pretty well. Good on her.

Hana should know how proud of her we are for her persistence. She does know a thing or two about our 'pride' now, after all.

Jane can't seem to let her guard down at all. That must be exhausting.

Polu's doing well too, which is nice. It sounds like he has some things going on we don't know about. I'm sure he'll be elated when he eventually kicks our ass.

Laki's getting a bit of her groove back. Wonder what'd happen if we told her to back down from her advances, and when we did we told her "Hey, well at least YOU asked."

I'm also a bit concerned about what Jane said to her. In Jane's mind, she's returning fire, but Laki has no idea. That's gotta be tough.

>>1198522
Herb Bowl was always going to be brutal, what with such a big prize. We can only hope that whoever wins will respect his decision to remain pure until marriage.
>>
>>1198522
Hana's the one who seems to have the most obvious crush so far, and she also seems to be the one who's crushing the hardest. Fortunately, I like her the best, so I say we try and get closer to her.

Valerie is a closer second than I'd thought she'd ever be, though, so more cute stuff with her is also welcome. Jane is growing on me a little too.
>>
>>1198544
The Herb bowl is large enough for everyone to have a serving and seconds, and thirds, and however much they could possibly want.
>>
>>1198597
The Herb bowl could feed the islands for a month, people and pokemon.

All these route options got me thinking. If you were a VN option, what would your route be? What's your secret baggage/ fetish appeal/ favorite gift? Any other details?

I'm a defeatist, I'm kind of hairy and fairly tall, and I collect rocks. My bad end would probably have me quit school and retreat into myself, working enough to eat and pay utilities, and just putz about on the internet until I'm old.
>>
>>1198762
I'm musclefat, which is actually just fine for me. It's the sort of body I think looks best for me, and I'm happy with how I am.

I'm a vanillafag at heart, and the best thing about sex is knowing your partner is enjoying it just as much as you are, and that they love you a whole lot. That said, light bdsm can be fun, and I tend to take on a submissive role whenever that's on the table. The stereotype of enjoying the contrast when compared to being I'm charge and assertive outside the bedroom is true in my case, though due to my vanillafag tendencies, gentle femdom is better for me than anything too crazy.

As for what sort of route I'd be, I have no idea what sort of archetype I could even assign myself. I had a nasty breakup a few years ago with a girl who I thought was wonderful, but who turned out to be genuinely emotionally abusive, and I haven't seen anyone seriously since. I guess my route would involve me finding someone I felt comfortable opening up to again.

Baggage: Low self esteem, no real practice making friends.
fetish appeal: I don't think I have anything like that.

...people don't give me gifts anymore cause I don't know what I want. Cash is ok I guess.

At least i'm easily entertained so I just need to find something to distract myself with to not wallow in despair. Mecha stuff currently as well as video games and books as staple entertainments. Family used to try getting such things as gifts but I inevitably already had what they got me.

Bad? end: successful suicide attempt, technically I only have one half-assed attempt under my belt but I'm sure something will come along that will make ending things really appealing again.

I'm basically already living your "bad end" and am thankful i've got it this nice, it can always get worse.
i've seen therapists and tried meds, this is normal for me and I don't have some traumatic event to excuse my being the way I am.
>>
>>1198056
Considering how low we rolled, this went well, what would a good roll have lead to?

I'm worried if we actually ever confront laki about her problems, with how low her self esteem clearly is, she'll break down to tears at how pathetic she feels
>>
>>1198787
I don't want any of the girls to cry, it'll make me cry too
>>
>>1198788
maybe she has to cry before she can move past her mistakes and grow? She seems like she is using this cool punk act of hers as a kind of defense mechanism to avoid dealing with things and it probably isn't healthy, and stunting to development.
>>
>>1198792
True, I wonder what she's actually like without over compensating. I'm interested to see how the group would react if laki was confronted by someone who isn't a naive pushover, would she leave? Try to act tough and get torn apart? Would the group think less of her? I already feel bad for her, I'm glad we're resolved to helping her out of this funk. unsure on herb bowl I think I'd be happy with literally all, although imo val would be the best match for him, jane and laki seem way more interesting, and kieras my favourite
>>
>>1198762
Hmmm, interesting question. I'm a former /fit/ guy who lost most of his muscle after college and getting a job. My fetishes are pretty personal, but I'm a switch who enjoys muscled bodies and large tits which is one reason I like Laki so much.

I guess my real issues involve my lack of drive, the "you can't fail if you don't try" thing really speaks to me as a person, because I've been there. My bad end would just be not doing anything until I died of whatever killed me, just kind of drifting through life, never committing to anything.
>>
>>1198762
>If you were a VN option, what would your route be? What's your secret baggage/ fetish appeal/ favorite gift? Any other details?

So my route would probably be the trap route (not the trap you are thinking) basically you trip my flags I'd be actively be pursuing you. Would be problematic if you were going for someone else.

Baggage: edgy backstory, abusive mother, broken home, poor socioeconomic background. Still supports my drunk of a mother though no longer live with her. Crazy, but nice roommates. Super busy with work and school, so would find you during my free time.

Fetish Appeal: gamer appeal, comics nerd appeal, sorta handsome but very approachable. Dress poorly, but clean up for dates, so possible gap Moe appeal there. Still a virgin, but in mid 20s so some people are into that. Friendly, loud, and a motor mouth when excited otherwise very calm and laid back. Kuuderre appeal because of mostly level headed and calm demeanor.

Favorite gift: Food any child would like ie pizza, chicken nuggets, Mac n cheese, etc. Gaming objects, video games, board games, card games, basically anything that's a game other than sports stuff. Comic book nerd items. Movie nerd items.

Misc: Pretty secret lewd like Hana. Different body issues from her though, just to skinny and into working out at all, but decently tall. Hana is probably the most like me, but I have pretty alright social skills. I definitely hide my power level except for nerdy t-shirts.
>>
>>1198800
That's exactly what Jane is like to Laki. It hurts Laki the stuff that Jane says, but she tries to hide it the best she can. Sounds like Laki wants to become a stronger trainer to get payback from Jane. So we'll see as Jane pushes Laki more if Laki crumbles under the pressure.
>>
>>1199444
We need to stick around if there's another Jane/Laki fight. If Jane gets personal we need to lay down what's acceptable behavior. Tell her that just because her hero fell short of her expectations doesn't mean she should lash out.

Also, I wonder if I made my VN question too negative? What would your good end look like? I'd like to buy my childhood home and raise a family.

I bet Hana would be a great movie maker. We need to run into a Pokemon film contest or something to get a chance to bring it up.
She'd probably make a fun Godzilla/Gamera-esque toku movie.
It could also lead into helping easy Laki's worries by having her make films based on and about island legends and culture to help preserve it.
>>

Honestly, I hear it's pretty hard to get into the industry at all. I be psyched to get a job in general. I'm the same anon. I'd might have changed cause on wifi now.

I personally love RPGs, adventure games, and any kind of game that have narratives. So working on those sorts of games would be amazing.
>>
>>1200128
I ask because that's not the kind of thing you need to wait years and a degree to get into. Plenty of indy teams are making big patreon bucks off of adult games or ideas they ran wild with. None of us are realistically going to jump into AAA game production without a ton of experience and connections, either.

If it's something you really want to do, just do it. Grab Unity or Unreal and start following tutorials. If you already have programming experience you can be shitting out content in a few weeks. Once you're far enough see if people would like to join in on your project(s). It's very possible to make moolah off of that if you go hard enough.

That's different from a minimum wage starting position OFC. Different kind of grind. Point is, you have options.
>>
>>1200220
Good advice. I know it's not the most efficient path, but I've always wanted to go to college. I'd be the first in my family to get a Bachelor's degree. I'm also sorta am afriad I won't cut it in games, so I wanted to have skills I could find a wide variety of work with.

>I'm also sorta am afriad I won't cut it in games, so I wanted to have skills I could find a wide variety of work with.
If you go hard enough on anything you will rock at it. People don't wake up being excellent at something randomly one day. Degree-less family I can understand, and having one definitely does make you more marketable. It really comes down to what you want to do and how soon.

Best of luck with whatever you do, either way.

It's an unpopular opinion, but I really did love the shitty B-movies that you could star in.

I was about to say that it's probably not going to happen, but come to think of it a tropical climate is probably pretty desirable for certain types of movies, so I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a tiny agency that arranged tropical scenes for mainland directors to shoot on.
>>
>>1200920
id's change per thread, so even though they can stop samefagging effectively a lot of people problems with namefags are eliminated, mostly that with an identity the content of your post often times ends up meaning less then who it was that said it, something people tend to dislike on a largely anonymous imageboard.

personally I don't give a fuck, but that is the issue some people are probably concerned with.
>>
>>1201290
There is no proof that the namefag is the same person, so their name is still meaningless. It's not like anyone else is using a trip in the thread. No reason to get bent out of shape about it regardless. I say let people do what they want. I pretty much agree, I just don't give any fucks.
>>
>>1201316
the trips really don't come into it, nobody thinks that anyone is not who they say they are because honestly who really give a fuck; nobody is that important except the QM. But take archivebro for example, he has been in pokemon quest for pretty much forever so if he says something then people are more likely to agree to it if he normally has good ideas.

But see alot of anonymous folks do not like that, as they strongly believe that all posts should be judged equally on the merit of what they say instead of who it was that said them which tends to mean namefags make them angry.
>>
>>1201355
Interesting, I still don't think it's anything to be upset over, but I can understand why someone might be. People can do what they want ultimately, so I really have no stake in the argument.
>>
>>1201316
Right, I guess I have to explain it. Namefags and tripfags are notoriously thirsty for attention and validation, and will often become personally invested in arguments because they view it as, among other things, an attack on the identity they've developed. Obviously, not all name/tripfags behave this way, but such a substantial majority of them either do or eventually come to do so that the reputation is commonly seen as deserved among older posters.
>>
>>1201397
I mostly have the same viewpoint, I just find it interesting as well and wanted to make sure you understood.
>>
>>1201401
>>1201413
Thank you, Anons. I enjoy your candor. I feel like people in Gobble's quest tend to pretty decent or at the least have decent tastes in quests. Haha
>>
>>1201429
All fun an games until someone loses an eye.
>>
>>1201445
But that's when the fun really starts, my Anons.
>>
>>1201445
You really think Gobble would do that?

Just permanently maim one of the characters because we rolled badly? :^)

Herb's luck won't last forever if we keep befriending everything that wants to kill us. Of course, that's why we love him.
>>
>>1201445
that brings up an interesting point, I've read Gobbles quests quiet a few times and I've gotten to know their style quite well. Gobble is a really fun QM until you fuck up really badly and could have prevented it, then they generally fuck with you badly just so that it does not fuck up the tension of important rolls in the future.

Gobble is fun and lewd and all these things that make it easy to forget they are a QM that would make you roll to see how crippled your pokemon permanently becomes if you fuck up badly enough.

But that was the old quest, to get to the point I expected that part when we fucked up in the gym battle to go much much worse because by all rights and gobbles old way of QM'in that was the sort of situation we should really not have gotten away with. It's made me start to think that maybe because the tone of this quest is a lot lighter gobble does not intend to be so unforgiving and that maybe the players can get away with more but if that is a good thing or a bad thing I have no idea.
>>
>>1201355
God it's weird being mentioned in conversations here. I think one anon brought up that they hadn't seen me a while when I jumped in at the end of pokemon quest after vanishing for a while, and that was jarring as fuck.

Somewhat along the lines of >>1201401, I wanted people to be able to have a general idea of who they were hurling praise/abuse at. It was an identity thing, and I don't really mind that most people are anons or some might slight me for it. I'll do my thing, they'll do theirs, and we'll all quest together if the QM is kind.

I also spent years on the archives before ever posting on the boards, so, y'know. There's where the name came from.
>>
>>1201515
I think for now it is because these are still gym battles. Last time the Pokemon maiming mostly happened at the E4 stages because these are Pokemon at their near or max potential giving all they had and sometimes even more.

>>
>>1201501
Our luck already ran out pretty hard against the Raichu. The only reason we didn't get super fucked up was because they aren't carnivorous species.

>>1201555
I think it is both. In some situations things are gonna be more dangerous, regardless of when it takes place. As the plot goes on you usually just get those times of danger more often.
>>

As a general question to everyone since my memory is a bit hazy, was there any point prior to the eye episode where we well and truly fucked up? I really do hope we start being at least slightly more cautious with angry wild Pokemon. Not just for Herb's sake, but think about it. All the friends and how close he is.

Herb won't be the one getting hurt, it will be the person or Pokemon that takes the hit for him.
>>
>>1201642
nah anons would still do dangerous shit, the fact that they continued to do dangerous shit after Robins eye with very clear indicators that the decision could go horribly wrong is proof enough of that. In every reality Robin loses that eye.

We are really gonna ending developing that healing magic, amiright?
>>
>>1201661
We would probably need to start rolling well on healing to do that. None of our attempts since getting healing powers have been spectacular.

Focusing on it would be Herb's means of taking responsibility for his risky behaviors.

Yeah, I really enjoy the players for Gobble's quest. We've got a good vibe going on. I'm really glad it's this way and i think Gobble is mostly to blame for it.
>>
>>1201681
got nothing else to do till Gobble sets me up with my next fix, or it could be another QM but there are very very few I like and Gobble is by far the fastest.
>>
>>1201682
True, but when we fuck up we really do fuck up.

Still, we'll be getting plenty of practice. Maybe if we focused on exploring for a bit we might be able to make a daily habit of keeping our pokemon out of their balls and heal them at the end of every day as training.

>>1201691
It's a definitely a different feeling, right? Strategizing is the most fun, but I can't do it as much in this quest since I'm too unfamiliar with the source material nowadays.

>>1201707
This is why I'm here for now and not spread out on the other quests I used to follow. This quest is cozy enough that I don't have to expend energy unless I want to, and I value that deeply by the end of the day.
>>
>>1201703

>>1201723
The quest makes me happy I can use my autistic Pokemon knowledge to help others.
>>
>>1201703
Hopefully Loanah's healthcare system is more robust than ancient Rome's.

I've shilled for it before, but I have to ask, how widely practiced are the aura massages Jeneane gave last quest? Because those were the coolest, and I feel they'd fit Herb's M.O. to a T.
>>
>>1201736
Maybe we can just reinvent the wheel here. He use aura to heal and we give massages. Not really far off here.
>>
>>1201501
If/when we get killed Gobble can just focus on smutbins and making those VN's.
>>
>>1201747

>>
>>1201739
I can see that happening, but I think seeking tutorship for our aura powers would be fun too.

>>1201747
If we get killed we get to play as Herb the Phantump, I assume. Or as Fug, who now needs to convince Giratina to put that pawn's soul back where he got it.

>>1201739
>>1201766
Last I checked, it was still unclear whether Herb's powers were aura, psychic, or something else entirely.
>>
>>1201766
more likely the perspective would just switch to whoever wins the waifu wars, at least temporally. I remember Gobble saying that if Kat had successfully an hero'd to save Robin during the eye thing she would have entered a coma and we would take over as Robin trying to save her.
>>
>>1201785
Herb's powers are aura. I'm pretty sure that's what Keira said when Herb freaked out about actually having them.
>>
>>1201766
I sure can't wait to try and help trainers cook at the campfire, only to be attacked by their Pokemon and chased off.
>>
>>1201791
Honestly, I'd really like Herb to be incapacitated or occupied just for the chance to do that. I think I'd most like to play as our older sister, who now needs to protect us from these hooligan kids that let our little brother hurt. Or maybe we'd play as Gobbs, who needs to lead our team to bring Herb's unconscious body to safety.
>>

Tripfags that use trips barring a specific, needed use (IE, we need to be able to recognize Gobble, obviously.) generally completely misunderstand the entire point of an anonymous format.

One of the main draws of 4chan is that because you're anonymous you essentially have freedom from ego. It doesn't matter who someone is, they could be celebrities or random peasant chucklefucks, it doesn't matter; their posts are considered on an equal basis and are weighed by their content, not the notoriety of the people who wrote it.

That's a main point of brotherhood and solidarity around here, even. We're all united in ultimately not being self-gratifying fuckheads due to the fact that it's essentially impossible to gain any long-term personal benefit from what we say.

When someone uses a trip for just general posting, what they're signalling is "I want to accrue an identity, because I want to stand out from the crowd and have notoriety. I'm concerned with my self-image, and believe that if I cultivate an image here I should get special attention and consideration. I need people to know who they're talking to because I literally cannot stand the idea that I have to reestablish myself every thread because I don't stand out and have a reputation. I have an innate need to feed my ego."

Which makes sense in other places, but not here where the culture is actively hostile to that kind of selfish attitude. Here it's understood that when you name yourself, you're essentially making it a FACT that your every word is going to be pandering in nature: To yourself, and to others in order to increase your esteem. This is something you can see on reddit all the time, and why they're infamous for circle-jerking; because they're all named and there is a voting system, they all have a reputation to establish and people will be more favorable towards them if they validate their egos as well. Therefore, posts often need to start out with shit like "Even though most people here are significantly more intelligent than normal-" in order to rake in a positive reaction. I'm not saying these people do it by design, but the super-structural impact of their system means it's that kind of person who is going to worm their way to the top.

People on 4chan are ACTIVELY hostile to that kind of thing, though. The structure here is set up specifically to guard against that. SPECIFICALLY. So when someone just does it anyway, people are going to have a negative reaction and infer that the person doing it is a gigantic cunt.

Tripfags are rare here because people usually get inculcated into understanding that it's not really acceptable here pretty fast, so when one DOES crop up they're generally an *especially* attention-whore-y and autistic variety by virtue of the fact that pretty much everyone else would have been dissuaded from doing that. The stereotype about their cunty attitudes crops up from that fact, it's not just made up as an insult.

They're just contemptible people
>>
>>1202081
Interesting, would you say that these reason are also why namefags catch flack here on 4chan?
>>
>>1202089
Namefags aren't as bad because they are fine with people trolling them by taking their name.
>>
>>1202089

well you're not wrong, for the most part at least. There are always exceptions as to why some people might choose to be namefags outside of that though. But I would probably say that is a fairly in depth explanation of the root of the hostility from what I have seen over the years.

In the end it really doesn't matter though, everyone here is a weeaboo anyway

Yeah, there's a lot messed up about this picture if you give it more thought than absolutely necessary. Age is pretty ambiguous in porn or pokemon alone, so let's give the benefit of the doubt and say it's not weird that Ash or Misty are there. But Bonnie goes too far for me. Latias passes the jack harkness test, so she's fine. But it is weird that Lillie and Lusamine are both there. And is this an open romantic relationship, or just a sex thing? Because if it's the former, there's no chance every single one of them are okay with that, if it's the latter, there's no way there's enough of Ash to go around. Either way Deliah shouldn't be there. And wasn't Malva in team Flare? Is it weird how much institutional power is present between the two champions, legendary pokemon, and numerous gym leaders? Don't they all normally live across the world? Who is taking this photo? Why? If they're not posing for a photo, what is everyone (namely Willow) looking at? Where even are they? Overall, it doesn't really cater to my fetishes.

Super comfy. Great image. Out-of-focus background really gives an impression of depth and makes Moon pop out. Sand, sunlight, and soft towel all look super inviting. Moon herself is easily recognizable, her pose shows off her assets well without looking unnatural, and her smile invites me to stay. It's obvious that she's nude sunbathing on a beach in alola, and turning to give us her attention. Her hair and skin have a healthy shine to them which makes them look even softer. Face is a little angular though. Artist signature is easy to find and legible without being intrusive. Even the censor bars are in good fun. Makes me happy, like she and I could fuck right there or just relax in the sun together and it wouldn't matter which. Welcome to Alola/10.

You need another shower. Laki worked you to the bone. After holding

You think about what next time will be like and for a fraction of a second, you regret asking Laki to help train you. It was more a reflex from your body rejecting the thought of more exercise than a conscious thought.

You give Gobble a pat on the head, he joined you even though he hasn’t fully recovered from the gym battle yesterday. You wonder if you should have stopped him, but he seems so happy to do what you do.

You get dressed and dry your hair as you come out. The others are on the deck, watching the next island get closer. You’re almost there.

“But is it right? To buy something that might have been stolen?”

“Not everything on the second hand market is stolen.” Laki says. “And besides, isn’t that what you have insurance for? I’m sure you if this pretty boat of yours sinks, you won’t be paying out of pocket.”

“But-”

“Relax. Realistically, that stuff is getting sold to somebody. It might as well be for Robocop over here.”

Everyone falls silent at the crack at Hana and her cybernetic limbs.

"What's a Robocop?"

Well, maybe not Keira.

Hana wants to be normal. Being over sensitive about wise cracks may make things worse to be honest.

“Laki!” You try to storm over. You feel so awkward. But you can’t just do nothing. “Apologize, right now!”

Things have gotten really tense. Laki responds to your tone instinctively with a glare, and sticks her chest into yours, keeping eye contact. It’s terrifying and more arousing than it should be.

Hana bursts into what comes off as forced laughter. “Robocop! That’s good! The remake isn’t great and misses a lot of the point, but the behind the scenes stuff with the costume and-”

“See? Hana can take a joke. What, I can call you Soft Hands and you won’t say anything, but the same doesn’t apply to Hana? Everyone’s got something we can take shots at. You’re Soft Hands. Polu is a surf-dork who has to wear sunglasses because his eyes can’t ever go higher than someone’s chest, Keira is a Mankey who climbs everyone.”

Keira laughs. “That’s true. I do.”

“And Valerie is...well, she’s got... uhh...” She struggles to see a flaw in Valerie, she gestures up and down her body and face. “Well, she’s little miss perfect.”

“Umm, thanks." Valerie smiles, despite herself. "But I don’t think that’s the point. You can’t just make a joke about-”

“Whatever. I’m going to go find what we’re looking for.Try not to get offended too much until I get back tonight. Who knows, maybe they have a back alley doctor that can remove sticks from butts.” Laki hitches up a backpack. She hops over the edge of the boat onto the dock. She turns right around and comes back to Hana to awkwardly ask her to write the parts on a piece of paper, then leaves again.

“Are you sure I shouldn’t come with you?” Hana shouts.

“See?” Laki points both fingers at Hana as she walks backwards “She gets to make jokes about me being dumb!”

Hana awkwardly points finger guns back. Her robotic hand is noticeably slow to catch up to her real one.

Laki is gone.

“So, what should we do?” Valerie asks.

problem is that she doesn't see herself as mannish. She doesn't look like a roided up chick with a clit the size of your thumb, so she doesn't feel insecure about being mannish

Hana thinks that she's ugly because of her prostetics and scars, so giving her a nickname about them isn't cool. It's also a lot more harsh than Soft Hands, and came out of nowhere. She's never given anyone else a nickname, so randomly calling Hana Robocop fell flat

“I want to get that silk before I do anything else.” You I hate the feeling of having something to do and not doing it. It’ll nag at you the whole time if you try to do something else.

“Well, I want to see Take. I mean, really see it! A priestess snuck off temple once and came back with a lot of stories.” Keira says.

“Yes.” Valerie says, then nods with a little more confidence. “Yes! I’m not afraid of a little ruffian culture. We can go anywhere Laki goes, isn't that right? We’ll have a girl’s day and go shopping! Hmm, I wonder if they have a good pedicure place...”

“I umm, probably shouldn’t leave the ship.” Hana says.

“Oh. Do you want me to-” Keira’s offer is cut off by Valerie covering her mouth.

“The last thing she wants to do is make a big deal out of it or feel like a burden. She’ll be fine.” Valerie whispers.

Keira pulls Valerie’s relaxing hand from her mouth. “You touched me.”

“Oh!” Valerie panics. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean any disrespect. I completely forgot.”

“It’s okay.” Keira whispers back, a look of understanding washes over her face. “I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, or feel different.”

“We’ll be back before tonight.” Valerie says. “Let Mr. Schwibbles know if you need anything!”

Who?

“Gah!” You jump so high you’d think you were Mace. A Mr. Mime somehow snuck up behind you. He’s wearing a little bowtie.

You’re terrified of Mr. Mime. The idea that he was on the ship the whole time is too much to handle right now. You try not to establish eye contact.

“Take care!” Valerie and Keira leave.

Looks like you’re on your own for the forest. You’re already feeling sore as you pick up your surprisingly heavy bag.

Hana fidgets, like she has something to say but isn’t sure how to say it.

it's not a major part of her characterization that she feels ugly, where Hana does. Laki might not think of herself as cute, but she knows that she is attractive. Hana is constantly trying to cover herself up, even if it means she's wearing heavy clothing in the tropics. Laki is fine with showing off her body

Except she doesn't like showing off her torso because she feels she's let herself go flab and lost her peak physical condition. It's not a major characterization, though, you are correct. Hana is much worse off where it comes to being content with her outward appearance.

You keep an eye on Mr. Schwibbles as he vanishes back inside the ship. The way he silently moves and keeps the same smile is unnerving, to say the least.

“Sorry about confronting Laki like that. I shouldn’t have done that.” There’s a quarter second of silence. You can’t tolerate it and keep talking. “I-I wouldn’t have said something for her taking a jab at anyone like that. So don’t think it was because I think you’re special or anything.”

Ahhh! What are you saying!

“I mean, because you are, but not like that. But as a friend, and-”

“It’s okay.” She plays with her hair. “I know what you mean.”

You choke the need to make sure and keep going on and on. There’s no way you can elaborate in a way that doesn’t embarrass yourself more.

“You look really good, by the way.” Oh jeez this is bad timing, isn’t it? It’ll sound insincere. Quick! Elaborate! “I mean, I always think that. But I really like that shirt. It brings out your eye-” You always compliment eyes, and it doesn’t bring out her eyes. It’s the wrong colour, “I mean, it compliments your chest.”

If only you were out at sea so you could jump overboard. It’s too shallow here to drown.

“Thanks.” You see a smile, despite her hiding her face. “You’re really sweet, Herb. You're not like other boys.”

Oh.

You’re about to say something else, but you see Mr. Schwibbles looking at you from the cabin window. You say goodbye and leave for now.

You head into the forest with your pokemon running all around you.

“Stay where I can see you, everyone!” You say as you put your Pokedex away after double checking it. Ariados and Spinarak like shaded forests, so keep going deeper.

The tree canopy is heavy. Really heavy. The trees here seem less tropical than the other islands. It almost makes you nostalgic for your old home. The smell, the air approaching the same dryness, which makes everything sound just a little more familiar. You don’t care what anyone says, the moisture in the air and temperature totally changes how things sound.

Oh. There are some over there. That was easy. You quickly move behind a large tree and watch them. Your pokemon follow suit and you form a little line of spies.

There are only a few Spinarak, and one Ariados. It looks like the Ariados is teaching the others. They’ve spun a decent amount of web, though.

You walk out and hold out your hands so you look unthreatening. “Hi there. I’m Herb.”

They keep their distance. They slowly start spreading around, forming a semi-circle.

Mace keeps alert. Bella, too. She doesn’t seem to be a fan of bugs. Gobble, while not being totally oblivious, is acting more like you and being cautiously optimistic. Dice looks like he’s asleep with his eyes open until he finally blinks. He looks up.

You look up to see what he’s looking at. It’s an Ariados, lowering a small strand. You step backwards a foot before it lands in your hair.

“Hey, I just want to talk. Maybe we can make a trade. I’m looking for some of that silk you make.”

They scatter. The ariados above hisses violently before vanishing into the treetops.

Not the friendliest response, but at least they didn’t attack. You wonder why they wouldn’t even hear you out.

You almost lose sight of all of the, except for the rear end of one off in the distance running behind a tree.

If Hana had a problem with it, we could have explained it to Laki later and she likely would have apologized. Being instantly offended on Hana's behalf assumes far, far too much, and Laki was right to chastise us for doing so.
>>
>>1205823
>>1205811
Mountains out of molehills
it was pretty obvious Hana was going to laugh it off
and her insecurities about it are do to people treating her different and delicately about it just like Herb did by confronting Laki like that
>>
>>1205835
Nah, Laki was the one who did something wrong. Did you not see where Hana's reaction was forced laughter after an awkward silence? She was pretty obviously uncomfortable with it.

Laki chastised us because deflecting responsibility is a thing she does a lot.
>>
>>1205849
>>1205835
Honestly, I would have suggested calling Laki's taste shit and saying Terminator was a much better film. Normalizes the joke a little bit, lets Hana start making more film comparisons. It still might've made Hana feel awkward, but we could have apologized in private later like we did here.

Hana didn't laugh it off right away, she just laughed to break the tension after Herb confronted Laki. Hana doesn't just care about being treated differently, she's thinks that her augmentations and burns make her ugly. If she cared about being treated differently and /didn't/ think she was ugly, we wouldn't see her constantly comparing herself negatively to Val and the other girls
>>
>>1205861
Yeah, but if Hana cared we should have let her be the one to say something (or specifically ask us to say something) instead of assuming and being offended for her.

It isn't even clear if the forced laughter was due to the joke or if it was a response to Herb's escalation of the situation.

Yeah man, you're right. It was so unreasonable to assume Hana would be uncomfortable about a joke about her cybernetics when she's been shown to be self-conscious about them before.

Look, if you guys think sticking up for your friend is fedora-tipping, that's your business. Clearly I'm not going to change your mind about it.

>>1205959
Exactly this.
>>
>>1205959
>>1205977
Whether it's fun banter or not is Hana's prerogative, not Herb's.

If she found it hurtful and mean and explained that she would prefer that Laki didn't say that, then we would be right to correct her, but we didn't even gauge her reaction before jumping down Laki's throat.
>>
>>1205959
It's Hana's place to tell Laki about it, not ours. We needed to let her be offended and not ASSUME it was offensive. We know Laki, know she didn't mean anything malicious, we had no idea how Hana would take it.
>>
>>1206005
Assuming things are offensive for others and reacting angrily is totally hip nowadays. Don't you want to be hip and cool?

“Hey! I’m going to cook a meal.”

Gobble is already pulling on your pant leg. You assure him you’ll make something for him, too.

“And if anyone wants some, all I ask is a little silk in return. You guys want lots of protein, right?” You start up a fire and get to work making a heavy stew. You think it’s good with what you have, but you add some leaves you saw them munching on before for good measure after tasting one. Yeah, that’ll work. A little weird, but you know the flavors being used right now work well with that tangy bitterness. You just need to compensate with a few things.

And just like that, they start approaching. You motion for Mace and Bella to stand down as the bravest one approaches. You stick the ladle out far and let it have some.

The others, seeing no trap being sprung so far, work up the bravery to try now, too. Everyone but Ariados eventually joins in. You have to pour the thick stew, or really more of a curry at this point, onto leaves and serve them that way. The little pokemon love it though.

Bella acts like an enforcer, reminding them to pony up the silk. She can be a little pushy about it, but you can’t argue with what she collects.

A good meal really can solve just about anything. You doubt there will ever come a time when this backfires. You gather the silk up into your bag, but there’s more than you can fit. You have to roll it into a bundle and use some of the strings of it to tie everything together. You’re not the best with knots, but that should do for just carrying it. You let your pokemon help themselves, and finish up a little special version for each of them while you’re at it with the remainder.

“What do we got here?”

You look to see a few shady looking characters. There are three men and a woman, sporting a torn sailor shirt, eye patch, scraggly beard, and even golden earrings. You’d think it was almost unreal if they didn’t spook you.

“Told you I smelled something good. Hey kid, watcha making?”

The sound of a branch being stepped on makes them all turn around. You notice they quickly hide a large chest one of them was carrying behind their backs. Their coordination without even looking is impressive. It’s slyly pushed into a thick bush just as the officer gets close.

“Nice try, Falgo. But we’ve got eyes everywhere. You and your crew won’t be getting away with anything.” It’s an officer! Spiffy uniform, too. A nice mix of official looking with a touch of Loanah flair. You can’t help but be a little jealous of it. He’s got a handsome Arcanine with him, too. It’s majestic!

“We’re not trying to get away with anything.” The one called Falgo says, putting on a smooth act. “We’re just a couple of law-abiding friends going for a walk in the woods. Tell ‘em, Chatot.

“Rawk! He won’t catch us if we cut through here.”

Falgo offers an apologetic smile.

“Alright. Let's see what’s in your pockets. You’re all technically on parole still, don’t give me anything about rights.”

“Aww, come on. You’re my brother in law. If you can’t trust family, who can you trust?” Falgo and the others submit to a search. The officer finds nothing.

“You all got lucky. But don’t think your luck will hold out.” He turns to you. “You with them, son?”

Arcanine sniffs towards your stew.

I mean, I think everyone's been pretty chill. The bottom line is that we just have very different ideas of when someone should stand up for their friend. Again, clearly I'm not going to change your minds, and implying people who disagree with you are suhjwuhs isn't going to persuade anyone.

The discussion has been kind of circular, and like you said, changing opinions over the Internet is pretty fruitless. Gobble was taking a while so I thought I'd poke at them.

I thought about doing this as well, but it's pretty bad manners to feed someone else's pet without permission. So maybe we can do this if we ask first? Also police dogs normal go through special training and aren't suppose to be given treats at all basically.

“I’m fine. Just collecting silk. Or, trading food for silk, I guess.” You motion to the pot. “Is it okay for your Arcanine to have some?”

He looks at it, then you. “The bug pokemon around here don’t trust easy. What’s in the soup?”

You go down the list of ingredients in dizzying detail, and the cooking procedure. Timing exactly when to add things in is important. You don’t just need to keep track of how long it takes something to soften, but also how the other ingredients change all the variables.

“Okay. Okay. Well, if you’re offering, Arcanine can have a ladle.”

Arcanine leaps over and licks the full ladle clean. He jumps towards the pot, but Gobble stands in his way. That’s his leftover dish to lick.

“Arcanine. Don’t be rude. Leave...”

“Herb.”

“Leave Herb and his pokemon alone. Come on. I promise we’ll get you some good treats once we find out what these soon-to-be jailpidgeys are up to. Thanks for the soup, Herb. Stay out of trouble now, ya hear?” He winks to the others and leaves.

The skinny one gives a gesture you’re unfamiliar with to his back. “What an insufferable, fascist, power-tripping-”

“Okay. Okay. He can be a bit much, but that’s my wife’s brother. And he did save our butts before, remember? The Spoink incident?”

“Oh man.” The big one slaps his knee. “With the crates, and... and your face when...” His laughter overpowers whatever words he was trying to use.

They all laugh and laugh. You almost think they forgot about you as Falgo wipes a tear from his eye. “Ah. Good times. Hey, you’re pretty alright, kid. I’m Falgo. What’s your name again. Herb?”

“Umm. Yes.” No use lying about it.

“Thanks for keeping quiet.” He fetches the chest from the bush. “How’d you like to earn a shard?”

“Falgo. You can’t be serious.”

“Come on. Herb here isn’t a snitch, and captain hardass is right. We won’t smuggle anything past him as long as he’s watching.” He turns back to you. “Here’s the deal, Herb. You deliver this here chest over to the Crusty Krabby to my man Sludge Bomb Pete before tomorrow night, and you’ll get yourself a genuine, no-kidding, actual Take island shard. Whaddya say?” He holds out the chest with a padlock on it.

As odd as it seems, the shard and his offer seem absolutely real. You’re gut says it’s fine, but your head is screaming at you how unlikely that is.

“Umm, well. I already have a delivery to make.” You point to the silk, trying to turn down the offer as diplomatically as you can.

“Yeesh, really? Not every day you get offered a shard. Well, okay then.” He stands up straight and scratches his chin, thinking.

“Umm, what’s in the box, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“A present for officer hardass.” The big one says.

That sounds ominous.

“Nice. Way to spill the beans.” The skinny one slaps him upside the head.

Falgo sighs and fetches a key from his pocket, unlocking the chest. “Might as well show you.”

It’s a bunch of medals. They look old. Badges, too.

“Family heirlooms. His family has been nothing but cops or military men or anything that requires a real unfun outlook on life and telling others what to do. See, ship he was on went down decades ago. He left them so he could rescue the passengers and pokemon. My friends and I...well, we have a talent for finding things at sea. Took some trouble, but we recovered them. There’s a surprise birthday party being setup by my wife, his sister right now. Pete’s helping.” He locks it back up. “Anyway, that’s way more than you asked. Guess I’m just excited. He hates my guts and he’s going to flip out when he gets these.”

“What are we supposed to do now?” The woman asks.

“We’ll figure something out. Come on. Good luck on your pokemon journey, Herbo.” He pats you on the back.

Herbo? You don’t even know what to say to that. His Chatot repeats it a few times.

They leave.

You give Gobble an extra bit of bread and stretch. The silk gathering was a lot easier than you thought. What next?
