Last time, you dealt with the many burdens of command, but now you're back at the Dam. There's no need to go into what a struggle it was getting Keith's Warmouth and the one-legged Betta-MP back, but you do it in time.

Irina and the technicians run through the mission log of the three Betta-MPs, in search of the truth, and you receive no resistance from the dispirited pink-haired girls. Your girlfriend, though, isn't able to help very much. After a certain point, during a flyover of a sleepy little Qu'liri village, you see a bloom of fire from the rooftop of one of the villages. There's a wash of static, then, and Lyra's feed goes dead. Lyanna and Lara's last long enough to show you a small anti-mech missile hitting Lyra's mech before they too go dead. Irina promises that, if you all survive this, she'll keep digging and figure out the cause, but her best guess is that it was a result of sudden electrical overload although the break in footage is oddly clean. Their ASP systems are entirely fried.

As for Jesus, he surprises you too. There's talk of borrowing someone else's Warmouth for him, as a member of SOUL, and jury-rigging it for sniping...but he refuses. Instead, he asks if there are any mecha currently lacking pilots. After scanning a list, he selects one that surprises you, the humble Pumpkinseed I Sniper of the late Sergeant O'Neil, killed during the Dam Raid. It can't use his beloved custom rifle, but he shrugs it off, "I'd be a poor sniper if I could only use one gun." He says, and gets some practice in with the Pumpkinseed's Iskander, patterned with the ancient Celtic designs O'Neil favored in life. The one modification he does insist on, however, is the addition of a white V-fin crest to the Pumpkinseed's head, stating something to the effect of it being his signature style, the V is an ancient gesture for both victory and peace.

two things wrong here.

1. Scattershot only has 5 bursts, so it's 3.6 CP Although it's my fault for not being specific so my apologies.

2. you're spaces are off. You're forgetting that it's multi-feed 2, so it carries two clips of ammo at the same time, so the spaces should be 23.16 before mating and 17.41 after. so 6.5 CP worth of Space Efficiency would be needed to bring it down below 5 spaces.

“Cheer up, asshole.” Garret tells you as your three mecha sit on the edge of the dam, cockpit hatches down so the three of you can sit on them and talk in the open air.

You grunt at him. You just made your report to Colonel Luxol, who confirmed that the evacuation is well enough underway that the remaining presence of the Archimedes and Petronius is no longer required. He's taken those ships into the atmosphere, and sent the order for two of your remaining vessels to join him. They'll form a wall against any last-minute Avalonian reinforcements and oversee the fight from high above. The biggest difficulty about fighting the Avalonian battleship is that its beam batteries outclass anything you've ever heard of carried by a Jovian ship, so they're hesitant to get into a gunfight with something that can shoot them down from that kind of range.

“H-he's right.” Simon says, “Ever since they made you squad leader you've been...what did you call him?”

“An attenuated, enervated, eviscerated caricature of cuntishness.” Garret quips, “Fortunately, there's a cure.”

You grunt again, staring out into the mist. Damn this weather, the sun is up, but it's so cloudy overhead and so foggy below that you have no idea where the horizon is, there's just a diffuse glow amidst the grey somewhere, and the shapes of trees poking up through the fog like looming ghosts.

“And what would that cure be?” Simon asks patiently.

Garret grins, “Have a drink, then we go kill every last Knight on this planet and go home heroes. Come on, Amos, I know they've chipped away at your lovable innocence with all of this nonsense ever since you shot down the Berenger, and I know you're under a lot of pressure...but you've got to bend with it. Get all rigid and you'll just break.” He tosses you a flask.

You know you can't afford to get drunk right now, but one sip won't hurt, so you take one, making a face at its contents, “What is this, paint thinner?”

“That's how you know it's the good stuff.” Garret replies.

You smile, and take another sip before re-corking it and tossing it back. Garret shakes the flask next to his ear suspiciously, listening to the sound it makes, “Don't have too much fun. You know who we're facing. Something tells me that this Paladin isn't going to underestimate us as much as the first one did.”

Garret tosses the flask to Simon, who also takes a sip...and handles it better than either of you...before giving you both an encouraging grin. His S-Squilla hulks above the S-Delphinius and S-Pyxicephalus. He goes to throw it back, but a sudden rumble shakes the dam and he misses, the flask gleaming as it tumbles end over end into the mist below.

“Go get it.” Garret crosses his arms, then hurriedly yells out, “Wait, I was kidding! Don't worry about it!” As Simon grabs his liftwire to go chasing after the lost flask.

You duck into your mech to check your instruments, not even needing to hear the flurry of Arabic warnings from the Scimitar pilots to know what it is. Gerin approaches. Gerin is here. What you hear is the tread of hundreds of Knights marching in perfectly disciplined lockstep, rebel infantry milling around their feet, and as the fog burns away from its thrusters you can see an immense scarlet needle hovering above the trees. The damned thing is bigger than a Wels-class, even taking into account that a Wels is a relatively short and fat-headed ship for its mass and Avalonian ships resemble long, slender lances.

Something is sitting on top of its prow. You can just barely see it in the ambiguous light, a dark shape only visible where its outline mars the smooth curves of the enemy vessel. You can't tell anything else, but something about that position speaks of arrogance and poise, like some ancient king riding out to face his enemies on the back of his mightiest war-elephant. A shudder runs down your spine. Even if there wasn't the unspoken expectation that you, as the one who brought down the Berenger, would face this one, you would have to do it. You're SOUL, Special Operations are your job, and there is nothing at all normal about fighting a Paladin.

The vidcomm request is simultaneously broadcast to every ship, every mech, in your assembled forces. Even Irina, tucked safely on board one of the ships in the atmosphere, probably gets a look. The man on the other side of the holoscreen could easily be related to Hector Van Damme. Tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair that looks somewhat spiky and disheveled, you'd guess because he just removed his helmet. Honestly, there's nothing very remarkable about him, or his white armor, despite the fact it's been shaped like a muscled chest, or his purple cloak. Until you see his eyes. You can see the whites all the way around the iris, which is never a good sign. It would be a mistake to call them the eyes of an animal. Animals are rational, they aren't consciously cruel. They act to survive with minimal effort, nearly always. This is different, you get the sense that he likes hurting people.

“Is that all?” He scoffs, rubbing a hand against his face, “Just this many? A handful? Two? A dozen handfuls?” He starts laughing, “By the Lady, it's pathetic. I'm not the same as that old witch, I don't give speeches to inferior beasts, so enjoy my words while they last, pigs! Don't bother running! Don't bother trying to surrender! If you want this to be quick and easy, come at me all at once so I can kill you in a hurry!” He smiles and spreads his arms wide, “I'm feeling magnanimous, so I'll forgive you for this insult and kill you like warriors. After all, it wouldn't matter how many you sent. Even a million maggots are still just maggots!”

You pick up the detonator left in your cockpit, and flip up the top to expose the button beneath.

“Ah, this is better. I wish I had joined the ambush on your pathetic ship. All I've had to fight lately are your regular forces. I was getting rusty.” He shrugs, with an innocent smile, “Of course, I asked and was turned down, the old lady was right when she said I would have just killed you all...but really, what made it her decision? So she's my senior, so what? All she's given Avalon is two useless girls and a lot of religious twaddle, killing her and then killing you would have been a service to the Lady. Just so you know, piggies, I'm giving you a lot of credit when I say you aren't entirely useless. Once I've reduced this world to a crisp, I'll give it to the Lady as a gift. She'll see that I'm more valuable than the others, and hey...who knows the future? Maybe I'll get to rape that silly little girl on the throne in front of her brain-dead knight, marry the Lady, and rule this galaxy myself, heh?” He lifts his eyebrows, “Just thinking aloud, piggies. Master Belegor has no interest in ruling, and that's fine. So long as I grow strong enough to challenge him, give him a clean fight, and one of us dies, he'll be happy no matter the outcome. That's what he calls the way of living things.”

In RJ? Too far from the borders, I could tecnically take a plane tomorrow to either USA or Canada, but the flights are probably already full and I would have to spend some money in hotels and etc...

I live near a florest with a big wall to the side of the house that leads to civilization, I should be fine if nobody tries to go thorugh the florest to get here, and even if they do I still have the dogs.

Its more of a matter of how much time my food will last...

There is also family to worry about.

Worst case scenario I could hide with my sensei and his veteran friends for a while, they are well armed and crazy enough to survive anything after two wars.

“Consider that offer canceled. You're the Blue Knight, aren't you? Let me tell you exactly how I-” Clearly he's about to tell you about all of the awful things he's going to do to you and everyone you love.

“Twenty.” You inform him smugly, and hit the detonator.

Dozens of carefully placed charges set into the dam explode all at once.

The valley itself is the easiest way to approach the dam on foot, which is easy on the Knights and infantry, but...it also does something else. It acts as a funnel. The explosions tear open the mighty concrete wall of the dam, sending stones spraying through the air like teeth punched from a mouth, and a wall of murky, dirty water laced with rocks and chunks of rotting vegetation roars through the valley like the fist of the planet itself. The Knights in the vanguard, big and heavy as they are, are swept off their feet and vanish into the spray while the infantry simply ceases to exist. Your forces were all prepared, and took to the air or spread out to positions along the top of the valley when you set off the blast, but you know that many of the Knights are going to survive that. Even Avalonian mecha have sealed systems good enough to function in space, even if they're clumsy.

As the water rushes towards the low-hovering battleship, you prepare to give the order to sweep down and blast anything coming out of the water. With any luck, they had units on board the ship who will be trapped inside until it pulls clear...and that's when you see an energy signature from the ship you never expected.

“He can't be...” You hear Captain Asphodel stammer over the line.

“EVADE! ALL UNITS EVADE!” You grab your buddies and JET, the three SOUL units soaring into the air. Not all of your troops are that quick.

A searing fusillade composed of lines of light thicker around than any tree rips through the wall of water, flash-evaporating it and causing billowing clouds of steam to mingle with the lingering mist. It's so foggy you can't see anything, you're floating in a grey void made worse by the fact that you're trying to blink the dazzle out of your eyes. From the dozens of contact icons that vanish from your screen, you realize not everyone was as lucky as you. Avoiding a starship's primary cannon batteries is easy for a mech, but the shockwave and all of the other obstacles around in an atmosphere environment, plus the explosion of so much plasma in one place at once, is much more lethal. The sheer amount of heat left over from the blast is making your ASP have trouble giving you a picture of what's around you, but from a glint you catch through your visual sensors you can guess that the scarlet ship is lifting itself ponderously above the flood, and likely dispensing any remaining Knights it had aboard.

“He...his own men...” Simon stammers.

“Yeah.” Garret replies bitterly, “Anyone who got caught up in our trap and survived just got boiled like an egg.”

Our primary knowledge right now is that he has a impressive shield. Ablative, active, or reactive, it's hard to tell, but I have a feeling it's ablative reactive(since even a 20 kill attack wouldn't harm a reactive shield). As is, I say our biggest foe will be the mist. Need to stay together and not get separated.
I am not sure how the army's morale is like, but destroying the ship and Lucas could shatter it. Plus side is there is a clearish path forward now. We cannot get swarmed, and we cannot get bogged down though.

“Stay together.” You warn your squad. “Our greatest enemy right now is the mist, Gerin's still a ways away.” You feel a little bad for the line units, the smoke and fog is a lot harder on mecha that don't have the advanced sensors yours do. On the other hand...the Knights don't have them either. The three of you sail down over the flooded valley in formation, matching the speed of your slowest member, the heavy S-Squilla.

“Incoming.” Garret warns, “It looks like there were Knights behind the battleship and probably being dispersed from its mechbays.”

“How many?” You inquire, as your own screen starts to light up with enemy contact icons.

“Too many.” He replies, and you nod in agreement, your screen is glowing like one of those Christian Solday trees with the signatures of approaching Knights, now, “What do you want to do?”

Once again, you think of the troops behind you, as the first Knights lumber out of the mist, awkwardly moving along hilltop paths on either side of the valley, “We're the tip of the spear. Wipe them out. Our troops are outnumbered as it is, we need to make it as easy for them as possibly by evening the score.”

True, but it puts things into perspective when the three are reenacting the Psyche raid. In retrospec the lower points for SOUL happened when they faced off against Roarke, a ace with a proper ace machine. But considering our trio are either using smarter builds compared to the Slinger, or just plain lighter builds, it shows how they've grown.

Generally what I do when Garret rolls a crit is that I roll the crit itself ONCE, and the remaining three shots hit a random location thrice. However, Garret isn't even rolling on the crit table this fight, just at locations, because he's maximizing shooting bits off them rather than doing things like clip off their shields or destroy their thrusters that aren't as useful versus mooks.

Thats assuming we keep the course. Dice are dicks and as seen, our dodge rolls are not that high. 50ish were taken out beforehand and their entire front was wiped. We also got allies and CIWS so it might be even quicker. Either way, in a battle this big, momentum is key. Each dead A-class means one less threat for our allies.

Don't think there is a need. The ones facing Jesus, Simons notagirlfriend and a more competent Iok would never be close enough for their attacks to hit. The ones dealing with the three black stars are just going to be ambushed again and again. Our front is probably the one with the most risk because we don't make those roles so much worse trying to hit far away or hidden foes.

There are a dozen of them. In contrast to the rather plain grey armor of the bulk of the Gerin's understudies, these Knights are painted blinding white, with a snarling wolf's-head emblem on each left pauldron. They march with smooth discipline, forming up in a double-layered phalanx with their lances angled like a hedgehog's spikes towards you. From their movements, you can tell that they've worked together often, and from the hatchmarks burned into their armor beneath the wolfheads, you can tell that they've killed a fair number of Jovians before. They outnumber you four to one, and although you hear the sounds of battle on all sides and see the flash of plasma in the mist and steam and smoke from what your temperature scanners tell you are burning trees, you are for the moment alone.

It takes less than twenty seconds to kill them all.

You and Simon drop into their formation with the recklessness of two warhorses gone mad enough to brave the enemy's line of pikes. Your lance skewers one through the chest, then sweeps out and around in an arc that cuts through two more. They topple to the ground in pieces. One ducks away from Simon, turning to aim his lance at your powerplant, but you catch his weapon by the tip and cut his Knight in half from shoulder to groin. Those four were lucky. Even though Simon's mech doesn't have the same berserk energy it did when you first faced it, it's fast and relentless, and the glowing fields around its hands scoop through mech armor like warm mud, creating an odd mixture of effortlessness and brutality as he renders three of them into scrap in the blink of an eye. Garret's artillery mech isn't necessarily the best for this kind of work, but despite that he focus-fires on two of them, bolts of plasma searing the air. One's cockpit is cored immediately, and it sags as his remaining shots put big holes through the rest of its torso. The other is luckier, marginally, it loses its head and one arm, and as it twists away Garret shoots it through the back of the knee, cutting its limb in half.

The three survivors back off, as the downed one fumbles around for a lance with its remaining arm and lifts it to shoot. You casually block cannonfire with your shield as you advance, slashing two down with one blow as Garret pre-empts Simon going for another by turning its entire torso into shredded metallic confetti before finishing off the downed one in a hail of fire.

They're coming to us.” A massive thunderclap splits the air, and the shockwave buffets you even from here, “Confirmed battery fire from the overwatch ships. Don't expect a full artillery barrage, our boys up above don't want to hit us, but they'll keep that beam cannon off our backs. Good luck and...” You hear muffled swearing over the comms line, “Really? NOW? By Jove how...” The line muffles and you hear more swearing, then his voice returns, once more calm but with an edge on it you last heard when he was chewing you out under the impression that you'd seduced Irina for a better gun, “Our sensors confirm the Mekong-class Iulia Maesa has emerged from warp and is entering Qu'lir's orbit. Once again.” He puts so much into those last two words, you feel for him, you really do.

“Credit-stealing bitch.” Garret comments quietly. The S-Squilla and your mech vigorously jerk their heads up and down in ageement.

“Every fucking time.” He adds.

“W-what if she reviews the commlog and hears you?” Simon asks, wiping bits of Knight off the S-Squilla's fingers.

“I hope she does. I'm tired of her bullshit. If she didn't keep pulling her clout with the senate to interfere, General Oman could have stayed around and we could have just firebombed Gerin from space.” Garret growls.

“That's going too far.” You remark, “There are civilian populations along his route that would have been affected.”

“I know, it's wishful thinking, but there have to have been at least a few points where we could have hit them. I'm tired of her treating SOUL like her personal cheerleader squad and the UJCIDF like her Jove-damned armchair. I hope Roarke Starwind bones Lieutenant Farragut every day, and I hope she knows about it.”

“I hope they have the happiest marriage in the galaxy. I hope she's great for him and he's great for her.” Simon always does find the nicest way to put it.

“I hope they have kids together.” You remark.

“Yeah? I hope Cabot confesses to him and he turns her down and then Fairchild has to deal with being the rebound forever.” You sip water from your canteen.

“That's cold, Amos. That's void-cold.” Garret whispers.

“Huh, weird electrical discharge.” You frown down at your scanner, “Is there a storm coming? It looked like a lightning strike.”

“No, not from what I can see. Meteorological readings mention light rain and low cloud cover and, of course, fog...but no thunderstorms.”

The smoking, charred head of a Morgan II comes flying out of the fog.

“Literally.” You agree. The three of you head off in the direction of the light, and up ahead, you see a strange-looking mech hovering a few meters above the ground. Electricity crackles around it in a sphere, and jolts between its feet and the stones as it lifts one arm to point at you. It looks...old. Not the parts themselves, but the design. Odd proportions. Its shoulders are large, and its forearms, displaying some sort of whirring turbine in each. Its head is tall, cylindrical, reminiscent of a stovepipe. It's the color of cloudy steel, save for its piercing, blue eyes. Somehow, it isn't quite what you expected.

“Uh, that's it, right?” You question, wishing you'd had a better look at the Gerin.

“Does it matter?” Garret asks, “It's hostile, we take it out.”

I think that this is a Armored heavy frame with Super Heavy arms, and judging by their size I would bet in Medium Heavy legs and head, but Wong rarely does it and it wouldn't make much sense for a Paladin(as they don't care about things like CP and weight limits)...
The Armor is probably Super Heavy too.... If it has armor, because he can be a super narcisist that trusts absolutely on his shield.
I also bet on it having MA12, and a Beam gun fluffed as a Lightning cannon.

Getting a good look at it, the thing may very well be a hand to hand fighter. Physical fists amped up by a surge shield to increase it's power. Would be a painful melee combo, even if the shield is just 8-9 SP. Garret with a missile and us with our own could temporarily shut it down, but we don't know it's cool down.

Don't forget the +2 grip, but I doubt that it is just 8SP... Wasn't something there about it being ablative? And the cool down is probably the minimum possible... If I remember the house rules well, it means that it continues down for the rest of the turn plus the next one.

Belegor is probably even more powerfull though, so this one probably isn't full focused on hand to hand... Its sounding too simple for a Paladin though, I think that he has something up his sleeve that he will surprise us with, we should be careful.

Well there really aren't that many weapons that are more than 8 kills. Even the Kaiser's fists are only 8. As for the ablative, it was an assumption, but if it's a shock shield, making it ablative is a bad idea.
Think the lightning is 10 kills instead of 8 too, if it can send a morgan two head flying.

I suspect Wong might have changed the shield though. I made it with the Knuckle Kaiser in mind and I dont think a matter only shield would do much here. You can get one that blocks everything at 8SP to still fit the energy pool though pretty sure.

I think that a Superlight would look more like some sort of super power armor if you go by the 1.5 rule.
But you can always houserule it.

Talking about this, if you guys could choose the height of your mecha loosely based on the 1.5 rule, what would you choose? Please take in consideration that the proportions suggested by armor too, as a "normal looking" humanoid mech in this universe usually have an armor one level higher than their servos, what would make mechs with lesser armor look more slender than normal.

I imagine the Walkure with 16m and a slim outlook as it was somewhat based on the Villkiss, but it would probably also look a little more fragile than others heavy strikers because of it.

You're expecting speech, but at that moment an unfortunate Tulwar does a flyby. Its cannon speaks loudly, but the elecrosphere halts the munitions in midair and drops them harmlessly to the ground, then a bolt of lightning from the static cloud around the storm mech's forearm tears it apart in a fireball.

The storm mech shrugs guiltlessly at you. It doesn't seem too bothered by the interruption. Is it challenging you to single combat, or trying to engage all three of you at once. What an odd thing.

Garret opens fire, and so do you, as Simon charges at it. You follow him after you squeeze off your shots. From behind, the storm mech's odds of dodging are remarkably attenuated...and indeed, it gets hit several times, but the plasma diffuses into the electrosphere. It doesn't even pause to gloat.

“Hey, come back here!” Garret ignites thrusters and follows, catching up with Simon in short order, and your Delphinius overtaking them both easily. You think the storm mech might be making more motions than it has to, it seems to be magnetically levitating or something in lieu of more normal thruster setups, zipping over the ground at a fantastic pace. Meter by meter, Garret and Simon's slower mecha fall behind. Whatever this thing is, it's around the same speed as the Delphinius, fast enough to stay ahead of it pelting through the fog despite every sign that it's panicking and doing its best to get away.

“Allo allo! This is Beauregard Squad and Marcel Squad, we'll help you out, sir!” With a cheer, a group of Pumpkinseeds join in, flying alongside you and shooting their rifles into the air.

The storm mech's head swivels around, and you swear the blue glow of its sensor core widens as it spots the ongoing chase. Internally mounted projectile weapon ammo now takes up space AND has weight, while handheld weapons don't have to worry about either, and the only tradeoff they get is not having to spend an action to use a different ammo. Whoop de do, too bad you have about 1/3rd of the ammo and spent the same amount of CP fitting it in the mech and doing weight efficiency.

They don't even have the advantage of having armor protection while handheld weapons don't on a crit. The Corebook specifically says on the Special Hit table the hit weapon gets armor protection.

I mean, seriously, you'd be at a -4 to hit a weapon when you call it. How did they not know internally mounted weapons are complete garbage.

You know what? It's time for Wong rules.

Ammo adds Spaces to a gun as the ATM demands. This makes sense, the more ammo space your gun has (internal or external) the less you have to reload it, the tradeoff is the size of the gun.. Swapping out a mag takes an Action regardless of whether it's internal or external.

Ammo has neither kills nor weight. If it takes damage it's destroyed. This is an absolute. No kills. No weight. Ever.

Can anyone name a reason why it should not be so?

They deserve it for sacrificing infinite ammo for mechanical gain. The idea that you'd be steadily losing weight in a fight annoys me anyway. DENIED! The trade-off between beam guns and projectiles in general is that projectiles have to buy ammo, but can buy more versatile, special ammo. Clip-fed beam guns don't compare directly to projectile guns, because being clip-fed at all is a weakness for a beam gun purchased for a discount on points.

A group of Scimitars descend through the fog. THEY have no trouble catching up and peppering the storm mech with their guns, but it puts its arms over its head and hunkers down as it runs, and their shots bounce off its shield. They might be fast, but they can't grapple it and would just get trampled if they got in the way. Some get too close, and without seeming to mean to, the storm mech shoots them down, little blades of lightning crackling inside the electrosphere and chopping the wing off one and the head off another Scimitar. You see the pilots eject safely.

Seemingly a bit worried about more Scimitars, the storm make burns a bit of its lead to pause and swivel its head back and forth, looking around. Choosing a path, it darts away into the dense forest on the other side of the hill, extending its upper body nearly horizontal and thrusting its arms out behind itself as though thinking that will make it go faster. The remaining Scims pull away, and the Pumpkinseeds are starting to fall behind. Garret and Simon are barely staying in the race, they're hundreds of meters behind you now, and you're no longer bothering to try hosing it down with beam cannon fire. The woods are dense, massive redwoods towering over four hundred feet in height. In some parts of Qu'lir, your mech loom above the trees like towers. Here, it's like being a kid playing in the woods again.

“Oh come on, that's NOT any faster! What the hell are they thinking!?” Garret demands to know as the storm mech's horizontal posture carries it directly beneath a tree that's fallen over at an angle. There's no longer any path, you're just zigzagging through and around the massive trees, and the Pumpkinseeds have long since fallen behind, although you hear them calling encouragement on your comms.

Yeah, on the version before I realized main sensors weigh 1 ton I had an extra 0.5 CP so it's actually black, red, and has gold highlights. Essentially the Sinanju's paintjob with black and red switched as the main and secondary colors. I suppose the version I'm using now would be the same without the cool bonus.

I like the little heart on this one though.

You honestly feel a little bad. All of the mecha you've actually seen this thing shoot down were indirectly hit and had a chance to eject, it challenged you to single combat, and when you refuse an entire group chased it down. No wonder the pilot is frightened, and this definitely isn't normal military behavior.

You don't approach, though, that's a good way to get caught in a trap. Instead, you open comms, “I can still see you, you know. Eject your cockpit and surrender, it doesn't have to go this way.”

“O-o-oh gods it's y-you.” You know that voice from somewhere, “Girls? Girls!? H-Help, i-it's him! It's that evil witch's bodyguard, the one who threw my aunt and I out of our own hotel!” She sounds terrified, the storm mech backscooting away from you on its butt, crabwalking on its hands and feet.

A mental image appears in your mind, of a dark-haired Qu'liri girl with fine, pale skin and large, expressive eyes the color of pine needles. You remember her sneaking off to a rebel meeting, but you haven't seen her since, “How did you...?” More importantly, though, you activate your beam lance. You just heard thunder rumble overhead.

“I...I told you I was educated on Europa! Nobody even thinks twice about that, j-just because I'm a Qu'liri!” The storm mech's fists clench, lightning gathering around them, “I was at the Academy! I was on the shortlist for SOUL pilots, but...but...” The storm mech's shoulders shake, “I-I was told privately, by the person who gave Count Ford these mecha, that he'd looked into my case. I wasn't kicked out because the school's headmaster REALLY believed I was in...in an adult video, that was just the excuse, it was all so there was a spot open for the Chairman's son to join SOUL! As two more of the storm mechs land, the first one backhands the one speaking, “Hush! What if Count Ford can hear us!? He might just decide to set all the bombs off on a whim.”

First hit goes to the head to take out the primary sensors. This gives a -2 to all combat actions. Then take the hit to make a called shot at the backup sensors. This drops them to -4 and makes a called shot to shut off the power core feasible, since their offense is reduced to basically nothing.

You missiles are OK too, but could be could be more effective if you care about this.... I mean, most mechs here have at least medium striker armor, and 6K missiles would just cause 2K of damage per hit.
3x10K missiles with WA+2 and 1Space would cost the same thing, and thats not mentiioning the new possibilities opened by your new 0.5 less weight.

You've seen the S-Betta's schematics, and unlike most SOUL mecha it's gone the extra step and has a Target Analyzer installed, something you desperately want despite space being at such a premium in your hyper-efficient, hyper-modern, hyper-lethal mech. You ask Blanchett to please not start tranquilizing the Teslas, and to instead send you their schematics, communicating with her via text about the location and trigger systems of the bombs. This is going to be EXTREMELY tricky...but as you overlay the schematics onto the mecha on your screen, you do see a way.

“Nobody is getting killed here today.” You say firmly. “None of you. This isn't your fault, but I should warn you, the Green Man on Qu'lir has rotted for decades. Your own sister said he's nothing like the lady, when she wasn't getting hysterical over what she saw it do."

“Elizabeth, hysterical? Liar, you really expect us to believe that!?” Wayland's Tesla draws a beam saber and points it at you.

“How dare you insult the Green Men!?” Sabrina's arm-mounted generators whir into full power, “The Lady MAY have eternally shamed the Rothschild family by putting the bastard Eustace at its head, but even a distaff poor cousin like me will be DAMNED to hear you speak ill of-”

“Shut up. Both of you, shut up.” It's little Tanya, surprisingly, and her voice is like steel as she levers herself to her feet, “I don't know what that thing Palmyra dug up was, I don't want to know, but we saw what it did. If that's really what the Lady is like, I'd rather be bullied by the Jovians.”

“We lost friends.” Lacelle points out mournfully.

You send two more messages.

“Yeah. I didn't want to say anything, but Lacy and I kinda thought we could self-destruct on it when Ford dug it up.” Pamela admits, then hisses as she realizes what she just said. For several moments, nobody moves, but the bomb doesn't go off. Ford must not be listening. You hear all five sigh with relief.

“That's fine. I'm going to do some surgery on those bombs.” You tell them.

“What!? No!” Tanya shrieks, “We'll die!”

“You'll die if you stay in there.” You tell her, “This is the only way.”

Emily growls, “This is preposterous, you are NOT going to beat us and our lives, alas, are probably doomed.”

“Not today.” Garret says, as a missile streaks through the air.
